T
he 7th edition of the Ohana Meetup holds a signifi-
cant place in my heart. Once again, it proved to be an
extraordinary experience for several reasons and two
key learnings, in particular, resonated deeply with me.
The importance of creating spaces
Within families, organizations, communities, and individuals,
establishing rhythmic safe spaces where expressing your-
self and sharing your thoughts is paramount. On the basis of
inclusivity and respect, it’s possible to deeply exchange diverse
perspectives and enrich our collective outlook. Implementing
methods and tools that promote active engagement and equi-
table participation enhances the depth of our interactions,
unlocking the full potential of collaborative endeavors and a
sense of belonging.
The power of stories
Stories possess the ability to reshape our beliefs about the world.
When our beliefs undergo transformation, our entire worldview
shifts. Storytelling serves as a common thread in processes of
healing, fostering awareness, and seeking meaning and under-
standing. Through stories, we can break free from entrenched,
stagnant patterns and progress forward. Through stories we
have the capacity to craft narratives of future success and
reframe past experiences with fresh perspectives.
Combining these two insights, I recognize a powerful formula
for instilling life and shining into any being: protect and enable
spaces where it’s possible to share, to listen, to co-create stories!
When we enter any of these spaces we know it immediately,
and the incredible thing is that we can
actively author such moments! We need
not passively await their occurrence. By
fostering creation spaces that nurture
trust, collective intelligence, stigmergy,
and a shared consciousness among people
we can free magic! Isn’t that incredible?
WHAT’S UP
I
n an era where the cult of perpetual busyness is often
hailed as the hallmark of success, there exists an under-
valued beauty in the art of embracing stillness and the
profound learning that comes from simply being.
This wisdom, ancient yet timeless, suggests that in the quie-
tude of not being incessantly occupied, we unearth the space
to truly listen, learn, and cultivate an acute awareness of the
intricate dance of thoughts, emotions, and sensations that
occur within us, and the ever-evolving tapestry of life that
unfolds around us.
This pause from the relentless pursuit of doing allows indi-
viduals and organizations alike to tap into a wellspring of
creativity, empathy, and resilience, fostering an environment
where innovation is born not out of sheer volume of work, but
from the depth of understanding and insight.
Moreover, as we navigate this journey of introspection and
outward observation, we are often confronted with the chal-
lenge of judgment and criticism, particularly towards the unfa-
miliar or misunderstood. This inclination to judge, however
superficially, not only constrains our own growth but also
perpetuates a cycle of division. The act of passing judgment
without seeking to understand undermines the very essence of
wisdom, which is rooted in the openness to explore, to ques-
tion, and to embrace the myriad perspectives that make up
our world. It is through the suspension of judgment and the
embrace of curiosity that we can truly learn and grow, both as
individuals and as collective entities.
This journey, rich in its slowness and deliberation, invites us
to a higher plane of consciousness where
wisdom flourishes, not in the noise and
haste, but in the quiet spaces where we
allow ourselves to simply be and becoming.

T
he heartbeat, breathing and tides are events made by
several moments that are alternated rhythmically, by
passing the baton. The same act of living is simply a
succession of cycles, but why does the phases alterna-
tion change depending on what and how we are looking at it?
It is crystal clear that the seasons alternate during the year. After
the cold arrives milder climates and the leaves fall in order to
allow new life to sprout. Then, why do we not consider and greet
all our life moments in the same way, even those in which not
everything goes as we would like (or imagined) without commit-
ting ourselves to accept them as something completely natural?
Just as there’s no season more important than another, or
anything useless in nature, why shouldn’t we live our life in
harmony with the differences that different phases bring with
them? Each stage prepares and sows the seeds in order to create
the next one, thriving until it reaches the end of its cycle ready to
give way to a new present.
The secret is based on the change of perspective by freeing
ourselves from any kind of judgment. It is realizing that only
intentionally living each moment allows us to truly live. Let’s

and emptiness is not lack of content. Being
inside a void is as amazing as experiencing
the full, and practicing both is an art and a
constant exercise. Doing it can help us to
love the stages alternation and to smile at
the beauty that relies on difference.
C
an you remember for a moment about the last time
you were captivated by something truly beautiful?
Was it captured by your brain or your heart? Was it
about seeing or feeling? Did it make you cry or smile?
Did it make you mad? Did it give you goosebumps?
