Evaluation question 6
1. What have you learnt about technologies from the process if
constructing this product?
2. Group dynamics- the group worked out very well, as
we all have a lot of experience, but in different things.
Zach is a director and creates his own short movies
and edits them himself. Andrew is more of an editor
and has a lot of experience on the new editing tools.
Whereas I am more of a writer and have my
experience from stop motion shorts using online
software. This makes working in the group easy going
as we all know what part to do and we all are friends
outside of this project so we help each other learn. For
example Zach and Andrew taught me editing skills,
and I showed them the importance of a storyboard.
3. Equipment and resources- We wanted to get the most
out of the equipment so when given the option we
took as much as we could. Furthermore since Zach is a
film maker he also had some equipment so we utilised
that as well. The piece of equipment used the most for
filming was the fig rig. This was Zach's rig and it
specialises in a Steadicam shot and a point
of view shot. However this wasn't the only
piece of equipment used, we did utilise the
tripods and the lighting as well as using the
wider lens. This gave us the most optimum
chance of filming how we are used to.

4. Deadline- The deadline was warned from the
start, that we have to film as editing would
take a long time, so the sooner the better.
However in our case the filming took a long
time as we couldn't secure a location.
However being under the pressure of the
deadline as the Easter break, it made us all
work harder and stay after school for several
days. This meant that we finished on the
deadline and didn’t rush anything.
5. Film making- As with anything not every person
agrees with everything, so when writing I had
this in mind. Since I knew that everyone has
their own ideas I left the storyboard vivid to have
the others input there shots, however this
caused a lot of debate as sometimes the good
looking shot isn’t the best. So on the day of
filming I had the storyboard and we based all our
shots from that, and if anyone had an idea for a
shot on the day we would try it and see how it
looked.
6. The three main shots I filmed include the establishing shot of the car
warehouse, the POV shot when Ollie gets attacked and the shot of
Sean kicking the can. I did come up with the ideas of around 80% of
the shots used, so I didn’t prioritise the need for filming as the
important thing to do. However I have two reasons why I didn’t film
more
because I wrote most of the camera shots, its fair that everyone has a
go doing everything and no one person should hog anything
I played Ollie in the thriller, and most shots are centred around Ollie,
so I couldn't film most of it as I was acting
7. For editing I was more to do with sound, so my job was
to pick the appropriate music, edit the good parts of
each song, then to sync the music with the cuts. For
example my favourite part of editing was doing the
sound from the Slik studios to the opening title. I also
synced the piano in time with the screen shots.

8. All in all I think I did very well, as there is only a few
aspects I would change;
I wouldn't act, I would have a professional/ semi
professional actor do it so I could of filmed more
I would of edited more, I did majority sound, but I
would like to have done more sequential editing, but
to be fare it has to be a joint effort and everyone
needs to do something
I completely agree with all my methods except one,
which was leaving the storyboard vivid, next time I
will have exactly what I want to do on paper and
follow it exactly and if there is time, record
suggestions.
9. Because I was acting my main focus was not on
health and safety, however I did ensure that all
equipment was secure, out of shot and no one could
trip on any of the items. However the shot where
Ollie enters the warehouse is shot through an
automatic door, to ensure that the door didn't close
on our equipment or on us I turned the door off just
to be safe.
10. Because of the editing software, we were
able to show the audience a unique
perspective on the hoodie. We were able to
simulate Ollie’s perspective of the hoodie,
which was; he thought it was Sean.
This shot is
supposed to be
what Ollie is
thinking, when he
sees the hoodie
11. Due to the size of the camera some good shots
had to be ditched, as the camera was too large
for someone to hold in place.
Also since the camera has a weird centre of
gravity and only two places to hold it, it was hard
to do the last shot on the skateboard, because
we had to switch between two camera men. So,
too keep the camera still you have to hold it in
the middle, giving the other camera man no
place to hold the camera, making the transition
very tricky.
12. Almost all research was done on www.youtube.com
because almost everything we needed to watch or get
inspiration from was all free to watch on YouTube.
Otherwise I watched some movies that were on TV,
for example Silence of the lambs or Hitman, giving
unique perspectives on certain types of editing
techniques or camera angels. Lastly I am a fan of most
types of TV shows, but some like Dexter, breaking bad
and the walking dead gave me an idea of what people
want to see and what people can infer. This
technology gave me a concrete foundation to base
our thriller on, as these shows or movies aim to thrill
