A Wall Of Fire Rising
A Wall of Fire Rising , Slavery vs. Freedom. Being a story from a short story novel title Krik?
Krak! Written by Edwidge Danticat, A Wall of Fire Rising in brief is about Guy, Lili, and their
son Little Guy, a Haitian family living in poverty, with Guy been an unemployed sugar cane
worker that escape the misery of the quotidian life by stealing an air balloon from which he hurt
himself, choosing a scaring death over the misery of life beneath (Abbott 11). In further, the story
also drives our intention on Little Guy, especially about his role in a play as Haitian revolutionary
Duty Boukman (who play a vast role in the abolition of slavery in Haitithat led to their
Independence). Thus, to not forget his lines from the play, we see him reciting them throughout the
story. Additionally, Danticat shows the characters, Lili and Guy have a conflict over their son Little
Guy been on a sugar mill permanent hire list. Edwidge Danticat illustration of these events could be
interpreted as a symbol of Slavery and Freedom, that connects the past historical time, in which
Boukman live in, as well of the presentone lived by Guy, Lili, and Little Guy in the story. To
begin, it can be confirmed that Duty Boukman was mentioned in A Wall of Fire Rising , with
being a role Little Guy must play in his upcoming school performance. This is shown when Guy
asks Little Guy about his role in the play, and as seen on line 10, Little Guy responds, I m
Boukman (Danticat 227). Knowing that, the question now is why does Danticat introduce
someone from Haiti history in a story that supposes to be about a family struggling with poverty
to maintain their daily needs? Foremost, let know who Boukman is. Briefly, he was a
revolutionary, a slave and reputed voodoo priest, who with his powerful spoken words of
freedom, in defiance of the French colonizers, help to spark a revolution that ultimately led to the
abolition of slavery and the founding of the Haitian Republic in 1804 (Chen 4). In addition, before
the revolt, most of the slaves in Haiti were more used to work in the French sugar plantation. Just
as mentioned in the Globe and Mail article titled Krik? Krak! By Elizabeth Abbott, in which she
wrote that: When

Evaluation Of A Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation
Clinical Cooperating Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Positive reinforcement
plays a major role in the classroom management plan in my cooperating teacher s classroom. In
this fourth grade class, students are grouped in groups of four or five who work as a team to
earn marbles. Each group has a marble jar on their storage shelf in their group where the teacher
will add a variety of different sized marbles. Students can earn marbles for following directions,
answering questions, paying attention, helping others, being a good listener, and many other
positive behaviors and good choices. Different size marbles represent a different amount of
tickets that students can earn to use to purchase rewards. Some rewards include a free
homework pass, lunch with a friend, lunch with the teacher; sit in the rocking chair during
reading time, or choosing a prize from the prize box. As I observed the class, I realized this
system works really well for this group of students. The teacher would give the class directions.
For example, please get out your math journals and a pencil. The teacher did not have to say
anything about earning marbles. All she did was gather a handful of marbles, begin walking
around the room looking for a group who was following direction and ready to work. Once she
spotted a group doing what was asked, she placed the marbles in their jar. She followed the steps
until she was out of marbles. Students were ready to work fast. The clink

My Learning Disability
If I was invited to an interview for a new job, I would choose not to disclose my learning
disability to the interviewer. Despite the fact that there are many upsides to disclosure, I personally
feel as though the cons outweigh the pros. Some of the cons include embarrassment, loss of
independence, and overall discrimination you may face from employers. First of all, sharing that
you have a learning disabilitycan be very nerve wracking or even embarrassing for some. People
aren t always accepting, and they may see you as someone who you re truly not. This ties into the
second reason why I wouldn t disclose my learning disability in a job interview: loss of
independence. When people find out that you have a learning disability, sometimes they

Explain The Three Branches Of Texas Government
The three branches of government of Texas: Introduction This paper will discuss about the three
branches of government of Texas. The government of Texas has its operations under the
constitution of Texas (Maxwell, Crain, Santos, 2013). It consists of a unitary democratic state of
government that applies the Dillon Rule as the County and municipal levels. The branches of the
Texas government consist of the executive branch, which consist of the governor, Lieutenant
governor and many others in that docket. The governor heads the executive branch and many other
leaders work under him/her. The executive branch system limits the power of the governor, but
does not do that to the secretary of the state. Elections of the executive officials are elected
independently and therefore they are answerable to the public independently and not to the
governor. In this kind of a branch of government I would have changed the power that the governor
has to appoint a committee that would solely rely on the on the governors decisions (Child). Rather
I would like that, that the committee members be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The house of representatives is consisted of around 150 members while the senate has a total
number of 31 members. The speaker of the house who is elected independently by the members
of the house heads the house. The legislature is a very powerful arm of the Texas government; it
also has a very strong constitutional connection with the Lieutenant Governor. If I were given a
chance to change something in this system of ruling, I would have changed the allowances that
the legislators are given for their mileage of 5 dollars to a value much higher because they have
many things that they are doing in the government. The indebtedness that the legislature receives
of $200, 000 is excessively low for the hard work of the legislators therefore I could change the
amount they get and therefore raise it

The Negative Effects Of Living Separately As A Married Couple
Living Separately as a Married Couple Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and
let him make her sorry to see him leave (Luther); When a married couple decides to live in
separate houses, the married couple may think it is peaceful, relaxing, and full of excitement;
however, that is not the case. When a married couple lives separately, the couple may enjoy his
or her freedom. By freedom, the writer means walking around the house wearing only her skin,
listening to music, and singing loudly even though it does not sound pleasant. From the writer s
experience, living separately from her spouse has not been an easy or enjoyable experience.
Living separately from a spouse has several effects such as financial burdens, infidelity, and a
negative impact on children. One important effect of married couples living in separate homes is
financial burdens. Prior to living separately, the married couples had two incomes. Rather than
paying bills on their own, the couple possible shared accounts and the responsibility of paying
bills together. The husband and wife would have to learn how to budget on one income. Before,
the husband and wife saved money together, but separately the couple could have difficulty saving
money due to extra expenses. Now since the couple is living in two separate homes, more
expenses are created; for instance, renting a storage building. Another result of married couples
living separately is infidelity. Since the married couple is living in

The Students For A Democratic Society
Description: The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was formed in 1959 after they
decided to branch off of the Student League for Industrial Democracy, which was the youth
branch of the Socialist League for Industrial Democracy. The SDS was a radical group made up
of teens and young adults that sought to overthrow America s democratic society and remake it in
a Marxist image. Many of the SDS key members where known as red diaper babies as their parents
were often members of the Communist parties of the 1930 s. The Students for a Democratic Society
s founding can be accredited to a man named Aryeh Neier in 1959; who would later become the
National Executive Director of the ACLU and go on to build two other influential organizations, the
Human RightsWatch and the Open Society Institute. SDS held its first meeting in Ann Arbor,
Michigan in 1960 where it announced its first President, Alan Haber. Haber was an editor for the
student newspaper at the University of Michigan and was known as Ann Arbor s resident radical .
From their first meeting, the SDS decided that they wanted to set the tone and introduce an
itinerary for their generation as they grew to influence the political world. The SDS denounced
bigotry, materialism, personal alienation, and industrialization in America and also widely protested
American abundance, the threat of nuclear war, military spending, and the Cold War. They publicly
addressed this in 1962 by creating what historian Michael Kazin

Islm Curve
Understanding Equilibrium in the IS/LM Model 1995 version Prof. Humberto Barreto1
Introduction: This brief work is designed to provide additional ammunition for the student in the
ongoing war against IS/LM confusion and ignorance. The author has claimed in his Notes on
Macroeconomic Theory (1995) that, There should be no mystery or uncertainty surrounding the IS
/LM analysis at this point. IS/LM curves are simply a short cut to finding the equilibrium values for
income and interest rate. There are two equations and two unknownsГ‘what simpler strategy than to
put them on one graph could be devised? (p. 52) The author still worries, however, that the student
is memorizing the equilibrium condition, IS=LM generates Ye, without really... Show more content

The student should see that the existing values of i and Y will have a tendency to change. The
interest rate will fall because there is a shortage of bonds and as the price of bonds rises to drive
the bond market to equilibrium, the interest rate will fall. The equilibrium interest rate, of course,
will be found at the intersection of the Ms and Md schedules. Output will increase because a
falling interest rate will trigger higher investment expenditures by firms. The increased I will
increase AD and, therefore, Ye will increase. But then the higher income will shift money demand
up, which will increase the equilibrium interest rate, and the same chain will be triggered leading
to a decrease in the equilibrium level of output. The student undoubtedly knows that, eventually,
after running through a series of converging loops, the system will settle into a mutually
compatible, or general equilibrium, combination of i and Y. If you think the iteration process is a
messy and cumbersome means of calculating the general equilibrium, or final, resting place of i
and Y, you should applaud the use of the IS/LM graph. In one quick graph, we can immediately
and easily see the system s general equilibrium solution. From our initial i0, Y0 combination, the
IS/LM graph allows us to instantly see the final solution and to predict a decrease in interest rates
and increase in output. However, a drawback is that it does not show how or why

