The Commerce Clause And Its Effect On Interstate Commerce...
The Commerce Clause in Article 1, Section 8 states that Congress has the power to regulate interstate
commerce itself as well as the power to regulate local commerce if that local commerce has a
substantial economic effect on interstate commerce. When Congress regulates an intrastate activity,
there is a test that is used by the Supreme Court that determines whether Congress actually has the
right to regulate this intrastate activity with some sort of economic effect. The Commerce Clause test
is one that also goes on to explain that it is not just about one instance where if there is a substantial
economic effect on interstate commerce, but as a whole having a substantial economic effect. Also, if
the activity does deal with interstate commerce that has an economic effect, then Congress has the
ability to regulate wages and any other instance of activity which includes all workers even if the
workers do not produce the commerce. Section 1001 of the PSA states Congress intention to establish
a nationwide program to protect the public from the adverse effects of tainted and contaminated
pharmaceutical products. Section 5001 of the PSA establishes licensing and pharmaceutical
production education requirements for individuals employed by any pharmaceutical producer and sets
maximum hours such individuals can work. One could then argue that the Supreme Court is allowed
to say that Section 5001 of the PSA is within Congress power to set maximum hours and make people

Film Contributions of the Sixties Essay
Film Contributions of the Sixties Beginning roughly with the release of Stanley Kubrick s Dr.
Strangelove: Or How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb in 1964, and continuing for about the
next decade, the Sixties era of filmmaking made many lasting impressions on the motion picture
industry. Although editing and pacing styles varied greatly from Martin Scorcesse s hyperactive pace,
to Kubrick s slow methodical pace, there were many uniform contributions made by some of the era s
seminal directors. In particular, the Sixties saw the return of the auteur, as people like Francis Ford
Coppola and Stanley Kubrick wrote and directed their own screenplays, while Woody Allen wrote,
directed and starred in his own films. Kubrick, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These sequences are a result of a film, which for most of its run time does not presented the subjective
vision of any one character. In stylistic and visual terms, there is a movement from the three
dimensional style of the film s first half to the flatter, more abstract visual style of the Star Gate
sequence. The film s movement towards abstraction can be understood both in visual and narrative
terms (Falsetto, 115).
2001 s presentation of details from the Dawn of Man sequence, to later space travel scenes are shot
with complete conviction and impeccable detail. The viewer believes that the world might have
actually looked like what Kubrick presented it as, several million years ago, and the depiction of space
travel is just as convincing. The use of models, front projection, the slow editing techniques and
camera work all help to create a more complete illusion (Falsetto, 141).
If 2001 was presented almost completely objectively, than Kubrick s next film, A Clockwork Orange
(1972) was presented almost completely subjectively. This may have been in part due to the
constraints of the original novel by William Burgess, but nonetheless the film is told from the point of
view of its central character, Alex. When Alex is not speaking on camera, he can often be heard as a
voiced over

Imagery And Diction In Shakespeare s Sonnet 138
The Sonnet 138 is a poem by William Shakespeare. In the poem, Shakespeare uses imagery and
diction to describe the speakers mistress to the reader. With the utilization of such techniques,
Shakespeare is able to incorporate the speakers personal qualities as rude, honest, and genuine.
Throughout the poem, the speaker is interpreted as rude by the readers because of the way he draws
out his mistress. The speaker says, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun / If snow be white, why
then her breasts are dun (1 3). As the speaker uses imagery to illustrates his mistress eyes, he is saying
that they are not bright nor do they shine the way the sun shines. When the speaker describes her
breast as dun, he portrays them as dull and brownish. If the speaker has a mistress, would it not be
with someone who he finds beautiful; someone whose eyes do shine like the sun and has breast as
beautiful as the snow? Describing her features as the opposite of these characteristics build the reader
up to conclude that the speaker is both a rude and honest person. ... Show more content on

He says, And in some perfumes is there more delight / Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks
(7 8). The speaker uses diction to describe his sincerity about his mistress breath. He does not expect
her to her breath to smell the way flowers do. The speaker also says, I grant I never saw a goddess go /
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground (12). In these lines the speaker lets the reader
know that his mistress walk is not elegant as he imagines a goddess walk, but the complete contrary.
Throughout the end of the poem the reader begins to understand that the speaker is more honest and
genuine than what he began to come off

Eva 23 Reflection
Have you ever been in a life threatening situation where you re so anxious where clear thinking is
necessary. What if water filled up your helmet and you were drowning in space? On July 16 and
Italian astronaut named Luca Parmitano felt water in his helmet that quickly increased making it
almost impossible to breath. He had just made it back to ISIS before he drowned. Luca wrote EVA 23
a narrative describing the deathly conflict in 1st person point of view. An article called The Huffington
Post explained Lucas situation threw view of other people in 3rd person point of view. 1st person
point of view allowed readers to better understand Lucas thoughts and feelings as his life flashed
before his eyes, where as 3rd person point of view provide Lucas emotions and how felt through the
experience.
In EVA 23 the perspective used was 1st person and using this Point of View gave readers a chance to
understand the thoughts and feelings of Luca, the character actually experiencing the plot. Initially,
Luca showed his feelings when he describes, The sun sets and my ability to to see already
compromised by the water completely vanishes, making my eyes useless; but worse than that, the
water covers my nose a really awful sensation that I make worse by my vain attempts to move the
water by shaking my head . Luca explains the feel of how the water felt when it touched his nose by
using the words, awful sensation . This is explaining what he was feeling and while the water

Stamp Act Dbq Essay
Beginning in the year 1765 the British began taxing the colonies, as a result of war debt, yet this only
put a stress on the relationship between the two, due to the colonist s belief that they were not being
directly represented in the British parliament. The first act that was made to raise money and anger
was the Sugar Act. The Sugar Act was created in 1764 and it increased the tax on sugar that was
imported from the West Indies. The colonies responded to this act with bitter protests. Due to these
protests Britain lowered the duties substantially. Then in 1765 the Stamp Act was passed certifying
payment of tax on all sorts of legal and commercial documents (Document 1). This act was responded

