Organizing A Fundraising Event At The South And City...
Introduction
This report evaluates my own experience working within a team to organise a fundraising event at the
South and City College Enterprise Day. We were aimed to raise money for Teenager Cancer Trust by
selling handmade crafts. Below, I am going to reflect about my own experience and about how the
team worked together to achieve our goals. Team roles and problem solving techniques will be
evaluated and suggestions for improvement will be given as we have now learned from this
experience.
1. Team roles
Everyone in the team adopted different roles according to their skills and personalities. The roles we
played were not agreed by them team but just came according to each one s abilities. The team had
functional diversity, that is, different skills that put together allowed the team to achieve its goals
(West, 2012). This also provided the team with different ideas to share and achieve the best outcomes
(Sohmen, 2013). One member of the team was a resource investigator (Belbin, 1991 2006). She
creates contacts during the fair and explored new selling opportunities, engaging people to come to the
table. Another team member was more teamwork (Belbin, 1991 2006) being diplomatic and finding
ways to make people agree to each other. The team also had a sharper member (Belbin, 1991 2006)
that challenged the team ideas. She was helpful to improve and polish the team decisions, however it
lead into some arguments with other team members. One team member played the role of

Summary Of Joe Valentine And Travis Vanderwhite With Lithko
Joe Valentine and Travis Vanderwhite with Lithko presented on the topic of vertical concrete
construction. They explained to us that vertical concrete construction is a wide range of different
versions of placing concrete. Lithko is a concrete contactor that is aiming to be in every major city in
the United States. They currently have ____ number of offices with the closest being in Kansas City.
Joe and Travis explained to us that Lithko doesn t own any of their own forms. They rent every form
they use whether it is gang forms or steel ply systems. According to what we were told it is just about
the same cost for them to rent all the forms and also they said they are guaranteed quality equipment
for every job. Lithko uses three major forming systems and these systems are gang forms, steel ply,
and ply wood forms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These forms can withstand up to 2000 lbs/sf of pouring pressure and have the fastest pour rate. Gang
forms only require tie about every 4 to 5 feet on center. This system does require a sizeable lay down
area to construct the gang form. Once a certain gang is created it is lifted into place and usually there
is more gangs attached to another. Once the wall is poured and set the form can be striped and if the
gang section is not to odd of a section it can be placed exactly where the next pour will be located.
This helps to speed up the process setting walls and almost takes no time at all to set up for a pour.
Gang forms come in heavy duty and medium duty according to

A Long History Of Unequal Treatment Among Ethnic Minority...
Introduction
In the United States, there is a long history of unequal treatment among ethnic minority groups,
particularly for African Americans. Unfortunately, this injustice also appears in education.
Sociologists have affirmed the importance of education in shaping the economic and social prospects
of individuals. As all communities in the United States have been diversified, it becomes crucial to
recognize and properly deal with diversity within the classroom. All studnets should be guaranteed to
have equal opportunities for quality education at school. However, racism is still prevalent in many
schools today (Beswick, 4, 1990, Pennino, 2007). Racism now has different forms, like the individual
instructions student can get from their teachers, and the acceptance of students among their
classmates. These can have negative and lasting effects on students even when they leave school.
Students must not experience any type of stereotyping, ethnic prejudice or racial violence in schools.
Asante (2003) said: Racism in education can not be overcome by the expression of goodwill, it must
be constantly confronted in all conscious ways (p.223).
For some poor African American students, education is usually the last existing method by which they
can improve their family life level and escape from a long history of poverty. Therefore, whether the
education system will provide a fair environment for them, or more specifically, whether their teacher
will have prejudice among them and

Supernatural Events In Macbeth Research Paper
Sydney Reynolds
Smith
AP Lang
3/31/15
Supernatural Events in Macbeth William Shakespeare had a common theme of supernatural events
and attributes in his plays. This continues in his famous play, Macbeth, where there are four main
supernatural events that incite the plot of the play. These metaphysical components add drama and
excitement to the play and are the catalysts to Macbeth s tragic hero downfall. The encountering of the
witches, the imaginary dagger, Banquo s ghost, and the apparitions all added dramatic elements to the
play including foreshadowing, suspense, subconscious thoughts, and plot stimulants. Through the
combination of unearthly phenomenon s and mundane characters, Shakespeare creates an imaginative
plot that establishes character s true thoughts and causes the characters to act on ideas brought upon by
these supernatural projections. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are the evil spirits that initially bring out the evil in Macbeth when he is at his highest point in
his career. He has just slain several traitors in the civilization and is well respected by King Duncan
and his fellow noblemen. The witches impose what they call Macbeth s fate on Macbeth and he whole
heartedly trusts and believes them. The prophesies are presented in a way of greeting Macbeth with,
Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! and All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king
hereafter! (1.3.49 51) Since shortly after these proclamations, Macbeth actually was presented with
the title of Thane of Cawdor, he feels he has reason to trust what these supernatural sisters are telling
him. Each of the prophesies the witches make foreshadow the events in future scenes in the play that
either naturally happen, like in the case of Thane of Glamis and Thane of Cawdor, or Macbeth

