mankind: you bid what is right and forbid what
is wrong, and have faith in God.” (3:110)
8. When a person enjoins good and forbids evil, the status
and personality of the wrongdoer must be taken into
account so that he is not disrespected.
In addition, one must not be so severe and harsh that
the wrongdoer becomes averse to the religion and
religious activities.
Surah Luqman
10. 2
•Probability must exist that
your words will have an
effect on the person. Even
if no hope of change, one
must still express
displeasure in some form.
Surah Luqman
12. 4
•Wrongdoer must not be
legally excused in his
improper actions – for
example, must not believe
that the improper act he
did was not permissible.
Surah Luqman
13. 5
• There must not be any
significant harm to be inflicted
on yourself, reputation or wealth
or excessive difficulty – EXCEPT
if the issue is SO IMPORTANT
that one must endure harm and
hardship for the cause.
Surah Luqman
14. Displaying heartfelt
aversion – turning
away one’s face,
not speaking to
person, etc…
Verbally advising or
guiding.
Physically enforcing
– by hitting or
imprisoning the
wrongdoer.
