Similarities And Differences In Ancient Greece
In this essay two Ancient Greek city states (polies) will be compared and contrasted showing how
despite their differences, they both rose to become predominating powers. Ancient Greece consisted of
many small city states, two of which were Athens and Sparta. Athens was considered the center of fine
arts, music, and educational opportunities. Sparta was known for its outstanding military strength and
tactical abilities at war. Life for a Spartiate was comprised of constant training and conditioning for
war, while an Athenian citizen would spend much of their day pursuing what they wished. Although
these two city states were substantially different, they both rose to become the two most predominant
powers in Ancient Greece.
There were several advantages and disadvantages to each of these two polies. Their societal structures
were relatively similar, and their governments were exact opposites. Athens was a very artistic and
philosophical city state while Spartan culture revolved more around the training of men for war and
stability of the government. Spartans valued organization and stability, while Athenians comparatively
valued freedom of choice. There were also huge gender biases between the two polies, and through all
of this, traditions and beliefs have been passed down to our generations today, helping to shape the
world we live in.
To begin with the simplest societal structure of these two poleis. Spartan society was divided into
three main classes. At the top was

Compare Electronic Mediated And Face-To-Face Communication
Compare Electronic Mediated and Face to Face Communication Communication is evolving quickly,
offering us more options than ever before. Cellphone calls, texting via short messaging (SMS), Skype,
teleconferencing, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, and face to face communication all play a major role in
how people communicate with others around the world. Despite how I may fee, face to face
communication is the best way to communicate with people because a lot of things won t get taken out
of context and their won t be any misunderstanding.
People are now connected electronically to 24 hour news cycles, updates on all the movements and
activities of friends and celebrities, and even, in the case of physicians, with latest research findings on
diagnoses and treatments of illnesses. Even counseling has expanded thanks to the Internet where
some counselors now offer group sessions via chat, or provide treatment via instant messaging and
emails. Psychologists have expressed concern whether computer mediated communication (CMC)
will help or hinder those individuals who may be lonely and isolated from others. CMC has definitely
changed how we communicate with others and has had an equal amount of problems related to
misinterpretation.
When it came to choosing one form of computer or electronic mediated communication, I decided to
go with texting via short messaging system (SMS) due to many reasons with the main reason is
because in the generation I live in we are always on our phones

The Stamp Act And The American Revolution
The American Revolution was a political change that occurred somewhere around 1765 and 1783
amid which pilgrims in the Thirteen American Colonies dismisses the British government and
privileged, toppled the power of Great Britain, and established the United States of America. The
Stamp Act was gone by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765. The new duty was forced on all
American settlers and obliged them to pay an assessment on every bit of printed paper they utilized.
Ship s papers, authoritative archives, licenses, daily papers, different productions, and notwithstanding
playing cards were burdened. The cash gathered by the Stamp Act was to be utilized to help pay the

Zoos And The Conservation Of Animals
A family is enjoying a trip to their local zoo when they stop to look at the tigers. The child sprints over
to exhibit with excitement; he notices a red sign stuck the glass of the enclosure which reads,
Endangered. Daddy, if the zoo is keeping the tigers in a cage in order to save them, when will they let
them back into the wild to live free? Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the
unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding Never. It has become noticeably evident that zoos
are not a current resource for the protection of rare and endangered species. Animals should not be
kept in zoos, because they fail at the conservation of animal species, provide little or no education
about habitat and the behavior of animals, and harm the animals physically and mentally.
Primarily, zoos fail at the conservation of animal species. Zoos claim that certain species would
become extinct if places like zoos did not exist, but they ultimately fail at the conservation of animal
species. Animals who are endangered will likely never be released back into natural habitats ( Zoos:
Pitiful Prisons par. 9). The Author of Captive Animal Protection Society states, Many zoos have no
contact of any kind with any reintroduction program, meaning that once the animals are introduced to
zoos, they are likely to remain there. One U.S. study found no compelling evidence for zoos and
aquariums to make the claim that they promote interest of conservation upon conversing with

Weaknesses Of Literature
A bewildering number of research reports are published annually. The reports differ with regard to
quality, comprehensibility, and relevance to practice (Mårtensson et.al, 2016). Furthermore, the studies
may have multiple strengths and weaknesses depending on the research methodology they employ.
Therefore, to establish a solid foundation for research on any subject and to prevent the replication of
inaccurate information, it is essential that scholars critically evaluate the available scientific evidence
(Mårtensson et al., 2016). The critical evaluation of philosophies or claims is crucial in the
development of independent thinkers and informed decision makers. It is the only way of
distinguishing among differing claims of truths and determining the credibility or trustworthiness of
different viewpoints. On that note, this essay seeks to analyze two pieces of literature that try to
answer the question as to whether the stimulant use is related to positive academic performance
among college students. In specific, the paper will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the two
studies and discuss the factors, which influence evidence based practice, with a special consideration
of the PICO elements. Part A Hildt, E., Lieb, K., Franke, A. G. (2014). Life context of

Film Review of the King of Masks Essay
The King of Masks , directed by Wu Tianming, is a sentimental melodrama with many underlying
themes, one of which is the theme of love. The plot of the film, the morals that it teaches, and its
impact on the audience all revolve around love. The King of Masks centers around the old street
performer, Wang, played by Zhu Xu, who is desperately in search of a male successor to inherit his
secret art of face changing . Fate allows him to meet with Doggie, a young child whose role is
heartwarmingly played by the child actress Zhou Renying, who herself was sent away by her
impoverished family to join an acrobatic troupe at the age of 3 (Maslin, 1999). The importance of love
during harsh times is portrayed through the development of the ... Show more content on

