Brian Snare Analysis
The intricate universe of mergers is often a chaotic endeavor for many musicians, one where few
artists have found success unless that artist s name is Brian Eno. But let it be a pair of Canadian
producers to subvert this notion. A master at exercising the dichotomy between electronic
intelligentsia and the dark confines of breakcore, Venetian Snares (Aaron Funk) teams up with
prolific producer Daniel Lanois, whose name is attached to projects like U2 s The Joshua Tree and
Brian Eno s Apollo Atmospheres Soundtracks. As two preeminent musical minds come together to
bounce ideas off one another, Venetian Snares and Daniel Lanois self titled project witnesses the
duo pulling in their respective sonic backgrounds to devise contemporary terrains of sound while
pushing each other s unique talents into untouchable acclivities.... Show more content on

Although largely improvised, almost every composition off this album follows a similar ebb n
flow like structure. Take the track Night Mxcmpv1 P74 for instance, Lanois initiates the listener
s experience with swathes of ambient bliss but is then kicked into full lunacy as Funk s zany drill
and bass peppers in and out of a veil of shimmering chords. This unusual marriage of synthetic
styles has only been accomplished by one other electronic artist prior, by none other than Aphex
Twin with his masterful body of work. With this unlikely masterpiece, Funk, a pillar of IDM, does
what he does best and finds that menacing place where synthetic drum and bass repeat, speed up,
then abruptly punctuate at the mercy of industrial whirls of high hats and paradoxically cool

The Fountain Reflection
The Fountain, directed by Darren Aronofsky, is a dramatic sci fi esque film centered around the
main character, Tommy. The film begins in the past setting with the line, Let s finish this . These
three words capture the film s entire conflict, death. Every living thing dies, however it takes the
span of the movie for Tommy to realize this. In the beginning, he is weary of death, believing that it
is a disease. Present Tommy is obsessed on saving his wife Izzi from her fatal brain tumor, while
Future Tommy is taking a tree, presumably Izzi, to Shibalba to be healed. He is unable to accept
the death of someone that he loves, and therefore puts all his time and efforts into curing death.
Even in the past, Queen Isabella of Spain asks Tommy to find eternal life to save Spain, leading
him in a mindless quest for the tree of life and a brutal death when he does find his goal. All the
while, present day Izzi has come to accept her own death. She is content in her life. Tommy does
not recognize this, putting his wife second to her illness. We can see this when she asks him to
take a walk with her, to which he denies. This scene replays throughout the movie, highlighting
Tommy s mistake of choosing his work over her. In doing this, he losses his wedding ring because
he is no longer worthy of wearing it.
In her freetime, Izzi had been writing a book. When Izzi is sick in the hospital, he bring her, her
journal. Izzi, however, asks Tommy to finish the last chapter. During her

The As A World Of Perfection And Reality
Art is a collection of artworks that reflects a message for the audience to interpret. Each piece of
artwork is expressed in different forms that communicate an individual s thoughts and emotions to
another person. Every artist has their own individual style which makes them different from the
rest. Although artists have similar styles, viewers have their own interpretation when they are
analyzing a piece of art in depth. Philosophers claim the uniqueness of art comes from all the
creative ideas in one s mind. Nietzsche believes the appearance of objects matters more than reality
of objects but Dewey would disagree. Friedrich Nietzscheintroduces the art world of dreams and
reality. These are two different qualities that represents Apollonian and Dionysus art. According
to Nietzsche, he describes dreams as a world of perfection and reality as a world of imperfection.
In the excerpt The Birth of Tragedy, he writes, In our dreams we delight in the immediate
understanding of figures; all forms speak to us; there is nothing unimportant or superfluous
(Nietzsche 163). By dreaming, it is possible to fantasize about your desires positively. On the
other hand, reality forces you to become aware of your true thoughts and how you are currently
living your life. The author clearly explains the reality in which we live and have our being is also
mere appearance, and that another, quite different reality lies beneath it (Nietzsche 163). When we
are either doing real life activities

A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases
A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) STDs are among the very significant and
preventable public health issues affecting the society and the globe at large today. In the
development stage of human beings, it is of significance that they involve themselves in sexual
activities. At this development stage, it is of note that adolescents mostly are at risk of
contracting STDs. This is in all cultures because sexual activity is highest during the adolescent
stage. This calls for early intervention to help them deal with this health problem. Educating the
adolescents to abstain, and use contraceptives in early sexual activities, are the most important
factors to deal with this issue (Oncel, Kulakac, Akcan, Eravsar Dedeoglu, 2011). Knowledge of
STDs does not have to influence the sexual behavior. Most adolescents are ignorant on how STDs
transmit. Lack of sexual information is the main cause of the increase in sexual activity among the
youth. Many male and female youth ignore the physiological and psychological development of
their bodies. This research aims to examine the sexual knowledge and behavior of adolescents
towards the subject matter, STDs, to determine some factors including age, sex, and family status
affecting the involvement of the respondents in sexual acts (Oncel et. al., 2011). Research work
reveals that the awareness of the adolescents about sexuality and STDs appears to be inadequate.
This mainly is because of the ignorance of health workers.

Theme Of Courage In A Lesson Before Dying
Almost everyone knows the right things to do. When a bully is picking on a victim, people around
them know the right thing to do stand up for the victim. However, knowing the right thing to do
and doing the right thing are two very different things the difference is courage. This is shown
clearly in Ernest Gaines novel, A Lesson Before Dying, in Henrik Ibsens play, A Doll s House, and
a quote from the movie Hidden Figures. Courage is shown through Grant, Nora, and that there s
no bathroom for me here (0:31) from Hidden Figures respectively. In A Lesson Before Dying by
author Ernest J Gaines, Grant is the protagonist who is trying to do the right thing for his people.
Grant is in a very turbulent situation, having to make Jefferson into a man by the time he is
executed. This is the central plot of the story, but not the main themes and ideas of it. Grant is
struggling to help Jefferson because he sees generations of injustice through him. We got our first
load of wood last week, [Grant] told him. Nothing changes, he said. (Gaines, 53). The response
Grant s teacher gives him has a deeper meaning: he as Grants teacher failed to change the injustice
and racism and Grant is in the same situation. Nothing changes , but Grant does not give up for the
sake of Jefferson, his people, and most importantly, himself. At one point, Grant actually reveals
that it is too heavy a burden because of all the others who have run away and left their burdens
behind. So, he,

Kingdom Of Heaven
Kingdom of Heaven is a historical movie based on the second crusade. Although the movie does
have many things that are accurate in this movie. Hollywood has made some problems with this
movie. So why did Hollywood change things? For a better movie? Maybe they just didn t find all
the facts. Maybe Hollywood just didn t get their facts straight. King Baldwin IV was a real
person and he did have leprosy. He did have a sister who gained the throne in later years as well.
The problem is that Hollywood forgot to mention his five year old nephew having the throne for a
short time before his sister. The article Latin king of Jerusalem Baldwin IV by Columbia
Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th Edition, Q2 2016 says he appointed Guy of Lusignan as his regent,
but in the same year he withdrew the commission and had his five year old nephew... Show more

Balian the blacksmith in France. Correctly, it would be Balian the high ranking knight who
knew his father and was from Jerusalem. Balian did know his dad in fact his father was not
named Godfrey it was Balian of D ibelin. Also he never left Jerusalem with Sibylla. In fact,
Helena Schrader says, In 1188 Saladin released Guy de Lusignan, taken captive at Hattin. He
went first to Antioch to be reunited with his wife, Queen Sibylla. Why did Hollywood change
this? Probably to appeal to the heart tearing side of the story. Why the name change of Balian to
Godfrey? The fact is it would be confusing if you had two people in the movie with the same
name. Kingdom of Heaven is a very well put together movie with some nonfictional as well as
fictional information. The idea of this is to show you that you should not believe everything you
see. So next time you see a movie that is supposed to be historically correct. Do some digging and
you might find gold. Maybe they are correct and you will find nothing at all. Always question
everything. Also remember Hollywood isn t always

