Operant Conditioning In Jurassic Park
Zach and Gray were sent to Jurassic World to visit their Aunt Claire, who is the park s manager.
Jurassic World, a dinosaur amusement park built on the island that was once home to the original
Jurassic Park, sought to increase park attendance by genetically creating a new dinosaur. Masroni,
the owner of the amusement park, asks Claire to consult with American Navy veteran and
Velociraptors trainer Owen Grady on the new dinosaurs containment. This new attraction, the
Indominus Rex, proves to be extremely dangerous, uncontrollable, and uncontainable. The
Indominus Rex ends up escaping and goes around the island killing both people and dinosaurs.
Claire decides to have the park evacuated, but Zach and Gray ignore the evacuation order, opting...

The general response syndrome is known as Selye s concept of the body s adaptive response to
stress in three phases alarm, resistance, exhaustion (Myers, 2014, p.393). The constant stressor in
the movie would be the Indominus rex who poses as a threat to their safety and confronts them
with the need to stay alive, to survive. Phase one of the GAS, alarm, can be seen when Owen
and the guard realize Indominus is with them inside the paddock. We see them become more alert
and we can guess that their hearts have begun to race. During Phase 2, resistance, your
temperature, blood pressure, and respiration remain high. Your adrenal glands pump hormones
into your bloodstream. You are fully engaged, summoning all your resources to meet the
challenge (Myers, 2014, p.393). Owen experiences phase two as he runs as fast as he can towards
the slight opening as Indominus follows close behind. Adrenaline has kicked in and he s using
everything in him to run faster. We can only guess that Owen experiences Phase three, exhaustion,
as he lies under a truck covered in oil or gasoline, when we see him breath with relief after
Indominus failed to distinguish his

Avocado Leaf Plasticity Essay
DIFFERENCES IN SUN AND SHADE LEAVES OF AVOCADO TREES BY PHENOTYPIC
PLASTICITY
INTRODUCTION: Phenotypic plasticity, or differing phenotypes from one genotype in different
environmental conditions, is a way for sessile organisms to adapt to changing environmental
conditions (Valladares et al., 2007). Plasticity was expected to be abundant, however, it did not
occur as often in nature due to resource limitations and environmental stress (Valladares et al.,
2007). An experiment by Matos tested the phenotypic plasticity to light availability in shade and sun
leaves of coffee trees (Matos et al., 2009). Their research indicated that compared [to] sun leaves,
shade leaves had a lower stomatal density, a thinner palisade mesophyll, a ... Show more content on

This process was done twice on each tree in the understory for shade leaves, and in the canopy for
sun leaves. Each leaf was measured for its surface area, length to width ratio, mass, specific leaf
mass, and color. Surface area was measured by a leaf area meter in squared centimeters. Length
to width ratio was measured by measuring the length (vertically along the bridge of the leaf) and
the width (horizontally on the widest part of the leaf) with a ruler in centimeters, and dividing
the length by the width. Mass was calculated by a balance in grams. Specific leaf mass
(thickness) was measured by dividing the mass by its surface area in grams per squared
centimeter. Color was measured by having three reference leaves provided by the instructor,
indicating light (L), medium (M), and dark (D) leaves and compared our collected leaves. After
recording all of the data, these data were then input into a statistical program called StatCat to
determine normality through a normality test. The data for surface area, length to width ratio,
mass, and specific leaf mass for sun and shade leaves were both normal, therefore, we chose a
paired sample t test for all of them. A normality test was not needed for color for sun and shade
leaves due to it being a nominal scale data. The number of light, medium, and dark shade leaves
were tallied up according to color, and the same was done for the sun leaves. A contingency table
was made in

The Namesake Theme
The foreign domain is a factor that carries the national identity of the people from different places.
The traditions and identities of each character are intertwined in the notion of foreign culture and
ethnic minority culture. The association of the alien characters in the new community demonstrates
a new identity construction. This type of concept of a new life in a new place brings out a foreign
experience that is hard to adapt. In the story Namesake, Ashima migrates from India to America,
but to her everything is weird, and she feels like she cannot fit.
The experiences that the Ganguli family finds in America are entirely foreign especially since they
are living in an entirely new environment. They are an Indian family trying to style in the American
setting. Ashima finds it difficult to settle in a different country and in ... Show more content on

Through Ashima, the reader can relate to the emotions and feel about culture, alienation, and
homesickness of the immigrants (Lahiri, 22). Ashima is traditional and misses her life in
Calcutta and thus finds it difficult to settle down in America. Ashima feels like a foreigner
because she cannot relate to the new culture and does not seem to make friends in school. Her
life as an immigrant gives Ashima a new point of view that her children do not know about
because they were born and bred in America. Ashima does not like that Gogol s choices in
women because they do not follow the Bengali traditions. When her husband dies, she is
confronted with another idea of moving from a place she calls home and to her that is foreign.
(Lahiri, 22) To Ashima, being in a new location that has different traditions is foreign. Moving

Analysis Of Paperboy
Melanie McCabe s poem Paperboy uses an abundant amount of imagery to tell the story of a
twelve year old girl s lusting for a seventeen year old paperboy whose paper route brings him to
the young girl s house everyday. The speaker describes how she saw the boy as more than
human a gift from God and how her swooning for the gift manifested itself in her life (2).
Through the apt use of imagery, the speaker helps readers recall their first sexual attraction. At
the very beginning of the poem, the speaker uses concrete images to describe her love, but as the
poem progresses, the speaker uses abstract imagery to describe how she dreamed of the boy at
night and her waking in the morning. As the poem opens, the speaker describes the boy and her
initial reactions to him. The speaker uses concrete images like his bicep in the twilight, his stack
/ of [newspapers], and [the speaker s] shoe / stubbing at the shafts of grass to set the scene of her
first viewing of the paperboy (3 5). These images allow for readers to get a feeling of familiarity
with the subject of the speaker s lecherous desires before the poem shifts to the abstract dream
world. Just as many children who are experiencing their first encounter with their own sexual
drive, the speaker sees the boy mostly as an object instead of a real human being with emotions
as evidenced by her distinct memory of his body his muscles and her complete lack of memory of
words exchanged between her and the paperboy (3, 6). However, for almost the entire remainder of
the poem, the speaker no longer uses concrete imagery in her story.
Almost immediately after telling the readers about her first crush, the speaker, setting up for the
second part of her story, begins to use vague phrases and abstract imagery to tell the rest of her
story. The speaker remembers lingering far past curfew [with the paperboy] and the gray [air]
that surrounded her (7 8). She tells of the huge shadow of the hickory that shrouded her with
darkness, that allowed her to be in the shade (9). These vague details and the darkness offered by
the tree s shade allows for the interpretation that the speaker will soon fall asleep in the hickory s
shadow and begin to dream of the

Mulan And Star Wars Comparison
Both Mulan from the Disney movie Mulan and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars episode IV A
New Hope follow a similar heroic journey. There are of course differences including the mentor, the
herald, and the way each character accepts their call to adventure.
Most mentors in stories are believed to be serious, wise and helpful. In Star Warsthat mentor is Obi
Wan Kenobi, who helps Luke throughout his journey and trains him to be a Jedi. In the movie
Mulan however, the mentor is a small powerless dragon named Mushu. The most noticeable
difference between the two mentors is the motive and way to train their hero. Mushu was not the
first choice to guard/mentor Mulan, not that he was a choice at all. But after accidentally breaking
the statue of the chosen guardian, he needed to take matters into his own hands to avoid getting

