The Battle Of Midway Saw The Sinking Of The Japanese Carriers
The battle of Midway saw the sinking of the Japanese carriers, Akagi; Soryu; Hiryu and Kaga as well
as the cruiser Mikuma. The American navy lost one carrier which was the USS Yorktown. The Battle
resulted in the deaths of 2500 Japanese navy men and 307 deaths to the American navy. The Japanese
had lost invaluable sailors in the battle as the crew on board the aircraft carriers were highly trained
and had many years of experience working on the complex carriers.(Source E) So when the Japanese
started to build new aircraft carriers they found that it was difficult to appoint crew has many had not
enough experience, this heavily delayed and cost the Japanese as by this stage the American army had
begun their campaign in taking back the islands the Japanese had taken over months before. Since
1930 the Japanese conquests with the Chinese had cause ever increasing friction with the US. From
the early 1940s America had banned exports of strategic materials such as scrap iron and metal to the
Japanese Empire, then in 1941 they lead and oil embargo and froze all of the Japanese assets. This had
huge effects on the Japanese Empire as they imported 90% of their oil. Because of this the Japanese
leadership made the decision to invade and take over neighbouring territories and take their resources
which Japan lacked. But before this could be done they faced a great and powerful obstacle, the
American naval fleet at Hawaii s Pearl Harbour. And thus this lead to Japan s attack on Pearl

Homeland Security Master Goal
I have held several positions throughout my life. The knowledge and experience that I have acquired
has played an intricate part in molding me into the person I am today. For most of my life I have
always been driven to achieve. I am always setting goals for myself, long and short term and stay
committed to achieving these goals. I feel that you must hold yourself accountable to your
commitments and pursue what drives you. To say that you are going to accomplish something is one
thing, but staying committed and actually achieving the goal is a true testament of perseverance.
Commitment is not just a word, it is a chosen way of life. Sometimes this comes with many sacrifices
and hard work that can only be surmounted by inner drive and ... Show more content on

One of my most important goals is having the knowledge and skill set to make a difference. The
ability to analyze security related problems and develop sound solutions can only be gained through
education and experience. This degree program will provide me the ability to project my thoughts
regarding security concerns with a rationale yet credible solutions that are supported by experience
and knowledge obtained from this higher level of education. The Master s Degree program will
enhance my ability to analyze weaknesses in our national security and develop problem solving skills
that are required to be successful in today s ever evolving security within FPS and the Department of
Homeland Security. The development of the Interagency Security Committee (ISC) that has
established security standards for our government facilities is invaluable. If ISC standards would have
been implemented in the past, many horrific tragedies would not have occurred at our federal
facilities. It is imperative that these standards are improved upon to meet the security demands of the
future. This can only happen through continued education and commitment to enhancing our security.
The completion of this degree program will provide me the necessary skills to improve all aspects of
security not only as a commander within FPS but in all areas of DHS. I will have accomplished my
goal, but more importantly strengthened a nation that relies on keeping one step ahead of a security
breach within our critical

Essay Ravenna
Located in northeast Italy in the Emilia Romagna region and the capital of the province bearing its
name, Ravenna is internationally celebrated for its stunning ancient mosaics and rich history. Ravenna
s prosperous past is evident in its wealth of still standing examples of Byzantine art and architecture.
Positioned near the Adriatic Sea on a marshy plain, Ravenna has served as a strategic ?capital three
times: of the western Roman Empire, of Theodoric King of the Goths, and of the Byzantine Empire in
Europe? (History, par. 1). By delving into Ravenna?s history, as well as its remarkable artistic
achievements, the reasoning behind its popularity in tourism becomes clear.
Ravenna was formed by the buildup of centuries of silt deposits ... Show more content on

The surrounding marshes provided a natural line of defense and its location at the crossroads of the
northern and southern peninsula made it exceptionally challenging to capture. These were all
influences in its allure as a bastion of control.
?The exact date of Roman control remains a mystery, as much of Ravenna?s past, although the first
record of a Roman fleet to reach the city was in 82 BC. Caesar chose Ravenna as his headquarters
while negotiating with the Senate and later as his base when launching various military campaigns on
surrounding areas. While there, he is thought to have begun construction on the port of Classe
(initially known as Classis), which served as the catalyst for Ravenna s first rise to greatness. Emperor
Octavius Augustus oversaw the port?s completion and, realizing its strategic location, made the port
the principal base for a fleet, 250 ships strong, to defend the ?Adriatic Sea and the waters of the near
eastern Mediterranean (History, par. 9). Augustus also created a canal, known as the Fossa Augusta,
linking the port to the southern branch of the Po. This canal permitted waters to flow around the city
walls to fortify Ravenna?s defense and through the center of the town to facilitate transport and
commerce. With the port as the focus of the city, Ravenna flourished as a town of trade and industry
(especially ship building). Though the port?s value waned by the sixth century