The True Hero Of The Iliad
Talha Yousaf
Theodore O Neill
Human Being and Citizen I

Hector The true hero of The Iliad
Throughout human history, mankind has venerated heroes because they possess the ideals that
people strive to achieve themselves. The appearance and importance of heroes in The Iliad form a
major part of what makes it such a celebrated tale. The concept of heroism, however, for the ancient
Greeks and modern society is quite different. The Greeks viewed heroes as humans usually
descended from the gods and in possession of superhuman strength and an aptitude for battle .
Achilles clearly fits the above definition and therefore it comes as no surprise that he has
historically been viewed as the main hero of the epic. However, the modern day definition of
heroism, more than just strength and prowess in battle, encompasses the idea of a moral
responsibility: defending one s people from harm and sacrificing one s own desires or life for the
sake of others. Hector proves to be a great warrior, referred to as man killing Hector by the
Achaeans, and therefore can be seen as a hero by the Greek perspective. However that is not the
defining characteristic of the Trojan Prince. His character revolves around a sense of moral
responsibility towards his people, his culture and his family, and using his power to defend them,
sacrificing his own life in the process. The goal of this paper is to prove that Hector, not Achilles,
is the true hero of The Iliad.
Early on in the tale we

The Incident Of My Mini Experiment
The incident
My opportunity to practice or implement my mini experiment when I was called in to a meeting
with the General Manager and several other staff. The goal was to review a major situation where
key components were not in stock. Resulting in the business not being able to function correctly
until resolved. My goal in relation to my mini experiment, was to remain engaged in the meeting
and not allow my default routine of mentally withdrawing and shutting down to take place for as
long as possible.
Incident insights
The meeting was heading for a finger pointing session this struck me of the chronically defeated
team (Tyson 2010), and how this leads to poor team performance. This frustrated me as I wanted to

regret. Instead allowing my mind to think of solutions or options to remain actively engaged in the
meeting and not withdraw into myself. When the time came I took the opportunity and employed
the circuit breaker.
Experiment outcomes, the good
The impact this had on the tone of the meeting was noticeable. It became apparent to me the
General Manager was expecting me to behave the way I had previously, having my mini meltdown.
When it became apparent I was not, and able to progress the conversation past the usual point he
appeared to be visible thrown by this. I felt he had already planned the exchange in his mind
before walking into the meeting. This had an unforeseen side effect as the General Manager had
lost control of the meeting and I was now effectively running it. We were able to address the
immediate issue and form action points to move forward. This is an example of me being able to
influence in real time in order to achieve positive goals for myself and others. Somehow I had
managed to remain detached yet engaged (Hughes 2015) resulting in a more productive experience.
Experiment outcomes, the bad
The next steps in the meeting was when I was unsuccessful in delaying my default routine. I
relinquished control of proceedings back to the General Manager. The overriding dynamic of the

Everyone is fluent in at least one language, but as it continues to become popular, people are

they begin learningabstract languageas early as the third trimester of pregnancy and are able to

never been exposed to it. But what about those who are removed from their environment and are

Every experiment has limitations, in this study language can deter the results. The study does not
mention if any of the participants know any languages that may have similarities with Korean. If
so, could these known languages play an influence in learning Korean? For example, the romance
languages which include Spanish and French have many similar sounds and words that can be
comprehended by someone with only knowledge of one of these languages. The data can create a
flaw in this experiment as well. The contributors state that removing one adoptee that was an outlier
changed the correlation value from 0.36 to 0.062 (Choi, 2016). Could, then, removing all outliers or
measuring the medium rather than the mean provide drastically different results when comparing
the adoptees to the Dutch natives?
Media articles translate scientific papers into a simpler, shorter version that is easier for the
population to understand. A science magazine, Scientific American, published the article Your

Life Without Passion And Enthusiasm Scares Me
The only way to do great work is to do what you love. If you haven t found it yet, keep looking.
Don t settle. warned Steve Jobs, in his Stanford commencement speech in 2005. I hear these
words echo in my ears from time to time. The thought of living a life without passion and
enthusiasm scares me. We all have had to do things that didn t interest us at times, but I look at
each day as a new opportunity to get closer to my ultimate goal. As a kid, I enjoyed being the
performer, the artist. I am not that bad of a performer, I might add. But as I grew up, I found

Nature of the Mind Essay
William Blake, a poet that strongly believed in the power of mind, once wrote, if we see with
imagination, we see all things in the infinite. The Romantic poets use their imagination when
gazing at nature, and therefore see and feel the infinite through their poetry. William Wordsworth
expresses the serene beauty that nature possesses and its calming effects on the mind. Samuel
Taylor Coleridge, one of the poetic geniuses of the age, uses nature and his imagination to create
surreal atmospheres. Another Romantic poet, by the name of Percy Bysshe Shelley, shows great
longing for the freedom that nature possesses and the freeing effect it has on him. These poets of

He expresses the mind s ability to take a beautiful scene and create a calm and content feeling
throughout his thoughts. Samuel Taylor Coleridge uses nature as a catalyst to search deeper
into his mind and discover the surreal creativity of his own imagination. This Lime Tree Bower
My Prison depicts an out of body vision that encompasses a breathtaking vista of green
mountains and purple flowers from the eyes of an imaginer. Gazing at it with swimming sense,
the picture becomes less gross than bodily, causing the swirling colors to form something only
found in the divine. However surreal this picture is, nothing can compare to Cloleridge s vision
in Kubla Khan. In this poem he uses nature s creations to depict unnatural scenes. In caverns
measureless to man, Kubla Khan wants to build a sunny pleasure dome with caves of ice. Such a
place is only real in the imagination and in the written word, which is why this poem seems so
tangible to the eye. He comes across these imaginary visions while meandering with a mazy
motion through wood and dale, where these thoughts come alive. It explains through alliteration
how walking through wooded paths, accompanied only by one s mind, one comes upon new
feelings and thoughts that are only palpable in that wood. Nature inspires Samuel Coleridge to
exorcise his mind s eye and create a heavenly atmosphere. Percy Bysshe Shelley looks up to

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( Ptsd ) Essay
This paper focuses on women who are survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA) and today struggle
with a complex set of symptoms known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). For pastors
who intend to provide help, an integrated multidimensional treatment plan flows from a thorough
assessment and accurate diagnosis. Discussed herein are three treatment options including
individual, group and cognitive processing therapy and the integration of a Christian perspective
regarding symptom mitigation to assist in gaining a better understanding of redemptive care.
Ashley is 60 years old. She is the middle child of three sisters. Ashley reported that when she was
growing up, her father abused her. She was also abused by her sister in the way she was setting up
situations for Ashley to be raped or beaten. Ashley has great feelings of betrayal toward her father,
mother, and sister. Her mother confessed to Ashely that she caught her husband when he was
sexually molesting her oldest daughter. Ashley is angry that her mother did not stop the abuse, and
she did not protect her and her sister. Ultimately, Ashley is angry that her mother was dependent on
her father, and she did not even consider separating from him. Ashley reported feelings of
entrapment, depression, anxiety, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and helplessness and
powerlessness as a child that led her to become preoccupied with remaining in control of situations
as an adult. (Karakurt Silver, 2014, p. 83)

Septic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS)
The word sepsis is derived from the ancient Greek word for rotten flesh and putrefaction. Since
then, a wide variety of definitions have been applied to sepsis, including sepsis syndrome, severe
sepsis, bacteremia, septicemia and septic shock In 1991, the American College of Chest
Physicians (ACCP) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) developed a new set of
terms and definitions to define sepsisin a more precise manner [1, 2]. These definitions take into
account the findings that sepsis may result from a multitude of infectious agents and microbial
mediators and may not be associated with detectable bloodstream infection. The term systemic
inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) was coined to describe the com mon systemic response

