Saving Private Ryan Accuracy
A valuable life Four Brother s in the World War
Tom Hanks stars in a historical war movie Saving Private Ryan that takes place at the time of
World War 2 Tom Hanks Starts on a 1998 blockbuster war movie Saving Private Ryan which has
won 5 Oscars in that year. This movie has its story started in the time of World War 2, when the
US troops attempt to invade Normandy on Omaha beach fighting against the German soldiers
who at that time was led by Adolf Hitler. This movie has given a vivid image of violence and the
real picture of a battle in the war between the US and German soldiers. Director Steven Spielberg
used all of his talent and resource to portray the realistic scenario of the war which includes the
brutal, graphic and disturbing scenes of the ongoing war against the Germans. The director of this
movie Steven Spielberg has done an excellent job to portray the realistic scenario of the war with
real time experience of the brutality, graphics and disturbing scenes. Although the main plot of the

The main story that the story is based is the mission where Tom Hanks is the leader of a small
group of men assigned to find James Ryan and to bring him home. This movie includes a great
combination of emotion and determination to find the last remaining brother in the Ryan
family. The journey of Hanks and his six chosen men begins from the infantry division to
Neuville in which they meet many squads and had to fight in different places to find a man.
This movie is a perfect display of a war movie and the reality of the soldiers who fought in the
war. The extreme combination of emotion, violence and the harsh reality of war and the world
unknown to most of us has made this movie a must see movie. This movie shows a great example
of characterization in which all the actors had played an important role to make this movie a
remarkable one and break down and terrify the persons who had been to that

The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On The Activity Of The Enzyme Catalase
A Level Biology Project
Aims
This is an experiment to examine how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide affects
the rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase.
Background Information
Enzymes such as Catalase are protein molecules which are found in living cells. They are used to
speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all very specific as each enzyme just performs one
particular reaction.
Catalase is an enzyme found in food such as potato and liver. It is used for removing Hydrogen
Peroxide from the cells. Hydrogen Peroxide is the poisonous by product of metabolism. Catalase
speeds up the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide into water ... Show more content on

To ensure this is a fair test all the variables except for the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide must
be kept the same for all the experiments. Variables that must not be altered include:
Temperature, yeast concentration, type of yeast, batch of yeast, volume of yeast, volume of
hydrogen peroxide, air pressure and humidity.
When measuring the volumes of Hydrogen Peroxide, Yeast and Water the measurement should be
taken by looking at the scale at an angle of 90 degrees to it to avoid any parallax error.
Predictions
I predict that as the substrate concentration increases, the rate of reaction will go up at a directly
proportional rate until the solution becomes saturated with the substrate hydrogen peroxide. When
this saturation point is reached, then adding extra substrate will make no difference.
The rate steadily increases when more substrate is added because more of the active sites of the
enzyme are being used which results in more reactions so the required amount of oxygen is made
more quickly. Once the amount of substrate molecules added exceeds the number of active sites
available then the rate of reaction will no longer go up. This is because the maximum number of
reactions are being done at once so any extra substrate molecules have to wait until some of the
active sites

Analysis Of Preston s Story Essay
Preston s story is one that will strike you at heart, but make you question why you ever thought
you had it rough. He was born into a family consisting of him and his mother. There were
struggles amongst this family right off the get go. Preston s life has been full of hardships but
God has shaped his future into something beautiful. Preston s mother was a teen mom who was
impregnated at the age of 16 and gave labor at 17. His father was not present from the beginning
of his life and has not made an attempt to help raise him and support his mom. It would be
extremely difficult to be a teen and still have to raise a child on your own. Introduced to Preston
at age seven was his soon to be step dad and his two siblings. This was good for him and his
mother but ended up to be a tough situation for Preston. Preston felt that his step father treated his
step brother and sister better than he treated him. Which made some difficulties throughout his
life. Preston was born and raised in Iowa. He originated from the town of Le Mars. Preston had
his first fight for his life at the age of five. His mom being only 22 years old had to go through one
of the hardest things a parent can go through. Preston was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and
was hospitalized for multiple months. Throughout this brutal battle, Preston was read his death
rights, in such bad condition he could not move and even had times where he had given up on the
fight. Being such a young boy he stated that some

Comparing and Contrasting the Novel and Movie Version of...
Comparing and Contrasting the Novel and Movie Version of The Grapes of Wrath
John Steinbeck wrote the The Grapes of Wrath in 1939 to rouse its readers against those who
were responsible for keeping the American people in poverty. The Grapes of Wrath tells the
story of the Joad family, migrant farmers from Oklahoma traveling to California in search of an
illusion of prosperity. The novel s strong stance stirred up much controversy, as it was often
called Communist propaganda, and banned from schools due to its vulgar language. However,
Steinbeck s novel is considered to be his greatest work. It won the Pulitzer Prize, and later became
an Academy Award winning movie in 1940. The novel and the movie are both considered to be
wonderful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie does not discuss in depth the vast significance of this route. On the other hand, Chapter
12 of the novel describes how Route 66 is a river of immigrants. This interchapter explains how
the thousands traveling Route 66 are refugees from the troubles in the East, giving a better
description of the time period. Finally, the movie never describes in depth the economic
situation of California during the 1930 s. In the movie, the story ends leaving the viewer with
the image of California as a land of prosperity. However, the novel attacks the economic situation
of California with rage in Chapter 25. In this interchapter, Steinbeck describes how a surplus can
make prices so low that the farmers have no income, or how the supply of farm goods can be so
scarce that the goods are priced too high to sale. This situation plagues California, and farmers are
thrown in poverty. This chapter shows how California is not a safe haven for farmers, but a harsh,
devouring environment. The interchapters in the novel form of Grapes of Wrath describe in detail
the time period of the storyline, while the movie leaves the spectators unaware of the actual
situation of the migrant farmers in the 1930 s.
In the novel form of Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck uses different literary elements, which are not
present in the movie, to provide a deeper meaning of the story. One major element in the novel that
is absent in the movie is Steinbeck s use of

The Formula Of Zinc And Hydrochloric Acid
In this lab, we balanced the equation xZn(s) + yHCl(aq) в†’ ZnxCly (s) + y/2H2(g) by the
information obtained from the lab. When zinc and hydrochloric acid are mixed together, the
reaction took place in an evaporating dish that was accompanied by hydrogen gas. Then we
measured out the mass of zinc and chlorine in the reaction and calculated the empirical formula of
zincchloride which was ZnCl8. Based on the conservation of mass, we balanced the equation
and got Zn(s) + 8 HCl (aq) в†’ ZnCl8 (s) + 4 H2 (g). In the second part of the experiment, we
obtained copper wire and sulfur from the instructor. Then we measured out the mass of copper
and added proper amount of sulfur to cover the copper wire. During the lab, copper with sulfur
was heated, and the reaction was carried out. We saw the blue flame occurred on the crucible. We
determined the empirical formula of copper sulfide, which was Cu2S. Then, the equation was
balanced easily from the obtained data which was 2Cu + S = Cu2S.
Introduction:
The purpose of this lab is to become familiar with chemical formulas and how they re obtained.
Chemical formulas represent what are produced from a chemical reaction. Compounds composed of
molecules are called molecular compounds, which may or may not contain more than one type of
atom. Chemical formulas indicating actual numbers and types of atoms in a molecule are called
molecular formulas, whereas chemical formulas that indicate only the relative numbers of atoms of

Christian Persecution
Christian Persecution Christians are being persecuted for their faith in more than the forty nations
around world today. In some nations, it is illegal to own a Bible, to share one s faith in Christ, and
even teach one s children about Jesus Christ. Those who boldly follow Christ, in spite of
government decree or opposition, can face harassment, arrest, torture and even death. Dr. Nhia
Vang Vang, the pastor of the First Hmong Alliance Church in Longview, NC, mentioned that
Christianityhas been persecuted for over 2000 years up until now. However, more Christians have
been arrested, harassed, and persecuted in this century than in the previous nineteen combined

Pastor Bike (Pastor Zhang Mingxuan) is a missionary who travels across China on a bicycle to
spread the news of Jesus Christ. He was arrested by the Chinese officials on August 6, 2008; just
two days after the Olympics began. ( Olympic ). Mingxuan was tortured and interrogated in
prison countless times. However, regardless of the harassment by the Chinese officials, Pastor
Bike continued to win several lives for Jesus Christ. The numbers of Christian martyrs are
increasing by the year, yet Christians continue to meet for worship and the church in restricted
nations are still growing. People who are willing to sacrifice everything, including their lives, for
the sake of spreading the gospel throughout the world are given the name Jesus Freaks. Many
Christians are abused and harassed by officials or mobs who attempt to force Christians to
renounce their faith. In Chiapas, Mexico, a Christian family was attacked by a mob; killing
Pedro, his wife and his son. Six of the other children were left seriously wounded. ( Christian ).
There are many more cases such as these occurring even now. The list of Christian persecution is
endless; several people suffer much more due to their faith. These Jesus Freaks are continuously
victimized and attacked, yet their love for Jesus Christ gives

