The Utalitarian Approach to Moral Obligation
Wand(1979) expounds on Hume ethical theory in relation to moral obligation is a theory of good and
evil rather than one of duty and obligation , according to Wand (1956:55): this statement is quite
erroneous for Hume does not merely wish to discover the foundation of our moral actions . Hume
account of how motives prompt men to moral actions is quite complex, but Wand (1979) also asserts
that Hume distinguishes between two basic type of action to make it more understandable. The first
type are those action which men will perform without the aid or influence of reason or custom; the
second are those action which it can be expected men will normally perform with the aid or influence
of reason or custom.
Hume distinguishes these two types of action in terms of the specifically moral nature of their motive,
whether or not the action is done from a sense of duty; thus for Hume, there are four classes of action:
The first, are those actions prompted by the natural or moral motives; The second are those actions
prompted by artificial, non moral motive; third; those actions promoted by artificial moral motives. In
consideration of his account of moral motivation; Hume s ultimate intention is to show that it cannot
be a natural duty to carry out certain types of obligation such as being just or keeping promises. Hume
thinks that the actions envisaged cannot constitute duty; it would never be a duty unless human nature
possesses some rational inclination prompting individuals to

What Are John F Kennedy s Major Accomplishments
John F. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. He sadly died at the very
young age of 46 on November 22, 1963. Growing up, his family was fairly wealthy as his father dealt
with the stock market and economics. After John F. Kennedy grew up, he joined they navy and was a
gunboat pilot in World War II. He received battle wounds during the war and after his deployment he
was awarded with a purple heart.
John F. Kennedy was the second child of Joseph Kennedy Jr. and Rose Kennedy. He was one of nine
children including Joe, Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, Patricia, Robert, Jean and Teddy. On September
12, 1953, he married Jacqueline Bouvier and seven years later, he found himself in the presidential
election of 1960. During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kennedy had many accomplishments during his short presidency. One of these accomplishments was
in regards to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He played a lead role in figuring out how to settle this with the
Soviet Union. He also abolished the federal death penalty in 1962. He initiated Project Apollo which
ended up accomplishing landing the first humans on the moon between 1969 1972!
Lastly, he played a large part in stopping racism and segregation. He showed a lot of love and sincerity
with this and the American people appreciated and admired him for that. He highly disagreed with
segregation and focused on civil rights towards the end of his election. On June 11th, 1963, he
delivered a televised speech stating his beliefs and presented a proposal for a new bill to be passed.
This bill would later be called the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
On November 22nd, 1963, President Kennedy had traveled to Dallas, Texas to participate in a
motorcade that was traveling to Dealy Plaza. He was sitting with his wife, Jacqueline on the back of a
convertible followed by his Vice President, Lyndon Johnson behind him. While he passed the Texas
School Book Depository, Lee Harvey Oswald set up a sniper post on the 6th story of the building.
Oswald allegedly fired three shots at Kennedy, one missing him and two striking him in the neck and
head. Sadly, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy passed away from his gunshot wounds and his Vice
President, Lyndon Johnson was sworn into office right away.

63cu Research Paper
The main components that make up copper are protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons are positively
charged, electrons are negatively charged, and neutrons don t have a charge. The nucleus is at the
center of the atom, and it contains protons and neutrons. Electrons are stored in energy levels. Since
protons have a +1 charge and neutrons don t have a charge, the nucleus is positively charged. The two
stable copper isotopes that should be describe are 63Cu and 65Cu. The composition of 63Cu is 0.6915
(15); the composition of 65Cu is 0.3085 (15) ( Isotopes of Copper. Wikipedia). The abundance of
63Cu is 69.17% (2); the abundance of 65Cu is 30.83% (2) ( Copper Isotopes Cu Isotopes). The
nucleus of any copper atom has 29 protons and electrons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are 29 electrons in the copper atom. There are 29 electrons in copper because copper has to stay
neutral, which means that there are also 29 protons. So, since electrons have a negative charge, and
protons have a positive charge, 29 negative plus 29 positive equals no charge/neutral. The electron
configuration in symbols can be translated by: the first number is the shell number, the letter is the
subshell, and the to the power of, or superscript, is the number of electrons that are present in the
subshell. In the s subshell, there is 1 orbital, in the p subshell there are 3 orbitals, and in d subshells,
there are 5 orbitals ( Electron Shell. Wikipedia). Each orbital can hold a maximum of two electrons.
So, the s subshell can hold 2 electrons, the p subshell can hold 6 electrons, and the d subshell can hold
10 electrons. Since there are 29 electrons in copper, all of the orbitals in the subshells will be filled,
except there will be one extra s subshell if you use 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s1. The fourth shell is
the highest shell that contains electrons in copper. So, if you were to add up 4s + 4p + 4d + 4f, it
would equal 32 electrons ( Electron Shell.

The Curious Case of Dax Cowart Essay example
The concept of autonomy in the medical practice brings many different views. Autonomy is the ability
individuals have to be self governing. In these different views there exist two schools of thought, one
is the belief that people are born with the ability to do what they want their body and no organization
can tell them what to do with their body, like the government. On the other hand, some people believe
that it is more complicated and conditional on mental competency so that person can make rational
decisions. However, the majority of people seem to advocate for autonomy. A particular largely
uncontroversial discussion arises with the case of Dax Cowart, who had his right to autonomy taken
from him in a tragic accident and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We came to this decision because we felt that if a few professional psychiatrist can render him
mentally competent than he should be allowed to make his own decisions because it is moral. This is
moral because people should be allowed to do what they want with their body, and as Cowart says it
is, the right to control your own body is a right you re born with... (Cowart 2). However, this is refuted
when that person cannot make rational decisions because that person would be mentally incompetent.
People that are mentally incompetent are incapable of making decisions that are in their best interest.
We also discussed his mother and how all she cared about is for him to receive treatment which we
thought was a bit selfish. This is a typical parental perspective considering that parents do not want to
outlive their children. However, she should have sought out what was best for him and what he was
going to be happy with and not her. As a group we also felt that he should have received better pain
treatment especially since Cowart found out later that they could have done more for his treatment. If
someone is in as much pain as he was and when a doctor is confronted with the request to die, that
doctor should be doing everything he or she can to bring down the pain. My decision was that he
should not receive the treatment because no matter how you look at it you cannot argue with
autonomy as long as that person is competent. However, I

Keeping Memos For The State Of Texas
Although it can be hard at times, it is very important to read and keep memos given to you by
employers. Company s update their policies from time to time and you have to abide by the changes.
When I worked for the state of Texas we would receive multiple emails regarding policy changes and
or updates. I had to abide by the changes.
Privacy Rights Clearinghouse went over computer and workstation monitoring, email monitoring,
telephone monitoring, mobile device monitoring, audio and video monitoring, GPS tracking, postal
mail and social media monitoring. Employers are able to see what is on your screen, how much time
you spend away from your computer and how many keystrokes per hour each employer does.
Employers are able to discretely monitor employees with certain computer equipment. Employees
may not know they are being monitored. Employers can review email content. Even though the
message may have an option for marking an email as private, the company may still have access to the
email. You should assume that your work emails are not private. Even though you may delete your
emails, the company still has access to them also.
Employers have the ability to monitor and listen to your phone calls you have with your clients and
customers and they can obtain a record of the phone calls you make. If you wear a headset, your
conversations with your coworkers could be monitored. Employers could have apps on your mobile
device that monitors your text messages, email, location, web

Creating Homogeneous Ability Grouping
Background
Research into ability grouping has raised questions about the process of creating homogeneous ability
groups. Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for
their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs
and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band
contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process
in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process
teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the
recommendations of teachers and counselors. The benefit of homogeneous ability grouping is the
opportunity to provide students with differentiated instruction based on their ability level. The result
of heterogeneous ability groups created through the grouping process is one of many concerns. ...

