Anger In The Absurd Theatre
Anger is a feeling that can be associated with physiology or psychology. Many factors such as
race, class, gender, ethnicity, religion can cause anger. Anger could be perceived as something
natural but also could be perceived as something disastrous. Anger is not like any feeling as
because it is the most severe feeling. Although it is the most dangerous feeling, people always get
angry due to many reasons (Kim10). Goldhor lerner stated that: Anger is a signal .... It may be a
message that we are being hurt, that our rights are being violated; that our needs or wants are not
being adequately met or simply that something is not right (1). According to Seneca, anger is a
catastrophe that leads to bad things. He argued... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is used to describe working class life. The writers in that time tended to use real words, real
behaviors and real thoughts. The settings that were depicted in the plays were also real. Osborne
s Look Back in Anger, (1956) reflect his criticism of his society. Osborne s anger was represented
by the major character, Jimmy Porter, who is angry and he is not satisfied with the society. The
struggle between the middle and the upper classes was tackled through Porter and Alison. The
title of Look Back in Anger reflects his anger. Most of the titles at that time reflected anger,
wrath, and depression as people were not satisfied with the authority and the social system
(Innes 98 103). Osborne s The Entertainer (1957) was a significance work. Osborne s hero is
Archie Rice, who rejected his society and everything in his life. The settings and the titles of
Osborne s plays were accurately chosen to deliver his message. Osborne reflected how people
were not happy and they were really suffering at that time. Osborne criticized the political system in
most of his play (Innes

Raynaud s Phenomenon Analysis
Raynaud s phenomenon is an episodic vasospasm of the peripheral digital arteries and veins that is
triggered by extreme heat or cold, emotional stress, or chemical stress such as exposure to
polyvinylchloride1 3. It is characterized by a signature three color progression of the fingers or toes
starting with pallor and moving to cyanosis and ending with erythema as the digits are reperfused.
Primary Raynaud s phenomenon is having these attacks as an isolated symptom without any
underlying conditions. Secondary Raynaud s phenomenon commonly occurs in individuals with
connective tissue disease, most often systemic sclerosis1,2. Treatment with phosphodiesterase 5
inhibitors such as tadalafil, sildenafil, and udenafil are effective at reducing... Show more content on

This may be sufficient in individuals with a mild primary condition, but for those with more severe
attacks and attacks secondary to connective tissue diseases, these lifestyle modifications may not be
enough1. Secondary Raynaud s phenomenon results in persistent small vessel damage which leads
to digital ulcers that can be complicated with infections. These infections have the potential to
become necrotic and gangrenous1. Therefore, the focus of this review is on treatment options to
reduce the frequency, duration, and severity of primary and secondary Raynaud s phenomenon
attacks, as well as improve the quality of life of individuals suffering from this condition with the
goal of educating providers on the safest and most effective

Color Imagery In We By Yevgeny Zamyatin
The Russian art theorist Wassily Kandinsky once said that Color is a power which directly
influences the soul. In other words, what Kandinsky said means that colors can be used to
evoque very different types of emotions and ideas. Colors always have a deeper meaning than
what they are actually used for, no matter if it is used in art or in literature. The classical
dystopian novel We, which was published in 1924 by Yevgeny Zamyatin, is a great example of a
work of literature that uses colorimagery. The dystopia within this book, United State is set 200
years in the future, in a totalitarian world that has total control over their citizens lives, who are
called numbers. The readers get to know this society through the perspective of D 503,... Show

Throughout the whole novel, Zamyatin uses the color yellow to symbolize complexity and
rebellion, which are qualities from the primitive and ancient world, that United State tries to
suppress. One of the main ways Zamyatin uses this color is in connection to I 330, who is the
second main female character that is introduced into the book and D 503 s first love interest.
The first time I 330 s association with yellow appeared in this story is in Record Six, when D
503 visited I 330 for the first time at the Ancient House, the only building in the entire society
that is not made out of glass. In this scene, I 330 went to a room and came out dressed in short,
bright yellowish dress, black hat, black stockings (28). The bright yellow dress described in this
scene is a relic from ancient times, before the Green Wall was built and two hundred year war
occured. Seeing I 330 in this attire definitely made a very big impression on him because it was
the first time ever that D 503 personally interacted with the primitive world. This interaction with
her had such a deep effect on D 503 that he even sees and mentions the color yellow, when I 330
is not around, mostly when he feels he is doing something against the state. I 330 is the only
character that takes on different shades of the color yellow. As portrayed in Record Seventeen,
while D 503 searched for I 330 in the Ancient House, he fell into one of its mystery corridor and
he found himself with the doctor that had previously given him a letter that excused him from
work. While waiting for I 330 he recalled the familiar saffron yellow silk, the smile bite, the eyes
with their curtains drawn (93). This description shows another dress from the ancient world in the
same color as the first, but in a darker shade. The fact that yellow is one of the only color that takes
on different shades means that it is complex, and that there are more dimensions to it.

