The Area Of Interest, Livestock, Grazing, And Urban And...
Introduction
The area of interest is located in the San Joaquin Valley, California, primarily in the western part of
Fresno County, California. The primary land uses in the region are irrigated cropland, livestock,
grazing, and urban and home development (USDA 2015). Other land uses include recreation and
wildlife habitats. The land survey of the region consists of series of straight lines delineating fields of
crops, typically running north to south. A series of squares dominates the aerial view of the region.
The region experiences hot and dry summers with an average July high of 92°F and has historically
experienced cool and rainy winters with an average January low of 38°F which normally lasts
between November and April. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rest of the area contains natural areas (trees shrubs) with 15.9% (1,928.1 acres) and water with
0.6% (73.7 acres). In 2014, the gross value of Fresno County agriculture production exceeded seven
billion dollars. Almonds was the number one crop at a value of $1.3 billion and grapes was a close
second at $905 million (County of Fresno, Department of Agriculture 2015). Other important crops
include poultry ($654 million), milk ($636 million), tomatoes ($524 million), pistachios ($378
million), garlic ($202 million), and cotton ($135 million).
The diversity, high total acreage and crop yield are the result of favorable factors; the Mediterranean
climate, long growing seasons, productive soils, and readily available and plentiful irrigation.
Agricultural operations in the area have significant and permanent impact on the properties and
management of the soils in the study area. Farming practices such as land leveling and irrigation
impacts surface soils and deeper soil profiles due to the percolation of irrigation water. The current
drought afflicting the region has increased the number of fallow acres steadily because of the relative
unreliability of the water supply. The lack of surface water availability has forced farmers to turn more
to groundwater to irrigate their crops. The pumping of water from deep wells and increased
consumption of ground water contributes to ground subsidence which in turn, affects the
geomorphology of the

The Truth About Pancreatic Cancer Essay
1.1 Pancreatic cancer
Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease that is ranked fourth among cancer related deaths in
Norway. 31 Yearly 600 650 new cases are detected, corresponding to 7 per 100 000 inhabitant. The
survival rate five years after diagnosis is very low, at only 5 %. 19 Approximately 90 % of patients
diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer survive less than one year, with a median survival of 5 6
months. The high mortality rate is connected to late diagnosis, early metastasis and poor response to
chemo and radiotherapy. 34 Pancreatic cancer can be inherited, but 90 % of cases are considered
sporadic. 19 The major histological type of pancreatic cancer is ductal pancreatic adenocarcinoma

Evidence shows that some families have increased risk of pancreatic cancer, implying a genetic
contribution. 28 The genetic base for this increased risk has not been identified yet, but mutations in
BRCA2 and PALB2, among others, are associated with greater risk of disease 37. Only 5 10 % of
patients have a family history of the disease. 19 It has been shown that in families with four or more
cases of pancreatic cancer the risk of disease is 57 times higher than in families with no history of
disease. 19
1.1.2 Stage and diagnostics
Pancreatic cancer tumors are staged according to tumor node metastasis (TNM) classifications of the
American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). The staging of tumors is based on tumor size and
localization, and connected to resectability. 19 Further staging reflect whether lymph node metastasis
(N stage) or distant metastasis (M stage) are present. Tumor stage, nodal stage and distant metastasis
are combined into stages which tell about the overall disease. See Table 1 for complete overview of
this staging strategy. 19

Femme Fatale
Makeda Scott
Mr. Halter
Composition I
06 October 2015
Femme Fatale Pink lips. Long nails. Extravagant jewelry. Flirty dresses. High heels. These are some
of the typical things your average femme lesbian prides herself on. These are some of the things I
pride myself on. My appearance constitutes a large part of my identity and self image. I am your
standard girl next door, except, I am not waiting on that handsome athletic jock to hit on me, I m
waiting on the other girl next door to come swoop me off my feet and ride into the sunset with. As
lesbians, we assume we have a certain amount of gaydar ingrained within us, like it s a prerogative.
We think that we have the capability to pinpoint any woman in a crowd and say Yes! She s one of us.
But where does this presumed gaydar come from? Is it a feeling we get, a judgment of mannerisms,
something we see in ourselves reflected in others, or is it simply what people wear? Do short hair,
plaid shirts, Jordan s and ties delineate what we perceive a lesbian to be? Gaydar is probably a
conglomeration of all these attributes, but we can t deny that the most conventional and simplest way
to ascertain someone s sexual orientation is from what they re wearing. This process is highly
inaccurate. Clothes are just a way to categorize us into subcultures. Indeed, we can all recount that one
lesbian that was so butch, she could be spotted from a mile away, and we

Violence And Violence In Townie By Andre Dubus III
Townie, written by Andre Dubus III, is a memoir that portrays the detailed events, good or bad, of
Andre Dubus III s life as an adolescent until maturity. Dubus describes himself gaudily, explaining his
battles as a boy growing up in the Boston area. Growing up without a cookie cutter father, Andre
never had a strong and omniscient figure to help him throughout childhood. The only thing that
became a common theme in his life was violence. Violence is present in his lifetime through many
forms, starting as him getting beaten up by bullies and ending with him getting in fights as an adult
with little to no motive. This continual violence brings out a fury and terror that Andre has to fight
against his entire life. While he does eventually become content with his life without fighting, he
initially has to fight through many obstructions to get to this point. These hindrances, though from an
outsider s perspective are tragic, shape him into the person he is today. The memoir begins its timeline
in Andre s adolescence. Going to school, he is petrified of violence and refuses to participate in any
fights, despite them consuming his surrounding environment. It wasn t abnormal for a fight to occur
after school, and everyone in the area loved it. Throughout the multiple neighborhoods he lived in, and
at schools he attended, there were always kids that kept their eye out for someone smaller than them to
beat up and he was the perfect target. One of his very first encounters with

The Role Of Armies In The Kargil War
The Kargil war was a conflict between India and Pakistan. The two countries Armies were greatly
involved in this conflict, with Pakistan having a bigger role to play in the war. It is important to note
that Pakistan begun preparing for this war as early as February 1999 by selecting, training and
deploying troops into the Kargil region. It is also imperative to understand the main intention behind
all these preparations. The main aims of this grand plan were to isolate Siachen, to cause disruptions at
several places in the main road connecting Leh and Srinagar, and to interrupt NH 1A. All these were
meant to set the stage for attacking the valley through military and terrorist actions with the main
objective of executing their main agenda dubbed Op Topac which was to gain control over Kashmir
valley.
As discussed by Raghavan Shorey (2002), the Pakistani troops could not approach the valley directly
by taking the routes through either Kupwara or Baramulla because of the presence of heavy snow and
Indian troops. Therefore, the country s army opted for the Kargil sector as the main route through
which they could pursue their plan. Pakistan s success in this battle would mean that the country
would gain confidence and prepare itself to launch the final attack against its enemy and liberate
Kashmir. Moreover, if the country managed to seize Kashmir Valley, it would put them in a better
position to avenge its shameful defeat in the 1971 conflict.
The Kargil area is