Raskolnikov Foil
Gentry Hale
Raskolnikov is a proud and intellectual man who believes that he is extraordinary enough to break all
social rules and moral standards if he thinks that it will further humanity. Sonia is a shy and timorous
girl who is a devout Christian and is so dedicated to her family that she is willing to do anything to
help them. Sonia s humility and meekness help Raskolnikov to realize that he may not be as
remarkable as he believes. Fyodor Dostoevsky uses Sonia as a foil towards Raskolnikov, in his novel
Crime and Punishment, because she helps him to overcome his pride and confess to his crime. Sonia
and Raskolnikov are both communal outcasts because of the social injustices that they have
committed. Sonia resorted to prostitution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He immediately convinced himself that it was a sign that he must commit the murder the next night.
The use of coincidence and environment as self justification shows that he feels guilty and needs
validation for his crimes. He cannot turn to God like Sonia because he is a selfish man and repenting
means that he must admit to himself that he had done wrong. Instead of feeling disappointment in
himself he will blame his actions on the world around him. Raskolnikov askes Sonia to read him a
passage out of the Bible and she reads him the story of Lazarus. He acts as if he does not believe in the
story, but he is moved by it. The rising of Lazarus from the dead is a parallel to Raskolnikovs
separation from the world. He relates to this story because his pride alienates him from those that love
him. He longs to be like Lazarus and to be reborn, and his pride begins to waiver. When he works up
the humility to confess to Sonia, she offers him a cross. He begins to accept it and then quickly gives
it back. Although he did not take the cross, he considered it. In this instance Raskolnikov was able to
confess to his crime, even if only to Sonia, and he almost accepts her religious offering. She is making
an impact on his conscious and his pride is

Alice Walker The Flowers
The 1920s were filled with segregation and discrimination against the African American community.
Alice Walker, the author of The Flowers, wrote this story to the African Americans to remind them of
historic sacrifices that were made to better future lives. In the story we see the main character, Myop,
on a journey as she loses her innocence when she comes across the skeleton of a dead man. Walker
uses a historical lens, and helps the reader remember the tragic, violent events of the 1920s. Through
the use of the audience, structure, tone, symbolism, and allusion Walker is able to further prove that
this story is a historical lens. Walker wrote this story for the African American community and it
reminds them of the awful historical events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the story Walker sets a peaceful, content, and even carefree tone, but then it
suddenly changes to an eerie or depressing type of tone. The shift from being cheery to dismal sucks
the reader in, it hooks the reader and makes them feel and contemplate the story. She felt light and
good in the warm sun. (Walker) Through the description of how Myop felt towards the beginning and
describing her innocence helps set the tone for the beginning, but once Myop wanders further into the
woods away from the comfort of her home everything changes. ...the strangeness of the land made it
not as pleasant as her usual haunts. It seemed gloomy in the little cove...The air was damp, the silence
was close and deep. (Paragraph 5) The words that aid in describing the changing atmosphere Myop
encountered assists in reminding the audience. Right before Myop steps on the man she is caught in an
eerie or strange atmosphere and attempts to go back to the easy going environment of the morning,
which is seen through the shifts in tone. This helps the reader feel and understand what Myop felt and
helps them remember the many sacrifices made. Walker also uses symbolism to help inform the
audience of the prices once

Embryonic Stem Cell Research Outline
What is Embryonic? Embryonic is relating to an embryo, or an unborn. Embryonic stem cell research
is a theory by scientists, that research can cure painful diseases such as Diabetes, Parkinson s disease,
Cancer, Heart Disease, and many other unusual genetic disorders. The Embryonic stem cell research
began in 1988 by James Thomson and his associates. James Thomson discovered how to excoriate the
human embryonic stem cells from within the cell mass through IVF, given for research intendment.
IVF is the act of removing fertile eggs from a female s ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a
laboratory culture dish.
Has the Embryonic Stem Cells cured any disease? The answer is no, there is only a possibility that it
may cure an immune disease. There are no Federal Laws against Embryonic Stem Cell research. The
National Instituted of Health Guidelines on Human Stem Cell Research (Stem Cell Information) was
published to mold the view of the stem cell research. Even though there are may be a possibility of a
cure from Embryonic Stem Cell research, the Federal Government should not give funding to this

