Stereotypes Of The Social Norms In The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory is a television show that is about the lives of four scientists and their next
door neighbor. These four men are Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj. Each of these men have
had a successful career in the sciences while their next door neighbor and the love interest of
Leonard is a waitress that is struggling to be an actress. The other two women that come later in
the series Amy and Bernadette are also in the science field, but are viewed in a completely different
manner. The Big BangTheory has many instances where the characters are sexist and are
stereotypes of the social norm. Stereotypes are shown in all three of the women in the show. Amy

For example, many characters make fun of Raj and Howard s close relationship. Leonard s mom
labels their actions as gay and that they should stop it. This implies that being homosexual is
something to be ashamed of. Also, throughout the first season Raj admires Howard s flirting
abilities with women. This shows that there is a pride in heterosexual interactions. Homosexuality
is under represented in the show due to the abundance of heterosexual relationships. This is shown
when Sheldon has no interest in any relationship; however, the group tries to set him up and the
people that they tried setting him up with turn out to be women. The show labels men in a close
friendship as homosexual. This stereotype is unjust due to the fact that individuals can have a
close relationship like Raj and Howard and not consider themselves a part of the LGBTQ

Aristole s View on Drama
Preamble
Drama is an aspect of literature represented in performances and has been a part of the world for
many decades. Drama originated in classical Greece around the fifth century B.C. The earliest
performances took place in amphitheaters, which the Greeks invented to incorporate plays in their
religious and civic festivals. These Greek festivals were huge theatrical events filled with three
days of drama. The structure of the amphitheater allowed for an audience of thousands to observe
the theatrics and watch as the actors vie to win the drama competition. In addition, ancient Greek
theater used dramas to relay moral and political messages to their communities.
There are two different categories of drama: comedy and tragedy. Greek ... Show more content on

Shakespeare is said to have shaped the beginnings of modern day culture through his tragic plays by
introducing man as the tragic hero rather than the Gods. Although both Miller and Shakespeare
have modified the classic Greek tragedies in this manner they still fulfill Aristotle s definition of
tragedy in many ways.
Aristotle Vs Othello and Death of a Salesman Shakespeare s protagonist, Othello and Miller s
protagonist, Willy Lowman are both considered the tragic heroes in the play. Othello is a moor
and a general in Venetian army. He is experienced in battle and valued by the people. Since he is
this well respected military leader, the people listened and cared about what he had to say. One
instance of his high regard can be seen when one of the senators said, Here comes Barbantio and
the valiant Moor , (Act I scene 3). With Othello overcoming racist Venice and managing to gain
this high status in the community, Aristotle s first requirement for a tragic hero is fulfilled.
However, many would argue that in Millers play, Willy Lowman s character stretches the
definition of a tragic hero. Since Willy Lowman was a mere salesman struggling to seize the
American dream he would definitely not be considered a man of high status. Although Willy
Lowman did hold one honorable position and that was head of the household. This is illustrated
during a conversation that Willy s wife Linda has with their son Biff. Linda Says No. You can t

Epic Of Gilgamesh Flood Analysis
Stories are often used to teach a certain lesson or encourage certain behavior within a culture. Both
the Tale of the Flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh and the story of the flood from the Old Testament
exhibit these intentions.
In the Tale of the Flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh , Utnapishtim was instructed by the godEa to
build a large boat to save himself, his family, and the seed of all living things . Utnapishtim was
given this instruction because the gods were angry with mankind and were planning to send a
flood to destroy all living beings, save those on Utnapishtim s boat. After it has rained for many
days, the boat lands on a mountain, and Utnapishtim sends out a dove, a swallow, and a raven to
find dry land. The god Ishtar then creates a rainbow and places it in the sky to serve as a promise
to mankind and a reminder to the gods that there would never be a flood such as that again. This
story is intended to demonstrate the power of the gods and warn all people that they should not
act as the men before the flood did. The rainbow serves as a promise that the earth will never again
be flooded, but it does not promise that mankind will never again be punished for their behavior.
The story of the flood from the Old Testament is very similar to the Tale of the Flood, and serves
nearly the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the most noteworthy difference is the power from above. In the Epic of Gilgamesh
version, there are many gods. In the Old Testament version there is only one god. This serves as
strong evidence that these tales were based on the same original story, whether one believes it to be
a true historical event or simply a fable. The differences in the tales are then explained by the
differences in the religious cultures telling the stories. The religion of the Sumerian people placed
value and symbolism on different things than Christianity

Rhythm And Blues Research Paper
In 1946, the American entertainment industry grew at a substantially rapid rate. The cause of this
was the Post World War II economic expansion. The Postwar era was filled with many different
genres, and talented artists. It is argued to be one the most multifaceted, and dynamic eras in the
history of American popular music. In the midst of the complexity, two women emerged into the
genre of Rhythm and Blues. Ruth Brown, also known as Miss Rhythm, was one of the biggest
stars in the postwar era. She started at a young age, singing in two sectors of black church
tradition. She sang in the AME (African Methodist) and Baptist denominations. I attended a
fundraiser at the Redeemer Fellowship church in Kansas City and listened as the choir sang their
gospels. The song Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean, was Ruth Brown s biggest hit and it does
not sound similar to any of the gospels sang in the church.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Her parents did not approve of this. When she was a teenager, she would lie to her mother and
her father, telling them that she was going to choir rehearsal while she would actually go off to
perform for the military at USO shows. At only 17, she finally left home to join Jimmy Brown s
band. She later married him, only to find out he had previously been married to another woman.
However, since her last name had been commonly known as brown, she decided it was best to
stick with it. At this point, Brown was unwelcome at her family home. She struggled to find work
living in Detroit and eventually being stranded in Washington D.C. She then was offered regular
employment at Crystal Cavern s nightclub. One night, radio host Willis Conover heard Brown
talent. He later signed her to Atlantic Records, where she would later make her debut performance