The Rise and Fall of Class in Britain
INTRODUCTION Beyond Class Forward to Class? The rise and fall of class in Britain is both an
allusive and ironic phrase, totally correct yet also at least half mistaken. It is allusive (and correct)
because, during the last twenty years or so, the once fashionable and widely accepted view that class
structure and class analysis provide the key to understanding modern British history and modern
British life has been disregarded by many historians and abandoned by almost all politicians. Yet it is
also ironic (or mistaken), because it remains a generally held belief, not just in Britain but around the
world, that class, like the weather and the monarchy, is a peculiarly and particularly British
preoccupation. It certainly has been in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In trying to understand and explain the evolution of past societies, Marx believed it was essential to
deal not just with the politics of their ruling elites but also with the histories of their whole
populations. But how were these whole populations to be encompassed and described in a
comprehensive and convincing way? What were the abstract concepts and collective nouns he thought
it appropriate to employ for this purpose? Marx s solution which proved exceptionally influential was
to classify individuals in collective groupings according to their different relations to the means of
production. This enabled him (and his followers) to place everybody in one of three categories:
landowners, who drew their unearned income from their estates as rents; bourgeois capitalists, who
obtained their earned income from their businesses in the form of profits; and proletarian workers,
who made their money by selling their labor to their employers in exchange for weekly wages. For
Marx, these were the three fundamental, constitutive classes of human society, and it was in the
conflicts among them, which had raged unabated

Mission 33284 Research Paper
June 3, 1986 an adroit group of astronauts went on Mission 33284: Journey to Mars. They went on
this trip in search of life on Mars, or at least evidence of life on Mars. Five of them set out on this
precarious journey to space.. Not a single one returned home. No bodies were discovered, no calls
were sent back to base, not a single clue was given as to what happened; it was just nothing. A full
investigation was conducted and it was concluded that something happened to the engine and they fell
into oblivion. December 8, 2016, 30 years later, another set of astronauts were chosen to take part in
Mission 33284 once again. The fortunate group of 6 were: Kamila Hernandez, Jackson Sky, Linda

For a moment the ship stayed just floating in space then it began its steep descent into the deep dark
trenches of space. The ship fell for what felt like years until it finally crashed on a hard surface.
Kamila, who had bloody nose and left leg was completely shattered, looked around at the now
wrecked ship. The entire back of the craft was flattened the only that was visible was the long trail of
blood trickling down. Kamila slowly crawled to the intercom and dialed 33284 on the intercom.
Nothing happened. She dialed again and again and again and again and once more and another, but...
nothing happened. She sat staring at the blank intercom in complete disbelief then she began to sob.
Now realizing she was stranded in space with no one to help, and little oxygen left she began to sob
harder and harder until she began hyperventilating. While wiping her tears something caught her eye,
there was a piece of a spacecraft outside. But it wasn t a piece of her spacecraft... it was another

Calypso and Circe in Homer s Odyssey Essays
Calypso and Circe
The islands of Circe and Calypso in Homer s Odyssey are places where Odysseus most challenging
problems occur. In contrast to battles with men, Cyclops, or animals, sexual battles with women are
sometimes much more difficult to win. These two female characters are especially enticing to
Odysseus because they are goddesses. Though it is evident that Odysseus longs to return to Penelope
in Ithaka, it sometimes appears that he has lost vision of what life was like with a wife, a son, and with
thousands of people who regard him as King. Although his experiences on the islands of these
goddesses were similar in that he was retained from Ithaka for the longest periods of his adventure,
these goddesses and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first it appears as though the only reason Odysseus sleeps with Circe is to regain his companions,
but she easily persuades them to stay. And what s even worse is the fact that Odysseus isn t even the
first one ready to go. His men are the ones who urge him to leave: What ails you now? It is time to
think about our own country . So though at a glance it appears that Odysseus is merely succumbing to
Circe s schemes for reasons related to their health and well being, if we read between the lines, we
soon begin to realize that Odysseus is weak in the voracious hands of lust.
Odysseus arrives on Calypso s island alone, after the loss of his men and ship. Calypso rescues him
and loves and cares for him in her cave. At first, it seems like Odysseus doesn t seem much to mind
her taking care of him, but over time it is plainly evident that he is unhappy with her. When Hermes
arrives on Calypso s island to give her the message from Zeus to release Odysseus, he is bawling on
the beach a day long activity for him. Calypso is holding him with her by force; she has no
companions to help him back to Ithaka, nor has she a ship to send him in. Athena pleads with Zeus to
give Odysseus good fortune, saying that he lies away on an island suffering strong pains in the palace
of the nymph Kalypso, and she detains him by constraint, and he cannot make his way to his country,
for he has not any ships by him, nor any companions who can convey him back

Dreams And What They Mean
Dreams And What They Mean
Dreams have broader representation than languages can provide. The symbols of our dreams are
deeper expressions than we can come up.
Dreams are lower base layer of processing that cannot easily be interpret in ordinary language.
Since all forms of languages are defined by their limitation, they can only represent a subset of the
messages dreams can convey, and they go much deeper than language. People become bewildered
when they cannot understand the meaning of a dream, simply because they don t have the right skills
to recognise what they express; it is not everyday occurrence they can relate.
Learning to understand your dream is a skill you must learn, no different than learning to speak a
language.
Like any language, they can provide a doorway into your unconscious mind, and how to reach into
your dreams for your benefit. Nobody understands your dreams better than you, and only you can give
a better explanation to their hidden meaning. Since the dream is represented to only you in its vivid