Gabriela My Personality
Gabriela Kaczmarczyk was my student for two years of high school (11th and 12th grade).
Throughout those years, she made herself known as an extremely energetic person, exuberant
even. She always took active part in my lessons, willingly participating in any kind of
discussion. Her ideas, given the topic, were always relevant. She is the girl who encouraged her
fellow students to speak up, or even to argue their point, for she herself is an excellent speaker.
While working on a broad spectrum of cultural texts, her conclusions are most of the time
genuinely original. She tends to look for unique answers, her judgments are both fresh and
controversial. On the other hand, even given her spontaneity, Gabriela s personal culture is
spotless, and the same can be said about her approach to discussion. She has never offended
anyone, for she is accepting of all sorts of judgments and opinions. Gabriela was not only active
during my lessons, but also took part in many extracurricular activities, the most notable being a
literary contest. She wrote a story, which showed her creativity, also earning her the third place.

she can not follow the subject. She happens to digress and uses thought abbreviations. I believe
that these shortfalls can be worked on, even more so because Gabriela listens and tries her best to
do better next time. She has no problem with accepting constructive critique. She was always glad
to talk with me as a teacher, she happened to be a great listener. Our conversations helped me
understand her many interests, especially artistic ones. Gabriela reads a lot, watches movies, and
visits the theater quite frequently. She is familiar with modern art and literature. She can speak
interestingly, passionately even, about her

The equation for radiation resistance is given in (1). As can be seen, the greater the radiation
resistance, the more energy is radiated or received by the antenna. When the radiation resistance of
the antenna matches the resistance of the transmitter or receiver, the system is optimized. Antennas
also have ohmic or loss resistance which decreases efficiency. It can be shown that an efficient
antenna must be comparable to a wavelength in size.
(4.6)
A second parameter of antennas is the
Antenna pattern. This gives a distribution of radiated power as a function of direction in space.
Generally, planar sections of the radiation pattern will be shown instead of the complete three
dimensional surface. The most important views are those of the principal E plane and H plane
patterns. The E plane pattern contains the plane in which the electric field lies. Similarly, the H
plane pattern is a sectional view in which the magnetic field lies. An example of each type is
shown in Figure 4.1, which gives the antenna pattern for a half wave dipole orientated in the z
direction.

Psychedelic Drugs Research Paper
Psychedelic Drugs
Medical interest in psychedelic drugs has been renewed, but is it possible to overcome their
negative stigma and association with counterculture to move forward with their potential medical
promise? Psychedelic drugs are poised to be the next major mental breakthrough in health care, yet
studying any type of illegal drug is often met with rejection, backlash, or tight regulations (Bushak,
2015). These drugs, if handled correctly, could potentially change the lives of millions of patients
across America. Many would suggest that the risk is too high, but in which way do psychedelics
present more risks than heavily addicting narcotics or alcohol? This treatment would allow
thousands of individuals to manage pain levels, anxiety, and depression in a whole new manner.
Legalizing psychedelic drugs for medical purposes would be beneficial to society because of their
potential medicinal and therapeutic treatments that heavily outweigh the observed risks.
Psychedelics are generally considered as a substance in which the primary action that occurs when
used is altered cognition and perception (Psychedelics, 2016, para. 1). Psychedelic drugs can

Individualism In Defoe s The Fortunate Mistress
The neoclassical time period served to reinvent the notion of how literature was presented within
society, working to introduce several crucial concepts that worked to alter individual perception,
such as identity, and construct new ways of thinking. One instance of this newfound individualism
can be viewed in Defoe s narrative, The Fortunate Mistress, in which a woman recounts her
personal experience and transformation from a virtuous woman to a whore in response to
unforeseen and unavoidable situations. Critical interpretations of the narrative have neglected to
recognize the significance of how Roxana s role in society and actions depict her as an archetype
for the early feminist individual On the contrary, the majority of critics tend to make the focal point
the end of the novel in order to solidify the argument that the story was abruptly left unfinished and
obscure in nature. As Molesworth puts it, a friendship that has thus far been marked by intimacy,
candor, and forthrightness lapses into an unfamiliarity marked by timidity and apprehension
(Molesworth 495). The tendency to interpret the ending in such a manner has lead to the viewing
of Roxana as an unsuccessful individual, who attempted to deny the norms of social behavior, and
as a result of this, was unable to overcome the obstacles presented and ultimately failed. Be that as it
may, when taking into consideration how Roxana utilizes perception and reflection to analyze her
past experiences, using this

Biblical Allusions In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Although not always recognizable, biblical allusions enhance the writing of novels, and connect
specific themes to the Bible. Throughout Cry, The Beloved Country, Alan Paton has placed
numerous biblical allusions, corresponding to the common theme of Man s relationship with God.
Some of these allusions pertain to actual verses from the Bibleplaced into the story. Others are
abstract and are representations of themes from the Bible. Generally, Alan Paton has ingeniously
placed biblical allusions to emphasize the relationship between man and God.
Imagine an eden where the grass is rich and thick . The novel opens with visual imagery of a
scene of paradise. Unfortunately, over time the streams dry out and too many cattle feed upon the
grass (Paton.1). This alludes to the Garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise for Adam and Eve,
but because of their sin, they could not stand upon it (Paton.1). When Paton is describing the
beautiful land, the narrator commands not to stand upon it[, wearing] shoes, for the ground is holy,
being just as it came from God (Paton.1). This statement represents with the story of Moses in
which he could not walk towards the burning bush with his shoes on. He is commanded to remove
them before approaching the bush. The first chapter of Cry, the Beloved Country is filled with
allusions pertaining to the early Old Testament of the Bible.
Paton uses a well known Bible verse from Isaiah as is well fits the theme of man s relationship
with God and how man s morals have been destroyed in Johannesburg. The narrator hopes that
God will open the blind eyes, [and] bring out the prisoners from prison (Paton.122). He may very
well be referring to literal prison, where people are held due to wrong doings, or, this may
correspond with the African Americans who do not have the rights they deserve. God has called
[Kumalo] in righteousness and will hold [his] hand (Paton.122). Paton is trying to show that
Kumalo has fear about Johannesburg, but God will be with him and will not leave his side.
Regardless of which interpretation of this quote is used, both symbolize important elements of the
story in order to enhance the book, and engage the readers.
Throughout the plot, Stephen Kumalo, the

A high resolution gamma detection system was used for gamma analysis. This system consist
of an ORTEC hyper pure germanium detector (HPGe), model number GEM 15190, coaxial type
detector with a serial number 27 P 1876A recommended operating bias, negative 3 Kv. The
detector used has crystal diameter 49.3 mm, and crystal length 47.1 mm. The HPGe detector has
a full width at half maximum (FWHM) 0.9 keV at the 122 keV gamma transition of Co 57 and
1.9 keV at the 1332.5 keV of Co 60 gamma transition (Knoll, 2000). The detector has peak to
Compton ratio about 44 keV. Compton ratio is the number of net counts in the 1.33 MeV peak
channels divided by the average number of net counts in the channels representing the range from
l.040 through 1.096 MeV which is part of the Compton region associated with the 1.33 MeV peak.

John Renfro Servant Leadership
Part 2 Leadership Review
Pastor Renfro, as he is known by those who have had the pleasure to meet him, defines servant
leadership as one of the many models of ministry, each of which describes how a particular
minister understands his/her role and approach to ministry as a vocation, and a way of life. Dr.
John Renfro is currently senior chaplain at Conway Medical Center in Conway, South Carolina. He
grew up in simple, rural South Carolina in Spartanburg County, and he benefitted from a family
who had a personal deep connection with God. His simplistic beginning provides the anchor of
stability in a turbulent world for his family and those whom he offers ministry. Pastor Renfro has
felt that ministry grows out of life, the life of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We need to be with people where they are without the need to fix them, rather, trusting God to do
what He is doing in their lives, hoping that He uses me as part of the process. I know that I will
be learning and growing with those whom God sends me. Pastor Renfro was then asked how
has he evolved or grown as a servant leader. He responded, Each of us follows a circuitous,
sometimes difficult pathway in ministry, we learn, we grow, we become more aware of
ourselves as people and as ministers. I am a country preacher, and although I have a wealth of
formal education and training, I continue to grow and evolve daily, as a person, and as a
minister. Renfro continues, the most difficult thing to overcome is our own tendency to be
ostentatious a lack of genuineness and openness; you need to go deep in faith and in ministry;
my own history, as a country preacher, took a great deal of energy to integrate and allow this to
be my greatest strength. When asked what he believed are the advantages/disadvantages of being a
servant leader, Renfro responded, a strength and advantage would be to possess a non judgmental
presence, to allow people to be the who, what, and where they need to be in our encounters; the
disadvantage in that is some people might consider this position as too indeterminate, lacking in
absolutes. Renfro commented on the partnerships he has forged in his life of servant leadership,
starting with being a Clinical Pastor Supervisor (certified to teach at the graduate level), a
Diplomate of the College of Pastoral Supervision, a nationally certified Professional Chaplain by
the Association of Professional Chaplains, and also an Ordained Bishop in the Church of

Setting
A. Write a brief description of the setting(s) of the book.
This book is set in the early 1960 s up until the early 2000 s, in Afghanistan. One of the leading
characters of the story, Mariam lives in a small city called Herat, where she lives with her mother,
Nana, in a kolba, which is a small shack. While
Mariam and her mother are living in a small rundown hut, her father, Jalil, lives in a mansion with
his other children and wives.

