Imagination In The Mark On The Wall, By W. B. Yeats
After losing considerably in the war, people had to begin to decide for themselves what was
important. Their identity had been marred by reality and the only way to fix this was to shed
their old priorities and construct new ones. Among these priorities were: creativity, originality,
and possibility. Imagination is simple because one can access it from anywhere. For this reason,
authors utilize it often. This is evident in Virginia Woolf s, The Mark on the Wall and W. B.
Yeats s, Sailing to Byzantium. Woolf s narrator claims, I can think sitting still as well as standing
up which is only made possible by imagination (Woolf 2148). Similarly, Critics writing on [Yeats
s] poem have perceived Byzantium as, variously, a representation of the imagination, the
imaginative act, the soul, the vision, and Unity of Being (Pruitt 225). Of course this Byzantium
Yeats references is only one in the mind slightly based off of memory. This corresponds with
Woolf s work and how she uses memory as a beginning point and, therefore...in remembering the
event the narrator is transported back to the scene so that it seems to her to be happening in the
present, or happening over and over (Cyr 199). Likewise, in Sailing to Byzantium the reader is
invited, to contemplate such an ideal location, projecting it over the past, present, and what is to
come as if it too, is out of the reach of time because it is constantly occurring in the imagination
(Tucker 68). Also using imagination,

A Literary Analysis Of Kathleen Bowen s The Demon Lover
What Drove Her? In The Demon Lover, Kathleen Drover is the protagonist and represents a
British wife and mother who returned from the country to her war ravaged home in London
hoping to retrieve some of her family s personal belongings. Mrs. Drover s story unfolds as a
haunting of supernatural means driven by the ghostof her sweetheart, an un named soldier
presumed to have been killed during World War I
twenty five years earlier. The dark imagery of the
story is craft fully controlled by Bowen and fosters a heavy sense of circumstance, anxiety, and even
ambiguity, which transports the reader through nightmarish stages of suspense and ultimately
horror. The tone of The Demon Loveris initially set by Bowen as Drover returns to her abandoned,
gloomy, London street in anticipation of a quick gathering of personal belongings from her
boarded up, delapitated former home. As a depressing back drop to an even heavier story, the war
blitzed city provides the mood of eeriness, chaos, and depression. German rockets have ravaged...

Drover s demise through Bowen s intense imagery paralleling history with that of a ghost tale. The
vacant house, cold air, the mysterious letter whose source is un documented, a faceless lover from
the past, un fulfilled promise, an empty marriage, persistent rain, and a taxi with no apparent
destination come together during a war torn time to create unconventional feelings of the super
natural. Even the bruise in the wallpaper assumes a damaged position and a haunting significance.
The ambiguity of Bowen s ending of The Demon Lover fits perfectly as the final destination of
Drover s taxi ride is uncertain, but Bowen s imagery throughout the story emphasizes the idea that
through descriptive language and some horror, the forgotten past exists in Kathleen s mind to haunt

Elder Abuse And Neglect Essay
Elder Abuse has become a major issue in our country today. Statistics indicate a high rate of
abuse of the elderly population. Unfortunately, elderly people are abused in our country on a
daily basis. They are either abused by their friends, relatives or in their own homes by their
caretakers. Also, elderly people can be and are abused in the facilities in which they are receiving
care. It is quite difficult for people to understand how elderly people are being abused without
knowing the cause, effects and solutions of the issue. The purpose of this paper is to help one
understand what causes elder abuse, the effects it will have and the solutions to elder abuse. This
way we may completely understand and prevent it from happening. .... Show more content on

Our elders deserve much better than that from us. We are the home of the free not the abused.
Let s start with the different types of what is considered elder abuse. Elder abuse is the term that
refers to any knowing, intentional, or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person that
causes harm or a serious risk of harm to an elder. (Administration on Aging (AOA)). Fifty states
have now passed some form of elder abuse prevention laws to help with this ongoing issue. Elder
abuse also includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, emotional
abuse, and self neglect. Now let s explore what these types of abuse are so we may fully
comprehend them. Physical Abuse is inflicting physical pain or injury on an elder. It is also the
second most common form of abuse. Some examples being: slapping, bruising, or restraining by
physical or chemical means. Also, improperly restraining or drugging an elderly person is also
considered a form of physical abuse (Angela, 1999 2011). Lastly depriving or forcing as elderly
person to eat or drink is considered Physical Abuse. Sexual Abuse is any non consensual sexual
contact of any kind to the elder. Sexual elder abuse is perhaps the most worst of all acts
perpetrated by nursing home staff and caretakers upon elders. Sexual abuse occurs when any
individual engages in nonconsensual sexual contact of any kind with an elderly person. Sexual
abuse can also

Persuasive Essay On Closets
Although the winter season is filled with celebration, love and family time it can also be coupled
with lots of clutter! The transition from winter to spring doesn t just happen with weather and
food but also all throughout the house. There is nothing quite like being able to open up all your
windows and doors and transform your home from it s winter version to it s spring ready self!
I m sure this is where the term spring cleaning was coined. An all inclusive clean is definitely
necessary, but today I was inspired by Tommy John, a men s underwear company to focus on
closets specifically. A closet, in my opinion, can never get enough TLC. With ongoing organization,
bettering your closet is a constant journey!

The Religious Beliefs Of Organisations
The religious beliefs of organisations are responsible for altering management practice in various
foreign civilizations, yet when these moral principles are integrated with other devices used in
Western society, it can create the most influential environment that thrives on work ethic and
profitability. As such cultural beliefs are predominantly not a factor in countries such as Australia,
many consider that a religious organisation is far more effective in its managementpractice. Despite
this, it is the way in which these countries utilise religionin their workplace that makes it merely
another device to inculcate the desirable outcomes that Western countries are similarly aiming to
achieve; therefore, creating similar productivities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The verses in the Holy Qur an state the highest emphasis on trusteeship, the righteousness of hard

a profound sense of Confucianism where the core religious values are based upon collectivism,
loyalty to the organisation, dedication and the importance of the social hierarchy (Cultural Value
for Young Generation Employees 2008). The religious values that many countries recognise are not
an integral factor of Western society. While there may be the same basic principles, there are some
differences that are due to each countries cultural values, making the issue of how these ethics can
effect and influence management practice, particularly relevant in todays society.
The ways in which religious values can positively alter management are constantly observed in
other cultures and societies. The studies of religious organisations have copious potential to provide
pivotal information on ideal management practice as well as enhancing our understanding of the
overall concept of management and its intangible assets. This concept has been discussed and a
sociological viewpoint has been established where a religious organisation may provide a greater
meaningful structure for employees to embellish and thrive; clearly promoting a motivated and
hard working community. Max Weber, a German