A Research Study Conducted By The National Center For...
In 2012, a research study conducted by the National Center for Educational Statistics revealed that
only 73% of students entering high school will graduate (Mazer, 2012, para. 1). For those students
who achieve graduation, and continue on at the collegiate level, the study further revealed that only
57% or slightly more than half will earn Bachelor s Degrees, and 18% will leave college academics
completely (Mazer, 2012, para. 1). Most laypersons, outside of academics, would probably conclude
that these statistics are acceptable and reflective of a healthy educational system. Unfortunately, the
statistics reveal a serious problem existing in the teacher learner relationship. Although teacher and
learner both share culpability in the problems associated with the teacher learner relationship, and
other environmental and academic risk factors contribute to the problem, negative emotions associated
with learning, including lack of interest, are the primary reasons why students disengage from
coursework and either fail, or withdraw from school (Mazer, 2012). Hence, the paradox of how to
create interest in students still remains.
The 2012 study suggests that teachers can generate interest in the student through teacher behaviors,
thus, students who experienced intensified emotional interest in a subject were proven to be drawn in
by the teacher s own energized behavior and emotional interest in the subject (Mazer, 2012). Hence,
increased emotional stimulation in the student,

Earlier in the century, many textile and manufacturing mills fled the Northeast for the promise of
cheap land grants and cheap labor without the hassle of dealing with the negotiation of labor union
agreements (Shuler, 1999). Today, much of that labor has departed for the shores of other countries
like Taiwan, India and China for the promise of much of the same. The Southeast never fully adapted
to the idea and continues to operate as mostly Right to Work states to this day. Shuler (1999), states
that the Southeast also faced additional struggles with union organization; Jim Crow laws. This meant
that biracial unions had to be created and were immediately met with resistance due to the belief that
even biracial interactions at the union level could lead to the downfall of the white race. The author
contends that while historically we think of labor unions as only operating amongst blue collar
workers, there is a huge market available today for labor unions to become extremely active in the
white collar

Point Of View Interpretation In Henry James s The Turn Of...
In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James utilizes many aspects of the point of view technique, yet his
most palpable use comes in the form of the first person narrator. The use of the first person narrator
with the governess enables James to present the reader with many opportunities to question the
validity of her account, while at the same time adding to the complexity of the story. Due to James
clever use of the first person narrator, there is not necessarily a right or wrong way to observe the
governess s accounts, and more importantly, there is evidence throughout the text that could
substantiate both interpretations of the story. Perhaps the most important part of this technique comes
in the form of where James compels the reader to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While one could certainly believe that the governess tells the truth in this instance, Flora s reaction
paves the way for the interpretation that the governess is insane. The governess illustrates this notion
when she writes, Then, after this deliverance, which might have been that of a vulgarly pert little girl
in the street, she hugged Mrs. Grose more closely and buried in her skirts the dreadful little face. In
this position she launched an almost furious wail (70). If one believes the governess, then Flora s
tantrum could be seen as a ploy to appear normal in the eyes of Mrs. Grose, yet the fact that the
governess is a biased narrator allows the reader to conclude that perhaps Flora genuinely fears the
governess. Another instance where one could either confirm or question the governess s visions of
ghosts comes at the end with the final appearance of Peter Quint. When the governess tries to compel
Miles to admit that he sees Quint, she says, Whom do you mean by he? In response Miles utters, Peter
Quint you devil (85). Again, from the governess point of view, this scene could validate the visions of
ghosts throughout the novel, yet due to the ambiguity and bias that comes with the first person
narrator s account, one could also think otherwise. From the other point of view, one could interpret
this scene as Miles expressing his anger at Peter Quint for driving the governess insane despite the
ghost not actually

Obama wasted no time putting health care reform on the agenda, stating that they can t afford to put
health care reform on hold any longer. And at looked like an easy victory for the president, at first.
Failure, was not an option, it would be viewed not only as a failure but failure to govern, and an
inability to use the 60 vote majority that they had in the Senate as well as the significant margin that
they had in the House. If the Obama Administration failed, then there would be a tremendous political
price to pay. Emanuel knew the political price that administrations paid when it lost the battle for
health care reform. Sixteen years ago, he had worked in the Clinton administration, the Clinton effort
to do health care was a classic example of a simple minded approach to an incredibly complex and
messy political issue. Basically, Clinton delivered a one thousand page plan onto the doorstep of
Congress after a year and basically said, Pass this plan, my wife came up with it, and it s a good plan.
The chairmen, at the time, who had been there longer than them and was going to be there longer than
them, killed the bill. Around the same time the Harry and Louise ads stated popping up and they just
cost and cost the Administration in the Clinton years. They were handed a devastating defeat and
Emanuel had seen it all. Yet, Sixteen years later, Obama is attempting healthcare reform again and as

