Elite Running Research Paper
Introduction:
For my Internal Assessment, I am going to investigate the characteristics of elite runners. As a high
school track and field and cross country athlete, I am amazed by the abilities of elite runners, who
seem to glide through the air effortlessly. By researching the characteristics of their running, I
believe that I can become a better runner by implementing some of their mechanics. In theory,
running may seem like a simple motion. However, maintaining proper form while physically
exerting every muscle in your lower body is no simple task. Every four years, the best athletes from
around the globe come together to compete in the Summer Olympic Games. Earlier this year,
athletes from just under 200 countries competed in track and ... Show more content on

To start, I explored the relationship that existed between distance and speed. The speeds of the top
three male and female athletes at each distance have been plotted. For both men and women, there
is an inverse exponential relationship between the speed of the athlete and the event distance. This
trend shows a logical relationship because as the distance of a race increases, the athletes are
going to be slower because running for a longer amount of time requires energy to be conserved.
In order to develop an equation which represents this relationship, I am going to graph the speed
of each athlete against the log of their distance. Because this is an exponential relationship, the
log of x is proportional to speed. This means that when log of distance is plotted along the x axis,
a linear trend will be produced. Once these points are plotted, I will calculate a regression line
using linear regression. Once this equation is found, log x can be substituted into the equation for
the value of x, this new equation would be the regression line for the correlation between speed and

Women During The War Period Essay
The war period changed the life of women, children, indians, and blacks. The minorities of the
country became the most dependable workers during this time. Before the war most of the
workers were males. When the war broke out most of the males had to leave their jobs and go
fight in the war. This meant that there were many jobs openings for those who did not have a
good job or were not working in the industry they wanted to be in. Women were told it was their
patriotic duty to step up and start working. The number of employed women increased to 19
million during the period of war (732). The jobs women were working included everything from
operating heavy machinery to driving to taxis and to being nurses helping with the war effort.
Women having to work changed the lifestyle of children. Before the war the women usually stayed
home to help take care and provide for the children, this changed during the war. Children were left
unattended to during the day since one parent was off and war and the other was off working. This
led to children misbehaving and getting themselves in to trouble since they were left unsupervised
during the day.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There became more black leaders fighting for equal rights during this time as well as more
blacks working. The amount of blacks employed double to 1.2 million during the time of war
(737). Blacks also got increased wages for their efforts in the work force. This was a big deal
because before the war blacks were undermined and were not treated as fairly. Many blacks also
joined the military. They went off to fight for the United Statesand some became pilots or navy
seals. Blacks were fighting for equality and they were receiving new opportunities during the

My Father And Brother
It was late fall in 2009 when I quietly sat on the plane looking after my youngest brother who
was restlessly sitting besides me. We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for
a reason I did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly
speaking to a friend in the aisle in front of us. My mom gravely explained to her that my father
and brother are lost in a bitterly cold and extremely windy snowstorm outside of town. On that
frigid October night, our hearts were colder than ever before. I reflected on the horrible, life
changing situation as I looked out the airplane window into the dark sky. It s like my eyes were
bleeding fear that my heart was feeling, what would I do without my father and brother around? We
finally landed in Kotzebue where our familycame to greet us with warm hugs. They had so much
food and desserts made for when we got to my Aunty s house. Every one we knew stopped by
the house to check on us and tell us it was going to be okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were
already looking for my father and brother outside the town. They searched and searched for them
and could not find them. My dad said they went caribou hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that
they planned on distracting. So my dad and brother split up with my uncle to go and distract the
caribou. In an instant, a foggy snow stormrolled through and they could not see town at all. My dad
was driving the snow machine in circles, trying to

Benefits Of Superweeds
Breeding Unkillable Weeds
In the late nineties crop seeds were genetically modified to be protected from the herbicide
glyphosate. These glyphosate resistant (GR) seeds encouraged farmers to use glyphosate almost
exclusively to kill weeds. Unfortunately, weeds adapted to live through being sprayed with
glyphosate. These weeds are referred to as superweeds. These superweeds invade farmland and are
extremely hard to kill. Currently American farmers have no ways to control theses superweeds
except to spray their fields with increasingly large amounts of glyphosate.
Superweeds are hard to get rid of and encroach on American farmland, forcing farmers to use
heavy doses of poisonous glyphosate. Superweeds can be found in over half of U.S. ... Show more

Their supposed solution is to create and use seeds immune to stronger chemicals such as 2, 4 D
and Dicamba.(Bomgardner) This solution will only make the issue worse; substituting in these
deadlier chemicals is only a short term solution as scientists predict weeds will quickly adapt to
them, and 2, 4 D and Dicamba are extremely hazardous to humans. According to an article that is
supporting this solution, dicamba is considered only mildly toxic to people, pollinators, wildlife,
and aquatic organisms. (Par. 6, Barth) As in, the less poisonous solution is only mildly deadly
to people, animals, and plants. It is unacceptable that farmers will be using toxic chemicals on
our food while breeding even stronger, more resilient weeds to kill American crops. The
underlying cause of superweeds is the genetic engineering of crops. When the biotechnic
company Monsanto introduced GR seeds to American farmers they started a whirlwind of
events. As Bomgardner explains, Farmers liked glyphosate because it vastly simplified weed
control. (Par. 3) Farmers like using GR seeds because they let entire fields of crops be sprayed with
weed killer. This is a simple and easy way to control weeds, but it led to the creation of
superweeds. Superweeds persist because farmers have no other way to control weeds other than
using GR seeds and spraying their fields with glyphosate. There are other ways to kill weeds, such
as manually ripping

