The Atomic Energy Of Canada Limited
Brief History (MICHAEL TABB)
Merriam Webster has defined reliability as: the extent to which an experiment, test, or measuring
procedure yields the same results on repeated trials .[1] As technology advances, so does the use of
computing and software in health services. With the onset of cancer, Atomic Energy of Canada
Limited (AECL) created a medical linear accelerator known as the Therac 25. The machines
responsibility is to accelerate and increase the energy of electrically charge atomic particles by the
introduction of an electric field focused by magnets. These accelerators are used to treat cancer
patients with radiation to remove malignant cancerous cells and tissue. The use of the machines
caused radiation overdoses between 1985 and 1987 causing loss of life and limb for patients in six
accidents.[2]
These six accidents began 3 June 1985 with a sixty one year old woman receiving her twelfth
treatment at Kennestone Regional Oncology Center in Marietta, Georgia. She had her breast
removed and lost the use of a shoulder and arm after feeling a tremendous rush of heat and red hot
sensation , while receiving follow up treatment for a malignant tumor removed from her breast in
that facility (Porrelo, A.). The second accident occurred at the Ontario Cancer Foundation clinic in
Canada on 26 July 1985 where a forty year old patient was in receipt of her twenty fourth Therac 25
treatment. During the treatment, the machine issued an H tilt error message. This prompted the

Elvis Presley Research Paper Outline
Page 1 Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 8th 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi to Vernon and
Gladys Presley. Shortly before Elvis was born, Gladys had delivered his stillborn identical twin
brother Jesse Garon. Elvis would grow up as an only child. After a successful birth, Gladys was
very weak and near death, so both her and Elvis were rushed to Tupelo hospital. Both Elvis and
Gladys would eventually recover, and upon returning home Gladys would become a very
protective mother. Not long after Elvis was born, Gladys would lose her mother when she was
only twenty three years old, and ironically Elvis would lose Gladys when he was twenty two. Just
like his mother, Elvis would lose his mother when they were both young adults. The Presley family

his performance of Teresa Brewer s, Till I Waltz Again with You. This was the event that Elvis
would mark as the beginning of his rise to fame. Elvis graduates high school on June 3, 1953 and
goes to work for M.B. Parker. Just a little more than a month after starting his new job, Elvis
would make his first recording on July 18th at Sun Studio. The two songs he recorded on his
demo were My Happiness and That s When Your Heartaches Begin. Elvis cut a second demo in

Freedom In Ender s Game
The Vietnam War was a long, costly armed conflict that pitted the communist regime of North
Vietnam and its southern allies. The war, was increasingly unpopular at home, ending with the
withdrawal of U.S. forces in 1973 and the unification of Vietnam under Communist control two
years later. More than 3 million people, including 58,000 Americans, were killed in the conflict.
Scott Card in his science fiction Ender s Game conveys that humans are free until their government
needs to protect its citizens, then drafts its young citizens into war. This government action seems
to pretty much sum up Colonel Graff s thinking, as to why he himself is involved. It is why he
pushes Ender to the boy s limits.
I agree with General Graff s approach because just as in the VietnamWar, Americans were free until
the government needed them to fight for our country. With this action, Graff takes on the limits of
human freedom because humans aren t free, ever, because the species force individuals to do
something. Early in the book, Ender pushes somewhat against this idea. Graff explains to Ender the

for his conception was so that he could hopefully be a great leader that would help save
civilization from the Buggers. And I still can t believe that he s a six year old child, but I think
you see it during his first night at the academy when he is crying for their parents. As the book
progresses, Graff goes on to explain his theory of the human species, which is basically this: as long
as the species survives, it doesn t matter if a little genius kid is happy all of us are tools for the

Theme Of Female Oppression In La Casa De Bernarda Alba
FEMALE OPPRRESSION IN LA CASA DE BERNARDA ALBA
Katarina Milosevic
In this essay, female oppression in La Casa de Bernarda Alba will be discussed and analyzed.
However, in order to be able to understand the importance of this theme and the impact it has had on
the play, one must first understand the role of female oppression in the Spanish society in the 1930s.
The 1930s were a period of many changes in Spain, especially because Francisco Franco started
ruling the country and the political problems that arose. Things slowly started changing for
women because of the foundation of Mujeres Libres, a female anarchist organization that fought
for female rights. Until then, the general view of women was that of Proudhon, which meant
that women were to be seen as reproducers whose role was to contribute to the society by taking
care of their household and their children . This was especially common in the rural areas of
Spain, where women could even be forced into arranged marriages against their will and almost
had no say in what happened to them. The main oppressor of La Casa de Bernarda Alba is actually

At this point in the essay, it is clear that social norms and customs have contributed to oppressing
female characters in the play, but there is another element which has not been mentioned before and
it is religion. Religion, in this case Christianity, promotes chastity and discourages sex before
marriage. To keep her daughters pure , Bernarda does not allow them to have a boyfriend or to

The Invention Of Television Has Impacted American Society
I. Introduction:
The first commercial to ever air in America was a 10 second ad for Bulova clocks and watches.
This commercial cost nine dollars. Today, a typical commercial costs around two hundred dollars to
a thousand dollars (Luckin). Both society and television have drastically changed from when
television was first invented to today. Few inventions have had as big of an impact on American
society as the television has. The invention of television has impacted American society positively,
because it helps spread information faster and influences the way people think about important
social issues, it provides cultural experiences and can help broaden viewer s perspectives, and it
entertains and brings communities together.
II. Background:
The invention of television did not happen overnight. Different experiments by various inventors
and scholars immersed in the fields of electricity and rado resulted in the development of the
basic technologies and ideas that later became the groundwork for the invention of television (
The History Of Television ). Paul Nipkow was one of the first inventors that had a huge impact on
the future invention of television. Paul discovered television s scanning principle, which is when
the light intensities of small portions of an image are analyzed and transmitted. In 1884, Nipkow
invented a rotating disk, with one or more spirals of openings that passed across a picture, called
the Nipkow disk ( Paul Gottlieb Nipkow ). This invention