Students in the low band can suffer self esteem issues, as well as negative impacts on their attitude and
motivation (Suknandan Lee as cited in Smith Sutherland, 2006). The negative impacts are greatly felt
by schools in low socioeconomic areas. These schools had higher enrolment numbers, with a larger
portion of minority students and a greater range of abilities (Nomi, 2009). The negative impacts on
students in the low band are likely to be due to the label placed on them. Lanzo (2011) conducted a
comparison research and discovered at risk students benefitted from being in heterogeneous ability
groups rather than homogeneous ability

Who Is Kubbo A Hero
Have you ever been inspired by a hero? Well I have, I will be comparing Kubo, directed by Travis
Knight, and The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book and movie were pretty similar according
to a Heroic Journey. They both had multiple obstacles that they had to overcome and somehow get
through. Bilbo and Kubo were strong heroes because they did things without being asked, they were
caring, and determined to succeed.
A hero in my eyes is someone who helps others without being asked. For example opening a door for
someone if they are carrying multiple things. The hero feels caring for others is valuable. For example
when someone is sick you take care of them. They are determined to achieve and be successful. For

Bilbo fulfilled this requirement when he found the key hole for the cave by himself. Everyone was
using the last sunlight to try to find the key hole and they couldn t find it. They all started leaving
thinking they lost their chance to open the cave. Well Bilbo stayed there trying to figure things out.
The key! Shouted Bilbo. The key that went with the map! Try it now while there is still time! (Tolkien
210) The bright moon started to come out and he spotted the key hole for the cave, so he called
everyone up and finally got into the cave. In order to find the key hole it had to be the last light and
they all thought it meant the last sunlight, but it was the last light of the day which was the moon.
Additionally, Kubo fulfills this requirement as well, because he fought his grandfather to save his
village and it s people. Kubo got his eye stolen by his grandfather when he was very little. His
grandfather wanted the other eye as well until Kubo found all the armour to defend himself from his
grandfather. Kubo s grandfather hurt a lot of people including Kubo and his village. He eventually
fought off his grandfather using the armour, which saved the village and himself. Clearly Bilbo and
Kubo both helped many people without being asked either by get into a cave or saving a

Your significant other, what majority of our ancestors were looking for. Some may have found
everlasting love, until one of them died. And some may never have had the privilege of finding them,

monochrome, white, black, and gray. No colors, no lividity. Until the person meets their significant

Esperanza s Dream House
The place where a person lives often provides insight into their life. As implied by the title of the
novel The House on Mango Street, the novel placed a strong focus on the places where people lived
and how they related to the people themselves. Two characters houses stand out in this novel in
particular: the houses belonging to Esperanza and Sally. Through the description of the appearance of
the two houses and how each person feels while inside their house, Cisneros created a striking contrast
between the two houses.
One of the most prominent places mentioned in the novel is Esperanza s dream house. Although

and lastly Julius Campbell the black leader of the athletics teams. Throughout this movie there is a lot

The relationship between the two coaches become one of the main reasons why the two teams become
closer and form relationships. There are two school one being Alexandria and the other T.C Williams

arise when different races are forced to play in a team together, but they are taken to a camp for two
weeks where most of these problems are solved and the conflict between many team mates are
communicated and also solved. The Titans play side by side together as a team and have a

The Voluntary Redundancy Package Has Left The Two With $...
Tim and Tom are interested in inquiring about the possibilities of doing a small business together, a
retail shop in this case. The voluntary redundancy package has left the two with $180,000 and $120,
000 respectively. Tim has minimal savings while Tom has $80,000 in bank account, while they require
$500,000 for the initial setup. In order to reach a solution, a thorough exploration of all the
possibilities is required, gaging every aspect and driving a particular solution. Is Sole Proprietorship
an option? The type of business structure suitable for Tim and Tom depends upon the nature of the
business relationship they want to hold. If Tim and Tom want to work together as business equals then
sole proprietorship is not an option, unless in the case of one owning the firm and hiring the other. In
this case however, the person owning the firm would generally be the one subject to business laws.
From a legal perspective the owner and the firm are a not separate, the owner is unlimitedly liable for
the obligations of the firm. This implies that personal assets are exposed to the risk of business
liability. However, initial set up costs are minimal including; registering a business name, if don t want
to do business with own name, and an ABN (Australian Business Number). If business operations are
carried out without a registered name then it is an offence of strict liability. If Tim and Tom decide to

Psychology of Personality

A. M. Barnett

Abstract
Carl Gustav Jung was bone July 26, 1875 (Feist and Feist, 2002). He was blessed to be surrounded by
an educated family, including clergymen. Carl Jung as a young man was a colleague of Freud. His life
s work was exploring the unconscious. Freud s theory of the unconscious made the unconscious sound
unpleasant. It involved crazy desires, incestuous cravings, and frightening experiences that would
come back to haunt a person. Based on Freud s theory, one would understandably be terrified of
making the unconscious conscious. Jung, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jung observed psychotic patients as they were confronted with the task of responding to a list of 50
words. He compared their delusional ideas to myths trying to understand them. Shortly after, he left
the hospital position, and broke away from Freud. He began to analyze his own dreams and fantasies
in order to further confirm this hypothetical other layer of the unconscious. He began to focus on
broader collective elements he called archetypes. Jung believed that archetypes had a regulatory
function beyond the sexual drive. His primary treatment for his patients involved treatment of their
unconscious. Jung believed that the archetypal images were the principal structural elements of the
unconscious that was express in myths and other collective narratives. His major therapeutic technique
was drawing parallels between the archetypal images and his patients dreams and fantasies. Delving
into psychology more in depth initiated speculations by Freud and Jung and left the specific synaptic
and neural materialization of unconscious processes to be inferred. In an attempt to avoid the problem
of dualistic thinking and of treating the mind as separate from the body without relying on known
data, Jung s speculation about unconscious archetypes united drives and spirit, matter and psyche,
reached for solutions tying human behavior to genetic predispositions. (Ekstrom, 2004) Jung believed

W. Jacobs The Monkey s Paw
I need a creative title!
Well, don t break into the money before I get back. (Jacobs, 5) In the short story The Monkey s Paw
by W.W. Jacobs, Herbert White says this, because his parents got greedy and wished for money to pay
for their house using a magical monkey s paw. Their son was then killed in a machinery accident, so
they were given money for his death on that company s property. They lost their son to a tragic death,
all because they got greedy for some money. That is why people should be thankful for what they have
is an ideal that has been lost in society.
First,
People always want what the do not have. For instance, in the story the family uses their first wish to
wish for more money so they can pay for their house. They receive their money, but it is due to the
fact that their son died in a machinery accident. This perfectly happy family was now quiet and sad,
but they got the money that they wanted. They were given the exact amount of money that they
wanted, but their grief was unimaginable. The worst part, they caused their son s death, it was their
fault. This drove Mrs. White mad, she wanted more than anything to get her son back.