The Causes And Impacts Of British Petroleum
On April 20, 2010, British Petroleum s (BP) offshore drilling rig, the Deepwater Horizon,
exploded and caused the largest accidental marine oil spill in history, discharging five million
barrels of oil into the ocean over a period of three months. During this accident, eleven men
working on the oil rig perished and seventeen others were injured severely. This crisis caused major
destruction to marine wildlife caused economic harm on fishing and tourism industries and was a
public relations nightmare for British Petroleum(Crandall, Parnell Spillan, 2013). This event was
horrendous; I remember the devastation that was left in the wake of this tragedy.
Beginning in the 1980 s, offshore oil production showed to be a solution for the United States
energy issues and national security. In the beginning, the wells were in shallow water, but once
these wells were dry, drilling in the deeper water began. Although there were drawbacks, such as
the difficulty to drill and operate a well at such tremendous depths and because of these depths
robots would have to troubleshoot maintenance problems instead of humans. Additionally, in
deep waters, special drilling rigs are needed. There are two types of drilling rigs, the drillship,
and the semi submersible. The Deepwater Horizon was a semi submersible rig that was used to
excavate the well on the Macondo slope in the Gulf of Mexico. Once the excavation was done,
another rig would arrive to extract the oil. Companies like British

To Kill A Mockingbird Urban Legends
Urban Legends
Legend says that if someone says the name Bloody Mary three times into a mirror, that she will
magically appear in the room and scratch their face off. Of course this legend is not true, but
people would tell this story and through fear, make others believe that it was. Urban legends
such as Bloody Mary date all the back to the 1930 s, around the same time where the book To Kill
A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was set. In the book, the people of Maycomb, Alabama use Boo
Radley, a character in the book who was sentenced to house arrest, as an urban legend. They spread
rumors about him and say many crazy things that people would not normally believe. However,
since the people are so scared of Boo Radley, they do. From the 1930 s ... Show more content on

In today s society, whenever there is something that people do not understand, they create an urban
legend to try and explain it, such as aliens or the Illuminati. Nobody knows if these legends are
true or not but most people believe it because it gives people a sense of fulfillment to have an
explanation for everything. In To Kill A Mockingbird however, everything that could not be
explained was pinned on Boo Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo
Radley so the children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a
half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that
s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became fixated on Boo Radley, mainly
because the adults never spoke about him, so they created all of these rumors about him and
whenever anything crazy happened, it always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of
the book when Scout meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard
about him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus replies by
telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee 376). Even though people
use urban legends to explain things, that does not mean that the legends are necessarily true. If
people actually searched for the truth behind these legends instead of falling back on

Reality Shows And The Reality Of Reality Television,...
Nowadays, there is a wide selection of reality shows, which audiences can pick and watch. The
reason why there are so many different types of reality shows is due to the expansion of the
broadcasting industry and the need to ingratiate the taste of the public. Although most people will
agree the term reality shows is used to identify shows that have arisen since the 21st century, the
appearance of reality televisionshows actually emerged earlier than everyone thought. For
example, Allen Funt s Candid Camera, which was the first reality show in the United States, arose
in 1948 wherein real people respond to funny pranks or unusual situations for the first time ever
under hidden cameras (Beck 6). Apart from the entertainment reality shows, non fictional
entertainment shows such as documentaries about ordinary people, quiz and game shows also
appeared during the 1990s (Beck 4). Therefore, the aim for people to watch reality shows at that
time is entertainment and education. Yet, as time progresses, distinct subgenres of reality shows
such as the makeover shows, celebrity reality shows as well as dating shows developed in the 21st
century and the realness of reality shows has become controversial. The authenticity of reality
shows has become debatable not only because of these people are oftentimes getting paid to be
filmed on camera, but also because exaggerations of manliness, beauty, and wealth are often
portrayed in these programs, thus causing audiences to consider them

allocation was negative. Prior to FY03 the allocation was made as a net of all three investment
earning components and the pool kept a net asset value of $1.00. Market values did not fluctuate as
a result. The portfolio was bifurcated in FY03 with one portfolio having a longer duration than the

Captain Cook, Dracula and Whitby Abbey have each played a part in Whitby s fame and
prosperity. Captain Cook s association with Whitby began in 1746 when he became a merchant
navy apprentice with Quaker shipowners, John and Henry Walker, ferrying coal between the
North East and London. The Captain Cook Memorial Museum is in a seventeenth century house
in Grape Lane on the harbourside. According to long standing Whitby tradition, this is where
Cook lodged during his apprenticeship when he was not at sea. (For more on Captain Cook see

so there s no need to count them! The stairway leads to the East Cliff and St. Mary s Church
where there are panoramic views back over Whitby. The Abbey ruins stand next to St Mary s

Covenants And The Roles Of Profit, Priest, And King
Covenants and the Roles of Profit, Priest, and King in Organizational Management
There are 6 major covenants in the Bible, Adam and Eve, pre flood Noah, post flood Noah,
Abrahamic, Moses, and Jesus, with multiple themes of salvation, Messiah, and grace. Each are
promises between God and His people and have four common elements; a benefactor; God, a
beneficiary; man, terms and conditions, and a token or symbol.
Significance and Meaning of a Covenant
To provide a better appreciation of the Bible, a definition of covenant is necessary. A covenant is
a serious life or death affair. It is a relationship; a sacred agreement between God and all humanity.
It is how God chooses to communicate to us, to redeem us, and to guarantee us eternal life in Jesus.
When God created man, he appeared in His image. Man was physically complete; yet spiritually
incomplete. God s plan for salvation was predetermined and calls all people to receive the Holy
Spirit to grow and become spiritually complete (Fountain, 2014) . Expand a bit!!
Messiah Promised: The Old TestamentGenesis 9:13, I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it
will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. In Old Testament times God initiated and
offered an agreement or covenant between Him and one nation, Israel. Entrance into this covenant
was by physical, natural birth (Gen. 17:9 10). These biblical covenants were in effect during the
time before Jesus death, burial, and resurrection. They were

These ammendents included, among other things, the introduction of a non union/collective
bargaining system in the form of Enterprise Flexibility Agreements. The intention of the 1993
Industrial Relations Reform Act, for example, was to make enterprise bargaining the main process
for determining wages and other conditions of employment. Awards continued to provide effective
regulation for employees who were not enjoying the benefits of enterprise bargaining, even if
award wages rose slowly and fell well behind wage increases in enterprise agreements (Bray etc al,
2006). The Business Council of Australia s strong support for enterprise bargaining and for a
weakened role for arbitration tribunals gradually became the mainstream position among most
Australian employers, even among those who had previously supported centralized bargaining
(Thornthwaite and Sheldon, 1996). This was the first time in history, in which the unions were
excluded from having any involvement in all forms of agreement in relations to employment
conditions in the federal jurisdiction. It was at the time of this introduction that it became evident
that these agreements would allow employers to begin to de unionise their operations and to
accelerate their move towards a non union status. The most radical industrial relations reforms of
the past 20 or so years was brought in soon after the election of the Howard government in 1996.

