Families In Romeo And Juliet And All The Light We Cannot See
A family is the single most influential factor in the life of an individual. Being in a family brings with
it support, relationships, connections, and love that is rarely found anywhere else in a person s life.
However, families are not all the same. Each individual family structure is unique when compared to
the next. When looked at from a general perspective there are two main groups of which families fall
into. There are families whose relationships are derived from and are strengthened by social
obligation. These families are connected biologically, emotionally, or through a specific event and are
forced to grow based on the ethics of proper family structure and societal opinions. While these
families are present in books such as Romeo and Juliet and All the Light we Cannot See, there are also
families whose relationships derive from contingency. Contingency based families are strengthened by
connections that are built over time and are dependent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of family was present in the 1953 classic, Peter Pan. As part of the storyline the Lost Boys
of Neverland had established a family based on the contingency that they were orphaned. They had no
parents or loving relatives and the family that they create with the connections formed between each
other is a coping mechanism that only happens because of the events of each boy s life prior to
reaching Neverland. The concept of their family is solidified when they act as brothers as Wendy
arrives in Neverland. They shoot her with an arrow but afterwards, Curly exclaims that Peter was
bringing Wendy to them. A lady to take care of us at last, said one of the twins, and you have killed
her. The boys discipline themselves, take care of themselves, and act as brothers. That is why Wendy
arriving in Neverland brought them hope, because finally, the brothers would have a mother as an

Spin-Doctors Case Study
Since the PR ization of politics , spin doctors have played an essential role in the political and
communication processes of democratic societies. The reputation of an administrative team can be
irreversibly affected by the way a crisis or issue is managed in the eyes of the public, who have greater
influence over political power than ever before. It is the role of spin doctors to construct a favourable
narrative that will frame a politician in a positive light, while utilising the mass media to steer public
opinion. The role of a spin doctor can be challenging, especially during natural disasters. These
situations often evoke distress, panic and confusion among the public requiring an urgent political
response. In high stress situations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The floods affected much of central and southern Queensland, killing 35 people and causing over
$200 billion in damages. This disaster was named as the most notorious flood in Australian history
(Carbone Hanson, 2012). This essay will draw on key examples from Bligh s performance and spin
team tactics throughout the course of the disaster. As outlined by Louw, there are four key political
players politicians, spin doctors, journalists and publics (2010). During the Queensland floods, each
player had a specific agenda. Journalists worked to create and circulate gripping stories while
providing the public with up to date crisis information. Spin professionals worked alongside the
Queensland Government to fulfil a number of objectives including: public safety, the promotion of
Bligh as a competent leader, and to control and minimise any potential negative criticism.
Additionally, Bligh also had specific agendas to fill driven by her professional reputation and political
popularity. Throughout the crisis, all political players achieved their goals while maintaining a
symbiotic relationship, which can be attributed to the success of Bligh s

Evaluation Of A Safety Management System Essay
AVN 1106 Major Assignment

Date of Submission 16/09/2016
Abstract:
With the expectation from CASA for newly established flight operations to design and implement a
Safety Management System (SMS) the task has been set to do so for an airline with 12 regional
aircraft and 200 employees. The aim of an SMS is to monitor and manage the overall safety
operations that occur within an airline. The use of an SMS has proven extremely successful as it
solidifies the communication between operators and management. An SMS consists of four (4) main
components: Safety assurance; Safety risk management; safety promotion; and safety policy. Each of
these components plays a major role in ensuring the safe operation of an airline.
Introduction:
With the aviation industry exponentially expanding it is essential to ensure that those safety standards
which are in place are working effectively. It is primarily the responsibility of the Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) to ensure that his or her airline is not only profitable but is also safe. The balance
between production and protection is a fine line and as such there need to be systems in place to
ensure production is not outweighing protection.
Airlines in the developed world endeavour to not only meet, but to exceed the expectations of the
standards set by regulatory bodies within the aviation industry. This can be done through the
implementation of an SMS as well as by revising and enhancing

The Importance Of Insurance For The Financial System Of...
The financial market in the broadest sense is an organized location where grant and demand for
monetary belongings meet each other, the place where we have a price formation of those activities.

Dante s Inferno Love
In Dante s Inferno, one chapter of three in Dante Alighieri s Divine Comedy, the main protagonist of
the poem, Dante frequently uses romance and love as one of the main themes to express his message
and vision of Hell he portraits in the story. Dante s Inferno is an epic poem about a recounting of
Dante and his incredible journey through Hell and its many levels while he is being guided by Virgil.
In the story, Hell is shown to have nine levels of suffering depending on what kinds of sin you
committed during your life and each circle serves as different forms of punishment. During his
journey, Dante starts to understand the soul, God, and Lucifer, as he describes the nine circles of hell
being anger, gluttony, treasury, fraud, violence, heresy, lust, greed as he explores the circles and meets
various people on the way.
Love is a very important aspect in Dante s Inferno because without love he never would have been
capable of completing his journey through Hell without the guide who was sent by Beatrice. Beatrice
sending Virgil to Dante to guide him means that she still has deep love for Dante and that she still has
a desire for Dante to stay safe. This quote from the poem shows this very well, Wisdom and love will
straighten his way (Dante 1.21 22). In the poem, love is represented by God as well since he often is a
symbol of purity and goodness, a reason why in the story Dante adventures into Hell on Good Friday.
During the journey Dante encounters Dido, a Queen of

The Importance Of Employee Empowerment
Employee empowerment is important, even if you believe in a traditional type of employee
management. Empowerment of your employees has the ability to turn your organization around and
make it more successful than it previously was. In some organizations employee empowerment is
absolutely needed. They type of organizations that need employee empowerment are basically any
business that has employees who have to work together as a team. Empowerment also does not just
mean to ask your employees their opinion, empowerment of your employees means to not only seek
their opinions but implement them as well(Goetsch Davis, 2014). To gain approval from management,
I would first highlight why I believe it would be beneficial for the organization. I would put dramatic
emphasis on why I feel every employee should feel empowered. Employees who are empowered are
employees who value their position and actually work harder to meet their goals(Goetsch Davis,2014).
After I stated the importance need for having an empowerment overhaul with our employees, I would
then zone in on the things that keep the organization operational.
Employee empowerment gives the organization the opportunity to get the information from
employees that deal within the organization all day. The employees know what needs to be changed in
order for things to run more smoothly. Showing management that employee empowerment can grow
their business while at the same time making their employees feel valued is important.

