The Self-Serving Bias Essay
In this comic strip by Matt Groening, the main character, Bongo, is being picked on by another
character that is telling him that everyone in the world hates your guts. Generally, most individuals
perceive their selves as being better than average. We are familiar with our own talents, thoughts,
feelings, and emotions more so than anybody else s. This leads to a self serving bias. In the comic,
Bongo reassures himself of his greatness until he looks in the mirror. The mirror causes Bongo to be
more self aware of his uncertainty. I chose this particular comic not only because it illistrates the self
serving bias, but also because of the way it incorporates the mirror and Bongo s self awareness.
The text defines self serving bias as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an undesirable action cannot be forgotten or undone, then often it is justified. Social psychological
research has established, that our past actions influence our current attitudes. Every time we act, we
increase the idea behind what we have done, especially when we feel some responsibility for having
committed the act. In experiments, people who oppress someone, take the Stanford prison simulation
by Dr. Phillip Zimbardo for example, tend later to criticize their victim. The self serving bias is
universal. Even education does not eliminate this bias.
Let s discuss some elements of the self serving bias. First individuals often seem to have an unrealistic
optimism. You can call this the It won t happen to me attitude. Optimism predisposes a positive
approach to life. Sometimes this unrealistic optimism can make an individual seem larger than life.
For example, students who are overconfident tend to under prepare. Another example of unrealistic
optimism can be seem in newly weds. Most couples marry feeling confident of long term love when in
reality half of all marriages fail. The false consensus effect is the tendency to overestimate the
commonality of one s opinions and one s undesirable or unsuccessful behaviors. When we behave
badly or fail in a task we reassure ourselves by thinking that such mistakes are common. Individuals
presume that others have the same

Anterograde Amnesia In The Movie Memento
Background
Memento is an American psychological thriller, written and directed by Christopher
Nolan. With inspiration from his little brother, Nolan wrote the Memento Mori which was
eventually turned into this movie. The main character in the movie is Leonard, an ex insurance
investigator who suffers from anterograde amnesia after a horrible incident. Throughout the film
there are some other characters that Leonard interact with that he becomes friends with: Teddy
and Natalie. Teddy is a cop and Natalie is a bartender.
The movie begins with Leonard holding a Polaroid picture of a dead person. The film
rewinds the actions from Leonard holding the picture to before the man is shot in the head. The
sequence of the movie appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the disorder, throughout the movie you ll see that Leonard is forced to leave himself
notes, photographs, and even tattoos to help him keep his train of thought.
Evaluation
The psychological disorder portrayed throughout the movie Memento is Anterograde
Amnesia. According to the dictionary, anterograde amnesia is amnesia caused by brain damage
in which the memory loss relates to events occurring after the damage. In the movie, Leonard s
inability to recall the information tracing his wife s death without assistance was an example of
amnesia. His ability to only remember things fifteen minutes at a time made the type of amnesia
anterograde. People who suffer with amnesia from brain injuries have a hard time recalling

things because of damage to the hippocampus. The hippocampus is the part of the brain that
acts as a gateway through which new fact information must pass before being permanently
stores in memory (Myers, 2010).
Living with anterograde amnesia affected the character in more ways than one. The
struggle of living with the disorder caused Leonard to be very emotional throughout the

Similarities Between Willy Loman And Oedipus

Drama Essay Plays can be compared despite being composed in different historical times, tragedy
plays started progressing from traditional to modern by focusing on self discovery and less on tragic
mystery and destiny. Today, we will be comparing two tragic plays: Oedipus The King was a Greek
tragedy by Sophocles was written in 429 BC, whereas The Death of a Salesman was written in 1949
by Arthur Miller. The two plays compare and differ in ways even though they were written at different
times. Ancient Greek Drama honored the history of Athens, and as Athens was in a protected war with
Sparta also honored the power of the gods and goddesses who might be prevailed upon for protection.

Oedipus is a significant and noble human being, that is a King of Thebes. Due to Oedipus royal status,
that tragic events that have taken place involving the welfare of his country and of the people.
Unannounced to Oedipus his fate has been decided by the Gods, even before he Was born. Willy
Loman is an older gentleman having trouble admitting that he is growing old. Loman is very
disappointed with life after losing his job. His tragic event, unlike Oedipus does not move a nation, it
only touches on his immediate household. Both plays intertwine scenes from the past and the present
depicts events in a sequent that are unmatched with their chronological progression. In such a case the
crisis scene, getting along later in the report is one able to redirect the play by playing out a decisive
causal event for which anyone is liable. Traditional and modern characters differ in the style of words.
Traditional language is primarily spoken in Latin, a language that we ordinarily do not speak. As far as
Modern characters use language that is spoken in daily life. Modern drama uses symbolism to
showing meaning beyond the everyday literal interpretation and expressionist as symbols for
characters subjective emotions. Traditional plays have a five part structure of most Greek tragedies:
Prologue is the introduction of the play. Parados: is the chorus first song, offering an interpretation of
the conflict learned in the Prologue. Episodia: is a series of scenes usually debates between characters,
in which the action and events of the play are presented. Stasimon: is the Chorus s interpretation and
response to the proceeding act. Exodos is the conclusion scene, including the final lines of the chorus.
The social background of Traditional plays was more spiritual and believing in higher Gods(deus),
attending a play was more of worship for the traditional interview, then what we call