Encoding Specificity
Background
For the average college student, taking notes is pretty important because it is how information
is studied. If you where to observe a college classroom you would see people taking notes on
paper, computers, and tape recorders. When test time comes around, they are all on paper, this
could have an effect on testing performance. Encoding specificity principle could affect recall of
information. Explained by Tulving and Thomson (1973) the principle asserts that only that can be
retrieved that has been stored, and that how it can be retrieved depends on how it was stored .
What they are saying is information is retrieved best when context cues are present at the time of
encoding and recall. Based on this principle it is possible that ... Show more content on

In that experiment they where testing recognition memory. A normal college test doesn t just test for
recognition memory, although this does demonstrate the limits of encoding specificity. While in
other studies they looked closely at recall and encoding specificity. They found that scuba divers
recall more words when the learning environment matched the testing environment (Godden and
Baddeley 1975). This shows that extrinsic context effects recall and supports the encoding
specificity principle. The medium of notes is a form of extrinsic context, like the environments, test
score will be higher if the medium of notes and test where to be congruent. In an experiment looking
at associative memory context, participants where presented a word or a word pair with strong or
weak association, they then had to recognize the words from a test list (Tulving, Thomson 1971).
They summarized their results saying, with availability of stored information held constant,
recognition of a previously seen item depends upon its context at the time of the test, recognition
being higher if test context matches the input context than if the input context is removed or
altered. Here a different form of context aids recognition memory. The medium of notes is not the
same type of extrinsic context as the environments from Duncan Godden and Alan Baddeley (1980)

Child Sexual Abuse
All children have certainly many experiences before they became truly mature. A child can face lot
of dangerous things from the environment surrounding them which might seriously affect their
whole life. As definition in the Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act: Child abuse is
any action from adult to a child that it could be harmful to the child s body or mental (Children
Welfare Information Gateway 2007). In 2005, among 3.6 million investigations by Child
Protective Services agencies in the U.S, an estimated 899,000 children (24.97%) were confirmed to
be victims of child abuse(Children s Bureau 2005). In generally, there are 4 typical kinds of child

It is quietly simple to understand that children have to suffer certain visible injuries on their body
causing by abused actions. Sometimes, an abused child terribly bears a fractal hurt as broken
bones or burns. Even though, these damages are not only retaining on physical body but also
changing child s brain cells. In 2005, as report by the Administration for Children Families, amount
16.6% victims were practically subjected to physical abuse in the U.S (Children s Bureau 2005).
Recently researchers in Canada and United States found that neglect can create transform in genetic
material RNA (Fox, M 2008).
Child abuse, especially sexual abuse, has badly influenced on the child s behaviors. Besides the
physical and mental painfulness, abused child might jump into bad social activities, such as:
adolescent pregnant, crime tendency, drugs addiction, etc. (Family Resource Center 2008). Based
on recent studies, there were Вј of abused children became pregnant, almost 59% arrested as
teenagers and 3.8 times attacked by drug additions (Childhelp 2006). Few months ago, there was a

what makes the South a distinctive region, one must explore the comparisons of culture, education,
racism, religion, and identity of the South and its people to the rest of America. Through the use of

The South fought the American Civil War as a movement to separate themselves from the Union
and establish its own national citizenship. As a result of their resounding loss, Southerners chose to
focus their energies on maintaining their individual ethnic group which sets them apart from the
rest of the nation. According to John Shelton Reed, author of The Enduring South, The three
functional characteristics of an ethnic group are that: It serves psychologically as a source of group
identification; it provides a pattern network of groups; and it refracts the national cultural patterns
of behavior and values through the prism of its own cultural heritage. Reed allows his readers to
grasp the intensity in which Southerners met, and still meet today, all three of the functional
characteristics of an ethnic group. Throughout his book, Reed purposes to enlighten the reader that
Southern ness is attained by three different measures: birth, achievement, or unwilling thrust (such
as the African Americans who were brought to America under duress). The Enduring South exposes
the element of Southern identity as pride in its heritage, culture, customs, and ideals. The South, as
it has been nationally defined, is referred to as the eleven ex Confederate states, with the additions
of Oklahoma and Kentucky; and the rest of America is referred to as non Southerners. As a means

The Japanese Political System
From the Meiji Restoration era, democratization efforts were undertaken to modernize Japan. A