Ecology Lab Report
Ecology is the study of interaction between living organisms and nonliving environmental factors.
The objective of the study is to determine the forest ecology of the Manor House by calculating
the density, size, and diversity of the woodlot (Biology 214 Laboratory Handout). Diversity is the
degree of the variability among the living organisms. It is important to study diversity because a
larger variability of within a community will promote the productivity of an ecosystem. In addition,
the knowledge of the number of individual organisms present in a population is important to
ecologists.
Many methods exist to quantify the numbers of individual organisms in a specific area. It is
important to chose a measuring method that is most practical for the sampling area. The point
quarter technique, developed by Cottan and Curtis, is widely used to estimate the area covered by
an organism based on random samplings on specific areas. The sample area is chosen at random
along a transect, relying on the random distribution of organisms in the area. From the random
point, the area is divided into four quadrants and the point to plant distance is measured. From this
measurement, species density, diversity and importance value can be calculated. Khan and his
colleagues (2016) investigated the discrepancy and accuracy of ... Show more content on

I hypothesize that the forest woodlot will have moderate density, size, and diversity. Before
measuring the characteristics of the woodlot, I observed that the forest was not densely populated
and the organisms were spaced apart evenly throughout the forest. However, I predicted that the
transects deeper into the forest, 50 feet, would show more diversity than the transects at 25 feet
because the forest centralizes deeper into the forest and is less disturbed, which results in a wider
diversity of the

Gemini Research Papers
Gemini is the constellation I have chosen to use in my essay. The reason for that is my zodiac
sign is Gemini, and it s the constellation I am most familiar with. Gemini is composed of several
stars, the most popular being Pollux and Casper, the two heads of the constellation. The greek
myth where Gemini is orinated from is of two twin brothers the stars Pollux and Casper. The
constellation is seen between the constellations, Taurus and Cancer. The myth of the contellation
of Gemini features the twin brothers, Pollux and Casper. Mothered by Leda, but with different
fathers. Pollux was a god, fathered by Jupiter was immortal, while his brother Casper was a mortal
human. They faught in the Trojan War to bring their sister back to her husband. The brother s were
often depicted as riding twin white horses and armed with spears. Then, when Casper died, as all

Fission Vs Nuclear
There are many ways to fuel the world s needs for electrical power, but we acquire our needs
mostly from three energy sources: coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy (Cravens, 11). Yet from
fossil fuels the emission of carbon dioxide (~1400 grams COв‚‚ equivalent per kWh) and toxic
waste produced from the burning of aforementioned fossil fuels kills more than 20,000
Americans annually (Cravens, 13), while nuclear energy (and its outputs) have not killed a
single human (as it is rather human error that is the cause of the loss of life). One must also note
the fact that if an American received all of his or her electricity from fossil fuels over a lifespan of
about 75 years, that person s pile of waste would weigh 68.5 tons compared to the two... Show more

In 2013, a study conducted by NASA shows that nuclear energy has prevented 1.84 million
deaths from 1971 to 2009 with an average of 79,000 deaths (prevented)/ year from 2000 to 2009
(Kharecha and Hansen, 3). Even if one were to include the death tolls from both Chernobyl and
Fukushima, nuclear energy ranks last in death per unit generated per year (see fig. 2). And
although nuclear waste is toxic and harmful to humans (as it can cause cancer and death), it is
usually stored in a safe location away from other resources and most importantly, away from
humans. On the other hand, the toxic byproducts of fossil fuels are being released into the air
every day. And by reducing the amount of fossil fuels burned, countless cases of cancer and lung
disease as well as coal mining accidents have been avoided. For as long as nations use fossil fuels,
nuclear energy saves much more lives than it

A Brief Foray Into Philosophy and the Cognitive Sciences Modern physics is divided by two
descriptions of the universe: the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. Many physicists
have faith that at some point a Grand Unified Theory will be developed which will provide a
unified description of the universe from subatomic particles to the movement of the planets. Like
in physics, the cognitive sciences can describe the brain at different levels of abstraction. For
example, neurobiologists study brain function at the level of neurons while psychologists look
for the laws describing behavior and cognitive mechanisms. Also like in physics, many in these
fields believe that it is possible that one day we will be able to understand complicated behaviors
in terms of neuronal mechanisms. Others believe that this unification isn t possible even in theory
because there is some metaphysical quality to consciousness that transcends neural firing patterns.
Even if consciousness can t be described by a Grand Unified Theory of the cognitive sciences, it
is apparent that many of our cognitive mechanisms and behaviors can. While research on the level
of neurons and psychological mechanisms is fairly well developed, the area in between these is
rather murky. Some progress has been made however. Cognitive scientists have been able to

Psychology Of The Piece Of Literature
Psychoanalysis is a type of criticism focused on the psychology of the piece of literature.
Through the analysis of the psychology behind a work, a conclusion can be made about it s
meaning. Psychoanalysis plays a huge role in the play Hamlet. In Hamlet, William Shakespeare
utilizes id, ego, superego, the oedipal complex, and depression to show how Old King Hamlets
murder and Gertrude s marriage to Claudius causes Hamlet to eventually go mad.
Sigmund Freud coined the term Oedipal Complex to describe a phenomenon he observed where
the child has sexual feelings of desire for the parent of the opposite gender and has feelings of
hostility and jealously towards the parent of the same sex. The child feels as if they are in a
competition with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this fear, the boy develops castration anxiety. Since the father is receiving the attention
of the mother, the boy then sets out to become like the father. He imitates and partakes in dad type
behaviors. This act is referred to as identification and how the boy gets over the Oedipal Complex.
This phenomenon is shown through the play Hamlet. Hamlet is extremely jealous of the attention
that his mother, Gertrude, has shown to both his father, Old King Hamlet, and his uncle and new
step father, Claudius. Hamlet says,
Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him
As if increase of appetite had grown
By what it fed on, and yet, within a month
Let me not think on t. Frailty, thy name is woman!
A little month, or ere those shoes were old
With which she followed my poor father s body,
Like Niobe, all tears. Why she, even she
O God, a beast that wants discourse of reason
Would have mourned longer married with my uncle (Act I, scene ii, lines 143 153)
What Hamlet is saying in modern English, is that he does not want to remember that. His mother
would hang on to him (Old King Hamlet) and the more she was with him, the more she wanted of
him. But even though she could not get enough of Old King Hamlet when he was alive, she barely
even mourned. She was almost immediately married to Claudius. This quote from Hamlet is
showing how jealous he is of his mother and her affection towards both his

Fan Identity
One of the main points of discussion is the idea of the fanatic itself and how fandom is an
accepted mode of obsession in the contemporary world. Much of the discourse on the subject deals
with the complex psychology of the word through anthropological and psychoanalytical work on
what it means to be a fanthe mixture of reverence for their object of affection, but also the
embarrassment of being associated with what some might deem as crazy or superficial. The
definition of fan has altered over time, with it becoming increasingly negative. Many fans even shy
away from calling themselves that, or separate their fandomidentity (often found online) with their
real life identity. While much has been written in the beginning of fandom

The Functions of the Veil for Muslims
The Functions of the Veil
The practice of veiling has been a topic of controversy amongst several Muslim and non Muslim
scholars (Ruby, 2006). The new hijab phenomenon originated in Cairo approximately two
decades ago. Although not a common practice in Cairo, by the year 2000 over 80% of women
adopted some form of veiling. The practice of veiling has also been embraced by several other
Muslim societies around the world (Carvalho, 2013). The Western world has associated veiling
as a form of oppression, gender inequality, and has been an object of pity and fear (Bullock, 2007
Haleh, 2008). However, these stereotypes are not always reflective of the many who do wear it
(Bullock, 2007).
Two articles will be critically reviewed. The first article, Islam and Body Politics: Inscribing
(Im)morality, was presented by politics professor Asma Barlas at the Conference on Religion and
Politics in the University of Iceland. This article confronts the beliefs that the world has about
Islam, women and veiling, and criticizes the blasphemy of Islamic religious figure, Prophet
Muhammad. The second article, Meanings of modesty and the hijab amongst Muslim women in
Glasgow, Scotland, is written by sociologist Asifa Siraj. This paper investigates the significance of
modesty and hijab by interviewing thirty Muslim women in Glasgow, Scotland. These articles
reflect the autonomy and empowerment that Muslim women experience through the hijab by
providing a sense of identity, as well as a way to

Richard Scrushy and HealthSouth Essay
Introduction HealthSouth is one of the nation s largest healthcare providers specializing in
rehabilitation. HealthSouth was founded by Richard M. Scrushy in 1984 and went public in 1986.
Scrushy served as its Chairman of the Board from 1994 to 2002. The company was incorporated in
January 1984 as Amcare Inc. before its name was changed to HealthSouthRehabilitation
Corporation in May 1985. In January of 2003, Mr. Scrushy reassumed the position of CEO.
HealthSouth grew rapidly during the 1980 s and 1990 s. This growth was largely due to
acquisitions. HealthSouth owned more than 330 hospitals worldwide. It was also during this time

The charges included conspiracy, money laundering, obstruction of justice and perjury (Johnson

behavior in Mr. Scrushy? Perhaps what we need is a scale for measuring the moral development
or character of the officers to whom the financial status and reports of the company are entrusted
(Jennings, 2005, p. 44 45). One measurement that can be used is a look into their personal lives.
An evaluation of the private conduct of the executive can often prove to be insightful and a
predictor of future behaviors. How we treat those who are the closest to us and, at least in theory,
the most important is telling (Jennings, 2005, p.45). Mr. Scrushy was married to wife number three
and is the father of eight children by three different women. Impact on Stakeholders
Richard Scrushy s management style was one that fostered intimidation and fear amongst his
employees. The weekly Monday morning meetings were often called Monday morning beatings
when the actual budget numbers did not meet the forecasted expectations. Every Monday morning
he grilled his division chiefs on the profits in their areas of responsibility and publicly berated any
subordinate who failed to meet his expectations (Solieri, Felo Hodowanitz, 2008, p. 342).