If we consider beauty as a subjective and dynamic event that
occurs between you and something else, then it can happen
at any time, depending on the context and the way you look
at it. What one person finds beautiful, another may not share
the same sentiment. Yet, therein lies the magic of it all – the
ability for each of us to discover and appreciate beauty in our
own unique way.
And what if that something else was work? Can work be beau-
tiful? Perhaps it’s the irregular patterns of a piece of pottery
that tell the story of that clay and the hands that touched it,
the melodic harmony of a musical composition, organiza-
tions reshaping themselves to cope with a better planet… What
makes a work beautiful? Is it the precision of its execution, the
passion behind its creation, the journey to bring it to life or the
impact it has on those who encounter it?
In the midst of a world full of information, what if we pause
more often to talk, to reflect together, to make space for what
can be born from a collective that inhabits
the spaces it exists in, the work it organ-
izes, the people who go through it? Why
and what are we working for?

The importance of relationships is a theme
close to my heart, and one that I have experi-
enced firsthand in my experience as an
entrepreneur and manager with +25 years of
experience and now as CEO and co-founder of
Fattor Comune Benefit Society.
Everything always stems from a simple
handshake, an exchange of glances, the sharing
of ideas and passions. Sometimes casual
encounters trigger connections that generate
fruitful collaborations and valuable projects.
Let’s think of Stelio, whom we met virtually
and then met in person, with whom we
immediately hit it off and started a partnership
that led to the collaboration for the realization
of the Ohana Meet Up 2024. Or Donatella, a
journalist we met in Milan, who triggered
a meeting with Stelio thanks to a comment
on one of my LinkedIn posts, creating a real
domino effect of positive relationships.
And again, Emil, whom I met in Rimini six
years ago, who inspired me with his speech
on the topic of startups and innovation and
whom, thanks to Stelio, I found again and with
whom we are now planning the Beautiful Work
Week for fall 2024.
These are just a few examples of how relation-
ships can generate positive impact. By pooling
different resources, skills, passions, and
visions, we create the basis of a collective
intelligence capable of accomplishing extraor-
dinary things, and in my opinion, this needs to
be taken care of with special attention.
In an ever-changing world, uncertainty is the
only certainty. But it is precisely this uncer-
tainty that has pushed us to see things from
new perspectives and find new ways to achieve
common goals.
We are experiencing a real cultural revolution,
whichisnotjustabouttheuseoftechnology,but
about the way we think and do things. Bringing
diversity together is a complex challenge, but
the results more than repay the effort.
Commitment is key, both to partners and to
ourselves. Promising to do one’s best and
overcome one’s limitations is the key to
discovering new capabilities and achieving
new goals.
Doing this together with other people is even
better. Not by chance, collaboration and
sharing are the principles on which the Fattor
Comune model is based.
We strive to create value for our world and the
relationships in it, with the goal of making it
better. By pooling, we create opportunities
for everyone in a world that is increasingly
uncertain but that we can address with the
right mindset.
Evolving world of work
The evolution of the world of work is a topical
issue. The future of work will be increasingly
geared toward collaboration, sharing and
co-creation. In this context, relationships take
on an even more important role, becoming the

How can ecosystems of organizations catalyze collective positive impact
on business towards a better society?
In the last few decades it’s become clearer that our civilization is fac-
ing a huge system of complex challenges, what some have called a me-
ta-crisis. They are putting at risk our survival as a species and, in the
meantime, increasingly wreaking havoc on the life conditions of billions
of people and on the whole biosphere. None of these challenges can be
solved on their own. They are deeply interconnected and they are rooted
in how our species is choosing to relate to life itself. Yet, they can possi-
bly be overcome all at once by evolving this very relationship.
Groups of people have been autonomously organizing the world over,
giving their contribution to this evolution. A culture of regeneration has
been rising everywhere in a multitude of forms. Permaculture, bio-re-
gions, regenerative finance, collaborative governance, solarpunk, for
example, are just a few of the names these efforts have taken. Awareness
and motivation have sprouted. The technological tools exist. It’s about
time to allow all of it to coalesce, to come together and give birth to the
first examples of a better way.
Within this context WEIRD, the World Evolution Institute for Regener-
ation and Development, was born. An emergent playground in which
caring people can embody a better type of society together. A living
ecosystem of people, principles, values (assets), and organizations, with
simple and bold rules of engagement based on the full awareness of our
deep interdependence and on embracing diversity and reciprocity as the
precious seeds of regenerative emergence. It is meant to support new
generations to thrive in stewarding all life on Earth.
