the political history of Occidental Mindoro necessa-

Mindoro Island was originally known to the ancients

Asia trade route during the pre-Philippines period
Chinese, Arabs, and Indians traded with the natives
In 1570, the Spanish began to explore the island and
named it Mina de Oro (Mine of Gold) after finding
some precious metal and later compressed it to

94. MY INSIGHTS
I have learned that Mindoro Island is reached in
natural resources especially in marine resources and
agriculture. I have learned that the Mangyan tribe have
their different practices, they also differ in their way of
dressing and also the dialect they have spoken are
different in each tribe. I have also learned that most of
the Mangyan are uneducated. Mangyan parents
believed that experience is the best teacher for their
child to learn. These indigenous people were good in
pottery making and weaving and most of them practice
sweddin farming.
95. I have realized that no matter what are our beliefs and
practices we should respect one another. I have
realized the importance of this subject and it helps me
better understand the culture of others.
I intend to visit the beautiful sceneries of
Oriental and Occidental Mindoro most especially the
Apo Reef and Puerto Galera. I want also to meet the
Mangyan tribes and I want to experience and observe
their way of living.
