Babe Ruth, Informative
Everyone has heard of the infamous Babe Ruth , but few people know that his birth given name is
George Herman Ruth, Jr. He lived from February 6, 1895 August 16, 1948, and was best known as
Babe Ruth and nicknamed the Bambino and the Sultan of Swat . Babe was an American baseball
player who spent 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) playing for three teams between the
years of 1914 1935. The most important points of Babe s life are his early childhood, his major league
baseball career, and the legacy that Babe left behind.
Ruth came from German American parents, Kate Schamberger Ruth and George Herman Ruth, Sr. His
parents owned a succession of saloons (bars) and sold lightning rods. Babe Ruth was one of seven

Babe s amazing pitching allowed the Red Sox to win the World Series again, four games to one. Ruth
extended his World Series consecutive scoreless inning streak to 29â…” innings, a recorded that would
last until almost fifty years later. Inly July 1918, Ruth walked off the field due to a dispute with the
manager, a mistake that would soon lead him to be traded to the Yankees. However Ruth wouldn t go
out without a fight. Ruth placed a curse on the Red Sox for trading him to the Yankees. The Red Sox
didn t win another World Series until 2004 (86 years later).
On December 26, 1919, Babe Ruth was traded to the Yankees. Several reasons such as Babe s
negative attitude and his demand for a double in his salary led his trade to the New York Yankees for
almost $2mil (in now a days dollars). Babe would stay with the Yankees from 1919 1935. During his
career with the Yankees, Babe Ruth emerged from a pitcher, to an all star hitter. In 1920, Babe hit 54
home runs and his .847 slugging average would remain a Major League Baseball record for over 80
years. The best year of Ruth s career was 1921, hitting 59 home runs, batting .378 and slugging .846.
Ruth also hit a record high of 139 home runs on July 18, 1921. Ruth s name soon became synonymous
with the term home run. Babe s powerful home runs went as far as 575 feet from the home plate.
Unfortunately, due to an injury, Babe was not able to play in a majority of the World Series against the
New York Giants. This led to the

Comparison Between Routine Activities Theory And Rational...
Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals make reasonable
decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual make these decisions based on their
best self interest. The major points of the Rational Theory are: Routine Activities Theory, Lifestyle
Theory and Rational Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that the circumstances of an
individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social interaction or activities. Therefore,
depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could ascend or descent (Williams and
McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine activities theory is basically the type of routine a person
keeps, based on his/her circumstances. Since everyone has different routine activities, some
individuals will be more prone to criminal attacks such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in
class. For instance, a young woman that works until 1 o clock at night, and walks home in the dark is
more vulnerable to be rob or sexual assaulted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They state that depending on a person s daily routine whether work or social activities, victimization
rate differentiate. (as cited in Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 239). For example, people that have a
higher status in society are at lower risk of victimization because they engage in less routine activities
and the places they hang around are saved. However, deprived individuals have a higher risk of being
victimized due to the environment and the interactions with criminals, as well as, the places they
frequent are unsafe, as talked over in

Buddhism, Hinduism, And Hinduism
Throughout human history, there have been thousands upon thousands of religions that have started,
ended, and are still being practiced today. Most of these religions are based off the belief in a god, or
have a moral code that they need to follow in order to appease their god or achieve salvation in the
afterlife. Three religions that will be highlighted here are Buddhism, Sikhism, and Hinduism. In each
of these three religions, they all share some religious tenets, or beliefs, that is universally accepted
amongst all religions around the world and throughout history. Some of these tenets include the belief
in a god or a Supreme Being. These religions also have similar moral values and a code to live by.
Finally, most of these religions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two different schools of thought in Buddhism, Theravada and Mahayana, which have
varying goals of life. They do, however, have a similar path to get to their ultimate goal in life. Most
of their path to get to a state of Nirvana, as the Theravada believes, comes through discipline.
Discipline comes from the Four Noble Truths, which also contains the eightfold path. The Four Noble
Truths are that there is suffering in the world, suffering in the world comes from desire, desire and
worldly attachments need to end for suffering to end, and there is a path to end suffering. The
eightfold path is actually the fourth noble truth. The eight practices include: right view or
understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, full effort, right mindfulness,
and meditation. This path is done to try to obtain wisdom and discipline on the way to spiritual
enlightenment. The enlightenment stage brings forth the next universal tenet, which is the afterlife.
The Buddhist school of Theravada believes in an afterlife called Nirvana, which literally means
blowing out or becoming extinguished. Nirvana is the liberation from the never ending cycle of rebirth
known as the samsara cycle where the believer becomes one with the Supreme Being. Nirvana is
similar to the afterlife in other religions in that once the believer reaches this final destination, it is said
to be a euphoric ending to the rebirth cycle. The third tenet that

School Lunch
Many of the students that eat school lunch believe that it is not very good. They believe that we need
better food. The school claims that the food is healthy, but according to most of the students that go
here the lunch is terrible. The school thinks that we need to eat healthier at school. They are trying to
make food healthy and not looking into the details, so they are still very unhealthy. For example one
food may be low in calories but high in sodium. As a school we need to come up with a better solution
to this problem. There are many possible solutions to getting better cafeteria food. Since the school
wants to make the food healthier we might be able to make healthy, better tasting food. We also could

The Dred Scott Case Against Slavery
In the 1780s, there was a question of whether slavery would be tolerable in new territories to threaten
the Union. Throughout the decades, many compromises were made to avoid disunion. But the
Constitution was not clear on this subject which created quite the discussion nationwide when raised
in 1857 before the Supreme Court in the form of the Dred Scott case. The Dred Scott decision was an
eye opener to Northerners that believed slavery was acceptable as long as it stayed in the South. If the
decision took away any power Congress once had to regulate slavery in new territories, slavery could
quickly expand into much of the western United States. Realizing that once slavery expanded into
those territories, it could quickly spread into the once free states. Many Northerners remained silent on
the issue, this very possibility was too scary to ignore. Northerners who had not previously been
against the South and against slavery began to realize that if they did not stop slavery now, they might
never again have the chance. The growing fear in the North helped further contributed to an ongoing
dispute between the two sides which eventually lead to the Civil War. A couple years after Chief
Justice Taney read Scott v. Sandford decision, half of the Union had seceded and the nation was
engaged in civil war. However, because of the passions it created on both sides, Taney s decision
certainly quickly accelerated the start of conflict. Even in 1865, as the long and bloody

