14. Plants and Animals Here at D.F.J. we take special care of our environment and would like to show off our prized grounds and habitats. D.F.K has a great variety of plant species. .Lichen, moss, ferns, wildflowers and other small plants can be found on the forest floor. Shrubs fill in the middle level Hardwood trees like maple, oak, birch, magnolia, sweet gum and beech make up the third level. There is great diversity of life at D.F. K. as well. Insects, spiders, slugs, frogs, turtles and salamanders are common. Birds like broad-winged hawks, cardinals, snowy owls, and pileated woodpeckers are also found in this biome. Mammals include white-tailed deer, raccoons, opossums, porcupines and red foxes.
