Great Gatsby Symbolism
The symbols shown in both novels can be seen effecting the characters lives in both a positive and
negative way. John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men s author, introduces the character of Lennie, who has
a dream of tending to several rabbits that live on their imaginary farm. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author
of The Great Gatsby, introduces Jay Gatsby, a character who reaches for a green light across the water
representing his hopes and dreams of one day being with his true love again. These symbols,
representing the unattainable dreams the characters have, can be seen damaging their future while the
characters are unaware. The symbolism presented in both Of Mice and Men and The Great Gatsby
reflect the characters dreams which lead to affect their lives. Beyond Lennie s dream of tending the
rabbits in Of Mice and Men, Lennie has been known throughout the novel for hurting just about
everything he touches. So, if Lennie gets the opportunity to tend the rabbits, he will probably kill them
and his dream will never come true. Although, Lennie might not know this dream will not come true,
his best friend, George knows. George said, I think I knowed from the very first. I think I knowed we
d never do her. He usta like to hear about it so much I got to thinking maybe we would (Steinbeck 94).
This meaning, George grasped onto the dream he and Lennie shared, knowing it wasn t going to come
true, to get him through the days. With this, Steinbeck shows how he believes dreams are solely meant
to be dreamt, not reached. Lennie is so focused on the future and what they want to come, he doesn t
realize the harm he has done to the things around him, such as killing the dog, rat, and even killing
Curly s Wife. The rabbits symbolize Lennie s hopes for the future, love, and safety. Lennie, being so
innocent, only believes what George tells him, therefore, whenever he does wrong, the rabbits keep
him feeling safe. Lennie never wanted anything else but to tend the rabbits, he didn t care about the
land or even being free, his mind was solely caught up in the thought of having something for his
entertainment.
Likewise, in the novel, The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald introduces the character of Jay Gatsby, a man
who had a past love with

Disguise in Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night
Disguise is a device Shakespeare employs frequently in both Measure for Measure
and Twelfth Night. It allows a disguised character like the Duke of Vienna to
glean information that would otherwise go unknown, and a character like Viola to
take advantage of potentially beneficial situations. It gives these characters
access to worlds that might otherwise be denied; for the Duke, he can now haunt
assemblies / Where youth and cost a witless bravery keeps (1.4.9 10). For
Viola, she might serve the duke (1.2.51) and thus hopefully keep company with

She hopes to serve Olivia so that, being in the same company as a woman
who has also lost her brother, Viola might make [her] own occasion mellow
(1.2.39) before she is delivered to the world (1.2.38). From the moment that
she takes on this new appearance, however, her plans fall victim to the same
excess that runs throughout the play. Instead of simply being in Orsino s favor
and thus gaining access to Olivia, Viola quickly wins Orsino s devout affection.
Valentine comments that Orsino hath known you but three days, and already you
are / no stranger (1.4.1 4). Viola s disguise achieves her purpose, however:
Orsino tells her to address thy gait unto her, / ... stand at her doors, / ... Till

love with the Duke, saying to him, I ll do my best / To woo your lady and then
aside, yet a barful strife / Whoe er I woo, myself would be his wife
(1.5.40 2).
Viola is not the only one affected by her plan; Olivia falls in love with Viola,
instead of with Orsino. In 2.2, Viola exclaims, Disguise, I see thou art a
wickedness / Wherein the pregnant enemy does much (2.2.27 8). She laments the
tangled state of affairs she has come in to: My master loves [Olivia] dearly, /

Jaffe V. Samsung Elecs
Jaffé v. Samsung Elecs. Co.
Qimonda AG, a German semiconductor manufacturer, had patent cross licenses with many of its
competitors. Such licenses, in industries like electronics, allow parties in effect to have a truce with
respect to patents, so that they may proceed their respective businesses. Qimonda file bankruptcy and
ceased operations, so no longer needed the protection of the cross licenses. Rather, it terminated the
licenses under German bankruptcy law, to replace them with licenses under which it would receive
royalty payments. Qimonda filed a chapter 15 bankruptcy proceeding in the United States, to do the
same with its American licenses. The representative committed to re license Qimonda s patent
portfolio to the Licensees at a reasonable and nondiscriminatory ( RAND ) royalty. However, the
American courts held that US bankruptcy law did not allow licenses. Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy
Code allows the representative of a foreign bankruptcy proceeding to file an ancillary proceeding in
the United States. It also allows broad recognition of orders entered in the foreign bankruptcy
proceeding. But the recognition is subject to certain safeguards. The US bankruptcy court may refuse
to apply the foreign order if the action would be manifestly contrary to the public policy of the United
States. In addition, the court must ensure that the interests of the creditors and other interested entities,
including the debtor, are sufficiently protected.

Negative Thoughts And Shame Addiction
Negative Thoughts and Shame Addiction
Posted on July 20 by johnmerideth
Addiction
When we think about addiction, it seems we mostly talk about substances or activities and rarely about
the deeply set emotions that come with being an addict. Recently I watched the HBO special
Addiction, and was struck by its limited scope in relating dependence or addiction to thoughts. As I
watched the segments, I wondered if they had considered the number of ordinary people struggling
with the less obvious but equally debilitating addiction to shame. Shame drives tapes within the mind
of each person in slightly different ways but the outcome for most of us is the same...unfulfilling
choices.
In the HBO special they did cover how brain imaging research, MRI, illustrates the way in which the
animal brain, the limbic part of our neural anatomy, overrides the decision making prefrontal lobe. It
can be a smell or place or the intensity of a conversation...whatever the cause...once the
addiction/dependence circuit is triggered there is little time for the do you really want to do that
thought to emerge and take hold before the flight or fight response kicks into overdrive. What started
as a survival mechanism, over time, becomes a sure fire method for self abuse and dis ease.
For most of us there is a mental leap to be made between negative thinking induced by shame and
addiction or dependence. We have trouble with the addicted label, at least in part, due to the stigma
attached to the words

The Causes Of Poverty In The Elizabethan England Era
Life in Elizabethan England was hard. While some people believe that the life was great in that era,
but they are mistaken. The life during Elizabethan England era was very hard because of the poverty
levels being very high, the towns were unclean and their diets were very poor. During the Elizabethan
England era there was an outburst of poverty. Others may say that the poverty was not an issue, but
they are mistaken. The poverty created a big issue for the poor because they looked down upon them
and didn t try to help then so more and more people were becoming broke. Poverty became a
widespread problem during the Elizabethan era, so much so that Parliament was forced to enact laws
aimed at dealing with the country s poor on a number of occasions. Initially, these laws took a harsh
view of the poor and even went so far as to criminalize begging and institute severe punishments for
those who were caught in the act. (Elizabethan Class System.) This shows that so many people were in
debut or below the poverty line that they needed to enforce a law. It was such a bad life that people
who need to get money by begging the act in force it as a crime. While Elizabethan England contained
poverty, it was also full of unclean towns/cities. While some say that their life was easy and
joyful, they are mistaken. Who could find stepping in human poop fun? There was no technology back
then that could flush people s waste into the plumbing system so they had to find somewhere to put it.
They had buckets and baskets that they used as toilets. When a person was done they would just throw
it out the balcony, onto the streets. Since the human waste was just on the ground it would just end up
flowing into their watering system. So not only were they walking in their own waste, they were
drinking it too. If a person is drinking human waste then they are bound to end up with diseases.
Elizabethan Illnesses Bubonic Plague, dysentery and typhoid. (Alchin, L.K., Elizabethan Era) That is
only a couple of the main diseases that went around throughout that area. Also it didn t help that they
had little knowledge to help get rid out these disease. They barely knew how to get rid the common
cold not a plague. Elizabethan Medicine