In practice, it’s a space of belonging for different organizations and
communities to come together around streams of work through an
open-governance system that allows shared sense-making, direction
and resources allocation, and an economy of non-scarce value to be fos-
tered among people and enabled by the latest tech.
In 2012, LiquidO –the open governance framework– was being designed,
and since then we’ve been learning and improving, along with the eco-
system, better ways of organizing. In the past year, we held 4 polycentric
meetings with different people and organizations around the world to
design WEIRD. Now, 2024 begins with the first governance team formed.
It has begun!

OHANA MEETUP
Living in a time marked by great upheaval
and volatility, we need a new approach to help
leaders navigate a world where organizations
flourish, ecosystems thrive, and people feel
alive. This is what Regenerative Leadership is
all about.
The book integrates existing theories —
complexity theory, cybernetics, develop-
mental psychology, systems theory, holistic
science, and indigenous wisdom — into a
practical and profound framework. Organi-
zations are seen as dynamic, life-affirming
living systems, and in this space leaders
become ecosystem facilitators, nurturing the
conditions for this evolution according to the
unique needs of their context.
Overall, it’s a rich roadmap for those who
aim to lead their organizations into a more
adaptive, interconnected, and regenerative
future.

FRESH STORIES FROM MOZAIC
What would the world of work look like if it
were more beautiful?
In our everyday work, the different things
we do create a story of what we are passion-
ate about and what we aim for. What happens
when people that are driven by the same pas-
sion for a better world of work and determined
to use their creative genius to make it happen
everyday, no matter what, finally get togeth-
er? It could be a revolution, and it would defi-
nitely be fun!
For this reason we created the Ohana Meetup,
six years ago. A Work Revolution Party for all
the people caring about, and working for, a
better world of work. A place to truly get together, play with our ideas and hopes, perceive the inter-
dependence between all of us, all while we deeply enjoy our time together. When the Ohana meets
up, it can be a blast.
And so it was, once again, in Rimini this year, when 40 people from 4 continents met for a 7th edi-
tion rich in diversity, experiences and points of view. The energy is already informing new collabo-
rations and paving the way for the next Ohana Meetup. Don’t miss it!

2011. Her customers are organizations longing for deep shifts in
how people and technologies, together, can raise unprecedented
performance.
It’s been designed to be effective, open and adaptive for culti-
vating evolutionary mastery. First in Europe in devising
a completely emergent organizational setup, and known globally
as a “small giant” generating exponential value, Cocoon Pro is
directly involved in the edge of international efforts evolving
work itself.
We foster the birth of a world of work based on interbeing
awareness and generative practices. And we know that this
quest enables unparalleled levels of relevance, resilience and
resonance for our Customers. We’re able to design and co-ex-
ecute tailored evolutionary paths for any organization on the
many interdependent scopes of this scenario.
Our goal is to make this change really happen.
We work iteratively. Establishing a rhythmic heartbeat of small
interventions for a deep and concrete evolution. Our commitment
is to leave you better at every iteration, while we navigate towards
your full potential. Our own way of doing so is called Evolution
Flow, and it is the result of more than 10 years of experiences
working with very different organizations all around the world,
deep study across many decades of work and methodologies by
outstanding giants, and — not least — a decade of collaborations
with experienced professionals in the domains of org develop-
ment, change, strategy, org design, psychology, team work, and
much more.
The Evolution Flow is the art, science and craft of answering one
simple and key question:
As simple as the question is, finding good answers requires a
profound respect for the identity, context and trajectory of each
organization. It demands attention to the whole depth of the
human system and, most importantly, to the intimate relation-
ships between its technical and social layers.
The Evolution Flow integrates in a coherent framework entire
systems of thought like Socio-Technical Systems Theory, Lean
Thinking, Complex Adaptive Systems theory, and it is based on
a few original conceptual frameworks of what a human work-
system is and how it evolves towards its full potential.
Applying it is an iterative journey based on the careful repetition
of three steps. First, disturbing the work system, introducing
something that calls for an adaptation. Second, discovering how
the system digests it, in the whole of its depth. Third, directing
the energy that this variation generates towards the desired
evolution, also building momentum for the next iteration.
