Labor Vs. Capital During The Late 1800s
The ensuing conflict, between labor vs. capital, during the late 1800s initiated a struggle of power
in the workforce between the rich industrialists (or corporate leaders) and the middle class/lower
class workers. The Capitalists had intervened with the protests orchestrated by the workers, ensuring
that the power remains with them. The strategies of the industrialists and the unique ways of
protesting from the workers, contributes to spur a vigorous argument between the employers and
their employees. The workers tried their best to ameliorate their working conditions by forming
numerous unions, trying to fix currency (gold to paper) to economically help themselves, refusing
to go to work, resorting to violence and non violence, etc. However, the Corporate leaders kept an
upper hand and dissolved the workers ambitions by hiring scabs, creating a strong relationship with
the military (Pullman strike), controlling and fixing policies at work, hiring immigrants for cheap
labor, etc. Throughout the late 1800s, the corporate leaders have been able to successfully prevent
workers who had resorted to: forming unions, protests (ex. Pullman strike and Homestead strike),
violence (ex. Haymarket Sq. Riot), etc., from achieving a radical solution to the workers issues with
the management by using several different strategies including but not limited to: hiring scabs
/immigrants in the Homestead strike, using government support in the Pullman strike and keeping
the power on their side

Daedalus And Icarus
The Role of Nature:
Icarus and Daedalus both used nature in the passage and it connected with the poem to show how
nature has roles in myths and in poems. In both the passage and the poem nature has a role in both
of them. I will be telling you nature had a role in the passage and the poem. In the passage Icarus
and Daedalus was based all around nature. They were being held captive because of a king.
Daedalus had saw seagulls flying thought that he could transform that for him and his son because
the only thing that was living and had true feeling was the birds/seagulls flying around. So he did
so and took some feathers and wax and then made wings for him and his younger son Icarus. Even
in paragraph 5 it says Remember, says the father

What Is The History Of Ice Hockey
Hockey
Some people depict that ice hockey as having come from lacrosse and field games played by Nova
Scotia s Micmac Indians. Others believe that hockey evolved in northern Europe. But it is likely
that it came from early games played with stick and ball in about the mid 1800s. Ice hockey as we
know it was most defiantly a product of Canada in the 1850s ( History of Ice Hockey ).
The first organize and logged game of hockey was played in Victoria rink in MontrГ©al, Canada.
The first rules where written by a group of students at McGill University also in MontrГ©al. They
set it up to use a puck instead of a ball. It took a couple of years ice hockey spread all over Canada.
But before long it came to the United States. In 1893 hockey began to

Essay on Mind and Matrix
Epistemology is the nature of knowledge. Knowledge is important when considering what is
reality and what is deception. The movie The Matrix displays a social deception in which Neo,
the main character, is caught between what he thought was once reality and a whole new world
that controls everything he thought was real. If I were Neo, I would not truly be able to know
that I was in the matrix. However, it is rational to believe that I am in the matrix and will
eventually enter back into my reality later. The proof that that I can know that I am in the matrix
and that I will return to reality comes from the responses of foundationalism, idealism, and
pallibalism. To begin, foundationalism is the essence of what we are certain of.... Show more

In the same way, I began by taking everything that was doubtful and throwing it out, like sand ...
(Replies 7, AT 7:537) (Lex, Newman) . This explains how foundationalism works; you must
remove all of your doubt to advance to the foundationtion of which you are sure of. This is called
the method of doubt. Once you know what you are sure of, you can build up knowledge from
there. Many wonder how we can wonder we are not dreaming. Some agree that you cannot feel
pain in a dream, but others say they have. The argument that dreams are not related to memory is
strong because most people do not remember their dreams. Descartes explains that in a dream
you can feel as if you are using all of your senses, but they seem to be more vague than when
awake. Descartes struggles with the dream issue until he comes upon his conclusion. I now
notice that there is a vast difference between [being asleep and being awake], in that dreams are
never linked by memory with all the other actions of life as waking experiences are. ... But when
I distinctly see where things come from and where and when they come to me, and when I can
connect my perceptions of them with the whole of the rest of my life without a break, then I am
quite certain that when I encounter these things I am not asleep but awake. (Med. 6, AT 7:89 90)

Hair loss is more common than people think. Alopecia is a generic term that means losing hair and
there are a few different, specific types of alopecia. Alopecia Totalis is one type.
What is Alopecia Totalis?
Alopecia Totalis (AT) is an auto immune disorder. This condition results in a total loss of hair
from the scalp only. There are two types of AT, the first being a sudden, complete loss of all hair
on the head and the second being slower, starting as Alopecia Areata (a patchy loss of hair) then
advancing to total loss of scalp hair. AT can also affect the nails, yielding a brittle, pitted, or ridged
look.

Differences Between Bible Myths And Greek Myths
Last week, I have read the GREEK MYTHS and I found there are some similarities and differences
between Bible and Greek myths, even sometimes are similar with Chinese myths.
After reading the Bible and Greek myths, you will find the biggest difference is that the number of
gods is totally different. In the Bible, they only believe in one God faithfully; however, people
believe in twelve big Gods and other small Gods in the GREEK MYTHS, such as Zeus, Athene,
Poseidon, Apollo, Cupid and so on. The reason why they have such a difference is that God in the
Bible can do everything and he controlled all the rights by himself, but in Greek all the Gods had
different abilities and do their best in their fields. Another reason is that God s image can

In the song, I Know the Future by Lil Wayne the lyrics Like a circle of knives I got the sharpest

a while to wrap my head around this clever metaphor. Lil Wayne s lyrics aren t always just
metaphoric, in some songs Wayne gets deep and talks about subjects that are going on in the
world. In 2013, Lil Wayne released a song by the name of God Bless Amerika(Genius.com).
Throughout the song, he s telling the world about the police brutality, overpopulated jails, and
telling America to get back to its Christian ways. Lil Wayne s versatile lyrics are the essential

Joyce Mri As A Cultural Icon Summary
Joyce approaches MRI as a Cultural Icon. As a cultural icon, the MRI symbolizes both the
progress of medicine as well as a powerful technology to reveal details about one s medical
condition. Joyce proposes that the MRI is not only a icon which is entwined in our life but is
also a great illustration of many cultural movements. The chapter starts with the a story to
demonstrate how a person s life may revolve around the MRI. Getting an MRI is like opening the
box of Schrodinger s cat. Without an MRI you can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a
problem. But after the MRI you have visual proof of the problem. Joyce focuses on how this visual
proof and confirmation has multiple cultural implications. Most of the points she raises relate...