Fukushima Inductive Argument
In his article, Why Fukushima made me stop worrying and love nuclear power , Monbiot (2012) uses
an inductive form to generate his first key argument to support his main claim that the impact of
nuclear energy on people and the planet is less significant compared to burning fossil fuel. His first
premise is from the Fukushima disaster incident that shows no fatal cases caused by radiation even
though the reactor was ruined. Furthermore, his second premise refers to the 1979 nuclear disaster that
occurred in Pennsylvania, where the radiation exposure within 10 miles is 1/625 of the maximum
yearly amount permitted for U.S. radiation workers, which is 1/80 of the amount which is deadly.
Therefore, he concludes that the death rates caused by radioactive pollution issue are relatively small
and the dangers of it were farfetched by the environmentalists. This is a weak inductive argument
because the premises may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his first premise, he stated that there was no death cases resulted from the nuclear meltdown.
However, after examining from other sources, one can realize that he has committed a Half truth
fallacy where the truth is told but several important key details are purposely omitted to support a false
conclusion. The data collected from Fukushima Prefecture, 2014 indicates up to 1,232 nuclear related
deaths which can be explained as later deaths as a result of diseases caused by the radiation
(MacPherson, 2015). Furthermore, to consider the dangers that the Fukushima disaster incident
contributed, one should take into account of other factors. One of such is the health of workers whom
are processing the aftermath surrounded by leftover radioactive water and it can be

Planned Change Of Maternal Child Health
Planned Change in Maternal Child Health For many years organizations have faced challenges in
trying to promote interdisciplinary team collaboration and shared governance. Many have attempted
the trial and error method with the use of different nursing care delivery systems to meet the concerns
of our ever changing healthcare world. A shared governance model is one professional practice model
used to improve nursing practice through collaboration of nurses, patients, and other care providers.
This model encourages professionals to have a voice and represents an avenue where staff can get
involved in how nursing care is delivered, and furthermore promotes collaboration between
professionals. The Maternal Child Health (MCH) unit at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The professional nurse is an asset simply because much of what drives success within an organization
is the fruit of labor. In order for this continued performance to strive it is necessary that an
organization be designed to allow professionals to participate in the practice and help shape the
environment in which patient care occurs which ultimately brings us back to this notion of shared
governance.
The goal for SLMC is to have a unit based interdisciplinary design with the use of a Collaborative
Care Committee (CCC) as a vehicle in implementing shared governance, and increase
interdisciplinary team collaboration. According to Suby (2012), shared governance models create
decentralized systems in which decision making lies with bedside staff nurses whose role becomes the
source of innovative solutions; the managers role is one of facilitation and support to assist staff
nurses in changing practice to better care for the needs of the patient . This CCC will allow for staff
nurses and nursing management as well as providers to work together to promote autonomy,
accountability, leadership and empowerment, all of which are elements of shared governance and also
important factors to address when trying to improve quality of care.
Alignment with the Organization s Values
Having the Collaborative Care Committee at SLMC would positively impact the organization by
promoting working conditions where employees would be motivated and satisfied

Investigating The Relationship Between Ph And Water Hardness
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the relationship between pH and water hardness.
Water samples from above the Mount Morgan mine site and below the Mount Morgan mine site were
also compared.
8.1 Analysis of the Data
It was hypothesised that the water sample from above the mine site would be of better water quality
than the sample from below the mine site. It was found that this was, in fact, the case. As seen in Table
7.2, the above sample had lower acidity, hardness and conductivity than the below sample.
Given that acidity is indicated by a pH of below 7, the below mine water sample was considered
acidic, at a pH of 4.92. Conversely, the above mine site sample had a pH of 7.35, indicating an almost
neutral profile.
The above mine sample had a conductivity of 2200 µS/cm, whereas the below mine sample had a
conductivity of 7500 µS/cm. This suggests that there are a significantly greater number of ions in
solution in below mine water than above mine water.
The below mine sample also had greater water hardness, with a calcium ion concentration of 5183.29
mg/L, compared with the above mine sample s hardness of only 115.02 mg/L.
The above mine water mostly exhibited water quality parameter values that aligned with the water
quality guidelines for fresh water. With an almost neutral pH of 7.35, meaning it is within the
recommended pH range of 6.8 9.5 and is also safe for consumption. The hardness (concentration of
calcium ions) of 115.02 mg/L also lies

Dr. Williams And Juan Case
In unit seven I was asked to review a case study video regarding Dr. Williams and his client, Juan. The
Dr. Williams and Juan case is intriguing because Dr. Williams s actions toward Juan and his family are
lousy and cringe worthy. Quick synopsis, Dr. Williams defy principles E and B stated within the APA
code of ethics. Principle E states that Psychologists must respect the dignity and worth of all people,
and the rights of individuals to privacy, confidentiality, and self determination. Principle B states that
Psychologists must establish relationships of trust with clients. The first mistake I recognized Dr.
Williams making pertains to his nonexistent eye contact towards his client, Juan. The sense of human

If I was hired or was recommend to handle Juan s case I would first begin by establishing trust
between me and Juan. It is crucial for me to establish a healthy relationship with Juan s parents two.
By establishing a healthy relationship between me and Juan and his parents lays down the foundation I
would need to successfully assign treatment. I can never underestimate a child s ability to comprehend
what I am saying. Children and kids are intelligent young beings especially due to how fast
technology continues to grow. To restate myself, I would first make sure Juan and his parents were
comfortable with my being. I believe by treating people like humans and not like representations of
money helps create the sense of trust I am looking for. According to Marjorie Adams, Organizations
with great customer or client relationships are able to grow their businesses without gimmicks, fee
cuts or special treatment. You have to be good at what you do, of course, but having a truly successful
business is based on one simple concept: trust. (Adams, 2014). Unlike Dr. Williams, I need to know
some backstory on Juan s health history. I would have no problem with Juan s parents wanting me to
contact Juan s physicians. Consultations must be involve in my therapy. Communication is heavily
underrated, and extremely important to a person understanding me and vice versa. I have a duty to
whole heartily help Juan to the best of my abilities and resources. According to the

Rifle Vs Spotting Scope Research Paper
Rifle Scope Vs Spotting Scope
When it comes to hunting, accuracy counts. You need to know that when you pull the trigger, you are
going to hit your target. If you do not, you will lose the capture. The same can be said for all other
forms of target shooting and the further away your target is, the harder it will be to hit your mark. That
is why there are so many who wonder which best, a rifle scope or a spotting scope. Perhaps it is here
that you will find the answer.
High End Rifle Scopes Vs a Spotting Scope

It is often a lot more stable to look through than a pair of binoculars or even a rifle scope because it is
designed to be used on a stationary tripod or some other stable surface.
Perhaps Use Both?
There are people who use both devices because they perform a different job. It is easier for many to
use the spotting scope rather than binoculars when they want to see over a long distance and it also
ensures that they are not possibly pointing their rifle at something they would not want to shoot.
There are also those people who feel that if you have a good rifle scope, you do not need to carry more
than absolutely necessary when you are out in the woods. They feel that their rifle scopes are just as
accurate as a spotting scope and that when they see a target, it is easier to use their rifle and shoot at it
rather than have to site it again. It all depends on how each individual feels about it.
How are They Most Useful?
A spotting scope is designed to be accurate while you are scanning the area for a potential target. Then
you can zero in on the target with your rifle scope and wait for a clear shot at it. They are easier to use
than binoculars and offer a very clear view of targets that are far