Messages About Morality and Politics Conveyed in...
A morality play is a medieval play designed to teach the audience right from wrong. JB Priestley uses
An Inspector call to convey a moral message, which is that you should not judge people on their class
i.e. lower working class/higher class. He also expands the views of socialism within the message; this
is all made very clear by the use of dramatic devices. Although it is a morality play it is not in the
traditional format. Priestley makes it very clear in what he wants the audience to think is moral and
immoral. The play also conveys a strong political message. The play encourages the idea of socialism,
a society in which responsibility and community are essential, also a place where the community all

Mrs Birling could symbolise wrath, because she was angry at Eva Smith for naming herself Mrs
Birling . Shelia could symbolise envy as she was jealous or Eva smith as she thought she was pretty
and look better that she did in the dress. Gerald could symbolise lust, as he had an affair with Eva.
Being able to point out that the Birlings can be identified as the sins shows the audience how JB
Priestley highlights the idea that capitalism is itself a sin. This is also why the genre of an inspector
calls is a morality play.
Two of the Birlings show a positive reaction to The Inspectors message, who are Eric and Shelia,
however Mr and Mrs Birling give a negative reaction. Priestley uses the generation divide to show
how the younger generation symbolise hope for the future. Priestley shows that Eric and Shelia regret
what they have done, which suggests they will make an effort to improve their relationships with
others, especially towards the general public such as Eva Smith. However their parents are the
complete opposite, they are only interested in their wealth and material items.
Priestley sets out a sequence of stage directions at the beginning of the play, he applies them
successfully as a dramatic device. He uses the stage directions to show the audience that the Birling
family are cold and distant, and how supposedly capitalism has affected their lives. Highlighting he

Video Games Impact On Society
Video Games have been a growing interest to the people since the early 1980 s.
Video games have been a lasting influence on our youth and adults in today s society, games in the
making throughout their time have came from a slow pace, pixely, more of a puzzle type of games.
Nowadays games today are more real life making it feel like the game you re playing to be real life.
They also are fast pace, not as much thinking involved, just run around shoot em up type of games that
are in demand, stems the question are video games beneficial or hazardous? A Lot of people in today s
society have the opinion that videogames are a waste of time, create antisocial behaviors, and have a
negative influence on the person s physical and mental health, because they have a lot of violent
content. In my opinion video games have a very positive impact on people today and they are
beneficial by giving people a brain workout, it promotes social activity and teamwork, it also proven
to improve your psychological well being.
Furthermore, playing video games gives you a mental workout meaning playing different types of
games requires high levels of brain activity, and abstract thinking. By playing Shooter games gives the
person a more faster reaction time, this can be helpful in anything you do in life whether it be barely
getting out of the way of a moving car, catching a baseball getting hit back at you, or something as
simple as grabbing something before it falls. Kühn observed her subjects

Colonialism and Post Colonial Ethnic Conflict in East...
From the end of the nineteenth century until the attainment of independence in the early 1960s, the
countries of East Africa were under the colonial administration of European empires. After decades of
foreign rule which saw unparalleled transformations within society, the post colonial states that
emerged have been blighted by ethnic conflict. It has been argued that the beliefs of British, Belgian
and German administrators led them to completely reorganise the societies they governed based on a
fictitious tribal model, and in the process they invented ethnicity. There is a great deal of debate on
this matter, though, and its continued relevance to contemporary politics only makes it more vigorous.

As Curtis Keim has pointed out, though, for Africans it is most often used in a very similar way to that
in which Europeans use ethnic group . Therefore, when we use ethnicity this will be, for some people,
synonymous with tribe ; however, it is best to avoid the latter and any accompanying connotations of
primitivism and backwardness, so that it is clear along what lines we are talking. Carola Lentz may
well have described ethnicity as the joker card , a word that can be introduced at any stage in the
game, replacing potentially more problematic phrases and assuming the characteristics we require of
it, but its introduction is made with the best intentions; in order that we may see ethnicity as a broad
and evolving concept that can indeed mean many things simultaneously. Sir Donald Cameron began
his post as the British governor of Tanganyika in early 1925. Charged with organising the colony s
administration, he made the following statement in July that year: It is our duty to do everything in our
power to develop the native on lines which will not westernise him... We must not destroy... the
African atmosphere, the African mind, the whole foundation of his race, and we shall certainly do this
if we sweep away all his tribal organisations. Cameron s views undoubtedly reflected those of much of
the British colonial administration in East Africa,

How I Started Playing Baseball Essay
Narrative essay
I started playing baseball in my high school year. As a matter a fact, I struggled in my high school
baseball team because my teammates, who already had been playing baseball since they were in
kindergarten or elementary school, were better than I. However, in the middle way of junior year, I
made the varsity baseball team. I was glad and quite honored that I made the varsity team. However,
my happiness would soon be depleted. Although I was on the team, I spent most of my time on the
bench. I tried to find a baseball technique that I could take advantage over other players. When I tried
to find some skill frantically, I found out that bunting is one of my key factors to be a starting member.
I practiced bunting all day long even if people told me that bunting is a drab and an unattractive
strategy. Although I spent most of the varsity game on the bench, there were few times I had to go up
for bunting. Eventually, I successfully laid a bunt most of the time. At the end of junior year, I was a
starting member of the varsity team. After I got myself to be a starting member, I stopped practicing
bunting because I enjoyed hitting base hit and home run. However, in the final game of my high
school year, it paid me a prize.
In my senior year, it had been the unbelievable season for me, my team and I went into a CIF final.
My teammates and I were cheered and excited to be in the final. Besides, my high school stats were
pretty decent. I had confidence with my stats

This hardware also contains memory chips onto which the software is loaded. The software residing
on the memory chip is also called the µfirmware¶. The embedded system architecture can be
represented as a layered architecture as shown in Fig. The operating system runs above the hardware,
and the application software runs above the operating system. The same architecture is applicable to
any computer including a desktop computer. However, there are significant differences. It is not
compulsory to have an operating system in every embedded system. For small appliances such as
remote control units, air conditioners, toys etc., there is no need for an operating system and you can
write only the software specific to that application. For applications involving complex processing, it
is advisable to have an operating system. In such a case, you need to integrate the application software
with the operating system and then transfer the entire software on to the memory chip. Once the
software is transferred to the memory chip, the software will continue to run for a long time you don¶t
need to reload new software. 2.2 Characteristics 1. Embedded systems are designed to do some
specific task, rather than be a general purpose computer for multiple tasks. Some also have real time

The Neuman Systems Model And Its Impact On The World Of...
The Neuman Systems Model Ginger Weber University of South Carolina Upstate Abstract The
purpose of this paper is to discuss the impact of the Nueman Systems Model on the world of
healthcare through the use of research done in two studies by Giggliotti (2007) and Bourdeanu, Dee
(2013) and the affect the NSM has had on nursing education as shown by Clark in the Neuman
Systems Model Trustee Group records. This paper uses these examples to represent a large body of
research and educational programs based on the comprehensiveness, validity, and soundness of the
NSM philosophies and concepts. The Neuman Systems Model Fundamentals of Nursing defines
nursing theory as that which differentiates nursing from other disciplines and activities by serving the
purpose of describing, explaining, predicting, and controlling desired outcomes of nursing practices.
(Taylor, Lillis, LeMone, Lynn, 2011,G 14). The focus of this paper will be the Neuman Systems
Model and its impact on the world of nursing. Neuman believed that health was living energy that is

Spinach Chromatography
The purpose of this experiment was to learn about the analytical method known as chromatography
which allows the separation of a mixture into its molecular components. In order to illustrate this
technique the pigments found in the leaves of spinach were separated by means of thin layer
chromatography (TLC). All chromatographic techniques have one principle in common; a liquid or
gaseous solution of sample, called the moving phase, is passed (moved) through an adsorbent, called a
stationary phase. With TLC the adsorbent of choice was one of the most common coatings, silica gel,
SiO2. This compound is polar, and therefore, is frequently used in the separation of polar substances
such as aldehydes, ketones, amines and carboxylic acids. On the other hand, a mixture of nonpolar
solvents (petroleum ether and cyclohexane) was used as the solvent. ... Show more content on

