Plot
PLOT OF INTO THE WILD (FILM) The film is presented in a nonlinear narrative, jumping back
and forth between McCandless s time spent in Alaskan wilderness and his two year travels
leading up to his journey to Alaska. The plot summary here is told in a more chronological
order. In May 1992, Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) arrives in a remote area just north
of the Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska and sets up a campsite in an abandoned bus.
At first, McCandless is content with the isolation, the beauty of nature around him, and the thrill
of living off the land. He hunts wild animals with a .22 caliber rifle, reads books, and keeps a diary
of his thoughts as he prepares for himself a new life in the wild. Two years... Show more content on

McCandless then travels to the Colorado River and, though told by park rangers that he may not
kayak down the river without a license, ignores their warnings and paddles downriver until he
eventually arrives in Mexico. There, his kayak is lost in a dust storm and he crosses back into
the United States on foot. Unable to hitchhike, he starts traveling on freight trains to Los
Angeles, California. Not long after arriving, however, he starts feeling corrupted by modern
civilization and decides to leave. Later, McCandless is forced to switch his traveling method
back to hitchhiking after he is beaten by the railroad police. In December 1991, McCandless
arrives at Slab City in the Imperial Valley region of California, and encounters Jan and Rainey
again. There, he meets Tracy Tatro (Kristen Stewart), a teenage girl who shows interest in
McCandless, but he rejects her because she is underage. After the holidays, McCandless decides
to continue heading for Alaska, much to everyone s sadness. While camping near Salton City,
California, McCandless encounters Ron Franz (Hal Holbrook), a retired man who recounts the
story of the loss of his family in a car accident while he was serving in the United States Army. He
now occupies his time in a workshop as an amateur leather worker. Franz teaches McCandless the
craft of leatherwork, resulting in the making of a belt that details McCandless travels. After
spending several months with Franz,

Customer Satisfaction Literature Review

1.LITERATURE REVIEW
This literature review explores the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty
and how do these theories affect businesses in hospitality industry. Hence, there are many
researchers that have studied about these two concepts that will help people to better understand
about the two theories.
Why does customer satisfaction is very important in business? This is because all businesses need
customers and if the customer is satisfied with the item he or she bought, it will help to increase
the market of the business itself. As that particular customer will help to try and promote the
products to their relatives or friends. Customer satisfaction basically is the key objective in service
operations representing an affective self evaluation based on price and quality trades off (Roest and
Pieters,1997). There are few definitions about customer satisfaction according to different
researchers. According to Rust and Olivier (1994), customer satisfaction can be ... Show more

Study indicates that satisfaction basically consists of cognitive and affective variables. Cognitive
measures include disconfirmation and expectations (Oliver,1980), also perceived performance
(Tse and Wilton, 1998). Other measures include equity and performance (Oliver and
DeSarbo,1988), fairness (Oliver and Swan,1989), expectancy disconfirmation (Oliver and Burke,
1999), need fulfilment (Oliver, 1995), and price acceptance or desire to pay (Huber et al., 2000).
This measurement can lead to the discovery of affective variables by trying to improve
satisfaction. There are two affective variables that Westbrook (1987) found. One is positive affect
the other is negative affect. He stated that both positive and negative affect are linked to post
purchased word of mouth. Thus, this makes that there s a relationship between quality and customer

Cultural Differences Between Food And Food
In today s society of the United States, eating has become a staple activity among family and
friends get togethers, holidays and sports activities. Food continues to prove itself to be a big
part of one s religious identity . Throughout other areas of the world, people are eating a variety of
different foods as a way of survival. In America, we would never think of eating these various types
of foods as a means of survival. Foodhas become a key to survival as people rely financially on the
resale of foods, as well as nutritionally to fuel one s body, and socially to entertain themselves,
families and friends. Food proves itself to be a social distinction between the rich and the poor
and their families around the world as they share a common similarity for their love of food. The
various pictures in this assignment depict many cultural differences as well as diversities related to
their food choices. The contrasts between the diets and cost of food for The Aboubaker, Ahmed,
and Revis families are quite striking when one spends the time to analyze the photos.
The first family in the assignment is the Aboubaker family. The picture shows the family is living
in the Darfur province, of Sudan. The Aboubaker family is seen living in a refugee camp located
in the desert sands. The climate in the region varies with extreme hot and dry spouts, while rainfall
only comes during the wet season, which is only a short period of time. In the picture we can see
that the family

Main Characters In The Red Tent By Anita Diamant
An act or mistake made one can cause great distress and hardships in the lives of those around
them. The novel The Red Tent by Anita Diamant follows the life of a young girl into woman
hood as well as her mother s and aunt s. The main character, Dinah, is affected by the acts of two
of her brothers. Dinah s brothers murder Dinah s husband, and first love, as well as his family. The
aftermath of her brothers heinous crimes are affect Dinah and her future.
Dinah was the only girl born by Jacob and his four wives. Her mother Leah, Jacob s first wife,
raised her with the aid of her three sister, all who shared the same husband as Leah. After having
grown up as second youngest alongside her 12 brothers Dinah reached womanhood with
elegance and grace due to the teachings of the women around her. She was taught from a young
age the work of a midwife through her mother auntie Rachel and Inna, a close family friend.
Rachel and Inna worked together as midwives and delivered many children for any women that
sought their help. However, as time grew on Inna grew older it was hard for her to travel and
assist in births. To make up for Inna s absence Rachel took Dinah ton as her apprentice. One
particular job called Dinah and her aunt to the city of Shechem to deliver the son of the king s

The Effects of Grazing and Trampling Behaviors of Large Sized Livestock on the Formation and
Weathering Patterns of Soils
Introduction
Walter Coppinger, a Professor of Geosciences at Trinity College in San Antonio and long time
observer of Montana geology, was the first person to describe to me the many problems of the
western rangelands that have developed out of the over grazing of cattle. From a hilltop among
the upland slopes of Whitehall, Montana, he pointed out a few patches of bare earth on the horizon
and some gullying out of trails across the rangelands in the distance. Rangelands are areas of land
on which livestock are left to roam and graze. Traditionally the great plains and rolling hills of the
Western States have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different animal species that graze the rangelands of the world: bison in the
grasslands of the Western United States, mountain goats in the Rocky Mountains, and herds of
Caribou in Northwest Canada (Butler, 1995). In many cases, the actual effects that different
animals have depends greatly on biological factors characteristic of their particular species, such as
how large their populations tend to be, their average weight and how they distribute their weight
when they walk or climb, feeding patterns, migration patterns, and other differences that depart
too far from the focus of this essay to be considered in any great detail. For the purposes of this
paper, unless otherwise specified, I will be considering the effects of cows, bison, and other cattle
like livestock animals that tend to have relatively similar physical characteristics.
The degree to which an area has been grazed is often loosely categorized as an area of light,
moderate, or heavy grazing, with light indicating rangelands with the greatest surface area and
fewest animals and heavy indicating smaller areas for larger populations. Again, these general terms
may depend on the particular species being considered.
Trampling and grazing on one topography type will not necessarily have the same effect as it will
have on another. Most rangelands are found on uplands (lower, flatter land is more often

Osmotic Thirst And Dehydrates
Osmotic thirst, results from dehydration of cells. Osmoreceptors in the brain detects changes in
cellular hydration, and increase their firing when dehydration is sensed. Dehydration of cells means
high solute concentration outside cells, which causes loss of water from salt. Eating salty foods
triggers osmotic thirst; also certain neurons can detect their own loss of water and then trigger
osmotic thirst, which helps restore the normal state. Sodium ions spread throughout the bloodand
extracellular fluid but do not cross the membranes into cells. Any deviation activated mechanisms
that restore the concentration of solutes to the set point (Kalat 305).
The brain detects osmotic thirst by receiving parts of the information from the receptors

The Film Analysis Of Dunkirk By Christopher Nolan
The movie Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan captures the action and intensity of a war zone in a
sandy beach in northern France. The criteria for any movie to exceed expectations would be to
have a strong story arc, character development, music, suspense, special effects, authenticity to
history, and realistic setting. Dunkirk meets all the criteria for a movie that s why it passed the
$500 million mark this past weekend. For a historical movie, Dunkirk, exceeds the criteria for a
successful movie because of it s focus on character development, being historically accurate, and
being suspenseful. Dunkirk is commune in northern France and during World War II it was the
location of the movie and the battle. The area was surrounded by Nazi s and... Show more content