Advantages And Disadvantages Of FDMA
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a design for multiple antenna full duplex (FD) eNodeB (eNB) and
user equipment (UE) transceiver, based on recent progress in the area of self interference cancellation
(SIC). For FD communication, .i.e., simultaneous in band uplink and downlink operation, same
subcarriers are allocated to UE in both uplink and downlink. Hence, contrary to traditional LTE, we
propose using single carrier frequency division multiple accesses (SC FDMA) for downlink along
with the conventional method of using it for uplink. Taking advantage of channel reciprocity in the
case of FD communication and multiple antennas at eNB, use of singular value decomposition (SVD)
in the downlink allows multiple user (MU) to operate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

African American Freedom
Rising from the shackles of slavery and submission to eventually become a powerful and influential
political and cultural force in American Society, the African American legacy has consisted of a slow
march towards greater acceptance and status. During the years of slavery from the American
Revolution to the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the chief concern among enslaved blacks was
freedom. Post slavery, a vast systemic inequality and exclusion was maintained in the country. Both
during and after the institution of slavery had been abolished, a number of black leaders rose to
prominence as individuals who fought for abolition, greater social equity, and equal political
representation. By examining primary sources from three influential black leaders, I will determine the
primary ways in which African Americans fought for equality and inclusion. These sources are; The
Souls of Black Folk, a book by W. E. B. DuBois, an address given by Booker T. Washington regarding
the Atlanta Compromise, and a speech by Marcus Garvey on his Back to Africa movement. I argue
that from these sources there are three primary advocacy strategies used by African Americans
towards the goal of greater equality and inclusion to be identified; the compromise and appeasement
strategy, the aggressive political freedom strategy, and a strategy which moves beyond the confines of
American political and social life towards black nationalism. The Atlanta Compromise was an
agreement made between white

Army Contractual Standards
Contractual standards under which new recruits joining the Army apply through have been under
extreme scrutiny. As leaders brought up in a high operational tempo, we have spent a lot of time
discussing what we believe to be lax standards. Serving as a detailed recruiter has changed my
perception of what I felt I knew, and opened my eyes to the Army s plan for the future. The challenges
we face may not necessarily be those that we see right in front of us. Rather the challenge is what are
we leaving behind when we depart the service? The Army spends vast amounts of money every year
in the recruitment, and training of new recruits every year. The commanders, senior leaders, and
American people entrust us to train the future of The United States Army. Formations have spoken and
the Army has listened, but have we as leaders misinterpreted the answer? Topics I will cover will be

The Army s new Occupational Physical Assessment Test has been the answer. The test by design is not
to access if the applicant possess the fitness level to step directly into the job, but rather to gauge their
ability to improve with training to meet that jobs physical demands. A second level of the test during
Advanced Individual Training job training ensures collective training has been successful in preparing
the Soldier for the physical demands of their job. Should a Future Soldier fail to perform at the
required level they are subject to contract renegotiations and will need to choose another MOS based

Flowers And Freckle Cream Short Story
Do you know how you learn about your identity? Is it through eExperiences or people in your life?
According to dictanory.com identity means being a who or what as a person or a thing. For example I
have an identity, and you have identity. Identity is a really important thing. Individuals learn about
himself through the people in their lives.
Flowers and Freckle Cream is about a girl that thought poorly of herself and did not like the way that
she looked. Until her grandpa really helped her know that she is special, and that she matters. I don t
know where grandpa found it. It wasn t at all common in the mountains where we lived. But I know
he put it in my room because my mother told me later. I had cried myself to sleep that night, and when
I opened my swollen, sticky eyes the next morning, the first thing I saw , lying on the pillow next to
my head, was a tiger lily. It was clear that grandpa didn t understand, so I tried to explain why I didn t
want to have freckles and why I felt so inadequate when I compared my appearance with Janette
Elizabeths. He looked at me in stunned surprise, shook his head, and said, But child there are all kinds
of flowers and they are all beautiful. I said, I ve never seen a flower with freckles! P.G. 399 Elizabeth

Stereotypes In The Movie Brave
Disney Presents: A Brave Butch
In the Disney movie, Brave, the main character is a princess named Merida. You see from the
beginning that Merida enjoys archery, riding her horse, and doing many non girly things. It is
refreshing to see a princess in a movie that is not your typical girly girl. This can teach young girls that
they do not have to succumb to the type of behavior the rest of society makes them feel they should.
However, in other people s eyes, including her mother s, this is not how a proper princess should
behave. Merida should want to wear dresses, take a husband, and become a proper lady. This idea is
the one that most Disney movies give to young women. Ladies should be proper, extremely feminine,
and have a man to complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I love it. Here Merida is proving that even though she is a princess and it is her duty to marry, it is not
what she believes in and she will not stand for it. This is how these children s movies should be.
Women have the right to be free in all of their choices, and they do not need men to complete them.
Also, when she crushes her competition it is shows young women that they too can excel in activities
that are seen as manly.
At the end of the movie Merida s mother changed her mind about the marriage. It is decided that the
firstborns of the clans will marry when and who they choose, even though this goes against the normal
traditions. Merida is finally accepted as she is, and is allowed to just be herself.
In Stone Butch Blues, Jess realizes that the only way to be happy in this world is to be yourself. She
comes out as a butch and refers to herself as a he/she. She begins to speak out into the community
about her story and is fully accepted into the gay community. She finds herself and she finds peace.
Comparing these two stories, Jess and Merida were both different from the mold that they were
supposed to fit into to. Both of these characters fought for what they believed in and found happiness
in just being who they are. While Merida found love and acceptance with her family, Jess found that
same love and acceptance within a new family and

