numerous biblical allusions, corresponding to the common theme of Man s relationship with God.
Some of these allusions pertain to actual verses from the Bibleplaced into the story. Others are
abstract and are representations of themes from the Bible. Generally, Alan Paton has ingeniously
placed biblical allusions to emphasize the relationship between man and God.
Imagine an eden where the grass is rich and thick . The novel opens with visual imagery of a
scene of paradise. Unfortunately, over time the streams dry out and too many cattle feed upon the
grass (Paton.1). This alludes to the Garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise for Adam and Eve,
but because of their sin, they could not stand upon it (Paton.1). When Paton is describing the
beautiful land, the narrator commands not to stand upon it[, wearing] shoes, for the ground is holy,
being just as it came from God (Paton.1). This statement represents with the story of Moses in
which he could not walk towards the burning bush with his shoes on. He is commanded to remove
them before approaching the bush. The first chapter of Cry, the Beloved Country is filled with
allusions pertaining to the early Old Testament of the Bible.
Paton uses a well known Bible verse from Isaiah as is well fits the theme of man s relationship

Witnessing the communication among the: interdisciplinary team, HCP, Nurse Practitioners,
Lab technicians, and others was great. Every time the patient or family member requested to
speak to the HCP, my nurse would page the HCP through the computer and the HCP would be
calling or showing up to the patient s bedside. If my nurse questioned an order and began to be
concerned, she would contact the HCP, and await confirmation by the HCP to provide
reassurance regarding any concern. As a nurse, you provide comfort and answer any question the
patient asks to relieve their anxiety. My nurse did an exemplary job. Every question the patient
or family member had, she answered it with the correct information and eased their concerns. My
communication style impacted in my own way during my assessment. I was able to communicate
with the patient and ask the reason he was admitted into the hospital. At first, he was startled as
to why I was doing my assessment and the questions I asked towards him. He then began to be

The paranormal experiences start to manifest once the spirits attach themselves to the house,
making the setting crucial to the plot. Along with the house being crucial, it was important for
Carol Ann to be taken away in the first instance, otherwise it would be likely the family would