The fighter pilots risk their lives throughout the movie to protect their fellow soldiers before
running out of fuel. The three citizens risking their lives step up because they feel like it s their
duty. They grow as people because they have no fear going into war infested waters. Dunkirk is
a true story that also has minimal exaggerated parts. John Broich from Slate said In terms of
accuracy, it rates pretty highly. There are no big, glaring historical whoppers . The portrayal of
the soldiers was accurate. During war soldiers had to deal with artillery fire, air assaults, and
pure trauma and during the movie it was represented correctly. Nolan s idea for this movie was
to represent the terrors of war and experiences soldiers had to deal with. Not everything was
portrayed accurately but this is a movie and the audience needs to be entertained somehow.
Although Tommy and Alex are character brought to life, soldiers would try anything possible to
get on ships. Unfortunately, many shivered to death because of the fear of being trapped in a
shipping ship. Points were exaggerated to serve a purpose however, the audience member can
realistically create an image in their head about war and what it takes to survive and serve your
country. For a movie that reaches two hours in length the audience member should be at the edge
of their seat. It always crosses the back of the audiences members mind if

The Pharisees
In order to gain a fully comprehensive insight into Jesus Christ, his person and his politics, one
must delve deeper into the historical and social context of His time on earth. Most are aware of the
general details; that he resided in the Galilee and Judea regions, that his birth determined the turn of
the first century, and that he interacted with various cultural and social forces. The parties with
which he was involved were depicted frequently throughout the bible most notably the Jews,
Gentiles, Sadducees, Romans, Zealots and Pharisees.
What most are unaware of is that the latter, the Pharisees, have been highly questioned and
criticised due to the general and often seen as subjective depiction of them throughout the New ...

They believed that their laws and spirituality should be a social force and thus were open to a
doctrinal development of Traditions of the Fathers non biblical laws and customs believed to have
been passed down through the generations. These teachings supplemented the written Torah and
were part of what the Rabbis later would call the Oral Law. (Schiffman, 1994: 77)
They considered each of the laws and tradition which were canonized in Pentateuch (444BCE) to
be capable of being expanded to address new circumstances even going so far as to be
reinterpreted to accord with uprising belief systems. New meanings would assure relevancy
within society by allowing the Torah to be amended by this Oral Law, providing the Pharisees
with the ability to adapt and develop in society, and become progressively popular and respected.
They believed the Torah and their Tradition (Oral Law) to be of equal authority, and for any
application of Oral Law to carry a binding force they must possess the same weight and
fundamentals as the Torah. Simply put, it was the Torah As interpreted through the oral law
(tradition) which counted (Aboth 3:12). This Tradition of The Fathers allowed Judaismto adapt to
the new and varied circumstances it would face in Talmudic times and later. In time,
Pharisaism would become rabbinic Judaism the basis for all subsequent Jewish life and

Technology Is An Evolving Tool With Many Purposes
Technology is an evolving tool with many purposes. Its usefulness carries over from fields like
Information Technology (IT) to other business fields like accounting or human resources.
Technology can help a business become more efficient and have more accurate information. It can
also help with data analysis to create more accurate and useful reports for stockholders and upper
levels of management to make decisions about a company. Every year technology continues to
change and new technology and software trends emerge. Over the past decade Optical Character
Recognitionhas become an emerging technology and is now being used in many fields to aid
businesses and business processes.
Optical character recognition (OCR) is a technology that allows images of handwritten and typed
text to be transferred into machine encoded text that can then be downloaded into an enterprise
data system allowing documents to be edited and searched. OCR technology also allows for
processes such as cognitive computing, machine translation, key data entry, and text mining which
are other advanced emerging technologies. Beginning versions of OCR technology required
computer training of each individual character one at a time. Today, this technology is able to
recognize various fonts and support different types of digital images and file inputs. OCR was
originally developed to assist those with sight impediments to help them be able to read printed
information because when a file is scanned the words

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five Essay
I. Author
Kurt Vonnegut s background had an endless influence upon his writing. In his early years,
Vonnegut was a private in the 106th infantry division in World War II. He and five scouts were
caught behind enemy lines, and then captured. They were held POWs and were beaten on various
occasions. In 1945, they witnessed the fire bombing of Dresden, Germany. Kept during this time in
a slaughterhouse, this is part of the inspiration for Slaughterhouse five. After being released from
the Slaughterhouse, Vonnegut called Dresden utter destruction and carnage unfathomable . This
distressing time in his life led to one of the many themes of Slaughterhouse five which is that
nothing good can come from war and a massacre. This theme ... Show more content on

He also is in a zoo on the foreign planet, Tralfamadore. Billy also spends a brief amount of time in
an institute for people suffering post traumatic stress disorder due to the war. Point of View: In
the beginning, Vonnegut the narrator, explains his relations to the war and his experiences in
Dresden. After that he narrates the story, but comes up at other various times in the book as this
is I or this is me . He comes up then as for the reader to relate Billy Pilgrim to the author. The rest
of the book is in third person omniscient. It mostly talks about Billy and his experiences, but
sometimes minor characters thoughts are talked about too. Theme: There are a couple themes
in this book. The first theme is the destructiveness of a massacre. This is displayed when the
narrator says Everything is supposed to be very quiet after a massacre, and it always is, except
for the birds. And what do the birds say? All there is to say about a massacre, things like Poo tee
weet? (pg. 215 Vonnegut). The bird says this because the narrator is trying to get the point across
that there is nothing good to say about a massacre, and really nothing at all to say about the
pointlessness and pure destruction it causes. The second theme displayed in this book is the
illusion of free will. The Tralfamadorians have the knowledge of the fourth dimension which shows
them their whole life played out for them and all parts of it happening simultaneously

Argument in Favor of Oedipus Fate
Play: Oedipus Rex
Writter: Sophocles
No one can deny freewill of a person totally, so as fate. But as I m in favor of Oedipus, the
protagonist of ancient Greek play Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. I think here in it, fate is more
responsible for Oedipus end.
Many questions were raised against Oedipus in class argument about his character flaws, running
from the fate, killing his father, marrying his mother, and insulting prophet etc. Here I would try to
answer as much I can.
Firstly it is important to mention that, it is the play which had great importance for ... Show more

If the fate is already been cast in iron, then what difference do his characteristics make! Teiresias
himself said that whatever is written in fate will be done;
Teiresias
Well, it will come what will, though I be mute.
Oedipus
Since come it must, thy duty is to tell me.
Teiresias
I have no more to say; storm as thou willst,
And give the rein to all thy pent up rage. (341 347)
If it is to be asked that why he was so aggressive? He should control his anger! Moreover why he
murdered four people, as murder is a sin. So it should be kept in mind that he was already upset
by the unexpected prophecy and servants became him angrier by attacking him, also he was the
same arrogant father s son, so he should not be blame only.
Names from the heroic age were of course often related to the man s nature or destiny or we can
also take it in other way that name effect person s life. Usually good and meaningful names are
considered important because they have some effect on human s whole life and personality. So
we can say that names did their work in this play as well. The name Oedipus is derived from a
verb oida which means know which connects to knowledge and pous means swollen foot . It can
be meant like that, a person who knows his feet, by which he was able to solve the riddle.
After solving the riddle, he got famous as the hero of Thebes, he became the new king as Laius

Different Characteristics Of Forests, Grasslands And Savannas
Grasslands/Savannas
Savannas, also known as tropical grasslands, are open spaces where the vegetation is dominated
by grass. They are found between forests and deserts, where there is the perfect amount of rainfall
in order for this biome to survive. Savannas are located in South America, Africa, India, and
Australia. They have warm temperature the whole year, and there are two different seasons, a dry
winter that lasts 4 6 months, and a wet summer that lasts 6 8 months. Temperatures in this biome
can climb above 90В° F during summer. And during winter, it usually falls to 64В° F. The average
rainfall is from 20 50 inches per year.
The dry season begins with violent thunderstorms that create strong winds. These factors often
promotes the spread of fires during this season, which causes most animals to migrate to another
area; most of the plants begin to die, with the exception of the ones that have underground
storage organs to help them survive; and the rivers dry up. However, when the rainy season
arrives, many types of grasses grow in the savannas and they easily survive seasonal fires; rivers
flow freely; lakes fill up again; and the animals that migrated will come back to the savanna.
In order to survive, tropical grasslands need the dry. If it rained all year, the area would become a
tropical forest. On the other hand, if it didn t rain at all, then it would become a dessert. In many
savannas a combination of seasonal fires and large numbers of grazing animals

