Social and Economic Development in Colonial Virginia in...
The seventeenth century marked the start of great colonization and immigration to the New World that
was North America. Mainly in on the eastern coast of what is now the United States, England
established colonies on this new land to thrive socially and economically. The English government
readily sent its citizens to America to exploit its abundant source of raw materials and the English
people exponentially came to the colonies to start a new life for themselves and to thrive socially. In
Virginia during the seventeenth century, the geographical attributes in this region allowed the
establishment of the cash crop tobacco to rapidly transform the colony socially and economically.
Particularly in the Chesapeake Bay, the goal of social and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The land became rapidly exploited and cultivated to produce tobacco. After the establishment of this
cash crop, tobacco was glorified and largely advertised in both the colonies and England. As well as
its large cultivation of tobacco, its connection to what became known as the Chesapeake Bay served as
a prominent economic aspect to Virginia. By mid century, the establishment of indentured servants
had been regulated and used frequently by plantation owners. This being a prominent factor to
Virginia s social development, its downfall and rise of slavery also played a prime role in social
transformation. Bacon s Rebellion in 1676 was the first rebellion in the colonies and it largely resulted
in the hardening of racial lines with slavery. The plantation owners and farmers now saw it as a
dangerous asset to have white indentured servants as workers and also saw having slaves as a much
higher profit. By the establishment of the Virginia colony and its use of producing the tobacco cash
crop, boatloads of slaves were brought to work and profit the upper class plantation owners. What
became known as the Middle Passage became nothing more to the white upper class than profit and
population increase. At the end of the seventeenth century, it was established that 40,000 people lived
in Virginia however the number of slaves brought to the colony was unknown. With the progression

Microeconomics is defined as: The study of the operations of the components of a national economy,
such as individual firms, households, and consumers (www.answers .com accessed 02Oct07). This is a
study of the relationship between the consumer and the supplier based on various fluxuations in the
market.
The Law of supply is defined as: A microeconomic law stating that, all other factors being equal, as
the price of a good or service increases, the quantity of goods or services offered by suppliers
increases and vice versa (www.answers .com accessed 02Oct07).
The law of demand is described as: A microeconomic law that states that, all other factors being equal,
as the price of a good or service increases, consumer demand for the good or service will decrease and
vice versa (www.answers .com accessed 02Oct07).
Supply and Demand: The market process is generally modeled using the economic concepts of supply
and demand. The plans/desires of consumers are embedded in the concept of demand and the
plans/desires of producers in the concept of supply. The plans of these two types of economic actors
are brought together in markets, which are the entities in which transactions occur. In a modern
economy, markets do not require that the buyers and sellers meet in a geographic place, so markets no
longer require actual marketplaces. ...

The Role Of Technology In The Criminal Justice System
Technology in the criminal justice system has come a long way in the history of criminal justice.
Technology has helped with communication within the criminal justice system and has helped in
criminal databases. In the criminal justice system there are many forms of new technology that
continues to arise each year in order help law enforcement agencies create a faster way in receiving
critical information needed to do their job.
StarChase Pursuit Management System, is one of today s new technologies being brought to law
enforcement agencies. This device is a compressed air launcher, mounted in the grille of the police
cruiser, which uses a laser to target the fleeing vehicle, once the laser in locked on the fleeing vehicle
it shoots a sticky tag that enables a GPS on to the suspect s vehicle allowing police to monitor the
location from a safe distance and still being able to remain unnoticed. This will allow the police to
apprehend the suspect in a less lethal environment by not putting danger on the road. However the use
of GPS devices without a warrant is currently under review by the U.S. Supreme Court. (Rivera,
2011).
Another great new technology being used in law enforcement is the Project54 Voice Command
System. This system allows officers to receive vehicle registration by verbal commands. (Rivera,
2011). Not only does the software allow registration information to be pulled up but can also be used
to operate functions inside the squad car such as turning on sirens

Taking a Look at Ancient Israel
The Jewish religion makes Israel s culture in 722 B.C. 540 B.C. distinctive. Israel s religion is
important in the fact that it started the Catholic culture. Though most Christians do not do the same
things the Jews did back then, the bases for their beliefs and ideas came from the Jews. The Israelites
way of life was influenced by their religion. They maintained their faith even when they were being
exiled. Their work, customs, laws, and other things were all influenced by their Jewish religion. The
geography of Southern Israel was also important in the way that the location affected their way of life
and work. These folkways and work are important since their religion influenced them. Religion was
their structure of life. Israel s geography was important to the Israelites in ancient times because it
helped them with their daily needs. Israel is located next to the Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on
earth below sea level. Back in ancient times, the area where most people lived was in the land of
Canaan. The land of Canaan is located west of Mesopotamia and between the Mediterranean Sea and
the Jordan River. The Jordan River separated the Israelites from the other people. Indeed, this was an
important aspect at the time since it gave them water for their daily needs. The Jezreel Valley is

the time when his legal argument could not stand up against the reasoning of families who had lost

African American Soldiers Contributions
One of the contributions of African American soldiers during World War I was there were more than
400,000 African Americans served in uniform. Despite segregation and discrimination, many African
Americans did not derive the benefits of American democracy. However, many still chose to support a
nation that denied them full citizenship. In the late 1917, the War Department created two all black
infantry divisions, the 92nd and 93rd divisions. Most African Americans served in segregated units
with white officers and worked in the Services of Supply (S.O.S.) as stevedores, cooks, laborers, and
other low level non combat positions. Furthermore, the 369th Infantry Regiment, known as the
Harlem Hellfighters, which served longer than any other American unit on the front lines for six
months in the war. This regiment was awarded by the France with Croix de Guerre, which was the
highest military honor and some members were awarded the Legion of Merit as they never lost any
prisoners or territory to the enemy. On April 2, 1917, President Wilson requested Congress to declare
war against Germany, saying that the world must be made safe for democracy. This had encouraged

