The ketogenic or keto diet (KD) is a low-carb and high-fat diet that reduces the individual’s
carbohydrate intake drastically by replacing it with fat. The KD makes the individual’s body more
efficient at burning fat, and it can also reduce blood sugar and insulin levels.

Although the most known KD typically consists of a percentage of 75 percent fat, 20 percent
protein, and 5 percent carbs, KD is an umbrella term for several other versions of low-carb and
high-fat diets. The cyclical KD, for example, consists of a pause of two high-carb days after five
ketogenic days in a row, while the targeted KD allows the individual to consume carbohydrates
before and after working out.

that is often around 60 percent fat, 35 percent protein, and 5 percent carbs.