Company s Internal And External Analysis
Consulting Letter
Dear Mr. Jefferies, After considering the company s internal and external analysis, it is clear that
Abercrombie and Fitch need to implement a new strategy for future success. Considering
consumer trends, and the company s current outlook, changes need to be made. The strategies I
recommend are to market the company as a more receptive brand in the United States as well as
looking to penetrate international markets while closing down underperforming US stores. With
consumer trends of online shopping being on the rise, Abercrombie and Fitch can look to close
down those stores who are not meeting sales quotas. Your firm is already considered one of the

Considering that international expansion incurs lots of capital costs, it is a strategy that you should
slowly implement and keep taking note on the returns of investment. The benefits the company will
receive include sustainable profit growth, increase market penetration and improvement of your
brand s reputation.
Key Issues Abercrombie and Fitch Co. is a men and women s clothing company which is built on
the philosophy of not trying to be all things of all people, meaning, not everyone is able to
identify themselves and relate to the brand. Their current CEO, Mike Jefferies, is faced with the
issue to decide whether the firm should expand its direct to consumer and international sales. By
doing so, he would be looking to close down domestic stores in the United States. This issue have
appeared due to the company missing Wall Street s estimates in 2011, thus experiencing a drop in
shares. Although sales have increased domestically, the company had to use price discounts in
order to drive those sales, thus lower gross profit, and creating an unsustainable strategy for the
future. As a result, he ponders whether to close down the lower yielding domestic stores and
concentrating on online and international expansion.
Internal Assessment

Life Is Not Just About The Destination
The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments that you spend smiling with
someone you care about. Anonymous. The wisdom in this quote is ageless. Life is not just
about the destination; it is about the journey and who you spend it with. I would argue against
the quote and say it s not only about the people who can smile with you, but those who stand
next to you in hardship and struggle will give you the greatest reward. The following story
details how I found such a group of people. It is crucial in life to find someone who will share in
the small moments with you because in the end it is the small moments that you will remember
the most. (2)Smack! I felt the thundering impact across my back as Peyton lifted one of my legs

he had mastered that year. Winded, my body moved more out of instinct than conscious thought.
I immediately rolled to my belly, based up and then threw myself into a somersault across my
right shoulder, also known as a Granby roll. Peyton floundered after me as I stood, turned, and
took a reaction shot with the speed of lightning. As I lifted him into the air in a double leg
takedown, it was his turn to feel the pain of the all but soft mat below. Coach blew the whistle to
signal everyone to take a break and I helped Peyton up as our teammates and brothers headed for

The Special Operations Force (SOF) Imperatives prescribe key operational requirements that
Special Forces Soldiers must incorporate into their mission planning and execution for the greatest
chance at mission success. The Ugly American is a fictional book first published in 1958 that offers
an insight to American arrogance, incompetence, and corruption, but bears a remarkable
resemblance of how America stills thinks and functions abroad today. The book portrays characters

their duties. A number of these characters served in key positions that could have made a difference

This understanding and pre planning is something that we do during a Pre Deployment Site
Survey (PDSS). From personal experience, I admit that detachments that I have served on weren t
as prepared as Finian. Our PDSS has returned to the detachment with questions left unanswered
and I attribute that to a lack of prior understanding of the environment. If prior research is not
conducted to understand the full spectrum, there is no way that a thorough site survey can occur.
This can lead to an ill prepared deployment and risk damaging rapport with the host nation.
Another imperative that Father Finian displayed was his ability to ensure legitimacy and
credibility with the local population. He did so not by showing up as the educated,
knowledgeable, and powerful American, but by making himself a peer amongst the locals. Finian
knew there were three things that had to happen rather quickly: Find a courageous Catholic, learn
the local language, and build an immunity to the local cuisine and water. Finding another Catholic
is an obvious must; however, learning the local language and eating the local fare is an imperative
that Americans are doing less of as the years go by. Learning the language and eating the food
should be an obvious necessity but that s not the case. Some Americans have the arrogance that
English is the superior language of the world and that others should strive to learn it. I say this
because one of those Americans

A Brief Look at Miley Cyrus
This topic gave me some struggle, I couldn t really think of anyone that wasn t a family member.
Then this morning I was looking up someone who I think is just all the she can be. I don t know
her personally because she is famous, but when I thought about I realized I look up to her for
what she has become and what she was. Over the past few years she has become herself, she let
go of the control people held over her and wanted a change so she made one. I don t want to give
away who they are quite yet, but I will say this, while most people don t agree with who she has
become or the things she s done, I can see she has really become her. You can tell in her smile,
the way she walks with attitude, and even in her songs. The day that she decided to change I
think was the biggest day in her career, she got so much attention because she went from being a
child star to being someone who some people didn t want to associate with. She is growing up
with her fans though, if a normal girl had gone to her hair stylist and said cut it all off no one
would care, but since she famous it s a big deal. She was ready for a change though and she was
ready to find herself. If you don t know whom I m talking about yet, its Miley (Destiny) Hope
Cyrus. Judge me if you want, but when I watched her document from the past few years she s
grown so much. And it inspires me to not conform to who people want me to be. She s finally

The Pond Is Healthy Or Unclean Essay
Introduction ~ Throughout the course of about a week, the 9th grade class at CEEC took
samples of the pond at UNCC for an experiment to determine whether or not if the pond is in a
safe or in a harmful environment and if the pond is healthy or unclean. University of North
Carolina Charlotte and its health is an important factor to the survival of the animals around it.
North Carolina is a southern US state with landscape ranging from the atlantic ocean to the
appalachian mountains. Charlotte is the state largest city it is home to the NFL s Carolina
Panthers and the Nascar Hall of Fame UNCC s campus has a early college program named the
Charlotte Engineering Early College, with a pond located to the left of CEEC.This pond is the
home to many animals such as fish, ducks, tadpoles, canadian geese, turtles, and cattail, and is a
source of water for the university. In order to be able to use this water, the pond health must be
healthy. However, what makes a pond really healthy?
Pond health is determined by its pH levels, its levels of biodiversity, its dissolved oxygen levels, its
temperature, its range of tolerance, its air temperature, and its amount of nitrogen. In order for a
pond to be healthy it must have the correct amount of each on of these things.
One significant factor to pond health is pH. pH stands for hydrogen of power, which is the
measurement of the hydrogen ion in the experiment you have to complete. pH is normally scaled

