Spinach Dyes Lab Report
Goal: The first goal of today s laboratory is to separate components of spinach dyes using different
eluants. The four eluants will be using are ethanol, chloroform, 9:1 petroleum ether : ethanol, and
petroleum ether. The second goal of the lab is to separate fluorine and fluorenone by column
chromatography. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) was used to measure the polarity and separate the
components in the mixtures. TLC was chosen because of its simplicity, high sensitivity, and speedy
separation. For each part of the lab, we measured the retention factor on the TLC plate. To measure the
retention factor, we used the formula:
Significance: Thin layer chromatography is relatively inexpensive and simple to use. Undergraduates

Life In Concentration Camps In Night By Irene Wiesel And...
Life in Concentration Camps
The rise of Anti Semitism was affecting the Jews all over Europe. Jewish towns and neighbourhoods
were confined to ghettos starting in 1939. After living in ghettos for approximately 2 years and under
unbearable conditions, German soldiers rounded up Jews and began to place them on trains. The
experiences of Elie Wiesel and Irene Fogel Weiss are just two of the millions of stories that exist.
Their experiences in the concentration camps have many similarities as well as many differences and
not only has the Holocaust left physical scars but psychological scars too, which Viktor Frankel has
written a book about, being a psychologist and a Holocaust survivor.
When looking at the experience of Elie Wiesel, a Jew born in Transylvania, and Irene Fogel Weiss, a
Jew born in Czechoslovakia, the two stories have many similarities and differences. The book Night,
written by Elie Wiesel illustrates his experience in the Holocaust, including his first experience of
family separation and being in a concentration camp. An article written about the life of Irene Fogel
Weiss gives a clear image of her life during the Holocaust, dealing with family separation as well as
the struggle to stay healthy enough to survive. Arbeit Macht Frei was a sign outside of Auschwitz, a
concentration camp in Poland. After being deported from the ghetto in their hometown, Elie and Irene
arrive at Auschwitz in the labour section. They were both given a number on

The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles
In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central
themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central
message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings
and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and
extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus
and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout
Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother.
Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her
child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by
avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that
contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her
prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate,
killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and
conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered.
Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that
noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more
dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays
that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits
shows a son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of
creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the
family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Polynices and Eteocles,
Oedipus sons/brothers are at conflict with one another, both wanting the loyal power of the King
position. Eteclos has claimed the

Food Insecurity Issues Essay
/2016 Franklinton, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, has faced issues since its first
settlement and since, has had to deal with more. Often being referred to as The Bottoms because of its
location and lower socioeconomic status, it has not been able to keep up with the development of
Columbus. In the more recent years, great efforts have been put in motion to increase the quality and
quantity of life in Franklinton. We will explore the redevelopment of Franklinton and the issues it
faces with food insecurity.
The city of Columbus is a wonderful place, bustling with innovation but maintaining a healthy
population. The city runs in a very respectable fashion. Columbus is big enough to be a city, while
being small enough to allocate its resources and put plans in action. Although large, the city is
connected, business leaders and public officials know each other and collaborate to make change. The

Accessing healthy produce can be hard during different times and in Franklinton, it is almost always
an issue. The growing community gardens are providing people with a closer relationship to their food
which increases awareness and involvement. Interacting with food and understanding the process it
takes to bring it to a plate encourages good food utilization. The Franklinton community holds
gatherings involving people in food insecurity and raising awareness about related issues.
As the neighborhood of Franklinton faces its issues, its community flourishes and becomes a place
where food awareness is growing and food insecurity is decreasing. The development of this area is a
great advance and as it continues, the quality of life increases. People become happier and healthier as
they learn and grow. The neighborhood of Franklinton, which was often referred to as The Bottoms is
rapidly growing out of its name. The redevelopment of Franklinton will continue to be a

The Death of Print
ENG 122 404
27 February 2012
The Death of Print and the Drowning of Quality Writing Daniel Okrent has been in the publishing
industry his whole career. He is a published author and has served as an editor for Time, Life, and the
New York Times. In a 1999 lecture to students attending Columbia University s School of Journalism,
Okrent predicts, I believe they (news papers, magazines, and books), and all forms of print are dead
(Okrent 578). A little harsh, wouldn t you agree? But fear not, he then goes on to describe how even
though the death of print is inevitable, it really doesn t make a difference because it is the words,
sentences, and paragraphs in those forms of print that are important. Now, the majority of the reading I