Tim Winton Neighbours
«Relations were uncomfortable for many months. The Macedonians raised eyebrows at the late hour
at which the newcomers rose in the mornings. The young man sensed their disapproval at his staying
home to write his thesis while his wife worked. Ha watched in disgust as the little boy next door
urinated in the street.
This excerpt is taken from the short story Neighbours by Tim Winton. The story and the excerpt
illustrates how people with different cultural backgrounds react to each others behavior. It also shows
us how different some cultures really are. In this particular case there s a culture clash between the
culture of a young newlywed couple from Australia and their neighbors of European origin. In
Neighbours the couple themselves belong to the overall majority culture of the country. Still they feel
like foreigners in this neighborhood. They have to choose whether they are going to adapt to the
culture of their neighbors or not. Which brings us to the topic of this essay; accommodation. Should
immigrants leave their culture and traditions behind when migrating? In what degree should they

Character Analysis Of The Sniper By Liam OFaherty
The characteristics of the characters in a story is something that makes them who they are and what
you start to learn about them. In The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, the protagonist shoots and kills the
antagonist. The two characters in the story where, the protagonist which was the narrator (main sniper)
and the antagonist (enemy sniper). The protagonist saves the lives of other because of his his
intelligence, his determination, and his risk taking.
The narrator s intelligence is one of his most important and most noticeable traits.Intelligence is
something that happens in almost every scene in the story. The imagination in your mind will let you
see how it goes out and turns into better. The narrator chose to smoke a cigarette and he lit a flame and
got shot. Draping flat onto the roof he crawled back to the parapet with his left hand he felt insured.
He drew his knife to fix the wound. (213). Here, the narrator, after getting shot, crawls back acting
like there is no pain at all leans up against the parapet (wall on a roof) and gets his knife and cuts his
sleeve off to see the wound and get the bullet out. After he got the bullet out and rapped his cut sleeve
around his arm to slow down the bleeding. The narrator, after getting shot, he came up with a very
good idea. Taking off his cap, he placed it over the muzzle of his rifle. Then pushed his rifle slowly
over the parapet until the cap was visible. (214). Here, the narrator got shot and he wanted to see if the

The Bon Marché Essay
The Bon Marché Michael Miller s book, The Bon Marché: Bourgeois Culture and the Department
Store, 1869 1920, is an expansive and interesting look back on a era of Parisian history that is best
represented by its then current trend and social innovation, the department store. The book gives a
fascinating account of the store from its beginning to eventual common place status in 1914. The book
gives an insight on the factors in which the store saw success, such as the management, the labor, and
new marketing. It also gives light to the social factors that made the store possible (i.e education and
economy). Bon Marché is a book about the change in the 19th century French market and the effect it
then had on the bourgeoisie class. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aristide and Marguerite established the new Bon Marché with a managerial tactic of benevolence to
answer a need to maintain control over the store s performance and progress. The employees of the
Bon Marché were some of the best paid employees in all of Paris, as well did they receive great in
house benefits. In 1876, Aristide Boucicaut announced the establishment of a financial fund for
employees. This was designed to make the employees apart of his house, or family. The methods
proved so effective that even the Boucicauts eventual successors (though most having made their way
up the ranks of the store) continued their system. In part three, Miller gives life to the Bon Marché; the
store slowly but surely becomes a part of the bourgeoisie class and social culture, giving them such
practices as displaying art, selling nouveautés, a library of books, and a venue for concerts. The store
attracts a certain kind of upper class. They wished to be able to take part in something as close to the
middle class as possible. The store added more middle class employees and merchandising items that
personified middle class values; the Bon Marché helped construct the new idea of how the middle
class looked and acted. The Bon Marché is a well researched, well drafted, and well organized book of
whose argumentation is linear and sequential. The book would excite business historians with the
ideas of merchandising

Corporate Tax Rate In America
1. One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in regards
to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines how much a
corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing the corporate tax
rate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first with a 39.1 percent
corporate tax rate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with trump, I think that we
should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than companies would have more
money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with Trump, there are several factors
that affect this decision and there are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We
should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate based
on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s profit is
taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000. Using this
policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed as much as a
large company that can actually afford it.
5. The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of
borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a company
has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make the tax rate
higher because they will have more money. The money that we get from taxing these corporations
should be put back into the economy by the government. If we were to keep the tax rates higher we
can use the extra money and put it into things such as; the building of roads, education, and

Contractors are responsible for the safety of their employees and the people near or at the work place.
Part of their job is to ensure that equipment, materials, and the work environment is safe as well as
make sure that the guidelines are being followed. In a construction site, it is important to be cautious
around heavy equipment and power tools. When operating equipment while working at a construction

Epiphany In Brian OConnal
Brian O Connal is an ever changing little boy, who learns something new almost everyday of his life
that he has lived so far. He is known to be quite an inquisitive character throughout this gracefully
written novel, for reason that W. O. Mitchell portrays him as a child of curiosity and concern.
Throughout this novel, Brian ages from four to eleven, experiencing life and death in the beautiful,
and eternal Saskatchewan Prairies. Brian is always curious about the different rhythms around him,
which bring him different feelings quite often, and causes him to have many fascinating questions that
he absolutely craves the answers for. Throughout this novel, Brian has many epiphanies about, and
involving human mortality. As Brian matures, he realizes that death is ever present and inevitable.
While experiencing these epiphanies, he gradually learns to cope with death s presence in his world.
Throughout the epiphanies of Brian s experiences with mortality, Mitchell leads the readers into a

mortality Throughout this novel, Brian has had many epiphanies about mortality, and how it can come
to pass anyone or anything, beyond his control. He also realized that death can strike at any given

Chuck Yeager Essay
Chuck Yeager is unquestionably the most famous test pilot of all time. He won a permanent place in
the history of aviation as the first pilot ever to fly faster than the speed of sound, but that is only one of
the remarkable feats this pilot performed in service to his country.
Charles Elwood Yeager was born in 1923 in Myra, West Virginia and grew up in the nearby village of
Hamlin. Immediately upon graduation from High School he enlisted in the United States Army Air
Corps to serve in World War II.
Shot down over enemy territory only one day after his first kill in 1943, Yeager evaded capture, and

