Meet Julia
Who is Julia?
Julia is a outgoing five year old headed to Kindergarten come
the fall. She is talkative and friendly, with no shortage of friends
in and out of school. She shows natural leadership qualities and
loves to perform. Julia is a talented artist and looks forward to
any and every project that comes her way. She has strong motor
skills, both gross and fine, meeting and exceeding every standard
for her age group. Additionally her writing and math abilities are
competent, while her language/speech is an area that has room
to improve. While far from shy or awkward, confidence in class
work can waver, although often not for lack of skill. Overall, Julia
is a fun loving, smart and athletic girl who you will struggle to
find without a smile on her face.
Butterfly Project – June 25, 2015
Butterfly Project Details
• Students chose 3 different color markers in which to color a coffee
filter with, a teacher then sprayed colored coffee filter with water
to allow colors to run. After drying students scrunched up coffee
filter and twisted pipe cleaner around the middle to separate wings
and create antennas.
• This activity was in correlation with our nature theme and more
directly having read aloud Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
As a class we discussed the different stages of a caterpillar, as well
as some key body parts (i.e. wings, body, antenna) and aimed for
this project to help reinforce these ideas.
• Julia achieved the goal as she was able to clearly list the different
stages and identify where the wings and antennas were.
Counting Bears 1 to 10 – June 26, 2015
Counting Bears 1 to 10 Details
• Julia was asked to take 10 bears out of a pile
and subsequently count off 1 through 10.
Although hesitant at first, Julia was able to do
this with ease and then decided to up the ante
to 20 total bears as seen in the previous
picture.
• Counting 1 through 10 is a huge benchmark
and Julia exceed the desired outcome.
Counting Bears Color Identification –
June 26, 2015
Counting Bears Color Identification
Details
• Julia was asked to separate the bears by color,
then identify each color by name. The bears,
while initially mixed, came in blue, green,
yellow and red.
• Color identification in both name and visual is
an important skill and Julia passed with flying
colors if you will. She easily separated and
identified each of the four.
Counting Bears Size Identification –
July 2, 2015
Counting Bears Size Identification
Details
• Julia was asked to find bears of various sizes
and use terms to describe them. She found 3
different bears and apply arranged them from
largest to smallest, while describing that one
bear was the “biggest”, another the
“smallest”, and one “in the middle”.
• Comparison words and organization are an
aspect of many kindergarten skills checklist
and Julia clearly meet the standard.
Julia on the Playground – July 6, 2015
Julia on the Playground Details
• This video clearly demonstrates Julia’s gross
motor skills and highlights her loving of
climbing and going down the slide.
Julia Cutting Out Shapes – July 8, 2015
Julia Cutting Details
• This video highlights Julia’s fine motor skills,
attention to detail, and ability to focus on the
task at hand. While many young children will
struggle to both cut neatly and stay engaged,
Julia does so with ease.
Sand Table and Sea Animals – July 16,
2015
Sand Table and Sea Animals Details
• The sand table is one of Julia’s favorite centers
and offers an awesome sensory
• Julia also was able to organize the sea animals
that reside within the sand table and label
many by name, including the whales, crabs,
and fish.
Tractor Project with Shapes – July 21,
2015
Tractor Project with Shapes Details
• This project combined cutting (fine motor
skills) with shape identification (both
rectangles and circles), and directly correlated
with our weekly theme of “Down on the
Farm”.
• Julia did an excellent job of cutting and
followed directions perfectly when assembling
her tractor.
Julia Self Selected Piece #1
Julia Self Selected Piece #1 Details
• Julia explained that “this is my favorite picture I
have colored all year. I think that it looks so very
beautiful and want to bring it home so I can hang
it on my wall in my bed room”.
• This piece, a blank black and white of Van Gogh’s
“The Starry Night” was an activity during our The
Arts week and offered the kids an opportunity to
put their own unique spin on one of the more
famous and well known paintings out there.
Julia Self-Selected Piece #2
Julia Self-Selected Piece #2 Details
• “This is the magical, princess wand I made. It
is one of my favorite projects because I can
hold it and feel like I am a princess too. I love
how bright and yellow the star on top is.”
• This project was made after reading multiple
fairy tales in class and was a fan favorite
amongst many of the girls.
For the Future
• Julia is clearly physically
and socially adept for
her age. She has more
than enough ability in
nearly every facet of life
and meets critical
benchmarks. The only
big things to work on
moving forward would
be both speech and
writing.
