Importance Of Data Analysis
Machine Learning Techniques
Since the plasmapause location is a continuous variable, techniques like regression support vector
machine (SVM), tree bagger, and neural network were used to construct the model. In this study, the
plasmapause location derived from 2013 March RBSP data is used, which is 89 observational data in
total.
For neural network approaches, 70% of the electron density data were used as the training data sets,
the 15% were used as the validation data and the final 15% as the testing data sets. As for the rest of
the method, 75% of electron density data were randomly selected to train the data and the rest of the
data were used as test datasets.
After the model were obtained, the performances of the model were accessed ... Show more content

Case 1 refers to the eight parameters (Vsw, SymH, AE, AL, AU, Pressure, E, and Bz) without any
manipulations. For case 2 and 4, the 12 hour moving average of Bz, symH and AE values were used
instead of the real time values. This would add time history to these parameters. Meanwhile, in case 3
and 4, log10 of symH, AL and Bz were used instead. These parameters were selected for manipulation
through a trial and error process as well as based on previous studies and understanding of the
parameters.
From Figure 2, it is clear that the values predicted by bagging, boost and neural network methods
came very close to actual values. On the other hand, the SVM with radial basis function (RBF) kernel
and SVM with 3 order of polynomial model generated a horizontal straight line, i.e. did not change at
all. Similar trends (shown in Figure 4) were observed for the rest of the parameter sets. This shows
that SVM has a poor performance in general as compared to other methods.
Figure 4 illustrated the predicted values from each model using the input parameter from case 2 and
the actual Lpp values.
To further examine the performance of each technique, coefficient R and RMSE from each test case
were studied carefully. The results were summarized in Table 1.
Table 1 listed the RMSE and R from each model using different parameter sets.

Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution Essay
On August 7, 1964, Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which authorized Johnson to take
necessary measures to retaliate and promote the peace and security in Southeast Asia. Congress was
definitely wrong in doing so. The results of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution were too chaotic and too
violent to overlook. By 1964, the US desperate to contain communism had already sent troops to
support South Vietnamese leader, Ngo Dinh Diem. Ngo Dinh Diem couldn t end communist
infiltrations of the South; such infiltrations were otherwise known as the Viet Cong (South Vietnamese
communist guerillas), who made their debut to the South in 1959. Diem did not receive loyalty and his
rule was so deteriorated that he was overthrown and assassinated by several of his generals with the
tacit approval of the Kennedy Administrations ¹ in 1963; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On August 2, they reported an attack by the North Vietnamese patrols; the destroyer USS Maddox was
pursued and fired upon by three North Vietnamese torpedo boats. Maddox supposedly fired three
warning shots prior to this and then overkilled the torpedo targets. In other words, the Maddox
expended over 280 3 and 5 inch shells in the sea battle, ³ which resulted in one slightly damaged US
aircraft and boat, three damaged North Vietnamese torpedo boats, and 10 North Vietnamese casualties.
Following this minor attack was a second aggression on the 4th of August in which false radar images
were found; thus, no real North Vietnamese torpedo boats were around the radar signals. Despite the
second attack literally being nothing, Johnson asked congress for permission to defend US forces in
Southeast Asia ⁴. The request was later passed by congress; otherwise known as the only aspect of the
government that could approve of waging, according to the

Analysis Of Graduation Day By Maya Angelou
Forged by Pain In 1940, the United States approached the eightieth year anniversary of the abolition
of slavery; however, the social oppression of African American citizens steadily increased. Despite
being free for decades, they were still leagues below the white people who owned their ancestors.
African American author Maya Angelou recollects on her experience of graduation from the eighth
grade in her 1940 piece Graduation Day. The narrative not only highlights the importance of the
narrator s graduation, but also the expectations of Angelou s community due to their persecution and
separation. Perseverance through separation and persecution forges dignity in an individual. The
separation of the African American displays the importance of graduation day. Angelou was only
graduating from the eighth grade, but because of the sociocultural differences, graduation proved
momentous in their community. Angelou later states Oh, it was important, all right. White folks would
attend the ceremony, and two or three would speak of God and home, and the Southern way of life
(Angelou, 2014, p. 181). The school making a minute event into a grand celebration conveys much
about the state of the position African Americans were subjected to. Angelou displays this later when
she describes the scene of small children presented in a play about buttercups and daisies and bunny
rabbits and older girls preparing snacks and beverages. Normal society does not make such an event of

Police Use And Excessive Force
In most cases the police is permitted to use any form of necessary force to suppress a suspected
criminal with minimal consequences if they use excessive force ( Police Use Of Force ). According to
the current law all law enforcement officers should use only the amount of force necessary to weaken
an incident, make an arrest, and protect themselves and others from harm ( Police Use of Force ).
Officers receive guidance from their individual agencies, but no universal set of rules that governs
when officers should use force and how much ( Police Use Of Force ). Police use of excessive force
against the unarmed public should be illegal because it lowers the amount of unnecessary deaths,
reduces riots, and would decrease racism.
To begin the police has caused many unnecessary deaths throughout the United States. More than 920
people have been killed by the police in 2015 ( 5 Facts about Police Brutality in the United States That
Will Shock You ). In Ferguson, Missouri 18 year old Michael Brown was shot and killed by police
officer Darren Wilson. Mr. Johnson a witness at the scene, says that his friend was shot once from
behind and then turned to face the police officer while raising his arms in the air. According to Mr
Johnson, the officer fired several more shots at Mr. Brown before he fell to the ground ( Ferguson
protests:What we know about Michael Brown s last minutes ). Although Mr. Brown was fleeing from
the officer, there was no need for the officer to shoot Brown.