What Is The Theme Of Phaaethon And The Sun Chriot
Phaethon and the Sun Chariot
In the myth of Phaethon and the Sun Chariot, Phaethon often brags about the fact that is father is the
sun god, Helios. However, many other children doubt this and tease Phaethon. This bothers him, so he
demands that his mother, Clymene, give him proof of his paternity. Clymene reassures him, and sends
him from Ethiopia to India, where Helios lives. When he arrives, Phaethon is awed by the magnificent

close bonds with others in their family. This ensures that people always have someone who they can

human being for petty reasons. Taking someone s life is never justifiable unless having done so was
self defense. However neither Montresor, the main character of The Cask of Amontillado , nor the

Using The Cloud For Large Scale Data Storage
Abstract: In cloud computing and services with the rapid developments, there has been a growing
trend to use the cloud for large scale data storage. This has raised the important security issue of how
to control and prevent unauthorized access to data stored in the cloud. Access control is one of the
most important security mechanisms in cloud computing. By using the Role Based Access Control and
Attribute Based Access Control, security to the data stored in cloud is enhanced through the fine
grained access control policies. Attribute Based and Role Based Encryption techniques are used as the
main encryption primitive. Signature Based authentication is used to improve security. Fine grained
access control is provided with authentication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cloud aims to cut costs, and help the users focus on their core business instead of being impeded
by IT obstacles Cloud computing is so named because the information being accessed is found in the
clouds , and does not require a user to be in a specific place to gain access to it. The services are
offered from data centres all over the world, which collectively are referred to as the cloud. The idea
of the cloud is to simplify the huge network connections and computer systems involved in online
services. Cloud computing is a computing model, not a technology. In this model of computing, all the
servers, networks, applications and other elements related to data centres are made available to IT and
end users. Cloud computing is a type of computing that is comparable to grid computing. It relies on
sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle
applications.
Access control is generally a policy or a procedure that allows, denies or restricts access to a system. It
also monitors and records all attempts made to access a system. Access Control may also identify
users attempting to make an unauthorized access to a system. It is a mechanism which is very much
important for providing security. Various access control models are in use, including the most common
Mandatory Access Control (MAC), Discretionary Access Control (DAC) and Role Based Access
Control (RBAC). All these models are known as identity

Hurricane Development
Meteorologists have made the lives of the general public as simple as it can be by dividing the
development of a hurricane into four stages: tropical disturbance, tropical depression, tropical storm,
and a full fledged hurricane. During a tropical disturbance, water vapor from the warm ocean water
condenses to form clouds, which in turn discharges heat into the air. Additionally, the heated air rises
and is pulled into the column of clouds. The continued evaporation and condensation is what
constructs the cloud columns to be higher and grander. Nevertheless, a pattern develops whereby wind
begins to circulate around a center (much like water going down a funnel). The moving column of air
continues to combat more clouds, which in turn becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This results in the air at the top of the cloud column to cool and become volatile. Not only does heat
energy release from the cooling water vapor, the air at the top of the clouds becomes warmer.
Furthermore, air pressure increases and causes winds to move away from the high pressure area,
which causes pressures at the surface to drop. After this chaos, the air at the surface moves towards the
lower pressure area, rises, and creates more thunderstorms. A tropical storm, which is the last step
before becoming a full fledged hurricane and/or tropical cyclone, is when the wind speed reaches
thirty nine miles per hour. At this point in the formation of a hurricane, the storm is finally assigned a
name. During a tropical storm, winds simply begin to blow faster and turn around the eye of the storm.
It is during a tropical storm when a phenomenon known as the Coriolis effect, the opposite direction
of circulation, is recognizable. In the northern hemisphere, wind direction is counterclockwise (west to
east), while in the southern hemisphere, wind direction is clockwise (east to

Personal Narrative Essay Of A Baseball Team
I m sure you ve been told persistence is key, and believe that you can do something, not that you can t.
Well I m not going to show it to you, or tell you, I m going to prove it to you. The summer after 4th

was so many kids at our age group that wanted to play, the adults in charge had to split it up into 3
teams. All 3 teams had fair or average seasons. My team had the best of the 3, but it wasn t quite good
enough. We had had, just enough success, not as much as we would have liked. We found ourselves
barely sneaking into the tournament as the worst out of 8 seeded teams. We had to play against the
undefeated Watertown team in the first round. We were told we had no chance to win, and we believed
that too. The most I ve ever been wrong in my life was saying, we have no chance to beat them. Going
into that game we had convinced ourselves that we had already lost before it even started. We were
about as flat as a tabletop. While warming up we were pretty much just waiting for the game to end,

Kendall Jenning Pepsi s Share A Coke With The World
The intended purpose of the Kendall Jenner Pepsi Ad is for Pepsi to increase their sales with a
younger crowd. PepsiCo tried incorporating cultural and political views into their ad to influence the
Millennials to buy their product because the younger generation is involved and outspoken about the

PepsiCo is trying to make this advertisement the equivalent of Coca Cola s Share a Coke with the

To illustrate the advertisement, it shows a group of people protesting and no one knows the purpose of
this movement at all. It s just too vague and irrelevant to the commercial. At the present time of this
day and age, the news outlets and media portray the protests as negative pep rallies that are chaotic
and people attack the police. For the purpose of convincing the majority of the world s population that
the protests won t change a thing in today s political world. But there s a second side where people just

Water Is The Second Largest Reserve Of Freshwater On Earth
The earth is like a living organism; it thrives full of life with a fragile balance. This balance has been
thrown off by many different things. Water seems to be one of the biggest problems with this offset
balance. Water is a magic liquid keeping all of life thriving. Humans drink and use water, plants use
water, water is used in everyday life, and it s slowly being taken away. In the future, there will be no
water left to sustain life on earth. Ground water is a very important part of our fresh water supply and
yet, it s depleting at a faster rate than what can be replenished. According to Kally Worm Groundwater
is the second largest reserve of freshwater on earth. It also makes up 40% of the freshwater used in the
U.S. alone. This ground water is usually found in what is called an aquifer. An aquifer is found
towards the lower layers of the soil. The problem with these aquifers it that their recharge rate is slow
making it non renewable. These water supplies being non re We are overusing these water supplies.
When ground water is used to a level of where it can t recover, it affects the ground. Sinkholes can be
formed when there is a aquifer that has water being drawn from it, but not letting it get back to par.
Other problems can also occur is too much ground water is pumped out near coasts. This creates what
s called salt water intrusion. Salt water intrusion is when the ocean water mixes with the fresh ground
water. This increases the salinity of the water making

