2. CHOOSING A PLAN
As a customer you should determine what
are your needs for electricity service. Here
are some questions to ask yourself:
• How long do I need electricity service?
• What type of plan is best for me?
• Do I want a contract? Or go contract free?
• What is renewable electricity?
• What should I look out for when shopping for
electricity plans?
3. PLAN LENGTHS
• If you need electricity for more than 3 months,
you should look into a Fixed Term plan. The
Fixed Term plan is a contract, however you
can lock in your rate for the duration of the
plan and avoid increased costs during
summer.
• Don’t want a contract? The Variable or Prepay
plans might be best for your electricity needs,
these are contract free plans.
4. FIXED CONTRACT VS.
VARIABLE
• Fixed term contract plans lock in your energy charge for
the entire plan. This is for customers who like security
know an average of how much they will be spending on
their monthly electricity bill.
• Variable (month-to-month) plans fluctuate based on the
market rate. However, you can switch to a fixed rate
should you need to down the road.
5. PREPAY PLANS
• Usually referred to as “Pay As You Go’ electricity.
• These prepay plans have No Contact and No Deposit
required.
• Usually for customers who have poor credit.
• When choosing a prepay plan, make sure you are doing
an Autopay draft each month, or else you will keep having
to reload your account to avoid electricity disconnection.
6. RENEWABLE
ELECTRICITY
• Plans for the Eco-Friendly customers
• Typically higher rates, but the sources of electricity are
generated from Wind, Solar, and Hydro just to name a few.
Opposed to coal.
• Refer to the ‘Electricity Facts Label’ to determine the
‘Renewable Content’ of the plan you are signing up for.

• When signing up for electricity service, it is important to
read the electricity facts label on the plans page of the
shopping process.
• Know what monthly fees you have incur, or how much
your energy charge will be.
