Homeless Youth And Lgbt Youth
Introduction
The Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams Institute joined forces in conducting a web
based survey from October 2011 through March 2012 designed to assess the experiences of homeless
youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgender (LGBT) Homeless Youth Provider Survey also assessed the prevalence of LGBT youth
within the homeless populations being served by these organizations. According to their findings, as
many as 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. The most common reason found to have
caused homelessness amongst LGBT youth was family rejection after coming out. The next most
common reason for LGBT youth homelessness was being forced out of their homes by their family as
a result of coming out. It is often difficult for parents that are just learning that their child identifies as
lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to process the news and adjust smoothly. If more parents sought
guidance in how to adjust to their son or daughter coming out, then perhaps the number of homeless
LGBT youth would plummet.
As society evolves, so do views about being part of the LGBT community. People have begun to
slowly begin to acknowledge that there are many diverse ways to live, which happens to be one of the
characteristics of post modernism, and therapists are now talking about different ways to help those
families with members who identify as LGBT. Although coming out is still not something

Barcode Image Analysis Paper
We had categorized our work into 3 categories to achieve the goal of our project and to make a
complete barcode scanner Glassware to facilitate work ows in the biomedical laboratory. At rst we
were successfully able to scan a sample barcode image through the Glass. Then we had integrated the
Glass with Biobank and
Cryorepository webservice. At last we were able to display the desired information from the
webservice to the Glass display screen. The result of 3 catogories explains in detail below:

6.1 Barcode Image Analysis
In the real test, monochrome barcode image HIV 1722 of Code 128 format was used.
Glass was able to detect the barcode of image size 3.5cm x 7cm, 96 dpi (dots per inch) and bigger than
this. The distance between the barcode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other sample barcodes were also tested. Since, we have used Zbar library for reading barcode, it
had successfully detected EAN 13, UPC A, UPC E, EAN 8, Code 128, Code 39 and QR Code format
barcode. Glass was able to detect the barcode of image size 2.7cm x 3cm with bar height 5, bar
distance 0.20, text size 1.2 mm and a resolution of 300. The image size of 2.5cm x 3cm was also
tested, but Glass was not able to detect this barcode because of the autofocus problem. A sample
barcode detected by the Glass is shown in the gure 13 below:
6.2 Integration with Biobank and Cryorepository
The Biobank and Cryorepository webservice (eurocryoDB) had Apache Axis2 server with the
authentication security. But we had disabled the security authentication in the server for our test and
our program with ksoap2 library was successfully able to retrieve the xml element from the
webservice. The gure below shows the associated xml element of a sample barcode from the

Baby Igneous Rocks Research Paper
Volcano eruptions bring newborn rocks to the world. Every year, rock families would wait around
volcanos for the erupted magma or surface lava to cool down. Each family would adopt the baby
igneous rocks of their type, who share the same genes, or minerals, as them. These igneous rocks
could have a variety of appearance and crystal sizes. Some rocks composed of surface lava have
smaller, less complex crystalline structures. They were cooled much faster when they were in contact
with air or water, and larger, more complex crystalline structure would not be formed before they
harden. On the adoption day, all kinds of rocks could be spotted; with different lustre, colour,
crystalline structure, and mineral composition. As baby igneous rocks

Catherine De Medici Family Impact
Did the Medici family impacts have more of a pro or con impact?
The immediate and long term impact of wealthy families like the Mediciś. Cosimo de Medici ruled the
city of Florence in 1434 and Florence was ruled by the Medici for the next 303 years until 1737
.During Cosimoś ruling he concentrated on Florence and its politics, this in turn made politics rule
Florence not money. There was a declining factor of financial imagery in 1529, this lead the Medici´s
to change from merchants to aristocrats and some to royalty like Queen Catherine de Medici.
Cosimo de Medici began the Medici dynasty in Florence, Whose influence led to Galileo changing the
name of Jupiter s four moons.
Cosimo was given the title father of the country by using his family s money to help reshape
Florentine politics. At this time politics dominated city culture. The ultimate beneficiary of Medici

The Fractal Geometry Method of English Teaching in Kazakhstan
(Inspired by Mandelbrot s Chaos Theory) Almost all the second language learners in Kazakhstan have
the same schedule every day. They go to schools or universities where lessons are held in Russian or
in Kazakh, they attend additional classes to prepare for the exams also in Russian or may be in Kazakh
sometimes, they are on the job working mainly in Russian, they go to their English classes, may be
they start speaking English a little bit, but then they go home and revert back to their native tongue
again. May be they are making slow improvements in speaking English, but still it is not enough to be
fluent in English. The biggest problem for Kazakhstan students is that they almost never speak
English in their everyday lives. They can do it only attending English classes and only if their teacher
creates such opportunity, so that students can practice oral speech. Passive listening is okay, but
interacting is even better. It is of vital importance for the teachers to have students speak in the target
language as much as they can, stick to English. That is why teachers of the English in Kazakhstan
need practical, easy to implement, effective methods to increase the use of the English in the
classroom. One of the most effective methods for improving speaking skills is Fractal Geometry
method. The teacher provides students with How to questions and students need to write instructions
on how to perform everyday activities (How to cook perfect rice for 4 people?

Tumors And Tumors
Tumors and tumor like lesions usually been discussed in a large category, because their appearances
sometimes are similar and make differential diagnosis extremely difficult. But tumors are non
neoplastic lesions, while tumor like lesions are not, therefore, treatment and prognosis of these two
groups of disorders are usually different. The incidences of tumors and tumor like lesions have big
differences in literature, this may due to the classification of benign, malignant and non neoplastic
conditions usually overlap (Casadei et al., 2013; Pluot, 2009). In addition, some cases are

Imaging appearance of patellar GCTs is usually similar to the lesions occur in other sites(Singh et al.,
2009), and they are characterized in radiographs and CT as eccentric soap bubble like lytic bone
lesions, without sclerotic margins or mineralization, transition zone to normal bone is narrow(Pluot,
2009). Pathologic fracture and septations are frequently reported, and the septations are usually thin
and may extend throughout the tumor(Singh et al., 2009). MRI provides more details of the
extraosseous extension cortical penetration and associated soft tissue mass than X ray and CT (Singh
et al., 2009). GCTs is typically demonstrated as low to intermediate intensity on T1 weighted images
and intermediate to high signal intensity on T2 weighted MRI(Pluot, 2009). Fluid to fluid level
indicates blood filled cavities of secondary ABC formation, and areas of low signal intensity suggest
haemosiderin depositions(Pluot, 2009). Completely resection the tumor and patellectomy are the main
treatment of GCT in the patella. Postoperative follow up is necessary to detect local recurrence and
remote metastasize (Malhotra, Sharma, Kumar, Nataraj, 2010). Chondroblastoma Chondroblastoma is
a cartilage neoplasm that typically occurs in the second or third decade of life(Mirra, Gold, Picci,

