Staff development Programme: Underlying principles
11. DCU Pilot phase (Sep-Dec 2019)
● DCU’s focus: technology-enhanced assessment (TEA)
● Why assessment?
● 4 work packages:
○ Staff Development Programme
○ Development and Maintenance of Online Resources
○ Ongoing Technical Enhancements for the VLE (Moodle)
○ Communications and Dissemination
12. Crowd-sourcing an OER
Why create a resource?
● To support work of the EDTL project @ DCU
● Many academics wedded to ‘traditional’ forms of assessment
● Difficulty conceptualising alternative assessments
● Bank of exemplars/case studies can support move to
alternative assessments
13. Crowd-sourcing an OER
Why crowd-sourcing?
● Draw on community knowledge and
experience
Why an OER?
● Aligns with Teaching Enhancement
Unit OPEN practice and our personal
philosophies
● Allows for continuing development Image by Mariana Anatoneag from Pixabay
14. Crowd-sourcing an OER
How? Co-creating live online
The silence as participants work online
independently can be uncomfortable.

15. Crowd-sourcing an OER
Our Approach
● Relaxed and fun, music & spot prizes
● Scaffolding through discussion/review live
contributions
● No pressure to contribute - participants
invited to simply browse if they wish
● Inviting contributors to discuss their
exemplar in the webinar without pressure