I found this very interesting as It connects to the idea of Trust, but verify , a Russian phrase
commonly used by Reagan during talks with Russia. When we have a cancer or sickness the
stakes are high and so are the emotions. Denial of a condition can easily be refuted with proof
that the patient can understand. Although MRI s are great at helping doctors, patients also
benefit from seeing visual proof of a condition. Joyce writes about our growing trend towards
visualization and how everyone is accustomed to cameras and computers. Even in the operating
room visual technology is used as both surveillance and an aid. In addition to helping doctor,
Joyce also brings up the point on how an MRI illuminates a doctor s fear of litigation. Lawsuits
are common to medical practices and the fear of litigation is always present. The cultural trend
of scepticism and the need to cover your ass makes the use of MRIs much more common. With
an image, a doctor could argue how their interpretation was right or wrong and it is easier than
explaining what he/she observed. She also briefly brought up a point on how MRIs can symbolize
inequality as getting a MRI shows that you have access to the best of

Weaknesses Of The Articles Of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were placed as a form of temporary government. However, the
Articles did not address the many problems the United States was having and going to have at the
time. Therefore The Articles of Confederation were one of the weakest forms of functioning
governments.
After many years of fighting for independence, America needed a break from any type of
government. Well you see in order to have a functioning country you need some type of
functioning government. When the idea of a government came up many were fearful of what
could happen. What if they resorted back to the old ways? What if all those years of fighting for
independence were for nothing? Congress had to start somewhere. And in November 1777, The
Articles of Confederation were accepted. The Continental Congress adopted the Articles of
Confederation, the first constitution of the United States, on November 5, 1777. The main purpose
of the Articles of Confederation was to have something to hold on to while America set up.
However there Articles did not deal very well with state things. Such as dealing with foreign
relations and economic conditions. When accepted the Articles were only to work under certain
conditions. Conditions being those such as not interfering with other states and their commerce. Or
states that had not paid if war debts. Out of fear of becoming their enemy they thought that it was a
good idea. Congress created many departments and one of them was the Department of

Three Cups Of Tea By Greg Mortenson Essay
The astonishing, uplifting story of a real life Indiana Jones and his remarkable humanitarian
campaign in the Taliban s backyard is the introduction given to Greg Mortenson s readers before
even opening his book, Three Cups of Tea. This phrase slapped on the back cover of the millions
of books sold in America prepares readers to not only buy into Greg Mortenson s heroic story but
even support his cause. One song we hear too often is the one in which Africa serves as a
backdrop for white fantasies of conquest and heroism (Cole). The problem with Mr. Mortenson s
song is that it provides a single view of the religion of Islam. At first glance of Mortenson s book,

Mortenson also shows the underdevelopment of the Muslims through the women of Pakistan.
The women in the book are depicted as helpless and shameful. For example, when Greg was
captured by the violent Taliban he pleaded for release from the savage men by lying about his
wife giving birth to a son soon (Mortenson, 170). Mortenson essentializes the Muslim men as
underdeveloped and violent by portraying that they value males over females, believing they
would only let him go because he was having a son. The worst part about this example from
Mortenson was that it was a myth, according to John Krakauer s critique Three Cups of Deceit.
Greg staged the Another instance of Mortenson s essentialism was when Mortenson nursed
Rhokia back to health. The women and baby were shown as weak and no one but Greg, of
course, was able to help them. Mortenson shows the primitive nature of the people by describing
their helplessness. Mortenson said, For a Balti to let a foreign man, an infidel, have that kind of
intimate contact with your wife took an incredible leap of faith (Mortenson, 179). He once again
mentions the underdevelopment and male dominance by asking Rhokia s husband if it was okay to
remove her placenta, instead of directly asking her. Mortenson essentializes the women of Pakistan
and portrays them as if they are inferior to men according to

The next stage is the feedback system. The essential part of the performance feedback process is
the discussion between the manager and the employee. Prior to completing the RFF (Rank

performance feedback on the employee from a variety of sources.
The manager will choose to share this form with the employee in order to gather his/her input

levels of the management team, the manager will then discuss the RFF with the employee.
During the discussion, the manager and employee will both discuss the employee s

The Importance Of Ethnic Conflict In Tangerines
Tangerines is a movie about finding humanity and respect during a time of ethnic conflict. Ethnicity
is the major focus of this film, with the smaller scale hatred and resentment between the Chechen
Ahmed and Georgian Nika set in the context of the war between Georgia and Abkhazia for
Abkhazian separation. The Estonian Ivo helps Ahmed and Nika set aside their ethnic differences to
realize that they are both human beings. This film shows the Soviet Legacies on ethnic conflict
within the current Post Soviet space. Tangerines opens on Ivo, an Estonian living in Abkhazia is
one of two men left in his village. Most Estonians returned to Estonia after the war in Abkhazia
broke out. Abkhazia is a region in Georgia that wanted to rejoin Russia. A war broke out with
Georgians on one side, Abkhazians, and Russians on the other. In the movie, Ivo makes wooden
crates to put tangerines in that his neighbor Margus picks. One day, two Chechen mercenaries,
hired by the Russian government, drop by looking for food. They go on their way but soon get into
a skirmish with three Georgians in front of Margus house. One Chechen, Ahmed, and one Georgian,
Nika, survive the firefight, and Ivo brings them both to his home to heal. Both the Chechen and the
Georgian hate each other and want to kill one another, but Ivo makes them promise not to kill one
another inside his house. Over time, they begin to respect each other. At one point, an Abkhazian

The Albatross
The particular meaning of death is evidently endless, and with the limitless range of possibilities
that follow along with it comes with no amazement that the death scenes in literature sometimes
create the most significant themes in their relevant stories. One similar case to this would be the
death of the Albatross, in the poem The Rime of the Ancient Marinerby Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
In the poem, the Mariner carelessly shots the Albatross, guiding him and his men, without giving
any good reasons why he did so. This can be related to religion because the Albatross represents
Christ because he was our one and only option at achieving eternal life in Heaven, even after man
continued to torture him. The Albatross was the crew s one and only chance at salvation from the
icy region, but the Mariner destroys all their chances after killing the bird. His impression then
would reveal his carelessness for nature, a moment that would illuminate the logical purpose of the
poem clearer now than it did before.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cursing the mariner and his crew. After all his crew members have died is when he starts to
appear sorrowful and begins to pray not for help, but for God to take him also. At this point of the
story, the fate of the mariner lies in the hands of the spirits. Miraculously, he makes it back to his

Persuasive Essay On Bus Safety
The school bus safety in this time has gotten better and worse, but the one thing you don t see in
school buses too often are the seatbelts. I believe that seat belts are needed in buses.
The first patented seat belt was created by American Edward J. Claghorn on February 10, 1885
in order to keep tourists safe in taxis in New York City. This idea slowly became more popular in
the manufacturing of other vehicles. Competing drivers were the first to be required to wear a seat
belt. The real breakthrough with modern seat belts came in 1958 when Swedish engineer Nils
Bohlin was hired by Volvo and he designed the seat belts we know today through a three point seat
belt that better protects the driver and passenger in an accident. The three point design was created
to help secure both the upper and lower body in an accident.
Since 1966, vehicles in America were required to have seat belts in their cars. By 1975, most
first world countries had a seat belt requirement in their cars. Once the three point seat belt
became more common in cars, laws soon followed afterwards. By 1970, the world s first seat
belt law was created in Victoria, Australia, which required passengers to wear their seat belts at all
times. In the U.S., seat belt laws came around the time of the creation of The National Traffic and
Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966.

The Role Of Female Circumcision In Western Societies
In Western Societies, such as the United States, women have become more independent both
politically and financially. Yet, in third world countries and patriarchal societies, it is not
uncommon to see women hold subservient roles to men. Many women still follow traditions of the
past within their cultures, such as, female genital mutilation (FGM) or female circumcision a
painful surgical procedure to remove part of the clitoris (or clitoral hood) to suppress female
sexuality. Female circumcision is banned in the United States, as the World Health Organization
considers the procedure a violation of human rightsfor women and girls ( FGM in the United
States ). In a recent case, two physicians and the wife of one of the doctors have been criminally...