Competitors offering an inferior product with more glitz could force our current information to be
watered down. Think of the future reader 50 years from now. They wish to check up on the news. Are
they going to pay a subscription fee to the Wall Street Journal or go to Yahoo.com and where political
news is coupled on the same page as Eva Longoria s revealing dress, Lin sanity, and a story about a
baseball player s new nose job (all actual headlines on Yahoo s homepage)? Imagine reading a book
and every other page being something completely irrelevant to the book itself. Imagine a tablet, maybe
half an inch thick, shaped when held one way like an open book or magazine, when turned sideways
much like a single page of a newspaper. It weighs six ounces. It s somewhat flexible, which makes it
easy to transport. Its screen, utterly glare free, neither flickers nor fades nor grows dull (Okrent 579).
This is a description of a tablet Okrent saw back in 1999. That doesn t seem too far off from what s
available today. Actually, it sounds a little better. Okrent later makes a good comparison in the format
in which cell phones are sold today and how tablets may be similarly sold in the future. He argues it s
less about the vessel and more about the content in which they wish to sell you on that vessel. As cell

features for this phone was not made by Apple Inc. and that disappoint some users. But the said
technology company will try to conduct some research and studies or some upgrades. We would
recommend the iPhone 7 for those who have a parts small fortune because these advanced
smartphones are tremendously expensive but totally worth it. iPhone 7 has a new camera system that
people who often take pictures and like photography will surely love this upgrade and it has a starting
storage of 32 gigabytes which means you can take more photos, videos, and apps if you desire. It is

Bermuda Triangle Conspiracy
The Bermuda Triangle is also commonly called The Devil s Triangle. It has been called this for many
years because of the many sudden disappearances of planes, ships, and people. The area of the
Bermuda Triangle lies between Bermuda, Miami, San Juan, and Puerto Rico (Ratner, 2016,p.1). There
are many legends and mysteries behind the story of the Bermuda Triangle. For many decades the
Bermuda Triangle has been a source of paranormal activity and mysterious disappearances. Some of
the most famous of these mysterious disappearances include Flight 19, Star Tiger and Star Ariel.
Shipwrecks
There have been many skeptical shipwrecks that occurred throughout time. Of the many shipwrecks
that have happened, the ones that will be talked about are Ellen Austin, USS Cyclops, SS Marine
Sulfur Queen, and USS Scorpion. The Ellen Austin was a cargo ship traveling from New York City to
London in 1881 (Bermuda Triangle, 2016). While on its route to London, the Ellen Austin came

Security, The Big Picture
1. OBJECTIVE:
Security, the big picture
A secure enterprise , big or small, should have an approach to security that is comprehensive and end
to end if it is to be effective. Most organizations do not have such policies and practices in place.
There are some good reasons for this; security clearly comes at a cost. This cost can be measured not
just in dollars, but also in complexity, time and efficiency. To make things secure, it is necessary to
spend money, perform more procedures, and wait for these procedures to complete (or perhaps
involve someone else).
The reality is that true security programs are difficult to achieve. It is usually necessary to choose a
schema that has a certain amount of cost and an understood amount of security coverage. (This is
almost always less than comprehensive and end to end .) The point here is to make educated decisions
for each aspect of an overall system and to consciously employ more or less in a calculated fashion. If
one knows the areas that are less protected, one can at least monitor such areas to determine problems
or breaches.
2. SCOPE:
Knowing the network
It is not possible to protect anything unless one clearly understands WHAT one wants to protect.
Organizations of any size should have a set of documented resources, assets and systems. Each of
these elements should have a relative value assigned in some manner as to their importance to the
organization. Examples of things that should be considered are

Major Concerns for Canada s Northwestern Territories
To solve the shrinking population and already small population issue the Northwest Territories has
decided to look for recruits. The government has come up with a plan to attract 2,000 more residents
over the next five years, to help grow the territory s economy. ( N.W.T. Aims to Attract 2,000 to
Territory1 ) This plan seems to have very good promise since there is a lot to be attracted to in the
Northwest Territories. Aside form the cold temperatures there is a surplus of job opening and offering,
there is plenty of land and space, resources have yet to be exploited and as mentioned before there are
the northern lights and plenty of adventurous activities. The government hopes that at least 20% of the
2000 residents will be students who leave the territory for post secondary education coming back to
live and work. ( With Population Shrinking 1) The government also has hopes to improve its
immigrant nominee program ( With Population Shrinking 1), which will help eliminate fly in/fly out
workers. The potential for economic growth is very promising. In a time where a good portion of
economies are taking a hit, this is the perfect opportunity for people to move and take advantage of the
Northwest territories small population and weak economy. Many people struggle to find jobs and if
they move there is a good chance they could land their dream job instead of a fall back dream. For
example, in the article With Population Shrinking, Canada s N.W.T. Seeks Recruits from the

The Negative Effects Of Office Beliefs In The Workplace
Office gossip is one of the worst problems that can happen in the workforce. When an employee tries
to spread a rumor or something that an employee did, it can have a negative effect in the work space.
There are multiple ways that office gossip can happen and there are ways to remedy the situation as
well. Unfortunately, office gossip is something that cannot be avoided as it is human nature to bring
rumors into the office. There are, however, ways to avoid the situation. Most workers would choose to
avoid talking with others and not sharing their personal life with fellow coworkers. While it is
acceptable to avoid talking about personal lives with other staff, keeping to themselves do not make an
effective team. The first way to avoid office gossip is simple, but not as easy. It involves not starting
the rumor in the first place. By not starting rumors in the first place, there would be no problems in the
first place. Because rumors start from somewhere, then there is a problem already in the office. For
example, if I was an employee looking to get a promotion with better pay, but was in competition with
another coworker, it stands to reason that I would do anything I can to get the promotion. But when
my competition learned that I did something that the management would frown upon, he starts
spreading it across the office space in an attempt to break my chances of obtaining the promotion. If
the bosses found out, not only would I lose the promotion, there is now a