The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage
each playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete
creative control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. Eventually grossing $245

To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two
thirds of its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot
exposition, character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like
identity. While there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t
like their action leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an
interesting subtext. How much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And,
if we re given the face of another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t
explored too deeply, but, to Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp;
Michael Colleary), they are addressed.
Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities.
Sean Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down
one particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns.
Six years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. Since
then, a thirst for revenge has driven the FBI agent to pursue Troy with a single minded
relentlessness that has alienated both his wife (Joan Allen) and his teenage daughter (Dominique
Swain). When the latest

Understanding The Limitations Of A Person With Mcardle s...
In 2005, my husband was forced to retire from a job at Georgia Pacific. This was a job that he
had been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason
that we knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of
us not knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many
doctors on many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a
new doctor, a neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband,
you have McArdle s disease. It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped
and I was not sure what we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with
McArdle s disease is the best way to live with it.
What is McArdle s disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000
persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle s
disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is
the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar).
People who have McArdle s disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very
healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective
gene. This is called autosomal recessive inheritance pattern ( McArdle s Disease Overview Facts
June 2014). You are born with the disease but some

Analysis Of The Film Notorious
Any avid Hitchcock fan has undoubtedly seen the film Notorious. Notorious tells the story of
Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman) who gets recruited by government agent Devlin(Cary Grant) to
infiltrate the house of known nazi supporters in the hopes of uncovering their master plan. At the
end of the movie, the final shot is Alexander Sebastian(Claude Rains) walking back to his group of
nazi supporters, denoting his demise is soon to follow. However, what the filmdoesn t show is what
will happen with the relationship between Devlin and Alicia, which fluctuates throughout the
movie. This uncertainty has been under constant debate among viewers as to whether or not these
lovers were meant to last, or if the lovefor each other will soon fade. While some people believe
their love will not last since the they are polar opposites of each other and through some cinematic
choices in the film, such as the long kiss they share in the beginning of the movie, I believe that by
looking at the narrativestructure of their relationship, as well as cinematic choices in relation to the
development of the plot, you can see that their love is indeed, meant to last.
In all conventional films, there is a cinematic formula most pictures live by. All conventional film
follows a three act structure; The first act being an introduction of characters and conflict, the
second act is when the complications arise, causing there to be a setback or additional decision, and
ultimately the third act, where

Character Analysis Of King Kong
King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are
feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and
makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s
motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such
as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While
writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love
story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between
Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it
challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that
shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout.
Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is
feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the
characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the
ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers
describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates
imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog,
they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is
when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re
going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it.
The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex
character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and
destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as
himself usually does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is
shown is when Ann and Kong have their first real

A heartbeat that is too fast is called tachycardia. A heartbeat that is too slow is called bradycardia
(National Institutes of Health, 2011). Digoxin toxicity, or digoxin digitalis starts with stomach
pain, nausea and vomiting, visual disturbances, and bradycardia. These symptoms can be
mistaken for the cold or flu. It is important to report any of these symptoms along with a decreased
heart rate less than sixty or an increased heart rate above one hundred beats per minute to the
doctor. If digoxin is being used with thiazide or loop diuretics, hypokalemia, or a decrease in
potassium is common. It is important not to take any beta blockers, or additional antiarrhythmic

the risk of arrhythmias and thyroid hormones decrease therapeutic effects. Licorice needs to be

Reflection Paper On The Catholic Funeral
Catholicism is one of the most popular religions in the world. One of my close family friends
passed away recently and considered himself to be an encultured part of the Catholic religion. I
chose to do my paper over this culture and attend this event because I was curious to see what it
entailed, being one of the most popular religions in the world. At first, I was very nervous to go to
the funeralbecause I had never been to anything Catholic related in my life. I was scared that I
would feel out of my comfort zone and not know what to do. I have attended a couple Christian
funerals in the past but never a Catholic one. At the beginning of the ceremony, we all greeted the
priest and the family and then continued on to our seats in an organized order while slow,
depressing, music played.
During the ceremony, I noticed four main aspects that seemed outstandingly different to my own
culture. The first one being that the priest would say a word and the Catholic people in the
crowd would say it in harmony with him at the exact same time he would say it. Second, I
noticed that he would say a whole quote that would be about a sentence or two long and then the
crowd would respond with a different quote which was also a sentence or two long. Third being
that the priest would say something and the people around us would either stand, kneel, or sit at
cues he would give. Finally, I noticed that during the ceremony he took time to light some sage like
material and wave it around

Play is a source of significant theoretical insight in anthropology and other disciplines (Huizinga
1970; Turner 1982). Feminist research is explicitly directed towards comprehending evolving
social factors affecting women. (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702) and also provides a framework for
understanding the contribution of women in sports to development (Birrell 2005:61). The
research in this proposal is rooted in this idea, and holds that women s participation in sports is a
feminist issue deserving of research and theory development (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702). Many
scholars in the study of sociology of sports use feminist theory to understand power and gender
relations (Birrell 2005:61; Coakley 2009:39). According to Smith [2010:98], issues of gender
are core to social life and this fact makes the concerns of masculinity and femininity essential.
Critical feminist theorists have stressed the importance of critiquing and changing the culture
and Pfister and Kristin 2013:208) the body and physicality of sports so that they represent the
perspectives and experiences of women as well as men (Maguire 2002:207; Coakley 2001:39).
The aim of feminist theory is to expose gender inequalities (Jarvis and Watts 2012:67) and
imbalance in terms of funding, programs, facilities, media coverage of women s sports (Messner
1988:207) and pay inequalities [Women s Sports Foundation 2011]. In a related

