Blacking is a famous British anthropologist but he later got trained to be an ethnomusicologist and
was a major influential musical figure in history. He often thought that music was humanly

On March 5, 1770, five English colonists were killed in Boston, Massachusetts, by British
soldiers. This day will forever be known as the Boston Massacre. It all started with a British
sentry who was stationed in Boston. The sentry faced verbal harassment from colonists in the
town. Eventually, the group grew larger, and the British sentry called in eight additional soldiers
for backup. The large mob of colonists began to physically attack the colonists with clubs and
other weapons, leading to the British soldiers to fire on the colonists. The colonists were to blame

The parallelism between female suppression and the conquest of the natives are functioning

responsibility. They are lied to, promised things, and bound by a traditional institution rather than
love. Conrad, therefore acknowledges this misconstruction of gender equality, by becoming aware
of its biasness.
It is also argued that Conrad had racist tendencies in Heart of Darkness because he refrains from

within the text several times. But does this truly make him a racist or a sexist, for that matter?
Readers look at these examples as a cut and clear indication that Conrad had no regard for these
groups of people, without a full examination of his intentions. I believe the evolution of Marlow
as a character represents Conrad s true intention. Marlow right off the start of the novel can be
seen as a sexist, maybe because of the lack of a female character in his life. He feels embarrassed
that he has to go to his aunt for a job, but he does acknowledge her pull to get him an opportunity

Cross Country Descriptive Writing
Gunshots, screaming, thumping of footsteps, sweat, heavy breathing, heat, cold, puking, nerves

Research Proposal It is widely known that the Manhattan Project had profound implications on the
world s understanding of science and technology through the development of the first two atomic
bombs which effectively ended World War 2 in 1945. However, this singular event in American
history has been the focus of a major ethical dilemma for decades as well as having a legacy
fraught with conflict and regret. That was what I wanted to explore in my research. I wanted to
discover how the legacy of the Manhattan Project has influenced the current state of affairs in the
world as well as the specific effects the project had on the world s understanding of science and
weaponry. Additionally, I set out to discover, not only how the scientists felt about their
involvement in such a controversial event, but also the difference in perspective between the
American public and the Japanese.
The theoretical basis for the Project began in 1939 when the world s scientific community learned
that Nazi Germany had gained an understanding of the secrets of splitting a uranium atom. Albert
Einstein quickly decided to use his influence and stature to propose the military potential of an

of college textbooks has increased by an alarming amount of three times the rate of inflation,
