The presentation of the talk "Solid Pods Vs Personal Knowledge Graphs: Similarities and Differences" that was given by the PhD researcher Eleni Ilkou, in the 2nd Solid Symposium.
Abstract:
Solid Pods and Personal Knowledge Graphs are pioneering constructs within the Semantic Web community, each offering unique avenues for empowering individuals in the digital realm.
Solid Pods stand as decentralized bastions of data control which grant users unprecedented authority over their digital presence, ensuring ownership, privacy and portability of personal data.
Personal Knowledge Graphs infuse personal data and activity with contextual relevance, facilitating the synthesis and discovery of knowledge.
This presentation aims to briefly reflect on the main similarities and differences among the Solid Pods and Personal Knowledge Graphs.

What is a Personal KG?
Solid Pods vs Personal KGs
• Similarities
• Differences
• Grey ground
3. What is a Personal Knowledge Graph?
Small(er) user-centric Knowledge Graphs
Contain user data and activity
Goal: fill the gap of representationof user's data over bigger encyclopedic(DBpedia)
and/or domain KGs (medical KG) [1]
Ex. In medical domain
The domain KG representsthe diseases, symptoms and drugs
The Personal KG representsthe user data, the family history, previous diagnosis, drug
prescriptions, allergies etc
5. Solid Pods Vs Personal KGs - Similarities
Semantic Web
initiatives
Compliance to SW
standards
Leverage of
personal data
Decentralization
User-centric data
management
Dynamic entities
Real-life applications
7. Solid Pods Vs Personal KGs - Differences
Development and adaptation
Centralized[3] Vs Individual efforts
Data ownership
End user Vs Platform
Transparency on storage and data usage
Data independent of application[2] Vs Data
dependent on application and interconnected