Australian Urbanisation Early 1900 s
The process of urbanisation is a central feature of Australian history. By 1900 over two thirds of
Australians were living in areas that were classified as urban. The growth of these cities was
encouraged by various factors; the interaction and engagement of economic, demographic, political
and social characteristics are definitely the key features that promoted the urbanisation of Australia.
However, with the development of Australia came problems that people living in cities had to face.
Environmental and health difficulties were to be over come in the city suburbs while economic
depression followed after a period of prosperity and progress.
Economic factors are fundamental in determining urban structure. Cities can be seen as a form ...

Unlike in Britain, urbanisation had stimulated the growth of industrialisation.
By the nineteenth century, Australia had a relatively affluent, well housed, well fed and a healthy
population. The first increase in population occurred in 1830 when a bounty system, to catch escaped
convicts, was introduced and immigration was assisted on a large scale. During the 1850 s the gold
rushes bought the next influx of immigrants and Australia s population more than doubled over a
period of ten years. In this time before 1860, population grew largely due to immigration rather than
natural increase. In most urban areas a higher rate of population or an increasing degree of
urbanisation may be gained through natural increase, from immigration or a sizeable movement from
rural to urban areas. In Australia it was a merging of these three factors that encouraged urbanisation.
Yet, over seas migration was the most important source of Australian metropolitan population growth,
followed closely by natural increase. Rural to urban drift of population was much less important,
except during the post gold rush periods. The demographic variables such as age structure, fertility,
mortality, and marriage rates were also of considerable economic, social and political significance,

Violence In Venezuela
Long has it been known that South America has more than its fair share of crime and violence. This
was seen globally during the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics in the country of Brazil. Onlookers were
horrified by the number of reports, and videos showing tourists being attacked and robbed by locals.
Brazil is not the only country in South America that has a problem with violence though, due to
widespread poverty many countries struggle to maintain lawfulness. One of those countries is
Venezuela, a socialist country on the verge of complete societal collapse. Crime and with it, violence
runs rampant through Venezuela, in large part because of a corrupt government that either refuses to
acknowledge the problems or refuses to do anything about them. ... Show more content on

Those supporters then use their leverage, power, and wealth to secure themselves and their families.
This good old boy system leads to corrupt police, an unfair and politicized judicial system and many
other problems that stem from the wrong people being placed in highly influential jobs. This can all be
tied into the functionalism theory of sociology, where Venezuela can be thought of as a living
organism. Government is one of six core systems in sociology, and is kind of like the central nervous
system to the organism. If the government is not working properly, this can affect education, which in
turn may affect family dynamics. This breakdown in one system leads to strain on the other systems of
the organism, and it will eventually cause the whole to fail. The people at the top, those in the
government have thus far kept themselves from feeling the burden of poverty and hunger. This
however is unsustainable, and if the government is not properly preforming the job it was designed to
do than it would need to be replaced. Just as a living organism would adapt a new and better system to
continue living, so too will Venezuela adapt a new

Lord Of The Flies Comparison Analysis
Composers such as William Golding and J.J Abrams are able to employ various themes and ideas to
convey important messages within their texts. These themes are often represented through the clever
clever and concise use of descriptive language and symbolism. Golding s lord of the flies and Abrams
Examples of this are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film Lost where Golding and Abrams
are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and societies brittle shell which when put
under pressure results in a descent into chaos and savagery. Golding is able to encapsulate paramount
themes and ideas in the text through the use of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and
symbolism. The preeminent matter in Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing
and combative aspects of human nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the
best and worst of society, civilisation vs savagery. An example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a
conch and decide to use it to summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call
the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early on the
underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use. This is an example of symbolism used
to relate society s values with the islands. Golding uses symbolism to convey his message that society
s state of governing and law is feeble and if people are put in certain

Theme Of Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies
I walked into my living room, ready to yell at my father for not lowering the volume of the television.
He sat hypnotized on the couch as he stared at the CNN News headlines popping up on the screen.
Only interested in stories with happy endings, I rolled my eyes at the 100 inch flat screen TV, where
news reporters are constantly arguing with each other, debating the news of terrorist attacks, robberies,
racism, and political corruption. This frequent bickering and arguing suggests that humans are born
evil. Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, constantly brings up this theme of human nature.
Twelve children are stuck on an island, and struggle with the decision to leave behind their morals and
resort to a barbaric lifestyle in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is significant because it is very unexpected for the reader to see twelve innocent boys from
England become barbaric cavemen and succumb to uncivilized tribal dances and murder. Golding
shows in Lord of the Flies that when exposed to lack of authority, sanity and common sense start to
disappear into thin air. The boys constantly bicker with each other instead of collaborating and
listening to everyone s opinions. Initially, they set rules, have certain positions or jobs, and elect a
leader like in a democracy. But as time passes, the boys start to break out of their good stage and
embrace who they really are inside ‒ greedy savages. When Jack becomes violent and unruly, all order
on the island begins to disappear. He abuses people and fights with others like cats and dogs. The
conch, a symbol of power and order, is broken shortly after Piggy s death, which shows the
disappearance of morality and merit. Simon s death and the need for power shows the corrupt nature
of the boys, and thereby exemplifies that they are selfish. Lord of the Flies teaches us the importance
of civilization and sanity, as they can disappear in the absence of authority and order. Hopefully, we
can learn from this novel and try to better ourselves by focusing on the good in society and reporting
about it rather than constantly bickering with