Septic shock is a subset of severe sepsis and was defined as sepsis induced hypotension persisting
despite adequate fluid resusci tation (see Fig. 12.1). While the quantity of fluid that qualifies as
adequate fluid resuscitation is controversial, we believe septic shock is best defined as a mean
arterial pressure (MAP) less than 65 mmHg after a fluid challenge of 20 mL/Kg body weight
(given 30 60 minutes) in patients with sepsis and in the absence of other causes for hypotension
(also see Chap. 14). According to the ACCP/SCCM defini tions, three stages in the hierarchy of
the host s response to infection were recognized, namely, sepsis, severe sepsis and septic shock,
with sepsis having the best prognosis and septic shock the worst. While the use of the SIRS
criteria to define sepsis is some what controversial [3 6], many consider sepsis to be best defined
as the systemic response to infection with the presence of some degree of organ dysfunction

Forster frames the audience perception of Amir through the character foil of Hassan juxtaposing
his willingness to serve Amir, made apparent in the hyperbolic statement for you a thousand
times over , and his refusal to give up the kite he ran for Amir, though threatened with injury, to
Amir s inaction as Hassan is brutally sodomised by the three teenagers. The racial hatred of
Hassan s Hazara heritage is used as justification for their actions, the metaphorical images and
rhetorical questions underpinning this, why does he only play with you when no one else is
around positioning the viewer to question Amir s values. However Forster foregrounds Amir s
growth, using time shifts and Rahim Khan as a moral voice as he challenges Amir that there is a
way to be good again , Amir s decision to return to Afghanistanto save Hassan s son Sohrab
representative of this. Forster frames Amir s realisation I feel like a tourist in my own country
through th montage of shots of the desolate countryside and devastated buildings, his assertion I
don t want to forget anymore underpinning his realisation that to move forward and fully develop
his identity he must first reconcile his past. Forster uses the mosque scene to frame Amir s renewed
connections to his faith, coupled with the recurring motif of kite flying, with Amir s promise to
Sohrab for you a thousand times over denoting his spiritual and emotional growth because of the
knowledge and understanding he has gained through the discovery process. Thus, Forster affirms
Shakespeare s contention of the paradoxical nature of discovery, that the process is as significant as

Communication is the one key element of life that sets human beings apart from the rest of the

build civilizations and to develop advanced technologies. Technology has undoubtedly advanced
throughout the years and with particular groundbreaking inventions such as the Internet,
smartphones and tablets our ability to effectively communicate in a formal and detailed manner
has deteriorated. The means of communicating across the globe is now easily achieved with the

This could probably be ascribed to the pervasiveness of SMS text lingo among the students.
However, following the wide publication of reports dating back to 2002 on the use of text language
in school assignment, some sections of the public became concerned about the decline in the
quality of written communication.
Another issue that has surfaced due to technological communication is that some people do not
have the same access to online communication tools, such as the Internet, as others might, thus
creating a digital divide . Digital divide refers to the difference in communication technology skills
within groups of people. (John Wiley Sons Australia, 2008) The digital divide is not a clear single
gap, which separates a society into two groups. Researchers report that drawbacks can take such
forms as lower performance computers and difficulty of obtaining technical assistance. There also is
a significant problem with the presented languages on the Internet, thus triggering a communication
barrier for certain countries. The Internet mainly comprises of websites written in English,
furthermore leaving people out of touch with society, friends and family on the Internet and
information for a large percentage of the population. Even if the communication technologies are
bringing nations together it is evidently leaving some communities out, causing a sense of
segregation.

A relational database s use is organizing large amounts of data. Relationships database define the
relationship between two points of tables and these database systems are linked by defining that
relationship. Database is a well maintained collection of data. The data are arranged to model

Black Worms Lab
There are two main types of toxicity, acute and chronic. Acute toxicity refers to a relatively high
dose of a toxin given over a short period of time. Chronic toxicity is a relatively low dose of a
toxin given over a longer time period. Acute toxicity is measured by the Lethal Dose 50 (LD50).
LD50 is the dose of a specific substance that kills 50% of test organisms, and it varies from
substance to substance. Toxin severity is due to intrinsic, within the body, and extrinsic, outside of
the body, factors. When determining the effect of a toxin on an organism, it is important to

Mortgage Fraud And The Big Short By Starring Christian...
Mortgage fraud is one of the costliest, yet seldom prosecuted crimes in the criminal world.
CoreLogic estimates approximately $13 billion in fraud losses occurred in 2012, according to
the latest available data in the 2012 Mortgage Fraud Trends Report (Gerding, 2013). While these
numbers may seem high, the approximate $13 billion in losses is only a fraction of what it would
be if every case were to be prosecuted. Mortgagefraudwas also a major contributing factor towards
a national, and nearly global economic collapse in 2008 when the United States economy saw the
worst recession it has seen since the great depression. Anyone that has seen the films 99 homes
starring Andrew Garfield and Michael Shannon or The Big Short starring Christian Bale and Ryan
Gosling has seen a largely realistic glimpse of mortgage fraud and how devastating it can be.
White collar crime: Mortgage fraud Traditionally, there are three types of mortgage fraud that
are the most common and well known. These three types are fraud for profit , fraud for housing
and a third type that deals with overestimating a property s value or submitting a false appraisal
(Schmalleger, 2016). A relatively new fourth type of mortgage fraud that quickly escalated
following the economic crash of 2008 involves a series of scams claiming to save property owners
from foreclosure.
A criminal that commits fraud for profit essentially inquires about a home or property, makes an
offer desirable to the seller and places

Abstract
It is important for healthcare organizations to understand their present performance and weak areas
in order to generate more effective operational strategies. Financial ratio analysis is an effective
tool to determine hospital s performance on several indicators such as ability to pay debt,
capability to generate revenue, and sales performance etc. The objective of this paper is to
describe role of different financial ratios in understanding organizational performance and in
developing new strategy. The paper also presents comparative ratio analysis of local healthcare

According to the authors, ratio analysis is very effective way to measure financial performance of
hospitals (Burkhardt Wheeler, 2013). The authors mentioned about two major types of ratios
important in healthcare industry i.e. return on investment and operating profit. Generally financial
ratios can be divided in four major categories: liquidity ratios; assets turnover ratios; debt ratios;
and profitability ratios. These financial ratios cover all major dimensions of business performance;
hence a manager should include these ratios in his report (Cleverley et al., 2011).
Liquidity Ratios:
These ratios help company in determining its capability to pay short term debts. Liquidity ratios
inform about, how quickly a firm can obtain cash by liquidating its current assets in order to pay
its liabilities. General liquidity ratios are: current ratio and quick ratio. Current ration can be
obtain by dividing company s current assets by its current liabilities. Generally a current ratio of
two is considered as good (Cleverley et al., 2011). Quick ratio also known as acid test determines
company s liabilities that need to be fulfilled on urgent basis. Quick ratio can be obtained by
dividing quick assets by current liabilities. Quick ratio is considered as stricter because it excludes
inventories from current assets. Generally a quick ratio of 1:1 is considered as good for the
company. Higher quick

The question that the patients always ask is, what about a healthy life? What about the parts of
their life they have already lost? All the treatments, radiations, and chemotherapy they have
already gone through; they have scars so big that nothing they do can hide them. What about all
the things that they missed out on because of all the time they had to be in the hospital? Many
doctors stated that they would help or treat anyone no matter what the issue may be, not in the
case of three year old Amy. Research has shown me that this little girl was refused to be helped
with her disease because of the families inability to pay right away, because of not having a

Paper Mache Research Paper
Art is perhaps the best way on the planet to show and describe feelings. For many people art is
nothing but color on paper, but in truth it is so much more. To be able to properly understand a
work of art, which could be a sculpture, painting, drawing etc. You must first be able to understand
how the artist has expressed themselves. So we are going to take this one step at a time and look
at one of the most popular type of sculpture. Papermache. Paper mache comes from the
combination of French syllables, papier mache meaning chewed paper. The art form gets its name
from it s wet, soggy appearance. The composite material can be made from paper or pulp. In