If so, how?
Yes, time and place do contribute to the conflict of the story. In this story, time and place tend to
be the conflict. Currently in Afghanistan, and even back to when this book is set, it has been
extremely challenging to be a woman. Most women are illiterate because they have no form of
education, and are forced into marriage at young ages with men who are decades older than they
are. Many women are abused and isolated. Sometimes when their husbands have male friends over
they are asked to leave, and are left alone until the guests have departed. In A Thousand Splendid
Suns , Mariam deals with abuse during her marriage to
Rasheed, this continues the topic and conflict of women being oppressed. In a part of the book
Mariam prepares a meal for Rasheed, and every time she does this she tries her best to please him.
This time, Rasheed spits the rice she made on the floor, grabs rocks and tells her to chew them,
injuring her.
Character(s)
Mariam is a young girl who was born out of wedlock. Her mother Nana was a maid for her father
Jalil, a wealthy and successful businessman. Her parents do not live together, and throughout the
beginning of the story, Mariam continuously pesters her mother about seeing Jalil. Every time
Mariam asks to see her father, Nana declines and says she is a harami and not one of them ,
meaning she s a bastard child , and while Jalil is living in his mansion along with his wives and
children, Nana and Mariam are living

Theories And Theories Of Psychoanalytic Theories
I appreciated the information provided in the appendix, being able to learn about several theories
and having Worthington discuss the conflicts with these theories, What I found is that I agreed
with most of the theories and when I read the critique I was able to understand the flaws and how
they may not be entirely accurate. This has opened my mind to wanting to explore more about
these theories so that I am able to be aware of several theories to possible use as I practice.
Worthington discussed theories of psychoanalytic, systems, behavioral, cognitive, and Christian.
Psychoanalytic Marriage Therapies Nadelson s Theory. His theory is that problems are seen as due
to the developmental history of individuals (Worthington Jr., 1989, p.... Show more content on

The main focus of psychodynamic therapy is understanding problems and not changing the
problem. This therapy can possible be effective with the use of other theories, as in order to
change a problem one needs to be aware of the problems.
Marital Systems Theories Bowen s Theory. This theory focusses on the emotional state of family,
through emotional process and intellectual processes. Bowen introduces three techniques the
emotional pursuer distancer pattern, the I position and explicit teaching. These are interesting
techniques that I could see myself using, but as I read further to his stages of therapy I was a little
perplexed. As I was not able to comprehend his style of therapy and the shift of systems from
marital to self to family to social. Mental Research Institute Theory. MRI believes that one can
understand the overall behavior without understanding the individual. Communication consists of
syntax way information is transmitted, semantics meaning of communication, and pragmatics
effects of communication on both sender and receiver. MRI focuses on the pragmatics and using
behavioral communication to help the couple. The example that was given helped me to
understand the concept of MRI that poor communication can lead to a symptom that may solve
other difficulties the couple are having. As the focus in helping turns to the communication so that

when a full moon illuminated that dark sky, those nights were busier, crazier, and more dangerous

Intrigued by the offer, I said, Stand by let me go ask my Sgt.
I headed back to inform Keith that the ladies were very friendly and wanted to know if we were
hungry. Keith smiled and replied, Shit man, let s go get some grub.
We returned to the lawn, welcomed by friendly, flirty smiles. Keith asked, Do you have and iced
tea or soda?
The ladies giggled and said, No but we have rum if you want.
With disappointment in his eyes, Keith told them, We are on duty and alcohol is not allowed.
The ladies broke out in roaring laughter, as they asked our names. They introduced themselves
and we learned they were from Thailand. Their English was poor at best and based on their ages,
they met their husbands during the Vietnam War. One of the ladies said her name was Kat. Being
a smartass kid I responded with, Cat like the animal or Kat like the candy bar?
They all laughed and she said, Candy bar.

Ethical Hacking And Information Security Essay
Ethical Hacking and Information Security
Merriam Webster defines Hacker as, a person who secretly gets access to a computer system in
order to get information, cause damage. But what if I told you that having a hacker is necessary?
Ethical Hacking is paramount to the security of our Information Technologies (IT). The task of
testing your computers and network for security vulnerabilities and plugging the vulnerabilities you
find before the opposition gets a chance to exploit them. Without having the ability to do what
devious personnel can do inside your IT, you will never fully understand the holes in your security.
It all began in the 1960s at MIT, origin of the term hacker , but the science dates back to 1903 to
the first ever documented hacking of an electronic device. In 1932, Marian Rejewski hacked the
German Enigma Machine. The Enigma machine was an electromechanical device, equipped with
a 26 letter keyboard and 26 lamps, relating to the letters of the alphabet. Inside was a set of wired
drums (rotors and a reflector) that jumbled the input. The Enigma used a plug board to swap pairs
of letters, and the encryption varied from one key press to the next. For two operators to
communicate, both Enigma machines had to be set up in the same way. The large number of
possibilities for setting the rotors and the plug board combined to form an exponential number of
configurations, and the settings were changed daily, so the machine code had to be broken each
day. Marian s

A Report On Employees Staff Turnover
Introduction: Any business with unhappy employees will lead to high rate of staff turnover and
generally create a negative work environment. This has been an ongoing and serious issue, it is
definitely something that requires addressing and to be improved so JW Manufacturing can

Daisy is a tomboy who prefers to wear her brother s clothing and cover her fingernails in black
sharpie marker. Daisy is looking forward to watching a firework show on TV later that night.

Mandatory Trigger Warnings
At University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2014, the student Senate passed a resolution that
called for mandatory trigger warnings. This resolution, if it had become campus policy,
proposed that not only students who have been diagnosed with PTSD would be exempt from
class for any possibly triggering material but any student who was discomfited by the material
(The Times Editorial Board). In other words, students have the choice to decide if they attend
lecture due to discomfort scot free. According to the UCSB Newspaper, The Nexus, sophomore
Bailey Loverin said the idea for campus wide trigger warnings came to her in February after a
professor showed a graphic film depicting rape. Although she had herself not felt triggered by the

According to NPR author Anya Kamenetz, 51% out of 841 professors reported that they ve used a
trigger warning in advance of introducing potentially difficult material (Kamenetz). University
faculty and staff have increasingly used trigger warnings to alert students to the possibility that they
might be affected or even harmed by potentially traumatic material. In colleges like Oberlin and
UCSB, trigger warnings are given in assumption that universities have a responsibility to protect
students from controversial or potentially sensitive material. Joanna Williams, director of the Centre
for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Kent, points out that the entire canon of
English literature could contain warnings as to the emotional nature of the content and the
issues covered (Williams 17). This has already begun to happen as some students have called for
warnings for classic works like Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart due its description of racial
violence, so that those students who have been previously victimized by racism or domestic
violence can choose to avoid these works, due to the possibility of a trigger. Williams also
mentions that lecturers driven by the pursuit of student satisfaction may well choose to self
censor and leave controversial topics out of the curriculum altogether to prevent potential upset
(Williams 187). One professor, in a Vox op ed called I m a liberal professor, and my liberal
students terrify me, validates this idea by writing that he was afraid of his undergraduate students
after a complaint and edited his subject material to avoid upsetting them. He further acknowledges
that his colleagues have done the same for fear of being let go (Schlosser). The claims for a right
to not be offended has essentially created a challenge for universities and their professors to teach
students to be comfortable with challenging

Terrorists Are Ordinary People
One of the significant learning points from the course material can be found in Section II, Brief

understanding the mind of the terrorist is to understand that terrorists are ordinary people with
ordinary needs and ordinary limitations. They make decisions about their missions just as we
make decisions about the tasks we carry out each day in our work and home environments (p.40).
The average person might think of a terrorist as an insane monster who has no morals or the
ability to feel. This concept is farthest from the truth, terrorists just feel strongly about their cause