The Complexity Of George And Minnie, By John Steinbeck
George and Lennie had an unheard of relationship throughout the novella. They were the exception
to the overall theme of loneliness that each of the other characters felt in some way.
Both characters were extremely loyal to each other , however the significance of Lennies actions
meant that George had no choice but to kill Lennie
Slim s character was highly valued in the novella, and the influence of his opinion is demonstrated
in many cases especially in the final section when helping the reader understand how George had no
choice but to kill lennie.
The reader is able to notice that his voice is the voice of rationalism throughout the book and that
the ranch workers are aware of this.
In instances such as the shooting of Candy s dog, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of this is when He crushes Curly s hand his fist lost in Lennies paw the reader
can understand that the lack of control over his strength and handling of a situation that came to the
killing of a person, meant that George had no choice but to kill Lennie.
Despite Lennie s limitations and lack of relations to other characters, it is obvious to the reader
how highly he values Georges opinion and trusts George to never to leave him.
When he kills the puppy he says maybe George won t care Now maybe George won t let me tend
no rabbits he expresses worry, which translates to show his yearning for Georges approval and is
relatable, allowing the reader to form an empathetic view on him.
This puts emphasis on how dependent he was on George.
When Curly fights with Lennie he only defends himself when George tells him to get him he can
then only stop when George says Leggo his hand Lennie. Leggo . He does not posses the ability to
have any control in the situation. When Curlys wife starts struggling, he is incapable of dealing
with it and kills her instead.
Even when he is unaware of Crookes playing with him demonstrates the inability of thinking for
himself. George wasn t able to save Lennie and with his lack of dependence meant that letting him
escape, left him not only a threat but also vulnerable to those seeking power.
Curly was an aggressive man who seeking vengeance on Lennie. Lennie

All systems also have inputs, processor, outputs and management (Hamilton 1997).
Input is something put into a system to achieve the results, such as human resources, material,
money (Hamilton 1997).
Output is the result which is produced by a system from a specific input (intended and unintended)
(Hamilton 1997). For instance, an electrical utility takes on input from the environment in form of
raw material, such as coal, oil, water power; and provides output in form of electricity (Yuvienco
2008).
The transformation to convert a system s inputs to the outputs is called process .
People influence the conversion process through management with standards, feedback and initiator
or functions for planning, organizing, directing and controlling (Hamilton 1997) 3.6.2. Sub system
Sub system is the part of system, is the group of elements and provides a picture of the structure of
the system (Hamilton 1997). Each sub system affects the other sub system and the system as a
whole (Vyas 2010). 3.6.3. Boundary
A boundary could be thought of as an imaginary line which determines what is inside and what is
outside of a system (Tamas 1987), and which components should be treated as the parts of system
(Hamilton 1997). 3.6.4. Feedback
Feedback is the reaction of the environment to the output (Vyas 2010). The information

Casey At The Bat Compare And Contrast
In the poem Casey at the Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and Casey
shows differences and similarities. The first similarity is that David and Casey were both faced
with big problems. One quote of proof from Casey at the Bat that they were both faced with big
problems is, The Outlook wasn t brilliant for the Mudville nine that day. This explains that Casey s
team was not going to win. The second quote of proof from Davidand Goliath that they were both
faced with big problems is, When the Israelite soldiers saw Goliath, they were scared and ran off.
This explains that David is faced with a big problem because the soldiers were frightened by
Goliath, which puts his village in danger and leaves David to fight Goliath all by himself... Show

The first difference of David and Casey is that Casey fails and David succeeds. The first quote
from David and Goliath that shows David succeeds is He put a rock in his sling and swung the
sling around by its straps. When he let go of one strap, the rock flew out and hit Goliath on the
forehead. It cracked his skull, and he fell facedown on the ground. 50 David defeated Goliath
with a sling and a rock. He killed him without even using a sword. This explains that David killed
Goliath, which is a success for David and his town. The quote from Casey at the Bat is Casey
has struck out. This quote explains that Casey has failed because he struck out. Secondly, Casey
and David is Casey got overconfident and David believed in himself. Proof that Casey got
overconfident from Casey at the Bat is He lightly doffed his hat. This explains that he was really
confident and he believed to much and he was not being very humble. Another citing of the
source from David and Goliath is I ll go out and fight him myself. This explains that David is
brave but not too valiant. Finally, David is humble and Casey is not. Proof that David is humble

Civil Service Benefits
Requiring all high school students to spend one year in service after high school is an amazing
idea. A civil service is a great way to teach young adults responsibility and rigor. Civil service
teaches students great responsibilities like tending to wounds and learning how to care for
yourself, as well as others. young adults often have jobs other than just to protect our country in
the civil service, they often clean, serve food, and much more. These jobs are put in place to
teach these new soldiers rigor in their daily tasks that can be put in place for future jobs, therefore
congress should definitely pass this law. In addition to giving some students an idea of what they
would like to do for the rest of their lives, civil service opens... Show more content on

Often learning trial and error, most young adults haven t learned how to take care of themselves.
Not to mention the fact that being in the civil service is highly dangerous. Some families would
be very upset if their child died in the service because they were forced to go there. The
population would significantly decrease if this law was issued because millions of heroes die
every year being in the civil service, and as of now only males are on a list to go. Some student
just aren t in good enough physical shape to join the civil service and may require more effort/time
to be in peak physical shape instructors would like. This would waste valuable time in training than
just letting those students go off to college. Because some students would like to be in fields
requiring many years of school and don t have time to serve in the civil service, only certain young
adults should be required to the civil service for a year. So all together, I think Congress should
pass this law, but put stricter limitations on who has to go into the civil service for a year because
students haven t learned valuable life skills and some have important careers to attend

According to the finding in the above table the regression equation was
Y = 1.381+ 0.168 X1 + 0.389 X2+ 0.636X3 + 0.304X4
Where Y is the dependent variable (effectiveness of inventory management), X1 is procurement

The strength of each predictor (independent) variable influence on the dependent variable can be
investigated via standardized Beta coefficient. Hence, the regression coefficient explain the average
amount of change in dependent variable that caused by a unit of change in the independent variable.
Therefore, as shown the table above fund is the most contributing factor in the prediction of
effectiveness of inventory management in Este woreda public sector with beta value 0.359

The American Election Process Is Good For The Country
The American Election Process Ever since the early beginning of America standing as its own
individual free country, we annually elect a new leader to run our country for a 4 year term.
Every new time to elect a new president, Americans are pressured to go out and vote for their
leader that they want to run the country. Somewhere through the many years and elections, people
have begun to outcry that the elections are not fair or biased and has raised the question if the way
elections are run, is good for the country. The United Stateselectionprocess is good as it fairly elects
a new president every four years, it provokes people into exercising their basic right to vote, and it
helps always elect a new candidate over having a single leader for life.
Throughout the history of America, a lot of things have happened for Americans to be able to
elect their leader. The Revolutionary war was the pinnacle point as it was the war that separated
America from the control of Great Britain and is what landed America as a country of its own
and not to be controlled by any other country. But a downside to this war was that even though it
let people elect their leaders, it only let a specific person to elect a leader, specifically white male
land owners. Next came the civil war which was fought to free African American slaves from the
hand of the Confederate States of America, which wanted to succeed from the north and keep
slavery as they deemed it was their right to own slaves, and