Affirmative Action Should Not Be A Program
Combat racism, with more racism. That is a strategy that seems so backward in thought that it should
not be a program in modern American government and yet is still very active today. Affirmative action
is defined as the practice of improving the educational and job opportunities of members of groups
that have not been treated fairly in the past because of their race, sex, etc (Merriam Webster).
Affirmative action creates a blatantly unfair advantage in college and job applications to non minority
races and is ultimately a racist law. Affirmative action is most prominent in the College admission
process, where its racial prioritizing is the most blatant. In 2005, it was found that the acceptance rates
for African Americans at MIT were 98.7% higher than the acceptance rates for Whites or Asians
(College Admission Officers). Affirmative Action was passed in 1961 by John Fitzgerald Kennedy to
combat racial tensions in college admissions and the workforce. It gave an opportunity to minorities
that may have been previously set back from racist laws and rules to have a chance at changing their
lives for the better. This artificial raising of minority opportunities has lasted for more than two
generations and has long outlived its purpose. Affirmative Action in its modern day use is racist at the
expense of the non minority race(s), and was meant for minority advancement in a world where it was
almost impossible. Today, all races are equal in the eyes of all the

Benjamin Franklin And Olaudah Equiano
Benjamin Franklin and Olaudah Equiano lived during the same time period. Franklin was one of the
founding fathers of the Untied States, and his commitment to making his country better was
remarkable. Benjamin Franklin wrote his autobiography from 1771 1791. Franklin passed away
before he was able to see his autobiography published in 1791. Olaudah Equiano was a young boy
when he was kidnapped and sold into slavery. He was forced to work on naval vessels and on
plantations in Virginia. Equiano published his interesting narrative in 1789. Franklin writes about his
life as a key figure of American civilization. Equiano writes about his life as a slave and abolitionist
against slavery. The autobiographies of Ben Franklin and Olaudah ... Show more content on

The authors also have different exigences for writing their autobiographies. Benjamin Franklin wrote
his autobiography to help citizens of America, and inform them on his life accomplishments. Franklin
wanted to help citizens prosper in their lives just like he did. Franklin gives tips and lays out ways to
be a better person throughout his autobiography. The main example of his exigence is the virtues he
explains. A few of the virtues Franklin explains are, Order Let all your things have their places; let
each part of your business have its time. Industry Lose no time; be always employed in something
useful; cut off all unnecessary actions. Tranquility Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common
or unavoidable. Franklin includes these virtues in his autobiography to provide the reader with ways to
become a more successful person in life. Franklin wanted to give readers of his autobiography an
outline of how to become successful in life through a few quick and easy steps. Olaudah Equiano s
main exigence or purpose for writing his autobiography is to provide the reader with knowledge of
slavery. Equiano wanted everyone to know how cruel slavery was, and how unfair and poorly slaves
were treated. He did this through telling his story as a slave during late 1700s. Equiano supports his

The Effect Of Wind Energy On Renewable Energy
Everyday witnesses increased demand in energy, which requires further investigations on available
sources of energy, especially renewable energy that was highlighted in the last decades as per
environmental and sustainability demand. Wind energy is one of the cleanest energies that received
the attention of researchers and investors because of its availability with low running cost. According
to the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA, 2015), wind energy is currently the fastest growing
source of electricity in the world, and wind power investment worldwide is expected to expand three
fold, from about $18 billion in 2006 to $60 billion in 2016.
Although the use of wind energy backs to more than hundreds of years (the wind wheel of Heron of
Alexandria in the first century AD is the earliest known instance of using a wind driven wheel to
power a machine (Drachmann, 1961; Lohrmann, 1995)), it is yet an immature and growing
technology. In recent years, coastal and offshore wind turbines are growing fast, as an attractive means
for clean energy production. Due to the nature of the wind in offshore regions, that are powerful and
more uniform than inland winds, offshore wind turbines can produce energy effectively (Musial and
Butterfield, 2006). It should be noted that the extracted energy is proportional to the cubic of the wind
speed which means an increase in wind speed has a significant influence on the amount of produced
energy. In addition, it is more cost effective to place

10 Christmas Movies that Won t Turn you Into a Grinch or Scrooge
Hundreds of Christmas movies have been made since the invention of motion pictures and are still
being made to this day. There are only a few that are considered Classics . What I consider classics are
the movies that families pull out every year to watch during the Christmas season. If you prefer more
recently made movies, there are many great movies that made it onto my list from the 90s and 2000s.
These are some of my favorite holiday movies that I watched every year since I could understand the
English language and that I still thoroughly enjoy today.
#10 A Christmas Carol (2009) This Disney animated movie is the newest version of the 1938 movie, A
Christmas Carol. The famous actor, Jim Carrey, voices Ebenezer Scrooge. Disney did a perfect job of
following the original storyline with Scrooge, the three ghosts, and all the other actors. This very
exciting film is also very popular in 3D. Because this film is directed by Robert Zemeckis, it is a
fantastic remake of an old, loved, holiday classic, yet some people still prefer the 1984 version.
#9 A Christmas Carol (1984) This Christmas movie is a version of Charles Dickens s famous 1800s
play and book, A Christmas Carol. This movie is one of the most accurate movies based on the play
and book, and never gets boring, because it of the action with all the ghosts. Because of this, I
consider this movie to be the original version although I know it

National Infrastructure Protection Plan For Implementing...
There are certain regulatory agencies that have oversite of the national grid. These agencies ensure the
power companies adhere to the rules and regulations set forth in enacted bills as well as employ
security best practices to limit the risk of intrusion from cyber attacks (Li et al., 2012). The federal
agencies that have the greatest amount of oversite on the power grid are the Department of Homeland
Defense (DHS), The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC).
Department of Homeland Security
DHS is tasked with creating a national infrastructure protection plan for all critical infrastructure in the
country. The plan is designed to ensure critical infrastructure is safe, secure and reliable enough to
prevent, withstand or neutralize deliberate efforts by terrorist to exploit or destroy the power grid (Li
et al., 2012). The plan also details procedures for strengthening national preparedness as well as
providing timely responses to cyber attacks. The goal of DHS is to ensure the power grid employs
static methods in its operations that allow it to quickly respond and recover from a catastrophic event
(Kuder et al., 2010).
Department of Energy
The DOE was established to organize disjointed regulatory processes and create a national energy plan
(Kuder et al., 2010). One of the main functions of the DOE is to monitor and report on the security of
the smart grid. The primary objective of the reports are to provide data that may be

It is a sacred place dedicated to the belief in life after death. The afterlife was a main focus of
Egyptian Civilization and ruled every aspect of the society. This is reflected in their architecture and

if the body was preserved from corruption and depredation as well as fed. This aspect was emphasized
in Perneb s tomb by two small obelisks (now missing) at the western corners of the courtyard. They
evoked the presence of the sun god Re who, especially in Perneb s time, was venerated as the ultimate
source of life in grandiose solar temples built around huge obelisks. Most importantly, the interior
rooms of the mastaba were places for the performance of life renewing rituals. Eternalized in the wall