Marginalization Of Felons In Michelle Alexander s The New Jim
With no doubt, mass incarceration has produced broken people from a broken system. What breaks the
heart even more is knowing that there are collateral consequences that follow these ex prisoners
throughout the rest of their life. Those who come out of the incarcerated system struggle to get back
on their feet due to discrimination. Marginalization of felons can be found anywhere specifically in
jobs, housing, and even in debt that they cannot afford. Iris Marian Young introduces the birdcage
metaphor, where one wire of the cage represents racism. However, there are many wires that create
racism, and each of them have different approaches in keeping the bird, or the disadvantaged, trapped
in the cage. Michelle Alexander s book, The New Jim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simply, being labeled a felon restricts the individual from several aspects in life. Alexander states that
they are unable to drive, get a job, find housing, or even qualify for public benefits, [they] lose their
children, their dignity, and eventually their freedom (143). Felons are marginalized from society. They
are unable to obtain resources to help themselves due to collateral consequences. Particularly, under
the category of collateral consequences, finding a job in order to support themselves financially is a
challenge. When applying for a job, felons are usually avoided in the pool of applicants. Before they
even check the box that signifies that they are a felon, the concept of legal discrimination is applied to
the surface. Alexander introduces the strategy of the negative credential in the job market. Employers
are legally allowed to discriminate people from being employed based on criminal status and skin
color. Black men who have not committed crimes have the same chance of being rejected as those
who have committed one. Before considering on hiring, employers have a preconceived image about
black men being criminals, even if one has a clean record. The metaphor that Young uses about the
birdcage becomes parallel to one of the aspects of the collateral consequences, which is legal
discrimination in the job market. Alexander uses a boxed in analogy for a job application for felons,
and Young s metaphor of being stuck in one place, hence the birdcage being a box, aligns with
Alexander s vision. With discrimination on a criminal status towards black men, it is difficult to find a
job. Without a job, they cannot support themselves in the world because there are only so many
options. Considering that they also come out of prison with almost nothing, the societal level they are
in progresses lower as time goes on. With no money, they are unable

The Theme Of Indecision In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
To be or not be that is the question. That is the question Hamlet is tormented by throughout the play
Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Should I live? Should I die? Should I take revenge for my father s
death? These are all the internal struggles Hamlet is trying to combat within himself. Also, Hamlet
tends to have a conflict with every member of the play. His indecision is followed by his inaction. The
reason for this struggle with indecision can be based on many factors life presents for Hamlet.
At the beginning of the play, Hamlet spoke to a ghost which was his father, the dead king. The king
confessed that Claudius, the king s brother that is now married to Hamlet s mother, killed him. Hamlet
s first soliloquy (1.2) reveal Hamlet s melancholy towards his mother s actions, Why, she would hang
on him as if increase of appetite had grown by what it fed on, and yet, within a month let me not on t;
frailty, thy name is woman . The use of this metaphor indicates Hamlet s anger towards his mother for
her lack of loyalty to his father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

imagery when Hamlet is told, Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder . Hamlet devotes himself
to avenging his father s death, but, because he is thoughtful by nature, he delays, entering into a deep
melancholy and even apparent madness. Hamlet embodies a deep sense of self doubt, But I am pigeon
livered, and lack gall to make oppression bitter or ere this (2.2). This metaphor is evidence that Hamlet
s thought process decreases the possibility of the accomplished task for his father resulting in

Cryptography and the Issue of Internet Security Essay...
High level encryption or cryptography is used in a number of applications ranging from those which
impact national security to those which are more mundane. Essentially, cryptography is the
methodology of encoding information so that one s privacy is ensured. This is particularly important
when it comes to transactions which occur over the Internet. The risk of individuals gaining access to
personal information or information which is critical to a country or a nation over the Internet is a very
real one. The practice of cryptography lessens the likelihood of this happening.
Part A Identification and Description of the Issue

We transmit and receive a massive amount of information through the Internet which by its very
nature is insecure and wild and free.
Some information we transmit and receive through the Internet is trivial, other is critical from either a
personal, business or national perspective. Without some form of encryption this information could
not only fall into the wrong hands but it could also be read and manipulated by those who intercepted
it. This, according to the type of information, could be disastrous from either a personal, business, or
national perspective. It could be presumed that intellectual property which currently belongs to its
Creator would be freely disseminated around the globe with no practical way to control who saw it or
how they utilized it (anonymous, http://www.cs.brown.edu/).
Part D Proposed Solutions
There are two possible solutions to the security of data on the Internet. These are TCP/IP and
Cryptography. TCP/IP sessions can be captured, however, by unauthorized personnel using devises
such as IP packet sniffers (Computer Reseller News PG). Cryptography, on the other hand, provides a
single technology which has the potential to address all of the above criteria to ensure safe Internet

blood stained and often pus stained coats....We used marine sponges which had been used in prior pus
cases and been only washed in tap water...If there was any difficulty in threading the needle we
moistened it with saliva (Rutkow 64). The surgeon s hands, or a blunt instrument, would probe the
wound to determine the next step, which was sometimes a secondary amputation. Frank Hastings
Hamilton, commenting on the results of primary versus secondary surgery during the war, wrote, In all
secondary amputations and resections...conservative treatment had been tried and failed, and the
deaths which followed ought in justice be charged to conservatism and not to the operation (Kuz 15).
Secondary amputations had to be made if gangrene began in the stump. This usually occurred within
two or more weeks after the initial wound, and during the formation of pus, usually two three weeks
after injury (Kuz 17). It was generally agreed that amputations had better results if done as soon