Feminism One Of The Biggest Topics Today And Is Defined
Feminism one of the biggest topics today and is defined as the public support of the rights of
women on the basis of equality of the sexes. In fact, the main reason feminism is such a popular
topic is because of how men were treated as the dominant gender .
Back then, women were given specific roles by society to be housewives and only cook and take
care of the children. The idea of feminism, however, did slowly develop until in 1848 after their
oppression, when the first Women s conference was held in Seneca Falls, America. Ever since then,
the amount of feminists and feminist activities around the world have increased a great amount.
Feminism has become a major subject in the media, being represented in television, music and even

However, in this situation, Josephine rejects her husband not only because of the abuse, but
because she does not need a man to help her get by. Although, soon after, Serge comes back at
night, more drunk and violent than before, to knock some sense into Josephine. This situation itself
seems to be a setup for another one of those situations where the lady is in trouble, unable to
defend herself and a knight in shining armour(who is male), comes just in time to rescue her and
ensure the happy ending. However, in this situation, Josephine and Vienne manage to knock out
Serge before any real damage. This sends the message that a hero is not always needed for the
damsel in distress. In this situation, two heroines got the job done. In conclusion, Josephine
becomes more of a feminist during her growth without her husband. With enough courage and
strength to leave her husband and grow from an ill thief to happy woman making chocolate shows a
sense of independence as a woman.
The most focused conflict of the film Chocolat is the conflict between Vienne and the Comte. Since
the Comte, played by Alfred Molina, is in control of most of the citizens of the church, this
becomes more of a person vs society conflict at the beginning. From the beginning of the film after
Vienne and her daughter arrive, the Comte is convinced that Vienne and her daughter, Anouk,
played by Victoire Thivisol, would bring trouble to

The Oil And Natural Gas
Everyday oil and natural gas is being found in new areas and being sought after by companies
who want to drill for and use those resources. More often than not these resources are under land
already owned by someone else so the companies must come to an agreement with the landowner
in order to get permission to drill for the oil and natural gas. Oil and gas are valuable commodities
for landowners and can mean an extra income. Instead of selling the land and completely giving up
their stake in the potential fortune most owners decide to negotiate a leasewith the company in
which both parties benefit from the resources.
Just because someone owns a piece of land does not mean he or she has the right to set up a lease

A landman (or woman) is a person whose job it is to secure leases on as large an area as possible
and they are either employed by oil and gas companies or work independently. Because these men
and women are professionals and are trained in the art of making sells using all possible tactics, it
is usually advised that landowners seek an attorney or some type of professional to assist in the
negotiations.
A lease in this context is a legal document or contract between a landowner who is the lessor and
a company (or individual) who is the lessee that grants the lessee rights to exploration and
development rights to potential subsurface mineral commodities. Today there is no standard oil
and gas lease form. At one point the Producers 88 form was considered the standard form but
today various oil and gas companies utilized several different types of lease forms as their starting
point for negotiations. Generally their are two broad types of oil and gas lease forms based on the
timing of the lease bonus payments. The most commonly used type is the Pay Up lease which no
bonus payments are due after the signing of the lease, instead the lessor gets one hundred percent of
the lease bonus money combined with annual rental payments up front. The other type is the Rental
Lease that is not as commonly used in which the lease, can lapse if the rentals are not paid in a
timely manner by the company which would ultimately result in the termination of