High School With Female And Male Learners With Special...
Where/what is the research site? The site for this study will be a local high school with both female
and male learners with Special Education Needs (SEN) and learning disability. The research will
target or focus on one of the schools with a high number of disabled students to ensure the statistics
taken are more conclusive for the study. Together with the school administration, 9 12th grade
teachers, students, and counselors we will attempt to come up with the best and efficient mode of
conducting the research. Addressing the issue of young people with disabilities requires the inclusion
of a larger audience such as the students, teachers, and administrators (Supports Center, 2004).
According to Milsom, counselor s assigned the role of preparing students for the job and life outside
school has failed to adequately present the disabled students with skills to cope with life after school
(2002). The research records the type of instruction and skills taught to the students, looking for the
relation of the information and survival in the outside world. The study will collect data by asking the
students questions related to survival outside the school and rate students according to the level of
preparedness. Through such information, the research can offer a clear understanding of the issue to
be discussed as well as the culture in the schools today concerning their ability to prepare learners for
employment environment and real life after school. Target Group The

Strategic Management of Human Resources
Training models assignment
The modern day work place is undergoing a wide array of changes, all resulted from the numerous
challenges impacting the internal and external environment of business enterprises. Some examples in
this sense include the growing forces of globalization and market liberalization, the increasing cultural
diversity in workplaces, the shift from a manufacturing economy to a service economy, or the
advancement of technology.
In such a setting, the role of the staff members is also suffering modifications as the employees are not
just the individuals operating the machines, they have become the most valuable organizational assets
(Hickman, 2005). The employees are now in charge of creating organizational value and sustaining
the company in attaining its overall objectives. Given this scenario, economic agents come to place an
increased emphasis on the relationship with the staffs and focus on the strategic management of their
human resource (Noe, 2002).
The strategic management of the human resource is revealed at virtually all levels of the relationship
between the employer and the employee, since the need for a new hire is identified, up to the point
where the employee leaves the firm. Some focal points of this strategic HRM include the motivation
of the employees, their training, their reward or the offering of adjacent incentives, such as flexible
working schedules. Overall, it is the scope of strategic human resource management to ensure that

John Steinbeck wrote about what surrounded him. At the time he was writing, the nineteen thirties, a
great depression was plaguing the United States. Many people were out of work. Many farmers were
losing their farms and homes. An extreme drought had also wrecked the farms of the Midwest and
made them into what is now referred to as the dust bowl . It was a terrible time to be poor, and most
were. People died of malnutrition every day. In California, where Steinbeck resided, migrant workers

Lennie, for example, becomes fixated on the dream of having a farm with George. George tells him,
we re gonna get the jack together and we re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an a cow
and some pigs and....a big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch and chickens (Steinbeck, Of Mice and
Men 13,14). Lennie, because of his lower than normal mentality, takes George s story to be fact and
just dreams of when it will happen. George s dream is essentially the same, but is based on if it will
happen not when it will happen. George has to dream more realistically than Lennie. Lennie wants to
live off the fatta the lan , but George has to determine whether they could survive or would starve.
George, who looks after Lennie through the whole story, fulfills, at least in a way, Lennie s dream. At
the end of the book, George describes the happy place he and Lennie will have. George seems to be
describing their heaven. So, he sends Lennie to heaven with a gun shot to the back of the head to live

his life quickly and essentially painlessly, George fulfills Lennie s dream and shows one last instant of

Myth Gender Based Wage Gap
Myth Gender Based Wage Gap
Raaga Agraharam
Soc 101
Introduction:
On January 29, 2016, The White House Press Office released a FACT SHEET on new steps to
advance equal pay for women. This FACT SHEET states that,
the median wage of a woman working full time all year in the United States is about $39,600 only 79
percent of a man s median earnings of $50,400 (The White House, 2016).
However, many scholars and economists disagree that a gender wage gap exists. In addition,
conservative political experts and bloggers promote the notion that gender based wage gap is an idea
propagated by feminists, women empowering organizations, and progressives. However, almost all the
working women in the United States, and organizations such as Institute for Women s Policy Research
(IRWP), and American Association of University Women (AAAU), strongly believe in the existence
of the gender wage gap.
This sociological issue of equal pay for women is extremely relevant in today s environment where
women perform equal work as men in many occupations. Furthermore, with almost 50% of the work
force being women, women contributing equally to the family income, and a large number of women
being the single parents supporting children, lack of equal pay over time could increase the poverty
rates for women (White House, 2016). In addition, IWPR s 2015 report on the status of American
women, states that if women receive equal pay for the same work, poverty rate among women will see