Biological Anthropology
Biological Anthropology is the study of human biology within the framework of evolution. There are
four subfields of Biological Anthropology; genetics, human variation, paleoanthropology, and
primatology. Primatology is the study of non human primates and I find it the most interesting of the
four subfields. The study of Primatology focuses on the biological and psychological aspects of non
human primates. Also it looks at the similarities shared between humans and primates. Primatologists
focus on studying and conducting research on primates in three main ways; field study, laboratory
study, and through captivity. In captivity, they try to replicate natural primate habitat in a controlled
captive setting. This is one of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some Intentional responses include direct eye contact, specific sounds and calls, and mounting.
Reproductive strategies are different for both males and females. Male strategies focus on mating as
often as possible while female strategies focus on maximizing resources for herself and her offspring.
Primates are K selected reproductive animals just like us. K selected animals tend to have few
offspring at a time but invest a lot into parental care. The mother infant bond is a strong thing in K
selected animals. Lastly cultural and cognitive behavior in primates are behaviors that require
planning and the idea of an end result. These are typically learned behaviors such as stone tool use.
Some primates in captivity have been able to show some types of artistic expression too such as
painting. A remarkable behavior that Apes have is their knowledge of their self image. When a mirror
is placed in front of them they can tell that they are looking at themselves.
Primatology is very important for many reasons but I think most importantly because we can learn a

Endgame Play Essay
On April 25th, I spent my Tuesday evening watching the production, Endgame, which is located in the
Mason Hall of vertical building at 17 Lexington Avenue. Honestly, I was looking forward to this
production because I ve never seen a play at the Baruch s vertical campus theater. I was also curious
for the plotline of Endgame because I remember that Eric Krebs mentioned that this play was going to
be very difficult to understand as it is meant for adults. After observing Endgame for about 75
minutes, I can undoubtingly conclude that it was one of the most confusing, but brilliant theatrical
productions I ve ever watched. Endgame by Samuel Beckett focuses on the life of the two protagonist
Hamm and Clov who live with both of Hamm s parents after an apocalyptic disaster. Throughout the
play, Hamm continuously orders Clov, who is his servant, to follow routines such as opening the
curtains, checking out of the window with a telescope, or moving Hamm s wheelchair to the middle of
the room. It was, honestly, very difficult for me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clov and Hamm would perform the same unfinished routines each day as if there is nothing much left
to do as their endings are approaching. It is a way to show the audience, especially the older people,
that death is going to occur, but it is still a scary thing to face. Isolation is another main point in the
Endgame. The two protagonists have shown that even though there is constant bickering, they both
needed each other. They are afraid of being alone, which is a common struggle many people deal with
in life. I believe Krebs was correct because this was play that older people can definitely relate to.
There was not any particular scene that spoke out to me because the entire play was indeed splendid.
For the most part, the meaning behind the story was amazing and

Essay about Crack’s Effect on New York City
Crack s Effect on New York City
In the summer of 1985, New York City was introduced to the drug crack. The ensuing seventeen years
have culminated into some of the most turbulent, and crime ridden years in the history of New York
City. Crack is the street name for a form of cocaine introduced in the mid 1980s. Crack is smoked,
rather then sniffed through the nose, or injected, which are all other ways to use cocaine. Users of the
drug inhale the vapors that are given off when the crack is heated (Berger pg.20). Crack cannot burn,
and in order to give off the drugs vapors it must be heated to a very high temperature. After the crack
has been heated the user will proceed to inhale the vapors. The drug will then pass ... Show more

Crack users range from the Wall Street stockbroker to a homeless person living in Central Park, but by

questions about the drug and also offers counseling and drug intervention services; suggested that his
findings showed that, occasional users of crack quickly increased, the amount and frequency of crack

honest people were now robbing and stealing to pay for the drug, and many who once enjoyed good
health were now suffering from a variety of physical and mental aliments springing from their cocaine

Description and Imagery in The Foghorn and The Signalman
For this assignment I will be looking at two short narratives. One was written by Bradbury, in the mid
twentieth century , The Foghorn and the other was written by Dickens, The Signalman over one
hundred years before. Both are based on supernatural themes and ideas.
It is obvious that Dickens tale was written in the mid nineteenth century because his style of writing is
very different to the more modern techniques writers employ today. In his story he tells us about
objects which no longer have a place in modern society ,such as the telegraph and the steam train .
Therefore it was necessary to look more closely at Dickens script to identify how he creates a ... Show

The narrator is obviously posed the same question and comments: There was something remarkable
about his manner .
The narrator wonders why the Signalman does not answer. So, right from the beginning the audience
has the perception that the Signalman is slightly mysterious and strange.
The opening to The Fog Horn is quite similar. From the outset the light house in the story is
established as a desolated, mysterious place, cold, dark and dismal, as described when the narrator
says :
Out there in the cold water we waited every night for the coming of the fog .
This immediately creates a cold dark atmosphere and prepares the reader for what is come. Straight
away McDunn and the narrator are established as two isolated people, as described when the narrator
says :
Feeling like two birds in the grey sky, McDunn and I sent the light ,
Also when McDunn says: It s a lonely life .
All of this imagery and description creates a powerful impression of how bleak and lonely the
lighthouse is.
The narrator in The Signalman is a mysterious man, like the signal man himself. He does not give a lot
of information about himself, not even his name. He says that he is staying in a inn:
I am currently staying in a small inn in the village near by

Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs Summary
This article describes the black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys Ludovocianus) and their coteries
(polygynous social groups). In these groups, the one adult male reproducing genetically similar
females. The main purpose that the author (John L. Hoogland) tries to convey and support his earlier
work on prairie dogs. In this summary, there is several references to his earlier work, called Analysis
of the Mating System in the Black Tailed Prairie Dog (AMSBTPD). These prairie dogs exist where
some females and pups (yearlings) within the coteries do not breed. Moreover, they behave parentally
towards non offspring. In addition, the Hoogland classified black tailed prairie dogs as cooperative