Extracting Natural Gas From Shale And Other Rock Formation
Resulting of recent technological innovations improving the ability of extracting natural gas from
shale and other rock formation. The popularity of hydraulic fracturing remains leading in the
direction of new venture opportunities and increasing growth for the natural gas and oil production
industry. With the development, comes risk and scrutiny. According to Robert W. Howarth and
Anthony Ingraffea natural gasextracted from shale comes at too great a cost to the environment,
and must be illegal. Natural gas from shale remains vastly proposed as clean, comparable with oil
and coal that can decrease the outpouring while still satisfying rich fossil fuel over coming decades
until a switch to renewable energysources exists. However shale gasbeing clean remains false, and
it used as bridge fuel stays a terrible idea. Shale rock formation can hold large quantities of
natural gas, however that gas remains mostly made up of methane. (Natural Gas:Should fracking
stop?) For a long period of time a majority of this gas was not economically reachable. However
over the past decade, two new technological advancements recently combined allowing extracting
of the gas. This process is known as hydraulic fracturing, in which extremely high pressured water
with additional chemicals forced two to three kilometers in the ground is extracting the gas. The
manufacturing sources claim that fracking has produced over one million natural gas wells since
the 1940 s. Only 2% of these wells

1. Compare this data with your baseline data. How did increasing the afferent arteriole radius affect
glomerular filtration rate?
gt; gt;Increasing the afferent arteriole radius pushed the glomerular pressure, the glomerular
filtration rate, and the volume of urine to be higher than the baseline data. Increasing the afferent
arteriole radius increased the glomerular filtration rate. 2. Under these conditions, does the fluid

2. How could you adjust the afferent or efferent radius to compensate for the effect of the reduced
pressure on glomerular filtration rate and urine volume? Use the simulation to determine your
answer.
gt; gt;Increase the afferent radius or decrease the efferent radius.
3. What changes are seen in nephron function when the valve is closed?
gt; gt; There was no glomerular filtration rate and no urine production.
4. Why were these changes seen? gt; gt; When the valves are closed simulating blocked collecting
ducts, the built up pressure caused by the increased solute volume opposes the forces driving up the
filtration tasks of the kidney. The nephrons could burst if the filtering task is continued so the
kidney is just trying to save itself.
5. Is the kidney functional when the glomerular filtration rate is zero? Explain your answer.
gt; gt;No. When glomerular filtration rate is zero, it means nothing is filtered. The kidney is
dormant and not carrying out any upfront task to stay functional.
6. What is the major ingredient that needs to be removed from the blood?

In today s society, we continually live in fear that something catastrophic is waiting right around
the corner. The genre of science fiction has made that fear even more prominent in today s
society with a plethora of movies showing a dystopian world. Popular movies like The Hunger

superiority and to earn their freedom much like roman times in the coliseum. Hunger Games isn t
the first movie to play on this fearthough. I Am Legend, Minority Report, and Invasion of the Body

Describe
In preparation for this reflection, I began by thinking about what cultural event I would most like
to attend, what would work for the assignment and what would also benefit me in my personal
life by actually forcing me out of my comfort zone to experience things I never have before.
Because Christianity is such a huge part of my life I immediately thought I would want to do
something based on another religion since I ve never really gone out of my religious comfort
zone, but for this assignment I chose to go to a gay bar. The reason I chose to do this was because I

I think it would have a been a very different experience if we had gone when we were 21 and
could drink at the bar, I think it would have changed the experience a little bit. We arrived at the
bar at a little bit after 10 which is when the dance floor opened and stayed until around 1 in the
morning.
Examine
The part of this experience that was the most compelling to me was almost the sense of
community that I felt was just there between the gay community. Like there were a lot of groups
of people there that night that didn t even know each other, but you would never guess that by
the way they acted like they had been friends for years. Even towards me and my roommate who
they didn t know, was just some straight stranger walking in and observing them they were so
nice and accepting. They were willing to let us into their environment, knowing that we were not
a part of it and I felt no judgment or anything. My fears that I had felt earlier in the day before
going were put to rest, while some people were unusually friendly to me no girls really tried to hit
on me, which was really relieving.
As mentioned above, the most shocking thing I noticed was the community, or the way they
socialized with and accepted themselves and each other. I think

Enrico Fermi s Life
It is no good to try to stop knowledge from going forward. Ignorance is never better than
knowledge, the great architect of the nuclear age, Enrico Fermi once said. For those who don t

state of Illinois. Enrico Fermihad a love of science that originated in Italy but grew in Illinois. He
made multiple key discoveries in Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Energy, and the Uraniumatom. With
Enrico Fermi s work on Chicago Pile 1, Fermi pushed the world into the Nuclear Age. Enrico