Another instance of this can be seen when Wang willingly buys Doggie new clothes although he
himself was poor and going through hardships as shown by his modest attire and humble riverboat
home. When Doggie falls sick and Wang does not possess enough money to buy medicine, he even
sacrifices the family treasure which had been passed down to him through generations in order to cure
her. This all shows that Wang values Doggie s life and wellbeing more than money and material
possessions no matter how important they were to him. These events foreshadow the significance of
supporting each other through frugal times, even if it includes self sacrifice. Doggie is shown to
remunerate the old performer s benevolence later on in the movie following Wu s use of
foreshadowing. The film explores the subject of mutual need which exists between the old man and
the child. The old man needs someone in his life to cure his loneliness and a heir to inherit his art
whilst the child longs for a home and compassion (Stack, 1999). Both of their needs are satisfied when
their lives cross and they begin living together in Wang s small riverboat home. Wang and Doggie s
emotional bonds shown in the initial half of the film seemed almost like that of a real grandfather and
grandson, related by blood. Doggie cooks for Wang and scratches his back, an act which is often only
exchanged between the closest of family members. Wang accepting this

Abstinence In School
There are a lot of schools nationwide that do not offer a sex education course to early high school
students. Schools that do offer the course tend to focus entirely on abstinence. However, the reality of
it all is that sexual intercourse is a natural part of life. There are many students that take abstinence
only classes and leave the class with only the knowledge of not taking part in intercourse. Many
young students miss out on important information that they should be informed of. All students should
take a Sex Education class in their early high school years to protect them and build a responsible
mindset.
There are parents that feel uncomfortable with their children taking a sex education class. This can be
due to various reasons. Many

Racism In The Film Remember The Titans
There are many people in our world today, that believe racism is a problem of the past, that
segregation and inequality are expressions that are not relevant today. The cold heart felt reality of this
statement is that racism, is even more alive in our world today, than ever before. Circumstances such
as, Caucasians being paid more than African Americans for the same job and Caucasian police officers
gunning down innocent African Americans and being acquitted for it, are just some examples of the
racial tensions in our society today. The people that believe racism is no longer a problem in this
world, are simply ignoring the recent and past tragedies of African Americans. The inequalities this
minority group has endured, has caught the attention of certain groups of people, that are trying to
bring change, by taking a stand for a solution. In this challenge, the media has been very effective, in
not only bringing the problems to the surface but also in seeking to effect resolutions. Throughout our
countries past, the media, and even more specifically, movies, have been a powerful tool in bringing
light of many types of injustices brought onto minority groups. A prime example of a movie that
presents some of these issues is Remember the Titans . Throughout this essay, I will be analyzing this
film, identifying some of the aspects of the film s form, content and symbolism, regarding the impact
on American culture, that can be seen within it.

Levitation Spell Case Study
The three Charms I chose for are the Levitation Charm, the Unlocking Charm and the Locomotion
Charm. Charm 1: The Levitation Charm: The incantation for the Levitation Charm is Wingardium
Leviosa (pronounced: wing GAR dee um lehvee O sa). The wand movement is called Swish and Flick
. You raise your wand to the left, then move it towards the right, then get the point of your wand back
to your body and finally forward it in the direction of your target. You must do the Swish while you
are saying Wingardium , and end the Swish just when you start to say Leviosa and finish the Flick
when you finish to say Leviosa . For this spell, high focus is very important. While you are casting the
spell, you must focus on your target, the thing you want to levitate. While levitating the object, you
must keep your focus on your target, otherwise you can levitate something else. You must also
visualize energy going through your wand. Charm 2: The Unlocking Charm: ... Show more content on

to begin the wand movement as you start saying the incantation, and finish the wand movement at the

because, at the end, the point of your wand must be directed towards the lock. You don t have to really
see the lock you want to unlock, but it somehow must be attached to the door, which you want to
unlock, so you must still point your wand to the door or other thing the lock is attached to. With this

Mike Pence Research Paper
A comment on Mike Pence... It s always good to look at patterns of reasoning and behavior of
candidates for public office. For example, Mike Pence as governor of the state of Indiana issued a
ruling saying that he will not allow any Syrians to be placed in the state of Indiana with federal
money. So, the states receive substantial grants from the federal government to aid in the resettlement
of refugees, including Syrians. This policy was challenged by a resettlement group in Indiana that
works with, among other people, Syrians. And a judge, a local judge in a federal court judge in
Indiana enjoined the policy, saying that this was unfair and discriminatory. And just recently, a three
judge panel of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals not

EMDR Weaknesses
Weaknesses and Downsides to EMDR EMDR has weaknesses and debated for being controversial due
to it being difficult to support the signature aspect of the therapy, namely alternating eye movements
as actually necessary to the treatment (McLay et al., 2016, p. 702). Eye movements and cognitive
reprocessing which are deemed by EMDR as essential failed to make a unique contribution to the
outcome of therapy (Rubin, 2002, p. 14). According to the Prochaska Norcross, The eye movements
are only one form of bilateral stimulation and may not be required for the therapeutic effect (2014, p.
211). Hand taps and repetition of auditory cues are other alternate stimuli which can be used instead of
eye movements. Early claims were made about EMDR having almost magical results that only one
session of EMDR could provide treatment for clients (McLay et al., 2016, p. 702; Prochaska Norcross,
2014, p. 210). Furthermore, EMDR could be viewed as a simple variant of exposure therapy with a
gimmick in marketing the therapy as something new (Rubin, 2002, p. 12). According to Perkins
Rouanzoin (2002), EMDR is best explained by learning processes that subsume exposure and
cognitive behavioral treatments (p. 80). EMDR has not been proven effective outside of PSTD.
Prochaska Norcross explains that EMDR has not been studied thoroughly with other behavioral
disorder beyond PTSD and insufficient data makes it difficult to determine its effectiveness in other
domains (2014, p. 211).

Frida Kahlo Self Portrait With Necklace Of Thorns
Frida Kahlo, a captivating artistic legend. She was born in 1907 in Coyoacán and died in the same
town in 1954. Kahlo said her art arose from three experiences: a bus accident that nearly killed her in
her adolescence, her inability to bear children, and her tempestuous relationship with Diego Rivera
(Grimberg 7). Most of Kahlo s works were self portraits, according to Herrera, she once said, I paint
self portraits because I m so often alone, because I am the person I know best (3). She painted Self
Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird in 1940 when she was separating from Diego Rivera.