We carefully introduce new habits as disturbances, able to nurture
three types of evolution in harmony with each other: operational,
behavioral, and psychological evolution. And we do it through the
design and execution of group or large-group workshops, oper-
ational coaching, work-system design sessions, methodological
and foundational inceptions, internal events, work-streams and
communities seeding and evolution.

We work with about 40 different tools, and commit
to continuous mastery development on each.
All the tools we use are devised to engage the
wholeness of the person, rational and emotional.
Whatever the mix of tools we design for, our
utmost attention is on the flow experience of the
participants, be it live or remotely.
Over many years, we have seen all kinds of people
having fun while achieving their greatest results.
In Cocoon Pro we practice first-hand and continuously
evolve today’s most relevant work principles and tech-
niques. These ongoing flows of learning, together with
intense and continuous field operations at the side of
national and international Customers, highlight Cocoon
Pro as the ideal partner for true strategic and operational
evolution.
We have designed our whole service framework to provide
you with sound results in boosting three vital and
interdependent characteristics of your organization:
relevance, resilience and resonance.
RELEVANCE
How to have a bearing on your stakeholders’ lives in
a rapidly changing world? Surviving as an organiza-
tion implies keeping your relevance. Growing it, means
attracting increasing streams of resources from all of your
stakeholders and, ultimately, thriving.
RESILIENCE
The rate of change is bursting. Your work scenario evolves
quickly, and it impacts both your decision making and
operational priority management. Resilience is, at least,
the ability to adjust to the stress of these changes. At best,
it is feeding on it and becoming stronger and better.
RESONANCE
In a context of increasing complexity, the good news is
that exponential dynamics are readily at hand. Instead of
focusing on warfare-like strategies based on conquering
and protecting, you can now tap into ecosystemic opportu-
nities able to amplify your energies by orders of magnitude.
WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU
In the evolution of your organization across the three
scopes of relevance, resilience and resonance, we
provide specific services in these nine different areas

What is LiquidO™
You might have heard of a new breed of organisational models,
responding to the fast growing adaptability, engagement and collab-
oration needs within modern company structures. Or you might
have simply experienced the sound problems of slowness, rigidity,
bureaucracy, disengagement along with various kinds of waste and
bottlenecks that “traditional” organisational models generate and
suffer nowadays.
This is what LiquidOTM
is all about: the original “liquid organisation”
model for governance, born from direct experience within Cocoon Pro
and in use in a growing number of for profit and not-for-profit organi-
sations willing to get liquid.
Liquefying an organization means disrupting the industrial-age
driven assumptions on which rigid structures are designed and move
on to make it adaptive, dynamic and anti-fragile. Based on lean
management and open collaboration principles, the LiquidOTM
model
is fluid, meritocratic and value-driven, enabling stigmergic
behaviour and “organic” effectiveness.
Rigidly structured organiza-
tions cannot cope with the
current pace of innovation
and its complexity, let
alone exploit it. We need
a completely different
mindset and consequently
new models. And we need
them to be simple and
people-centric.
This is exactly why LiquidO™
was born.
1. Real-time adaptability.
The industrial age organisational
approach, where each area is defined
as a restricted group of activities
coherent to one another, has its biggest
limitations in the risk to fall in fragmented,
sealed administration and culture. As the company
grows, so grows the complex ramification, branching and costs of
these models. Lack of communication, heavy bureaucracy, disastrous
efficiency.
The completely different perspective realized by LiquidO™
, in fact
relying on people and competences without fixed roles, provides an
integrated and adaptive business management scenario shifted to a
systemic approach, pragmatically meritocratic and inherently capable
of real time adaptability to any context. It’s just like water, some would
say.
2. Better and faster information processing.
Hierarchies are a sound bottleneck both for decision making and
competences evolution. Too many info to process in order to succeed.
Moreover, on the other hand, the distance between where and how in
the organization strategies are created, and where and how they have
to be executed too often creates waste, lack of effectiveness or even
complete failure.
Non-peer evaluation, silos and recruiting inefficiency are additional
heavy side-defects of an organizational design philosophy based on
the two illusions of control and predictability, and therefore actualized
with structural divisions between thinking and doing.
LiquidO™ is a viable and operational way to let all the brilliant people
in the company effectively emerge. Anybody can join each wave,
surf it and enrich it, so to say. And leveraging different viewpoints,
backgrounds and competences today is definitely critical to succeed in
taking better and faster decisions.