Somnambulism And What Is Transpiring In The Brain
Somnambulism or sleepwalking is a major reason many people wake up with unexplainable bruises or
are wearing an outfit they don t remember putting on. Sleepwalking falls under the wide umbrella of
sleep disorders called parasomnias, or anything that can go amiss during sleep. Although the category
is similar, somnambulism differs from night terrors. Sufferers are not in fact acting out their dreams
but simply moving due to confusion in the central nervous system (Guilleminault, 2006). Many facets
go into explaining what sleepwalking actually is and what is transpiring in the brain. General
knowledge about somnambulism is important due to the reality that so many Americans are affected.
Knowledge of this topic should begin with the causes of this sleep disorder, where and when it occurs,
what happens during an episode, the many things that can go wrong, and what to look for to see if you
or someone you know could suffer from sleepwalking.
Causes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most parasomnias are genetic and can affect people of all ages, though children are more prone to it.
For infants to children up to the age of twelve causes could be anything from sleep loss, fever, or
anxiety. Some adults who develop somnambulism later on in life credit their sleepwalking to a mental
disorder, drugs, alcohol, and even prescription medication. It is important to know there things
because many Americans may be at risk and most of the causes are things we engage in ourselves. We
all take some sort of medication and we all know at least one child who would much rather stay up
then go to sleep at a reasonable

Mike Rugg s Research Bias
Research bias has been the cause for many research projects to have misleading or correct
information. Research bias occurs when the author researches only for articles or writing material that
corresponds to his own ideas. This causes the author to ignore potential writing materials that may
have had an important role in his research. It also causes him to expect results that match with his
mindset and not see other viewpoints. All researchers should avoid research bias by using different
methods and ideas to receive a better result. As you are doing research, it is better to be unbiased
because of the accurate results it will give you. In the Bigfoot video, Mike Rugg is a biased researcher
because of how he only searches for evidence that proves his perspective and decision over Bigfoot.
For example, in the video he explains how the tooth and other evidence ... Show more content on

However, it does not completely prove Bigfoot is real because the evidence is not official and proven.
Mike Rugg s research bias began to occur when he first saw bigfoot as a young child and later when
he created the Bigfoot museum at the end of his career. If Mike Rugg was not a bigfoot supporter and
did not have experience, he would be considered an unbiased researcher. Furthermore, it would have
caused him to be able to accept evidence that proved Bigfoot was not real and have more official
evidence to support his research. To avoid research bias, it is better to not put any of your own ideas,
perspectives, culture, and thoughts into your research. The use of any of these emotions will cause
your research to be biased like Mike Rugg s research in Bigfoot. If you were to already have any type
of knowledge about the subject and have a favored opinion, as a researcher you would have to

Examples Of Dehumanization In Night By Elie Wiesel
Elie Wiesel uses Rhetorical question and Metaphor to demonstrate the effects of dehumanization.
Wiesel uses a Rhetorical Question to demonstrate that dehumanization causes people to not care
whether they live or die. For example Eliezer states that it would not matter when he died: Here or
else where what difference did it make? To die today or tomorrow, or later? The night was long and
never ending (Wiesel 72). This quotation demonstrates that it did not matter when he died because he
knew it was going to happen and Eliezer was careless. The use of the words die today or tomorrow, or
later implies that No matter what day it is either way he will eventually die. Wiesel uses a Metaphor to
demonstrate that dehumanization causes people to

Dance Reflection
Obviously, the goal for the team every year is to win, but we also like to have fun. Natalie Meloche
elaborates on how she feels about spending countless hours at the studio perfecting her routines,
Going to dance class is my favorite part of my day because I can always escape whatever is going on
in my life and just let loose and dance. I also love to see my friends and teachers as well. In fact, three
of the four girls I got answers from said they enjoyed going to class while the fourth had mixed feeling
about it. Although for the majority of the girls, being in class was their favorite part. My favorite part
was all of the team bonding that we did. Outside of the practice rooms, the team went to the movies
together, painted pottery, played laser tag, and took trips to the cider mill.
Every year, the older girls on the team are paired with one of the younger girls as a mentor. The goal
as a big buddy is to show your little buddy that dance was not just about how well you place at
awards, that dance is about expressing yourself in a way that builds your confidence and helps you
realize that hard work pays off. You just have to be willing to take the comments given to you. Claire
Binguit recalled the moment when a critique changed her outlook on everything: the most memorable
feedback I ve ever gotten was from ms carol saying if you weren t so lazy you could be great step it up
I know you have the potential and I believe in you . Aleah Soliman, a member of the teen team, recalls
a recent time when a teacher s comment boosted her confidence, my teacher told me how good my
solo looked after just a couple weeks doing it . From my experience in my own solo and my many
many years of listening to comments from judges and teachers, I have learned that although some
comments can be extremely hard to hear, they are meant to make you better and will help you in the
long run. Everyone at the studio is actively applying their comments which results in better scores,
which results in wins at competitions, which again is the main goal of being on the competitive team.
Ever since the competition team was started, there has been a contract that every year each dancer and
their parent/guardian sign the contract

Psychodynamic Theorists
Selective Mutism in Adolescents As the makeup of students in classrooms change and general
education teachers are educating a range of students with diverse needs, new learning barriers are
becoming prominent in American classrooms. One of these learning disabilities that is emerging is a
language disorder called selective mutism. Selective mutism is defined as a language disorder in
which individuals who exhibit normal language skills with no delays in daily home situations are
unwilling or unable to speak when confronted with novel situations or people. This disorder, when
presented in classrooms, can affect both the social and the academic progress of the student. When
considering students who exhibit symptoms of selective mutism, ... Show more content on

Psychodynamic theorists believe that selective mutism is a choice made by the child to have power
over a certain part of their life. This could be a way for the child to assert control in response to a fight
with a parent. These theorists believe that children with selective mutism chose not to speak in public
to maintain their power, despite having the ability to speak. Researches emphasize the idea that
children often continue this relationship with new individuals who can remove this power, such as a
new teacher. Differing from psychodynamic theorists, behaviorists believe that children have been
taught to use silence to help control the anxiety that they might feel. For example, if a child is
uncomfortable in a certain situation, chooses not to speak, and has reduced anxiety, they have learned
that silence is an effective tool (Busse Downey, 2011). . Selective mutism was first diagnosed by
Adolf Kussmaul in the 1800s. The named it aphasia voluntaria to emphasize the idea that individuals
made a voluntary decision to maintain silence (Busse Downey, 2011). In time, this original name
became elective mutism . This new name reflected that the individual chose the environment in which
they would speak. Once again, the name of the disorder was changed to become selective mutism .
The current name of the disorder shows that the individual s ability to speak is not about choice, but

Were the Colonists Justified in Their Rebellion against England? Yes Did the Colonists Have an
Adequate Cause for Revolution? No
Starting after the termination of the Seven Year s war, by the Peace of Paris, England repeatedly
violated the American Colonists rights. A series of events, happening between 1763(ending of the
Seven Years war) and 1775 (starting of the revolution), could be taken as motives for the American s
revolution. The Americans claimed that through both, the Sugar Act (1764) and the Stamp Act (1765),
the British dishonored their rights to taxation. The Townshend Acts also infuriated the Americans, and
as in all other circumstances, they were willing to fight for their rights. The final justification for the ...

The Americans surely refused when asked, by the parliament to revoke the circular letter passed by the
Massachusetts assembly. This created more unity among the colonies, which added to the Acts, were
one more justification for their rebellion.
The Coercive Acts, passed in 1774, were the biggest justification for the revolution. They were known
as the Intolerable Acts. The Acts closed the port of Boston, restructured the Massachusetts
government, allowed British officials to be tried in court in either Canada or Europe, and allowed
troops to be quartered wherever needed. The Americans felt that all these were violations of their
rights and that they had been forced to obey laws that violated their rights.
All the above decribed Acts and laws, were a justification for the revolution. However, they are not
valid causes for the rebellion. Considering that the main justification for the revolution was the
passing of the Coercive Acts, these Acts, were only passed because of the Boston Tea party. The
Americans might have said that they were full of all the taxes, and that Englang went too far with the
Tea Act. However Most of the taxes the Americans paid, were much lower than the taxes the Britsh
paid over the same goods.
Ultimately, the colonists were justified in their rebellion against England. However they did not have
an adequate cause for revolution.