Ideas are never at least fully one s own, but rather an expression of correlating thoughts in daily life
with one another. In John Patrick Shanley s Doubt, a Parable, readers are introduced to Father Flynn a
priest that conducts the sermons within the congregation, sermons form from the ideas he has
throughout his days. Each one containing a message that the congregation can take from and in at the
same time expressing himself through them. As the play progress readers see the conflict between
Father Flynn and Sister Aloysius, a nun that accuses him of sexual misconduct with one of the
students, become deathly strained as they the try to prove their certainties and oppositions against the
other. In Shanley s Doubt, the themes of doubt, intolerance, and gossip in Father Flynn s Sermons
relate to the combative relationship between Father Flynn and Sister Aloysius.
The first sermon that Father Flynn presents to the congregation is doubt, a theme that he believes
afflicts many of the those in faith. In his sermon Father Flynn tells the story of a sailor stranded at sea,
with only the stars guiding him on his raft towards shore. Since he was knowledgeable in the subject
of star navigation he believed that his directions were right, but as the days dragged on by he began to
become uncertain. The message of the sermon and story is that even if one believes their action to be

invention is necessary in order for any patent rights to exist in respect of it. An application is necessary
for registration. The Patents Act sets out the procedures and requirements involved in such an
application.
A patent is a right that is granted for any device, substance, method or process that is new, inventive
and useful. A patent is a legally enforceable right to commercially exploit the invention for the life of
the patent.

Diversity In English
The English language is constantly changing and adapting. There are so many different forms,
dialects, and accents etc. The way that they have evolved and become what they are currently is
perhaps the most interesting thing, even moreso that wondering what they might potentially become as
they continue to adapt to fit the time. I took a class this semester called Diversity and in this class we
discussed the idea of accents as way to stereotype people. We hear the way that one person speaks and
use that to determine things about them that we absolutely shouldn t. For example assuming that
someone with an accent you don t recognize or is hard for you to understand is less educated or has
less money. In that class we looked into more regional accents ... Show more content on

The way that AAVE is written conveys the same message as the educated passage but comes uses

The Learning Capabilities Through Video Games
The next topic we will cover is the part that we are most excited about. The console will have the
ability to educate and train students, military personnel, and police force. I will also be discussing the
various peripherals we have developed to aid in education and training.
We have gotten in contact with many different educators to ask what they thought about the learning
capability through video games. Video games are playing an increasing role in school curricula as
teachers seek to deliver core lessons such as math and reading not to mention new skills such as
computer programming in a format that holds their students interests. Some herald this gamification of
education as the way of the future and a tool that allows students to take a more active role in learning
as they develop the technology skills they need to succeed throughout their academic and professional
careers. (Malykhina 1) Most all of these educators had flashbacks to times when they played games
such as School House Rock and The Oregon Trail either when they were in school or while teaching
in their early years. We were reassured that they thought gaming could be used a pivotal tool in the
educating of young students. We developed the Ninesis Gaming System to link up as many controllers
as needed for a whole class; along with this we have developed a projector peripheral that links with
the system through Bluetooth that would be placed at the vertices between the wall and the

Consciousness In The German Ideology
Before one is able to consider this quote, the concept of materialism and consciousness must be
dissected. According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by
material activities, but also the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the powers
of production. Consciousness plays a large role in his definition of materialism, because they are
inherently connected. For example, The production of ideas, of conceptions, of consciousness is
directly interwoven with the material activity and the material relationships of men; it is the language
of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic process; in other words,
economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This differs greatly from Hegel s
idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes distinguishing between thesis
and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx utilizes the dialectic to analyze
materialism and consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes even further than Hegel and uses this
dialectic thinking to challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is important to understand the concept that the
process of thinking is actually a reflection of the external world through consciousness, because then
one can connect the idea that it is more of a relationship than an externalized object. Marx explains
this notion when he states, In the social production of their existence, men

Education Is The Most Important Part Of Every Human
Today, Education is the most important part of every human being in this world. But, how can a
developed country like the United States consider education as a privilege rather than a need. Today,
America is suffering from lack of workforce and education crisis. America s economy is collapsing
and it is losing to countries like china, Brazil, Russia, etc. because Americans are deprived of
education because of high college costs. High school graduates in America want to attend college but
when they attend college, either they drop out of college or they graduate but end up paying money for
student debt and loans throughout their life. According to Vermont senator Bernie sanders, today
Americans have a burden of 1.3 trillion dollars in debts and loans. This amount is much greater than
the amount of credit card. Because of lack of education, there is a huge income gap between the
wealthier and poor. America is called, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave , But how can a
country be the home of the brave if its people are not educated. To make America better and stronger,
education should be free for every U.S. citizen and so the public universities and colleges should be
free. A free education would enable every American to achieve the American Dream. It would fill the
income gap between poor and rich and would boost the economy of the nation. For a better

How Organic Food Is Better Than Buying And Eating The Non...
Introduction
In today s world, there is a lot of emphasis on the kind of food that we consume in daily routine. One
such issue claims that eating organic food is much better than buying and eating the non organic food
(D. Mosbergen July 2014). Certain studies point to the fact that the organic food that is available in
almost every market is the best healthy option available whereas others say that it is no good but a
tactical business strategy for increasing the sales of products labelled as Organic .
While surfing through the internet and also while reading newspapers, one can see the influence these
USDA approved label food item have on the general public. It has been in the controversy for a long
time about labelling a certain food item as organic. But, what really is organic. Some people are
misinformed about the organic food being the food that is resistant in a certain protein (for example,
Gluten free) or some other component of food (For example, B fatty acids, low fat). But as per the
USDA guidelines, foods are organic if they integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that
foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity (Wikipedia). As
one can make out from the definition, Organic food refers to avoidance in the use of synthetic
chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides; avoidance of much controversial genetically modified crops;
usage of farmland that is prohibited from the chemically synthesized

Henry David Thoreau And Ralph Waldo Emerson
Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson, a group of transcendentalists who brought great
ideals with them through the mid 1800 s. Their philosophy stated that people needed to stay true to
themselves and their own ideas, not those of society. One essay where Thoreau thoroughly exemplifies
this is in Civil Disobedience. Throughout this essay, Thoreau tries to show his point that even though
the government consists of more people, it will not always be correct. This means that the majority
does not always equal the better option and that if people go with what they think, then they will be
right. He asserts that anyone can constitute the majority of one and be the one person who draws
attention to an issue.
The NFL, the National Football League, where stars can shine doing what they love for millions of
fans, and where the NFL can create rules and policies every year to try and limit the freedom and take
control of it s players. It creates rules about what the players can and cannot wear, what they can do on
and off the field, and even when and where they have to speak. The more constraints the NFL puts on
the players, the more likely they will be to break them. In the past few years there have been more
movements against the NFL to try and earn some of the players rights back. Just as Thoreau presents
his and Emerson s ideas in Civil Disobedience, the players in the NFL still emulate their ideas by
being the majority of one (Thoreau).
A recent example of an NFL