Another reason I like the work is the detail Kahlo puts into it, for example, the different shades of
green on the leaves. I also am fond of the work because of its accuracy based on her actual image and
how Frida Kahlo has the capability of panting herself without making her image look better by fixing
her flaws.
The Hybrid Sources of Frida Kahlo, explains what the author thinks Kahlo is trying to communicate
with her self portrait. The author mentions how Kahlo could ve been inspired by a French artist.
Zarobell says, It seems odd for an artist from Mexico, whose territory includes tropical jungles, to be
generating jungle imagery modeled on that of a modern Parisian (Zarobell). The author then says that
the painting was Kahlo s creation of her world, in this case, her jungle. I agree with Zarobell to a
certain point, although Kahlo doesn t paint the jungle behind her as realistic as it could be, it does not
distract me from the painting. I agree with Zarobell when he mentions that the painting is the artist s
views or thoughts. Kahlo s jungle shows, this since she had seen the tropical jungles, Kahlo does what
she wanted with the subject which differs from the realistic image. There are many symbols the
painting incorporates which have a deeper meaning that Zarobell does not capture in his review. In

Analysis Of Still Life With Golden Breams By Francisco De...
Many artists through time have used art to express emotion or a standpoint, and Francisco de Goya
can surely be classified under this category of artist. Famously known for his controversial
relationship with the Spanish government the audience may conclude that many of his painting will
have a connection to the dispute. For example, in Still Life with Golden Breams most people may see
it as a well made still life of lifeless fish but in reality, it holds a deeper meaning. For instance, when
someone gets the opportunity to observe this composition they could say that the inability for the
Golden Breams to close their eyes reminds the viewer of how the fish were ones alive. That is to say
Goya probably made this still life to symbolize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Texture and mass are also very evident in this artwork. Francisco de Goya used texture and value to
his advantage to create a realistic figure that contains mass. The illusion of mass is so well portrayed
that it is almost as if the viewer could reach in and grab a fish out of the canvas and hold it like a
merchant in a fish market. In addition, the way the fish are stacked on top of each other renders an
organic rhythm that flows easily. In other words, the Golden Breams do not look as if they were in an
artificial potion rather it looks natural. Overall, Goya used atmospheric perspective to create the sense
of proximity of the fish to the viewer by modifying color, value, and texture. The overall style of
Francisco de Goya was miscellaneous since it evolved and changed through his careers as an artist,
however, his message to portray his standpoint and feeling has been there since the beginning. Goya s
brush strokes would vary from slow and delicate to raid and aggressive depending on his work. In
addition, his use of contrast would deviate from time as well but in his most noticeable artwork he
would highlight the main subject and darken the background. The way Goya used light and darkness
ended up created a unique technique where the artist would force the audience to look at a specific

Catcher In The Rye Isolation Quotes
By the end of the novel, Holden learns to accept society for what it is and accept the fact that kids do
not necessarily need his protection from society or any of its prejudices, judgements, or expectations.
This does not mean that he cannot help them, as he can stay there and be waiting for them to at least
reduce the pain undergone due to the aforementioned societal aspects whenever they need his help.
After a single day and a deep, meaningful, and serious talk with Mr. Antolini, Holden adapts to fit this
role ideally. When he is about to leave for Mr. Antolini s house, Holden [takes] [his] hunting hat out of
[his] coat pocket and [gives] it to [Phoebe]. She likes those kind of crazy hats. She [does not] want to
take it, but [he] [makes] her. (Salinger, 198 199). Here, Holden gives the hat to Phoebe in hopes that it
will protect her from whatever societal harshness or hardships she undergoes while he is at Mr.
Antolini s house. This hunting hat jointly symbolizes protection and isolation. It is a way of isolating
oneself from all of the phony people because as Holden himself admits on multiple occasions, it is
ugly and displeasing to the eye. This could potentially be a way by which he tries to deter himself
from all of the phoniness in the world. One type of phonies are those who take everything at face
value, and by wearing this hat, Holden deters at least them. That could even be the reason why he likes
this hat so much: the fact that it makes him come into contact

The Degradation Of Socio Ecological Coastal Areas Of The...
Introduction
The Philippines is an archipelagic country located in Southeast Asia. The Philippines is composed of
7,100 islands bestowed with rich coastal resources and marine diversity (Balgos, 2005). With rich
coastal resources, Filipinos made coastal fishing activities its main livelihood. On the other hand,
tourism is also seen as a growing industry in the coastal areas. This has resulted in the degradation of
socio ecological coastal areas in the Philippines. Because of this problem, it is important for the
stakeholders to clearly identify its roles and responsibilities in order to make a sustainable future for
everyone. However, if the policies are not clearly defined and strictly implemented, problems and
issues, particularly with coastal resources, will arise. These include overfishing, destructive fishing,
sedimentation and disposal of untreated waste, lack of integrated management plans, lack of
enforcement, lack of community involvement, and lack of alternative livelihood options (Parras,
2001). This will not only affect the physical environment, but also everyone that depends on it and its
resources for their livelihood. As environmental issues are a very broad topic to discuss, I will be only
focusing on the current challenges being faced by the stakeholders involved in Tacloban City,
Philippines (Figure 1). For example, the policies being implemented that affect coastal shores and
resources, and the strategies that will help minimize the damage around it.