The Role Of Religion During The Middle Ages
There is irrefutable evidence that over the period of the Middle Ages, both Christianity and Islam have
been anchors in both shaping and influencing governance of kingdoms and empires comprising
Western Europe, the Byzantine Empire, and territories ruled by Islam. Religion during this period was
widely used to set laws, influence culture, justify armed conflicts, and pronounce punishment on
citizens domiciled within the geographies depicted within this essay. I will attempt to illuminate the

The era from about 500 to 1000 C.E. is sometimes referred to as the Dark Ages in European history,
partly because many aspects of the Roman civilization were lost, such as written language, advanced
architectural and building techniques, complex government, and access to long distance trade. For the
most part, these early people of Europe could not read or write, and lived much as their nomadic
ancestors had. In their isolation, they slowly cleared the forested areas for farming, but their greatest
need was for protection. However, the need for protection grew to be most important when the
Vikings from Scandinavia invaded many areas of Europe in the 8th and 9th centuries, followed by the
Magyars, who came from the east in the late 9th century. In response, Europeans established
feudalism as a way to unite and protect them.
European feudal institutions revolved around political and military relationships. The feudal political
order developed into a complicated network of lord vassal relationships, with lords having overlords,
and overlords owing allegiance to kings. On these foundations early kingdoms, such as England and
France, were built, but in other areas, such as modern day Germany, the feudal organization remained
highly decentralized.

A Study On Mcnabs Island
Over the past 4 months, I have been extensively studying McNabs Island. From studying elevation,
slope, landscape materials, coastal processes, hydrology, climate patterns, slope aspect, as well as
vegetation I was able to create a synthesis map of the ideal areas where an environmental education
center could possibly be placed on the island without harming the island natural environment and
processes. This report includes an analysis of the island, a constraints and opportunities summary, as
well as inventory maps, analysis maps, and the final synthesis map.
McNabs Island is located south east of Halifax, Nova Scotia within the Halifax harbour. McNabs is
surrounded by the Halifax Peninsula and has Lawlor island near its south eastern side. In the past
McNabs Island was used by the military as a location for forts such as that of Fort Ives as well as an
area for fish processing because of its coastal beaches (Manuel Thompson, 2016). It was also used as
an area to live on, particularly by the McNabs family (Manuel Thompson, 2016). In the early 1900 s
the Davis family located their soft and alcoholic drink processing facility on the island.
McNabs Island has a surface area of 460ha. The elevations on McNabs Island range from 0m to 40m
in height. Predominately the areas of higher elevation are where the drumlin hills are located while the
lower areas lie between drumlins and around the coastline. McNabs Island has 4 major drumlins

Film Censorship
The influence of media on the individual is always the first concern when a new medium of
entertainment is introduced in society. Whether it be the idea that violent video games instill
aggression in its players, or that exposure to rap music inspires drug use, fear of media s influence has
plagued modern society as new technological advancements inundate Americans lives
overwhelmingly often. This fear, however, is not limited to the current age of smartphones and virtual
reality headsets. When moving pictures first appeared in nickelodeon theaters across the country in the
early twentieth century, it was met with similar reactions. Many individuals believed exposing the
American public to questionable topics such as criminal activity and prostitution would incite in the
audience the desire to replicate the scenes depicted on screen. Among those advocating on behalf of
the moving picture were Charles Sprague Smith and John Collier of the People s Institute. They ...

The Afro Americans and The Civil War
No officer in this regiment now doubts that the key to the successful prosecution of this war lies in the
unlimited employment of black troops. Their superiority lies simply in the fact that they know the
country, while white troops do not, and, moreover, that they have peculiarities of temperament,
position, and motive which belong to them alone. Instead of leaving their homes and families to fight

The Proclamation also provided the acceptance of black men into the Union Army and Navy, thereby
letting those who were liberated to become liberators. Almost
200,000 black soldiers and sailors had fought for the Union and their freedom by the end of the war.
From the beginning of the Civil War, the slaves had acted to secure their own freedom.
The Emancipation Proclamation made the blacks realize that the war for the Union must become a
war for freedom. This added a moral force to the Union cause that strengthened the Union, both
militarily and politically. This document was a milestone on the road to slavery s final destruction.
When we see the words or read about the Colored Troops of the United States, we have to ask

The Caste System Of India Essay
He also mentioned that for a long time ago, there has been a caste system which organized the social
structure in India. There were four major castes: Brahmans, who have spiritual wisdom or act like a
priest, Kshatriyas, who are a ruler or an organization, the Vaisya, farmers and traders, and the Sudras,
the follower or servants. However, he argued that the stratification is now becoming not so relevant
because people can access education and reach a better condition. This information similar to Hodge
(2004) explanation about the caste system and the structure now is transformed by the modernization

Survival Of Tsarism Essay
How far were divisions amongst opponents responsible for the survival of Tsarist rule, 1881 1905?
Divisions of opposing groups of the Tsar were important to the survival of Tsarist Russia. However,
other factors such as the church, the belief of the divine right, the army and the Okhrana were also
effective in keeping the Tsar in a state of power.
Firstly, the opposition groups of the Tsar were known as the Populists, the Liberals and the Marxists.
Each group had its own ideas on what was needed for Russia and each group wanted change,
however, there were many problems within the groups and none of them were willing to work with
each other. The Populists who were mainly concentrated on establishing a democratic government

These teachings were a massive problem for the Populists when they assassinated Tsar Alexander II,
the people of Russia had seen the culprits publicly hanged by the Tsar s son, Alexander III and this
caused massive hatred towards the opposition group, especially as the Populists were built up of 85%
of the peasant population! The Tsar was seen as the Dear Father , who would want to kill someone
who had been put on the throne by God himself?
Thirdly, the Tsar had the benefit of controlling the army and the secret police force, the Okhrana. The
Tsar was the commander and chief of the Russian army, he had total control of it and they had been
loyal to the Tsar for many years (Nicholas I had an input in creating the Okhrana). The army and the
Okhrana were used very efficiently by the Tsars. If anybody opposed the Tsar with violent protests or
demonstrations, the army would be called in and many of the protesters would be shot and trampled
on by horses. As well as removing current threats to the Tsar, the armies input effected possible
opponents, as they knew what their own fate would be if they also tried to oppose the Dear father .
The Okhrana was also very effective, it was known for infiltrating opposition groups and dividing
them even further. If an opposition group member was caught, they would be exiled to Siberia to die a

Alfred Gell And The Art Nexus
Alfred Gell and the Art Nexus This relationship between creator and consumer, and how the consumer
s involvement is responsible for authenticating social identities is best understood in terms of what
Alfred Gell calls the art nexus. In his book Art and Agency, Gell s theory of the art nexus considers the
living presence response where viewers, or recipients, react to works of art as if they are living beings
or even persons, that in turn act back upon the viewer, entering into a personal relationship with them
that elicit a feeling or reaction. Through the art nexus, Gell demonstrates how art objects are able to
embody intentionalities and facilitate agency. The art nexus becomes a network of social relations,
mediating the push and pull ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of her Hot Babe persona, her prototype. The photographs, though constructed, become indexical to her
followers, or the recipient and in this case also the patient. By filtering the images through the art

means of her followers consumption of the images and posted comments, becomes validated. The
feedback left on her Instagram and Facebook pages reveal an unraveling of her artistic online persona,
as Hot Babe invaded both her digital and personal world. The interactive nature of sites like Instagram

those comments betray the fact that most of her 70,000 followers had no idea she was an artist. Of

Examples Of Love In Lanval
Throughout the lais Lanval, there has been two examples of courtly love that I have noticed. Both of
the courtly love s that are presented in the story are from two different perspectives and they also are a
part of the main story plot. The first love was between Queen Semiramis and Lanval (Norton
Anthology pg. 1034). In this instant, this love is presented of a perfect and secret love. Lanval and
Queen Semiramis share a love that is supposed to be hidden instead of flaunted throughout the lands.
The Queen sends Lanval home and tells him not to boast about this love and that if he will, he will