Creationism vs. Evolution Essay
Where we come from is a question as old as mankind itself. There are countless numbers of
religions, each with their own twist on the origins of earth and mankind, but one of the most highly
visible debates would be creationism vs. evolution. Depending on where your beliefs lie, the Earth
has been around somewhere in the neighborhoodof 6,000 years to 4.5 billion years. One would
tend to believe that this vast difference in time would make it impossible to have 2 theories that
are so widely accepted. However this debate gives you just that. Each argument has its variations,
however it comes down to either God created the Earth and all things in it as they are now or that
life today has evolved from a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the same idea, the Old Earth train of thought is that the days mentioned in Genesis were
actually up to many millions of years each. This is one of many theories that justifies the actual
age of the Earth being around 4.5 billion years old. The third view states that the story of
creation contained in Genesis is not a literal or even a chronological account of happenings. It is
instead a guide promoting a six day workweek with the seventh day a day of worship to God. The
last view is much like the second, in that it considers the days to be God s workdays, which may
or may not be equal to an Earth calendar day. Each day represents a period of time that God
performed a major task. Each view has the same underlying concept that God created everything,
and the way it is today, it the way it was when it was created.
Webster s Dictionary defines evolution as a theory that the various types of animals and plants have
their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to
modification in successive generations. Like creation, evolution is not immune from differing of
opinions. Evolution is split between two frames of though, naturalistic and theistic.
Naturalistic evolution is pretty much cut and dry. It simply states that life started as a single one
celled organism. The universe was created 14 billion years ago, and the Earth was

The Wild West Rides Into The Sunset
Have you ever read a text that included items such as a bold cowboy, trusty horse, beautiful
female, or a dark villain in a dry, isolated, and undeveloped setting? If so, it s a great possibility that
you were reading a classic Western. Many readers of this genre would describe its stereotypes as
what I listed above. You can almost always find that protagonist cowboy hero, who tends to be a
good looking and sharp character that fights the dirty, rugged, evil villain in an epic climax while
trying to save his gorgeous and innocent lady. The setting is often a flat, unpopulated, and
undeveloped town, surrounded by mountains. The Western genre played a... Show more content on

However, Kolb describes Marshal Jack Potter as a nervous unarmed honeymooner, who rides a
train instead of a horse (98). In the story, Potter is described as wearing a new black suit that
most likely was purchased in San Antonio (23). This gives the reader the idea that the East
influenced the West a great deal, considering a hard nosed, sharp shooting town hero most likely
should not be wearing a new suit that was made in the East. The stereotypical western criminal
is mean, dirty, selfish, and constantly stirring up trouble. In The Bride, your criminal is
Scratchy Wilson. However, as Kolb describes, the difference between Scratchy and most other
Western villains is that Scratchy s main crime seems to be that he can t hold his liquor (98). The
eastern culture is brought up again in the story through Scratchy s clothes. You d expect to
visualize a rough and dirty character whose soul is as dark as his clothes. With Scratchy, you get
a criminal wearing a maroon colored flannel shirt that was made in New York (24). Crane uses
these characters to portray an idea to his reader s that the influence the East has on the West is far
greater than the average person would expect.
Expectations for a women in a Western story are generally perceived to be a beautiful, innocent,

Theory Of Moral Development In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
Jem s Analysis
Kohlberg s Theory of Moral Development reflects on the idea that people s decisions are based on
how they process the importance of a situation. According to his theory, there are three stages of
moral development: preconventional, conventional, and postconventional. Each level is based on
how a person s reflects to making a moral decision. In each level there are two stages on how their
level of sophistication affected their way of thinking.
The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an example of moral development because as the
book progresses the reader can tell how Jem finds himself having to make moral decisions.
Although the book is narrated by Scout (Jem s younger sister) the reader can see that Jem changes
his way of thinking as the situations that occur makes him think a certain way. Jem has to
experience and observe situations that make him question his way of seeing the world around him.
Jem begins the moral development at conventional because in the beginning of the book Jem is
more worried about winning the approval of his friends and showing his bravery.
The first stage in Kohlberg s Moral Development is called Preconventional and that is when a
person is more worried about the reward and the punishment that comes with a certain situation
(powerpoint). When a person is at this stage they are more worried about what would happen to
them than to the people around them. A child who is at this stage has not yet adapted to the society s

Assisted Suicide Should Be Legal
What is assisted suicide? By definition, assisted suicide is suicide committed with the assistance of
another person, usually a physician. This definition has changed slightly from the past. Assisted
suicide used to be defined more as when a terminally ill patient would be assisted in their death by
a doctor or physician. To some, it is a way to end the pain and suffering of a terminally ill loved
one. To others, assisted suicide is considered killing people without giving them a chance.
People also believe that assisted suicide, euthanasia, and hospice care are all the same thing.
Assisted suicide is a worldwide controversy and has been for many years. Questions of morals
and ethics come into play heavily when discussing whether assisted suicide should be legal or
not. Assisted suicide is legal in only five states in the United States. Oregon being the first of
those states, legalized assisted suicide back in the 1990s. Canada on the other hand, only has
assisted suicide legalized in one Province. That province is Quebec and their definition of
assisted suicide leans closer to being euthanasia which causes more controversy to whether
assisted suicide should be legal in Canada. Other countries have a much more strict outlook on the
issue. There are many positive uses for what is called assisted suicide that can help alleviate
people s pain and suffering in a beneficial way to the patient and family; however with assisted
suicide comes the negative factors when ethics

Persuasive Essay On Censorship
They say that the less you know the better, which couldn t be more true. Why bother with
information that will cause more stress and unnecessary worry in your life? This is where
censorship comes into play. Whether it be about the world or your country, there will always be
something you do not know. People automatically assume that it s a bad thing when certain
information is kept away from society. But is it? I mean, censored material is censored for a
reason! It s not a difficult concept to understand. Daily occurrences are often things that are seen
on the internet as well as on TV. Do you really want to know about some of the events that
happen on a daily basis? Events that could scar a person physically, emotionally, and
psychologically? Events that would be deemed inappropriate for certain ages? Or what about
actions that could be repeated again negatively? No one wants to live in a country like North
Korea; however, some action is necessary. North Korea has censored much of their country,
specifically, the internet. Different aspects of speech are removed, including hate speech. The
case is similar to different countries as well. In Canada, judges can deem what hate speech is and
have it removed from the internet (Brandon Gaille). Having a judge, someone who is of high order
and education, would be beneficial to society in this case.
I know it may be tough for some people to understand, but censorship is something that benefits
society, especially when it comes

Who Is Beno Mandelbrot
BenoГ®t B. Mandelbrot was a French and American mathematician scientist most widely
recognized as being the pioneer of fractal geometry. Mandelbrot was born on 20 November 1924
in Warsaw, Poland. Mandelbrot came from a family of Lithuanian Jews where his mother was a
dental surgeon and his father was a salesman of clothes. In 1936, at the age of twelve, his family
emigrated from Poland and settled in Paris, France. It was in Paris that Mandelbrot would be
introduced to mathematics by the Parisian mathematician, and his uncle, Scholem Mandelbrojt.