Consumer Behaviour Notes
Chapter 1
Read pages 4 6 and 22 for digital revolution
Consumer behaviour is defined as the behaviour that consumers undertake in seeking, purchasing,
using, evaluating and disposing of products and services that they expect will satisfy their personal
needs.
Personal and organisational consumers (page 9)
The personal consumer buys good and services for his or her own use, for use by the whole
household, for another member of the household or as a gift for a friend.
In all these contexts, the goods are bought for final use by individuals, who are referred to as end users
or ultimate consumers .
The organisational consumer includes profit and non profit businesses, public sector agencies and
institutions, all of which buy products, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Targeting is selecting one or more of the segments identified for the company to pursue.
Positioning is developing a distinct image for the product or service in the mind of the consumer, an
image that will differentiate the offering from competing ones and squarely communicate to
consumers that the particular product or service will fulfil their needs better than competing brands.
Chapter 2
Mass marketing is offering the same product and marketing mix to all consumers.
Repositioning is accomplished by changing the promotional appeal, the distribution strategy or the
price, based on the characteristics of a new segment or changing characteristics of the existing
segment.
Bases for segmentation page 35 onwards
The first step in developing a segmentation strategy is to select the most appropriate base(s) on which
to segment the market.
Geographic segmentation the market is divided by location (state, region, location, housing density,
and climate).
Demographic segmentation refers to the identifiable and measureable statistics of a population (age,
sex, marital status, income, occupation and education). Demographic information is often the most
accessible and cost effective way of identifying a target market. Demographic doesn t define why.
Psychological segmentation focuses on the inner or psychological characteristics of consumers. It
refers to intrinsic qualities of the individual consumer, and such consumer

The Automobile Trade between Canada and USA
Canada and United States Automobile Trade
Abstract
The Automobile trade between Canada and USA holds relevance to both countries and their economic
prosperities. The trade between the two neighbors became more pronounced after the signing of APTA
in 1956. Following that further agreements like FTA which later became NFTA lifted the tariff from
other goods as well. This paper reveals how the free trade allowed America and Canada to work in
tandem to import and export vehicles across the border and to other places in the world. The impact of
trade agreement made the country s auto sectors and GDP enhance several folds. Canada gained a lot
more from the trade as its economy needed a bigger boost than America. In the production of
automobiles, America is the dominant player in making the parts where as Canada assembles it into a
vehicle. The trade also paved way for Vertical Specialization as is discussed in the paper. The trade
between the two nations saw a downward drift following the 2008/2009 energy crisis that majorly
targeted the United States. Since the Canadian market is linked to America s market, it also became a
victim of crisis in the auto industry. Despite these troubles, both the nations have attempted to stabilize
the problems and still carry on trade and thus progress their import and export quantity as well.
Overall, this paper emphasizes the importance of the joint collaboration of both countries in
automobile industry and its success.

Sacrifice (and issues related to it) have been an inherent part of literature from the beginning. The
intense connection between destruction and creation raises questions about the human capability for
violence and love in equal measure and seemingly violates the natural human instinct for survival.
This has solidified its place as an object of fascination and scrutiny for generations. Sacrifice is not
simply a matter of giving up one s life or something equal to it for someone else; oftentimes,
psychological motivations behind sacrifice are very complex. However, in works such as The Kite

Although he is a sensitive and bookish young boy, instances of a mean streak appear throughout the

instance, he goes so far as to tease Hassan into admitting that he would eat dirt if he told him to, and to

Iqbal Masih As A Hero In Francesco DAdamos
Iqbal Masih, the hero that heroes look up to. Heroes are not people that have adequate, if not more,
amount of money and are known worldwide, but instead they are people that are looked up to as role
models or inspire people to do good things. They are admired for their strength, not just physically, but
also mentally. In Francesco D Adamos, Iqbal, Iqbal Masih is the protagonist of the novel and he is
shown as the redeemer of child labor. He is truly a hero as he possesses all the skills that any hero
needs. He has shown his great potential in many cases where he is able to free innocent and vulnerable
children from child labor. He was certainly able to send Pakistan s child laborers a clear message to
stop child labor. Without a doubt he was definitely a hero. Analyzing the wonderful Iqbal book, this

Iqbal was not a kind of person that showed off his bravery and heroism. Bragging wasn t a word in his

involve the medical examiner. Both in Utah and Minnesota, the medical examiner, is in charge of
conducting inquiries. Additionally, the medical examiner performs any necessary examinations and
retains the samples for scientific analysis. Moreover, the medical examiner may also request access to
the medical history of the individuals involved in the incident. The activities required of the medical
examiner, as the principal investigator both in Utah and Minnesota, are identical (Marchev et al.,

The steps taken to protect incident reports and control that may obtain the information. There is little

information of the incidents (Minnesota Institute of Legal Education, 1992). The information is
collected via telephone, faxes, mail, and Internet sites. As a concession, the reporting systems officials

Go!Go!Go! Dangling on the edge of a cliff I heard the echo of Sir Rolyat s voice. The crew had left a
clear path from the edge of the mountain all the way to the safe area. I reached up and swung my legs

Transformative Power Of Travel
The Transformative Power of Travel Travel has the ability to take an individual out of their mundane
routine and places them into a whole new world where their brains are free from the repetition that
keeps them trapped. This sense of independence allows them to explore and discover their true
identity apart from their daily life. Pico Iyer s short essay, Why We Travel discusses the notion that
travel is a complex, powerful, and necessary tool for self discovery and knowledge. Alfred Hitchcock
s 1950 s film North by Northwest tells the tale of mistaken identity of a two timed divorced
advertising executive, Roger Thornhill, who finds himself on the run and in constant imminent danger.

to notice the manipulative behaviors that others impose on him as he loses his status. Roger discovers
that the professor did not fully disclose that by putting himself in danger he would not actually save

of doing something good. However, now that the professor turned the tables and did the same thing to
Roger he begins to fight for Kendall by stating that this is no way to treat a woman. This marks a
major character transformation in Roger Thornhill. Not only does Roger discover what manipulation

Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean
Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: For human populations, particularly people in the
poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food. As a result,
fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic
levels that are higher than those fished. For a long period of time, several human populations across
the globe have continued to depend on fish as a significant source of food and nourishment, which has
contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease
in the global catch of fish. Nonetheless, the links between overfishing and food security have
remained largely unclear and uncertain. According to the findings of research, approximately 50
percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan,
Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled
by the significant increase in the demand for food because of the constant increase of human
population. While the practice has remained a major threat to every fish species in the ocean, it has
largely contributed to the large migrations by marine mammals as they seek to get the left over fish.
Since the 1950s, there has been an increasing trend in the number of unsustainable fisheries, which is
an indication of the global geographic expansion of overfishing (Coll et. al., p.1).