The Wild West Of America
THE WILD WEST OF AMERICA The Wild West of America, or what historian referred to as the Old
West, since the 1800 s men and women all wanted to move to the west to start a new life, have land,
find gold and silver ,and to escape the law hence the Wild West. The West of the U.S. started off from
the west of the Mississippi all the way to the west coast. With all the open land and the people in the
west, legends and stories are being made throughout time, and these stories are for the future
generation to hear about the adventurous time of the Wild Wild West. From the beginning of time,
people have told stories of their adventures, survival, the crazy gunfights, and the danger they been
through in the west. Most of these stories and tales starts off at campfires, where is told to friends and
families about their experience. Sometimes these tales were true, others exaggerations, and
occasionally nothing more than some crazy tales which seems too good or too outrageous to be true.
The more interesting part of these tales were passed along from friends to friends and from one
generation to the next, and along the way the tales grows stronger to the point they became legends
and urban myths. With all the story tellings through the years, it becomes a small part of history and
then in popular culture. Where it turns into music, dance, movies, tv shows, and cultures. For two
centuries the Wild West was molded into the american s culture that transpire in popular

Punctuality And Its Effects On Our Lives And Functions On...
Ever since I became an adult, I have struggled to show up on time. I have been habitually late to
appointments, special occasions interviews and even jobs, to name a few. To make matters even
worse, punctuality is listed on my resume. Being late is obviously highly unfavorable and
inconvienient in a world that lives and functions on schedules, clocks and time zones. A recent survey
found 15 to 20 percent of the U.S. population is consistently late, especially when it comes to work.
(ABC) Who are America s least punctual workers? The poll suggests millennials tend to show up late
more often than older colleagues. 22 percent of them said they arrive late for work at least once a
week compared to just 15 percent of people aged 55 and older. A mere 38 percent of millennials said
they never arrive late for work compared to 55 percent of older workers. Considering the fact that I am
a millennial, my continuous problem with punctuality makes sense. According to the polls, of those
who are late, millenials tend to arrive to work later than people who are older. According to a recent
survey, around 15 to 20 percent of the United States population struggles with punctuality, especially
when it comes to getting to work on time. Both statistics apply to me as I am a millennial who has
been late to work and late to occasions that were non work related. Although I ve have a recurring
problem with punctuality, this problem can be solved easily. I have been chronically late ever

Integrated Management Of Projects And Systems
1. Abstract
Software Development has progressed far in recent years, with Agile software development
methodologies contributing to the success of projects and customer satisfaction. This feasibility study
will examine the potential implications involved with implementing the Integrated Management of
Projects and Systems (IMPS) system using an Agile method. The system will assist Software
Engineers in Communications, Requirements Gathering, Quality Control, and project management.
The IMPS system aims to solve remote communications issues and technical complexity barriers
faced by non technical stakeholders involved in software projects, resulting in decreased operating
costs and increased productivity. The system will be introduced to the organization gradually as it is
development, with a minimum of disruption.
2. Study introduction
Information Technology (IT) has become a significant part of any work conducted in a technical
capacity, whether this is via job assistance, or enablement. Communications, record keeping, and
employee management all rely heavily upon IT systems to operate. Engineering jobs rely on IT
systems to augment and assist to a greater degree than other areas due to the technical nature of the
work. Nowhere is this more true than in Software Engineering, where technical details and their
representation is key to the success of any project. It has been found that face to face meetings are still
unmatched in effective communication.
This feasibility

Tesla Motors implied very successful strategies which led them to survive in the competitive market.
Tesla hired the former retail guru of Apple named George Blankerhsip. He was responsible for
opening Apple store in US which was customer oriented store. The company was able to deal with
customers directly and understand their needs. The main purpose of designing such store is that the
costumer can learn about new products and can come later to purchase the product in future. Tesla

Colombian Culture VS American culture
Culture can be seen from the interaction of many things such as history, activities and developments.
It is also represented in the form of people live. Living in two different countries is a unique
experience that gives you a new way of thinking. In my case I have lived in Colombia and now in the
United States. Despite bearing some minor similarities, the differences between this to countries are
notable in geography, festivities, economic and food. Colombia is located in South America, is divided
into five regions: Andina, Pacifica, Caribe, Amazonica and Orinoquia. It has thirty two states.
Colombia is bordered to the north by Panama, to the east by Venezuela and Brazil, south to Peru and
Ecuador, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is the only South American country with
coastlines on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, which has several islands as the Archipelago of
San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Colombia has the largest number of species per unit area
in the world, total is the second most diverse country in the world after Brazil. United Sates is located
in North America where its 48 states and Washington DC, the capital district. Between the Pacific and
Atlantic Oceans, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. The state of Alaska is in
the northwest of the continent, with Canada to the east. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the