Michener and Murie also argue that Hoogland assumption is based on old information and too soon to

coterie size and LRS of females is a hypothesis. Also, should not solely determine black tails as
cooperative breeders (Hoogland 1983). I find Hoogland last argument inadequate because he makes a
prediction off statistics that deviate from his original hypothesis. Although it is acceptable, it does not
support his argument; and, consequently, taken advantage of. Future research on the LRS of black
tailed prairie dogs will determine if prairie dogs are cooperatively breeder. These are just a few of the
examples, which I find significant of the arguments that occurs in this

Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe
Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such
choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart
and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first reading in the
context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and change in an African
village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are seen to be connected
through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one applies Appiah s idea
of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Okonkwo in Achebe s Things Fall Apart
(who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of how his fate or destiny is
conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although Okonkwo is a character of
complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is his resistance to change. This
resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose this personal resistance on a greater
community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the failure of the personal over the communal
in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels between people helping each other and people
driving each other towards entropy. According to Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according
to several of its divisions: One is the idea that we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch

The case is about Loblaw companies Inc., a highly successful grocery chain in Canada. Loblaw is

What Can Raise Awareness Of Sustainable Consumption Of...
Introduction:
Many consumers aren t educated on the importance of sustainability of clothing and textiles. The
media mistakenly represents sustainability and the influence it can have on the environment. This
research paper will attempt to address the question of what could raise awareness of sustainable
consumption of textiles for college students. Consumers should all be aware of how they can conserve
the environment by preserving clothing which is a concept that many people have not acknowledged.
This study is imperative to make this knowledgeable to pop culture and the developing generation
consumers to settle all perceptions of sustainability.
Sustainable fashion, also known as eco fashion, is the use of resources to construct fashion that is
environmentally friendly. Sustainability in fashion is important because the goal is to preserve the
environment and help improve instead of taking away from it with harsh resources. The purpose of the
study was to examine the knowledge students have on sustainable fashions, in addition, examining
how the awareness amongst peers and how the globalization of the awareness can change the fashion

Statement of Purpose for Becoming a Pediatric Resident
I believe that empathy and interpersonal regard are the foundation stones of human connectedness.
Growing up in the fast growing city of New Delhi in India, I have witnessed several children grow in
front of my eyes. This offered me an opportunity to see how this time of life has an effect on the
whole personality of that person. I always remember my grandma used to tell me how we can only
shape a clay pot when it is soft. Once is it hardened in a kiln, you cannot change the basic structure.
Children are like that soft clay. What they do in childhood defines what they ll be as an adult. This is
After enrolling in medical school, I had firsthand experience in dealing with the pediatric problems
and interacting with their parents. As a pediatrician, it s just not the patients but the parents of the child
that you have to deal with. Working as a medical officer after medical school, I saw many pediatric
cases. I am currently pursuing an observership at the Children Hospital of Orange County, Orange.
The diversity and multiplicity of interesting cases intrigued me on the complexity of the subject.

Greason Differences In Shakespeare
Even though Shakespeare of Stratford is commonly believed to have written the plays ascribed to him,
Edward de Vere, Earl of Oxford is a better candidate because he was educated in the royal court
mannerisms and there was coincidences in Hamlet s life with same thing happening in de Vere s, he
had the proper training to understand the complex grammar of Shakespeare s plays, was a well known
for his writing, and also had a shaking spear on the Oxford Coat of Arms.
Shakespeare of Stratford is shown as the writer of the William Shakespeare s pieces. While the Occam
s razor theory of the simplest solution is usually the correct one (Pressley) makes sense in theory, there
are gaps in the Stratford argument. For example, as mentioned by Keir Cutler,

UMAT Assessment Essay
As a current student striving to be accepted into medicine I will be required to undertake the UMAT
examination. I have always been interested in the relevance of the examination, how it is perceived by
people and whether students are the key people it serves . To gain a basic understanding of the purpose
of the UMAT I conducted preliminary research, utilising the ACER (Australian Council for
Educational Research) website, who were the developers and write the examination every year. I
obtained sources through the use of google scholar to locate relevant and highly reliable sources.
The majority of my sources were secondary obtained from websites, journals and articles. I had
emailed multiple professionals to conduct interviews but received no responses, hence, I was unable to
obtain primary data on my topic. However, sources from the Medical Journal of Australia provided
sufficient information on my topic, providing me with facts and statistics which I utilised throughout
my report. I was assured that information obtained from this journal was highly reliable as the articles
are all peer reviewed and also by the reputation of the journal. Other information was sourced from

also vital that I structured my report in a manner that was easy to follow and logical. This will ensure

Hinduism And The Islamic Religion
Thousands of years has passed since man was created, and ever since then people have always
worshipped a higher figure, being or object. For primitive humans the first thing they worshipped was
a stone, then plants and trees. As time passed and civilization evolved, it altered and man started to
worship animals, especially those that had a dominant physical trait. People s adoration then changed
to the elements, then to man in the form of priests, kings or prophets and finally it has, settled on
Heavenly Beings which are worshipped by different religions. Two of the more prominent religions in
society are Hinduism and the Islamic religion. The Origins of Worship | Urantia Book | Urantia

