• Atherosclerosis: disease primarily of elastic
arteries and large/medium sized muscular
arteries. The basic lesion is atheroma,
consisting of a raised focal plaque within the
intima, having a core of lipid (mainly chol. &
chol esters) and a covering fibrous cap