The Depiction Of Unseen Crime Scene In Elsie s Business
Unseen Crime Scene
The scene within Elsie s Business that I found the most impactful to the narrative as a whole, by way
of the writing style, was the scene where Sheriff Parker discovers the body of Elsie Roberts. Unlike
most other scenes in the book, this one is written quite differently. In most other parts of the novel, the
reader is meant to listen to the story and make their own interpretations and conclusions regarding the
events of the novel based solely on the information given, particularly within the tales told by the
character of Oscar to the narrator (195). For the crime scene in the novel, Washburn s writing takes a
far different turn from interpretive and vague to analytical and exceptionally detailed.
Throughout the novel, Frances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In effect, the simplicity of the information provides an easier story to follow and thus a smoother,
more basic array of details that the reader must interpret. However, this simplistic style is greatly
different from the one that Washburn chooses for the depiction of the crime scene.
As if to build up to the change in writing styles, Washburn begins the story of the crime scene with a
briefly detailed overview of the weather conditions and the time of year the murder occurs. They are
described as being a slow moving storm...bringing several inches of snow and the Saturday night after
New Year s Eve respectively (163). So the story goes, Sheriff Parker leaves the police station to make
his final rounds on Sunday morning just before he is to be relieved from his shift and, in the process,
comes upon the frozen body of Elsie where upon which the writing style takes an immediate shift. As
if recounting the obsessive detail of a scene within one of Arthur Conan Doyle s tales of the great
Sherlock Holmes, Washburn begins the scene s analysis through the emptiness of the scene,

Project Manager s Role On Construction Project Essay
Part 1. Investigation
1. The project manager plays a vital role on the construction project, from the very beginning of its
initiation and planning to execution, to completion and handing over the complete project to the client.
The project manager identifies and select the discrete processes to meet the project objective and
target, considering the constituting inputs and outputs for the process (Project Management Institute,
2013). The project manager should be perceptive, well informed and should show keenness to the
project for its timely delivery, under the targeted cost, reliable and durable quality, as projects are
financial investments and a successful project gains the trust of client (Heerkens, 2014). The project
manager is required to perform better than the past, which would be achieved by learning by doing.
The project manager will not be able to complete the project without a team. The project manager
should make a team and take all the responsibility like a team leader for the successful delivery of the
project (Heerkens, 2014). Before starting the project, the project manager should breakdown the
project into measurable tasks, inter linking the tasks, allocating time to each task, assigning tools,
techniques, human resources to each tasks for its successful completion (Tinnirello, 1999).
2. The project management processes consists of discrete and identifiable elements, and activities. To
carry out a successful construction project, the project manager need

Power Capacitors Essay
ABSTRACT
In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the
inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power.
But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power
factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial
consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to
overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives
current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various contactors
to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor to the line will
compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This will avoids the
penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional methods we were
using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive charging of the
capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor near unity by on
and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are connected and
disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem.
CHAPTER: 1

The low power factor leads to the increase in the load current, increase in power loss, and decrease

Individuality Vs Conformity
It can be seen in our everyday lives how easy it is for people to conform to the social norms of a group
or society. Wayne Dyer once said When you re just like everybody else, you ve nothing to offer other
than your conformity and I believe that this statement couldn t be more accurate. Recently, it has
become more acceptable for people to express their individuality and showing one s true colours is
being promoted. It is better to be a unique individual than to conform to society because conformity
destroys personal growth and development. We need to express our originality and by conforming to
what others want us to be, we squander any chance of achieving self acceptance. People are more
likely to conform is when they are placed in a group setting. An individual will not want to break the
group unanimity so they will conform to whatever decision the group comes to, even if it goes against
their beliefs or values. I firmly believe that if we pay less attention to what others expect of us and
expressing our individuality, we can offer more to society and develop and grow as human beings.

Group conformity can have negative aspects to it when the group one is joining is violent and does
harmful acts. The pressure that comes from group conformity can often lead people to do activities
that they know is wrong or that go against their beliefs and values. Groups often provide a sense of
belonging which is why the members of a group will be more likely to perform unacceptable acts. If
someone were to join a gang, for instance, then they will do whatever they need to in order to feel that
sense of belonging. This is when there can be negative aspects to group conformity, when the group
you are conforming to performs dangerous or illegal activities. However, there are moments when

One can only imagine what a banned book consist of, is it drugs, sex, racial issues, or witchcraft? The
answer is it could be all of the above. Chances are, you have once read and maybe even declared a
banned book your favorite book. Books like the Harry Potter series, Go Ask Alice, or The Hunger
Games series are all on the banned book list. These books are often removed from schools or public
library shelves. For many years, American schools have been pressured to restrict or deny students
access to books or periodicals deemed objectionable by some individual or group on moral, political,
religious, ethnic, racial, or philosophical grounds. (The Students 1) The pressure of removing said
controversial books comes from concerned parents or administrators that feel the book s content is too
overwhelming for their children or students. According to Butler University, over 2500 of the 3500
challenged books came from concerned parents between 2000 and 2009 (LibGuides 3) Banning these
books places an authoritarian outlook on our school systems and freedom to read in America. An
authoritarian government places restrictions on citizen s freedoms in return for power over their
country. By restricting children s right to read, one is also restricting their First Amendment rights.
The First Amendment states that Congress shall not restrict one s freedom of speech and press. The

