Analyzing The Behavior Of The Fed Before And After The...
This paper will analyze the behavior of the FED before, during and after the most recent recession.
The analysis will begin in 2003 and continue through 2013. This paper will be divided into three
parts. First, it will analyze the economic situation the FED faced in the time period aforementioned.
Second, it will explain the FED s actions during this time period, focusing on various monetary tools
discussed in class. Third, it will explain whether the author thinks that the FED acted appropriately
given the economic situation. It will consider six variables: the civilian unemployment rate, the
personal consumption expenditures chain price index, the M2 money stock, the velocity of the M2
money stock, the effective federal funds rate and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this period personal consumption expenditures increased from 1.978% in 2003 to
2.504% by 2007. Personal consumption expenditures peaked at 2.852% in 2005. During this period
the velocity of the M2 money stock steadily increased from 2003 to 2005. From 2003 to 2005 the
velocity of M2 increased from 1.976% to 2.235%. However, in 2006 the velocity of M2 decreased
to 0.546% and continued to fall to 1.581% in 2007. From 2003 to 2007 the federal funds rate
steadily increased. The two biggest increases in the federal funds rate during this period
occurred from 2003 2005 and 2005 2006, respectively. In 2003 the federal funds rate was 1.13%
and by 2005 it had risen to 3.21%. From 2005 to 2006 the federal funds rate rose from 3.21% to
4.96%. The federal funds rate reached its highest point during this period in 2007, when it
reached 5.02%. The money stock decreased from 2003 to 2005 and then began increasing from
2005 to 2007. The money stock dropped from 6.974% in 2003 to 4.304% in 2005, hitting its lowest
point of this time period, but rose to 6.210% by 2007. The amount of excess reserves did not
change dramatically, but remained low throughout this period. From 2003 to 2004 excess reserves
decreased from $1,808 million dollars to $1,643 million dollars and rose to $1,742 million dollars
in 2005. Excess reserves decreased again in 2006, falling to $1,676 million dollars before increasing
to $1,879 million dollars in 2007. During this period the

Countertransference In Counseling
Individuals have a strong desire to be understood by others, yet they may often remain unfulfilled
(Kottler, 2017 pp. 273 274). Those that enter the profession may find an awareness in solving their
concerns and problems while on the path of assisting other people (Kottler, 2017). In view, the
journey toward helping others may lead a counselor to pay attention to acknowledging their own
feelings, self discovery, self assessment, and such self realization may, in turn, be a catalyst for
growth. However, a counselor s vulnerability of countertransference may arise if the counselor
transfers feelings to a client, which may be a response to the phenomenon of transference. Also,
being close to others situational difficulties may cause one to internalize other s problems. In
viewpoint, and in agreement with Kottler (2017), the boldness and the value of risk taking are
essential in a strategic therapeutic client relationship. Interestingly, working with children who have
emotional, behavioral disorders, while at times taking home the day s occurrences happen to help
me to discover new positive solutions and outcomes with quiet time to reflect upon the day, for
example. Subsequently, the reflections lend a choice of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A counselor must become vulnerable enough to leave behind some armor and defenses (Kottler,
2017). In fact, working through personal loss, as a survivor of domestic violence, a survivor of
numerous crimes, experiencing poverty, and undergoing a constant re victimization from others
and the judicial system has increased my resiliency and further motivates me to help others toward
positive outcomes. Therefore, my altruistic trait goes beyond life experiences alone. Most important
are the inspiration and experience of positive results that a counselor may experience for their
clients as well as themselves that makes the vulnerability and risk fruitful and

Research Paper On Pizza Box
Blake Truxillo
Mr. Fabacher
Chemistry
15 October 2017
Science Fair Research Paper In this project a pizza box will be used to make a solar oven. In the
solar oven there will be black paint. The black paint is to see if the oven will get hotter, then if
there was not any black paint in the box. He will put different amounts of black paint in the pizza
boxes to see if he can get the box to get hotter. He will also use foil to see if he can get the heat to
stay in the box longer. He figures that the more foil he puts in the pizza box then the less black
paint he will have to put in the pizza box. He figures that the foil will hold in the heat more than
just a lot of black paint would.
He will put just black paint in one box. He also will put just foil in one box. He will see which
one will get hotter within a certain time period. He will then see if he makes one with black
paint and foil, if it will get hotter than the other one that got hotter. He will have to test the pizza
boxes on a hot sunny day. He will have to test all the pizza boxes on the same day in the same
heat. How will he test the pizza boxes? He will take all three of the different boxes and put them
outside at the same time, on the same day. He will then go outside and measure the temperature in
the boxes at the same time. He will then figure out if the black paint or the foil box was hotter. He
will then see if the box with both black paint and foil is hotter.
He thinks that due to heat liking dark things

A Study Of Returns At Shareholders Of Bidding Firms
In a study of returns to shareholders of bidding firms in tender offers, it was reported that average
announcement date for abnormal returns was significantly less negative for bidding firms where
half of the board was composed of independent directors from outside. There was a positive
reaction from market after the announcement of poison pills when the board was composed majorly
of outside directors and negative when it was not (Brickely et al., 1994). Examination of the link
between outside directors on board and shareholders wealth provides significantly positive evidence
as on average excess returns are directly related to the appointment of the outside directors in the
board by the management. This suggests that outside independent... Show more content on

3.0Research Methods and Research Design
This section will demonstrate the research approach and design used to complete the purposed
study. It will also highlight the sources used for data collection, to analyse and evaluate the
evidence regarding research question.
3.1Research Design
This section illustrates the research approach used to collect and analyse the evidence for this
research. There are two main approaches to a research problem, qualitative research and quantitative
research. Quantitative is predominantly used as a synonym for any data collection technique (such
as a questionnaire) or data analysis procedure (such as graphs or statistics) that generates or uses
numerical data. In contrast, qualitative is used for any data collection technique (such as an
interview) or data analysis procedure (such as categorising data) that generates or uses non
numerical data (Saunders, et al., 2007). Qualitative research includes techniques like case studies,
interviews, personal observations and focus groups.
This study will be following a mix approach i.e. will be using both

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scientific Management
Frederic Winslow Taylor (1865 1915) was an engineer and most importantly an innovator who
affects the way many organizations function even today. In his time he introduced the term of
scientific management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and
workers are able to execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive
way in a mass production environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna,
2012, p.7). According to Taylor, scientific managementshould include the selection of the best
qualified people to work in a company, the incentives to work harder and as a result more
efficient by awarding them with higher salaries as well as the authority given to the managers to
control and evaluate the working process. Also, dealing with fatigue of labour force by
implementing rest pauses. Taylor believed that in this way, managers and employees would be
more interested in work and would try to maintain their high wages and as a consequence would
be more productive (Bagad, 2008, p.20). In order to make this theory feasible he developed four

One drawback is that distinction of planning and doing has a negative impact especially on
companies with numerous and specialized human resources. In this case, neither people have the
ability to be creative and constructive nor have the opportunity to take an initiative (Ghuman and
Aswathappa, 2010, p.135). Another drawback is that Taylor system can be described as an
environment in which workforce is treated as a machine and not as individuals who can influence
the production of the firm (Dutt, 2008, p.21).Finally, scientific management was largely criticized
by the workers themselves due to the fact that the efficiency which has a central role in company
s productivity lead to a decrease in demand for employees and made them insecure because there
was a strong possibility to lose their jobs (Singla, 2009 2010,

We have a few problems we need to resolve with our control procedures and documentation here
at Canyon Rental. These should go in affect immediately, some of the problems and issues I will
discuss in this memo can be very serious, and in long term, hurt the company. Below are my
suggestions and observations when I overlooked everything. Your purchase orders and sales
invoices are not pre numbered, this alone can cost you to lose items, or have items stolen. You
also are unable to have precise records of your stores sales, or help customers with returns or any
problems that might arise since nothing is labeled. Employees could pocket any money going in

The Theoretical Approach to Family Therapy
My theoretical approach to family therapy is very integrative as I believe families cannot be
described nor treated from a single school approach. I view humans through a humanistic and
existential lens but am more technically structural and solution based. With this integrative
approach, I believe I will be the most effective in helping families grow and reach their goals.
Children enter the world as part of preexisting systems. They enter parental systems and families
that already have rules, roles and boundaries, and more are made as children grow and the family
develops. These transitions can be confusing and challenging for all members involved leading to
feelings of fear, anger and even helplessness. Members within the family... Show more content on

My own personal experience plays a part here as I don t believe my family was ever fully
actualized. Independence and autonomy was stressed, however, warmth and connectedness
between members was not. Feelings were definitely suppressed in my household growing up,
and even today sharing openly feels awkward. Whitaker, as well as Satir, has inspired my
theoretical framework because I see the importance of the affective or emotional layer of family
interactions. The goal for therapy should be to create a second order of change. My therapy goals
are heavily rooted in solution based therapy. In this sense, the goal of therapy is to unstick people
from their current patterns and perceptions and help them discover new, concrete possibilities for
their immediate futures (Bitter, 2009, p. 223) Goal making in my eyes is a collaborative process
between therapist and client. It s the therapist s role to engage the client in optimistic conversations
about the present and future and guide them toward goal oriented solutions. This type of approach
fits my personality as I am naturally upbeat and look for the positive exceptions in situations. Steve
de Shazer believed that effective goals are: small; meaningful to the client; described concretely; fit
the actual lives of the participants; require in them that they are working hard; and start something