This is evident in their god Surya who is their sun god, Garuda the messenger god and Hanuman, the
god of courage and power. Yet, there has to be more prominent deities in their religion, and there is.
There are three gods which are a part of the Hinduism triumvirate, which are the gods that have the
responsibility of the creation, preservation and destruction of the world, they include Brahma, Vishnu
and Shiva. Brahma, is the creator God and is considered to have been the founder of the world. Even
though he played such a vital role in the creation of Earth, he is the least worshiped god in Hinduism.
This is mainly because his role in creation is, apparently, over. The god Vishnu is proclaimed to be the
powerful preserver and protector. This god is one of the more worshiped gods due to defending the
world that we live on. The god responsible for destruction is Shiva. Even though it sounds like this
god has a passion for slaughter, the destruction that Shiva causes is believed to extinguish the flaws in
our world. (Swami krishnananda.org. 2015) and (bbc.co.uk. 2015)
Even though followers of Hinduism have many gods in their religion they usually have a personal
God which they support the most and worship more than the others. Whilst a large percentage of
Hindu s believe in hundreds of gods, some like to argue that there is only one or three gods to
worship. (Shaivam.org. 2015)
By worshipping different gods the followers of Hinduism

Defining Moments In My Life
Having defining moments, critical choices and pivotal people in your life is very important. Its
something to base your life off of, having these key parts in your history is what built you to who you
are today. It builds character and helps you learn the right and wrongs in life. I believe without having
defining moments, critical choices and pivotal people in your life whether they are something as small
as a coach teaching you a new play to maneuver, or a bumper on bumper car crash that sent you to the
hospital for stitches can look small but have a deep impact on your life. Using these incidences to
build your life can make you the person who you are today. Everybody has their own specific defining

my life. The incident occurred in my sixth grade year at Woodland Middle School in Duluth, in which

childhood going into that school year. We would meet up every morning in the summer and go
perform stupid, idiotic things. We were purely careless acting in a fashion that in the end the outcome
wouldn t bother us. We would soon choke on those fabrications as a true nightmare hit us on June 16,

A Passage to India and Burmese Days Essays
Throughout the novel A Passage to India, by E.M. Forster, and Burmese Days, by George Orwell, the
authors use race, culture, economics, and liberal humanism to discuss various colonial issues. These
issues include controversies, power structures, injustices, and the idea of syncretism between the
colonizers and the colonized. A Passage to India focuses largely on using culture and liberal
humanism to explore issues of colonialism while Burmese Days mainly uses race and economics to
explore these topics. While the novels use different methods of exploration, both novels very
successfully take on the task of discussing the very colonial issues of controversies, power structures,
injustices, and syncretism.
One way that we can explore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea only further enforces power structures, as Europeans come to believe that, without them,
Indians would be incapable of completing small details and, therefore, unable to do any large,
important task correctly.
Along with cultural misunderstandings, religion is a major theme in Forster s novel. This starts very
early on in the novel when Aziz and Mrs. Moore meet for the first time in the mosque. Though Aziz
had just finished talking with his friends about never being able to be friends with a European,
especially a woman, the instant connection he has with Mrs. Moore seems to dissolve this feeling (21).
It seems as though, through her respect of him and her openness to speak with him and be civil, the
mosque becomes a sort of jumping off point for Aziz s friendship with Fielding later on in the novel.
The fact that this instant connection happened in a religious place should not be overlooked. I believe
that the location of their meeting symbolizes the supposed idea that religion can transcend all
differences.
Religion also facilitates the idea that, especially through Hinduism, everything can be united in love.
In a way, this is similar to the idea of liberal humanism in which, if everyone is treated as an
individual and approached with intelligence and goodwill, even those

Analysis Of Jack Londons For Build A Fire And His Wise...
In Jack Londons To Build A Fire, a stubborn man with no imagination and his wise dog set out on the
Yukon trail seeking out his camp in hopes to return and meet up with the boys. Being a chechaquo, a
new comer to the land (Dictionary.com, 2015), this was his first Winter. It was a clear day and yet
there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that made the day dark, and that
was due to the absence of sun. The face did not worry the man. (London, 629). The newcomer was
entering Winter temperatures in which he knew nothing of, reaching seventy five degrees below zero
and would soon be in a battle of man verses nature. But all this the mysterious, far reaching hair line
trail, the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all
made impression on the man. (London, 629). As the man travels on through the freezing temperatures
he is remind of advice from and old wise man, he had been warned of traveling alone and the dangers
that could come with someone making such decisions. The traveler was hopeful of making it back to
camp by six o clock, and an hour into his travels he is ready to stop and eat his lunch with pride in his
traveling progress. However, an hour into his travels the arrogant man was more concerned with
chewing his tobacco, than thinking of potential dangers despite his warnings, so he stopped for lunch,
never sharing with his only traveling companion, his loyal dog.

shot, I said, as my brother shot down the fighter we were tailing. We flew forward, and I glanced at the
radar. I turned to face the nearest enemy on the radar. However, I had pulled too hard on the turn, and
went spinning out of control. The plane did a barrel roll as I fought my way to stability. The

President Pierce And The Former President
Karolina and Anna approached the banquet table as fine ladies sat at the table and older men were
milling around the room puffing on their cigars and discussing politics.
Close to the table where Karolina and Anna sat down, several men were standing in a semicircle
around a short older bald headed man with only slight wisps of white hair. The older man was the
former president. Franz Sigil managed to include himself along with Anna s husband in the circle of
men surrounding the former president.

walked away putting his cigar out. The orchestra began to play a new waltz just arrived from Europe
and he walked back into the center of the ballroom as all of the men followed the former president into
the ballroom and rejoined their ladies at the banquet table.
Young ladies and gentlemen began to dance and swirl around the center of the ball room while
Karolina and her friend were approached by two distinguished ladies. They made their introductions
and inquired about Karolina, for they recognized Anna and her husband. They observed Karolina s
simple hairstyle and lack of jewelry. Anna proudly explained to them she was a friend from the Grand
Duchy of Baden and described the wedding of Princess Marie both attended back in Mannheim. The
two women were suitably impressed as Anna described the members of royalty they had seen. After
they left, Anna squeezed Karolina s hand and mouthed the words Thank you to her as other women
slowly came up to both them.
Karolina turned her attention back to the orchestra playing in the room as Anna repeated her story to
more and more of New York City s Society women. She recognized the music being played and