3. Engagement and spontaneous leadership.
People are key in this picture. In fact, within
LiquidO™ everyone can decide whether to join
a process or not, try, and consequently
determine her level by fast feedback
loops from frequent and specific
peer-reviews driven by the actual
delivered value.
Besides a natural engagement
due to continuous feedback
and consequently improving
results, within this scenario
it’s really difficult to deny
emerging problems. Within
the old way of thinking the
organizations very often
conflicts, work overload,
sense of impotence, lack of
decision power, absence of
endorsement, unfair treatment
and misalignments are among the
real causes of failures.
There is much more that can be done
today, if only we let go of control, predict-
ability and rigidity. LiquidO™ moves structures,
processes and the organization itself away from the
center, where it is assumed that people have to adapt to them, instead
shifting the focus on people and truly empowering them to dynami-
cally find their maximum value creation spot within the organization,
expressing leadership effectively and without fear, naturally growing
and being rewarded for this.

  • 2. 2 T he 7th edition of the Ohana Meetup holds a signifi- cant place in my heart. Once again, it proved to be an extraordinary experience for several reasons and two key learnings, in particular, resonated deeply with me. The importance of creating spaces Within families, organizations, communities, and individuals, establishing rhythmic safe spaces where expressing your- self and sharing your thoughts is paramount. On the basis of inclusivity and respect, it’s possible to deeply exchange diverse perspectives and enrich our collective outlook. Implementing methods and tools that promote active engagement and equi- table participation enhances the depth of our interactions, unlocking the full potential of collaborative endeavors and a sense of belonging. The power of stories Stories possess the ability to reshape our beliefs about the world. When our beliefs undergo transformation, our entire worldview shifts. Storytelling serves as a common thread in processes of healing, fostering awareness, and seeking meaning and under- standing. Through stories, we can break free from entrenched, stagnant patterns and progress forward. Through stories we have the capacity to craft narratives of future success and reframe past experiences with fresh perspectives. Combining these two insights, I recognize a powerful formula for instilling life and shining into any being: protect and enable spaces where it’s possible to share, to listen, to co-create stories! When we enter any of these spaces we know it immediately, and the incredible thing is that we can actively author such moments! We need not passively await their occurrence. By fostering creation spaces that nurture trust, collective intelligence, stigmergy, and a shared consciousness among people we can free magic! Isn’t that incredible? WHAT’S UP I n an era where the cult of perpetual busyness is often hailed as the hallmark of success, there exists an under- valued beauty in the art of embracing stillness and the profound learning that comes from simply being. This wisdom, ancient yet timeless, suggests that in the quie- tude of not being incessantly occupied, we unearth the space to truly listen, learn, and cultivate an acute awareness of the intricate dance of thoughts, emotions, and sensations that occur within us, and the ever-evolving tapestry of life that unfolds around us. This pause from the relentless pursuit of doing allows indi- viduals and organizations alike to tap into a wellspring of creativity, empathy, and resilience, fostering an environment where innovation is born not out of sheer volume of work, but from the depth of understanding and insight. Moreover, as we navigate this journey of introspection and outward observation, we are often confronted with the chal- lenge of judgment and criticism, particularly towards the unfa- miliar or misunderstood. This inclination to judge, however superficially, not only constrains our own growth but also perpetuates a cycle of division. The act of passing judgment without seeking to understand undermines the very essence of wisdom, which is rooted in the openness to explore, to ques- tion, and to embrace the myriad perspectives that make up our world. It is through the suspension of judgment and the embrace of curiosity that we can truly learn and grow, both as individuals and as collective entities. This journey, rich in its slowness and deliberation, invites us to a higher plane of consciousness where wisdom flourishes, not in the noise and haste, but in the quiet spaces where we allow ourselves to simply be and becoming. The same act of living is simply a succession of cycles, but why does the phases alterna- tion change depending on what and how we are looking at it? It is crystal clear that the seasons alternate during the year. After the cold arrives milder climates and the leaves fall in order to allow new life to sprout. Then, why do we not consider and greet all our life moments in the same way, even those in which not everything goes as we would like (or imagined) without commit- ting ourselves to accept them as something completely natural? Just as there’s no season more important than another, or anything useless in nature, why shouldn’t we live our life in harmony with the differences that different phases bring with them? Each stage prepares and sows the seeds in order to create the next one, thriving until it reaches the end of its cycle ready to give way to a new present. The