Rule Changes In Major League Baseball
Major League Baseball is an organization steeped in tradition and custom. Nothing short of an
Executive Order is necessary to alter the rules that govern the sport. While that may be a slight
exaggeration, the foundation of the game has remained largely unchanged on the professional level for
decades. That said, a recent change in the rules has stirred a bit of controversy among managers,
players and fans.
As is often the case with rule alterations, the change seemed to stem from a play in Game 2 of the
National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets last season.
Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley aggressively slid into second base in an attempt to break up a
double play. In doing so, Utley slid to the outfield side of second base and collided with Mets
shortstop Ruben Tejada. The collision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purists argue that a hard slide is simply part of the game, while more progressive baseball minds point
to player safety. A similar rule change occurred in 2014 after San Francisco Giants catcher Buster
Posey was lost for the 2011 season following a collision at home plate with Scott Cousins, formerly of
the Florida Marlins. The rule served to protect catchers from the often violent home plate collisions.
The Posey play, much like the one involving Tejada, was well within the rules at the time it occurred.
The new Chase Utley rule was put to the test on two separate occasions early in this 2016 season. On
April 5, in the ninth inning of a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose
Bautista was called out while trying to break up a double play. On the play, Bautista was initially ruled
safe. However, after replay review, the call was changed to a game ending double play. Similarly, a
game between the Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers on April 8 ended when Astros outfielder
Colby Rasmus was called for interference while attempting to break up a double

Reality Of Presidential Election Essay
Reality of presidential candidates Connor Brown With the looming election drawing ever closer the
parade of losers (candidates) has come down to the final two. Only one can become President and
only one can keep the title of presidential candidate. Over the past year the country has seen over 20
different people attempt to become the leader of the free world; and they are all the same. At the very
least they are similar, and by default very easy to categorize. 1. Who is this guy? This is the candidate

Chaffey who said America needed to get on the Metric system. Martin O Malley, a Democrat who

address. Whether he did well in that speech was not important. The important thing was that randomly
during the speech he leaned over and took a drink of water. This speech was joke fodder for weeks
following the speech. What no one expected was for Marco Rubio to return 2 years later and run a
respectable presidential campaign. Ben Carson was famous for being the first Neuro surgeon to
successfully separate conjoined twins; and in 2015 he ran for president. He did well in the pools for a
couple weeks, but after the Oregon Shooting he said what the victims should have done (not the most
sensitive thing to do after a mass shooting) causing a dive in his polls. After dropping out of the race

Addison s Disease
A disorder that takes place when your body produces an insufficient amount of certain hormones that
are produced by the adrenal glands is called Addison s disease. With Addison s disease, the adrenal
glands do not produce enough cortisol and often times an insufficient amount of aldosterone as well.
Doctors sometimes refer to Addison s disease as the illness of chronic adrenal insufficiency, or also
called hypocortisolism. In 1855, Thomas Addison first described adrenal insufficiency, which was
subsequently named after him. The basis of Addison disease has dramatically changed since its initial
description. Originally, the disease usually resulted from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A person should visit their doctor for the diagnosis of this disease if they have severe fatigue, muscle
or joint pains, salt cravings, unintentional weight loss, and gastrointestinal problems, such as vomiting
and abdominal pain and nausea. The cause of Addison s disease is the result of the adrenal glands
being damaged and producing insufficient amounts of cortisol and aldosterone as well. The adrenal
glands are located just above the kidneys. Being part of the endocrine system, the adrenal glands
produce hormones that give instructions to almost every organ and tissue in the body. The adrenal
glands are made up of two different sections. The interior (medulla) which produces hormones similar
to adrenaline. The (cortex) outer layer has the role of producing a group of hormones that are called
corticosteroids; these include mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids and the male sex hormones known
as (androgens). Addison s disease takes place when the cortex is damaged and does not produce
hormones in adequate quantities. Doctors often refer to this condition that involves damage to the
adrenal glands as a primary adrenal insufficiency. When the adrenal glands fail to produce
adrenocortical hormones it is commonly a result of an autoimmune disease where the body is
attacking itself. For an unknown reason the immune system sometimes views the

Due to civil war, Lebanon s economy was highly affected, for instance central government institutions
disintegrated. Therefore the estate was handicapped, and accumulated several debts, for example by
2001 Lebanon had reached $28 billion, or nearly 150% of GDP.
As a matter of fact, economic performance was sluggish in 2000 and 2001 and there was no growth in
2000.
Lebanon s current program of reforms focuses on three main aspects:
Economic restoration and sustainable growth
Fiscal consolidation and structural improvement in public sector finances
Monetary, financial, and price stability
The Lebanese pound is firmly pegged to the American dollar since September 1999. Furthermore
Lebanese currency has undetermined competitiveness, with merchandise exports falling from 23% of

In 2002, the Lebanese government increased gasoline taxes, reduced expenditures, and approved a

How Technology Has Made Brick And Mortar Markets
We have grown into a world filled with a tremendous amounts of technology. The rapid growth in
technology has made brick and mortar markets either start to wither away or it has forced companies
to develop their own e commerce branch of their company to help them stay in the race with the
advancement in technology. An example that stands out to me is the well known retail store Target.
Target has not only created a way for their customers to buy products on line, but they have also
developed an application for their frequent shoppers, a debit card for Target lovers that want to save
5% instantly, and recently an online service to order products for pick up in store. Before explaining
all the e commerce innovations that Target has launched throughout the recent years, I believe a brief
history of Target is necessary.
Target was actually created by the owner of Dayton s department store, George Draper Dayton, who in
1962 decided that he wanted to transform his well known family run department stores into one of the
nation s largest discount store chains. Dayton believed this would demonstrate the visionary
leadership that the company wanted. The leaders of the idea came together to create the name of the
store and the logo. They opened their first store in Roseville, Minnesota in 1962 and then kept
constructing new stores all around the US. Target s first distribution center went up in Fridley,
Minnesota in the year 1969. Their first major development in advertising was