Tribal People In India
INTRODUCTION: WHO ARE TRIBALS?
Tribal people are defined as those who have followed ways of life for many generations that are
largely self sufficient, and are clearly different from the mainstream and dominant society .
Constitution of India has not defined the word tribe but Article 366(25) of the Constitution of India
refers to the Scheduled Tribes as the tribes or tribal communities or the parts of or groups within
such tribes or tribal communities which the Indian President may specify by public notification
under Article 342(1) . The word tribe means different for different person. For a layman it simply
means simple folk living in forest and hills, for others who know little about tribals consider
them as colourful people famous for their dance and song, for an administrator tribal word
signifies a group of citizens whose welfare is the social responsibility of the President of India and
for an anthropologist it means a special field for study of a social phenomena.
The Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes Commission appointed by the President of India on 28
April 1960 pursuant to Article 339 of the Constitution of India in its report of 14 October 1961
stated that As these groups are presumed to form the oldest ethnological sector of the population,
the term Adivasi which means original inhabitant has become current among certain people. The
International Labour Organization has classified tribal people as indigenous . Tribal people are

Hawthorne, a short story that demonstrates the 19th century couple, Aylmer and Georgiana, who
are faced with the predicament of an imperfection taking the shape of a birthmark upon Georgina
s cheek. By 19th century standards, Georgiana is successful at fulfilling the role of a wife. What
does the lifestyle of a 19th century wife consist of? It is thought by Christopher Sallus that men

Leadership And Leadership Of Mother Teresa
Leadership is critical. It is the key to how everything is started. A leader is a person who is
willing to sacrifice their lives and their reputations to assist someone or something that needs help.
One person took the less fortunate and the sick under her wing. She created and established hope
for those who had lost all hope. Mother Teresadedicated her life to all those who needed help and
sanctuary. She established many places and groups that focused on helping the poor, she was
selfless through devastation, and she made a name for not only herself, but for the poor and sick
as well. Mother Teresa was born in SkopjeOttoman Empire, today known as Macedonia, on
August 26, 1910 (McCarthy). Her mother showed her the kindness of her heart and gave her a
new outlook on life. After realizing what life truly meant she became a nun at the age of
eighteen giving her life up to God (Mother Teresa Timeline). Soon after becoming a nun she
made several personal vows. One of these vows was to obey everything God had told her to, no
matter the extremity (McCarthy). One day Mother Teresa said she heard God. God had told
Mother Teresa she needed to serve only the poorest of his creatures, the destitute, the dying, and
the lonely for the rest of her life (Parks). Once she said her goodbyes, and packed her things she
went on her way. Mother Teresa decided to go to the streets of India to serve those in need.

estimated 208 million people internationally consume illegal drugs. The question is why do we
conform to a society that is dependent on such substances? Perhaps drugculture is still present due
to the references we witness on a daily basis. Witnessing this has resulted in drugs being a constant
norm in society, the recently published novel, The Other Wes Moore; addresses drug culture. This
novel actively demonstrates the choices we make in our everyday life, resulting in consequences
that ultimately make or break our futures.

Females Should Be Allowed In Sports Essay
We currently live in the 21st century were people constantly fight for equality, but one of the
major issues dealing with equality is whether or not girls should be allowed to play on boys
sport teams. For starts we have to ask the question whether it is even appropriate for females to
play with males. Considering the fact of simple differences in sporting tastes and physical make
up. Don t get me wrong only a few people argue that females can t play on maleteams. Believe it or
not some can actually compete with some males in sports. If you actually look into there is a
significant difference in what males play and what females play. Along the lines in high school

Look at it this way imagine some like Ray Lewis sacking a quarterback that is a female or someone
like LeBron James dunking on someone like Maya Moore. Spectators wouldn t really like to see
that happen. If females were really able to play on the same team as males, organizations would
have to invest in separate shower areas and changing rooms for simple reason for sexually
harassment for one. Secondly you have to think of terms of injuries, with females in the same
league as males injuries will totally increase. On the professional level players actually get paid
millions every year, with females as their teammates, sporting organizations have to worry about
relationship taking place on their teams, difficulty in deciding salary caps to keep everyone
happy. I think females should be able to participle in sports, I just don t think females shouldn t
be able to participating in professional sports with males simply because very really dangerous for
people who are participating, Males are just more aggressive than females are and they could easy

see if he and his friends are really up for escaping the unsolvable maze. Knowing Thomas he can

willing to do almost anything, just as long as he knows it is going to help someone in the end.
When they were all placed into the maze they had no memories at all. The maze isn t an ordinary
place at all. They are completely surrounded by huge concrete walls with four gates on every
side. To make it better every night the gates closed, leaving them safe from the dark and deadly

Memory Vs Bilingual And Memory
Bilinguals and memory Language is an important way to communicate with people around us in
the world, but many people around us speak more than one language. Bilinguals are people who
can speak at least two languages. There are a lot of debating on whether monolinguals have better
memory or bilinguals. Many research has shown similar results with the similar experiments. It is
true that monolinguals do know more words in a languagebut when it comes to memory, bilinguals
have better memory. Bilinguals do make grammar mistakes a lot, and mix up the languages to get
their point across but overall, they are better able to focus on what to remember.
Body
We always hear that knowing two languages is better than one, it will take you farther in future.
People who speak at least two languages are bilinguals. A study conducted by Blom et. al (2017)
compare bilinguals and monolinguals and their memory ability (p. 3). Bilinguals have
outperformed monolinguals in memory experiment (Blom et. al, 2017, p. 1). According to Blom
et. al (2017) bilinguals pick up cues to know remember and answer correctly (p. 2). If a bilingual
knows both languages really well than their cognitive ability is much higher than a monolingual
(Blom et. al, 2017, p. 2). The study had 176 children from age six or seven participating in the
study, all participants Socioeconomic status, age, and intelligence matched (Blom et al, 2017, p. 4).