A Look at Bipolar Disorder Essay
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is more than just ordinary mood swings. People
suffer from periods of mania to periods of depression. Bipolar disorder is a significant medical
condition that is a great health interest in America (Hopkins Medicine). The number of people being
diagnosed with bipolar disorder increases every year; therefore, the importance of education and
understanding of this disorder also increases because it can affect so many people s lives. According to
Johns Hopkins medicine, manic depression affects more than 5.7 million American adults or about 2.6
percent of Americans age 18 and older in a given year. Both sexes are affected equally. Bipolar

On the other end of the spectrum, symptoms of depression consist of mood changes with periods of
emptiness or worry, and loss of interest in enjoyable activities. Behavioral changes for people
suffering from depression include feeling tired, being irritable, unable to focus or make decisions,
changes in sleeping or eating, and thinking of death or suicide. People with severe periods of mania or
depression may also experience hallucinations or delusions (National Institute of Mental Health).
Patty Duke is an actress with bipolar disorder. Describing a hallucination she said, The voice [on the
car radio] told me someone was taking over the White House, and that I could be of assistance in this
matter. I had to get to Washington! I was on a mission (27). Bipolar people often have increased self
esteem; feel overly important, such as thinking they are a queen or messiah. They can even suffer
from paranoia. (Torrey and Knable). There are different kinds of bipolar disorder that all include
periods of depression and mania. The different types are bipolar I, bipolar II, cyclothymic disorder,
mixed bipolar, and rapid cycling bipolar disorder. Bipolar I is when a person has at least one manic
period in his or her lifetime. People with bipolar II have high and low moods overtime but they do not
reach extreme mania. With rapid cycling, people have four or more periods of mania or depression in
a year. Mixed bipolar is when people have mania and

Why Are Sweatshops Be Banned
Introduction
The word sweatshop has always had a negative connotation lingering over it. Many economists
believe that they should be banned and made illegal due to their poor working conditions, safety
hazards and worker exploitations. Although these opinions will indefinitely exist about sweatshops
there are many economists that fight the negative views by bringing statistics and facts about alternate
working conditions into the picture. This forces readers to see alternate views about the issue and how
people in third world countries make a living. The purpose of this review is to investigate the different
aspects and views on how sweatshops are either beneficial or detrimental to third world countries and
the citizens who live there. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many articles were also found through current, credible news sources. The term sweatshops was
initially searched and then later changed to sweatshops and the economy and sweatshop conditions
and workers pay. The database was set to show the most current articles from first to last. Research
became a little more difficult after narrowing down the topic from a broad point of view. Many articles
about this issue were also found by researching credible economists that have discussed the
controversy multiple times in journals. These articles helped the most with research because
economists have different views about sweatshops and how it helps shape the economy but they also
do not neglect the aspect of exploitation of workers and unfair pay issues sweatshops bring. Research
on the issue of sweatshops was fairly clear and the documents and professional journals are

The Ku Klux Klan History
The Ku Klux Klan and its history in the State of Colorado
There are many hate groups that are very notorious or infamous in history one of the biggest and
powerful to ever form is the Ku Klux Klan. Many groups have formed throughout history but few
have gained as much influence and power at a wide scale or at the speed that they were capable of
dominating an entire state. I picked the Klan for these very reasons when people think of highly
intolerant attitudes and practices what typically comes to mind is the south although the south clearly
has problems most people are not aware that most of the states with highly intolerant view and racism
and discrimination issue lie outside the south such places as Indiana and Michigan, One however that
really surprised me is the state of Colorado somewhere that I have lived my entire life as it turns out I
don t know a whole lot about its history as it turns out the Klan was huge in the state in the early 20 s.
I will now be discussing how, when, and why the Klan ceased power in the State.
In 1915 a resurrection of the group was called upon by a man named Joseph Simmons in Georgia
however the following of people was not a very big out comes just about five thousand people joined

learned a lot about the state that I really never had any idea about growing up here I could of never

The Woman Who Walked Into Doors

working class diction, frank revelations, and agonized reconstruction of the past in sometimes profane

Paula is the woman who walked into doors [1] because she explains her cuts, bruises, and broken
bones by her clumsiness walking into doors, falling down stairs rather than their real causes, her
husband s violent physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. This euphemism shows the contradiction of
subaltern speech: it can suggest and imply but it cannot truly speak in a language that society is
willing or able to decode. In fact, the entire novel rests on the inherent contradiction of subaltern
speech because Paula, a subaltern figure, narrates the entire book. The book shows Paula as she
struggles to know and speak [herself], to borrow a phrase from Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak s Can the
Subaltern Speak? [2] In Spivak s problematic, the there is no unrepresentable subaltern subject that
and know and speak itself; however, this impossibility is a deconstructive (im)possibility,[3] neither
final nor absolute. Spivak s writings on fictional representations of subalterns, such as her preface to

the Subaltern Speak? , explore the contradictions that this impossible speech produces. Doyle s novel

A family owned a shop known for the one of a kind mannequins and beautiful clothing, but it had to

girl agreed to move in though she knew that her mother did have some kind of childhood trauma in
this house that she refused to mention.
As the oil lamp flickered in her room at her grandmother s home along with the eerie sound that the
wooden floor made when stepped on, the girl heard a deafening voice coming from the distorted walls