A Further Analysis Of Report Of Wild Children Essay
Another important factor that plays a role in the development of the monster and feral children is the
presence of abuse and trauma. Abuse and trauma play a role in the development of the creature and
feral children because it affect their cognition, behavior, their idea of self worth, and their ability to
connect with others. Wayne Dennis s essay, A Further Analysis of Reports of Wild Children , asserts
that because of being in conditions of constant stress and threat [from abuse and trauma], children may
have trouble utilizing their cognitive skills (155). Furthermore, Dennis asserts that because of the
conditions that the children experienced they exhibited behaviors that can be only be conveyed as
erratic and volatile (153). In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are also true for the monster. The presence of abuse and trauma during the development of the
monster affected his cognition, behavior, his idea of self worth, and his ability to connect with others.
The monster having experienced abuse and trauma from his interaction with humans before, he
become traumatized with violence. This is highlighted when he saw Felix was about to strike him for
the second time he was overcome by pain and anguish, [he] quitted the cottage (Shelley 95) to escape.
Furthermore, his behavior also becomes erratic and volatile. This is shown when he wished to tear up
the trees, spread havoc and destruction, and then sit down and enjoy the ruin (Shelley 95) after his
interaction with the De Laceys. In addition, it is evident that his perception of himself is as a wretch ,
even saying All men hate the wretched; how then must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living
things! (Shelley 67 68). Finally, because of his experience with the barbarity of man , he is very
cautious when approaching other people. This was displayed when he longed to join [the De Laceys],

Metamorphosis And The Stranger
The existence and purpose of human live has always posed a question for society. To answer this
question, philosophers ponder Existentialism. Existentialism is the philosophy that humans exist for
no true purpose and that each individual changes essence in his or her lifetime by finding meaning in
life through freewill, choice, and personal responsibility without certain knowledge of right and
wrong. This theory gained popularity in the mid 1900s after WWII caused many people to lose hope
in an ordered world and accept that no cosmic justice exists. According to this theory, no absolute
rules govern humans lives. This theory appears throughout literature and offers a grim perspective on
human existence. The Metamorphosis, written by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Meursault cannot find a solid place in society. He lives alone due to the death of his
mother. Society cannot accept the manner in which Meursault addresses his mother s death. Since he
thinks that Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, [he doesn t] know (Camus 3), society believes
that he does not care that his mother dies. Everyone judges him because he does not relate to the rest
of the people. Meursault receives immense criticism at his trial concerning his murdering another
man. At his trial, Meursault can feel how much all these people [the jury] hated (Camus 90) him. The
jury does not commend him or even regard him with understanding about his mother s death. Some
people react to death without actually reacting to it; Meursault subconsciously chooses to do so but
receives condemnation. Both characters experience isolation from society.
The characters also think illogically without true reasoning. When Gregor transforms into a large
beetle, his first thought is not how to fix his situation. Rather, he thinks to himself, How about if I
sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense (Kafka 7). He does not search for a solution or ask
for help but finds sleeping an appropriate response. Later, he continues by concluding that his bug
state is a result of getting up early all the time (Kafka 7) because it makes you stupid (Kafka 7). While
not sleeping enough surely does cause people to become tired and the

Dbq What Drove The Sugar Trade
DBQ Essay What Drove the Sugar Trade?
Beginning in the late 1600s and continuing through the 1700s the demand for sugar became incredibly
high due to its addictive qualities. To supply the consumers with sugar they were craving, wealthy
Europeans established sugar plantations throughout the Caribbean and built a thriving slave industry,
so their need for cheap labor could be satisfied. Sugar consumption increased from 4.6lbs to 16.2lbs
per capita annually from 1700 to 1770 due to the increasing addiction of the consumers. Since the
demand was so high, the manufacturers were faced with maintaining a high crop yield, but luckily the
Caribbean islands provided an ideal location for growing cane sugar. Once plantations were

Due to the efforts to colonize the Caribbean islands, by 1750 they were almost all owned by Spain,
France, or England, meaning these countries now had access to and control over this area that they did
not previously; they took advantage of this newfound power (Doc 1). Sugar requires a specific climate
to grow plentifully (i.e. 68° 90°F) and this was something the Caribbean islands provided the
Europeans with; if European countries had not had taken control in the Caribbean islands the sugar
industry would not have survived (Doc 2). At this time, the Caribbean islands were the only location
that the Europeans had access to that provided the correct climate. The landscape was ideal and led to
a high crop yield and without it the consumers would be at a loss (Doc 8). Through the 1700s and into
the 1800s, in Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Domingue, and Cuba, sugar production rates escalated, but this
vast increase was made possible only by the natural conditions of the Caribbean islands (Doc 10).
Still, not only consumer addiction and access to a prime location were able to drive the sugar industry
alone, labor was

Perspective is everything. Many would argue that perspective doesn t matter; that perspective is just
some deep psychological nonsense that one does not need. Clearly that is not the case at all. It s only

In the Tedtalk, Perception Is Everything, by Rory Sutherland. The advertising guru, Sutherland,
explains Our perception is leaky. We can t tell the difference between the quality of the food and the
environment in which we consume it. All of you would have seen this phenomenon if you have your
car is washed or valeted. When you drive away, your car feels as it drives better. And the reason for
this, unless my car valet is mysteriously changing the oil and performing work which I m not paying
him for and are unaware of, is because perception is in any case leaky. So if you do something that s
perceptional bad in one case, you can damage the other. Anyone s perception can be fixed. Some
gentlemen may think after a car wash their cars perform better but is that really the case? No, the car,
after is cleaning, is now perceived as higher quality, therefore, it performs at a higher level, which then
leads to the perception that the quality of life one lives has evolved. A clean car just makes anyone feel
better. With this information one can know start acknowledging that our perception of ourselves
matters because it can be leaky or fixed. The point is that some of the people out there may not be the
clean car therefor one may feel they don t perform at the same intensity as the cleaner ones. One may
have been born in poverty and therefor

The Battle of Gettysburg brought the dueling North and South together to the small town of
Gettysburg and on the threshold of splitting the Union. Gettysburg was as close as the United States

America s future. Michael Shaara tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg through the eyes of the
generals and men involved in the action of the battle. The historical account of the Battle of