Fear From The Town In A Rose For Emily
Alive, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the
town, dating from that day in 1894 when Colonel Sartoris (Faulkner I). Emily abandoned with no
wealth but a house from her father s will. Her father was the man in her life that took control and
isolated Emily by enabling her to have a husband and a proper life. Emily creates her own illusions, a
reality that permanently detaches herself from the real world. Therefore, as the years passed the town
developed a new society, but Emily has gone old unable to accept the changes in her surrounding by
refusing to have a mailbox build on her property. She lives in the past that enables her to adapt. This
gothic short story, A Rose for Emily (1930), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few reasons why Emily gets the negative attention from the town. First, Emily s snobbish
persona intimidates and scare away any town folks because she lacks affection from love ones and
human interaction. The town is afraid of disturbing Emily because from a pungent smell that lingered
her home, Dammit, sir, Judge Stevens said, will you accuse a lady to her face of smelling bad?
(Faulkner II). They took action to encircle her home and sprinkle lime to get rid of the awful smell.
This passage foreshadows the future of Emily s lover Homer dead. Second, Emily ask the druggist to
hand over the a powerful poison and she gets her way by demanding and refusing to explain what she
s going to use it for. When an individual is feared they tend to get what they want. Therefore, the town
folks exclaimed, We all said, She will kill herself ; and we said it would be the best thing (Faulkner
IV). Emily purchased poison to use on her Homer, because rumors from the town he did not have
interest on marry, so Emily did refused Homer on leaving her. Controlling like her father she forced
him to stay by poisoning him and his body detailed as, The body had apparently once lain in the
attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grimace of
love, had cuckolded him (Faulkner V). The passage shows symptoms of being emotionally unstable
after her father s death. Emily positioning a corpse into a cradling position making her a

Advantages Of Pesticides In Agriculture
M. Salman Anwar Research Proposal
Title:
BIODEGRADATION OF PESTICIDES IN SOIL ENVIRONMENT
Introduction:
Wise use and preservation of the soil recourses of a country can transform a poor society into a
prosperous one (Miller and Donahue 1992)
Agriculture is a key sector in the world economy where the competition between the countries is of
great importance in terms of the production. It also contributes about 25% of GDP of Pakistan and
provides livelihood directly to 70% of its rural population. In these conditions, pesticides are
commonly used to reach a definite quantity and quality of agricultural productions. Their generalised
use is attributed to (i) increase the quantitative and qualitative yields (ii) limit the irregularities of crop
production linked to the great parasitic catastrophe (iii) protect the food reserves and many more. It
has been estimated that about 3000 5000 tones of pesticides are used predominately only in Cotton
growing areas of Pakistan (ESCAP Virtual Conference June 16, 2007). According to a report of IFEN,
pesticides are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous studies concerning the pesticide degradation highlighted the microbial degradation as a
primary mechanism of pesticide dissipation from the soils (Cox et al., 1996; Pieuchot et al., 1996).
Along with this degradation of pesticide, these micro organisms also perform many other beneficial
functions like decomposition of organic matter, release of certain enzymes and plant growth
regulators, with having no destructive impact on soil fertility and structure that some more vigorous
conventional technologies may have, such as acid extraction and soil washing. So Biodegradation
should be used to reduce increased soil and underground water pollution caused by excessive use of

False Confessions and the Norfolk Four Case Essay
``In criminal law, confession evidence is a prosecutor s most potent weapon (Kassin, 1997) the queen
of proofs in the law (Brooks, 2000). Regardless of when in the legal process they occur, statements of
confession often provide the most incriminating form of evidence and have been shown to
significantly increase the rate of conviction. Legal scholars even argue that a defendant s confession
may be the sole piece of evidence considered during a trial and often guides jurors perception of the
case (McCormick, 1972). The admission of a false confession can be the deciding point between a
suspect s freedom and their death sentence. To this end, research and analysis of the false confessions
filled Norfolk Four case reveals the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Renegotiation of reality occurs when, by virtue of the institutionalized process of police
interrogations, the suspect perceives that his initial reality holds no value to the interrogator or to the
outcome of the interrogation, when he lacks agency to defend his reality, and when there is no other
option. In this paper, I will illustrate how each of these factors facilitates false confessions and will use
the Norfolk Four case as my vehicle for exploration and analysis.
Determining a false confession proves difficult due to the multitude of dimensions involved.
According to Kassin and Wrightsman s (1985) survey of the literature, there are three main types of
false confessions voluntary, coerced compliant, and coerced internalized. Unlike coerced false
confessions, voluntary false confessions arise as a result of someone willingly turning themselves into
the police with an account of their crime (McCann, 1998). Voluntary false confessions can result from
multiple motives, including an internalized need for punishment or to save someone else s face. In
contrast, coerced false confessions directly result from police interrogations. While coerced compliant
confessions are made to avoid interrogation, escape the stressful situation, or achieve some other
reward, coerced internalized confessions emerge when a suspects begins to

Wayside Woods Home Reading Report
Name Filmon Medhanie
Biology 122 EN
Reflective Journal Wayside Woods Prairie I visited the Wayside Woods Prairie preserve on November
26 Sunday for the service learning. The Wayside Woods Prairie is an Illinois natural preserve which is
a former baseball diamond which is now covered with prairie flowers joining two small, high quality
prairie remnants. Many of the classic prairie plants are found here, including grasses such as big
bluestem, switch grass and norther dropseed; stiff and Riddell s goldenrods; tall coreopsis, prairie
dock, compass plant and many others. Rapid expansion of buckthorn trees has been occurring in this
forest preserve which is major obstacle in the survival of this preserve s native species which are
mainly grasses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main purpose of this visit was to cut and burn the buckthorn trees which have dominated the
grassland of this forest preserve. Similar tools like the other visits were used. The buckthorn trees in
this area were mostly young with population of high density in certain areas and the range of their
occupied area was from entrance of the forest up to one quarter of the area at the end of the savanna.
The buckthorns were cut and by aligning them on the fire place against the direction of the wind then
were burnt. During our visit we noticed that unlike the Bunker Hill Savanna forest preserve we were
first greeted by the grassland then the forest. In the middle of the savanna we saw a buck or a male
deer grazing on the grass found over there. In addition, we were able to observe a species of hawk that
was rarely seen close up. It had a golden brownish color and was sitting in the nearby tree observing
the activities that were done in the forest. After the required buckthorn trees were cut and burnt,
herbicide was sprayed on their remaining parts on the ground. Next seeds of some of the native plants
of that area were dispersed over the area where the buckthorn trees have previously occupied. The
purpose of dispersing the seeds of the area was to increase the population of the native species which
enable them to dominate the area and maintain the

published in 1938. The movie Mr. Popper s Penguins starring Jim Carrey was released in 2011. There
are only a few similarities between the movie and the book, the movie made no attempt to remake the