Trayvon Martin s Struggle In The US
I was fourteen when I first became aware of black struggles, particularly in the United States. An
innocent, 17 year old Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by neighborhood watch volunteer George
Zimmerman. Martin was shot plainly because he was Black and yet, Zimmerman walked away a
free man on the grounds of self defense. His death had ignited something in me. A teenage boy
was murdered because an ignorant, racist and self glorified man had garnered the sympathy of the
justice system. Truthfully, this was only a nudge to the direction. As sad it is, I was still naГЇve.
However, with every bullet that pierced through each innocent black body, the systemic racism that
had targeted the Black community for centuries had made itself known to me. More

Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their
twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence
for murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife
and her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age,
race, and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom.
The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The
Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical
black man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main
character and everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does
give advice, it is not his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a
lesson from a white character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common
black/white race relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative
stereotypes with positive realisms in cinema.
Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race
relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience
identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually

What Role Did Women Play In The Early Development Of...
Christianity in the Roman era appealed to both women and men. Its sense of inclusiveness,
forgiveness, and other aspects of it changed the lives of many Roman people. However, there were
many different qualities of Christianity that led women to convert. Particularly in Jesus s life and
some time after his life, women were key figures in the development and spread of the religion.
Women had the important role of helping develop Christianityand spreading Jesus s teachings, and
this was important because they aided the survival of Christianity.
Firstly, women helped Jesus in his search for the nature of the divine, and his teachings. In the early
development of Christianity, disciples were persecuted by the Roman Empire (Strayer, 174).

When doing rounds and sitting at the desk with Megan at Ross, I learned a lot about the specific
procedures needed to be done at each task. The atmosphere is different at each task, considering
that desk duty is more laid back while rounds consisted of being more alert with the surrounding

I began my shadowing at the front desk and I was surprised to hear that not all RAshave to work the

The first form of perseverance that Jason (and the argonauts) went through was the long boat ride
to fight off terrorizing monsters like the minotaur, two horned bulls that could ravage anything in

The law also prohibits retaliation against an individual who, in good faith, asserts his or her rights

Title IX was established around discrimination based on gender in 1972, and promotes equality

In the article of rites of passage, by Tsuji (2011) he discusses how Japan culture goes through
different rituals when reaching the point of death and afterlife compared to the United States.
When one speaks of old age in the United States, it refers to an individual who is ready to retire
or close to passing away. In recent research, some typical behaviors upon reaching this milestone
are when a person moves into a senior living capacity, the use of hearing aids, and one might
even give up driving. On the other hand, Japan s culture is different when referring to
celebrations and old age. The rites of passage rituals for those getting old start as early as sixty
years old. The reason Japanese celebrate his or her sixtieth birthday is that many did not survive
longer than his or her sixtieth birthday. In addition to Japanese culture of old age, they also
celebrate auspicious birthdays. This tradition is a sequence of celebrations that occurs different
time throughout his or her lifetime. The Japanese reflect back on the person s life for which they
have lived. Another critical fact is that these birthday celebrations were known to guide death
within rites of passage. The rites of passage continue beyond death into the afterlife with the
tradition of worshiping the ancestors. Some of the cultures of the Japanese afterlife include the

Septic Tank Research
Things A Contractor Looks For When Inspecting Your Septic Tank If you own a home with a
septic tank, then you know you have to pump the tank on a regular schedule. What you may not
know is that you should have the tank inspected regularly too, even if it isn t time to pump the
tank yet. If you live in an area that gets frequent small earthquakes, or if your area unexpectedly
has a quake, it s a good idea to get your tank inspected. While the tanks are durable and last for
years under normal conditions, they aren t indestructible. Here are some things the inspector
will look for. Cracks And Holes If your tank has a hole or cracks in it, then water can seep inside
the tank from the ground or waste can leak out of the tank. Both are bad situations that can lead
to problems with your tank and the drainfield. Holes are most common in old metal tanks. These
tanks aren t used much any longer, but if your home is old, it s possible it still has a metal tank.
These tanks can be dangerous since they rust and develop holes. That allows leaks to occur, but

Your septic system has two parts. One is the tank and the other is the drainfield. Both have to be
working properly for the waste to be processed from your house. When the drainfield goes bad,
there may be wet soggy grass in the area above it. There could also be sewage in your yard. If
sewage is leaking, the grass above the drainfield will be lush and darker green than the rest of

in a tank that is too full or damaged, it is worth the effort and expense to keep your septic tank in

between cleaning and serving the tank. You may want to consider having an inspection more often

Reaction Paper On Rutin
Abstract: Rutin (R) is a citrus flavonoid glycoside found in many plants having biological and
pharmacological effects such as anti oxidative, anti inflammatory, anti carcinogenic, and
antimicrobial, etc. In this work we have analysed the interactions of rutin with normal human
hemoglobin (HbA) using UV Visible spectroscopy, steady state fluorescencespectroscopy, time
resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular
modeling studies. Specific interactions of the flavonoid, Rutin, with human hemoglobin has been
confirmed from flavonoid induced static quenching which is evident from steady state fluorescence
as well as lifetime data. Molecular docking study reveals that apart from hydrogen bonding and...

does this is by using the spotted cow motif. Across the United States, the black spots on the white

trend of creating personalized systems. Each system is personalized for each client, from the
consumer to the large business customer. On average, 11,000 of these systems are built to order

helps to see if a child is in a preoperational phase, or in concrete phase of developing. The most
famous test is placing two lines of an equal number coins in front of a child. The lines need to be
made of the same size coins and must be arranged to be the same length. Then ask the child if one
line has more coins in the line, or if they had the same amount. Then stretch the second line of coins
to make the line longer, but without adding any more coins. Then ask which line has more coins,
the first line, that has the original length, or the second line, that has been stretched out to be longer.
I ran this coin conservation test with my mentees, and the results were astounding. I placed the two