How Did The Mongols Have Centralized Government
In the era of third wave civilizations, there were major states that had centralized governments and
those without. The Aztec Empire, most were Mexica people, had a centralized government. The extent
of empire and rapid population growth stimulated the development of markets and the production of
craft goods (582) The Mexica people began to trade in the Americas and It was important for their
government to put out what was okay to trade to have relations with other states. There government
produced markets and craft goods to trade with their surroundings. Therefore, The Mexica people had
good relationships with other states in terms of their works in trade due to their centralized
government. The Mongols are known as the ones who killed many people. Well, the Mongols did have
a centralized government. In 1209, the first major attack on the settled agricultural societies south of
Mongolia set in motion half a century of a Mongol world war, a series of military campaigns, massive
killing and empire building. (524) At this time, the Mongols were under the rule of the Khanate,
Chinggis Khan. Chinggis Khan claimed that the Sky God gave him orders to conquer others.
Therefore, the Mongols were under the rule of conquering other empires such as the Persian Empire
and the Abbasid Caliphate in order to please the Sky God. This meant that their empire expanded to
almost all of Asia. It is obvious that their relationship with other states were terrible, as they sacked

The Importance Of Classroom Management
Classroom management must reflect the personality and teaching style of the individual teacher and is
a skill that must be learned, practiced, and evaluated, and modified to fit the changing situations in
classrooms. (Burden, 2017) For a teacher to find their model of discipline that works for them and
their students it begins with trial and error. Nothing starts off smoothly but through time a teacher can
find a wave of motion on what method of discipline would work for the flow of the classroom, the
attitude of the students, and the teacher s personality and comfort level.
Throughout time teachers can find that flow of establishing the appropriate dominance in the
classroom, other than being the adult. One of the methods for establishing the dominance of the
classroom is to have clear expectations for the preferred behavior in the classroom, the teacher needs
to set in stone the rules and procedures, and by providing consequences for the disruptive student
behavior. The class can establish the rules and procedures through, possibly, a class discussion and
everyone, the students and teacher, can be on mutual circumstances. Besides the clarity of the rules
and procedures, the teacher needs acknowledge the students behavior; having the ability to reinforce
between the acceptable behavior and the negative behavior and by respectfully putting out the
consequences for the unruly behavior.
Cooperation in the classroom will show the dominance and respect of both the students and teacher in
respect to the students needs and opinions of the world around them. Cooperation focuses on the class
to function as a team. Finding the respect of the class could start by providing flexible learning goals.
Giving students that respect by letting them set their own milestones at the beginning of the unit can
give everyone the sense of cooperation and sends out the message that the teacher cares.
A continuum showing a range of low to high teacher control can be used to illustrate the various
educational views, and the various discipline models can be placed on the continuum. A model of
discipline is a set of cohesive approaches to deal with establishing, maintaining, and restoring order in
the classroom that represent a

The Theory Of International Relations Essay
Power and interests has always been the basis of the relationship among societies. As a result of the
quest along the history for the survival and development of the organized human groups around the
world, the international orders emerged to set how states relates to each other based on the amount of
power that they have and the interests they share at different moments of the history. With the
evolution of societies, international orders changes because of a major clash between great powers
where it is necessary a zero sum situation. To explain this, the paradigms of international relations will
be the main tool. The rise of an international order is a result of the accumulation of power by a few
big actors that are searching for hegemony. This is the idea that realist paradigm proposes, and it is
useful to understand how the countries related each other during the major part of the history (from
ancient times to middle age), where big empires and kingdoms divided the globe. Anarchy is the
natural state of things , and then power is the source of order that allowed to the great powers to
survive by taking resources from weak states under its protection. Through the realist lens, great
powers fought each other for raw materials and colonies, and the actors (states) were personified by
only one person (the emperor or king) using their big armies as tool to impose only their interests.
Alliances were a classical way of agreement, motivated only for the need to balance power

Superstitions In The Crucible
Crucible Superstitions Arthur Miller based his novel, The Crucible, on a true set of events that
occurred in Salem, Massachusetts, in the year 1692. Salem had become a town where neighbors and
enemies would blame each other of witchcraft, without actual evidence to support their accusations.
Most of the accusations led to the victim being guilty. If the Puritans thought you were guilty, you had
to either confess or be hanged. The Puritans believed that if you confessed, God would forgive you,
which suggests the way of life for the Puritans. The Puritans were big believers of God and the bible.
They believed that no one should commit sins, but if you confessed God would forgive you. The great
belief in the bible insinuated the start of witchcraft and superstitions, because the bible expresses how
one should not live with a witch. The Puritans also had no way to explain the unnatural things that
occurred around them, since they weren t as smart, that s why they turned to blaming witches and ...

market based benchmark, the weighted average cost of capital. Relative to the WACC calculated in

Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round The World Analysis
An analysis of Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round the World, 1519 1522 CE First of all, Ferdinand
Magellan or Fernando de Magelhaes (as referred in the primary source) is a Portuguese explorer and
navigator. He was born in a noble Portuguese family in 1480 and he spent his time serving the queen
of Portugal since he was a young boy (Szalay, 2014). Magellan had participated in many of Portugal
expeditions. He enrolled in the fleet of the Portuguese expeditions in 1505 and involved in many
journeys includes the journey to India, Africa and even Malacca in Malaysia in 1511(BBC, 2014).
According to Ducksters (2005), he had traveled to India by sailing around Africa. Later on, Magellan
came up with an idea to travel around Americans. Magellan s idea was to sail westwards from Seville
in Spain, through South America to get to Maluco or so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He presented his plan of his expedition to the King of Portugal, but it got rejected; and so he went to
King Charles I of Spain to fund his project with the promise that his expedition will establish a new
trade route which will surely bring further wealth to the country of Spain (Fernão de Magalhães, n.d.).
His proposed seem to be possible because the Spice Islands are rich in spices such as nutmeg,
cinnamon, clove, and black pepper. Those spices were extremely valuable during Magellan s day in
16th century because it could not be grown in Europe in which the areas are cold and dry place
(Ferdinand Magellan, 2015). Most importantly, since no one has discovered a way to go westward to
reach the Spice Islands, then it s normal for Magellan to intend to be the first one. In this analysis of a
primary source called Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round the World, 1519 1522 CE , I will explain