Right Choices In Michael Lehmann s Heathers
Asking a child which snack he prefers, a vegetable or something better suited for dessert, it is
more than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against
his parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing
than an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too
irresistible to pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is
ubiquitous in media. In Michael Lehmann s drama Heathers, Veronica Sawyer finds difficulty in
assuaging her situation because of her oscillation between choosing to carry out all opportunities to
take revenge or to stick to ethics, leading into the idea... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Veronica was neither a saint nor a fiend, J.D. was her foil, displaying the wickedness he
attained from his poor upbringing. His complete disgust with the way society treated itself led
him to plan to blow up his high school. Noticing that Veronica was trying to turn her life around,
he tried one last time for her to sympathize with him: You want to wipe the slate clean as much as
I do. Okay, so maybe I am killing everyone in the school because no one loves me (Heathers).
While some may consider J.D. to be symbolic of malevolence, the problem with being on the
extreme side of the figurative evilness scale is that evil... only emerges when we are broken off
into disconnected fragments (Taylor). This shows that even the outliers remain neutral, because the
pain people experience or lack thereof skews their viewpoints on what they want and what extremes
they will go to to attain

Song Vs Poetry
The threat of death often moves one to fulfill their life, and can inspire poetry. This theme of a
joyous life before death is seen in both the poem Death by Rainer Maria Rilke and the song We
Might Be Dead Tomorrow by Soko. Although these two pieces follow the same theme, they are
widely different in how they include poetic devices in the piece. Song and poetryare viewed
differently considering that a song often focuses on the music behind the lyrics more than the
lyrics themselves, whereas a poem is focused on using words and poetic devices to fulfill its
purpose and theme. Claire Dederer, a writer from the Poetry Foundation, suggests that Song lyrics
do a fine imitation of poetry, but they re not quite the same thing. Lyrics are a... Show more content

Organization often looks the other way when making a decision regarding the process of their

A lot of money would be used for solving the social problems. Most of the time, there is limited
money for that. Technical also been used to solving problems. So, in order to avoid the limited of
resources, most of the organizations will possess the resources (such as money and expertise)

Analysis:
My analysis is that is in order to solve these social problems, the environment will need to be
cleaner. Our organization would benefit by contributing to assist in correcting these issues. The
company can use ethical decision making to secure the organization environmental responsibility.
Decisions that would allow for government agencies to get involved with the organization. For

Metaphors In Brokeback Mountain
In Ang Lee s film Brokeback Mountain, two men, Ennis and Jack, cross paths and develop a
complex, taboo relationship that neither of them can explain. They lose their wives, children, and
ultimately feel as if they lose their own grasp of who they are as men while exploring their feelings
for each other. Nature and the surroundings of Ennis and Jack play a vital role in understanding the
mood of the situation and their feelings throughout the story. The story is primarily expressed
through its surroundings; this is how the emotions of the characters are expressed. Instead of being
straightforward, the nature is a more meaningful and effective way to illustrate their feelings. Annie

Lee incorporates the sound of wind to illustrate the metaphor of insecurity. The opening scene with
the truck driving through the hills includes several extreme long shots with a cold, dark
atmosphere and sharp, unwelcoming music and the sound of wind, which returns when Ennis is
leaning against his trailer moments later. These scenes foreshadow the events to come with Jack
and the feelings of lostness and insecurity that Ennis feels. In the scene after Jack and Ennis s first
sexual encounter in the tent, Ennis and Jack are horsing around in the field while Joe, their boss,
watches them in disgust. During this scene, the wind is loud and the trees shake, representing
distress and negativity. The wind is recurring and often is meant to express the feelings they can t
explain with words. Ennis feels as if his feelings for Jack are not accepted by society and therefore,
by himself, either. When Ennis goes to Jack s home to see his parents, the atmosphere in the house
is extremely unwelcoming. The surroundings represent the feelings of insecurity and being an
outcast in the home that Ennis feels. The cold, stark atmosphere of Jack s home illustrates the
christian judgement that Ennis and Jack feel from their families. Even in the beginning of the film,
Ennis is leaning against the trailer and there is a church steeple in the background, foreshadowing
the judgement from society. Ennis feels extremely cornered and insecure by Jack s father and their
home. While Ang Lee and Annie Proulx take slightly different angles to the story, they both find

Who was Upton Sinclair is a question that is easily answered. Upton Sinclair was one in the group

Citigroup Inc. ranks fifth with 5.5% market share (Andrews, 2011).
Banking industry is currently operating in the maturity stage. There are many players as a result
of which the competition is quite high. Competition is broadly based on the levels of fees charged,
reputation, the range of services and products provided. As the industry consolidates and the range
of services broadens, the size and geographic spread of industry players in increasing. Providing a
high set of barriers is the capital and regulatory requirements within the banking sector. Entities that
want to start up as a commercial bank and/or investment bank or securities dealer face significant
establishment costs in order to gain acceptance and meet market reputation. Furthermore, start ups
require up front expenses in order to establish proper distribution channels. Globalization is high
and the trend is increasing. Cross border sales and acquisitions of banking operations are also
occurring, as assets are shuffled in the race to raise capital.
The cyclical nature of the industry results in it having very high revenue volatility. When economic
and financial market conditions are good, this industry tends to perform well. When the financial
markets turn downward, revenue is often hit hard and early. In terms of the industry assistance,
there was little support before the subprime

The Consequences Of Grade Inflation
The Consequences of Grade Inflation We ve all been pleasantly surprised by receiving a higher
grade than expected on a school assignment or exam. Unfortunately, the average grade being
given to today s college student does not reflect the quality of the work submitted, and it is
having a negative effect on students. Students end up using valuable grant and loan money taking
developmental classes, because they received passing grades in core subjects when they should
have failed. Teachers have adapted their grading system to reflect the under developed skills of
the students. This practice handicaps students during their academic years, as well as their post
graduation and entry into the workforce. Through a more rigid grading system, today s students
would improve their work ethic and become more prepared to face post graduation challenges. The
problem we are discussing is called gradeinflation , and it has become widespread on campuses
across America. In the 1950 s, the average GPA for college students was 2.52; by 2006, that figure
had risen to 3.11 (Newlon). According to former Duke UniversityprofessorStuart Rojstaczer, At
some colleges, over 50% of the grades given are A s. Rojstaczer s school of thought is that this
trend began during the Vietnam War era, as a result of professors helping students to stay in school
in order to avoid the draft (Newlon). Long after the end of the Vietnam War and student deferments,
this trend continues. This trend does not

Stephen Crane Irony
Imagery, irony, and structure all has major influences on describing the effects of war. When it
comes to telling about wars it s important you make an impact on your readers, and this can be
done in several ways. It s often seen writers use imagery to display the effects war had on not only
the men themselves but their families also. Imagery is shown very effectively when it is said that
people were shooting them in the back and shooting/ them more times necessary to actually kill
them (Powers). The most common viewpoint of the warwas told from the stories of what actually
place in war, and the killing aspect of it all. People were shot in the head (O Brien).
Another way to uncover the effects of war was irony. They use irony to make the readers stop
and think about the difference between what is expected and what is actually said. It was said
that these men were born to drill and die (Crane 8). The irony of this is we as the readers know
that men are not born to actually drill and die . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different approaches taken through the structure of a poem or short article. Writer
Stephen Crane repeats Do not weep./War is kind. (Crane 4 5). As shown this phrase is repeated
four times throughout the poem. This is thoroughly repeated to make the readers think about the
phrase. It s almost like the author is trying to persuade someone to go into war but then saying to
not go. This poem shows how war affects a family, and not only affects the man, their son. Another
popular example of structure is run on sentences. In The Yellow Birds the whole passage is a run
on sentence. It all one thought, that never ends. It is shown through him saying What are you
going to do?, but really it doesn t matter... (Powers). This really shows how war affects someone
mentally. This is an ongoing thought, never ending. Imagery, irony, and structure are three main
ways to display the effects of someone and also kind of advertise certain

In Jane Austen s Persuasion love and family is a major thing I learned to see and control just
because of this book. Jane Austen is a very interesting woman. She is 7 out of 8 kids. Her sister and
her Cassandra were very close. Both had plenty of chances of marring and having a family. By 25,
she had written 3 books, Persuasion not being one of them. She had written her last book in
1818, Persuasion. In my eyes Jane was a normal England girl. She was homed school, had a big
loving family, and perused her dream. She didn t get the respect she deserved, but did write pretty
good books. Jane passed away July 18. 1817, she died of Addison s disease which is a deadly
disease. Jane Austenwas one of England s foremost novelists. She had one... Show more content on