The Black Of Black Criminal Labels
Welch (2007) instituted her article with details of speculations and theories that coincided to the
development of Black criminal labels. Now, the Black criminal labels are basically the stereotypes
that black people are commonly involve or associate with regarding with crime. She thought it was
a plausible concept to understand the images of crimeshown by a society. She explicates on racial
stereotypes through crime rates, black involvement in crimes, media, and racial hoaxes. For
instance, young black males in America are commonly perceived as violent, gang affiliated, and
sustain by other labels everywhere. She mentions talking about crime is talking about racewhich has
adapted to the publics minds throughout a wide range in history (Welch, 2007; Barlow, 1998,
p.151). Welch gives an example of a common white stereotype of African Americans as being less
controlled, and more prone to crime than whites which adds to the public s conception of
criminality (2007; Higginbotham, 2002, p.147). Through the various factors, like black
involvement in crime have contributed to the criminal stereotyping of blacks. Concerning this,
Randall Kennedy interpreted how the reputation of Blacks has been besieged by beliefs from white
peopleabout inclinations beforehand towards criminal activity that could be traced back to when
Africans were held in captivity (1997; Welch, 2007). His statement conveyed that African
Americans have had this reputation for decades. The real

Welfare Reform
Under the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996
(PRWORA), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) replaced AFDC, ending some
Federal responsibility to welfare assistance. States operate their own programs; determine
eligibility services to be provided to needy families, within Federal guidelines. The Federal
government cannot regulate the conduct of states except to a few requirements, and states have a
wide latitude in administering the program to provide assistance to needy families so that children
can be cared for in their own homes; to reduce dependency by promoting job preparation, work and

Under this Act, states are awarded for increasing the number of children below 200 percent of
poverty who reside in married couple families (Nathan Gais, 1999). This measure is based on the
theory that children in single parent homes are at greater risk than those in two parent families and
the best solution is marriage. In short, the federal government is rewarding states for encouraging
marriage, a very personal decision. How do states measure the results of having more couples
getting married?
Over the past five years, the federal government has also found it difficult to measure improvement
in states. Currently, success is based in terms of job entry rate or increases over time in job entry
rate, retention rate, and earnings gain. States may use quarterly unemployment insurance wage
records, surveys, administrative records, or a combination of those data sources. States are given
wide latitude in the sources of information they report. Also, to further distort the findings, there is
no baseline data with which to make comparisons (Danziger, 2000).
Whose interests are best served by the current welfare requirements? TANF encourages states to
provide assistance to those welfare recipients who are most likely to succeed at employment,
ignoring individuals who are harder to place. In order to show increases in employment and wage
rates, the most attention is

The Importance Of The Human Body And Mind
I think the human body and mind is amazing. I studied Psychology and I m still fascinated by
human interactions. What scares me is how little we know about the brain and how it manages to
create feelings and thoughts whilst simultaneously controlling the entire body.
Why is the brain important?
The more we understand the structures of the brain and how the brain controls emotions the better
chance we have of increasing wellness. I m not a neuroscientist but the developments in this field
are worth your attention.
Signing up to build a Naked Tool Kit means only the naked truth is spoken. You won t find any
wild claims of seven day fixes here because they don t exist. The naked truth: understudying our
body, mind and what we need to do to look after ourselves can be a challenge.
Here s some interesting information from Neuroscientist and Psychologist Lisa Feldman Barret s
book How Emotions Are Made
Your brain has the capacity to make new emotions ALL the time. This idea goes against the
classical view of emotions being pre wired and triggered by what happens in the world. This is a
radical research claim.
There is no one size fits all when it comes to emotions. Variety is the norm! For example, someone
might laugh, cry or shout loudly when happy.
No matter how confident you are at reading people (especially dealing with people across cultures)
you can t assume you know how someone else feels. History documents catastrophic mistakes made
in politics and business when this has been attempted. (This means no therapist can truly know how
you feel. YOU are the expert of your feelings and how you can manage their impacts).
We all have basic wiring to feel unpleasant, pleasant, calm and distressed. We are the architect of
our emotions after this. Data shows the brain isn t reacting to the world, it s predicting and
making emotions from a basic set of ingredients it has acquired since you were born. Just like
making different recipes from the ingredients you have in your kitchen (flour, water, eggs etc);
similarly your brain has a set of networks it uses in recipes to make different emotional states.
The same neural networks that work together to produce emotions work together to produce rational

Great Potato Famine Essay
The Irish Potato Famine occurred in 1845 and had killed tons of people. Over 750,000 people had
died and more than a million had emigrated. At the time Ireland s population was only about 8
million so this famine had devastated many families. The people of Ireland at this time were so
dependent upon the potatothat it was a main staple. The Irish would consume the potato with
almost every meal, and for some the potato was the only food that they were ever able to eat. The
famine was produced by a protist called Phytophthora infestans(P. Infestans), when it was
introduced from central highlands of Mexico. The potato blight originated from Mexico, and then

When the winters were harsher in the 1700s the Irish would use them for food in the winter,
when all other sources of food were scarce. Thanks to Ireland s weather conditions the potato
was very easily grown and could be produced in mass amounts. By the end of the 1800s the
potato was a main staple for the Irish and they would eat the potato as part of their daily lives.
Eventually, the poor people of Ireland would rely on the potato as their only food source. The
land consolidation laws forced the farmers to grow potatoes in a tightly packed space, as you
don t need much room to grow potatoes. A lot of potatoes good fit in one acre of land and could
feed a family for a long time. Since, the potatoes were all grown in one confined space the P.
Infestans had a very easy time spreading to each potato, thus resulting in P. Infestans spreading to
different fields. The pattern of consolidation, making larger farms from smaller farms, increased
competition for land and pressure to acquire land. (p. p12.nysed.gov) Land consolidation was
making the most effective use of space for a farm. So instead of growing the potatoes properly
spaced apart, they would be all jammed together in tighter rows. Also, not much land was available
so the land that was available was fought over my English landlords. This led to much political
debate in Ireland at the time, so instead of the politicians contributing

Joe And Murder Case Brief
Joe
Murder
The most serious offence Joe could be charged with is murder. Murder is the unlawful killing of a
human being under the Queen s Peace with malice afterthought to kill or to cause grievous bodily
harm . Murder is committed by an act or omission. In this case its an omission. An omission occurs
when the defendant had a duty to act and breached that duty. This breach must be the cause of
death. The actus reus for murder is the unlawful killing of another person in the Queen s peace
and It must be satisfied that the defendant s act or omission caused the death of the victim. Karla

If the Jury agrees, she would be convicted of manslaughter. To rely on a defense of loss of control,
the defense must show that the defendant s actions and omissions in doing or being a party to
the killing resulted from actual loss of self control the loss of self control had a qualifying
trigger and that a person of the defendant s age and sex with a normal degree of tolerance and
self restraint given defendant s circumstances might have reacted the same way as the defendant.
The first issue is of actual loss of control by the defendant. Unlike the previous law of
provocation, loss of control need not be sudden. This may beget a problem because the longer
the delay between the qualifying trigger and the act of killing, the more difficult it will be to
establish actual loss of self control. If the defendant acted for a a desire for revenge, the defence
will not be available. Loss of control can not be relied upon in cases of sexual infidelity.
Although Lou gets up from the floor where she had been pushed by Mick after a short period,
she goes into the kitchen and grabs a knife stabbing Mick continuously. Lou went to Mick s
house to confront him about the death of her sister. It is clear that she did not kill Mick in a
desire for revenge and that she lost control. Secondly, it is the issue of if D s loss of self control
was attributable to D s fear of serious violence from V against D or another person or in
combination to things done and/or said to the victim which constituted circumstances of an
extremely grave character, and caused D to have a justifiable sense of being seriously wronged.
In determining whether a loss of control had a qualifying trigger, D s fear of serious violence is
to be disregarded to the extent that it was caused by a thing which D incited to be done or said for
the purpose of providing an excuse to use violence In essence, what this means is the qualifying

that the company failed to warm women that if they used the powder on or near the pelvic area,
they were at a higher risk of developing ovarian cancer. Recently, one woman received an award

of East Los Angeles is one of thousands of women who have sued the consumer products giant
Johnson Johnson claiming baby powder caused their disease, pointing to studies linking talc to
cancer that date to 1971, when scientists in Wales discovered particles of talc embedded in
ovarian and cervical tumors. Echeverria alleged Johnson Johnson failed to adequately warn
consumers about talcum powder s potential cancer risks. She used the company s baby powder
on a daily basis beginning in the 1950s until 2016 and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in