Shaara, through his commentary on General Lee, explains that Lee did not want to fight the war but
had to. Lee felt it was his duty to fight for his fellow countrymen, but not for a cause, land, or slavery.
So it was no cause and no country he fought for, no ideal and no justice. He fought for his people, for
the children, and the kin, and not even the land, because the land was worth the war, but the people
were, General Lee says (Shaara 263). General Lee fights for himself and has no choice but to fight,
knowing in the end that he might be wrong with his cause and pay the price someday. General Lee is
not a proponent of war, but he will serve his country with honor and duty if necessary.
A man of ideals and honor represent the character of Union Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Being a man
of education, Chamberlain knows the demeaning and repulsive nature of slavery and has come to fight
to end it. Chamberlain hates the whole idea of the Civil War and the death and destruction that goes
along with it. I used my brother to plug a hole. Did it automatically as if he were expendable, says
Chamberlain (Shaara 304). He hates the idea that men, including his brother, are dying out in the fight
for slavery. The only reason he believes in the Civil War is that if he the North did not fight freedom
would be tarnished and a great travesty would occur. Chamberlain is not a man of war and blood and
doesn t relish war and its qualities. The idea of war in general to

The documentary Sick Around the World has really opened my eyes about the United States health
care system. The diversity of health care systems in other countries would make individuals think that
the United States would have thoughts of changing a majority of their policies. The information given
in the documentary was factual and useful to my knowledge. The information also provides me with
ways I could approach my future career in health care, which is epidemiology. As an epidemiologist,
disease would be my main focus point which produces an impact on individuals. More disease, equals
more health care and more expenses. In this paper, I intend to include details about the documentary,
present an analysis of what was shown, and express my reaction to the video. In this informative
documentary, it concentrates on 5 particular countries and explores ways each country provides
healthcare to their citizens. Even though the policies and regulations are different from the United
States, does that necessarily mean their ways are more beneficial? The author helps to explain and
break the concept down for the viewers. For example the first country the author represented in the
video was Great Britain. Here, the government run Nation Health Care System has all of its citizens
covered which means no medical bill and no one has to file bankruptcy. For a better understanding of
how healthcare is paid for, British citizens pay for health care out of tax revenue. Even though Great

Tragedy in Antigone by Sophocles and Blackfish
Karl Marx, the German philosopher, once said History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.
For me, this quote clearly describes the overarching relationship between Blackfish and Antigone.
This analogy starts with Antigone, written about an oppressed woman against the fists of tyranny. That
early in history woman s rights was often taboo at places, and democracy was only recently
established. Yet, Antigone went against the norm by focusing on a heroine that challenged male
authority and nobility, thus making it revolutionary. Now, an unbelievably eye opening documentary,
Blackfish has been produced about a company despot that values money over life and recognition over
morals. In this story, the life of a killer whale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blackfish, on the other hand, was created with the goal to change society in mind, and did this by
pressing a recent, overlooked problem to the audience. As this was set in current times, it directly
affected many of us. My own money has been used for SeaWorld and its attractions, and after finding
out how they have used the money, it has helped accredit for some of my new found dissent towards
the company. As a documentary, it presented many graphic and touching scenes that were awfully
traumatic. These powerful scenes struck nerves for many, as it was hard to take in, and have helped
Blackfish garner national and international attention. Sadly, many people still don t know what is
happening behind the scenes, and are still being exploited because of this. I am thankful for Blackfish,
as it will ensure that I won t ever be taken advantage of by SeaWorld. By using strong examples and
imagery to prove a point against a nationally acclaimed and visited company, Blackfish has swayed
me, alongside my heart, to choose it as more impacting.
More important than historical backgrounds or impacts to society (for me), is how both stories
impacted myself. Antigone started by opening my eyes to the calamities of Greek drama. It gave me
crucial insights to the lives of the past people: the ever lasting importance of religion from their eyes,
and the fight for

The Restoration Under Charles II Essay
The Restoration Under Charles II Generally, the English people had a great celebration when Charles
II returned to the throne in May of 1660.1 Many believed that restoring the monarchy was the only
way to secure constitutional rights. In fact, there was an expectation that bringing back the king would
return life to the way it was before 1642 and the rule of Cromwell. Charles II was responsible for
improving the government for the people. However, despite some achievements, the king was not very
successful in creating a stronger and more effective monarchy. He was dependent on his advisors and
other parts of the government from the very beginning of his reign. There were constant conflicts

This council consisted of English men who held public office or owned extensive amounts of land.
Smaller committees within the council made all the major decisions.3 The king looked to the Privy
Council for help in solving the country s problems. Clarendon s main objective for the council was to
lessen the power of Parliament. Since the king relied a large deal on the council for making decisions,
Parliament did not meet as often.4 Clarendon also knew that the militia was a major part of
government, but he wanted to keep the army small. He knew that a large army would make the people
nervous about an absolutist monarchy. A small militia kept the country safe from a possible foreign
attack.5 There was one main issue that Clarendon and Charles disagreed on very strongly: religious
tolerance. Clarendon believed in using coercive acts to eliminate dissenters. However, Charles did not
want to persecute people with different religious beliefs if they were not causing problems for
England. In April of 1660, he put these ideas into effect with the Breda Declaration. This declaration
was the first of many signs that Charles was impartial to Catholics. Parliament, however, sided with
Clarendon on this conflict. In 1661, Parliament passed the Act of Uniformity. The act ended all
tolerance for Presbyterianism and forced all of its followers to agree to everything in the Anglicans
Book of Common Prayer. Parliament also refused to accept the king s