Physical media is what physically connects the computers connected on the internet. For this network
two physical media will be used to allow access to the application layers of the system. The coaxial
cables will be used to create a WAN. While a wireless protocol will be used in allowing users to roam
within the network. A LAN will be represented as follows;
Coaxial cable are classified according to it impedance. The one used in this exercise will use the
impedance of 70 ohms with RG 58. This can be used for the discussed high speed internet
requirements discussed above.
The diagram above shows the high level LAN network design that could be implemented. Inter office
connections could be done using Sate 590553175llite Communication or using a single point ISP
provider to do the networking.
Twisted pair will also be used to plug computers to the main internet socket to aid the roaming of the

Identity Based Encryption is a public key encryption scheme where any string can be a users email
address or name. The advantage of Identity Based Encryption is no certificate is needed to bind names
to public keys. This feature may help to launch a public key infrastructure since receiver does not have
to obtain public key and certificate before receiving encrypted communication. The sender can use
receivers Id as its public key and does not need to obtain and verify certificate on the recipient s public
key.
5. Advantages of ECC over RSA
A. Security
The main advantage ECC has over RSA is that the essential operation in ECC is point addition and it
is computationally very costly. To maintain the same security degree the bits number will increase in
RSA generated key pair. We can see from below figure that RSA should use 3072 bit while 256 bit for
ECC. Hence ECC is more secure than RSA.
B. Space Requirements
Because increasing computation is needed for higher bit encryption more transistors are needed
onboard the smart card to achieve operation. This causes growth in the area of employed processors.
By ECC transistor number can be cut back on since numbers required are much smaller than RSA
with similar level of security. Bandwidth requirements are same for RSA and ECC when message is
long but when message is short ECC is

Reasons For The Failure Of Acculturation
Acculturation is a very significant issue of post colonial literature. Pakistan shortly after independence
divided into the phenomenon of regional identities and multiculturality which is a phenomenon of
acculturation. Multiculturality gave way to the formation of different ethnicities. The present research
paper is aimed to trace out the reasons for the failure of acculturation in South Asian context. For
analysis of the novel, the acculturist model of J.W Berry (1995) has been used. Berry proposes that
proper acculturation plays an important role in lessening social conflict. This paper purports that after

patient, which, in reality, is uncommon. This year, 2017, a movie called Split, depicted a man
suffering from DID. His alters grew in power and created an identity called the Beast , who was
capable of changing his own body into a taller and stronger creature who then starts a bone shaking
killing spree. This kind of alter is incredibly rare in Dissociative identity disorder cases. Most changes
in identity are very casual or subtle, such as a change in tone of voice or attitude, similar to any other
person experiencing a mood change. Most DID sufferers stay in the mental health system for an
average of seven years before they receive a proper

Conventions Of Harold And Maude Ashby
In the Hal Ashby film, Harold and Maude, Ashby uses the conventions of the romantic comedy to
bring Harold and Maude together in order to show the audience that life should be lived while being
the truest person they can be. This film uses the conventions of romantic comedy to make a film that
celebrates nonconformity and choosing ones own path in life rather than one that is predetermined by
others. The conventions of meeting/separating/uniting, the use of spontaneous burst of song, the idea
of the unruly woman, and the opposing characterization of Harold and Maude are effectively used in
the film as a way to push the theme forward and reveal the message of the film.
The use of meeting, separating and uniting in Harold and Maude is used effectively ... Show more

Harold is obsessed with death and goes to funeral and demolition sites for fun. He does not go there to
enjoy what life there was in the objects before their demise, but to obsess over the decay and death.
This is due to his mother s reaction when he blows up the chemistry room at his boarding school and
is told of his death. She faints for the attention of the police officers and the party goers. Harold begins
seeing death as a way to get attention, and sees death, and his fake suicide attempts as a way to live.
Maude is instead obsessed with life. She goes to funerals in order to celebrate the life that was lived
before the death, and goes to greenhouses to see how things grow and live. As she tells Harold, I like
to watch things grow. (Harold and Maude) Maude s obsession with life is what allows Harold to learn
how to live. Since she enjoys watching things grow and seeing how they turn out, she decides to help
Harold. She is also a Holocaust survivor. She already has an intimate experience with death from her
time in the concentration camps. Instead of choosing to obsess over the death and destruction she
witnessed, she instead chooses to obsess over the life that she, and others lived. Her obsession with
life represents the breaking of societal roles that many people are forced into. Since Harold and Maude
are such opposite characters in how they view life, the film is able to