Television s Influence On Television
Throughout history television has seen many changes such as improved acting, special effects,
graphics, camera work, ideas, and many other changes. Cop/Investigation shows are the focus of
his paper. Investigation shows in particular have become more in depth and realistic. During the 60
s television exploded. There was 245 million TV sets in American homes. At the time, that was
more TV sets than people in the United States. With all the turmoil with the JFK assassination,
early stages of the Vietnam War, the lifestyle of Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll and others, television
was used to reach out to people. During the 70 s television began to become even more popular
because people started liking it more and people were able to afford it. That changed the way
television was represented and what was on television. Cop shows from these two era s started
getting more realistic. Crime, cop, or investigation shows in the 70 s are more realistic than
those shows of the 60 s. In the 60 s shows like I Spy , and Adam 12 started to turn up. Starting in
1965 I Spy is about a pair of intelligence agents that go on secret missions around the world as a

Origins of the First World War
The First World War was an international conflict which erupted in July 1914 involving various
nations across the world. Many historians and those who have studied the Great War tend to give
varied opinions as to what initially sparked the outbreak. However, although these opinions between
researchers differ, they do all tend to revolve around the hostility between the great powers of
Europe, the violent assassination of the Austro Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and the
controversial pieces of German foreign policy known as Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa, which
according to political theorist Hans Debruck (1899), would not only transform Germany into a

This theory appeared to be very inspirational for Germany as they were unfortunately surrounded
by other dominant powers. With Social Darwinism in mind, the new German king Wilhelm II
sparked serious concern amongst the European powers by establishing two pieces of foreign
policy known as Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa. Weltpolitik, according to Debruck (1899), was a
piece of legislation that was established to help the Germans pursue colonial and naval power in
the grand manner through either peace or war. The other policy, Mitteleuropa, also caused huge
political unrest amongst the great powers as it was viewed as a plan for Europe to be completely
dominated by German empires. So from the establishment of these two pieces of legislation, it
quickly became unequivocal that Germany was becoming a nation of potential threat. Additionally,
the Germans were also accused by the British media of trying to cause a civil war in Ireland by
providing both loyalist and nationalist groups with weapons; another example of Germanys
uprising power and aggression (Padfield, 2005). So with Germany becoming a particularly
aggressive nation, causing the other nations such as Britain to become somewhat solicitous, how
were the other great powers such as Russia and Austria developing? Throughout the expansion of

The On Health Care Reform
The idea of passing the health care reform was to expand health care coverage, however, in order
to do so, many changes must be implemented in order to fulfill the ACA s promises. The first of
which is allowing all individuals to acquire health insurance no matter the age, pre existing
conditions, or other unfair practices. Statistics show that half of Americas have a preexisting
medical condition in which with the passage of the ACA, it allows individuals to acquire health
insurancewithout the worry of having to pay high insurance bills (Moisse, 2011). The reason why
having preexisting health conditions is no longer a factor in acquiring health insurance is because
with the passage of the ACA (as discussed earlier, it was made a mandate to acquire health
insurance) it is expected that it will balance out economically with the people who require more
medical help to their healthier counterparts that do not require as much medical attention
(Goodnough, 2016).
The ACA has Americans searching for a health insurance company, however, not everyone can
afford one. This makes it an issue on whether it is possible to enforce such statute if insurance is
not accessible for all. The solution brought about with Obamacare was the creation of subsidies.
The first form of cost assistance is the use of premium tax credits which lowers premiums. Just as
Medicaid, tax credits depend upon income in which the lower your income the lower the
percentage you will have to pay towards health

In most fictional stories, setting seems to be just the background. In school students identify the

that can be enough. The story is focused on just the characters and setting doesn t really matter. In
the cases of The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and Poltergeist directed by Tobe

The paranormal experiences start to manifest once the spirits attach themselves to the house,
making the setting crucial to the plot. Along with the house being crucial, it was important for
Carol Ann to be taken away in the first instance, otherwise it would be likely the family would
have up and left the home for their safety. The disappearance of Carol Ann into the home creates
that desperation to stick around despite the paranormal experiences. The tension continues to
increase as the family hires different specialists into their home to save their daughter. It is not
until the end of the movie that it is revealed why the house is really haunted in the first place. It
is revealed that their home was built on a graveyard that had been removed the only catch was
that the tombstones were removed, but the bodies stayed put. This detail is imperative to story as
it gives another aspect to the setting and why the house was haunted. If this were any other house
on the block, or in a different city, the paranormal experiences would never happen. The focus on
the house and its actions allow it to develop into its own character in the story and develop
alongside the family

Cultural Identity And Well Being
Assignment 2 Is there a relationship between cultural identity and well being? Introduction This
paper will weigh if there is a relationship between the psychological constructs of cultural identity
and well being. First there will be a consideration on what defines a cultural identity and how it
fits in with psychological development and well being. Followed by an explanation of different
perspectives of well being. BODY Cultural identity is a part of the psychological self concept
that expresses an individual or group s worldview and perceived cultural affiliations. The first
step in finding a societal fit is to establish a cultural identity; this can be on an individual level
and group level. Who am I? And where do I belong? These questions start to form in the human
mind from an early age; it drives humans to explore their worldviews and how and where they
fit in the world. Rosenfeld (1971) argued it is a deep seated primal process that has ensured our
continual survival. By finding others that think and act similarly we are offered some protection
(Erickson, as cited in Carducci 2015). Erickson (as cited in Carducci, 2015) and Maslow (as cited
in Mcleod 2007) argued that the need to belong is a basic building block of human development.
Whatever the reason, the consensus is that humans have an intrinsic need to find a like minded
cultural group to belong to; this chosen affiliation is their cultural identity. A person may identify
with more than one cultural

Corruption In Texas
Texas is an interesting state when it comes to party affiliation because of the size of the state itself.
On one hand, the state of Texas has 4 of the top 20 biggest cities in the United States including
Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin. With all of these large and mostly liberal cities, it is
quite impressive that Texashas held onto top Republican offices since 1994. According to Will
(2016) in his article, A changing Lone Star Statecould change the GOP, Texas is 84.7 percent
urban, and, based on the history of urban states, they usually lean towards the Democratic Party
affiliation. However, according to Sanhueza (2017) in his article Why is Texas So Red, And How
Did It Get That Way?, with this urbanization the Republican party... Show more content on

This could be interpreted as proof that Texas may be changing to some extent, but I think the
reason Trump won by a smaller margin is because of his plans for the wall between Mexico and
Texas and the changing demographics.
Although Texas is a huge Republican state, I think the only issue that could cause Texas to
transform into a swing state is President Trump himself. Let s just start with President Trump s
approval rating. According to Svitek (2017) in his article Poll: Trump approval rating
underwater in Texas, Trump s approval rating in the Republican state of Texas is only 42 percent
while disapproval is 54 percent. Like I mentioned earlier, I believe this is due to the egregious
things that come out of his mouth. The problem that falls into Texas lap is the large population
of of Hispanics combined with having Trump as our President. According to Anderson (2016) in
his article Lone Star Uprising, In 2010, for example, half of all children under 5 years old were
Hispanic, versus only 20 percent of people over 65 years old. This is going to provide some
issues in the future for Texas because if Trump does build the wall between Texas and Mexico and
if Donald Trump keeps favoring strict immigration laws, Texas might

Who Is Madame Defarge In A Tale Of Two Cities
In Book The Second, of Charles Dickens s, A Tale of Two Cities, tensions are running high in
France as the revolution intensifies, which manifests itself in the theme of transformation. Dickens
utilizes characterization by portraying that it is not just the country that is transforming as the
revolution goes on, but the people who are living through it and fighting for what they believe in.
Madame Defarge is by far the best representation as she steadily turns from a kind women who
knit to a cold ruthless killer and one of the main contributors to the revolution. This transformation
can first be seen when it is revealed that Madam Defarge has been knitting a killlist, She has knitted
it herself in her own code, and it will always be as clear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is when the news that old Foulon, a member of the aristocratic class of France, had faked his
own death in order to escape the revolutionaries that Madame Defarge can truly be seen as a
merciless killer he was hauled to the nearest street corner where one of the fatal lamps swung
and there Madame Defarge let him go as a cat might have done to a mouse [...] Once he went
aloft, and the rope broke, and they caught him shrieking; twice he went aloft, and the rope broke,
and they caught him shrieking; then, the rope was merciful and held him, and his head is soon
upon a pike (Dickens 223). Madame Defarge is deliberately teasing the old man who caused pain
and suffering to the peasants, as a predator would tease its prey before it went in for the kill. This
is just one aspect of her torment as Foulon then has to go through the process of being hung three
times before it is finally successful. In this scene, Madame Defarge has without a doubt transformed
from the woman quietly knitting in the wine shop, to a calculated and ruthless