Tell Tale Heart And The Monkey s Paw Comparison
The horror genre is often used for entertainment, but occasionally important life lessons can be found
within the tales. The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and The Monkey s Paw by W. W. Jacob s are
two such stories that have much to say when digging more deeply into their pages. The Tell Tale Heart
tells a story of a deranged man who becomes obsessed with his elderly neighbor s blind eye, leading to
him killing the old man and burying the body beneath the floorboards. The Monkey s Paw is a story
about a family that comes to possess an ancient relic that will supposedly grant three wishes. A
careless wish leads to the son s death, and consequent horrors ensue. The Tell Tale Heart has a theme
of Guilt may lead people to their undoing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader is left wondering whether or not the paw really can give wishes and what the Whites might
wish for, relating to the first part of the theme. Mr. White s son, Herbert, suggests they wish for two
hundred pounds in order to pay off their house (Jacobs 109). This begins to showcase the theme as it is
revealed what they are wishing for. When Herbert turns up dead and the family gets 200 pounds as
compensation, this also develops the theme because they got what they wanted, but at a cost (Jacobs
112). At the end of the story, another wish is made for [their] son to be alive again (Jacobs 115). Soon
after, there is a knocking at the door and the reader may assume that is Herbert back from the dead.
However, if it is, Herbert is very likely mutilated due to the nature of his death (Jacobs 114).
Therefore, at the last moment, Mr. White makes a final wish for his son to be gone. The theme is
developed throughout this because although the Whites got what they wanted (money and then
safety), it came at the expense of their son s life and absence

Thirteen of American colonies severed their political connection to Great Britain. The Declaration

Pablo Picasso Essay
Who was Pablo Picasso?
Pablo Picasso (1881 1973) is commonly considered to be one of the greatest twentieth century radical
European surrealist and cubist painters and sculptors to have lived, if not the greatest modern artist
that Spain has ever produced.
His prolific portfolio included experimentation in everything from printmaking to ceramics, although
oil painting was for most of his career his primary medium. His extensive legacy in popular culture
and fine art, particularly in abstract geometry and use of color, is extensive and incomparable to all but
a few other titans of modern art.
He was identified as a child prodigy and was admitted at the age of just 14 to Barcelona s School of
Fine Art. Over the following eight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This overlapped with his transition into using warmer brown and red palette colors and his shift away
from depicting depressing themes to a more neutral stance, both of which defined his Rose Period
(c.1904 1907). Picasso s work during these years is still generally considered to be proto cubist, as it
included some semi realistic elements and geometry.
Picasso s interest in African (particularly African Tribal) influences is usually considered something of
a brief flirtation that formed a stepping stone to his lifelong infatuation with depicting subversive
cubist geometries. His experiments with African themes are considered to have concluded by the start
of 1910, in favour of focusing on developing his (then) more successful 1908 experiments in
Analytical Cubism into a coherent genre of painting. Nevertheless, Picasso never entirely abandoned
his interest in Africa. Some much later work such as the painting Musician (1972) can be said to
contain the same influences.
Certainly, the enduring influence of some elements of the African Period on Picasso can be seen
throughout the work that followed on from it. This is particularly so in Picasso s approach to facial
structure and depiction of the human body after 1909. One of his most highly regarded paintings, Les
Demoiselles d Avignon (1907), also emerged as an iconic work from his exploration of tribal African
depictions of the human form.

Clara Schuman Impact On Society
In an era where only men got to do things that weren t housework and motherhood women s rights
were practically nonexistent, Clara Schuman performed in public and composed, something that
women in her time never did. She was the main interpreter of her husband s work, but she also played
an important role in reintroducing eighteenth century music to the public. Unfortunately, her

Glasspro, Inc. Outline The Differences
Life is riddled with choices: paper or plastic, chocolate or vanilla, Android or iOS. When it comes to
windshield replacement, however, deciding between OEM and aftermarket glass can be a bit more
involved. So which option is right for you? Below, the Cincinnati, OH auto glass experts at GlassPro,
Inc. outline the differences.
OEM
An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) windshield is often fabricated by the original windshield
manufacturer and will be nearly identical to the one that rolled off the assembly line. Though, because
car manufacturers often switch glass companies mid run, there is a chance that your OEM windshield
will be made by a different glass company.
Regardless, an OEM windshield will be manufactured according to specific

The Changing Of Mind By Nicholas Carr
The Changing of Minds
The advancement of technology emblematizes humanity s intelligence and capacity to conceptualize
what has not been done before, expand humanity s capability, and strive to improve the place we
inhabit. We sometimes fear the advancement of technology because it s new and uncharted territory .
Technology undeniably and unarguably defines our world, and choosing to hide from technology and
the role it plays in our world, only hinders the leadership capabilities of those who will soon lead this
nation. Nicholas Carr, in Is Google Making Us Stupid? , describes how technology changes how we
think, and consequently, the way we learn and process new information.
Each major technological advancement, like writing, the clock, ... Show more content on

It can be beneficial to allow us access to a wide variety of information we, otherwise, would not have.
However, we should also be careful to not develop an overdependence on technology. If we become
entirely reliant on technology, and remain incapable of doing tasks on our own, without understanding
the concepts and ideas we are making decisions with, then we are not leaders. We are simply a person
using a tool and hoping that we get the right outcome. If we learn how to properly manage the use of
technology, then we become a leader and a tactician, someone who knows both what they are doing
and how to use the technology at hand. The leader that is capable of that, will push the army forward
to fight the type of war our world is pushing towards. Maybe this technological advancement is, as
Carr argues, the one that has gone too far that will drain us of who we are and cause us to become
pancake people (Carr 580). But until we are able to determine whether or not the internet is as harmful
as it is believed to be, cadets need to learn how to effectively use technology to be prepared for the
world that we will enter into when we