Literature Review On Seasickness
Chapter 2 LITERATURE REVIEW
2.0 Introduction
Seasickness is a terminology describing an illness that caused by an effect of motion, experienced by
an individual particularly at sea. Seasickness can be a serious problem for sailors. Not only does the
sick person feel terrible and become incapacitated, and therefore a problem too for others on a
shorthanded boat, but the dehydration that may result from repeated vomiting can become a medical
issue. About 90% of people will experience seasickness or motion sickness at some point in their
lives. If you re new to sailing, or have ever experienced nausea or dizziness on a boat, it s worthwhile
to take steps early to prevent seasickness. Once seasickness occurs, it s too late to do much more than
cope with it as best you can. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were a number of 19th and early 20th century attempts to develop anti motion sickness devices,
including an anti motion sickness belt manufactured by a Canadian company, a vibrating anti seasick
deck chair in which sitters imagine they are driving motor cars , advertised by the Hamburg American
Steamship Company, and most extravagantly the Bessemer Saloon a cabin modelled on the movement
of a compass and designed to maintain its stability independent from the movement of the ship.
The early 20th century development of air ships must have been a wonderful relief to the few wealthy
enough to travel in them. A detailed account by George Grant, a passenger on the ill fated Hindenburg,
stated that the movement of the Airship hardly varies. An occasional slight roll is therefore hardly
perceptible. Air sickness is quite unknown, a strong point which cannot be too strongly emphasized.
Unfortunately air ships have other issues and the famous Hindenburg Disaster of 1937 put an end to

The Importance Of Higher Education
Over the course of a student s education they are told by teachers, counselors, and family members
that college is the way to success. Students are told that college is the way to getting a stable job
which leads to a stable life. The price of a higher education is very high and continues to increase. An
average public in state college tuition in 1997 1998 was around 3,200 dollars a year. This school year
the average public in state tuition has risen to 10,700. The problem is that students are being told that
college is a necessity, but the price continues to rise, making it difficult for students to get a higher
education. The evolution of society and industry has made the attainment of a college degree less
attainable or necessary than in the past.
Higher level education has been made to look like a necessity. Most high school students are expected
to go to a college or university after they graduate. As stated in an online article, Close to 90 percent
of today s high school graduates are expected to attend college at some point in young adulthood.
(Supiano par. 1). This article also stated that most adults with children want their kids to go to college
(Supiano). Students should have different options to choose from and not be pressured into
committing to such a big decision. There are other options and students should be exposed to them
because they might find something they feel more comfortable with and that they might enjoy more.
Students should not feel like