The Importance Of Becoming A Professional Baseball Player

lot to become a good baseball player but it takes even more to understand the game. Almost every
day after school I would sprint up the hill next to our house and plow through the door then beg
my dad to play baseball with me. We would be in the back yard for hours upon hours throwing
and catching. We would play whiffle ball for about an hour and then as soon as my dad hit a home

One of the primary lifestyle changes is daily life used to include high levels of physical
activities. The way people live their daily life is different from the past; and it may affect their
health. Actually, it might cause future dangerous consequences such as a heart attack, high
blood pressure, and obesity. People in the past used to do many physical efforts that helped them
to burn the calories inside their bodies. They did not have modern transportations like subways
or buses. Moreover, if they want to buy something, they will go directly to the store, whereas
people now can buy a variety of products online from Amazon or IKEA. Let us ask ourselves
this question; do we do enough physical activities to burn the calories from our food? The
answer is NO for most people. We know there is not a perfect lifestyle. However, some people
follow a healthy life; their lives contain several activities such as athletics, jogging, or yoga.
Even when they want to go to work, they prefer to walk and not use any vehicles. In contrast,
most people do not do any physical efforts. Moreover, they always use cars, buses, and
motorcycles instead of walking. If we think deeply, we will discover the link between the changes
in our lifestyle and globalization. Globalization has spread technology all over the world. People

Descriptive Essay On Ardmore
Ardmore is centrally located between two major cities, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Dallas,
Texas. Because of the convenient and centralized location, Ardmore has and will continue to
grow in great numbers. Along with the growing population, come the growth in crime rates, drug
use, and the number of homeless individuals you see in the downtown streets. These growing
factors have seemed to mold the citizens of Ardmore vulnerable and almost as fragile as glass.
For this reason, I would choose one of Dale Chihuly s glass chandeliers or towns to display
publicly. Dale Chihuly is a glass artist that specializes in the glassblowing, a technique that involves
forming glass into different shapes and sizes, after first heating and shaping, using a blowpipe or

Convention Center. The convention center is easily accessible, located right off of Interstate

areas. A glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly would be the perfect way to help tell the story of
Ardmore s past, which has been known for its crime in its early years, and would tell the story of
Ardmore s present state of fragility and vulnerability. Art has the power to tell a story, whether it

only meet with me after the assignment was due. I then remember a small library in the city that I
reside in and that was the Harrison Township Public Library.
The Interview The interview was held Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Harrison Township Public
library. I arrived 15 minutes before 11:00 A.M. and did last minute question changes before
walking into the library. The library is quite small (perhaps 2000 square feet in total size). I talk to
the librarian on staff and she directed me to the main office area that was at one point a storage

When kids are younger, they are told that being different is good. And it is, sometimes. A lot of

Some of his experiences there show that being different isn t all that good, sometimes. The book,

anything critical, I have to say I watch Joy Womack s vlogs every day and am highly appreciative
of the window into her life. Whether or not we all agree on her choices, she is sharing something
unique and is making her dreams come true before our very eyes.
I have actually followed her story since I came across the New York Times coverage on youtube

school was giving her. Now she is older and more experienced, we are perhaps more inclined to
think negatively about her given the past few years events; an adult no longer a child.

Design Proposal Report For Fatigue Monitoring System
Design Proposal Report for
Fatigue Monitoring System (FMS)
By Alvin Kuan, Sarah Fink, Shian Su and Suliman Altaleb
1. Abstract
This paper presents some background briefing, implantation, ethical responsibility, and action plan
of FMS design plan. FMS is a model purposely designed to detect and measure fatigue variables,
i.e., blinking rate, yawning rate and head tilt for fatigue predictions. In addition, FMS will
establish a crude estimate of fatigue and warns the user if a threshold has been exceeded. This
FMS will provide real time measurements of fatigue which, if integrated with good risk
management practice, will result in reduced and controlled recurrence of serious safety incidents.
The focus the project is to understand and appreciate the essential components in designing
successful and commercially viable device. This system employs non invasive electrodes which
are positioned specifically for each of blinking and yawning tests in order to attain
electrocardiogram signals accordingly. FMS is also able to detect head nodding patterns via a gyro
sensor specifically located to monitor axial coordination of head.
1. Background
Fatigue results in an impaired decision making and judgment, slowed reflexes and responses,
absent mindedness, memory lapses etc. Fatigue is often a root cause of major accidents. Fatigue
is believed to be the reason of more than 20% of road fatalities in Victoria Fatigue related accidents
are more likely to result in fatalities

Examples Of Stereotypes In The Myth Of Latin Women
The most that struck me about the myth of the Latinos was stereotypes and how these cause
prejudice against this people. The Merriam Webster Dictionary define stereotypes as to believe
unfairly that people or things with a particular characteristic are the same . As we all know we live
in a society full of stereotypes about Latinos, because they are mostly seen as vulgar, uneducated
and very sensual individuals. Latinos are commonly rejected and criticized, in other countries like
United States. I disagree with the stereotypes about Latinos, because stereotypes are absurd

Gun Laws And Stricter Gun Control
Gun laws is a controversial topic on both sides of the legislative. We have some that argue the
right to bear arms set in the Constitution of the United States and then we have the epidemic of
gun violence amongst innocent people that are advocating for stricter gun laws and even the
banning on assault weapons. There are many points that can be argued from each side of the
leglasitive with evidence to back the claims that they are stating with regards to gun laws. The
right to bear arms is considered to be a pillar of the constitution and some people feel that it is a
right that should not be infringed upon. The right to bear arms, a right that won us freedom and
also has protected us for years. But, as the nation evolves it is evident that our second amendment
could probably stand to evolve with it. When I think of gun laws I often tend to take the middle of
the road approach to who should own a gun and what should happen if you possess a gun illegally.
Former President Barack Obamamade the plea for stricter gun control. His thought was that there
need to be a broader background check as well as exhortation to federal agencies so that existing
laws are fully enforced. But how does what President Obama was trying to inforce take a stance
when in Texas, gun owners were taking full advantage of the new right of open carry. I think that the
open carry law needed to be investigated a little bit more before being put in place. But, the good
thing I guess that came out

A Streetcar Named Desire By Susan Glaspell
In any great story, one can find a unique trait that sets it apart from all others. Susan Glaspell s
Trifles would be incomplete if not for the lonely farmhouse. Romeo and Juliet is nothing if not a
tragedy about star crossed lovers. The tales that we now know as classics received that label
because something about them was just too great to ignore. Although many dramas and stories
often find strengths in their story or setting, A Streetcar Named Desire demonstrates the
significance of powerful characters. Specifically, Blanche DuBoisis arguably the most essential
character to the plot. Raised on a plantation among the wealthy, she is a ringing example of
sophistication and femininity. The way she speaks and acts portray this, as her words are more
often than not poetic in nature and almost too flawless. She s also able to use her words to
manipulate others, especially when it comes to dodging questions about her mysterious past. All
in all, Blanche is a truly well crafted character because of how unique and unalike she is to any of
the other characters in A Streetcar Named Desire, and most of it can be attributed to her
distinctive voice. Blanche s character is, as a whole, excessively poetic and complicated in the way
she talks. Her pattern of speechserves to reflect her comfortable upbringing and status as a more
refined and elite citizen when compared to the other characters of the play. Specifically, when
speaking to Mitch, Blanche uses poetic speech to make

Evaluate the role of Leon Trotsky in Bolshevik success in...
Leon Trotsky played a very significant role in the Bolshevik success in the period 1917 1924.
According to A.J Koutsoukis , his contributions in the years 1917 to 1924 had been second, if not
equal to that of Lenin himself. Trotsky played a significant role in establishing Bolshevik control in
Russia. He was also very instrumental and one of the reasons for the Red Army winning the civil
war. Trotsky was regarded by his supporters as the saviour for his country for his efforts in
organising the Red Army during the Civil War. According to historian E.H Carr , Trotsky was a
great administrator, great intellectual, and a great orator... but at times was overbearing and lead to
his eventual downfall.