How Do The Fuels ( Carbohydrate And Fat ) We Use Change...
Lab Report How do the fuels (carbohydrate and fat) we use change during exercise of varying
intensity?
During exercise energy comes from Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). There are 3 energy systems, these
are glycolysis, phosphocreatine (ATP CP) and the aerobic system. During short term intense activities
a large amount of power needs to be produced by the muscles creating a high demand for ATP. The
phosphagen system (ATP CP system) is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997.
Creatine phosphate (CP), which is stored in the skeletal muscles, donates a phosphate to ADP to
produce ATP. No fat or carbohydrate or fat is used in this process, and the regeneration of ATP comes

the production of more ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997. Conversion to lactate occurs when the demand for
oxygen is greater than the supply, so for example during anaerobic exercise. Conversely, when there is
enough oxygen available to meet the muscles needs, pyruvate, via the acetyl CoA) enters the
mitochondria and goes through the aerobic metabolism.
When oxygen is not supplied fast enough to meet the muscles needs (anaerobic glycolysis), there is an
increase in hydrogen ions, this causes the muscle pH to decrease; a condition called acidosis, and
other metabolites ADP, P and potassium ions. Acidosis and the accumulation of these other
metabolites cause a number of problems inside the muscles, including inhibition of specific enzymes
involved in metabolism and muscle contraction, inhibition of the release of calcium, this is the trigger
for muscle contraction, from its storage in muscles, and interference with the muscles electrical
charges, Enoka Stuart 1992; Glaister 2005; McLester 1997. As a result of these changes, muscles lose

Franklins Preface To Poor Rich Essay
In Benjamin Franklin amp;#8217;s preface to Poor Richard Improved, quot; The Way to Wealth quot;,
Franklin offers many adages to help the reader conserve money. Many of these sayings are common
even today. The title of this preface makes since because the title, quot; The Way to Wealth quot;, can
be interpreted as The Road to Wealth. If the reader does as these adages tell them, he or she should be
on their way to wealth. Franklin offers advice to just about anybody. Franklin believed that wealth was
important because it led to both frugality and industry. Frugality and industry were listed as his fifth
and sixth virtues.
Franklin tells us that in order to be industrious, we must always be employed in something useful. His

Franklin tells us that in order to be frugal, we can amp;#8217;t waste anything. People who spend
lavishly should listen to the maxim, quot;Silks and Satins, Scarlet and Velvets put out the Kitchen Fire
quot;. This saying reminds us that the nice, expensive things all work just as well as the generic ones.
Another proverb that a person with no frugality should abide by is, quot;Women and Wine, Game and
Deceit, Make the Wealth small, and the Wants great. quot; This is one I can definitely relate to.
Women, wine, and playing around all do put a dent in your pocket book.
quot;Early to Bed, and Early to rise, makes a Man healthy, wealthy, and wise quot;, is another I can
relate to. This maxim is directed to all slothful people. My constant tardiness proves my laziness and
my need to abide by this one. Another similar adage is, quot;Plough deep, While Sluggards sleep, and
you should have Corn to sell and to keep. quot; Both of these maxims tell us that in order to get ahead,
you can amp;#8217;t be lazy.
Franklin believed that a person that listens to the sayings would avoid being poor. He wrote that
poverty robs a person of their spirit and virtue. His proverb, quot; amp;#8216;Tis hard for an empty
bag to stand upright quot;, lets us know that it is hard to function with no spirit or virtues. I would
suggest reading this preface to anyone who has problems with money. The sayings still hold true in
today amp;#8217;s society. Many

Marijuana Legalization Support
Since 1969, marijuana support has risen tremendously from 12% to 52% in polls recently conducted
(Nelson, Marijuana Legalization Support 1). Around the turn of the century, there was a spike in the
increase of support; from 17% to 32% in 11 years (Nelson, Marijuana Legalization Support 1). The
drug originates from the ground. It is grown the same way that other edible plants are. Farmers grow
plants that humans eat, but why is marijuana different? Philosophically, marijuana is just a plant. The
main thing different with this plant is that it has addictive properties which most foods grown by
farmers do not have. When a human buys food at a store or grows their own, the person does not

Compare And Contrast Education Reform
An educational system is a means to develop a workforce, to improve the socioeconomic status of the
poor via social mobility, and to create a shared culture. Given these important roles, educational
systems are targets for social reformers. Joseph Lancaster and Arne Duncan were both education
reformers with strong and influential ideas about what and how students are taught. Lancaster was a
London schoolmaster and eventual leader of the Monitorial education reform movement in the early
1800s. Duncan was the US Secretary of Education from 2009 2015, and led an era of active federal
education reform. In comparing and contrasting these two educational reformers from the past and
present, there are more similarities than differences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recent United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan was still trying to accomplish the same
goal. In Lancaster s book Improvements in Education he argues people should invest money into the
education of the poor. Why then so eager in the pursuit of riches? and why not rather pay that attention
to the infant poor, which their wants requires? (Improvements in Education). This line demonstrates
that Lancaster believes people should put money towards the education of the poor so that they can
have a chance to better their place in society. Lancaster tried to lower the cost of education by
developing the monitorial system of education which uses less teachers and so lowers salary costs.
This is similar to Arne Duncan s emphasis on investing more money into education and in managing
costs. At the end of his term, The Washington Post reported his agency directed $100 billion in
stimulus funds to districts small and large that were otherwise facing severe job cuts in the wake of the
2008 recession. The move preserved an estimated 350,000 teaching jobs. In his speeches, Duncan said
that states and institutions of higher education will need to meet us halfway in doing more to keep
college costs down and boost completion . This statement made by Duncan shows that both he and
Lancaster have similar ideas on the cost of education, they both believe that education was a social
investment and that the cost of education should be lowered so poorer people can

Example Of Monopoly In Monopoly
Do you think Indian Railway is an example for monopoly market? What are the types of price
discrimination that Indian railway practice?
Introduction
Indian railway is one of the best example for showing monopoly. In economics, monopoly exists when
delivery of a particular product or service is completely controlled by an individual or an enterprise.
Indian Railways is the state owned railway company of India having more than 64000 Kilometres of
track and 6909 stations. Indian railways has a position, which is not possible in perfectly competitive
markets, where it can charge different price to different group of consumers for an identical product,

Evolution of Tapetum Lucidum
Human Eye Vs. Animal EyeBy:Andrea Torres
ABSTRACT
The tapetum lucidum is an evolutionary advantage for animals. It enables animals to see in dimmer
light than the animal would otherwise be able to see in. The tapetum lucidum is useful to animals, but
it also has a use to humans. Human beings use the tapetum lucidum to scan for reflected eye shine, in
order to detect and identify the species of animals in the dark and to send trained search dogs and
search horses out at night. Historically, its function was regarded as simply to increase the light
intensity of an image on the retina. Using eye shine to identify animals in the dark implies not only
color but, also several other features. The color reciprocates to the type of tapetum ... Show more