Baroque Music
In researching musical eras that have greatly influenced music, there are two that have stood out.
The Baroque Era and Classical Era have generated artists that are well known. Both eras play an
important part of history with artists who have influenced artists of today. In this essay, there will
be a discussion on both types of musicand differences of each. This discussion will also include a
discussion on artists of this era.
Baroque is a musical era that falls between two other important eras in music. These two eras of
music are the Renaissance Era and the Classical Era. This is roughly a period between the 1600s
and 1750. The era of Baroque music was one that showed spectacular progress of knowledge with
scientific discoveries, mathematical advances, and philosophical explorations (Thornburg, 2014).
The music from this era can still be recognized today. Music from the Baroque period is the
earliest European music which we still generally recognize, whether it is the theme from
Masterpiece Theater, the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel s Messiah, or any number of other pieces
(Thornburg, 2014) . Most of the Baroque music of that time was written on demand for specific
occasions by those who thought of themselves as craftsmen instead of artists. In listening to this
style of music, there is a regular, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The name classical is applied to this period because of the art and literature, the keen interest in
and admiration for, and emulation of the classical artistic and literary heritage of Greece and Rome

also for entertainment. This era was dominated by three composers. They were Franz Joseph
Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven (Classical Period, 2014). The
advances in styles can be heard clearly in the instrumental forms such as the symphony, concerto,

1992 Presidential Election Campaign Analysis
During his acceptance speech in 1988, Republican Vice President, George H. W. Bush, said, read
my lips, no new taxes (Bush as cited by Matthews, 2004). Unfortunately, in the wake of financial
pressure President Bush in 1990 implemented a new tax on the American people. The failure to
honor this declaration brought into question President Bush s credibility and trust, and ultimately
followed him to the 1992 Presidential Election (Jamieson, 1996). However minimal the phrase, the
impact of his trustworthiness plagued Bush to the ballot box costing him reelection. The presence
of credibility, likability, and charisma in a political candidate are precious characteristics needed in
the electoral process.
These characteristics have the power to move voters in an electoral process and ignite action
(Borchers, 2005; Burrell, 2008; Conger, Kanungo Menon 2000; Choi, 2006; Goethals, 2005; Levine

Spencer Pote s Major Accomplishments
It s a joke about the letters in DNA; like, it s A, C, T and G, and they made every CAT into a cat

the levels of cortisol will increase within an individual. When this occurs, methyl groups
simultaneously accumulate on the genes responsible for the cortisol production, making it easier

amount of methyl groups on the genome will be carried over to the next generation, increasing the
risk of them having anxiety and mood

Monologue Lady Macbeth
In the first half of the monologue, the line And live a coward in thine own esteem is key
(Macbeth Act I Sc 7 li. 48). In these words Lady Macbeth toes the line of acceptability. She is a
woman in 1040 Scotland calling her respected warrior husband a coward. This is, in fact, the most
important word in this line; it is openly insulting and emasculating to Macbeth. This humiliation
along with similar instances throughout the scene, ultimately provides the pressure for Macbeth to
murder King Duncan. This particular line stands out due to its use of the word coward , a stark
and highly offensive insult, particularly coming as it does from a woman to her husband at this
time. It provides key motivation for Macbeth s murder of the king. In the

A Barbie For Every Body Summary
Women in the past and present have faced issues of diversity and inequality based on their good
looks. Now, Mattel, the maker of the Barbie, is striving to change an overdue icon of American
beauty, the Barbie doll. The article, A Barbie For Every Body, written by Eliana Dockterman, is
about the new styles of Barbies that have been created, and the social prejudice against the original
style of the Barbie. I chose this article out of pure excitement that Mattelis changing the Barbies to
look more like real American women. In America, self image and self esteem, are major priorities
for most ladies. Between the commercials on television, and the models in magazines, having the
perfect body is a message sent to all women young and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contributes to a healthier and more productive society.
I believe that Mattel does not only want to improve its profits, but is also experiencing a sense of
moral responsibility. According to An introduction to Human Services written by Marianne
Woodside and Tricia McClam, this can be defined as a commitment to rational thinking and an
orientation to moral principles (2015). Mass producers of children s products should consider the
moral impacts of their products, because children are influenced very easily, and it is important to
raise the next generation of kids with a sense of empowerment and individuality.
Although I do believe that the Barbie doll does affect a girl s self image, some people would
disagree. For example,
According to Mattel s Culmone, Barbie is not the problem: Girls view the world completely
differently than grown ups do. They don t come at it with the same angles and baggage and all
that stuff that we do. Clearly, the influences for girls on those types of issues, whether it s body
image or anything else, it s proven, it s peers, moms, parents, it s their social circles (Laura

Essay on Frankenstein and Blade Runner
The notion of humanity is a picture intricately painted using the ideals and morals that define us as
human beings in contextual society. The audience is influenced by the morals and values present
through techniques in texts to paint their own image of humanity. Our ideals and morals that differ
in texts through context, scrupulously shape our image of humanity
Despite different contexts, both Shelley s Frankenstein and Scott s Blade Runner enthrall the
audience in a journey to explore the inner psyche through the various perspectives that are drawn.

F was written in 1818, when a conversation between Shelley and Byron regarding the English

the lack of contextual humanity, paralleling four skin jobs walking . It contrasts integral facets of
human nature, through the detailed characterization developed through the narratives. The ideals

present in the texts. These shape our image of humanity depending on our interpretation. Shelley