Differences And Similarities Between Hinduism And...
The world is made up of different religions that consist of different beliefs and different ways of
worshipping those beliefs. It is one s opinion to place judgment on whether a certain type of religion is
right or wrong . Essentially, religious beliefs boil down to the connection one feels within oneself.
Whether that connection can be explained by nature or spiritual beings, is determined by the beliefs a
person lives by. The most common religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and
Islam. Here, we will discuss the differences and similarities between Hinduism and Christianity. These
two religions are the most alike out of the five previously mentioned religions.
Hinduism is the major religion of India, and it unites the worshipping of many gods while believing in
a single divine reality. Hinduism can be thought of as an umbrella of many beliefs. The Hinduism
religion believes in many gods, each one having a specific purpose. Many of them are mentioned in
the Vedas, which contains the ancient scriptures of India. The Vedas are the earliest sacred books of
Hinduism, and its name translates to knowledge or sacred lore . It is said that the Vedas were revealed
to holy men of the distant past, who transmitted them to later generations. Similar to the Bible, the
Vedas were originally preserved in oral form then eventually written down. The Vedic period is
estimated to date back to about 2000 to 500 BCE. During this period is when a vast amount of

Construction of cathedrals started around the 11 century. The first cathedrals were built in France and
later its style and architecture extended across Europe. During the medieval times people were going

manors they served. It was as if all that existed was just what was behind the castle walls. Until the
construction of cathedrals came forth this gave people faith and hope that their lives will prosper.

young readers.
Explain why this character or individual was an important example to young readers.
A character in the book Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta who was an important example to
young readers was the protagonist Josephine Alibrandi herself. Through the changes in Josie s life, she
was able to develop her character mentally that resulted in better bonds with many of her family
members. By the end of the book the young readers are clearly able to witness how the positive
changes that Josie went through have helped her to find a balance between her Italian heritage and
Australian Nationality. The main idea of Josephine Alibrandi s mental development was shown after
John Barton s death. Josephine discovers to value her identity, and change her approach towards life.
John Barton was a close friend of Josie, with whom she had a potentially competitive and romantic
relationship with. Throughout the book, John Barton is extremely unhappy and feels pressured by his
family to be what he is not, as a result he ends his life. John s death was a huge loss to Josie yet it was
an opportunity for her to develop mentally at the same time. In the book, Josephine reflects on 17
years of her life where she has cursed her Italian heritage as that s what made it different from the
people around her. We see this when she says If there s anything I would have to escape in

The Duality of Violence and Passivity in Relation to Environment in Wuthering Heights Characters in
Wuthering Heights exemplify the effect of dual natures and the destructive impact such internal
struggles can have on filial relations. The motives that drive the characters are inextricably linked to
the warring forces inside them that are the impetus for the rash and ruinous actions that are common to
both major households in the novel. Consequently, the prevalence of duality throughout the novel
signifies the importance of a double nature in characterizing humanity. Catherine is the most relevant

found in other ways than from the school district. Our high school band does not receive any money
from the school district for anything other than the fact that our two band directors are both Okaloosa

Elvis Presley, when referring to the image celebrities portray, once said, The image is one thing and
the human being is another. It s very hard to live up to the image. In the past, celebrities have caught a
lot of flack for who they are, or whom they show themselves as, especially in magazine articles. With
interviews such as the infamous Tom Cruise incident on Oprah, it is no surprise that many celebrities
now try to blend in. In Katie Roiphe s reading Profiles Encouraged on page 439 of the Remix book,
she talks about exactly that. Long gone are the days where interviews and profiles, a fancy term for

Necrophilia Cults
As defined by the American Heritage Dictionary a cult is 1) a system or community of religious
worship and ritual 2a) a devoted attachment to, or extravagant admiration for, a person, principle, etc.,
especially when regarded as a fad b) the object of such attachment 3) a group of followers; (Aronoff,
2000).
Some of the major features of cults as described by Whitsett et al. include family dynamics within
cults, child abuse, health issues, and moral development. A common/devastating repercussion of cult
participation is losing complete control by subjecting to leadership. Cult leaders are so controlling
they typically curtail and demolish relationships between families when they feel their loyalty is being
threatened. Members of cults are denied independence and all parental authority is diminished. Cults
tear families apart, take children away from their parents, and demand complete control over all of the
members.
An alarming ramification of participating in a cult is that the members are regularly facing feelings of
extreme shame and humiliation, in the community and at home. Children are forced into feelings of
humiliation and parental abandonment so that in turn they search for someone to look up to and
admire, in this case the cult leader. While, the adults within the cult are shamed into feeling less ...

Gm Crops And Its Effects On Our Health
GM Crops Essay
GM Crops are you unknowingly consuming these mutated fruit and vegetables in your diet? And what
affect do these mutations have on our health; do they have any effect on our health? GM crops are
plants whose genetic structure has been transmogrified and improved by the act of biological genetic
engineering. Genetically modifying crops involves extracting a gene from one organism and inserting
it into another. The purpose of the genetic engineering is to either improve the structure of the
organism or to improve their yields. GM has many advantageous effects which include: producing
more pest resistant crops, increasing the production yield of the crops and many people also argue that
GM crops have a superior flavour and texture than normal crops. Conversely there are numerous
disadvantages to the use of GM crops which include: an increased risk of allergic reactions since the
extracted genes may be extracted from a product which certain people are allergic to, and this may not
be made clear on the packaging or the consumers may lack the appropriate knowledge. Yet another
vitally important positive is that GM Crops have the ability to reduce the factors of starvation and
increase our diets nutritional value.
The Scottish government have recently introduced a formal ban on the genetic modification of crops
in Britain. But why? What conceivable negativity could be brought about by the introduction of GM
crops?