John Locke And The Declaration Of The Rights Of Man
To enlighten is to give intellectual or spiritual light to someone. The Enlightenment period in Europe
in the 17th and 18th centuries was an intellectual movement that inspired thought, question, and
reason in people across the continent. It was the age of new ideals that forever altered the course of
our world today and will always be a time where tradition was no longer the primary way in which
people led their lives. Several Enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire, Rousseau, and Hobbes have
influenced multiple government systems to reform their ways by inspiring revolution. Natural Rights
creates a democratic republic government where supreme power rests with the people and allows them
to elect representatives to operate their country, therefore upsetting citizens since absolute monarchies
rule. Natural Rights spawns uprisings and revolution in countries because people believe it to be their
right to have shared power which is evident through multiple documents such as The English Bill of
Rights, U.S. Constitution, and The Declaration of the Rights of Man.
John Locke s idea of Natural Rights created a whole new aspect of how the government should be
constructed. Natural Rights is the freedoms people are born with and should be protected by the
government, if not then the citizens have the right to overthrow the government since their rights are
not being preserved. This Enlightenment ideal is an important aspect in both today s world and during
revolutionary periods

Nationalism And The Islamic State
Nationalism is the sense of an individual showing extreme loyalty to their country. It is homologous to
tribalism. Similar to a family it is held together by a sense of affinity. According to professor Liah
Greenfeld of Boston, nationalism is an image of social order which involves the people of a sovereign
elite and a community of equals. Nationalism includes individuals tied together by charismatic bonds
such as race, faith, language, economy, way of life, history, ideas, and location. ( Nationalism
Greenfeld) These people desire power and strength in which they feel strongly loyal too. In other
words they seek development of their nation. For instance, a group called ISIS, also known as The
Islamic State deeply follows the Muslim Faith. They are willing to fight to the death for their beliefs
on how society should be organized and live. Also, World War One and World War Two are great
examples of a historical nationalistic era. People from every country stood their ground and battled
until they had nothing left. They risked their lives for their countries which showed true nationalism.
Events like these lead to tragic endings which included death, loss in food, clothing, lower economy,
political issues, and disputes within countries. Despite what one may assume the root causes of
international conflicts are, nationalist ideas are in fact the origin to this dissension because many
countries are loyal to their beliefs, ensure the stability of their nation, and are set on

The Udhr And The Different World Viewpoints On Human...
The UDHR and the Different World Viewpoints on Human Rights
Accepted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights (UDHR) is comprised of a preamble and thirty articles. Each article delineates a specific right
that every human, either from the sake of being human and/or being part of the collective of humanity,
is forever entitled to. On the flip side, the preamble is comprised of seven clauses that taken together
accommodate the historical evolution, context, and reasoning behind the document s inscription.
Finally, at the end of the preamble is the declaration s proclamation, whose inclusion solidifies the
documents global significance. Given the historical time period that the UDHR was conceived in, its
thirty rights are quite an astonishing list. However, in today s times, the UDHR does not mention a
series of rights that the international community has, in some places more than others, started to
accept since 1948. In general, this trend can be easily noticed in how the declaration phrases rights
pertaining to the different sexes and/or genders. In not one of the thirty articles, do the words sexual
orientation or abortion appear, nor is there any mention that humans have the right to be gay, queer,
bisexual etc. At least in the United States, it has become more and more accepted that human beings
have the right to whatever sexual orientation that they innately possess. Therefore, they are allowed to
marry whoever they

Comparing Luhrmann s Romeo And Juliet
First of all, where does carnivalesque come from? This concept was coined by Mikhail Bakhtin who
said it embodied life taking from of a typical carnival. The way things are obscured, or not how they
typically would be, essentially life turned inside out is the idea of carnivalism. Without carnival, life
remains as usual and therefore it is impossible to point out the obscure nature of what is natural life
(Johae, Bakhtinian Carnivalesque 304). Luhrmann had used many carnival elements to represent
Romeo and Juliet in his film version, offering a counterproposition where, in the inebriation of
festivity, societal roles are inverted and where masks and disguises, as the words indicate, hide
identities, including sexual identities, rather than exposing them (Johae, Bakhtinian Carnivalesque
307). By using this, Luhrmann created a new perspective on the love of Romeo and Juliet, calling into
question the validity of their love, or even the carnival brought about through their meeting.
Carnivalism is effective for Romeo and Juliet because it allows for further analysis to take place of
meaning and emotion in situations, [provoking] an active response, leading us to make certain
connections perhaps hitherto unexplored... creating a highly energetic, primarily ... Show more content

What this means is that individuals are changed from what is typical of them as is expected by society
(Hennelly, 103) which happens repeatedly at the party scene in the film. Juliet s angel appearance at
the party shows contrast to her daily life, where she is unable to enjoy any such freedom... Similarly,
Romeo, who up to this point shows himself as a sort of delinquent by taking drugs, as well as taking
part in the jokes and behaviors associated with the Montagues, is given the opportunity to take on an
ideal role as a courtly knight (Johae, Bakhtinian Carnivalesque

The Four Mythical Elements Of Whale Rider
Many voyages that heroin s encounter are regularly identified with the four mythical functions. In the
film, Whale Rider, through mythical creation powers, the hero endeavors to save her dying culture.
The creation myths power permits the courageous woman, Pai, to find her actual calling as a real
leader of the Maori tribe. By utilizing the myths, she dynamically finds her legend s adventure by
breaking down the images throughout her life. According to Campbell as discussed in Indick article,
this model The Monomyth has different functions as he clarifies the sociological, mysterious,
cosmological, and mental elements of myth (pg, 2). Campbell depicts the vital capacities including
myths as legendary or traditional story, typically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the kid who might be the chief (Whale). Paikea turns out to be strongly fascinated on this legend
because of the way that she is the latest of the bloodline descendant, which implies she is prepared to
make every one of the basic decisions of being a chief other than the reality of being female. The
youthful heroic girl refers to the legend when contrasting with herself as an approach to empower her
rising as the current bloodline descendant. She keeps on participating in the myth all through the
movie with a specific end goal to express her enthusiasm for her way of life (William, 3).
Similarly, William in page three explains that Campbell clarifies cosmological capacities as stories
enable the person to decide his/her place in the universe. The stellar capacity applies for the Whale
Rider because of the principle character growing up being recounted of their legend of how the Maori
tribe traveled to the territory they are acclimated to now. Pai characterizes herself alongside her family
history; she expresses a long time ago, my ancestor Paikea came to this place on the back of a whale.
Since then, in every generation of my family, the firstborn son has carried his name and become the
leader of our tribe... until now, (Whale). She continually alludes back to the legend of her predecessor,
Paikea, as a path for her to get the idea she is fit to do likewise. Like her predecessor, Paikea could
spare the way of life which is the thing that Pai is

How is suspense created and maintained in The Monkey s Paw...
In The Monkey s Paw written by W.W. Jacobs and The Red Room written by H.G. Wells, there are
many similarities and differences in the ways the stories are written and suspense created. For
example, both stories belong to the horror genre where the supernatural appears due to human
interferences, and both have a fast and frantic climax where the characters lives are put in jeopardy.
However they do differ in places, one of the key differences being that The Monkey s Paw is written
in third person whereas The Red Room is a narrative.
W.W Jacobs uses many different techniques in The Monkey s Paw to build up an atmosphere of
suspense and uneasiness. One way this is done is by Jacob s description of the White family s
location, a bleak, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jacobs uses his characters even further to build up suspense by describing their physical reaction as
well as their dialogue. Mr White s brow cold with sweat shows us how his fear has lead him to the
point of sweating proving that he is afraid of the wish he just made. This also convinces the reader that
the paw holds forces not to be reckoned with and that if Herbert did come back it would be a horrific
rather than cheerful moment. Also Mr White caught his breath when ordered to find the paw, showing
that he was scared and dreaded the moment when he would have to wish for his son back as he knew
it would lead to doom. This realisation of the potential hazards they would face if Herbert were
brought back creates fear and suspense. The description of the character s physical actions is very
useful, as it depicts the emotions and thoughts of a character to an extent that dialogue cannot.
The contrast of light and darkness within the story is used alongside the characters to create suspense.
At the beginning of the story, it was dark, which gave the reader an ominous impression. For example
Mr White was going down the stairs to make a wish to bring Herbert back while it was so dark, he had
to feel his way around. The darkness generates fear, as it is hard to be sure what is lurking around the
corner, and what you might bump in to. Jacobs then contrasts this with the light of the next morning,
which provides a break from the suspense. However it

Grapes Of Wrath Allusions
In his novel Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck integrated many biblical references and values
throughout the book. This provided a more intriguing and complex style of writing that he used to tell
about the Dust Bowl of the early 1900 s and the arduous journey the Joad family and many others took
to reach California. The first biblical reference is revealed when the Joad family leaves for California.
the rest swarmed up on top of the load, Connie and Rose of Sharon, Pa and Uncle John, Ruthie and