After the onset of the space race in 1956, Yeager commanded the Air Force Aerospace Research Pilots
School to train pilots for the space program. In this capacity, Yeager supervised development of the
space simulator and the introduction of advanced computers to Air force pilots. Although Yeager
himself was passed over for service in space, nearly half of the astronauts who served in the Gemini,
Mercury and Apollo programs were graduates of Yeager s school.
In 1963, Yeager was flying the experimental Lockheed Starfighter at over twice the speed of sound
when the engine shut off and he was forced to abandon the spinning aircraft. Yeager s compression
suit was set on fire by the burning debris from the ejector seat, which became entangled in his

the Vietnam War, Yeager now a full colonel commanded the 405th fighter wing out of the Philippines,
flying 127 air support missions, and training bomber pilots.
In 1968, Yeager was promoted to brigadier general. He is one of a very few who have risen from

Predestination And Its Impact On The Theological Landscape
Predestination Any study on predestination as it pertains to salvation would be incomplete without the
mention of John Calvin. Calvin was born in 1509 and died in 1564. He is well known for his book
titled Institutes of the Christian Religion, in which he explained his views on the church and other
subjects like the sacraments, justification, Christian liberty and the sovereignty of God. Norman
Geisler of the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics described him as, a pioneer Protestant
exegete of the Bible. Nevertheless, his theories on predestination, foreordination, and election have
had a tremendous influence on the study of theology and helped to shape the theological landscape
during his time as well as the current theological landscape. His influence is so predominate regarding
the predestination doctrine that it is often also referred to as Calvinism. Some scholars would even
point to the doctrine s origins as being developed by Calvin. Calvinism s main focus is on God s
sovereignty, but a portion of Calvinism directly addresses predestination, election, and foreordination.
To get a better understanding of the Calvinists interpretation of predestination, as well as what is
commonly the general consensus for those espousing the predestination doctrine, one need go no
farther than John Calvin himself,
We call predestination God s eternal decree, by which he compacted with himself what he willed to
become of each man. For all are not created in equal condition,

Holocaust And Nannk Analysis
The Annihilation of a Nation: Holocaust Vs Rape and Nanking
In the span of six weeks 300,000 to 600,000 civilians of Nanjing, China were murdered and/or raped(
The rape of Nanking 1937 1938 1). The Holocaust had 9 million victims. There are many similarities
and differences between the Holocaust and Rape and Nanjing. Both the Holocaust and Rape and
Nanking are genocides. A genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those
of a particular ethnic group or nation.
What are the similarities and differences between the two genocides? The Holocaust started on
January 30th of 1933 and lasted till May 8th of 1945. The Holocaust took place in mostly Germany
but Europe, Poland, and Austria had their place too. Hitler blamed the Jews for the great depression
causing the hatred of their race and religion. While the Holocaust took place, another genocide quickly
took place. On December 13th, 1937 the Rape and Nanjing took place in Nanjing, China and ended in
6 weeks( The Tokyo judgement and the rape of nanking 1). 300,000 to 600,000 civilians were victims

Unemployment situation tends to vary depending on the state of economy. When the employment rate
in an area is high, the recruitment process tends to be easier. The number of applications is higher
which makes it easier to attract the best qualified applicants. While low unemployment is regarded as
a positive factor, it does limit the availability of the right people.
Recruitment and Selection

The Most Important Function Of Money
The most important function of money is that it serves as a medium of exchange. In a barter economy
it was difficult to exchange of goods since the exchange in a barter system required double
coincidence of wants. Money has removed this issue. Now goods can be sold between two parties.
Then the seller can use that money to buy goods they want from another party that have the goods
they want.
Another important function of money is that it serves as a common measure of value or a unit of
account. Under a barter economy there was no common measure of value in which the values of
different goods could be measured and compared with each other. Money has also resolved this
problem as well. Money serves as a way to measure the value of goods and services. As the value of
all goods and services is measured in a standard unit of money, their relative values can be easily
compared (Asmundson Oner, 2012).
Another function of money it that it serves as a standard for deferred payments. Deferred payments
mean those payments which are to be made in the future. If a loan is taken today, it would be paid
back after a period of time. The amount of loan is measured in terms of money and it is paid back in
money. A large number of credit transactions involving huge future payments are made daily. Money
performs this function of standard for deferred payments because its value remains more or less stable.
If the prices are falling, i.e., the value of money is rising, the creditors will

Switching from Social Media to Printed Media
In today society, different media types are used more frequently than everyday chore. The average
American spends five hours a day watching television overall eight hours a day per household.
Drivers spend about six hours per day listening to radio averaging seven hundred and fifty hours a
year listening to music or news/talk radio. Like radio people listen to music on their portable devices
while exercising, walking, or studying. Individuals that love to read spend their spare time to reading
magazines, newspaper, or books. Like magazines, new media covers all of media which attracts
people from different age groups. New media is constantly being use on a daily basis especially social
media. Social media gives people access to communicate with others around the world. With twenty
four hours in a day and eight hours being the average sleep time people spend most of their day
consuming media. People have experience hours and days without television, music, and film, but not
all media. If everyone in the world went a day avoiding all types of media, how would it affect their
attitudes, beliefs, and values? In this project, I avoided all types of media including video games and
mobile devices. Although this experience was very challenging, I learned that avoiding the media
keeps me focus on responsibilities and physically associating myself with friends.
Going a day without media was very long and disconnected from the world. Since I chose to avoid the