Chris Stapleton s Music Analysis
Chris Stapleton released his debut album, Traveller, in the Spring of 2015. This album is
characterized by what I would describe as a traditional country feel, but with a slightly more
modern sound, or to be more technical, a country rock meets blues album. This record, and Chris
Stapleton himself, went relatively unnoticed by the general public after initial release. It was not
until the 2015 CMA awards when Stapleton performed Tennessee Whiskey with Justin
Timberlake that his album truly took off (Welch). Since then, songs from Traveller can frequently
be heard on national country radio stations, as well as on tour, a show I will be attending in May.
The reason I chose to review Traveller is because Tennessee Whiskey sucker punched me in the
best way possible. By this I mean that before I heard the song, I had been ignoring most new
country musicand artists because I had not been connecting with the music like I did in previous
years. For the past seven years of my life I have been listening to almost exclusively rock and metal

seem like a mistake, however the brokenness of the notes only adds to Stapleton s emotional
delivery of the song. Sometimes I Cry is one of the most vocally profound country songs I have
ever found. The first time I listened to it, I genuinely got chills as the whole song is such an
experience. The vocals of this song are similar to Jackie Wilson s song Please Tell Me Why, as
both are weeper style, though Stapleton s is a more subdued version of it. This song best
exemplifies his range on Traveller as it is easy to tell that he puts everything into

Father and Son in Death of a Salesman, and Fences Essay
The role of a father could be a difficult task when raising a son. The ideal relationship between
father and son perhaps may be; the father sets the rules and the son obeys them respectfully.
However it is quite difficult to balance a healthy relationship between father and son, because of
what a father expects from his son. For instance in the narratives, Death of a Salesman, and
Fences both Willy and Troy are fathers who have a difficult time in earning respect from their
sons, and being a role model for them. Between, Death of a Salesman, and Fences, both
protagonists, Willy and Troy both depict the role of a father in distinctive ways; however, in their
struggle, Willy is the more sympathetic of the two. In comparing Willy... Show more content on

Furthermore, unlike Willie and his two sons, Troy s son, Cory, had a job and also assisted Troy
with payments. The portrayal between, Willie and Troy as fathers, has had an impact in the
development of their sons differently. Firstly, Willie has always had high hopes in his older
son, Biff. Willie believed that in raising Biff, he will one day be successful, and ambitious.
However, it is a pity that it never turned out that way. In fact, throughout the story, Biff reveals
that he is not ambitious. Hap, the trouble is we weren t brought up to grub for money. I don t
know how to do it. (Gioia, 2010) It is a shame that Willie is a hardworking man who dreams in
success and Biff was not born with equal desire. It would not be a surprise if Willie felt
heartbreak; to be unable to set an example for his son Biff to follow. On the other hand, Troy
could be described as a character that is selfish. Throughout the story, Fences Troy reveals his
selfishness when interfering with Cory s potential in football, and telling him that working is more
important. You go on down there to that A P and see if you can get your job back. If you can t do
both...then you quit the football team. (Gioia, 2010) Undoubtedly, Troy s interest is more
concentrated in ensuring that the bills get paid, than to agree with Cory playing football.

Essay on Atheism, the Hidden Prejudice
Atheism, the Hidden Prejudice Prejudice has plagued our society since its conception. There have
been great strides taken in educating people to the ignorance of racism, hatred, and bigotry. The
majority people feel that it is wrong to judge someone based on their race, sexual preference, or
sex. Mention to people that you do not believe in a god, and you will often find hate filled stares,
ignorant remarks, and judgments made. To better understand this, we will discuss the following in

It also states that no law should be made against religious establishments, practices, or beliefs. It is
probably not a coincidence that this is the first amendment to the Constitution. The founding fathers

the new America to become a religious government, like the English monarchy. Every person
wants their rights protected and upheld; unfortunately, this is not occurring for those of non
secular beliefs. Race, sexual preference, and religious beliefs are the most common forms of
prejudice. As a society we have made great progress against racial and sexual bigotry. What
seems to be without thought, religious discriminations have been left by the wayside. From
1930 to 2007, polls conducted by the Gallup Organization asked people if they would vote for
the best qualified person for president who happened to be X . X represented Atheist, Baptist,
Catholic, Jewish, Mormon, Black, Hispanic, homosexual, married 3 times, and 72 years of age.
Out of all the categories Atheist showed the least amount of improvement. The 2007 results show
that only 45% would have voted yes. That is only a 5% increase from 1978 and a 4% decrease
from 1999. In 1978, homosexuals had the lowest at 26%, but in 2007 55% said they would vote
yes for a homosexual candidate (Robinson). This study shows that there have been vast
improvements in all areas of discrimination except

The Ethics of Stem Cell Research Essay
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), stem cells are 1 Cells with the ability to
divide for indefinite periods in culture and to give rise to specialized cells. Stem cells are basically
unspecialized cells that can, with proper physiologic or experimental conditions, become specialized
cells. Specialized cells are usually called differentiated cells. These differentiated cells can then be
used to repair damaged cells and eventually cure many diseases and disorders in humans. This could
revolutionize the way society treats health issues. Instead of trying to destroy and sure a disease or
disorder, doctors could simply grow new cells that would be able to repair or replace the damaged
cells and tissue.