secret is based on the change of perspective by freeing ourselves from any kind of judgment. It is realizing that only intentionally living each moment allows us to truly live. Let’s stopgivingattentiontowhatwearemissing, bystartingenjoying everysinglemomentbecausedarknessisnottheabsenceoflight, and emptiness is not lack of content. Being inside a void is as amazing as experiencing the full, and practicing both is an art and a constant exercise. Doing it can help us to love the stages alternation and to smile at the beauty that relies on difference. C an you remember for a moment about the last time you were captivated by something truly beautiful? Was it captured by your brain or your heart? Was it about seeing or feeling? Did it make you cry or smile? Did it make you mad? Did it give you goosebumps? If we consider beauty as a subjective and dynamic event that occurs between you and something else, then it can happen at any time, depending on the context and the way you look at it. What one person finds beautiful, another may not share the same sentiment. Yet, therein lies the magic of it all – the ability for each of us to discover and appreciate beauty in our own unique way. And what if that something else was work? Can work be beau- tiful? Perhaps it’s the irregular patterns of a piece of pottery that tell the story of that clay and the hands that touched it, the melodic harmony of a musical composition, organiza- tions reshaping themselves to cope with a better planet… What makes a work beautiful? Is it the precision of its execution, the passion behind its creation, the journey to bring it to life or the impact it has on those who encounter it? In the midst of a world full of information, what if we pause more often to talk, to reflect together, to make space for what can be born from a collective that inhabits the spaces it exists in, the work it organ- izes, the people who go through it? Why and what are we working for? ALESSANDRA CIANCHETTINI ISABELA CARIA Cocooners - n° 15 - March 2024
  • 4. The importance of relationships is a theme close to my heart, and one that I have experi- enced firsthand in my experience as an entrepreneur and manager with +25 years of experience and now as CEO and co-founder of Fattor Comune Benefit Society. Everything always stems from a simple handshake, an exchange of glances, the sharing of ideas and passions. Sometimes casual encounters trigger connections that generate fruitful collaborations and valuable projects. Let’s think of Stelio, whom we met virtually and then met in person, with whom we immediately hit it off and started a partnership that led to the collaboration for the realization of the Ohana Meet Up 2024. Or Donatella, a journalist we met in Milan, who triggered a meeting with Stelio thanks to a comment on one of my LinkedIn posts, creating a real domino effect of positive relationships. And again, Emil, whom I met in Rimini six years ago, who inspired me with his speech on the topic of startups and innovation and whom, thanks to Stelio, I found again and with whom we are now planning the Beautiful Work Week for fall 2024. These are just a few examples of how relation- ships can generate positive impact. By pooling different resources, skills, passions, and visions, we create the basis of a collective intelligence capable of accomplishing extraor- dinary things, and in my opinion, this needs to be taken care of with special attention. In an ever-changing world, uncertainty is the only certainty. But it is precisely this uncer- tainty that has pushed us to see things from new perspectives and find new ways to achieve common goals. We are experiencing a real cultural revolution, whichisnotjustabouttheuseoftechnology, but about the way we think and do things. Bringing diversity together is a complex challenge, but the results more than repay the effort. Commitment is key, both to partners and to ourselves. Promising to do one’s best and overcome one’s limitations is the key to discovering new capabilities and achieving new goals. Doing this together with other people is even better. Not by chance, collaboration and sharing are the principles on which the Fattor Comune model is based. We strive to create value for our world and the relationships in it, with the goal of making it better. By pooling, we create opportunities for everyone in a world that is increasingly uncertain but that we can address with the right mindset. Evolving world of work The evolution of the world of work is a topical issue. The future of work will be increasingly geared toward collaboration, sharing and co-creation. Watch the video How can ecosystems of organizations catalyze collective positive impact on business towards a better society? In the last few decades it’s become clearer that our civilization is fac- ing a huge system of complex challenges, what some have called a me- ta-crisis. They are putting at risk our survival as a species and, in the meantime, increasingly wreaking havoc on the life conditions of billions of people and on the whole biosphere. None of these challenges can be solved on their own. They are deeply interconnected and they are rooted in how our species is choosing to relate to life itself. Yet, they can possi- bly be overcome all at once by evolving this very relationship. Groups of people have been autonomously organizing the world over, giving their contribution to this evolution. A culture of regeneration has been rising everywhere in a multitude of forms. Permaculture, bio-re- gions, regenerative finance, collaborative governance, solarpunk, for example, are just a few of the names these