The Importance Of Kneeling During The National Anthem
It has been a custom of all citizens, including professional athletes, to stand and remove their hats
during the National Anthem since 1931. Although as of late, in an obscure manner of protest, many
athletes and now fans have been kneeling during the National Anthem. Perhaps no group has more
influence of the general public than professional athletes, which has been clearly documented as of
late. All of this protest began when Colin Kaepernick, a back up quarterback for the San Francisco
49ers, kneeled during the National Anthem in the 49er s first preseason game. Although this form of
protest is very peaceful, many people believe it is disrespectful and have begun to question
Kaepernick s patriotism. Kneeling during the National Anthem creates a lot of tension between
citizens, especially when it is used to protest a highly controversial topic to begin with. Kneeling
during the National Anthem began as a protest about police brutality and racial injustice but exploded
into many other subcategories and arguments. Many people have begun to question the integrity and
beliefs of many players who have used kneeling or sitting during the National Anthem as a form of
protest. One of the more frequents interpretations of the protest has been that the protestors don t
support our military or government. Although an article recently released quickly ended those
misinterpretation, Kaepernick announced afterward that he would donate the first million of his $11.9

Coca Cola wanted to continue its international expansion because it believed that the U.S. market
would eventually reach maturity, and that growth prospects were better overseas. For much of its
initial expansion, Coca Cola followed a localization strategy, allowing each country unit to manage its
own operations. QUESTION 2: Why did Coca Cola change its initial strategy? What strategy did
Coca Cola start to pursue in 2000? What were the benefits of this strategy to Coca Cola? What were
the drawbacks? ANSWER 2: In the 1980s, Coca Cola changed its strategy from a localization
approach where individual country units essentially ran their own operations, to a more centralized
approach where key management and marketing activities took place at the company headquarters in
Atlanta. The company extended this strategy to include foreign bottlers. By taking equity stakes in the
bottlers, Coca Cola was able to exert greater control over them. Coca Cola made the shift to the global
standardization strategy because it believed that by doing so, the company could gain significant
economies of scale. However, by 2000, the company was ready to change its strategy once again.
Coca Cola was losing market share to companies that used a more localized strategy, and under the
guidance of its new CEO, Coca Cola began once again to give local managers more decision making
power. This time however, while giving country managers the autonomy to tailor product

Psychology In Nazi Germany
The Nazis believed that people were not equal. To them, some individuals were not worthy of basic
human rights or even life itself, because of their identity. Jews, Roma, People with Disabilities and
homosexuals were all considered less human and therefore were targets of Nazi murder. Before these
killings began, the Nazis enlisted medical professionals to euthanize people with disabilities. The Nazi
Euthanasia Program was, in fact, intentional killings of thousands of people with disabilities without
consent. Medical professionals who euthanized thousands of people with disabilities in Nazi Germany
are guilty of murder because the patients did not consent, following orders is not an adequate defense,

BACKGROUND
Officers, Directors and Members of the Board of Directors are responsible for upholding a public
trust. We are called to a higher standard of stewardship in order to meet the special privileges that our
tax exempt status allows. Actions of Board Members, Officers and Directors should meet or exceed
these higher standards rather than only minimally satisfy the requirements of tax exempt status. Areas
of behavior to be avoided include personal conflicts of interest by Board Members, Officers, and
Directors, questionable investments, improper use of funds raised (especially for personal inurement),
expensive and inefficient fundraising practices, failure to meet legal requirements and similar
offenses.
The Board Members, Officers and Directors of Sinai Free Synagogue (hereinafter, the Corporation )

Comparing The White Man s Burden And The Poisonwood Bible
Weighed down, overwhelmed, accountability, and responsibility. These are all aspects of having a
burden, but what exactly is the burden of a white man? Labor? Money? Extreme temperatures? No,
far from it actually. In the poem the White Man s Burden, Kipling portrays the Burden as having to
civilize the uncultured heathens of Africa. The family in The Poisonwood Bible have this particular
burden. However, the family is divided on how they think about this so called burden . These two
works of literature go together like peanut butter and jelly. They walk hand in hand to expose the
downfalls of colonialism and superiority. The Poisonwood Bible has a family that is sent to the Congo
to help the Congolese people by introducing them to the Christian faith. In The White Man s Burden,
it talks of civilizing the uncivilized or changing them. Just as the Price family is doing to the
Congolese people. However the question remains. Is it the family s job to civilize these people? Well,
many believe not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Expansionary Monetary Policy
The federal reserve should adopt expansionary monetary policy to stimulate the economy to promote
growth and development. Currently our nation is in a position where there is no compelling reason to
raise interest rates to combat inflation, therefor for the short term I believe we need to push for
continuing to decrease unemployment and aim for wage growth. The economic outlook is unclear as
foreign economic developments, in particular, pose risks to the United State s economy. Expansionary
monetary policy promotes a positive impact in a few different areas like local investment and global
economy. Monetary expansion entails increasing the amount of money that is in our economy. This
can be done by the Federal Reserve purchasing United States treasury bonds, reducing the federal

It is evident that we take action now to aid our economic activity. We can do this by adopting an

Sunset Blvd Analysis
From coloring and lighting to music direction and the score, there are many ways for a film s story to
be told. Film noir mirrors its detective pulp book predecessors, where a strong narrative character is
key and the protagonist walks a fine line between hero and villain. The use of voice over, black and
white film, and evocative lighting techniques define the style we know today. Modern films, such as
The Artist (2011) and Sin City (2005), attempt to incorporate these creative devices, but unlike their
predecessors, these techniques don t support and further thematic developments. In
director/screenwriter Billy Wilder s classic features, Double Indemnity (1944) and Sunset Blvd.

The ability to color film has been around since the 1920s and in 1939, films like Gone With The Wind
(1939) and The Wizard Of Oz (1939) utilized these processes to create a film spectacle. Film noir
translates to dark film and Sunset Blvd. and Double Indemnity fit that both physically and
thematically. The use of black and white film blurs the lines between good and evil. Without the use of
color to easily distinguish the villains from the heroes, we are unsure of who we can and cannot trust.
The lack of color allows the viewer to focus on content and forces them to concentrate on what is on
screen. It is easier to make color look good on film, as it requires less work. It is much harder to make
color associate with the story. Black and white film requires the skill of balance between dark and
light in a scene. When done correctly, it can become a character of its own, helping breath life into sets
such as Norma s immense mansion. Both films exaggerate the use of shadows giving the feel of a
horror film. Lighting does more than draw focus on a character. It can be used to showcase the
deceitfulness of a character and highlight their sinister deeds. Lighting can hide the truth from the
audience and shroud the plot in mystery. In Sunset Blvd., Norma is shown in the shadows while she is
in her home. During the famous We had

Sonnets increasing popularity is evident in the Renaissance through Shakespeare s works. However,
Shakespeare, like many other poets, imitates the literary pieces of famous poets of the time such as

Renaissance period before the Elizabethan period greatly appreciated the works of Petrarch, a poet

Labor per square foot is the given rate per square foot of floor area. Initial Preparatory Work involves
all actions required to be completed before the contractor can begin working on the floor. There are
three parts to this section. Initially, all the furniture and fixtures (toilet, sinks not attached to walls)
need to be removed. Depending on the quantity/size of furniture/fixtures that need to be removed,
contractors will typically charge between $15 and $50 per hour. Customers can cut out this cost if they
agree to have the items removed prior to the contractor arriving. However, if it is agreed upon and the
items are not removed, the contractor will usually charge 150% of the normal rate, because this will
add additional time to the job, causing him to possibly run behind schedule for another job, and he
schedules jobs based on time estimates. The next part is the removal and disposal of the existing floor.
The price for this can range from $25 to $75 per hour, based on the type of flooring being removed.
Carpet and vinyl are easy to remove, thus would be on the low end. Tile is more difficult because
mortar is used to install it and all of that has to be broken up and removed. Again, the customer can
save during this phase if they do the removal themselves, with the same penalty if not removed prior
to the contractor arrival. The final part of this phase is repairing the subfloor. Costs for this repair vary
greatly on what needs to be repaired, and are usually