Recently, however, there has been some evidence that indicates that adult stem cellsmay be able to
develop into more than one type of specialized cell, but nothing is entirely conclusive. Because of
these problems, adult stem cells are difficult to use for extensive research.
Embryonic Stem Cells
Embryonic stem cell research is the more controversial of the two major types of stem cells.
These types of stem cells are taken from embryos that were produced through in vitro
fertilization. Most embryos used for stem cell research are taken from those donated after in
vitro fertilization. Once the embryo that is to inserted back into the woman?s body is chosen,
scientists use the left over embryos to extract stem cells. After about four or five days after
fertilization, the egg becomes a group of cells called a blastocyst. The inner cell mass of the
blastocyst contains about thirty cells that can be extracted. Once extracted, the cells are put into a
culture dish which contains a nutrient broth or culture medium. The culture dish has been coated
with mouse skin cells in the past. This gives the stem cells something to attach to. Recently,
researchers have been able to grow stem cells without the use of the mouse cells. This eliminates
the risk of any contamination that the mouse cells may have caused. In this dish, the cells divide
and grow in number. As the cells grow and begin to crowd the original plate, they are carefully

Our relationships with others depend on our mentality of thinking. Many people would like to
receive the promotion or save their marriage but, they were not able to properly interact with
others. There are six paradigms of human interaction (Covey, 1989). The fifth habit is to seek to
understand, and then be understood. That means that the listener should not just hear the other
person, but try to empathize with him. Most of the people can hear what others have to say;
however they don t listen to others, the message that other person is trying to relate goes by

He states that the all team members are worth more that each of them separately put together.
The group depends on each other. The differences between the people make the group stronger

of seven habits is to sharpen the saw. Most people tend to forget themselves and tend to stay in
one place. Many of the people tend to focus on the activities that are not relevant to their goals or
values. Every person should continue to grow using the four elements of nature. That involves
staying fit in physical condition. That can be achieved by proper nutrition and daily exercises.

The Influence Of Coffee In Roman Culture
The Romans, as they did with many Greek practices, first adopted and then fundamentally altered
the traditions and meanings behind wine drinking. No longer was wine a symbol of democracy
and developing philosophy, but instead of an ever increasing social, economic, and political divide.
The Greek ideal of consuming wineonly to the point of creating interesting conversation had
become less important in Roman society, which some speculate is because wine was instead
becoming a crutch with which to ignore the daily struggles of Roman life. In the words of Roman
author, Petronius, Ah me, so wine lives longer than miserable man. So let us be merry. Wine is life.
Coffee
While many Greek traditions were admittedly lost once Philip II of Macedonia conquered the
poleis, Greek thought and philosophy continued on, largely adopted by the Romans, expanding out
to the rest of Europe. With European colonization, these traditions spread to an enormous portion of
the world, with one notable example being the United States, who were so enamored with
democracy that we designed our entire political system around ... Show more content on

From its very beginnings coffee was a source of controversy, as can be expected almost anytime
there s change, especially significant change. Coffee came into common use as a substitute for
alcohol in Islamic areas, but many officials worried that the effects of coffee could be comparable
to intoxication. It was at this point that an important discovery was made. Yes, coffee influenced
the mind, but as opposed to the soporific and stupefying effects of alcohol, it actually increased
attentiveness. The other concern however was where the coffee was being consumed. Coffee
houses became social hotspots, but unlike the symposia or the convivia, the social circles included
were not restricted to the elites. The masses were talking, with discussions ranging from politics to
petty gossip, and soon this would spread into

Research on Best Buy Co. Essay examples
Research on Best Buy Co.
The roots of Best Buy Co., Inc. can be traced back to St. Paul, Minnesota. This is where founder
Richard Schulze opened the doors of his Sound of Music store in 1966. Understanding a demand
for consumer audio components and systems in the St. Paul area, Schulze managed to provide a
combination of great prices and excellent service, thus building a strong customer base, which
quickly prompted an expansion into home appliances and video products.
The eighties prompted change as well as the opening of Best Buy s first superstore. During 1983, a
new corporate name was approved and the Sound of Music Company became known as Best Buy

In recent years, Best Buy Co., Inc. has stretched its grasp to the international retail technology
industry. Acquisition of Canada s largest existing consumer electronics retailer, Future Shop,
spearheaded the international expansion in early 2001. This paved the path for the official launch
of the Best Buy s independent label, Redline Entertainment. Within the Canadian sector two
separate superstores exist, Best Buy (Canada) and Future Shop, both of which target a broad
costumer base. Understanding the recognition and loyalty amongst Canadian consumers, Best Buy
has continued the use of the Future Shop named superstores. Since the acquisition of the Future
Shop, Best Buy Co. has expanded the Future Shop locations to its status of 114 stores across
Canada. In addition to Future Shop stores, Canadian Best Buy stores have continued to expand
within the past three years; numbering 30 to date.
The company truly extended itself worldwide in 2003 with the unveiling of a global sourcing
office in Shanghai, China. Currently Best Buy operates three offices within China. They are
located in Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen. The primary function of the China locations is to buy
the products in which Best Buy Co., Inc. sells. Over the next year and a half, Best Buy Co., Inc. is
planning on opening what they refer to as lab stores (Best Buy Geeks Run amok). The company is

Visual Response Essay
In 2001, Morland et al. (2001) investigate the impact of visual dysfunction on cortical visual
responses with three different studies. This studies differ in the sense that the subjects have visual
deficits that are expressed at different levels of the visual system. First, they describe the effects
on the cortical visual maps of abnormal retinal receptor distributions that are found in rod
monochromacy (only possesses operating rod photoreceptors). Subject KN, aged 56 year old has
a complete absence of cone photoreceptors. KN also has a central scotoma which has been
estimated to be between 10 min and 1Вє, but estimates are error prone due to nystagmus. The
results show that the cortex undergoes a remapping whereby the regions that would normally...