Descriptive Essay On Leo
Up in the twinkling night sky of the cosmos marvels a constellation of a Nemean Lion that I

a July 27 baby, I am a Leo. During my youth, while buried under blankets, I fervently read horoscopes

decipher their own identity and luckily, exploring my zodiac sign tremendously helped me
comprehend the inner workings of my mind. Learning about my zodiac sign was a remarkable
comfort, it electrified me that I was the paradigm of a Leo. In between the words of astrology blogs,
the answers to the what and why for my own idiosyncrasies were revealed. Those revelations of a
proud fiery zodiac sign manifest as my own characteristics. From my mannerisms to my physique, the
Leo archetype illustrates who I am.
Since the symbol for Leo is a mighty lion, boasting a voluminous mane is, of course, a stereotype of
those born under this sign. One of my most distinguishable features is my silky, straight, waist length,
black hair. Whether it s because of favorable genetics or astrological luck, I frequently receive
compliments on my luscious locks. Specifically, I ll be sitting in class, leaning back, and ruffling the

Diversity is no new thing in the workplace. Many different factors account for this circumstance in the
business arena. Gender, race and ethnicity, and age are a few of the major factors that create diversity
within the workplace. The latter, age, is one of the more understated and disregarded issue of diversity.
But over time, differences in age in the workplace has been growing more and more, generating

respectable guy like Atticus and other people in the town, but the things he has been through might
have made him a little violent. Boo Radley is a sweet but sensitive man, he always wanted to see
people very happy and cheerful, but since he never had that in his life he feels kind of left out from the
group. Boo Radley will always a nice person, he had helped a lot of people without them knowing like
when he covered Scout in a blanket during the fire at Mrs. Maudie s house because she was feeling
cold, Boo also placed objects in the tree, he didn t mean to hurt them but just to communicate with

Social Work Essay
This essay will discuss social divisions; social exclusion and social inclusion, of which there are many
definitions and interpretations. Social divisions and Social exclusion has been around for many years.
Social exclusion was first noticed in France in 1970s in relation to people who fell outside the range of
the social insurance system, such as disabled people, lone parents and the young unemployed
(Townsend and Kennedy, 2004). Before 1997 Social exclusion was referred to as poverty , which
means where people lack many of the opportunities that are available to the average person (Palmer;
2010). However for the purpose of this assignment, it will focus on homelessness as a social division,
the relationship between exclusion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One interpretation of social exclusion comes from the European Commission s recent Joint Report
,which states
social exclusion is a process where individuals are made to feel pushed out and prevented from
participating in society, due to poverty or lack of education. This may result in discrimination,
resulting in exclusion from jobs, an income, limited education, lack of social and community
opportunities and possibly feeling powerless (Europa, 2003).
A structural view from Field (1989) and Dahrendorf (1987) who believe it is the structures in society
that exclude people. Another, interpretation from the Social Exclusion Unit London (SEU) states
social exclusion is a shorthand label for what can happen when individuals or areas suffer from a
combination of linked problems such as unemployment, poor skills, low incomes, poor housing, high
crime environments, bad health and family breakdown (SEU 1997). Pierson (2010) suggests that
poverty, low income, lack of access to the job market, low or non existent social support, the effect of
the area and the exclusion from services are all ways to socially exclude people from society.
Thompson (2010) believes that social location affects people s life chances, due to where people are
born and where they live, arguing that people have no choice/control over what position they are
within society and depending on their location within the structure

The Causes Of Abusive Relationships
There are many more abusive relationships in our community then we think there are. According to
the National Institute of Justice, 1.5 million women are victims of domestic violence. Every one in 10
teen girls suffer from dating violence (Chicago Tribune), and one in five teens who have been in
serious relationships say they were hit or pushed. Many people ask what an abusive relationship is and
what causes them. According to the Center for Relationship Abuse Awareness, an abusive relationship
is a pattern of abusive and coercive behaviors used to maintain power and control over a former or
current intimate partner. Abuse can be emotional, financial, sexual or physical and can include threats,
isolation, and intimidation. Abuse tends to escalate over time. When someone uses abuse and violence
against a partner, it is always part of a larger pattern of control. Many partners seek for control
stemming from low self esteem or jealousy. Research shows that children who grew up in abusive
situations or were victims of abuse, believe that violence is the only way to resolve problems. There
are lots of examples that show how the living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lots of times, people find themselves in this part of their lives but don t take any action to get out of it
or even find a solution to it. This can be because of possible fear a person has of his/her partner,
maybe getting hit for trying to escape the relationship. This is why it is important to get out of an
abusive relationship as fast as you can. The longer your relationship goes sometimes, the more control
you partner thinks he/she has. The partner might just think that they have more control over you since
you two have been together for so long. In the results of abuse in a relationship, it can cause increased
chances of suffering from depression, suicidal thoughts, and post traumatic stress disorder or
substance