Socio cultural Social issues include population demographics (such as growth rate or age profile),
employment patterns, income levels and population health and education. The above affect the pricing
of the product and how the product is advertised, for example. Cultural behaviour is not always easy
to analyse as it comprises many underlying assumptions which are hard to change intentionally but
which evolve over time (Mullins, 1985). Methods of conducting business are altered by these cultural
concerns. Technological This refers to the means and the methods used to produce the product or the
service supplied (Worthington and Britton, 2009). Although this involves more than information
technology, IT is becoming increasingly important. An organisation needs to know what technologies
are being used by its competitors in order to remain in the market and not fall behind. To make its
product more accessible to customers, a firm must also know what technologies are being used by
them and how these technologies affect the firm s procedures. In a time where customers can read
information on or buy products from firms around the globe, business conduct must adapt to
technologies. This is discussed in Iammarino and Michie s article (1998), which also states that
technology, computing, telecommunications, broadcasting and so on have opened up the world
economy . Legal There is an entire framework of legal requirements under which organisations are

In house women s activities invariably revolve around the kitchen stove into the house and any
improvement in the design of the traditional chulha (stove) will help in reducing the fuel intake and

cooking stove mainly used in the village area that can be made with locally available material like cow
dung, clay, soil, chimney pipe and net iron plate. (Naeher et al., 2007; Smith, 2006; WHO, 2006).

Smokeless chulha are commonly used for the heating food and cooking in developing countries in the
developing countries.
Global Scenario
Developing countries mostly consume significantly less energy than the developed nations, however,
they used 50% of energy is for the cooking food. The average rural family mostly spends 30% or more
of their income on purchasing charcoal and wood for cooking. Most of the urban poor people mostly
live in a slum area also frequently spend a significant portion of their income on the purchase of wood

Cooking on an open fire can cause increased health problems brought on from the smoke, particularly
lung and eye aliments, but also birth defects. Replacing the traditional chulha with an improved one

Observing Pre-Primer
I began the graded paragraphs at the Pre Primer level. The reason for this, is because it is the only
section in which Alvin got 100% of the words correct. In the CRI, you always begin the paragraphs at
the last level in which the student received 100% in the word list. For Alvin, this was the Pre Primer or
PP level. To determine whether or not Alvin had adequate background knowledge for the reading
passage, I simply just asked him a few questions on the topic. For instance, I would say to him: This is
a story about puppies. What do you know about puppies? What is your favorite thing about puppies?
These are just simple questions to make sure that Alvin has at least some level of familiarity with the
topics. The one topic that Alvin did not have much familiarity with was the Pony Express. He knew
what the post office was, and was familiar with horses and ponies however. So after a brief
explanation on what it was, I felt like he knew enough to continue with the assessment. 5) How long

Disability Movement
Prior to reading this article I never truly understand the harsh conditions that the disabled had to live
with prior to the disability movement. While reading this article I questioned how individuals abusing
the disabled got away with doing so for so long. Yet, while further reading through the article I
realized that this abuse may have resulted in lack of education on disabled individuals and possible
fear of the disabled. The article spoke about how the disability movement did not really start until after
Dr. Samuel Gridley started a school for idiotic children (Pfeiffer D. 1993). This was a start to helping
disabled more, but a very small start at that. Soon after the school was shut down for dehumanizing
the disabled. I feel that this idea was a great idea and start to the disabled movement but was not run
right therefore was abused and used the disabled individuals for labor work instead (Pfeiffer D. 1993).

All these were obstacles that needed to be overcome. Leaders from all four racial groups would fight
the war back home against the U.S government, while Soldiers from all four racial groups fought the
war overseas. The man power that these racial groups brought to the table was a key factor in
eventually helping the allies win the war and back home the government noticed how valuable this
was. Racial tensions would eventually be less of a problem because the more time white men spent
with a racial group of people the more they felt at ease with racial integration. The Native American
Fighting Spirit Native Americans played a big role during World War II. They either enlisted
voluntarily or worked at the many war plants (The Role of Native Americans, 2013). Unlike the
Indian removal act of 1830, this large scale removal of Indians was by choice. It signified that the
Native Americans would change their culture in order to support the war effort. On the home front
Native Americans participated in many projects that directly supported the war overseas. For example
an estimated 2,500 Navajos participated in the construction of the Ft. Wingate Ordnance Depot in
New Mexico (The Role of Native Americans, 2013). While many Native Americans decided to stay in

a person s immediate senior is unable to resolve a problem , the next senior in the chain of command
tries to solve the problem. If the senior at that level of command is unable to resolve the problem, it