Fermi wanted to work together on a groundbreaking project. Albert Einstein wrote a letter to
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt regarding the possible construction of a nuclear bomb. He
explains that based on research done by Enrico Fermi and another scientist, Leo Szilard, there is
probably cause to believe that ...the element uranium may be turned into a new and important
source of energy in the immediate future. The letter is requesting permission from the president to
purchase uranium, funds for the project, and a location to work with harmful chemicals. It was the
president s response to this letter that led Fermi to Illinois. Roosevelt gave his permission to the
creation of a nuclear weapon, provided government funding, and used the suggestion from
Samuel K. Allison to choose the secluded location of underneath the stands at Stagg Field at the
University of Chicago, which was originally built as a racket court. They chose this location
because it was a perfect size, about 30 feet wide, 60 feet long, and 26 feet tall. Additionally, the
area was slightly below ground level and nobody had used it for years. Illinois citizens also had
not used the Stagg Field, which was above the location of the project, since the University of
Chicago had given up American Football in 1939. Furthermore, the area was not heated and very

like an eternity. The four of us took off in unison and I could tell I was going to have to give this

The reason she felt this way, I think, was because she was an intern and I am an assistant. There

The Protagonists In The Last Of The Mohicans
The characters in The Last of The Mohicans; specifically Hawkeye, Uncas, and Chingachgook,
because these three protagonists remind me of the heros I remembered in video games and
movies. I seen not only the main protagonists in other stories act similar to Hawkeye, Uncas, or
like Chingachgook; but I seen people who are viewed as supporting characters in a way.
Hawkeye was given advice from Chingachgook to listen, so Hawkeye won t hear a lie. I view
Hawkeye as a man who would listen to advice for a better path to follow that is best for not only
himself, but for his group. I watched a movie with a character who was constantly nervous, worried,
and overthinks his situations. The main character then has made a terrible mistake by leading a

The Problem With Illegal Aliens
Introduction Despite the multiple laws and policies that were implemented in the United States,
there is still a problem with illegal aliens or immigrants. The U.S. government has spent millions of
dollars to secure our southern border but, with that being said, the government has charged the
Department of Homeland Security to create and implement new and innovative ways to justify and
solidify those polices. In this case study, there will be a focus and analytical approach to three of
the main issues which continue to surface on immigration enforcement. These issues are: who is an
illegal alien; who can detain illegal aliens; and when can they be deported?

This business specializes in the slaughter and distribution of turkey parts. In the late 80s and 90s
this was one of the largest meat plants in the county. In 2008, two of the company s top officials
were charged with hiring undocumented workers for about eight years before 300 plant workers
were arrested... Most of the workers arrested in the raid have been deported, but others have been
convicted of using fraudulent documents to obtain their jobs, the newspaper said (Savage, 2009).
This situation along with many others lead to the demise of the company many years later. Many
illegal aliens migrate to the United States for work opportunities so they can support their families.
Many people have negative attitude toward these individuals but, not all of the individuals that
migrate to the United States have bad intentions. Many just are looking for the pursuit of happiness
in the American way.
Who can detain illegal aliens? Any law enforcement branch including the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) operating under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) has the
right to detain any person seeking illegal entry into the U.S. This Act was passed by congress and
is the main law that legislates and regulates immigration. This authority is prescribed by the
Secretary of DHS to all law enforcement agency operating from the local level all the way up to the
federal level.

Barbara Gaston was an old family/friend, who I didn t have much history on. She grew up in
Cincinnati, OH. She married at age 23 and defined herself primarily as a wife and mother for the
next 20 years. She was a young mother and wife, which was not untypical during this time. She
was the first born of four children, and later lived in a blended household. Her father worked in
copper mines, logging, and road construction. While her mother on the other hand was a stay at

The first reason why people think so is that online games are helps people to communicate to each

are good and helpful. The second reason is that online games are improving the motor skills and
reaction, because when you playing online games you need to do all fast and good (Nauchpok,

Effective Communication In Communication
Avoid Interrupting
Resist the urge to finish sentences and/or interrupt the person speaking. This can come across as
rude and disrespectful.
This is especially important for an interview because you are trying to act as the best candidate for
the job and first impressions are crucial. You don t want your future boss to think of you as rude or
disrespectful.
Facial Expressions
Facial expressions come a long way when it comes to communicating. They show emotions and
express how you are feeling. If you are disgusted or mad, that will show through your facial
expressions. You want to smile while someone is speaking to you, and keep a positive expression
on your face. If you are the one speaking, keep your chin up and continue to keep that smile on
your face to show that you are interested in what you are saying and what is being said to you.
This is important in all cases of communication, but for an interview you want to look as if you are
interested in what is going on and being said. If you show no interest in your face, that will say a
lot about what the interviewer thinks of you and your passion for the job.
Eye Contact
Always maintain eye contact when speaking and being spoken to. This shows a lot of respect for
the person talking to you and it shows that you are interested. You don t want to be looking all
around the room when someone is speaking to you because it gives very strong signals that you are
not interested and not paying attention to what the person is