An army had to be organised supplied and led effectively. As leader of the Supreme Military
Council, Trotsky was able to repair the Red army from an undisciplined volunteer force without
officers, into a regular army with conscription and severe discipline imposed by former imperial
officers, and even those soldiers within the army. Trotsky undertook to conjure an army of
noticeable void. The armed forces of the old regime had vanished, and the number of men was
extremely low, and unimpressive. From slender beginnings grew the Red Army which, after two
and a half years, had five million men under arms. He introduced a regime of Terror, and he
created policies for within the army that included Anyone who incites anybody to retreat, to desert,
or to not fulfil orders will be shot .
Former officers or military specialists of the Czar regime were invited by Trotsky to act as
instructors. Political commissars were appointed to these military specialists to ensure loyalty. As a
result of this strict regime, Trotsky was able to create a united force, capable of defeating the
disorganised white forces , and thus subduing a possible threat to the new communist government.
Due to the leadership of Trotsky, the Red Armies were victorious over the Whites. The White Army
could never gain the support of the peasantry, but they could have done this by reallocating the

Romeo And Juliet-A True Tragedy
Romeo and Juliet A True Tragedy A tragedy is defined as a play dealing with tragic events and
having an unhappy ending, especially one concerning the downfall of the main character
(Google, 2016). Shakespeare has deviously crafted Romeo and Juliet to become a famous
tragedy alongside Titus Andronicus. These plays fall into this category due to the character s
fate, their flaws and thus creating great sorrow. Romeo and Juliet is a battle of power and fate as
two nemesis battle each other to discover who reigns superior. Romeo and Juliet is a tale of fate,
where destiny reigns superior. Romeo and Juliet were born into two households, both alike in
dignity (The Prologue, 1), where an ancient grudge causes a family mutiny. This grudge destroys
any chance of Romeo and Juliet becoming husband and wife unless their family s relationships
ameliorated. Nevertheless Romeo and Juliet married clandestinely and were warned by the priest;

swords? To lie discoloured by this place of peace? Romeo! O, pale! who else? What, Paris too?
And steeped in blood? Ah, what an unkind hour is guilty of this lamentable chance! (Act 5,
Scene 3, 151) . Friar Lawrence feels guilty as his plan has failed and has killed Romeo and Paris
in the process. He says this in disgust as Juliet is just beginning to wake, only to find her
husband dead. This great sadness overwhelms Juliet and she therefore takes her own life. This
sadness touched many as Prince says; For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her

Being alone with this prior lover, though, brought back that longing for him and it was stronger
than ever before. There was something she had with Alcee that was not present in her

not put her finger on. It was passion. The zeal she shared with Alcee overtook her and she was
the first one to initiate the situation that her and Alcee found themselves in when ... she [Calixta]
rolled up a piece of bagging and Alcee helped her to thrust it beneath the crack (532). As with the
rest of the story, the imagery in this quote is extremely sexual. Calixta knew what she wanted and
she was anything but shy in going out of her way to get it. Alcee may not have been aware at first,

Spice Research Paper
Spices had a massive impact on humanity. To start, it impacted trade in a couple of ways. Starting
around the first century B.C., spices started to become a very popular good to trade for. Therefore,
the Alexandrians and eventually the Romans came to figure out that they could sail over to India
with their knowledge of sea routes and understanding of how the winds blew. Because of this, the
Romans could directly tradewith India and not have to trade with the Arabians. This led to the
Romans taking control of the Red Sea and eventually attacking the southern ports of Arabia,
altering how trading was prior to this. Standage states on page 70 that about 120 Roman ships per
year sailed to India to trade by the first century A.D. Then, the Silk... Show more content on

Traders would help the mapmakers create their maps by giving them information on their travels
including how long it took to reach their destination. With the information given, map makers were
able to make accurate maps. Finally, spices had an impact on religion. Buddhism spread to multiple
countries in Asia as traders traveling along the Silk Road and beyond shared their religion.
Hinayana Buddhism was spread from Sri Lanka, and Mahayana Buddhism spread from India.
Thomas the Apostle brought Christianity to India by taking a spice trader s ship to Cranganore,
India. Additionally, the most prominent spread of religion was Islam, which was spread by force.
Within a century of the death of the prophet Muhammad in 632 A.D., his followers had conquered
all of Persia, Mesopotamia, Palestine and Syria, Egypt, the rest of the northern African coast, and
most of Spain (Standage 77). This intertwines with the spice trade because all of the Arabic trading
quarters in other countries converted to Islam and spread the Islamic religion through their trades.

Fascism And Anti Rationalism
Fascism has an anti character it is defined by what it opposes. Discuss.
Fascism as an ideology is opposed to much of what many perceive as belonging in a modern
society such as its anti Semitic, anti race and anti rationalist beliefs. In contrast, fascism is also
accustomed to having many beliefs that it is positive towards such as Ultranationalism,
Expansionism and Corporatism. Therefore, Fascism does have an anti character as it is defined by
what it opposes.
Fascism is anti rationalist and counter enlightenment which was a very late nineteenth century
policy. The enlightenment was based on the ideas of universal reason, natural goodness and
progress. It was committed to liberating humans from the darkness of irrationalism and superstition.
Friedrich Nietzsche proposed that humans are motivated by powerful emotions rather than their
rational mind which he called will to power . Many Fascists instead believe in vitalism where
organisms gain characterises from instinct rather than reason. Anti rationalism has influenced
fascism in many ways. Firstly, it gave fascism anti intellectualism reflected in its tendency to go
straight into action. For example, Mussolini s favourite slogans included action not talk and
inactivity is death . Secondly, by abandoning the standard of universal reason fascism placed its
faith in history alone. For example, Mussolini promised to take Italy back to the time of the
Roman Empire. While Hitler created a Third Reich to follow

The Legacy Of Hip Hop And Rap, And Its Release Changed The...
The son of a professor raised in a middle class suburb, Kanye West was never supposed

divorced when he was three, he moved with his mother to Chicago. His mom worked as the
chair of the English Department at the nearby Chicago State University, and Kanye grew up in
relative comfort in a nicer suburb of Chicago. West became fascinated with music at a young
age, eventually leading him to drop out of college to pursue it full time. His first two albums,
The College Dropout and Late Registration established himself as a premier player in the rap
game, as well as paved the way for his third album, Graduation. Released in September of 2007,
Graduation was very well received by critics and the general public alike, but its importance
goes much further than simply sounding appealing. Graduation epitomizes the changing
landscape of hip hop and rap, and its release changed the rap industry into what it is today.
In the fall of 2002, Kanye West suffered a near fatal car crash that would change his life
forever. The crash left him with a shattered jaw that need to be wired shut, and a whole new
perspective to work from. Prior to this, West had been trying for years to secure a rap contract,
but labels refused to give him a chance. He had rose to prominence as a beat maker, particularly
through his work on Jay Z s most iconic album, The Blueprint, but many in the music industry

Somewhere in the remote Nevada desert is a chunk of land some six miles wide north to south and
ten miles east to west. On that land is located a paradox: A secret base that everyone knows about.
Area 51 is a parcel of land in the Nellis Range Complex located about 30 miles south of the town of
Rachel, Nevada. In Area 51, near the dry bed of Groom Lake, is a test facility for military aircraft.
It is a base was so secret that even though it had been there over forty years it wasn t until 1994 that
the government confirmed that it existed.