Rhetorical Analysis Essay: A Seismic Shift in How People Eat In Hans Taparia and Pamela Koch s
New York Times online article A Seismic Shift in How People Eat, posted on November 6, 2015, the
current struggle that big food companies are experiencing in relation to increased consumer awareness
is discussed. Prompting this article is the overwhelming movement to healthy eating by the general
populace and the havoc it is wreaking on corporate companies. Highly popular among health
enthusiasts of all ages, the topic of this paper appeals to a wide audience. Although easily missed at
first due to the beautiful flow and structure of the paper, the opinions and claims by Taparia and Koch
are primarily based in logos where facts and statistics are quoted, and a fair amount of pathos where
vivid imagery is utilized to paint a picture of the scenario for the reader. Differing slightly from the
normal presentation, the ethos of the paper is not so much enforced through personal titles or
anecdotes, but rather through the combination of presenting the ideas and facts clearly and
persuasively, all adding to the author s credibility. When the paper comes to a conclusion, the reader is
left with a solid understanding of how big food companies are finally being forced to share their dirty
secrets and clean up their act in order to compete with the small scale, organic based companies and
the jeopardy they are facing unless they change their ways drastically. As the paper begins,

Persuasive Essay On Privacy
Privacy is a respectable notion that most of us ask for. Countries fight each other for it, people get
arrested if they invade it, and it is one of the biggest issues in The United States of America. Privacy is
a big topic here because a lot of people care about what others see, how they see them, and how they
interpret what they do. However, the National Security Act was placed in 1974 for America s citizens
to be protected from the people around us and from other countries that could pose a threat to their
safety. The problem with that is now National Security themselves has started invading Americans and
other countries privacy. Is it appropriate for the government to watch its citizens if it means better
security or is it against the constitution and just plain wrong? The fourth amendment in the Bill of
Rights, which was ratified in 1789, states that Americans have the right to be secure in their persons,
houses, and papers. As well as against unreasonable searches and seizures, unless by a probable cause.
On the contrary, the Supreme Court s interpretation of unreasonable has varied over time. The
Constitution never specifies what is reasonable and what is not. The fourth amendment has stopped a
lot of situations that could have turned deadly or unconstitutional, but a few have slipped through
because of the vase word that is used in the definition. Another historic document was created almost
two hundred years later, which was the National Security Act. In 1974,

Essay On Shakespeare s Scribe Of Widge
Shakespeare s Scribe The main protagonist, Widge, was a worrisome scribe for the Lord Chamberlain
s Men. He constantly feared if he would be fired from the acting organization, as many of his actions
made him look bad, especially when he bruised his teacher, Mr. Armin. After his trip to earn money
for the company, he learned to respect people he hated and found a true family to stay with no matter
what. His journey was a wakeup call, changing his arrogant self into a well mannered actor. Ever since
the beginning, Widge had a distrust of Sal Pavy, as Sal had damaged Widge s shoulder by hitting him
with a blunted rapier. Widge never had the guts to face Sal, though; he was too busy fretting that he
would get in trouble if he laid even a finger on Sal, who would obviously have reported him. Sal said
mean things to Widge and tried to steal all of Widge s parts, which Widge had tried hard to earn. His
fake father, Jamie Redshaw, showed no moral support whatsoever, so Widge was alone in his feud
with Sal. His friends did not help either, because they too were afraid of creating conflict with their
mentors. Ironically, though Widge did not fight Sal, he argued over smaller things, like taking a ...

Artificial intelligent models (AIMs) have been successfully adopted in hydrological forecasting in a
plenty of literatures. However, the comprehensive comparison of their applicability in particular short

Flood warnings must be provided with an adequate lead time for the public and the emergency
services to take actions to minimize flood damages.
Real time flood forecasting is an important and integral part of a flood warning service, and can help
to provide more accurate and timely warnings. Depending on catchment characteristics and catchment
response to rainfall, various types of flood forecasting models, including correlations, simple trigger
flood forecasting, and more sophisticated real time catchment wide integrated hydrological and
hydrodynamic models may be adopted. These models provide flow and level forecasts at the selected
key locations known as Forecast Points, which are usually located along major rivers or on streams
near urban areas that have a history of flooding.
2. ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK: ANN consists of a large number of parallel processing
neuros, working independently and connecting to each other by weighted links. It is capable of
simulating complex nonlinear system due to its ability of self learning, self adaption and
generalization. The feed forward neural network (FFNN), with one input layer, one or more hidden
layer and one output layer, is employed in this study. BP algorithm, firstly introduced by Rumelhart, is
employed for training. The global error

The Design And Analysis Of Computer Experiments
Introduction
According to the case study, the design and analysis of computer experiments (DACE) were applied
as a tool to identify the risks associated with laser welding in an electronic welding process for
developing the substrate product development effort. This process, DACE, used the computer
simulations to easily predict the stresses and warp of the sample with varying factor levels. The main
advantage here is instead of making eight different samples, the whole work was finishing with a
computer, and it saves a lot of time and money.
In general, the DFSS project having two steps such as first to identifying critical parameters (Y s) that