  • 2. Similarities And Differences In Ancient Greece In this essay two Ancient Greek city states (polies) will be compared and contrasted showing how despite their differences, they both rose to become predominating powers. Ancient Greece consisted of many small city states, two of which were Athens and Sparta. Athens was considered the center of fine arts, music, and educational opportunities. Sparta was known for its outstanding military strength and tactical abilities at war. Life for a Spartiate was comprised of constant training and conditioning for war, while an Athenian citizen would spend much of their day pursuing what they wished. Although these two city states were substantially different, they both rose to become the two most predominant powers in Ancient Greece. There were several advantages and disadvantages to each of these two polies. Their societal structures were relatively similar, and their governments were exact opposites. Athens was a very artistic and philosophical city state while Spartan culture revolved more around the training of men for war and stability of the government. Spartans valued organization and stability, while Athenians comparatively valued freedom of choice. There were also huge gender biases between the two polies, and through all of this, traditions and beliefs have been passed down to our generations today, helping to shape the world we live in. To begin with the simplest societal structure of these two poleis. Spartan society was divided into three main classes. At the top was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare Electronic Mediated And Face-To-Face Communication Compare Electronic Mediated and Face to Face Communication Communication is evolving quickly, offering us more options than ever before. Cellphone calls, texting via short messaging (SMS), Skype, teleconferencing, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, and face to face communication all play a major role in how people communicate with others around the world. Despite how I may fee, face to face communication is the best way to communicate with people because a lot of things won t get taken out of context and their won t be any misunderstanding. People are now connected electronically to 24 hour news cycles, updates on all the movements and activities of friends and celebrities, and even, in the case of physicians, with latest research findings on diagnoses and treatments of illnesses. Even counseling has expanded thanks to the Internet where some counselors now offer group sessions via chat, or provide treatment via instant messaging and emails. Psychologists have expressed concern whether computer mediated communication (CMC) will help or hinder those individuals who may be lonely and isolated from others. CMC has definitely changed how we communicate with others and has had an equal amount of problems related to misinterpretation. When it came to choosing one form of computer or electronic mediated communication, I decided to go with texting via short messaging system (SMS) due to many reasons with the main reason is because in the generation I live in we are always on our phones ... The child sprints over to exhibit with excitement; he notices a red sign stuck the glass of the enclosure which reads, Endangered. Daddy, if the zoo is keeping the tigers in a cage in order to save them, when will they let them back into the wild to live free? Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding Never. It has become noticeably evident that zoos are not a current resource for the protection of rare and endangered species. Animals should not be kept in zoos, because they fail at the conservation of animal species, provide little or no education about habitat and the behavior of animals, and harm the animals physically and mentally. Primarily, zoos fail at the conservation of animal species. Zoos claim that certain species would become extinct if places like zoos did not exist, but they ultimately fail at the conservation of animal species. Animals who are endangered will likely never be released back into natural habitats ( Zoos: Pitiful Prisons par. 9). The Author of Captive Animal Protection Society states, Many zoos have no contact of any kind with any reintroduction program, meaning that once the animals are introduced to zoos, they are likely to remain there. The reports differ with regard to quality, comprehensibility, and relevance to practice (Mårtensson et.al, 2016). Furthermore, the studies may have multiple strengths and weaknesses depending on the research methodology they employ. Therefore, to establish a solid foundation for research on any subject and to prevent the replication of inaccurate information, it is essential that scholars critically evaluate the available scientific evidence (Mårtensson et al., 2016). The critical evaluation of philosophies or claims is crucial in the development of independent thinkers and informed decision makers. It is the only way of distinguishing among differing claims of truths and determining the credibility or trustworthiness of different viewpoints. On that note, this essay seeks to analyze two pieces of literature that try to answer the question as to whether the stimulant use is related to positive academic performance among college students. • 7. Film Review of the King of Masks Essay The King of Masks , directed by Wu Tianming, is a sentimental melodrama with many underlying themes, one of which is the theme of love. The plot of the film, the morals that it teaches, and its impact on the audience all revolve around love. The King of Masks centers around the old street performer, Wang, played by Zhu Xu, who is desperately in search of a male successor to inherit his secret art of face changing . Fate allows him to meet with Doggie, a young child whose role is heartwarmingly played by the child actress Zhou Renying, who herself was sent away by her impoverished family to join an acrobatic troupe at the age of 3 (Maslin, 1999). Another instance of this can be seen when Wang willingly buys Doggie new clothes although he himself was poor and going through hardships as shown by his modest attire and humble riverboat home. When Doggie falls sick and Wang does not possess enough money to buy medicine, he even sacrifices the family treasure which had been passed down to him through generations in order to cure her. This all shows that Wang values Doggie s life and wellbeing more than money and material possessions no matter how important they were to him. These events foreshadow the significance of supporting each other through frugal times, even if it includes self sacrifice. Doggie is shown to remunerate the old performer s benevolence later on in the movie following Wu s use of foreshadowing. The film explores the subject of mutual need which exists between the old man and the child. The old man needs someone in his life to cure his loneliness and a heir to inherit his art whilst the child longs for a home and compassion (Stack, 1999). Both of their needs are satisfied when their lives cross and they begin living together in Wang s small riverboat home. Racism In The Film Remember The Titans There are many people in our world today, that believe racism is a problem of the past, that segregation and inequality are expressions that are not relevant today. The cold heart felt reality of this statement is that racism, is even more alive in our world today, than ever before. Circumstances such as, Caucasians being paid more than African Americans for the same job and Caucasian police officers gunning down innocent African Americans and being acquitted for it, are just some examples of the racial tensions in our society today. The people that believe racism is no longer a problem in this world, are simply ignoring the recent and past tragedies of African Americans. The inequalities this minority group has endured, has caught the attention of certain groups of people, that are trying to bring change, by taking a stand for a solution. In this challenge, the media has been very effective, in not only bringing the problems to the surface but also in seeking to effect resolutions. Throughout our countries past, the media, and even more specifically, movies, have been a powerful tool in bringing light of many types of injustices brought onto minority groups. A prime example of a movie that presents some of these issues is Remember the Titans . EMDR Weaknesses Weaknesses and Downsides to EMDR EMDR has weaknesses and debated for being controversial due to it being difficult to support the signature aspect of the therapy, namely alternating eye movements as actually necessary to the treatment (McLay et al., 2016, p. 702). Eye movements and cognitive reprocessing which are deemed by EMDR as essential failed to make a unique contribution to the outcome of therapy (Rubin, 2002, p. 14). According to the Prochaska Norcross, The eye movements are only one form of bilateral stimulation and may not be required for the therapeutic effect (2014, p. 211). Hand taps and repetition of auditory cues are other alternate stimuli which can be used instead of eye