almost complete crossing unlike the normal pattern in which approximately half of the fibres

of each hemifield resulted in activations in the hemisphere contralateral to the stimulated eye. This
is consistent with abnormal decussation at the optic chiasm in albinism. They believed that the
reorganization is a likely consequence of developmental and not genetic factors as found in the

Helicobacter Pylori Infection
Abstract
Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium responsible for worldwide chronic bacterial infection in
human. At least half of the world s population host H. pylori that causes various gastric
pathological outcomes with some leading to gastric cancer. The infection by this bacterium has
directly or indirectly caused an impact on economic and general well being of the people; hence,
there is an urgent need to discover diagnostic markers that could be utilized for future
development of diagnostic kits that are highly sensitive and specific. Here, we briefly review
general aspects of H. pylori infection and the diagnostic biomarkers currently used in laboratory
tests for the diagnosis of H. pylori infection with a focus on the role of microfluidic ... Show more

Besides that, protein based diagnostic kits are also available in ELISA and latex agglutination
test cards (20). Elisa Kits are the most specific and sensitive test for detection of H. pylori
infection, however, these tests are expensive and time consuming. Another lab based serological
method is immunoblotting. Immunoblotting is also performed as a lab based serological
method. These assays detect anti H. Pylori antibodies in either fecal, whole blood, serum, or
urine (20, 95 98). Most of the commercial antibody based tests for detecting H. pylori infection
use bacterial lysate or partially purified bacterial antigens. Only a few recombinant antigen based
tests have recently been introduced into the market. Due to higher sensitivity and specificity over
a single antigen, most commercial diagnostic kits apply a mixture of antigenic extract (18 20, 29,
97). However, the names of antigens used in commercial kits are usually undisclosed (Table 2).
The cost of diagnostics is also one of the important factors for developing rapid kits. To decrease the
cost, several parameters should be considered: (1) minimal use of expensive reagents, (2)
inexpensive manufacturing for mass production, (3) quality control, and (4) miniaturization. In
addition, for clinical use of medical diagnostic devices in resource limited settings, environmental

Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Moral Address
During the 1960s, John F. Kennedy gave a speech to America that the world would never forget.
At the end of a highly competitive election, Kennedy used this very speech to commemorate his
presidential election. He lectured the audience with his speech which would be reminisced for
centuries to come. The speech is so renowned for its since of duty and how powerful it is. He
uses a strong appeal to not only his own ethics, but the whole country s ethics united. Kennedy
uses emotional argument to persuade the listeners to take a defensive stand and change their
country. Furthermore, he appeals to the whole world when he refers to different areas of the
globe while also uniting all human beings as one population. Throughout the inaugural address,
Kennedy joins the American people as a country demonstrates how they can become one
population. He relates them with their call to duty that relies on the ethics and morals of himself
and the audience. Kennedy uses logical argument with incredible imagery and emotions
throughout the speech which allows his call to action to be even greater in bonding America as
one. Kennedys goal for his speech is to have it be used as a call to a since of duty to unite all of
his audience. During the time there were many issues. There were threats to freedom, existence of
poverty and misery, and very little peace. Kennedy felt that he had a duty to change that. Kennedy

Essay on The Importance of Holocaust In the Establishment...
The Importance of Holocaust In the Establishment of Israel
The holocaust seems to be a major reason in the establishment of the state of Israel. The state of
Israel was created in May 1948; the Jews finally had a homeland of their own. There were a
variety of long term causes such as the Balfour Declaration, Zionist movement and short term
causes such as the holocaust and the influence of the USA. The area, which is now called Israel, was
part of Palestine; it was under British mandate at the start of World War One.
The holocaust is a term used to define the systematic killing of over 6 million Jews by the Nazi
regime from the years 1933 to 1945. It took place in Nazi occupied territories, ... Show more content

The McDonald White Paper was a document that set limitations to the number of Jews allowed to
immigrate into Palestine.
Another cause for the creation of Israel was a promise made by Britain to the Jews, called the
Balfour Declaration. However this was not the only promise that Britain made concerning Palestine
during this period of time in history. The Balfour declaration stated that if the Jews were to help
support Britain during the First World War, Britain would create a homeland in Palestine for the
Jews once the war ended. However Britain at the same time also made promises to the Arabs living
in the Palestine region that they would give up control over Palestine to the Arabs, and let them
govern their own nation state on the condition that the Arabs revolted and attacked the Turkish
Ottoman empire which had aligned itself with Nazi Germany. On top of these agreements Britain
also committed itself to a third agreement, these was the Picot/Sykes agreement which stated that
Britain and France would divide up Palestine between themselves and disregard the calls to create
nation states for the Jews or the Arabs. The Balfour agreement put pressure on Britain to carry out
their promises. However it would be extremely different for Britain to give the Jews what they had
been promised because of the promises they had made to others.