Restorative Justice Practices
Restorative justice practices have the possibility to influence people in a positive way, and strengthen
society around the world. The central purpose of these practices are to make people happier, more
cooperative, and include positive changes. Yes, there should be an increase in the use of restorative
justice. The reasons why there should be an increase in restorative justice practices consist of:
reducing crime, restoring relationships, providing leadership, and repairing harm. Restorative justice
practices are becoming more popular and having a positive outcome for everyone. Restorative
practices could have a really positive outcome on not only the offender, but the victim and the
community. These practices offers everyone who was affected ... Show more content on

The willingness to change, and the increase use of these justice practices from the goal driven
organizations lead to the alliance between the victims and the community. The unity of the victims and
society that occurred created satisfaction and trust that leads to an increase of reported crime. The
increase of reported crimes lead to the higher risk of being caught and therefore, the reluctance of
potential offenders to commit crime (Dancig Rosenberg, and Galt, 2013). This is just another one out
of many reasons why the restoration justice should be used more. These smart techniques from the
goal driven officers will focus on the smart techniques and yield a gradual and more productive use of

Betrayal In As I Lay Dying
Betrayals for Self Preservation Individuals are not born with the conception of vicious intentions.
They are simply taught that the concept of betrayal is acceptable throughout the course of their
lifetime. Many novels, movies, and tv shows focus on the concept of betrayal because it adds depth
and drama to the plot. William Faulkner manipulates this idea in his fictional novel As I Lay Dying by
using different perspectives of characters to display acts of betrayal and the outcomes that they
develop. Dewey Dell, the daughter of Anse and Addie Bundren, double crosses multiple people
throughout the novel, including her own father and brothers Darl and Vardaman. Over the duration of
the novel, characters tend to utilize betrayal to promote oneself ... Show more content on

Dewey Dell betrays him by leaving him in the middle of the night, unattended in an unfamiliar area,
which is irresponsible considering his young age. She also commits the act of buying bananas instead
of a toy train, which he desired. These betrayals are driven as well by her yearning of getting rid of her
and Lafe s child. When Dewey Dell goes to get her medicine from MacGowan, she left Vardaman
alone, I looked out the door, but there wasn t nobody but a boy in overalls sitting on the curb
(Faulkner 248). In response to this MacGowan asks Vardaman if he wants anything, but he gets no
reply in return, then he locks the door and turns off the lights to continue on with Dewey Dell. After
Dewey Dell leaves MacGowan s, she has a conversation with Vardaman about the toy train he wants,
The track went shining around the window, it red on the track. But she said he would not sell it to the
town boys. But it will be there Christmas, Dewey Dell says... (Faulkner 250). Instead of buying the
toy train for Vardaman she insists on getting bananas that she would enjoy, rather than being selfless
and getting something that he would like. She says this knowing that the family will most likely not

The Baroque School Of French Organ
Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions
more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition.
Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal
polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the
sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent
vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of
the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs
being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a
score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and
recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris,
Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from
the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of
principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu.
However, organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast
the boys in the basement could move the bellows!). Fortunately, as we come into the 1600s vast
strides were made in

Process Essay-Giddy Up Cowboy
Giddy Up Cowboy YEEH HAAA! We all have watched those crazy western, old time movies, and
wanted to be able to get on and ride off into the sunset just like the Indians, cowboy or the wanted
rebels. Don t even shake your head, you know you have. Well just your luck, I am here to help you out
with that. Getting your horses, or a donkey works too, ready to ride can sometimes be a dreaded
process however; once you re on, and have the wind in your hair and the cold crispy fall breeze on
your face, it will all be worth the extensive process it takes to go through. Okay first you have to
retrieve or fetch your animal of choice you are going to be riding, such as a donkey or a horse. I would
prefer a horse, but it s your right as an American to choose. Catching the horse/ donkey will not
always be easy and may end up being the hardest part of the process. If the animal is not locked up in
a small area they may choose to trot around, this would cause ... Show more content on

This part should not just be a two minute process. This is when you make your connections with
animal you will be riding. For most they already have a connection, but for you who are just now
starting this hobby, this is a crucial part; unless you want to be on the ground half way through your
ride. So when you are grooming your animal of choice, take time to talk to them. They won t
understand it obviously but certain key words such as, good or their name they will pick up. While
talking make sure you are actually grooming them. It is extremely important to get two certain places
which includes: their hoofs and their back where the saddle is placed. If you were to forget every other
spot somehow, you would make it out alive. The one last thing to include with grooming is to make
sure you use fly spray. This is a key step! Without it horses/ donkeys will get utterly upset and this is
another situation you may end up off the horse due to them bucking at the

Birth Defects Discrimination
The stigma and discrimination of living with severe birth defects
Birth defects are health problems that occurs when a baby is developing in uterus (in the womb) of an
individual (Healthline Editorial Team, 2017). This defect may be caused by genetic disorders,
problems with chromosomes, or environmental factors; disorders such as mandibulo facial dysostosis,
cleft palate and spina bifida. The lives of people with severe birth defects conditions are often
contributed by stigma as well as discrimination. Stigma is a major cause of discrimination which leads
to rejections, being scorned and gossip at; isolated socially, bullied; and even labelled. The book,
Palacio, R.J Wonder, 2012 demonstrated the story of a boy named August or Auggie Pullman, a ten
year old boy living in Manhattan who was born with severe birth defects (mandibulo facial dysostosis
and a cleft palate) which left him severely disfigured. It was difficult for him to make friends. He lives
with his parents, his older sister Via; and his dog Daisy. August was homeschooled up until the fifth
grade but his parents decided it was time for him attend a real school. They enrolled him in Beecher
Prep, a neighborhood private school. There August (Auggie) was faced with many obstacles during
the school year because of his appearance. He dealt with many stigma and discrimination from both
students and parents.