At first glance, the Malbim would seem to object to the government s ban to FGM. The Malbim
argues that individual freedoms are greater than societal needs. Each individual must pursue his
/her goal of fulfilling the divine purpose, the elevation of the physical through the spiritual. This
can be done through the pursuit of self development and self perfection via Torah observance. If
this is the case, society, according to the Malbim, should help individuals reach moral perfection
by giving support and freedom to individuals. The role of government is to create an environment
free from impediments as much as possible and give the individual the maximum opportunity to
pursue good (Sicker and TanenbaumCHAT 244 245). However, in this case, the doctors are not
reaching moral perfection, as they are violating the Jewish law of bodily mutilation. From a
Jewish perspective, these doctors are straying from self perfection, as this procedure is impeding
on the divine purpose. The Malbim would argue that the government should bring these doctors a
step closer to moral perfection, by banning the practice of FGM on girls. This way, the government
would be fulfilling its role of creating an environment where individuals would be able to reach
moral perfection on their own. Although the government should interfere as little as possible, in the

Selling prescription drugs online has also become extremely popular within a short period of time.
It is so popular in fact; the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has just set up a new board
that certifies online pharmacies and calls them Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites. To
date, there are only four such sites. They are: CVS.com, Drugstore.com, MerckMedco.com, and

The European Witch Hunts In The Inquisition And The Hammer...
Out in Europe, there are some witch hunts going on. These hunts are known as The European
Witch Hunts. This all started back in the 13th century, when two men, Jakob Sprenger and Heinrich
Kramer wrote a book that was called Malleus Maleficarum, that is, The Hammer of Witches. This
book caused the worries of witchcraftand got witch hunts started. In the article The Inquisition
and The Hammer of Witches the text says Both Catholics and Protestants accepted it as the
authority on witchcraft. The work contained imaginative stories about witches based on
folklore, presented theological and legal arguments against witchcraft, and provided guidelines
on how to identify and eliminate witches. The Hammer of Witches has been described as the
most vicious and . . . the most damaging book in all of world literature. (The European Witch
Hunts) This book caused huge witch hunts to break out in Europe. To identify people that were
accused of being a witch the article says Some suspects were bound and put into a blessed body
of cold water. If they sank, they were deemed innocent and pulled out. If they floated, they were
considered witches and executed on the spot or handed over to be tried. Other suspects were
weighed because it was thought that witches had little or no weight. they also would check
suspects for a devils marking If the markings didn t hurt or bleed when they were pricked, they
were considered marks from satan. These were just a couple ways that people

Assessing Renewable Energy Projects Essay
As aforediscussed, many authors agree that capital utilization play an important role in defining
business viability; however there is a lack of assessment methodologies for making such assessment
possible on the context of assessing Renewable Energy Projects. In view of that, and in order to
tackle this difficulty, a generic assessment model has been presented on Chapter three Within the
context of studying Renewable EnergyProjects, this section provides an application of the generic
model as to provide a glance on the insights, or gains in knowledge that can be achieved from the
exploration of capital.

4.1.1 Brazil
With its 8.5 million square kilometers and over 190 million inhabitants, Brazil is not only the
fifth largest territory, comprising nearly half of South America, but also the world s fourth
largest democracy (CIA, 2008). This tropical country is a major world player comprising one of
the most modern and sophisticated industrial economies of the developing world the tenth
largest at market exchange rates. Despite ranking as the world s 15th largest oil producer,
advancing to become oil independent due to recent massive discoveries in oil resources along its
coast (see Mello, 2008), few countries with reasonably good levels of industrialization and oil
reserves have an energy matrix with such an important share of renewable energy sources (as
Brazil) (Walter, Dolzan, E. Piacente, 2006). Brazil is considered to have the world s

This is an example of hegemonic feminine ideology because they put out Wendy s mom to be
the typical housewife that agrees with whatever her husband says. This shows how women are
supposed to be submissive and do as they are told by their husbands. But it also shows how
women are suppose be more silent than men and are not meant to speak out what they think and
how women are never in charge. They do this to show that the women always have to support
the men in whatever they are doing. They always have to be one s cheering for them. Society
has the idea of women always having to be the supporters of whatever their men are doing they
have to be right there along them supporting them and cheering them on because according to
society that is the women s job. Later on in the movie Wendy tells Peter Pan it is her last day in

Alexander Petrunkevitch s The Spider And The Wasp
Alexander Petrunkevitch wrote The Spider and the Wasp to explain how the wasp uses the
tarantula to provide a life for the larva, baby wasp. Most tarantulas live in the tropics, but there are
a few in the southern U.S. living in deep burrows. The spider s bite is dangerous to the small
mammals and insects, but a human will be able to hold the tarantula in their hand, if one is gentle.
The males wander at night to find a female to mate with. The male tarantula dies after mating, while
the female lives much longer, and continues to mate. The female spidercan continue mating. The
female tarantula can lay two hundred to four hundred eggs at a time. Tarantula s eyesight and
hearing is poor, but the tarantulas has an excellent sense of touch.

Triumph of the Will and Jud Suess as Nazi Propaganda...
Triumph of the Will and Jud Suess as Nazi Propaganda
It has been readily admitted that propaganda has little to do with the truth. Why then is it so
convincing? Why does the demagogic appeal of propaganda triumph over reason and truth? The
answer is that the power of our emotions and our prejudices clouds our reasoning; and even more,
propaganda uses our emotions against us by manipulating them. We are shown what the
propagandist wants us to see; we feel what the propagandist wants us to feel. And in that way,
propaganda becomes a tool for exploiting the masses, for shaping public opinion and turning
ordinary people into supporters, participants and onlookers of genocide. Both Triumph of the Will
and Jud Suess function ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In addition to manipulating people s sense of nationalism, the film seeks to manipulate people s
religious beliefs; it uses common religious themes and images to imply an endorsement of Hitler
and the Nazis. In the opening scene, Hitler s plane flies above the clouds, high up in the sky; and
then descends to earth to land. Here Hitler is portrayed as coming from Heaven; he alone can
restore order to the chaos, he alone can save Germany and her people. The Nazi motto One People,
One Empire, One Leader is a perversion of the Holy Trinity, encompassed and personified in Hitler.
The release date of Jud Suess (Jud SГјГџ, Veit Harlan, Germany, 1940)2 reflects the goals of the
film.In 1940, Hitler had already legitimized his power, and now needed to accrue overwhelming
public support for his one sided crusade against European Jewry. The makers of the film decided
they could get overwhelming public support by showing a historical film , which would serve as

Shirley Jackson s story, The Lottery is a horror story that starts off with a friendly atmosphere, and
hints suspense to a brutal ending. We have withheld information in our society; The Lottery does

theme from the story is fairness. From the story, we can relate to fairness and use of scapegoat in
our society. The author used satire, so we the readers are persuaded to change for the good. At the

Cecil B. Demille s The Sign Of The Cross
Cecil B. DeMille s The Sign of The Cross (1932) is not a film that can be labeled with a pro
Christian or anti Christian message. DeMille does an great job of presenting the romans and
Christians in a realistic manner for the time that movie is set in. Rather than place Christians and
Christianity on a pedestal of holiness, DeMille s depiction of the early Christians shows the
audience how they were persecuted by the Romans under the command of the Emperor Nero. The
filmbegins with Nero standing over the burning city of Rome yelling, Burn, Rome, Burn! Rumor
spread that Nero himself set Rome ablaze for his own amusement. To take the blame off himself,
he merely declared that it was the Christians who were responsible for the destruction that rome
was undergoing. The emperor, being the god like figure that he was, had his subjects convinced
that the Christians were responsible for the Great Fire. This is certainly a contrast to the way
Christians appear in films today. Today, Christianity