By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur
Even in this modern age, belief in the miraculous is widespread and is a feature of many world
religions, including the Christian faith where miracles have played a significant role.
It is important attempt to define what a miracle is, as this in itself is a source for debate. Today the
term miracle in many different ways and the idea is open to many interpretations.
A miracle can be defined in a number of ways, firstly as an unexpected change for the better. This

It is with this definition of miracles that the majority of arguments occur, with some claiming
them to be obvious signs of God s reality and active presence within the world, with some such
miracles being incorporated in arguments for religious experience. We see examples of such
RSSE in the gospels. For many Christian s miracles, demonstrate God s care for his creation and
show God s willingness to intervene to change things for the better. Such examples of RSSE are not
confined to the times of Jesus, but have occurred in the fairly recent past especially in the Catholic
Church (who undertake a strict procedure in ascertaining the validity of miracles) e.g. Lourdes, The
miraculous recovery of John Fagen, which lead to the sainthood of John Ogillve etc.
Scholars such as Hume, and scientists such as Dawkins, believe that miracles have natural
explanations and are only seen as miraculous due to ignorance (as science advances forward so
faith retreats). They believe that there are no real miracles but events that can be better explained
in scientific terms (the plagues, walking on water etc) or are simply fabricated.
The German scholar Rudolf Bultmann took a similarly sceptical view of miracles and argued that
the world view of the Bible was unacceptable in a modern, scientific age. Bultmann reasoned that

Many of the customs followed by Americans come from the upbringing of the individual. As adults,

The fees skyrocket and most of these families cannot afford it. They thus end up having children
with low levels of education. Also, due to the cultural diversity, the minority poorer people are
often criminalized thus making life harder for them (Fainstein, 2014) Gentrification improves the
social factors that determine health. Since there was the creation of newer hospitals and facilities,
the communities in Williamsburg benefited from better healthcare. On top of that improved
security and better housing structures made health better in Williamsburg. Since levels of
education are also increased by gentrification, health got a major boost. These show that health,
in general, was improved by gentrification. However, access for the more impoverished families
was still an issue due to the high charges. When the values of property rise, the original residents
are affected both positively and negatively. However, they are affected more negatively as they
are forced to vacate their homes as they can no longer afford the rent. This leads to displacement of
more impoverished families. On top of that, they are forced to spend a lot on rent alone in case they
stay. This might affect their finances, and they could end up bankrupt. Their health may deteriorate
too because of depression as well as higher charges in the hospital. However, they may get
advantages such as improved housing conditions and better security and environment.

The Benefits Of Mental Health Care Coverage
According to stateline.org, In 2014, 43.6 million adults had a mental illness... Fewer than half of
these people received treatment (Ollove). Mental health disorders are a growing epidemic in the
United States. Tens of thousands are diagnosed each year, however few decide to seek treatment.
Costly medications and treatment options are often to blame, as they are difficult for patients to
afford. Mental health care coverage should be included in all health insurance plans because mental
health disorders should be treated the same as any physical illness, it benefits society as a whole,
and many mentally ill patients cannot afford necessary medication or care.

Both should be treated equally, as there are similarities between mental and physical illnesses.
According to The Atlanta Journal and Constitution, People without insurance put off treatment and
their mental health deteriorates... A patient must be institutionalized for an illness that could have
been treated effectively months earlier (Williams). Just as a physical condition deteriorates without
treatment, mental conditions do too. If patients cannot afford to pay for treatment without
coverage, they put it off (Williams). Therefore, both illnesses should be treated equally, because
both require treatment to prevent them from

Technology In Fashion Technology
Imagine a world where humans are not fighting against technology, but are working alongside
these machines... computers are built by humans to basically to make our lives easier. When we
apply technology into fashion, we begin to adapt and become better equipped for the days ahead.
In context, as warmer temperatures, to raise humans to develop synthetic breathable fibers to keep
us cool. The popularity of technology such as iPods, smartphones, and artificially intelligent
devices are growing and humans are becoming attached to their devices. Occasionally, I try to
have one day technology free but, the main reason why me and majority of humans can t live
without their devices is mainly that we programmed them with our personality. Having a
personalized device is so significant and smart devices learn from us as we learned from them.
Technology in fashionlike my Apple Watch which is called a wearable. My Apple Watch tracks my
heart rate, notifies me when to stand or exercise when I ve been sitting too long, even tells me when
to drink water and a plethora of things, but the main thing to take from this is that having a personal
trainer encourages me to practice healthy living. If individuals were to adapt to these changes in
fashion technology, they would better enhance their cognitive function.
A known form of fabrication in the fashion technology world is 3D printing which uses strands of
plastic or polyamide that is easily moldable to make whatever you want, like fidget

The Rise of Consumer Culture Essay
Consumer culture has developed over the years for many different reasons such as the demise of
the social class and embourgeoisement which are both key factors in capitalism and has therefore
led to the argument that consumer society merely reflects the rise of capitalism which I plan to
discuss within this assignment. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant
McCracken (1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of
consumer society. McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a
specific point in time in which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes
within culture and how these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society.... Show more

However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture
began in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass
change in people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in
relation to fashion during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed
and represented the shift in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by
new technology within the textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through
improvements in printing technology which allowed and supported mass advertising to all
members in society. The third was the development of the department store. According to
McCracken the Department store changed the nature of purchasing activity because department
stores essentially institutionalized consumption and changed the way in how consumers were
influenced and to how much influence they were subjected to in relation to purchasing goods and
services. From looking at the work of McCracken and McKendrick it is clear that the development
of the consumer society came from an increase in the supply and demand mindset which is a key
factor or element within a consumer society. Also the change in meaning in relation to consumption
is another example of the development of the consumer culture because the term consumption was
ignited through a new sense of