Another biblical reference is shown when the Joad s move to California. Their journey to California
from Oklahoma is a biblical reference due to the similarity to the exodus of the Jews to Israel from
Egypt. This is distinguished by the similarities between the Joad s and the Jews, the Joad s were
captives of their farm while the Jews were captives of Egypt. Throughout their journey, Ma becomes a
Moses like figure but leading the family through hard times and tries to keep the family together. She
kept the family moving towards California even though Grandma was dead in her lap. California was
the promised land for the Joad s and other Okies and Ma led the family there. California brings about
another biblical allusion. As part of Moses bringing his people out of Egypt, he told of a promised
land to where he would take the Israelites, and that land was Canaan. For the Joad s and many other
migrants, California was the promised land they were searching for. Apart from both of the promised
lands beginning with the letter C, they had many things in common. The vineyards, the orchards, the
great flat valley, green and beautiful...the peach trees and the walnut groves, and the dark green
patches of oranges (Steinbeck 227). This is an allusion to the promised land of the Jews, where in
Numbers 13:27 it states We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and
honey! Here is its fruit (Zondervan 207). Both lands were bursting with

The Sitcom Of Television By William Asher s Bewitched ...
Situation comedies, or sitcoms for short, first began between 1946 and 1947 in the United Kingdom
when broadcast station BBC aired Pinwright s Progress (Aaron,2014). The United States soon
followed airing their first sitcom in 1950. William Asher has been credited with being the man who
invented the sitcom, having directed over two dozen of the leading sitcoms from the 1950s through the
1970s (Cook, 1999). Some of Asher s finest works include Bewitched and I Love Lucy , classics that
are still around today. Although situation comedies have been able to withstand time, even with new
evolving technology that allows a high focus on effects that have allowed science fiction shows to
thrive, they are far from where they began from William Asher s time.
Television has always portrayed the culture of the time and in the 1950s a very domestic picture was
painted. Family, marriage, and an obedient housewife were all a common factor in sitcoms during this
time. Contrary to popular belief, sitcoms in the 1950s rarely portrayed men as loving, doting,
patriarchs, but rather as distant providers of the family with stick and stern rules for both their children
and wife. (Anderson, 2012). Although television has changed rapidly since the 1950s I argue that the
representation of men in sitcoms have evolved very little over time. Using both sitcoms from the 1950
s and today I plan to prove that an emphasis on masculinity and male dominance have remained a
common underlying theme since

The Killings And Racial Repressions Of Adolf Hitler And...
The mass killings and racial repression brought on by the Nazi regime is abhorrent. The Nazi regime
singled out the Jewish community to reconcile the belief that Germany had been betrayed in World
War I. Once the Jewish community had been made the victim, the system of overlapping agencies
pushed institutions to the extreme as they competed for Hitler s attention. The effect of competing to
earn consideration created systemic brutality towards the Jewish people in Germany. From the
creation of concentration camps and into the concentration camps created a gray zone within where
prisoners competed for special treatment by displaying their harshness towards their own compatriots.
The Nazi system of racial repression and mass murder of the Jewish population in Germany originated
in Adolf Hitler s personal shortcomings as a failed artist and as a scapegoat for Germany s defeat in
World War. The system was operated by sycophants acting obsequiously to Hitler in hopes of raising
their standing with Hitler to further their career. The origins of Hitler s anti Semitism are widely
debated by historians. Common theories include: a self loathing for Hitler s own partial Jewish
identity, reaction from hysterical trauma suffered from mustard gas in World War I, sexual fantasies,
and a persecution complex. According to Ian Kershaw these theories offer ...differing degrees of
plausibility but ultimately amount to no more than guesswork. Kershaw argues that the only thing that
can be presumed about the foundations of Hitler s hatred is his low self esteem, his frustrations of
being a drop out, failed artist, and being an outsider of society. On top of this, Hitler was reading pan
German anti Semitic newspapers and admired deeply the Austrian anti Semite and pan German Leader
Georg von Schonerer and anti Semitic demagogue Karl Lueger, mayor of Vienna. All of this coupled
with Germany s defeat in World War I led Hitler to find a justification for the world, as he saw it,
falling apart. So, he turned to demonizing the Jewish community while working for the educational
unit in the German army. In this unit, Hitler found his talent for demagoguery. Hitler made a concerted

Women In A Rose For Emily And A Streetcar Named Desire
Every society has its own challenges and aspirations, but how these are handled makes a lot of
difference. (Akujobi) However, our society today and in the past have had the same challenge, which
is the suppressing of women by men. Anais Nin asked; How wrong is it for a woman to expect the
man to build the world she wants, rather than to create it herself? In today s life it is getting better
since women finally start having their own carrier instead of getting married with 20 while already
being pregnant. Augsburg s bishop Walter Mixa called women a few years ago baby producers , which
is a very outdated view of women and got ripped into pieces for that statement. This shows that even
though they are old fashioned people around the majority understands that women and men are equal
and women deserve to be happy, independent and successful. However, most women see building a

Challenges And Advantages And Disadvantages Of Matrix...
There are many types of structures that an organization might have, each of them comes with its own
set of advantages and disadvantages. Let us look at the benefits and drawbacks of three (or rather,
five) of the more modern structures. Matrix organizations One of the biggest challenges for employees
in a matrix organization is the fact that they have to report to multiple managers. With employees
directly reporting to two or more supervisors, these supervisors need to be highly coordinated with
one another to make sure that they re giving consistent orders. Otherwise, employees may be given
orders from different managers that are very difficult to follow in unison. Even worse, orders from
different managers can outright conflict. Employees can t follow these orders because they re mutually
exclusive. This causes ambiguity and confusion as to what the employee should do. This problem can
be avoided with high levels of communication and coordination between department managers and
project managers though. If these managers can stay on the same page, they can have a much clearer
picture of where to lead employees and they can put up a unified front. In that way, instructions from
either manager that a given employee reports to can give orders consistent with the orders given by the
other manager, and the employee will be able to follow the lead of both managers simultaneously.
There are clearly challenges in leading a matrix organization, as well as challenges in working

time, Jews were still offering sacrifices and viewing the presence of God as one visited in the
tabernacle on earth. The Hebrew author is stating here, beginning in verse 11, that Jesus priesthood
will not serve in the earthly tabernacle, but He will serve in the Heavenly tabernacle and enter into the
presence of God there. The author then explains the difference between the earthly and Heavenly
priesthood, and why the Heavenly priesthood is superior.

Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivor Essay
Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivor
As war broke out in Europe during 1939, no one could either imagine or believe the terror that Adolf
Hitler would soon bring to the lives of Jewish people. Drawing from his paranoia and a drive for a
world Nazi power, Hitler singled out the Jews as the cause for problems in Germany and began to
carry out his plan for the destruction of a part of humanity. Hitler not only persecuted the Jews of
Germany, but he also targeted the Jews in Poland and other parts of Europe, such as Transylvania,
which was the home of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel.
Breaking his self imposed vow of silence in 1958, Elie Wiesel published Night which details his
horrific experiences at the Auschwitz, Buna, and Buchenwald ... Show more content on

Moesh solemnly told Elie of what really went on in Galicia; after exiting the trains, the Jews were
forced to dig massive graves and then wait in line to be murdered. Even children were tossed into the
air as prey for the guards machine guns. Moesh had escaped only because he was injured and
presumed dead.
During the following days and nights, Moesh spread his story throughout the community in an effort
to warn his people of the impending terror, but no one believed him. Some said, He s just trying to
make us pity him. What an imagination he has. 2 Many people thought Moesh had just simply gone
mad, and even Wiesel denied the stories of his friend.
The Jews not only denied the warnings of Moesh, but also disbelieved that Hitler planned to
exterminate them. Wiesel summarized the general feeling of the community by stating, Could he
exterminate a population scattered throughout so many countries? So many millions! What methods
could he use? And in the middle of the twentieth century! 3 Other reports indicate that the Jews did
not believe that Hitler s attempted genocide was occurring. Newspaper articles about the murders were
shrugged off as panic inducers because killing such large numbers was incomprehensible; many
believed that the deportees were sent away to do agricultural work, but they would soon learn
otherwise.4
As Passover arrived in Wiesel neighborhood so did the Hungarian police, forcing Jews to turn over