Stings
In Sylvia Plath s poem Stings , there are many important techniques used that can be easily
overlooked when one has only read the final poem and not the original drafts. The original version of
Stings reveals a narrator that relates and desires to be the Queen of the bees. Unlike the original
however, the final draft is more coded and less forthright with the narrator s aspirations. In the original
draft there are a couple of words and phrases omitted from the final that bring about a different
interpretation of how the narrator compares herself to the Queen Bee. It seems as though many of the
changes made in the poem were to make the narrators longings come to fruition while also trying to
bring the bees to life through the narrator. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By merging the stanzas together and omitting the four lines in the final draft, Plath is focusing her
attention on the humans rather than the bees. To further understand the significance of this change it
helps to look at the eleventh stanza in the original draft. The importance of the stanza separation in the
original version is seen through looking at the first and second line Black as the devil, and
vengeful/The bees found him out (Plath, manuscript). In the original draft, the stanza separation shifts
the focus from the third beekeeper back onto the bees and allows for a completely different reading
where Black as the devil, and vengeful describes the bees rather than the wound had there been no
separation in stanzas. The bees are described as though to be swarming and seeking vengeance for
their disturbed queen. Plath seems however to want to focus on the person being stung rather than the
bees and therefore omits the four lines and merges the stanzas together. In one of her letters to her
mother, Plath describes how her husband is stung by bees for being carless much like the beekeeper in
the poem (The County Dublin Beekeepers Association, para 8). By getting rid of the lines and joining
the two stanzas, Plath demonstrates how the bees of the hive would react in such a situation; without
focus on anything but the beekeeper who had disturbed their peace. The added lines focused too much
on the bees and the stings on the beekeepers face. The removed lines allow the reader to remain in the
descriptive point of view of the bees rather than going back to the narrator s point of

The Wife s Story By Ursula Le Guin
Ursula Le Guin uses techniques to put the audience at disbelief and at shook. In the story, The Wife s
Story, Guin uses irony to put the readers at sorrow for the characters like the husband. The husband
was portrayed as a kind beautiful man. A man that was good with the children and anyone could see
that there was nothing wrong with him. The woman was deeply in love with the man with many
secrets. Secrets she did not know that would tear her family apart.
The story was viewed in the wife s perspective, which the readers believe that everything she tells is
right. In the beginning, when she met him, she knew that she would be happy with him. She says, He
was purely good to me. A hard worker and never lazy, so big and fine looking. (Le Guin 1) The
husband was described as a good person with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

woke up in the middle of the night, she noticed that the husband was not there. She went into the
passage and noticed him standing outside. I saw the changing. In his feet...the foot getting long, and
fleshy, and white. And no hair on them. (Le Guin 2) She was shocked and said, I saw him, I had to see
him. My dear love, turned in the hateful one. (Le Guin 2) The wife finally knew that the husband is a

On Golden Pond Essay
One can t help but to draw links to the aging process when watching the three times Oscar winning
movie On Golden Pond. In Mark Rydell s On Golden Pond, we encounter a couple in the middle of
dealing with the anxieties and hardship of moving through the latter part of their life cycle. The older
actors played by Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn demonstrates different levels of activity, age
stratification, continuity, and disengagement theory in their lives.
Activity Theory argues that the more active a people are the more likely they are to be satisfied with

fulfillment when he begins to mentor a young boy. On Golden Pond shows how Norman over comes
his growing thoughts, anger and fear of growing old and finally death. Growing old is process and
everyone has to find our own way. It also show there is no one theory that encompasses everything
that a person deals with as they transition into old age. Lastly the film depicts how these changes

It is a sacred place dedicated to the belief in life after death. The afterlife was a main focus of
Egyptian Civilization and ruled every aspect of the society. This is reflected in their architecture and
manpower involved in the building of their tombs. Ancient Egyptians believed the soul could live only
if the body was preserved from corruption and depredation as well as fed. This aspect was emphasized
in Perneb s tomb by two small obelisks (now missing) at the western corners of the courtyard. They
evoked the presence of the sun god Re who, especially in Perneb s time, was venerated as the ultimate
source of life in grandiose solar temples built around huge obelisks. Most importantly, the interior
rooms of the mastaba were places for the performance of life renewing rituals. Eternalized in the wall
decorations, these rituals and the offerings that accompanied them provided the deceased with
everlasting sustenance. The statues in the serdab represented the tomb owner as a living person who

Cost and Value of Offering Benefits to Domestic Partnership
Introduction
According to Human Rights Campaign Work Net (2006) fringe benefits such as health and life
insurance, a pension or profit sharing has long been a way for employers to compensate their workers,
and for one company to obtain a competitive edge over another. While most employers that offer
benefits such as health insurance and dental care also make those benefits available to their employees
spouses and legal dependents, the idea of extending such benefits to the domestic partner (DP) of
unmarried employees, including lesbian and gay employees, is a newer concept.

Despite considerable demographic shifts most employers have not shifted their focus away from the

To date few companies have adopted domestic partner programs, but the majority of the employers
who have adopted these policies only offer low cost benefits such as, family, bereavement, and sick
leave. Only a small percentage of companies offer healthcare and pension benefits to domestic
partners. Some corporations are beginning to change their benefit packages to cover domestic partners
as to attract valuable employees, improve employee production and avoid litigation. These
corporations offer this benefit coverage at a price to the employee and also require that certain
guidelines and criteria be met such as proof of joint bank accounts, they must reside together, and
have joint financial responsibilities, and some may also be required to sign a form of attestation.