Despite al DawДЃnД«qД« s threat, al б№ўДЃdiq designated his son, IsmaКїil, as his successor and

Justice In Dante s Inferno
Renowned poet Dante Alighieri lived in a tempestuous political and religious era. Fourteenth
century Italy was riddled with political factions, most notably the Guelphs and Ghibellines, which
were constantly engaged in conflict. This ongoing political and religious upheaval would
eventually lead to Dante s exile from Florence. After his banishment, Dante wrote The Divine
Comedy, an epic poem that sets up a flawless system of punishment, redemption and salvation. This
retributive structure, most readily apparent in the Inferno , heavily contrasts with the imperfect
earthly one that failed Dante. Although the primary message of the poem appears to be religious,
the Inferno gives insight into how Dante was making an inherently political statement.... Show more

The Black Guelphs came about from treachery in the form of a White cutting themselves off from
the rest of the faction and joining up with the religious fanatics who supported the corruption of

due to the fact that he supposedly stole money for his own personal gain (Harrison 2). Dante s
harsh condemnation of traitors of any nationality or religion may be seen as his way of attempting
to prove that he would never commit an act that

Literary Devices In A Doll s House
Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
In A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen was created during 1800s time period. This play helps shine a
light on the gender roles of the 1800s while also creating a twist that was uncommon for this
period. During this time period, women were left home to oversee the domestic duties, while men
went to commuted to work (Hughes). Men were seen as physically superior but morally inferior to
women; which is also portrayed within this book (Hughes). This play marks the beginning of
Henrik Ibsen s realist period, which he explored the ordinary lives of small town people (Kirszner
and Mandell 881). This modern tragedy helped make Ibsen famous internationally because of the
real life story it captured (Kirszner and Mandell 882). Henrik Ibsen uses an array of literary
devices to help keep the reader captivated from beginning to end. Three of the most prominent
literary devices used by Henrik Ibsen are symbolism, foreshadowing, and an array of themes. These
literary devices help transform a basic play into a complex story of lies and deception.
Symbolism is used a lot within in the play and is a figure of speech that is used when an author
wants to create a certain mood or emotion in a work of literature (What is Symbolism in
Literature?). Majority of A Doll House is filled with symbolism that creates an intense emotion for
the reader. The setting of the play is around Christmas Day and is approaching New Year s Day.
This holds a lot of symbolism

Soft Drink and Coca Cola
Coca Cola s New Vending Machine (A) Case Questions
1. Is selling Coke through interactive vending machines a good or bad idea? Explain your
answer. It is a good idea to sell Coke through interactive vending machines. Over the last three
years, the soft drinking giants have watched their earnings erode as they waged a price war in
supermarkets. Vending machines have remained largely untouched by the discounting. Sales of
soft drinks from vending machines have risen steadily over the last few years, though most sales
still take place in supermarkets. Last year, about 11.9 percent of soft drink sales worldwide were
from vending machines. Vending machines require low cost for companies. Company can just

Therefore, it will only add value to the product for them when it is cold. Overall, brand switchers
will benefit the most from this technology as they can buy Coca Cola when it is cheaper and switch
to an alternative when it is more expensive. 4. Are there any price related issues that can
adversely affect the firm? Price Wars Coca Cola needs to consider the risk of price wars if this
technology is introduced because the ability to discount prices so easily could cause
competitors to continually lower prices, specifically at holidays. Price Discrimination: This
means, selling the same good to different groups of buyers at different prices . Price
discrimination is used most through the internet because it so much easier to change prices and
know information about the consumers buying behaviors so they can raise or lower the price
accordingly meaning that they are not sacrificing profits but increasing economic efficiency.
Therefore with Coke, those consumers that drink on hot days will be worse of since they have
to pay a higher price, while those that drink on cold days will be better of. Consequently, sales in
hotter countries could decrease as a result of charging high prices. It will only be a success if the
difference between prices are not explicitly known. Otherwise Price discrimination could harm
Coca Cola s brand image of being consumer friendly. 5. What did Coke do right? What did Coke do
wrong? How would

(Nguyen) and are especially inclined to trust labels (GruГЁre, Carter and Farzin). Through
labelling law, government is also able to impose foodstandards on products. An extensive set of
rules to govern every possible category of food product is used and adhered to in the food
inspection process. Food labelling itself is mainly tied to issues of health and safety and consumer
rights, but has also recently been involved in trade relations (which will not be... Show more content

New guidelines have eliminated this practice. However, companies choose to label products
Made in Canada from Domestic and Imported Ingredients instead of labelling all the country
origins of their ingredients. An example is in the meat industry. Foreign animals imported into
Canada but slaughtered and/or processed here still qualify for Made in Canada labels, in fact, only
pre processed and packaged imported meat requires a country of origin label (Weeks).
This is admittedly the most practical option for processed food products comprising many
ingredients, but can also be taken as an attempt to hide the true origin of ingredients from the
consumer to prevent any bias in selection. Companies stand to lose sales if they reveal all the
sources of their ingredients for several reasons. Consumers may have patriotic sympathies and
prefer domestic goods. They may also have a bias towards certain countries, perhaps for political or
environmental reasons (e.g. whether the food was produced sustainably) (Boyd), and may even
doubt the quality of ingredients coming from lesser developed countries.
There is additional confusion (for consumers) in the difference between Made in Canada and
Product of Canada labels. Consumers tend to equate the two, but they are in fact very different.