The Goal By Eliyahu M. Veldt
The Goal, a fictional novel written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, introduces the reader to a plant manager
of a production plant within the UniCo Manufacturing group, Alex Rogo, who is experiencing
consistent problems in meeting targeted production levels. Faced with an ultimatum, ta turn his
plant profitable in three months, Rogo seeks guidance from a distant acquaintance of his, Jonah, an
old physics professor. This consultancy introduces concepts that will constitute cornerstones of
Rogo s strategy to turn the plant around. These concepts are also applied successfully by Rogo in
the alternative story line of his marital life. When reaching out to Jonah, Rogo is to some extent
perplexed of why the plant is not performing as expected, he is instructed to define the true goal of
the firm. After contemplation, Rogo managed, with help of one of his accountants, to expand the
ultimate goal to make money into essentially three categories: to increase net profit, while
simultaneously increasing return of investment, while simultaneously increasing cash flow . The
measures, as outlined by Jonah, of this overarching goal were; Throughput, Inventory and
Operational Expense. Throughput refers to the rate at which the system generates cash from sales,
Inventory is defined as the total money invested in purchasing things intended to sell, whereas
Operational Expense is the cost associated with turning inventory into throughput. These
measurements as defined in the Goal differ in

Compare And Contrast Classical Conditioning And Learning
Conditioning and Learning The two major types of conditioning along with the two types of
learning have some similarities, but are also unique in several ways. Classical conditioning is the
pairing of two stimuli, whereas operant conditioning is the process which involves changing the
probability that a response will be repeated (Hockenbury, et al., 183). Observational learning occurs
through observing the actions of others. Cognitive learning is a behavioral change based on the
acquisition of problem solving abilities along with intelligence and conscious thoughts
(Hockenbury, et al., 183) . Different forms of conditioning and learning may be grouped together,
but there are different branches which cover different theories and perspectives. Classical
conditioningis formally defined as the basic learning process that involves repeatedly pairing a
neutral stimulus with a response producing stimulus until the neutral stimulus elicits the same
response (Hockenbury, et al., 183). Brought about by Russian scientist, Ivan Pavlov, classical
conditioning (also known as Pavlovian conditioning) deals with behaviors that are elicited
automatically by some stimulus (Hockenbury, et al., 183). A famous example of this is Pavlov s
experiment with salivating dogs. Unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned responses, conditioned
stimulus, and conditioned responses are the four principles of this theory. The unconditioned
stimulus is the natural stimulus that reflexively brings forth a

My First Activity Of The Food Pantry
My first activity that I was involved in with Catholic Social Services was the food pantry. As my
children progressed through high school, I knew certain classes or clubs were involved with
participating in food drives. Our house was one of the most targeted homes for quite some time
as we live directly across the street from St. Michael s Elementary School which is where some
of the organizations met. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and,
occasionally, the kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for
the food pantry and my children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear
jeans so they would raid my pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at
the time when I was pulling food from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help
others. I knew there was a need for the food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so
naГЇve in my thought process at that time. The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry
was a major eye opener. My role for the evening was to help supervise high school students, who
were sorting through the food as a community service project. When I walked into the basement
where the food sorting was done, I found several areas that housed certain foods. In talking with
the coordinator, I found that most of that foods had been donated by various stores whether the
store has a quota that is established for donations or if

Salmonella Typhimurium Outbreak Analysis
In the fall of 1984 in The Dalles, Oregon there was a Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak that
caused gastroenteritis in a total of 751 people. There were two waves of the outbreak, the first
being September 9th through the 18th and the second was September 19th through October 10th.
An investigation of the outbreak determined that the origin of the outbreak was from 10 different
restaurants and eating at their salad bars. During the epidemiological investigation, no water
supply, single food item, or supplier or food distributor was common to all the affected restaurants.
A later criminal investigation determined that the outbreak was intentionally caused by members
of a religious commune contaminating the restaurant salad bars. In the wake of the attacks on
September 11, 2001 and the anthrax outbreaks that occurred in the United States, a method
needed to be developed to determine if an outbreak was natural or intentionally released. The
open or covert use of pathogens and toxins as biological warfare agents can no longer be ruled out
(Grunow Finke, 2002, pg. 510). The events that occurred in The Dalles, Oregon further show that
such a procedure needed to be developed. In 2002 R. Grunow... Show more content on

It is in this group that we received a value of 0 for half the criteria, and one criteria received a
value of only 1. The transmission and the timing of an outbreak need to be reevaluated. If an
organization were to intentionally make a population sick, they most likely would do so in a
manner to make it appear that the outbreak was naturally occurring. Generally speaking, the end
goal of causing an outbreak, or any terrorist attack, is to not get caught doing so. Therefore, I
believe that these two criteria should be removed from the evaluation of an outbreak because they
put too much weight in to the natural ability of an

Taboo In Utah Culture
Taboo is defined as a social subject, person, place, or thing, prohibited by a social custom. In my
definition of the work taboo, it means that something is not appropriate in the culture I live in. For
example it is Taboo in Utah culture is to be a Democrat because most of the state are Republicans,
they look at Democrats and the think that they are communists. In my survey that I interviewed 10
people there was some surprising results and some foods were considered more taboothan others.
For example the number one food that most people would never eat was human beings. Eating
human beings is considered taboo because our societies stance that killing and eating our fellow
kind is immoral and is one of the worst crimes that you can commit. I also found that insects and
animals that we are closely related to have a stigma of being taboo in our society. After my
research I would have to say that there is still definitely taboo s in our society especially when it

starving was a little over half of all the answers. The second of the most answered towards the
survey is that they would never eat it, this result shows that the people that I interviewed would
never even considered eating that subject material such as human and rocky mountain oyster. This
result was around one fourth of all that answered. The third most answered question is that they
would eat it, this was the most surprising to me because all of the people that I interviewed they all

Baroque, The Era Of Baroque Art And The Baroque Period
Baroque is a style in art. It is an era of artistic style that used sensational motion and obvious, easily
interpreted features to produce drama, tension, and magnificence in architecture, sculptures,
paintings, literature, theatre, dance and music. Baroque art is usually very frisky and has several
ornaments.
It was between the styles of Renaissance and Neoclassicism. This means it began at the begging of
the 16th century (around 1600), at that time, there were absolutist monarchs in Europe. The
movement started in Italy. It then spread to the Catholic countries in Europe. Eventually it also
spread to the Protestant ones.
The success and popularity of the Baroque style was backed up by the Catholic Church. The

Late Baroque, c. 1660 1725 or later
The development of Baroque
The Baroque arose around 1600, a few decades after the Council of Trent, by which the Roman
Catholic Church was agreed that the representational arts, by that paintings and sculptures in church
contexts was healthy because it speaks to the illiterate rather than to the well informed. Many art
experts see this turn toward a popular concept of the function of churchly art as motivating the
innovations of the brothers Annibale and Agostino Carracci and of Caravaggio, all of whom were
working in Rome and rival for commissions.
The word Baroque comes from the Portuguese word barocco which means something like unusual
. In Portuguese, it was first used for irregularly shaped pearls, but then it was first used in France to
mean works of art that did not follow the current trend.
Sculptures
Some representatives assumed new importance in Baroque sculptures and there was actually a
positive movement and energy of human forms. For the first time, Baroque sculpture usually had
many ideal viewing angles so, that from wherever you stand you would see amazing scenery. The
features Baroque sculpture added additional sculptural components, for example, water fountains or

The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism
Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy
transformations in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration
and its sub activtys like glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce
energy in the form of ATP and a byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced .
Although the cell is not 100% efficient thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in
the cell each time when energy is produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured
directly by the amount of heat lost from the body in a certain period of time. Another way an
organisms metabolic rate can be measured is indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is
consumed in a given period of time. In the experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic
rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish (ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of
counting the number of operculum beats when three different goldfish where submerged in various
temperatures. What was found is that the metabolic rate increased when the temperatureincreased
and the metabolic rate decreased as temperature dropped.
Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy
production. Some of these chemical reactions involve cellular respiration by which is the series of
metabolic process by which living cells produce energy through the oxidation of organic

Importance Of Indian Cinema
Cinema is a great source of promoting culture, values and norms of the society, it shows how
exactly the people of that specific region are and how they live, think and do their activities.
Indian movies are very much popular in our country and movies are very much seen in Pakistan.
Bollywood is a largest showbiz industry in the world and one of the main reasons of great
influence of Indian cinema in our society and culture is because of downfall of Pakistani showbiz
industry. Pakistani cinema is going down and working poorly.
Indian cinema is promoting its culture through its movies and dramas, which are totally based on
Hindu folklore. they are influencing our culture and values by showing us their dramas and
movies which are totally based on their false believes and they are catching attention of our people
by showing so much fantasy , colors and glitters in their movies and dramas. In this way they are
spoiling our people s thoughts and also moving them far away to watch their own country s cinema.
It is believed that if you want to rule on a nation, you should capture their minds and through
propaganda cultivate your own culture in their lives by showing them your culture with strong
believes.
No doubt, it is the fault of our directors and producers who are not making good movies, there are
no solid concepts seen in new movies of Pakistan. Our youth is educated and know more about the
issues. They want to see good movies based on good scripts and well working cast.