So, the team uses only 25 2 fractional factorial designs through computer simulations.
However, the team uses finite element analysis software along with DOE to predict two responses
from each run such as the stress and the deformation. In the case study, we observe the images that
show the stress and deformation due to a temperature change. The high stress and deformation areas
are shown by the red color. The low stress and deformation areas are indicated by the dark blue color.
At last the deformation of a single layer was imported into MATLAB (a matrix computing
environment) to calculate the radius of curvature or warp.
The immediate step in this sequential experimentation was enhancing the factorial experiment with a
center point and star points i.e. a central composite design (CCD), fully explores the extremes of the
factor levels. It goes beyond the +1/ 1 levels to get a better understanding of the effects the factors on
the results. The CCD consisted of a center point and six star points. The star points represent the +/ 2
alpha levels of the factors. Here the dots are connected to one another through the center; the resulting
shape is a star. There are six dots because there are two extreme cases for each important factor. This
analysis helps to provide a better understanding of the effects on results such

Chinese Cultural Issues
Cultural Issues/Differences China has a very old and complex culture. Traditions vary between towns,

Chinese culture developed in isolation from the world which means it is very different, and

business, the Chinese value relationships. In architecture, symmetry and width are strong eg
Forbidden city. Chinese food is very important, and local recipes are now found all over the world.
Cultural activities, like the Temple Fair and the Lantern Festival (Chinese New Year) are special times
for locals.
Customs Tipping is NOT part of the Chinese culture, haggling is normal. Beijing though which has
many tourists and has become somewhat used to tipping. Greeting each other in China is by bowing or
nodding. When addressing people use their title and surname. Acknowledge the oldest person first. In
China you should avoid physical contact, and especially avoid touching a woman in public. Public
displays of affection are frowned on. Dress in most settings in China people are expected to dress
modestly, not showing too much bare skin. Public toilets often just a hole in the floor = No privacy!.
There is usually a fee to pay, and you will need your own toilet paper. McDonalds does have western

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Congress
Although there are strengths in the way the United States Congress is built to deal with issues, there
are many weaknesses that counteract these strengths. Congress is a bicameral legislature that is made
up of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The strengths are in the way Congress has
clearly established rules. The three branches of government were created to make a separation of
powers so that no one branch can be more powerful than the next; which is known as checks and
balances. The clearly established rules that Congress has to follow is a major strength, and although
these checks and balances are beneficial, they tend to cause many dilemmas making the contemporary
Congress a relatively weak institution of American national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is the job of both Congress and the president to make a yearly fiscal budget as well as implementing
tax regulations. There has been seventeen spending gaps since the government revised its budgeting
process which is a huge weakness. The United States is supposed to be the world leader, yet their
government has not even been able to agree on a budget half of the time. The one good thing about
this budget is that Congress creates a debt limit that the president has to abide by. In theory this limit
should help prevent overspending but when the president gets close to the debt limit Congress has an
option to raise the debt limit, which they always do. If Congress does not raise the debt limit, the
president will have to decide which bills do not get paid. By not being able to pay people for the work
they have already complete, it makes the value of the dollar less trustworthy around the world. The

Peer Pressure Towards Negative Behaviour and Classroom...
Children are often viewed as happy, carefree beings without having to care for most stressors in life.
However, take a closer look and we would understand that children do have their growing pains as
well. In this research, children are defined as young kids below the age of 12. As they grow older, they
undergo many changes in their life, and it is of no surprise that they need to learn to cope from the
situation based on those changes. This study is designed to understand the underlying theories and
factors that could affect the children s development through the environmental influences that may
promote or affect the development of behavior and achievement through peer pressure and classroom

Although conformity and compliance are relatively similar, they too, have differences. Compliance is
a specific response to a specific request, while conformity generally involves unspoken pressure to
behave in a particular manner. Generally, compliance involves request which could be explicit such as
using the foot in the door technique. Most of the time, in compliance, the child is told to respond or
complete the task told in a desirable manner; while in conformity, a person is expected to behave in a
particular manner (Cialdini and Trost, 1998).
Compliance plays a major role in building and maintaining relationships where children learn to
behave in a certain manner to maintain status quo (Cialdini and Trost, 1998). When we comply with
an instruction, we receive praises, or lavished with social acceptance and gifts. By doing so, the
children feel accepted, wanted and loved by other peers. In a way, compliance acts as a form of
conditioning the behavior expected from their peers (Cialdini and Trost, 1998).
It is easy to view compliance as a form of concession due to the obligation children might have
towards their peers. Studies have found that with compliance, children tend to bend towards peer
pressure and it has a significant effect towards negative behavior (Adams et al, 2000; Fanti and
Henrich, 2010). This isn t surprising, as children

The Animal Liberation Front
Overview
This report will focus the threats inherent within ecoterrorist organisations, such as, The Earth
Liberation Front ( ELF ) and The Animal Liberation Front ( ALF ). To understand these threats the
report will aggregate the origins of ELF and ALF , both in respect to their ideological underpinnings
and their organisational structure. These factors contribute not only to the past successes of ELF and
the ALF but also to the likelihood of the organisation to undertake violent acts into the future.
Background Information
In 1979 the establishment of the English environmental organisation Earth First! marked a new era

Accidental Death Of An Anarchist Analysis

QUESTION Discuss Accidental Death of an Anarchist as a political satire?
ANSWER Dario Fo has written and performed in many important and immediate political causes of
his time (malik 1)In his play Accidental Death of an Anarchist Dario Fo has used the satire purposely
to reveal the true picture of the Italian government, which is corrupted by the people who make and
safeguard the law that is the judges and the police officers.
In this play there are many incidents which show how police officers and the judges help each other in

They don`t want the people to be aware about the wrong happening around them. These things were

To what extent did cross cultural differences have an impact on the failure of merger Daimler Benz

Kamilia Broderick
H00287852
Executive Summary
This case study explores the failure of the merger of two renowned car companies, Daimler Benz and
Chrysler and how the integration of the two contrasting organisational cultures resulted in a cross
cultural mismatch. Due to the lack of cultural understanding from both sides, the notion of potential
synergies as a result of the combination went unrealised. The study/research of cross cultural
management in organisations plays an important role in fathoming why this merger was unsuccessful.