The Seven Dispensations In The Bible
The seven dispensations are not explicitly stated in the Bible. Instead they are a Biblical
interpretation that divides the history of mankind into seven different categories. There are
different versions or interpretations of the seven dispensations, but I will explain the general
understanding that is commonly accepted. The seven dispensations are: the dispensation of
innocence, the dispensation of conscience, the dispensation of human government, the dispensation
of promise, the dispensation of law, the dispensation of grace, and the millennial kingdom of
Christ. The first dispensation, innocence, begins with the creation of man (Genesis 1:27) and ends
with the fall of man (Genesis 3). This dispensation is called innocence because Adam, the first
man, was created innocent and without knowledge of good and evil. Adam was given the authority
to rule over everything of the earth, under one condition: Adam and Eve must not eat from the tree
of the knowledge of good and evil.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The time period of this dispensation is 1,000 years. The responsibilities of the resurrected Old
Testament saints, glorified church, and survivors of the tribulation will be to remain obedient,

peace, justice, unity, abundance, healing, righteousness, and joy during the 1,000 year reign of
Jesus on earth and satan will be locked up in the abyss unable to escape. (The Seven

The Social Responsibility Of A Business
MF believed that a business itself cannot have any social responsibility. Only the people who own
or are affiliated with the business can have any form of social responsibly. His article, A Friedman

for a businesss corporate executive. The corporate executive is the employee of the business owner
and, therefore, is directly responsible to them. Friedman states that the corporate executive s

Porter and Kramer take a very different stance on this topic. They believe that there is a very real
and strong link between CSR and competitive analysis. The modern world ranks businesses on
their CSR and directs a significant amount of publicity towards companies who are focused on the
health and welfare of their customers and the earth. The traditional mindset concerning CSR puts
business and society at odds, when in reality they are interdependent and reliant on each other.
Porter Kramer think that antiquated thoughts about CSR have pressured businesses into thinking
that there is an only one generic approach to CSR. This one size fits all mindset does not actually

Silica aerogels are transparent, highly porous substances consisting of tiny spheres of bonded

Susan B. Anthony was born February 15, 1820 and raised in very religious household. She first

but for many other women s rights. Susan B. Anthony should be a historical figure due to the
fact that she went through so much suffering. In which she fought for the women s right to vote
and as well as gender equality. Not only did she just fight for women s right but as well to get rid
of alcohol and did not support slavery by campaigning against them. People look down on her
and despise her due to the reasoning that she voted illegally and took matter in to her own hands
and was put into prison for it. Which cause women to get more hate and not receive their equal

Energy Conservation at Home
What is energy ? Where does it come from? And how do we pay for it? When you learn the
answers to these questions, you can also learn how to live more efficiently in your home. In this
article, we ll discuss how to be smart about how you use energy, how to know when to turn
electrical power on and off, and how to use natural gas, propane, and fuel oil in the most effective
way.
Basic Concepts of Energy Efficiency
You can make a lot of progress toward improving the energy efficiency in your home by simply
plugging the many places through which air can get in or get out. Plugging your home is called air
sealing, and it is one of the most important first steps to take when weatherizing your house to
increase its energy efficiency.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His line of reasoning was that, by reducing the temperature in our homes, we could conserve heating
fuel.
President Carter s words of nearly 30 years ago still ring true today: The best way to conserve
energy is to not use so much of it. And one of the best ways of reducing the use of heating fuel in
the home is to simply turn down the thermostat.
Because space heating constitutes the largest energy expenditure in many homes, even a little
conservation of heating fuel goes a long way toward achieving a lower utility bill. Dialing down
the thermostat one degree during the winter can result in about 1 to 3 percent less fuel use, and a
similar reduction in your heating bill.
A furnace or boiler has to maintain a differential in temperature between the inside of the house
and the outdoors in order for the house to feel comfortable. On cold days that difference can be
as much as 50 to 60 degrees (say, 20 outside and 70 inside). Any time the differential can be
reduced, even by a degree or two, the heating system comes on less often, less fuel is burned, and
savings result. The downside of turning down a thermostat, of course, is that the house is cooler.
But Carter had a solution for that simply slip on a sweater. That makes sense, too. Instead of
turning up the heat to increase the overall warmth in the huge volume of space inside the house, you
can simply increase your personal insulation to help retain

The Effects Of Genetical Modified Organisms ( Gmo )
Genetical Modified Organisms (GMO s) are created when scientists manipulate an organism s
genes to create a new strain of species with similarities but also differences from the original
species. Zika is spread through a type of mosquito called Aedes aegypti also known as yellow
fever mosquito. These mosquitos originated from Africa and came to the United States through
ships. The mosquitos tend to stay in tropical and sub tropical parts of the world including
Argentina to the southern parts of the United States. These mosquitos go through a complete life
cycle going from egg to larva to pupa to an adult and the life cycle in all takes about 6 weeks to
complete. The Aedes aegyptimosquitois known for carrying yellow feverand now Zika which is
why scientists are trying to genetically modify them to no longer carry these diseases ( Yellow
Fever Mosquito .). GMO s are being used to help contain the spread of Zika and other mosquito
held diseases around the world. Zika was first discovered in mosquitos around 1948 in Africa.
Since its discovery Zika has developed from a mild illness to something that can cause severe
neurological complications in those who have been infected (Musso, et al.,,2016). The increase
numbers of people being effected by Zika and the increase in risks associated with the disease
have led to a curiosity of using GMO s to contain the disease.
The pros of using genetically modified mosquitos to fight Zika are the Zika carrying mosquito

The Implications of Facebook Becoming The World s Social Network and Telephone Book
Introduction The next twelve months are pivotal for Facebook globally as the company faces
significant challenges to its growth as both a worldwide social network and first location online
people look to connect with one another. In many respects, Facebook is becoming more like a
virtual phone book that can be used for quickly connecting with someone known in the past, just

Facebook both as a global social network and virtual phone book, in addition to large scale
implications for social change based on the pervasive adoption of this social networking

Emma s View Of Love
Emma Bovary allows herself to be destroyed by the people she encounters and her obsession
with falling in love. Emma is not happy with herself and her relationship so she looks for other
people to fill the void. Emma never really realizes that she is the root of all of the troubles in her
life. If she were more in touch with reality, she would realize that she needs to work on herself
before blaming her love interests for not being like the men that she has read about in the past.
Emma has a very unrealistic perception of love. Emma is unable to fall in love with anyone
because she will always be dissatisfied. She destroyed her own marriage before it even started
because of her preconceived idea of love. Charles is absolutely in love with Emma and would do