  • 2. The Atomic Energy Of Canada Limited Brief History (MICHAEL TABB) Merriam Webster has defined reliability as: the extent to which an experiment, test, or measuring procedure yields the same results on repeated trials .[1] As technology advances, so does the use of computing and software in health services. With the onset of cancer, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) created a medical linear accelerator known as the Therac 25. The machines responsibility is to accelerate and increase the energy of electrically charge atomic particles by the introduction of an electric field focused by magnets. These accelerators are used to treat cancer patients with radiation to remove malignant cancerous cells and tissue. The use of the machines caused radiation overdoses between 1985 and 1987 causing loss of life and limb for patients in six accidents.[2] These six accidents began 3 June 1985 with a sixty one year old woman receiving her twelfth treatment at Kennestone Regional Oncology Center in Marietta, Georgia. She had her breast removed and lost the use of a shoulder and arm after feeling a tremendous rush of heat and red hot sensation , while receiving follow up treatment for a malignant tumor removed from her breast in that facility (Porrelo, A.). The second accident occurred at the Ontario Cancer Foundation clinic in Canada on 26 July 1985 where a forty year old patient was in receipt of her twenty fourth Therac 25 treatment. During the treatment, the machine issued an H tilt error message. This prompted the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Elvis Presley Research Paper Outline Page 1 Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 8th 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi to Vernon and Gladys Presley. Shortly before Elvis was born, Gladys had delivered his stillborn identical twin brother Jesse Garon. Elvis would grow up as an only child. After a successful birth, Gladys was very weak and near death, so both her and Elvis were rushed to Tupelo hospital. Both Elvis and Gladys would eventually recover, and upon returning home Gladys would become a very protective mother. Not long after Elvis was born, Gladys would lose her mother when she was only twenty three years old, and ironically Elvis would lose Gladys when he was twenty two. A couple months before his graduation, on April 9th 1953, Elvis performed in the Humes annual Minstrel show, it was here he stunned people with his performance of Teresa Brewer s, Till I Waltz Again with You. This was the event that Elvis would mark as the beginning of his rise to fame. Elvis graduates high school on June 3, 1953 and goes to work for M.B. Parker. Just a little more than a month after starting his new job, Elvis would make his first recording on July 18th at Sun Studio. The two songs he recorded on his demo were My Happiness and That s When Your Heartaches Begin. Elvis cut a second demo in January 1954 with the songs I ll Never Stand In Your Way and It Wouldn t Be the Same Without You. • 4. Freedom In Ender s Game The Vietnam War was a long, costly armed conflict that pitted the communist regime of North Vietnam and its southern allies. The war, was increasingly unpopular at home, ending with the withdrawal of U.S. forces in 1973 and the unification of Vietnam under Communist control two years later. More than 3 million people, including 58,000 Americans, were killed in the conflict. Scott Card in his science fiction Ender s Game conveys that humans are free until their government needs to protect its citizens, then drafts its young citizens into war. This government action seems to pretty much sum up Colonel Graff s thinking, as to why he himself is involved. It is why he pushes Ender to the boy s limits. I agree with General Graff s approach because just as in the VietnamWar, Americans were free until the government needed them to fight for our country. With this action, Graff takes on the limits of human freedom because humans aren t free, ever, because the species force individuals to do something. Early in the book, Ender pushes somewhat against this idea. Graff explains to Ender the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It merely asks us to be brilliant on its behalf. He did, but only by accepting that he is a tool, an indentured servant. The entire reason for his conception was so that he could hopefully be a great leader that would help save civilization from the Buggers. And I still can t believe that he s a six year old child, but I think you see it during his first night at the academy when he is crying for their parents. As the book progresses, Graff goes on to explain his theory of the human species, which is basically this: as long as the species survives, it doesn t matter if a little genius kid is happy all of us are tools for the survival of the ... Theme Of Female Oppression In La Casa De Bernarda Alba FEMALE OPPRRESSION IN LA CASA DE BERNARDA ALBA Katarina Milosevic In this essay, female oppression in La Casa de Bernarda Alba will be discussed and analyzed. However, in order to be able to understand the importance of this theme and the impact it has had on the play, one must first understand the role of female oppression in the Spanish society in the 1930s. The 1930s were a period of many changes in Spain, especially because Francisco Franco started ruling the country and the political problems that arose. Things slowly started changing for women because of the foundation of Mujeres Libres, a female anarchist organization that fought for female rights. Until then, the general view of women was that of Proudhon, which meant that women were to be seen as reproducers whose role was to contribute to the society by taking care of their household and their children . This was especially common in the rural areas of Spain, where women could even be forced into arranged marriages against their will and almost had no say in what happened to them. • 8. The Invention Of Television Has Impacted American Society I. Introduction: The first commercial to ever air in America was a 10 second ad for Bulova clocks and watches. This commercial cost nine dollars. Today, a typical commercial costs around two hundred dollars to a thousand dollars (Luckin). Both society and television have drastically changed from when television was first invented to today. Few inventions have had as big of an impact on American society as the television has. The invention of television has impacted American society positively, because it helps spread information faster and influences the way people think about important social issues, it provides cultural experiences and can help broaden viewer s perspectives, and it entertains and brings communities together. II. Background: The invention of television did not happen overnight. Different experiments by various inventors and scholars immersed in the fields of electricity and rado resulted in the development of the basic technologies and ideas that later became the groundwork for the invention of television ( The History Of Television ). Paul Nipkow was one of the first inventors that had a huge impact on the future invention of television. Paul discovered television s scanning principle, which is when the light intensities of small portions of an image are analyzed and transmitted. In 1884, Nipkow invented a rotating disk, with one or more spirals of openings that passed across a picture, called the Nipkow disk ( Paul Gottlieb Nipkow ). This invention ... Company s Internal And External Analysis Consulting Letter Dear Mr. Jefferies, After considering the company s internal and external analysis, it is clear that Abercrombie and Fitch need to implement a new strategy for future success. Considering consumer trends, and the company s current outlook, changes need to be made. The strategies I recommend are to market the company as a more receptive brand in the United States as well as looking to penetrate international markets while closing down underperforming US stores. With consumer trends of online shopping being on the rise, Abercrombie and Fitch can look to close down those stores who are not meeting sales quotas. Considering that international expansion incurs lots of capital costs, it is a strategy that you should slowly implement and keep taking note on the returns of investment. The benefits the company will receive include sustainable profit growth, increase market penetration and improvement of your brand s reputation. Key Issues Abercrombie and Fitch Co. is a men and women s clothing company which is built on the philosophy of not trying to be all things of all people, meaning, not