In May 1998, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to a study on cultural strategies (Steven H. Appelbaum et al, 2009), the assessment of these
cultural variables within organisations has significant relevance to the success of their integration;
simply assessing the cultural similarity/differences increase the odds of successful mergers. The more
compatible the companies are, the less likely they will face adversity. When it came to operations and
management, Daimler Benz and Chrysler could not properly blend due to Germans and Americans
contrasting approaches of administrative issues, as well as communication styles and other
differences. In fact, a vast number of significant Chrysler executives and engineers resigned which
lead to the dissatisfaction of Daimler employees with Chrysler s division performance. As a result, the
two cultures were extremely unhappy working together. One of the Daimler managers (Jürgen
Hubbert) stated prior to the merger, We have a clear understanding: one company, one vision, one
chairman, two cultures. , however failing to realise that they were two cultures with strong distinctive
heritages in other words, it was a failure of fit (The Economist The DaimlerChrysler emulsion , 2000).
It was evident that the people suffered from culture shock, as they were systematically confronted with
behaviour not compatible with their own culturally determined rules of behaviour (Gerhard Fink et al,
2007). It was obvious that there was a lack of cross cultural management from

The Modern Prison System And The American Government System
If there is one thing that makes the world run efficiently, it s money. Having money and adequate
funds, leads to power and peace, no matter the business you re in. This is no different in the correction
industry, one of the least funded areas in the American government system. For as long as America has
been founded, there have been a prison system. Granted early systems were horrendous and treated
criminals as less than human beings, the modern prison system isn t perfect either. Even after
hundreds of years, the American prison system is flawed. Corrections industries do not communicate
with each other causing disparity in the way places are run and which programs are truly helpful in
getting people back into society successfully. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The staff in corrections is so large, because there is a huge number of people in the actual prisons, an
even bigger number of people on parole, and people in general needing to be protected. With more
than 2.3 million people locked up, the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. 1
out of 100 American adults is behind bars, meaning that with that many people needing to be
incarcerated, governments should be focused on opening new facilities and expanding instead of
making across the board cuts and shutting down much needed buildings. Though the corrections
industry is only one part of the entire Criminal justice system, it is argued to be one of the most
important. The local, state, and the federal government spend about $74 billion dollars a year on
correctional institutions, and nearly 800,000 people work in the industry. In corrections, budget is
being diminished at an astounding rate. Prisons are getting closed, there s less money for necessary
equipment, there are fully trained staff member losing their jobs, and lower staff/inmate ratios.
Governments are doing whatever they can to save, but eventually there s nowhere else to cut, and the
situation becomes very dangerous for not only inmates, but for the guards there as well. With the
economy being in rough shape as of late in America, money invested in corrections is lessening,
whether this is more helpful or harmful to society in the long run is

to change; essentially the organization is in need of a change of because of external factors or a need
for a change within the organizational culture. External evolutions of technological and cultural
factors can all impact the success of an intended organizational change. Still, such change is often
needed to keep an organization healthy. Organizations engage in change activities for a wide number
of reasons. Overall, the main reason is to increase the overall success of the organization, whether it is
the operational flow or the organizational culture itself. Essentially, organizations engage in change
activities to improve the ability of the organization to adapt to changes in the environment and to
change employee behavior (Robbins Judge, 2008, p 412). External factors can cause an organization
to need to revamp its internal strategies. Thus, external factors hold a powerful role in why an
organization would need to change. Additionally, organizational culture can have a place in causing a
need for change within an organization. When how employees act and function fail to meet
organization strategies and objectives, a change is needed in order to intervene and generate a greater
sense of balance between the two. There are a number of factors that impact an

William Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
Much Ado About Nothing, is a comedic play by William Shakespeare thought to have been written in
1598 and 1599, as Shakespeare was approaching the middle of his career. (Wikipedia) This timeless
play is generally considered one of Shakespeare s best comedies, because it combines a cheerful mood
with an intricate series of deceptions and miscommunications. It s known for its hilarity, honor, shame
and court politics. Shakespeare depicts different kinds of loving relationships romantic love, family
support and loyal friendship. My first impression of this story is that it would be a love story. This
play was included in the First Folio, published in 1623. The pairing of David Tennant as Benedick
with Catherine Tate as Beatrice is a marriage that, if not made in heaven, is certainly cemented by
television and pays off superbly. At the peak of his career he created this love comedy and it became a
hit and an all time favorite.
A little background on William Shakespeare, the one and only. William was born in 1564 to a
successful middle class glove maker in Stratford upon Avon, England. Shakespeare attended grammar
school, but his formal education proceeded no further. In 1582 he married an older woman, Anne
Hathaway, and had three beautiful children. Around 1590 he left his family and traveled to London to
work as an actor and playwright. Public and critical acclaim quickly followed, and William eventually
became the most popular playwright in England and part owner