Analysis Of Sleepwalking Defense By Lindsay Lyon
After reading Lindsay Lyon s article about sleepwalking defense , it s clear this is a controversial
pled. The thought of being able to do anything in your sleep is an outrageous concept to grasp, let
alone use as a defense in a court room. Out of seven different cases in this article, there s only two
that I could come to terms with. State v. Bradley and Pennsylvania v. Ricksgers both involved the
murderof their significant others with a single gunshot during an unconscious state. In my opinion,
these cases are most relevant to the sleepwalking defense because it s more believable to think
one action took place before someone waking up then multiple actions. The Regina v. Parks case
was a far stretch to try and use sleepwalking defense.

With HIV being a major global epidemic, we are still seeing high numbers and new cases arise
every year. In the twentieth century the syndrome was the most famous epidemic and still is
considered to be so today with many people dying from the disease. In the healthcare community
the top priority for HIV/ AIDS for both periods have been prevention and access to treatment.
Researchers continue to push forward toward a cure for this epidemic as they did in the twentieth
century through clinical trials and exploration. We also see similarities when it comes to the cost
of health care treatment. We are still seeing today how health care is a distress to many people
who are not able to afford it just as it was prohibitive to persons without medical insurance in the
past (Anderson, 2007).
The medical advancements and improvements in twentieth century medicine involved inventions of
a vast number of technologies and medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment (Anderson, 2007.
p 268). These medical advancements certainly influenced health and medicine today. Technological
improvements made it possible for physicians to provide medical care and more accurately
diagnosis illnesses and trauma with less invasive methods. The accelerated growth of computer
technology that began in the 1970s has paved the way for many dramatic changes in medicine

Crime and Punishment
In his book Crime and Punishment , Dostoevsky explores the path of Raskolnikov who has many
problems and obstacles throughout his life. He commits murder and is faced with the long and
mentally extremely painful journey of seeking redemption.
Raskolnikov believes that by a law of nature men have been somewhat arbitrarily divided into two
groups of ordinary and extraordinary . Raskolnikov believes that the duty of the ordinary group is
to just exist, in order to form the world and the society. The second group, those who are
extraordinary , are a step above the normal. They have the ability to overstep normal bounds and

However, once he realized that he had made mistakes, he began to question his theory. After all the
frustration, he decided to go to the scene of the crime. This gave him a rush that made him feel
invincible. He believed that this would prove if he was truly super . Once he realized that he wasn
t part of this class, he suffered a mental breakdown.
Raskolnikov s suffering has a direct relationship with his guilt over his crimes. It is also due to
his recognition of his failure to meet his theory. However another controlling idea behind his
punishment is a result of his dual personality and his obsession to prove his theory. He is best
represented as being either cold, intellectual and isolated from society, or as being warm and
compassionate. The murder is the result of his intellectual side, trying to determine whether or not
he fits his extraordinary man theory. It was this side of his personality that develops the crime and
carries out his plan, forcing the humane side to suffer for his actions. Both Raskolnikov and
Svidrigailov are headed down the same path throughout the novel. They share the same goal of
redemption. Dunya was the same objective to Svidrigailov as the superman theory to Raskolnikov.

Research Methods For The University Recycling Program
Research Methods We began by creating an interview guide that consisted of four questions. The
interview questions for faculty were different from the ones asked to students. We included
questions regarding participants personal knowledge about recycling, their recycling habits and
what their thoughts about the University recyclingprograms. In addition, we asked participants to
identify ways they could reduce their paper usage, and if they could suggest something that the
University could do to improve.
We reached saturation after interviewing eight random students; interviews were held at the Taylor
Family Digital Library. Faculty members were chosen randomly and we interviewed two before
reaching saturation. Both faculty members were professors and the interview took place after their
lecture. The questions that we asked relate to our research question, which is what faculty and
students, are doing to help the University of Calgary reduce paper and how can it improve.
Preliminary Results
In general terms, we found that all participants recycle paper. Most recycle on a regular basis.
However, one of the participants mentioned that he only recycles when it is convenient and easy for
him, this means when recycling facilities (i.e. recycling bins) are nearby. In contrast, another
participant stated that she would carry the paper with her until she found the proper bin to throw it
in.
All the participants claimed that recycling paper is important to them, and they would

Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of...
Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities?
In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much
smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and
lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous
consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi national cooperations such as
Apple and Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities
today to see the identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due
to the easy exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing
towards a modern society, architects have adapted this universal style of architecture that fails to
represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either repeat the
same building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between ourselves
and the local culture (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism were to be practiced by
architects through the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it could potentially
return the missing identities of these cities.
Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject the
monotony developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation utilised by

Types Of Motion Tracking Systems
There are two main types of motion tracking systems. Sensor based tracking systems mainly rely
on contact with the moving object to pick up on signals from movement. Some examples of sensing
techniques are inertial, magnetic, and ultrasonic. Optical or vision based system require the object
in motion to be seen from the device. Often this includes optical markers that are detected by a
camera. Both tracking methodologies and associated devices have their advantages and
disadvantages.
2.1 Sensor Based Methods
Cyber Gloves are one type of wireless sensor device that can be used in trajectory model for hand
gesture recognition (Trajectory Modeling in gesture recognition using cybergloves). Glove attached
with sensors determine hand pose by converting sensed finger flexion into electrical signals (Design
considerations for a wearable monitor to measure finger posture). Although there are different
configurations for cyber gloves, most consists of sensors on the back of the glove that detect finger
range of motion and flexion.
Inertial measurement units such as accelerometers can measure things such as gesture withdrawal
capture movement information about hand rotation, and measure acceleration of movement.
However, accelerometers can be uncomfortable for the participant to wear since they are often
attached to a band on the wrist. Additionally, they do not provide much information for recognition
of finger movements (Hand Gesture Recognition Research Based on Surface EMG

Interestingly, children give these toys special treatment relative to other toys. If the special

As discussed before, as long as these toys do not shut down in response to pain and do not overly
express their pain by crying, these toys should be safe in a school environment. Also, if these toys
respond to behavior like the Tamagotchis and Furbies, then it will be beneficial to allow children to
play with these toys during school time. This is due to the ability of computers...[that can] turn
children into philosophers (Turkle, 463). For the Duke university students, computers enabled them
to create new applications for the iPod. Therefore, the computers helped turn them into a type of
philosopher, one that thinks innovatively. The iPod experiment is a perfect example of benefits of
applying technology to the education system because it did in fact turn young adults into a type of
philosophers. For children, computers turned them into a type of philosophers by transforming
them into caretakers (Turkle, 464). Philosophers of this type thinks emotionally and understands
that all life, even digital life, can be emotionally roiling (Turkle, 464). When children play with their

Novartis s Transparency Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Introduction to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a measure of a business s impacts on society, both
positive and negative. Pharmaceutical companies in particular are held to a high ethical standard by
the public due to the nature of their products. Novartis, the third largest drug and biotech company
in the world, aspires to be a model of ethics and philanthropy in the industry. The company uses its
size and global prominence to set a high CSR standard for all businesses. This paper examines some
of Novartis s most recent projects that contribute to the company s respected reputation, but also
investigates lawsuits against Novartis and shortcomings with its transparency, both of which the
administration continually fails to address.
Recent Philanthropic Initiatives
Novartis has increased its budget for charitable healthcare over the last few years. The company
developed entire departments to oversee charity projects, raise awareness of diseases, and increase
accessibility to its products. These projects focus on providing both preventative and treatment
based healthcare to low income populations.

man, who stayed at her father s spiritual retreat when she was a child. This man called her pretty
and lured in into his VW van to proceed to sexually abused her for two days in a cave. It is here
that the Freudian personality themes emerge In Bezzerides interactions. Shortly after escaping the
party, Bezzerides makes love to another protagonist, after which she is further able to explore the
repressed memory. Recalling that she felt proud that her abuser thought she was pretty. Her anger
at the male aggressor and her father was repressed because it was damaging to her ego. In effort to
protect herself the sexual feelings and aggression were displaced and sublimated though working a