The Inhumanity Of Nose In Gogol s The Overcoat
Even Kovalev begins to believe that this is something normal for a nose to leave the face of its
owner and walk around dressed as a high ranking official. Since Kovalev s nose is a part of him,
Kovalev perceives this matter as a matter almost about himself in essence the nose makes him.
This shows the inhumanity in Kovalev that his nose is what defines him, that he is not really a
person without his nose. Kovalev does not even recognize his own humanity. Kovalev holds that
lacking an arm, leg, or ear would be better than lacking a nose because if one lacks a nose then he
is not even a citizen and should be chucked out a window. This also illustrates Kovalev s inability
to recognize a person s humanity by saying that a man without a nose... Show more content on

Family Genogram is Similar to the Family Tree
Family Genogram
A genogram is a tool similar to a family tree that is used to track family history and family
relationships. Genograms contain basic information such as: names, genders, birth/death dates,
illnesses, social behaviors, achievements, education, family relationships, social relationships and
emotional relationships (Genogram Guide, 2009). This paper will summarize finding after
completing a three generation genogram of this author s family history beginning with the maternal
(Johnson) and paternal (West) grandparents. The general traits that were analyzed was the family
relationships, social disorders and medical issues associated with the family.
Medical Issues
The Johnson and West family health issues is mainly hypertension or high blood pressure (HBP)
for both male and female. An individual with a blood pressure of 140/90 or greater is considered
elevated. It is believed by the second generation, which consist of this author s mother and mother s
siblings, that hypertension was inherited from the first generation. The first generation consist of
this author s paternal and maternal grandparents. The third generation consist of this author plus
this author s aunts and uncles children. The third generation tend to be in better health than the
first and second generation. The third general do not have any high blood pressure problems.

Importance Of School Dress Codes
How School Dress Codes are Detrimental to Girls.
In many American middle and high schools, there are rules on how you must dress. The most
known of these are that boys must wear shirts and must not show their underwear, and girls must
have shorts or skirts be fingertip length, not show shoulders or bra straps, and not show too much
cleavage. The rules vary by school, but most of these rules are geared towards young women.
College and real life do not have dress codes. Employers have dress codes so that their employees
can convey to customers what the business wants them too, but dress codes in public high schools
are sexist and teach young women that their education is less valuable than that of a man s. Firstly,
most school dress codes are aimed at girls. According to the dress code of my alma mater, Lakota
West High School, there are twelve items of clothing that are not allowed that are directed
towards girls, and only 3 that are specific to boys. There are more that are unisex, but I have
singled out the ones that are gender specific. Why are girls the ones who are more restricted by
the dress code? Imagine you are a young man getting ready for school in the morning. If your
outfit doesn t have oversized armholes, dog collars/spikes, or drug or alcohol related messages,
congratulations! You re ready for school. Now, if you re a young woman getting ready for
school, your outfit must not show your bra straps, have sleeves that cover your entire shoulder,
and not have oversized armholes. Your shorts or skirt cannot be past your fingertips, which for
some girls with long arms means wearing jeans even in 90 degree weather. Your jewelry and
piercings must not be potentially harmful (it is up to the staff to dictate what is and what s not),
and your hair and makeup must not disrupt the educational process. (Again, it is the job of the
staff to decide what is disruptive, there are no set guidelines.) It s a lot harder to get ready for
school as a girl, which just adds more stress to get ready in the morning, and gives them one other
thing to worry about besides schoolwork. The reasoning I ve often heard behind makeup and not
showing shoulders for girls is to not distract other students. Since most

How Did Greek Mythology Influence Ancient Western...
Through written texts, documentations, stories, hymns, and art work history has been depicted and
passed down throughout eras. It has been filled with politics, fine arts, war, and most of all
religion. In ancient western civilizations religion was known mostly as polytheistic, which is the
belief of and in multiple Gods or deities, this compared to modern era religious beliefs which are
mostly built on monotheism, the belief in one God or deity. Three prominent ancient western
civilizations have been seen and studied to show origins of the same prominent Gods; these
civilizations are known as Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Of these three civilizations some of their most
prominent deities show similarities through the myths and legends surrounding... Show more

Due to Egypt being one of the most prominent and earliest civilizations this is a strong
conclusion. One of the most important gods/deities of Egypt was Amun who was also known as
the lead god or King of the Gods. His counterpart in Greek civilization is Zeus, who was known
as the leader of the gods. Also the pater of all of Mount Olympus. We see him as either the father
of gods or the eldest sibling of them, and controller. Amun Re was the god of the sun and sky,
comparing this to Zeus there is a similarity because Zeus was also a sky god and was known as
the god of thunder and weather god. We can also compare both gods to their depiction of the
ram. Amun Re had the body of a man and the head of a ram, while in a story about Zeus and
Heracles. Zeus did not wish to see Heracles, who was also compared by Herodotus to Konsu, and
so Zeus cut open a ram and wore the body and the head depicting him as similar to Amun Re. On a
side note Zeus can also be related to Mesopotamian religion through the comparison of the Hittites
gods Teshub and Marduk. Another pair of Egyptian and Greek

Causes Of The Fourth Crusade
Out of revenge and urge of desire, Pope Innocent II called for the Fourth Crusade in 1198. The
original plan was a military conquest to reconquer Jerusalem through Egypt, as Muslim held much
power in that region. From 1202 to 1204 the Fourth Crusade took a bizarre turn to the attack of
fellow Christian regions through alliances, poor calculations, and series of decisions with the goal
of sacking Jerusalem that ultimately led to the sacking of Constantinople in 1204.
With the decision of traveling by sea rather than land, six representatives were sent to Venice to
make an agreement of transportation. The deal included ships, knights, and horses with the
assistance of Dodge enrico Dandolo, ruler of Venice, for 84,000 marks of silver. Dandello, known
for his blindness and age, proved a major role and leader in the Fourth Crusade. Another leader

Alexius IV could not hold his own end of the deal with the amount of money in debt. To make up

Chapter 12 Assignment Template
FORM 12.1.1
Name : Bhavana Pilla
1. How do you evaluate this approach to workforce reduction? What (if anything) did Abbott do
right and what did he do wrong? What additional information do you need about the downsizing
effort in order to fully understand the process?
I think that Abbott did right by finding alternatives to workforce layoffs. It was good thought by
giving early retirement to employees over the age 55. Others like cross training and sharing
reduced the work on one person and improved efficiency. What he did not focus was did not
strategically look for other alternatives besides getting rid of older employees by offering them
retirement. He should of retained older people whose experience ... Show more content on

Else could have reduced the salary for all the employees for few months and this could have
motivated the employees to work more to increase productivity and to save their jobs. So proper
procedures to downsize with fairness all around or other plans could have been ideal instead of
discriminating and ending up in a legal suit spending more money than saving any.
5. Is disparate impact theory applicable to downsizing decisions? If so, create some data that would
illustrate the use of this theory of discrimination.
In disparate impact theory, the plaintiff has to show that there was discrimination done by his
employer. He has to show that discrimination was involved in his dismissal and not on the basis
of his performance at work. The employer would be charged by the disparate impact theory if age,
sex or racial discrimination is proven.
6. If prima facie evidence of age discrimination is found, what burden (if any) would Brooks
Pharmaceuticals have?
Brooks Pharmaceuticals have to prove that discrimination against these employees was not
because of their age. The dismissal of theses employees was solely based on their performance.
Failure by the company to prove the fact, there would be legal problems for the organization.

Essay On Fetal Viability
Countries, cultures and different societies around the world have different views on the question
of when life begins. Some believe that life begins the moment an egg is fertilized by a sperm
(Kelly, 1995, p. 65). In Great Britain abortion is currently legal up until the end of the 24th week
of gestation (BBC Ethics, 2014). Unfortunately neither side of the debate can draw much support
upon this topic and there is no definitive answer given from medical, philosophical and religious
theories and ideologies. It is all a matter of opinion (Kelly, 1995). The topic then begs the question
of fetal viability. There have been developments that complicate some of the issues of fetal
viability. Fetal viability is known as the point at which a fetuscan survive outside of the mother s
womb (Nursing Times, 2014). There have always been opposition surrounding the 24th week limit
from the pro life movement, they want the abortiontime limit to be lowered. Since the... Show more

Christians believe for example that a fetus is a human being that deserves the same respect and
acknowledgment as any living human being. (Acred, 2012, p. 22). According to the Roman
Catholic Church life starts when the egg is fertilized by the sperm. The Church of England and
Scotland allow abortion if it threatens the life of the mother. (Eggbrolen, 1990, p. 33). The
Buddhist faith teaches that human life begins with conception and abortion is going against their
teachings. The law of the Buddhist faith states no killing or harm should come to any living thing
including a fetus (Bacon, 2004, p. 16). Hinduism states that an abortion is forbidden except in the
time when the life of the mother is in danger (Kelly, 1995, p. 265). Islamic teachings state that the
soil enters the fetus after 120 days after conception and abortion is only allowed in extreme cases
and early abortion is preferred (Garfield Hennessey, 1984, p.