Essay On College Athletes Should Be Banned
Sports illustrated interviewed a cohort (group of people) of elite Olympic athletes, asking, If you were
given a performance enhancing substance, you would not be caught, and you would win, would you
take it? Ninety eight percent of athletes answered yes. (Charleston) That is a big number. Big risk with
such a small chance of success. Taking drugs to enhance your performance is just not right. Striving to
get better, takes patience and perseverance. Athletes are known for their road they take to get to where
they are today. Along with jail time, athletes that commit illegal acts should be banned from their
sport, for their careers will never be the same, children should not look up to athletes who do those
things, and the chance of losing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, TheRichest illustrates, Even in cases where the athlete is declared innocent (or the charges
are dropped) their reputation can be permanently damaged. Despite their prominent standing in
society, athletes are not immune to the stigma attached to committing crimes. (Adrianna) People may
say athletes that take drugs for medical reasons should not be banned. Athletes themselves have a
prominent place in society, yet that doesn t mean they are invincible from the rest of us. Their
reputation can be the best out there, yet the next thing you know they re at the bottom of society where
the pity is on them. Being an athlete is a privilege, not a guarantee. In saying that, one wrong move
can turn your career upside down. Yet, in some situations, there are the lucky ones who get away with
these illegal acts. In 1991 Roy Tarpley was banned by the NBA for substance abuse. The would be star

Fair Trade
Fair Trade: Consumerism for Global Justice
Introduction
The Fair Trade movement is rapidly becoming an emerging and dynamic strength to respond to the
negative influence of globalization, or rather, to the contemporary international trade injustice. While
on the other hand, there is criticism on fair trade, claiming that fair trade is not fair and it goes against
free market theory. This term paper aims at introducing the development of fair trade, justifying its
economical and ethical significance on the international trade and production chain, and also
reflecting on its limitations from different respective.

One set of standards applies to small scale producers, who don t depend on hired workers all the time,
but run their farm mainly on their own and their family s labour. The other set applies to hired labors,
whose employers pay decent wages, guarantee the right to join trade unions, ensure health and safety
standards and provide adequate housing where relevant.
The Standards Unit (SU) within FLO is responsible for developing and revising fair trade standards.
Fair trade standards refer to: (a) generic standards, (b) product standards, (c) fair trade minimum
prices (FTMP) and fair trade premiums (FTP). Producers and traders must meet applicable standards
for their products to be certified as fair trade.
Fair trade prices
According to fair trade standards, most products have a fair trade price, which is the minimum that
should be paid to the producers for their goods. This fair trade minimum price (FTMP) is intended to
cover the average producers costs of sustainable production (COSP) per product. If global or regional
minimum prices are determined, otherwise national prices are set. Producers or workers (in the case of
hired labour situations) of fair trade products also receive a fair trade premiums(FTP) in addition to
the minimum price. The determination of a minimum price may involve the determination of the
related premium (Andreas Kratz, 2010).

Gwendolyn Brooks s The Mother
Gwendolyn Brooks is a famous, African American poetess who is famous for making a social
commentary upon the urban society in which she lives. Clearly seen in three of her more popular
poems, the mother , a song in the front yard , and What shall I give my children? Who are poor? ,
Brooks uses the struggles of impoverished motherhood to comment on the stymied lives of adult black
women. This is obviously evident in her use of the tone of hopelessness, which transcends all three
poems in differing forms that stem from regret in the mother , worry and overprotectiveness in a song
in the front yard and frustration of lacking the necessities for children in What shall I give my
children? Who are poor In her works, Brooks is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tone of hopelessness in this poem is very obviously the result of regret, or the feelings of what
motherhood may have been. For a majority of the poem the mother focuses on what their lives would
have been having never giggled or planned or cried (4) or how they will never wind up the sucking
thumb (4). Although these are only a few examples it is very evident how the mother, although denied
the joy of motherhood, longs for the child she almost had, saying, believe me, I knew you, though
faintly, and I loved, I loved you/ All (5). In an attempt to take a more positive outlook on the mother
tries to justify herself saying how much better the child s life would be, that as a mother she would
never have the chance to neglect or beat/ Them... (4). The story behind the mother is just one example
of hopelessness that Brooks prominently saw throughout her community, obviously this feeling of
regret and lament was prevalent throughout many women who, although chose to have abortions,
were not done out of not wanting the child, but by force in order to keep a job, house, or some other
commitment in which carrying and properly raising a child would be near impossible. Another very
powerful version of the overall tone of hopelessness in Brooks plays is the feeling of hopelessness that
stems from a mother s worry