The tapetum lucidum, reflects with constructive interference allowing it to increase the quality of light
to pass through the retina. For example, on a cat the tapetum lucidum lowers the minimum threshold
of vision 6 fold, empowering the cat to see light that is invisible to the human.
A = optic disk (retina is strongly attached here).
B = tapetum lucidum
C = retina
D = lens
TYPES OF TAPETUM
Tapeta can be classified according to their location in vertebrates and mechanism in invertebrates.
Choroidal tapeta are the most common and are classified as tapetum fibrosum and tapetum
cellulosum. The simplest type is the tapetum fibrosum, which is found principally in mammals,
including herbivores (elephants, horses and goats), cetaceans (whales and dolphins), certain
marsupials (Tasmanian Devil), and a rodent (Cuniculus pacas). The tapetum fibrosum consists of
extracellular collagen fibrils that are stacked orderly with the majority of the its fibers running
horizontally. The number of layered fibrils varies between species and can be up to several hundred
thick. The most studied tapetum fibrosum among mammals is found in the cow and is located
posteriorly and dorsally. The thickness is variable, increasing its thickness posteriorly. In species with
a choroidal tapetum, the retinal epithelium in the area is the tapetum in un pigmented, it allowing the
light to pass subsequently reflected by the tapetum. This contrasts with the pigmented retinal
epithelium

Alcohol Consumption In The United States
Alcohol consumption is the third leading actual cause of death in the United States.
This actual cause of death leads to some of the leading deaths in the United States such as heart
disease, cancer, and others. It is now the question that everyone would ask, why would someone
consume alcohol if it doesn t do any good and just bad? The terms good and bad relates to ones health.
Public health goal is to protect and better the health of the entire population. In order to approach this
problem public health came up with disciplines and plans that will help this problem. The disciplines
of public health are the epidemiology, biostatistics, biomedical basis, environmental factors and social

One of the main reasons alcohol conusmption is the third leading actual cause of death is because it is
accepted by society. Alcohol is sold at social events such as resturants, bowling alleys, baseball games,
and then present at family events, etc. Examples are; at a lunch with friends, alcohol is available to
order, at a wedding with family there is a champagne toast, while watching a baseball game there are
people coming around selling beer to order, etc. The key in this is that since it is accepted by society, it
is used as a main drink when socializing. Alcohol consumption is also based on ones behavior, and
consuming alcohol would be a behavioral risk factor. It is considered a behavioral risk factor because
it is the cause leading up to many different deaths in the United States as seen. It is hard to control
ones behavior, because it is based on what they are so used to doing like a habit. Examples include;
when someone is depressed, stressed, sad, trying to escape reality, much more, they drink. It is already
mentioned that alcohol relaxes and puts one to ease. This is why those consuming alcohol feel that this

cases that has to be performed through the day. It is the foundation of the proper functioning of the

includes the scheduling of the list, skill mix and staffing, resource management and challenges. Poor

Initially the upper lobectomy patient who required an ICU bed was first on the list. However due to
the latex patient it was rescheduled to be the second procedure, but because of the lack of strycker
stack system, all the VAT had to be brought forward resulting in upper lobectomy being booked as the
fourth case. Regardless of its delay, the ICU bed would still not be available if the surgery was to be
performed fourth, thus the bronchoscopy surgery was conducted prior to the upper lobectomy
procedure, in order to preserve time. If this case was done before, then the patient would have had to
be kept in the theatre, thus impeding on the time available to perform the following surgeries. Hence,
by rescheduling the list to allow the upper lobectomy case to be conducted fifth, it allowed the
smoother flow of surgeries while exhibiting a more efficient time management. As time consumption
was also reduced, it decreased the cost as it increased the amount of patients treated with the same
resource (Officer of the Auditor General (OAG) 2015). However, despite the time management, the
theatre went overtime. An element that contributed to the overrunning of the theatre is due to the VAT
surgeries being performed by a training surgeon under the supervision of a consultant. The hospital

suspicions towards why a group that was created to fight terrorists would need to be involved in aiding

Unfortunately, FEMA already knows what most Americans don t. There will be a huge amount of
casualties because so few people are prepared for a state of emergency to happen. Because of this,

Although this sounds cruel, it should be used as motivation for people to not expect FEMA to be their
savior in case of a disaster. They have to be able to handle situations on their own instead.
As you can see, this organization is highly motivated to work against the American people, not for
them. That is why it is extremely important that people start preparing now for a possible crisis now.

Gender And Sexual Issues Among Men And Women
There are certain assumptions made by society that are likely to make a women accused of witch craft
such as social status, age, and marital status. It is clear that the gender and sexual issues among men
and women are a contribution towards those who were punished for witch craft. Women who were
blamed for witchcraft had very little sway to change the minds of others once that seed was planted.
Even though a woman may be poor or even unmarried these were characteristics that made a woman
more likely to be an easy target to blame mishaps on. A woman s social status stemmed from popular
misogyny and the ideals that men expected from them. For example during the fifteenth century
Dominican reform movement they promoted celibacy in woman. A woman s sexuality was thought of
in the same way as Virgin Mary so they equated sin and death and if a women did not fit into this
religious picture she was most likely to be accused of witch craft. As stated by Sigrid The Malleus
claims that women rather than men become witches because they are weaker, less intelligent, and so
lascivious that they fall easy prey to temptation (Fearless Wives, pg. 14). This idea stemming from the
fifteenth century reform is a representation of how men thought of woman. Men believed that women
were more likely to succumb to witchy powers because they are easily tempted or not as smart. Most
alleged witches were spinsters who were poor rural spinners working for low wage. However the job

Emergency Medical Services ( Emergency Care )
As you may know, it does not matter where you are in the United States of America, you have the
opportunity to call 911 and receive emergency medical care. Depending on where you are when you
make that call may have an effect on how long it takes for someone to get to you. So, what defines the
word emergency? Is it a life threading situation, or just an everyday illness? Community Paramedicine
has many benefits, from helping cut down on people being re admitted to the hospital, to helping
people not misuse the emergency 911 system even if they do not realize they are doing so. Some
people may not realize that different emergency medical services run anywhere from one thousand
calls a year to one million calls a year. Community Paramedicine can help the so called frequent flyers
to where they do not call as much and they are more independent thus freeing up time, money, and
resources. For paramedics to respond to those life threating emergencies.
Emergency medical services has 4 levels of certification. Emergency medical responder, emergency
medical technician, advanced emergency medical technician, and paramedic. Progressing at each level
you gain more skills, responsibility, and knowledge, but all of which are within emergency and urgent
care. Some people get tired and burned out faster than others. Putting Community Paramedicine into
the mix adds another level as well as provides opportunity for paramedics that have twenty plus years