Democracy Is The Worst Form Of Individual Ignorance
Democracy is the worst form of government except of all the other ones that have been tried Winston
Churchill
Democracy, the availability of the citizens to vote and elect who represents them in a political setting,
set upon non hostile competition and fairly represents the views of the people was described by
Abraham Lincoln as ...the government of the people, by the people, for the people. President Barack
Obama stated on February 9, 2009, The strongest democracies flourish from frequent and lively
debate, but they endure when people of every background and belief find a way to set aside smaller
differences in service of a greater purpose. The average American college student, like myself, believe
these quote to be true. American Author, H.L. Mencken disagreed, stating that Democracy is a pathetic
belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance. Churchill was not saying that democracy is
bad, he is explaining that while it is imperfect, it is far less so than the are other governmental models
seen throughout the world like dictatorships in Russia, autocracy Libya, and monarchies like
Morocco. Democracy is far from perfect, but is a much more effective form of government than its

In King Henry Iv, How Has Shakespeare Portrayed the...
Hal and Hotspur are the two most compared characters in Shakespeare s King Henry IV: Part 1
because of the many similarities and differences that are portrayed by Shakespeare. The audience is
presented with many aspects about each character very early on in the play, and it is then that they
create expectations which can either be confirmed or contradicted as the play goes on. Shakespeare
usually portrays a character through the use of literary and dramatic techniques throughout his work,
either subtle or obvious. In this particular text, he has used a range of textual techniques to portray the
characteristic of arrogance shared by both, portray Hotspur s great honour, as well as Hal s notable
dishonour, and the ways that the two contrast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another way that Shakespeare portrays Hotspur as being an honourable character is in the very way
that he speaks. Throughout the play, Hotspur talks in the sophisticated prose form, an example being
But I remember when the fight was done,/ When I was dry with rage and extreme toil,/ breathless and
faint, leaning upon my sword... The fact that Shakespeare has chosen for Hotspur to use prose when
he talks suggests to us that he is able to speak very well with such a fiery passion about honourable
things, like battles. In the given example, Hotspur uses such a colourful description of the aftermath of
a battle, not to say how extremely well he fought, but giving a more modest account on how worn out
he was, thus Shakespeare reinforces the aspect of honour in his character. Shakespeare has utilized
techniques like foreshadowing, contrasting, setting and language to portray Hal as dishonourable.
Shakespeare portrays Hal from the beginning as being dishonourable and unruly through the use of
foreshadowing that is used by other characters. After talking about how honourable Hotspur is, King
Henry IV contrasts him with his own son; riot and dishonour stain the brow/ of my young Harry. The
heavy contrast here foreshadows Hal s character as being that of dishonour because we have just been

California Drought Here in the desert we all know it s a very dry place. You may also know that
California is in a drought as well and the dryness of our area has resulted in many continuous
disadvantages. People are conserving water as much as they can but maybe some of you out there are
not doing your part in saving our water and I am here to tell you it is so simple! But first, let me
provide some facts on the drought in California that should help you realize the dire situation we are
in. According to saveourwater.com, 2013 was marked as the driest year on record in many parts of
California including Sacramento and Los Angeles. Water storage in the big reservoirs, ... Show more

In other words, the drought can really affect our economy as well as our social life. The Sierra Nevada
snowpack, which is counted on to provide 30 percent of the state s water supply as it melts through
early summer, is at its second lowest level on record. According to Hippo Reads, it will take about 11
trillion gallons of water (42 cubic kilometers) around 1.5 times the maximum volume of the largest
U.S. reservoir to recover from California s continuing drought, according to a new analysis of NASA
satellite data.
Now you may be thinking to yourself, How can California even start to cope with this drought? How
can it go back to normal in a climate that receives little snowpack and rain? Well although these issues
are complex, there have been some achievements political and otherwise toward developing more
resilient water supplies. One way is groundwater legislation: our Governor, Jerry Brown, signed
legislation mandating sustainable groundwater management, though the law leaves local entities to
define that idea further. We have to learn to manage wisely water, energy, land and our investments,
that s why this is important, said Governor Brown (CA.gov). Another way our government is helping
is the spending on water projects.
Although the government and other corporations

Summary Of The Rhetorical Situation
In The Rhetorical Situation , Bitzer states that An act is moral because it is an act performed in a
situation of a certain kind; similarly, a work is rhetorical because it is a response to a situation of a
certain kind. It s very hard to understand rhetoric without thinking about theatrical acts as a response
to a situation. Rhetorical is meant to produce action or change in the world . It exists because of a
specific situation which it responds to in order to accomplish something. Bitzer came up with three
main constituents; Exigence, Audience, and Constraints, to help analyze a rhetorical situation. Fresh

Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary
In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story, for it is
something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Defender of the Faith , Marx is seen
struggling to identify himself by his actions, his religion, and his duty. In Good Country People ,
Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t accurate. Identity can be
formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion, and etc. This is basic
sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that chooses to be influenced. An
individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an individual can t choose his or her
biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to call mom and dad. One can even argue
that an individual can be identified by the choices he or she have turned down. There are many
influences to form an identity, yet it is the individual who ultimately forms his or her identity based on
the influences he or she chose. Marx is seen struggling with his identity in Defender of the Faith , for
he has allowed himself to be identified by his duty, but Grossbart helped Marx rediscover a part of
him that he lost during the war. By no means was Grossbart intending to help Marx, Grossbart was
only interested in his own self gain, but this didn t stop Marx to let his Jewishness out. Grossbart

Freedom Is A Fundamental Right Of Individual Autonomy
Freedom of expression has become one of the most valued features of a free and democratic society.
Freedom of speech and expression are a set of valued rights that allow citizens to openly debate,
political issues, political leaders, and government policies. Free flow of information is evidence of a
healthy democracy. Therefore, freedom is a fundamental right of individual autonomy. However, it is
very important to show contrast that there is a vast difference between the allowance of freedom of
expression in in Canada, compared to free speech in the United States, where all forms freedom of
speech is protected under the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights. (Tarnopolsky 1983) However,
under the 1982 Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms under Section 2b, it states that Everyone has
the right to the following fundamental freedoms... thought, belief, opinion and expression, including
freedom of the press and other media communication. (Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,
Section 2b) While section 2b is guaranteed to protect freedom of expression, it is subject to Section 1,
which states that all Charter rights can be struck down within reasonable limits. The Oakes Test has
been an important tool that has been used to determine whether the proportionality and rational of
invoking Section 1 was done under a justifiable and positive measures that outweigh the negatives. In

  • 2. The Self-Serving Bias Essay In this comic strip by Matt Groening, the main character, Bongo, is being picked on by another character that is telling him that everyone in the world hates your guts. Generally, most individuals perceive their selves as being better than average. We are familiar with our own talents, thoughts, feelings, and emotions more so than anybody else s. This leads to a self serving bias. In the comic, Bongo reassures himself of his greatness until he looks in the mirror. The mirror causes Bongo to be more self aware of his uncertainty. I chose this particular comic not only because it illistrates the self serving bias, but also because of the way it incorporates the mirror and Bongo s self awareness. The text defines self serving bias as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If an undesirable action cannot be forgotten or undone, then often it is justified. Social psychological research has established, that our past actions influence our current attitudes. Every time we act, we increase the idea behind what we have done, especially when we feel some responsibility for having committed the act. In experiments, people who oppress someone, take the Stanford prison simulation by Dr. Phillip Zimbardo for example, tend later to criticize their victim. The self serving bias is universal. Even education does not eliminate this bias. Let s discuss some elements of the self serving bias. First individuals often seem to have an unrealistic optimism. You can call this the It won t happen to me attitude. Optimism predisposes a positive approach to life. Sometimes this unrealistic optimism can make an individual seem larger than life. For example, students who are overconfident tend to under prepare. Another example of unrealistic optimism can be seem in newly weds. Most couples marry feeling confident of long term love when in reality half of all marriages fail. The false consensus effect is the tendency to overestimate the commonality of one s opinions and one s undesirable or unsuccessful behaviors. When we behave badly or fail in a task we reassure ourselves by thinking that such mistakes are common. Individuals presume that others have the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main character in the movie is Leonard, an ex insurance investigator who suffers from anterograde amnesia after a horrible incident. Throughout the film there are some other characters that Leonard interact with that he becomes friends with: Teddy and Natalie. Teddy is a cop and Natalie is a bartender. Because of the disorder, throughout the movie you ll see that Leonard is forced to leave himself notes, photographs, and even tattoos to help him keep his train of thought. Evaluation The psychological disorder portrayed throughout the movie Memento is Anterograde Amnesia. According to the dictionary, anterograde amnesia is amnesia caused by brain damage in which the memory loss relates to events occurring after the damage. In the movie, Leonard s inability to recall the information tracing his wife s death without assistance was an example of amnesia. His ability to only remember things fifteen minutes at a time made the type of amnesia anterograde. People who suffer with amnesia from brain injuries have a hard time recalling Running Head: MEMENTO