The pigments of fresh, frozen and canned spinach were extracted by grinding the mixture until
observing a powder looking appearance. The sand was used to destroy the cell walls of spinach and
free the pigments while any traces of water were being removed by the drying agent (MgSO4).
Following this, the mixtures were transferred to three labeled test tubes in which 2.0 mL of acetone
were added to each. The acetone washes the photopigments from the cells and cytoplasm. In this
manner, using a fixed speed vortex mixer, the mixture was shaken vigorously for 10 minutes. Upon
completion of mixing, the frozen and canned spinach displayed three distinctive layers, the bottom
layer containing sediments, the middle layer, a cloudy solution, and the top layer a homogeneous
green liquid. The ideal separation will have excluded the middle layer, which was a result of traces of
water present in the

the level of strategic design for the global expansion efforts discussed today, will include a level of

Criminal Prosecution And The Judicial Process
Criminal prosecution develops through various stages in the judicial process beginning with the arrest
of an individual and ending at a point before, during, or after a trial. The criminal procedure is based
on the constitutional laws, statues, and court rulings that are meant to render justice in a criminal case.
The government must follow these procedures during the entirety of a criminal case. Beginning with
the initial investigation of an individual suspected of a crime, through the arrest, jailing, arraignment,
and thereafter. Although they must act within the boundaries of the law and protect an individual s
right to the 4th amendment of the constitution, police officers are allowed to conduct investigations,
perform search and seizures, and arrest individuals that are suspected of a crime. Police officers do not
need justification to stop someone and question them, but in order to search an individual a police
officer must have probable cause. In order to make an arrest, the officer must either observe an
individual committing a crime, have probable cause that a crime has been committed by that person,
or have a valid arrest warrant. There is no scale to measure what probable cause is, so at the time of
arrest, this is completely at the officer s discretion. This can cause officers to subdue the wrong
individuals or make faulty decisions. Judges have the final say on what constitutes probable cause, and
police officers must be able to ultimately justify their

thing that they don t see is that using mental and physical strength is as important in sports. Without

in sports because without mental strength you won t be able to plan a strategy to win the other team.
And without physical strength you don t stand a chance against other players. In the text it says our

This evidence from Why we Run tells the readers that both physical and mental strength are equal.

The Importance Of Corporate Social Responsibility And Ikea
The Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility to IKEA
This essay is about the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to IKEA. Corporate
Social Responsibility is a broad subject comprising of many definitions. It can be defined as, the
social responsibility of a business that encompasses the economic, legal, ethical and discretionary
expectations that society has of the organization at a given point in time (Carroll, 1979). Expectations
of society have been the key driver for how important and widely adopted CSR has become in today s
business world.
In a competitive business environment where consumers are increasingly aware of their buying power,
they are asserting their right to not only demand quality but hold companies to account to high
standards. They are concerned with where the goods were originated, the conditions under which the
goods are manufactured and what ethos a brand stands by. It has become crucial for a business to be
built on ethical practices in order for an organization to maintain its success. Over time the idea of
CSR just being an unnecessary expense has shifted, with it coming as far as being called out as a,
definitively important strategic issue , Businesses now see CSR as a method of generating and
protecting income through creating a good brand image and customer loyalty.

Paradox In The Killer Angels
The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara is a historical novel about the Civil War focused entirely on the
battle of Gettysburg. Shaara s novel is based solely off of documents that were left by the survivors of
the battle and the reader is told the story from the perspective of leaders on both sides of the battle.
The only reason that The Killer Angels is fiction is because Shaara delves into the minds of those who
participated in the battle and wrote about what those people felt. Shaara called the soldiers who fought
at Gettysburg Killer Angels which is a paradox. This paradox reoccurs throughout the novel and it
reveals both sides of man s nature. Both the soldiers fighting for the Confederacy and the Union were
called Killer Angels by Shaara ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chamberlain was once a professor at a college in his home state of Maine and jumped at the
opportunity to serve in the military. Chamberlain fits the example of being a Killer Angel because he
fights for a cause that he feels is great than the individual and worth more than even his own life. This
was the land where no man had to bow. In this place at last man could stand up free of the past, free of
tradition and blood ties and the curse of royalty and become what he wished to become (KA, p. 27).
Chamberlain took up the cause of fighting, knowing that he will have to kill people to uphold this
great ideal of freedom where any man can make something of his life. He finds slavery appalling and
is fighting against it, but the main reason he fights is to stop the South from transplanting the idea of
European Aristocracy to America. The fact of slavery upon this incredibly beautiful new clean earth
was appalling, but more even than that was the horror of old Europe, the curse of nobility, which the
South was transplanting to new soil (KA, p. 27). Chamberlain risks his life fighting for an ideal which
he believes in and will gladly lay down his life in order to uphold the ideals of freedom so that future
generations, and eventually the world can feel it in all of its glory and might. Chamberlain does not
enjoy killing, but will do so for freedom, which he values more than his own life. Chamberlain thinks
that the ends justify the means and he kills with that in

Pope Paul Vi And John Paul II
The third and longest chapter of the book dealt with how the documents have been received and
implemented in the church over the last forty years. What appears to be evident is there was a lot of
confusion in how and what needed to be done to implement the teachings of Vatican II. Gaillardetz
quotes John Henry Newman at the beginning of the chapter, it is uncommon that a Council not be
followed by great confusion. Gaillardetz shows that the two major proponents for helping to
understand the council documents were Pope Paul VI and John Paul II. There are several references to
their writings as Pope that clarified misunderstandings or built upon the teachings in the documents. A
key issue that Pope Paul VI built upon was the inclusion of the laity in the sensus fidei, in the
discernment of church matters. Gaillardetz notes in the 1980s American bishops adopted a
consultative process of listening to experts before drafting pastoral letters. The bishops took seriously
the assumption of both Vatican II and Paul VI that all God s people, and not only the hierarchy, must
engage in the central processes of ecclesial discernment. Another implementation issue had to do with
as noted in the book from Karl Rahner Vatican II marked the beginning of the church s discovery and
official realization of itself as world Church. This led to a theology where the local church not only
received from the universal church but also offer to the church universal its own particular gifts