The Importance Of Popular Religion
Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society
focuses on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to
Robert Ellwood, Popular religion can be considered a sector and a very important sector of
popular culture. Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is
understood and practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly
nonreligious popular culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into
religious icons (131). Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in
108 years, the Cubs won the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago
celebrated immensely for this huge honor given to them.
The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago.
Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion,
individuals are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a

Sexual Orientation Cons
The debates on lesbian, gay, bi sexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights currently center around the
question of whether sexual orientation is a matter of choice, or not. If it is claimed that sexual
orientation is something that was handed down at birth and not a matter of choice, then, the act of
discrimination against this person would be wrong. The dispute draws on countless research
suggesting that sexual orientationis congenital. The anti gayideologues exploit these arguments. In
my mind, this is not up for debate. I have known and served with men and women who have
fought this fight for a very long time. I personally do not have an issue working or serving with
someone of the LGBTstatus. Discriminating against gay people is

Shape memory alloys (SMA) have attracted much attention in recent years, since they are smart (or
intelligent) materials, as well as functional materials, which already exist. These alloys possess the
characteristics of the shape memory effect (SME) and super elasticity (SE) which are caused by the
martensitic (or displacive) transformation (MT) and its reverse transformation to the parent
austenite phase; we define the characteristic transformation temperatures as follows; Ms: martensite
start temperature upon cooling; Mf: martensite finish

Suffering In Dante Alighieri s Inferno
Dante Alighieri s Inferno is a work of literature with many gruesome and intense scenes that leave a
significant impact on its audience. In Dante Alighieri s imagining of Hell, sinners are severely
punished at different degrees depending on the sins they committed while they were alive. Through
all of the intense parts of this story, what stood out the most to me was when the characters
ventured into the Ninth Bolgia of the Eighth Circle of Hell. Canto XXVIII of Infernois rather harsh
to read due to the goriness of what is happening to the sinners in this part of the story. As Dante and
Virgilmake their way down into the Inferno, their experiences continually grow in intensity. When
they reach the Eighth Circle of Hell, they are among the sinners who are suffering due to their
fraudulence. In the Ninth Bolgia they find the Sowers of Discord , who are punished for causing
conflict between people and ruining kinship, communities, and religion. For this, they are slashed
open by a devil... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sowers of discord do not seem like they should be so far down into the Inferno. It s fairly
surprising to see these people being mutilated and suffering in the second to last circle while
murderers reside in a circle above them. In the Seventh Circle there are great warmakers and
tyrants such as Alexander the Great, who wreaked havoc on entire countries for years and killed
numerous people, affecting and ruining so many lives. Meanwhile in the Eighth Circle we see
people such as Mohamet, who was a prophet and messenger to God, and Bertrand de Born, who
set the young king on to mutiny,/ son against father, father against son, (231; 135 136). Merely
wronging two people does not seem to compare to killing people. Orchestrating disagreements
doesn t seem like such an intolerable misdeed, which is why this scene shocked me so

The rise of minimalist cooking is changing the art of food photography. The following is a look at
some of the techniques adopted by photographers to capture the simplicity and the spirit of this
modern cuisine. Whether it is because of the recession or a genuine desire to downsize and
simplify, minimalist cooking has become extremely popular. Everything from expensive and hard
to acquire ingredients to rarely used, specialized utensils and equipment have been pared back to
the bare minimum. Less is definitely more. Many photographers have noticed this change, either
consciously or intuitively and are evolving and adapting their techniques to suit. The old
sumptuous saturated glistening overfilled image just doesn t seem to be a good match for this new
approach to cooking and food in general.
The photographers who get this and have a feel for the subject have started to utilize a few specific
techniques which serve to emphasize the subject matter but in a much more understated way and

Book Thief Summer Reading
The Book Thief Summer Reading Essay Over the summer of 2014 I read The Book Thief, a
novel by Markus Zusak. Prior to reading this book I honestly thought it was just going to be
another stereotypical WWII story that just revolves around a hidden Jew and the bland home
life of a nervous German family. I was proven wrong by the time I read the first chapter. The
Book Thief turned out to be so much more than I imagined it would be. The characters weren t
the typical stock characters I had predicted. They had their own personal struggles and lives
outside of hiding a Jew. Everything in the book had a story behind it, whether it be Max s
accordion or how Liesel came to live with a new family. There were almost no dull moments and I
was able to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From day one, Rudy was always determined to be Liesel s best friend. (Zusak 48) and that was
how it was with Georgie and I. Zusak says A snowball in the face is surely the perfect beginning
to a lasting friendship. (Zusak 48) My friendship with my neighbor also had a snowball to the
face start. Shortly after moving into his neighborhood, I was walking my dog Chloe but got
distracted and dropped the leash, and Chloe took off after a squirrel in Georgie s yard. I was too
busy trying to chase her down to watch where I was going and ended up running smack into
Georgie who was getting the newspaper from the end of his driveway. We began talking and
everything went from there. Both boys also did their share of eccentric acts, like Rudy s Jesse
Owens incident where he covered himself in charcoal and ran around the town s track, pretending
to be the famous olympic sprinter, Jesse Owens. Coming home one day and finding Georgie and
my little sister dressed as wizards pushing each other up and down the street in a wheelbarrow
certainly competes with the peculiar acts of Rudy Steiner.

Pros And Cons Of Community Corrections
Community Corrections
With any type of crime that is committed by an individual, there comes a set of guidelines to follow
when regarding which punishment that that particular individual will receive based on the
categorization of their crime. Crimes can be inherently categorized into two distinctly different
categories, the first of which being misdemeanors and the second being felonies. Sets of guidelines
will vary when considering the severity of the crime based on which category the crime will fall
under, as well as the prior criminal history of the individual who committed the particular crime that
they are being punished for.
From a statistical standpoint, there are nearly seven million individuals who are currently on
correctional supervision within the United States of America (DeMichele, 2014). Of those seven
million individuals, a meager two million or 30 percent are incarcerated within a jail or prison
environment (DeMichele, 2014). The remaining five million or 70 percent of those seven million
are currently being supervised through community corrections (DeMichele, 2014). The dramatic
growth in community based corrections over the last three decades is nothing short of astounding
(Wodahl, Ogle, Heck, 2011). In a span of less than 30 years, the number of offenders under
supervision in the community has more than tripled, with an estimated 5.1 million people under
probation and parole supervision in 2008 (Wodahl, Ogle, Heck, 2011).

Electronic Money Regulations provides that the aggrieved customer should report to the money

integration of the complaint handling mechanism which poses as a challenge to consumers when
they have lost their money during transfer. Shadrack Shubira commented that most customers fail

An Age Of Doubt By James Joyce
Frequently referred to as an age of doubt, the Modernist period of literature was characterized by
authors who sought to challenge the notion of a literary text containing a single truth or meaning.
Modernist writers went against societal and cultural customs by questioning literature and focusing
on the individual experience of a text. As a result, much of modern literature destabilizes meaning
through the use of ambiguityand suspense. Accordingly, ambiguity plays a central role in James
Joyces short story, Eveline. Throughout the story, nineteen year old Eveline contemplates leaving
her home in Dublin to pursue a happier life with a sailor named Frank. At home, she leads a
dismal life with her violent father, and therefore the prospect of life with Frank in Buenos Ayres
presents itself as an enticing escape. However, Eveline finds herself trapped between familiarity
and freedom, between what she could do and what she wants to do. While numerous critics have
attempted to uncover whether Eveline favours her staying or leaving, the story remains ambiguous
with its two mutually exclusive meanings (Luft 48). In Joyce s Eveline, ambiguity obscures the
answer the reader seeks and reveals that Eveline cannot make a choice because her situation is
inescapable putting the reader in a position of hermeneutic conflict, analogous to Eveline s
irresolvable inner conflict (Luft 50).
Throughout Eveline, the ambiguity surrounding Frank s character is a major source of

