4. Four Characteristics of Rasolallah(SAW) (four times in Quran)
1. Tilawat of the Ayahs of The Book to the People.
2. Purifies their lives.
3. Teaches them The Book.
4. Teaches them Wisdom.
Meaning of Tilawah – Follow(read, ponder and act upon)
Education, training, remembrance, purification, warning will all be through the Holy
Quran (Miracle of the Prophet = Qur'an)
What is Tazkiyah? --- treatment of heart diseases especially love of the world
Education Book and Wisdom --- Education is to explain it to people of various
abilities with great compassion and attention. Wisdom is the power and ability by
which man decides matters according to the truth.

5. Moral decay of scholars of Jews --- Example of non practicing scholar with
a donkey carrying the Books ---- Evaluate ourselves what we did with
Quran --- Complaints of Quran(next slide)
Credulity of Jews that we are the chosen ones ---- They will not wish for their
death, but they know their misdemeanors --- What is our credulity?
‘Ubaydah Al Mulayki narrated that Rasulallah (SAW) said: “O
people of the Qur’an, do not take the Qur’an as a pillow [i.e., do
not cast it aside abandoning it]; recite it properly, giving it its
proper due throughout the day and the night. Spread its message,
and ponder upon it, so that you may become successful”(Tibrani)
6. Complaint of the Qur’an
As an ornament do, they adorn me,
Yes, they keep me and sometimes kiss me.
In their celebrations they recite me,
In disputes they swear by me,
On shelves do they securely keep me,
Till another celebration or dispute, when they need me
An amulet around the neck am I
Never descending into the heart, sigh!
Unfeeling hearts, eyes forever dry
Yet in gatherings, much read am I
Senselessly do they parrot me
Yet “great” do they deem me
Yes, they read me and memorize me,
Yet only an ornament am I.
No lesson do they take from me
No custom do they abandon for me
These slogans of devotion, these vows of dedication
Lies! Lies! For shallow are their utterances
Societies stagnant, system bereft
Still much “reverence” do they throw at me
My message lies neglected, my treasure untouched,
The field lies bare, where blossomed once true glory
Wrong is the treatment that I receive
So much to give have I, but none is there to perceive.
7. Importance of Jumu’ah prayer ---The Friday congregational Prayer
--- Obligation and merits.
When the call for Prayer is made on Friday, hasten to the
remembrance of Allah and give up all trading.
Business after Jumu’ah is permissible and full of blessings.
Ruku No 2 (Ayah 9-11)
Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday and applies perfume,
if he has any, wears his best clothes, then goes to
the Masjid and performs voluntary prayer, if he wishes,
does not bother anyone, listens when the Imam appears
until he starts the prayer. Then all of this will be an
expiation for whatever occurs between that Friday and the
next Friday. (Ahmed, Tirmidhi)
Narrated Al-Ja'd ad-Damri: The
Prophet ﷺsaid: He who leaves the
Friday prayer (continuously) for three
Friday on account of slackness, Allah
will print a stamp on his heart. (Abu
Dawood)
8. Do not forget Allah even when you are otherwise occupied but remember
Him under all circumstances and remain conscious of Him at all times.
Background of these Ayahs --- During the Khutbah people get absorbed in
trade and amusements.
Allah is the Best Provider of sustenance --- Tawakul Ilallah (Strive for
Establishment of deen)
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If you say to your companion
when the imam is preaching on Friday, ‘Be quiet and listen,’ you have
engaged in idle talk.” Narrated by al-Bukhari, 892; Muslim, 851).
9. Action Items Ruku 1-2
Divine Selection for the Work of Islamic Da'wah --- Working to
spread Islamic Da'wah through recitation of verses,
purification, teaching of the Book and teaching of Wisdom
The call of Friday prayers ---- Do zikr frequently