Similarities Between Willy Loman And Oedipus Professor Mary Lounsbury Composition II 30 April 2017 Drama Essay Plays can be compared despite being composed in different historical times, tragedy plays started progressing from traditional to modern by focusing on self discovery and less on tragic mystery and destiny. Today, we will be comparing two tragic plays: Oedipus The King was a Greek tragedy by Sophocles was written in 429 BC, whereas The Death of a Salesman was written in 1949 by Arthur Miller. The two plays compare and differ in ways even though they were written at different times. Ancient Greek Drama honored the history of Athens, and as Athens was in a protected war with Sparta also honored the power of the gods and goddesses who might be prevailed upon for protection. ... Loman is very disappointed with life after losing his job. His tragic event, unlike Oedipus does not move a nation, it only touches on his immediate household. Both plays intertwine scenes from the past and the present depicts events in a sequent that are unmatched with their chronological progression. In such a case the crisis scene, getting along later in the report is one able to redirect the play by playing out a decisive causal event for which anyone is liable. Traditional and modern characters differ in the style of words. Traditional language is primarily spoken in Latin, a language that we ordinarily do not speak. As far as Modern characters use language that is spoken in daily life. Modern drama uses symbolism to showing meaning beyond the everyday literal interpretation and expressionist as symbols for characters subjective emotions. Traditional plays have a five part structure of most Greek tragedies: Prologue is the introduction of the play. Parados: is the chorus first song, offering an interpretation of the conflict learned in the Prologue. Episodia: is a series of scenes usually debates between characters, in which the action and events of the play are presented. • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of FDMA Abstract: In this paper, we propose a design for multiple antenna full duplex (FD) eNodeB (eNB) and user equipment (UE) transceiver, based on recent progress in the area of self interference cancellation (SIC). For FD communication, .i.e., simultaneous in band uplink and downlink operation, same subcarriers are allocated to UE in both uplink and downlink. Hence, contrary to traditional LTE, we propose using single carrier frequency division multiple accesses (SC FDMA) for downlink along with the conventional method of using it for uplink. Taking advantage of channel reciprocity in the case of FD communication and multiple antennas at eNB, use of singular value decomposition (SVD) in the downlink allows multiple user (MU) to operate ... • 7. African American Freedom Rising from the shackles of slavery and submission to eventually become a powerful and influential political and cultural force in American Society, the African American legacy has consisted of a slow march towards greater acceptance and status. During the years of slavery from the American Revolution to the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the chief concern among enslaved blacks was freedom. Post slavery, a vast systemic inequality and exclusion was maintained in the country. Both during and after the institution of slavery had been abolished, a number of black leaders rose to prominence as individuals who fought for abolition, greater social equity, and equal political representation. By examining primary sources from three influential black leaders, I will determine the primary ways in which African Americans fought for equality and inclusion. These sources are; The Souls of Black Folk, a book by W. E. B. DuBois, an address given by Booker T. Washington regarding the Atlanta Compromise, and a speech by Marcus Garvey on his Back to Africa movement. I argue that from these sources there are three primary advocacy strategies used by African Americans towards the goal of greater equality and inclusion to be identified; the compromise and appeasement strategy, the aggressive political freedom strategy, and a strategy which moves beyond the confines of American political and social life towards black nationalism. The Atlanta Compromise was an agreement made between white ... As leaders brought up in a high operational tempo, we have spent a lot of time discussing what we believe to be lax standards. Serving as a detailed recruiter has changed my perception of what I felt I knew, and opened my eyes to the Army s plan for the future. The challenges we face may not necessarily be those that we see right in front of us. Rather the challenge is what are we leaving behind when we depart the service? The Army spends vast amounts of money every year in the recruitment, and training of new recruits every year. The commanders, senior leaders, and American people entrust us to train the future of The United States Army. Formations have spoken and the Army has listened, but have we as leaders misinterpreted the answer? Topics I will cover will be the Army s renewed and more stringent qualification process ... Until her grandpa really helped her know that she is special, and that she matters. I don t know where grandpa found it. It wasn t at all common in the mountains where we lived. But I know he put it in my room because my mother told me later. I had cried myself to sleep that night, and when I opened my swollen, sticky eyes the next morning, the first thing I saw , lying on the pillow next to my head, was a tiger lily. It was clear that grandpa didn t understand, so I tried to explain why I didn t want to have freckles and why I felt so inadequate when I compared my appearance with Janette Elizabeths. The site for this study will be a local high school with both female and male learners with Special Education Needs (SEN) and learning disability. The research will target or focus on one of the schools with a high number of disabled students to ensure the statistics taken are more conclusive for the study. Together with the school administration, 9 12th grade teachers, students, and counselors we will attempt to come up with the best and efficient mode of conducting the research. Addressing the issue of young people with disabilities requires the inclusion of a larger audience such as the students, teachers, and administrators (Supports Center, 2004). According to Milsom, counselor s assigned the role of preparing students for the job and life outside school has failed to adequately present the disabled students with skills to cope with life after school (2002). The research records the type of instruction and skills taught to the students, looking for the relation of the information and survival in the outside world. The study will collect data by asking the students questions related to survival outside the school and rate students according to the level of preparedness. Through such information, the research can offer a clear understanding of the issue to be discussed as well as the culture in the schools today concerning their ability to prepare learners for employment environment and real life after school. • 15. Strategic Management of Human Resources Training models assignment The modern day work place is undergoing a wide array of changes, all resulted from the numerous challenges impacting the internal and external environment of business enterprises. Some examples in this sense include the growing forces of globalization and market liberalization, the increasing cultural diversity in workplaces, the shift from a manufacturing economy to a service economy, or the advancement of technology. In such a setting, the role of the staff members is also suffering modifications as the employees are not just the individuals operating the machines, they have become the