My Experience Of Playing Basketball
The first time I played basketball was like the first time finding myself. I started playing basketball
when I was very young and I fell in love with it. I was really really good from a young age, I had an
innate ability to play basketball. I had fun dribbling and doing all the dirty work, I liked the running
and playing defense I loved every aspect of the game. The first experience I remembered was when
I was in 4th grade and it was the champion ship game against Lakeland. Lakeland was always super
good and before this game we never have gotten even close to them in score. This game was
different. It was 32 28 our lead and we had 2 mins left. I remember Lakeland only had one good
player and I was guarding him, it was the hardest challenge of my life because this kid was the best.
I was guarding him and he shot a 3 and somehow it went in so now the score was 32 31 with about
a minute left. We had the ball and we were dribbling up the court but somehow, they got the ball
back and scored so now the score was 33 32 their lead. My coach (my step dad) calls a time out and
brings us together and says now boys this is the closest we have ever gotten to beating this team so
let s not let it slip away everyone looked at each other and we knew we had to do something. So,
we made a play so I could score to win the game. I was so nervous; the play was called 2 . the play
would start at the top of the key and I would have to run up to the elbow and then someone
would come and pick for me and I would do a back door. We tried the play in practice a couple days
prior to this game but we never put it in action. So, the time out ended and we went back on the
court. my heart was beating and my legs were shaking. So, we bring up the ball and we all get in
position, now there is about 40 seconds on the clock and we wait a little bit before we start the
play to take some time off the clock. But then finally the point guard yells out 2 and my heart
drops even more. but I do what I m supposed to and pop up and then here comes the screen. I set
my guy up the cut back door. I got a perfect pass from my team mate and I go up for the shot and I
get hammered. Someone fouled me really hard and I fell and I had no idea if it went

The Stono Rebellion And The Salem Witch Trials
Rebellions have played a pivotal role throughout the creation of civilization, impacting the eventual
outcomes of cultures. While analyzing significant rebellions within the American colonies, one
aspect persists throughout: one culture s assumption that it is superior to another, prompting an
attempt to impose that group s cultureand way of life over the other. In Metacom s War, the Stono
Rebellion, and the Salem Witch Trials, that common theme is evident and corresponds to Bailyn s
quote, It was the intermingling of [barbarity] and developing civilization that is the central
characteristic of the world that was emerging in America. However, the question remains: who are
the barbarians and who are the civilized? In each of the rebellions there is a clear historical
tendency to label groups; indeed, it must be noted that viewpoint is of utmost importance when
evaluating such events, if one is to truly understand the plight of the barbarianand the civilized.
That said, by dissecting the quote, and analyzing these three events, it is clear that each rebellion
was the result of cultural ignorance and, as a consequence, a sort of death occurred in each culture
for Metacom s war, culture and tradition, for Stono, African freedom, and for Salem, the Puritan
utopia.
In order to fully comprehend the historical implications, it is necessary to first discuss the language
which the quote uses and analyze how it applies to each of the three rebellions more specifically, the

home. If a movie scene is not appropriate for a child, then they have the choice of fast forwarding
it or stopping the movie whereas one does not have that choice in the theater. Movie theaters
make it more difficult on parent s pockets by having a huge variety and display of goodies for
children. The food items are overly priced in a theater and that could be a big dent in the pocket if
added on to the price of entrance ticket.
Some theaters give people and option to go movie hopping where one can see as many movies
with one theater entrance purchase. This is very economical for people who wait for all their
favorite movies to accumulate and watch all of them together in day. This is difficult to do if one
wants to wait for the television channels to telecast them.
There is a broad variety of types of theaters available conventional theaters, IMAX and drive in s.
Going to a theater is a good change for a person in contrast to watching it at home. Theaters are a
popular dating spot for person any age. One can choose between the types of theater one wants to

options. One does not even have to spend extra money on special glasses or other accessories

My Family Essay
I grew up in a small family in India. There were a plenty of things that I was able to learn from
my family. I wouldn t be here, where I am now, without my family. Family defines the most
important things in this world. Family is the place where everyone can learn and express the things
they learn. I m grateful for my family. But I still remember the time my parents told me that we
are going to America, the land of dreams. I was only thirteen years old then. All those years, I
lived in my own country, and quickly moving to America was really hard for me. When I came to

Recollecting a moment without my family is hard because they were always there for me. I
never had to solve a problem in my family due to it being so perfect for me. In a society, there
would be many struggles and difficulties in families, but I believe family is something that holds us.
It was very difficult for me to accept the reality that I can t have the life I had in India. So, that
transformation of the new lifestyle was extremely hard. Holy Family University also states, A
community united by a common mission. Even though family should be united in one; my
family wasn t able to stay unite because of the different lifestyle in America. But throughout this
semester at Holy Family University, I am able to see how supportive and caring each faculty and
staffs are. They are just a reflection of a family. The problem I am having with my family from
the time we moved to America is the lack of communication because of the busy lifestyle here.
Most of the nights we go to bed without seeing or talk to each other. But, on Saturdays and
Sundays, thankfully, we try our best to give time for each other before going to bed. Societies are
facing numerous divorces every day. I would say, the lack of communication is the main reason for
all these divorces.
Every generation has different concepts on everything and their lifestyle changes too. People go

Essay about Teen Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is a major problem in the United States. There are significantly more teenage
pregnancies in the United States than all other developing countries (Cleo Moore, 1995).
According to The Complete and Authoritative Guide: Caring for Your Teenager, out of every five
women under twenty, two will become pregnant. Teen pregnancy rates have increased 23% from
1972 to 1990 (Napier, 1997) In order to come to a solution it is important to examine why teenage
pregnancy is so high in the United States. When analyzing teen pregnancy, an effective way to get
to the root of the problem is using the critical component of the sociological imagination. Critically,
the two most prevalent ways to look at teen pregnancy are through a... Show more content on

Liberals believe socioeconomic status is a factor in teen pregnancy. They want to put a stop to
blaming the youth. Liberals understand it is time to examine why some teens want to become
parents. When teens don t see a successful future for themselves, getting pregnant isn t that bad of
an option. Factors in teen pregnancy are a perception of unattainable goals, and lack of educational
and occupational prospects, both prevailing in poor communities. Dash (1989) concluded that child
rearing provides a tangible economic and psychological asset for black teens whose future
prospects are bleak. There are more African Americans living in extreme povertythan Latinos and
Whites (Ralley, pg#). In the journal article, Internal Poverty and Teen Pregnancy, the life options

that doors are open to them, it is perhaps difficult for them to see teen pregnancy as closing any

expectations of educational attainment and likelihood they would graduate high school, compared

Myrtle Rust Research Paper
It came, It saw, It conquered The battle lines had been drawn and it had been around for about
two years before its first outbreak was witnessed on April 23, 2010 on the coast of New South
Wales. The march then continued to the next targets Victoria and Queensland. Over the course
of three years, it has become one of the biggest biosecurity threats to Australia s ecosystem. This
alien intruder is commonly known as Myrtle Rust. What is Myrtle Rust and how pernicious is
it? Myrtle Rust, aka Uredo rangelii, is a fungal plant pathogen native to South America that
affects plants in Myrtaceae family, such as Tea tree, Beach Cherry and Bottle Brush (DAFF,
2012). Its advent can be witnessed in the form of small purple flecks and leaf spots on young
leaves. It then utilizes its vicious powers to create tiny, raised spots or pustules, which turn
powdery distinctive yellow after a few days. It attacks young and new plants and causes them to be
stunted, leaves to be twisted and even leads to their death. While the South American trees have
some resistance against this aggressor, the Australian ones are more vulnerable. It has the potential
to affect up to 80 per cent of Australian native trees and the crusade cannot be stopped once it has
occupied the bush lands (NSW Scientific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Death Depicted In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
When I read Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle
brought to my attention regarding death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either
sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same
time bringing forth new feelings I would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings
reflect a sorrow so deep it morphs into a psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings
has ruined one forever. After analyzing this poem I came to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poes
The Ravendemonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved one brings will stay with you forever.
Poe communicated this theme through abstract language connotation,... Show more content on

The first allusion I would like to point out is the phrase the night s Plutonian shore . This phrase
comes uses it when addressing the bird. The word plutonian is used here as an adjective, and the
word is referring to Pluto, Roman god of the underworld, or in other words, hell. Hell can be
directly associated with death, and even more, with an eternal suffering. Hell, according to the
Roman Catholic Church, is the place where souls burn eternally once they re dead. Therefore,
the night s Plutonian shore is an allusion that Poe has used to convey the eternal sorrow left after
a loved one s death. Of course, it can be acknowledged that this allusion isn t a direct or obvious
connection to that, but, in fact, it is this indirect connection Poe has realized that makes the
allusion so fascinating in itself. Another allusion Poe has presented in the poem is shown in
these lines, these lines which I have stated before: Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget
this lost Lenore! Here, the allusion is the word nepenthe . Nepenthe is an ancient greek word,
historically a medicine for sorrow, or the so called drug of forgetfulness . It was first described in
Homer s Odyssey . Here, the allusion is more direct. The narrator is literally begging the fowl for

Diala Tadros

A.From my point of view 20th century period is the best and the worst time to represent the
western culture. But it s the best for the most part. Western culture refers to the culture of any
country that is a part of the western world. The western country is always democratic has neo
liberal capitalist economy. Has a separation of church and state, and high livings standards with
materialistic society? The USA, UK, France are examples of western countries. Western cultureis