Private Interests and Social Welfare
The human civilisation is composed of innumerable individuals, countless interest groups and social
strata, with each of them following the fundamental instinct striving to maximise their own well being
by obtaining as many benefits as they can and averting as much cost as possible. Unfortunately for
humankind, for one to improve one s life, competing with others is unavoidable. Competitions, by
definition, means the winners get something at the expense of others. The good news is that
competition among people is not a constant sum game, that is to say, theoretically, if we can reallocate
resources, rights and duties in a certain way, the humankind may benefit maximally. In the most ideal
case, the self interest of each individual and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Book II, Chapter VII, para. 44)
Different from Huang s idea that the emperor is still superior, Rousseau s theory about politics
assumes there is an ever righteous General Will. Rousseau s solution to the problem is based on this
belief. He argues that the General Will is the only binding force that can be exerted on the individuals,
so a law bill drawn by a however intelligent legislator, which is a particular will of an individual
cannot become law before being authorised by the sovereignty. (Book II, Chapter VII, para. 47) The
separation of power of drawing a law bill and legislation will therefore prevent the self interest of the
legislator impeding the collective welfare. Because General Will is the aggregation of many individual
wills, it is possible to verify if a law bill proposed is in line with the General Will by consulting the
citizens opinions, e.g. by free vote. When law bills are widely supported and scrutinised by the
citizens, one can be assured that the social welfare is not impeded by the legislators private interest. #
Discussions
I believe Huang s proposal is a great advancement in China s political history, for the pioneering idea
that the emperor s performance should be scrutinised thoroughly is raised. However, I cannot persuade
myself to fully trust such a system, in which one may spot a number of weaknesses.
Firstly, the school is merely an advisory body, rather than a body that

Community Vs. Perception Of Alcohol
Ian Markle 10/03/2016 Community vs Paranoia The influence of alcohol has been everywhere in
human history and is undoubtedly the most dominant psychoactive substance in every human culture.
It was critical for developing countries where alcohol was key to trade. (Awkward) Alcohol was one
of the main three psychoactive products (with tobacco and caffeine) which helped drive the
globalization of trade from the 17th century. Today, the consumption of alcohol has become more
omnipresent because of how diversified drinks have become. Drinking is an increasingly globalized
cultural practice because alcohol is a substance with a global history. Producers of these alcoholic
beverages tend to be large corporations reliant on innovative marketing techniques. The global alcohol
industry is also trying to expand into developing countries while continuing to collect profits in the
saturated markets of North America and Europe. Thesis: No one knows for certain as to when humans
first produced alcohol. The original alcoholic drink could have been created from berries or honey.
But according to (quote), the discovery of late Stone Age beer containers dating back to 8000 BCE
demonstrates that humans have been fermenting alcoholic drinks for at least 10,000 years. Since then
alcohol has been produced, consumed, and traded by humans for thousands of years. An early
example of alcohol trade happens in 3000 B.C., early Mesopotamian farmers realized that the alcohol

Images And Images For The Gower Birds Hospital
Image
Firstly, we must use copyright free pictures in our design (Hand and Middleditch, 2013:280).
Next, according to Hand and Middleditch (2013:194), imagery is an significent element in modern
media. Media productions need to rely on video and still images to attract their audience s attention.
As for the Gower Birds Hospital, the images and visuals still have some imperfections and need to
make changes immediately in order to make customers easier to understand and remember the home
page. Hand and Middleditch ( 2013:201) hold the point that most people pay more attention on images
than words. There are too many old pictures in the GBH s graphic design, therefore, we need to add

Colour
The existing color of Gower Bird Hospital is green which show the central theme of Gower Bird
Hospita, protecting environment and the harmony between human and nature. Green is a very down to
earth color which represent new beginnings and growth. It also represent renewal and abundance.
Brighter greens are more energizing and vibrant, while olive greens are more representative of the
natural world (Chapman, 2010). Therefore, the olive green will be the main colour of most design.
Light blues are often relaxed and calming while bright blues can be energizing and refreshing. Dark
blues can be used in corporate sites or designs where strength and reliability are significant (Chapman,
2010). Therefore, blue also will be used in website design, which can match the theme of Hospital.
What s more, according to the Complementary color scheme, the high contrast of complementary
colors can give audiences a vibrant look (Tigercolor, 2014). Red and green are complementary colors.
In design, red can be a great color to use when power or passion want to be expressed in the design
(Chapman, 2010). Therefore, red can be used in some important part of our visual design which can
draw more attention.
In addition, the colour model in digital media is different from printing. All of those digital media
need to use RGB mode in the design process while the design of newsletter need to use CMYK mode
(Cohen, 2009:73 75).

he poem To a Daughter Leaving Home by Linda Pastan describes the very memory of a mother

with the use of metaphors, imagery, enjambment show how the bicycle is a part of life s journey and
the diction helps demonstrate the young daughter s maturation from a child to an adult. Pastan uses

Woodside, NY is a large and heavily populated neighborhood in western Queens. Primarily consisting
of working class to middle class residents, the neighborhood is both residential and commercial. With
a population of 90,000, it is home to both long term residents and recent additions. When the
neighborhood was first formed, few people dared to live on its uninviting land. Snake infested swamps
and wolves nearby kept the area from being developed or populated for many years. However,
towards the mid 19th century, farmers learned how to make the land profitable through draining
swamps and diminishing the surrounding woods to provide land and prevent against local predators.
They utilized the remaining marsh land for livestock grazing and growing wheat, while using the dry

young could have a defining moment, but you would be wrong. Moreover, our experiences as children

defining moments happened on a trip to The American Museum of Natural History.
There was nothing spectacular about that day; it started out just like any other. My dad planned a trip

it boring because there was nothing to do, but stare at things that did not interest me, and that I could

Taking a Look at the Small Intestine
The small intestine is an important organ of the digestive system. It plays an important role in
digestion of food as well as assimilation of the nutrients. It is located in the central and lower part of
the abdomen, between the stomach and large intestines. When the small intestine is stretched out, it is
approximately 7 meters long, making it the largest part of the digestive tract and is approximately 2.5
3 centimeters in diameter. The small intestine should be taken care by a doctor that specializes in
gastroenterology, also known as the gastroenterologist. The small intestine is divided into three main
sections: duodenum, jejunum, and ileum (Henry Gray). The duodenum receives the processed food, or
chyme, from the stomach, bile from the liver and gallbladder, and pancreatic juice from the pancreas.
It then mixes these substances together and further breaks down the food into basic units. The jejunum
is the middle region of intestine and receives the broken down chyme from the duodenum. It is where
most of the absorption of nutrients into the circulatory and lymphatic systems takes place. The ileum
is the last region of the small intestine. It receives the nutrients that were not absorbed in the jejunum
and absorbs them before the indigestible food passes into the large intestine.
In addition to the structural divisions of the small intestines, its structures includes its wall (Henry
Gray). The outer wall of the small intestines is composed of smooth muscle tissue. The

The Abbasid Revolution
The Abbasid Dynasty, known to its supporters as the blessed dynasty , which imposed its authority on
the Islamic empire in 132/750, claimed to inaugurate a new era of justice, piety and happiness. The
dynasty ruled the Islamic Caliphate from 750 to 1258 AD, making it one of the longest and most
influential Islamic dynasties. For most of its early history, it was the largest empire in the world, and
this meant that it had contact with distant neighbors such as the Chinese and Indians in the East, and
the Byzantines in the West, allowing it to adopt and synthesize ideas from these cultures.