Symptoms And Treatment Of Opioid Therapy
Introduction
In the United States alone it has been estimated that nearly 50 million people suffer from chronic pain.
However, chronic pain continues to be undermanaged with as many as 41% of patients reporting
uncontrolled pain 1. Poor pain management outcomes are due in large part to a lack of a
pharmacological intervention that is both efficacious for moderate to severe chronic pain and widely
tolerable. Currently, the most efficacious treatment for moderate to severe chronic pain is the use of
opioid agonists. Despite the efficacy of opioid therapy, in one survey 68% of physicians cited
concerns about adverse events as a barrier to prescription of opioids for the maintenance of chronic
pain1. Systemically delivered opioid agonists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brief review will focus on one such drug, tapentadol, and how a unique mechanism of action may
provide similar analgesia to classical opioids with a more tolerable adverse event profile.
Tapentadol: a novel therapeutic with a unique mechanism of action
Tapentadol has a unique dual mechanism of action; acting not only as an agonist at μ opioid receptors
but additionally acting to inhibit norepinephrine reuptake1. Previous studies using preclinical models
have shown that the addition of norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors can supplement the analgesic
potential of morphine2. Consistently, preclinical studies of tapentadol have shown analgesic efficacy
that is comparable to morphine with a 50 fold decrease in binding affinity to μ opioid receptors1. The
ability of tapentadol to produce analgesia similar to that seen with classical opioids with considerably
lower binding affinity for µ opioid receptors at off target sites suggests that tapentadol treatment could
provide effective pain management while limiting adverse events.
Clinical efficacy of tapentadol for chronic pain management
The etiology of chronic pain is complex and may be due to a number of different factors. Current
therapeutics often fail to produce adequate analgesia for moderate to severe pain

How Did Phillis Wheatley Contribute To Society
After being enslaved at the age of 7 from slave traders in Boston, Massachusetts, Phillis Wheatley had
a goal to follow her dream and do poetry. For being enslaved for most of her life, Phillis born in
Senegal /Gambia in 1753, was the first published African American author and second American
Woman author. 8 years after kidnapped from Africa, she was later purchased by a puritan named John
Wheatley. Being an African American woman in the 1700s was very discouraging and very rough, this
woman decided and made a chance for herself and her people by creating a literary art. Because of her
poor health and amazing writing ability, the Wheatley s assigned her lighthouse duty and encouraged
her to focus on her poetry. After a tragic incident, she needed something to take her mind off the

families. But in order to make this possible, she pushed for them to have literary rights. Her main plan
was to have her people be educated for down the road. So she would make that blacks could be both
artistic and intelligent. This would lead to spreading the word and to other blacks by running
advertising and telling how Phillis Wheatley would teach them. Eventually, she wanted to go global
with her work. She developed notoriety in the United States. She did this by becoming a catalyst for
fledgling anti slavery movements. Learning other forms could make opportunities for different levels
of art. Then sharing her poems and her books to local newspapers also made a big differences.

Economic Inequality In Business
Inequality in businesses has been a rising problem that has affected our nations society for decades.
Economic inequalities are often referred to as an individuals certain position connected to the persons
income, and wealth. Inequality is how individuals are treated differently and in the business sense this
means by obtaining a job, different income scale and even overall economic level itself. So many
years have passed since slavery, woman rights, and stock market crashes that one might think times
and equality have been squashed. Yet, times have not changed and the problem is still monstrous.
Racial inequality is a continuous problem that has plagued businesses since slavery. Gender inequality
has been ongoing due to societies views on woman roles. Social class differences of high class reaping
all the benefits has always existed since even the 1920s. But the ethnic background, or the gender of
an individual can also relate to the economic inequalities and position held within a company. We have
this inequality threatening different races, genders, and social classes of the business industries.
Inequality in business should be greatly taken into account due to the jeopardization of race, gender,
and social class. Business inequality is threatening the increase of race controversies around the world.
As Al Sharpton often says, we have come a long way from the days of slavery, but in 2014,
discrimination and inequality still saturate our society in modern ways. Its existence is undeniable
(Sharpton 1). Sharpton is an American civil rights activist who attended Brooklyn College. If we look
at just the business spectrum, we see that inequality exists between race; in particular among the
blacks and whites. This is apparent in businesses across the world the discrepancy between the top
business executive of blacks and whites is staggering and so is the disparity between yearly wages and
promotions. According to the 2013 survey of Consumer Finances, business ownership is associated
with a $252,100 increase in wealth for whites, but a $84,523 increase in wealth for African Americans
(Herring 4). Cedric Herring is a professor of sociology at the university of Maryland. He has been a

Personal Reflection On Officership
Personal Reflection
Who were you before entering as a Cadet in CFOT? I am a mother of a thirty year old daughter, was a
wife, registrar and ambulance coder, administration assistant, medical biller/coder. Also, I was also the
Sunday school teacher and Sunbeam troop leader in my home Corps. The journey to Officership was
long and a disobedient one, I was called at the age of eighteen, but I did not want that kind of
responsibilities. Growing up in the Salvation Army, I did not see anything positive being a Salvation
Army officer due to the fact they wear many hats. It was not a glamorous career to choose, it a calling
and you have to be willing and obedient. So I stay clear from the word Officership until I met an
officer and his family that would change my life. My goals of becoming a singer took a back burner
after becoming tangled with this family. The Lord also blinded me while I was driving to work, and
take there without being in an accident. However, this was the push that gives me the motivation to
say yes to Officership after twenty three years of disobedience. He showed me he could lead me
blindly if I would just go and trust him.
How did you change/grow in CFOT? College for Officer Training was not overwhelming for me
because I was prepared to welcome all the challenges ahead of me. My heart and soul were into what
lies ahead of me, I change and grow when I started trusting the Lord more. More so, I learn to be
humble and to have patience with everything that comes my way. The things struck me most during
the two years at College for Officer Training was, that individuals who supposed to be Christian and
in training to become leaders lack integrity. I ask myself this question how could this be, and how are
they going to lead people to Christ as an Officer and Pastor. This learning experience bothers me for a
while, but I gave it to God in prayer and focused on why I was at CFOT.
What are you learning now as you are in the field as a Salvation Army Officer? Working in the field as
an officer is entirely different from what I was taught in Training College. More so, my appointment
came without any type direction or someone there to help me transition. More so, I had to figure out

A Comparison of Jack London and Stephen Crane.
A Comparison of Jack London and Stephen Crane.
Jack London and Stephen Crane were both well known literary naturalists who died at relatively early
ages. Despite having lived such a short life, Jack London lived a full life. He has achieved wide
popularity abroad, with his work being translated into more than fifty languages, as well as having
written fifty literary works in eighteen years. His stories in the naturalistic mode still continue to
influence writers today. Stephen Crane was also an accomplished writer as well as a poet. He was
among the first to express in writing a new way of looking at the world. Although Crane is also seen
as one of the first American naturalistic writers, a Symbolist, and Imagist, the achievements which ...