My Original Definition Of Social Media Essay
1.My original definition for antisemitism was: antisemitism is the conscience or unconscious
hatred of a Jew or Jews, because of certain characteristics that the hater believes the Jew or all Jews
possess by being Jewish. However, one thing that my original definition does not hint towards the
wide spectrum of behaviors that are antisemitic. This is an advantage that your definition has. Your
definition mentions a spectrum form mildest expressions to exterminatory activities. Your
definition goes on to list different examples of antisemitic behavior. One category of behavior is
not mentioned though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. We
talked some during the course about social media, especially at the end of the course when we
discussed the six parentheses symbol. Perhaps a better definition of antisemitismcould come about
by combining our two definitions and making mention of social media. The new definition could
be: antisemitism is defined as the conscience or unconscious hatred of Jewsor Judaismfrom its
mildest expressions to exterminatory activates. The activists include making jokes, cyberbullying,
the destruction of religious objects, defacing synagogues, and murdering Jewish people. This new
definition considers actions despite weather or not the hater is aware of them. For example, a
person could have always been told that Jews are greedy. This guy goes around telling jokes about
Jews being greedy. He is engaging in

Canada Should Not Outweigh The Cost Of Canada
Isn t is depressing to see your loved ones get killed in a pointless war just to acquire a few acres
of land? Some have argued that World War 1 made a nation out of Canada; others have replied that
it has divided us ever since. I think that the benefits did not outweighed the costs. Canada officially
went to war on August 4th, 1914 as a result of the British declarations of war on Germany. Even
though Canadagot nothing to do with the war, Canada did not have the decision or the choice to
join the war due to Canada being one of Britain s colonies. Canada at that time had a total
population of 8 million people, in which, 620 000 served in the war and as a result, 60 661 were
killed and 172 000 were wounded. The casualties were really high. There is no place in the world
that is worth the slaughter of human beings. Interestingly, new technologies including machine
guns, tanks, submarines, airplanes, poison gas, radios, and telephones were introduced in World
War 1. But this also meant death rates would increase and being slaughtered would be highly
possible. In response to the situation, Sir Sam Hughes, Canadian Minister of Militia and Defense,
decided to equip most Canadian troops with the Ross Rifle. The Ross Rifle was an excellent gun
for sniping and sharpshooting, but when it came to rapid firing, the gun tends to overheat and gets
jammed easily, making it very useless in the war. In 1915, Canadian soldiers threw their Ross
Rifles away and collected Mausers from

Individuality In The Virgin Suicides And Lolita
The hyperbolic lack of individuality in The Virgin Suicides changes both the image of the boys
and the girls. The narration is through the perspective of the boys as one entity, an
indistinguishable chorus, rather than from separable perspectives. The chorus of boys views the
girls as one entity separating but ultimately coming back together (130). They can only see the
similarity of the girls: their similar hair, morals, upbringing, clothes, disposition, stature, age. This
exemplifies that the girls themselves did not draw the boys in, but only the beauty of their sadness
and the grandeur of their mass suicide. The girls had an inclination to maintain family togetherness
and saw themselves as a both a human pact and each other s greatest confidants (216). The girls
need to be close to one another foreshadowed the night of the four murders, when neither sister
would leave without any other given sister. Closeness overpowers the predisposition to protect
loved ones. Obsession is also present in the repetition of hypotheticals regarding what could have
been between the boys and the Lisbon sisters. They frequently watch the Lisbon home just

paradoxically describe the lack of morality and the ultimate loss of life. Lo is no longer Dolores on

her delicate fingertips, creating a wandering soul without roots. Her nymphet exterior fades, along
with her virtue. The sexual symbolism and moral questions transform Lo s energetic youth into

Phase I: Bridge a Working Capital Shortage The first option, I chose was to reduce agency staff.
These types of employees actually cost more money to employ because they are contracted with a

money by not hiring contract employees but they do not have the expertise, training and

that I chose was to change the skill mix. Employees who are untrained, unlicensed or have limited
expertise have to have duties that do not require special training or degrees. These employees can
concentrate of tasks that do not require much skill or training such as, feeding, bathing or

Dr. Constance Peterson s Spellbound, A Film Production...
First, the old maid characterizes female scientist who is only interested in work as if she was

woman, she is definitely lacking of something. She does not necessarily appear as an old lady, but
she does appear bespectacled. In addition, she is depicted to have an old fashioned style.
Throughout the course of the film, this femaleprotagonist will undergo a transformation, a
character development. Then, a man will appear and change her life. This particular man is going
to show her a way of love which is way out of her routine rationality. A character which best
illustrates this first stereotype is Dr. Constance Peterson in Spellbound, a 1945 movie production

A child with abrupt onset of acute kidney injury with a fever, rash, and a urinalysis with abnormal
urinary sediment should be highly suspected of having acute interstitial nephritis (AIN). In 75% of
cases, AIN is a drug induced hypersensitivity reaction. It is characterized by the classic triad of
fever, rash, and arthralgia, with acute renal dysfunction resulting from the infiltration and activity of
inflammatory cells when the drug/antigen is exposed to the interstitium of the kidney. Medications
commonly associated with AIN include nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs),
antibiotics, diuretics, and proton pump inhibitors. Nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs are the
most common, the most studied, and possibly the most avoidable drugs that cause AIN induced
acute kidney injury. The mainstay of treatment of drug induced AIN is to discontinue treatment
with the offending drug as soon as possible and restore and/or maintain intravascular volume with
isotonic fluids to maintain renal perfusion. Once adequate renal perfusion has been accomplished,
close monitoring of fluid and electrolytebalance is of utmost importance.

One year ago, Sony partnered up with Wind Up Records with an ambition to stimulate their

Since its founding, Christianity has been very influential in many aspects of society. Not until

tend to be motivated to work harder when offered rewards for good work. The 21st century has

Cultural Immersion
Being raised in The Bronx is very close to growing up in a barred civilization. Marble Hill is
where I was raised and where my mother, a couple months fresh from the Dominican Republic, had
met my father. Both chained with the poverty of coming from a country where you quite literally
fetch breakfast in the fields, they had never dared to imagine anything outside of the Bronx
borough. My father was gone around the time I was in third grade, and my immediate familywas
reduced to my heroic motherand two sisters. By the time I was about thirteen we left our one
bedroom apartment in Marble Hill for a coquettish two bedroom on the other side of the Bronx,
and it was then when I had gotten my first taste of escape. I ve been writing since I remember
learning how to hold a pencil. It was my own personal form of getting out of the Bronx; getting
away from the gunshots and machetes. However, I ve realized that in my writing I always talk
about an escape. I write about the sweet taste of cultural immersion. I romanticized my Spanish
Hispanic Lebanese roots, and I aspired. I shot for the stars and reached NYU, but my plan has
always been to reach farther. Florence is rich with the culture I am hungry for and I m interested
in it for the fall term because the experience of a new country is precisely what I need as a... Show

Banning Food Stamps
The article is about banning the use of food stamps to buy sugary drinks. Hence, the major
Michael R. Bloomberg acquired the permission to bar the purchase of sodas using food stamps.
Nevertheless, according the city statistic, I found that 40% of children from kindergarten to a 8
grade students are obese and overweight. This is a terrifying problem, but the thing the surprised
me the most is that it only affecting communities with low income. In addition, poor neighborhoods
are the one whom have higher rate of obesity and the development of diabetes. On the other hand, I
have to agree with the article that banning the use of foodstamps to buy sodas will have dramatic
change upon New Yorkers citizens. In fact, To address this problem

Carnivore Research Paper
As these frighten devices might be costly and complicated to implement for some people, there
are other methods to prevent carnivores from preying on livestock. Fladry barriers and electric
fencing are other non lethal method that some people might be in favor to implement due to the
easy manipulation and the lower cost compared to the frighten devices. However, not only
researches have proved that their less effectiveness compared to the frighten devices, but they do
not have multiple roles other than preventing the damage, and still require the extended labor

Even though this method has been successful on some case with small to medium size animals
like monkeys, according to Distefano, translocation can cause numerous problems in the case of
carnivores. For example, translocation into areas already occupied by individuals of the same
species can lead to aggression and infanticide and a much higher death rate. There is also going to
be effects on non targeted animals if the translocation is not carefully planned out. It might cause a
secondary problem if problematic carnivores are translocated into an area where other endangered
animals inhabit, and the carnivores are likely to prey on them. In addition, the strategy does not
offer an immediate effect so that it has to be combined with other methods and cannot work solo
(Distefano). Anyone seek this strategy has to find another methods to contain a current depredation.
Therefore, extra cost would be required. Also, this strategy are totally depend on some institutions

Organizational Culture Analysis Paper
Organizational culture is the stable beliefs, values, and assumptions shared by a group of people.
I used to work at a bar and there was a shared understanding between the servers and bartenders.
The bartenders were the managers, and each manager had their style of how the bar was ran each
night. The servers had their system of who get what section, but they also had to follow the style of
each bartender. The instrumental purpose of our organizational culturewas influenced by who was
managing the bar each night. There were some bartenders who did not like being bothered with
questions from the servers and there were some who were nice and helpful. The bartenders that
did not care, influenced the servers by letting them choose who had each section, deciding who had
to clean and stock, and who was able to leave and at what times.... Show more content on

