The story of Singing Daisies
1.
2. On December 27, two days after Christmas, my 9 year old
daughter, Andrea, and I drove to the store where she had 2 gift
cards to redeem. After an hour of deciding what she wanted, we
passed by the gardening isle. Once we passed the seed display, my
daughter told me she wanted to pick some flowers for Mamita.
3. I remembered picking daisy seeds and sunflower seeds, a paint-
it-yourself flower pot, and a watering can. Andrea was very
excited to start a little garden of flowers to give to her mom on
Mother's Day.
4. Last year's Mother's Day celebration, at my daughter's school,
left a vivid memory in her mind. The school planned an event
where each mother would receive a rose. Unfortunately, more
mothers than expected showed up, and my wife was among the
ones that did not receive a rose.
5. As the weeks passed, I woke up daily to the sound of trickling
water hose. There wasn't a single day that my daughter didn't
water her garden.
6. Andrea even placed a ruler on the pot to monitor the growth of
the flowers. I was amazed at how my young daughter had put so
much thought into planning her gift for her mother on Mother's
Day for 5 months.
7. Finally, the Saturday before Mother's Day came, and I was
ready to take my daughter to purchase a card. Apparently she
had other plans and said to me, "I don't need a card Papito. I will
give her something that she will like more."
8. The big day came, and I helped Andrea cut out one of the prettiest
daisies that was in the flower pot. Then, I grabbed the balloons
from the back of the car that I hid the day before. When I
returned, my daughter was writing on a small, folded piece of
paper. I asked her, "What is that?" She answered, "You'll see!"
9. She grabbed a piece of string, made a hole on the paper, and tied
it to one of the leaves of the flower. Excitedly, my daughter
grabbed my hand to push open the door. When my wife woke up
my daughter screamed, "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MAMITA" and
handed her the flower.
10. My daughter was very proud of her flower and told her mother how
she took care of it since December. She explained that she didn't want
Mamita to be sad because of what happened last Mother's Day. My
wife started to cry and gave our daughter a big hug. Then, she saw
the little piece of paper hanging from the flower and asked, "What's
this?" Andrea replied, "Open it Mamita; open it!"
11. When I glanced at the paper, it read,
"Happy Mother's Day Mamita! I love
you!"