movements. Early claims were made about EMDR having almost magical results that only one session of EMDR could provide treatment for clients (McLay et al., 2016, p. 702; Prochaska Norcross, 2014, p. 210). Furthermore, EMDR could be viewed as a simple variant of exposure therapy with a gimmick in marketing the therapy as something new (Rubin, 2002, p. 12). According to Perkins Rouanzoin (2002), EMDR is best explained by learning processes that subsume exposure and cognitive behavioral treatments (p. 80). EMDR has not been proven effective outside of PSTD. Prochaska Norcross explains that EMDR has not been studied thoroughly with other behavioral disorder beyond PTSD and insufficient data makes it difficult to determine its effectiveness in other domains (2014, p. 211). ... Kahlo said her art arose from three experiences: a bus accident that nearly killed her in her adolescence, her inability to bear children, and her tempestuous relationship with Diego Rivera (Grimberg 7). Most of Kahlo s works were self portraits, according to Herrera, she once said, I paint self portraits because I m so often alone, because I am the person I know best (3). I also am fond of the work because of its accuracy based on her actual image and how Frida Kahlo has the capability of panting herself without making her image look better by fixing her flaws. The Hybrid Sources of Frida Kahlo, explains what the author thinks Kahlo is trying to communicate with her self portrait. The author mentions how Kahlo could ve been inspired by a French artist. Zarobell says, It seems odd for an artist from Mexico, whose territory includes tropical jungles, to be generating jungle imagery modeled on that of a modern Parisian (Zarobell). The author then says that the painting was Kahlo s creation of her world, in this case, her jungle. I agree with Zarobell to a certain point, although Kahlo doesn t paint the jungle behind her as realistic as it could be, it does not distract me from the painting. I agree with Zarobell when he mentions that the painting is the artist s views or thoughts. Kahlo s jungle shows, this since she had seen the tropical jungles, Kahlo does what she wanted with the subject which differs from the realistic image. Francisco de Goya used texture and value to his advantage to create a realistic figure that contains mass. The illusion of mass is so well portrayed that it is almost as if the viewer could reach in and grab a fish out of the canvas and hold it like a merchant in a fish market. In addition, the way the fish are stacked on top of each other renders an organic rhythm that flows easily. In other words, the Golden Breams do not look as if they were in an artificial potion rather it looks natural. Overall, Goya used atmospheric perspective to create the sense of proximity of the fish to the viewer by modifying color, value, and texture. The overall style of Francisco de Goya was miscellaneous since it evolved and changed through his careers as an artist, however, his message to portray his standpoint and feeling has been there since the beginning. Goya s brush strokes would vary from slow and delicate to raid and aggressive depending on his work. The Philippines is composed of 7,100 islands bestowed with rich coastal resources and marine diversity (Balgos, 2005). With rich coastal resources, Filipinos made coastal fishing activities its main livelihood. On the other hand, tourism is also seen as a growing industry in the coastal areas. This has resulted in the degradation of socio ecological coastal areas in the Philippines. Because of this problem, it is important for the stakeholders to clearly identify its roles and responsibilities in order to make a sustainable future for everyone. However, if the policies are not clearly defined and strictly implemented, problems and issues, particularly with coastal resources, will arise. These include overfishing, destructive fishing, sedimentation and disposal of untreated waste, lack of integrated management plans, lack of enforcement, lack of community involvement, and lack of alternative livelihood options (Parras, 2001). This will not only affect the physical environment, but also everyone that depends on it and its resources for their livelihood. As environmental issues are a very broad topic to discuss, I will be only focusing on the current challenges being faced by the stakeholders involved in Tacloban City, Philippines (Figure 1). The Automobile Trade between Canada and USA Canada and United States Automobile Trade Abstract The Automobile trade between Canada and USA holds relevance to both countries and their economic prosperities. The trade between the two neighbors became more pronounced after the signing of APTA in 1956. Following that further agreements like FTA which later became NFTA lifted the tariff from other goods as well. This paper reveals how the free trade allowed America and Canada to work in tandem to import and export vehicles across the border and to other places in the world. The impact of trade agreement made the country s auto sectors and GDP enhance several folds. Canada gained a lot more from the trade as its economy needed a bigger boost than America. In the production of automobiles, America is the dominant player in making the parts where as Canada assembles it into a vehicle. The trade also paved way for Vertical Specialization as is discussed in the paper. The trade between the two nations saw a downward drift following the 2008/2009 energy crisis that majorly targeted the United States. Since the Canadian market is linked to America s market, it also became a victim of crisis in the auto industry. Despite these troubles, both the nations have attempted to stabilize the problems and still carry on trade and thus progress their import and export quantity as well. Roger discovers that the professor did not fully disclose that by putting himself in danger he would not actually save Kendall. These heroic actions actually sent his love off to another country with an evil man. Roger grew furious. While at the beginning of the movie, Roger felt no disregard for giving a man false hope of doing something good. However, now that the professor turned the tables and did the same thing to Roger he begins to fight for Kendall by stating that this is no way to treat a woman. This marks a major character transformation in Roger Thornhill. • 26. Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: For human populations, particularly people in the poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food. As a result, fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic levels that are higher than those fished. For a long period of time, several human populations across the globe have continued to depend on fish as a significant source of food and nourishment, which has contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease in the global catch of fish. Nonetheless, the links between overfishing and food security have remained largely unclear and uncertain. According to the findings of research, approximately 50 percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan, Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled by the significant increase in the demand for food because of the constant increase of human population. While the practice has remained a major threat to every fish species in the ocean, it has largely contributed to the large migrations by marine mammals as they seek to get the left over fish. Since the 1950s, there has been an increasing trend in the number of unsustainable fisheries, which is an indication of the global geographic expansion of overfishing (Coll et. al., p.1). ... It is one s opinion to place judgment on whether a certain type of religion is right or wrong . Essentially, religious beliefs boil down to the connection one feels within oneself. Whether that connection can be explained by nature or spiritual beings, is determined by the beliefs a person lives by. The most common religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Here, we will discuss the differences and similarities between Hinduism and Christianity. These two religions are the most alike out of the five previously mentioned religions. Hinduism is the major religion of India, and it unites the worshipping of many gods while believing in a single divine reality. Hinduism can be thought of as an umbrella of many beliefs. The Hinduism religion believes in many gods, each one having a specific purpose. Many of them are mentioned in the Vedas, which contains the ancient scriptures of India. The Vedas are the earliest sacred books of Hinduism, and its name translates to knowledge or sacred lore . It is said that the Vedas were revealed to holy men of the distant past, who transmitted them to later generations. GM crops are plants whose genetic structure has been transmogrified and improved by the act of biological genetic engineering. Genetically modifying crops involves extracting a gene from one organism and inserting it into another. The purpose of the genetic engineering is to either improve the structure of the organism or to improve their yields.