Media Impact On Immigration
Quetext
About FAQ Contact
The topic of immigration has been a focus of controversy throughout the entire international
community. Waves of immigration influx in nations have caused surges in nationalist tendencies
amongst political leaders and citizens alike. Fears of cultural erosion, resource exhaustion, and
economic struggle has shown nations that were once supportive and progressive in their actions
towards the acceptance of immigration have moved inward on themselves to protect themselves
from a culturally diverse world. The reason to review this document is to question and analyze its
attempt to explain and define the growth of nationalism in democratic countries, to be specific the
United Kingdom, and how these surges occur, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end this document does take a unique approach in showing the extended reach and influence
the media has in shaping the outlooks of citizens on the world and society wither the events
illustrated directly affect the individual or not. The emphasis on how the media is creating a
progressive dilemma through the portrayal of increasing numbers of immigrants into the nation and
the threats this influx has on the cultural stability and longevity of the nation explains how the
citizens of the nation, wither directly affected by immigration or not, move towards a more
protectionist and nationalist state of mind in order to promote the conservation of the nation s
ethnic culture. The act of addressing the problems with public opinion when not provided with
all of the facts, but only certain facts, does show its colors and makes for a strong topic to be
discussed and addressed in further literature due to being only lightly addressed here. Being that
the biggest problem with this paper is the fact that there was such a small and focused group of
individuals polled, and no others, it would be best that future research into this matter should
contain a broader range of data, while still focusing on the central topic of how perceived effects of
immigration cause growth in nationalist and

Dissertation on Uranium and its Isotopes Essay
1 Introduction
Uranium (U) has received much focus from scientists to government officials throughout the world
since the discovery of fission. With attention increasing on uranium, specifically the fissile isotope
235, ideas of controlling acquisition was brought forth. It was suggested by scientists of the
Manhattan Project that some organized system of control was needed on nuclear technology,
including uranium [citation needed]. The Acheson Lillienthal report (look up report) described the
imperfect nature of technology controls, and suggested an approach focused more on material
controls [citation needed]. While the current International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
safeguards system takes advantage of material controls, accounting ... Show more content on

1.1 Natural Uranium Variations in Geologic Ores Uranium consists of four naturally occurring
isotopes (238U, 235U, 234U, and 236U), with multiple oxidation states. Variations in uranium
isotopics are unique in that both chemical (redox interactions) and nuclear processes (decay and
volume fractionation) play an important role. Four oxidation states known for uranium ions in
aqueous solutions (+III to +VI) which usually exist as U+3, U+4, UO2+, and UO2+2 [Gindler,
1978]. Under oxidizing conditions, uranium is primarily present in the hexavalent (VI) state, which
can form highly mobile soluble complexes (primarily with carbonates) [Langmuir, 1997]. In a
reducing environment, however, uranium will primarily occur in the tetravalent (IV) state. U+4
tends to form relatively insoluble complexes and has higher sorption kinetics compared to the
hexavalent state [Langmuir, 1997].
With an increase in measurement capabilities, all three isotopic ratios (relative to 238U) have
been shown to naturally vary in some degree due to various factors. The first uranium isotopic
that was discovered to have natural variation was 234U/238U, the increased abundance of 234U
in seawater (~15%) perhaps being the best example [Chen et al., 1986]. Variations in 234U are a
consequence of an increased mobility of 234U relative to other uranium isotopes due to redox
interactions. Production of 234U occurs through О± decay of 238U, which subsequently results

in this sentence the word she uses to convey active voice is through the word hunting. In this
sentence she describes how as she was departed from her lover, her world had come crashing

with her mother and previous servants Hortensia, Miguel, and Alfonso. The first main encounter
Esperanza experiences of growth is an encounter with a poor girl who wants her doll. Her reaction
was to hide her doll instantly because this doll was her last gift from her father and the little girl

Therefore, the author creates this scene to be the first lesson of kindness Esperanza experiences
because her mother makes a yarn doll for the crying child. Although, she is relieved that they get
off at the next stop because she doesn t want to be reminded of her selfish behavior (pg. 72). The
reader becomes aware of just how rich and spoiled Esperanza was because she sees an innocent
poor child to be so repulsive to her. The author writes about the character s relief when the child
is gone because it proves that she has not changed and is still entitled. However, this event is the
first step in Esperanza s realization and awareness of her selfish ways because she acknowledges
that her behavior was selfish. Moreover, they begin their new life in Arvin, California in a farm

Rhodospirillum Rubrum Research Paper
Rhodospirillum rubrum is a gram negative, mesophilic proteobacteria; it has the ability to grow
best at moderate temperatures (25 30В®C) and is one of many bacteria responsible for nitrogen
fixation. Nitrogen fixation is the chemical processes by which atmospheric nitrogen is assimilated
into organic compounds, especially by certain microorganisms as part of the nitrogen cycle
(Dictionary.com, 2015). R. rubrum specifically uses nitrogenase to convert atmospheric nitrogen
gas to ammonia. It is a spiral shaped (spirilla) bacteriaand is polarly flagellated and therefore
motile. R. rubrum like many other purple non sulfur bacteria are found in more natural settings.
They are particularly found in pond water, mud or a sewage sample which is perfect for its growth
type (Withers, 2000) (Biorealm, 2011).
Rhodospirillum rubrum is also a facultative anaerobe which means it has the ability to make ATP
by aerobic respiration if oxygen is present, but is capable of switching to alcoholic fermentation or
anaerobic respiration if oxygen is absent. It contains molecules in its chromophore particles called
carotenoid and bacteriochlorophyll (they have an absorption spectra of 800 925 nm) which helps
absorb light and convert it to energy and also gives it its distinct purple red colour under anaerobic

The Cross Pollination Religious Customs And Material Culture
The cross pollination religious customs and material culture in the Cuban Diaspora has provided a
wealth of indigenous and assimilative sources (Gordon, 2014: 53), and this has afforded Mendive a
rich abundance of inherited iconography of fauna, flora and otherworldly phenomena to consume
and use in the process of creating his artworks. Mendive is able to animate the pantheon of Orishas,
depicted as either interacting with or sometimes assimilating human postures and gestures. Such
representations of the SanterГa cosmic beings investigate concepts of hybridity, New Word
practices of syncretism, and notions of a perceived combining of different and seemingly
contradictory beliefs through the blending of customs and traditions of different schools of thought
and discourse (Turner, 2014).
The earliest mention of syncretism appeared in the philosophy of Plutarch as the act or system of
blending, combining or reconciling inharmonious elements... to forget dissensions and to unite in
the face of common danger (Showerman, 1910 11: 292 93). In The Creation of Afro Caribbean
Religions and their Incorporation of Catholic Elements Bettina Schmidt maintains that syncretism
is too simple a term to use in attempting to encapsulate the full meaning behind the creation process
of SanterГa. According to her, it upholds the belief that the Cuban religion was formed by the sheer
mixing of the dominant Catholicism doctrine with the suppressed religious practices of the Yoruba
people

Meetings Can Be Beneficial If They Are Organized
Meetings can be beneficial if they are organized correctly. A meeting needs to have a purpose. An
agenda should be created so that everyone in attendance knows what to expect. The individual
who is in charge of planning the meeting has a very important job when it comes to preparing an
actionable meeting. Tasks need to be assigned as well as deadlines for those tasks to ensure
everything that needs to get done will get done.
Unorganized Meeting I have attended a poorly organized meeting. The staff is left to wonder what
needs to be done and why did we meet here in the first place. Although we talk about things that
are being done in the office and things that have yet to be done, those tasks are just thrown out
there. The coordinator to the meeting does not have a list of individuals whom they think would be
good for the task, or either loosely asks for volunteers who may or may not volunteer during that
session. If an individual does volunteer to complete a task we are not notified, and if no one
volunteers I feel we are working it creating a duplication of effort. This session was highly
unorganized.
Four Steps to Overcome Ineffectiveness Next, I will discuss four steps mentioned in the textbook
that are utilized to overcome the ineffectiveness of meetings. These steps are assigning specific
tasks to specific people, review all actions and responsibilities at the end of the meeting, provide

after.(Lorimer 44) Marijuana tends to diminish the ambition and motivation in the user. In the long
run, it may cause lung cancer and other respiratory problems. Cocaine is another popular, illegal,