Native Americans In Leslie Silko s Ceremony
Honors Essay on Ceremony Imagine being a Native American and suffering the horrors of being a
prisoner of the Japanese, and later restricted to a lonely, alienated reservation in New Mexico. How
would you cope with the trauma of the war and the discrimination that would follow? Without
preserving their ceremonies, stories and traditional culture the Native Americans would not have made
it through the racism, depression, and alcoholism that resulted from being mistreated. The book,
Ceremony, by Leslie Silko described the racism that the Indians faced from the Whites on the
reservation, how the soldiers were treated during World War II, the importance of storytelling in their
culture, and how some Indians used alcohol as their refuge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From present time to thousands of years ago, these ceremonies were used to cure a person s situation
or guide them through a difficult time in life. Their beliefs and practices form a integral and seamless
part of their very being. ...They also embraced ceremonies and rituals that provided power to conquer
the difficulties of life, as wells as events and milestones, such as puberty, marriage, and death
(Alexander). When the Native Americans practiced their ceremonies, they felt powerful, in control,
and connected with their people. When they practiced their native culture, it tied their tribes together.
Without these stories and ceremonies that they practiced, they would feel as if a piece of them were
missing. Some Native Americans tried to find comfort in alcohol, but many times this resulted in
depression and anger. If a person were to experience a difficulty in ones life, then there would be a
ceremony that would fit the person s situation. For example, Betonie, the medicine doctor, was able to
invent a ceremony that fit Tayo s

James Chadwick Research Paper
Just In! James Chadwick Has Discovered The Neutron! It was a great day in May of 1932 and when
we finally received answers to the other particle in the nucleus. After many years of questions and
theories; one man James Chadwick has discovered a new uncharged particle, the neutron. Chadwick
had been studying to find this particle since 1914 in Germany with Hans Geiger, unfortunately due to
World War I he was arrested and his studies were put on halt. Although he was in prison he was still
able to do some scientific studies after creating a science club with some fellow prisoners; and
convincing the guards to allow them to have a lab. Eventually he was released and return to England
where he earned his PhD at Cambridge with Ernest Rutherford. ... Show more content on

This information has not always been know to man though. Thankfully scientist such as J.J
Thompson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick were able to perform experiments to shed more
light on what the atom was made of. The electron was first found in 1897 by J.J Thompson; shortly
after in 1911 the nucleus was discovered by Rutherford, leading to him later discovering the proton in
1919. Before James Chadwick discovered the neutron many scientists believed that there were
additional protons in the nucleus, along with the equal number of electrons to cancel out the additional
charge. Then in 1920 Rutherford thought that the protons plus the electrons made up a new particle
but it was never confirmed. After a few years of study John Chadwick was able to discover the
neutron through unidentified radiation experiments, one experiment in particular caught his eye
Frédéric and Irène Joliot Curie had studied unidentified radiation from beryllium as it hit a paraffin
wax target. This experiment encouraged Chadwick to do some of his own experiments in 1932 which
made him believe that the radiation ejected from beryllium was in fact a neutral particle about the
mass of a proton. He also tried many other targets besides the paraffin wax, these included helium,
nitrogen, and lithium. These experiments led Chadwick to find the the mass of the new particle was
more than the proton, he also found out that the neutrons have no