Holden Caulfield Psychoanalytic Analysis
Rab Sinay Mrs. Kehrmeyer AP English, Period 1 2 March 2017 Hidden Motive J. D. Salinger s novel
The Catcher in the Rye introduces Holden Caulfield, the adolescent protagonist who has struggled
through a complete disconnect with the outside world after suffering through traumatizing events as a
child. Through a psychoanalytic lens, Holden can be scrutinized by his actions, dialogue, and
thoughts. He is described as a judgemental individual who does not conform to social norms. As it is
revealed that the troubled youth has been kicked out of his third school, and what Holden went
through earlier in his life, the reader becomes aware of Holden s emotional and psychological
instability. This is confirmed throughout the book as Holden narrates his own experiences from the
past, as well as the present, which is basically a three day span. Early on, Salinger starts with Holden
stating, I ll just just tell you about this madman stuff that happened to me around last Christmas just

Hall claims that the environment also plays a major role in the wide and dramatic psychological
variations that exist among individuals (106). However, while Holden has definitely been affected by
the tragedy, other events took place as a result of the passing of Holden s brother, which also
contributed to the decay of Holden s state of mind, and eventually led to a chain reaction. For
example, soon after Allie died, Holden s parents practically ignored him and just sent him off to
schools. This definitely was detrimental to Holden s success as his parents neglected him, which likely
corresponds with Holden having struggled and failed in three schools already. Salinger writes, they
kicked me out... I was flunking four subjects and not applying myself and all (4). Ultimately, these
events led to several psychological and behavioral issues, such as depression, emotional instability,

The Effects Of Media On Children With Disabilities Essay
Mass media allows many people in society to understand different problems and receive news around
the world. In the United States, mass media plays a big role in portraying stereotypes and creating
stigmas, especially for people with disabilities. It can be very difficult for people who do not have a
disability to portray the feelings of someone with a disability or understand how to create media that
does not contain stereotypes of people with disabilities.
When people with disabilities are included in the making of media content, they are able to debate the
societal issues related to them that rarely make the mainstream press (Haller, 2010, p.117). This means
that they can bring up problems that they have personally experienced and help educate society on
how those problems can be resolved. News about disabilities should be included in the media more
often in order to help able bodied people become aware of disabilities and avoid the stereotypes that
have been created. If a person with a disability helps make a story about someone with a disability,
they can make sure the story explains the necessary issue and disregards any stigmas. Beth Haller
describes in her book Representing Disabilities in an Ableist World: Essays on Mass Media that
historically, articles about people with disabilities rarely made it into the news, and, when the articles
were written, that they were misrepresentative and stigmatizing (2010, p. 119). In addition, an