Anemia Decreases the Number of Red Blood Cells Essay
Anemia is a blood condition with decreasing number of red blood cells (RBC) or less than normal
levels of hemoglobin (an essential protein that carries oxygen to your tissues and organs) in the
blood. Anemia usually occurs when individual does not have enough red blood cells the cells that
transport hemoglobin(Hb) throughout your body. [4]
Iron deficiency anemia is a common form of anemia that occurs if person does not have sufficient
iron in body. Without enough iron your body starts using the iron it has stored. Soon, the stored
iron gets used. After the stored iron is used, your body makes fewer red blood cells. The red blood
cells it does make have less hemoglobin than normal. [4]

Anemia is a common comorbidity in HF is associated with increased disease severity and also
contributes to a worse outcome. The mechanism through which anemia contributes to negative
outcome in chronic HF patients is multifactorial and complex. Important factors include, bone
marrow resistance to erythropoietin, renal failure, chronic inflammation, medication use and
hematinic deficiencies, in particular iron deficiency (ID). Generally, the presence of ID is only
considered clinically relevant in the presence of anemia. However, a decreased hemoglobin
levels can be viewed as the end result of a process beginning with gradual depletion of iron stores.
Even if patients are not anemic, ID already may be common in chronic HF, with or without
anemia, is associated with decreased aerobic performance and exercise intolerance, recently also
shown in chronic HF. [5]
Anemia is an independent factor in mortality in people with chronic heart failure. Anemia, or a
low level of hemoglobin in the blood, is much linked to heart disease because the heart has to
work harder to pump more blood and oxygen through the body [4]. Iron deficiency in heart failure
can be due to a number of factors, it may be caused by a lack of nutrients in a person s diet or by
the body s inability to absorb nutrients from food. Heart failure can also cause a back up of fluid

lines of business for the purpose of obtaining credit. This allows companies to extend their business
gambles to other legal forms largely other companies in different degrees and forms through share
buyouts or incorporation of subsidiaries. Secondly, limited liability minimizes risks for the
investors: Since modern governments want to see enterprise flourish, they attach great value to
business. However because business involves potential risks, limited liability comes in as a
motivation in case of failure and potentially attracts as many people into business through becoming
a contracting tool and financing device and investors are certain that their personal assets are safe

How Did Immigration Changed British Culture
Immigration changed British culture in the nineteen fifties; from the beat of the music to the spice
of traditional British food. Britishness couldn t be viewed as racial inheritance any longer,
especially in such a multicultural society. Newcomers were not always accepted by British people;
racismwas a huge issue for many; very often neighbourhoods were offended by the arrival of large
groups of immigrants. Olga Atkins an immigrant from the West Indies accounts that some people
might say it was a racial issue, but I would say it was an ignorance issue. I ve had things done to
me personally that was discrimination. I ve had people spit in my face; I ve had people call me

Troon also invested in multifunctional security platform instead of investing on single point
solutions which helped them to cater their facilities on that (security) platform. With the passage of
time they realized a substantial savings in cost juxtaposing the increment in their security. (Hills,
2008)
Total Cost of Ownership actually helps managers to understand the breakdown costs of IT
infrastructure. I think that overall,l it depends upon how you implement the tool of total cost of
ownership to get the exact or the nearest advantage of reducing the overall costs because sometimes
labor costs associated with IT outweigh the actual investment made. (Saunders,

Rules And Controls In Anthem By Ayn Rand
Anthem s Society Anthem is a book written by Ayn Rand and is about a boy who lives in a
future society where there are numerous rules and controls which keep people in line. It is
forbidden to be alone therefore everyone is required to say plural pronouns and it is illegal to say
personal pronouns. In real life, the present is the past in anthem and is called the unmentionable
times. The extensive rules may be present because of what the people of the unmentionable times
has done to the Earth like pollution or destroying other life on Earth so the new society was created
to fix this and create a new population which would not pollute the Earth and destroy the wildlife as
much as their counterparts from the unmentionable times. The main character... Show more content

The rule of never being alone would affect the generations by never having people be able to do
things by themselves and let everyone be lazier by doing only half of their work, because there
is always another person to do the rest. The controls would make the future generation s minds
to think that everything is ok and start to obey the leaders therefore creating a generation of,
technically, slaves which would whatever you want them to do and this is cruel and they
should be able to do what they want, go where they want, and see what they want. The
generations ahead could be physically changed too by being more skinny and less strong,
because all they do is eat, work, and sleep which could affect the brain and other organs to not
work properly due to the lack of nutrients and exercise. In the society of many rules and controls
almost everyone is short and small due to the lack of activities they do Ever have the Teachers
and the Leaders pointed to us and frowned and said: There is evil in your bones, Equality 7 2521,
for your body has grown beyond the bodies of your brothers. (Rand 18) Overall the effect of
including these rules and controls would prove to be bad for the future

How Did Atticus Protests The Jim Crow Laws In To Kill A...
The author of To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee, protests the Jim Crow Laws in a lot of ways.
She uses characters such as Atticus to protest the laws. Lee doesn t directly state in the story that
she is protesting the laws. The way she wrote the story you can insist that she is going against
racism. Harper Lee wrote the book in the time of the Jim Crow Laws came about. In To Kill A
Mockingbird,Harper Lee uses the trial against Tom Robinson that Atticus must tackle, the lessons
that Atticus wants his children to learn about treating people with equality, and the controversial
character of Dolphus Raymond to protest the Jim Crow Laws. Harper Lee protests the Jim Crow
Laws in To Kill A Mockingbird by having Atticus defend a black man in court. Atticus defends a
black man in court during the time the Jim Crow Laws surfaced. In the Jim Crow Laws, a black
man should never accuse a white person of lying. Also, the Jim Crow Laws separate blacks and
whites from interacting. Atticus and Tom Robinson go against this by having a case to defend...

calling. He teaches them through his actions and by talking to them after situations happened.
Atticus wants his children to be different and not treat others differently because of their race
especially because of the time they were in. The Jim Crow Laws were laws that discriminated
blacks. Since Atticus decided to defend Tom Robinson, a black man, Jem and Scout had many
encounters with people in their town. Atticus was called a nigger lover by Scout and Jem
cousin. She knew the term nigger lover wasn t a nice term and this wasn t the first time somebody

The Understanding of Jesus Christ
Throughout history, there is a copious amount of notable figures who were able to change the
world around them. Jesus Christ, after his crucifixion, left an imprint on the human race with the
establishment of Christianity and the spread of his beliefs through his followers. His
accomplishments that were recorded in the Gospels will continue through the ages, spreading his
wisdom and way of thinking. Even though it would beneficial for believers to truly fathom his
significance to history and the human soul, challenges ascend that hold its effectiveness back.
To better understand Jesus Christ, agreements needed to be made between Christians to prevent ...