The SR 71 was designed totally in secret. With a top speed of over Mach 3 (three times the speed
of sound, more than 2,200 miles an hour) it was, and remains, the fastest aircraft ever built. It went
into service in the mid sixties and was only recently retired. During that entire time no SR 71 was
ever caught and shot down. Some speculate that the
Black Bird s successor is in test at Groom Lake right now.
Over that last decade Area 51 has also come to be associated with UFO s. There were stories that
a flying saucer, that allegedly crashed at Roswell, New Mexico, had been brought to the Nellis

Music Education And Its Effect On Education
The German philosopher, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, referred to a life without music as a
mistake ( Don t ). Unfortunately, many children never get the opportunity to discover the
fulfillment that music can bring to their lives. They are denied this chance by an unfair educational
system. Music education is beneficial to the student throughout his entire life, thus it should not be
cast aside and neglected as it often is in the public school system today, but instead schools should
do just the opposite; treat musiceducation as a priority.
The evidence makes clear the benefits of playing a musical instrument on students abilities to
perform academically. For example, the Harmony Project is an after school program that provides
music lessons to children from underprivileged neighborhoods of California. Ninety three percent
of seniors in the program have graduated from high school in four years and gone on to college.
This is truly incredible when one considers that the communities where the program takes place
have dropout rates of over 50% (Turner). One explanation for this significant improvement is the
direct impact playing music has on the students brains. A study conducted by Nina Kraus, a
neurobiologist at Northwestern University, demonstrates this impact. By running tests on the
program s members, Kraus data suggests students who had studied music for two years were better
at processing speech than those who had been in the program for only one year (Turner).

Creation Of The National Incident Management System (NIMS)
First and foremost, emergency management policy must have a set standard at all levels. An
example of this was the creation of the National Incident Management System [NIMS] and the
Incident Command Systems [ICS]. As an example, NIMS creates a nationwide template that is
consistent and can be used by all government, non government and private sector entities during or
after a domestic incident (MD NIMS/ICS).
With that being said; emergency management policies should be crafted by all levels including the
Department of Homeland Security [DHS], State and Local Emergency Management Agencies and
first responders at all levels. One of the steps taken by the federal government was enacting the
National Response Framework [NRF]. The NRF is a policy

The Major Causes And Effects Of Overcrowding In Cities
Overcrowding in cities
Many countries of the world are currently experiencing problems caused by rapidly growing
populations in urban areas, and both governments and individuals have a duty to find ways to
overcome these problems. Overpopulation can lead to overcrowding and poor quality housing in
many large cities. Poorly heated or damp housing could cause significant health problems,
resulting in illness, such as bronchitis or pneumonia. Another serious consequence of
overcrowding is a rising crime rate as poor living conditions may lead young people in particular
to take desperate measures and turn to crime or drugs. There are some effects of overcrowding.
The first one is loss of fresh water. According to UN Water, 75% of planet Earthis covered in water.
97.5% of that is ocean and 2.5% is freshwater. 70% of freshwater is divided into glaciers and ice
caps and the remaining 30% into land surface water, such as rivers, lakes, ponds and
groundwater. Most of the freshwater resources are either unreachable or too polluted, leaving less
than 1% of the world s freshwater, or about 0.003% of all water on Earth, readily accessible for
direct human use. According to the Global Outlook for Water Resources to the Year 2025, it is
estimated that by 2025, more than half of the world population will be facing water based
vulnerability and human demand for water will account for 70% of all available freshwater.
Furthermore, a report in November 2009 by the 2030 Water Resources Group suggests that by
2030, in some developing
Saigal 2 regions in the world, water demand will exceed supply by 50% and a report jointly
produced by more than two dozen U.N. bodies states that, By 2030, nearly half of the world s
people will be living in areas of acute water shortage. The planet is in the midst of what the United
Nations is calling a Global Water Crisis. Freshwater is the most fundamental finite resource with no
substitutes for most uses, yet we are consuming fresh water at least 10 times faster than it is being
replenished in regions of northern Africa, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, China, and the U.S..

different and the circumstances in their poems show a lot about the difference that social class and

at the tone, narratorgender, and setting of these poems the reader can see how a single general
theme, regret over a lost lover, gets explored in very different ways.

tells the reader it s morning, so they possibly met in the early morning hours before sunrise to

times throughout: From Wynyard s Gap the livelong day, / the livelong day, / We beat afoot the
northward way (1 3). They started on a twenty mile hike to take them to: The inn that beamed
thereby (16). While traveling to these small inns they would stop in a tavern, which is the main
tone changing setting of the poem: The tavern tells the gloomy tale (73). The tavern is where
her lover kills Johnny after her cruel joke. Once everyone has either been killed or passed away she
is left to Haunting the Western Moor. (104) She is alone with no lover, no friends and no child in a