Essay On My Brother Sam Is Dead
War: The Real Price To Be Paid In war the dead pay the debts for the living, (Collier and Collier
167). The real cost of war is so great that the thought of paying the price is rather unfathomable.
In My Brother Sam Is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier we get a glimpse
into the lives of not only the Meekers but the people of their town and we observe the price they
paid for one of the biggest and most powerful wars of our American history, The American
Revolution. In this historical fiction, Tim Meeker must choose whether he wants to be a loyal
subject to the king of England or a rebellious and freedom yearning American Patriot like his role
model and brother, Sam Meeker. By 13 year old Tim Meeker and ten year old... Show more content

Something as simple as perspective among Eliphalet and Sam tears the Meeker family apart. In My
Brother Sam Is Dead by Collier and Collier talk about how people of all ages fought in the war.
Yale students did rush away to get weapons and join the war in 1775. (Collier and Collier 214).
Sam was one of those Yale students who went to fight and among him, as explained in the previous
quote, were many others. Although Sam thought highly of leaving school to fight Eliphalet Meeker
felt otherwise. Eliphalet Meeker says to Sam, Now take off that uniform and go back to your
studies. We also see a clash of generations with the adults in Redding who are also against war. Mr.
Beach, the Pastor of the Anglican church in Redding, says, God meant man to obey. He meant
children to obey their fathers, he meant men to obey their kings. The constant argument between
the generations is whether or not the younger generations should even have any input when it came
to the war. This constant clash of generations was not only causing issues between Loyalists and
Patriots but also causing problems between the generations that comprise each side.
In My Brother Sam Is Dead by Collier and Collier the general argument between Eliphalet and Sam
has to do with Sam ideals of war and Eliphalet s realities of war. Sam says, It s not the money, it s
the principle. (Collier and Collier 21). Sam fights for his principle of freedom and the glory of war.

Child Trauma
A number of children around the world are commonly exposed to some form of trauma which
can include physical, sexual and emotional abuse (Wethington et al., 2008). This paper will be
focusing on children between the ages of four to twelve years old who had experienced trauma.
For that reason, the paper will be focusing on art and play therapy as being effective in working
with traumatized children. This paper will begin with the discussion of the importance of knowing
and having an understanding of how trauma affects children along with being aware of approaches
that can be used including art and play therapy. From there, the paper will get in detail about
trauma including what it is and what kind of impact it can have on children who have... Show more

Release play therapy involves the therapist picking out toys that relate to a child s traumatic
experience as a way to help the child to play out a particular situation (Ogawa, 2004). With this
process, a child can communicate their feelings and struggles in a safe environment (Ogawa,
2004). In child centered play therapy, communication takes place through the therapeutic
relationship between the therapist and child (Ogawa, 2004). As a result, this kind of therapy
requires a therapist to be genuine, show unconditional positive acceptance and express empathy
(Ogawa, 2004). The belief in this approach is that children have an inborn ability to adjust and
grow (Ogawa, 2004). During therapy, children are the ones who decide how to deal with their
own experiences and gain control (Ogawa, 2004). The children decide what kind of play they are
willing to use for personal expression (Ogawa, 2004). Overall, both these approaches that consist
of either a directed or non directed approach are great with working with children who have

Taking a Look at the Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies have been a staple in Major League baseball for over 120 years. The
Phillies are one of the League s oldest teams dating back all the way to the year 1883. Over the
years the Phillies have acquired many accolades and accomplishments; although the Phillies are
a decorated team for many positive reasons they have also become the league s most losing
team, with over 10,000 losses. Although the Philadelphia franchise may have the most losses in
any professional sport, whether it is football, basketball, or soccer, they have had many playoff
runs and even a few World Series appearances. Throughout the winning and the losing seasons
the Phillies have had some very good players, which went on to be a Hall of Famers, while many
of the players were mediocre at best. Although not all of the players that played in Philadelphia
were good, they had heart and drive to not let the rambunctious fans in Philadelphia not get the
best of them. Whenever a family goes to one of these baseball games, the game may not be the
center of attention for the kids or even the adults with the most entertaining mascot of all the
Phillie Phanatic dancing around and being goofy in front of 20,000 people in the stands. The
Phillies are a Major League Baseballteam, located in Philadelphia, PA. The Philadelphia Phillies
were founded in 1883,originally named the Philadelphia Quakers to replace the team from
Worchester, Massachusetts (Rich Westcott, 15). In 1884 there name was

John Scopes Background
On March 22, 1925 Tennessee passed the Butler Act. Making it unlawful in public schools to teach
any theory that denies the story of divine creation as taught by the Bible. But to teach instead that
man was descended from a lower order of animals. It was in the small town of Dayton, Tennessee
where a 24 year old fresh out of college , high school substitute named John Scopes taught the
theory of evolutionto a biology class. This was just two months after the passing of the Butler Act.
John Scopes was then charged with teaching evolution in public school. The proceeding trial will
not only become a battle between science and religion but it will bring together two of the most
prominent attorneys of the early 20th century. Clarence Darrowand

The Potential Of Robotic Surgical Devices Hampered By...
The Potential of Robotic Surgical Devices Hindered by Inadequate Regulations According to UC
Davis Heath System, Debra Johnson, a sixty year old woman diagnosed with endometrial cancer,

This includes the increase in dexterity, the restore of proper hand eye coordination, and
improvement of visualization (Meyers et al.). In Cameron Scott s article from the Healthline News,
Is da Vinci Robotic Surgerya Revolution or a Ripoff?, he states that robotic devices including the
da Vinci surgical device succeeds well in urology and the removal of prostate. Prostate removal
is extremely difficult for open surgery practice, however the da Vinci made is easier with about
90 percent of these kinds of surgeries are now done robotically (Scott). Some evidence even
suggest that with robotics used in prostatectomy, there is less blood loss, faster recovery, and
fewer internal scarring according to reports mention in Eastham s article (Eastham et al.). There are
many other examples from hospitals and manufactures that support the uses of robotic surgery and
its benefits. However, even though these new technologies of robotic devices are supposedly be
helping patients and making surgeries less invasive, they are still many concerns of how they
should be properly regulated.
This all began in the year 2000, when the Food and Drug Administration approved the latest and
most popular medical device, the Da Vinci Surgical System manufactured by Intuitive Surgical Inc.
Today, over 3,300 systems of da Vinci are used in operating rooms today according to the Mayo