While the Councils of Nicea and Chalcedon allow for a more elucidated understand of Christ, the
reality of other factors inhibits its full potential. There are factors that exist which produce the
opposite effect. Several issues, including history, philosophy, and language, impede the attempt to
better apprehend Jesus Christ. In regards to the issue with history, there is an inverse relationship
between the desire for Jesus history with the current amount of information that humanity has
recorded of him. For a religious figure who has left an immeasurable amount of influence onto
mankind with his abilities, interactions with others, humility, and ultimate sacrifice, procuring more
knowledge on this being would a great benefit to Christological studies. There would be no amount
of books large enough to contain the knowledge of the Messiah s actions that are not already
detailed (O Collins 2). This unquantifiable yearning for learning is unfortunately contrasted with the
amount of detailed information on him currently available after nearly two millennia. There are not
many details that the world knows about Jesus Christ since he left no letters or other personal
documents (O Collins 2). Not a lot of information is known about the Redeemer before he
established his public ministry

Onychomycosis Research Paper
Nail fungus or onychomycosis is the whitening or yellowing of the nail that causes the nail to
crumble or thicken at the edge as the fungus goes deeper into the nail. Nail fungus may also cause
discoloration and can either occur in the finger or toe nails. Once a fungus is identified, it is
recommended that nailfungus treatment be administered immediately. If the fungus is caught in the
early stages, home remedies and over the counter drugs can be used; however, if the fungus is a
prolonged condition, more drastic measures will need to be taken and surgery may be your only
solution.
Types of nail fungus
To determine the best nail fungus treatment for your condition, it is good to know the different
types of nail fungus in order for you to know what you need to treat. Some infections of the ... Show

If this is not recommended, your doctor may do the work himself and debride or thin the nail with
the appropriate tools.
Prescribed nail polish
A specific nail polish that is prescribed for fingernail fungus treatment and toenail fungus
treatment is known as ciclopirox. This treatment is applied similarly to medicated creams;
however, it is painted on to the nails and applied just as you do regular nail polish. It is applied
once a day directly to the nail and infected areas. This is done for seven consecutive days and
should be wiped clean with alcohol on the seventh day and a new application process begins for
seven more days; a cycle which must be continued for the course prescribed by your doctors. This
treatment may continue for up to one year.
Surgical options
If your infection has gotten to be so severe where other treatment options cannot cure it, your
doctor may recommend that you have a surgical procedure or other invasive procedures to combat
the issue. These procedures may be either in the form of nail a removal surgery, light base or laser