For those of you who don t know what a pinata is, it is basically a paper mache animal or toy that
you hollow out and fill with candy. Then you put on a blindfold and hit it with a bat until the candy
comes out. This tradition first originated from Spain except you would fill the pinata with toys or
other small trinkets instead of candy.
For those of you who are new to art. It is not easy. Frustration can be very common, especially
when you sculpt in paper mache. I have done paper mache before and know it to be very
unforgiving if you make a mistake. A couple examples of things you want to avoid are: thin spots
on your project, (cave in s), Not too much solution, (Can wreck your base), And painting before
your sculpture is dry.
Like I said at the start of this essay. Art is a wonderful way to express yourself in many ways:
visual, photographic, sculpting (3D) etc. but one thing everyone must keep in mind is that no
piece of art is perfect. If you make a mistake that is just fine, you are not a professional. And if
you are, well good for you. But what I am trying to say is that not just anyone can fully grasp or
understand art. As all my teachers say. It s okay not to know, however it isn t okay not to

Little Women By Louisa Alcott
Little Women by Louisa Alcott
Little Women can be viewed as a classic book or girl s book. It was written after the Civil War
after the author received endless demand from the young female readers. Initially they were
published as two books where Chapters 1 to 23 where issues back in 1868 under Little Women
title, however, after becoming a highly sensational success, Chapters 24 to 47 were published in
1869 under the title Good Wives Louisa (1869). Louisa May Alcotts personal life is demonstrated
in the first book hence acting as a form of semiautobiographical where it largely reflects on the
experiences as she grows up with her sisters in New England. She was born in Germantown,
Pennsylvania on November 29, 1832 (Reisen). Thus, the book reflects her personal live with the
authors demand on the need to know whether who of the sister married forcing her to add the
book. The second book illustrated how Jo married Laurie with Alcott herself remaining
unmarried all her life hence forcing her to write the sequel by departing from the autobiography
by writing may feel straight up fiction. However, without her personal experiences the other part
of the novel may feel less realistic. Little Women has been largely popular since the initial
publication for over 140 years where it largely appealed to readers young and old, male and female
(Myerson). This was based on the major trend of the novel as based on the lifelong lovers who are
female. The novel has been transformed into

Accountability In Military
In the United States Army Reporting is one of the most important actions a soldier can display.
Reporting is used to keep track of a soldier s location and or activities. Without some form of
reporting, it would be impossible to monitor the actions or location of any given soldier. All
soldiers in any unit and or branch of the military must be accounted for at all times. If not
properly reported or accounted for falls not only on the soldier that s missing but falls on the
person in charge over him or her which is usually the Noncommissioned officer and so forth.

saying that if you don t play your role in soldier accountability means that you a not loyal to the

Symbolism In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The term gothic is used to describe a work of literature characterized by the elements of mystery,
gloom, and fear. Combing the idea of gothic literature with Edgar Allan Poe s single effect yields a
completely terrifying masterpiece. There are a multitude of themes and symbols that can be pulled
from this work, but it is the narrator s description of his ambiguous setting that brings on the gothic
undertones of mystery, gloom, and fear in Edgar Allan Poes The Fall of the House of Usher. The
first gothic undertone cleverly stashed away in the story is the mysterious ambiance of the
setting. In the beginning of the story, the location of the Usher house is never given to the
readers for several reasons. This lack of location aids Poe in creating a mysterious setting
without him specifying it. This effectively leaves readers in an unknown place that they know
nothing about, which adds to the overall mysterious tone of the setting . Upon entering the house
the narrator says that he is conducted through many dark and intricate passages (Poe 475). From
this point on, readers do not have any inkling as to where the narrator is in the house, barring
several descriptions of several rooms the narrator resides in. Not only is the setting ambiguous,
but the overall time frame in never given to readers as well.. No specified date is ever presented
throughout the entire story and readers are only aware of the fact that several days have passed
here and there. The lack of detail

Stories of current times could sound surreal to citizens of the year 2552. Tales of water coming

even the most resilient organisms. At the poles, it is so cold that the fuel lines in vehicles freeze

Life expectancy, standard of living, and world economies will begin an apocalyptic down spiral
(Living Planet Report 2002).Throughout the next four decades, 97 percent of the population growth

issues. Water shortages are going to be the main issue as populationincreases(Hoevel). However,
seeing as surviving and reproducing are top priorities in these regions, they have little time to spare
thinking about the environment and future generations. Overpopulation of humans is similar to a
locust swarm. The locusts strip their habitat of all they find useful, then move on to the next area.
The difference between humans and locusts though, is that once we strip earth of all she s worth,
we have nowhere else to migrate. Overpopulation would take time to develop. It would also take
the negligence of governments and citizens. There are several different routes that could be taken
to prevent or alleviate the negative effects of overpopulation. Overpopulation is avoidable with
governments help and could be delayed or even avoided in multiple ways. Regrettably, governments
are more tied up with economies, foreign affairs, and policy making to spare the man power to

North Carolina State University s Environmental...
Introduction During this semester I traveled with the North Carolina State University s
Environmental Technology and Management program ET 201 class, under the direction of Dr.
Teresa Litzenberger, to Little Rock Creek in Raleigh North Carolina. Little Rock Creek is a
small stream located in southeast raleigh near the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Located in a
watershed of approximately 705.879 acres, the creek looks like an upside down uppercase L from a
map perspective. The creek floor is sandy with a few small rocks (cobblestone) in areas. The stream
has plenty of tree cover to provide shade. However, the lack of large trees encourages the curves
in the creek to widen which allows the water to slow down and create pools throughout the creek.
According to Title 15A of the North Carolina Administrative Code, Rule .0302 contains the
classifications for waters located within the Neuse River Basin (15A NCAC 02L .0312). Little
Rock Creek, however, is not classified and therefore follows Rule .0301 which simply states that it
should carry the classification of the stream to which it is a tributary (.
Assessment and Methodology The Rapid Stream Assessment Technique (RSAT) uses data
measured in the field to determine a stream s condition. These data fields include channel stability,
channel scouring or sediment deposition, physical instream habitat, water quality, riparian habitat
conditions, and biological indicators of macroinvertebrates. The RSAT ranking for each

Home Of Home Essay
Family is defined differently for everyone. Family members can live down the street or in
another country. Some people have close knit families while others do not. Similarly, home is
also defined differently for everyone. Some people might believe that home is just the house
they live in, and with each move comes a new home. Others, however, believe that home is
where their family is. People use family as a way to define home in slightly different ways. For
example, in her essay On Going Home, Joan Didion writes about wanting to give her daughter

While her husband does not understand many things her family talks about or why they talk
about the particular things they do, Didion is most comfortable talking about such things when
she is home with her family. Toward the end of the essay Didion writes about her daughter, I
would like to promise her that she will grow up with a sense of her cousins and of rivers and of
her great grandmother s teacups... I would like to give her home for her birthday, but we live
differently now and I can promise her nothing like that (Didion 3). Didion wants her daughter to
grow up with the same sense of home and family that she did, along with the same sentimental
values. However, because her daughter will grow up in a different time and place than Didion
did, it is unlikely that she will grow up with the same experiences. In Chang Rae Lee s Coming
Home Again, he discreetly uses his mother as a way of defining home. Lee uses various fond
memories of his mother to illustrate the childhood he had before he went to school away from

Be Cool To The Pizza Dude Analysis
Sarah Adams article Be Cool to the Pizza Dude addresses how we can remember to be kind

His pizza light atop his car glowing like a beacon reminds me to check myself as I flow through

center of the universe. David Wallace Foster demonstrates how this is our default setting, he states
We rarely talk about this sort of natural, basic self centredness, because it s so socially repulsive,
but it s pretty much the same for all of us, deep down. It is our default setting, hard wired into our

hot bubbly cheese, we have all been through lousy, depressing, and pathetic times in our life, we
have all been repulsive burnt disgusting crust and our understanding that everyone else has or

Brief History Of Beer Is The Most Popular Alcoholic...
Brief History of Beer
Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage worldwide, and the third most popular drink overall
after water and tea. The average American drinks the equivalent of 38 six packs of beer, a dozen
bottles of wine and two quarts of distilled spirits like gin, rum, single malt Scotch, or vodka a year,
according to the New York Times.
Research has shown that people have been brewing this famous beverage as early as several
thousand years before the Common Era. Recent studies claim that the production and consumption
of beer was a major factor in the development of civilized society, arguing that the important and