Reduce Alcohol-Impaired Driving
Introduction Every year thousands of innocent bystanders are killed in alcohol related motor
vehicle accidents. In fact, according to the CDC, nearly 1 in every 3 traffic related fatalities in
the United States involves a drunk driver (Centers for Disease Control, 2016). Data from the
National Institutes of Health showed that in 2009 approximately 30 people died in alcohol related
collisions per day (approximately 11,000 deaths per year) (Ying 2013). The problem is not
consistent across the country, however, with data showing that U.S. alcohol related fatalit[ies] are
regional and more prevalent in the south and west (Ying 2013). The issue is especially startling in
the state of Texas, which is consistently at the forefront of drunk driving... Show more content on

In deterrence, rather than attempting to lobby for new legislation, our goal will be to publicize
the existing laws that prohibit drinking and driving; specifically, we aim to inform people about
the large penalties associated with breaking these laws. That being said, we will not be relying on
fear appeals to propel our message. Fear appeals, such as detailing the tragic deaths of innocent
bystanders due to intoxicated drivers, can potentially increase undesirable behavior (Centers for
Disease Control, 2016). In comparison, messages based on establishing or shaping social norms can
have an extremely positive effect. As such, communications and outreach is truly the foundation of
our proposed program. Our series of workshops aims to educate and inform drivers about the
specific consequences and costs of drinking and driving. With wide enough implementation and
reach, these workshops have the potential to help form societal norms that deter drunk driving
through peer pressure. In a study, a paid media campaign was developed with the normative
message, MOST Montana Young Adults (4 out of 5) Don t Drink and Drive. By the end of the
campaign, there was a 13.7% decrease in young adults who reported driving after drinking relative
to a comparison community (Centers for Disease Control, 2016). This example demonstrates the

Escape From Camp 14 Analysis
This passage makes an appearance Вѕ through Blaine Hardens novel Escape from Camp 14. Blaine
Harden writes a thrilling story about Shin Dong Hyuk escape from camp 14, a north Korean
labor camp, where no other man has even had the idea of escaping from the heavily gated exit
points. Shin grew up in the Labor Camp due to the crimes that his family committed generations
ago and is still look down upon. His mother and only brother were executed for murder and
stealing of food in the campthus resulting in a very unstable situation to grow up to. Shin is later is
kidnapped into an underground jail and spends more than 8 months without even seeing a ray of
sun. Although it seem that nothing good would come out of this miserable situation Shin was able
to find the needle in the Haystack. He meets an individual who has been locked up as well and is

a challenge but overcoming the emotional phase for Shin has been very tough . I escaped
Physically, he said I haven t escaped psychologically. As in the selected passage above, Shin
states I am evolving from being an animal , but it is going very slowly, underlines the fact that
always Shin thinks about all the hardships that he had to face to get here. One could put it this
way, even though he was able to escape the camp with his body he left on key organ back in the
camp, his brain. Many of those who have to go through unhumanly hardships such as the
genocide, slavery ,labor camps , and war will always have some sort of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. It takes lifetimes for one to forget about a certain event and it is never easy to let things go

Essay On Voltaire s Candide-Religious Conflict
Religious Conflict in Candide and Our World Today
Candide, the 18th century novel by Voltaire, describes the adventures of a naive young man named
Candide. On his journey, Candide meets many people of different religious persuasions and often
finds them in violent conflict. In the novel, as in the modern world, people often act violently
towards each other, based on religion. Voltaires beliefs are that, everyone should serve God how
they want to instead of being demanded how to serve God from religious officials. The characters
in this work are mostly negative, except the Brethren predecessor, the Anabaptist, and the old
woman. Candide meets people from many religions, such as Calvinist and Jews, who are in violent
conflict, as they still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the only thing he was able to buy after the Jews had conned him (Voltaire 157).
Candide and CunГ©gonde is able to live together. Paquette, a servant at the castle of Baron Von
Thunder Ten Tronckh, and the man she was with, who is a monk named Brother GiroflГ©e all
joined Candide and his group on the small farm (Voltaire 158). He did not want to become a
monk and he became one under his will (Voltaire 146). The reason he took a life in a monastery,
is because his parents left everything to his older brother (Voltaire 146). He had no money, and
this was the only thing he could do to live (Voltaire 146). Therefore, in Brother GiroflГ©e
situation being a religious figure is looked at as a punishment and not a reward. Voltaire, shows
that this is a prime example that religious figures see their occupation as a punishment as well. It
seems that priesthood is something you have to learn to like than to love it. Voltaire shows us that
religious officials don t even believe in what they say and they are just preaching because they
have to. The monk is not happy with his title or spiritually satisfied by becoming one (Voltaire
146). Basically he is saying that he is just a man who is preaching words that he don t understand
the meaning behind (Voltaire