  • 2. Imagination In The Mark On The Wall, By W. B. Yeats After losing considerably in the war, people had to begin to decide for themselves what was important. Their identity had been marred by reality and the only way to fix this was to shed their old priorities and construct new ones. Among these priorities were: creativity, originality, and possibility. Imagination is simple because one can access it from anywhere. For this reason, authors utilize it often. This is evident in Virginia Woolf s, The Mark on the Wall and W. B. Yeats s, Sailing to Byzantium. Woolf s narrator claims, I can think sitting still as well as standing up which is only made possible by imagination (Woolf 2148). Similarly, Critics writing on [Yeats s] poem have perceived Byzantium as, variously, a representation of the imagination, the imaginative act, the soul, the vision, and Unity of Being (Pruitt 225). Of course this Byzantium Yeats references is only one in the mind slightly based off of memory. This corresponds with Woolf s work and how she uses memory as a beginning point and, therefore...in remembering the event the narrator is transported back to the scene so that it seems to her to be happening in the present, or happening over and over (Cyr 199). Likewise, in Sailing to Byzantium the reader is invited, to contemplate such an ideal location, projecting it over the past, present, and what is to come as if it too, is out of the reach of time because it is constantly occurring in the imagination (Tucker 68). Also using imagination, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Literary Analysis Of Kathleen Bowen s The Demon Lover What Drove Her? In The Demon Lover, Kathleen Drover is the protagonist and represents a British wife and mother who returned from the country to her war ravaged home in London hoping to retrieve some of her family s personal belongings. Mrs. Drover s story unfolds as a haunting of supernatural means driven by the ghostof her sweetheart, an un named soldier presumed to have been killed during World War I twenty five years earlier. The dark imagery of the story is craft fully controlled by Bowen and fosters a heavy sense of circumstance, anxiety, and even ambiguity, which transports the reader through nightmarish stages of suspense and ultimately horror. The tone of The Demon Loveris initially set by Bowen as Drover returns to her abandoned, gloomy, London street in anticipation of a quick gathering of personal belongings from her boarded up, delapitated former home. As a depressing back drop to an even heavier story, the war blitzed city provides the mood of eeriness, chaos, and depression. German rockets have ravaged... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drover s demise through Bowen s intense imagery paralleling history with that of a ghost tale. The vacant house, cold air, the mysterious letter whose source is un documented, a faceless lover from the past, un fulfilled promise, an empty marriage, persistent rain, and a taxi with no apparent destination come together during a war torn time to create unconventional feelings of the super natural. Even the bruise in the wallpaper assumes a damaged position and a haunting significance. The ambiguity of Bowen s ending of The Demon Lover fits perfectly as the final destination of Drover s taxi ride is uncertain, but Bowen s imagery throughout the story emphasizes the idea that through descriptive language and some horror, the forgotten past exists in Kathleen s mind to haunt the ... The Religious Beliefs Of Organisations The religious beliefs of organisations are responsible for altering management practice in various foreign civilizations, yet when these moral principles are integrated with other devices used in Western society, it can create the most influential environment that thrives on work ethic and profitability. As such cultural beliefs are predominantly not a factor in countries such as Australia, many consider that a religious organisation is far more effective in its managementpractice. The ways in which religious values can positively alter management are constantly observed in other cultures and societies. The studies of religious organisations have copious potential to provide pivotal information on ideal management practice as well as enhancing our understanding of the overall concept of management and its intangible assets. This concept has been discussed and a sociological viewpoint has been established where a religious organisation may provide a greater meaningful structure for employees to embellish and thrive; clearly promoting a motivated and hard working community. They were the exception to the overall theme of loneliness that each of the other characters felt in some way. Both characters were extremely loyal to each other , however the significance of Lennies actions meant that George had no choice but to kill Lennie Slim s character was highly valued in the novella, and the influence of his opinion is demonstrated in many cases especially in the final section when helping the reader understand how George had no choice but to kill lennie. A civil service is a great way to teach young adults responsibility and rigor. Civil service teaches students great responsibilities like tending to wounds and learning how to care for yourself, as well as others. young adults often have jobs other than just to protect our country in the civil service, they often clean, serve food, and much more. These jobs are put in place to teach these new soldiers rigor in their daily tasks that can be put in place for future jobs, therefore congress should definitely pass this law. In addition to giving some students an idea of what they would like to do for the rest of their lives, civil service opens... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often learning trial and error, most young adults haven t learned how to take care of themselves. Not to mention the fact that being in the civil service is highly dangerous. Some families would be very upset if their child died in the service because they were forced to go there. The population would significantly decrease if this law was issued because millions of heroes die every year being in the civil service, and as of now only males are on a list to go. Some student just aren t in good enough physical shape to join the civil service and may require more effort/time to be in peak physical shape instructors would like. This would waste valuable time in training than just letting those students go off to college. Because some students would like to be in fields requiring many years of school and don t have time to serve in the civil service, only certain young adults should be required to the civil service for a year. So all together, I think Congress should pass this law, but put stricter limitations on who has to go into the civil service for a year because students haven t learned valuable life skills and some have important careers to attend ... • 14. The American Election Process Is Good For The Country The American Election Process Ever since the early beginning of America standing as its own individual free country, we annually elect a new leader to run our country for a 4 year term. Every new time to elect a new president, Americans are pressured to go out and vote for their leader that they want to run the country. Somewhere through the many years and elections, people have begun to outcry that the elections are not fair or biased and has raised the question if the way elections are run, is good for the country. The United Stateselectionprocess is good as it fairly elects a new president every four years, it provokes people into exercising their basic right to vote, and it helps always elect a new candidate over having a single leader for life. Throughout the history of America, a lot of things have happened for Americans to be able to elect their leader. The Revolutionary war was the pinnacle point as it was the war that separated America from the control of Great Britain and is what landed America as a country of its own and not to be controlled by any other country. But a downside to this war was that even though it let people elect their leaders, it only let a specific person to elect a leader, specifically white male land owners. Next came the civil war which was fought to free African American slaves from the hand of the Confederate States of America, which wanted to succeed from the north and keep slavery as they deemed it was their right to own slaves, and ... Tribal people are defined as those who have followed ways of life for many generations that are largely self sufficient, and are clearly different from the mainstream and dominant society . A leader is a person who is willing to sacrifice their lives and their reputations to assist someone or something that needs help. One person took the less fortunate and the sick under her wing. She created and established hope for those who had lost all hope. Mother Teresadedicated her life to all those who needed help and sanctuary. She established many places and groups that focused on helping the poor, she was selfless through devastation, and she made a name for not only herself, but for the poor and sick as well. Mother Teresa was born in SkopjeOttoman Empire, today known as Macedonia, on August 26, 1910 (McCarthy). Her mother showed her the kindness of her heart and gave her a new outlook on life. After realizing what life truly meant she became a nun at the age of eighteen giving her life up to God (Mother Teresa Timeline). Soon after becoming a nun she made several personal vows. One of these vows was to obey everything God had told her to, no matter the extremity (McCarthy). One day Mother Teresa said she heard God. God had told Mother Teresa she needed to serve only the poorest of his creatures, the destitute, the dying, and the lonely for the rest of her life (Parks). Once she said her goodbyes, and packed her things she went on her way. Mother Teresa decided to go to the streets of India to serve those in need. Many research has shown similar results with the similar experiments. It is