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy
Left ventricular hypertrophy is defined as the increase in muscle mass of the left ventricle; It can
be hypertrophy of the muscle leading to a systolic HVG or a dilation of the muscle leading to
diastolic HVG. The diagnosis is suspected on the ECG and confirmed by ultrasound.
Among the causes of left ventricular hypertrophy are age, intensive practice of one or more sports,
obesity, prolonged hypertension.
The seriousness of hypertension arises from its impact on a number of organs (target organs). The
complications that can develop at their level explain the increased morbidity and mortality
associated with hypertension. The heart is one of the main target organs, and one of the first

Human Trafficking And The Media
Human trafficking has become an emerging worldwide public health crisis that has been
understudied and under published by both society and the media. Human trafficking has affected
men, woman, and children in varying ways. Human trafficking is not solely sex trafficking it is
segmented into various categories. Trafficking includes but is not limited to sexual exploitation,
forced labor, debt bondage, involuntary servitude, and trafficking of cells and organs. The way the
media frames human trafficking has a rippling effect towards the audience and societies
perspective. Positively using the media can influence society and can possibly help fight against
human trafficking. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), along with the Convention
on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the 14th
Amendment have all stated their views against human trafficking. The United States Department of
State (2015) states, trafficking in persons, human trafficking, and modern slaveryhave been used as
umbrella terms for the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person
for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion (p. 7).
Human trafficking is mostly thought of as sex trafficking of woman and children but this is not the
only way traffickers use woman and children. Women, children, and men are all subject to different
types of servitude. The most widely recognized one

The Causes And Impact Of The Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad was a technological breakthrough that managed to make the
USA feel smaller to travelers. Railroad systems had been in place decades before the
transcontinental railroad had been constructed. However, these systems were not in synch as
there were many different railroad companies and even more laws in place from state to state.
This was in part due to the civil war, during this period both governments wanted better
transportation of goods and troops. This caused many factors like track gauge (spacings of the
rails) lengths to differ vastly. These differences in factors caused the slowing of transportation as,
many of the times, people and goods being transported had to move trains where these railways
met up. Also, many railways would not intersect towns, causing them to board trains on the other
side of town. The Transcontinental Railroad was one of the stepping stones towards
standardization as these factors were enforced by law for uniformity, and towns began to be built
around these railways. This allowed people to travel from the eastern coast to the western coast
without having to swap railways many times and would bring people and their ideas closer
together, and, most importantly, caused the massive increase in western expansion. The
transcontinental railroad was brought forth due to the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862, Chinese
laborers, and western migration allowing for decreased travel times, bulk movement of resources
and products, and