Case Study The Wilma
Per your request I have analyzed how to properly account for The Wilma. As of January 15, 2015
The Wilma is impaired and needs to recognize an impairment loss in the amount of $2,331,823.20.
The Wilma has changed in use and condition therefore it needs to be reviewed for impairment.
GAAP requires assets to be investigated for impairment, only when certain events or changes occur
that may cause an asset to not be recoverable. (b) A significant change in the use of the asset and its
physical condition. The Wilma originally manufactured high tech aquatic gear and was then
converted into a commercial warehouse to lease out; thus changing its physical condition and the
way it is being used. (f) Realization that the asset will be disposed of long before the end of its
estimated life. Flintstone Holding expects that The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be not recoverable the carrying amount has to be larger than the sum of the expected
undiscounted cash flows and disposition of the asset. As of January 1, 2015 The Wilma has a
carrying cost of $4,875,000 (cost of $6,500,000 minus 10 year depreciation of 1,625,000). The lease
for 2015 2024 will generate an undiscounted cash flow of $2,400,000. With the over abundance of
commercial warehouse space The Wilma only has a 50% chance of renewing the lease for
another 10 years (2025 2034). Therefore the total undiscounted cash flow would be $3,600,000.
The carrying cost of The Wilma is larger than the undiscounted cash flow calculated, making the
carrying amount of The Wilma not recoverable. The impairment loss will be the amount that the
carrying amount exceeds the fair value by. The discounted fair value of The Wilma is
$2,543,176.80; therefore the impairment loss to be recognized is $2,331,823.20 (carrying amount
of $4,875,000 minus the fair value of $2,543,176.80) (FASB, 2015, ASC para.