Piaget Of A Child s Brain Development Theory
In today s society, we are constantly learning about new theories and expanding the knowledge on
those that we already know, about the physical and mental development of Children. Through past and
present theorists, we are shown whole new aspects of how a child develops to make up the being that
they become. Through Piaget s Congnitive development theory we are shown the stages of a child s
brain development with a strong focus on the ages newborn 11 years onwards. Piaget s main theory is
that children are able to construct their own knowledge as they manipulate and explore their world for
themselves. Another theorist I am going to explore in this piece is, Bronfenbrenner. Bronfenbrenner
began his theories soon after Piaget, and took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bronfenbrenner began his studies in 1870 on the effects of neighbourhood on the development of
children s concepts. He is a well known chid developmental psychologist and is most commonly
known for his theory on ecological systems and how that effects a child development. Bronfenbrenner
argued that in order to understand human development, one must consider the entire ecological system
in which growth occurs (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). The system is inclusive of 5 influencing factors
from the environment which he believes to have an impact on child development such as, school and
family, values but he also intertwines his theory with culture and cultural beliefs by using the
macrosystem which is the patterns of culture. He believe that while all these environmental factors
had an effect on child development, culture was/is a huge part in a childs upbringing which then plays
a part on their development. Much of developmental psychology is the science of the strange
behaviour of children in strange situations with strange adults (Bronfenbrenner 2009).
A key idea in Piaget s theory was cognitive development and how it relates to the 4 stages he created
in his theory. Each stage is age related which is a key concept in

The Theories Of Natural Selection
Natural selection is most often used in the area of the natural sciences, but can apply to other fields.
The knowledge question, how does knowledge develop over time? will be explored within the context
of history and the natural sciences. Natural selection will be defined, in the context of this
investigation as, knowledge progresses as evidence is discovered and verified. Thus the theories that
have persisted in a particular subject are the most accurate ones, supported by plentiful evidence.
History relies upon evidence from an earlier time period, both in artifacts and primary source
documents. New theories about the fate of the colonists at Roanoke have developed after the
rediscovery of the Dare Stones. Louis Hammond discovered the first ... Show more content on

Despite the evidence of evolution, many people belonging to strict religious faiths do not accept it as
part of their scientific knowledge. They primarily rely upon their faith, even in a subject largely
dominated by reason. Therefore, any evidence presented will be filtered through a colored lens. This
results in confirmation bias, the tendency to accept only evidence that supports one s presumptions.
Thus the validity of certain pieces of evidence may conflict with the knower s own perspective which
must be taken into account to attain a full picture of that discipline. My own faith led me to approach
evolution from a narrow minded point of view until recently. When I began to search for true
knowledge I came to an understanding about the nature of evolution. I am currently exploring the idea
that faith and reason do not have to conflict. Both ways of knowing give a more complete
understanding of the universe. So although a specific way of knowing may support a certain theory,
other ways can contrast with the knowledge presented. This adds an essential condition to the thesis,
that the validity of the evidence is determined based on acceptance by a vast majority of the
community within that field. It is not necessary for everyone to agree with an idea, only the greater
part of the community of individuals knowledgeable in the field. Additionally, reasons for certain
historical events are

Comparing Three Creation Myths
Beginning with the first chapter in the Book of Genesis, 1:1 31 through to 2:1 3, which is the most
recognized Hebrew and Christian version of the Creation story. On the first day God creates heaven,
Earth, day and night. Then on the second day the skies and oceans are formed. Next on the third day is
the creation of dry land, vegetation and fruit trees. This is followed on the fourth day with the
formation of the sun, moon and stars. On the fifth day all creatures that swim along with all creatures
that fly are created. Finally, on the sixth day God creates all of the other remaining creatures and
animals that will live on the earth as well as man and woman. Afterwards, with all of his work
completed God takes a rest on the seventh day. Whereas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next generation in the Enuma Elish are Anshar, god of heaven, and Kishar, goddess of Earth, who
creates the Earth and heavens. Ahura Mazda follows the in same with the creation of the Earth. The
fourth day the sun, moon and stars are created by God. The fourth generation from the Enuma Elish is
Anu, god of the sky, who creates the moon and the sun. Ahura Mazda on the fourth day creates plants.
On the fifth day, God creates all creatures that swim in the oceans and seas along with those fly. The
fifth generation is Ea, god of all things of the Earth, and when he speaks the animals that swim and fly
are created. On the fifth cycle, Ahura Mazda creates all animals large and small. On the sixth day, God
creates land animals and mankind. Marduk is the sixth generation and he creates mankind to do the
manual labor. Ahura Mazda creates Gayomard, the first man and fire. Finally, on day seven God rests,
after all the fighting Marduk rests, however, the story of Ahura Mazda continues as he prepares to
fight with an evil spirit. From the Canaanite dialect of the Semitic language the word lehem, which is

The Side Show Analysis
The movie Parable perplexed me about the meaning behind it at first. I knew the mime riding on the
donkey was supposed to depict Jesus, but I did not understand what the mime was doing in each of the
episodes. The episode where the mime helps the Roustabout carry the buckets of water up the hill to
the elephants was confusing to me. The dunk tank scene was also very confusing to me, as well as the
side show and the puppets. The only scenes I understood from the beginning was when the mime was
hung in the harness and when Magnus disguised himself as Jesus. I understood that the mime hanging
in the harness was suppose to relate to the crucifixion. I also understood that Magnus disguising
himself as Jesus is like evil disguising as good. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I learned that the episode where the mime helps the Roustabout is supposed to show Jesus helping
those in need and lifting a burden. The mime lifted the Roustabout s burdens by carrying the heavy
buckets of water up the steep hill. I later understood after the class discussion that the dunk tank scene
is meant to show targeting those who are different, bullying, and racism. The man throwing the balls
targeted the black man in a form of racism. The Side Show episode later became clear to me after the
discussion. This episode shows exploitation, which is making money from someone else s misfortune
or taking advantage of people. The Side Show charged people money to get in and watch the magician
place knives into the box which his assistant was in. The Puppets episode later became clear to me
after the discussion, also. This episode shows the audience of the circus leaving as the mime placed
himself in the harness just like Jesus followers left. I later understood that the man on the donkey
riding along the road at the beginning but off the road at the end is supposed to tell you to not get
sidetracked by following the wrong path, hence the man riding on a different path than everyone else.
The movie Parable can be explained by watching it while listening to the Godspell music. The song
Turn Back, O Man can explain Magnus, who is the power of evil, waking up to turn

Awake of the Civil War
In the wake of the Civil War, Congress acceded to pressure to have the federal government intercede
to secure African Americans rights. What were some of the long range effects of that government
posture?
The Union Victory in the Civil War in 1865 granted freedom to approximately 4 million slaves,
however, the process of rebuilding the South during the Reconstruction period 1865 1877 brought a
lot of challenges. In 1865 and 1866 under the supervision of President Andrew Johnson, new Southern
state legislatives passed the black codes to control the labor and behavior of former slaves and other
African Americans. During the Radical Reconstruction in 1869, new enfranchised blacks had a voice
in the government for the first time in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although freedom to become citizens took longer and the fight more difficult, a great number of
African Americans steadily gained various rights which accumulated over time. It is important to note
that racial segregations momentum dissipated over time as more and more blacks held positions of
authority and congressional approval overwhelmingly supported more rights for blacks. Nonetheless,
it is also imperative to consider how white supremacists such as the KKK fought to undo the
important developments. Till this day, both the executive legislative and judiciary wings of
government are constantly battling instances of racial segregation. However, the long range effects of
federal government struggle to secure equal rights for African Americans has been significant
successes in the rise of African American entrepreneurship. The proliferation of blacks in both
government and civil society, the rise of blacks in academia, sports and liberal arts are long effects of
the fight for African American rights. This has progressively opened up American society and in a
way, levelled the playing field. Also this federal government action to intervene in the affairs of the
state has lived on throughout the 21st century.