1. If Williams Sonoma continues with its present strategies and objectives, where will it be in 5 years?
Given today s economy, and the bleak economic outlook, I do not believe Williams Sonoma will
continue to exist with its current strategies and objectives to serve its below target market consumers.
Bottom line is many consumers cannot afford the products being sold by the company. Although, the
company s target market is in the 10% of wealthiest consumers, and had total earnings of over 3.5

I would consider lowering price points so I could tap into the more than 10% of consumers without
becoming Wal Mart . Now the company did do something to increase its position that I found useful.
That was to decrease its overall lease space by 2%. (2010 shareholders meeting). This reduction in
retail occupancy costs attributed to the 1 billion dollars the company enjoyed last year. I would also
consider expanding the company s customer base by broadening the product line to similar to Home
Goods or Bed Bath and beyond who currently double the revenue of Williams Sonoma. (Redistribute
assets earmarked for traditional cataloging to online accesses. Not only will this save money, but will
also impact paper usage. I believe advertising in this was has all but outlived its usefulness.

are most effective?
Williams Sonoma has six major competitors plus one more in their market. The company holds only
7.9% market share (FY10) to main competitor Bed, Bath and Beyond with an astonishing 34.4%.

Training staff to disarm and shoot would be crucial to lessening death tolls from school rampages.
Arming teachers would also scare away or prevent people from wanting to shoot up schools. People
are less likely to go to a pro gun zone, instead they would go to gun free zone. For instance, Of the 54
incidents that fit these criteria, the shooter chose locations where guns were banned 37 times (69
percent). Alternatively, the shooting occurred where guns were legally allowed only 17 times (31
percent). Over 50% of the time, the shooter went to a gun free zone. This means that a shooter rather
go somewhere where he/she is less likely to come in contact with someone who has a gun. Another
reason is this, At the year s midpoint, 323 people have died [from] [Chicago s] violence [This rate is
]one more homicide than [the previous year]. With the bulk of the summer still ahead, the city is on
course at that pace to top 700 homicides for a second consecutive year, a mark that had otherwise not
been reached in two decades. It is harder to get guns in Chicago and yet there are so many gun deaths
every year. This means that a huge area with a goal at being gun free doesn t work. Chicago has one of
the greatest amounts of guns deaths in the U.S. even though it is supposed to be a gun free zone. By

Euthanasia Is A Form Of Doctor Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia is a form of doctor assisted suicide. There are many different types of Euthanasia and all
are currently illegal in the United States with the exception of the state of Oregon. When a patient is
being Euthanized they can be given an injection intravenously which causes their death this is called
Euthanasia by action. A person could also be assisted to death through euthanasia by omission; this is
when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also patients can be
given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die, either through the
progression of their illness or through starvation. The most important aspect of doctor assisted suicide
is whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The difference between non voluntary and
involuntary is that non voluntary is when the patient does not request to be euthanized but they are.
Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that they not be euthanized and they are.
Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still regularly practiced in today s healthcare
system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when the first law was written to outlaw anyone
from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and or a harmful chemical that would knowingly be
used in the taking of a person s own life. This would include taking the life of another person with
their permission. In 1920 the book Permitting the Destruction of Life