Imagery is another important element which London uses to illustrate and emphasize his theme. In To
Build a Fire Earl Labor sees the mood and atmosphere, which is conveyed through repetitive imagery
of cold and gloom and whiteness, as being the key to the story s impact (63). London does rely heavily
on imagery to set the mood of the story, and in this way he draws a picture of the harsh environment
that his character must endure. London uses imagery with such skill that the reader can almost feel the
deadly cold of the environment and can almost hear the sharp, explosive crackle when the man s spit
would freeze in mid air (119). Through the use of such vivid imagery, London guides the reader
toward the realization of the story s theme; the reader can visualize the man losing in his battle with
the frost and therefor can picture man in his conflict with a cruel and uncaring universe (128).
Symbolism is also an important element in To Build a Fire . David Mike Hamilton s criticism, he says
the fire symbolizes life as does the white snow that falls at the beginning of the story. He also views
the dark point in the midst of the stamped snow, foretelling the end of the fire, and thus of life (2). I
strongly agree with Hamilton s criticism; the dark point in the midst of the stamped snow because it
not only foretells the end of the fire but of the end of life itself. Stephen Crane uses numerous
techniques to capture his reader s

F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Essay
F 35: The Joint Strike Fighter of the Future Since the beginning of World War I, key military analysts
have begun to realize the importance of airpower over the battlefield. It has been said throughout the
years that he who controls the air, also controls the battlefield . Though some have disputed this
statement, the truth has always been proven to analysts after the war when evaluations can be made.
The three branches of military that currently use fighter/bomber aircraft are the Air Force, Navy, and

Boeing s CDA (Concept Demonstration Aircraft) completely broke the mold with their design, which
was very different to say the least. Their X 32 aircraft s skin was composed of a material known as a
thermoplastic matrix , which was a composite material embedded in an epoxy resin. When heated, this
material undergoes a chemical reaction, thus forming a highly rigid component (Sweetman 64). This
composite material would give the designers the ability to re heat and re shape the wing without
having to start over from the beginning. Boeing insisted on using this kind of material because it
provided them a way to cut cost. This kind of philosophy, accompanied with their lack of experience
in building military aircraft, cost them in the end. After months of demonstrations between both CDA
s, it was Lockheed Martin s X 35 that was chosen due to their lift fan design. The advantage of the lift
fan design, when compared to Boeing s vectored thrust approach, was that it provided more excess
power (F 35 Lightning II). With the 126 month, $13 billion contract in hand, the clock was now
running for Lockheed Martin to begin production on the aircraft (Sweetman 95). Pete Aldridge, the
Pentagon s Acquisition Chief, made the announcement to reporters who the winner was. During the

Oregon County Essay
Oregon County In 1819, Oregon was claimed by Russia, Spain, Great Britain, and the United States.
Later, Spain and Russia gave up their claims, which left Britain and the U.S. to agree to a joint
occupation of Oregon. Oregon was discovered during the Lewis and Clark expedition, but the route
that they took to Oregon was too dangerous. In 1824, Jedediah Smith found a better way called the
South Pass to get to Oregon. As a result, missionaries who made converts along the way traveled to
Oregon. In 1843, the missionary s reports had inspired about 1000 settlers to head to Oregon. During

Mexicans, but when Polk tried to buy the areas, the Mexican officials wouldn t even meet him. When
the U.S. annexed Texas, tension escalated on both sides, since Texas and Mexico already couldn t
agree on a border. In April of 1846, Mexican soldiers fired on American troops, which led to Congress
declaring war on Mexico. A few months later, General Stephen Kearny and his troops marched west,
and occupied New Mexico without firing a single shot. Meanwhile, John C. Frémont and a group of
Americans jailed the Mexican commander of Northern California, General Mariano Guadalupe
Vallejo, and took over California. In Mexico, Zachary Taylor and his 6000 troops took over the
Mexican city of Monterrey. Then, they were met by General Santa Anna and his 20000 Mexican
troops. The two sides fought for two days near a ranch called Buena Vista. Finally, the U.S. captured
northern Mexico when Santa Anna and his troops retreated south. A few months later, General
Winfield Scott, nicknamed Old Fuss and Feathers , led his troops into Veracruz in southern Mexico. At
the castle of Chapultepec, the Americans met about 1000 Mexican soldiers and 100 young military
cadets that fought bravely to defend the fortress. Six cadets who chose to die rather than surrender are

Future Visions of America in Looking Backward by Edward...
Published in 1888 Looking Backward depicts a future vision of America. Utopian Boston of the year
2000 is designed in a constructive method that excludes capitalism. Through the medium of romantic
novel, Bellamy seeks to impose the idea of socialism into the nineteenth century American society.
Written at a period when economic growth went off the rails triggering the rise in unequal distribution
of wealth, Looking Backward attempts to propose a reform in social and economic systems.
From the eyes of the narrator, the novel presents a spectrum of changes and possibilities for the 19th
century audience. Plagued by the social chaos of the Gilded Age, Julian West falls asleep with
difficulty in 1887 to wake up to the Boston of year 2000, and finds out that all the evils bothering him
in the 19th century have been cast aside.
As the last sparkles of the Civil War cooled down, a period of transformation took over U.S. and the
endeavour to restore post Civil War economy initiated. The Gilded Age, as Mark Twain referred, was
a time identified with economic boom and social change. During those years, U.S. experienced the
transition from agricultural to urban together with industrialisation, scientific innovations and an
economic boom. This modernisation evolvement however, was followed by negative outcomes: as
labour demand amplified the need for immigration broke out and poverty became a remarkable issue.

Art Class Analysis
When I first arrived at Boston College, I learned and heard through my peers that taking an art class
was something everyone did Junior or Senior year in order to fulfill the core. I had inferred that an art
class was something easier than other classes that provided more traditional classroom academics.
However, I found this to be strange as I never believed that an art class was easy; in fact I believe that
an art class can be much more difficult than a class like English, Math, or History. With classes such
as those, there are guidelines, structures, and rules you must follow in a strict way in order to do well.
In Art however, these guidelines, rules, and structures are much more transparent and open to
interpretation. In highschool, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Being in a family brings with it support, relationships, connections, and love that is rarely found anywhere else in a person s life. However, families are not all the same. Each individual family structure is unique when compared to the next. When looked at from a general perspective there are two main groups of which families fall into. There are families whose relationships are derived from and are strengthened by social obligation. These families are connected biologically, emotionally, or through a specific event and are forced to grow based on the ethics of proper family structure and societal opinions. Dante s Inferno Love In Dante s Inferno, one chapter of three in Dante Alighieri s Divine Comedy, the main protagonist of the poem, Dante frequently uses romance and love as one of the main themes to express his message and vision of Hell he portraits in the story. Dante s Inferno is an epic poem about a recounting of Dante and his incredible journey through Hell and its many levels while he is being guided by Virgil. In the story, Hell is shown to have nine levels of suffering depending on what kinds of sin you committed during your life and each circle serves as different forms of punishment. During his journey, Dante starts to understand the soul, God, and Lucifer, as he describes the nine circles of hell being anger, gluttony, treasury, fraud, violence, heresy, lust, greed as he explores the circles and meets various people on the way. • 7. The Importance Of Employee Empowerment Employee empowerment is important, even if you believe in a traditional type of employee management. Empowerment of your employees has the ability to turn your organization around and make it more successful than it previously was. In some organizations employee empowerment is absolutely needed. They type of organizations that need employee empowerment are basically any business that has employees who have to work together as a team. Empowerment also does not just mean to ask your employees their opinion, empowerment of your employees means to not only seek their opinions but implement them as well(Goetsch Davis, 2014). To gain approval from management, I would first highlight why I believe it would be beneficial for the organization. I would put dramatic emphasis on why I feel every employee should feel empowered. Employees who are empowered are employees who value their position and actually work harder to meet their goals(Goetsch Davis,2014). After I stated the importance need for having an empowerment overhaul with our employees, I would then zone in on the things that keep the organization operational. Employee empowerment gives the organization the opportunity to get the information from employees that deal within the organization all day. The employees know what needs to be changed in order for things to run more smoothly. Showing management that employee empowerment can grow their business while at the same time making their employees feel valued is important. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