In 1815 Emma was published then Austen began Persuasion and finished the following year.
Soon her health became bad; she had gotten Addison s disease. Henery bought Susan back, and
Jane renamed it to Catherine. She soon wrote her will, and Cassandra and Jane moved to
Winchester. July 18, 1817 Jane passed away she was 41. Her grave site never gave her props of
being an author. Persuasion and Northanger Abby were published in December 1817. Henery
gave her a biographical notice saying she was the author of all these great books. (Sutherland)
Some love her some hate her, but Jane Austen is actually loved by many. Some call her a heroine
and a heroine is a woman admired of idealized for her courage, outstand achievements, or noble
qualities. She just might be a hero to some people. She is very relevant because she talks about
stuff that people go through till this day. Like love, money, friendship, and family. I ve read a lot
of websites and they all say she writes with a great sense of irony, humor, and realism. She had
real life characters, and real life situations. Who wouldn t love an author like that who talks about
stuff that we are going through, plus she died in 1817. Like people went through what we did

and boring. They claim they cannot get past the first chapter. I think they just said

Effects Of Technology In Technology
Advancements in Technology Affects Social Skills As the world of technology continues to
advance, the ways in which humans communicate also continues to change dramatically. At one
point in life all means of communication was face to face whereas now we are offered an
abundance of different social media and technology concepts that have taken away from face to
face communicating. Although we can look at the spread of social media to be a positive aspect in
which it has helped people communicate in different ways, face to face social skills are still
necessary for social growth and development. As use of technology becomes more common
amongst children at a young age, it negatively affects communicationbecause it promotes
impersonal behavior.
As society continues to change and adapt to modern day technology, social media becomes
more widely used and accepted amongst people of various ages. Children are being born into a
generation of Millennials where technology has become something most people tend to depend
on to get through their daily lives. Elaina Zachos, an intern for public source states, The U.S.
Census Bureau says there are 83.1 million people between the ages of 18 to 34 in the nation.
Studies show the average Millennial spends 18 hours per day using any type of digital media.

School Lunch Program Essay
Public school lunch programs have come a long way since the 1970 s. Most initiatives were
privately ran which meant big variation from city to city and even school to school. Legal
complexities and a lack of support from the Board of Education made it nearly impossible to create
a sustainable program. It was not until the agriculture industry realized that public schools served as
a market for surplus foods that schoollunchprograms gained momentum on a national scale.
Despite the surpluses later being prioritized for the war efforts during world war II, it was obvious
that school lunch programs were popular. It was just a constant challenge on how to keep them
funded. Finally, two bills were introduced to secure permanent funding. Drafts and numerous
revisions ultimately ended in the birth of the National School Lunch Act of 1946. Public schools

competency of public schools is on education and not on food production. As a result, many
schools have started outsourcing and using contract food services like Chartwell s for their food

How Does Theseus Value The Giver
The Greeks valued Theseus nobility and bravery, and even today, his traits would be still be
valued. We live in a world where so much time is spent on building a future for ourselves, that it
doesn t give us much time to be adventurous. This is seen in a number books, including Divergent
and The Giver. Divergent revolves about this character who looked down on for being different in
a community where all is standardized. In The Giver, everything is regulated, but one character has
a special gift which makes him stand out. These books are fairly modern, which makes me believe
that Theseustraits would still be valued. Bravery is not something that is common and sticking to
your morals can be difficult when you live in such an opinionated world.

First Century Judaism
Many see in the first century Judaism a unified or state religion from which Christianity sprung off.
Truth is, looking at Judaism from a monolithic perspective might be the reason why some
understand it to be a monolithic block. Though one cannot justify the claim that Christianity split
off of Judaism as a new religion, it remains certain that the former finds its origin in the weakness
of the latter, a process that happened over a few generations. However, this should not be taken to
mean that Christianitywas originally a simple outgrowth of Judaismunder Jesusbecause the former
can be anything but a different form of Judaism. It is indeed the fulfillment of Judaism.
Conversely to the affirmation that Judaism was not a unified religion, time and documents handed

Christianity.
First century Judaism meets Christianity in their conception of God whom they describe in the

of Judaism in the way they behave in accordance with the Law of Moses. Also, the concept of

these resemblances, the teachings of the first century Judaism were different from the teachings of
the Master in many ways.
One of the many ways Jesus teachings differ from the Jews was on their Messianic beliefs. It is
true that both Jews and Christians were in the wait for the forthcoming of a redeemer from the
line of David whose mission would be to proclaim a day of final deliverance and to establish his

is on the higher side of the rating spectrum, yet she continues to aim higher. Lacie is always giving
full ratings to everyone regardless of their status but pays particular attention to those who have
more stars. The difference between giving high status individuals good ratings and mid range
individuals is the hopes that they return the favour. Trying to achieve too much too quickly will not
result in good ratings for anyone, including Lacie. Unlike those in the mid range, high rating elites

She never lets her guard down when it comes to her social media ratings. To continue increasing her
ratings, she is adamant on socializing with high status people. By applying Erving Goffman s
impression management, it is evident that there are multiple ways that Lacie uses to avoid public
shaming and embarrassment. Goffman s concept shows different situations that can be avoidable as
long as people present themselves in a certain way. When an individual is in public, it is best to be
continuously updated with recent events. Once out of the loop, that can result in public
embarrassment because the knowledge that has been applied is outdated and cannot compete with
the newer information. When shame is brought, there can be actions to avoid them such as
changing the subject or in Lacie s situation, sending full ratings in hopes of avoiding
embarrassment and to save face. Shame is a very hard thing to accept and it can change a person
s life drastically. It is the difference between having the highest rating and hitting rock bottom.
Achieving a higher status is easy, but being stripped of your status is just as simple. Before going
out in public, an update on knowledge can be done to avoid embarrassment and it can also be a
conversation starter showing how much attention is being paid to someone. The person showing
attention can feel a sense of success as a result of being constantly updated on social media, while

The Effects of Concussions on Human Beings
The Effects of Concussions on Human Beings.
Did you know, that someone suffers from a brain injury every 21 seconds (Haas)? Children get
concussions all the time, and most of the time they go unnoticed. The majority of concussions
happen when one is playing a sport such as football, hockey, or lacrosse. Many famous athletes
have had their careers, even their lives cut short due to concussions. Brain damage and death can
result from serial concussions (Schafer). When one suffers from a concussion, one s brain needs
time to recover physically and mentally. Between 2002 and 2006, statistics showed that 52,000
people died from concussions and about 275,000 were hospitalized (Fundukian). Everyone s

There are two main long term effects of a concussion: post concussion syndrome and second
impact syndrome. Second impact syndrome is when one receives a blow to the head before the
brain is completely healed. This results in swelling of the brain, and that can result in a fatal
death. The main reason that people suffer from this is they do not get the proper amount of rest
that they need before they go back and play whatever sport they were playing. Since 1984, more
than twenty people have died from second impact syndrome (Caroline M, et al.). Anyone who
receives a second concussion that is moderate to severe after they have had a first one should sit
out from their sport for at least a month to avoid second impact syndrome. Second impact
syndrome seems to be rare with patients, but the chance of getting second impact syndrome is
higher in people who play football, soccer, baseball, or basketball, and ski or who box. Another
more common long term effect of a concussion is post concussion syndrome. Post concussion
syndrome is a side effect of a concussion, and it may last for weeks or even months. Athletes who
suffer from this side effect must not return to sports while experiencing the symptoms. If one
constantly gets concussions while playing this sport, they should consider not playing that sport for
a while. Symptoms of postconcussive syndrome include memory and concentration problems,

The Obesity Epidemic in the United States
The United States of America is known for having a high obesity level. According to David
Frum from CNN, except for Mexicans, American citizens are more likely to become obese than
any other nationality. Some obese countries have enforced an extra high tax on fast foods and
other high calorie foods, and many people believe that the U.S. should adopt the fat tax as well.
According to Dictionary.com, the fat tax is a tax imposed on or proposed for high fat or
otherwise unhealthy foodstuffs . Although a tax on junk food could reduce obesity, the low
prices could protect low income families from going broke, and therefore a tax on junk food
would not be beneficial to America. One of the main groups that would be negatively affected
by a fat tax are the diabetics. Those who fight hypoglycemia occasionally need candy or soda to
raise their blood sugar levels. Why should diabetics have to pay more for something that could
potentially save their lives? They already have to pay extremely high costs for their insulin to
keep their glucose levels from reaching too high. At Diabetic Care Services and Pharmacy, a
box of five Humalog pen Kwikpens cost $339.29, which is extremely expensive, especially if the
buyer does not have health insurance. The cost of living is very high for someone with diabetes