  • 2. Spinach Dyes Lab Report Goal: The first goal of today s laboratory is to separate components of spinach dyes using different eluants. The four eluants will be using are ethanol, chloroform, 9:1 petroleum ether : ethanol, and petroleum ether. The second goal of the lab is to separate fluorine and fluorenone by column chromatography. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) was used to measure the polarity and separate the components in the mixtures. TLC was chosen because of its simplicity, high sensitivity, and speedy separation. For each part of the lab, we measured the retention factor on the TLC plate. To measure the retention factor, we used the formula: Significance: Thin layer chromatography is relatively inexpensive and simple to use. Undergraduates (like ourselves) ... • 3. Life In Concentration Camps In Night By Irene Wiesel And... Life in Concentration Camps The rise of Anti Semitism was affecting the Jews all over Europe. Jewish towns and neighbourhoods were confined to ghettos starting in 1939. After living in ghettos for approximately 2 years and under unbearable conditions, German soldiers rounded up Jews and began to place them on trains. The experiences of Elie Wiesel and Irene Fogel Weiss are just two of the millions of stories that exist. Their experiences in the concentration camps have many similarities as well as many differences and not only has the Holocaust left physical scars but psychological scars too, which Viktor Frankel has written a book about, being a psychologist and a Holocaust survivor. When looking at the experience of Elie Wiesel, a Jew born in Transylvania, and Irene Fogel Weiss, a Jew born in Czechoslovakia, the two stories have many similarities and differences. The book Night, written by Elie Wiesel illustrates his experience in the Holocaust, including his first experience of family separation and being in a concentration camp. An article written about the life of Irene Fogel Weiss gives a clear image of her life during the Holocaust, dealing with family separation as well as the struggle to stay healthy enough to survive. Arbeit Macht Frei was a sign outside of Auschwitz, a concentration camp in Poland. After being deported from the ghetto in their hometown, Elie and Irene arrive at Auschwitz in the labour section. They were both given a number on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother. Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate, killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered. Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits shows a son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Polynices and Eteocles, Oedipus sons/brothers are at conflict with one another, both wanting the loyal power of the King position. Eteclos has claimed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Death of Print ENG 122 404 27 February 2012 The Death of Print and the Drowning of Quality Writing Daniel Okrent has been in the publishing industry his whole career. He is a published author and has served as an editor for Time, Life, and the New York Times. In a 1999 lecture to students attending Columbia University s School of Journalism, Okrent predicts, I believe they (news papers, magazines, and books), and all forms of print are dead (Okrent 578). A little harsh, wouldn t you agree? But fear not, he then goes on to describe how even though the death of print is inevitable, it really doesn t make a difference because it is the words, sentences, and paragraphs in those forms of print that are important. Now, the majority of the reading I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competitors offering an inferior product with more glitz could force our current information to be watered down. Think of the future reader 50 years from now. They wish to check up on the news. Are they going to pay a subscription fee to the Wall Street Journal or go to Yahoo.com and where political news is coupled on the same page as Eva Longoria s revealing dress, Lin sanity, and a story about a baseball player s new nose job (all actual headlines on Yahoo s homepage)? Imagine reading a book and every other page being something completely irrelevant to the book itself. Imagine a tablet, maybe half an inch thick, shaped when held one way like an open book or magazine, when turned sideways much like a single page of a newspaper. It weighs six ounces. It s somewhat flexible, which makes it easy to transport. Its screen, utterly glare free, neither flickers nor fades nor grows dull (Okrent 579). This is a description of a tablet Okrent saw back in 1999. That doesn t seem too far off from what s available today. Actually, it sounds a little better. Okrent later makes a good comparison in the format in which cell phones are sold today and how tablets may be similarly sold in the future. He argues it s less about the vessel and more about the content in which they wish to sell you on that vessel. As cell phone companies do when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has been called this for many years because of the many sudden disappearances of planes, ships, and people. • 9. Security, The Big Picture 1. OBJECTIVE: Security, the big picture A secure enterprise , big or small, should have an approach to security that is comprehensive and end to end if it is to be effective. Most organizations do not have such policies and practices in place. There are some good reasons for this; security clearly comes at a cost. This cost can be measured not just in dollars, but also in complexity, time and efficiency. To make things secure, it is necessary to spend money, perform more procedures, and wait for these procedures to complete (or perhaps involve someone else). The reality is that true security programs are difficult to achieve. It is usually necessary to choose a schema that has a certain amount of cost and an understood amount of security coverage. (This is almost always less than comprehensive and end to end .) The point here is to make educated decisions for each aspect of an overall system and to consciously employ more or less in a calculated fashion. If one knows the areas that are less protected, one can at least monitor such areas to determine problems or breaches. 2. SCOPE: Knowing the network It is not possible to protect anything unless one clearly understands WHAT one wants to protect. Organizations of any size should have a set of documented resources, assets and systems. Each of these elements should have a relative value assigned in some manner as to their importance to the organization. Examples of things that should be considered are ... • 11. Major Concerns for Canada s Northwestern Territories To solve the shrinking population and already small population issue the Northwest Territories has decided to look for recruits. The government has come up with a plan to attract 2,000 more residents over the next five years, to help grow the territory s economy. ( N.W.T. Aims to Attract 2,000 to Territory1 ) This plan seems to have very good promise since there is a lot to be attracted to in the Northwest Territories. Aside form the cold temperatures there is a surplus of job opening and offering, there is plenty of land and space, resources have yet to be exploited and as mentioned before there are the northern lights and plenty of adventurous activities. The government hopes that at least 20% of the 2000 residents will be students who leave the territory for post secondary education coming back to live and work. ( With Population Shrinking 1) The government also has hopes to improve its immigrant nominee program ( With Population Shrinking 1), which will help eliminate fly in/fly out workers. The potential for economic growth is very promising. In a time where a good portion of economies are taking a hit, this is the perfect opportunity for people to move and take advantage of the Northwest territories small population and weak economy. Many people struggle to find jobs and if they move there is a good chance they could land their dream job instead of a fall back dream. • 12. The Negative Effects Of Office