The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On The Activity Of The Enzyme Catalase A Level Biology Project Aims This is an experiment to examine how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide affects the rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase. Background Information Enzymes such as Catalase are protein molecules which are found in living cells. They are used to speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all very specific as each enzyme just performs one particular reaction. Catalase is an enzyme found in food such as potato and liver. It is used for removing Hydrogen Peroxide from the cells. Hydrogen Peroxide is the poisonous by product of metabolism. Catalase speeds up the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide into water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To ensure this is a fair test all the variables except for the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide must be kept the same for all the experiments. Variables that must not be altered include: Temperature, yeast concentration, type of yeast, batch of yeast, volume of yeast, volume of hydrogen peroxide, air pressure and humidity. When measuring the volumes of Hydrogen Peroxide, Yeast and Water the measurement should be taken by looking at the scale at an angle of 90 degrees to it to avoid any parallax error. Predictions I predict that as the substrate concentration increases, the rate of reaction will go up at a directly proportional rate until the solution becomes saturated with the substrate hydrogen peroxide. When this saturation point is reached, then adding extra substrate will make no difference. The rate steadily increases when more substrate is added because more of the active sites of the enzyme are being used which results in more reactions so the required amount of oxygen is made more quickly. Once the amount of substrate molecules added exceeds the number of active sites available then the rate of reaction will no longer go up. This is because the maximum number of reactions are being done at once so any extra substrate molecules have to wait until some of the active sites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing and Contrasting the Novel and Movie Version of The Grapes of Wrath John Steinbeck wrote the The Grapes of Wrath in 1939 to rouse its readers against those who were responsible for keeping the American people in poverty. The Grapes of Wrath tells the story of the Joad family, migrant farmers from Oklahoma traveling to California in search of an illusion of prosperity. The novel s strong stance stirred up much controversy, as it was often called Communist propaganda, and banned from schools due to its vulgar language. Finally, the movie never describes in depth the economic situation of California during the 1930 s. In the movie, the story ends leaving the viewer with the image of California as a land of prosperity. However, the novel attacks the economic situation of California with rage in Chapter 25. In this interchapter, Steinbeck describes how a surplus can make prices so low that the farmers have no income, or how the supply of farm goods can be so scarce that the goods are priced too high to sale. This situation plagues California, and farmers are thrown in poverty. This chapter shows how California is not a safe haven for farmers, but a harsh, devouring environment. The interchapters in the novel form of Grapes of Wrath describe in detail the time period of the storyline, while the movie leaves the spectators unaware of the actual situation of the migrant farmers in the 1930 s. When zinc and hydrochloric acid are mixed together, the reaction took place in an evaporating dish that was accompanied by hydrogen gas. Then we measured out the mass of zinc and chlorine in the reaction and calculated the empirical formula of zincchloride which was ZnCl8. Based on the conservation of mass, we balanced the equation and got Zn(s) + 8 HCl (aq) в†’ ZnCl8 (s) + 4 H2 (g). In the second part of the experiment, we obtained copper wire and sulfur from the instructor. Then we measured out the mass of copper and added proper amount of sulfur to cover the copper wire. During the lab, copper with sulfur was heated, and the reaction was carried out. We saw the blue flame occurred on the crucible. We determined the empirical formula of copper sulfide, which was Cu2S. Then, the equation was balanced easily from the obtained data which was 2Cu + S = Cu2S. Introduction: The purpose of this lab is to become familiar with chemical formulas and how they re obtained. Chemical formulas represent what are produced from a chemical reaction. Compounds composed of molecules are called molecular compounds, which may or may not contain more than one type of atom. It can be shown that an efficient antenna must be comparable to a wavelength in size. (4.6) A second parameter of antennas is the Antenna pattern. Psychedelic Drugs Research Paper Psychedelic Drugs Medical interest in psychedelic drugs has been renewed, but is it possible to overcome their negative stigma and association with counterculture to move forward with their potential medical promise? Psychedelic drugs are poised to be the next major mental breakthrough in health care, yet studying any type of illegal drug is often met with rejection, backlash, or tight regulations (Bushak, 2015). These drugs, if handled correctly, could potentially change the lives of millions of patients across America. Many would suggest that the risk is too high, but in which way do psychedelics present more risks than heavily addicting narcotics or alcohol? This treatment would allow thousands of individuals to manage pain levels, anxiety, and depression in a whole new manner. Legalizing psychedelic drugs for medical purposes would be beneficial to society because of their potential medicinal and therapeutic treatments that heavily outweigh the observed risks. • 12. Individualism In Defoe s The Fortunate Mistress The neoclassical time period served to reinvent the notion of how literature was presented within society, working to introduce several crucial concepts that worked to alter individual perception, such as identity, and construct new ways of thinking. One instance of this newfound individualism can be viewed in Defoe s narrative, The Fortunate Mistress, in which a woman recounts her personal experience and transformation from a virtuous woman to a whore in response to unforeseen and unavoidable situations. Critical interpretations of the narrative have neglected to recognize the significance of how Roxana s role in society and actions depict her as an archetype for the early feminist individual On the contrary, the majority of critics tend to make the focal point the end of the novel in order to solidify the argument that the story was abruptly left unfinished and obscure in nature. As Molesworth puts it, a friendship that has thus far been marked by intimacy, candor, and forthrightness lapses into an unfamiliarity marked by timidity and apprehension (Molesworth 495). The tendency to interpret the ending in such a manner has lead to the viewing of Roxana as an unsuccessful individual, who attempted to deny the norms of social behavior, and as a result of this, was unable to overcome the obstacles presented and ultimately failed. Be that as it may, when taking into consideration how Roxana utilizes perception and reflection to analyze her past experiences, using this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Biblical Allusions In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton Although not always recognizable, biblical allusions enhance the writing of novels, and connect specific themes to the Bible. Throughout Cry, The Beloved Country, Alan Paton has placed numerous biblical allusions, corresponding to the common theme of Man s relationship with God. Some of these allusions pertain to actual verses from the Bibleplaced into the story. Others are abstract and are representations of themes from the Bible. Generally, Alan Paton has ingeniously placed biblical allusions to emphasize the relationship between man and God. Imagine an eden where the grass is rich and thick . The novel opens with visual imagery of a scene of paradise. Unfortunately, over time the streams dry out and too many cattle feed upon the grass (Paton.1). This alludes to the Garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise for Adam and Eve, but because of their sin, they could not stand upon it (Paton.1). When Paton is describing the beautiful land, the narrator commands not to stand upon it[, wearing] shoes, for the ground is holy, being just as it came from God (Paton.1). This statement represents with the story of Moses in which he could not walk towards the burning bush with his shoes on. He is commanded to remove them before approaching the bush. The first chapter of Cry, the Beloved Country is filled with allusions pertaining to the early Old Testament of the Bible. Paton uses a well known Bible verse from Isaiah as is well fits the theme of man s relationship with God and how man s morals have been destroyed in Johannesburg. The narrator hopes that God will open the blind eyes, [and] bring out the prisoners from prison (Paton.122). He may very well be referring to literal prison, where people are held due to wrong doings, or, this may correspond with the African Americans who do not have the rights they deserve. God has called [Kumalo] in righteousness and will hold [his] hand (Paton.122). Paton is trying to show that Kumalo has fear about Johannesburg, but God will be with him and will not leave his side. Regardless of which interpretation of this quote is used, both symbolize important elements of the story in order to enhance the book, and engage the readers. He responded, Each of us follows a circuitous, sometimes difficult pathway in ministry, we learn, we grow, we become more aware of ourselves as people and as ministers. I am a country preacher, and although I have a wealth of formal education and training, I continue to grow and evolve daily, as a person, and as a minister. Renfro continues, the most difficult thing to overcome is our own tendency to be ostentatious a lack of genuineness and openness; you need to go deep in faith and in ministry; my own history, as a country preacher, took a great deal of energy to integrate and allow this to be my greatest strength. When asked what he believed are the advantages/disadvantages of being a servant leader, Renfro responded, a strength and advantage would be to possess a non judgmental presence, to allow people to be the who, what, and where they need to be in our encounters; the disadvantage in that is some people might consider this position as too indeterminate, lacking in absolutes. Renfro commented on the partnerships he has forged in his life of servant leadership, starting with being a Clinical Pastor Supervisor (certified to teach at the graduate level), a Diplomate of the College of Pastoral Supervision, a nationally certified Professional Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains, and also an Ordained Bishop in the Church of ... • 22. Ethical Hacking And Information Security Essay Ethical Hacking and Information Security Merriam Webster defines Hacker as, a person who secretly gets access to a computer system in order to get information, cause damage. But what if I told you that having a hacker is necessary? Ethical Hacking is paramount to the security of our Information Technologies (IT). The task of testing your computers and network for security vulnerabilities and plugging the vulnerabilities you find before the opposition gets a chance to exploit them. Without having the ability to do what devious personnel can do inside your IT, you will never fully understand the holes in your security. It all began in the 1960s at MIT, origin of the term hacker , but the science dates back to 1903 to the first ever documented hacking of an electronic device. In 1932, Marian Rejewski hacked the German Enigma Machine. The Enigma machine was an electromechanical device, equipped with a 26 letter keyboard and 26 lamps, relating to the letters of the alphabet. Inside was a set of wired drums (rotors and a reflector) that jumbled the input. The Enigma used a plug board to swap pairs of letters, and the encryption varied from one key press to the next. For two operators to communicate, both Enigma machines had to be set up in the same way. The large number of possibilities for setting the rotors and the plug board combined to form an exponential number of configurations, and the settings were changed daily, so the machine code had to be broken each day. According to NPR author Anya Kamenetz, 51% out of 841 professors reported that they ve used a trigger warning in advance of introducing potentially difficult material (Kamenetz). University faculty and staff have increasingly used trigger warnings to alert students to the possibility that they might be affected or even harmed by potentially traumatic material. In colleges like Oberlin and UCSB, trigger warnings are given in assumption that universities have a responsibility to protect students from controversial or potentially sensitive material. Joanna Williams, director of the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Kent, points out that the entire canon of English literature could contain warnings as to the emotional nature of the content and the issues covered (Williams 17). This has already begun to happen as some students have called for warnings for classic works like Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart due its description of racial violence, so that those students who have been previously victimized by racism or domestic violence can choose to avoid these works, due to the possibility of a trigger. Williams also mentions that lecturers driven by the pursuit of student satisfaction may well choose to self censor and leave controversial topics out of the curriculum altogether to prevent potential upset (Williams 187). One professor, in a Vox op ed called I m a liberal professor, and my liberal students terrify me, validates this idea by writing that he was afraid of his undergraduate students after a complaint and edited his subject material to avoid upsetting