The Importance Of Discrimination In The Film Industry
the main synonym neither to the discrimination in the industry nor the lack of female
professionals. Discrimination is not only lack of representation of the gender, but in this case
also representation of only a small pool of women specialists (Paydar 5). The same female actors,
directors, producers, writers, etc. are hired repeatedly, mostly those connected to the males at the
top of the hierarchical ladder or having had experience and success with the same studio before
(John 432 437). Existence of female professionals and hiring of a female for a project does not
indicate the overcoming of systemic barriers. The question is not only in the number or percentage
of women involved in the production, but about diversity and equal opportunities. Another
component of initial hiring practices in filmstudios is correlation with law and associations
requirements. Diversity requirement that is standard for the industry usually poses a quota that
allows the employer to hire females or maleminorities. By providing a choice of hiring a male of
color or a female, this provision allows studios to evade anti discriminationlaws (Paydar 8).
Fighting all these exclusions based on sex and discrimination practices is possible mostly by
individual court orders through several claims available to women within US laws (Bureau of
National Affairs). However, there is a limited number of women in any field of the film industry
who would go to court suing multimillion studios that control a

Congestion and Traffic Pollution in New York City Essay
Congestion and traffic pollution has been a major problem in New York City for years. There
have been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the
problem. Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways
that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion
causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they

This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars,
specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic
congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion
and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York Citys congestion problem is to
decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer
alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more
public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic
pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges
and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would
be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in
Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would
not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and
resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would
allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall
pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would be viable in decreasing

Machiavellian Folly in The Prince Essay
Machiavellian Folly in The Prince
In the annals of history, many individuals have contributed great works of literature, waxing
philosophically on the meaning of life, death, and love. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote not on love or
life, but on power: How to capture it, how to consolidate it, and how to defend it against all
comers. His work has been talked about and dissected to the extent that his subject matter and
methods have earned their own moniker: Machiavellian. Nonetheless, this great philosopher s
works did not meet with unanimous approval. His own student, Thomas Hobbes, presented a very
different account of politics. This essay offers a Hobbesian critique of some of Machiavelli s
arguments, focusing in and around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 Humans, according to Machiavelli, are not the morally grounded beings the Bible espouses them
to be. He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men: that they are ungrateful,
fickle, pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger, eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli
argues that man is precarious a being of dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with
this analysis, and took it one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and
perpetual desire for power, which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be satisfied
with the power he has. Hobbes writes:
... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present, without the
acquisition of more [power].
Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason dictate that he will
do this by any means necessary even if it means killing everyone around him. Critics argue that
Hobbes and Machiavelli are too pessimistic; but they would both beg to differ. To both Hobbes

Nt1310 Unit 3 Data Center Design
Server Farm Design (Data Center) Since the data center has several servers that include critical
data, including research, studies, patents, and experiments, I have decided keep the data center
inside the internal network, so there is no direct interface with internet. The data center will be
connected to two servers as it is shown in figure 4. I have decided to use two Cisco Catalyst
3850 Series switches, that support encryption and provide scalability and resilience. Figure 4.
the Data Center design of the Future Corporation VTP design (VLAN design) In the Future
Corporation LAN, I have decided to some Virtual Area LAN Network (VLAN) for better
performance, easier administration, less cost, and better security. There will be two VLANs for
each department, total will be 26 VLANs. The first VLAN in each department will be only for
the employees department, and the second VLAN will be for the guests. I have decided to use
static VLANs, so every port will be configured to be belong to a VLAN. I have selected static

First, it supports up to 1Gbps, which is a fair speed for the users. Second, the distance does not
matter because all the departments workstations will connect to the switch that is in the same
building. For the cabling between the access and distribution layer, I have decided to use Multi
Mode Fiber (MMF) for many reasons. First, there is huge amount of data coming from the
switches in the access layer to the 3 layer switch in the distribution layer, and the MMF cable can
deal with heavy traffic data. Second, since that MMF speed is 10Gbps, that makes the 3 layer
switch receive and send the data faster to the switches in the access layer. Third, the distance
between the switches in the access layer and the 3 layer switches in the distribution layer is less
than 2 km. For the core layer, I have decided to

Sustainability Planning For Sustainable Policies Essay
Addressing the challenges and opportunities in environmental policy making requires the analyses
of various interweaving aspects which at times is almost impossible when utilizing a single tool
under any given circumstance. The primary reason for sustainability planning in Forest
Management, Wildlife Conservation and Rangeland Managementlies in ensuring natural resources
serve the present as well as future population. However, it is impossible to convince the population
that is being driven by economic needs to abide by sustainable policies without concrete reasons;
this brings in the notion of science based decision making. Just in case a significant portion of the
resources have been destroyed before the enforcement of the sustainable policies, a marketing
solution would be employed to prevent further destruction as restoration is underway.
Finally, a collaborative planning model would be applied to prevent recurrence of the incidences
that led to destruction with the aim of conserving what is left by involving a larger crowd in
decision making. In summary, sustainability cannot be attained without the input of scientific
research, collaborative management, and marketing solution.
The focus of this paper is on Public Lands Management, the attention will be given to the challenges
and opportunities that lie within. Therefore, this section will concentrate on the collaborative
management tool. It will describe the pro s and con s in environmental policy making Davis

Comparing Pathos And Ethos In The Rich Brother By Tobias...
Our brothers and sisters are there with us from the dawn of our personal stories to the inevitable
dusk (Susan Scarf Merrell).Merrell, an American author and a creative writing and literature
teacher at Stony Brook Southampton, states that since the early days of your youth to the end of
our story our siblings are there throughout our whole journey. Life is like a play; parents pass on
during the first half; while ones children come in during the second half; but siblings are there
throughout both acts. Tobias Wolff s, The Rich Brother, portrays the relationship between two
brothers that are complete opposites; yet they know each other s strengths and weaknesses better
than anyone else will ever be able. Tobias Wolff makes use of pathos and

The Underground Man Analysis
The Underground Man s character and relationships in the novella The Underground Man, are
quickly ruined by his philosophical convictions. One of these convictions is that the only way to
feel alive is to feel pain and suffering, and the two choices in life are either lofty suffering or cheap
happiness. The Underground Man ruins relationships with Liza through believing that he will not
be able to have true happinesswith her and instead, it will all be fake. This thinking is completely
irrational and does not allow him to achieve true happiness, as he does not choose to understand that
that is a possibility in life. The irrational thinking in the Underground Man s head, causes illogical
actions when it comes to emotions and situations that he is not used to. These situations all have
negative repercussions that further cause the Underground man to believe that his relationships and
happiness are unattainable. The Underground Man uses the belief that lofty sufferingis the only way
to feel alive, to justify his poor actions and chooses in tricky situations. The Underground Man has
finally found a girl who attempts to understand and go through what he is going through, and yet
he abuses this upper hand that he has and bullies her. He claims that he cannot achieve love, and
to him, love is the bullying and suffering that gives him some form of happiness or feeling in life.
After Liza has stormed out of the room and is gone forever, The Underground Man poses a

English Language By Chinua Ngugi
II: In this section Ngugi speaks about how the English an imperialistic language that belongs to
Europe dominates the local languages in the post colonial Africa. He asks to the reader that how
did people become to be so feeble towards the claims of their languages on them and so aggressive
in their claims on other languages, particularly the languages of their colonization. It is worth
mentioning the words spoken by Chinua Achebe, is it right that a man should abandon his mother
languagefor some one else s? It looks like a dreadful betrayal and produces a guilty feeling .
Ngugi refers to the 1962 African writer s conference at Makerere University College in Kampala,
Uganda: A Conference of African Writers of English Expression. Excluding writers who wrote in
African tongues, it proceeded to discuss questions of what African literature is or could be, while
accepting that it must be in English. This cruel poisonous paradox is summed up this way: The
bullet was the means of the physical subjugation and language was the means of the spiritual
subjugation (9).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He contrasts his village lessons via stories in his native tongue, Gikuyu, wherein language was
magical and powerful and musical. Then he speaks of school, wherein he was forced to learn
English and witness as English was used to sort students into a pyramid hierarchy. Even if he the
students score high marks in other subjects, if they fail to get marks in English they were not given
promotion to higher classes.in addition to this, students were punished for speaking in their local
languages and those students who spoke in their local language were humiliated severely. The
language of his education was no longer the language of his culture. Through his experience Ngugi
showcases how English became the official vehicle and the magic formula to colonial elitedom.