Those bartenders also decided who would stay and who would go throughout the night. The
expressive purpose of our organizational culture was based on the personality of bartenders and
servers. Some nights there would be a specific event going on, and the owner would choose
bartenders who would get along with the crowd the best. When a bartender would assign servers
to a section, it was decided by if they were social and sarcastic, they would work in the main bar
area. If a server works well with kids, they would be assigned to the family side of the restaurant.
Also, if there was a server who worked well with big groups, they would be assigned to the game
room. Our shared value was to make sure people were getting what they ordered and that it would

Intertextuality In Walang Forever
Analyzing Genres and Intertextuality: A Critical Paper on the Film Walang Forever
Genre Analysis The genre analysis approach in analyzing media texts helps classify and
breakdown the different genres that were recognized by the viewers as well as created by the
movie makers. These genres offer satisfaction to their target audience brought by the pleasure of
having predicted what was supposed to happen during the film. Genre analysis also identifies
whether there is intertextuality present in relation to other films with the same genre. The
recognition of these genres and having identified their importance within the media text will help
the audience to relate the different cinematic elements of the film and gain more understanding of
the ideas that the media text wanted to convey.
Genre Analysis and Ideology
Having mentioned that the recognition of genres within a media text offer pleasure or satisfaction
to its audience, it is implied that genre analysis is also related to the different ideologies offered
by the media text since there is a momentary satisfaction gained from having achieved the goal of
identifying the genres and predicting the possible outcome of the media text. However, the paper

aspects. After this infamous day, many people live with the fear of experiencing another major

The system did not protect against suicide bombing or hijacking. The prescreening system has
since been expanded to protect against these threats by triggering a secondary screening of
passengers and carry on items. The checkpoint screening technology used on September 11,
2001, received very little improvement since the 1970s; therefore, the technology was very
limited in its capabilities. One goal of the TSA was and still is to correct the vulnerabilities of
screening technology. Eventually, Whole Body Imaging, or WBI, machines were developed to
remove the vulnerabilities of the screening process. However, WBI scanners struggle to gain
acceptance by passengers because of many believe the machines invade one s privacy due to the
high resolution, reveling images of the passenger. Health precautions also are factors in people s
reluctance to use the machine. Many people fear that possibility of being irradiated by the x rays
used by the machines. When going through airport security today, one will be given the choice of
using the WBI scanner or have a pat down by a TSA officer. The 9/11 Commission called for the
addressing of human factors issues at screening checkpoints. Human factors issues that need to be
addressed included screener selection and training, fitness for duty, and human interaction with
screening technologies. To improve the issues in this area, universities and

Standing Seam Roof Research Paper
Over a long period of time, a consumer s most traditional choice for a roofing system was asphalt
shingles. Other options were sparse and if you wanted to purchase a distinct roofing material
compared to asphalt shingles; metal roofing was one of the roofing materials that would do the job.
When most homeowners begin contemplating about a metal roof, all they could visualize were the
roofing materials they had observed on barns and commercial buildings. Now metal roofing is
appearing on homes all around neighborhoods. There are few types of metal roofing, but there is a
distinct type called standing seam metal roofing. A standing seam roof is a metal roof where the
seams position above the flat, steady surface. It appears contrasting to the rigid metal roofsseen on
barns and industrial buildings. Standing seam roofing is amongst the most permanent and
maintenance free type of metal roofing. Standing Seam is becoming more prominent with
homeowners because of the several advantages such as durability, energy efficiency, and high

The Success And Success Of Thomas Farrow s Success
Thomas Farrow was a very smart man who had a great idea and followed through with it. He
decided to start a bank and run things in his own way without much oversight from other
banking professionals. His stubbornness and greed got in the way of what could have been a
very successful venture. He would not be the first person to make a mistake while taking on a
new venture. Mr. Farrow let early success cloud his vision of a long and success bankby not
listening to those who knew better. He knew that he was providing services that were not
available at other banks so he set out to capitalize on those endeavors. Mr. Farrow only saw
money, and this is clearly why he failed where other banks succeeded. By ignoring simply and
well established banking practices, Mr. Farrow set his bank up for failure. Thomas allowed his
hubris to cloud his judgment and in the end he would listen to no one.
Mr. Farrow had competitors that kept an eye on his success and wanted some of the same.

from huge brands like Nike, Adidas, and Under Armor. All of these companies possess strong
sales, ethical environment, and a huge customer base. Mr. Ball decided to go his own route
which has not completely started well. The Better Business Bureau has given an F rating to Big
Baller Brand, the athletic apparel company founded by the brash LaVar on the prominence of
his sons (Chinchilla, 2018). In this case Mr. Ball is exhibiting the same type of behavior that
Mr. Farrow did decades ago. Only time will tell if Mr. Ball changes his ways in order to be
successful entrepreneur. Farrow however, had none of these principles in mind, he simply wanted
to show others that he was capable of being

Informative Essay On North Dakota

Dakota Legendary. This word, legendary, is unique as it specifies the solitary depiction of the
state North Dakota. Two years ago, I was fortunate enough to partake in these legendary
experiences North Dakota has to offer. One legendary experience the great state delivers is
world class goose hunting. Little did I know this five day hunting excursion would modify the
way I would live my life forever. North Dakota s one of a kind outdoor experience has allowed
me to craft a deep vision for my future. To commence, I swiftly tossed the last layout blind into
the Chevy pickup and yelled, Lets hit the road! My dad hurdled into the truck and I pressed the
accelerator, aiming west toward Hazen, North Dakota. Arriving seven hours later, I darted from
truck and inhaled the fumes of a freshly cut wheat field on the horizon. I began to gawk at the

The Positive Impacts of Exercise
This paper delves into the benefits of exercising for the purpose of physical health and emotional
relief and relaxation, which has a positive impact on the physical performance of people. Physical
exercise has been known to mankind since the since the very first civilizations because of the
benefits it provides with the small amount of effort. Different exercises have been part of different
societies, cultures and regions, based on awareness and requirement of the people. Physical exercise
not only boosts and elevates the health of people; it also has a positive effect on the behavior and
moods of people. It has been observed in the past, that people with better interest and involvement
in physical exercises, seemed to live longer and enjoy a more healthy life with less diseases and
less obesity conditions. Physical health has been the ultimate goal of exercisesince forever. Physical
exercise helps in burning calories over a period of time, depending on the intensity of the
exercise. The reduction in calories reduces the weight of the body by reducing fats, which
eventually makes people more fit and healthy because the body can perform better as it requires
pulling and managing less amount of weight than before. On the other hand, lack of exercise leads
to obesity and lethargic behavior, which is the main cause of many diseases and a shorter life
(Pratt, Macera Wang, 2000). The efficient circulation of the blood, the process of sweating and
muscledevelopment, all

Homeless Youth Case Study
Many of the health issues faced by homeless youth are similar to those faced by anyone
experiencing homelessness. However, as adolescents, homeless youth are still developing
psychologically, cognitively and physically and may make choices that are not in the best interest
of their health. Before becoming homeless, these youth may have endured a chaotic and often
violent home life and they may be distrustful of authority and adults. For these reasons, homeless
youth can benefit from services that are specific to their needs rather than incorporated into services
for the adult homeless population.

Homeless Children and Youth Program. Unfortunately, the program has not yet received the full
funding authorized in 1987. Only 3 percent of local education agencies receive funding. The link
between a lack of education, unemployment and poverty is obvious. In addition to needing to

Mussel Research Paper
Mussels are incredibly fascinating creatures that deserve some investigation. I ve had the
opportunity to learn about mussels from local experts in state and federal government agencies
and from my colleagues in academia, who can speak much more accurately to mussel biology than
I, but I will enumerate some key points that make mussels worth thinking about. Mussels are much
more than living rocks (although this is what they most resemble); mussel shells come in a wide
variety of shapes, sizes, and surface textures. Adult mussel shell length ranges from 1 to 10 inches
for different species. With common names like warty back , threeridge , heelsplitter or pocketbook

Mussels do have one foot, which allows them to anchor into sediment or crawl along slowly
(generally inches to feet a day at most). Unlike oysters or clams, freshwater mussels have a
unique life cycle that depends on a parasitic relationship with a host fish. It is this relationship
that allows mussels to spread throughout a river network. Female mussels release mussel larvae
(called glochidia) which must attach to the gills of a suitable host where they will grow and
develop for several weeks before dropping off of the fish as juvenile mussels. Many mussel species
have evolved intricate methods to attract the appropriate fish host to ensure successful attachment
of glochidia. These methods range from displaying elaborate lures that mimic fish, to developing
packages of glochidia that resemble fish food, to physically capturing the unsuspecting fish host
long enough to infest the fish with glochidia. These adaptations are next to impossible to observe
in the wild without a snorkel, scuba gear, and/or lots of time and the expertise on when and where
to look, but the curious can check out the array of videos online (http://molluskconservation.org

and environmental conditions in their shells. Like trees, mussels develop rings as they grow. The

Metaphors By Sylvia Plath Essay
In Sylvia Plath s poem Metaphors there are several references and comparisons that are made
between various images and pregnancy. Plath s life experiences and the perception of women s
roles of the 1950 s shaped her poems and was of particular importance in this poem. As the poem
progresses, the reader can infer that her attitude towards her pregnancy is not static. Through her
ironic use of various metaphors, Plath is able to convey her feelings of bearing a child, and how
her perception and emotions of herself change over the course of her pregnancy. Plath was an
American poet, born in 1932. Her parents demanded superior academic performance and this
resulted in Plath being somewhat of a perfectionist in her writing (Carmean 1). She... Show more