America Should Pursue Alternative Energy Sources Essay
America Should Pursue Alternative Energy Sources
In todays world the demand for more energy to power peoples electronic filled lives is ever growing.
Nations around the world are looking for ways to supply this much called for energy and are asking
the question should they make the move from traditional energy sources and turn to more renewable
alternatives? American has answered this question and is among the nations pursuing alternative
energy sources. America should pursue alternative energy sources because With only 5 percent of the
worlds population, the United States consumes almost one quarter (22.5%) of global energy . (((Josef
Bram, 15))) With such a small percentage of the world s population and still one of the largest
consumers of energy the U.S should be looking for new and better ways to generate energy. Currently
The U.S s energy is supplied using traditional sources. According to Canadian scientist and policy
analyst Vaclav Smil Todays energy 29% from coal, 33% from oil and gas, and 33% from soft energy
(alternative sources) (((Smil, 47))) Most of the energy we use on a daily basis is not produced using
clean methods. Some alternative energy sources that are already in place within the United Stats are
wind, solar, and hydraulic.
First, wind power is one alternative energy source that America should pursue. Wind power is one of
most noticeable of the main alternatives. The power of wind is captured using tall wind turbines or
windmills. These turbines

Army Leadership Definition
Too often the Army seeks to solve dynamic issues through management processes while underutilizing
leadership. The Army is prone to this in part because it does not distinguish between leadership and
management in doctrine or practice. There has been an ongoing debate in Military review as to the
relationship between command, leadership and management. In the Army, leadership and management
merge into one concept. As leadership is doctrinally conceptualized in managerial terms, it limits the
scope of personal power. It is difficult, if not impossible, to conduct management functions that stretch
outside the bounds of a given authority. Management is important and necessary; however, leadership
initiates effective and lasting change in our Soldiers. The Army s definition of leadership is the
process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation (ADP 6 22, 2012).
However, the Army s, Army Doctrinal Reference Publication (ADRP) 1 02 does not include a
doctrinal definition for management nor is there a definition in the Joint Publication 1 02. Merriam
Webster defines management as the act or art conducting or supervising (Merriam Webster, 2017). ...