  • 2. The Commerce Clause And Its Effect On Interstate Commerce... The Commerce Clause in Article 1, Section 8 states that Congress has the power to regulate interstate commerce itself as well as the power to regulate local commerce if that local commerce has a substantial economic effect on interstate commerce. When Congress regulates an intrastate activity, there is a test that is used by the Supreme Court that determines whether Congress actually has the right to regulate this intrastate activity with some sort of economic effect. The Commerce Clause test is one that also goes on to explain that it is not just about one instance where if there is a substantial economic effect on interstate commerce, but as a whole having a substantial economic effect. Also, if the activity does deal with interstate commerce that has an economic effect, then Congress has the ability to regulate wages and any other instance of activity which includes all workers even if the workers do not produce the commerce. Section 1001 of the PSA states Congress intention to establish a nationwide program to protect the public from the adverse effects of tainted and contaminated pharmaceutical products. Section 5001 of the PSA establishes licensing and pharmaceutical production education requirements for individuals employed by any pharmaceutical producer and sets maximum hours such individuals can work. One could then argue that the Supreme Court is allowed to say that Section 5001 of the PSA is within Congress power to set maximum hours and make people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Film Contributions of the Sixties Essay Film Contributions of the Sixties Beginning roughly with the release of Stanley Kubrick s Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb in 1964, and continuing for about the next decade, the Sixties era of filmmaking made many lasting impressions on the motion picture industry. Although editing and pacing styles varied greatly from Martin Scorcesse s hyperactive pace, to Kubrick s slow methodical pace, there were many uniform contributions made by some of the era s seminal directors. In particular, the Sixties saw the return of the auteur, as people like Francis Ford Coppola and Stanley Kubrick wrote and directed their own screenplays, while Woody Allen wrote, directed and starred in his own films. Kubrick, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These sequences are a result of a film, which for most of its run time does not presented the subjective vision of any one character. In stylistic and visual terms, there is a movement from the three dimensional style of the film s first half to the flatter, more abstract visual style of the Star Gate sequence. The film s movement towards abstraction can be understood both in visual and narrative terms (Falsetto, 115). 2001 s presentation of details from the Dawn of Man sequence, to later space travel scenes are shot with complete conviction and impeccable detail. The viewer believes that the world might have actually looked like what Kubrick presented it as, several million years ago, and the depiction of space travel is just as convincing. The use of models, front projection, the slow editing techniques and camera work all help to create a more complete illusion (Falsetto, 141). If 2001 was presented almost completely objectively, than Kubrick s next film, A Clockwork Orange (1972) was presented almost completely subjectively. This may have been in part due to the constraints of the original novel by William Burgess, but nonetheless the film is told from the point of view of its central character, Alex. When Alex is not speaking on camera, he can often be heard as a voiced over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Imagery And Diction In Shakespeare s Sonnet 138 The Sonnet 138 is a poem by William Shakespeare. In the poem, Shakespeare uses imagery and diction to describe the speakers mistress to the reader. With the utilization of such techniques, Shakespeare is able to incorporate the speakers personal qualities as rude, honest, and genuine. Throughout the poem, the speaker is interpreted as rude by the readers because of the way he draws out his mistress. The speaker says, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun / If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun (1 3). As the speaker uses imagery to illustrates his mistress eyes, he is saying that they are not bright nor do they shine the way the sun shines. When the speaker describes her breast as dun, he portrays them as dull and brownish. If the speaker has a mistress, would it not be with someone who he finds beautiful; someone whose eyes do shine like the sun and has breast as beautiful as the snow? Describing her features as the opposite of these characteristics build the reader up to conclude that the speaker is both a rude and honest person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says, And in some perfumes is there more delight / Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks (7 8). The speaker uses diction to describe his sincerity about his mistress breath. He does not expect her to her breath to smell the way flowers do. The speaker also says, I grant I never saw a goddess go / My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground (12). In these lines the speaker lets the reader know that his mistress walk is not elegant as he imagines a goddess walk, but the complete contrary. Throughout the end of the poem the reader begins to understand that the speaker is more honest and genuine than what he began to come off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stamp Act Dbq Essay Beginning in the year 1765 the British began taxing the colonies, as a result of war debt, yet this only put a stress on the relationship between the two, due to the colonist s belief that they were not being directly represented in the British parliament. The first act that was made to raise money and anger was the Sugar Act. The Sugar Act was created in 1764 and it increased the tax on sugar that was imported from the West Indies. The colonies responded to this act with bitter protests. Due to these protests Britain lowered the duties substantially. • 9. The Rise and Fall of Class in Britain INTRODUCTION Beyond Class Forward to Class? The rise and fall of class in Britain is both an allusive and ironic phrase, totally correct yet also at least half mistaken. It is allusive (and correct) because, during the last twenty years or so, the once fashionable and widely accepted view that class structure and class analysis provide the key to understanding modern British history and modern British life has been disregarded by many historians and abandoned by almost all politicians. Yet it is also ironic (or mistaken), because it remains a generally held belief, not just in Britain but around the world, that class, like the weather and the monarchy, is a peculiarly and particularly British preoccupation. It certainly has been in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In trying to understand and explain the evolution of past societies, Marx believed it was essential to deal not just with the politics of their ruling elites but also with the histories of their whole populations. But how were these whole populations to be encompassed and described in a comprehensive and convincing way? What were the abstract concepts and collective nouns he thought it appropriate to employ for this purpose? Marx s solution which proved exceptionally influential was to classify individuals in collective groupings according to their different relations to the means of production. This enabled him (and his followers) to place everybody in one of three categories: landowners, who drew their unearned income from their estates as rents; bourgeois capitalists, who obtained their earned income from their businesses in the form of profits; and proletarian workers, who made their money by selling their labor to their employers in exchange for weekly wages. For Marx, these were the three fundamental, constitutive classes of human society, and it was in the conflicts among them, which had raged unabated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Mission 33284 Research Paper June 3, 1986 an adroit group of astronauts went on Mission 33284: Journey to Mars. They went on this trip in search of life on Mars, or at least evidence of life on Mars. Five of them set out on this precarious journey to space.. Not a single one returned home. No bodies were discovered, no calls were sent back to base, not a single clue was given as to what happened; it was just nothing. A full investigation was conducted and it was concluded that something happened to the engine and they fell into oblivion. December 8, 2016, 30 years later, another set of astronauts were chosen to take part in Mission 33284 once again. The ship fell for what felt like years until it finally crashed on a hard surface. Kamila, who had bloody nose and left leg was completely shattered, looked around at the now wrecked ship. The entire back of the craft was flattened the only that was visible was the long trail of blood trickling down. Kamila slowly crawled to the intercom and dialed 33284 on the intercom. Nothing happened. She dialed again and again and again and again and once more and another, but... nothing happened. She sat staring at the blank intercom in complete disbelief then she began to sob. Now realizing she was stranded in space with no one to help, and little oxygen left she began to sob harder and harder until she began hyperventilating. While wiping her tears something caught her eye, there was a piece of a spacecraft outside. But it wasn t a piece of her spacecraft... it was another spacecraft. How could it be though, she thought, what other spacecraft has cras ... She didn t even finish her thought before realizing. She looked down at the intercom once more and understood that 30 years no calls were received because the calls weren t meant to be received. She realized that the call she just made didn t go through not