Microscale Synthesis of Acetylsalicylic Acid
Synthesis of Aspirin
Ling Tecson Gamido, Mitchiko Mariel M. Mizukami
Abstract
Acetylsalicylic acid, or also known as aspirin is known to be a drug that relives people of pain and is
commonly used even today. It is synthesized from salicylic acid and ethanoic anhydride, both of small
quantities. Phosphoric acid was used as a catalyst in the synthesis to speed up the process.
Esterification is involved and the final product is aspirin with the presence of acetic acid as the
byproduct. In order to create the powder form of aspirin, the process of crystallization was conducted
and was run through vacuum filtration. After running through the help of an electronic instrument, the
result that was achieved in this experiment was met due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
With the presence of carboxylic acid (which is active in the reaction of the synthesis) in the results
done by an electronic instrument, it shows that the reaction went through the right direction.
The proper techniques needed in the synthesis of aspirin and the physical properties of aspirin are
determined and applied. The synthesis of aspirin by analysis of its melting point, IR and mass
spectrum are confirmed.
Recommendations
A recommendation would be a more accurate and safer way of transporting the reactants inside a test
tube. A small amount of salicylic acid was remaining on the walls of the test tube. Due to this, an
increased amount of acetic anhydride was used for the experiment. This could have affected the yield
of the final product. Through the vacuum filtration, some of the reaction mixtures were not able to
properly go through the filtration since it was not able to properly go through the filter.

Stereotypes Of Teenagers
The ages thirteen through nineteen have been influenced by many things through the media. TV
programs, movies, advertising, magazines, and the web. These medias are more used by teenagers
than any other group. Teenagers are very difficult to figure out what they watch, or read, or listen. It s
different, but all together it s mostly the same. The TV programs have a lot of stereotypes towards
teenagers. Girls think they can t do things that guys do. There are programs out there that show those
types of stereotypes and these stereotypes get into their head which makes them realize there s no way
for them to do it. The contradicted stereotypes are that there are some girls out there in this world that
CAN do what any guy can do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In school, there are clubs and after school activities. The people running those advertise by giving out
fliers or just straight up talking to you about their club or the activities. They can also ask a specific
person, like for example, they can go to a different race and talk about a certain subject that s referring
to that race. Anyone can be advertised in any way or anything. It doesn t matter if you re a girl or a
guy or a different race. You ll be advertised anyways. Sometimes when it s a specific type of
advertisement that s referring to someone specific, it can make you think oh it s not for me so I should
just ignore it. And it ll make you feel like that advertisement wasn t for you, but for someone else.
There are so many different kinds of magazines. There are fashion magazines, fitness magazines,
cooking magazines, and all other kinds. The ones that teens usually look at are fashion, fitness, and
sport magazines. For girls the fashion magazine is the one they would most likely look at. They want
to follow the trends and what s in and what s out of fashion and some want to fit in with a crew that
dresses differently. Same thing with the guys. Whatever s out of fashion for them, they don t wear
anymore, but for girls whatever was out can come back to trend. For the guys that usually doesn t
happen. People may think of you differently because of what you re wearing, but they really don t
know who you really are.

Market vs. Command Economy Essay
Market vs. Command Economy What is the main purpose of the economic system? The main purpose
of the economic system is method used to produce and distribute goods and service. The three
economic questions are: What goods should be produced? How should these goods and services be
produced And Who consumes these goods and services? The characteristic of a market economics is
that self interest is the motivating force in the free market, self regulating market. The interaction of
buyers and sellers motivated by self interest and regulated by competition, all happen without a central

Firms buy productive resources in return for making factor payments at factor prices. Product market
is a mechanism that allows people to easily buy and sell products. The interaction between product
and factor markets involves the principle of derived demand. Derived demand refers to the demand for
productive resources, which is derived from the demand for final goods and services or output. Firms
obtain the inputs or factors of production in the factors markets. The goods are sold in the products
markets. In most respects these markets are the same. Price is determined by the interaction of supply
and demand, firm s attempt to maximize profits, factors can influence and change the equilibrium
price and quantities bought and sold and the laws of supply and demand hold. Consumers
(households), in pursuit of their self interest, have the incentive to look for lower prices. An incentive
is the hope of reward or fear of punishment that encourages a person to behave in a certain way. Free
market offer a wider variety of goods and services, and consumers in essence decide what gets
produced which is called consumer sovereignty. Additionally, Centrally Planned Economies usually

New technology has lead to our customers handling their claims via the internet and by contacting our
national call centres. Some areas of work have been contracted out to private industry in order to cut
costs and provide a more bespoke service to customers. This has all resulted in a reduction of staff
headcount in frontline offices and redeployment of employees to other departments or more recently
the offer of redundancy packages. External factors that drive and influence change Political The
coalition government is introducing substantial reforms to the benefits system and Universal Credit is
designed to replace the current system of means tested benefits and tax credits for those on low
incomes. Changes of government have significant impact on welfare policies, and therefore, always
result in change for our department. Social There is significant need for a more simplified system for
payment of benefits that also improves incentives to work. Customers that have previously been left to

The Enzymatic Browning Of Apples
The Enzymatic Browning of Apples
Practical experiment:
The purpose of the experiment is to measure the level of browning, due to the effects of the enzyme
called polyphenol oxidase (phenolase), on apple slices exposed to different Ph. levels.
When exposed to oxygen the enzyme catalyzes the reaction creating melanins (brown pigments) on
the fruit. Soaking the apple slices in acetic acid, orange juice (ascorbic acid), tap water and calcium
carbonate (alkaline) will affect the rate in which the apple slices brown. The reduction of the browning
is dependent on the Ph. levels of the soaking solutions, also soaking the apple slice in water will
restrict the amount of oxygen that comes into contact with the apple thus temporarily inhibiting the
effects of the phenolase.
Understanding the Prac:
By peeling or cutting fruit and vegetables the enzymes that are stored within the plant cells are
released. When in the presence of oxygen the enzyme phenolase catalyzes the biochemical reaction of
converting phenolic compounds into melanins. Enzymatic browning occurs optimally between a PH
of 5.0 and 7.0.
Browning can also occur via the bruising or other injury to the plant tissue, exposing the enzyme to
oxygen. Although enzymatic browning is not always a defect, for instance it is required in the process
of making raisins, coffee, prunes and cocoa, it does however have significant effects on the fruits and
vegetables that do not require browning such as apples. Enzymatic browning not only

Negative Effects Of Media On Millennials
Media s Negative Impact On Millennials
Media is now the dominant source of information and entertainment in the world. People use it as a
major part of their lives, but little do they know how much it impacts them, especially millennials.
According to the Pew Research Center (2017), Today around seven in ten Americans use social media
to connect with one another, engage with news content, share information and entertain themselves.
Today s media is negatively affecting millennial behavior, physical health, and mental health.
Media is affecting the behavior of millennials. Children, on average, watch around twelve thousand
acts of violence on televisionTV each year, such as murder or even sexual assault. Several studies
show that this kind of exposure can lead to aggressive behavior (PMC, 2003, para. 9). Media is also
becoming a heavy influence on sexual morality, portraying sex outside of marriage as common and
seldom mentioning its risks and dangers. Studies show how susceptible teens are to media s influence
on sexual behavior (PMC, 2003, para. 12 13). Drugs are promoted by the media to today s audience as
well. Celebrities are often seen and imitated by millennials as role models; but news and media often
highlight the negative things that they do, portraying sex, drugs, and other addictions as normative
(Mondal, n.d., para. 6). Also, several alcohol and tobacco companies make advertisements telling the
viewer that taking such products is are considered cool (PMC,