How Does Mary Play A Role In The Life Of Jesus
Mary is very important part of the life of Jesus. She lead an eventful life that lead up to the birth
of Jesus Christ. Not only was she an example of faith for her family, but future generations as well.
Mary was born in Nazareth, Israel, to her parents Saint Anne and Joachim. Anne and Joachim were
unable to have children so Joachim went to the Temple, then to the country to pray. While he was
gone, Anne, the mother of Mary, made a promise to God that if he would give her a child, she
would dedicate that child s life to the Lord s service. The two of them received a vision from an
angel, who said Anne would conceive and give birth to a wonderful child. When Mary was three
years old, Anne and Joachim brought her to the Temple at Jerusalem, to fulfill the promise of
Anne. Mary was left at the Temple and brought up there. This event was very important to the
church and without being raised in service to God, Mary would have been a very different person
and it would have affected the life of Jesus.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

named Gabriel, appeared to her told her she would bear a son and his name would be Jesus. He

punishment; stoning. Mary was unwed and pregnant, and had only the story of an angel to tell
Joseph and her parents. It was within Joseph s rights, that he inform others of Mary s sin and to
watch her execution. However, with the help of an angel, and Joseph s faith and acceptance of the

Third Man Noir
Graham Greene, the author of The Third Man wrote the screenplay for his film before adapting it
into the novella of the same name. Because of this rather peculiar order, the similarities between the
two are very strong, something that is not always the case with books and their film adaptations.
Though there a few stylistic differences between the novella and the film, the two mediums of
storytelling both remained quite true to the storyline. The noir genre was an essential piece to the
story of The Third Man, and both the novella and the film were able to convey this in their own
way though the techniques varied because of the two different mediums. Noir literature is usually
comprised of a few solid elements: dark, detective or criminal... Show more content on

The music was by Viennese zither player Anton Karas whose greatest accomplishment was the
soundtrack for The Third Man. In Roger Ebert s review of the film, he made sure to praise the
music by stating, Has there ever been a film where the music more perfectly suited the action
than in Carol Reed s The Third Man ?... The sound is jaunty but without joy, like whistling in the
dark. It sets the tone; the action begins like an undergraduate lark and then reveals vicious
undertones (Ebert). This description so nicely explains the soundtrack, and especially the
theme; it has a playful feel to it, but when it is paired with the film itself, it sounds a bit
mischievous and even a bit eerie, but, overall, it sets the tone for the action of the film. Ebert
concludes his review by praising the way that the film made him feel by stating that, Of all the
movies I have seen, this one most completely embodies the romance of going to the movies. It
was weary and knowing, and it s glorious style was an act of defiance against the corrupt world it
pictured (Ebert). This statement stands as a true testament to the film and to all who worked on it,
and it really shows what a quality film The Third Man really

Summary Of Sara Bartman
In this essay I attempt to unpack how black femininity was depicted as savage in 19th Century
Britain. I do so by looking into the Sara Bartman discourse as the foundation of this argument.
Herein I look at the important role Sara Bartman came to play in underpinning an imperialist mind
set. In addition to this, I look at the how the exhibition of the savage was important in imparting
genderspecificity to the dichotomy between the colonizer and the colonised.
Before we can look into this discourse, it is important to look at the dominant masculinities as
femininities are built in relation to masculinities. Firstly, we look at the hegemonic masculinity. This
particular masculinity is the dominant or ideal form of masculinity by which masculinities are
judged (Connell, 1987). These constructed ideals of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his modern rediscovery of Sara Bartman, he writes about her in the context of circuses and
freak shows, although his account was, to say the least, markedly lacking in both racial and
gender sensitivity (Abrahams, 1998:221). Altick goes further by referring to Bartman as savage ,
Hottentot and a heavy arsed heathen (Abrahams, 1998). These derogatory terms are problematic
because he writes about her in the absence of evidence. This calls in to question Alticks
objectivity and thus the accuracy of his account given. From Abrahams (1998) we see the notion
of Bartman being a savage beast perpetuated by various writers. Through their writings they
reinforce the idea of the black savage . We need to look at what they have done, not in a spirit of
salacious inquiry, but in order to begin to dismantle the myths and see clearly their function in
creating and perpetuating racial hierarchies (Abrahams, 1998: 222). An example whereby a crucial
connection between slavery and Sara Bartmans as a metaphor is highlighted by Paula Giddings

My Lai Massacre Summary
The explanation of why upright people execute wrongful actions is interpreted in multiple ways.
In The My Lai Massacre: A Military Crime of Obedience, Herbert C. Kelman, a professor of social
ethics, and V. Lee Hamilton, a sociologist, discuss how the practice of authorization, routinization,
and dehumanization are employed to carry out unethical actions similar to the My Lai Massacre.
The American Law assumes that subordinates should be obeying orders; however, when linked to
obeying superiors, moral principles become inoperative. Erich Fromm, a psychoanalyst, and the
author of Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem, explains how the different types of
mindset and authorities can be noticeably effective in whether one is obedient.... Show more content

As US military expert Rod Powers explains how those who are military members who fail to
obey their superiors risk serious consequences in Military Orders , and could relate to why
Dawson and Downey were convicted for their crimes (Power). Required to follow orders, a
soldier does not need to obey an unlawful order, but those who obey can be pinned with criminal
prosecution and in this case, it matches with Dawson and Downey s situation where they taped
and tied up Santiago (Power). Fromm can conclude that irrational authority is used by using a
comparison between a slave and their master; the superior wants the best they can draw from
their subordinate and tries to exploit them, leading them to control with force (Fromm 126).
When it comes to deciding whether or not an order is ethical, it is also the soldier s call to
believe the legitimacy of the order; according to Saul McLeod, who is a psychologist and the
author of Obedience to Authority, obedience is a form of social influence by responding to a
direct order from another individual (McLeod). Although Col. Jessup urged for no one to touch
Santiago, Kendricks directly ordered Dawson and Downey to treat him with a Code Red, going
against Col. Jessup s orders. Numerous situations occur where two people will discuss the same
topic, but would contradict each other. It is easy to say I was only following orders to justify
one s self to explain their reasoning, but that statement, also known as the Nuremberg Defense, is
not going to save a person every time. Yes, Dawson and Downey were only following orders, but
did they ever take a moment to question whether it was the right action and for a sensible reason?
Probably not in consideration that it is a routine to follow a command because if they deny their
superior s order, many consequences will follow. Kelman and Hamilton logically claimed that