A Comparison Of Davy Crockett And Jim Bowie
There are no better pair of pioneer men who shaped America more than Davy Crockett and Jim
Bowie. America wouldn t be the same without these two men who fought for its territories and its
people. Davy Crockett held many positions, but one role that stood out the most was his colonel
status, leading the Tennessee state militia. Jim Bowie however held the same rank but lead the Texas
militia. These two men were born to fight but each had their own uniqueness and strategy of fighting
and, it showed on their last day at the Alamo. Davy Crocket was born in Greene County, Tennessee in
1786. Davy was number five of six kids and his family was very poor. Davy and his parents didn t
exactly get along. His parents insisted he goes to school but he decided to drop out and run away to
travel the entire state and surrounding states by foot. He eventually found a town he fit in and became
one of the leading citizen s and was promoted to the head of the Tennessee state militia as a colonel.
As colonel his men and his superiors lead him to battles all over the southern country and finally to his
ultimate battle at the Alamo. Jim Bowie was born in Logan County, Kentucky in 1796. Jim was the
ninth kid out of ten and was born into a very weak; thy family. His family lived on a two hundred acre
plot with lots of livestock and several slaves. Bowie was a well educated men and set off on his own.
While traveling he built a strong reputation as a fighter and became famous for his fighting knife.

The Effect of Task Complexity on the Relation Between...
1. Introduction
In this study I want to look at the effect of task complexity on the relationship between team based
incentives and performance. I will thus try to find whether task complexity is a moderating variable in
the relation between incentives and performance and specifically try to find whether this effect differs
for individual incentives and team incentives.
When looking at incentive contracts in management accounting literature, usually theories from the
field of economics and psychology are combined. In some circumstances these theories can lead to
quite opposing predictions of the effect of incentives on performance. In general incentive contracts
are a decision influencing control tool used to make sure that people s ... Show more content on

For example Lazear (2000) empirically finds in a manufacturing environment that pay for
performance increases productivity with 44%. On the other hand Bonner et al. (2000) find that only in
about 50 percent of the experiments they examined, financial performance led to improvements in
productivity. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be
dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically in
their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task increases
(relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of incentives on
performance decrease. Bailey and Fessler (2011) also find that monetary incentives are more effective
when the task is less complex. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies on financial
incentives and performance Jenkins et al. (1999) find that financial incentives are generally related to
output quantity but not to quality. Furthermore, they find task type is independent of the relation
between financial incentives and performance. If the performance on a complex task is more difficult
to measure, the agent s effort thus has less influence on the performance measure (more noise, less
sensitivity) and the measure is less effective.
All the above studies are concerned with individual incentives. Apart from research on individual
incentives there is also a lot

Theodore Dalrymple s Summary Of What We Have To Lose
Damon Flueck Professor Marcos Arandia Introduction to Philosophy 8/10/17 After reading What we
have to lose By Theodore Dalrymple, I can conclude that it is a defense of civilization from barbarism.
Dalrymple puts forward his main arguments which many come from his own experience with details
and examples. Also, the article helps convey to the reader that the greatest threat to our great society
comes from within. Dalrymple s article helped enlighten me that today s society has grown so used to
civilization that it seems impossible to conceive that it is actually a delicate thing. Dalrymple s article
gives us an important lesson that even though we have countless amount of resources and technology
in today s world, society is not unconquerable, and it can vanish. Dalrymple s article has conveyed to
me that without civilization we wouldn t have any purpose in life , we would just be going around
killing each other for resources living like barbaric savages. An example of that would be when
Dalrymple s states civilization transcends barbarism, civilization was still worth defending. Indeed, it
is the only thing worth defending, because it is what gives, or should give, meaning to our lives. even
though we live in more efficient society, that doesn t mean something catastrophic can t happen again.
For example Dalrymple s was born around World War 2 when he was growing up, no one at that time
thought the holocaust could happen because how well establish Europe

Rodman Philbrick s Freak The Mighty
Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, is a very realistic book. It shows the unique friendship

Kevin s mom, and is the most caring mom you will read about. Gwen and Gram are both very

Correspondingly, every character is similar to another. Gwen and Gram are both moms, likewise they

is out of jail, Gram goes on alert. She tries to keep Max in the house at all times. If they stay on the
down low, then it will be harder to be found. This is her being protective of the whole family.
Similarly, Gwen is very protective of Kevin. He has a critical disability. Anything could happen at any
moment. This then leads to how protective Gwen can get. For example, when Kevin was rushed to the
hospital after chocking, Gwen was there before he was. Once he got there, she new exactly what had
happened. Gwen protected him from the staring and the questions that were harassed at him.
Comparatively, Gram and Gwen are both protecting something they love. Furthermore, acting with
reasons to their actions. The bonding of both also happens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when Kevin was supposed to clear he boxes out of his room. She went to tell him, but then decided to