John Lewis Walking With The Wind
We need it to steer us all where we deserve to go in the next. John Lewis writes a short, factual story
about one of his childhood experiences titled: Walking With The Wind. He relates this event to civil
circumstances and social inequalities. His message is that people need to battle the storms or arising
disaster as a collective instead of individually. Not only will rising above the issue be much easier as a
group, the next problem that appears will be more manageable. This essay critiques his use of
imagery, vocabulary, sentence structure and voice in regards to how his writing fits the message.
Imagery is a very prominent part of Walking With The Wind . Examples of some well done imagery
within the piece are: a place of thick, pine forests and white cotton fields and about fifteen of us
children were outside my Aunt Seneva s house, playing in her dirt yard . While these quotations do not
fit well with the theme, the images ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Walking With The Wind , the author often used in long, eloquent sentences as a tool to paint images
across the readers mind. An example of this is: The sky began clouding over, the wind started picking
up, lightning flashed in the distance, and suddenly I wasn t thinking about playing, I was terrified.
Lewis also used long sentences to better convey the metaphore the story inspired. More than half a
century has passed since that day and it has struck me more than once over these many years that our
society is not unlike the children in that house, rocked again, again by the winds of one storm or
another, the walls around us seeming at times like they might fly apart is an example of a metaphorical
sentence. Short, choppy sentences are usually used to both make a point, and create a rapid, tension
filled scene. Examples of this are: And we did. And we still do, all of us. You and I and We were
scared. Even Aunt Seneva was scared. And then it got

What Is A Fairy Trip Essay
One sunny day, I found myself in a strange city on a mountain covered with something white and
cold. Everything started when I was reading a story about fairy creatures in a forest. While I was
reading, I wished to have a chance to go to the forest and met them. Unfortunately, when I wished
that, one of those fairy creatures achieved my wish. There was only one problem with that, and the
problem was that it is hard to go back home again. Thus, my journey trying to go back had started.
What I needed was a magician, who could give me the wishes box, and so, I would be able to go home
again. Luckily, I had my smartwatch, which could help me think of what to do. Pico, my smartwatch,
told me that the magicians from the Fairyland are brilliant enough to find a wishes box for me. Thus, I
set off to the Fairyland to find the most masterful magician in the world, Mr. Wise Man.
Being there, I had a chance to see how fairies could live above all those years. I realized that those
creatures are clever although they are smaller than us. They worked hard to do their work and
organized everything. They traveled in magical crafts and lived in houses that could shrink to the size
of small capsules. So, they can hide from the human world. Their streets were astonishing as they
were rainbows, and their children and guests used clouds as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wise Man, who preferred to live alone. Finding him was like looking for a needle in a haystack. No
one helped me because they were all afraid of me because my appearance sounded not familiar to
them. While I was there, it was rumored that a Mr. Evil came to fairyland. Pico told me that the Mr.
Evil was an old and strong man, whose job was to hunt fairies. The rumors developed that Mr. Evil
became a man, who could grow smaller and became a child. So, he can hunt fairies without raising
any suspicion. Anyway, who Mr. Evil was, I did not love that he was fairies hunter. I am NOT hunter!

Masculine Bravado in Death of a Salesman and A Streetcar...
What is it to be a man? Masculinity is defined and characterized differently across cultures and time
there is no global standard. In some cultures, being a man may mean being comfortable with both your
masculine and feminine sides or it could suggest being tough and not letting your feelings show at all.
Manliness can be demonstrated in some cultures by providing for a family through work, and in
others, it might mean scoring the winning goal in a championship game. It is not an easy thing to
define an entire gender based on the arbitrary set of ever changing social and cultural norms, but
somehow it still happens. Trying to define one s own masculinity and live up to its standards is a
tough and grueling task that many men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, with both in the sales industry, it s easy for them to turn on that charismatic charm and
sell not only their ideals, but themselves in the form of their winning personalities (Cardullo 29).
Stanley Kowalski is the typical hyper masculine example of a man in the late 1940 s to early 1950 s.
He is described by his sister in law as an ape (Williams 121), he is abusive towards his wife, and he is
the breadwinner of the family he literally brings home the meat and throws it at his wife to catch and
cook. Masculinity itself is not a character flaw, but when expressed with such ferocity it can become a
crutch and unflattering. Stanley displays his manliness in several different ways throughout the play,
something that the author Tennessee Williams did on purpose to reflect on the societal norms of the
time and to do so in a questioning manner. The manliness that Stanley has is not one that is kept tamed
and unleashed in appropriate moments, but is a type that is constantly wanting people to know that he
is the king (Williams 138) of his home and family. By asserting his dominance, Stanley is showing
how masculinity can be a force that drives one to do absurd things in order to keep up a façade. Willy
Loman s disposition is not as boisterous as Streetcar s anti hero, Stanley, but is instead more internal
and self reflective. His views of masculinity arise from the

The Impact Of Gandhi On American Society Through Martin...
Most Americans know little about Hinduism and few imagine that the values of Hinduism had any
influence on the development of American society. But what little they do know of Hinduism is most
likely derived from their knowledge of Mahatma Gandhi. Few Americans realize that Gandhi s
teachings and life s work had a tremendous impact on the development of American society during the
Civil Rights Movement.
Mohandas K. Gandhi, known to the world as The Mahatma, or the Great Soul , brought a great gift to
the modern world. That gift was the light of Non Violence, of Service to the Community and of Social
Justice. His life served as an example and this light became a torch which illuminated our world and