  • 4. Color Imagery In We By Yevgeny Zamyatin The Russian art theorist Wassily Kandinsky once said that Color is a power which directly influences the soul. In other words, what Kandinsky said means that colors can be used to evoque very different types of emotions and ideas. Colors always have a deeper meaning than what they are actually used for, no matter if it is used in art or in literature. The classical dystopian novel We, which was published in 1924 by Yevgeny Zamyatin, is a great example of a work of literature that uses colorimagery. The dystopia within this book, United State is set 200 years in the future, in a totalitarian world that has total control over their citizens lives, who are called numbers. The readers get to know this society through the perspective of D 503,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the whole novel, Zamyatin uses the color yellow to symbolize complexity and rebellion, which are qualities from the primitive and ancient world, that United State tries to suppress. One of the main ways Zamyatin uses this color is in connection to I 330, who is the second main female character that is introduced into the book and D 503 s first love interest. The first time I 330 s association with yellow appeared in this story is in Record Six, when D 503 visited I 330 for the first time at the Ancient House, the only building in the entire society that is not made out of glass. In this scene, I 330 went to a room and came out dressed in short, bright yellowish dress, black hat, black stockings (28). The bright yellow dress described in this scene is a relic from ancient times, before the Green Wall was built and two hundred year war occured. Seeing I 330 in this attire definitely made a very big impression on him because it was the first time ever that D 503 personally interacted with the primitive world. This interaction with her had such a deep effect on D 503 that he even sees and mentions the color yellow, when I 330 is not around, mostly when he feels he is doing something against the state. I 330 is the only character that takes on different shades of the color yellow. As portrayed in Record Seventeen, while D 503 searched for I 330 in the Ancient House, he fell into one of its mystery corridor and he found himself with the doctor that had previously given him a letter that excused him from work. While waiting for I 330 he recalled the familiar saffron yellow silk, the smile bite, the eyes with their curtains drawn (93). This description shows another dress from the ancient world in the same color as the first, but in a darker shade. The fact that yellow is one of the only color that takes on different shades means that it is complex, and that there are more dimensions to it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oil and gas are valuable commodities for landowners and can mean an extra income. The popularity of hydraulic fracturing remains leading in the direction of new venture opportunities and increasing growth for the natural gas and oil production industry. With the development, comes risk and scrutiny. According to Robert W. Howarth and Anthony Ingraffea natural gasextracted from shale comes at too great a cost to the environment, and must be illegal. Natural gas from shale remains vastly proposed as clean, comparable with oil and coal that can decrease the outpouring while still satisfying rich fossil fuel over coming decades until a switch to renewable energysources exists. However shale gasbeing clean remains false, and it used as bridge fuel stays a terrible idea. Shale rock formation can hold large quantities of natural gas, however that gas remains mostly made up of methane. (Natural Gas:Should fracking stop?) For a long period of time a majority of this gas was not economically reachable. However over the past decade, two new technological advancements recently combined allowing extracting of the gas. This process is known as hydraulic fracturing, in which extremely high pressured water with additional chemicals forced two to three kilometers in the ground is extracting the gas. The manufacturing sources claim that fracking has produced over one million natural gas wells since the 1940 s. Only 2% of these wells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Problem With Illegal Aliens Introduction Despite the multiple laws and policies that were implemented in the United States, there is still a problem with illegal aliens or immigrants. The U.S. government has spent millions of dollars to secure our southern border but, with that being said, the government has charged the Department of Homeland Security to create and implement new and innovative ways to justify and solidify those polices. In this case study, there will be a focus and analytical approach to three of the main issues which continue to surface on immigration enforcement. This is especially important for an interview because you are trying to act as the best candidate for the job and first impressions are crucial. You don t want your future boss to think of you as rude or disrespectful. Facial Expressions Facial expressions come a long way when it comes to communicating. They show emotions and express how you are feeling. If you are disgusted or mad, that will show through your facial expressions. You want to smile while someone is speaking to you, and keep a positive expression on your face. If you are the one speaking, keep your chin up and continue to keep that smile on your face to show that you are interested in what you are saying and what is being said to you. This is important in all cases of communication, but for an interview you want to look as if you are interested in what is going on and being said. If you show no interest in your face, that will say a lot about what the interviewer thinks of you and your passion for the job. Eye Contact Always maintain eye contact when speaking and being spoken to. This shows a lot of respect for the person talking to you and it shows that you are interested. Researchers continue to push forward toward a cure for this epidemic as they did in the twentieth century through clinical trials and exploration. We also see similarities when it comes to the cost of health care treatment. We are still seeing today how health care is a distress to many people who are not able to afford it just as it was prohibitive to persons without medical insurance in the past (Anderson, 2007). The medical advancements and improvements in twentieth century medicine involved inventions of a vast number of technologies and medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment (Anderson, 2007. p 268). These medical advancements certainly influenced health and medicine today. Raskolnikov s suffering has a direct relationship with his guilt over his crimes. It is also due to his recognition of his failure to meet his theory. It was this side of his personality that develops the crime and carries out his plan, forcing the humane side to suffer for his actions. We included questions regarding participants personal knowledge about recycling, their recycling habits and what their thoughts about the University recyclingprograms. In addition, we asked participants to identify ways they could reduce their paper usage, and if they could suggest something that the University could do to improve. We reached saturation after interviewing eight random students; interviews were held at the Taylor Family Digital Library. Faculty members were chosen randomly and we interviewed two before reaching saturation. Both faculty members were professors and the interview took place after their lecture. The questions that we asked relate to our research question, which is what faculty and students, are doing to help the University of Calgary reduce paper and how can it improve. • 32. Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of... Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities? In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern society, architects have adapted this universal style of architecture that fails to represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either repeat the same building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between ourselves and the local culture (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism were to be practiced by architects through the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it could potentially return the missing identities of these cities. Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject the monotony developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation utilised by ... Sensor based tracking systems mainly rely on contact with the moving object to pick up on signals from movement. Some examples of sensing techniques are inertial, magnetic, and ultrasonic. Railroad systems had been in place decades before the transcontinental railroad had been constructed. However, these systems were not in synch as there were many different railroad companies and even more laws in place from state to state. This was in part due to the civil war, during this period both governments wanted better transportation of goods and troops. This caused many factors like track gauge (spacings of the rails) lengths to differ vastly. These differences in factors caused the slowing of transportation as, many of the times, people and goods being transported had to move trains where these railways met up.