The Renaissance Er The Era Of The Individual
The Renaissance period started in the 14th century and later ended in the 16th century. Right after
the Gothic era ended the Renaissance period was born. Additionally, people believe that the Gothic
era contained artwork that later evolved in the Renaissance time period. For instance, Gothic art had
a naturalistic representation and so did Renaissanceart. However, it was more obvious in the
Renaissance art. During this time period there was sparks of interest in the sciences and arts.
Before many people had forgot about them or either had no interest in them. The last time those
two subjects were at a high note was before the middle ages. This revival of sciences and arts
took place during the fifteenth century and is known as the Renaissance. The word Renaissance
is French and means rebirth , which perfectly describes what happened to the arts and sciences.
Ultimately, the Renaissance era was the era of the individual. Renaissance art included human
beings and was a change in the art world. The last time human beings were being represented in
art was during classical antiquity. For instance, an artist named Donato Bardi created a naked life
size sculpture. He named it David and gave it contrapposto pose, which means the human figures
legs and hips are turned in the opposite direction of the shoulders and chest. Bardi was the first
artist to create a naked life size sculpture during this time period. The architecture artwork created
during this time was very accurate in

Essay on The Effects of Immigration on the United Kingdom
Migrants are defined as all those who were born outside the UK and were known as aliens or
foreigners . Kostakopoulou calls this assumption into question, arguing that aliens are by definition
outside the bounds of the community by virtue of a circular reasoning which takes for granted the
existence of bounded national communities, and that this which takes for granted the existence of
bounded national communities, and that this process of collective self definition is deeply political
and historically dated. The composition of the current UK migrant population has of course been
conditioned by immigrationpolicy over the past 50 years. Immigration has become a major debate

Honeyford made an interesting and yet controversial quotation, which was from a French
intellectual, Fannon that wrote.
It s a just reparation which will be paid to us. Nor will we acquiesce in the help for
underdeveloped countries being a program of sisters of charity. This help should be the ratification
of a double realization: the realization by the colonized peoples that it is their due, and the
realization by the capitalist powers that in fact they must pay.
Sir Jones revealed that Britain has grown complacent and that migrants should not be blamed for
the nation s unemployment as they are willing to work for low wages and possess the skills and
education that Britain no longer provide for their own workforce .His opinion was shared by the
Home Secretary s, where they stated:
I want the message to go out loud and clear that Britain will remain open for business. Our
economy will remain accessible to the best and the brightest in the world... as the Prime Minister
said entrepreneurs will be welcome.

Pros And Cons Of The Electoral College
There are some that would argue that the Electoral College should not be abolished. Williams
argued, According to 2013 census data, nine states California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois,
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, and Michigan have populations that total roughly 160 million,
slightly more than half the U.S. population. It is conceivable that just nine states could determine
the presidency in a popular vote (Williams). Consequently, without the Electoral College, nine states
can possibly determine the results of an election. Those that support the Electoral College think that
electionsshould be by state instead of a vote per person. The Electoral College can keep
unqualified candidates from winning an election and therefore, become president. Talents for low
intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in
a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the
esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be
necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United
States. It will not be too strong to say, that there will be a constant probability of seeing the station
filled by characters pre eminent for ability and virtue (Williams). He supports the idea that the
Electoral College keeps unqualified candidates from becoming the president. He also talks about
how there is a

Maasai Mara is an all year safari haven, populated with all the mammals, birds and reptiles a safari
tourist longs to see. First and foremost it is home of the The Big Five elephant, lion, leopard, rhino
and buffalo,
The most endangered among these is the Black Rhino, poached and hunted for their precious horn
which is, tragically for the rhino, believed by some people to be a powerful aphrodisiac.
The number of black rhinos has decreased dramatically in the last third of the 20th century, but due
to frequent patrols and intensified anti poaching measures, the number is on the rise again,
increasing the visitor s chances, to spot one of the approximately 50 rhinos, mainly found in the
Mara Triangle.
Elephants and buffalos are still found in plenty. Herds of more than 500 animals can be observed
stomping over the plains in their ever continuing search for food. Hippopotamus, or at least their
distinctive backs, can be frequently witnessed in the Mara River, and are often heard during the
night, when they leave their wet shelter. A little known fact about hippos is that they spend the
day in the water to protect their delicate skin which is easily burnt by the tropical sun. As yet
there are no SPF lotions for hippos! Prides of lions in different sizes can be spotted almost
everywhere and the nights vibrate with their roars.

American veterans need more government funding because they have served their country with
honor and their benefits should be commensurate with the sacrifices that they and their families
have made. This delay is a tremendous strain on those who have medical problems due to their

fighting in battle. High blood pressure can be just as troubling as Post Traumatic Stress

Rhetorical Devices Of George Savile
Throughout history, authentic sources have made kings seem like, either, tyrannical beings or
beings that have turned a country over from a depressed past. Who the citizens celebrated or
detested, but were too scared to protest because the power of the king was too overbearing to
challenge his authority. King Charles II was the king of England from 1630 to 1685, and during
his reign the citizens of England criticized him for his efforts, or lack of in his governing. Sir
George Savile, a member of Charles Privy Council, in an essay, used rhetorical devices to
portray King Charles II as an ordinary person, that gets to live the life of royalty. One strategy
that Savile used to portray Charles II s normality is by pulling ouut Charles flaws and examining
them to show general behaviors. Savile brings up the point that for a person of his social
standing, is hard not to be indulgent. Since there are no rules governing King Charles II, he does
not have to follow any. Savile gives the example, of King Charles ability to sleep around, and his
ability to use people to punish themselves. Of course these behaviors are not common by the
English citizens, but Savile is convincing the audience that since Charles II had no regulation and
the power to push his powers for self indulgency. Savile, also, brings up the point that the title of
king is just a pedestal that an average man stands upon, and that there is no reason to be envious of
the the title, king. Savile states, A prince

that you at all times remind yourself that you can take control. I am going to show you how to do
this, and it is actually as simple (*if not simpler) than putting on a pair of socks or getting ready for

One of the constant battles was his dislike of saying goodbye to those who were leaving the
house, whether it happened to be his father, his grandfather, his great grandparents, or a
randomly selected new friend who had come by for a visit. Psychologists call this clinging
behavior separation anxiety, and it can hit at almost any age from one to four years. My first
experiences with separation anxiety came from keeping the nursery at my church. I was always
startled when a child who had always loved being with me suddenly began to latch on to parents,
refusing to let them leave in any peaceful fashion. Instead, I would have to manually separate the
two and then spend the next ten minutes trying to distract and redirect the distraught toddler
toward other adventures. Sometimes I was successful; at other times, I spent the entire hour
coping with a fussy, inconsolable little one until my nerves were more frayed than the bottom
of a teenager s old jeans. From this experience, I had developed my own special box of tricks. I
began by walking the floor and calling attention to all of the pictures on the walls. I followed this
by reading a book while bouncing the child on my knee or rocking. If the screams could still be
heard through the insulated walls of my classroom, I tried singing the silliest songs I knew in an
overly loud voice. Sometimes I think this worked because the child realized that if he or she
stopped crying, I just might stop singing. If these actions failed to convince the child to cease and
desist, I plopped into the floor with the sweet darling in tow and systematically pulled the strings
and punched the buttons on every battery operated sound making toy in the vicinity. By this time,
one of us was so tired that he or she achieved the victory. I considered myself the winner if my

Culture And Drinking Culture
Going to bars, clubs, and drinking alcohol are parts of various cultures and societies, especially in
America. It is a common theme to go drinking on the weekends, such as on Fridays, Saturdays,
and Sundays. It may seem like going out to drinking, may be a waste of time and/or money to buy
expensive alcohol, party in dirty clubs and to listen to bad music. However, it is an important part
of the social lives for adults.
Going out to clubs and bars and drinking is a way to get together with groups of friends in your life
through communication, making memories, for stress relief, and sharing values and norms though
a common guide. These common values and social norms allow us to help through what is consider
appropriate behaviors in the subculture we are participating in. A subculture is known as a group
within a large culture, that has values, beliefs, and interests that vary apart from the larger culture.
This subculture can be known as the alcohol drinking culture.