  • 2. Plot PLOT OF INTO THE WILD (FILM) The film is presented in a nonlinear narrative, jumping back and forth between McCandless s time spent in Alaskan wilderness and his two year travels leading up to his journey to Alaska. The plot summary here is told in a more chronological order. In May 1992, Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) arrives in a remote area just north of the Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska and sets up a campsite in an abandoned bus. At first, McCandless is content with the isolation, the beauty of nature around him, and the thrill of living off the land. He hunts wild animals with a .22 caliber rifle, reads books, and keeps a diary of his thoughts as he prepares for himself a new life in the wild. Two years... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCandless then travels to the Colorado River and, though told by park rangers that he may not kayak down the river without a license, ignores their warnings and paddles downriver until he eventually arrives in Mexico. There, his kayak is lost in a dust storm and he crosses back into the United States on foot. Unable to hitchhike, he starts traveling on freight trains to Los Angeles, California. Not long after arriving, however, he starts feeling corrupted by modern civilization and decides to leave. Later, McCandless is forced to switch his traveling method back to hitchhiking after he is beaten by the railroad police. In December 1991, McCandless arrives at Slab City in the Imperial Valley region of California, and encounters Jan and Rainey again. There, he meets Tracy Tatro (Kristen Stewart), a teenage girl who shows interest in McCandless, but he rejects her because she is underage. After the holidays, McCandless decides to continue heading for Alaska, much to everyone s sadness. While camping near Salton City, California, McCandless encounters Ron Franz (Hal Holbrook), a retired man who recounts the story of the loss of his family in a car accident while he was serving in the United States Army. He now occupies his time in a workshop as an amateur leather worker. Franz teaches McCandless the craft of leatherwork, resulting in the making of a belt that details McCandless travels. • 3. Customer Satisfaction Literature Review 1. Literature Review 1.1 Customer Satisfaction 1.1.1 1.LITERATURE REVIEW This literature review explores the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty and how do these theories affect businesses in hospitality industry. Hence, there are many researchers that have studied about these two concepts that will help people to better understand about the two theories. Why does customer satisfaction is very important in business? This is because all businesses need customers and if the customer is satisfied with the item he or she bought, it will help to increase the market of the business itself. As that particular customer will help to try and promote the products to their relatives or friends. Customer satisfaction basically is the key objective in service operations representing an affective self evaluation based on price and quality trades off (Roest and Pieters,1997). There are few definitions about customer satisfaction according to different researchers. According to Rust and Olivier (1994), customer satisfaction can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Study indicates that satisfaction basically consists of cognitive and affective variables. Cognitive measures include disconfirmation and expectations (Oliver,1980), also perceived performance (Tse and Wilton, 1998). Other measures include equity and performance (Oliver and DeSarbo,1988), fairness (Oliver and Swan,1989), expectancy disconfirmation (Oliver and Burke, 1999), need fulfilment (Oliver, 1995), and price acceptance or desire to pay (Huber et al., 2000). This measurement can lead to the discovery of affective variables by trying to improve satisfaction. There are two affective variables that Westbrook (1987) found. One is positive affect the other is negative affect. He stated that both positive and negative affect are linked to post purchased word of mouth. • 4. Cultural Differences Between Food And Food In today s society of the United States, eating has become a staple activity among family and friends get togethers, holidays and sports activities. Food continues to prove itself to be a big part of one s religious identity . Throughout other areas of the world, people are eating a variety of different foods as a way of survival. In America, we would never think of eating these various types of foods as a means of survival. Foodhas become a key to survival as people rely financially on the resale of foods, as well as nutritionally to fuel one s body, and socially to entertain themselves, families and friends. Food proves itself to be a social distinction between the rich and the poor and their families around the world as they share a common similarity for their love of food. The various pictures in this assignment depict many cultural differences as well as diversities related to their food choices. The contrasts between the diets and cost of food for The Aboubaker, Ahmed, and Revis families are quite striking when one spends the time to analyze the photos. The first family in the assignment is the Aboubaker family. The picture shows the family is living in the Darfur province, of Sudan. The Aboubaker family is seen living in a refugee camp located in the desert sands. The climate in the region varies with extreme hot and dry spouts, while rainfall only comes during the wet season, which is only a short period of time. In the picture we can see that the family ... The Effects of Grazing and Trampling Behaviors of Large Sized Livestock on the Formation and Weathering Patterns of Soils Introduction Walter Coppinger, a Professor of Geosciences at Trinity College in San Antonio and long time observer of Montana geology, was the first person to describe to me the many problems of the western rangelands that have developed out of the over grazing of cattle. From a hilltop among the upland slopes of Whitehall, Montana, he pointed out a few patches of bare earth on the horizon and some gullying out of trails across the rangelands in the distance. Rangelands are areas of land on which livestock are left to roam and graze. Traditionally the great plains and rolling hills of the Western States have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different animal species that graze the rangelands of the world: bison in the grasslands of the Western United States, mountain goats in the Rocky Mountains, and herds of Caribou in Northwest Canada (Butler, 1995). In many cases, the actual effects that different animals have depends greatly on biological factors characteristic of their particular species, such as how large their populations tend to be, their average weight and how they distribute their weight when they walk or climb, feeding patterns, migration patterns, and other differences that depart too far from the focus of this essay to be considered in any great detail. For the purposes of this paper, unless otherwise specified, I will be considering the effects of cows, bison, and other cattle like livestock animals that tend to have relatively similar physical characteristics. The degree to which an area has been grazed is often loosely categorized as an area of light, moderate, or heavy grazing, with light indicating rangelands with the greatest surface area and fewest animals and heavy indicating smaller areas for larger populations. Again, these general terms may depend on the particular species being considered. Trampling and grazing on one topography type will not necessarily have the same effect as it will have on another. Most rangelands are found on uplands (lower, flatter land is more often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Osmoreceptors in the brain detects changes in cellular hydration, and increase their firing when dehydration is sensed. Dehydration of cells means high solute concentration outside cells, which causes loss of water from salt. Eating salty foods triggers osmotic thirst; also certain neurons can detect their own loss of water and then trigger osmotic thirst, which helps restore the normal state. Sodium ions spread throughout the bloodand extracellular fluid but do not cross the membranes into cells. • 8. The Film Analysis Of Dunkirk By Christopher Nolan The movie Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan captures the action and intensity of a war zone in a sandy beach in northern France. The criteria for any movie to exceed expectations would be to have a strong story arc, character development, music, suspense, special effects, authenticity to history, and realistic setting. Dunkirk meets all the criteria for a movie that s why it passed the $500 million mark this past weekend. For a historical movie, Dunkirk, exceeds the criteria for a successful movie because of it s focus on character development, being historically accurate, and being suspenseful. The fighter pilots risk their lives throughout the movie to protect their fellow soldiers before running out of fuel. The three citizens risking their lives step up because they feel like it s their duty. They grow as people because they have no fear going into war infested waters. Dunkirk is a true story that also has minimal exaggerated parts. John Broich from Slate said In terms of accuracy, it rates pretty highly. There are no big, glaring historical whoppers . The portrayal of the soldiers was accurate. During war soldiers had to deal with artillery fire, air assaults, and pure trauma and during the movie it was represented correctly. Nolan s idea for this movie was to represent the terrors of war and experiences soldiers had to deal with. Not everything was portrayed accurately but this is a movie and the audience needs to be entertained somehow. Although Tommy and Alex are character brought to life, soldiers would try anything possible to get on ships. Unfortunately, many shivered to death because of the fear of being trapped in a shipping ship. Points were exaggerated to serve a purpose however, the audience member can realistically create an image in their head about war and what it takes to survive and serve your country. For a movie that reaches two hours in length the audience member should be at the edge of their seat. It always crosses the back of the audiences members mind if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most are aware of the general details; that he resided in the Galilee and Judea regions, that his birth determined the turn of the first century, and that he interacted with various cultural and social forces. The parties with which he was involved were depicted frequently throughout the bible most notably the Jews, Gentiles, Sadducees, Romans, Zealots and Pharisees. They believed that their laws and spirituality should be a social force and thus were open to a doctrinal development of Traditions of the Fathers non biblical laws and customs believed to have been passed down through the generations. These teachings supplemented the written Torah and were part of what the Rabbis later would call the Oral Law. (Schiffman, 1994: 77) They considered each of the laws and tradition which were canonized in Pentateuch (444BCE) to be capable of being expanded to address new circumstances even going so far as to be reinterpreted to accord with uprising belief systems. New meanings would assure relevancy within society by allowing the Torah to be amended by this Oral Law, providing the Pharisees with the ability to adapt and develop in society, and become progressively popular and respected. They believed the Torah and their Tradition (Oral Law) to be of equal authority, and for any application of Oral Law to carry a binding force they must possess the same weight and fundamentals as the Torah. Simply put, it was the Torah As interpreted through the oral law (tradition) which counted (Aboth 3:12). • 12. Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five Essay I. Author Kurt Vonnegut s background had an endless influence upon his writing. In his early years, Vonnegut was a private in the 106th infantry division in World War II. He and five scouts were caught behind enemy lines, and then captured. They were held POWs and were beaten on various occasions. In 1945, they witnessed the fire bombing of Dresden, Germany. Kept during this time in a slaughterhouse, this is part of the inspiration for Slaughterhouse five. After being released from the Slaughterhouse, Vonnegut called Dresden utter destruction and carnage unfathomable . After that he narrates the story, but comes up at other various times in the book as this is I or this is me . He comes up then as for the reader to relate Billy Pilgrim to the author. The rest of the book is in third person omniscient. It mostly talks about Billy and his experiences, but sometimes minor characters thoughts are talked about too. Theme: There are a couple themes in this book. The first theme is the destructiveness of a massacre. This is displayed when the narrator says Everything is supposed to be very quiet after a massacre, and it always is, except for the birds. And what do the birds say? All there is to say about a massacre, things like Poo tee weet? (pg. 215 Vonnegut). The bird says this because the narrator is trying to get the point across that there is nothing good to say about a massacre, and really nothing at all to say about the pointlessness and pure destruction it causes. The second theme displayed in this book is the illusion of free will. • 15. Different Characteristics Of Forests, Grasslands And Savannas Grasslands/Savannas Savannas, also known as tropical grasslands, are open spaces where the vegetation is dominated by grass. They are found between forests and deserts, where there is the perfect amount of rainfall in order for this biome to survive. Savannas are located in South America, Africa, India, and Australia. They have warm temperature the whole year, and there are two different seasons, a dry winter that lasts 4 6 months, and a wet summer that lasts 6 8 months. Temperatures in this biome can climb above 90В° F during summer. And during winter, it usually falls to 64В° F. The average rainfall is from 20 50 inches per year. The dry season begins with violent thunderstorms that create strong winds. These factors often promotes the spread of fires during this season, which causes most animals to migrate to another area; most of the plants begin to die, with the exception of the ones that have underground storage organs to help them survive; and the rivers dry up. However, when the rainy season arrives, many types of grasses grow in the savannas and they easily survive seasonal fires; rivers flow freely; lakes fill up again; and the animals that migrated will come back to the savanna. Right Choices In Michael Lehmann s Heathers Asking a child which snack he prefers, a vegetable or something better suited for dessert, it is more than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against his parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing than an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too irresistible to pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is ubiquitous in media. This theme of a joyous life before death is seen in both the poem Death by Rainer Maria Rilke and the song We Might Be Dead Tomorrow by Soko. Although these two pieces follow the same theme, they are widely different in how they include poetic devices in the piece. Song and poetryare viewed differently considering that a song often focuses on the music behind the lyrics more than the lyrics themselves, whereas a poem is focused on using words and poetic devices to fulfill its purpose and theme. Unfortunately, the average grade being given to today s college student does not reflect the quality of the work submitted, and it is having a negative effect on students. Students end up using valuable grant and loan money taking developmental classes, because they received passing grades in core subjects when they should have failed. Teachers have adapted their grading system to reflect the under developed skills of the students. This practice handicaps students during their academic years, as well as their post graduation and entry into the workforce. When it comes to telling about wars it s important you make an impact on your readers, and this can be done in several ways. It s often seen writers use imagery to display the effects war had on not only the men themselves but their families also. Imagery is shown very effectively when it is said that people were shooting them in the back and shooting/ them more times necessary to actually kill them (Powers). The most common viewpoint of the warwas told from the stories of what actually place in war, and the killing aspect of it all. People were shot in the head (O Brien). Another way to uncover the effects of war was irony. They use irony to make the readers stop and think about the difference between what is expected and what is actually said. There have been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the problem. Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they planned ahead. With traffic in the city the way it is, you can t blame them. The indirect effect of congestion is traffic pollution. This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars, specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York Citys congestion problem is to decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would be viable in decreasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Machiavellian Folly in The Prince Essay Machiavellian Folly in The Prince In the annals of history, many individuals have contributed great works of literature, waxing philosophically on the meaning of life, death, and love. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote not on love or life, but on power: How to capture it, how to consolidate it, and how to defend it against all comers. His work has been talked about and dissected to the extent that his subject matter and methods have earned their own moniker: Machiavellian. Nonetheless, this great philosopher s works did not meet with unanimous approval. His own student, Thomas Hobbes, presented a very different account of politics. He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men: that they are ungrateful, fickle, pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger, eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli argues that man is precarious a being of dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with this analysis, and took it one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and perpetual desire for power, which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be satisfied with the power he has. Hobbes writes: ... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present, without the acquisition of more [power]. Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason dictate that he will do this by any means necessary even if it means killing everyone around him. Critics argue that Hobbes and Machiavelli are too pessimistic; but they would both beg to differ. To both Hobbes and Machiavelli, Aristotelian virtue is a deception; it can never be reached. Men do not want to be good; they want to lie, they want to cheat, and they want to kill. To expect otherwise would be contrary to their hostile nature. • 44. Sustainability Planning For Sustainable Policies Essay Addressing the challenges and opportunities in environmental policy making requires the analyses of various interweaving aspects which at times is almost impossible when utilizing a single tool under any given circumstance. The primary reason for sustainability planning in Forest Management, Wildlife Conservation and Rangeland Managementlies in ensuring natural resources serve the present as well as future population. However, it is impossible to convince the population that is being driven by economic needs to abide by sustainable policies without concrete reasons; this brings in the notion of science based decision making. Just in case a significant portion of the resources have been destroyed before the enforcement of the sustainable policies, a marketing solution would be employed to prevent further destruction as restoration is underway. Finally, a collaborative planning model would be applied to prevent recurrence of the incidences that led to destruction with the aim of conserving what is left by involving a larger crowd in decision making. In summary, sustainability cannot be attained without the input of scientific research, collaborative management, and marketing solution. One of these convictions is that the only way to feel alive is to feel pain and suffering, and the two choices in life are either lofty suffering or cheap happiness. The Underground Man ruins relationships with Liza through believing that he will not be able to have true happinesswith her and instead, it will all be fake. This thinking is completely irrational and does not allow him to achieve true happiness, as he does not choose to understand that that is a possibility in life. English Language By Chinua Ngugi II: In this section Ngugi speaks about how the English an imperialistic language that belongs to Europe dominates the local languages in the post colonial Africa. He asks to the reader that how did people become to be so feeble towards the claims of their languages on them and so aggressive in their claims on other languages, particularly the languages of their colonization. It is worth mentioning the words spoken by Chinua Achebe, is it right that a man should abandon his mother languagefor some one else s? It looks like a dreadful betrayal and produces a guilty feeling . Ngugi refers to the 1962 African writer s conference at Makerere University College in Kampala, Uganda: A Conference of African Writers of English Expression. Excluding writers who wrote in African tongues, it proceeded to discuss questions of what African literature is or could be, while accepting that it must be in English. This cruel poisonous paradox is summed up this way: The bullet was the means of the physical subjugation and language was the means of the spiritual subjugation (9).... When Mary was three years old, Anne and Joachim brought her to the Temple at Jerusalem, to fulfill the promise of Anne. Mary was left at the Temple and brought up there. Though there a few stylistic differences between the novella and the film, the two mediums of storytelling both remained quite true to the storyline. • 50. Summary Of Sara Bartman In this essay I attempt to unpack how black femininity was depicted as savage in 19th Century Britain. I do so by looking into the Sara Bartman discourse as the foundation of this argument. Herein I look at the important role Sara Bartman came to play in underpinning an imperialist mind set. In addition to this, I look at the how the exhibition of the savage was important in imparting genderspecificity to the dichotomy between the colonizer and the colonised. Before we can look into this discourse, it is important to look at the dominant masculinities as femininities are built in relation to masculinities. Firstly, we look at the hegemonic masculinity. This particular masculinity is the dominant or ideal form of masculinity by which masculinities are judged (Connell, 1987). These constructed ideals of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his modern rediscovery of Sara Bartman, he writes about her in the context of circuses and freak shows, although his account was, to say the least, markedly lacking in both racial and gender sensitivity (Abrahams, 1998:221). Altick goes further by referring to Bartman as savage , Hottentot and a heavy arsed heathen (Abrahams, 1998). These derogatory terms are problematic because he writes about her in the absence of evidence. This calls in to question Alticks objectivity and thus the accuracy of his account given. From Abrahams (1998) we see the notion of Bartman being a savage beast perpetuated by various writers. Through their writings they reinforce the idea of the black savage . We need to look at what they have done, not in a spirit of salacious inquiry, but in order to begin to dismantle the myths and see clearly their function in creating and perpetuating racial hierarchies (Abrahams, 1998: 222). • 51. My Lai Massacre Summary The explanation of why upright people execute wrongful actions is interpreted in multiple ways. In The My Lai Massacre: A Military Crime of Obedience, Herbert C. Kelman, a professor of social ethics, and V. Lee Hamilton, a sociologist, discuss how the practice of authorization, routinization, and dehumanization are employed to carry out unethical actions similar to the My Lai Massacre. The American Law assumes that subordinates should be obeying orders; however, when linked to obeying superiors, moral principles become inoperative. Erich Fromm, a psychoanalyst, and the author of Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem, explains how the different types of mindset and authorities can be noticeably effective in whether one is obedient.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As US military expert Rod Powers explains how those who are military members who fail to obey their superiors risk serious consequences in Military Orders , and could relate to why Dawson and Downey were convicted for their crimes (Power). Required to follow orders, a soldier does not need to obey an unlawful order, but those who obey can be pinned with criminal prosecution and in this case, it matches with Dawson and Downey s situation where they taped and tied up Santiago (Power). Fromm can conclude that irrational authority is used by using a comparison between a slave and their master; the superior wants the best they can draw from their subordinate and tries to exploit them, leading them to control with force (Fromm 126). When it comes to deciding whether or not an order is ethical, it is also the soldier s call to believe the legitimacy of the order; according to Saul McLeod, who is a psychologist and the author of Obedience to Authority, obedience is a form of social influence by responding to a direct order from another individual (McLeod). Although Col. Jessup urged for no one to touch Santiago, Kendricks directly ordered Dawson and Downey to treat him with a Code Red, going against Col. Jessup s orders. Numerous situations occur where two people will discuss the same topic, but would contradict each other. It is easy to say I was only following orders to justify one s self to explain their reasoning, but that statement, also known as the Nuremberg Defense, is not going to save a person every time. Yes, Dawson and Downey were only following orders, but did they ever take a moment to question whether it was the right action and for a sensible reason? Probably not in consideration that it is a routine to follow a command because if they deny their superior s order, many consequences will follow. Kelman and Hamilton logically claimed that ...