  • 3. Organizing A Fundraising Event At The South And City... Introduction This report evaluates my own experience working within a team to organise a fundraising event at the South and City College Enterprise Day. We were aimed to raise money for Teenager Cancer Trust by selling handmade crafts. Below, I am going to reflect about my own experience and about how the team worked together to achieve our goals. Team roles and problem solving techniques will be evaluated and suggestions for improvement will be given as we have now learned from this experience. 1. Team roles Everyone in the team adopted different roles according to their skills and personalities. The roles we played were not agreed by them team but just came according to each one s abilities. The team had functional diversity, that is, different skills that put together allowed the team to achieve its goals (West, 2012). This also provided the team with different ideas to share and achieve the best outcomes (Sohmen, 2013). One member of the team was a resource investigator (Belbin, 1991 2006). She creates contacts during the fair and explored new selling opportunities, engaging people to come to the table. Another team member was more teamwork (Belbin, 1991 2006) being diplomatic and finding ways to make people agree to each other. • 5. A Long History Of Unequal Treatment Among Ethnic Minority... Introduction In the United States, there is a long history of unequal treatment among ethnic minority groups, particularly for African Americans. Unfortunately, this injustice also appears in education. Sociologists have affirmed the importance of education in shaping the economic and social prospects of individuals. As all communities in the United States have been diversified, it becomes crucial to recognize and properly deal with diversity within the classroom. All studnets should be guaranteed to have equal opportunities for quality education at school. However, racism is still prevalent in many schools today (Beswick, 4, 1990, Pennino, 2007). Racism now has different forms, like the individual instructions student can get from their teachers, and the acceptance of students among their classmates. These can have negative and lasting effects on students even when they leave school. Students must not experience any type of stereotyping, ethnic prejudice or racial violence in schools. Asante (2003) said: Racism in education can not be overcome by the expression of goodwill, it must be constantly confronted in all conscious ways (p.223). For some poor African American students, education is usually the last existing method by which they can improve their family life level and escape from a long history of poverty. Therefore, whether the education system will provide a fair environment for them, or more specifically, whether their teacher will have prejudice among them and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Supernatural Events In Macbeth Research Paper Sydney Reynolds Smith AP Lang 3/31/15 Supernatural Events in Macbeth William Shakespeare had a common theme of supernatural events and attributes in his plays. This continues in his famous play, Macbeth, where there are four main supernatural events that incite the plot of the play. These metaphysical components add drama and excitement to the play and are the catalysts to Macbeth s tragic hero downfall. The encountering of the witches, the imaginary dagger, Banquo s ghost, and the apparitions all added dramatic elements to the play including foreshadowing, suspense, subconscious thoughts, and plot stimulants. Through the combination of unearthly phenomenon s and mundane characters, Shakespeare creates an imaginative plot that establishes character s true thoughts and causes the characters to act on ideas brought upon by these supernatural projections. He has just slain several traitors in the civilization and is well respected by King Duncan and his fellow noblemen. The witches impose what they call Macbeth s fate on Macbeth and he whole heartedly trusts and believes them. The prophesies are presented in a way of greeting Macbeth with, Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! and All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter! (1.3.49 51) Since shortly after these proclamations, Macbeth actually was presented with the title of Thane of Cawdor, he feels he has reason to trust what these supernatural sisters are telling him. Sonia s humility and meekness help Raskolnikov to realize that he may not be as remarkable as he believes. He cannot turn to God like Sonia because he is a selfish man and repenting means that he must admit to himself that he had done wrong. Instead of feeling disappointment in himself he will blame his actions on the world around him. Raskolnikov askes Sonia to read him a passage out of the Bible and she reads him the story of Lazarus. He acts as if he does not believe in the story, but he is moved by it. The rising of Lazarus from the dead is a parallel to Raskolnikovs separation from the world. He relates to this story because his pride alienates him from those that love him. He longs to be like Lazarus and to be reborn, and his pride begins to waiver. When he works up the humility to confess to Sonia, she offers him a cross. He begins to accept it and then quickly gives it back. Although he did not take the cross, he considered it. In this instance Raskolnikov was able to confess to his crime, even if only to Sonia, and he almost accepts her religious offering. She is making an impact on his conscious and his pride is ... In 2012, a research study conducted by the National Center for Educational Statistics revealed that only 73% of students entering high school will graduate (Mazer, 2012, para. 1). For those students who achieve graduation, and continue on at the collegiate level, the study further revealed that only 57% or slightly more than half will earn Bachelor s Degrees, and 18% will leave college academics completely (Mazer, 2012, para. 1). Most laypersons, outside of academics, would probably conclude that these statistics are acceptable and reflective of a healthy educational system. Unfortunately, the statistics reveal a serious problem existing in the teacher learner relationship. Although teacher and learner both share culpability in the problems associated with the teacher learner relationship, and other environmental and academic risk factors contribute to the problem, negative emotions associated with learning, including lack of interest, are the primary reasons why students disengage from coursework and either fail, or withdraw from school (Mazer, 2012). Hence, the paradox of how to create interest in students still remains. The 2012 study suggests that teachers can generate interest in the student through teacher behaviors, thus, students who experienced intensified emotional interest in a subject were proven to be drawn in by the teacher s own energized behavior and emotional interest in the subject (Mazer, 2012). • 14. Point Of View Interpretation In Henry James s The Turn Of... In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James utilizes many aspects of the point of view technique, yet his most palpable use comes in the form of the first person narrator. The use of the first person narrator with the governess enables James to present the reader with many opportunities to question the validity of her account, while at the same time adding to the complexity of the story. Due to James clever use of the first person narrator, there is not necessarily a right or wrong way to observe the governess s accounts, and more importantly, there is evidence throughout the text that could substantiate both interpretations of the story. Perhaps the most important part of this