Beginning at line 7 of the poem, Plath s tone shifts from one of excitement and satisfaction to
that of disdain and disillusionment because of a crushing realization. Instead of having the
initial joy and excitement of being pregnant, Plath now feels as if her body is a mere means and
that its only purpose is to bare the child she is currently supporting. She feels more like a vessel
storing something or an incubator. She sees herself as a shelter for the child growing inside of
her (Devi 2). She further highlights this feeling when she again focuses on her appearance when
she mentions how she is a cow in calf (7). Many women would feel disrespected if called a cow
and the fact that Plath portrays herself as one, she allows the reader to see her true feelings of
her pregnancy and that she might, in fact, wish she was not. The newness of pregnancy has worn
off and now she is left with a sour taste and realization as if she had eaten a bag of green apples
(8). All Plath is left with now is the bitter truth about what comes next in her

  • 2. A Wall Of Fire Rising A Wall of Fire Rising , Slavery vs. Freedom. Being a story from a short story novel title Krik? Krak! Written by Edwidge Danticat, A Wall of Fire Rising in brief is about Guy, Lili, and their son Little Guy, a Haitian family living in poverty, with Guy been an unemployed sugar cane worker that escape the misery of the quotidian life by stealing an air balloon from which he hurt himself, choosing a scaring death over the misery of life beneath (Abbott 11). In further, the story also drives our intention on Little Guy, especially about his role in a play as Haitian revolutionary Duty Boukman (who play a vast role in the abolition of slavery in Haitithat led to their Independence). Thus, to not forget his lines from the play, we see him reciting them throughout the story. Additionally, Danticat shows the characters, Lili and Guy have a conflict over their son Little Guy been on a sugar mill permanent hire list. Edwidge Danticat illustration of these events could be interpreted as a symbol of Slavery and Freedom, that connects the past historical time, in which Boukman live in, as well of the presentone lived by Guy, Lili, and Little Guy in the story. To begin, it can be confirmed that Duty Boukman was mentioned in A Wall of Fire Rising , with being a role Little Guy must play in his upcoming school performance. This is shown when Guy asks Little Guy about his role in the play, and as seen on line 10, Little Guy responds, I m Boukman (Danticat 227). Knowing that, the question now is why does Danticat introduce someone from Haiti history in a story that supposes to be about a family struggling with poverty to maintain their daily needs? Foremost, let know who Boukman is. Briefly, he was a revolutionary, a slave and reputed voodoo priest, who with his powerful spoken words of freedom, in defiance of the French colonizers, help to spark a revolution that ultimately led to the abolition of slavery and the founding of the Haitian Republic in 1804 (Chen 4). In addition, before the revolt, most of the slaves in Haiti were more used to work in the French sugar plantation. Just as mentioned in the Globe and Mail article titled Krik? Krak! By Elizabeth Abbott, in which she wrote that: When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evaluation Of A Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Clinical Cooperating Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Positive reinforcement plays a major role in the classroom management plan in my cooperating teacher s classroom. In this fourth grade class, students are grouped in groups of four or five who work as a team to earn marbles. Each group has a marble jar on their storage shelf in their group where the teacher will add a variety of different sized marbles. Students can earn marbles for following directions, answering questions, paying attention, helping others, being a good listener, and many other positive behaviors and good choices. Different size marbles represent a different amount of tickets that students can earn to use to purchase rewards. Some rewards include a free homework pass, lunch with a friend, lunch with the teacher; sit in the rocking chair during reading time, or choosing a prize from the prize box. As I observed the class, I realized this system works really well for this group of students. The teacher would give the class directions. For example, please get out your math journals and a pencil. The teacher did not have to say anything about earning marbles. All she did was gather a handful of marbles, begin walking around the room looking for a group who was following direction and ready to work. Once she spotted a group doing what was asked, she placed the marbles in their jar. She followed the steps until she was out of marbles. Students were ready to work fast. The clink ... • 4. My Learning Disability If I was invited to an interview for a new job, I would choose not to disclose my learning disability to the interviewer. Despite the fact that there are many upsides to disclosure, I personally feel as though the cons outweigh the pros. Some of the cons include embarrassment, loss of independence, and overall discrimination you may face from employers. First of all, sharing that you have a learning disabilitycan be very nerve wracking or even embarrassing for some. People aren t always accepting, and they may see you as someone who you re truly not. This ties into the second reason why I wouldn t disclose my learning disability in a job interview: loss of independence. When people find out that you have a learning disability, sometimes they ... • 5. Explain The Three Branches Of Texas Government The three branches of government of Texas: Introduction This paper will discuss about the three branches of government of Texas. The government of Texas has its operations under the constitution of Texas (Maxwell, Crain, Santos, 2013). It consists of a unitary democratic state of government that applies the Dillon Rule as the County and municipal levels. The branches of the Texas government consist of the executive branch, which consist of the governor, Lieutenant governor and many others in that docket. The governor heads the executive branch and many other leaders work under him/her. The executive branch system limits the power of the governor, but does not do that to the secretary of the state. Elections of the executive officials are elected independently and therefore they are answerable to the public independently and not to the governor. In this kind of a branch of government I would have changed the power that the governor has to appoint a committee that would solely rely on the on the governors decisions (Child). Rather I would like that, that the committee members be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The house of representatives is consisted of around 150 members while the senate has a total number of 31 members. The speaker of the house who is elected independently by the members of the house heads the house. The legislature is a very powerful arm of the Texas government; it also has a very strong constitutional connection with the Lieutenant Governor. If I were given a chance to change something in this system of ruling, I would have changed the allowances that the legislators are given for their mileage of 5 dollars to a value much higher because they have many things that they are doing in the government. The indebtedness that the legislature receives of $200, 000 is excessively low for the hard work of the legislators therefore I could change the amount they get and therefore raise it ... • 6. The Negative Effects Of Living Separately As A Married Couple Living Separately as a Married Couple Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and let him make her sorry to see him leave (Luther); When a married couple decides to live in separate houses, the married couple may think it is peaceful, relaxing, and full of excitement; however, that is not the case. When a married couple lives separately, the couple may enjoy his or her freedom. By freedom, the writer means walking around the house wearing only her skin, listening to music, and singing loudly even though it does not sound pleasant. From the writer s experience, living separately from her spouse has not been an easy or enjoyable experience. Living separately from a spouse has several effects such as financial burdens, infidelity, and a negative impact on children. One important effect of married couples living in separate homes is financial burdens. Prior to living separately, the married couples had two incomes. Rather than paying bills on their own, the couple possible shared accounts and the responsibility of paying bills together. The husband and wife would have to learn how to budget on one income. Before, the husband and wife saved money together, but separately the couple could have difficulty saving money due to extra expenses. Now since the couple is living in two separate homes, more expenses are created; for instance, renting a storage building. Another result of married couples living separately is infidelity. Since the married couple is living in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Students For A Democratic Society Description: The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was formed in 1959 after they decided to branch off of the Student League for Industrial Democracy, which was the youth branch of the Socialist League for Industrial Democracy. The SDS was a radical group made up of teens and young adults that sought to overthrow America s democratic society and remake it in a Marxist image. Many of the SDS key members where known as red diaper babies as their parents were often members of the Communist parties of the 1930 s. The Students for a Democratic Society s founding can be accredited to a man named Aryeh Neier in 1959; who would later become the National Executive Director of the ACLU and go on to build two other influential organizations, the Human RightsWatch and the Open Society Institute. SDS held its first meeting in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1960 where it announced its first President, Alan Haber. Haber was an editor for the student newspaper at the University of Michigan and was known as Ann Arbor s resident radical . From their first meeting, the SDS decided that they wanted to set the tone and introduce an itinerary for their generation as they grew to influence the political world. The SDS denounced bigotry, materialism, personal alienation, and industrialization in America and also widely protested American abundance, the threat of nuclear war, military spending, and the Cold War. They publicly addressed this in 1962 by creating what historian Michael Kazin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Islm Curve Understanding Equilibrium in the IS/LM Model 1995 version Prof. Humberto Barreto1 Introduction: This brief work is designed to provide additional ammunition for the student in the ongoing war against IS/LM confusion and ignorance. The author has claimed in his Notes on Macroeconomic Theory (1995) that, There should be no mystery or uncertainty surrounding the IS /LM analysis at this point. IS/LM curves are simply a short cut to finding the equilibrium values for income and interest rate. There are two equations and two unknownsГ‘what simpler strategy than to put them on one graph could be devised? (p. 52) The author still worries, however, that the student is memorizing the equilibrium condition, IS=LM generates Ye, without really... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The student should see that the existing values of i and Y will have a tendency to change. The interest rate will fall because there is a shortage of bonds and as the price of bonds rises to drive the bond market to equilibrium, the interest rate will fall. The equilibrium interest rate, of course, will be found at the intersection of the Ms and Md schedules. Output will increase because a falling interest rate will trigger higher investment expenditures by firms. The increased I will increase AD and, therefore, Ye will increase. But then the higher income will shift money demand up, which will increase the equilibrium interest rate, and the same chain will be triggered leading to a decrease in the equilibrium level of output. The student undoubtedly knows that, eventually, after running through a series of converging loops, the system will settle into a mutually compatible, or general equilibrium, combination of i and Y. If you think the iteration process is a messy and cumbersome means of calculating the general equilibrium, or final, resting place of i and Y, you should applaud the use of the IS/LM graph. In one quick graph, we can immediately and easily see the system s general equilibrium solution. From our initial i0, Y0 combination, the IS/LM graph allows us to instantly see the final solution and to predict a decrease in interest rates and increase in output. However, a drawback is that it does not show how or why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Ecology Lab Report Ecology is the study of interaction between living organisms and nonliving environmental factors. The objective of the study is to determine the forest ecology of the Manor House by calculating the density, size, and diversity of the woodlot (Biology 214 Laboratory Handout). Diversity is the degree of the variability among the living organisms. It is important to study diversity because a larger variability of within a community will promote the productivity of an ecosystem. In addition, the knowledge of the number of individual organisms present in a population is important to ecologists. Many methods exist to quantify the numbers of individual organisms in a specific area. It is important to chose a measuring method that is most practical for the sampling area. The point quarter technique, developed by Cottan and Curtis, is widely used to estimate the area covered by an organism based on random samplings on specific areas. The sample area is chosen at random along a transect, relying on the random distribution of organisms in the area. From the random point, the area is divided into four quadrants and the point to plant distance is measured. From this measurement, species density, diversity and importance value can be calculated. Khan and his colleagues (2016) investigated the discrepancy and accuracy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I hypothesize that the forest woodlot will have moderate density, size, and diversity. Before measuring the characteristics of the woodlot, I observed that the forest was not densely populated and the organisms were spaced apart evenly throughout the forest. The greek myth where Gemini is orinated from is of two twin brothers the stars Pollux and Casper. The constellation is seen between the constellations, Taurus and Cancer. • 11. Fission Vs Nuclear There are many ways to fuel the world s needs for electrical power, but we acquire our needs mostly from three energy sources: coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy (Cravens, 11). Yet from fossil fuels the emission of carbon dioxide (~1400 grams COв‚‚ equivalent per kWh) and toxic waste produced from the burning of aforementioned fossil fuels kills more than 20,000 Americans annually (Cravens, 13), while nuclear energy (and its outputs) have not killed a single human (as it is rather human error that is the cause of the loss of life). One must also note the fact that if an American received all of his or her electricity from fossil fuels over a lifespan of about 75 years, that person s pile of waste would weigh 68.5 tons compared to the two... Even if one were to include the death tolls from both Chernobyl and Fukushima, nuclear energy ranks last in death per unit generated per year (see fig. 2). And although nuclear waste is toxic and harmful to humans (as it can cause cancer and death), it is usually stored in a safe location away from other resources and most importantly, away from humans. On the other hand, the toxic byproducts of fossil fuels are being released into the air every day. And by reducing the amount of fossil fuels burned, countless cases of cancer and lung disease as well as coal mining accidents have been avoided. In the 1950s and 1960s, LSD was used by psychiatrists for analytic psychotherapy. It was thought that the administration of LSD could aid the patient in releasing repressed material. It was also suggested that psychiatrists themselves might develop more insight into the pathology of a diseased mind through self experimentation. 1,2 During the late 60s, LSD became popular as a recreational drug. Many physicists have faith that at some point a Grand Unified Theory will be developed which will provide a unified description of the universe from subatomic particles to the movement of the planets. Like in physics, the cognitive sciences can describe the brain at different levels of abstraction. For example, neurobiologists study brain function at the level of neurons while psychologists look for the laws describing behavior and cognitive mechanisms. Also like in physics, many in these fields believe that it is possible that one day we will be able to understand complicated behaviors in terms of neuronal mechanisms. Others believe that this unification isn t possible even in theory because there is some metaphysical quality to consciousness that transcends neural firing patterns. Even if consciousness can t be described by a Grand Unified Theory of the cognitive sciences, it is apparent that many of our cognitive mechanisms and behaviors can. While research on the level of neurons and psychological mechanisms is fairly well developed, the area in between these is rather murky. Some progress has been made however. Cognitive scientists have been able to associate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Psychology Of The Piece Of Literature Psychoanalysis is a type of criticism focused on the psychology of the piece of literature. Through the analysis of the psychology behind a work, a conclusion can be made about it s meaning. Psychoanalysis plays a huge role in the play Hamlet. In Hamlet, William Shakespeare utilizes id, ego, superego, the oedipal complex, and depression to show how Old King Hamlets murder and Gertrude s marriage to Claudius causes Hamlet to eventually go mad. Sigmund Freud coined the term Oedipal Complex to describe a phenomenon he observed where the child has sexual feelings of desire for the parent of the opposite gender and has feelings of hostility and jealously towards the parent of the same sex. Since the father is receiving the attention of the mother, the boy then sets out to become like the father. He imitates and partakes in dad type behaviors. This act is referred to as identification and how the boy gets over the Oedipal Complex. This phenomenon is shown through the play Hamlet. Hamlet is extremely jealous of the attention that his mother, Gertrude, has shown to both his father, Old King Hamlet, and his uncle and new step father, Claudius. Hamlet says, Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him As if increase of appetite had grown By what it fed on, and yet, within a month Let me not think on t. Frailty, thy name is woman! His mother would hang on to him (Old King Hamlet) and the more she was with him, the more she wanted of him. But even though she could not get enough of Old King Hamlet when he was alive, she barely even mourned. She was almost immediately married to Claudius. • 14. Fan Identity One of the main points of discussion is the idea of the fanatic itself and how fandom is an accepted mode of obsession in the contemporary world. Much of the discourse on the subject deals with the complex psychology of the word through anthropological and psychoanalytical work on what it means to be a fanthe mixture of reverence for their object of affection, but also the embarrassment of being associated with what some might deem as crazy or superficial. The definition of fan has altered over time, with it becoming increasingly negative. • 15. The Functions of the Veil for Muslims The Functions of the Veil The practice of veiling has been a topic of controversy amongst several Muslim and non Muslim scholars (Ruby, 2006). The new hijab phenomenon originated in Cairo approximately two decades ago. Although not a common practice in Cairo, by the year 2000 over 80% of women adopted some form of veiling. The practice of veiling has also been embraced by several other Muslim societies around the world (Carvalho, 2013). The Western world has associated veiling as a form of oppression, gender inequality, and has been an object of pity and fear (Bullock, 2007 Haleh, 2008). However, these stereotypes are not always reflective of the many who do wear it (Bullock, 2007). Two articles will be critically reviewed. The first article, Islam and Body Politics: Inscribing (Im)morality, was presented by politics professor Asma Barlas at the Conference on Religion and Politics in the University of Iceland. This article confronts the beliefs that the world has about Islam, women and veiling, and criticizes the blasphemy of Islamic religious figure, Prophet Muhammad. The second article, Meanings of modesty and the hijab amongst Muslim women in Glasgow, Scotland, is written by sociologist Asifa Siraj. One measurement that can be used is a look into their personal lives. An evaluation of the private conduct of the executive can often prove to be insightful and a predictor of future behaviors. I was really really good from a young age, I had an innate ability to play basketball. I had fun dribbling and doing all the dirty work, I liked the running and playing defense I loved every aspect of the game. The first experience I remembered was when I was in 4th grade and it was the champion ship game against Lakeland. Lakeland was always super good and before this game we never have gotten even close to them in score. This game was different. It was 32 28 our lead and we had 2 mins left. I remember Lakeland only had one good player and I was guarding him, it was the hardest challenge of my life because this kid was the best. I was guarding him and he shot a 3 and somehow it went in so now the score was 32 31 with about a minute left. We had the ball and we were dribbling up the court but somehow, they got the ball back and scored so now the score was 33 32 their lead. My coach (my step dad) calls a time out and brings us together and says now boys this is the closest we have ever gotten to beating this team so let s not let it slip away everyone looked at each other and we knew we had to do something. So, we made a play so I could score to win the game. I was so nervous; the play was called 2 . the play would start at the top of the key and I would have to run up to the elbow and then someone would come and pick for me and I would do a back door. We tried the play in practice a couple days prior to this game but we never put it in action. So, the time out ended and we went back on the court. my heart was beating and my legs were shaking. So, we bring up the ball and we all get in position, now there is about 40 seconds on the clock and we wait a little bit before we start the play to take some time off the clock. But then finally the point guard yells out 2 and my heart drops even more. but I do what I m supposed to and pop up and then here comes the screen. I set my guy up the cut back door. While analyzing significant rebellions within the American colonies, one aspect persists throughout: one culture s assumption that it is superior to another, prompting an attempt to impose that group s cultureand way of life over the other. In Metacom s War, the Stono Rebellion, and the Salem Witch Trials, that common theme is evident and corresponds to Bailyn s quote, It was the intermingling of [barbarity] and developing civilization that is the central characteristic of the world that was emerging in America. However, the question remains: who are the barbarians and who are the civilized? In each of the rebellions there is a clear historical tendency to label groups; indeed, it must be noted that viewpoint is of utmost importance when evaluating such events, if one is to truly understand the plight of the barbarianand the civilized. That said, by dissecting the quote, and analyzing these three events, it is clear that each rebellion was the result of cultural ignorance and, as a consequence, a sort of death occurred in each culture for Metacom s war, culture and tradition, for Stono, African freedom, and for Salem, the Puritan utopia. In order to fully comprehend the historical implications, it is necessary to first discuss the language which the quote uses and analyze how it applies to each of the three rebellions more specifically, the ... The march then continued to the next targets Victoria and Queensland. Over the course of three years, it has become one of the biggest biosecurity threats to Australia s ecosystem. This alien intruder is commonly known as Myrtle Rust. What is Myrtle Rust and how pernicious is it? Myrtle Rust, aka Uredo rangelii, is a fungal plant pathogen native to South America that affects plants in Myrtaceae family, such as Tea tree, Beach