  • 2. Importance Of Data Analysis Machine Learning Techniques Since the plasmapause location is a continuous variable, techniques like regression support vector machine (SVM), tree bagger, and neural network were used to construct the model. In this study, the plasmapause location derived from 2013 March RBSP data is used, which is 89 observational data in total. For neural network approaches, 70% of the electron density data were used as the training data sets, the 15% were used as the validation data and the final 15% as the testing data sets. As for the rest of the method, 75% of electron density data were randomly selected to train the data and the rest of the data were used as test datasets. After the model were obtained, the performances of the model were accessed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Case 1 refers to the eight parameters (Vsw, SymH, AE, AL, AU, Pressure, E, and Bz) without any manipulations. For case 2 and 4, the 12 hour moving average of Bz, symH and AE values were used instead of the real time values. This would add time history to these parameters. Meanwhile, in case 3 and 4, log10 of symH, AL and Bz were used instead. These parameters were selected for manipulation through a trial and error process as well as based on previous studies and understanding of the parameters. From Figure 2, it is clear that the values predicted by bagging, boost and neural network methods came very close to actual values. On the other hand, the SVM with radial basis function (RBF) kernel and SVM with 3 order of polynomial model generated a horizontal straight line, i.e. did not change at all. Similar trends (shown in Figure 4) were observed for the rest of the parameter sets. This shows that SVM has a poor performance in general as compared to other methods. Figure 4 illustrated the predicted values from each model using the input parameter from case 2 and the actual Lpp values. To further examine the performance of each technique, coefficient R and RMSE from each test case were studied carefully. The results were summarized in Table 1. Table 1 listed the RMSE and R from each model using different parameter sets. Parameter Sets Case 1: Original Case 2: Original with movmean on Bz, symH, E Case 3: Log10(SymH, AL, Bz) Case 4: Log10(SymH, AL, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution Essay On August 7, 1964, Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which authorized Johnson to take necessary measures to retaliate and promote the peace and security in Southeast Asia. Congress was definitely wrong in doing so. The results of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution were too chaotic and too violent to overlook. By 1964, the US desperate to contain communism had already sent troops to support South Vietnamese leader, Ngo Dinh Diem. Ngo Dinh Diem couldn t end communist infiltrations of the South; such infiltrations were otherwise known as the Viet Cong (South Vietnamese communist guerillas), who made their debut to the South in 1959. Diem did not receive loyalty and his rule was so deteriorated that he was overthrown and assassinated by several of his generals with the tacit approval of the Kennedy Administrations ¹ in 1963; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On August 2, they reported an attack by the North Vietnamese patrols; the destroyer USS Maddox was pursued and fired upon by three North Vietnamese torpedo boats. Maddox supposedly fired three warning shots prior to this and then overkilled the torpedo targets. In other words, the Maddox expended over 280 3 and 5 inch shells in the sea battle, ³ which resulted in one slightly damaged US aircraft and boat, three damaged North Vietnamese torpedo boats, and 10 North Vietnamese casualties. Following this minor attack was a second aggression on the 4th of August in which false radar images were found; thus, no real North Vietnamese torpedo boats were around the radar signals. Despite the second attack literally being nothing, Johnson asked congress for permission to defend US forces in Southeast Asia ⁴. The request was later passed by congress; otherwise known as the only aspect of the government that could approve of waging, according to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Graduation Day By Maya Angelou Forged by Pain In 1940, the United States approached the eightieth year anniversary of the abolition of slavery; however, the social oppression of African American citizens steadily increased. Despite being free for decades, they were still leagues below the white people who owned their ancestors. African American author Maya Angelou recollects on her experience of graduation from the eighth grade in her 1940 piece Graduation Day. The narrative not only highlights the importance of the narrator s graduation, but also the expectations of Angelou s community due to their persecution and separation. Perseverance through separation and persecution forges dignity in an individual. The separation of the African American displays the importance of graduation day. Angelou was only graduating from the eighth grade, but because of the sociocultural differences, graduation proved momentous in their community. Angelou later states Oh, it was important, all right. White folks would attend the ceremony, and two or three would speak of God and home, and the Southern way of life (Angelou, 2014, p. 181). The school making a minute event into a grand celebration conveys much about the state of the position African Americans were subjected to. Angelou displays this later when she describes the scene of small children presented in a play about buttercups and daisies and bunny rabbits and older girls preparing snacks and beverages. Normal society does not make such an event of Middle School ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Police Use And Excessive Force In most cases the police is permitted to use any form of necessary force to suppress a suspected criminal with minimal consequences if they use excessive force ( Police Use Of Force ). According to the current law all law enforcement officers should use only the amount of force necessary to weaken an incident, make an arrest, and protect themselves and others from harm ( Police Use of Force ). Officers receive guidance from their individual agencies, but no universal set of rules that governs when officers should use force and how much ( Police Use Of Force ). Police use of excessive force against the unarmed public should be illegal because it lowers the amount of unnecessary deaths, reduces riots, and would decrease racism. To begin the police has caused many unnecessary deaths throughout the United States. More than 920 people have been killed by the police in 2015 ( 5 Facts about Police Brutality in the United States That Will Shock You ). In Ferguson, Missouri 18 year old Michael Brown was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson. Mr. Johnson a witness at the scene, says that his friend was shot once from behind and then turned to face the police officer while raising his arms in the air. According to Mr Johnson, the officer fired several more shots at Mr. Brown before he fell to the ground ( Ferguson protests:What we know about Michael Brown s last minutes ). • 7. Australian Urbanisation Early 1900 s The process of urbanisation is a central feature of Australian history. By 1900 over two thirds of Australians were living in areas that were classified as urban. The growth of these cities was encouraged by various factors; the interaction and engagement of economic, demographic, political and social characteristics are definitely the key features that promoted the urbanisation of Australia. However, with the development of Australia came problems that people living in cities had to face. Environmental and health difficulties were to be over come in the city suburbs while economic depression followed after a period of prosperity and progress. Economic factors are fundamental in determining urban structure. Cities can be seen as a form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike in Britain, urbanisation had stimulated the growth of industrialisation. By the nineteenth century, Australia had a relatively affluent, well housed, well fed and a healthy population. The first increase in population occurred in 1830 when a bounty system, to catch escaped convicts, was introduced and immigration was assisted on a large scale. During the 1850 s the gold rushes bought the next influx of immigrants and Australia s population more than doubled over a period of ten years. In this time before 1860, population grew largely due to immigration rather than natural increase. In most urban areas a higher rate of population or an increasing degree of urbanisation may be gained through natural increase, from immigration or a sizeable movement from rural to urban areas. In Australia it was a merging of these three factors that encouraged urbanisation. Yet, over seas migration was the most important source of Australian metropolitan population growth, followed closely by natural increase. Rural to urban drift of population was much less important, except during the post gold rush periods. The demographic variables such as age structure, fertility, mortality, and marriage rates were also of considerable economic, social and political significance, advancing ... • 8. Violence In Venezuela Long has it been known that South America has more than its fair share of crime and violence. This was seen globally during the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics in the country of Brazil. Onlookers were horrified by the number of reports, and videos showing tourists being attacked and robbed by locals. Brazil is not the only country in South America that has a problem with violence though, due to widespread poverty many countries struggle to maintain lawfulness. One of those countries is Venezuela, a socialist country on the verge of complete societal collapse. Crime and with it, violence