Can the Jewish, Christian and Islamic Communities Coexist...
I have been advised by the ruling council of Neutralia to conduct research regarding whether the three
communities, each following a different religion, (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) will be able to
coexist together harmoniously and peacefully in our nation. I have looked at all the three holy
scriptures as well as history and present day examples either supporting or opposing the idea of them
being able to live side by side without conflict.
The Bible
Looking at the holy scripture of Christianity, the Bible, I found that christians are supposed to spread
their religion as much as possible as they want to offer salvation for as many as possible, but are not to
act out as the non believers unwillingness will eventually punish them when they go to hell. (King
James Bible Online Revelation 21:8) Further, it talks about the Jews really following Satan and not
God/G d, as he has blinded them from seeing that the Messiah has come as they teach in Christianity,
since they are still waiting. It says that Jews say they are Jews but really aren t, referring to them as the
synagogue of Satan. (King James Bible Online Revelation 2: 9)
The Qur an
Qur an tells its followers that they should respect the other two Abrahamic religions and their
scriptures, as they are people of the scriptures/book . (The Noble Qur an 29:46, 3:64 65 and 12:111,
Noorhan Abbas, Dr. Eric Atwell, Root, David) Moreover, it claims that all believers can enter paradise
as long as they believe in the one true

Nursing Self Regulation Essay
A profession can be defined as a prestigious occupation with a high degree of identification among its
member that requires a length and rigorous education in an intellectually demanding and theoretically
based course of study; that engages in rigorous self regulation and control; that holds authority over
clients; and that puts service to society above simple self interest (Schwirian, 1998, p. 6). Nursing is
just that, and with its specific body of knowledge, standards, and codes of ethics, it is only fitting that
it be self regulated (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2012). The College of Nurses works with registered
nurses, registered practical nurses, and nurse practioners to determine whether or not standards and
best practices are met and that the public s safety is protected.
Specific Knowledge
Self regulation is the idea of a professional group entering an agreement with the government to
regulate their activities of their members (Canadian Nurses Association, 2007). This allows the
government to have a small role in the control over the practice of the profession and the services that
the members provide, but they do not have to gain in depth expertise to regulate the profession that
would be needed if it were under direct regulation. Self regulation acknowledges that the profession is
able to regulate its members because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

services by providing leadership to the nursing profession in self regulation (CNO, 2012). The College

putting the interests of the public before their own. By establishing a number of requirements for entry
to practice, articulating and promoting practice standards, administering quality assurance, and
enforcing standards of practice and conduct, the College fulfills it s

The Oregon-California Gold Rush
Word eventually got out. On Friday May 12 Sam Brannan brought proof of gold to San Francisco
where he shouted Gold! Gold! Gold from the American River! (60). His motivation for sharing the
news was that he wanted to sell equipment to those who wanted to go on the hunt for gold. Shortly
after this, four thousand people were out looking for gold. Thus, many stores were empty and
newspapers were forced to shut down. The hunt for gold was thought to be a fever Among those who
flocked to the gold were soldiers who abandoned their posts in pursuit of wealth. (61). They were only
making a mere six dollars while some of the gold miners were making over seventy. One soldier even
stated, I had a violent attack of gold fever. (61). The thought of ... Show more content on

The journey to California was extremely difficult. The prices were extraordinary with some boat
tickets costing up to $450. There were also many trails traversed in a manner that lacked hygiene.
Thus, many either faced adversary or simply did not make it. Those who did not make it were most
likely harmed by the poor conditions or disease such as cholera along the Overland Trail in 1849. Out
of all the trails, the Oregon California Trial still proved the most popular overland route (66). It was
estimated that over 100,000 travelers had used said trail by 1851. With the news of gold spreading,
many young Asians left to pursue gold. Manny Europeans also made their journey to California.
Between the years of 1847 and 1851, Irish immigration more than doubled. California quickly became
a melting pot of many races including: blacks, Hawaiians, Peruvians, Germans, Mexicans, and the
Chinese. Due to the many races represented in California, there were also many languages and
cultures. On February 2, 1848, in a 15 million dollar cash deal, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was
signed which added the land that Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and California
occupy to the United States. The expansion in land lead to expansion in other ways as well. In 1851, a
survey showed 537 liquor stores, 46 gambling houses, and 48 houses of prostitution (69). One can
clearly see there was a lot of money to be made. With so much money on the line, people found ways
to maximize their profits. With the same spirit, the Anglos forced many people from the mines with
violent threats. They would then tax those who remained. This tax was in the form of a sixteen dollar a
month foreign miner s tax. In an effort to make even more money, ...the California legislature enacted
another foreign miner s tax aimed specifically at the Chinese... (70).

