- 2. Advice 5 Enjoin the good and forbid the evil Surah Luqman
- 3. Surah Luqman Verse 17 َ ة َ َل َّالص ِمِق َ أ َّ ََنُب اَيِر َ ك ْ نُم ْ ال ِن َ ع َه ْ انَو ِوفُر ْ عَم ْ الِب ْرُم ْ أَو َ كَاب َص َ أ اَم ٰ َ َ لَع ْ ِِب ْ اصَو َّ نِإ ۖ ِورُم ُ ْ اْل ِمْز َ ع ِْنم َ ِكلَٰ ذ O my son! keep up prayer and enjoin the good and forbid the evil, and bear patiently that which befalls you; surely these acts require courage;
- 4. Surah Luqman Verse 17 • Encourage others to do good deeds and prevent them from evil. • This act is what Allah tells us is the reason why we as Muslims are the best nation – as we are the only ones who have this process in our lives and teachings.

Surah Luqman Verse 17 ْمُت ْ ن ُ كَ ْ ي َ خةَّم ُ أْتَجِر ْ خ ُ أِاسَِّلنل َ ونُرُم ْ أ َ تِوفُر ْ عَم ْ الِب َ نْوَه ْ ن َ تَوْن َ عِر َ نكُم ْ ال َ ونُِنم ْ ؤ ُ تَوِ َّ اّللِب “You are the best nation [ever] brought forth for mankind: you bid what is right and forbid what is wrong, and have faith in God.” (3:110)

- 7. Enjoininggoodandforbiddingevil becomeRECOMMENDED Good deed in question is RECOMMENDED (mustahab); Evil deed in question is DISAPPROVED (makrooh); Surah Luqman
- 8. When a person enjoins good and forbids evil, the status and personality of the wrongdoer must be taken into account so that he is not disrespected. In addition, one must not be so severe and harsh that the wrongdoer becomes averse to the religion and religious activities. Surah Luqman
- 9. 1 •You must know the halal & haram (good and evil) Surah Luqman
- 10. 2 •Probability must exist that your words will have an effect on the person. Even if no hope of change, one must still express displeasure in some form. Surah Luqman
- 11. 3 •Wrongdoer must intend to continue to do the improper and wrong actions. Surah Luqman
- 12. 4 •Wrongdoer must not be legally excused in his improper actions – for example, must not believe that the improper act he did was not permissible. Surah Luqman
- 13. 5 • There must not be any significant harm to be inflicted on yourself, reputation or wealth or excessive difficulty – EXCEPT if the issue is SO IMPORTANT that one must endure harm and hardship for the cause. Surah Luqman
- 14. Displaying heartfelt aversion – turning away one’s face, not speaking to person, etc… Verbally advising or guiding. Physically enforcing – by hitting or imprisoning the wrongdoer. Surah Luqman HOW?

Surah Luqman Verse 17 َ ة َ َل َّالص ِمِق َ أ َّ ََنُب اَيِر َ ك ْ نُم ْ ال ِن َ ع َه ْ انَو ِوفُر ْ عَم ْ الِب ْرُم ْ أَو َ كَاب َص َ أ اَم ٰ َ َ لَع ْ ِِب ْ اصَو َّ نِإ ۖۖ ِورُم ُ ْ اْل ِمْز َ ع ِْنم َ ِكلَٰ ذ O my son! keep up prayer and enjoin the good and forbid the evil, and bear patiently that which befalls you; surely these acts require courage;

Section 6 َوْم ُ كْي َ ل َ عِ ْ ِب َّالصِب َّ نِإ َ فَ ْ ِب َّالصَِنمِانَمْيِاإلِس ْ أَلر َ َكَِنمَْ الِد َسَو َ لَ ْ ي َ خِفد َسَج َ لَس ْ أَرُهَعَمَو َ لِفِانَمْيِإ َ لَ ْ ِب َصُهَعَم “I advise you to show patience and fortitude as indeed patience is to faith what the head is to the body; and there is no goodness in a body without a head just as there is no goodness to faith without patience.” Surah Luqman
- 17. Surah Luqman Lessons to Learn from Verse 17 1. Train your children to be believers and religions people by encouraging them to perform the prayer, and through encouraging the good and forbidding the evil, train them to act responsibly in society. ( یاّنىُبأقم الةالصوامربالمعروف ) 2. Raise the level of Islamic awareness of your children to such a degree that they themselves can determine and define what is good and bad and are able to recognize it on their own without your supervision. ( یاّنىُب-ّو رُما-ّوّهْنا )
- 18. Surah Luqman Lessons to Learn from Verse 17 3. Ensure that your children being individuals who command to the good and forbid from the bad. ( وامربالمعروف ) 4. The act of enjoining to the good must always come before forbidding from the evil – when goodness prevails, then by its own, evil will be reduced. ( وامربالمعروفوانهعنالمنكر ) 5. It is not enough for a person to be on the path of goodness, rather, they must invite others to this path. ( وامربالمعروفوانهعنالمنكر )
- 19. Surah Luqman Lessons to Learn from Verse 17 6. In propagating the religion and fulfilling the obligation of enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, we must have patience and forbearance as dissuading others from bad may mean that we face the bitter pains and insults of the bad doers. ( واصبرعلىماأصابك ) 7. A wise father would accept that his child may need to deal with difficulties in his life and thus would remind him to have patience and fortitude, however such a wise and loving father would never let any damage be done to the religion by remaining silent in the face of corruption. ( وانهعنالمنكرواصبرعلىماأصابك )
- 20. Surah Luqman Lessons to Learn from Verse 17 8. Enjoining to the good and dissuading from the evil is one of the most important issues and there is a spiritual value in having patience in the face of what will happen to an individual on this path. ( ّانذلكمنعزماالمور )