The Indian Camp By Ernest Hemingway And Two Words By...
Summer Reading Assignment
The short stories which are to be examined in this document are The Indian Camp by Ernest
Hemingway and Two Words by Isabel Allende. Both stories were manufactured in brilliant yet
ostensibly natural fashion that ignites in the reader, a fusion of profound interest and awe. Ultimately,
the stories unite in their tackling of the sacred solemnity of love and death and the thin filament that
separates yet binds both entities. Both tales dwell and arguably thrive in their deficiency of intense
complexity, so to speak. They feature a sheer sense of clarity that eases the reader s perception and
comprehension of the narrative. This clarity is attributed to the author s usage of relatively basic,
minimal and graspable words/phrases for the common individual. This is perceptible in both writers
portrayal of the setting in which a certain portion of the tale occurs. For instance at the culmination of
Indian Camp Hemingway writes, They were seated on the boat, Nick in the stern, his father rowing.
The sun was coming up over the hills. A bass jumped, making a circle in the water. (Hemingway 7) In
Two Words, Allende illustrates the setting of Belisa prior to her encounter with the Colonel and his
men in an equally minimal manner as Hemingway: One August morning, several years later, Belisa
Crepusculario was sitting in her tent in the middle of the plaza, surrounded by the uproar of market
day..... (Allende 3) Through the author s utilization and

Theories Of Emotion, Relational Theory, And Social...
Introduction
In the case study, Dasani goes through many hardships. Over time, the events that occur take a toll on
her. Through the losses she experiences, Dasani exhibits behavior that can be explained with four
theories. These theories are Piaget s Cognitive Theory, Physiological Theories of Emotion, Relational
Theory, and Social Identity Theory.
Synopsis of Health and Wealth Theory When dealing with the health care system, the socioeconomic
status of an individual can influence the quality of service they receive. The Health and Wealth theory
shows that the amount of money someone has determines how well they are treated medically. Money
gives individuals access to health care and for those who have very little amount of money or none at
all are at risk of not receiving quality health care. In many instances, individuals with poor health are
more likely to live in low end areas, have minimal education, and a low income (Hutchison, 2015).
People who have a low income usually have more health problems than those with high incomes
because they are exposed to hazardous environments and partake in unhealthy habits like smoking and
not exercising (Hutchison, 2015). Affordable health care can be hard to come by. Having insurance
can help give people access to health care, but the cost of health insurance can hinder some people
from having it (Hutchison, 2015). Also, just because someone has health insurance does not mean they
have automatic access to health care