commentary and is speaking to you about a lot of things that it feels are important. It is looking to
make a lot of points about Australian society and the sacrifice of having children and of living a
suburban lifestyle. Gwen Harwood s Suburban Sonnet is a fourteen line poem with strong values of

contrast an object to the Australian housewives emotions. Seen in the line A pot boils over. As she
rushes to the stove too late, a wave of nausea overpowers, (stanza one, line four). The mood of the
poem is very dull and presents a negative connotation. Constant imagery is used to paint this theme
into the readers head, The children caper round a sprung mousetrap where a mouse lies dead. When
the soft corpse won t move they seem afraid, (stanza one, line ten). Symbolisation is also used to
counteract the miserable life of an Australian housewife. This can be seen in the line She practises a
fugue, though it can matter to no one now if she plays well or not, (stanza one, line one). This line
suggests that the woman portrayed is a musician. The poem latter reads, Once she played for
Rubinstein, who yawned, (stanza one, line nine). This suggests she was talented enough to present to
Rubenstein but didn t succeed. The children caper, round a sprung mousetrap where a mouse lies dead.
This line symbolizes the housewife. Her dreams of becoming a musician are trapped within her own
environment. This same line can also evaluate the difficulties and harshness of the urban Australian
life. Seeming sad this is something that is exciting to the children. The rhyming scheme uses irregular
couplets such as matter and chatter on different lines. This

Harry Potter Betrayal
From Julius Caesar s twenty three stab wounds to Gatsby s disloyal love, the importance of the cruel
act of betrayal in literature has long been discussed. Perhaps less historically, betrayal has also
appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and loyalty
within the wizarding community. However, betrayal also shows itself in acts of love and bravery in
Rowling s beloved series. In the Harry Potter books betrayals are used to reveal truths about
characters, represent development, and uphold the belief held within all seven of the books: that we
are defined by the choices that we make. Within the Harry Potter series, betrayals are often used to
show sides of characters that we might not have otherwise seen. With the first wizarding war in full
swing Lily and James Potter (in hiding from Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters) are betrayed by
their close friend Peter Pettigrew. As their secret keeper it is his responsibility to protect them to his
own death. Instead he goes against the traits of his house, bravery and chivalry, by betraying them.

Literature Review
Conflict and the Effects
Conflict can be defined as a struggle between people with opposing needs, ideas, beliefs, values, or
goals (Understanding Conflict and Conflict Management). When conflict occurs in the workplace, it
can reduce moral, lower productivity, increase absenteeism, and can ultimately lead to serious or
violent crimes (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). Studies show that managers spend at least 25% of
their time resolving workplace conflict (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). Productivity of managers
and employees are affected by the amount of conflict they experience on a day to day basis. How
much people are affected by different conflicts can be dependent on their personal conflict style. Each
individual personality will handle a given situation in a different way.
Sources of Conflict The first step to addressing any conflict is defining what the actual conflict is. The
range of a conflict can be something very minor to a large conflict that affects an entire department or
the whole workplace. It is important to understand and be able to identify the different levels of
conflict and how they may manifest in order to manage people (Workplaces that Work). Conflict is a
predictable part of human relationships and will occur in every workplace (Workplaces that Work).
The most basic of conflicts in the workplace is having conflicting needs (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner,
2002). The conflict of needs is produced by

Dawsey writes To be sure we have been the topic of intense debate and discussion in America, by both
Blacks and whites. Our humanity has been stripped, restored, attacked, defended, impugned and
explained in literature more often than we d like to recall. We have been hyped and stereotyped,
valorized and demonized. (pg119) We need both opinion black and white on a debt both are humanity.
Black and white has different experience in life. I have never heard that objection with bodies in black
community too. This reminded me of president clinton. That surprise me that he didn t had a problem
with black. This is how racism has start in this world. Cultural critic bell hooks has written: The black
body has always received attention within the framework of white supremacy, as racist/sexist
iconography has been deployed to perpetuate notions of innate biological inferiority. Against this
cultural backdrop, every movement for black liberation in this society, whether reformist or radical,
has had to formulate a counter hegemonic discourse of the body to effectively resist white supremacy.

Tarrow An Example Of Social Movement
Tarrow gives an example from the 1930s depression, in which there was a rise in worker mobilization
in the United States as well as in Europe. French and American workers occupied factories in response
to large reduction in pay. These social movements sparked the new reformed administrations that
came to power in the U.S. and France during the 30s which created programs that sought to encourage
labor insurgency and reduce workers grievances and repression. Another example of social
movements making the government more responsive comes from the American civil rights movement.
A political party is not a social movement, but often moment leaders seek the support of party leaders

Traditional Japanese landscapes can be divided into 3 types: Tsukiyama Gardens (hill type garden)
Karesansui Gardens (dry garden) and Chaniwa Gardens (tea garden).
Tsukiyama Gardens: ponds, hills, rocks, trees, flowers, bridges and paths are used to create a
miniature reproduction of a natural landscape that is often famous in China or Japan. The name
Tsukiyama refers to the creation of artificial hills.
Karesansui Gardens illustrate natural landscapes in a more abstract way, using stones, sand and some
paths bags for the most representative mountains, islands, rivers and seas. The gardens are strongly
influenced by Zen Buddhism and used for meditation.
Sakura and the Cherry Blossom Festival
Sakura (cherry blossom) is Japan s unofficial national flower. It is celebrated for centuries and has a
well defined place in Japanese culture. There are many varieties of cherry trees in Japan, most
blooming only for a few days in the spring. The Japanese celebrate that time of the year with Hanami

The Life of Oprah Gail Winfrey Essay
The Life of Oprah Gail Winfrey Oprah Gail Winfrey was born January 29, 1954 on the family farm in
Kosciusko, Mississippi. Her dad, Vermon Winfrey, who was stationed as a solider at a local base; and
her mother, Vernita Lee, were both young at the time of Oprah s birth. Her parents never married.
Shortly after she was born her mother found a job, as a maid, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Oprah was
left in the care of her grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee. As a child Oprah never wasted a minute of her
young imaginative mind on something that seemed to be boring. Through her early years her only
friends were the farm animals. She gave them parts in the plays she made and included them in games.