  • 2. Great Gatsby Symbolism The symbols shown in both novels can be seen effecting the characters lives in both a positive and negative way. John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men s author, introduces the character of Lennie, who has a dream of tending to several rabbits that live on their imaginary farm. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby, introduces Jay Gatsby, a character who reaches for a green light across the water representing his hopes and dreams of one day being with his true love again. These symbols, representing the unattainable dreams the characters have, can be seen damaging their future while the characters are unaware. The symbolism presented in both Of Mice and Men and The Great Gatsby reflect the characters dreams which lead to affect their lives. Beyond Lennie s dream of tending the rabbits in Of Mice and Men, Lennie has been known throughout the novel for hurting just about everything he touches. So, if Lennie gets the opportunity to tend the rabbits, he will probably kill them and his dream will never come true. Although, Lennie might not know this dream will not come true, his best friend, George knows. George said, I think I knowed from the very first. I think I knowed we d never do her. He usta like to hear about it so much I got to thinking maybe we would (Steinbeck 94). This meaning, George grasped onto the dream he and Lennie shared, knowing it wasn t going to come true, to get him through the days. With this, Steinbeck shows how he believes dreams are solely meant to be dreamt, not reached. Lennie is so focused on the future and what they want to come, he doesn t realize the harm he has done to the things around him, such as killing the dog, rat, and even killing Curly s Wife. The rabbits symbolize Lennie s hopes for the future, love, and safety. Lennie, being so innocent, only believes what George tells him, therefore, whenever he does wrong, the rabbits keep him feeling safe. Lennie never wanted anything else but to tend the rabbits, he didn t care about the land or even being free, his mind was solely caught up in the thought of having something for his entertainment. Likewise, in the novel, The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald introduces the character of Jay Gatsby, a man who had a past love with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Disguise in Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and Twelfth... Disguise in Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night Disguise is a device Shakespeare employs frequently in both Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night. It allows a disguised character like the Duke of Vienna to glean information that would otherwise go unknown, and a character like Viola to take advantage of potentially beneficial situations. It gives these characters access to worlds that might otherwise be denied; for the Duke, he can now haunt assemblies / Where youth and cost a witless bravery keeps (1.4.9 10). For Viola, she might serve the duke (1.2.51) and thus hopefully keep company with Olivia, who also lost a brother. Disguise is especially appropriate in the ... From the moment that she takes on this new appearance, however, her plans fall victim to the same excess that runs throughout the play. Instead of simply being in Orsino s favor and thus gaining access to Olivia, Viola quickly wins Orsino s devout affection. Valentine comments that Orsino hath known you but three days, and already you are / no stranger (1.4.1 4). Viola s disguise achieves her purpose, however: Orsino tells her to address thy gait unto her, / ... stand at her doors, / ... Till thou have audience (1.4.15 18). • 6. Jaffe V. Samsung Elecs Jaffé v. Samsung Elecs. Co. Qimonda AG, a German semiconductor manufacturer, had patent cross licenses with many of its competitors. Such licenses, in industries like electronics, allow parties in effect to have a truce with respect to patents, so that they may proceed their respective businesses. Qimonda file bankruptcy and ceased operations, so no longer needed the protection of the cross licenses. Rather, it terminated the licenses under German bankruptcy law, to replace them with licenses under which it would receive royalty payments. Qimonda filed a chapter 15 bankruptcy proceeding in the United States, to do the same with its American licenses. The representative committed to re license Qimonda s patent portfolio to the Licensees at a reasonable and nondiscriminatory ( RAND ) royalty. However, the American courts held that US bankruptcy law did not allow licenses. Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code allows the representative of a foreign bankruptcy proceeding to file an ancillary proceeding in the United States. It also allows broad recognition of orders entered in the foreign bankruptcy proceeding. But the recognition is subject to certain safeguards. The US bankruptcy court may refuse to apply the foreign order if the action would be manifestly contrary to the public policy of the United States. In addition, the court must ensure that the interests of the creditors and other interested entities, including the debtor, are sufficiently protected. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Negative Thoughts And Shame Addiction Negative Thoughts and Shame Addiction Posted on July 20 by johnmerideth Addiction When we think about addiction, it seems we mostly talk about substances or activities and rarely about the deeply set emotions that come with being an addict. Recently I watched the HBO special Addiction, and was struck by its limited scope in relating dependence or addiction to thoughts. As I watched the segments, I wondered if they had considered the number of ordinary people struggling with the less obvious but equally debilitating addiction to shame. Shame drives tapes within the mind of each person in slightly different ways but the outcome for most of us is the same...unfulfilling choices. In the HBO special they did cover how brain imaging research, MRI, illustrates the way in which the animal brain, the limbic part of our neural anatomy, overrides the decision making prefrontal lobe. It can be a smell or place or the intensity of a conversation...whatever the cause...once the addiction/dependence circuit is triggered there is little time for the do you really want to do that thought to emerge and take hold before the flight or fight response kicks into overdrive. What started as a survival mechanism, over time, becomes a sure fire method for self abuse and dis ease. For most of us there is a mental leap to be made between negative thinking induced by shame and addiction or dependence. We have trouble with the addicted label, at least in part, due to the stigma attached to the words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Causes Of Poverty In The Elizabethan England Era Life in Elizabethan England was hard. While some people believe that the life was great in that era, but they are mistaken. The life during Elizabethan England era was very hard because of the poverty levels being very high, the towns were unclean and their diets were very poor. During the Elizabethan England era there was an outburst of poverty. Others may say that the poverty was not an issue, but they are mistaken. The poverty created a big issue for the poor because they looked down upon them and didn t try to help then so more and more people were becoming broke. Poverty became a widespread problem during the Elizabethan era, so much so that Parliament was forced to enact laws aimed at dealing with the country s poor on a number of occasions. Initially, these laws took a harsh view of the poor and even went so far as to criminalize begging and institute severe punishments for those who were caught in the act. (Elizabethan Class System.) This shows that so many people were in debut or below the poverty line that they needed to enforce a law. It was such a bad life that people who need to get money by begging the act in force it as a crime. While Elizabethan England contained poverty, it was also full of unclean towns/cities. While some say that their life was easy and joyful, they are mistaken. Who could find stepping in human poop fun? There was no technology back then that could flush people s waste into the plumbing system so they had to find somewhere to put it. They had buckets and baskets that they used as toilets. When a person was done they would just throw it out the balcony, onto the streets. Since the human waste was just on the ground it would just end up flowing into their watering system. So not only were they walking in their own waste, they were drinking it too. If a person is drinking human waste then they are bound to end up with diseases. Elizabethan Illnesses Bubonic Plague, dysentery and typhoid. (Alchin, L.K., Elizabethan Era) That is only a couple of the main diseases that went around throughout that area. Also it didn t help that they had little knowledge to help get rid out these disease. They barely knew how to get rid the common cold not a plague. Elizabethan Medicine ... • 9. Somnambulism And What Is Transpiring In The Brain Somnambulism or sleepwalking is a major reason many people wake up with unexplainable bruises or are wearing an outfit they don t remember putting on. Sleepwalking falls under the wide umbrella of sleep disorders called parasomnias, or anything that can go amiss during sleep. Although the category is similar, somnambulism differs from night terrors. Sufferers are not in fact acting out their dreams but simply moving due to confusion in the central nervous system (Guilleminault, 2006). Many facets go into explaining what sleepwalking actually is and what is transpiring in the brain. General knowledge about somnambulism is important due to the reality that so many Americans are affected. Knowledge of this topic should begin with the causes of this sleep disorder, where and when it occurs, what happens during an episode, the many things that can go wrong, and what to look for to see if you or someone you know could suffer from sleepwalking. • 10. Mike Rugg s Research Bias Research bias has been the cause for many research projects to have misleading or correct information. Research bias occurs when the author researches only for articles or writing material that corresponds to his own ideas. This causes the author to ignore potential writing materials that may have had an important role in his research. It also causes him to expect results that match with his mindset and not see other viewpoints. All researchers should avoid research bias by using different methods and ideas to receive a better result. As you are doing research, it is better to be unbiased because of the accurate results it will give you. In the Bigfoot video, Mike Rugg is a biased researcher because of how he only searches for evidence that proves his perspective and decision over Bigfoot. For example, in the video he explains how the tooth and other evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it does not completely prove Bigfoot is real because the evidence is not official and proven. Mike Rugg s research bias began to occur when he first saw bigfoot as a young child and later when he created the Bigfoot museum at the end of his career. If Mike Rugg was not a bigfoot supporter and did not have experience, he would be considered an unbiased researcher. Furthermore, it would have caused him to be able to accept evidence that proved Bigfoot was not real and have more official evidence to support his research. To avoid research bias, it is better to not put any of your own ideas, perspectives, culture, and thoughts into your research. The use of any of these emotions will cause your research to be biased like Mike Rugg s research in Bigfoot. Wiesel uses a Rhetorical Question to demonstrate that dehumanization causes people to not care whether they live or die. For example Eliezer states that it would not matter when he died: Here or else where what difference did it make? To die today or tomorrow, or later? The night was long and never ending (Wiesel 72). This quotation demonstrates that it did not matter when he died because he knew it was going to happen and Eliezer was careless. • 12. Dance Reflection Obviously, the goal for the team every year is to win, but we also like to have fun. Natalie Meloche elaborates on how she feels about spending countless hours at the studio perfecting her routines, Going to dance class is my favorite part of my day because I can always escape whatever is going on in my life and just let loose and dance. I also love to see my friends and teachers as well. In fact, three of the four girls I got answers from said they enjoyed going to class while the fourth had mixed feeling about it. Although for the majority of the girls, being in class was their favorite part. My favorite part was all of the team bonding that we did. Outside of the practice rooms, the team went to the movies together, painted pottery, played laser tag, and took trips to the cider mill. Every year, the older girls on the team are paired with one of the younger girls as a mentor. The goal as a big buddy is to show your little buddy that dance was not just about how well you place at awards, that dance is about expressing yourself in a way that builds your confidence and helps you realize that hard work pays off. You just have to be willing to take the comments given to you. Claire Binguit recalled the moment when a critique changed her outlook on everything: the most memorable feedback I ve ever gotten was from ms carol saying if you weren t so lazy you could be great step it up I know you have the potential and I believe in you . Aleah Soliman, a member of the teen team, recalls a recent time when a teacher s comment boosted her confidence, my teacher told me how good my solo looked after just a couple weeks doing it . From my experience in my own solo and my many many years of listening to comments from judges and teachers, I have learned that although some comments can be extremely hard to hear, they are meant to make you better and will help you in the long run. Everyone at the studio is actively applying their comments which results in better scores, which results in wins at competitions, which again is the main goal of being on the competitive team. • 13. Psychodynamic Theorists Selective Mutism in Adolescents As the makeup of students in classrooms change and general