Ida Public Schools is a rural southeastern M ichigan
district that serves approximately 1,700 students . We
have always prided ourselves on our outstanding
curriculum that has produced above average M EAP
scores except for a few sub groups that we wanted to
improve. The classroom performance systems and
data bank purchased with this grant has further
enhanced our ability to meet these goals .
What did we do?

• CPS is an interactive Classroom
  Performance System where each student
as an electronic response pad, commonly
known as a “clicker”. Students can use
their wireless remote pads to respond to
                                                    QuickTimeª and a

projected through an LCD projector onto a
large screen at the front of the room. All
students get a chance to respond before
  the teacher gives immediate feedback.
The CPS keeps track of individual student
and item data. Low areas can be retested
  with similar questions.

are needed to see this picture.

• The Exam View item data bank that was purchased included
over 1,500 math questions that are aligned to the GLCEs.
• Pre and post tests were developed in grades 5 - 8 for:
• Numbers and operations
• Data and probability
• Geometry
• Measurement 5-6
• Algebra 6-8

    • Gains were made with two groups and a loss with one.
However, their scores are still above the state average.

What did we learn ?
      QuickTimeª and a
   TIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor
are needed to see this picture.

• When developing the tests make the font as large as
possible so students can see it well when projected
• Students need more time than you think to answer questions
so the original banks were reduced from 25 to 20.
• Keep spare AA batteries on hand for the remotes. (This was
  not a huge problem.)
• You need to teach the students how to aim the remotes
correctly and handle them carefully so they are not
  dropped.
• You also need to teach the students that this is not a game
show, we are serious about assessment, so answers can not
be shouted out or shared by trying to show what you
  clicked.