At age six Oprah was sent to live with her mother in Milwaukee. They lived in one room of another
woman s house. Her mother worked long, tiring hours and Oprah was left with her cousins, and
neighbours. At night Oprah s mother was too tired to pay attention to her. Oprah didn t understand
this. It was then that she began to disobey and talk back to her mother. Her mother knew Oprah was
unhappy, and she was sent to live with her father in Nashville, Tennessee. Her father was now married
to Zelma, Oprah s stepmother. Oprah knew that she had to obey her father and stepmother. While
living in Nashville Oprah was forced to do pages of addition and subtraction questions each day. On
Sundays she went to church, where she attended Sunday school and did recitals. One day, Oprah s
mother called and told her that she was pregnant. She wanted Oprah to come back and live with her in
a house, not a room. So Oprah went back to live with her mother in Milwaukee. In Milwaukee Oprah
lived with her mother and half sister. While Oprah s mother worked long, hard hours, Oprah
entertained her little sister. Two years later her mother had a baby boy. Oprah had a stepbrother. It was
then that Oprah was saddened; she felt that her mother didn t give her as much attention as the other
children. Oprah fought with her stepbrother and sister. She began telling

Alejandro Inarritu s Mexican Thriller, Amores Perros Essay
Fuck, he s bleeding to death! (1:26) screams Jorge. Octavio accelerates on the gas even harder.
Octavio aggressively swerves through the congestion of cars. Octavio looks back and sees the Dodge
Ram directly behind their beater car. The man in the passenger seat of the Dodge pulls out a gun and
fires. Nervously, Octavio and Jorge duck. A school bus suddenly pulls up in front of their car.
Breaking abruptly, the bloody dog tumbles to the base of the car, and Octavio is able to flee the scene.
The Dodge is nowhere in sight. Octavio and Jorge shriek with excitement. They run a red light.
Another car suddenly appears from a corner, striking the two by surprise; and violently crashes into
the side of their car, initiating a brutal collision of destruction, flames, and blood a great deal of blood.
The striking collision opens the scene to Alejandro Inarritu s Mexican thriller, Amores Perros (2000).
This crash presents the link to three unrelated narratives that are symbolically tied together by the
chaotic lifestyle of the modern day metropolis of Mexico City. Amores Perros is an enthralling film
that captures the socio political themes regarding economic instability, social class, and gender in
contemporary Mexico City. Mexico City throughout the twentieth century was undergoing major
urbanization (Connolly). As a result, the overwhelming influx of new inhabitants brought about
economic chaos due to overpopulation, political disorder, and a distinct social class stratum

Hawking s A Briefer History
Steven Hawking s A Briefer History in Time tells a simplified story of the universe. Hawking s starts
out the book by going over the different type of cosmology that was held throughout history. He
mentions the beliefs that Aristotle, Copernicus, Galileo and other notable individuals held about the
universe. This discussion is used to segue into a brief description of the different theories, laws, and
ideas concerning the universe held by people today. Newton s laws of motion and gravity and Einstein
s theory of relativity are only some of the models that Hawking discusses. Thus, the main purpose of
Hawking s A Briefer History in Time is to inform the readers of the development in our understanding
of how the universe works. In his conclusion, Hawking s specifically includes the term Mind of God
(142). I believe that for Hawking, to understand the mind of God is to understand the workings of the
universe and our place in it. Hawking s A Briefer History of Time also asserts that it is possible to
know the mind of God. In essence, although, Hawking does not explicitly say that we can explain the
world without God, he does use the theories of others to question the existence of God. Although,
Hawking s discussion of the theories concerning the universe can be seen as contradictory to the idea
of an absolute God, the theories coincide and broaden my understanding of God.
Hawking s explanation of Newton s models portrays the universe as complex because of the relative

Optimism In Night
Hope and optimism can be a very broad topic but that all depends on how you look at it. And by no
means are they the same thing. Optimism is being confident of the future or confident in the success of
something. Hope is a feeling that something desired might happen which is completely different from
actually believing something and having confidence in it. Some say optimism is a lifestyle choice
which is completely rational. Both of these topics are shown throughout all these following pieces of
literature and in the film. Hope and optimism are both positive things to live by but these examples
can show that maybe sometimes it can backfire on you.

Many people chose their own lifestyle and live the way they want to live. Beasts of the Southern Wild,
deepens our thinking that perhaps optimism is critically linked to our ability to come to terms with
where we are. Everyone in the bathtub lives their for a reason and that reason is they do not want to
live with a tag on them wherever they are. When people see them living in the bathtub, they think that
they need help and are stranded there, but what they don t know is that out of the places they could
live, they chose there. This gives them freedom. They can live however they want with no boundaries.
Wink, who is Hushpuppy s father, is an interesting character to the film. He is a very strong figure
who wants no help with anything. Raising his daughter is all he cares about. Wink has some disease
and only cares about showing his six year old daughter how to live on her own. One thing we hear
wink say is I got it under control (Zeitlin). This is a very strong quote by him refusing help. This
deepens our knowledge for him as a character by showing us how strong he is as a character and how
much dignity he has. It shows us that he really wants to live his own life. Examples in the film of that
are when he is taken to the Open Arms hospital and finds his own way out to escape back the the
bathtub and again later in

The Importance Of Technology On Technology
The value of wanting to learn new things, to add diversity to our lives, is what strives humanity to
continue onwards the road to innovation and progression. It is embraced and enhanced by millennials,
who scour the internet exploring different opinions, ideas, cultures, and more. Critics brand the
millennial generation with the stereotype of being too dependent on technology due to the generation s
prolonged and frequent uses of phones and computers; however, it is due to this criticized heavy usage
of technology that allows millennials to explore a variety of subjects without end and becoming more
open minded with the diversity of information. A prime central hub of information that millennials
flock to would be youtube, the second most visited page on the internet according to alexa.com. This
popular social video sharing platform promotes thoughts, ideas, and concepts to be freely expressed in
the form of user created videos. Viewers of these user created content are typically inspired to show
support for the creator by subscribing to view future content or by leaving a like to show that they
enjoyed their video. Others could be inspired to search for more videos with similar content or even
create their own content to share with the world. This cycle of creation and support eventually
developed into a culture with relatively low barriers to artistic expression and civic engagement,

Osmolarity Lab Report
To osmo regulate properly in a marine habitat, physiological mechanisms intended to conserve fresh
water and thus avoid dehydration are required. Marine mammals are well adapted to their hyper
osmotic environment. Their cells need to maintain both a water balance and an ion balance and life
depends on the maintenance of the transmembrane potential. The concentration of potassium ions is
higher in cells than on the extracellular fluid (ECF) and the concentration of sodium ions is higher in
the extracellular fluid.
Osmolarity is describes the total solute concentration. A condition in which the total number of solutes
(i.e. permeable and impermeable) in a solution is the same or equal to the total solutes in another
solution. If two solutions of similar osmolarity are separated by a semi permeable membrane, there is
no tendency for the solvent to move from one compartment to another. Hypo osmotic and hyper
osmotic solutions have a lower and higher osmolalities, respectively. Isotonicity, hypotonicity and
hypertonicity describe the effects of osmolality across a semipermeable membrane (Brooker, 2008). ...