Production Understanding how beer is fermented is important to recognize the importance of
several raw ingredients required in the process. Pure water, quality malts and hops are essential
in the brewing process. A source of pure water is necessary to brew good beer. As such, the
water used in brewing is purified to rigidly set standards. If it does not have the proper calcium
or acidic content for maximum activity of the enzymes in the mash, it must be brought up to
that standard. Barley, which is the main raw material in beer, must first be left to begin to
germinate. This process is called malting. This prerequisite stage of production of beer forms an
industry in itself, called the malting industry. During the malting process, the grain is allowed
to germinate with heated water in a vat for a process known as mashing . Then it is spread out in
layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a
kilning process. This beginning of germination is called the malting. During the malting process
the grain is first steeped for approximately three days, then it is spread out in layers for a week to
germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. The
germination process creates a number of enzymes, notably alfa amylase and beta amylase, which
will be used to convert the starch in the grain into sugar. Depending on the amount of roasting, the
malt will take on dark colour and strongly

The U.s. National Debt
The U.S. national debt is very large at more than three quarters the size of the economy and
growing federal spending, especially on entitlements, is quickly driving the debt to damaging
levels. Federal spending was about 23 percent of the GDP in 2012 far above the historical average
of 20.2 percent. It is projected to surge to nearly 36 percent in less than one generation. The
government debtmust be limited in some way or else our economy will face devastating
consequences. The government debt has had its highs and lows throughout history in comparison
to the GDP, and to reduce it, we must minimize spending on entitlements such as Social Security
and Medicare.
Since its inception, the United States of America has had fluctuating amounts of debt. High
points usually follow in the wake of war or recessions, and low points usually occur in times of
relative stability in the U.S. Recently, however, the United States has amassed over 18 trillion
dollars in debt. The national debt has been rising steadily since the 1970 s and experienced a
large growth around the year 2009. From the years 1929 to 2009, the Debt to GDP ratio was
approximately 48 percent on average (excluding the years within the World War II era), while
from 2009 2014 the Debt to GDP ratio was approximately 97 percent. This increase was most likely
the result of increased defense/war spending, the Obama s American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act, and the Troubled Asset Relief Program. All of these events

When this happens to me I usually put my decision to the side and allow for another s decision

with someone I usually take them to the side and tell them. I try to explain to them why I have
the problem or listen to why they have the problem. I try to discuss ways we can solve it or
come to an agreement. If that doesn t work, I follow the chain of command at work until it is
solved, only going up the ladder if the previous figure refuses to deal with it or find a solution
that is appropriate. What is my Delegation skills? I often have problems with delegating a task. I
feel as if it is my project or assignment I should complete it myself. I am often wary that if I

George W. Bush Qualities
When one speaks or hears a reference to the war on terror or the Iraqi War, there is undoubtedly
talk about President George W. Bush in the mix of conversations. George W. Bush embodied the
ability to remain human in the eyes of the people while holding the highest position of the
government. Surely there will be the portion of the American people who support George W. Bush
and would deem him a great man, as well as those who do feel he was an effective leader.
Regardless of whether you are a supporter of President Bush or skeptic of his abilities, all can agree
that George W. Bush lead our country through its darkest day. For a leader to be a great man, he
must exemplify certain qualities. A few of these qualities might include emotional and cognitive
intelligence, superior communication skills, bureaucratic, pragmatic and rational, and trustworthy.

Bush went on to join the Air National Guard after completing his schooling at Yale. After, Bush
graduated from Harvard business school with his MBA in 1974. One might argue that President
George W. Bush was forming his leadership capabilities during this time as he nurtured his
cognitive abilities with his formal education and self discipline from his military service in the
Air National Guard. When Bush s time in the Air National Guard concluded, he moved back to
Midland, Texas. Initially, he began exploring the oil industry and formed his own oil exploration
company. While continuing to grow his oil company, Bush began to make his presence known in
the political arena. After the congressman in the Midland district announced his retirement,
George W. Bush joined the race to take over this senate seat. Much to President Bush s dismay,
he lost the race to a conservative Democrat. Looking back on the events of President Bush s life
before holding the office of Presidency, we can see that determination and drive were forming as
he learned from losses and worked for gains (Greenstein

Stereotypes In Jerry Spinelli s Stargirl
Jerry Spinelli s book, Stargirl, is a fiction book that tells a story of a young student named Leo.
Leo attends Mica High school along his best friend Kevin and the other Mica High students. The
school is a completely average school with cliques and social expectations. That is until Mica High
is flipped upside down when the ukulele playing new girl walks in. Stargirlsteals the attention of
every Mica student as she dances down the halls, runs across football fields, and sings happy
birthday to every student every day without a care. Her oblivious attitude blinds her from seeing
how the school only cheers for her because they think she s a joke; some students claim she was
placed in the school as an actor to pump school spirit, others believe she s out of this world, and...

Fermat s Last Theorem Essay
Have you heard of Fermat s Last Theorem? It was the world s most notorious (which means
famous in a bad kind of way) mathematical problem because it kept the world s greatest minds
dumbfounded for more than three centuries! Now who was Fermat? Pierre de Fermat was born
in 1601 in south west France. He was not a Mathematician. He was a Councillor at the Toulouse
Chamber of petitions. He studied Mathematics in his spare time as a hobby. But he was so
brilliant that he discovered the laws of Probabilty, laid the foundation of Calculus and made the
greatest contribution to Number Theory. In addition to being brilliant, Fermat was just a bit
mischievous. After solving a particular Mathematical problem, he would write to other
Mathematicians, challenging them to come up with their own solutions for the problem. Fermat
s last theorem can be stated very simply. Have you heard of Pythagorean triplets? They are sets
of three whole numbers that satisfy the condition: x2 + y2 = z2. (3,4,5) is one such set of
numbers. So is (5, 12, 13). These numbers can be considered to be the sides of right angled
triangles. Fermat s last theorem states that it is impossible to find whole numbers x, y and z such
that xn + yn = zn, when n is greater than 2. Fermat claimed to have found a proof for this theorem,
but wrote that the margin of his notebook was too small... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

had got cut off from the mathematical community. He decided it was time to get back to normal

I am Sam Disability
I chose the movie I am Sam to challenge my own opinion on how people with disabilities should
be treated under certain circumstances. I am Sam is a movie about a mentally challenged man,
named Sam, striving to raise his daughter, Lucy, alone. Diagnosed with Autism, Sam s
intellectual capacity cannot exceed the age of 7. As we watch Lucy grow up under Sam s roof, we
are able to see the love they have for each other. When Lucy reaches the age of 8, social workers
see this as an issue, so they place Lucy in a temporary home while Sam goes to court to try to win
Lucy back. Sam s lawyer, Rita, took this pro bono case to impress her coworkers. At first, Rita
doesn t believe Sam is capable of raising Lucy along with the social workers who... Show more

As Sam and Rita are preparing for the trial, Sam states that he feels he is smarter than Lucy in
some ways. He then tells Rita he is in some ways smarter than her, too. Here, Sam is displaying
the confident side of himself. On the other hand, Sam seemed to parallel my assumption that
disabled people can be fragile in ways that are not related to their disability. We see this after Sam
loses hope of winning his case as he says to Rita, You don t know what it s like when you try and
you try and you don t ever get there! Because you were born perfect and I was born like this.
People like you don t know what it s like to get hurted, because you don t have feelings. People
like you don t feel anything! Many people tend to perceive disabled people lacking emotion or
feeling, or that their emotion is just part of their disability. It seems that Sam thinks that feeling
sad is part of his disability, but what he doesn t know is that everyone experiences intense
emotions. He lacks the realization that anybody getting their child taken away from them would
have feelings similar to his. His statement raised questions in my mind about how all disabled
people perceive able bodied people. Sam also displayed one of my assumptions that disabled people
are more comfortable around each other compared to being with abled people . Sam s best friends
in the movie all happen to be disabled in some way as