everyone is able to identify themselves and relate to the brand. Their current CEO, Mike Jefferies, is faced with the issue to decide whether the firm should expand its direct to consumer and international sales. By doing so, he would be looking to close down domestic stores in the United States. This issue have appeared due to the company missing Wall Street s estimates in 2011, thus experiencing a drop in shares. Although sales have increased domestically, the company had to use price discounts in order to drive those sales, thus lower gross profit, and creating an unsustainable strategy for the future. As a result, he ponders whether to close down the lower yielding domestic stores and concentrating on online and international expansion. Internal Assessment Abercrombie and Fitch is a casual luxury clothing band based in the United States. They have 3 distinct brands (Gilly Hicks, Hollister, abercrombie kids) that ... • 10. Life Is Not Just About The Destination The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments that you spend smiling with someone you care about. Anonymous. The wisdom in this quote is ageless. Life is not just about the destination; it is about the journey and who you spend it with. I would argue against the quote and say it s not only about the people who can smile with you, but those who stand next to you in hardship and struggle will give you the greatest reward. The following story details how I found such a group of people. It is crucial in life to find someone who will share in the small moments with you because in the end it is the small moments that you will remember the most. (2)Smack! I felt the thundering impact across my back as Peyton lifted one of my legs and kicked the other out from under me. The single leg takedown was one of the many moves he had mastered that year. Winded, my body moved more out of instinct than conscious thought. I immediately rolled to my belly, based up and then threw myself into a somersault across my right shoulder, also known as a Granby roll. Peyton floundered after me as I stood, turned, and took a reaction shot with the speed of lightning. As I lifted him into the air in a double leg takedown, it was his turn to feel the pain of the all but soft mat below. The Special Operations Force (SOF) Imperatives prescribe key operational requirements that Special Forces Soldiers must incorporate into their mission planning and execution for the greatest chance at mission success. The Ugly American is a fictional book first published in 1958 that offers an insight to American arrogance, incompetence, and corruption, but bears a remarkable resemblance of how America stills thinks and functions abroad today. This understanding and pre planning is something that we do during a Pre Deployment Site Survey (PDSS). From personal experience, I admit that detachments that I have served on weren t as prepared as Finian. Our PDSS has returned to the detachment with questions left unanswered and I attribute that to a lack of prior understanding of the environment. If prior research is not conducted to understand the full spectrum, there is no way that a thorough site survey can occur. This can lead to an ill prepared deployment and risk damaging rapport with the host nation. Another imperative that Father Finian displayed was his ability to ensure legitimacy and credibility with the local population. He did so not by showing up as the educated, knowledgeable, and powerful American, but by making himself a peer amongst the locals. Finian knew there were three things that had to happen rather quickly: Find a courageous Catholic, learn the local language, and build an immunity to the local cuisine and water. Finding another Catholic is an obvious must; however, learning the local language and eating the local fare is an imperative that Americans are doing less of as the years go by. Learning the language and eating the food should be an obvious necessity but that s not the case. Some Americans have the arrogance that English is the superior language of the world and that others should strive to learn it. I say this because one of those Americans ... Then this morning I was looking up someone who I think is just all the she can be. I don t know her personally because she is famous, but when I thought about I realized I look up to her for what she has become and what she was. Over the past few years she has become herself, she let go of the control people held over her and wanted a change so she made one. I don t want to give away who they are quite yet, but I will say this, while most people don t agree with who she has become or the things she s done, I can see she has really become her. You can tell in her smile, the way she walks with attitude, and even in her songs. The day that she decided to change I think was the biggest day in her career, she got so much attention because she went from being a child star to being someone who some people didn t want to associate with. She is growing up with her fans though, if a normal girl had gone to her hair stylist and said cut it all off no one would care, but since she famous it s a big deal. She was ready for a change though and she was ready to find herself. If you don t know whom I m talking about yet, its Miley (Destiny) Hope Cyrus. The Pond Is Healthy Or Unclean Essay Introduction ~ Throughout the course of about a week, the 9th grade class at CEEC took samples of the pond at UNCC for an experiment to determine whether or not if the pond is in a safe or in a harmful environment and if the pond is healthy or unclean. University of North Carolina Charlotte and its health is an important factor to the survival of the animals around it. North Carolina is a southern US state with landscape ranging from the atlantic ocean to the appalachian mountains. Charlotte is the state largest city it is home to the NFL s Carolina Panthers and the Nascar Hall of Fame UNCC s campus has a early college program named the Charlotte Engineering Early College, with a pond located to the left of CEEC.This pond is the home to many animals such as fish, ducks, tadpoles, canadian geese, turtles, and cattail, and is a source of water for the university. In order to be able to use this water, the pond health must be healthy. However, what makes a pond really healthy? Pond health is determined by its pH levels, its levels of biodiversity, its dissolved oxygen levels, its temperature, its range of tolerance, its air temperature, and its amount of nitrogen. In order for a pond to be healthy it must have the correct amount of each on of these things. One significant factor to pond health is pH. pH stands for hydrogen of power, which is the measurement of the hydrogen ion in the experiment you have to complete. pH is normally scaled of based off of whether it is basic ... To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition, character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed. Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns. Six years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. This was a job that he had been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason that we knew of and he was having some other health problems. It was very upsetting to both of us not knowing the outcome about his health and now no income as well. We had seen many doctors on many different occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a new doctor, a neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband, you have McArdle s disease. It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My heart dropped and I was not sure what we were up against. Understanding the limitations of a person with McArdle s disease is the best way to live with it. What is McArdle s disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011). 