Summary Of On Natural Death By Lewis Thomas
On Natural Death
In his essay On Natural Death , research pathologist, medical doctor, and biologist Lewis Thomas
attempts to console the reader about the weighty topic of death by referencing his own
observations, citing scientific facts and statistics, and using the universal fear and unknown of
eternal rest. Thomas first points to the example of the unforeseen death of an elm tree in his own
backyard. The death of an inanimate lifeform is something with which most people are familiar and
probably even comfortable. This first hand experience displays a situation in which death is quick
and free of pain. It also shows how quickly death can tranpire; in this situation, the tree appeared
to be in perfect health just a week before its sudden passing. The story of a dying mouse displays
Thomas s own sorrow at the demise of a fellow mammal and former participant in life. The reader
is naturally brought to empathize with Thomas s sentiments by his use of firsthand emotions and
experiences. Thomas even calls upon the reader to understand the feelings of the mouse itself by
describing what the experience likely felt to the mouse painless to the extent that the mouse is
inclined to shrug. Another of his observations is that of two soldiers unfortunate fatalities after
being in a mortal automobile accident. This example brings the reality of death even closer to the
reader, as this time the it is experienced by human beings not unlike the reader. This situation is
akin to that

Essay On Stress And Stress
The human body is like a car engine. It needs fuels to be powered for it to run, but instead of fuel
we need food and nutrients to keep a steady metabolism. If too many calories are consumed (being
over 3,500 calories) then those calories turn into adipose or fat. In stressful situations, a person can
become inclined to eat more than or less than recommended and this can lead to a change in their
weight; for example, the infamous freshmen fifteen. The freshmen fifteen are the common weight
gainof college freshmen that is the result of stressful events throughout the first year of school.
While not every student can become subjected to this it is a great example of the affects stress
can have on an individual. Stress and weight gain can affect any person even adolescents. Stress
can influence any individual regardless of age. In a study done (Health and Behavior in Teenagers
Study) 4,065 teens had their weight, height, and waist measured. Over five years those teens had
their waists and BMI measured and along with their perceived stress (being ranked from low to
high). Prior factors were also taken to account; age, sex, and various other factors were added to
the measurements. Every year the cohorts were observed for weight gain and it was indicated that
the individuals with moderate to high stress levels had been associated with higher BMI and waist
circumferences. (Jaarsveld, 2009) This study demonstrated that stress can affect any individual
regardless of the age.

Analysis Of A Long Walk To Water
The lost boys. That was what they were being called in America the boys who had lost their
homes and families because of the war and had wandered, lost, for weeks or months at a time
before reaching the refugee camps (91). Linda Sue Park wrote a novel based on one of these
boys called A long walk to water. Salva Dut was a boy alone in Sudan and becomes a survivor by
also becoming a leader, adapting to situations, and overcoming dangerous obstacles. Salva was a
lost boy in a big world that had many problems, but he overcomes them by helping others as a
leader (91). Salva s uncle was the leader of the group he was staying in and he shared all the food
he got to the group, but it seemed they had all forgotten that, for now Salva now had to beg for
scraps, which were given grudgingly (67). Salva was alone now because his uncle was killed in
the war, so after he died, the group did not treat him with the same respect that Salva had to his
uncle. Much later, after Salva became alone again and was left to fend for himself, Salva had
become the leader of a group of about fifteen hundred boys (80). After Salva got older the group
looked to him to lead them to the new refugee camps because the camps in Sudan were closing.
As Salva became the leader of the boys he didn t just walk with them, he helped them personally
Salva would talk to them, encourage them, coax and persuade them (81). Salva was a true leader
because he actually helped the group like his uncle by talking to them, sharing with them, and
showing them the way to get what they need, he also showed them how to adapt to situations.
Salva was one of the many who faced multiple situations in America and to overcome them he
adapted to them. Salva was in so many camps that he heard the aid workers talk and get a little
english down but after so many years in the camps, Salva could understand a little english (86).
Michael was an Irish aid worker that helped Salva a little english and teach him some letters to
memorize. Salva had gone to America because he was chosen to go now Salva s arms were piled
with new clothes. Underwear, socks, sneakers. A pair of long pants. A t shirt and a long sleeved
shirt to wear on top of it (92). Salva got into America

Hyponatremia Case Study
Choice E is the best answer. The treatment of SIADH and the need for rapid correction of
hyponatremia depend on the degree of hyponatremia, whether the patient is symptomatic, and on
whether the hyponatremia is acute ( 48 h) or chronic. The patient is experiencing severe symptoms
of hyponatremia (unresponsive, Cheyne Stokes respirations). Usage of any or a combination of
the following is indicated: 3% hypertonic saline, loop diuretic with saline, vasopressin 2 receptor
antagonists (vaptans), and water restriction. Furosemide and other loop diuretics can be used to
increase the excretion of free water. The amount of excess water that must be removed to correct
the hyponatremia can be calculated using total body water (TBW). TBW equals body

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AN ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT AND A SPECIAL
ASSESSMENT IN A MICHIGAN CONDOMINIUM ASSOCIATION
As many new condominium co owners are aware, the general operations of a condominium
association are funded through annual assessments. MCL 559.169 sets forth the requirements for
imposing assessments in a Michigan Condominium as follows:
559.169 Assessment of common expenses; contribution of co owner.
Sec. 69. (1) Except to the extent that the condominium documents provide otherwise, common
expenses associated with the maintenance, repair, renovation, restoration, or replacement of a
limited common element shall be specially assessed against the condominium unit to which that
limited common element was assigned at the time the expenses were incurred. If the limited
common element involved was assigned to more than 1 condominium unit, the expenses shall be
specially assessed against each of the condominium units equally so that the total of the special
assessments equals the total of the expenses, except to the extent that the condominium documents
provide otherwise.
(2) To the extent that the condominium documents expressly so provide, any other unusual
common expenses benefiting less than all of the condominium units, or any expenses incurred as a
result of the conduct of less than all those entitled to occupy the condominium project or by their

Hellenistic Influence On Greek Culture
With the rise of Alexander The Great begins the Hellenistic Age which is used to describe a time
which Greek culture spread to places like Egypt and Asia. Due to this Greek culture had changed
from what it was during Classical Greece as they were able to achieve much more with this new
diverse culture. The Classical Age of Greeceis known for its work in philosophy and the arts. The
work of Greek philosophers of this time such Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle cannot go unnoticed in
these contexts as their accomplishments still have lasting effects on our world today. Along with
the great work of these philosophers, came other great works in architecture and drama. Beginning
in 448 B.C. Pericles began the construction of the Acropolis,... Show more content on

Due to Alexander s great conquests into Egypt and Asia, money was plentiful for the Greeksand
new cities had to be built and beautified. This is where we first see new cities being laid out on
grids which were introduced by Hippodumus of Miletus in fifth century B.C. However this is just
one accomplishment in architecture during the Hellenistic Age. One place we see a change from
Classical Greece to Hellenistic is how architects began to move away from the balanced tension
and idealism that we saw in the fifth century B.C. With this, they moved toward the sentimental,
emotional and realistic mode of the fourth century B.C. One place where we see this is in the
marble statue called the Laocoon (see pg. 89) which was carved in Rhodes in the second century
B.C. and then later taken to