Wireless Networking And Its Impact On The World
In 2016, the majority of networking is done wirelessly. Advancements in technology over the
past ten to fifteen years has allowed us to network wirelessly anywhere in the world. There are
remote areas in the world that do not allow wireless networking due to resources being
unavailable, at least for now. The world of networking is continuously growing. I would predict
that with initiatives such as Facebook s WiFi Drone, WiFi will be available everywhere in the
world no matter your location. The term WiFi is a trademark of the WiFi alliance, a trade
association who promotes LAN technologies and certifies products. The term WiFi was adopted
in 1999 as a branding term. It is an acronym for wireless fidelity. Any device that has a stamp of
WiFi certification must meet the IEEE 802.11standards meaning that the devices capabilities are
compatible with other certified devices. In 1985, the FCC released what is known as the ISM
Band for unlicensed use. ISM or Industrial Scientific and Medical Band, is a radio band reserved
for all sorts of devices around the world that serve a purpose in the title s description. The ISM
reserved frequencies that are commonly used today such as 902 928 MHz or 2.4 2.5 GHz for
wireless use. Other devices that operate on this frequency such as microwaves, can interfere with
the traffic going across the same frequency. 902 928 MHz is only unlicensed by what the ITU or

a person wakeful, mentally alert, and at worst, nervous, the effect of tobacco was described from
the very first by reference to calm, placidity, contemplation, concentration, etc. (p. 107).
Schivelbusch also writes of the approaches in which smoking was associated to worker s rights

Coffee functioned as a historically significant drug. It spread through the body and achieved

Essay on The Function of the Articles of Confederation
Politics began to play a bigger role in the lives of American colonists during the beginning of a
growing country. After the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776, the country was
challenged with the problem of creating a process for governing the states. The Patriots were
concerned about forming a centralized Parliament, like in Britain, because power was abused by the
wealthy. Initially, the vision was to give states governing authority and leave minimal power to a
national Union. But as the years passed and conflicts arose, there was a need to create a national
government using the U.S Constitution as the blueprint.
The focus of the paper is to learn what led to the formation of the U.S. Constitution. First, it s ...

The bicameral legislative concept ran into a number of roadblocks. The main disagreement was
deciding who had the right to vote. Democratic Patriots wanted equal rights for all free men, even
those who were poor. In most states, conservatives disagreed and felt strongly that poor men
should not vote because their vote would confound and destroy all distinctions and prostrate all
ranks to the common level (Lapsansky Werner, Levy, Roberts, Taylor, 134). As the debate lingered,
most free men qualified to vote because they owned farms, but slaves and women were not given
voting rights.
Another debate centered on religious freedom. Most states supported freedom of religion in their
constitution, and with time religious liberty, without the interference of the state, became common
from state to state with the exception of Massachusetts and Connecticut (Lapsansky Werner, Levy,
Roberts, Taylor, 135). The religious controversy was aided with the passage of the Virginia Statute
for Religious Freedom in 1786 which was written by Thomas Jefferson. This was extremely
influential legislation because it became the forerunner of the first amendment protections for
religious freedom (The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, Online). The first
constitution of the United States was called the Articles of Confederation. It was drafted in 1777
and adopted in 1781 by the same Continental Congress that passed the Declaration of Independence.

Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico
Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico Imagine 2,500 to 68,000 square miles covered in 4.9 million
barrels of oil. No, imagine being covered in 4.9 million barrels of oil. Picture yourself gasping
for air in an ocean filled with oil. That is exactly what birds, sea turtles, dolphins, and other
animals had to do after the most catastrophic oil spill of all time occurred on April 20, 2010. The
oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico occurred because oil from the well shot up and out of the drill
column under high pressure, extended on the drilling rig and exploded (wikipedia) . The rig set
on fire and later sank. BP, Transocean, along with government agency employer, all worked hard
to avoid further spread of the oil. Regardless of their attempt, the spread of the oil to the surface
and shore of the ocean was inevitable. Therefore, all marine animals were affected by the oil
contamination in the Gulf of Mexico. Oil filled the blowholes and entered the lungs of dolphins
and whales. This made breathing almost impossible. One of the most endangered species of the
sea were also affected by the oil spills of the gulf, sea turtles. Turtles covered in oil were at risk of
breathing the toxins of the oil, potentially damaging their respiratory system. Texas residents report
that dead sea turtles continue to wash up. Although it is estimated that about 6,000 sea turtles have
been harmed by the oil spill, only 1,146 have been officially collected. I think that the most

he may now add significant action on climate change to his already sizable legacy. The triumph of

One example shown was when Billy worked and worked for two whole years
selling accessories to fisherman. After two years he finally saved up enough money to
buy his hounds, which was an excellent reward for hard work. An additional example is
when Billy took a long, hard, and hot journey barefoot alone to Tahlequah. He faces
bullies and is afraid to turn every corner knowing something unknown will be lurking
behind the walls but in the end, he received his hounds and was very happy for what he
accomplished but for the most part he was happy that he got his hounds. Another
example explained in the novel was when Billy got his hounds and he trained the and
taught them all of the tricks he knew. After hard training his hounds (Old Dan and Little
Ann) became the finest hounds in the Ozark mountain ranges. They went hunting every
night and skinned many coons. One more example is when Little Ann got trapped in the
icy river and Billy and Old Dan worked to get Little Ann out but all of that work was
worth the life of Little Ann. Finally, after all the hard work put into his hounds, Billy s
grandfather came to him with an invitation to a coon hunting tournament. Billy was full

Another aspect of diction that Stuff You Should Know utilizes effectively is simplicity, it is
important to keep diction simple and clear in order to create a sense of cohesiveness when
speaking which also allows the listeners to understand the points being made. For instance The
laws governing the regulation of cosmetics have not changed in any way, shape or form (23:45,
episode 1). When one of the hosts were talking the law in terms of cosmetic safety and how it has
been unmodified since a century ago, he uses very simplistic terms in order to keep his points
clear, cohesive and easy to follow from the perspective of the listener. This is important as many
podcasts do not give enough recognition into the importance of keeping your diction simple at
certain points in order to allow the listener to fully understand the point being made.
There were some negative applications of diction throughout some of the episodes, where the
diction was far too simple which lead to vagueness and confusion. For instance I wish I was into
the old mario whatever that one was the big world one (4:43, Episode 2) This is simply confusing
and incohesive in painting a picture in the reader s mind or persuading them to ascertain to a point
being made. The host of the podcast having used overly simplistic terms was a negative utilization
of diction as it distracts the listener from the actual point being made and causes sorts of disruption.
From the listener s perspective, it would

Hip Flexor Moment Lab Report
From cite{aus} and cite{childers2012measurement} the biomechanics of the hip is studied. When
we walk, during the initial contact the hip moves towards extension. However once the heel
contacts the ground range of extension reduces. With short stump it stays in flexion.
The peak hip extension occurs late as compared to a normal gait which is $~65%$ stride c/w
$55%$. This happens as an attempt to increase the step length of the intact limb when no prosthetic
push off is present. The work of the concentric hip extensor is to create the hip extensor moment.
This hip extensor moment is also seen to be higher than in the case of normal gait. This is
prominent in the first half of the stance where extension of the knee an d the hip happens. ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tendency seen is higher power generation in shorter period of time in comparison with
normal. The power required to lift a prosthesis may only be $30 40%$ of the weight of a normal
limb and it is this power generated in short period of time. The hip torque required during
preswing and early swing is observed to be less in knees with damping and stance resistance. This
is due more anteriorally aligned knee axis. This is required to increase the extension moment during
heel contact. But at the same time, due to this alignment initiating flexion in preswing and early
swing is a challenge.
During late swing the range of hip flexion is observed to be greater than normal that is at all
walking speeds. Also the amount of hip flexor activity was observed to be higher. These factors
however increase the step length. By keeping the hip flexing the extending knee can be decelerated
to reduce terminal impact.
%Some amputees with constant friction knees transitioned from hip flexion, to extension, to
flexion again, possibly to assist in knee extension by reversing the direction of the thigh.

In the PEW research North Korea was not included even though it is the most religious restrictive
country because the researchers did not have access to the specific, timely information needed for
their research (Pew Research Center 2012). Kim Jong II dictates the country, and demands god
like obedience from all the country s citizens. The government sponsored some religious groups to
give the appearance of religious freedom, but in reality there is no religious freedom whatsoever.
Worshipping in public or private, carrying religious material and speaking about religion is not
legal, and can result in systematic torture and imprisonment. There are an estimated 400,000
Christians in North Korea, of whom 40,000 are estimated to be held in prison camps. If one
member of the family is discovered to be a believer the entire family is arrested and punished, often
put into prison camps. Prison camps basically work the prisoners to death, through starvation and
physical exhaustion. The solution that the North Korean Christians long for is that all North
Koreans will become Christians, but they do appreciate the pressure the international community
applies on the North Korean government (Class 2009).
My Own Experience Why bother worrying and writing about religious persecution, Canadian
citizens are not persecuted for their religion? Because humankind is one, there should be justice for
everyone. And yes, it is true that in

The Anabolic Steroid Abuse Control Act was not passed until the 1990s. George Bush passed the
Anabolic Steroid Abuse Act. 10 years later prior to the Anabolic Steroid Abuse Act, Congress
noticed that anabolic steroid abuse was still a big deal throughout the nation high school athletes

George Crumb s Black Angels have influenced the birth of an American string quartet, the Kronos

of despair to spiritual realization. The first movement of this piece composes hums, low gongs and
slow sustained chord progression in the strings that were consistent throughout the work. Shortly
after, the soul torment depiction of the vocal strains appeared in the second movement. Star Child