Jurassic World, a dinosaur amusement park built on the island that was once home to the original Jurassic Park, sought to increase park attendance by genetically creating a new dinosaur. Masroni, the owner of the amusement park, asks Claire to consult with American Navy veteran and Velociraptors trainer Owen Grady on the new dinosaurs containment. This new attraction, the Indominus Rex, proves to be extremely dangerous, uncontrollable, and uncontainable. The Indominus Rex ends up escaping and goes around the island killing both people and dinosaurs. Claire decides to have the park evacuated, but Zach and Gray ignore the evacuation order, opting... The constant stressor in the movie would be the Indominus rex who poses as a threat to their safety and confronts them with the need to stay alive, to survive. Phase one of the GAS, alarm, can be seen when Owen and the guard realize Indominus is with them inside the paddock. We see them become more alert and we can guess that their hearts have begun to race. During Phase 2, resistance, your temperature, blood pressure, and respiration remain high. Your adrenal glands pump hormones into your bloodstream. You are fully engaged, summoning all your resources to meet the challenge (Myers, 2014, p.393). Owen experiences phase two as he runs as fast as he can towards the slight opening as Indominus follows close behind. Adrenaline has kicked in and he s using everything in him to run faster. • 3. Avocado Leaf Plasticity Essay DIFFERENCES IN SUN AND SHADE LEAVES OF AVOCADO TREES BY PHENOTYPIC PLASTICITY INTRODUCTION: Phenotypic plasticity, or differing phenotypes from one genotype in different environmental conditions, is a way for sessile organisms to adapt to changing environmental conditions (Valladares et al., 2007). Plasticity was expected to be abundant, however, it did not occur as often in nature due to resource limitations and environmental stress (Valladares et al., 2007). An experiment by Matos tested the phenotypic plasticity to light availability in shade and sun leaves of coffee trees (Matos et al., 2009). Their research indicated that compared [to] sun leaves, shade leaves had a lower stomatal density, a thinner palisade mesophyll, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process was done twice on each tree in the understory for shade leaves, and in the canopy for sun leaves. Each leaf was measured for its surface area, length to width ratio, mass, specific leaf mass, and color. Surface area was measured by a leaf area meter in squared centimeters. Length to width ratio was measured by measuring the length (vertically along the bridge of the leaf) and the width (horizontally on the widest part of the leaf) with a ruler in centimeters, and dividing the length by the width. Mass was calculated by a balance in grams. Specific leaf mass (thickness) was measured by dividing the mass by its surface area in grams per squared centimeter. Color was measured by having three reference leaves provided by the instructor, indicating light (L), medium (M), and dark (D) leaves and compared our collected leaves. After recording all of the data, these data were then input into a statistical program called StatCat to determine normality through a normality test. The data for surface area, length to width ratio, mass, and specific leaf mass for sun and shade leaves were both normal, therefore, we chose a paired sample t test for all of them. A normality test was not needed for color for sun and shade leaves due to it being a nominal scale data. The number of light, medium, and dark shade leaves were tallied up according to color, and the same was done for the sun leaves. A contingency table was made in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The traditions and identities of each character are intertwined in the notion of foreign culture and ethnic minority culture. The association of the alien characters in the new community demonstrates a new identity construction. This type of concept of a new life in a new place brings out a foreign experience that is hard to adapt. In the story Namesake, Ashima migrates from India to America, but to her everything is weird, and she feels like she cannot fit. • 5. Analysis Of Paperboy Melanie McCabe s poem Paperboy uses an abundant amount of imagery to tell the story of a twelve year old girl s lusting for a seventeen year old paperboy whose paper route brings him to the young girl s house everyday. The speaker describes how she saw the boy as more than human a gift from God and how her swooning for the gift manifested itself in her life (2). Through the apt use of imagery, the speaker helps readers recall their first sexual attraction. At the very beginning of the poem, the speaker uses concrete images to describe her love, but as the poem progresses, the speaker uses abstract imagery to describe how she dreamed of the boy at night and her waking in the morning. As the poem opens, the speaker describes the boy and her initial reactions to him. The speaker uses concrete images like his bicep in the twilight, his stack / of [newspapers], and [the speaker s] shoe / stubbing at the shafts of grass to set the scene of her first viewing of the paperboy (3 5). These images allow for readers to get a feeling of familiarity with the subject of the speaker s lecherous desires before the poem shifts to the abstract dream world. Just as many children who are experiencing their first encounter with their own sexual drive, the speaker sees the boy mostly as an object instead of a real human being with emotions as evidenced by her distinct memory of his body his muscles and her complete lack of memory of words exchanged between her and the paperboy (3, 6). However, for almost the entire remainder of the poem, the speaker no longer uses concrete imagery in her story. Almost immediately after telling the readers about her first crush, the speaker, setting up for the second part of her story, begins to use vague phrases and abstract imagery to tell the rest of her story. The speaker remembers lingering far past curfew [with the paperboy] and the gray [air] that surrounded her (7 8). She tells of the huge shadow of the hickory that shrouded her with darkness, that allowed her to be in the shade (9). These vague details and the darkness offered by the tree s shade allows for the interpretation that the speaker will soon fall asleep in the hickory s shadow and begin to dream of the ... There are countless numbers of religions, each with their own twist on the origins of earth and mankind, but one of the most highly visible debates would be creationism vs. evolution. Depending on where your beliefs lie, the Earth has been around somewhere in the neighborhoodof 6,000 years to 4.5 billion years. One would tend to believe that this vast difference in time would make it impossible to have 2 theories that are so widely accepted. However this debate gives you just that. This is one of many theories that justifies the actual age of the Earth being around 4.5 billion years old. The third view states that the story of creation contained in Genesis is not a literal or even a chronological account of happenings. It is instead a guide promoting a six day workweek with the seventh day a day of worship to God. The last view is much like the second, in that it considers the days to be God s workdays, which may or may not be equal to an Earth calendar day. Each day represents a period of time that God performed a major task. Each view has the same underlying concept that God created everything, and the way it is today, it the way it was when it was created. Webster s Dictionary defines evolution as a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modification in successive generations. Like creation, evolution is not immune from differing of opinions. Evolution is split between two frames of though, naturalistic and theistic. Naturalistic evolution is pretty much cut and dry. If so, it s a great possibility that you were reading a classic Western. Many readers of this genre would describe its stereotypes as what I listed above. You can almost always find that protagonist cowboy hero, who tends to be a good looking and sharp character that fights the dirty, rugged, evil villain in an epic climax while trying to save his gorgeous and innocent lady. However, Kolb describes Marshal Jack Potter as a nervous unarmed honeymooner, who rides a train instead of a horse (98). In the story, Potter is described as wearing a new black suit that most likely was purchased in San Antonio (23). This gives the reader the idea that the East influenced the West a great deal, considering a hard nosed, sharp shooting town hero most likely should not be wearing a new suit that was made in the East. The stereotypical western criminal is mean, dirty, selfish, and constantly stirring up trouble. In The Bride, your criminal is Scratchy Wilson. However, as Kolb describes, the difference between Scratchy and most other Western villains is that Scratchy s main crime seems to be that he can t hold his liquor (98). The eastern culture is brought up again in the story through Scratchy s clothes. You d expect to visualize a rough and dirty character whose soul is as dark as his clothes. With Scratchy, you get a criminal wearing a maroon colored flannel shirt that was made in New York (24). • 14. Theory Of Moral Development In To Kill A Mockingbird By... Jem s Analysis Kohlberg s Theory of Moral Development reflects on the idea that people s decisions are based on how they process the importance of a situation. According to his theory, there are three stages of moral development: preconventional, conventional, and postconventional. Each level is based on how a person s reflects to making a moral decision. In each level there are two stages on how their level of sophistication affected their way of thinking. The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an example of moral development because as the book progresses the reader can tell how Jem finds himself having to make moral decisions. Although the book is narrated by Scout (Jem s younger sister) the reader can see that Jem changes his way of thinking as the situations that occur makes him think a certain way. Jem has to experience and