A Speech That Made History
The 20th century was an era of change in the world. Wars changed the landscape and people,
African Americans were beginning to gain some basic human rights, and women were very
slowly starting to gain equality with men. Women were now able to get jobs, but they were still
not fully in control of their own bodies. There was a lot of (was much) controversy over topics
such as pre marital sex, birth control, and abortion, and these controversies were part of what led
Margaret Sanger to give her speech about the morality of birth control in the early 1920s. Sanger
used many different techniques in her speech to make it stronger and more persuasive, and also to
make a lasting impression with the people who heard or read her speech.
The Life of Margaret Sanger
Margaret Sanger was born in 1879 into a rather large family. She was one of 18 children her
mother gave birth to, although only 11 of those 18 survived. It is said that her mother s births
took a major toll on her health and later motivated Sanger to take an interest in nursing and birth
control. In the late 19th century, Sanger studied at Claverack College and Hudson River Institute
to become a nurse. She worked as a nurse in New York for about 15 years before changing career
paths and becoming a Sex Education Pioneer. In 1912, she published her first newspaper column
entitled, What Every Girl Should Know. She

Theme Of Love In A View From The Bridge
Love is a powerful motivator that most writers will touch upon in plays and novels. Miller uses
the many kinds of love to drive the major events of the plot of A View from the Bridge, and the
different kinds intertwine as the characters change and the play develops. The play opens with a
family scene, showing the lovebetween Eddie, his wife Beatrice, and Catherine. Eddie is the
proud head of the household and is determined to keep the vow he promised [Catherine s]
mother on her death bed ; to keep Catherine safe, even though at times the others can see that
they may be too much love for the niece . This original family dynamic shows the happy life that
could have been lead, and Miller deliberately wrote this scene to let his audience see what has
been lost by the end of the play; a tragic end is only tragic if there was something to lose. This
family love is vital to the way of life that the people of Brooklyn lead, and it comes from the
strong Italian family values and the ways they shape the justice system, and in America this
form of justice mixes with the state law as the residents settle for half . It is this family love that
brings Marco to America, as he is desperately searching for a way for his family to escape the
incredible poverty back in Sicily that leaves them to eat the sunshine . Marco also brings his
brother Rodolfo, who is crazy about New York . The brothers have an incredibly strong bond, and
Marco is willing to defend his brother to the death.

Narrative Essay About The Halloween Party
In the small, quiet town of Westedge a group of four teenagers named Maya Claire, Talia
Crimson, Simon Darcy and Dean Augustus, get a special invitation from a student at their
school named Lorence Budi. Why would invite us to his Halloween party? asked Maya. The
concern was the kids thought that Lorence didn t like them, but this invitation proved them
mistaken. The invitation said, I, Lorence Budi, invite you to my special Halloween party, where
there will be unexpected surprises everywhere you look. Simon gave them all a confused look,
What does unexpected surprises mean? he asked. Dean looked at him and rolled his eyes, he
replied, Simon don t be foolish, it is just a way to get you to come and get you excited for a
spooky Halloween party. Simon shook his head to show he understood. Are we actually thinking
about going like I bet it s going to be totally lame? Talia protested. The next day was the party and
they all decided they were going to go even though Talia wouldn t stop complaining. I want to
choose the costumes! I m going to be a mummy, Dean, you re going to be a grey, terrifying
werewolf, Simon, you are going to be a vampire, and Talia, you can be a evil, wicked witch.
Maya stated. Maya was very excited for this party, she loved dressing up and hanging out with her
friends on Halloween. They then all got into their costumes and headed out to Lawrence s house.
His house was about twenty minutes away from Westedge and located on top of

Examples Of Metaphors In The White Tiger
Research Question: How does Aravind Adiga use metaphors in The White Tiger to highlight the
contrast between the different sections of Indian society?
Introduction:
Typically, we identify metaphors to be the figure of speech that draws an indirect comparison to
bring out an enhanced rhetoric effect. However, metaphors are so strongly ingrained in our
language, that all of us think, write, and even speak in metaphors every day. Ironically, the word
metaphor itself is a metaphor, as metaphor stems from a Greek word that means transfer or carry
across . In the literal sense, metaphors transfer meaning from one idea to another, typically
associating it with a word.

The only two options for people in the country is eat or get eaten up . In this jungle, which is India,
the different animals correspond the inhabitants that play a major role in the workings of the
country. The buffalo, the stork, the mongoose, and even the White Tiger are assigned these titles
primarily because of their personality which aligns sublimely with the nature stereotypically
associated with these animals.
The overall metaphor of the White Tiger represents what it is like to break out of the never
ending chaos present in the jungle like world. Balram refers to this world as The Darkness . As
he is the White Tiger , he possesses the required skills to break out of the Rooster Coop and find
order unlike the other inhabitants of the darkness.
Throughout the novel, Arvind Adiga uses a plethora of metaphors to describe the happenings of
Balram Halwai, and his activities. In addition to this, the author repeatedly uses ironic, and sarcastic
phrases to condemn the upper class Indian society, or citizens from the light . This brings out
several key themes in the novel, including

Abstract The heritage of Ancient Egypt reflects many continued and still existing habits and
traditions. Among these habits are body, hand, foot, face and hair care. The Ancient Egyptians
were particularly concerned with cleanliness and grooming. Personal cleanliness was not only a
source of good health but a sign of rank and social class. There are few scenes expressing personal
grooming in Ancient Egypt; those displaying foot care were even more rare and uncommon.
The aim of this paper is to explore the nature of the scenes expressing foot care in Ancient Egypt;
identify and describe the routines of foot care; recognize the people involved and mention the
implements used. This paper employs a descriptive and analytical methodology.
Through studying the very few scenes from various periods and sites, this study concludes that
there are only twelve scenes of foot care in Ancient Egypt from Abu Seir, Saqqara, Beni Hassan,
El Hammamiya, Thebes and Abu Simble. The findings reveal that there are three actions of foot
care, namely, foot washing, foot massage and reflexology, as well as a pedicure that is very
similar to what is practiced in modern times. There are specific people involved in foot care in
Ancient Egypt.
Key words: Foot care ancient Egypt uncommon scenes