runs rampant through Venezuela, in large part because of a corrupt government that either refuses to acknowledge the problems or refuses to do anything about them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those supporters then use their leverage, power, and wealth to secure themselves and their families. This good old boy system leads to corrupt police, an unfair and politicized judicial system and many other problems that stem from the wrong people being placed in highly influential jobs. This can all be tied into the functionalism theory of sociology, where Venezuela can be thought of as a living organism. Government is one of six core systems in sociology, and is kind of like the central nervous system to the organism. If the government is not working properly, this can affect education, which in turn may affect family dynamics. This breakdown in one system leads to strain on the other systems of the organism, and it will eventually cause the whole to fail. The people at the top, those in the government have thus far kept themselves from feeling the burden of poverty and hunger. This however is unsustainable, and if the government is not properly preforming the job it was designed to do than it would need to be replaced. Just as a living organism would adapt a new and better system to continue living, so too will Venezuela adapt a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Lord Of The Flies Comparison Analysis Composers such as William Golding and J.J Abrams are able to employ various themes and ideas to convey important messages within their texts. These themes are often represented through the clever clever and concise use of descriptive language and symbolism. Golding s lord of the flies and Abrams Examples of this are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film Lost where Golding and Abrams are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and societies brittle shell which when put under pressure results in a descent into chaos and savagery. Golding is able to encapsulate paramount themes and ideas in the text through the use of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and symbolism. The preeminent matter in Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing and combative aspects of human nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the best and worst of society, civilisation vs savagery. An example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a conch and decide to use it to summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early on the underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use. This is an example of symbolism used to relate society s values with the islands. Golding uses symbolism to convey his message that society s state of governing and law is feeble and if people are put in certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Theme Of Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies I walked into my living room, ready to yell at my father for not lowering the volume of the television. He sat hypnotized on the couch as he stared at the CNN News headlines popping up on the screen. Only interested in stories with happy endings, I rolled my eyes at the 100 inch flat screen TV, where news reporters are constantly arguing with each other, debating the news of terrorist attacks, robberies, racism, and political corruption. This frequent bickering and arguing suggests that humans are born evil. Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, constantly brings up this theme of human nature. Twelve children are stuck on an island, and struggle with the decision to leave behind their morals and resort to a barbaric lifestyle in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is significant because it is very unexpected for the reader to see twelve innocent boys from England become barbaric cavemen and succumb to uncivilized tribal dances and murder. Golding shows in Lord of the Flies that when exposed to lack of authority, sanity and common sense start to disappear into thin air. The boys constantly bicker with each other instead of collaborating and listening to everyone s opinions. Initially, they set rules, have certain positions or jobs, and elect a leader like in a democracy. But as time passes, the boys start to break out of their good stage and embrace who they really are inside ‒ greedy savages. When Jack becomes violent and unruly, all order on the island begins to disappear. He abuses people and fights with others like cats and dogs. The conch, a symbol of power and order, is broken shortly after Piggy s death, which shows the disappearance of morality and merit. Simon s death and the need for power shows the corrupt nature of the boys, and thereby exemplifies that they are selfish. Lord of the Flies teaches us the importance of civilization and sanity, as they can disappear in the absence of authority and order. The study of Primatology focuses on the biological and psychological aspects of non human primates. Also it looks at the similarities shared between humans and primates. • 12. Endgame Play Essay On April 25th, I spent my Tuesday evening watching the production, Endgame, which is located in the Mason Hall of vertical building at 17 Lexington Avenue. Honestly, I was looking forward to this production because I ve never seen a play at the Baruch s vertical campus theater. I was also curious for the plotline of Endgame because I remember that Eric Krebs mentioned that this play was going to be very difficult to understand as it is meant for adults. After observing Endgame for about 75 minutes, I can undoubtingly conclude that it was one of the most confusing, but brilliant theatrical productions I ve ever watched. Endgame by Samuel Beckett focuses on the life of the two protagonist Hamm and Clov who live with both of Hamm s parents after an apocalyptic disaster. Throughout the play, Hamm continuously orders Clov, who is his servant, to follow routines such as opening the curtains, checking out of the window with a telescope, or moving Hamm s wheelchair to the middle of the room. Clov and Hamm would perform the same unfinished routines each day as if there is nothing much left to do as their endings are approaching. It is a way to show the audience, especially the older people, that death is going to occur, but it is still a scary thing to face. Isolation is another main point in the Endgame. The two protagonists have shown that even though there is constant bickering, they both needed each other. They are afraid of being alone, which is a common struggle many people deal with in life. I believe Krebs was correct because this was play that older people can definitely relate to. There was not any particular scene that spoke out to me because the entire play was indeed splendid. The ensuing seventeen years have culminated into some of the most turbulent, and crime ridden years in the history of New York City. Crack is the street name for a form of cocaine introduced in the mid 1980s. Crack is smoked, rather then sniffed through the nose, or injected, which are all other ways to use cocaine. Users of the drug inhale the vapors that are given off when the crack is heated (Berger pg.20). One was written by Bradbury, in the mid twentieth century , The Foghorn and the other was written by Dickens, The Signalman over one hundred years before. Both are based on supernatural themes and ideas. It is obvious that Dickens tale was written in the mid nineteenth century because his style of writing is very different to the more modern techniques writers employ today. From the outset the light house in the story is established as a desolated, mysterious place, cold, dark and dismal, as described when the narrator says : Out there in the cold water we waited every night for the coming of the fog . This immediately creates a cold dark atmosphere and prepares the reader for what is come. Straight away McDunn and the narrator are established as two isolated people, as described when the narrator says : Feeling like two birds in the grey sky, McDunn and I sent the light , Also when McDunn says: It s a lonely life . All of this imagery and description creates a powerful impression of how bleak and lonely the lighthouse is. The narrator in The Signalman is a mysterious man, like the signal man himself. • 19. Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first reading in the context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and change in an African village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are seen to be connected through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one applies Appiah s idea of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Okonkwo in Achebe s Things Fall Apart (who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of how his fate or destiny is conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although Okonkwo is a character of complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is his resistance to change. This resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose this personal resistance on a greater community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the failure of the personal over the communal in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels between people helping each other and people driving each other towards entropy. According to Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according to several of its divisions: One is the idea that we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch ... Anna proudly explained to them she was a friend from the Grand Duchy of Baden and described the wedding of Princess Marie both attended back in Mannheim. The early 20th century development of air ships must have been a wonderful relief to the few wealthy enough to travel in them. A detailed account by George Grant, a passenger on the ill fated Hindenburg, stated that the movement of the Airship hardly varies. An occasional slight roll is therefore hardly perceptible.