Pharmacotherapy for Clients Dependent on a Substance Essay
Medications approved by the FDA for treatment of alcohol and opioid dependence, including
acamprosate, disulfiram, naltrexone, methadone, and buprenorphine, have not been widely studied in
the dually diagnosed population. Often, study participation criteria exclude individuals with co
occurring substance use disorders and mental illness, and it is only in recent years that research
specifically focused on this population has become more common. Pharmacotherapy has also been
underutilized in practice. A survey of 955 bipolar individuals found that while 8% met criteria for a
current alcohol use disorder and 5% met criteria for a current non alcohol substance use disorder, only
0.4% received disulfiram, methadone, naltrexone, and/or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a dearth of research on the use of acamprosate in the collective dually diagnosed population,
attributable perhaps to its relatively recent approval in 2004. There is, however, evidence supporting
the use of disulfiram and naltrexone. In a landmark study, Croop et al. (1997) found naltrexone to be
safe among 865 clients. Although this study did not specifically focus on dually diagnosed clients,
such clients were common in both the treatment and placebo groups, so the research is clinically
relevant. A later review of 72 clients receiving naltrexone for alcoholism showed good treatment
retention (81.9% completed the 8 week study) and good clinical response (82% reduced drinking by at
least 75% and only 17% relapsed at 8 weeks) (Maxwell Shinderman, 2000). In a later placebo
controlled study of 254 outpatient clients with diverse psychiatric disorders and co occurring alcohol
dependence, Petrakis and colleagues (2005) found that use of disulfiram or naltrexone was associated
with a significant reduction in drinking days per week, and an increase in consecutive days of
abstinence, compared to placebo. Clients were randomly assigned to receive (open label) disulfiram
and (blinded) naltrexone, naltrexone only, disulfiram only, or placebo only. In this multisite, placebo
controlled study of VA clients, there

Class Voting In Capitalist Democracies
After reading through the journal article Class voting in capitalist democracies since World War II:
Dealignment, realignment, or trendless fluctuation it was interesting to see how education and income
didn t play a part in how people associated with a political party. For example, those who are within
the affluent class would usually conjoin with those in the republic party, while those amongst the
lower or middle class would define themselves as democrats. Regardless of this belief, Manza, Hout,
and Brook demonstrate that the left wing (or democratic) party is more about distributing the wealth
and equal opportunity throughout the minority class. As a result, the left wing party speaks in favor of
the working class. Additionally, the right