JB Priestley uses An Inspector call to convey a moral message, which is that you should not judge people on their class i.e. lower working class/higher class. He also expands the views of socialism within the message; this is all made very clear by the use of dramatic devices. Although it is a morality play it is not in the traditional format. Priestley makes it very clear in what he wants the audience to think is moral and immoral. The play also conveys a strong political message. The play encourages the idea of socialism, a society in which responsibility and community are essential, also a place where the community all work together and are responsible ... Shelia could symbolise envy as she was jealous or Eva smith as she thought she was pretty and look better that she did in the dress. Gerald could symbolise lust, as he had an affair with Eva. Being able to point out that the Birlings can be identified as the sins shows the audience how JB Priestley highlights the idea that capitalism is itself a sin. This is also why the genre of an inspector calls is a morality play. Two of the Birlings show a positive reaction to The Inspectors message, who are Eric and Shelia, however Mr and Mrs Birling give a negative reaction. Priestley uses the generation divide to show how the younger generation symbolise hope for the future. Priestley shows that Eric and Shelia regret what they have done, which suggests they will make an effort to improve their relationships with others, especially towards the general public such as Eva Smith. However their parents are the complete opposite, they are only interested in their wealth and material items. Priestley sets out a sequence of stage directions at the beginning of the play, he applies them successfully as a dramatic device. He uses the stage directions to show the audience that the Birling family are cold and distant, and how supposedly capitalism has affected their lives. Highlighting he gap between ... Video games have been a lasting influence on our youth and adults in today s society, games in the making throughout their time have came from a slow pace, pixely, more of a puzzle type of games. Nowadays games today are more real life making it feel like the game you re playing to be real life. They also are fast pace, not as much thinking involved, just run around shoot em up type of games that are in demand, stems the question are video games beneficial or hazardous? A Lot of people in today s society have the opinion that videogames are a waste of time, create antisocial behaviors, and have a negative influence on the person s physical and mental health, because they have a lot of violent content. In my opinion video games have a very positive impact on people today and they are beneficial by giving people a brain workout, it promotes social activity and teamwork, it also proven to improve your psychological well being. Furthermore, playing video games gives you a mental workout meaning playing different types of games requires high levels of brain activity, and abstract thinking. By playing Shooter games gives the person a more faster reaction time, this can be helpful in anything you do in life whether it be barely getting out of the way of a moving car, catching a baseball getting hit back at you, or something as simple as grabbing something before it falls. • 10. Colonialism and Post Colonial Ethnic Conflict in East... From the end of the nineteenth century until the attainment of independence in the early 1960s, the countries of East Africa were under the colonial administration of European empires. After decades of foreign rule which saw unparalleled transformations within society, the post colonial states that emerged have been blighted by ethnic conflict. It has been argued that the beliefs of British, Belgian and German administrators led them to completely reorganise the societies they governed based on a fictitious tribal model, and in the process they invented ethnicity. There is a great deal of debate on this matter, though, and its continued relevance to contemporary politics only makes it more vigorous. Before we go on to analyse to what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Curtis Keim has pointed out, though, for Africans it is most often used in a very similar way to that in which Europeans use ethnic group . Therefore, when we use ethnicity this will be, for some people, synonymous with tribe ; however, it is best to avoid the latter and any accompanying connotations of primitivism and backwardness, so that it is clear along what lines we are talking. Carola Lentz may well have described ethnicity as the joker card , a word that can be introduced at any stage in the game, replacing potentially more problematic phrases and assuming the characteristics we require of it, but its introduction is made with the best intentions; in order that we may see ethnicity as a broad and evolving concept that can indeed mean many things simultaneously. Sir Donald Cameron began his post as the British governor of Tanganyika in early 1925. Charged with organising the colony s administration, he made the following statement in July that year: It is our duty to do everything in our power to develop the native on lines which will not westernise him... • 11. How I Started Playing Baseball Essay Narrative essay I started playing baseball in my high school year. As a matter a fact, I struggled in my high school baseball team because my teammates, who already had been playing baseball since they were in kindergarten or elementary school, were better than I. However, in the middle way of junior year, I made the varsity baseball team. I was glad and quite honored that I made the varsity team. However, my happiness would soon be depleted. Although I was on the team, I spent most of my time on the bench. I tried to find a baseball technique that I could take advantage over other players. When I tried to find some skill frantically, I found out that bunting is one of my key factors to be a starting member. I practiced bunting all day long even if people told me that bunting is a drab and an unattractive strategy. Although I spent most of the varsity game on the bench, there were few times I had to go up for bunting. Eventually, I successfully laid a bunt most of the time. At the end of junior year, I was a starting member of the varsity team. After I got myself to be a starting member, I stopped practicing bunting because I enjoyed hitting base hit and home run. However, in the final game of my high school year, it paid me a prize. In my senior year, it had been the unbelievable season for me, my team and I went into a CIF final. In order to illustrate this technique the pigments found in the leaves of spinach were separated by means of thin layer chromatography (TLC). All chromatographic techniques have one principle in common; a liquid or gaseous solution of sample, called the moving phase, is passed (moved) through an adsorbent, called a stationary phase. With TLC the adsorbent of choice was one of the most common coatings, silica gel, SiO2. This compound is polar, and therefore, is frequently used in the separation of polar substances such as aldehydes, ketones, amines and carboxylic acids. • 19. Criminal Prosecution And The Judicial Process Criminal prosecution develops through various stages in the judicial process beginning with the arrest of an individual and ending at a point before, during, or after a trial. The criminal procedure is based on the constitutional laws, statues, and court rulings that are meant to render justice in a criminal case. The government must follow these procedures during the entirety of a criminal case. Beginning with the initial investigation of an individual suspected of a crime, through the arrest, jailing, arraignment, and thereafter. Although they must act within the boundaries of the law and protect an individual s right to the 4th amendment of the constitution, police officers are allowed to conduct investigations, perform search and seizures, and arrest individuals that are suspected of a crime. Police officers do not need justification to stop someone and question them, but in order to search an individual a police officer must have probable cause. In order to make an arrest, the officer must either observe an individual committing a crime, have probable cause that a crime has been committed by that person, or have a valid arrest warrant. There is no scale to measure what probable cause is, so at the time of arrest, this is completely at the officer s discretion. This can cause officers to subdue the wrong individuals or make faulty decisions. Judges have the final say on what constitutes probable cause, and police officers must be able to ultimately justify their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corporate Social Responsibility is a broad subject comprising of many definitions. It can be defined as, the social responsibility of a business that encompasses the economic, legal, ethical and discretionary expectations that society has of the organization at a given point in time (Carroll, 1979). Expectations of society have been the key driver for how important and widely adopted CSR has become in today s business world. In a competitive business environment where consumers are increasingly aware of their buying power, they are asserting their right to not only demand quality but hold companies to account to high standards. They are concerned with where the goods were