efforts have taken. Awareness and motivation have sprouted. The technological tools exist. It’s about time to allow all of it to coalesce, to come together and give birth to the first examples of a better way. Within this context WEIRD, the World Evolution Institute for Regener- ation and Development, was born. An emergent playground in which caring people can embody a better type of society together. A living ecosystem of people, principles, values (assets), and organizations, with simple and bold rules of engagement based on the full awareness of our deep interdependence and on embracing diversity and reciprocity as the precious seeds of regenerative emergence. It is meant to support new generations to thrive in stewarding all life on Earth. In practice, it’s a space of belonging for different organizations and communities to come together around streams of work through an open-governance system that allows shared sense-making, direction and resources allocation, and an economy of non-scarce value to be fos- tered among people and enabled by the latest tech. In 2012, LiquidO –the open governance framework– was being designed, and since then we’ve been learning and improving, along with the eco- system, better ways of organizing. In the past year, we held 4 polycentric meetings with different people and organizations around the world to design WEIRD. Now, 2024 begins with the first governance team formed. It has begun! Read on Mozaic Isabela Caria OHANA MEETUP Living in a time marked by great upheaval and volatility, we need a new approach to help leaders navigate a world where organizations flourish, ecosystems thrive, and people feel alive. This is what Regenerative Leadership is all about. The book integrates existing theories — complexity theory, cybernetics, develop- mental psychology, systems theory, holistic science, and indigenous wisdom — into a practical and profound framework. Organi- zations are seen as dynamic, life-affirming living systems, and in this space leaders become ecosystem facilitators, nurturing the conditions for this evolution according to the unique needs of their context. Overall, it’s a rich roadmap for those who aim to lead their organizations into a more adaptive, interconnected, and regenerative future. • 14. A WORD ABOUT US Cocoon Pro is a last-generation company devoted to enabling a healthy evolution of the very concept of work, worldwide since 2011. Her customers are organizations longing for deep shifts in how people and technologies, together, can raise unprecedented performance. It’s been designed to be effective, open and adaptive for culti- vating evolutionary mastery. First in Europe in devising a completely emergent organizational setup, and known globally as a “small giant” generating exponential value, Cocoon Pro is directly involved in the edge of international efforts evolving work itself. We foster the birth of a world of work based on interbeing awareness and generative practices. And we know that this quest enables unparalleled levels of relevance, resilience and resonance for our Customers. We’re able to design and co-ex- ecute tailored evolutionary paths for any organization on the many interdependent scopes of this scenario. Our goal is to make this change really happen. We work iteratively. Establishing a rhythmic heartbeat of small interventions for a deep and concrete evolution. Our commitment is to leave you better at every iteration, while we navigate towards your full potential. Our own way of doing so is called Evolution Flow, and it is the result of more than 10 years of experiences working with very different organizations all around the world, deep study across many decades of work and methodologies by outstanding giants, and — not least — a decade of collaborations with experienced professionals in the domains of org develop- ment, change, strategy, org design, psychology, team work, and much more. The Evolution Flow is the art, science and craft of answering one simple and key question: As simple as the question is, finding good answers requires a profound respect for the identity, context and trajectory of each organization. It demands attention to the whole depth of the human system and, most importantly, to the intimate relation- ships between its technical and social layers. The Evolution Flow integrates in a coherent framework entire systems of thought like Socio-Technical Systems Theory, Lean Thinking, Complex Adaptive Systems theory, and it is based on a few original conceptual frameworks of what a human work- system is and how it evolves towards its full potential. Applying it is an iterative journey based on the careful repetition of three steps. First, disturbing the work system, introducing something that calls for an adaptation. Second, discovering how the system digests it, in the whole of its depth. Third, directing the energy that this variation generates towards the desired evolution, also building momentum for the next iteration. We carefully introduce new habits as disturbances, able to nurture three types of evolution in harmony with each other: operational, behavioral, and psychological evolution. And we do it through the design and execution of group or large-group workshops, oper- ational coaching, work-system design sessions, methodological and foundational inceptions, internal events, work-streams and communities seeding and evolution. Whatever the mix of tools we design for, our utmost attention is on the flow experience of the participants, be it live or remotely. Over many years, we have seen all kinds of people having fun while achieving their greatest