true that monolinguals do know more words in a languagebut when it comes to memory, bilinguals have better memory. • 35. Design Proposal Report For Fatigue Monitoring System Design Proposal Report for Fatigue Monitoring System (FMS) By Alvin Kuan, Sarah Fink, Shian Su and Suliman Altaleb 1. Abstract This paper presents some background briefing, implantation, ethical responsibility, and action plan of FMS design plan. FMS is a model purposely designed to detect and measure fatigue variables, i.e., blinking rate, yawning rate and head tilt for fatigue predictions. In addition, FMS will establish a crude estimate of fatigue and warns the user if a threshold has been exceeded. This FMS will provide real time measurements of fatigue which, if integrated with good risk management practice, will result in reduced and controlled recurrence of serious safety incidents. The focus the project is to understand and appreciate the essential components in designing successful and commercially viable device. This system employs non invasive electrodes which are positioned specifically for each of blinking and yawning tests in order to attain electrocardiogram signals accordingly. FMS is also able to detect head nodding patterns via a gyro sensor specifically located to monitor axial coordination of head. 1. Background Fatigue results in an impaired decision making and judgment, slowed reflexes and responses, absent mindedness, memory lapses etc. Fatigue is often a root cause of major accidents. Fatigue is believed to be the reason of more than 20% of road fatalities in Victoria Fatigue related accidents are more likely to result in fatalities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But how does what President Obama was trying to inforce take a stance when in Texas, gun owners were taking full advantage of the new right of open carry. • 43. A Streetcar Named Desire By Susan Glaspell In any great story, one can find a unique trait that sets it apart from all others. Susan Glaspell s Trifles would be incomplete if not for the lonely farmhouse. Romeo and Juliet is nothing if not a tragedy about star crossed lovers. The tales that we now know as classics received that label because something about them was just too great to ignore. Although many dramas and stories often find strengths in their story or setting, A Streetcar Named Desire demonstrates the significance of powerful characters. Specifically, Blanche DuBoisis arguably the most essential character to the plot. Raised on a plantation among the wealthy, she is a ringing example of sophistication and femininity. The way she speaks and acts portray this, as her words are more often than not poetic in nature and almost too flawless. She s also able to use her words to manipulate others, especially when it comes to dodging questions about her mysterious past. All in all, Blanche is a truly well crafted character because of how unique and unalike she is to any of the other characters in A Streetcar Named Desire, and most of it can be attributed to her distinctive voice. Blanche s character is, as a whole, excessively poetic and complicated in the way she talks. Her pattern of speechserves to reflect her comfortable upbringing and status as a more refined and elite citizen when compared to the other characters of the play. Fascism as an ideology is opposed to much of what many perceive as belonging in a modern society such as its anti Semitic, anti race and anti rationalist beliefs. In contrast, fascism is also accustomed to having many beliefs that it is positive towards such as Ultranationalism, Expansionism and Corporatism. Therefore, Fascism does have an anti character as it is defined by what it opposes. Fascism is anti rationalist and counter enlightenment which was a very late nineteenth century policy. The enlightenment was based on the ideas of universal reason, natural goodness and progress. It was committed to liberating humans from the darkness of irrationalism and superstition. Friedrich Nietzsche proposed that humans are motivated by powerful emotions rather than their rational mind which he called will to power . Many Fascists instead believe in vitalism where organisms gain characterises from instinct rather than reason. Anti rationalism has influenced fascism in many ways. Firstly, it gave fascism anti intellectualism reflected in its tendency to go straight into action. For example, Mussolini s favourite slogans included action not talk and inactivity is death . • 54. Music Education And Its Effect On Education The German philosopher, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, referred to a life without music as a mistake ( Don t ). Unfortunately, many children never get the opportunity to discover the fulfillment that music can bring to their lives. They are denied this chance by an unfair educational system. Music education is beneficial to the student throughout his entire life, thus it should not be cast aside and neglected as it often is in the public school system today, but instead schools should do just the opposite; treat musiceducation as a priority. The evidence makes clear the benefits of playing a musical instrument on students abilities to perform academically. For example, the Harmony Project is an after school program that provides music lessons to children from underprivileged neighborhoods of California. Ninety three percent of seniors in the program have graduated from high school in four years and gone on to college. This is truly incredible when one considers that the communities where the program takes place have dropout rates of over 50% (Turner). One explanation for this significant improvement is the direct impact playing music has on the students brains. A study conducted by Nina Kraus, a neurobiologist at Northwestern University, demonstrates this impact. • 57. The Major Causes And Effects Of Overcrowding In Cities Overcrowding in cities Many countries of the world are currently experiencing problems caused by rapidly growing populations in urban areas, and both governments and individuals have a duty to find ways to overcome these problems. Overpopulation can lead to overcrowding and poor quality housing in many large cities. Poorly heated or damp housing could cause significant health problems, resulting in illness, such as bronchitis or pneumonia. Another serious consequence of overcrowding is a rising crime rate as poor living conditions may lead young people in particular to take desperate measures and turn to crime or drugs. There are some effects of overcrowding. The first one is loss of fresh water. According to UN Water, 75% of planet Earthis covered in water. 97.5% of that is ocean and 2.5% is freshwater. 70% of freshwater is divided into glaciers and ice caps and the remaining 30% into land surface water, such as rivers, lakes, ponds and groundwater. Most of the freshwater resources are either unreachable or too polluted, leaving less than 1% of the world s freshwater, or about 0.003% of all water on Earth, readily accessible for direct human use. According to the Global Outlook for Water Resources to the Year 2025, it is estimated that by 2025, more than half of the world population will be facing water based vulnerability and human demand for water will account for 70% of all available freshwater. Furthermore, a report in November 2009 by the 2030 Water Resources Group suggests that by 2030, in some developing Saigal 2 regions in the world, water demand will exceed supply by 50% and a report jointly produced by more than two dozen U.N. bodies states that, By 2030, nearly half of the world s people will be living in areas of acute water shortage. The planet is in the midst of what the United Nations is calling a Global Water Crisis. Freshwater is the most fundamental finite resource with no substitutes for most uses, yet we are consuming fresh water at least 10 times faster than it is being replenished in regions of northern Africa, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, China, and the U.S.. According to the World Resources Institute, Freshwater ecosystems the diverse communities found in lakes, rivers, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Thomas Hardy s A Trampwoman s Tragedy and Lord Byron s... Lord Byron s When we two parted and Thomas Hardy s A Trampwoman s Tragedy have in common a lover s regret for love lost. However, the main narrators in these poems are very different and the circumstances in their poems show a lot about the difference that social class and gender make in the lovelives seen in When we two parted and A Trampwoman s Tragedy . Looking at the tone, narratorgender, and setting of these poems the reader can see how a single general theme, regret over a lost lover, gets explored in very different ways. Both poems are in first person narration which helps lend a higher degree of credibility to the description of the intimate details and emotions. While the poems are in first person, the tone ... She loves him but has not married him. Setting plays an important role in both poems. Setting in these poems helps the reader picture and dramatize the events happening. Lord Byron s poem doesn t give a specific location but does tell us at what time of day it is: The dew of the morning / Sunk chill on my brow (9 10). It tells the reader it s morning, so they possibly met in the early morning hours before sunrise to not be seen, and the dew suggests that it s spring time. Hardy s poem changes settings several times throughout: From Wynyard s Gap the livelong day, / the livelong day, / We beat afoot the northward way (1 3). They started on a twenty mile hike to take them to: The inn that beamed thereby (16). While traveling to these small inns they would stop in a tavern, which is the main tone changing setting of the poem: The tavern tells the gloomy tale (73). The tavern is where her lover kills Johnny after her cruel joke. Once everyone has either been killed or passed away she is left to Haunting the Western Moor. (104) She is alone with no lover, no friends and no child in a mossy graveyard like field to live out the rest of her days.