Beliefs In The Workplace Office gossip is one of the worst problems that can happen in the workforce. When an employee tries to spread a rumor or something that an employee did, it can have a negative effect in the work space. There are multiple ways that office gossip can happen and there are ways to remedy the situation as well. Unfortunately, office gossip is something that cannot be avoided as it is human nature to bring rumors into the office. There are, however, ways to avoid the situation. Most workers would choose to avoid talking with others and not sharing their personal life with fellow coworkers. While it is acceptable to avoid talking about personal lives with other staff, keeping to themselves do not make an effective team. The first way to avoid office gossip is simple, but not as easy. It involves not starting the rumor in the first place. By not starting rumors in the first place, there would be no problems in the first place. Because rumors start from somewhere, then there is a problem already in the office. For example, if I was an employee looking to get a promotion with better pay, but was in competition with another coworker, it stands to reason that I would do anything I can to get the promotion. But when my competition learned that I did something that the management would frown upon, he starts spreading it across the office space in an attempt to break my chances of obtaining the promotion. If the bosses found out, not only would I lose the promotion, there is now a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Depiction Of Unseen Crime Scene In Elsie s Business Unseen Crime Scene The scene within Elsie s Business that I found the most impactful to the narrative as a whole, by way of the writing style, was the scene where Sheriff Parker discovers the body of Elsie Roberts. Unlike most other scenes in the book, this one is written quite differently. In most other parts of the novel, the reader is meant to listen to the story and make their own interpretations and conclusions regarding the events of the novel based solely on the information given, particularly within the tales told by the character of Oscar to the narrator (195). For the crime scene in the novel, Washburn s writing takes a far different turn from interpretive and vague to analytical and exceptionally detailed. Throughout the novel, Frances ... In effect, the simplicity of the information provides an easier story to follow and thus a smoother, more basic array of details that the reader must interpret. However, this simplistic style is greatly different from the one that Washburn chooses for the depiction of the crime scene. As if to build up to the change in writing styles, Washburn begins the story of the crime scene with a briefly detailed overview of the weather conditions and the time of year the murder occurs. They are described as being a slow moving storm...bringing several inches of snow and the Saturday night after New Year s Eve respectively (163). So the story goes, Sheriff Parker leaves the police station to make his final rounds on Sunday morning just before he is to be relieved from his shift and, in the process, comes upon the frozen body of Elsie where upon which the writing style takes an immediate shift. • 14. Project Manager s Role On Construction Project Essay Part 1. Investigation 1. The project manager plays a vital role on the construction project, from the very beginning of its initiation and planning to execution, to completion and handing over the complete project to the client. The project manager identifies and select the discrete processes to meet the project objective and target, considering the constituting inputs and outputs for the process (Project Management Institute, 2013). The project manager should be perceptive, well informed and should show keenness to the project for its timely delivery, under the targeted cost, reliable and durable quality, as projects are financial investments and a successful project gains the trust of client (Heerkens, 2014). The project manager is required to perform better than the past, which would be achieved by learning by doing. The project manager will not be able to complete the project without a team. The project manager should make a team and take all the responsibility like a team leader for the successful delivery of the project (Heerkens, 2014). • 15. Power Capacitors Essay ABSTRACT In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power. But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various contactors to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor to the line will compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This will avoids the penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional methods we were using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive charging of the capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor near unity by on and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are connected and disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem. • 16. Individuality Vs Conformity It can be seen in our everyday lives how easy it is for people to conform to the social norms of a group or society. Wayne Dyer once said When you re just like everybody else, you ve nothing to offer other than your conformity and I believe that this statement couldn t be more accurate. Recently, it has become more acceptable for people to express their individuality and showing one s true colours is being promoted. It is better to be a unique individual than to conform to society because conformity destroys personal growth and development. We need to express our originality and by conforming to what others want us to be, we squander any chance of achieving self acceptance. People are more likely to conform is when they are placed in a group setting. An individual will not want to break the group unanimity so they will conform to whatever decision the group comes to, even if it goes against their beliefs or values. I firmly believe that if we pay less attention to what others expect of us and expressing our individuality, we can offer more to society and develop and grow as human beings. Living life as who ... The answer is it could be all of the above. Chances are, you have once read and maybe even declared a banned book your favorite book. Books like the Harry Potter series, Go Ask Alice, or The Hunger Games series are all on the banned book list. These books are often removed from schools or public library shelves. For many years, American schools have been pressured to restrict or deny students access to books or periodicals deemed objectionable by some individual or group on moral, political, religious, ethnic, racial, or philosophical grounds. (The Students 1) The pressure of removing said controversial books comes from concerned parents or administrators that feel the book s content is too overwhelming for their children or students. According to Butler University, over 2500 of the 3500 challenged books came from concerned parents between 2000 and 2009 (LibGuides 3) Banning these books places an authoritarian outlook on our school systems and freedom to read in America. An authoritarian government places restrictions on citizen s freedoms in return for power over their country. By restricting children s right to read, one is also restricting their First Amendment rights. The First Amendment states that Congress shall not restrict one s freedom of speech and press. • 27. The Baroque School Of French Organ Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition. Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris, Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu. However, organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast the boys in the basement could move the bellows!). A person could also be assisted to death through euthanasia by omission; this is when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also patients can be given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die, either through the progression of their illness or through starvation.