them. He further acknowledges that his colleagues have done the same for fear of being let go (Schlosser). The claims for a right to not be offended has essentially created a challenge for universities and their professors to teach students to be comfortable with challenging ... Under this Act, states are awarded for increasing the number of children below 200 percent of poverty who reside in married couple families (Nathan Gais, 1999). This measure is based on the theory that children in single parent homes are at greater risk than those in two parent families and the best solution is marriage. In short, the federal government is rewarding states for encouraging marriage, a very personal decision. How do states measure the results of having more couples getting married? Over the past five years, the federal government has also found it difficult to measure improvement in states. Currently, success is based in terms of job entry rate or increases over time in job entry rate, retention rate, and earnings gain. States may use quarterly unemployment insurance wage records, surveys, administrative records, or a combination of those data sources. States are given wide latitude in the sources of information they report. Also, to further distort the findings, there is no baseline data with which to make comparisons (Danziger, 2000). What scares me is how little we know about the brain and how it manages to create feelings and thoughts whilst simultaneously controlling the entire body. Why is the brain important? The more we understand the structures of the brain and how the brain controls emotions the better chance we have of increasing wellness. I m not a neuroscientist but the developments in this field are worth your attention. Signing up to build a Naked Tool Kit means only the naked truth is spoken. You won t find any wild claims of seven day fixes here because they don t exist. The naked truth: understudying our body, mind and what we need to do to look after ourselves can be a challenge. Here s some interesting information from Neuroscientist and Psychologist Lisa Feldman Barret s book How Emotions Are Made Your brain has the capacity to make new emotions ALL the time. This idea goes against the classical view of emotions being pre wired and triggered by what happens in the world. This is a radical research claim. There is no one size fits all when it comes to emotions. Variety is the norm! For example, someone might laugh, cry or shout loudly when happy. No matter how confident you are at reading people (especially dealing with people across cultures) you can t assume you know how someone else feels. History documents catastrophic mistakes made in politics and business when this has been attempted. (This means no therapist can truly know how you feel. YOU are the expert of your feelings and how you can manage their impacts). We all have basic wiring to feel unpleasant, pleasant, calm and distressed. We are the architect of our emotions after this. Data shows the brain isn t reacting to the world, it s predicting and making emotions from a basic set of ingredients it has acquired since you were born. Just like making different recipes from the ingredients you have in your kitchen (flour, water, eggs etc); similarly your brain has a set of networks it uses in recipes to make different emotional states. The land consolidation laws forced the farmers to grow potatoes in a tightly packed space, as you don t need much room to grow potatoes. A lot of potatoes good fit in one acre of land and could feed a family for a long time. Since, the potatoes were all grown in one confined space the P. The first issue is of actual loss of control by the defendant. Unlike the previous law of provocation, loss of control need not be sudden. This may beget a problem because the longer the delay between the qualifying trigger and the act of killing, the more difficult it will be to establish actual loss of self control. The On Health Care Reform The idea of passing the health care reform was to expand health care coverage, however, in order to do so, many changes must be implemented in order to fulfill the ACA s promises. The first of which is allowing all individuals to acquire health insurance no matter the age, pre existing conditions, or other unfair practices. Statistics show that half of Americas have a preexisting medical condition in which with the passage of the ACA, it allows individuals to acquire health insurancewithout the worry of having to pay high insurance bills (Moisse, 2011). The reason why having preexisting health conditions is no longer a factor in acquiring health insurance is because with the passage of the ACA (as discussed earlier, it was made a mandate to acquire health insurance) it is expected that it will balance out economically with the people who require more medical help to their healthier counterparts that do not require as much medical attention (Goodnough, 2016). The ACA has Americans searching for a health insurance company, however, not everyone can afford one. This makes it an issue on whether it is possible to enforce such statute if insurance is not accessible for all. The solution brought about with Obamacare was the creation of subsidies. Introduction This paper will weigh if there is a relationship between the psychological constructs of cultural identity and well being. First there will be a consideration on what defines a cultural identity and how it fits in with psychological development and well being. Followed by an explanation of different perspectives of well being. BODY Cultural identity is a part of the psychological self concept that expresses an individual or group s worldview and perceived cultural affiliations. The first step in finding a societal fit is to establish a cultural identity; this can be on an individual level and group level. Who am I? And where do I belong? These questions start to form in the human mind from an early age; it drives humans to explore their worldviews and how and where they fit in the world. Rosenfeld (1971) argued it is a deep seated primal process that has ensured our continual survival. By finding others that think and act similarly we are offered some protection (Erickson, as cited in Carducci 2015). Erickson (as cited in Carducci, 2015) and Maslow (as cited in Mcleod 2007) argued that the need to belong is a basic building block of human development. According to Will (2016) in his article, A changing Lone Star Statecould change the GOP, Texas is 84.7 percent urban, and, based on the history of urban states, they usually lean towards the Democratic Party affiliation. However, according to Sanhueza (2017) in his article Why is Texas So Red, And How Did It Get That Way?, with this urbanization the Republican party... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could be interpreted as proof that Texas may be changing to some extent, but I think the reason Trump won by a smaller margin is because of his plans for the wall between Mexico and Texas and the changing demographics. Although Texas is a huge Republican state, I think the only issue that could cause Texas to transform into a swing state is President Trump himself. Let s just start with President Trump s approval rating. According to Svitek (2017) in his article Poll: Trump approval rating underwater in Texas, Trump s approval rating in the Republican state of Texas is only 42 percent while disapproval is 54 percent. Like I mentioned earlier, I believe this is due to the egregious things that come out of his mouth. The problem that falls into Texas lap is the large population of of Hispanics combined with having Trump as our President. According to Anderson (2016) in his article Lone Star Uprising, In 2010, for example, half of all children under 5 years old were Hispanic, versus only 20 percent of people over 65 years old. This is going to provide some issues in the future for Texas because if Trump does build the wall between Texas and Mexico and if Donald Trump keeps favoring strict immigration laws, Texas might ... • 41. Who Is Madame Defarge In A Tale Of Two Cities In Book The Second, of Charles Dickens s, A Tale of Two Cities, tensions are running high in France as the revolution intensifies, which manifests itself in the theme of transformation. Dickens utilizes characterization by portraying that it is not just the country that is transforming as the revolution goes on, but the people who are living through it and fighting for what they believe in. Madame Defarge is by far the best representation as she steadily turns from a kind women who knit to a cold ruthless killer and one of the main contributors to the revolution. This transformation can first be seen when it is revealed that Madam Defarge has been knitting a killlist, She has knitted it herself in her own code, and it will always be as clear... It is when the news that old Foulon, a member of the aristocratic class of France, had faked his own death in order to escape the revolutionaries that Madame Defarge can truly be seen as a merciless killer he was hauled to the nearest street corner where one of the fatal lamps swung and there Madame Defarge let him go as a cat might have done to a mouse [...] Once he went aloft, and the rope broke, and they caught him shrieking; twice he went aloft, and the rope broke, and they caught him shrieking; then, the rope was merciful and held him, and his head is soon upon a pike (Dickens 223). Madame Defarge is deliberately teasing the old man who caused pain and suffering to the peasants, as a predator would tease its prey before it went in for the kill. This is just one aspect of her torment as Foulon then has to go through the process of being hung three times before it is finally successful. In this scene, Madame Defarge has without a doubt transformed from the woman quietly knitting in the wine shop, to a calculated and ruthless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Reduce Alcohol-Impaired Driving Introduction Every year thousands of innocent bystanders are killed in alcohol related motor vehicle accidents. In fact, according to the CDC, nearly 1 in every 3 traffic related fatalities in the United States involves a drunk driver (Centers for Disease Control, 2016). Data from the National Institutes of Health showed that in 2009 approximately 30 people died in alcohol related collisions per day (approximately 11,000 deaths per year) (Ying 2013). The problem is not consistent across the country, however, with data showing that U.S. alcohol related fatalit[ies] are regional and more prevalent in the south and west (Ying 2013). The issue is especially startling in the state of Texas, which is consistently at the forefront of drunk driving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In deterrence, rather than attempting to lobby for new legislation, our goal will be to publicize the existing laws that prohibit drinking and driving; specifically, we aim to inform people about the large penalties associated with breaking these laws. That being said, we will not be relying on fear appeals to propel our message. Fear appeals, such as detailing the tragic deaths of innocent bystanders due to intoxicated drivers, can potentially increase undesirable behavior (Centers for Disease Control, 2016). In comparison, messages based on establishing or shaping social norms can have an extremely positive effect. As such, communications and outreach is truly the foundation of our proposed program. Our series of workshops aims to educate and inform drivers about the specific consequences and costs of drinking and driving. With wide enough implementation and reach, these workshops have the potential to help form societal norms that deter drunk driving through peer pressure. In a study, a paid media campaign was developed with the normative message, MOST Montana Young Adults (4 out of 5) Don t Drink and Drive. By the end of the campaign, there was a 13.7% decrease in young adults who reported driving after drinking relative to a comparison community (Centers for Disease Control, 2016). This example demonstrates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Essay On Voltaire s Candide-Religious Conflict Religious Conflict in Candide and Our World Today Candide, the 18th century novel by Voltaire, describes the adventures of a naive young man named Candide. On his journey, Candide meets many people of different religious persuasions and often finds them in violent conflict. In the novel, as in the modern world, people often act violently towards each other, based on religion. Voltaires beliefs are that, everyone should serve God how they want to instead of being demanded how to serve God from religious officials. The characters in this work are mostly negative, except the Brethren predecessor, the Anabaptist, and the old woman. Candide meets people from many religions, such as Calvinist and Jews, who are in violent conflict, as they still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was the only thing he was able to buy after the Jews had conned him (Voltaire 157). Candide and CunГ©gonde is able to live together. Paquette, a servant at the castle of Baron Von Thunder Ten Tronckh, and the man she was with, who is a monk named Brother GiroflГ©e all joined Candide and his group on the small farm (Voltaire 158). He did not want to become a monk and he became one under his will (Voltaire 146). The reason he took a life in a monastery, is because his parents left everything to his older brother (Voltaire 146). He had no money, and this was the only thing he could do to live (Voltaire 146). Therefore, in Brother GiroflГ©e situation being a religious figure is looked at as a punishment and not a reward. Voltaire, shows that this is a prime example that religious figures see their occupation as a punishment as well. It seems that priesthood is something you have to learn to like than to love it. Voltaire shows us that religious officials don t even believe in what they say and they are just preaching because they have to. The monk is not happy with his title or spiritually satisfied by becoming one (Voltaire 146). Basically he is saying that he is just a man who is preaching words that he don t understand the meaning behind (Voltaire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