  • 3. Comparison Between Routine Activities Theory And Rational... Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals make reasonable decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual make these decisions based on their best self interest. The major points of the Rational Theory are: Routine Activities Theory, Lifestyle Theory and Rational Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that the circumstances of an individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social interaction or activities. Therefore, depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could ascend or descent (Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine activities theory is basically the type of routine a person keeps, based on his/her circumstances. Since everyone has different routine activities, some individuals will be more prone to criminal attacks such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in class. They do, however, have a similar path to get to their ultimate goal in life. Most of their path to get to a state of Nirvana, as the Theravada believes, comes through discipline. Discipline comes from the Four Noble Truths, which also contains the eightfold path. The Four Noble Truths are that there is suffering in the world, suffering in the world comes from desire, desire and worldly attachments need to end for suffering to end, and there is a path to end suffering. The eightfold path is actually the fourth noble truth. The eight practices include: right view or understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, full effort, right mindfulness, and meditation. This path is done to try to obtain wisdom and discipline on the way to spiritual enlightenment. The enlightenment stage brings forth the next universal tenet, which is the afterlife. The Buddhist school of Theravada believes in an afterlife called Nirvana, which literally means blowing out or becoming extinguished. Nirvana is the liberation from the never ending cycle of rebirth known as the samsara cycle where the believer becomes one with the Supreme Being. • 6. The Dred Scott Case Against Slavery In the 1780s, there was a question of whether slavery would be tolerable in new territories to threaten the Union. Throughout the decades, many compromises were made to avoid disunion. But the Constitution was not clear on this subject which created quite the discussion nationwide when raised in 1857 before the Supreme Court in the form of the Dred Scott case. The Dred Scott decision was an eye opener to Northerners that believed slavery was acceptable as long as it stayed in the South. If the decision took away any power Congress once had to regulate slavery in new territories, slavery could quickly expand into much of the western United States. Realizing that once slavery expanded into those territories, it could quickly spread into the once free states. Many Northerners remained silent on the issue, this very possibility was too scary to ignore. Northerners who had not previously been against the South and against slavery began to realize that if they did not stop slavery now, they might never again have the chance. The growing fear in the North helped further contributed to an ongoing dispute between the two sides which eventually lead to the Civil War. A couple years after Chief Justice Taney read Scott v. Sandford decision, half of the Union had seceded and the nation was engaged in civil war. However, because of the passions it created on both sides, Taney s decision certainly quickly accelerated the start of conflict. Even in 1865, as the long and bloody ... Fukushima Inductive Argument In his article, Why Fukushima made me stop worrying and love nuclear power , Monbiot (2012) uses an inductive form to generate his first key argument to support his main claim that the impact of nuclear energy on people and the planet is less significant compared to burning fossil fuel. His first premise is from the Fukushima disaster incident that shows no fatal cases caused by radiation even though the reactor was ruined. Furthermore, his second premise refers to the 1979 nuclear disaster that occurred in Pennsylvania, where the radiation exposure within 10 miles is 1/625 of the maximum yearly amount permitted for U.S. radiation workers, which is 1/80 of the amount which is deadly. Therefore, he concludes that the death rates caused by radioactive pollution issue are relatively small and the dangers of it were farfetched by the environmentalists. A shared governance model is one professional practice model used to improve nursing practice through collaboration of nurses, patients, and other care providers. The professional nurse is an asset simply because much of what drives success within an organization is the fruit of labor. In order for this continued performance to strive it is necessary that an organization be designed to allow professionals to participate in the practice and help shape the environment in which patient care occurs which ultimately brings us back to this notion of shared governance. The goal for SLMC is to have a unit based interdisciplinary design with the use of a Collaborative Care Committee (CCC) as a vehicle in implementing shared governance, and increase interdisciplinary team collaboration. According to Suby (2012), shared governance models create decentralized systems in which decision making lies with bedside staff nurses whose role becomes the source of innovative solutions; the managers role is one of facilitation and support to assist staff nurses in changing practice to better care for the needs of the patient . This CCC will allow for staff nurses and nursing management as well as providers to work together to promote autonomy, accountability, leadership and empowerment, all of which are elements of shared governance and also important factors to address when trying to improve quality of care. • 9. Investigating The Relationship Between Ph And Water Hardness The purpose of this investigation was to determine the relationship between pH and water hardness. Water samples from above the Mount Morgan mine site and below the Mount Morgan mine site were also compared. 8.1 Analysis of the Data It was hypothesised that the water sample from above the mine site would be of better water quality than the sample from below the mine site. It was found that this was, in fact, the case. As seen in Table 7.2, the above sample had lower acidity, hardness and conductivity than the below sample. Given that acidity is indicated by a pH of below 7, the below mine water sample was considered acidic, at a pH of 4.92. Conversely, the above mine site sample had a pH of 7.35, indicating an almost neutral profile. The above mine sample had a conductivity of 2200 µS/cm, whereas the below mine sample had a conductivity of 7500 µS/cm. This suggests that there are a significantly greater number of ions in solution in below mine water than above mine water. The below mine sample also had greater water hardness, with a calcium ion concentration of 5183.29 mg/L, compared with the above mine sample s hardness of only 115.02 mg/L. The above mine water mostly exhibited water quality parameter values that aligned with the water quality guidelines for fresh water. With an almost neutral pH of 7.35, meaning it is within the recommended pH range of 6.8 9.5 and is also safe for consumption. The hardness (concentration of calcium ions) of 115.02 mg/L also lies ... The services are offered from data centres all over the world, which collectively are referred to as the cloud. The idea of the cloud is to simplify the huge network connections and computer systems involved in online services. Cloud computing is a computing model, not a technology. In this model of computing, all the servers, networks, applications and other elements related to data centres are made available to IT and end users. • 16. Hurricane Development Meteorologists have made the lives of the general public as simple as it can be by dividing the development of a hurricane into four stages: tropical disturbance, tropical depression, tropical storm, and a full fledged hurricane. During a tropical disturbance, water vapor from the warm ocean water condenses to form clouds, which in turn discharges heat into the air. Additionally, the heated air rises and is pulled into the column of clouds. The continued evaporation and condensation is what constructs the cloud columns to be higher and grander. Nevertheless, a pattern develops whereby wind begins to circulate around a center (much like water going down a funnel). The moving column of air continues to combat more clouds, which in turn becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This results in the air at the top of the cloud column to cool and become volatile. Not only does heat energy release from the cooling water vapor, the air at the top of the clouds becomes warmer. Furthermore, air pressure increases and causes winds to move away from the high pressure area, which causes pressures at the surface to drop. After this chaos, the air at the surface moves towards the lower pressure area, rises, and creates more thunderstorms. A tropical storm, which is the last step before becoming a full fledged hurricane and/or tropical cyclone, is when the wind speed reaches thirty nine miles per hour. At this point in the formation of a hurricane, the storm is finally assigned a name. During a tropical storm, winds simply begin to blow faster and turn around the eye of the storm. • 20. Water Is The Second Largest Reserve Of Freshwater On Earth The earth is like a living organism; it thrives full of life with a fragile balance. This balance has been thrown off by many different things. Water seems to be one of the biggest problems with this offset balance. Water is a magic liquid keeping all of life thriving. Humans drink and use water, plants use water, water is used in everyday life, and it s slowly being taken away. In the future, there will be no water left to sustain life on earth. Ground water is a very important part of our fresh water supply and yet, it s depleting at a faster rate than what can be replenished. According to Kally Worm Groundwater is the second largest reserve of freshwater on earth. It also makes up 40% of the freshwater used in the U.S. alone. This ground water is usually found in what is called an aquifer. An aquifer is found towards the lower layers of the soil. The problem with these aquifers it that their recharge rate is slow making it non renewable. These water supplies being non re We are overusing these water supplies. When ground water is used to a level of where it can t recover, it affects the ground. Sinkholes can be formed when there is a aquifer that has water being drawn from it, but not letting it get back to par. Other problems can also occur is too much ground water is pumped out near coasts. This creates what s called salt water intrusion. Salt water intrusion is when the ocean water mixes with the fresh ground water. This increases the salinity of the water making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Affirmative Action Should Not Be A Program Combat racism, with more racism. That is a strategy that seems so backward in thought