originated, the conditions under which the goods are manufactured and what ethos a brand stands by. It has become crucial for a business to be built on ethical practices in order for an organization to maintain its success. This was the land where no man had to bow. In this place at last man could stand up free of the past, free of tradition and blood ties and the curse of royalty and become what he wished to become (KA, p. 27). Chamberlain took up the cause of fighting, knowing that he will have to kill people to uphold this great ideal of freedom where any man can make something of his life. • 25. Pope Paul Vi And John Paul II The third and longest chapter of the book dealt with how the documents have been received and implemented in the church over the last forty years. What appears to be evident is there was a lot of confusion in how and what needed to be done to implement the teachings of Vatican II. Gaillardetz quotes John Henry Newman at the beginning of the chapter, it is uncommon that a Council not be followed by great confusion. Gaillardetz shows that the two major proponents for helping to understand the council documents were Pope Paul VI and John Paul II. There are several references to their writings as Pope that clarified misunderstandings or built upon the teachings in the documents. A key issue that Pope Paul VI built upon was the inclusion of the laity in the sensus fidei, in the discernment of church matters. Gaillardetz notes in the 1980s American bishops adopted a consultative process of listening to experts before drafting pastoral letters. The bishops took seriously the assumption of both Vatican II and Paul VI that all God s people, and not only the hierarchy, must engage in the central processes of ecclesial discernment. Another implementation issue had to do with as noted in the book from Karl Rahner Vatican II marked the beginning of the church s discovery and official realization of itself as world Church. This led to a theology where the local church not only received from the universal church but also offer to the church universal its own particular gifts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently, the most efficacious treatment for moderate to severe chronic pain is the use of opioid agonists. Tapentadol: a novel therapeutic with a unique mechanism of action Tapentadol has a unique dual mechanism of action; acting not only as an agonist at μ opioid receptors but additionally acting to inhibit norepinephrine reuptake1. Previous studies using preclinical models have shown that the addition of norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors can supplement the analgesic potential of morphine2. Consistently, preclinical studies of tapentadol have shown analgesic efficacy that is comparable to morphine with a 50 fold decrease in binding affinity to μ opioid receptors1. The ability of tapentadol to produce analgesia similar to that seen with classical opioids with considerably lower binding affinity for µ opioid receptors at off target sites suggests that tapentadol treatment could provide effective pain management while limiting adverse events. • 29. Economic Inequality In Business Inequality in businesses has been a rising problem that has affected our nations society for decades. Economic inequalities are often referred to as an individuals certain position connected to the persons income, and wealth. Inequality is how individuals are treated differently and in the business sense this means by obtaining a job, different income scale and even overall economic level itself. So many years have passed since slavery, woman rights, and stock market crashes that one might think times and equality have been squashed. Yet, times have not changed and the problem is still monstrous. Racial inequality is a continuous problem that has plagued businesses since slavery. Gender inequality has been ongoing due to societies views on woman roles. Social class differences of high class reaping all the benefits has always existed since even the 1920s. But the ethnic background, or the gender of an individual can also relate to the economic inequalities and position held within a company. We have this inequality threatening different races, genders, and social classes of the business industries. Inequality in business should be greatly taken into account due to the jeopardization of race, gender, and social class. Business inequality is threatening the increase of race controversies around the world. As Al Sharpton often says, we have come a long way from the days of slavery, but in 2014, discrimination and inequality still saturate our society in modern ways. Its existence is undeniable (Sharpton 1). Sharpton is an American civil rights activist who attended Brooklyn College. If we look at just the business spectrum, we see that inequality exists between race; in particular among the blacks and whites. This is apparent in businesses across the world the discrepancy between the top business executive of blacks and whites is staggering and so is the disparity between yearly wages and promotions. According to the 2013 survey of Consumer Finances, business ownership is associated with a $252,100 increase in wealth for whites, but a $84,523 increase in wealth for African Americans (Herring 4). • 32. Personal Reflection On Officership Personal Reflection Who were you before entering as a Cadet in CFOT? I am a mother of a thirty year old daughter, was a wife, registrar and ambulance coder, administration assistant, medical biller/coder. Also, I was also the Sunday school teacher and Sunbeam troop leader in my home Corps. The journey to Officership was long and a disobedient one, I was called at the age of eighteen, but I did not want that kind of responsibilities. Growing up in the Salvation Army, I did not see anything positive being a Salvation Army officer due to the fact they wear many hats. It was not a glamorous career to choose, it a calling and you have to be willing and obedient. So I stay clear from the word Officership until I met an officer and his family that would change my life. My goals of becoming a singer took a back burner after becoming tangled with this family. The Lord also blinded me while I was driving to work, and take there without being in an accident. However, this was the push that gives me the motivation to say yes to Officership after twenty three years of disobedience. He showed me he could lead me blindly if I would just go and trust him. How did you change/grow in CFOT? College for Officer Training was not overwhelming for me because I was prepared to welcome all the challenges ahead of me. My heart and soul were into what lies ahead of me, I change and grow when I started trusting the Lord more. More so, I learn to be humble and to have patience with everything that comes my way. The things struck me most during the two years at College for Officer Training was, that individuals who supposed to be Christian and in training to become leaders lack integrity. I ask myself this question how could this be, and how are they going to lead people to Christ as an Officer and Pastor. This learning experience bothers me for a while, but I gave it to God in prayer and focused on why I was at CFOT. What are you learning now as you are in the field as a Salvation Army Officer? Working in the field as an officer is entirely different from what I was taught in Training College. More so, my appointment came without any type direction or someone there to help me transition. More so, I had to figure out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. A Comparison of Jack London and Stephen Crane. A Comparison of Jack London and Stephen Crane. Jack London and Stephen Crane were both well known literary naturalists who died at relatively early ages. Despite having lived such a short life, Jack London lived a full life. He has achieved wide popularity abroad, with his work being translated into more than fifty languages, as well as having written fifty literary works in eighteen years. His stories in the naturalistic mode still continue to influence writers today. Stephen Crane was also an accomplished writer as well as a poet. He was among the first to express in writing a new way of looking at the world. Although Crane is also seen as one of the first American naturalistic writers, a Symbolist, and Imagist, the achievements which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imagery is another important element which London uses to illustrate and emphasize his theme. In To Build a Fire Earl Labor sees the mood and atmosphere, which is conveyed through repetitive imagery of cold and gloom and whiteness, as being the key to the story s impact (63). London does rely heavily on imagery to set the mood of the story, and in this way he draws a picture of the harsh environment that his character must endure. London uses imagery with such skill that the reader can almost feel the deadly cold of the environment and can almost hear the sharp, explosive crackle when the man s spit would freeze in mid air (119). Through the use of such vivid imagery, London guides the reader toward the realization of the story s theme; the reader can visualize the man losing in his battle with the frost and therefor can picture man in his conflict with a cruel and uncaring universe (128). Symbolism is also an important element in To Build a Fire . David Mike Hamilton s criticism, he says the fire symbolizes life as does the white snow that falls at