Introduction:
As computer became more commonly used in universities and research labs in the late 1960s, the
need of having high speed interconnections between computer systems within a small region
generated a new interest of Internet development. The initial motivation for building such
networks was generally to share storage and printers, which were both expensive at the time. Early
Local Area Networks development started in the late 1970 s by enthusiasts and commercial
companies. From that time until the present a variation of LAN s design has been offered in the
marketplace. However, in the late 1980 s people began to recognize Ethernet as the flavor of choice.
The following report will concern only Ethernet.
The figure in appendix shows the basic physical layout of a LAN. As illustrated, a LAN contains
various data equipment that all need to communicate with each other. A data equipment could be a
web server, a printer or a database. Each data equipment constitutes the users of the LAN. The
communication between each device is accomplished by sharing a common Transmission Medium.
The Transmission Medium is typically some type of cable. This cable provides transmit and receive
capability and all needed intelligence. Knowing the physical structure helps us to better understand
the potential requirements when designing a LAN.
When it comes to design a LAN, not only

Slaughter s Essay Why Men Still Can T Have It All
Parthkumar Patel
ENG 101 142A
Professor Darlene Anderson
10/26/2017
Why Humans Still Can t Have It All? It is commonly known that it is hard to maintain two things
at the same time. For example, If someone is a full time caretaker of the children, it s hard to
maintain both work and family. This applies more to women because they are usually the primary
caretaker of their children and their family. Anne Marie Slaughter, in her essay Why Women Still
Can t Have It All, said that she had to put her work down to fully invest her time to support her
children. On the other side, Richard Dorment, author of Why Men Still Can t Have It All, states
that it is not only women who can t have it all, but also men can t have it all so no one ... Show more

Richard Dorment thought no one can have it all because everyone has to sacrifice something
for family.Although Slaughter and Dorment thought they couldn t have it all, not everyone in
this earth would have thought the same way they did. Some people might have been satisfied
with the way their lives are with work and family. They might not have a free schedule but they
may be able to come home when necessary. Someone might say that they have it all just because
they are satisfied with their journey of their life which is opposite of what Slaughter and
Dorment argued. If people believed and claimed that they have it all, than no one can say that
they don t have it all because having it all depends on one s own belief and mind. If someone
thinks that distributing housework is sacrificing, then it is a sacrifice to them. But if someone
thinks doing chores is not sacrificing, but it s just a part of everyone s life. If everyone start to
think that sacrificing is their job, there will be less people to complain that they don t have it all.
Having it all doesn t really means being able to enjoy life without sacrificing. Having it all
actually means learning to be satisfied with our own life life regardless of the position. If
everyone knew how to be fully satisfied even in tough situations, they are more likely to have

Religion In Hamlet Research Paper
Interaction of Mythology, Religion, and the Supernatural Hamlet is considered the most popular
and one of the most performed plays written by William Shakespeare that follows many of the
traditional styles, thus evident in his writings. It describes the tragedy of Prince Hamlet, the
protagonist, whose father is murdered by his uncle, Claudius, who then marries his mother,
Gertrude. This not only ends up in the tragic loss of his father but also results in the prevention of
his rise to the throne. On a dark wintry night, the ghostof King Hamletappears and reveals to Prince
Hamletthat Claudius is his murderer and encourages him to seek revenge on the man who killed
him to take the crown and then married his widow (Al Abdullah and Ramadan, 912). The leading
conflict of this story is the confrontation between old Hamlet and King Claudius as well as the
tragic dilemma that young Hamlet face. In telling the conflict of Hamlet, Shakespeare... Show more

Religion s critical role as a motivating factor for the characters can be evidenced by the fact that
it is referred to in multiple instances in the play. When Horatio sees the Ghost, and says, Before
my God, I might not this believe/ Without the sensible and true avouch/Of my own eyes (A 1, S
1, L 67 69). This promotes a notion that those who believe in God will not believe in ghosts. On
another occasion, Hamlet utters the most famous one from a soliloquy, To be, or not to be, that is
the question (Act 3 Scene 1 line 65). Throughout the play, Hamlet remains depressed and harbors
the thoughts of committing suicide. However, it is the Catholic beliefs that prevent him from
practicing it. This faith s belief that suicide is a sin deters him from acting out his desire, which is
a major component that determines the story s progress. The story will have turned out differently

Hollywood Whitewashing In Hollywood
The new term Hollywood Whitewashing has become popular among bloggers and critics alike .
According to the Wikipedia Definition whitewashing is a casting practice in the film industry of
the United States in which white actors are cast in historically non white character roles. The film
industry has a history of frequently casting white actors for roles involving people of color,
including African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and any other Non white, non Hispanic culture,
including Native Americans. (WIKI) Once you have your eyes open to this phenomenon, it is very
easy to see roles being switched in many popular blockbuster hits. It seems that in filmmaking and
storytelling, the story teller can use actors that don t fit the charactersimply because they are well
known celebrities. Specifically, the casting of Asian Americans in film, is very minimal and is
strongly apparent by the casting of Caucasian actors or actresses to portray an Asian character.
There are two movies in particular that come to mind when looking at the issue of asian race
representation in Hollywood. The first movie that I believe is a textbook example of
whitewashing of an asian character, is the Paramount Pictures production of Ghost in the Shell .
The other movie that I would like to address and pick apart in regards to miscasting of an Asian
character is Marvel s Doctor Strange; in particular the casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One
(a historically asian character). Are the

Substance Abuse And Its Impact On Criminal Involvement
This paper highlights how substance abuse, the lack of treatment, and how it plays a role in
continuous recidivism. I will focus on substance abuse and its impact on criminal involvement,
discuss whom this problem effects, and elaborate on how this problem is being viewed. In the
second half of this paper I will discuss what interventions are being used to address the substance
abuseproblem in the criminal justicesystem. Interventions will include: the establishment of drug
courts, substance abuse treatment [both in and out of prison], and specialized intensive probation
/parole.
It is commonly viewed among key stakeholders in the criminal justice system that drug and alcohol
use share a relationship with some criminal acts and repeat offenses. A study by Beth Huebner
shows that drug and alcohol use is widespread among offenders in Illinois (Huebner). A total of 64
percent of Huebner s study sample had previous substance abuse history, which is consistent with
documented national research (Huebner). Taking a deeper look into the nation s prison population,
it shows that drug and alcohol use will greatly increase the probability that an individual will enter
into serious criminal doings. According to The National Center on Addictionand Substance Abuse,
in 2006 drugs and/or alcohol were connected with 78 percent of violent crimes; 83 percent of
property crimes; and 77 percent of public order, immigration, weapon offenses, and probation/parole
violations (National

History And Development Of Law Enforcement
Written Assignment #1 In this essay I will be writing about subjects about law enforcement. The
first is the history and development of law enforcement, the hiring of, training of, and career
paths of law enforcement officers, and last the various styles and primary operational strategies of
today s law enforcement agencies. The history of criminal justice system has come a long way
from 1653 to where we are now in present day. America was built on the idea that government will
not be centralized. That is why the Constitution developed a government divided into three
branches. Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The purpose for a government divided into three
branches is to limit the power of the government. The same idea is what created the criminal justice
system in which we have in today s time. The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 limit the power of local
law enforcement, and restricts the government from using military personal to inforce laws on US
soil. Furthermore, another authority that limits the power of law enforcement, but also empowers,
is jurisdiction. Jurisdiction is what give our policeofficers the right to inforce laws. Each law
enforcement agency has its own jurisdiction they must follow. Political jurisdiction has three major
divisions: Federal, state, and local. Each political jurisdiction division operate within their own
borders, and only answer to the jurisdiction of their

Women s Influence Of Women In The Renaissance
The Renaissance is defined most simply as a time period of societies renewed interest in the
importance of art, education, literature and architecture. These ideals inspired many people to make
advancements in these fields and make their mark on history. Before the Renaissance began,
women were shoved into the background; they were not given many opportunities to lead their own
lives. This reform movement guided women away from the oppression of societal norms and
allowed them to form their own personas by becoming inspiring authors, arguing for their equality
to men, and using the societal situations to become inspirations to others.
In society in the 1300 s, women had integral parts in the running of a family and household. They
cared for the children and visitors, while also looking after their husbands accounts. This meant
that women were expected to keep themselves out of the public eye and behave according to their
social class. In the online article it is stated that, First a woman was a daughter and then a wife,
mother, or widow. In contrast, male roles were generally defined by social position or occupation (
Women In The Renaissance and Reformation ). This proves that women were held to certain
expectations and standards. These standards kept women under the control of supreme male
authority and did not give them the freedom to lead their own lives. Women were silenced before
the Renaissance period. Society told women they were to be respectful daughters and

Rocky Horror Picture Show Imagery
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a musical that takes place in the early 70 s, where Brad
Majors and Janet Weiss are on their way to visit an old professor Dr. Everett V. Scott. On their
way, there they experience some mechanical issues. This causes the two of them to wonder back
to a castle they saw in order to get some assistance. Little did they know they would be getting all
the help they needed. They didn t know there was a celebration happening at the Frank N Furter

In this analytical Essay I, will be explaining the hidden imagery behind things in the motion picture.
Throughout this filmthe use imagery to show how gender roles come into play. In the beginning
of the movie they are at the end of a wedding. Everyone is outside and watching the bride and

perks of being a wallflower. In the end of the movie all of the characters find out who they really
are I feel like that is something that happens in both stories. In the Perks of Being a Wallflower
they find themselves then part their separate ways. Sam and Patrick go to college leaving Charlie
behind. In the rocky horror picture show Frank and his friends help Brad and Janet find themselves
then they return to Transylvania. This film is all about acceptance and finding who you really are.