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Heating System

пЃ®Heating system. It uses metallic element wires. The advantage of this system is that they can
be installed into woven or knitted materials for clothing application, not to mention insoles. Such
thin element wires have low thermal inertia so that they warm up rapidly and can be
thermostatically controlled. (Scott, 1988)
пЃ®Thermostat. The thermostat is a segment of the circuit that can control the temperature
automatically. There is obvious difference between the thermostat and the thermometer. Generally
speaking, all smart homes are installed with temperature controls on a wall to manage the heating

shortcomings and disadvantages. Numerous heating devices, typically electrical and battery

devices have been known for many years, they did not receive a warm response in the market, as
many have significant drawbacks and disadvantages. For example, some devices do not distribute
the heat evenly, so the skin of users may be scalded during in the process of using. In addition,
many of these devices do not provide a steadily continuous flow of heat, and consequently, the

This anomalous transport degrades the plasma performance of the fusion device. Therefore, the
study of characteristics of plasma turbulence (onset from unstable plasma conditions, nonlinear

thorough understanding of this problem is still far from completeness, given the complexity and
difficulty of the problem. ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) Plasma turbulence is of wave

studies of wave turbulence in the HM model can provide insights into turbulence dynamics and its

numerical simulations as well as analytic studies have been carried out using the HM model for the

How Did Marcel Duchamp s Use Of Imagery In Pop Art
Pop Art c. 1952 1970
Pop art began to emerge in the early 1950s as a result of a booming, capitalist American economy
that followed the Second World War. A sense of optimism arose nationwide with new job security,
healthy incomes and an absence of military obligations. Post war marriage and baby booms yielded
the largest generation in the nations history . The American dream was born and idealized in the
media through advertising. Research undertaken by sociologists into consumer habits and behavior
became a marketing strategy and corporations adapted their production by tapping into what was
fashionable and desirable among the masses.
The exponentially growing population gave way to a social group that had never before been
established in its own right, teenagers. Now that families could afford to give their children a
wholesome education, this age group no longer had to spend their days contributing to the family
income at work, which left more time and freedom for leisure activities. As adolescents began to
follow popular music and culture, the concept of popular culture exploded in America. This in turn
is from where the movement of Pop art was derived. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dismantling of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was one of the three strongest nations in the world. Between 1964 and 1982, the
Soviet Union competed militarily with the world s best. The Soviet Union and its system appeared
impervious to rudimentary change especially when Politburo was headed by Leonid Brezhenev. It

Essay On The Atomic Bomb
Ethan Hasert English Comp. Per. 4 Atomic Bomb Oppenheimer once said: Now I am become
Death, the Destroyer of Worlds (recited from the Bhagavad Gita). That was the day of Trinity,
the first test of an atomic bomb s raw, awesome power. It was the beginning of a deadly
technology that is ever evolving to reach more dangerous heights: atomic and nuclear weapons.
These weapons have only been fired twice, and yet the entire world is on edge when a country
threatens to use them. The Atomic bomb was created out of fear and necessity; to be used for such
a purpose; but it was still a weapon of mass destruction. At first, the greatest fear of the Allied
science community was the fact that the Nazis had already started work on atomic weapons.... Show

There was even a plan to use an atomic bomb on the Nazis, but their surrender prevented its use.
The Atomic and Nuclear bombs are weapons of mass destruction. Even before their use there
was, a petition among the scientists opposing the use of the bomb on moral grounds (p 5,
Simkin). Since there was no singling out a certain person in their use, both types of bombs will
destroy everything and anything in their way. It s why they can be so useful. The use of an
atomic bomb is a message to the rest of society, a statement of power and having the will to use
it. Yet, it comes at the cost of thousands of civilian lives. People thought of it afterwards as, a
great atrocity: a mass killer of women, children and the aged, a cynical Cold War gambit, the
blinding dawn of a tense and troubled half century known as the Atomic Age (p 2, Lifton and
Putnam). The only way to combat this, is the threat of mutual destruction. The Cold War is a
perfect example of this. There the Soviet Union and the United States threatened the use of
nuclear weapons. If both sides had attacked each other, the world would have been doomed to
suffer a nuclear winter for hundreds of years killing millions if not billions of people in the
process. With the dissolvement of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Red Menace was mostly gone.
Though to say the threat of nuclear war was over would be false. Until recently, North Korea