The Abbasids maintained the hereditary control of the caliphate, forming a new dynasty. The alliance
with the Shiites was short lived, and the Abbasids became champions of Sunni orthodoxy, upholding
the authority of their family over that of Ali, and continuing the subjugation of the Shiites. Even Abu
Muslim, the popular leader who more than any other single individual was the architect of the Abbasid
victory, was put to death by the second Abbasid Caliph, Al Mansur. However, the Abbasids did prove
loyal to their Persian mawali allies. In fact, Abbasid culture would come to be dominated by the
legacy of Persian civilization. The Abbasid court was heavily influenced by Persian customs, and
members of the powerful Persian Barmakid family acted as the advisers of the caliphs and rivaled
them in wealth and power.
One of the earliest and most important changes the Abbasids made was to move the capital of the
Islamic empire from the old Umayyad power base of Damascus to a new city Baghdad. Baghdad was
founded in 762 by al Mansur on the banks of the Tigris River. The city was round in shape, and
designed from the beginning to be a great capital and the center of the Islamic world.
Baghdad grew quickly with encouragement from the Abbasid state, and it was soon the largest city in
the world. At Baghdad, the Persian culture that the Umayyads had attempted to suppress was now
allowed to thrive. Art, poetry, and science flourished. The Abbasids learned from the Chinese

My Impact On Student Learning Assignment On Our Weekly...
I chose to complete my impact on student learning assignment on our weekly spelling test. I choose
our spelling test because we work on our words every day. I taught my students through spelling,
phonics, and reading. First I had the students on the carpet to say their chunks. All their chunks were
in their spelling words. Then I had my students focus on their phonics lesson for the week which was
/er/, /ir/, and /ur/. I explained to the students that r is the boss and when it is standing by a vowel it
makes one sound. Phonics was a very important component because the students needed to know
about bossy r for five of their spelling words. After our phonics lesson, I gave the students a pretest.
The pre test had divided into two sections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think integrating technology into my lesson made it more engaging for my student. I noticed how
they would sing the new song they learned all throughout the day. I put Words With /er/ on the ELMO
and had the students underline their chunks and double consonants. some of the words they
recognized from their spelling list. I called on students one by one and asked them to help sound out
the word. I then asked the student if the word had /er/. If the word had /er/ then the student would trace
/er/. After every student had a turn the class read the words correctly. The students then took out their
Basel books. I had the students point and read Kitten s First Full Moon together again, twice. Their
spelling homework was to write their words in ABC order.
Wednesday, I made sure that the students chanted their chunks on the carpet. Then the students went
back to their desks, they already knew what to do for spelling. I put our spelling poster up on the
board had the students play Soccer with their spelling words. The phonics lesson for the day was the
same as Tuesday except for wit /ir/ instead of /er/. I saw surprised that some of the students were still
singing the bossy r song. When prompted all of the students could sing it. When we were reading our
Basel books I would occasionally ask students to stop, point, and spell a word that was on their
spelling test. For homework,

Narrative I Found Timelessness at Grandma s House
It was finally fall break. I was visiting my grandma for a few days. Well past dinnertime, I pulled up to
the white stately home in northern rural Iowa. I parked my car, unloaded my bag and pillow, and
crunched through the leaves to the front porch. The porch was just how I had seen it last; to the right, a
small iron table and chairs, along with an old antique brass pole lamp, and on the left, a flowered
glider that I have spent many a summer afternoon on, swaying back and forth, just thinking.
I slowly opened the front door the same old creak echoed its way throughout the old house,
announcing my arrival just seconds before I called out, Grandma! She appeared around the ... Show

The old antiques collected over the years the smiling peanut piggy bank and John Deere tractor set
included still line the tops of the kitchen cabinets, threatening to overflow their allotted space one day
and spill onto the counter. The cheap suction cup stain glass window hangings still shed odd circles of
light on the dining room table where you least expect it. The old record player still sits in the family
room, broken needle, melted plastic cover (an unfortunate consequence involving a young grandchild
and a burning candle many years ago) and all. Nothing had changed. I mean, sure, the daughters in
law had gotten the major aspects changed over the years the carpets, wallpaper, and curtains but the
little things, the important things, the pieces of the house with character, had not changed a bit. There
is something comforting about that. I guess it s my timeless refuge from the changing world, my
haven from the hurricane of activity that otherwise surrounds my life. My grandmother s home was,
and still is, an oasis for peace and relaxation. The only hassle is trying to convince her not to fuss over
me, not to have a three course meal on the table waiting for me as soon as I step through the door.
In a world of so much pain, so much sorrow, so much death, Grandma s house is love, hope, and life.

Stock Market Predictability Essay
I will now examine the effectiveness of the Book to Market ratio in predicting stock market returns.
The Book to Market ratio is used to compare the book value and the market value of the firm. The
book value is calculated by the firm s accounting worth. The market value is determined by the market
capitalization in the stock market. It is then found using the formula, Book Value of the firm / Market
Value of the firm. Its purpose is to identify any securities that may be undervalued or overvalued.
From the research of Fama and French (1992), we can see the cross sectional variation in stock returns
can be shown by the book to market ratio of individual stocks. In Pontiff (1998), there were two
measures of the book to market ratio that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the paper s findings, the book to market ratio s predictive power is more prominent
before 1960 as there is no significant relation after 1960. The paper also concludes that after 1960, the
S P book to market ratio is a better predictor of market returns than is the DJIA book to market ratio
and the S P book value is better than the DJIA book value in predicting market cash flow . Therefore,
the book to market ratio is a good predictor for future market returns as long as we have a measure of
book value that has high correlation with future cash flows.
Some financial experts argue that certain macroeconomic variables can be used for predicting stock
returns. One such macroeconomic variable is the Consumption to Wealth ratio. I will now examine
how effective this variable is in predicting future stock market returns. The expected excess returns
vary with the growths and dips in the business cycle, therefore, they should be predictable at different
stages of the cycle. To examine the relationship, we note that aggregate consumption, asset holdings
and labour income all share the same long term trend, but in the short term they may deviate
substantially from one another. According to Lettau Ludvigson 2001, we study the role of these
transitory deviations from the common trend in