most valuable organizational assets (Hickman, 2005). The employees are now in charge of creating organizational value and sustaining the company in attaining its overall objectives. Given this scenario, economic agents come to place an increased emphasis on the relationship with the staffs and focus on the strategic management of their human resource (Noe, 2002). The strategic management of the human resource is revealed at virtually all levels of the relationship between the employer and the employee, since the need for a new hire is identified, up to the point where the employee leaves the firm. Some focal points of this strategic HRM include the motivation of the employees, their training, their reward or the offering of adjacent incentives, such as flexible working schedules. • 21. Myth Gender Based Wage Gap Myth Gender Based Wage Gap Raaga Agraharam Soc 101 Introduction: On January 29, 2016, The White House Press Office released a FACT SHEET on new steps to advance equal pay for women. This FACT SHEET states that, the median wage of a woman working full time all year in the United States is about $39,600 only 79 percent of a man s median earnings of $50,400 (The White House, 2016). However, many scholars and economists disagree that a gender wage gap exists. In addition, conservative political experts and bloggers promote the notion that gender based wage gap is an idea propagated by feminists, women empowering organizations, and progressives. However, almost all the working women in the United States, and organizations such as Institute for Women s Policy Research (IRWP), and American Association of University Women (AAAU), strongly believe in the existence of the gender wage gap. This sociological issue of equal pay for women is extremely relevant in today s environment where women perform equal work as men in many occupations. Furthermore, with almost 50% of the work force being women, women contributing equally to the family income, and a large number of women being the single parents supporting children, lack of equal pay over time could increase the poverty rates for women (White House, 2016). In addition, IWPR s 2015 report on the status of American women, states that if women receive equal pay for the same work, poverty rate among women will see a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The original version of Stings reveals a narrator that relates and desires to be the Queen of the bees. Unlike the original however, the final draft is more coded and less forthright with the narrator s aspirations. In the original draft there are a couple of words and phrases omitted from the final that bring about a different interpretation of how the narrator compares herself to the Queen Bee. It seems as though many of the changes made in the poem were to make the narrators longings come to fruition while also trying to bring the bees to life through the narrator. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By merging the stanzas together and omitting the four lines in the final draft, Plath is focusing her attention on the humans rather than the bees. To further understand the significance of this change it helps to look at the eleventh stanza in the original draft. The importance of the stanza separation in the original version is seen through looking at the first and second line Black as the devil, and vengeful/The bees found him out (Plath, manuscript). In the original draft, the stanza separation shifts the focus from the third beekeeper back onto the bees and allows for a completely different reading where Black as the devil, and vengeful describes the bees rather than the wound had there been no separation in stanzas. The bees are described as though to be swarming and seeking vengeance for their disturbed queen. Plath seems however to want to focus on the person being stung rather than the bees and therefore omits the four lines and merges the stanzas together. In one of her letters to her mother, Plath describes how her husband is stung by bees for being carless much like the beekeeper in the poem (The County Dublin Beekeepers Association, para 8). By getting rid of the lines and joining the two stanzas, Plath demonstrates how the bees of the hive would react in such a situation; without focus on anything but the beekeeper who had disturbed their peace. The added lines focused too much on the bees and the stings on the beekeepers face. The removed lines allow the reader to remain in the descriptive point of view of the bees rather than going back to the narrator s point of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hal and Hotspur are the two most compared characters in Shakespeare s King Henry IV: Part 1 because of the many similarities and differences that are portrayed by Shakespeare. The audience is presented with many aspects about each character very early on in the play, and it is then that they create expectations which can either be confirmed or contradicted as the play goes on. Shakespeare usually portrays a character through the use of literary and dramatic techniques throughout his work, either subtle or obvious. In this particular text, he has used a range of textual techniques to portray the characteristic of arrogance shared by both, portray Hotspur s great honour, as well as Hal s notable dishonour, and the ways that the two contrast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way that Shakespeare portrays Hotspur as being an honourable character is in the very way that he speaks. Throughout the play, Hotspur talks in the sophisticated prose form, an example being But I remember when the fight was done,/ When I was dry with rage and extreme toil,/ breathless and faint, leaning upon my sword... The fact that Shakespeare has chosen for Hotspur to use prose when he talks suggests to us that he is able to speak very well with such a fiery passion about honourable things, like battles. In the given example, Hotspur uses such a colourful description of the aftermath of a battle, not to say how extremely well he fought, but giving a more modest account on how worn out he was, thus Shakespeare reinforces the aspect of honour in his character. Shakespeare has utilized techniques like foreshadowing, contrasting, setting and language to portray Hal as dishonourable. Shakespeare portrays Hal from the beginning as being dishonourable and unruly through the use of foreshadowing that is used by other characters. After talking about how honourable Hotspur is, King Henry IV contrasts him with his own son; riot and dishonour stain the brow/ of my young Harry. The heavy contrast here foreshadows Hal s character as being that of dishonour because we have just been given an image, through foreshadowing, about how grand Hotspur s honour is, then King Henry gives and ... According to Hippo Reads, it will take about 11 trillion gallons of water (42 cubic kilometers) around 1.5 times the maximum volume of the largest U.S. reservoir to recover from California s continuing drought, according to a new analysis of NASA satellite data. • 38. Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story, for it is something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Defender of the Faith , Marx is seen struggling to identify himself by his actions, his religion, and his duty. In Good Country People , Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t accurate. Identity can be formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion, and etc. This is basic sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that chooses to be influenced. An individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an individual can t choose his or her biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to call mom and dad. One can even argue that an individual can be identified by the choices he or she have turned down.