1 in 100,000 persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr. Brian McArdle. McArdle s disease is caused by a missing enzyme, myophosphorylase C. This breaks down glycogen (which is the body form of stored energy) into glucose (sugar). People who have McArdle s disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they seem to be very healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents would have to have the defective gene. This is called autosomal recessive inheritance pattern ( McArdle s Disease Overview Facts June 2014). You are born with the disease but some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Analysis Of The Film Notorious Any avid Hitchcock fan has undoubtedly seen the film Notorious. Notorious tells the story of Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman) who gets recruited by government agent Devlin(Cary Grant) to infiltrate the house of known nazi supporters in the hopes of uncovering their master plan. At the end of the movie, the final shot is Alexander Sebastian(Claude Rains) walking back to his group of nazi supporters, denoting his demise is soon to follow. However, what the filmdoesn t show is what will happen with the relationship between Devlin and Alicia, which fluctuates throughout the movie. This uncertainty has been under constant debate among viewers as to whether or not these lovers were meant to last, or if the lovefor each other will soon fade. While some people believe their love will not last since the they are polar opposites of each other and through some cinematic choices in the film, such as the long kiss they share in the beginning of the movie, I believe that by looking at the narrativestructure of their relationship, as well as cinematic choices in relation to the development of the plot, you can see that their love is indeed, meant to last. In all conventional films, there is a cinematic formula most pictures live by. All conventional film follows a three act structure; The first act being an introduction of characters and conflict, the second act is when the complications arise, causing there to be a setback or additional decision, and ultimately the third act, where ... • 18. Character Analysis Of King Kong King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout. Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it. The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as himself usually does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is shown is when Ann and Kong have their first real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Digoxin toxicity, or digoxin digitalis starts with stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, visual disturbances, and bradycardia. These symptoms can be mistaken for the cold or flu. It is important to report any of these symptoms along with a decreased heart rate less than sixty or an increased heart rate above one hundred beats per minute to the doctor. If digoxin is being used with thiazide or loop diuretics, hypokalemia, or a decrease in potassium is common. It is important not to take any beta blockers, or additional antiarrhythmic medications, because it can lead to a slow and decreased heart rate. Sympathomimetics increase the risk of arrhythmias and thyroid hormones decrease therapeutic effects. Licorice needs to be avoided because it increases the risk of potassium depletion and high fiber meals can decrease the absorption of digoxin. If the patient feels that the digoxin is not working, causing flu like signs and symptoms, or feels muscle weakness, muscle cramps or constipation due to not enough potassium, the health care provider needs to be contacted immediately. One of my close family friends passed away recently and considered himself to be an encultured part of the Catholic religion. I chose to do my paper over this culture and attend this event because I was curious to see what it entailed, being one of the most popular religions in the world. At first, I was very nervous to go to the funeralbecause I had never been to anything Catholic related in my life. I was scared that I would feel out of my comfort zone and not know what to do. I have attended a couple Christian funerals in the past but never a Catholic one. At the beginning of the ceremony, we all greeted the priest and the family and then continued on to our seats in an organized order while slow, depressing, music played. During the ceremony, I noticed four main aspects that seemed outstandingly different to my own culture. The first one being that the priest would say a word and the Catholic people in the crowd would say it in harmony with him at the exact same time he would say it. Second, I noticed that he would say a whole quote that would be about a sentence or two long and then the crowd would respond with a different quote which was also a sentence or two long. Third being that the priest would say something and the people around us would either stand, kneel, or sit at cues he would give. • 21. Theoretical Ethnographic And Conceptual Background Theoretical Ethnographic and Conceptual Background Theoretical Background Feminism Play is a source of significant theoretical insight in anthropology and other disciplines (Huizinga 1970; Turner 1982). Feminist research is explicitly directed towards comprehending evolving social factors affecting women. (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702) and also provides a framework for understanding the contribution of women in sports to development (Birrell 2005:61). The research in this proposal is rooted in this idea, and holds that women s participation in sports is a feminist issue deserving of research and theory development (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702). Many scholars in the study of sociology of sports use feminist theory to understand power and gender relations (Birrell 2005:61; Coakley 2009:39). According to Smith [2010:98], issues of gender are core to social life and this fact makes the concerns of masculinity and femininity essential. Critical feminist theorists have stressed the importance of critiquing and changing the culture and Pfister and Kristin 2013:208) the body and physicality of sports so that they represent the perspectives and experiences of women as well as men (Maguire 2002:207; Coakley 2001:39). The aim of feminist theory is to expose gender inequalities (Jarvis and Watts 2012:67) and imbalance in terms of funding, programs, facilities, media coverage of women s sports (Messner 1988:207) and pay inequalities [Women s Sports Foundation 2011]. • 24. Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence for murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race, and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom. The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive realisms in cinema. Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the aftermath of the riot there were three major outcomes. One, the McCone Commission was set up by the government to study the riots. The McCone Commission found that people rioted because of unemployment, bad schools and education, and prior instances of police brutality (www.southcentralhistory.com). A second outcome following was an independent commission, chaired by former Illinois Gov. Otto Kerner, that investigated the causes of the rioting. The Kerner Commission issued its landmark report in 1968, concluding: Our nation is moving toward two societies, one black, one white separate and unequal (www.cnn.com). Another major outcome was the creation of SWAT teams. Whether used for their quality and bolster, or raised for their fancy magnificence, evidence of ancient Rome s love for the arch has lasted throughout history. A fascinating waterway system designed to carry fresh water from the surrounding highlands into the heart of the city, the aqueduct system was considered highly advanced for its time. My grandparents, specifically my mom s parents, have both played a large role in shaping me into the person I am today. My grandpa, or Pa , especially, has been more of a father to me than my own. He has held an essential role in my life, and is continually shaping me each day. My grandpa is a strong willed and old fashioned man. He likes to do things his way. In addition, he always works hard and provides for his family. Throughout the course of my rather short life, my grandpa has taught me many lessons. Here are three stories that stick out to me the most. They taught me to be adventurous, to work hard, and to get back up after failure. The whole family was there, as my grandpa decided to make a big purchase. He was buying a 2005 Chevy SSR convertible, and five year old me was ecstatic. After a long night of waiting for all the details to be worked out, the car was his. Me, being the bratty kid I was, jumped in and said, I get the first ride! On my first ride, I remember the roar of the engine. That sounds like kitties purring. I said. My grandpa laughed and said, You are right. Those are kitties! Both eras play an important part of history with artists who have influenced artists of today. In this essay, there will be a discussion on both types of musicand differences of each. This discussion will also include a discussion on artists of this era. Baroque is a musical era that falls between two other important eras in music. These two eras of music are the Renaissance Era and the Classical Era. This is roughly a period between the 1600s and 1750.