American Apparel Essay
VI. Implementation Plan It is clear that American Apparel has a problem that is largely caused by their
controversial advertising materials and the poor reputation of their CEO, Dov Charney. We believe
that this can be repaired by assigning someone new to be in charge of the company s marketing efforts
and refocusing their advertising strategy to be a more wholesome reflection of their company mission.
Charney can, of course, continue to be in charge of the rest of the company as many of his other
practices such as his pro labour stance (Schuette et al., 2012) are well regarded and respected. For the
good of the company, American Apparel s very first step should be to find and hire a new marketing
professional to take over the department and ensure it returns to the company s natural roots. This
professional could be an internal hire from within the company or an external hire such as a
headhunter or an advertising agency. Hiring an agency is important to consider as they can bring a
different point of view from outside the company to help solve it s problems, and because they have
more experience dealing with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The worst case scenario is that Charney is not receptive to the idea of stepping down from his role and
continues to damage the company s reputation with offensive ads. Another possible bad outcome
could be that the new head of marketing produces different ads but the ads are still not well received
by the company s audience or that the lack of publicity from the controversy has a negative effect on
the company s sales and they end up losing money. However, it is likely that the company will be able
to play up the new ads in a positive light and exploit any publicity gained from Charney s departure to
use to their

Forms Of Sexual Hypocrisy In George Eliot s Middlemarch
The 19th century literature depicts the bodily desire largely rather than being enunciated explicitly.
The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual arts
and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly used to
have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in matters of
speech, gesture and clothing.
There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy.
An ostensibly, even ostentatiously virtuous society which furtively broke its own rules of conduct; a
society which had nothing to say on sexual matters but left them but left them to the professionals.
The summary image of Victorian Society is extraordinarily tenacious.
The novel Middlemarch written by George Eliot (1871 1872) enjoyed immense popularity as it
dominated the European Literature in the 18th century. Eliot showcases social values and personal
importance by theorizing desire in her novel. The scene between Dorothea Brooke and Will Ladislaw
in the library at Ludwick, that scene which lends itself to a dynamic representative reading to desire s
function in Eliot s work. In An Erotic s of Detachment: Middlemarch and Novel reading as a Critical
Practice David Kurnick places Dorothea in the role of the restless and perpetually desirous novel
reader. Kurnick argues that Middlemarch as a 19th century novel depicting English society