  • 2. Elite Running Research Paper Introduction: For my Internal Assessment, I am going to investigate the characteristics of elite runners. As a high school track and field and cross country athlete, I am amazed by the abilities of elite runners, who seem to glide through the air effortlessly. By researching the characteristics of their running, I believe that I can become a better runner by implementing some of their mechanics. In theory, running may seem like a simple motion. However, maintaining proper form while physically exerting every muscle in your lower body is no simple task. Every four years, the best athletes from around the globe come together to compete in the Summer Olympic Games. Earlier this year, athletes from just under 200 countries competed in track and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start, I explored the relationship that existed between distance and speed. The speeds of the top three male and female athletes at each distance have been plotted. For both men and women, there is an inverse exponential relationship between the speed of the athlete and the event distance. This trend shows a logical relationship because as the distance of a race increases, the athletes are going to be slower because running for a longer amount of time requires energy to be conserved. In order to develop an equation which represents this relationship, I am going to graph the speed of each athlete against the log of their distance. Because this is an exponential relationship, the log of x is proportional to speed. This means that when log of distance is plotted along the x axis, a linear trend will be produced. Once these points are plotted, I will calculate a regression line using linear regression. Once this equation is found, log x can be substituted into the equation for the value of x, this new equation would be the regression line for the correlation between speed and ... • 3. Women During The War Period Essay The war period changed the life of women, children, indians, and blacks. The minorities of the country became the most dependable workers during this time. Before the war most of the workers were males. When the war broke out most of the males had to leave their jobs and go fight in the war. This meant that there were many jobs openings for those who did not have a good job or were not working in the industry they wanted to be in. Women were told it was their patriotic duty to step up and start working. The number of employed women increased to 19 million during the period of war (732). The jobs women were working included everything from operating heavy machinery to driving to taxis and to being nurses helping with the war effort. Women having to work changed the lifestyle of children. Before the war the women usually stayed home to help take care and provide for the children, this changed during the war. Children were left unattended to during the day since one parent was off and war and the other was off working. This led to children misbehaving and getting themselves in to trouble since they were left unsupervised during the day.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. My Father And Brother It was late fall in 2009 when I quietly sat on the plane looking after my youngest brother who was restlessly sitting besides me. We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for a reason I did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly speaking to a friend in the aisle in front of us. My mom gravely explained to her that my father and brother are lost in a bitterly cold and extremely windy snowstorm outside of town. On that frigid October night, our hearts were colder than ever before. I reflected on the horrible, life changing situation as I looked out the airplane window into the dark sky. It s like my eyes were bleeding fear that my heart was feeling, what would I do without my father and brother around? We finally landed in Kotzebue where our familycame to greet us with warm hugs. They had so much food and desserts made for when we got to my Aunty s house. Every one we knew stopped by the house to check on us and tell us it was going to be okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were already looking for my father and brother outside the town. They searched and searched for them and could not find them. My dad said they went caribou hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that they planned on distracting. So my dad and brother split up with my uncle to go and distract the caribou. In an instant, a foggy snow stormrolled through and they could not see town at all. My dad was driving the snow machine in circles, trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Benefits Of Superweeds Breeding Unkillable Weeds In the late nineties crop seeds were genetically modified to be protected from the herbicide glyphosate. These glyphosate resistant (GR) seeds encouraged farmers to use glyphosate almost exclusively to kill weeds. Unfortunately, weeds adapted to live through being sprayed with glyphosate. These weeds are referred to as superweeds. These superweeds invade farmland and are extremely hard to kill. Currently American farmers have no ways to control theses superweeds except to spray their fields with increasingly large amounts of glyphosate. Superweeds are hard to get rid of and encroach on American farmland, forcing farmers to use heavy doses of poisonous glyphosate. Superweeds can be found in over half of U.S. ... Their supposed solution is to create and use seeds immune to stronger chemicals such as 2, 4 D and Dicamba.(Bomgardner) This solution will only make the issue worse; substituting in these deadlier chemicals is only a short term solution as scientists predict weeds will quickly adapt to them, and 2, 4 D and Dicamba are extremely hazardous to humans. According to an article that is supporting this solution, dicamba is considered only mildly toxic to people, pollinators, wildlife, and aquatic organisms. (Par. 6, Barth) As in, the less poisonous solution is only mildly deadly to people, animals, and plants. It is unacceptable that farmers will be using toxic chemicals on our food while breeding even stronger, more resilient weeds to kill American crops. The underlying cause of superweeds is the genetic engineering of crops. When the biotechnic company Monsanto introduced GR seeds to American farmers they started a whirlwind of events. As Bomgardner explains, Farmers liked glyphosate because it vastly simplified weed control. (Par. 3) Farmers like using GR seeds because they let entire fields of crops be sprayed with weed killer. This is a simple and easy way to control weeds, but it led to the creation of superweeds. Superweeds persist because farmers have no other way to control weeds other than using GR seeds and spraying their fields with glyphosate. • 6. Encoding Specificity Background For the average college student, taking notes is pretty important because it is how information is studied. If you where to observe a college classroom you would see people taking notes on paper, computers, and tape recorders. When test time comes around, they are all on paper, this could have an effect on testing performance. Encoding specificity principle could affect recall of information. Explained by Tulving and Thomson (1973) the principle asserts that only that can be retrieved that has been stored, and that how it can be retrieved depends on how it was stored . What they are saying is information is retrieved best when context cues are present at the time of encoding and recall. Based on this principle it is possible that ... A normal college test doesn t just test for recognition memory, although this does demonstrate the limits of encoding specificity. While in other studies they looked closely at recall and encoding specificity. They found that scuba divers recall more words when the learning environment matched the testing environment (Godden and Baddeley 1975). This shows that extrinsic context effects recall and supports the encoding specificity principle. The medium of notes is a form of extrinsic context, like the environments, test score will be higher if the medium of notes and test where to be congruent. In an experiment looking at associative memory context, participants where presented a word or a word pair with strong or weak association, they then had to recognize the words from a test list (Tulving, Thomson 1971). They summarized their results saying, with availability of stored information held constant, recognition of a previously seen item depends upon its context at the time of the test, recognition being higher if test context matches the input context than if the input context is removed or altered. Here a different form of context aids recognition memory. The medium of notes is not the same type of extrinsic context as the environments from Duncan Godden and Alan Baddeley (1980) experiment on recognition memory on scuba ... This record, and Chris Stapleton himself, went relatively unnoticed by the general public after initial release. It was not until the 2015 CMA awards when Stapleton performed Tennessee Whiskey with Justin Timberlake that his album truly took off (Welch). Since then, songs from Traveller can frequently be heard on national country radio stations, as well as on tour, a show I will be attending in May. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant McCracken (1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of consumer society. McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a specific point in time in which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes within culture and how these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society.... However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture began in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass change in people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in relation to fashion during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed and represented the shift in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by new technology within the textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through improvements in printing technology which allowed and supported mass advertising to all members in society. Also the change in meaning in relation to consumption is another example of the development of the consumer culture because the term consumption was ignited through a new sense of ... • 42. Case Study The Wilma Per your request I have analyzed how to properly account for The Wilma. As of January 15, 2015 The Wilma is impaired and needs to recognize an impairment loss in the amount of $2,331,823.20. The Wilma has changed in use and condition therefore it needs to be reviewed for impairment. GAAP requires assets to be investigated for impairment, only when certain events or changes occur that may cause an asset to not be recoverable. (b) A significant change in the use of the asset and its physical condition. The Wilma originally manufactured high tech aquatic gear and was then converted into a commercial warehouse to lease out; thus changing its physical condition and the way it is being used. (f) Realization that the asset will be disposed of long before the end of its estimated life. Flintstone Holding expects that The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be not recoverable the carrying amount has to be larger than the sum of the expected undiscounted cash flows and disposition of the asset. As of January 1, 2015 The Wilma has a carrying cost of $4,875,000 (cost of $6,500,000 minus 10 year depreciation of 1,625,000). The lease for 2015 2024 will generate an undiscounted cash flow of $2,400,000. With the over abundance of commercial warehouse space The Wilma only has a 50% chance of renewing the lease for another 10 years (2025 2034). Therefore the total undiscounted cash flow would be $3,600,000. The carrying cost of The Wilma is larger than the undiscounted cash flow calculated, making the carrying amount of The Wilma not recoverable. The impairment loss will be the amount that the carrying amount exceeds the fair value by. The discounted fair value of The Wilma is $2,543,176.80; therefore the impairment loss to be recognized is $2,331,823.20 (carrying amount of $4,875,000 minus the fair value of $2,543,176.80) (FASB, 2015, ASC para. ...