results. In Cocoon Pro we practice first-hand and continuously evolve today’s most relevant work principles and tech- niques. These ongoing flows of learning, together with intense and continuous field operations at the side of national and international Customers, highlight Cocoon Pro as the ideal partner for true strategic and operational evolution. We have designed our whole service framework to provide you with sound results in boosting three vital and interdependent characteristics of your organization: relevance, resilience and resonance. RELEVANCE How to have a bearing on your stakeholders’ lives in a rapidly changing world? Surviving as an organiza- tion implies keeping your relevance. Growing it, means attracting increasing streams of resources from all of your stakeholders and, ultimately, thriving. RESILIENCE The rate of change is bursting. Your work scenario evolves quickly, and it impacts both your decision making and operational priority management. Resilience is, at least, the ability to adjust to the stress of these changes. At best, it is feeding on it and becoming stronger and better. RESONANCE In a context of increasing complexity, the good news is that exponential dynamics are readily at hand. Instead of focusing on warfare-like strategies based on conquering and protecting, you can now tap into ecosystemic opportu- nities able to amplify your energies by orders of magnitude. • 16. What is LiquidO™ You might have heard of a new breed of organisational models, responding to the fast growing adaptability, engagement and collab- oration needs within modern company structures. Or you might have simply experienced the sound problems of slowness, rigidity, bureaucracy, disengagement along with various kinds of waste and bottlenecks that “traditional” organisational models generate and suffer nowadays. This is what LiquidOTM is all about: the original “liquid organisation” model for governance, born from direct experience within Cocoon Pro and in use in a growing number of for profit and not-for-profit organi- sations willing to get liquid. Liquefying an organization means disrupting the industrial-age driven assumptions on which rigid structures are designed and move on to make it adaptive, dynamic and anti-fragile. Based on lean management and open collaboration principles, the LiquidOTM model is fluid, meritocratic and value-driven, enabling stigmergic behaviour and “organic” effectiveness. Rigidly structured organiza- tions cannot cope with the current pace of innovation and its complexity, let alone exploit it. We need a completely different mindset and consequently new models. And we need them to be simple and people-centric. This is exactly why LiquidO™ was born. 1. Real-time adaptability. The industrial age organisational approach, where each area is defined as a restricted group of activities coherent to one another, has its biggest limitations in the risk to fall in fragmented, sealed administration and culture. As the company grows, so grows the complex ramification, branching and costs of these models. Lack of communication, heavy bureaucracy, disastrous efficiency. The completely different perspective realized by LiquidO™ , in fact relying on people and competences without fixed roles, provides an integrated and adaptive business management scenario shifted to a systemic approach, pragmatically meritocratic and inherently capable of real time adaptability to any context. It’s just like water, some would say. 2. Better and faster information processing. Hierarchies are a sound bottleneck both for decision making and competences evolution. Too many info to process in order to succeed. Moreover, on the other hand, the distance between where and how in the organization strategies are created, and where and how they have to be executed too often creates waste, lack of effectiveness or even complete failure. Non-peer evaluation, silos and recruiting inefficiency are additional heavy side-defects of an organizational design philosophy based on the two illusions of control and predictability, and therefore actualized with structural divisions between thinking and doing. LiquidO™ is a viable and operational way to let all the brilliant people in the company effectively emerge. Anybody can join each wave, surf it and enrich it, so to say. And leveraging different viewpoints, backgrounds and competences today is definitely critical to succeed in taking better and faster decisions. 3. Engagement and spontaneous leadership. People are key in this picture. In fact, within LiquidO™ everyone can decide whether to join a process or not, try, and consequently determine her level by fast feedback loops from frequent and specific peer-reviews driven by the actual delivered value. Besides a natural engagement due to continuous feedback and consequently improving results, within this scenario it’s really difficult to deny emerging problems. Within the old way of thinking the organizations very often conflicts, work overload, sense of impotence, lack of decision power, absence of endorsement, unfair treatment and misalignments are among the real causes of failures. There is much more that can be done today, if only we let go of control, predict- ability and rigidity. LiquidO™ moves structures, processes and the organization itself away from the center, where it is assumed that people have to adapt to them, instead shifting the focus on people and truly empowering them to dynami- cally find their maximum value creation spot within the organization, expressing leadership effectively and without fear, naturally growing and being rewarded for this.