  • 2. Labor Vs. Capital During The Late 1800s The ensuing conflict, between labor vs. capital, during the late 1800s initiated a struggle of power in the workforce between the rich industrialists (or corporate leaders) and the middle class/lower class workers. The Capitalists had intervened with the protests orchestrated by the workers, ensuring that the power remains with them. The strategies of the industrialists and the unique ways of protesting from the workers, contributes to spur a vigorous argument between the employers and their employees. The workers tried their best to ameliorate their working conditions by forming numerous unions, trying to fix currency (gold to paper) to economically help themselves, refusing to go to work, resorting to violence and non violence, etc. However, the Corporate leaders kept an upper hand and dissolved the workers ambitions by hiring scabs, creating a strong relationship with the military (Pullman strike), controlling and fixing policies at work, hiring immigrants for cheap labor, etc. Throughout the late 1800s, the corporate leaders have been able to successfully prevent workers who had resorted to: forming unions, protests (ex. Pullman strike and Homestead strike), violence (ex. Haymarket Sq. Riot), etc., from achieving a radical solution to the workers issues with the management by using several different strategies including but not limited to: hiring scabs /immigrants in the Homestead strike, using government support in the Pullman strike and keeping the power on their side ... • 3. Daedalus And Icarus The Role of Nature: Icarus and Daedalus both used nature in the passage and it connected with the poem to show how nature has roles in myths and in poems. In both the passage and the poem nature has a role in both of them. I will be telling you nature had a role in the passage and the poem. In the passage Icarus and Daedalus was based all around nature. They were being held captive because of a king. Daedalus had saw seagulls flying thought that he could transform that for him and his son because the only thing that was living and had true feeling was the birds/seagulls flying around. So he did so and took some feathers and wax and then made wings for him and his younger son Icarus. Even in paragraph 5 it says Remember, says the father ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Others believe that hockey evolved in northern Europe. But it is likely that it came from early games played with stick and ball in about the mid 1800s. Ice hockey as we know it was most defiantly a product of Canada in the 1850s ( History of Ice Hockey ). The first organize and logged game of hockey was played in Victoria rink in MontrГ©al, Canada. The first rules where written by a group of students at McGill University also in MontrГ©al. They set it up to use a puck instead of a ball. • 5. Essay on Mind and Matrix Epistemology is the nature of knowledge. Knowledge is important when considering what is reality and what is deception. The movie The Matrix displays a social deception in which Neo, the main character, is caught between what he thought was once reality and a whole new world that controls everything he thought was real. If I were Neo, I would not truly be able to know that I was in the matrix. However, it is rational to believe that I am in the matrix and will eventually enter back into my reality later. The proof that that I can know that I am in the matrix and that I will return to reality comes from the responses of foundationalism, idealism, and pallibalism. To begin, foundationalism is the essence of what we are certain of.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the same way, I began by taking everything that was doubtful and throwing it out, like sand ... (Replies 7, AT 7:537) (Lex, Newman) . This explains how foundationalism works; you must remove all of your doubt to advance to the foundationtion of which you are sure of. This is called the method of doubt. Once you know what you are sure of, you can build up knowledge from there. Many wonder how we can wonder we are not dreaming. Some agree that you cannot feel pain in a dream, but others say they have. The argument that dreams are not related to memory is strong because most people do not remember their dreams. Descartes explains that in a dream you can feel as if you are using all of your senses, but they seem to be more vague than when awake. Descartes struggles with the dream issue until he comes upon his conclusion. I now notice that there is a vast difference between [being asleep and being awake], in that dreams are never linked by memory with all the other actions of life as waking experiences are. ... But when I distinctly see where things come from and where and when they come to me, and when I can connect my perceptions of them with the whole of the rest of my life without a break, then I am quite certain that when I encounter these things I am not asleep but awake. (Med. 6, AT 7:89 90) (Lex, Newman) This dream argument attributes to how we can know anything. For Neo s sake it helps him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Differences Between Bible Myths And Greek Myths Last week, I have read the GREEK MYTHS and I found there are some similarities and differences between Bible and Greek myths, even sometimes are similar with Chinese myths. After reading the Bible and Greek myths, you will find the biggest difference is that the number of gods is totally different. In the Bible, they only believe in one God faithfully; however, people believe in twelve big Gods and other small Gods in the GREEK MYTHS, such as Zeus, Athene, Poseidon, Apollo, Cupid and so on. The reason why they have such a difference is that God in the Bible can do everything and he controlled all the rights by himself, but in Greek all the Gods had different abilities and do their best in their fields. Another reason is that God s image can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Joyce Mri As A Cultural Icon Summary Joyce approaches MRI as a Cultural Icon. As a cultural icon, the MRI symbolizes both the progress of medicine as well as a powerful technology to reveal details about one s medical condition. Joyce proposes that the MRI is not only a icon which is entwined in our life but is also a great illustration of many cultural movements. The chapter starts with the a story to demonstrate how a person s life may revolve around the MRI. Getting an MRI is like opening the box of Schrodinger s cat. Without an MRI you can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a problem. But after the MRI you have visual proof of the problem. When we have a cancer or sickness the stakes are high and so are the emotions. Denial of a condition can easily be refuted with proof that the patient can understand. Although MRI s are great at helping doctors, patients also benefit from seeing visual proof of a condition. Joyce writes about our growing trend towards visualization and how everyone is accustomed to cameras and computers. Even in the operating room visual technology is used as both surveillance and an aid. In addition to helping doctor, Joyce also brings up the point on how an MRI illuminates a doctor s fear of litigation. Lawsuits are common to medical practices and the fear of litigation is always present. The cultural trend of scepticism and the need to cover your ass makes the use of MRIs much more common. With an image, a doctor could argue how their interpretation was right or wrong and it is easier than explaining what he/she observed. She also briefly brought up a point on how MRIs can symbolize inequality as getting a MRI shows that you have access to the best of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the Articles did not address the many problems the United States was having and going to have at the time. Therefore The Articles of Confederation were one of the weakest forms of functioning governments. After many years of fighting for independence, America needed a break from any type of government. Well you see in order to have a functioning country you need some type of functioning government. When the idea of a government came up many were fearful of what could happen. What if they resorted back to the old ways? What if all those years of fighting for independence were for nothing? Congress had to start somewhere. And in November 1777, The Articles of Confederation were accepted. The Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation, the first constitution of the United States, on November 5, 1777. The main purpose of the Articles of Confederation was to have something to hold on to while America set up. However there Articles did not deal very well with state things. Such as dealing with foreign relations and economic conditions. When accepted the Articles were only to work under certain conditions. Conditions being those such as not interfering with other states and their commerce. Or states that had not paid if war debts. For example, when Greg was captured by the violent Taliban he pleaded for release from the savage men by lying about his wife giving birth to a son soon (Mortenson, 170). Mortenson essentializes the Muslim men as underdeveloped and violent by portraying that they value males over females, believing they would only let him go because he was having a son. The Albatross The particular meaning of death is evidently endless, and with the limitless range of possibilities that follow along with it comes with no amazement that the death scenes in literature sometimes create the most significant themes in their relevant stories. One similar case to this would be the death of the Albatross, in the poem The Rime of the Ancient Marinerby Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In the poem, the Mariner carelessly shots the Albatross, guiding him and his men, without giving any good reasons why he did so. This can be related to religion because the Albatross represents Christ because he was our one and only option at achieving eternal life in Heaven, even after man continued to torture him. The Albatross was the crew s one and only chance at salvation from the icy region, but the Mariner destroys all their chances after killing the bird. • 17. Persuasive Essay On Bus Safety The school bus safety in this time has gotten better and worse, but the one thing you don t see in school buses too often are the seatbelts. I believe that seat belts are needed in buses. The first patented seat belt was created by American Edward J. Claghorn on February 10, 1885 in order to keep tourists safe in taxis in New York City. This idea slowly became more popular in the manufacturing of other vehicles. Competing drivers were the first to be required to wear a seat belt. The real breakthrough with modern seat belts came in 1958 when Swedish