After the establishment of this cash crop, tobacco was glorified and largely advertised in both the colonies and England. As well as its large cultivation of tobacco, its connection to what became known as the Chesapeake Bay served as a prominent economic aspect to Virginia. By mid century, the establishment of indentured servants had been regulated and used frequently by plantation owners. This being a prominent factor to Virginia s social development, its downfall and rise of slavery also played a prime role in social transformation. Bacon s Rebellion in 1676 was the first rebellion in the colonies and it largely resulted in the hardening of racial lines with slavery. The plantation owners and farmers now saw it as a dangerous asset to have white indentured servants as workers and also saw having slaves as a much higher profit. By the establishment of the Virginia colony and its use of producing the tobacco cash crop, boatloads of slaves were brought to work and profit the upper class plantation owners. What became known as the Middle Passage became nothing more to the white upper class than profit and population increase. At the end of the seventeenth century, it was established that 40,000 people lived in Virginia however the number of slaves brought to the colony was unknown. With the progression within the ... • 19. The Importance Of Classroom Management Classroom management must reflect the personality and teaching style of the individual teacher and is a skill that must be learned, practiced, and evaluated, and modified to fit the changing situations in classrooms. (Burden, 2017) For a teacher to find their model of discipline that works for them and their students it begins with trial and error. Nothing starts off smoothly but through time a teacher can find a wave of motion on what method of discipline would work for the flow of the classroom, the attitude of the students, and the teacher s personality and comfort level. Throughout time teachers can find that flow of establishing the appropriate dominance in the classroom, other than being the adult. One of the methods for establishing the dominance of the classroom is to have clear expectations for the preferred behavior in the classroom, the teacher needs to set in stone the rules and procedures, and by providing consequences for the disruptive student behavior. The class can establish the rules and procedures through, possibly, a class discussion and everyone, the students and teacher, can be on mutual circumstances. Besides the clarity of the rules and procedures, the teacher needs acknowledge the students behavior; having the ability to reinforce between the acceptable behavior and the negative behavior and by respectfully putting out the consequences for the unruly behavior. Cooperation in the classroom will show the dominance and respect of both the students and teacher in respect to the students needs and opinions of the world around them. Cooperation focuses on the class to function as a team. Finding the respect of the class could start by providing flexible learning goals. Giving students that respect by letting them set their own milestones at the beginning of the unit can give everyone the sense of cooperation and sends out the message that the teacher cares. • 21. The Theory Of International Relations Essay Power and interests has always been the basis of the relationship among societies. As a result of the quest along the history for the survival and development of the organized human groups around the world, the international orders emerged to set how states relates to each other based on the amount of power that they have and the interests they share at different moments of the history. With the evolution of societies, international orders changes because of a major clash between great powers where it is necessary a zero sum situation. To explain this, the paradigms of international relations will be the main tool. The rise of an international order is a result of the accumulation of power by a few big actors that are searching for hegemony. This is the idea that realist paradigm proposes, and it is useful to understand how the countries related each other during the major part of the history (from ancient times to middle age), where big empires and kingdoms divided the globe. Anarchy is the natural state of things , and then power is the source of order that allowed to the great powers to survive by taking resources from weak states under its protection. Through the realist lens, great powers fought each other for raw materials and colonies, and the actors (states) were personified by only one person (the emperor or king) using their big armies as tool to impose only their interests. The Puritans were big believers of God and the bible. They believed that no one should commit sins, but if you confessed God would forgive you. Most importantly, since no one has discovered a way to go westward to reach the Spice Islands, then it s normal for Magellan to intend to be the first one. Rhetorical Analysis Essay: A Seismic Shift in How People Eat In Hans Taparia and Pamela Koch s New York Times online article A Seismic Shift in How People Eat, posted on November 6, 2015, the current struggle that big food companies are experiencing in relation to increased consumer awareness is discussed. Prompting this article is the overwhelming movement to healthy eating by the general populace and the havoc it is wreaking on corporate companies. Highly popular among health enthusiasts of all ages, the topic of this paper appeals to a wide audience. Although easily missed at first due to the beautiful flow and structure of the paper, the opinions and claims by Taparia and Koch are primarily based in logos where facts and statistics are quoted, and a fair amount of pathos where vivid imagery is utilized to paint a picture of the scenario for the reader. Differing slightly from the normal presentation, the ethos of the paper is not so much enforced through personal titles or anecdotes, but rather through the combination of presenting the ideas and facts clearly and persuasively, all adding to the author s credibility. When the paper comes to a conclusion, the reader is left with a solid understanding of how big food companies are finally being forced to share their dirty secrets and clean up their act in order to compete with the small scale, organic based companies and the jeopardy they are facing unless they change their ways drastically. • 26. Persuasive Essay On Privacy Privacy is a respectable notion that most of us ask for. Countries fight each other for it, people get arrested if they invade it, and it is one of the biggest issues in The United States of America. Privacy is a big topic here because a lot of people care about what others see, how they see them, and how they interpret what they do. However, the National Security Act was placed in 1974 for America s citizens to be protected from the people around us and from other countries that could pose a threat to their safety. The problem with that is now National Security themselves has started invading Americans and other countries privacy. Is it appropriate for the government to watch its citizens if it means better security or is it against the constitution and just plain wrong? The fourth amendment in the Bill of Rights, which was ratified in 1789, states that Americans have the right to be secure in their persons, houses, and papers. As well as against unreasonable searches and seizures, unless by a probable cause. On the contrary, the Supreme Court s interpretation of unreasonable has varied over time. The Constitution never specifies what is reasonable and what is not. The fourth amendment has stopped a lot of situations that could have turned deadly or unconstitutional, but a few have slipped through because of the vase word that is used in the definition. Another historic document was created almost two hundred years later, which was the National Security Act. In 1974, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Essay On Shakespeare s Scribe Of Widge Shakespeare s Scribe The main protagonist, Widge, was a worrisome scribe for the Lord Chamberlain s Men. He constantly feared if he would be fired from the acting organization, as many of his actions made him look bad, especially when he bruised his teacher, Mr. Armin. After his trip to earn money for the company, he learned to respect people he hated and found a true family to stay with no matter what. His journey was a wakeup call, changing his arrogant self into a well mannered actor. Ever since the beginning, Widge had a distrust of Sal Pavy, as Sal had damaged Widge s shoulder by hitting him with a blunted rapier. Widge never had the guts to face Sal, though; he was too busy fretting that he would get in trouble if he laid even a finger on Sal, who would obviously have reported him. Sal said mean things to Widge and tried to steal all of Widge s parts, which Widge had tried hard to earn. His fake father, Jamie Redshaw, showed no moral support whatsoever, so Widge was alone in his feud with Sal. His friends did not help either, because they too were afraid of creating conflict with their mentors. Ironically, though Widge did not fight Sal, he argued over smaller things, like taking a ... Flood warnings must be provided with an adequate lead time for the public and the emergency services to take actions to minimize flood damages. Real time flood forecasting is an important and integral part of a flood warning service, and can help to provide more accurate and timely warnings. Depending on catchment characteristics and catchment response to rainfall, various types of flood forecasting models, including correlations, simple trigger flood forecasting, and more sophisticated real time catchment wide integrated hydrological and hydrodynamic models may be adopted. These models provide flow and level forecasts at the selected key locations known as Forecast Points, which are usually located along major rivers or on streams near urban areas that have a history of flooding. 2. The main advantage here is instead of making eight different samples, the whole work was finishing with a computer, and it saves a lot of time and money. The low stress and deformation areas are indicated by the dark blue color. At last the deformation of a single layer was imported into MATLAB (a matrix computing environment) to calculate the radius of curvature or warp. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although conformity and compliance are relatively similar, they too, have differences. Compliance is a specific response to a specific request, while conformity generally involves unspoken pressure to behave in a particular manner. Generally, compliance involves request which could be explicit such as using the foot in the door technique. Most of the time, in compliance, the child is told to respond or complete the task told in a desirable manner; while in conformity, a person is expected to behave in a particular manner (Cialdini and Trost, 1998). Compliance plays a major role in building and maintaining relationships where children learn to behave in a certain manner to maintain status quo (Cialdini and Trost, 1998). When we comply with an instruction, we receive praises, or lavished with social acceptance and gifts. By doing so, the children feel accepted, wanted and loved by other peers. In a way, compliance acts as a form of conditioning the behavior expected from their peers (Cialdini and Trost, 1998). It is easy to view compliance as a form of concession due to the obligation children might have towards their peers. Studies have found that with compliance, children tend to bend towards peer pressure and it has a significant effect towards negative behavior (Adams et al, 2000; Fanti and Henrich, 2010). Appelbaum et al, 2009), the assessment of these cultural variables within organisations has significant relevance to the success of their integration; simply assessing the cultural similarity/differences increase the odds of successful mergers. The more compatible the companies are, the less likely they will face adversity. When it came to operations and management, Daimler Benz and Chrysler could not properly blend due to Germans and Americans contrasting approaches of administrative issues, as well as communication styles and other differences. In fact, a vast number of significant Chrysler executives and engineers resigned which lead to the dissatisfaction of Daimler employees with Chrysler s division performance.