I started thinking about the fact that twenty million of my brothers and sisters were still smothering in
an air tight cage of poverty in an affluent society. As I thought about this, I finally said to myself,
‘Yes, I am an untouchable, and every negro in the United States is an untouchable. In 1959, Dr. King

Before the Melting Pot by Israel Zangwill
A lot of what we read today about out history, is told to us through wartime victories and tragedies,
slavery, and political power. The book, Before the Melting Pot gives a great account of how much
ethnicity factored into these ideas and how New York City was made into the melting pot of culture
we see today. The book starts out in New Amsterdam, detailing the importance of The Dutch West
India Company and its importance in trade; including the African slave trade. The citizens of New
Amsterdam had little to no say in governmental decisions. At times, there were citizen advisory boards
created, and a director general that made decisions, but for the most part even these issues were at the
mercy of the Dutch West India Company s control. More specifically, the commander and ruler named
Peter Stuyvesant was the director general that made all the Dutch West India Company s decisions in
New Netherland, until the English took over power. The book goes into detail about the people over
the courses of their lives, more specifically, three different generations of men starting with those
present at the English acquisition of New Netherland in 1664, the sons of these men who stayed in
New York City, and then their grandchildren. She also discusses the French, the Jews; Dutchmen
already present there, Africans, and Englishmen. The Dutch had little to no trouble getting along
because the culture was already established there, and community was bound by religion, and the

Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior

Hey fatty lose some weight. Do you think this sound like a mother who is superior? According to the
Western idea of what good parenting includes this would be intolerable, but if you consider this from
an Eastern point of view this wouldn t be wrong or abnormal. In additional it seems that Chinese
parents can get away with things that Western parents can t which alludes to talk about two different
child rearing methods which only has one thing in common they do what they think is best for the
child. Amy Chua is an ardent supporter of the eastern way of bringing up children and exposes some

They worry about how their children will feel if they fail at something, and they constantly try to
reassure their children about how good they are notwithstanding a mediocre performance on a test or
at a recital. In other words, Western parents are concerned about their children s psyches. Amy Chua is
also elaborating on her claims using evidence of what she s arguing for. By doing this she seems more
truthful and convincing basically because she substantiates her claims. What Chinese parents
understand is that nothing is fun until you re good at it. To get good at anything you have to work, and
children on their own never want to work, which is why it is crucial to override their preferences As a
consequence hereof the receivers and readers of her article sense that much of the information we are
given comes from a personal view and knowledge. Therefore the text is heavily influenced by the
author s subjectivity. She strongly grants favour to the Chinese method which can outrage the readers
because she is communicating to a Western culture and assaults the Western way of handling
upbringing. However Amy Chua manage to make use of the logos appeal which she does by the
provision of statistics In one study of 50 Western American mothers and 48 Chinese immigrant
mothers, almost 70 % of the Western mothers said either that stressing academic success is not good
for children or that parents need to foster the idea that learning

The Importance Of Living In A Small Town
Living in a small town is an enjoyable, yet bittersweet experience. I grew up in Winnemucca, one of
the smallest towns in Northern Nevada. The town is unknown to the majority of people who reside out
of its state. I can certainly say that my hometown has been influential on my upbringing. However, my
family has played and continues to influence me as a person. Though small, Winnemucca and my
family has undoubtedly had a huge impact on my growth and has made me into the person I am today.
My family is small, yet incredibly loving and caring. Though my parents have struggled and
sacrificed, they have provided many things to my brother and me; they have always supported us. For
me specifically, this includes giving me the gift of having a buoyant childhood. My regular day, in my
childhood and throughout my teen years consisted of math problems, reading, writing, and art
projects, playing games with my brother outside, basketball, hiking, volunteering, and doing activities
typical small town offers. I will forever appreciate the environment I grew up in because it taught me
to appreciate the little things. I craved one thing though: adventure.
I am lucky enough to say I have had adventures with my family before. I have memories of my family
and I going on trips to islands, our ancestral home in India, and other foreign nations/lands. Still, after
all the journeys, I craved more. But as I grew up more, I concluded that if I am with my family, I will
always be happy. They are my

crimes. For example, Ricky and Tre drive away from the party on the street, and two crooked black
and white policemen pull them over. The black policeman, Officer Coffey, has both Ricky and Tre

Officer Coffey retorts, You think you tough? He then pulls out his gun, points it at Ricky s face, and

the crime of simply driving while being black. There are some who still struggle to succeed in
everyday life, but do not result to alcohol or violence; these few can still go on to be successful, but
often still have to deal with discrimination and violence. Take, for instance, Ricky; he struggles
educationally, but does not result to alcohol or violence to deal his problems. His approach to succeed

Gifts On A New Dad s Christmas List Analysis
When I was younger, I was always asked what I wanted for Christmas. It was like clockwork, every
year, around the same time, and I never knew what to say. Don t get me wrong, I thought about things
like shoes, even music, but it always felt like I didn t deserve it. Why should I ask for something when
I don t appreciate the gifts I receive on a daily basis? All the things that happen in a day that you don t
notice, all those things you overlook, are presents, so powerful, we don t deserve. All the people that
you talk to today, may not be there tomorrow. Everyone says anything can happen but do we fully
understand the depth of that statement, how true it can be. The idea of losing someone without a