engineer Nils Bohlin was hired by Volvo and he designed the seat belts we know today through a three point seat belt that better protects the driver and passenger in an accident. The three point design was created to help secure both the upper and lower body in an accident. Since 1966, vehicles in America were required to have seat belts in their cars. By 1975, most first world countries had a seat belt requirement in their cars. Once the three point seat belt became more common in cars, laws soon followed afterwards. By 1970, the world s first seat belt law was created in Victoria, Australia, which required passengers to wear their seat belts at all times. In the U.S., seat belt laws came around the time of the creation of The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966. At first glance, the Malbim would seem to object to the government s ban to FGM. The Malbim argues that individual freedoms are greater than societal needs. Each individual must pursue his /her goal of fulfilling the divine purpose, the elevation of the physical through the spiritual. This can be done through the pursuit of self development and self perfection via Torah observance. If this is the case, society, according to the Malbim, should help individuals reach moral perfection by giving support and freedom to individuals. The role of government is to create an environment free from impediments as much as possible and give the individual the maximum opportunity to pursue good (Sicker and TanenbaumCHAT 244 245). However, in this case, the doctors are not reaching moral perfection, as they are violating the Jewish law of bodily mutilation. From a Jewish perspective, these doctors are straying from self perfection, as this procedure is impeding on the divine purpose. The Malbim would argue that the government should bring these doctors a step closer to moral perfection, by banning the practice of FGM on girls. Selling prescription drugs online has also become extremely popular within a short period of time. It is so popular in fact; the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has just set up a new board that certifies online pharmacies and calls them Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites. To date, there are only four such sites. They are: CVS.com, Drugstore.com, MerckMedco.com, and PlanetRx.com. This is not to say that no other websites are safe, just that the Food and Drug Administration does not accept them. People are advised to buy only from the four acceptable websites. One problem with online pharmacies is that there are only four approved ones. Any others may be potentially dangerous. These other websites, though they may be completely legal, and they may be only selling prescription drugs, might not be safe. They don t carry your medical information only your physician does. Most prescription drugs have precautions and drug interactions making them unsafe for some people. A simple trip to the doctor s office may take the risk out of these websites. King Charles II was the king of England from 1630 to 1685, and during his reign the citizens of England criticized him for his efforts, or lack of in his governing. Sir George Savile, a member of Charles Privy Council, in an essay, used rhetorical devices to portray King Charles II as an ordinary person, that gets to live the life of royalty. One strategy that Savile used to portray Charles II s normality is by pulling ouut Charles flaws and examining them to show general behaviors. I was always startled when a child who had always loved being with me suddenly began to latch on to parents, refusing to let them leave in any peaceful fashion. Instead, I would have to manually separate the two and then spend the next ten minutes trying to distract and redirect the distraught toddler toward other adventures. Sometimes I was successful; at other times, I spent the entire hour coping with a fussy, inconsolable little one until my nerves were more frayed than the bottom of a teenager s old jeans. From this experience, I had developed my own special box of tricks. I began by walking the floor and calling attention to all of the pictures on the walls. I followed this by reading a book while bouncing the child on my knee or rocking. If the screams could still be heard through the insulated walls of my classroom, I tried singing the silliest songs I knew in an overly loud voice. Sometimes I think this worked because the child realized that if he or she stopped crying, I just might stop singing. If these actions failed to convince the child to cease and desist, I plopped into the floor with the sweet darling in tow and systematically pulled the strings and punched the buttons on every battery operated sound making toy in the vicinity. • 41. Summary Of On Natural Death By Lewis Thomas On Natural Death In his essay On Natural Death , research pathologist, medical doctor, and biologist Lewis Thomas attempts to console the reader about the weighty topic of death by referencing his own observations, citing scientific facts and statistics, and using the universal fear and unknown of eternal rest. Thomas first points to the example of the unforeseen death of an elm tree in his own backyard. The death of an inanimate lifeform is something with which most people are familiar and probably even comfortable. This first hand experience displays a situation in which death is quick and free of pain. It also shows how quickly death can tranpire; in this situation, the tree appeared to be in perfect health just a week before its sudden passing. The story of a dying mouse displays Thomas s own sorrow at the demise of a fellow mammal and former participant in life. The reader is naturally brought to empathize with Thomas s sentiments by his use of firsthand emotions and experiences. Thomas even calls upon the reader to understand the feelings of the mouse itself by describing what the experience likely felt to the mouse painless to the extent that the mouse is inclined to shrug. Another of his observations is that of two soldiers unfortunate fatalities after being in a mortal automobile accident. This example brings the reality of death even closer to the reader, as this time the it is experienced by human beings not unlike the reader. This situation is akin to that ... • 43. Essay On Stress And Stress The human body is like a car engine. It needs fuels to be powered for it to run, but instead of fuel we need food and nutrients to keep a steady metabolism. If too many calories are consumed (being over 3,500 calories) then those calories turn into adipose or fat. That was what they were being called in America the boys who had lost their homes and families because of the war and had wandered, lost, for weeks or months at a time before reaching the refugee camps (91). Linda Sue Park wrote a novel based on one of these boys called A long walk to water. Salva was a lost boy in a big world that had many problems, but he overcomes them by helping others as a leader (91). Salva was alone now because his uncle was killed in the war, so after he died, the group did not treat him with the same respect that Salva had to his uncle. Much later, after Salva became alone again and was left to fend for himself, Salva had become the leader of a group of about fifteen hundred boys (80). After Salva got older the group looked to him to lead them to the new refugee camps because the camps in Sudan were closing. As Salva became the leader of the boys he didn t just walk with them, he helped them personally Salva would talk to them, encourage them, coax and persuade them (81). Salva was one of the many who faced multiple situations in America and to overcome them he adapted to them. Salva was in so many camps that he heard the aid workers talk and get a little english down but after so many years in the camps, Salva could understand a little english (86). • 48. A Speech That Made History Alvarez 1 Whitney Alvarez Professor Patricia O Connor English 1102 56 04 19 2016 A Speech That Made History The 20th century was an era of change in the world. Wars changed the landscape and people, African Americans were beginning to gain some basic human rights, and women were very slowly starting to gain equality with men. Women were now able to get jobs, but they were still not fully in control of their own bodies. There was a lot of (was much) controversy over topics such as pre marital sex, birth control, and abortion, and these controversies were part of what led Margaret Sanger to give her speech about the morality of birth control in the early 1920s. Sanger used many different techniques in her speech to make it stronger and more persuasive, and also to make a lasting impression with the people who heard or read her speech. The Life of Margaret Sanger Margaret Sanger was born in 1879 into a rather large family. She was one of 18 children her mother gave birth to, although only 11 of those 18 survived. It is said that her mother s births took a major toll on her health and later motivated Sanger to take an interest in nursing and birth control. In the late 19th century, Sanger studied at Claverack College and Hudson River Institute to become a nurse. She worked as a nurse in New York for about 15 years before changing career paths and becoming a Sex Education Pioneer. • 49. Theme Of Love In A View From The Bridge Love is a powerful motivator that most writers will touch upon in plays and novels. Miller uses the many kinds of love to drive the major events of the plot of A View from the Bridge, and the different kinds intertwine as the characters change and the play develops. The play opens with a family scene, showing the lovebetween Eddie, his wife Beatrice, and Catherine. Eddie is the proud head of the household and is determined to keep the vow he promised [Catherine s] mother on her death bed ; to keep Catherine safe, even though at times the others can see that they may be too much love for the niece . This original family dynamic shows the happy life that could have been lead, and Miller deliberately wrote this scene to let his audience see what has been lost by the end of the play; a tragic end is only tragic if there was something to lose. This family love is vital to the way of life that the people of Brooklyn lead, and it comes from the strong Italian family values and the ways they shape the justice system, and in America this form of justice mixes with the state law as the residents settle for half . It is this family love that brings Marco to America, as he is desperately searching for a way for his family to escape the incredible poverty back in Sicily that leaves them to eat the sunshine . Marco also brings his brother Rodolfo, who is crazy about New York . The brothers have an incredibly strong bond, and Marco is willing to defend his brother to the death. ...