Introduction The area of interest is located in the San Joaquin Valley, California, primarily in the western part of Fresno County, California. The primary land uses in the region are irrigated cropland, livestock, grazing, and urban and home development (USDA 2015). Other land uses include recreation and wildlife habitats. The land survey of the region consists of series of straight lines delineating fields of crops, typically running north to south. A series of squares dominates the aerial view of the region. Almonds was the number one crop at a value of $1.3 billion and grapes was a close second at $905 million (County of Fresno, Department of Agriculture 2015). Other important crops include poultry ($654 million), milk ($636 million), tomatoes ($524 million), pistachios ($378 million), garlic ($202 million), and cotton ($135 million). The diversity, high total acreage and crop yield are the result of favorable factors; the Mediterranean climate, long growing seasons, productive soils, and readily available and plentiful irrigation. Agricultural operations in the area have significant and permanent impact on the properties and management of the soils in the study area. Farming practices such as land leveling and irrigation impacts surface soils and deeper soil profiles due to the percolation of irrigation water. The current drought afflicting the region has increased the number of fallow acres steadily because of the relative unreliability of the water supply. The lack of surface water availability has forced farmers to turn more to groundwater to irrigate their crops. • 4. The Truth About Pancreatic Cancer Essay 1.1 Pancreatic cancer Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease that is ranked fourth among cancer related deaths in Norway. 31 Yearly 600 650 new cases are detected, corresponding to 7 per 100 000 inhabitant. The survival rate five years after diagnosis is very low, at only 5 %. 19 Approximately 90 % of patients diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer survive less than one year, with a median survival of 5 6 months. The high mortality rate is connected to late diagnosis, early metastasis and poor response to chemo and radiotherapy. 34 Pancreatic cancer can be inherited, but 90 % of cases are considered sporadic. 19 The major histological type of pancreatic cancer is ductal pancreatic adenocarcinoma which account for 80 % of the ... These are some of the typical things your average femme lesbian prides herself on. These are some of the things I pride myself on. My appearance constitutes a large part of my identity and self image. I am your standard girl next door, except, I am not waiting on that handsome athletic jock to hit on me, I m waiting on the other girl next door to come swoop me off my feet and ride into the sunset with. As lesbians, we assume we have a certain amount of gaydar ingrained within us, like it s a prerogative. We think that we have the capability to pinpoint any woman in a crowd and say Yes! She s one of us. But where does this presumed gaydar come from? Is it a feeling we get, a judgment of mannerisms, something we see in ourselves reflected in others, or is it simply what people wear? Do short hair, plaid shirts, Jordan s and ties delineate what we perceive a lesbian to be? Gaydar is probably a conglomeration of all these attributes, but we can t deny that the most conventional and simplest way to ascertain someone s sexual orientation is from what they re wearing. This process is highly inaccurate. Clothes are just a way to categorize us into subcultures. • 6. Violence And Violence In Townie By Andre Dubus III Townie, written by Andre Dubus III, is a memoir that portrays the detailed events, good or bad, of Andre Dubus III s life as an adolescent until maturity. Dubus describes himself gaudily, explaining his battles as a boy growing up in the Boston area. Growing up without a cookie cutter father, Andre never had a strong and omniscient figure to help him throughout childhood. The only thing that became a common theme in his life was violence. Violence is present in his lifetime through many forms, starting as him getting beaten up by bullies and ending with him getting in fights as an adult with little to no motive. This continual violence brings out a fury and terror that Andre has to fight against his entire life. While he does eventually become content with his life without fighting, he initially has to fight through many obstructions to get to this point. These hindrances, though from an outsider s perspective are tragic, shape him into the person he is today. The memoir begins its timeline in Andre s adolescence. Going to school, he is petrified of violence and refuses to participate in any fights, despite them consuming his surrounding environment. It wasn t abnormal for a fight to occur after school, and everyone in the area loved it. Throughout the multiple neighborhoods he lived in, and at schools he attended, there were always kids that kept their eye out for someone smaller than them to beat up and he was the perfect target. • 8. The Role Of Armies In The Kargil War The Kargil war was a conflict between India and Pakistan. The two countries Armies were greatly involved in this conflict, with Pakistan having a bigger role to play in the war. It is important to note that Pakistan begun preparing for this war as early as February 1999 by selecting, training and deploying troops into the Kargil region. It is also imperative to understand the main intention behind all these preparations. The main aims of this grand plan were to isolate Siachen, to cause disruptions at several places in the main road connecting Leh and Srinagar, and to interrupt NH 1A. All these were meant to set the stage for attacking the valley through military and terrorist actions with the main objective of executing their main agenda dubbed Op Topac which was to gain control over Kashmir valley. As discussed by Raghavan Shorey (2002), the Pakistani troops could not approach the valley directly by taking the routes through either Kupwara or Baramulla because of the presence of heavy snow and Indian troops. Therefore, the country s army opted for the Kargil sector as the main route through which they could pursue their plan. Pakistan s success in this battle would mean that the country would gain confidence and prepare itself to launch the final attack against its enemy and liberate Kashmir. Moreover, if the country managed to seize Kashmir Valley, it would put them in a better position to avenge its shameful defeat in the 1971 conflict. The Kargil area is ... The Bon Marché Essay The Bon Marché Michael Miller s book, The Bon Marché: Bourgeois Culture and the Department Store, 1869 1920, is an expansive and interesting look back on a era of Parisian history that is best represented by its then current trend and social innovation, the department store. The book gives a fascinating account of the store from its beginning to eventual common place status in 1914. The book gives an insight on the factors in which the store saw success, such as the management, the labor, and new marketing. It also gives light to the social factors that made the store possible (i.e education and economy). Aristide and Marguerite established the new Bon Marché with a managerial tactic of benevolence to answer a need to maintain control over the store s performance and progress. The employees of the Bon Marché were some of the best paid employees in all of Paris, as well did they receive great in house benefits. In 1876, Aristide Boucicaut announced the establishment of a financial fund for employees. This was designed to make the employees apart of his house, or family. The methods proved so effective that even the Boucicauts eventual successors (though most having made their way up the ranks of the store) continued their system. In part three, Miller gives life to the Bon Marché; the store slowly but surely becomes a part of the bourgeoisie class and social culture, giving them such practices as displaying art, selling nouveautés, a library of books, and a venue for concerts. The store attracts a certain kind of upper class. They wished to be able to take part in something as close to the middle class as possible. The store added more middle class employees and merchandising items that personified middle class values; the Bon Marché helped construct the new idea of how the middle class looked and acted. The Bon Marché is a well researched, well drafted, and well organized book of whose argumentation is linear and sequential. • 13. Corporate Tax Rate In America 1. One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in regards to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines how much a corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing the corporate tax rate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first with a 39.1 percent corporate tax rate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with trump, I think that we should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than companies would have more money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with Trump, there are several factors that affect this decision and there are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate based on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s profit is taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000. Using this policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed as much as a large company that can actually afford it. 5. The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a company has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make the tax rate higher because they will have more money. The money that we get from taxing these corporations should be put back into the economy by the government. If we were to keep the tax rates higher we can use the extra money and put it into things such as; the building of roads, education, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Calvin was born in 1509 and died in 1564. He is well known for his book titled Institutes of the Christian Religion, in which he explained his views on the church and other subjects like the sacraments, justification, Christian liberty and the sovereignty of God. Norman Geisler of the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics described him as, a pioneer Protestant exegete of the Bible. Nevertheless, his theories on predestination, foreordination, and election have had a tremendous influence on the study of theology and helped to shape the theological landscape during his time as well as the current theological landscape. His influence is so predominate regarding the predestination doctrine that it is often also referred to as Calvinism. Some scholars would even point to the doctrine s origins as being developed by Calvin. • 23. The Most Important Function Of Money The most important function of money is that it serves as a medium of exchange. In a barter economy it was difficult to exchange of goods since the exchange in a barter system required double coincidence of wants. Money has removed this issue. Now goods can be sold between two parties. Then the seller can use that money to buy goods they want from another party that have the goods they want. Another important function of money is that it serves as a common measure of value or a unit of account. Under a barter economy there was no common measure of value in which the values of different goods could be measured and compared with each other. Money has also resolved this problem as well. Money serves as a way to measure the value of goods and services. As the value of all goods and services is measured in a standard unit of money, their relative values can be easily compared (Asmundson Oner, 2012). Another function of money it that it serves as a standard for deferred payments. Deferred payments mean those payments which are to be made in the future. If a loan