  • 2. Stereotypes Of The Social Norms In The Big Bang Theory The Big Bang Theory is a television show that is about the lives of four scientists and their next door neighbor. These four men are Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj. Each of these men have had a successful career in the sciences while their next door neighbor and the love interest of Leonard is a waitress that is struggling to be an actress. The other two women that come later in the series Amy and Bernadette are also in the science field, but are viewed in a completely different manner. The Big BangTheory has many instances where the characters are sexist and are stereotypes of the social norm. Stereotypes are shown in all three of the women in the show. For example, many characters make fun of Raj and Howard s close relationship. Leonard s mom labels their actions as gay and that they should stop it. This implies that being homosexual is something to be ashamed of. Also, throughout the first season Raj admires Howard s flirting abilities with women. This shows that there is a pride in heterosexual interactions. Homosexuality is under represented in the show due to the abundance of heterosexual relationships. This is shown when Sheldon has no interest in any relationship; however, the group tries to set him up and the people that they tried setting him up with turn out to be women. The show labels men in a close friendship as homosexual. This stereotype is unjust due to the fact that individuals can have a close relationship like Raj and Howard and not consider themselves a part of the LGBTQ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Aristole s View on Drama Preamble Drama is an aspect of literature represented in performances and has been a part of the world for many decades. Drama originated in classical Greece around the fifth century B.C. The earliest performances took place in amphitheaters, which the Greeks invented to incorporate plays in their religious and civic festivals. These Greek festivals were huge theatrical events filled with three days of drama. The structure of the amphitheater allowed for an audience of thousands to observe the theatrics and watch as the actors vie to win the drama competition. In addition, ancient Greek theater used dramas to relay moral and political messages to their communities. There are two different categories of drama: comedy and tragedy. Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare is said to have shaped the beginnings of modern day culture through his tragic plays by introducing man as the tragic hero rather than the Gods. Although both Miller and Shakespeare have modified the classic Greek tragedies in this manner they still fulfill Aristotle s definition of tragedy in many ways. Aristotle Vs Othello and Death of a Salesman Shakespeare s protagonist, Othello and Miller s protagonist, Willy Lowman are both considered the tragic heroes in the play. Othello is a moor and a general in Venetian army. He is experienced in battle and valued by the people. Since he is this well respected military leader, the people listened and cared about what he had to say. One instance of his high regard can be seen when one of the senators said, Here comes Barbantio and the valiant Moor , (Act I scene 3). With Othello overcoming racist Venice and managing to gain this high status in the community, Aristotle s first requirement for a tragic hero is fulfilled. However, many would argue that in Millers play, Willy Lowman s character stretches the definition of a tragic hero. Since Willy Lowman was a mere salesman struggling to seize the American dream he would definitely not be considered a man of high status. Although Willy Lowman did hold one honorable position and that was head of the household. This is illustrated during a conversation that Willy s wife Linda has with their son Biff. Linda Says No. You can t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Epic Of Gilgamesh Flood Analysis Stories are often used to teach a certain lesson or encourage certain behavior within a culture. Both the Tale of the Flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh and the story of the flood from the Old Testament exhibit these intentions. In the Tale of the Flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh , Utnapishtim was instructed by the godEa to build a large boat to save himself, his family, and the seed of all living things . Utnapishtim was given this instruction because the gods were angry with mankind and were planning to send a flood to destroy all living beings, save those on Utnapishtim s boat. After it has rained for many days, the boat lands on a mountain, and Utnapishtim sends out a dove, a swallow, and a raven to find dry land. The god Ishtar then creates a rainbow and places it in the sky to serve as a promise to mankind and a reminder to the gods that there would never be a flood such as that again. This story is intended to demonstrate the power of the gods and warn all people that they should not act as the men before the flood did. The rainbow serves as a promise that the earth will never again be flooded, but it does not promise that mankind will never again be punished for their behavior. The story of the flood from the Old Testament is very similar to the Tale of the Flood, and serves nearly the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps the most noteworthy difference is the power from above. In the Epic of Gilgamesh version, there are many gods. In the Old Testament version there is only one god. This serves as strong evidence that these tales were based on the same original story, whether one believes it to be a true historical event or simply a fable. The differences in the tales are then explained by the differences in the religious cultures telling the stories. • 6. Rhythm And Blues Research Paper In 1946, the American entertainment industry grew at a substantially rapid rate. The cause of this was the Post World War II economic expansion. The Postwar era was filled with many different genres, and talented artists. It is argued to be one the most multifaceted, and dynamic eras in the history of American popular music. In the midst of the complexity, two women emerged into the genre of Rhythm and Blues. Ruth Brown, also known as Miss Rhythm, was one of the biggest stars in the postwar era. She started at a young age, singing in two sectors of black church tradition. She sang in the AME (African Methodist) and Baptist denominations. I attended a fundraiser at the Redeemer Fellowship church in Kansas City and listened as the choir sang their gospels. The song Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean, was Ruth Brown s biggest hit and it does not sound similar to any of the gospels sang in the church.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. The Causes And Impacts Of British Petroleum On April 20, 2010, British Petroleum s (BP) offshore drilling rig, the Deepwater Horizon, exploded and caused the largest accidental marine oil spill in history, discharging five million barrels of oil into the ocean over a period of three months. During this accident, eleven men working on the oil rig perished and seventeen others were injured severely. This crisis caused major destruction to marine wildlife caused economic harm on fishing and tourism industries and was a public relations nightmare for British Petroleum(Crandall, Parnell Spillan, 2013). This event was horrendous; I remember the devastation that was left in the wake of this tragedy. Beginning in the 1980 s, offshore oil production showed to be a solution for the United States energy issues and national security. In the beginning, the wells were in shallow water, but once these wells were dry, drilling in the deeper water began. Although there were drawbacks, such as the difficulty to drill and operate a well at such tremendous depths and because of these depths robots would have to troubleshoot maintenance problems instead of humans. Additionally, in deep waters, special drilling rigs are needed. There are two types of drilling rigs, the drillship, and the semi submersible. The Deepwater Horizon was a semi submersible rig that was used to excavate the well on the Macondo slope in the Gulf of Mexico. Once the excavation was done, another rig would arrive to extract the oil. Companies like British ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of course this legend is not true, but people would tell this story and through fear, make others believe that it was. Urban legends such as Bloody Mary date all the back to the 1930 s, around the same time where the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was set. In the book, the people of Maycomb, Alabama use Boo Radley, a character in the book who was sentenced to house arrest, as an urban legend. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In today s society, whenever there is something that people do not understand, they create an urban legend to try and explain it, such as aliens or the Illuminati. Nobody knows if these legends are true or not but most people believe it because it gives people a sense of fulfillment to have an explanation for everything. In To Kill A Mockingbird however, everything that could not be explained was pinned on Boo Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo Radley so the children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became fixated on Boo Radley, mainly because the adults never spoke about him, so they created all of these rumors about him and whenever anything crazy happened, it always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of the book when Scout meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard about him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus replies by telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee 376). • 9. Reality Shows And The Reality Of Reality Television,... Nowadays, there is a wide selection of reality shows, which audiences can pick and watch. The reason why there are so many different types of reality shows is due to the expansion of the broadcasting industry and the need to ingratiate the taste of the public. Although most people will agree the term reality shows is used to identify shows that have arisen since the 21st century, the appearance of reality televisionshows actually emerged earlier than everyone thought. For example, Allen Funt s Candid Camera, which was the first reality show in the United States, arose in 1948 wherein real people respond to funny pranks or unusual situations for the first time ever under hidden cameras (Beck 6). Apart from the entertainment reality shows, non fictional entertainment shows such as