Desert Places Robert Frost Summary
Robert Frost was an American poet who commonly used images of nature in his poetry. The use
of nature in poetry is typically used to create a connection between humanity and nature. The use
of nature in his poem Desert Places , published in 1936, does exactly this as Frost, through the
narrator, vividly describes an open field which is covered with snow, and subsequently the
feelings or emotions created within as a response to the observations. The title of the poem itself
already alludes to the central theme of loneliness and death, as a desert is commonly a lonely,
empty and abandoned place. However, the poem itself compares the narrator s life and mind to
that of a desert. Through observation of nature, Frost explores the ability of nature to inspire
introspective thoughts of life and death along with self realization. Frost, through the narrator,
begins his narrative by mentioning that the snow covers the land and everything contained in
that space quickly and without reservation or discrimination. He states, Snow falling and night
falling fast, oh, fast (Frost, 1936, line 1). As he continues his narration about the landscape he is
viewing and about to embark upon, the reader becomes easily preoccupied with the sense of
emptiness and loneliness (Wand, 2013). The speaker mentions the field being almost covered
smooth in snow (Frost 1936, line 3) and the reader is made to imagine the blank, baron and
lonely state. Frost s description of the dark and quiet landscape is comparable to death and the
nature of this inevitable end of life event. This may be Frost s idea of how death approaches and
the effects and feelings contained within its victims. The mention of all animals being smothered
in their lairs (Front, 1936, line 6) shows that death is indiscriminate and covers everyone and
anything in its path. Generally, images of nature are thought to be beautiful, serene, romantic and
typically desired for all these reasons. Frost however, creates a different idea and feeling about
nature with his description of the surroundings. Critics of Frost s poetry view him as a skeptic who
regarded nature as an antagonist (Liebman, 1996). With this criticism in mind, loneliness and a
feeling of solitude is

Divorce Prevention Programs
Divorce Preventions
Marriage is not something rarely seen nowadays. Populates who have a decent relationship,
estimated to continue their relationship to a marriage. However, in the time marriage rate
increasing, the increment of divorce rate cannot be avoided. More than a half of all marriages will
end with divorcement. (Echols, 2010). Divorce occurs likely because of platonic relationship and
poor communication. This essay will examine those problems which cause divorce, and offer three
reasonable solutions to prevent divorcement in the community. Also, try to evaluate the
effectiveness of the solutions.
Nowadays, divorcement is a problem that noticeably on the increase. This issue happens right at
most of countries in the world. The phenomenal divorce rate among newlywed couples is a
serious problem that should be immediately addressed in Palestine. (Al Rub, 2014). Indeed,
romance is something that beautiful to most of societies. However, romance could also be
something that not predictable, in this case is divorcement. Divorce has adverse effects both for
women and men. One of the effects that caused by divorce is depression. Depression is one of the
most visible divorcement effects. Depression makes mostly people accomplish daily activities,
desperately in their life, both in relation to others and themselves. In fact, divorcement also brings
bad influence to children whose parents have divorced. Children whose parents have divorced are

Bodily Humor In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Bodily humor is a key element to one s actions, as certain movements or looks can paint a person s
whole picture. While people do not typically find themselves intently observing others in real life,
this is a key element in reading that they sometimes unknowingly are grasping through vivid, or
sometimes even subtle descriptions. In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, bodily humoris very
important if one wishes to determine the true intentions of the main characters, all of whom are
harboring either their own or someone else s dark secret. One character whose bodily humor must
be keenly observed is Roger Chillingworth, a cunning man who could be represented through the
humor known as choleric. Chillingworth represents the choleric humor throughout... Show more

In figure one of The Persistence of the Four Temperaments , the choleric temper is grouped in
with hot and dry temperature, which in this case is to say fire (Doody and Immerwahr 349).
This fits the choleric definition because it is described as irritable and unpredictable, and that is
how one would describe fire. Fire is also something often used to describe Chillingworth, his
eyes being said to have glimmered with a light burning blue and ominous, like the reflection of a
furnace, or, let us say, like one of those gleams of ghastly fire that darted from Bunyan s awful
doorway in the hillside and quivered on the pilgrim s face (Hawthorne 125). The light in his eyes is
described as a blue flame, which is the hottest flame, and that is enforced with the mention of
Bunyan s doorway, which is the pilgrim version of hell, therefore emphasizing his anger and ill
intent. Another instance in which fire is referenced also includes the idea of fire being
transformative, much like Chillingworth s anger transformed him. Anger consumes Chillingworth
much like flames would consume a building, which is effectively summed up when it says, This
unhappy person had effected such a transformation by devoting himself, for seven years, to the
constant analysis of a heart full of torture, and deriving his enjoyment thence, and adding fuel to
those fiery