is taken today, it would be paid back after a period of time. The amount of loan is measured in terms of money and it is paid back in money. A large number of credit transactions involving huge future payments are made daily. Money performs this function of standard for deferred payments because its value remains more or less stable. If the prices are falling, i.e., the value of money is rising, the creditors will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Private Interests and Social Welfare The human civilisation is composed of innumerable individuals, countless interest groups and social strata, with each of them following the fundamental instinct striving to maximise their own well being by obtaining as many benefits as they can and averting as much cost as possible. Unfortunately for humankind, for one to improve one s life, competing with others is unavoidable. Competitions, by definition, means the winners get something at the expense of others. The good news is that competition among people is not a constant sum game, that is to say, theoretically, if we can reallocate resources, rights and duties in a certain way, the humankind may benefit maximally. (Book II, Chapter VII, para. 44) Different from Huang s idea that the emperor is still superior, Rousseau s theory about politics assumes there is an ever righteous General Will. Rousseau s solution to the problem is based on this belief. He argues that the General Will is the only binding force that can be exerted on the individuals, so a law bill drawn by a however intelligent legislator, which is a particular will of an individual cannot become law before being authorised by the sovereignty. (Book II, Chapter VII, para. 47) The separation of power of drawing a law bill and legislation will therefore prevent the self interest of the legislator impeding the collective welfare. Because General Will is the aggregation of many individual wills, it is possible to verify if a law bill proposed is in line with the General Will by consulting the citizens opinions, e.g. by free vote. When law bills are widely supported and scrutinised by the citizens, one can be assured that the social welfare is not impeded by the legislators private interest. # Discussions I believe Huang s proposal is a great advancement in China s political history, for the pioneering idea that the emperor s performance should be scrutinised thoroughly is raised. However, I cannot persuade myself to fully trust such a system, in which one may spot a number of weaknesses. Firstly, the school is merely an advisory body, rather than a body that ... Perception Of Alcohol Ian Markle 10/03/2016 Community vs Paranoia The influence of alcohol has been everywhere in human history and is undoubtedly the most dominant psychoactive substance in every human culture. It was critical for developing countries where alcohol was key to trade. (Awkward) Alcohol was one of the main three psychoactive products (with tobacco and caffeine) which helped drive the globalization of trade from the 17th century. Today, the consumption of alcohol has become more omnipresent because of how diversified drinks have become. Drinking is an increasingly globalized cultural practice because alcohol is a substance with a global history. Producers of these alcoholic beverages tend to be large corporations reliant on innovative marketing techniques. The global alcohol industry is also trying to expand into developing countries while continuing to collect profits in the saturated markets of North America and Europe. Thesis: No one knows for certain as to when humans first produced alcohol. The original alcoholic drink could have been created from berries or honey. But according to (quote), the discovery of late Stone Age beer containers dating back to 8000 BCE demonstrates that humans have been fermenting alcoholic drinks for at least 10,000 years. Since then alcohol has been produced, consumed, and traded by humans for thousands of years. The phonics lesson for the day was the same as Tuesday except for wit /ir/ instead of /er/. I saw surprised that some of the students were still singing the bossy r song. When prompted all of the students could sing it. When we were reading our Basel books I would occasionally ask students to stop, point, and spell a word that was on their spelling test. • 43. I Found Timelessness at Grandmother’s House (Grandma s... Narrative I Found Timelessness at Grandma s House It was finally fall break. I was visiting my grandma for a few days. Well past dinnertime, I pulled up to the white stately home in northern rural Iowa. I parked my car, unloaded my bag and pillow, and crunched through the leaves to the front porch. The porch was just how I had seen it last; to the right, a small iron table and chairs, along with an old antique brass pole lamp, and on the left, a flowered glider that I have spent many a summer afternoon on, swaying back and forth, just thinking. I slowly opened the front door the same old creak echoed its way throughout the old house, announcing my arrival just seconds before I called out, Grandma! She appeared around the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The old antiques collected over the years the smiling peanut piggy bank and John Deere tractor set included still line the tops of the kitchen cabinets, threatening to overflow their allotted space one day and spill onto the counter. The cheap suction cup stain glass window hangings still shed odd circles of light on the dining room table where you least expect it. The old record player still sits in the family room, broken needle, melted plastic cover (an unfortunate consequence involving a young grandchild and a burning candle many years ago) and all. Nothing had changed. I mean, sure, the daughters in law had gotten the major aspects changed over the years the carpets, wallpaper, and curtains but the little things, the important things, the pieces of the house with character, had not changed a bit. There is something comforting about that. I guess it s my timeless refuge from the changing world, my haven from the hurricane of activity that otherwise surrounds my life. My grandmother s home was, and still is, an oasis for peace and relaxation. The only hassle is trying to convince her not to fuss over me, not to have a three course meal on the table waiting for me as soon as I step through the door. In a world of so much pain, so much sorrow, so much death, Grandma s house is love, hope, and life. A place to forget the bombings, the midterms, the break ups it is ... • 44. Stock Market Predictability Essay I will now examine the effectiveness of the Book to Market ratio in predicting stock market returns. The Book to Market ratio is used to compare the book value and the market value of the firm. The book value is calculated by the firm s accounting worth. The market value is determined by the market capitalization in the stock market. It is then found using the formula, Book Value of the firm / Market Value of the firm. Its purpose is to identify any securities that may be undervalued or overvalued. From the research of Fama and French (1992), we can see the cross sectional variation in stock returns can be shown by the book to market ratio of individual stocks. In Pontiff (1998), there were two measures of the book to market ratio that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the paper s findings, the book to market ratio s predictive power is more prominent before 1960 as there is no significant relation after 1960. The paper also concludes that after 1960, the S P book to market ratio is a better predictor of market returns than is the DJIA book to market ratio and the S P book value is better than the DJIA book value in predicting market cash flow . Therefore, the book to market ratio is a good predictor for future market returns as long as we have a measure of book value that has high correlation with future cash flows. Some financial experts argue that certain macroeconomic variables can be used for predicting stock returns. One such macroeconomic variable is the Consumption to Wealth ratio. I will now examine how effective this variable is in predicting future stock market returns. The expected excess returns vary with the growths and dips in the business cycle, therefore, they should be predictable at different stages of the cycle. To examine the relationship, we note that aggregate consumption, asset holdings and labour income all share the same long term trend, but in the short term they may deviate substantially from one another. According to Lettau Ludvigson 2001, we study the role of these transitory deviations from the common trend in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. American Apparel Essay VI. Implementation Plan It is clear that American Apparel has a problem that is largely caused by their controversial advertising materials and the poor reputation of their CEO, Dov Charney. We believe that this can be repaired by assigning someone new to be in charge of the company s marketing efforts and refocusing their advertising strategy to be a more wholesome reflection of their company mission. Charney can, of course, continue to be in charge of the rest of the company as many of his other practices such as his pro labour stance (Schuette et al., 2012) are well regarded and respected. For the good of the company, American Apparel s very first step should be to find and hire a new marketing professional to take over the department and ensure it returns to the company s natural roots. This professional could be an internal hire from within the company or an external hire such as a headhunter or an advertising agency. Hiring an agency is important to consider as they can bring a different point of view from outside the company to help solve it s problems, and because they have more experience dealing with ... The worst case scenario is that Charney is not receptive to the idea of stepping down from his role and continues to damage the company s reputation with offensive ads. Another possible bad outcome could be that the new head of marketing produces different ads but the ads are still not well received by the company s audience or that the lack of publicity from the controversy has a negative effect on the company s sales and they end up losing money. However, it is likely that the company will be able to play up the new ads in a positive light and exploit any publicity gained from Charney s departure to use to their ... • 46. Forms Of Sexual Hypocrisy In George Eliot s Middlemarch The 19th century literature depicts the bodily desire largely rather than being enunciated explicitly. The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual arts and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly used to have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in matters of speech, gesture and clothing. There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy. An ostensibly, even ostentatiously virtuous society which furtively broke its own rules of conduct; a society which had nothing to say on sexual matters but left them but left them to the professionals. The summary image of Victorian Society is extraordinarily tenacious. The novel Middlemarch written by George Eliot (1871 1872) enjoyed immense popularity as it dominated the European Literature in the 18th century. Eliot showcases social values and personal importance by theorizing desire in her novel. The scene between Dorothea Brooke and Will Ladislaw in the library at Ludwick, that scene which lends itself to a dynamic representative reading to desire s function in Eliot s work. In An Erotic s of Detachment: Middlemarch and Novel reading as a Critical Practice David Kurnick places Dorothea in the role of the restless and perpetually desirous novel reader. Kurnick argues that Middlemarch as a 19th century novel depicting English society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