documentaries about ordinary people, quiz and game shows also appeared during the 1990s (Beck 4). Therefore, the aim for people to watch reality shows at that time is entertainment and education. Yet, as time progresses, distinct subgenres of reality shows such as the makeover shows, celebrity reality shows as well as dating shows developed in the 21st century and the realness of reality shows has become controversial. The authenticity of reality shows has become debatable not only because of these people are oftentimes getting paid to be filmed on camera, but also because exaggerations of manliness, beauty, and wealth are often portrayed in these programs, thus causing audiences to consider them ... Covenants And The Roles Of Profit, Priest, And King Covenants and the Roles of Profit, Priest, and King in Organizational Management There are 6 major covenants in the Bible, Adam and Eve, pre flood Noah, post flood Noah, Abrahamic, Moses, and Jesus, with multiple themes of salvation, Messiah, and grace. Each are promises between God and His people and have four common elements; a benefactor; God, a beneficiary; man, terms and conditions, and a token or symbol. Significance and Meaning of a Covenant To provide a better appreciation of the Bible, a definition of covenant is necessary. A covenant is a serious life or death affair. It is a relationship; a sacred agreement between God and all humanity. It is how God chooses to communicate to us, to redeem us, and to guarantee us eternal life in Jesus. These ammendents included, among other things, the introduction of a non union/collective bargaining system in the form of Enterprise Flexibility Agreements. The intention of the 1993 Industrial Relations Reform Act, for example, was to make enterprise bargaining the main process for determining wages and other conditions of employment. Awards continued to provide effective regulation for employees who were not enjoying the benefits of enterprise bargaining, even if award wages rose slowly and fell well behind wage increases in enterprise agreements (Bray etc al, 2006). The Business Council of Australia s strong support for enterprise bargaining and for a weakened role for arbitration tribunals gradually became the mainstream position among most Australian employers, even among those who had previously supported centralized bargaining (Thornthwaite and Sheldon, 1996). This was the first time in history, in which the unions were excluded from having any involvement in all forms of agreement in relations to employment conditions in the federal jurisdiction. It was at the time of this introduction that it became evident that these agreements would allow employers to begin to de unionise their operations and to accelerate their move towards a non union status. Fourteenth century Italy was riddled with political factions, most notably the Guelphs and Ghibellines, which were constantly engaged in conflict. This ongoing political and religious upheaval would eventually lead to Dante s exile from Florence. After his banishment, Dante wrote The Divine Comedy, an epic poem that sets up a flawless system of punishment, redemption and salvation. This retributive structure, most readily apparent in the Inferno , heavily contrasts with the imperfect earthly one that failed Dante. • 16. Literary Devices In A Doll s House Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House In A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen was created during 1800s time period. This play helps shine a light on the gender roles of the 1800s while also creating a twist that was uncommon for this period. During this time period, women were left home to oversee the domestic duties, while men went to commuted to work (Hughes). Men were seen as physically superior but morally inferior to women; which is also portrayed within this book (Hughes). This play marks the beginning of Henrik Ibsen s realist period, which he explored the ordinary lives of small town people (Kirszner and Mandell 881). This modern tragedy helped make Ibsen famous internationally because of the real life story it captured (Kirszner and Mandell 882). Henrik Ibsen uses an array of literary devices to help keep the reader captivated from beginning to end. Three of the most prominent literary devices used by Henrik Ibsen are symbolism, foreshadowing, and an array of themes. These literary devices help transform a basic play into a complex story of lies and deception. Symbolism is used a lot within in the play and is a figure of speech that is used when an author wants to create a certain mood or emotion in a work of literature (What is Symbolism in Literature?). Majority of A Doll House is filled with symbolism that creates an intense emotion for the reader. The setting of the play is around Christmas Day and is approaching New Year s Day. • 18. Soft Drink and Coca Cola Coca Cola s New Vending Machine (A) Case Questions 1. Is selling Coke through interactive vending machines a good or bad idea? Explain your answer. It is a good idea to sell Coke through interactive vending machines. Over the last three years, the soft drinking giants have watched their earnings erode as they waged a price war in supermarkets. Vending machines have remained largely untouched by the discounting. Sales of soft drinks from vending machines have risen steadily over the last few years, though most sales still take place in supermarkets. Last year, about 11.9 percent of soft drink sales worldwide were from vending machines. Vending machines require low cost for companies. Company can just place a vending machine at ... Overall, brand switchers will benefit the most from this technology as they can buy Coca Cola when it is cheaper and switch to an alternative when it is more expensive. 4. Are there any price related issues that can adversely affect the firm? Price Wars Coca Cola needs to consider the risk of price wars if this technology is introduced because the ability to discount prices so easily could cause competitors to continually lower prices, specifically at holidays. Price Discrimination: This means, selling the same good to different groups of buyers at different prices . Price discrimination is used most through the internet because it so much easier to change prices and know information about the consumers buying behaviors so they can raise or lower the price accordingly meaning that they are not sacrificing profits but increasing economic efficiency. Therefore with Coke, those consumers that drink on hot days will be worse of since they have to pay a higher price, while those that drink on cold days will be better of. Consequently, sales in hotter countries could decrease as a result of charging high prices. It will only be a success if the difference between prices are not explicitly known. Otherwise Price discrimination could harm Coca Cola s brand image of being consumer friendly. 5. What did Coke do right? What did Coke do wrong? How would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Practices and Malpractice in Canadian Food Labelling Canada s food labelling practices are very much a work in progress. Labelling itself is a very important issue as it affects both product sales for companies and personal health for consumers, especially since most Canadian consumers learn about nutrition from food labels themselves (Nguyen) and are especially inclined to trust labels (GruГЁre, Carter and Farzin). Through labelling law, government is also able to impose foodstandards on products. An extensive set of rules to govern every possible category of food product is used and adhered to in the food inspection process. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New guidelines have eliminated this practice. However, companies choose to label products Made in Canada from Domestic and Imported Ingredients instead of labelling all the country origins of their ingredients. An example is in the meat industry. Foreign animals imported into Canada but slaughtered and/or processed here still qualify for Made in Canada labels, in fact, only pre processed and packaged imported meat requires a country of origin label (Weeks). This is admittedly the most practical option for processed food products comprising many ingredients, but can also be taken as an attempt to hide the true origin of ingredients from the consumer to prevent any bias in selection. Companies stand to lose sales if they reveal all the sources of their ingredients for several reasons. Consumers may have patriotic sympathies and prefer domestic goods. They may also have a bias towards certain countries, perhaps for political or environmental reasons (e.g. whether the food was produced sustainably) (Boyd), and may even doubt the quality of ingredients coming from lesser developed countries. There is additional confusion (for consumers) in the difference between Made in Canada and Product of Canada labels. Consumers tend to equate the two, but they are in fact very different. The seven dispensations are: the dispensation of innocence, the dispensation of conscience, the dispensation of human government, the dispensation of promise, the dispensation of law, the dispensation of grace, and the millennial kingdom of Christ. Basic Concepts of Energy Efficiency You can make a lot of progress toward improving the energy efficiency in your home by simply plugging the many places through which air can get in or get out. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His line of reasoning was that, by reducing the temperature in our homes, we could conserve heating fuel. President Carter s words of nearly 30 years ago still ring true today: The best way to conserve energy is to not use so much of it. And one of the best ways of reducing the use of heating fuel in the home is to simply turn down the thermostat. Because space heating constitutes the largest energy expenditure in many homes, even a little conservation of heating fuel goes a long way toward achieving a lower utility bill. Dialing down the thermostat one degree during the winter can result in about 1 to 3 percent less fuel use, and a similar reduction in your heating bill. A furnace or boiler has to maintain a differential in temperature between the inside of the house and the outdoors in order for the house to feel comfortable. On cold days that difference can be as much as 50 to 60 degrees (say, 20 outside and 70 inside). Any time the differential can be reduced, even by a degree or two, the heating system comes on less often, less fuel is burned, and savings result. The downside of turning down a thermostat, of course, is that the house is cooler. But Carter had a solution for that simply slip on a sweater. That makes sense, too.