that it should not be a program in modern American government and yet is still very active today. Affirmative action is defined as the practice of improving the educational and job opportunities of members of groups that have not been treated fairly in the past because of their race, sex, etc (Merriam Webster). Affirmative action creates a blatantly unfair advantage in college and job applications to non minority races and is ultimately a racist law. Affirmative action is most prominent in the College admission process, where its racial prioritizing is the most blatant. In 2005, it was found that the acceptance rates for African Americans at MIT were 98.7% higher than the acceptance rates for Whites or Asians (College Admission Officers). Affirmative Action was passed in 1961 by John Fitzgerald Kennedy to combat racial tensions in college admissions and the workforce. It gave an opportunity to minorities that may have been previously set back from racist laws and rules to have a chance at changing their lives for the better. This artificial raising of minority opportunities has lasted for more than two generations and has long outlived its purpose. Affirmative Action in its modern day use is racist at the expense of the non minority race(s), and was meant for minority advancement in a world where it was almost impossible. • 23. The Effect Of Wind Energy On Renewable Energy Everyday witnesses increased demand in energy, which requires further investigations on available sources of energy, especially renewable energy that was highlighted in the last decades as per environmental and sustainability demand. Wind energy is one of the cleanest energies that received the attention of researchers and investors because of its availability with low running cost. According to the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA, 2015), wind energy is currently the fastest growing source of electricity in the world, and wind power investment worldwide is expected to expand three fold, from about $18 billion in 2006 to $60 billion in 2016. Although the use of wind energy backs to more than hundreds of years (the wind wheel of Heron of Alexandria in the first century AD is the earliest known instance of using a wind driven wheel to power a machine (Drachmann, 1961; Lohrmann, 1995)), it is yet an immature and growing technology. In recent years, coastal and offshore wind turbines are growing fast, as an attractive means for clean energy production. Due to the nature of the wind in offshore regions, that are powerful and more uniform than inland winds, offshore wind turbines can produce energy effectively (Musial and Butterfield, 2006). It should be noted that the extracted energy is proportional to the cubic of the wind speed which means an increase in wind speed has a significant influence on the amount of produced energy. In addition, it is more cost effective to place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you prefer more recently made movies, there are many great movies that made it onto my list from the 90s and 2000s. These are some of my favorite holiday movies that I watched every year since I could understand the English language and that I still thoroughly enjoy today. #10 A Christmas Carol (2009) This Disney animated movie is the newest version of the 1938 movie, A Christmas Carol. The famous actor, Jim Carrey, voices Ebenezer Scrooge. Disney did a perfect job of following the original storyline with Scrooge, the three ghosts, and all the other actors. This very exciting film is also very popular in 3D. Because this film is directed by Robert Zemeckis, it is a fantastic remake of an old, loved, holiday classic, yet some people still prefer the 1984 version. #9 A Christmas Carol (1984) This Christmas movie is a version of Charles Dickens s famous 1800s play and book, A Christmas Carol. According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by material activities, but also the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the powers of production. Consciousness plays a large role in his definition of materialism, because they are inherently connected. For example, The production of ideas, of conceptions, of consciousness is directly interwoven with the material activity and the material relationships of men; it is the language of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic process; in other words, economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This differs greatly from Hegel s idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes distinguishing between thesis and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx utilizes the dialectic to analyze materialism and consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes even further than Hegel and uses this dialectic thinking to challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is important to understand the concept that the process of thinking is actually a reflection of the external world through consciousness, because then one can connect the idea that it is more of a relationship than an externalized object. Certain studies point to the fact that the organic food that is available in almost every market is the best healthy option available whereas others say that it is no good but a tactical business strategy for increasing the sales of products labelled as Organic . While surfing through the internet and also while reading newspapers, one can see the influence these USDA approved label food item have on the general public. It has been in the controversy for a long time about labelling a certain food item as organic. But, what really is organic. Some people are misinformed about the organic food being the food that is resistant in a certain protein (for example, Gluten free) or some other component of food (For example, B fatty acids, low fat). But as per the USDA guidelines, foods are organic if they integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity (Wikipedia). • 42. Henry David Thoreau And Ralph Waldo Emerson Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson, a group of transcendentalists who brought great ideals with them through the mid 1800 s. Their philosophy stated that people needed to stay true to themselves and their own ideas, not those of society. One essay where Thoreau thoroughly exemplifies this is in Civil Disobedience. Throughout this essay, Thoreau tries to show his point that even though the government consists of more people, it will not always be correct. This means that the majority does not always equal the better option and that if people go with what they think, then they will be right. He asserts that anyone can constitute the majority of one and be the one person who draws attention to an issue. The NFL, the National Football League, where stars can shine doing what they love for millions of fans, and where the NFL can create rules and policies every year to try and limit the freedom and take control of it s players. It creates rules about what the players can and cannot wear, what they can do on and off the field, and even when and where they have to speak. The more constraints the NFL puts on the players, the more likely they will be to break them. In the past few years there have been more movements against the NFL to try and earn some of the players rights back. Just as Thoreau presents his and Emerson s ideas in Civil Disobedience, the players in the NFL still emulate their ideas by being the majority of one (Thoreau). A recent example of an NFL ... • 44. The Effect of Task Complexity on the Relation Between... 1. Introduction In this study I want to look at the effect of task complexity on the relationship between team based incentives and performance. I will thus try to find whether task complexity is a moderating variable in the relation between incentives and performance and specifically try to find whether this effect differs for individual incentives and team incentives. When looking at incentive contracts in management accounting literature, usually theories from the field of economics and psychology are combined. In some circumstances these theories can lead to quite opposing predictions of the effect of incentives on performance. In general incentive contracts are a decision influencing control tool used to make sure that people s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example Lazear (2000) empirically finds in a manufacturing environment that pay for performance increases productivity with 44%. On the other hand Bonner et al. (2000) find that only in about 50 percent of the experiments they examined, financial performance led to improvements in productivity. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically in their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task increases (relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of incentives on performance decrease. Bailey and Fessler (2011) also find that monetary incentives are more effective when the task is less complex. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies on financial incentives and performance Jenkins et al. (1999) find that financial incentives are generally related to output quantity but not to quality. Furthermore, they find task type is independent of the relation between financial incentives and performance. If the performance on a complex task is more difficult to measure, the agent s effort thus has less influence on the performance measure (more noise, less sensitivity) and the measure is less effective. All the above studies are concerned with individual incentives. Apart from research on individual incentives there is also a lot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Theodore Dalrymple s Summary Of What We Have To Lose Damon Flueck Professor Marcos Arandia Introduction to Philosophy 8/10/17 After reading What we have to lose By Theodore Dalrymple, I can conclude that it is a defense of civilization from barbarism. Dalrymple puts forward his main arguments which many come from his own experience with details and examples. Also, the article helps convey to the reader that the greatest threat to our great society comes from within. Dalrymple s article helped enlighten me that today s society has grown so used to civilization that it seems impossible to conceive that it is actually a delicate thing. Dalrymple s article gives us an important lesson that even though we have countless amount of resources and technology in today s world, society is not unconquerable, and it can vanish. Dalrymple s article has conveyed to me that without civilization we wouldn t have any purpose in life , we would just be going around killing each other for resources living like barbaric savages. An example of that would be when Dalrymple s states civilization transcends barbarism, civilization was still worth defending. Indeed, it is the only thing worth defending, because it is what gives, or should give, meaning to our lives. even though we live in more efficient society, that doesn t mean something catastrophic can t happen again. For example Dalrymple s was born around World War 2 when he was growing up, no one at that time thought the holocaust could happen because how well establish Europe ...