  • 2. Homeless Youth And Lgbt Youth Introduction The Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams Institute joined forces in conducting a web based survey from October 2011 through March 2012 designed to assess the experiences of homeless youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Homeless Youth Provider Survey also assessed the prevalence of LGBT youth within the homeless populations being served by these organizations. According to their findings, as many as 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. The most common reason found to have caused homelessness amongst LGBT youth was family rejection after coming out. The next most common reason for LGBT youth homelessness was being forced out of their homes by their family as a result of coming out. It is often difficult for parents that are just learning that their child identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to process the news and adjust smoothly. If more parents sought guidance in how to adjust to their son or daughter coming out, then perhaps the number of homeless LGBT youth would plummet. As society evolves, so do views about being part of the LGBT community. People have begun to slowly begin to acknowledge that there are many diverse ways to live, which happens to be one of the characteristics of post modernism, and therapists are now talking about different ways to help those families with members who identify as LGBT. Although coming out is still not something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Glass was able to detect the barcode of image size 2.7cm x 3cm with bar height 5, bar distance 0.20, text size 1.2 mm and a resolution of 300. The image size of 2.5cm x 3cm was also tested, but Glass was not able to detect this barcode because of the autofocus problem. A sample barcode detected by the Glass is shown in the gure 13 below: 6.2 Integration with Biobank and Cryorepository The Biobank and Cryorepository webservice (eurocryoDB) had Apache Axis2 server with the authentication security. • 4. Baby Igneous Rocks Research Paper Volcano eruptions bring newborn rocks to the world. Every year, rock families would wait around volcanos for the erupted magma or surface lava to cool down. Each family would adopt the baby igneous rocks of their type, who share the same genes, or minerals, as them. These igneous rocks could have a variety of appearance and crystal sizes. Some rocks composed of surface lava have smaller, less complex crystalline structures. They were cooled much faster when they were in contact with air or water, and larger, more complex crystalline structure would not be formed before they harden. On the adoption day, all kinds of rocks could be spotted; with different lustre, colour, crystalline structure, and mineral composition. As baby igneous rocks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Fractal Geometry Method of English Teaching in Kazakhstan (Inspired by Mandelbrot s Chaos Theory) Almost all the second language learners in Kazakhstan have the same schedule every day. They go to schools or universities where lessons are held in Russian or in Kazakh, they attend additional classes to prepare for the exams also in Russian or may be in Kazakh sometimes, they are on the job working mainly in Russian, they go to their English classes, may be they start speaking English a little bit, but then they go home and revert back to their native tongue again. May be they are making slow improvements in speaking English, but still it is not enough to be fluent in English. The biggest problem for Kazakhstan students is that they almost never speak English in their everyday lives. They can do it only attending English classes and only if their teacher creates such opportunity, so that students can practice oral speech. Passive listening is okay, but interacting is even better. It is of vital importance for the teachers to have students speak in the target language as much as they can, stick to English. That is why teachers of the English in Kazakhstan need practical, easy to implement, effective methods to increase the use of the English in the classroom. One of the most effective methods for improving speaking skills is Fractal Geometry method. The teacher provides students with How to questions and students need to write instructions on how to perform everyday activities (How to cook perfect rice for 4 people? ... Pathologic fracture and septations are frequently reported, and the septations are usually thin and may extend throughout the tumor(Singh et al., 2009). MRI provides more details of the extraosseous extension cortical penetration and associated soft tissue mass than X ray and CT (Singh et al., 2009). • 8. Rule Changes In Major League Baseball Major League Baseball is an organization steeped in tradition and custom. Nothing short of an Executive Order is necessary to alter the rules that govern the sport. While that may be a slight exaggeration, the foundation of the game has remained largely unchanged on the professional level for decades. That said, a recent change in the rules has stirred a bit of controversy among managers, players and fans. As is often the case with rule alterations, the change seemed to stem from a play in Game 2 of the National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets last season. Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley aggressively slid into second base in an attempt to break up a double play. In doing so, Utley slid to the outfield side of second base and collided with Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada. The collision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Purists argue that a hard slide is simply part of the game, while more progressive baseball minds point to player safety. A similar rule change occurred in 2014 after San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was lost for the 2011 season following a collision at home plate with Scott Cousins, formerly of the Florida Marlins. The rule served to protect catchers from the often violent home plate collisions. The Posey play, much like the one involving Tejada, was well within the rules at the time it occurred. The new Chase Utley rule was put to the test on two separate occasions early in this 2016 season. On April 5, in the ninth inning of a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista was called out while trying to break up a double play. On the play, Bautista was initially ruled safe. However, after replay review, the call was changed to a game ending double play. Similarly, a game between the Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers on April 8 ended when Astros outfielder Colby Rasmus was called for interference while attempting to break up a double ... • 10. Reality Of Presidential Election Essay Reality of presidential candidates Connor Brown With the looming election drawing ever closer the parade of losers (candidates) has come down to the final two. Only one can become President and only one can keep the title of presidential candidate. Over the past year the country has seen over 20 different people attempt to become the leader of the free world; and they are all the same. At the very least they are similar, and by default very easy to categorize. 1. Who is this guy? This is the candidate no one knows. This is the Lincoln Chaffey, Martin O Malley, and George Pataki (google him). Lincoln Chaffey who said America needed to get on the Metric system. Now this candidate is fun because they were known for something they had done earlier and then return to the public eye to try and lead the country. This includes Marco Rubio and Ben Carson. Marco Rubio in 2013 gave the Republican response to the State of the Union address. Whether he did well in that speech was not important. The important thing was that randomly during the speech he leaned over and took a drink of water. This speech was joke fodder for weeks following the speech. What no one expected was for Marco Rubio to return 2 years later and run a respectable presidential campaign. Ben Carson was famous for being the first Neuro surgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins; and in 2015 he ran for president. He did well in the pools for a couple weeks, but after the Oregon Shooting he said what the victims should have done (not the most sensitive thing to do after a mass shooting) causing a dive in his polls. Doctors sometimes refer to Addison s disease as the illness of chronic adrenal insufficiency, or also called hypocortisolism. The adrenal glands are located just above the kidneys. Being part of the endocrine system, the adrenal glands produce hormones that give instructions to almost every organ and tissue in the body. The adrenal glands are made up of two different sections. The interior (medulla) which produces hormones similar to adrenaline. The (cortex) outer layer has the role of producing a group of hormones that are called corticosteroids; these include mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids and the male sex hormones known as (androgens). Addison s disease takes place when the cortex is damaged and does not produce hormones in adequate quantities. Doctors often refer to this condition that involves damage to the adrenal glands as a primary adrenal insufficiency. When the adrenal glands fail to produce adrenocortical hormones it is commonly a result of an autoimmune disease where the body is attacking itself. During exercise energy comes from Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). There are 3 energy systems, these are glycolysis, phosphocreatine (ATP CP) and the aerobic system. During short term intense activities a large amount of power needs to be produced by the muscles creating a high demand for ATP. The phosphagen system (ATP CP system) is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997. Once pyruvate is formed, it has two fates: conversion to lactate or conversion into metabolic intermediary molecule called acetyl co enzyme A (acetyl CoA), and this enters the mitochondria for oxidation and the production of more ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997. Conversion to lactate occurs when the demand for oxygen is greater than the supply, so for example during anaerobic exercise. Conversely, when there is enough oxygen available to meet the muscles needs, pyruvate, via the acetyl CoA) enters the mitochondria and goes through the aerobic metabolism. When oxygen is not supplied fast enough to meet the muscles needs (anaerobic glycolysis), there is an increase in hydrogen ions, this causes the muscle pH to decrease; a condition called acidosis, and other metabolites ADP, P and potassium ions. Acidosis and the accumulation of these other metabolites cause a number of problems inside the muscles, including inhibition of specific enzymes involved in metabolism and muscle contraction, inhibition of the release of calcium, this is the trigger for muscle contraction, from its storage in muscles, and interference with the muscles electrical charges, Enoka Stuart 1992; Glaister 2005; McLester 1997. Gender And Sexual Issues Among Men And Women There are certain assumptions made by society that are likely to make a women accused of witch craft such as social status, age, and marital status. It is clear that the gender and sexual issues among men and women are a contribution towards those who were punished for witch craft. Women who were blamed for witchcraft had very little sway to change the minds of others once that seed was planted. Even though a woman may be poor or even unmarried these were characteristics that made a woman more likely to be an easy target to blame mishaps on. A woman s social status stemmed from popular misogyny and the ideals that men expected from them. For example during the fifteenth century Dominican reform movement they promoted celibacy in woman. A woman s sexuality was thought of in the same way as Virgin Mary so they equated sin and death and if a women did not fit into this religious picture she was most likely to be accused of witch craft. Constant imagery is used to paint this theme into the readers head, The children caper round a sprung mousetrap where a mouse lies dead. When the soft corpse won t move they seem afraid, (stanza one, line ten). Symbolisation is also used to counteract the miserable life of an Australian housewife. • 32. Harry Potter Betrayal From Julius Caesar s twenty three stab wounds to Gatsby s disloyal love, the importance of the cruel act of betrayal in literature has long been discussed. Perhaps less historically, betrayal has also appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and loyalty within the wizarding community. However, betrayal also shows itself in acts of love and bravery in Rowling s beloved series. In the Harry Potter books betrayals are used to reveal truths about characters, represent development, and uphold the belief held within all seven of the books: that we are defined by the choices that we make. Within the Harry Potter series, betrayals are often used to show sides of characters that we might not have otherwise seen. With the first wizarding war in full swing Lily and James Potter (in hiding from Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters) are betrayed by their close friend Peter Pettigrew. As their secret keeper it is his responsibility to protect them to his own death. Instead he goes against the traits of his house, bravery and chivalry, by betraying them. Literature Review Conflict and the Effects Conflict can be defined as a struggle between people with opposing needs, ideas, beliefs, values, or goals (Understanding Conflict and Conflict Management). When conflict occurs in the workplace, it can reduce moral, lower productivity, increase absenteeism, and can ultimately lead to serious or violent crimes (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). Studies show that managers spend at least 25% of their time resolving workplace conflict (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). Productivity of managers and employees are affected by the amount of conflict they experience on a day to day basis. How much people are affected by different conflicts can be dependent on their personal conflict style. Each individual personality will handle a given situation in a different way. Sources of Conflict The first step to addressing any conflict is defining what the actual conflict is. The range of a conflict can be something very minor to a large conflict that affects an entire department or the whole workplace. It is important to understand and be able to identify the different levels of conflict and how they may manifest in order to manage people (Workplaces that Work).