observe situations that make him question his way of seeing the world around him. Jem begins the moral development at conventional because in the beginning of the book Jem is more worried about winning the approval of his friends and showing his bravery. The first stage in Kohlberg s Moral Development is called Preconventional and that is when a person is more worried about the reward and the punishment that comes with a certain situation (powerpoint). When a person is at this stage they are more worried about what would happen to them than to the people around them. A child who is at this stage has not yet adapted to the society s ... • 15. Assisted Suicide Should Be Legal What is assisted suicide? By definition, assisted suicide is suicide committed with the assistance of another person, usually a physician. This definition has changed slightly from the past. Assisted suicide used to be defined more as when a terminally ill patient would be assisted in their death by a doctor or physician. To some, it is a way to end the pain and suffering of a terminally ill loved one. To others, assisted suicide is considered killing people without giving them a chance. People also believe that assisted suicide, euthanasia, and hospice care are all the same thing. Assisted suicide is a worldwide controversy and has been for many years. Questions of morals and ethics come into play heavily when discussing whether assisted suicide should be legal or not. Assisted suicide is legal in only five states in the United States. Oregon being the first of those states, legalized assisted suicide back in the 1990s. Canada on the other hand, only has assisted suicide legalized in one Province. That province is Quebec and their definition of assisted suicide leans closer to being euthanasia which causes more controversy to whether assisted suicide should be legal in Canada. Other countries have a much more strict outlook on the issue. There are many positive uses for what is called assisted suicide that can help alleviate people s pain and suffering in a beneficial way to the patient and family; however with assisted suicide comes the negative factors when ethics ... Why bother with information that will cause more stress and unnecessary worry in your life? This is where censorship comes into play. Whether it be about the world or your country, there will always be something you do not know. People automatically assume that it s a bad thing when certain information is kept away from society. But is it? I mean, censored material is censored for a reason! It s not a difficult concept to understand. Daily occurrences are often things that are seen on the internet as well as on TV. Do you really want to know about some of the events that happen on a daily basis? Events that could scar a person physically, emotionally, and psychologically? Events that would be deemed inappropriate for certain ages? Or what about actions that could be repeated again negatively? No one wants to live in a country like North Korea; however, some action is necessary. North Korea has censored much of their country, specifically, the internet. Different aspects of speech are removed, including hate speech. The case is similar to different countries as well. In Canada, judges can deem what hate speech is and have it removed from the internet (Brandon Gaille). Having a judge, someone who is of high order and education, would be beneficial to society in this case. • 20. The Importance Of Popular Religion Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society focuses on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to Robert Ellwood, Popular religion can be considered a sector and a very important sector of popular culture. Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is understood and practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly nonreligious popular culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into religious icons (131). Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in 108 years, the Cubs won the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago celebrated immensely for this huge honor given to them. The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago. Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion, individuals are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Usually, adults are given off work, while children are given a break from school to celebrate this day. This is how the parade was treated. The entire city of Chicago gave students the day off to be able to go to the parade, although this day is not a holiday at all. The parade is like a ritual in religion, because of all the things Chicago did that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If it is claimed that sexual orientation is something that was handed down at birth and not a matter of choice, then, the act of discrimination against this person would be wrong. The dispute draws on countless research suggesting that sexual orientationis congenital. The anti gayideologues exploit these arguments. In my mind, this is not up for debate. In Dante Alighieri s imagining of Hell, sinners are severely punished at different degrees depending on the sins they committed while they were alive. Through all of the intense parts of this story, what stood out the most to me was when the characters ventured into the Ninth Bolgia of the Eighth Circle of Hell. Canto XXVIII of Infernois rather harsh to read due to the goriness of what is happening to the sinners in this part of the story. As Dante and Virgilmake their way down into the Inferno, their experiences continually grow in intensity. When they reach the Eighth Circle of Hell, they are among the sinners who are suffering due to their fraudulence. Meanwhile in the Eighth Circle we see people such as Mohamet, who was a prophet and messenger to God, and Bertrand de Born, who set the young king on to mutiny,/ son against father, father against son, (231; 135 136). The following is a look at some of the techniques adopted by photographers to capture the simplicity and the spirit of this modern cuisine. Whether it is because of the recession or a genuine desire to downsize and simplify, minimalist cooking has become extremely popular. Everything from expensive and hard to acquire ingredients to rarely used, specialized utensils and equipment have been pared back to the bare minimum. Less is definitely more. Many photographers have noticed this change, either consciously or intuitively and are evolving and adapting their techniques to suit. The old sumptuous saturated glistening overfilled image just doesn t seem to be a good match for this new approach to cooking and food in general. The photographers who get this and have a feel for the subject have started to utilize a few specific techniques which serve to emphasize the subject matter but in a much more understated way and this article will lay out ... Prior to reading this book I honestly thought it was just going to be another stereotypical WWII story that just revolves around a hidden Jew and the bland home life of a nervous German family. I was proven wrong by the time I read the first chapter. The Book Thief turned out to be so much more than I imagined it would be. The characters weren t the typical stock characters I had predicted. They had their own personal struggles and lives outside of hiding a Jew. Everything in the book had a story behind it, whether it be Max s accordion or how Liesel came to live with a new family. • 27. Pros And Cons Of Community Corrections Community Corrections With any type of crime that is committed by an individual, there comes a set of guidelines to follow when regarding which punishment that that particular individual will receive based on the categorization of their crime. Crimes can be inherently categorized into two distinctly different categories, the first of which being misdemeanors and the second being felonies. Sets of guidelines will vary when considering the severity of the crime based on which category the crime will fall under, as well as the prior criminal history of the individual who committed the particular crime that they are being punished for. From a statistical standpoint, there are nearly seven million individuals who are currently on correctional supervision within the United States of America (DeMichele, 2014). Of those seven million individuals, a meager two million or 30 percent are incarcerated within a jail or prison environment (DeMichele, 2014). The remaining five million or 70 percent of those seven million are currently being supervised through community corrections (DeMichele, 2014). The dramatic growth in community based corrections over the last three decades is nothing short of astounding (Wodahl, Ogle, Heck, 2011). In a span of less than 30 years, the number of offenders under supervision in the community has more than tripled, with an estimated 5.1 million people under probation and parole supervision in 2008 (Wodahl, Ogle, Heck, 2011). • 29. An Age Of Doubt By James Joyce Frequently referred to as an age of doubt, the Modernist period of literature was characterized by authors who sought to challenge the notion of a literary text containing a single truth or meaning. Modernist writers went against societal and cultural customs by questioning literature and focusing on the individual experience of a text. As a result, much of modern literature destabilizes meaning through the use of ambiguityand suspense. Accordingly, ambiguity plays a central role in James Joyces short story, Eveline. Throughout the story, nineteen year old Eveline contemplates leaving her home in Dublin to pursue a happier life with a sailor named Frank. At home, she leads a dismal life with her violent father, and therefore the prospect of life with Frank in Buenos Ayres presents itself as an enticing escape. However, Eveline finds herself trapped between familiarity and freedom, between what she could do and what she wants to do. While numerous critics have attempted to uncover whether Eveline favours her staying or leaving, the story remains ambiguous with its two mutually exclusive meanings (Luft 48). In Joyce s Eveline, ambiguity obscures the answer the reader seeks and reveals that Eveline cannot make a choice because her situation is inescapable putting the reader in a position of hermeneutic conflict, analogous to Eveline s irresolvable inner conflict (Luft 50). Throughout Eveline, the ambiguity surrounding Frank s character is a major source of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The emphasis on how the media is creating a progressive dilemma through the portrayal of increasing numbers of immigrants into the nation and the threats this influx has on the cultural stability and longevity of the nation explains how the citizens of the nation, wither directly affected by immigration or not, move towards a more protectionist and nationalist state of mind in order to promote the conservation of the nation s ethnic culture. The act of addressing the problems with public opinion when not provided with all of the facts, but only certain facts, does show its colors and makes for a strong topic to be discussed and addressed in further literature due to being only lightly addressed here. With attention increasing on uranium, specifically the fissile isotope 235, ideas of controlling acquisition was brought forth. It was suggested by scientists of the Manhattan Project that some organized system of control was needed on nuclear technology, including uranium [citation needed]. The Acheson Lillienthal report (look up report) described the imperfect nature of technology controls, and suggested an approach focused more on material controls [citation needed]. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1.1 Natural Uranium Variations in Geologic Ores Uranium consists of four naturally occurring isotopes (238U, 235U, 234U, and 236U), with multiple oxidation states. Variations in uranium isotopics are unique in that both chemical (redox interactions) and nuclear processes (decay and volume fractionation) play an important role. Four oxidation states known for uranium ions in aqueous solutions (+III to +VI) which usually exist as U+3, U+4, UO2+, and UO2+2 [Gindler, 1978]. Under oxidizing conditions, uranium is primarily present in the hexavalent (VI) state, which can form highly mobile soluble complexes (primarily with carbonates) [Langmuir, 1997]. In a reducing environment, however, uranium will primarily occur in the tetravalent (IV) state. U+4 tends to form relatively insoluble complexes and has higher sorption kinetics compared to the hexavalent state [Langmuir, 1997]. With an increase in measurement capabilities, all three isotopic ratios (relative to 238U) have been shown to naturally vary in some degree due to various factors. The first uranium isotopic that was discovered to have natural variation was 234U/238U, the increased abundance of 234U in seawater (~15%) perhaps being the best example [Chen et al., 1986]. Variations in 234U are a consequence of an increased mobility of 234U relative to other uranium isotopes due to redox interactions. Production of 234U occurs through О± decay of 238U, which subsequently results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhodospirillum Rubrum Research Paper Rhodospirillum rubrum is a gram negative, mesophilic proteobacteria; it has the ability to grow best at moderate temperatures (25 30В®C) and is one of many bacteria responsible for nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen fixation is the chemical processes by which atmospheric nitrogen is assimilated into organic compounds, especially by certain microorganisms as part of the nitrogen cycle (Dictionary.com, 2015). R. rubrum specifically uses nitrogenase to convert atmospheric nitrogen gas to ammonia. It is a spiral shaped (spirilla) bacteriaand is polarly flagellated and therefore motile. R. rubrum like many other purple non sulfur bacteria are found in more natural settings. They are particularly found in pond water, mud or a sewage sample which is perfect for its growth type (Withers, 2000) (Biorealm, 2011). Rhodospirillum rubrum is also a facultative anaerobe which means it has the ability to make ATP by aerobic respiration if oxygen is present, but is capable of switching to alcoholic fermentation or anaerobic respiration if oxygen is absent. By 13 year old Tim Meeker and ten year old... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Something as simple as perspective among Eliphalet and Sam tears the Meeker family apart. In My Brother Sam Is Dead by Collier and Collier talk about how people of all ages fought in the war. Yale students did rush away to get weapons and join the war in 1775. (Collier and Collier 214). Sam was one of those Yale students who went to fight and among him, as explained in the previous quote, were many others. Although Sam thought highly of leaving school to fight Eliphalet Meeker felt otherwise. Eliphalet Meeker says to Sam, Now take off that uniform and go back to your studies. We also see a clash of generations with the adults in Redding who are also against war. Mr. Beach, the Pastor of the Anglican church in Redding, says, God meant man to obey. He meant children to obey their fathers, he meant men to obey their kings. The constant argument between the generations is whether or not the younger generations should even have any input when it came to the war. This constant clash of generations was not only causing issues between Loyalists and Patriots but also causing problems between the generations that comprise each side. In My Brother Sam Is Dead by Collier and Collier the general argument between Eliphalet and Sam has to do with Sam ideals of war and Eliphalet s realities of war. Sam says, It s not the money, it s the principle. (Collier and Collier 21). Sam fights for his principle of freedom and the glory of war. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Release play therapy involves the therapist picking out toys that relate to a child s traumatic experience as a way to help the child to play out a particular situation (Ogawa, 2004). With this process, a child can communicate their feelings and struggles in a safe environment (Ogawa, 2004). In child centered play therapy, communication takes place through the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and child (Ogawa, 2004). As a result, this kind of therapy requires a therapist to be genuine, show unconditional positive acceptance and express empathy (Ogawa, 2004). The belief in this approach is that children have an inborn ability to adjust and grow (Ogawa, 2004). During therapy, children are the ones who decide how to deal with their own experiences and gain control (Ogawa, 2004). The children decide what kind of play they are willing to use for personal expression (Ogawa, 2004). Overall, both these approaches that consist of either a directed or non directed approach are great with working with children who have experienced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Taking a Look at the Philadelphia Phillies The Philadelphia Phillies have been a staple in Major League baseball for over 120 years. The Phillies are one of the League s oldest teams dating back all the way to the year 1883. Over the years the Phillies have acquired many accolades and accomplishments; although the Phillies are a decorated team for many positive reasons they have also become the league s most losing team, with over 10,000 losses. Although the Philadelphia franchise may have the most losses in any professional sport, whether it is football, basketball, or soccer, they have had many playoff runs and even a few World Series appearances. Throughout the winning and the losing seasons the Phillies have had some very good players, which went on to be a Hall of Famers, while many of the players were mediocre at best. Although not all of the players that played in Philadelphia were good, they had heart and drive to not let the rambunctious fans in Philadelphia not get the best of them. Whenever a family goes to one of these baseball games, the game may not be the center of attention for the kids or even the adults with the most entertaining mascot of all the Phillie Phanatic dancing around and being goofy in front of 20,000 people in the stands. The Phillies are a Major League Baseballteam, located in Philadelphia, PA. The Philadelphia Phillies were founded in 1883,originally named the Philadelphia Quakers to replace the team from Worchester, Massachusetts (Rich Westcott, 15). In 1884 there name was ... The Potential of Robotic Surgical Devices Hindered by Inadequate Regulations According to UC Davis Heath System, Debra Johnson, a sixty year old woman diagnosed with endometrial cancer, had to undergo robotic assisted surgery from a Surgical Doctor, Gary Leisoerowiz, from UC Davis Medical Center in 2006 (UC Davis Health System). Debra went though with the surgeryand received positive results including a fast recovery, no severe scars, and cancer free (UC Davis Health System). This includes the increase in dexterity, the restore of proper hand eye coordination, and improvement of visualization (Meyers et al.). In Cameron Scott s article from the Healthline News, Is da Vinci Robotic Surgerya Revolution or a Ripoff?, he states that robotic devices including the da Vinci surgical device succeeds well in urology and the removal of prostate. Prostate removal is extremely difficult for open surgery practice, however the da Vinci made is easier with about 90 percent of these kinds of surgeries are now done robotically (Scott). Some evidence even suggest that with robotics used in prostatectomy, there is less blood loss, faster recovery, and fewer internal scarring according to reports mention in Eastham s article (Eastham et al.). There are many other examples from hospitals and manufactures that support the uses of robotic surgery and its benefits. However, even though these new technologies of robotic devices are supposedly be helping patients and making surgeries less invasive, they are still many concerns of how they should be properly regulated. This all began in the year 2000, when the Food and Drug Administration approved the latest and most popular medical device, the Da Vinci Surgical System manufactured by Intuitive Surgical Inc. Today, over 3,300 systems of da Vinci are used in operating rooms today according to the Mayo Clinic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