technique comes in the form of where James compels the reader to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While one could certainly believe that the governess tells the truth in this instance, Flora s reaction paves the way for the interpretation that the governess is insane. The governess illustrates this notion when she writes, Then, after this deliverance, which might have been that of a vulgarly pert little girl in the street, she hugged Mrs. Grose more closely and buried in her skirts the dreadful little face. In this position she launched an almost furious wail (70). If one believes the governess, then Flora s tantrum could be seen as a ploy to appear normal in the eyes of Mrs. Grose, yet the fact that the governess is a biased narrator allows the reader to conclude that perhaps Flora genuinely fears the governess. Another instance where one could either confirm or question the governess s visions of ghosts comes at the end with the final appearance of Peter Quint. When the governess tries to compel Miles to admit that he sees Quint, she says, Whom do you mean by he? In response Miles utters, Peter Quint you devil (85). Again, from the governess point of view, this scene could validate the visions of ghosts throughout the novel, yet due to the ambiguity and bias that comes with the first person narrator s account, one could also think otherwise. From the other point of view, one could interpret this scene as Miles expressing his anger at Peter Quint for driving the governess insane despite the ghost not actually ... So after a brief explanation on what it was, I felt like he knew enough to continue with the assessment. 5) How long did the assessment take? We then took a break for him to go to recess and lunch. After lunch, the class had independent reading time. So Alvin and I took the opportunity to finish up the assessment with the paragraphs. This took a little longer, around 30 minutes. All told, the process took a few hours, with breaks in between. I could see Alvin was getting fidgety at the end though. So it could have possibly been better to break up the activity more. One suggestion I would have for myself is to administer the words and the paragraphs on separate days, this way the student is not spending so much time out of their day sitting in a chair with ... • 28. Disability Movement Prior to reading this article I never truly understand the harsh conditions that the disabled had to live with prior to the disability movement. While reading this article I questioned how individuals abusing the disabled got away with doing so for so long. Yet, while further reading through the article I realized that this abuse may have resulted in lack of education on disabled individuals and possible fear of the disabled. The article spoke about how the disability movement did not really start until after Dr. Samuel Gridley started a school for idiotic children (Pfeiffer D. 1993). This was a start to helping disabled more, but a very small start at that. Soon after the school was shut down for dehumanizing the disabled. I feel that this idea was a great idea and start to the disabled movement but was not run right therefore was abused and used the disabled individuals for labor work instead (Pfeiffer D. 1993). There is still much bullying and abuse toward disabled individuals that I feel could be improved by more education on the matter. I know growing up I was not taught much about disabilities until I went to college and further educated myself on the matter. The definition of disabled in this article starts out with a very important statement: with respect to an individual (Garcia, S. 2013). I feel that much respect is yet to be built and with further education on the matter from historical overviews, such as what Pfeiffer wrote, we can learn what not to do and how to move ... The man power that these racial groups brought to the table was a key factor in eventually helping the allies win the war and back home the government noticed how valuable this was. Racial tensions would eventually be less of a problem because the more time white men spent with a racial group of people the more they felt at ease with racial integration. The Native American Fighting Spirit Native Americans played a big role during World War II. They either enlisted voluntarily or worked at the many war plants (The Role of Native Americans, 2013). Unlike the Indian removal act of 1830, this large scale removal of Indians was by choice. It signified that the Native Americans would change their culture in order to support the war effort. On the home front Native Americans participated in many projects that directly supported the war overseas. For example an estimated 2,500 Navajos participated in the construction of the Ft. Wingate Ordnance Depot in New Mexico (The Role of Native Americans, 2013). • 34. Holden Caulfield Psychoanalytic Analysis Rab Sinay Mrs. Kehrmeyer AP English, Period 1 2 March 2017 Hidden Motive J. D. Salinger s novel The Catcher in the Rye introduces Holden Caulfield, the adolescent protagonist who has struggled through a complete disconnect with the outside world after suffering through traumatizing events as a child. Through a psychoanalytic lens, Holden can be scrutinized by his actions, dialogue, and thoughts. He is described as a judgemental individual who does not conform to social norms. As it is revealed that the troubled youth has been kicked out of his third school, and what Holden went through earlier in his life, the reader becomes aware of Holden s emotional and psychological instability. This is confirmed throughout the book as Holden narrates his own experiences from the past, as well as the present, which is basically a three day span. However, while Holden has definitely been affected by the tragedy, other events took place as a result of the passing of Holden s brother, which also contributed to the decay of Holden s state of mind, and eventually led to a chain reaction. For example, soon after Allie died, Holden s parents practically ignored him and just sent him off to schools. This definitely was detrimental to Holden s success as his parents neglected him, which likely corresponds with Holden having struggled and failed in three schools already. • 35. The Effects Of Media On Children With Disabilities Essay Mass media allows many people in society to understand different problems and receive news around the world. In the United States, mass media plays a big role in portraying stereotypes and creating stigmas, especially for people with disabilities. It can be very difficult for people who do not have a disability to portray the feelings of someone with a disability or understand how to create media that does not contain stereotypes of people with disabilities. When people with disabilities are included in the making of media content, they are able to debate the societal issues related to them that rarely make the mainstream press (Haller, 2010, p.117). This means that they can bring up problems that they have personally experienced and help educate society on how those problems can be resolved. News about disabilities should be included in the media more often in order to help able bodied people become aware of disabilities and avoid the stereotypes that have been created. If a person with a disability helps make a story about someone with a disability, they can make sure the story explains the necessary issue and disregards any stigmas. Beth Haller describes in her book Representing Disabilities in an Ableist World: Essays on Mass Media that historically, articles about people with disabilities rarely made it into the news, and, when the articles were written, that they were misrepresentative and stigmatizing (2010, p. 119).