the beginning of the story. He also views the dark point in the midst of the stamped snow, foretelling the end of the fire, and thus of life (2). I strongly agree with Hamilton s criticism; the dark point in the midst of the stamped snow because it not only foretells the end of the fire but of the end of life itself. • 34. F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Essay F 35: The Joint Strike Fighter of the Future Since the beginning of World War I, key military analysts have begun to realize the importance of airpower over the battlefield. It has been said throughout the years that he who controls the air, also controls the battlefield . Though some have disputed this statement, the truth has always been proven to analysts after the war when evaluations can be made. The three branches of military that currently use fighter/bomber aircraft are the Air Force, Navy, and Marines. During the military s vast aviation history, all three branches of service have used separate aircraft. In his book Ultimate Fighter , Bill Sweetman, an experienced aviation journalist, states that if there was one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boeing s CDA (Concept Demonstration Aircraft) completely broke the mold with their design, which was very different to say the least. Their X 32 aircraft s skin was composed of a material known as a thermoplastic matrix , which was a composite material embedded in an epoxy resin. When heated, this material undergoes a chemical reaction, thus forming a highly rigid component (Sweetman 64). This composite material would give the designers the ability to re heat and re shape the wing without having to start over from the beginning. Boeing insisted on using this kind of material because it provided them a way to cut cost. This kind of philosophy, accompanied with their lack of experience in building military aircraft, cost them in the end. After months of demonstrations between both CDA s, it was Lockheed Martin s X 35 that was chosen due to their lift fan design. The advantage of the lift fan design, when compared to Boeing s vectored thrust approach, was that it provided more excess power (F 35 Lightning II). With the 126 month, $13 billion contract in hand, the clock was now running for Lockheed Martin to begin production on the aircraft (Sweetman 95). Pete Aldridge, the Pentagon s Acquisition Chief, made the announcement to reporters who the winner was. During the press conference, Aldridge was asked by a reporter ... • 35. Ati Cell Essay Human subjects and ATII cell isolation Human lungs were donated for medical research by the Gift of Life Donor Program from deidentified control non smoker and smoker organ donors. We selected donors with lung function with a PaO2/FIO2 ratio of 250, a clinical history and x ray that did not indicate infection, and limited time on a ventilator. Non smokers were individuals who never smoked and smokers smoked 5 20 cigarettes per day for at least 3 years. Lung tissue from patients with emphysema (GOLD IV) was obtained from lung volume reduction surgery through Temple Biobank at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA (N = ... per group). The purity of ATII cells was ~95% after adherence in culture as we determined by staining for cytokeratin CAM 5.2 [15]. Chest CT scans ADD cores to supplementary Patients underwent volumetric CT scans of the chest at full inspiration (standard dose = 200mAs) and at end tidal expiration (low dose = 50 mAs). Detailed CT protocols have been previously published [17]. Performed CT scans were subjected to a standard quality control procedure. We used 3D SLICER software for computerized image analysis [18]. Emphysema was quantified by the percent of the lung voxels on inspiratory CT scan with attenuation −950 HU (Insp−950) [19]. It was considered absent in subjects with values for Insp−950 ( removed HTML ) 14% in smokers. We obtained lung tissue cores from areas with mild and severe emphysema from the same patient from transplantation as previously described (N=8) [21]. Briefly, lungs were removed from the thorax, inflated with air and frozen using liquid nitrogen vapor followed by cutting into 2 cm thick slices in the same plane as the CT scan. Lung tissue cores were collected from areas with mild and severe emphysema using a sharpened steel cylinder diameter of 1 cm. They were processed for Western blotting as descried below. Subjects provided written informed consent prior to surgery for use of these specimens and the relevant clinical and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sparrow is a member is of the Musqueam group and has certain rules to follow under this. The appellant has admitted to the act, but has claimed there is an existing aboriginal right to fish. This issue falls under Section 35(1) of the Constitution act of 1982, and Sparrow has claimed the Act is inconsistent as he is just exerting his rights as an aboriginal. The respondent in the Supreme Court has argued that section 35(1) only protects this aboriginal right in food related cases. • 37. Oregon County Essay Oregon County In 1819, Oregon was claimed by Russia, Spain, Great Britain, and the United States. Later, Spain and Russia gave up their claims, which left Britain and the U.S. to agree to a joint occupation of Oregon. Oregon was discovered during the Lewis and Clark expedition, but the route that they took to Oregon was too dangerous. In 1824, Jedediah Smith found a better way called the South Pass to get to Oregon. As a result, missionaries who made converts along the way traveled to Oregon. In 1843, the missionary s reports had inspired about 1000 settlers to head to Oregon. During the 1844 presidential campaign, Polk promised that the U.S. would annex all of Oregon County. These territories belonged to the Mexicans, but when Polk tried to buy the areas, the Mexican officials wouldn t even meet him. When the U.S. annexed Texas, tension escalated on both sides, since Texas and Mexico already couldn t agree on a border. In April of 1846, Mexican soldiers fired on American troops, which led to Congress declaring war on Mexico. A few months later, General Stephen Kearny and his troops marched west, and occupied New Mexico without firing a single shot. Meanwhile, John C. Frémont and a group of Americans jailed the Mexican commander of Northern California, General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, and took over California. In Mexico, Zachary Taylor and his 6000 troops took over the Mexican city of Monterrey. Then, they were met by General Santa Anna and his 20000 Mexican troops. The two sides fought for two days near a ranch called Buena Vista. Finally, the U.S. captured northern Mexico when Santa Anna and his troops retreated south. A few months later, General Winfield Scott, nicknamed Old Fuss and Feathers , led his troops into Veracruz in southern Mexico. At the castle of Chapultepec, the Americans met about 1000 Mexican soldiers and 100 young military cadets that fought bravely to defend the fortress. Six cadets who chose to die rather than surrender are still honored in Mexico as Los Niños Héroes. Mexico city was captured in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Future Visions of America in Looking Backward by Edward... Published in 1888 Looking Backward depicts a future vision of America. Utopian Boston of the year 2000 is designed in a constructive method that excludes capitalism. Through the medium of romantic novel, Bellamy seeks to impose the idea of socialism into the nineteenth century American society. Written at a period when economic growth went off the rails triggering the rise in unequal distribution of wealth, Looking Backward attempts to propose a reform in social and economic systems. From the eyes of the narrator, the novel presents a spectrum of changes and possibilities for the 19th century audience. Plagued by the social chaos of the Gilded Age, Julian West falls asleep with difficulty in 1887 to wake up to the Boston of year 2000, and finds out that all the evils bothering him in the 19th century have been cast aside. As the last sparkles of the Civil War cooled down, a period of transformation took over U.S. and the endeavour to restore post Civil War economy initiated. The Gilded Age, as Mark Twain referred, was a time identified with economic boom and social change. During those years, U.S. experienced the transition from agricultural to urban together with industrialisation, scientific innovations and an economic boom. This modernisation evolvement however, was followed by negative outcomes: as labour demand amplified the need for immigration broke out and poverty became a remarkable issue. • 39. Art Class Analysis When I first arrived at Boston College, I learned and heard through my peers that taking an art class was something everyone did Junior or Senior year in order to fulfill the core. I had inferred that an art class was something easier than other classes that provided more traditional classroom academics. However, I found this to be strange as I never believed that an art class was easy; in fact I believe that an art class can be much more difficult than a class like English, Math, or History. With classes such as those, there are guidelines, structures, and rules you must follow in a strict way in order to do well. In Art however, these guidelines, rules, and structures are much more transparent and open to interpretation. In highschool, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