  • 2. Brian Snare Analysis The intricate universe of mergers is often a chaotic endeavor for many musicians, one where few artists have found success unless that artist s name is Brian Eno. But let it be a pair of Canadian producers to subvert this notion. A master at exercising the dichotomy between electronic intelligentsia and the dark confines of breakcore, Venetian Snares (Aaron Funk) teams up with prolific producer Daniel Lanois, whose name is attached to projects like U2 s The Joshua Tree and Brian Eno s Apollo Atmospheres Soundtracks. As two preeminent musical minds come together to bounce ideas off one another, Venetian Snares and Daniel Lanois self titled project witnesses the duo pulling in their respective sonic backgrounds to devise contemporary terrains of sound while pushing each other s unique talents into untouchable acclivities.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although largely improvised, almost every composition off this album follows a similar ebb n flow like structure. Take the track Night Mxcmpv1 P74 for instance, Lanois initiates the listener s experience with swathes of ambient bliss but is then kicked into full lunacy as Funk s zany drill and bass peppers in and out of a veil of shimmering chords. This unusual marriage of synthetic styles has only been accomplished by one other electronic artist prior, by none other than Aphex Twin with his masterful body of work. With this unlikely masterpiece, Funk, a pillar of IDM, does what he does best and finds that menacing place where synthetic drum and bass repeat, speed up, then abruptly punctuate at the mercy of industrial whirls of high hats and paradoxically cool ... • 3. The Fountain Reflection The Fountain, directed by Darren Aronofsky, is a dramatic sci fi esque film centered around the main character, Tommy. The film begins in the past setting with the line, Let s finish this . These three words capture the film s entire conflict, death. Every living thing dies, however it takes the span of the movie for Tommy to realize this. In the beginning, he is weary of death, believing that it is a disease. Present Tommy is obsessed on saving his wife Izzi from her fatal brain tumor, while Future Tommy is taking a tree, presumably Izzi, to Shibalba to be healed. He is unable to accept the death of someone that he loves, and therefore puts all his time and efforts into curing death. Even in the past, Queen Isabella of Spain asks Tommy to find eternal life to save Spain, leading him in a mindless quest for the tree of life and a brutal death when he does find his goal. All the while, present day Izzi has come to accept her own death. She is content in her life. Tommy does not recognize this, putting his wife second to her illness. We can see this when she asks him to take a walk with her, to which he denies. This scene replays throughout the movie, highlighting Tommy s mistake of choosing his work over her. In doing this, he losses his wedding ring because he is no longer worthy of wearing it. In her freetime, Izzi had been writing a book. When Izzi is sick in the hospital, he bring her, her journal. Izzi, however, asks Tommy to finish the last chapter. During her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The As A World Of Perfection And Reality Art is a collection of artworks that reflects a message for the audience to interpret. Each piece of artwork is expressed in different forms that communicate an individual s thoughts and emotions to another person. Every artist has their own individual style which makes them different from the rest. Although artists have similar styles, viewers have their own interpretation when they are analyzing a piece of art in depth. Philosophers claim the uniqueness of art comes from all the creative ideas in one s mind. Nietzsche believes the appearance of objects matters more than reality of objects but Dewey would disagree. Friedrich Nietzscheintroduces the art world of dreams and reality. These are two different qualities that represents Apollonian and Dionysus art. According to Nietzsche, he describes dreams as a world of perfection and reality as a world of imperfection. In the excerpt The Birth of Tragedy, he writes, In our dreams we delight in the immediate understanding of figures; all forms speak to us; there is nothing unimportant or superfluous (Nietzsche 163). By dreaming, it is possible to fantasize about your desires positively. On the other hand, reality forces you to become aware of your true thoughts and how you are currently living your life. The author clearly explains the reality in which we live and have our being is also mere appearance, and that another, quite different reality lies beneath it (Nietzsche 163). When we are either doing real life activities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) STDs are among the very significant and preventable public health issues affecting the society and the globe at large today. In the development stage of human beings, it is of significance that they involve themselves in sexual activities. At this development stage, it is of note that adolescents mostly are at risk of contracting STDs. This is in all cultures because sexual activity is highest during the adolescent stage. This calls for early intervention to help them deal with this health problem. Educating the adolescents to abstain, and use contraceptives in early sexual activities, are the most important factors to deal with this issue (Oncel, Kulakac, Akcan, Eravsar Dedeoglu, 2011). Knowledge of STDs does not have to influence the sexual behavior. Most adolescents are ignorant on how STDs transmit. Lack of sexual information is the main cause of the increase in sexual activity among the youth. Many male and female youth ignore the physiological and psychological development of their bodies. This research aims to examine the sexual knowledge and behavior of adolescents towards the subject matter, STDs, to determine some factors including age, sex, and family status affecting the involvement of the respondents in sexual acts (Oncel et. al., 2011). Research work reveals that the awareness of the adolescents about sexuality and STDs appears to be inadequate. This mainly is because of the ignorance of health workers. ... • 7. Theme Of Courage In A Lesson Before Dying Almost everyone knows the right things to do. When a bully is picking on a victim, people around them know the right thing to do stand up for the victim. However, knowing the right thing to do and doing the right thing are two very different things the difference is courage. This is shown clearly in Ernest Gaines novel, A Lesson Before Dying, in Henrik Ibsens play, A Doll s House, and a quote from the movie Hidden Figures. Courage is shown through Grant, Nora, and that there s no bathroom for me here (0:31) from Hidden Figures respectively. In A Lesson Before Dying by author Ernest J Gaines, Grant is the protagonist who is trying to do the right thing for his people. Grant is in a very turbulent situation, having to make Jefferson into a man by the time he is executed. This is the central plot of the story, but not the main themes and ideas of it. Grant is struggling to help Jefferson because he sees generations of injustice through him. We got our first load of wood last week, [Grant] told him. Nothing changes, he said. (Gaines, 53). The response Grant s teacher gives him has a deeper meaning: he as Grants teacher failed to change the injustice and racism and Grant is in the same situation. Nothing changes , but Grant does not give up for the sake of Jefferson, his people, and most importantly, himself. At one point, Grant actually reveals that it is too heavy a burden because of all the others who have run away and left their burdens behind. So, he, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Kingdom Of Heaven Kingdom of Heaven is a historical movie based on the second crusade. Although the movie does have many things that are accurate in this movie. Hollywood has made some problems with this movie. So why did Hollywood change things? For a better movie? Maybe they just didn t find all the facts. Maybe Hollywood just didn t get their facts straight. King Baldwin IV was a real person and he did have leprosy. He did have a sister who gained the throne in later years as well. The problem is that Hollywood forgot to mention his five year old nephew having the throne for a short time before his sister. The article Latin king of Jerusalem Baldwin IV by Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th Edition, Q2 2016 says he appointed Guy of Lusignan as his regent, but in the same year he withdrew the commission and had his five year old nephew... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Balian the blacksmith in France. Correctly, it would be Balian the high ranking knight who knew his father and was from Jerusalem. Balian did know his dad in fact his father was not named Godfrey it was Balian of D ibelin. Also he never left Jerusalem with Sibylla. In fact, Helena Schrader says, In 1188 Saladin released Guy de Lusignan, taken captive at Hattin. He went first to Antioch to be reunited with his wife, Queen Sibylla. Why did Hollywood change this? Probably to appeal to the heart tearing side of the story. Why the name change of Balian to Godfrey? The fact is it would be confusing if you had two people in the movie with the same name. Kingdom of Heaven is a very well put together movie with some nonfictional as well as fictional information. The idea of this is to show you that you should not believe everything you see. So next time you see a movie that is supposed to be historically correct. Do some digging and you might find gold. Maybe they are correct and you will find nothing at all. Always question everything. • 10. The True Hero Of The Iliad Talha Yousaf Theodore O Neill Human Being and Citizen I 27 October 2014 Hector The true hero of The Iliad Throughout human history, mankind has venerated heroes because they possess the ideals that people strive to achieve themselves. The appearance and importance of heroes in The Iliad form a major part of what makes it such a celebrated tale. The concept of heroism, however, for the ancient Greeks and modern society is quite different. The Greeks viewed heroes as humans usually descended from the gods and in possession of superhuman strength and an aptitude for battle . Achilles clearly fits the above definition and therefore it comes as no surprise that he has historically been viewed as the main hero of the epic. However, the modern day definition of heroism, more than just strength and prowess in battle, encompasses the idea of a moral responsibility: defending one s people from harm and sacrificing one s own desires or life for the sake of others. Hector proves to be a great warrior, referred to as man killing Hector by the Achaeans, and therefore can be seen as a hero by the Greek perspective. However that is not the defining characteristic of the Trojan Prince. His character revolves around a sense of moral responsibility towards his people, his culture and his family, and using his power to defend them, sacrificing his own life in the process. The goal of this paper is to prove that Hector, not Achilles, is the true hero of The Iliad. Early on in the tale we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My goal in relation to my mini experiment, was to remain engaged in the meeting and not allow my default routine of mentally withdrawing and shutting down to take place for as long as possible. It became apparent to me the General Manager was expecting me to behave the way I had previously, having my mini meltdown. When it became apparent I was not, and able to progress the conversation past the usual point he appeared to be visible thrown by this. I felt he had already planned the exchange in his mind before walking into the meeting. This had an unforeseen side effect as the General Manager had lost control of the meeting and I was now effectively running it. We were able to address the immediate issue and form action points to move forward. This is an example of me being able to influence in real time in order to achieve positive goals for myself and others. Somehow I had managed to remain detached yet engaged (Hughes 2015) resulting in a more productive experience. Although toddlers do not start speaking before their first year, they begin learningabstract languageas early as the third trimester of pregnancy and are able to differentiate languages. The data can create a flaw in this experiment as well. The contributors state that removing one adoptee that was an outlier changed the correlation value from 0.36 to 0.062 (Choi, 2016). The Romantic poets use their imagination when gazing at nature, and therefore see and feel the infinite through their poetry. William Wordsworth expresses the serene beauty that nature possesses and its calming effects on the mind. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, one of the poetic geniuses of the age, uses nature and his imagination to create surreal atmospheres. Gazing at it with swimming sense, the picture becomes less gross than bodily, causing the swirling colors to form something only found in the divine. However surreal this picture is, nothing can compare to Cloleridge s vision in Kubla Khan. In this poem he uses nature s creations to depict unnatural scenes. In caverns measureless to man, Kubla Khan wants to build a sunny pleasure dome with caves of ice. Such a place is only real in the imagination and in the written word, which is why this poem seems so tangible to the eye. He comes across these imaginary visions while meandering with a mazy motion through wood and dale, where these thoughts come alive. Discussed herein are three treatment options including individual, group and cognitive processing therapy and the integration of a Christian perspective regarding symptom mitigation to assist in gaining a better understanding of redemptive care. Ashley is 60 years old. She is the middle child of three sisters. Ashley reported that when she was growing up, her father abused her. She was also abused by her sister in the way she was setting up situations for Ashley to be raped or beaten. Ashley has great feelings of betrayal toward her father, mother, and sister. Her mother confessed to Ashely that she caught her husband when he was sexually molesting her oldest daughter. Ashley is angry that her mother did not stop the abuse, and she did not protect her and her sister. Ultimately, Ashley is angry that her mother was dependent on her father, and she did not even consider separating from him. Ashley reported feelings of entrapment, depression, anxiety, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and helplessness and powerlessness as a child that led her to become preoccupied with remaining in control of situations as an adult. Combing the idea of gothic literature with Edgar Allan Poe s single effect yields a completely terrifying masterpiece. There are a multitude of themes and symbols that can be pulled from this work, but it is the narrator s description of his ambiguous setting that brings on the gothic undertones of mystery, gloom, and fear in Edgar Allan Poes The Fall of the House of Usher. The first gothic undertone cleverly stashed away in the story is the mysterious ambiance of the setting. In the beginning of the story, the location of the Usher house is never given to the readers for several reasons. This lack of location aids Poe in creating a mysterious setting without him specifying it. This effectively leaves readers in an unknown place that they know nothing about, which adds to the overall mysterious tone of the setting . Upon entering the house the narrator says that he is conducted through many dark and intricate passages (Poe 475). However, seeing as surviving and reproducing are top priorities in these regions, they have little time to spare thinking about the environment and future generations. Overpopulation of humans is similar to a locust swarm. The locusts strip their habitat of all they find useful, then move on to the next area. The difference between humans and locusts though, is that once we strip earth of all she s worth, we have nowhere else to migrate. Overpopulation would take time to develop. It would also take the negligence of governments and citizens. There are several different routes that could be taken to prevent or alleviate the negative effects of overpopulation. Overpopulation is avoidable with governments help and could be delayed or even avoided in multiple ways. Regrettably, governments are more tied up with economies, foreign affairs, and policy making to spare the man power to worry about issues that aren t pressing on their doorstep. Reducing the population is one path that could reduce strain on the environment. Policy could be implemented that limited the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. North Carolina State University s Environmental... Introduction During this semester I traveled with the North Carolina State University s Environmental Technology and Management program ET 201 class, under the direction of Dr. Teresa Litzenberger, to Little Rock Creek in Raleigh North Carolina. Little Rock Creek is a small stream located in southeast raleigh near the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Located in a watershed of approximately 705.879 acres, the creek looks like an upside down uppercase L from a map perspective. The creek floor is sandy with a few small rocks (cobblestone) in areas. The stream has plenty of tree cover to provide shade. However, the lack of large trees encourages the curves in the creek to widen which allows the water to slow down and create pools throughout the creek. According to Title 15A of the North Carolina Administrative Code, Rule .0302 contains the classifications for waters located within the Neuse River Basin (15A NCAC 02L .0312). Little Rock Creek, however, is not classified and therefore follows Rule .0301 which simply states that it should carry the classification of the stream to which it is a tributary (. Assessment and Methodology The Rapid Stream Assessment Technique (RSAT) uses data measured in the field to determine a stream s condition. These data fields include channel stability, channel scouring or sediment deposition, physical instream habitat, water quality, riparian habitat conditions, and biological indicators of macroinvertebrates. The RSAT ranking for each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Home Of Home Essay Family is defined differently for everyone. Family members can live down the street or in another country. Some people have close knit families while others do not. Similarly, home is also defined differently for everyone. Some people might believe that home is just the house they live in, and with each move comes a new home. Others, however, believe that home is where their family is. People use family as a way to define home in slightly different ways. For example, in her essay On Going Home, Joan Didion writes about wanting to give her daughter home for her birthday. Didion describes her home as being where her family is. In his essay, Coming Home Again, Chang Rae Lee uses his mother as a way of defining his home. In the third... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While her husband does not understand many things her family talks about or why they talk about the particular things they do, Didion is most comfortable talking about such things when she is home with her family. I would like to give her home for her birthday, but we live differently now and I can promise her nothing like that (Didion 3). Didion wants her daughter to grow up with the same sense of home and family that she did, along with the same sentimental values. However, because her daughter will grow up in a different time and place than Didion did, it is unlikely that she will grow up with the same experiences. In Chang Rae Lee s Coming Home Again, he discreetly uses his mother as a way of defining home. Lee uses various fond memories of his mother to illustrate the childhood he had before he went to school away from home at Exeter. He writes, When I was six or seven years old, I used to watch my mother as she prepared our favorite meals (Lee 4). She explains Sometimes when I have become so certain of my ownership of my lane, daring anyone to challenge me, the pizza dude speeds by me in his rusted Chevette. His pizza light atop his car glowing like a beacon reminds me to check myself as I flow through the world. Likewise, we must remember that we share a planet, we like to believe that we are the center of the universe. David Wallace Foster demonstrates how this is our default setting, he states We rarely talk about this sort of natural, basic self centredness, because it s so socially repulsive, but it s pretty much the same for all of us, deep down. Brief History of Beer Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage worldwide, and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea. The average American drinks the equivalent of 38 six packs of beer, a dozen bottles of wine and two quarts of distilled spirits like gin, rum, single malt Scotch, or vodka a year, according to the New York Times. Research has shown that people have been brewing this famous beverage as early as several thousand years before the Common Era. Recent studies claim that the production and consumption of beer was a major factor in the development of civilized society, arguing that the important and often spiritual role beer played in traditional ceremonies and feasts contributed to the development of ritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Production Understanding how beer is fermented is important to recognize the importance of several raw ingredients required in the process. Pure water, quality malts and hops are essential in the brewing process. A source of pure water is necessary to brew good beer. As such, the water used in brewing is purified to rigidly set standards. If it does not have the proper calcium or acidic content for maximum activity of the enzymes in the mash, it must be brought up to that standard. Barley, which is the main raw material in beer, must first be left to begin to germinate. This process is called malting. This prerequisite stage of production of beer forms an industry in itself, called the malting industry. During the malting process, the grain is allowed to germinate with heated water in a vat for a process known as mashing . Then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. This beginning of germination is called the malting. During the malting process the grain is first steeped for approximately three days, then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. The germination process creates a number of enzymes, notably alfa amylase and beta amylase, which will be used to convert the starch in the grain into sugar. National Debt The U.S. national debt is very large at more than three quarters the size of the economy and growing federal spending, especially on entitlements, is quickly driving the debt to damaging levels. Federal spending was about 23 percent of the GDP in 2012 far above the historical average of 20.2 percent. It is projected to surge to nearly 36 percent in less than one generation. The government debtmust be limited in some way or else our economy will face devastating consequences. The government debt has had its highs and lows throughout history in comparison to the GDP, and to reduce it, we must minimize spending on entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare. Since its inception, the United States of America has had fluctuating amounts of debt. High points usually follow in the wake of war or recessions, and low points usually occur in times of relative stability in the U.S. Recently, however, the United States has amassed over 18 trillion dollars in debt. The national debt has been rising steadily since the 1970 s and experienced a large growth around the year 2009. From the years 1929 to 2009, the Debt to GDP ratio was approximately 48 percent on average (excluding the years within the World War II era), while from 2009 2014 the Debt to GDP ratio was approximately 97 percent. It was the world s most notorious (which means famous in a bad kind of way) mathematical problem because it kept the world s greatest minds dumbfounded for more than three centuries! Now who was Fermat? Pierre de Fermat was born in 1601 in south west France. He was not a Mathematician. He was a Councillor at the Toulouse Chamber of petitions. He studied Mathematics in his spare time as a hobby. But he was so brilliant that he discovered the laws of Probabilty, laid the foundation of Calculus and made the greatest contribution to Number Theory. In addition to being brilliant, Fermat was just a bit mischievous. After solving a particular Mathematical problem, he would write to other Mathematicians, challenging them to come up with their own solutions for the problem. Fermat s last theorem can be stated very simply. Have you heard of Pythagorean triplets? They are sets of three whole numbers that satisfy the condition: x2 + y2 = z2. (3,4,5) is one such set of numbers. So is (5, 12, 13). These numbers can be considered to be the sides of right angled triangles. How Did Marcel Duchamp s Use Of Imagery In Pop Art Pop Art c. 1952 1970 Pop art began to emerge in the early 1950s as a result of a booming, capitalist American economy that followed the Second World War. A sense of optimism arose nationwide with new job security, healthy incomes and an absence of military obligations. Post war marriage and baby booms yielded the largest generation in the nations history . The American dream was born and idealized in the media through advertising. Research undertaken by sociologists into consumer habits and behavior became a marketing strategy and corporations adapted their production by tapping into what was fashionable and desirable among the masses. The exponentially growing population gave way to a social group that had never before been established in its own right, teenagers. Now that families could afford to give their children a wholesome education, this age group no longer had to spend their days contributing to the family income at work, which left more time and freedom for leisure activities.