  • 2. The Battle Of Midway Saw The Sinking Of The Japanese Carriers The battle of Midway saw the sinking of the Japanese carriers, Akagi; Soryu; Hiryu and Kaga as well as the cruiser Mikuma. The American navy lost one carrier which was the USS Yorktown. The Battle resulted in the deaths of 2500 Japanese navy men and 307 deaths to the American navy. The Japanese had lost invaluable sailors in the battle as the crew on board the aircraft carriers were highly trained and had many years of experience working on the complex carriers.(Source E) So when the Japanese started to build new aircraft carriers they found that it was difficult to appoint crew has many had not enough experience, this heavily delayed and cost the Japanese as by this stage the American army had begun their campaign in taking back the islands the Japanese had taken over months before. Since 1930 the Japanese conquests with the Chinese had cause ever increasing friction with the US. From the early 1940s America had banned exports of strategic materials such as scrap iron and metal to the Japanese Empire, then in 1941 they lead and oil embargo and froze all of the Japanese assets. This had huge effects on the Japanese Empire as they imported 90% of their oil. Because of this the Japanese leadership made the decision to invade and take over neighbouring territories and take their resources which Japan lacked. But before this could be done they faced a great and powerful obstacle, the American naval fleet at Hawaii s Pearl Harbour. And thus this lead to Japan s attack on Pearl ... • 3. Homeland Security Master Goal I have held several positions throughout my life. The knowledge and experience that I have acquired has played an intricate part in molding me into the person I am today. For most of my life I have always been driven to achieve. I am always setting goals for myself, long and short term and stay committed to achieving these goals. I feel that you must hold yourself accountable to your commitments and pursue what drives you. To say that you are going to accomplish something is one thing, but staying committed and actually achieving the goal is a true testament of perseverance. Commitment is not just a word, it is a chosen way of life. Sometimes this comes with many sacrifices and hard work that can only be surmounted by inner drive and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of my most important goals is having the knowledge and skill set to make a difference. The ability to analyze security related problems and develop sound solutions can only be gained through education and experience. This degree program will provide me the ability to project my thoughts regarding security concerns with a rationale yet credible solutions that are supported by experience and knowledge obtained from this higher level of education. The Master s Degree program will enhance my ability to analyze weaknesses in our national security and develop problem solving skills that are required to be successful in today s ever evolving security within FPS and the Department of Homeland Security. The development of the Interagency Security Committee (ISC) that has established security standards for our government facilities is invaluable. If ISC standards would have been implemented in the past, many horrific tragedies would not have occurred at our federal facilities. It is imperative that these standards are improved upon to meet the security demands of the future. This can only happen through continued education and commitment to enhancing our security. The completion of this degree program will provide me the necessary skills to improve all aspects of security not only as a commander within FPS but in all areas of DHS. I will have accomplished my goal, but more importantly strengthened a nation that relies on keeping one step ahead of a security breach within our critical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay Ravenna Located in northeast Italy in the Emilia Romagna region and the capital of the province bearing its name, Ravenna is internationally celebrated for its stunning ancient mosaics and rich history. Ravenna s prosperous past is evident in its wealth of still standing examples of Byzantine art and architecture. Positioned near the Adriatic Sea on a marshy plain, Ravenna has served as a strategic ?capital three times: of the western Roman Empire, of Theodoric King of the Goths, and of the Byzantine Empire in Europe? (History, par. 1). By delving into Ravenna?s history, as well as its remarkable artistic achievements, the reasoning behind its popularity in tourism becomes clear. Ravenna was formed by the buildup of centuries of silt deposits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The surrounding marshes provided a natural line of defense and its location at the crossroads of the northern and southern peninsula made it exceptionally challenging to capture. These were all influences in its allure as a bastion of control. ?The exact date of Roman control remains a mystery, as much of Ravenna?s past, although the first record of a Roman fleet to reach the city was in 82 BC. Caesar chose Ravenna as his headquarters while negotiating with the Senate and later as his base when launching various military campaigns on surrounding areas. While there, he is thought to have begun construction on the port of Classe (initially known as Classis), which served as the catalyst for Ravenna s first rise to greatness. Emperor Octavius Augustus oversaw the port?s completion and, realizing its strategic location, made the port the principal base for a fleet, 250 ships strong, to defend the ?Adriatic Sea and the waters of the near eastern Mediterranean (History, par. 9). Augustus also created a canal, known as the Fossa Augusta, linking the port to the southern branch of the Po. This canal permitted waters to flow around the city walls to fortify Ravenna?s defense and through the center of the town to facilitate transport and commerce. With the port as the focus of the city, Ravenna flourished as a town of trade and industry (especially ship building). Though the port?s value waned by the sixth century ... • 5. A Further Analysis Of Report Of Wild Children Essay Another important factor that plays a role in the development of the monster and feral children is the presence of abuse and trauma. Abuse and trauma play a role in the development of the creature and feral children because it affect their cognition, behavior, their idea of self worth, and their ability to connect with others. Wayne Dennis s essay, A Further Analysis of Reports of Wild Children , asserts that because of being in conditions of constant stress and threat [from abuse and trauma], children may have trouble utilizing their cognitive skills (155). Furthermore, Dennis asserts that because of the conditions that the children experienced they exhibited behaviors that can be only be conveyed as erratic and volatile (153). In addition, ... The presence of abuse and trauma during the development of the monster affected his cognition, behavior, his idea of self worth, and his ability to connect with others. This is highlighted when he saw Felix was about to strike him for the second time he was overcome by pain and anguish, [he] quitted the cottage (Shelley 95) to escape. Furthermore, his behavior also becomes erratic and volatile. This is shown when he wished to tear up the trees, spread havoc and destruction, and then sit down and enjoy the ruin (Shelley 95) after his interaction with the De Laceys. In addition, it is evident that his perception