  • 3. Countertransference In Counseling Individuals have a strong desire to be understood by others, yet they may often remain unfulfilled (Kottler, 2017 pp. 273 274). Those that enter the profession may find an awareness in solving their concerns and problems while on the path of assisting other people (Kottler, 2017). In view, the journey toward helping others may lead a counselor to pay attention to acknowledging their own feelings, self discovery, self assessment, and such self realization may, in turn, be a catalyst for growth. However, a counselor s vulnerability of countertransference may arise if the counselor transfers feelings to a client, which may be a response to the phenomenon of transference. Also, being close to others situational difficulties may cause one to internalize other s problems. In viewpoint, and in agreement with Kottler (2017), the boldness and the value of risk taking are essential in a strategic therapeutic client relationship. Interestingly, working with children who have emotional, behavioral disorders, while at times taking home the day s occurrences happen to help me to discover new positive solutions and outcomes with quiet time to reflect upon the day, for example. Subsequently, the reflections lend a choice of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A counselor must become vulnerable enough to leave behind some armor and defenses (Kottler, 2017). In fact, working through personal loss, as a survivor of domestic violence, a survivor of numerous crimes, experiencing poverty, and undergoing a constant re victimization from others and the judicial system has increased my resiliency and further motivates me to help others toward positive outcomes. Therefore, my altruistic trait goes beyond life experiences alone. Most important are the inspiration and experience of positive results that a counselor may experience for their clients as well as themselves that makes the vulnerability and risk fruitful and ... • 4. Research Paper On Pizza Box Blake Truxillo Mr. Fabacher Chemistry 15 October 2017 Science Fair Research Paper In this project a pizza box will be used to make a solar oven. In the solar oven there will be black paint. The black paint is to see if the oven will get hotter, then if there was not any black paint in the box. He will put different amounts of black paint in the pizza boxes to see if he can get the box to get hotter. He will also use foil to see if he can get the heat to stay in the box longer. He figures that the more foil he puts in the pizza box then the less black paint he will have to put in the pizza box. He figures that the foil will hold in the heat more than just a lot of black paint would. He will put just black paint in one box. He also will put just foil in one box. He will see which one will get hotter within a certain time period. He will then see if he makes one with black paint and foil, if it will get hotter than the other one that got hotter. He will have to test the pizza boxes on a hot sunny day. He will have to test all the pizza boxes on the same day in the same heat. How will he test the pizza boxes? He will take all three of the different boxes and put them outside at the same time, on the same day. He will then go outside and measure the temperature in the boxes at the same time. He will then figure out if the black paint or the foil box was hotter. He will then see if the box with both black paint and foil is hotter. He thinks that due to heat liking dark things ... • 5. A Study Of Returns At Shareholders Of Bidding Firms In a study of returns to shareholders of bidding firms in tender offers, it was reported that average announcement date for abnormal returns was significantly less negative for bidding firms where half of the board was composed of independent directors from outside. There was a positive reaction from market after the announcement of poison pills when the board was composed majorly of outside directors and negative when it was not (Brickely et al., 1994). Examination of the link between outside directors on board and shareholders wealth provides significantly positive evidence as on average excess returns are directly related to the appointment of the outside directors in the board by the management. This suggests that outside independent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This provides the evidence of characteristics of effective ACs that can enhance the quality of reported earnings. The recommended and improved management and governance structures lead towards better control and management practices. It will also highlight the sources used for data collection, to analyse and evaluate the evidence regarding research question. 3.1Research Design This section illustrates the research approach used to collect and analyse the evidence for this research. There are two main approaches to a research problem, qualitative research and quantitative research. Quantitative is predominantly used as a synonym for any data collection technique (such as a questionnaire) or data analysis procedure (such as graphs or statistics) that generates or uses numerical data. In contrast, qualitative is used for any data collection technique (such as an interview) or data analysis procedure (such as categorising data) that generates or uses non numerical data (Saunders, et al., 2007). Qualitative research includes techniques like case studies, interviews, personal observations and focus groups. This study will be following a mix approach i.e. will be using both ... • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scientific Management Frederic Winslow Taylor (1865 1915) was an engineer and most importantly an innovator who affects the way many organizations function even today. In his time he introduced the term of scientific management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and workers are able to execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive way in a mass production environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna, 2012, p.7). According to Taylor, scientific managementshould include the selection of the best qualified people to work in a company, the incentives to work harder and as a result more efficient by awarding them with higher salaries as well as the authority given to the managers to control and evaluate the working process. Also, dealing with fatigue of labour force by implementing rest pauses. Taylor believed that in this way, managers and employees would be more interested in work and would try to maintain their high wages and as a consequence would be more productive (Bagad, 2008, p.20). In order to make this theory feasible he developed four main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One drawback is that distinction of planning and doing has a negative impact especially on companies with numerous and specialized human resources. In this case, neither people have the ability to be creative and constructive nor have the opportunity to take an initiative (Ghuman and Aswathappa, 2010, p.135). Another drawback is that Taylor system can be described as an environment in which workforce is treated as a machine and not as individuals who can influence the production of the firm (Dutt, 2008, p.21).Finally, scientific management was largely criticized by the workers themselves due to the fact that the efficiency which has a central role in company s productivity lead to a decrease in demand for employees and made them insecure because there was a strong possibility to lose their jobs (Singla, 2009 2010, ... These should go in affect immediately, some of the problems and issues I will discuss in this memo can be very serious, and in long term, hurt the company. Below are my suggestions and observations when I overlooked everything. Your purchase orders and sales invoices are not pre numbered, this alone can cost you to lose items, or have items stolen. You also are unable to have precise records of your stores sales, or help customers with returns or any problems that might arise since nothing is labeled. Employees could pocket any money going in our out, and it would be easy to just lose money since you have no idea what money is coming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She could also easily be stealing from the company since nobody has double checked her work in three years. She could set the expense of a bill higher than what it could be, and incorrectly input things to pocket money on her own. • 8. The Theoretical Approach to Family Therapy My theoretical approach to family therapy is very integrative as I believe families cannot be described nor treated from a single school approach. I view humans through a humanistic and existential lens but am more technically structural and solution based. With this integrative approach, I believe I will be the most effective in helping families grow and reach their goals. Children enter the world as part of preexisting systems. They enter parental systems and families that already have rules, roles and boundaries, and more are made as children grow and the family develops. These transitions can be confusing and challenging for all members involved leading to feelings of fear, anger and even helplessness. Members within the family... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My own personal experience plays a part here as I don t believe my family was ever fully actualized. Independence and autonomy was stressed, however, warmth and connectedness between members was not. Feelings were definitely suppressed in my household growing up, and even today sharing openly feels awkward. Whitaker, as well as Satir, has inspired my theoretical framework because I see the importance of the affective or emotional layer of family interactions. The goal for therapy should be to create a second order of change. My therapy goals are heavily rooted in solution based therapy. In this sense, the goal of therapy is to unstick people from their current patterns and perceptions and help them discover new, concrete possibilities for their immediate futures (Bitter, 2009, p. 223) Goal making in my eyes is a collaborative process between therapist and client. • 9. The Goal By Eliyahu M. Veldt The Goal, a fictional novel written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, introduces the reader to a plant manager of a production plant within the UniCo Manufacturing group, Alex Rogo, who is experiencing consistent problems in meeting targeted production levels. Faced with an ultimatum, ta turn his plant profitable in three months, Rogo seeks guidance from a distant acquaintance of his, Jonah, an old physics professor. This consultancy introduces concepts that will constitute cornerstones of Rogo s strategy to turn the plant around. These concepts are also applied successfully by Rogo in the alternative story line of his marital life. When reaching out to Jonah, Rogo is to some extent perplexed of why the plant is not performing as expected, he is instructed to define the true goal of the firm. After contemplation, Rogo managed, with help of one of his accountants, to expand the ultimate goal to make money into essentially three categories: to increase net profit, while simultaneously increasing return of investment, while simultaneously increasing cash flow . The measures, as outlined by Jonah, of this overarching goal were; Throughput, Inventory and Operational Expense. Throughput refers to the rate at which the system generates cash from sales, Inventory is defined as the total money invested in purchasing things intended to sell, whereas Operational Expense is the cost associated with turning inventory into throughput. • 10. Compare And Contrast Classical Conditioning And Learning Conditioning and Learning The two major types of conditioning along with the two types of learning have some similarities, but are also unique in several ways. Classical conditioning is the pairing of two stimuli, whereas operant conditioning is the process which involves changing the probability that a response will be repeated (Hockenbury, et al., 183). Observational learning occurs through observing the actions of others. Cognitive learning is a behavioral change based on the acquisition of problem solving abilities along with intelligence and conscious thoughts (Hockenbury, et al., 183) . Different forms of conditioning and learning may be grouped together, but there are different branches which cover different theories and perspectives. Classical conditioningis formally defined as the basic learning process that involves repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with a response producing stimulus until the neutral stimulus elicits the same response (Hockenbury, et al., 183). Brought about by Russian scientist, Ivan Pavlov, classical conditioning (also known as Pavlovian conditioning) deals with behaviors that are elicited automatically by some stimulus (Hockenbury, et al., 183). A famous example of this is Pavlov s experiment with salivating dogs. Unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned responses, conditioned stimulus, and conditioned responses are the four principles of this theory. The unconditioned stimulus is the natural stimulus that reflexively brings forth a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As my children progressed through high school, I knew certain classes or clubs were involved with participating in food drives. Our house was one of the most targeted homes for quite some time as we live directly across the street from St. Michael s Elementary School which is where some of the organizations met. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and, occasionally, the kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for the food pantry and my children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear jeans so they would raid my pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at the time when I was pulling food from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help others. I knew there was a need for the food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so naГЇve in my thought process at that time. The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry was a major eye opener. My role for the evening was to help supervise high school students, who were sorting through the food as a community service project. When I walked into the basement where the food sorting was done, I found several areas that housed certain foods. In talking with the coordinator, I found that most of that foods had been donated by various stores whether the store has a quota that is established for donations or if ... There were two waves of the outbreak, the first being September 9th through the 18th and the second was September 19th through October 10th. An investigation of the outbreak determined that the origin of the outbreak was from 10 different restaurants and eating at their salad bars. During the epidemiological investigation, no water supply, single food item, or supplier or food distributor was common to all the affected restaurants. A later criminal investigation determined that the outbreak was intentionally caused by members of a religious commune contaminating the restaurant salad bars. In the wake of the attacks on September 11, 2001 and the anthrax outbreaks that occurred in the United States, a method needed to be developed to determine if an outbreak was natural or intentionally released. The open or covert use of pathogens and toxins as biological warfare agents can no longer be ruled out (Grunow Finke, 2002, pg. 510). The events that occurred in The Dalles, Oregon further show that such a procedure needed to be developed. In 2002 R. Grunow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 15. The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy transformations in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration and its sub activtys like glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce energy in the form of ATP and a byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced . Although the cell is not 100% efficient thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in the cell each time when energy is produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured directly by the amount of heat lost from the body in a certain period of time. Another way an organisms metabolic rate can be measured is indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is consumed in a given period of time. In the experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish (ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of counting the number of operculum beats when three different goldfish where submerged in various temperatures. What was found is that the metabolic rate increased when the temperatureincreased and the metabolic rate decreased as temperature dropped. Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy production. Some of these chemical reactions involve cellular respiration by which is the series of metabolic process by which living cells produce energy through the oxidation of organic ... • 19. Importance Of School Dress Codes How School Dress Codes are Detrimental to Girls. In many American middle and high schools, there are rules on how you must dress. The most known of these are that boys must wear shirts and must not show their underwear, and girls must have shorts or skirts be fingertip length, not show shoulders or bra straps, and not show too much cleavage. The rules vary by school, but most of these rules are geared towards young women. College and real life do not have dress codes. Employers have dress codes so that their employees can convey to customers what the business wants them too, but dress codes in public high schools are sexist and teach young women that their education is less valuable than that of a man s. Firstly, most school dress codes are aimed at girls. According to the dress code of my alma mater, Lakota West High School, there are twelve items of clothing that are not allowed that are directed towards girls, and only 3 that are specific to boys. There are more that are unisex, but I have singled out the ones that are gender specific. Why are girls the ones who are more restricted by the dress code? Imagine you are a young man getting ready for school in the morning. If your outfit doesn t have oversized armholes, dog collars/spikes, or drug or alcohol related messages, congratulations! You re ready for school. Now, if you re a young woman getting ready for school, your outfit must not show your bra straps, have sleeves that cover your entire shoulder, and not have oversized armholes. Your shorts or skirt cannot be past your fingertips, which for some girls with long arms means wearing jeans even in 90 degree weather. Your jewelry and piercings must not be potentially harmful (it is up to the staff to dictate what is and what s not), and your hair and makeup must not disrupt the educational process. (Again, it is the job of the staff to decide what is disruptive, there are no set guidelines.) It s a lot harder to get ready for school as a girl, which just adds more stress to get ready in the morning, and gives them one other thing to worry about besides schoolwork. The reasoning I ve often heard behind makeup and not showing shoulders for girls is to not distract other students. Since most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It spread through the body and achieved chemically and pharmacologically what rationalism and the Protestant ethic sought to fulfill spiritually and ideologically. With coffee, the principle of rationality entered human psychology, transforming it to conform with its own requirements. The result was a body which functioned in accord ... • 29. Essay on The Function of the Articles of Confederation Politics began to play a bigger role in the lives of American colonists during the beginning of a growing country. After the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776, the country was challenged with the problem of creating a process for governing the states. The Patriots were concerned about forming a centralized Parliament, like in Britain, because power was abused by the wealthy. Initially, the vision was to give states governing authority and leave minimal power to a national Union. But as the years passed and conflicts arose, there was a need to create a national government using the U.S Constitution as the blueprint. The focus of the paper is to learn what led to the formation of the U.S. Constitution. First, it s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bicameral legislative concept ran into a number of roadblocks. The main disagreement was deciding who had the right to vote. Democratic Patriots wanted equal rights for all free men, even those who were poor. In most states, conservatives disagreed and felt strongly that poor men should not vote because their vote would confound and destroy all distinctions and prostrate all ranks to the common level (Lapsansky Werner, Levy, Roberts, Taylor, 134). As the debate lingered, most free men qualified to vote because they owned farms, but slaves and women were not given voting rights. Another debate centered on religious freedom. Most states supported freedom of religion in their constitution, and with time religious liberty, without the interference of the state, became common from state to state with the exception of Massachusetts and Connecticut (Lapsansky Werner, Levy, Roberts, Taylor, 135). The religious controversy was aided with the passage of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom in 1786 which was written by Thomas Jefferson. This was extremely influential legislation because it became the forerunner of the first amendment protections for religious freedom (The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, Online). The first constitution of the United States was called the Articles of Confederation. It was drafted in 1777 and adopted in 1781 by the same Continental Congress that passed the Declaration of Independence. The scope of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No, imagine being covered in 4.9 million barrels of oil. Picture yourself gasping for air in an ocean filled with oil. That is exactly what birds, sea turtles, dolphins, and other animals had to do after the most catastrophic oil spill of all time occurred on April 20, 2010. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico occurred because oil from the well shot up and out of the drill column under high pressure, extended on the drilling rig and exploded (wikipedia) . The rig set on fire and later sank. BP, Transocean, along with government agency employer, all worked hard to avoid further spread of the oil. Regardless of their attempt, the spread of the oil to the surface and shore of the ocean was inevitable. Therefore, all marine animals were affected by the oil contamination in the Gulf of Mexico. Oil filled the blowholes and entered the lungs of dolphins and whales. This made breathing almost impossible. One of the most endangered species of the sea were also affected by the oil spills of the gulf, sea turtles. Turtles covered in oil were at risk of breathing the toxins of the oil, potentially damaging their respiratory system. Texas residents report that dead sea turtles continue to wash up. Although it is estimated that about 6,000 sea turtles have been harmed by the oil spill, only 1,146 have been officially collected. I think that the most memorable images of the ... • 36. Hip Flexor Moment Lab Report From cite{aus} and cite{childers2012measurement} the biomechanics of the hip is studied. When we walk, during the initial contact the hip moves towards extension. However once the heel contacts the ground range of extension reduces. With short stump it stays in flexion. The peak hip extension occurs late as compared to a normal gait which is $~65%$ stride c/w $55%$. This happens as an attempt to increase the step length of the intact limb when no prosthetic push off is present. The work of the concentric hip extensor is to create the hip extensor moment. This hip extensor moment is also seen to be higher than in the case of normal gait. This is prominent in the first half of the stance where extension of the knee an d the hip happens. ... The power required to lift a prosthesis may only be $30 40%$ of the weight of a normal limb and it is this power generated in short period of time. The hip torque required during preswing and early swing is observed to be less in knees with damping and stance resistance. This is due more anteriorally aligned knee axis. This is required to increase the extension moment during heel contact. But at the same time, due to this alignment initiating flexion in preswing and early swing is a challenge. During late swing the range of hip flexion is observed to be greater than normal that is at all walking speeds. Also the amount of hip flexor activity was observed to be higher. These factors however increase the step length. By keeping the hip flexing the extending knee can be decelerated to reduce terminal impact. %Some amputees with constant friction knees transitioned from hip flexion, to extension, to flexion again, possibly to assist in knee extension by reversing the direction of the thigh. ... The Basic Physical Layout Of A Lan Table of Contents Introduction2 Discussion3 Conclusion5 References7 Appendices8 Introduction: As computer became more commonly used in universities and research labs in the late 1960s, the need of having high speed interconnections between computer systems within a small region generated a new interest of Internet development. The initial motivation for building such networks was generally to share storage and printers, which were both expensive at the time. Early Local Area Networks development started in the late 1970 s by enthusiasts and commercial companies. From that time until the present a variation of LAN s design has been offered in the marketplace. However, in the late 1980 s people began to recognize Ethernet as the flavor of choice. The following report will concern only Ethernet. The figure in appendix shows the basic physical layout of a LAN. As illustrated, a LAN contains various data equipment that all need to communicate with each other. A data equipment could be a web server, a printer or a database. Each data equipment constitutes the users of the LAN. The communication between each device is accomplished by sharing a common Transmission Medium. The Transmission Medium is typically some type of cable. This cable provides transmit and receive capability and all needed intelligence. Knowing the physical structure helps us to better understand the potential requirements when designing a LAN. When it comes to design a LAN, not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Women s Influence Of Women In The Renaissance The Renaissance is defined most simply as a time period of societies renewed interest in the importance of art, education, literature and architecture. These ideals inspired many people to make advancements in these fields and make their mark on history. Before the Renaissance began, women were shoved into the background; they were not given many opportunities to lead their own lives. This reform movement guided women away from the oppression of societal norms and allowed them to form their own personas by becoming inspiring authors, arguing for their equality to men, and using the societal situations to become inspirations to others. In society in the 1300 s, women had integral parts in the running of a family and household. They cared for the children and visitors, while also looking after their husbands accounts. This meant that women were expected to keep themselves out of the public eye and behave according to their social class. In the online article it is stated that, First a woman was a daughter and then a wife, mother, or widow. In contrast, male roles were generally defined by social position or occupation ( Women In The Renaissance and Reformation ). This proves that women were held to certain expectations and standards. These standards kept women under the control of supreme male authority and did not give them the freedom to lead their own lives. Women were silenced before the Renaissance period. Society told women they were to be respectful daughters and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Desert Places Robert Frost Summary Robert Frost was an American poet who commonly used images of nature in his poetry. The use of nature in poetry is typically used to create a connection between humanity and nature. The use of nature in his poem Desert Places , published in 1936, does exactly this as Frost, through the narrator, vividly describes an open field which is covered with snow, and subsequently the feelings or emotions created within as a response to the observations. The title of the poem itself already alludes to the central theme of loneliness and death, as a desert is commonly a lonely, empty and abandoned place. However, the poem itself compares the narrator s life and mind to that of a desert. Through observation of nature, Frost explores the ability of nature to inspire introspective thoughts of life and death along with self realization. Frost, through the narrator, begins his narrative by mentioning that the snow covers the land and everything contained in that space quickly and without reservation or discrimination. He states, Snow falling and night falling fast, oh, fast (Frost, 1936, line 1). As he continues his narration about the landscape he is viewing and about to embark upon, the reader becomes easily preoccupied with the sense of emptiness and loneliness (Wand, 2013). The speaker mentions the field being almost covered smooth in snow (Frost 1936, line 3) and the reader is made to imagine the blank, baron and lonely state. Frost s description of the dark and quiet landscape is comparable to death and the nature of this inevitable end of life event. This may be Frost s idea of how death approaches and the effects and feelings contained within its victims. The mention of all animals being smothered in their lairs (Front, 1936, line 6) shows that death is indiscriminate and covers everyone and anything in its path. Generally, images of nature are thought to be beautiful, serene, romantic and typically desired for all these reasons. Frost however, creates a different idea and feeling about nature with his description of the surroundings. Critics of Frost s poetry view him as a skeptic who regarded nature as an antagonist (Liebman, 1996). With this criticism in mind, loneliness and a feeling of solitude is ... • 54. Bodily Humor In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Bodily humor is a key element to one s actions, as certain movements or looks can paint a person s whole picture. While people do not typically find themselves intently observing others in real life, this is a key element in reading that they sometimes unknowingly are grasping through vivid, or sometimes even subtle descriptions. In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, bodily humoris very important if one wishes to determine the true intentions of the main characters, all of whom are harboring either their own or someone else s dark secret. One character whose bodily humor must be keenly observed is Roger Chillingworth, a cunning man who could be represented through the humor known as choleric. Chillingworth represents the choleric humor throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In figure one of The Persistence of the Four Temperaments , the choleric temper is grouped in with hot and dry temperature, which in this case is to say fire (Doody and Immerwahr 349). This fits the choleric definition because it is described as irritable and unpredictable, and that is how one would describe fire. Fire is also something often used to describe Chillingworth, his eyes being said to have glimmered with a light burning blue and ominous, like the reflection of a furnace, or, let us say, like one of those gleams of ghastly fire that darted from Bunyan s awful doorway in the hillside and quivered on the pilgrim s face (Hawthorne 125). The light in his eyes is described as a blue flame, which is the hottest flame, and that is enforced with the mention of Bunyan s doorway, which is the pilgrim version of hell, therefore emphasizing his anger and ill intent. Another instance in which fire is referenced also includes the idea of fire being transformative, much like Chillingworth s anger transformed him. Anger consumes Chillingworth much like flames would consume a building, which is effectively summed up when it says, This unhappy person had effected such a transformation by devoting himself, for seven years, to the constant analysis of a heart full of torture, and deriving his enjoyment thence, and adding fuel to those fiery ...