Cherry and Bottle Brush (DAFF, 2012). Its advent can be witnessed in the form of small purple flecks and leaf spots on young leaves. It then utilizes its vicious powers to create tiny, raised spots or pustules, which turn powdery distinctive yellow after a few days. It attacks young and new plants and causes them to be stunted, leaves to be twisted and even leads to their death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep it morphs into a psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. Hell can be directly associated with death, and even more, with an eternal suffering. Hell, according to the Roman Catholic Church, is the place where souls burn eternally once they re dead. Therefore, the night s Plutonian shore is an allusion that Poe has used to convey the eternal sorrow left after a loved one s death. Of course, it can be acknowledged that this allusion isn t a direct or obvious connection to that, but, in fact, it is this indirect connection Poe has realized that makes the allusion so fascinating in itself. My Original Definition Of Social Media Essay 1.My original definition for antisemitism was: antisemitism is the conscience or unconscious hatred of a Jew or Jews, because of certain characteristics that the hater believes the Jew or all Jews possess by being Jewish. However, one thing that my original definition does not hint towards the wide spectrum of behaviors that are antisemitic. This is an advantage that your definition has. Your definition mentions a spectrum form mildest expressions to exterminatory activities. Your definition goes on to list different examples of antisemitic behavior. One category of behavior is not mentioned though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. Some have argued that World War 1 made a nation out of Canada; others have replied that it has divided us ever since. I think that the benefits did not outweighed the costs. Canada officially went to war on August 4th, 1914 as a result of the British declarations of war on Germany. Even though Canadagot nothing to do with the war, Canada did not have the decision or the choice to join the war due to Canada being one of Britain s colonies. Canada at that time had a total population of 8 million people, in which, 620 000 served in the war and as a result, 60 661 were killed and 172 000 were wounded. The casualties were really high. There is no place in the world that is worth the slaughter of human beings. Interestingly, new technologies including machine guns, tanks, submarines, airplanes, poison gas, radios, and telephones were introduced in World War 1. But this also meant death rates would increase and being slaughtered would be highly possible. In response to the situation, Sir Sam Hughes, Canadian Minister of Militia and Defense, decided to equip most Canadian troops with the Ross Rifle. The narration is through the perspective of the boys as one entity, an indistinguishable chorus, rather than from separable perspectives. The chorus of boys views the girls as one entity separating but ultimately coming back together (130). They can only see the similarity of the girls: their similar hair, morals, upbringing, clothes, disposition, stature, age. This exemplifies that the girls themselves did not draw the boys in, but only the beauty of their sadness and the grandeur of their mass suicide. The girls had an inclination to maintain family togetherness and saw themselves as a both a human pact and each other s greatest confidants (216). The girls need to be close to one another foreshadowed the night of the four murders, when neither sister would leave without any other given sister. The simulation is based on a cardiac care hospital called Elijah Heart Center. The paper discusses decisions that had to be made based on financial dilemmas Elijah Heart Center is facing and how these dilemmas can be solved based on the decisions made in the simulation. Phase I: Bridge a Working Capital Shortage The first option, I chose was to reduce agency staff. These types of employees actually cost more money to employ because they are contracted with a different company, so it costs more money to have them work for the company than regular company employees. The Elijah Heart Center will find that not only will the organization save money by not hiring contract employees but they do not have the expertise, training and knowledge of company policies and procedures that regular employees have. The second option that I chose was to change the skill mix. Employees who are untrained, unlicensed or have limited expertise have to have duties that do not require special training or degrees. These employees can concentrate of tasks that do not require much skill or training such as, feeding, bathing or comforting the patient. This provides assistance to the licensed employees so they can better concentrate on patient care without worrying about smaller tasks. This also benefits the heart center by reducing the expenditure on employee salaries. This way they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The spectators will have no doubt of her scientific competence. Nonetheless, as a woman, she is definitely lacking of something. She does not necessarily appear as an old lady, but she does appear bespectacled. In addition, she is depicted to have an old fashioned style. Throughout the course of the film, this femaleprotagonist will undergo a transformation, a character development. Then, a man will appear and change her life. This particular man is going to show her a way of love which is way out of her routine rationality. A character which best illustrates this first stereotype is Dr. Constance Peterson in Spellbound, a 1945 movie production directed by David O. Selznick (Flicker 311). Second, the male woman is portrayed as a member of male team who can stand on her on by learning to be assertive within her male colleague environment, have a rough and harsh voice, dress practically and tend to acquire unhealthy lifestyle such as bad sleeping habits, smokes, drinks (Flicker 311). To some extent, this male woman female scientist is parallel to the character of male scientist who is often times portrayed as hard, very diligent worker, absent minded, confused or worse, mad (Haynes quoted in Flicker 311). Interstitial Nephritis A child with abrupt onset of acute kidney injury with a fever, rash, and a urinalysis with abnormal urinary sediment should be highly suspected of having acute interstitial nephritis (AIN). In 75% of cases, AIN is a drug induced hypersensitivity reaction. It is characterized by the classic triad of fever, rash, and arthralgia, with acute renal dysfunction resulting from the infiltration and activity of inflammatory cells when the drug/antigen is exposed to the interstitium of the kidney. Medications commonly associated with AIN include nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics, diuretics, and proton pump inhibitors. Nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs are the most common, the most studied, and possibly the most avoidable drugs that cause AIN induced acute kidney injury. The mainstay of treatment of drug induced AIN is to discontinue treatment with the offending drug as soon as possible and restore and/or maintain intravascular volume with isotonic fluids to maintain renal perfusion. Once adequate renal perfusion has been accomplished, close monitoring of fluid and electrolytebalance is of utmost importance. Health Care Homeless adolescents often have a greater number of physical and mental health problems than their housed counterparts. They are more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, homeless, unaccompanied youth face several barriers to obtaining an education. They are often prevented from enrolling in school because of liability concerns, legal guardianship requirements and curfew laws. In 1987, the Stewart B. McKinney Act established the Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program. Unfortunately, the program has not yet received the full funding authorized in 1987. Only 3 percent of local education agencies receive funding. The link between a lack of education, unemployment and poverty is obvious. In addition to needing to complete high school successfully, homeless youth need job training skills to be successful in the job market. In some communities, the lack of appropriate employment opportunities is seen as contributing to the incidence of street crime by at risk and homeless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Mussel Research Paper Mussels are incredibly fascinating creatures that deserve some investigation. I ve had the opportunity to learn about mussels from local experts in state and federal government agencies and from my colleagues in academia, who can speak much more accurately to mussel biology than I, but I will enumerate some key points that make mussels worth thinking about. Mussels are much more than living rocks (although this is what they most resemble); mussel shells come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and surface textures. Adult mussel shell length ranges from 1 to 10 inches for different species. With common names like warty back , threeridge , heelsplitter or pocketbook , you can imagine the shell sculpture for each of these species with bumps,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mussels do have one foot, which allows them to anchor into sediment or crawl along slowly (generally inches to feet a day at most). Unlike oysters or clams, freshwater mussels have a unique life cycle that depends on a parasitic relationship with a host fish. It is this relationship that allows mussels to spread throughout a river network. Female mussels release mussel larvae (called glochidia) which must attach to the gills of a suitable host where they will grow and develop for several weeks before dropping off of the fish as juvenile mussels. Many mussel species have evolved intricate methods to attract the appropriate fish host to ensure successful attachment of glochidia. These methods range from displaying elaborate lures that mimic fish, to developing packages of glochidia that resemble fish food, to physically capturing the unsuspecting fish host long enough to infest the fish with glochidia. These adaptations are next to impossible to observe in the wild without a snorkel, scuba gear, and/or lots of time and the expertise on when and where to look, but the curious can check out the array of videos online (http://molluskconservation.org /MUSSELS/Adaptation.html). As they grow, mussels can keep a record of the water chemistry and environmental conditions in their shells. Like trees, mussels develop rings as they grow. The size of each grow ring can show ... • 55. Metaphors By Sylvia Plath Essay In Sylvia Plath s poem Metaphors there are several references and comparisons that are made between various images and pregnancy. Plath s life experiences and the perception of women s roles of the 1950 s shaped her poems and was of particular importance in this poem. As the poem progresses, the reader can infer that her attitude towards her pregnancy is not static. Through her ironic use of various metaphors, Plath is able to convey her feelings of bearing a child, and how her perception and emotions of herself change over the course of her pregnancy. Plath was an American poet, born in 1932. Her parents demanded superior academic performance and this resulted in Plath being somewhat of a perfectionist in her writing (Carmean 1). She... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning at line 7 of the poem, Plath s tone shifts from one of excitement and satisfaction to that of disdain and disillusionment because of a crushing realization. Instead of having the initial joy and excitement of being pregnant, Plath now feels as if her body is a mere means and that its only purpose is to bare the child she is currently supporting. She feels more like a vessel storing something or an incubator. She sees herself as a shelter for the child growing inside of her (Devi 2). She further highlights this feeling when she again focuses on her appearance when she mentions how she is a cow in calf (7). Many women would feel disrespected if called a cow and the fact that Plath portrays herself as one, she allows the reader to see her true feelings of her pregnancy and that she might, in fact, wish she was not. The newness of pregnancy has worn off and now she is left with a sour taste and realization as if she had eaten a bag of green apples (8). All Plath is left with now is the bitter truth about what comes next in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
