Among the innovations in the Lighting sector, there's a trend to use lighter and thinner materials such as thin metal sheets, becoming a challenge for the assembly process and for the overall quality of the end LED lighting products. FASTITE®2000™ screws prevents stripping off problems and reduces the cycle time to increase the productivity of the assembly lines. At CELO we know how important it's to provide the right screw technology to and we've created a Case Study as an example of our fastening expertise.

OVERVIEW
One of our customers in lighting market contacted us for support on LED
drivers assembly to different lamp sets. He was having screw stripping
problems when tightening into thin sheet metal.
He was using non-licensed self-threading screws Ø4x8 mm, without under
head serrations, simple lead thread with standard F point.
The assembly process was semi-automatic: automatic feeding and driving
with manual positioning. He welcome any action to increase productivity in
the assembly lines, such us reducing cycle time and improving screw
alignment.
Final Product:
Modular LED lighting
Application:
LED driver fixation to thin metal
sheet
Assembly materials:
Lamp sets vary in materials and
thickness
Anodized aluminium sheet
White-lacquered steel sheet
Thickness of 0,5 - 0,8 - 1,0 mm
Installation process:
Automatic feeding and driving
Manual positioning
Main problem:
Stripping off
Application requirements:
Enough clamping force to prevent
loosening.

POOR JOINT RELIABILITY:
Traces of steel remains between screw threads
after stripping.

Non-stripped parts showed low loosening
resistance. After transport, many LED drivers
weren’t properly clamped.
Plates were very sensitive to screw batch
conditions.
Scrap level was quite high. The estimated cost was
around 3.000 €/year.

RESULTS
Additionally, FASTITE® 2000™ screw improves
productivity of the assembly line:
• Reduction of cycle time: Twin lead thread
provides double advance within 360º. Extruding CA
point ensures fast alignment and hole finding.
CONCLUSIONS
FASTITE® 2000™ screw solves assembly problems in thin
sheet metal and meets application requirements:
• Avoid stripping problems due to its twin lead
thread and serration configuration
• Improves resistance to vibrational loosening due
to TRILOBULAR® section
• Ensures a secure and stable assembly process due
to excellent dimensional stability between batches