because it was busted but because it wasn t made to go through. • 11. Calypso and Circe in Homer s Odyssey Essays Calypso and Circe The islands of Circe and Calypso in Homer s Odyssey are places where Odysseus most challenging problems occur. In contrast to battles with men, Cyclops, or animals, sexual battles with women are sometimes much more difficult to win. These two female characters are especially enticing to Odysseus because they are goddesses. Though it is evident that Odysseus longs to return to Penelope in Ithaka, it sometimes appears that he has lost vision of what life was like with a wife, a son, and with thousands of people who regard him as King. Although his experiences on the islands of these goddesses were similar in that he was retained from Ithaka for the longest periods of his adventure, these goddesses and the ... And what s even worse is the fact that Odysseus isn t even the first one ready to go. His men are the ones who urge him to leave: What ails you now? It is time to think about our own country . So though at a glance it appears that Odysseus is merely succumbing to Circe s schemes for reasons related to their health and well being, if we read between the lines, we soon begin to realize that Odysseus is weak in the voracious hands of lust. Odysseus arrives on Calypso s island alone, after the loss of his men and ship. Calypso rescues him and loves and cares for him in her cave. At first, it seems like Odysseus doesn t seem much to mind her taking care of him, but over time it is plainly evident that he is unhappy with her. When Hermes arrives on Calypso s island to give her the message from Zeus to release Odysseus, he is bawling on the beach a day long activity for him. Calypso is holding him with her by force; she has no companions to help him back to Ithaka, nor has she a ship to send him in. Athena pleads with Zeus to give Odysseus good fortune, saying that he lies away on an island suffering strong pains in the palace of the nymph Kalypso, and she detains him by constraint, and he cannot make his way to his country, for he has not any ships by him, nor any companions who can convey him back ... • 12. Dreams And What They Mean Dreams And What They Mean Dreams have broader representation than languages can provide. The symbols of our dreams are deeper expressions than we can come up. Dreams are lower base layer of processing that cannot easily be interpret in ordinary language. Since all forms of languages are defined by their limitation, they can only represent a subset of the messages dreams can convey, and they go much deeper than language. People become bewildered when they cannot understand the meaning of a dream, simply because they don t have the right skills to recognise what they express; it is not everyday occurrence they can relate. Learning to understand your dream is a skill you must learn, no different than learning to speak a language. • 13. Marginalization Of Felons In Michelle Alexander s The New Jim With no doubt, mass incarceration has produced broken people from a broken system. What breaks the heart even more is knowing that there are collateral consequences that follow these ex prisoners throughout the rest of their life. Those who come out of the incarcerated system struggle to get back on their feet due to discrimination. Marginalization of felons can be found anywhere specifically in jobs, housing, and even in debt that they cannot afford. Iris Marian Young introduces the birdcage metaphor, where one wire of the cage represents racism. However, there are many wires that create racism, and each of them have different approaches in keeping the bird, or the disadvantaged, trapped in the cage. Michelle Alexander s book, The New Jim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simply, being labeled a felon restricts the individual from several aspects in life. Alexander states that they are unable to drive, get a job, find housing, or even qualify for public benefits, [they] lose their children, their dignity, and eventually their freedom (143). Felons are marginalized from society. They are unable to obtain resources to help themselves due to collateral consequences. Particularly, under the category of collateral consequences, finding a job in order to support themselves financially is a challenge. When applying for a job, felons are usually avoided in the pool of applicants. Before they even check the box that signifies that they are a felon, the concept of legal discrimination is applied to the surface. Alexander introduces the strategy of the negative credential in the job market. Employers are legally allowed to discriminate people from being employed based on criminal status and skin color. Black men who have not committed crimes have the same chance of being rejected as those who have committed one. Before considering on hiring, employers have a preconceived image about black men being criminals, even if one has a clean record. The metaphor that Young uses about the birdcage becomes parallel to one of the aspects of the collateral consequences, which is legal discrimination in the job market. Alexander uses a boxed in analogy for a job application for felons, and Young s metaphor of being stuck in one place, hence the birdcage being a box, aligns with Alexander s vision. With discrimination on a criminal status towards black men, it is difficult to find a job. Without a job, they cannot support themselves in the world because there are only so many options. Considering that they also come out of prison with almost nothing, the societal level they are in progresses lower as time goes on. With no money, they are unable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Theme Of Indecision In Hamlet By William Shakespeare To be or not be that is the question. That is the question Hamlet is tormented by throughout the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Should I live? Should I die? Should I take revenge for my father s death? These are all the internal struggles Hamlet is trying to combat within himself. Also, Hamlet tends to have a conflict with every member of the play. His indecision is followed by his inaction. The reason for this struggle with indecision can be based on many factors life presents for Hamlet. At the beginning of the play, Hamlet spoke to a ghost which was his father, the dead king. The king confessed that Claudius, the king s brother that is now married to Hamlet s mother, killed him. Hamlet s first soliloquy (1.2) reveal Hamlet s melancholy towards his mother s actions, Why, she would hang on him as if increase of appetite had grown by what it fed on, and yet, within a month let me not on t; frailty, thy name is woman . High level encryption or cryptography is used in a number of applications ranging from those which impact national security to those which are more mundane. Essentially, cryptography is the methodology of encoding information so that one s privacy is ensured. This is particularly important when it comes to transactions which occur over the Internet. The risk of individuals gaining access to personal information or information which is critical to a country or a nation over the Internet is a very real one. Some information we transmit and receive through the Internet is trivial, other is critical from either a personal, business or national perspective. This, according to the type of information, could be disastrous from either a personal, business, or national perspective. It could be presumed that intellectual property which currently belongs to its Creator would be freely disseminated around the globe with no practical way to control who saw it or how they utilized it (anonymous, http://www.cs.brown.edu/). TCP/IP sessions can be captured, however, by unauthorized personnel using devises such as IP packet sniffers (Computer Reseller News PG). Regardless of when in the legal process they occur, statements of confession often provide the most incriminating form of evidence and have been shown to significantly increase the rate of conviction. Legal scholars even argue that a defendant s confession may be the sole piece of evidence considered during a trial and often guides jurors perception of the case (McCormick, 1972). Determining a false confession proves difficult due to the multitude of dimensions involved. According to Kassin and Wrightsman s (1985) survey of the literature, there are three main types of false confessions voluntary, coerced compliant, and coerced internalized. Unlike coerced false confessions, voluntary false confessions arise as a result of someone willingly turning themselves into the police with an account of their crime (McCann, 1998). Voluntary false confessions can result from multiple motives, including an internalized need for punishment or to save someone else s face. The electron was first found in 1897 by J.J Thompson; shortly after in 1911 the nucleus was discovered by Rutherford, leading to him later discovering the proton in 1919. Before James Chadwick discovered the neutron many scientists believed that there were additional protons in the nucleus, along with the equal number of electrons to cancel out the additional charge. Then in 1920 Rutherford thought that the protons plus the electrons made up a new particle but it was never confirmed. After a few years of study John Chadwick was able to discover the neutron through unidentified radiation experiments, one experiment in particular caught his eye Frédéric and Irène Joliot Curie had studied unidentified radiation from beryllium as it hit a paraffin wax target. This experiment encouraged Chadwick to do some of his own experiments in 1932 which made him believe that the radiation ejected from beryllium was in fact a neutral particle about the mass of a proton. He also tried many other targets besides the paraffin wax, these included helium, nitrogen, and lithium. These experiments led Chadwick to find the the mass of the new particle was more than the proton, he also found out that the neutrons have no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