education teachers are educating a range of students with diverse needs, new learning barriers are becoming prominent in American classrooms. One of these learning disabilities that is emerging is a language disorder called selective mutism. Selective mutism is defined as a language disorder in which individuals who exhibit normal language skills with no delays in daily home situations are unwilling or unable to speak when confronted with novel situations or people. This disorder, when presented in classrooms, can affect both the social and the academic progress of the student. When considering students who exhibit symptoms of selective mutism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychodynamic theorists believe that selective mutism is a choice made by the child to have power over a certain part of their life. This could be a way for the child to assert control in response to a fight with a parent. These theorists believe that children with selective mutism chose not to speak in public to maintain their power, despite having the ability to speak. Researches emphasize the idea that children often continue this relationship with new individuals who can remove this power, such as a new teacher. Differing from psychodynamic theorists, behaviorists believe that children have been taught to use silence to help control the anxiety that they might feel. For example, if a child is uncomfortable in a certain situation, chooses not to speak, and has reduced anxiety, they have learned that silence is an effective tool (Busse Downey, 2011). . Selective mutism was first diagnosed by Adolf Kussmaul in the 1800s. The named it aphasia voluntaria to emphasize the idea that individuals made a voluntary decision to maintain silence (Busse Downey, 2011). In time, this original name became elective mutism . This new name reflected that the individual chose the environment in which they would speak. Once again, the name of the disorder was changed to become selective mutism . No Starting after the termination of the Seven Year s war, by the Peace of Paris, England repeatedly violated the American Colonists rights. A series of events, happening between 1763(ending of the Seven Years war) and 1775 (starting of the revolution), could be taken as motives for the American s revolution. The Americans claimed that through both, the Sugar Act (1764) and the Stamp Act (1765), the British dishonored their rights to taxation. The Townshend Acts also infuriated the Americans, and as in all other circumstances, they were willing to fight for their rights. The final justification for the ... This created more unity among the colonies, which added to the Acts, were one more justification for their rebellion. The Coercive Acts, passed in 1774, were the biggest justification for the revolution. They were known as the Intolerable Acts. The Acts closed the port of Boston, restructured the Massachusetts government, allowed British officials to be tried in court in either Canada or Europe, and allowed troops to be quartered wherever needed. The Americans felt that all these were violations of their rights and that they had been forced to obey laws that violated their rights. All the above decribed Acts and laws, were a justification for the revolution. However, they are not valid causes for the rebellion. Considering that the main justification for the revolution was the passing of the Coercive Acts, these Acts, were only passed because of the Boston Tea party. The Americans might have said that they were full of all the taxes, and that Englang went too far with the Tea Act. However Most of the taxes the Americans paid, were much lower than the taxes the Britsh paid over the same goods. Ultimately, the colonists were justified in their rebellion against England. The era from about 500 to 1000 C.E. is sometimes referred to as the Dark Ages in European history, partly because many aspects of the Roman civilization were lost, such as written language, advanced architectural and building techniques, complex government, and access to long distance trade. For the most part, these early people of Europe could not read or write, and lived much as their nomadic ancestors had. In their isolation, they slowly cleared the forested areas for farming, but their greatest need was for protection. However, the need for protection grew to be most important when the Vikings from Scandinavia invaded many areas of Europe in the 8th and 9th centuries, followed by the Magyars, who came from the east in the late 9th century. In response, Europeans established feudalism as a way to unite and protect them. European feudal institutions revolved around political and military relationships. The feudal political order developed into a complicated network of lord vassal relationships, with lords having overlords, and overlords owing allegiance to kings. On these foundations early kingdoms, such as England and France, were built, but in other areas, such as modern day Germany, the feudal organization remained highly decentralized. • 16. A Study On Mcnabs Island Over the past 4 months, I have been extensively studying McNabs Island. From studying elevation, slope, landscape materials, coastal processes, hydrology, climate patterns, slope aspect, as well as vegetation I was able to create a synthesis map of the ideal areas where an environmental education center could possibly be placed on the island without harming the island natural environment and processes. This report includes an analysis of the island, a constraints and opportunities summary, as well as inventory maps, analysis maps, and the final synthesis map. McNabs Island is located south east of Halifax, Nova Scotia within the Halifax harbour. McNabs is surrounded by the Halifax Peninsula and has Lawlor island near its south eastern side. In the past McNabs Island was used by the military as a location for forts such as that of Fort Ives as well as an area for fish processing because of its coastal beaches (Manuel Thompson, 2016). It was also used as an area to live on, particularly by the McNabs family (Manuel Thompson, 2016). In the early 1900 s the Davis family located their soft and alcoholic drink processing facility on the island. McNabs Island has a surface area of 460ha. The elevations on McNabs Island range from 0m to 40m in height. Predominately the areas of higher elevation are where the drumlin hills are located while the lower areas lie between drumlins and around the coastline. McNabs Island has 4 major drumlins (Manuel Thompson, 2016). Because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether it be the idea that violent video games instill aggression in its players, or that exposure to rap music inspires drug use, fear of media s influence has plagued modern society as new technological advancements inundate Americans lives overwhelmingly often. This fear, however, is not limited to the current age of smartphones and virtual reality headsets. When moving pictures first appeared in nickelodeon theaters across the country in the early twentieth century, it was met with similar reactions. Instead of leaving their homes and families to fight they are fighting for their homes and families, and they show the resolution and sagacity which a personal purpose gives. The Emancipation Proclamation made the blacks realize that the war for the Union must become a war for freedom. What strategy did Coca Cola start to pursue in 2000? What were the benefits of this strategy to Coca Cola? What were the drawbacks? The company extended this strategy to include foreign bottlers. By taking equity stakes in the bottlers, Coca Cola was able to exert greater control over them. Coca Cola made the shift to the global standardization strategy because it believed that by doing so, the company could gain significant economies of scale. Film noir translates to dark film and Sunset Blvd. and Double Indemnity fit that both physically and thematically. The use of black and white film blurs the lines between good and evil. Without the use of color to easily distinguish the villains from the heroes, we are unsure of who we can and cannot trust. The lack of color allows the viewer to focus on content and forces them to concentrate on what is on screen. It is easier to make color look good on film, as it requires less work. Therefore, due to Spenser s high influence in literary society, Shakespeare also writes many sonnets with an underlying theme of nature. In Shakespeare s Since brass, nor stone, nor boundless sea frequent use of nature and its aspects depict love in the poem. Shakespeare depicts love as a fragile item. It is also tempting because of the opportunity to be able to experience many things that probably would not be possible in the real world for the common person (like me). If you have to look at those scratches in the living room floor, the foot traffic stains down the hallway, the Kool aid stains under the dining room table, or the chipped tile in the kitchen one more time, you might go off the edge and wind up in the looney bin. You are tired of going to a friend s home and secretly envying their perfect looking floors. Gone are the days of flipping through magazines and drooling over the pictures of nicely decorated rooms with flooring that looks amazing. Labor per square foot is the given rate per square foot of floor area. Initial Preparatory Work involves all actions required to be completed before the contractor can begin working on the floor. There are three parts to this section. Initially, all the furniture and fixtures (toilet, sinks not attached to walls) need to be removed. Depending on the quantity/size of furniture/fixtures that need to be removed, contractors will typically charge between $15 and $50 per hour. Customers can cut out this cost if they agree to have the items removed prior to the contractor arriving. However, if it is agreed upon and the items are not removed, the contractor will usually charge 150% of the normal rate, because this will add additional time to the job, causing him to possibly run behind schedule for another job, and he schedules jobs based on time estimates. The next part is the removal and disposal of the existing floor. The price for this can range from $25 to $75 per hour, based on the type of flooring being removed. Carpet and vinyl are easy to remove, thus would be on the low end. Tile is more difficult because mortar is used to install it and all of that has to be broken up and removed. Again, the customer can save during this phase if they do the removal themselves, with the same penalty if not removed prior to the contractor arrival. The final part of this phase is repairing the subfloor. Costs for this repair vary greatly on what needs to be repaired, and are usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through Piaget s Congnitive development theory we are shown the stages of a child s brain development with a strong focus on the ages newborn 11 years onwards. Bronfenbrenner began his studies in 1870 on the effects of neighbourhood on the development of children s concepts. He is a well known chid developmental psychologist and is most commonly known for his theory on ecological systems and how that effects a child development. Bronfenbrenner argued that in order to understand human development, one must consider the entire ecological system in which growth occurs (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). The system is inclusive of 5 influencing factors from the environment which he believes to have an impact on child development such as, school and family, values but he also intertwines his theory with culture and cultural beliefs by using the macrosystem which is the patterns of culture. He believe that while all these environmental factors had an effect on child development, culture was/is a huge part in a childs upbringing which then plays a part on their development. Much of developmental psychology is the science of the strange behaviour of children in strange situations with strange adults (Bronfenbrenner 2009). The knowledge question, how does knowledge develop over time? will be explored within the context of history and the natural sciences. Thus the theories that have persisted in a particular subject are the most accurate ones, supported by plentiful evidence. Despite the evidence of evolution, many people belonging to strict religious faiths do not accept it as part of their scientific knowledge. They primarily rely upon their faith, even in a subject largely dominated by reason. Therefore, any evidence presented will be filtered through a colored lens. This results in confirmation bias, the tendency to accept only evidence that supports one s presumptions. Thus the validity of certain pieces of evidence may conflict with the knower s own perspective which must be taken into account to attain a full picture of that discipline. My own faith led me to approach evolution from a narrow minded point of view until recently. When I began to search for true knowledge I came to an understanding about the nature of evolution. I am currently exploring the idea that faith and reason do not have to conflict. Both ways of knowing give a more complete understanding of the universe. So although a specific way of knowing may support a certain theory, other ways can contrast with the knowledge presented. This adds an essential condition to the thesis, that the validity of the evidence is determined based on acceptance by a vast majority of the community within that field. It is not necessary for everyone to agree with an idea, only the greater part of the community of individuals knowledgeable in the field. Additionally, reasons for certain historical events are ... The Army is prone to this in part because it does not distinguish between leadership and management in doctrine or practice. There has been an ongoing debate in Military review as to the relationship between command, leadership and management. In the Army, leadership and management merge into one concept. As leadership is doctrinally conceptualized in managerial terms, it limits the scope of personal power. It is difficult, if not impossible, to conduct management functions that stretch outside the bounds of a given authority. Management is important and necessary; however, leadership initiates effective and lasting change in our Soldiers. The Army s definition of leadership is the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation (ADP 6 22, 2012).