  • 2. The Utalitarian Approach to Moral Obligation Wand(1979) expounds on Hume ethical theory in relation to moral obligation is a theory of good and evil rather than one of duty and obligation , according to Wand (1956:55): this statement is quite erroneous for Hume does not merely wish to discover the foundation of our moral actions . Hume account of how motives prompt men to moral actions is quite complex, but Wand (1979) also asserts that Hume distinguishes between two basic type of action to make it more understandable. The first type are those action which men will perform without the aid or influence of reason or custom; the second are those action which it can be expected men will normally perform with the aid or influence of reason or custom. Hume distinguishes these two types of action in terms of the specifically moral nature of their motive, whether or not the action is done from a sense of duty; thus for Hume, there are four classes of action: The first, are those actions prompted by the natural or moral motives; The second are those actions prompted by artificial, non moral motive; third; those actions promoted by artificial moral motives. In consideration of his account of moral motivation; Hume s ultimate intention is to show that it cannot be a natural duty to carry out certain types of obligation such as being just or keeping promises. Hume thinks that the actions envisaged cannot constitute duty; it would never be a duty unless human nature possesses some rational inclination prompting individuals to ... Growing up, his family was fairly wealthy as his father dealt with the stock market and economics. After John F. Kennedy grew up, he joined they navy and was a gunboat pilot in World War II. He received battle wounds during the war and after his deployment he was awarded with a purple heart. John F. Kennedy was the second child of Joseph Kennedy Jr. and Rose Kennedy. He was one of nine children including Joe, Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, Patricia, Robert, Jean and Teddy. Kennedy had many accomplishments during his short presidency. One of these accomplishments was in regards to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He played a lead role in figuring out how to settle this with the Soviet Union. He also abolished the federal death penalty in 1962. He initiated Project Apollo which ended up accomplishing landing the first humans on the moon between 1969 1972! Lastly, he played a large part in stopping racism and segregation. He showed a lot of love and sincerity with this and the American people appreciated and admired him for that. He highly disagreed with segregation and focused on civil rights towards the end of his election. On June 11th, 1963, he delivered a televised speech stating his beliefs and presented a proposal for a new bill to be passed. This bill would later be called the Civil Rights Act of 1964. On November 22nd, 1963, President Kennedy had traveled to Dallas, Texas to participate in a motorcade that was traveling to Dealy Plaza. He was sitting with his wife, Jacqueline on the back of a convertible followed by his Vice President, Lyndon Johnson behind him. While he passed the Texas School Book Depository, Lee Harvey Oswald set up a sniper post on the 6th story of the building. Oswald allegedly fired three shots at Kennedy, one missing him and two striking him in the neck and head. • 4. 63cu Research Paper The main components that make up copper are protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons are positively charged, electrons are negatively charged, and neutrons don t have a charge. The nucleus is at the center of the atom, and it contains protons and neutrons. Electrons are stored in energy levels. Since protons have a +1 charge and neutrons don t have a charge, the nucleus is positively charged. The two stable copper isotopes that should be describe are 63Cu and 65Cu. The composition of 63Cu is 0.6915 (15); the composition of 65Cu is 0.3085 (15) ( Isotopes of Copper. Wikipedia). The abundance of 63Cu is 69.17% (2); the abundance of 65Cu is 30.83% (2) ( Copper Isotopes Cu Isotopes). The nucleus of any copper atom has 29 protons and electrons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are 29 electrons in the copper atom. There are 29 electrons in copper because copper has to stay neutral, which means that there are also 29 protons. So, since electrons have a negative charge, and protons have a positive charge, 29 negative plus 29 positive equals no charge/neutral. The electron configuration in symbols can be translated by: the first number is the shell number, the letter is the subshell, and the to the power of, or superscript, is the number of electrons that are present in the subshell. In the s subshell, there is 1 orbital, in the p subshell there are 3 orbitals, and in d subshells, there are 5 orbitals ( Electron Shell. Wikipedia). Each orbital can hold a maximum of two electrons. So, the s subshell can hold 2 electrons, the p subshell can hold 6 electrons, and the d subshell can hold 10 electrons. Since there are 29 electrons in copper, all of the orbitals in the subshells will be filled, except there will be one extra s subshell if you use 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s1. The fourth shell is the highest shell that contains electrons in copper. So, if you were to add up 4s + 4p + 4d + 4f, it would equal 32 electrons ( Electron Shell. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Curious Case of Dax Cowart Essay example The concept of autonomy in the medical practice brings many different views. Autonomy is the ability individuals have to be self governing. In these different views there exist two schools of thought, one is the belief that people are born with the ability to do what they want their body and no organization can tell them what to do with their body, like the government. On the other hand, some people believe that it is more complicated and conditional on mental competency so that person can make rational decisions. However, the majority of people seem to advocate for autonomy. A particular largely uncontroversial discussion arises with the case of Dax Cowart, who had his right to autonomy taken from him in a tragic accident and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We came to this decision because we felt that if a few professional psychiatrist can render him mentally competent than he should be allowed to make his own decisions because it is moral. This is moral because people should be allowed to do what they want with their body, and as Cowart says it is, the right to control your own body is a right you re born with... (Cowart 2). However, this is refuted when that person cannot make rational decisions because that person would be mentally incompetent. People that are mentally incompetent are incapable of making decisions that are in their best interest. We also discussed his mother and how all she cared about is for him to receive treatment which we thought was a bit selfish. This is a typical parental perspective considering that parents do not want to outlive their children. However, she should have sought out what was best for him and what he was going to be happy with and not her. As a group we also felt that he should have received better pain treatment especially since Cowart found out later that they could have done more for his treatment. If someone is in as much pain as he was and when a doctor is confronted with the request to die, that doctor should be doing everything he or she can to bring down the pain. My decision was that he should not receive the treatment because no matter how you look at it you cannot argue with autonomy as long as that person is competent. However, I ... • 9. Creating Homogeneous Ability Grouping Background Research into ability grouping has raised questions about the process of creating homogeneous ability groups. Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the recommendations of teachers and counselors. The benefit of homogeneous ability grouping is the opportunity to provide students with differentiated instruction based on their ability level. The result of heterogeneous ability groups created through the grouping process is one of many concerns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students in the low band can suffer self esteem issues, as well as negative impacts on their attitude and motivation (Suknandan Lee as cited in Smith Sutherland, 2006). The negative impacts are greatly felt by schools in low socioeconomic areas. These schools had higher enrolment numbers, with a larger portion of minority students and a greater range of abilities (Nomi, 2009). The negative impacts on students in the low band are likely to be due to the label placed on them. • 11. Who Is Kubbo A Hero Have you ever been inspired by a hero? Well I have, I will be comparing Kubo, directed by Travis Knight, and The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book and movie were pretty similar according to a Heroic Journey. They both had multiple obstacles that they had to overcome and somehow get through. Bilbo and Kubo were strong heroes because they did things without being asked, they were caring, and determined to succeed. A hero in my eyes is someone who helps others without being asked. For example opening a door for someone if they are carrying multiple things. The hero feels caring for others is valuable. For example when someone is sick you take care of them. In order to find the key hole it had to be the last light and they all thought it meant the last sunlight, but it was the last light of the day which was the moon. Additionally, Kubo fulfills this requirement as well, because he fought his grandfather to save his village and it s people. Kubo got his eye stolen by his grandfather when he was very little. His grandfather wanted the other eye as well until Kubo found all the armour to defend himself from his grandfather. Kubo s grandfather hurt a lot of people including Kubo and his village. Tim has minimal savings while Tom has $80,000 in bank account, while they require $500,000 for the initial setup. Carl Jung as a young man was a colleague of Freud. His life s work was exploring the unconscious. Freud s theory of the unconscious made the unconscious sound unpleasant. He began to focus on broader collective elements he called archetypes. Jung believed that archetypes had a regulatory function beyond the sexual drive. His primary treatment for his patients involved treatment of their unconscious. Jung believed that the archetypal images were the principal structural elements of the unconscious that was express in myths and other collective narratives. The Enlightenment period in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries was an intellectual movement that inspired thought, question, and reason in people across the continent. It was the age of new ideals that forever altered the course of our world today and will always be a time where tradition was no longer the primary way in which people led their lives. Several Enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire, Rousseau, and Hobbes have influenced multiple government systems to reform their ways by inspiring revolution. Natural Rights creates a democratic republic government where supreme power rests with the people and allows them to elect representatives to operate their country, therefore upsetting citizens since absolute monarchies rule. Natural Rights spawns uprisings and revolution in countries because people believe it to be their right to have shared power which is evident through multiple documents such as The English Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution, and The Declaration of the Rights of Man. John Locke s idea of Natural Rights created a whole new aspect of how the government should be constructed. Natural Rights is the freedoms people are born with and should be protected by the government, if not then the citizens have the right to overthrow the government since their rights are not being preserved. Nationalism includes individuals tied together by charismatic bonds such as race, faith, language, economy, way of life, history, ideas, and location. ( Nationalism Greenfeld) These people desire power and strength in which they feel strongly loyal too. In other words they seek development of their nation. For instance, a group called ISIS, also known as The Islamic State deeply follows the Muslim Faith. They are willing to fight to the death for their beliefs on how society should be organized and live. Also, World War One and World War Two are great examples of a historical nationalistic era. People from every country stood their ground and battled until they had nothing left. They risked their lives for their countries which showed true nationalism. Events like these lead to tragic endings which included death, loss in food, clothing, lower