of himself is as a wretch , even saying All men hate the wretched; how then must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living things! (Shelley 67 68). Finally, because of his experience with the barbarity of man , he is very cautious when approaching other people. This was displayed when he longed to join [the De Laceys], but dared ... Existentialism is the philosophy that humans exist for no true purpose and that each individual changes essence in his or her lifetime by finding meaning in life through freewill, choice, and personal responsibility without certain knowledge of right and wrong. This theory gained popularity in the mid 1900s after WWII caused many people to lose hope in an ordered world and accept that no cosmic justice exists. Meursault receives immense criticism at his trial concerning his murdering another man. At his trial, Meursault can feel how much all these people [the jury] hated (Camus 90) him. The jury does not commend him or even regard him with understanding about his mother s death. Some people react to death without actually reacting to it; Meursault subconsciously chooses to do so but receives condemnation. Both characters experience isolation from society. The characters also think illogically without true reasoning. When Gregor transforms into a large beetle, his first thought is not how to fix his situation. Rather, he thinks to himself, How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense (Kafka 7). Beginning in the late 1600s and continuing through the 1700s the demand for sugar became incredibly high due to its addictive qualities. To supply the consumers with sugar they were craving, wealthy Europeans established sugar plantations throughout the Caribbean and built a thriving slave industry, so their need for cheap labor could be satisfied. Sugar consumption increased from 4.6lbs to 16.2lbs per capita annually from 1700 to 1770 due to the increasing addiction of the consumers. Due to the efforts to colonize the Caribbean islands, by 1750 they were almost all owned by Spain, France, or England, meaning these countries now had access to and control over this area that they did not previously; they took advantage of this newfound power (Doc 1). Sugar requires a specific climate to grow plentifully (i.e. 68° 90°F) and this was something the Caribbean islands provided the Europeans with; if European countries had not had taken control in the Caribbean islands the sugar industry would not have survived (Doc 2). At this time, the Caribbean islands were the only location that the Europeans had access to that provided the correct climate. The landscape was ideal and led to a high crop yield and without it the consumers would be at a loss (Doc 8). Through the 1700s and into the 1800s, in Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Domingue, and Cuba, sugar production rates escalated, but this vast increase was made possible only by the natural conditions of the Caribbean islands (Doc 10). Many would argue that perspective doesn t matter; that perspective is just some deep psychological nonsense that one does not need. Clearly that is not the case at all. It s only logical fact that a positive outcome of life leads to a positive life. We can t tell the difference between the quality of the food and the environment in which we consume it. All of you would have seen this phenomenon if you have your car is washed or valeted. When you drive away, your car feels as it drives better. And the reason for this, unless my car valet is mysteriously changing the oil and performing work which I m not paying him for and are unaware of, is because perception is in any case leaky. So if you do something that s perceptional bad in one case, you can damage the other. Anyone s perception can be fixed. Some gentlemen may think after a car wash their cars perform better but is that really the case? No, the car, after is cleaning, is now perceived as higher quality, therefore, it performs at a higher level, which then leads to the perception that the quality of life one lives has evolved. A clean car just makes anyone feel better. With this information one can know start acknowledging that our perception of ourselves matters because it can be leaky or fixed. The information given in the documentary was factual and useful to my knowledge. The information also provides me with ways I could approach my future career in health care, which is epidemiology. As an epidemiologist, disease would be my main focus point which produces an impact on individuals. More disease, equals more health care and more expenses. In this paper, I intend to include details about the documentary, present an analysis of what was shown, and express my reaction to the video. In this informative documentary, it concentrates on 5 particular countries and explores ways each country provides healthcare to their citizens. Even though the policies and regulations are different from the United States, does that necessarily mean their ways are more beneficial? The author helps to explain and break the concept down for the viewers. For example the first country the author represented in the video was Great Britain. For me, this quote clearly describes the overarching relationship between Blackfish and Antigone. This analogy starts with Antigone, written about an oppressed woman against the fists of tyranny. That early in history woman s rights was often taboo at places, and democracy was only recently established. Yet, Antigone went against the norm by focusing on a heroine that challenged male authority and nobility, thus making it revolutionary. Clarendon believed in using coercive acts to eliminate dissenters. However, Charles did not want to persecute people with different religious beliefs if they were not causing problems for England. In April of 1660, he put these ideas into effect with the Breda Declaration. This declaration was the first of many signs that Charles was impartial to Catholics. Picasso s interest in African (particularly African Tribal) influences is usually considered something of a brief flirtation that formed a stepping stone to his lifelong infatuation with depicting subversive cubist geometries. His experiments with African themes are considered to have concluded by the start of 1910, in favour of focusing on developing his (then) more successful 1908 experiments in Analytical Cubism into a coherent genre of painting. Nevertheless, Picasso never entirely abandoned his interest in Africa. Some much later work such as the painting Musician (1972) can be said to contain the same influences. Certainly, the enduring influence of some elements of the African Period on Picasso can be seen throughout the work that followed on from it. This is particularly so in Picasso s approach to facial structure and depiction of the human body after 1909. The book starts out in New Amsterdam, detailing the importance of The Dutch West India Company and its importance in trade; including the African slave trade. The citizens of New Amsterdam had little to no say in governmental decisions. At times, there were citizen advisory boards created, and a director general that made decisions, but for the most part even these issues were at the mercy of the Dutch West India Company s control. The book goes into detail about the people over the courses of their lives, more specifically, three different generations of men starting with those present at the English acquisition of New Netherland in 1664, the sons of these men who stayed in New York City, and then their grandchildren.