economy, political issues, and disputes within countries. The UDHR and the Different World Viewpoints on Human Rights Accepted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is comprised of a preamble and thirty articles. Each article delineates a specific right that every human, either from the sake of being human and/or being part of the collective of humanity, is forever entitled to. On the flip side, the preamble is comprised of seven clauses that taken together accommodate the historical evolution, context, and reasoning behind the document s inscription. Finally, at the end of the preamble is the declaration s proclamation, whose inclusion solidifies the documents global significance. Given the historical time period that the UDHR was conceived in, its thirty rights are quite an astonishing list. However, in today s times, the UDHR does not mention a series of rights that the international community has, in some places more than others, started to accept since 1948. In general, this trend can be easily noticed in how the declaration phrases rights pertaining to the different sexes and/or genders. In not one of the thirty articles, do the words sexual orientation or abortion appear, nor is there any mention that humans have the right to be gay, queer, bisexual etc. At least in the United States, it has become more and more accepted that human beings have the right to whatever sexual orientation that they innately possess. • 25. Comparing Luhrmann s Romeo And Juliet First of all, where does carnivalesque come from? This concept was coined by Mikhail Bakhtin who said it embodied life taking from of a typical carnival. The way things are obscured, or not how they typically would be, essentially life turned inside out is the idea of carnivalism. Without carnival, life remains as usual and therefore it is impossible to point out the obscure nature of what is natural life (Johae, Bakhtinian Carnivalesque 304). Luhrmann had used many carnival elements to represent Romeo and Juliet in his film version, offering a counterproposition where, in the inebriation of festivity, societal roles are inverted and where masks and disguises, as the words indicate, hide identities, including sexual identities, rather than exposing them (Johae, Bakhtinian Carnivalesque 307). By using this, Luhrmann created a new perspective on the love of Romeo and Juliet, calling into question the validity of their love, or even the carnival brought about through their meeting. The youthful heroic girl refers to the legend when contrasting with herself as an approach to empower her rising as the current bloodline descendant. For example, both stories belong to the horror genre where the supernatural appears due to human interferences, and both have a fast and frantic climax where the characters lives are put in jeopardy. However they do differ in places, one of the key differences being that The Monkey s Paw is written in third person whereas The Red Room is a narrative. Jacobs uses his characters even further to build up suspense by describing their physical reaction as well as their dialogue. Mr White s brow cold with sweat shows us how his fear has lead him to the point of sweating proving that he is afraid of the wish he just made. This also convinces the reader that the paw holds forces not to be reckoned with and that if Herbert did come back it would be a horrific rather than cheerful moment. Also Mr White caught his breath when ordered to find the paw, showing that he was scared and dreaded the moment when he would have to wish for his son back as he knew it would lead to doom. This realisation of the potential hazards they would face if Herbert were brought back creates fear and suspense. The description of the character s physical actions is very useful, as it depicts the emotions and thoughts of a character to an extent that dialogue cannot. The contrast of light and darkness within the story is used alongside the characters to create suspense. At the beginning of the story, it was dark, which gave the reader an ominous impression. For example Mr White was going down the stairs to make a wish to bring Herbert back while it was so dark, he had to feel his way around. The darkness generates fear, as it is hard to be sure what is lurking around the corner, and what you might bump in to. Jacobs then contrasts this with the light of the next morning, which provides a break from the suspense. However it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Situation comedies, or sitcoms for short, first began between 1946 and 1947 in the United Kingdom when broadcast station BBC aired Pinwright s Progress (Aaron,2014). The United States soon followed airing their first sitcom in 1950. William Asher has been credited with being the man who invented the sitcom, having directed over two dozen of the leading sitcoms from the 1950s through the 1970s (Cook, 1999). Some of Asher s finest works include Bewitched and I Love Lucy , classics that are still around today. Although situation comedies have been able to withstand time, even with new evolving technology that allows a high focus on effects that have allowed science fiction shows to thrive, they are far from where they began from William Asher s time. Television has always portrayed the culture of the time and in the 1950s a very domestic picture was painted. Family, marriage, and an obedient housewife were all a common factor in sitcoms during this time. Contrary to popular belief, sitcoms in the 1950s rarely portrayed men as loving, doting, patriarchs, but rather as distant providers of the family with stick and stern rules for both their children and wife. (Anderson, 2012). Although television has changed rapidly since the 1950s I argue that the representation of men in sitcoms have evolved very little over time. The Nazi regime singled out the Jewish community to reconcile the belief that Germany had been betrayed in World War I. Once the Jewish community had been made the victim, the system of overlapping agencies pushed institutions to the extreme as they competed for Hitler s attention. The effect of competing to earn consideration created systemic brutality towards the Jewish people in Germany. From the creation of concentration camps and into the concentration camps created a gray zone within where prisoners competed for special treatment by displaying their harshness towards their own compatriots. The Nazi system of racial repression and mass murder of the Jewish population in Germany originated in Adolf Hitler s personal shortcomings as a failed artist and as a scapegoat for Germany s defeat in World War. The system was operated by sycophants acting obsequiously to Hitler in hopes of raising their standing with Hitler to further their career. The origins of Hitler s anti Semitism are widely debated by historians. Common theories include: a self loathing for Hitler s own partial Jewish identity, reaction from hysterical trauma suffered from mustard gas in World War I, sexual fantasies, and a persecution complex. According to Ian Kershaw these theories offer ...differing degrees of plausibility but ultimately amount to no more than guesswork. Kershaw argues that the only thing that can be presumed about the foundations of Hitler s hatred is his low self esteem, his frustrations of being a drop out, failed artist, and being an outsider of society. On top of this, Hitler was reading pan German anti Semitic newspapers and admired deeply the Austrian anti Semite and pan German Leader Georg von Schonerer and anti Semitic demagogue Karl Lueger, mayor of Vienna. All of this coupled with Germany s defeat in World War I led Hitler to find a justification for the world, as he saw it, falling apart. It is said that in producing the song, Spector chose specific instruments so that he could layer them in a way that would overshadow the voices...that just stopped short of being busy. When listening to the track, Uptown, one is able to notice that the Crystals seem to be trying to sing over the musical instrumentations. After the production of Uptown, a former Crystal member mentioned that Spector would barely let them take part in the production process. (Akujobi) However, our society today and in the past have had the same challenge, which is the suppressing of women by men. Anais Nin asked; How wrong is it for a woman to expect the man to build the world she wants, rather than to create it herself? In today s life it is getting better since women finally start having their own carrier instead of getting married with 20 while already being pregnant. Augsburg s bishop Walter Mixa called women a few years ago baby producers , which is a very outdated view of women and got ripped into pieces for that statement. This shows that even though they are old fashioned people around the majority understands that women and men are equal and women deserve to be happy, independent and successful. There are many types of structures that an organization might have, each of them comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Let us look at the benefits and drawbacks of three (or rather, five) of the more modern structures. Matrix organizations One of the biggest challenges for employees in a matrix organization is the fact that they have to report to multiple managers. With employees directly reporting to two or more supervisors, these supervisors need to be highly coordinated with one another to make sure that they re giving consistent orders. Otherwise, employees may be given orders from different managers that are very difficult to follow in unison. Even worse, orders from different managers can outright conflict. Employees can t follow these orders because they re mutually exclusive. This causes ambiguity and confusion as to what the employee should do. This problem can be avoided with high levels of communication and coordination between department managers and project managers though. If these managers can stay on the same page, they can have a much clearer picture of where to lead employees and they can put up a unified front. In that way, instructions from either manager that a given employee reports to can give orders consistent with the orders given by the other manager, and the employee will be able to follow the lead of both managers simultaneously. There are clearly challenges in leading a matrix organization, as well as challenges in working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jesus is our Mediator Hebrews 9:15 20 INTRODUCTION Starting in Chapter 3 of Hebrews, the author begins talking about Jesus as High Priest, including its relation to the order of Melchizedek, and the Heavenly nature of His priesthood. He has also related the role of Jesus as High Priest to His Covenant that was created by His death through His blood. Now, in Chapter 9, the author is explaining the relation between the earthly priesthood of the Old Covenant, and the Heavenly priesthood of Jesus in the New Covenant. At this time, Jews were still offering sacrifices and viewing the presence of God as one visited in the tabernacle on earth. The Hebrew author is stating here, beginning in verse 11, that Jesus priesthood will not serve in the earthly tabernacle, but He will serve in the Heavenly tabernacle and enter into the presence of God there. The author then explains the difference between the earthly and Heavenly priesthood, and why the Heavenly priesthood is superior. • 48. The Enzymatic Browning Of Apples The Enzymatic Browning of Apples Practical experiment: The purpose of the experiment is to measure the level of browning, due to the effects of the enzyme called polyphenol oxidase (phenolase), on apple slices exposed to different Ph. levels. When exposed to oxygen the enzyme catalyzes the reaction creating melanins (brown pigments) on the fruit. Soaking the apple slices in acetic acid, orange juice (ascorbic acid), tap water and calcium carbonate (alkaline) will affect the rate in which the apple slices brown. The reduction of the browning is dependent on the Ph. levels of the soaking solutions, also soaking the apple slice in water will restrict the amount of oxygen that comes into contact with the apple thus temporarily inhibiting the effects of the phenolase. Understanding the Prac: By peeling or cutting fruit and vegetables the enzymes that are stored within the plant cells are released. When in the presence of oxygen the enzyme phenolase catalyzes the biochemical reaction of converting phenolic compounds into melanins. Enzymatic browning occurs optimally between a PH of 5.0 and 7.0. Browning can also occur via the bruising or other injury to the plant tissue, exposing the enzyme to oxygen. Although enzymatic browning is not always a defect, for instance it is required in the process of making raisins, coffee, prunes and cocoa, it does however have significant effects on the fruits and vegetables that do not require browning such as apples.
