Australian Greens Research Paper
The Australian Greens represent the progressive face of Australian politics and have formulated
their policy positions with a reformist framework. Whilst the Greens origins and expansion are
primarily a consequence of new social movements, splits within the ALP and its supporter base
have enabled them to expand their political voice. The Greens can trace their origins to local party
branches across Australiathat have merged together to become Australia s the nationally recognised
party Greens Party. The Nuclear Disarmament party and the Franklin River campaign bought the
Greens onto the national stage and revealed the power of social movements in elevating the Greens

The ALP has taken a back seat to accommodating new social movements as it seeks to take
whatever measures necessary to achieving government. In response, the Greens have used social
movements as a platform for the party s campaigning. The dynamics of election campaigning has
evolved in Australia and has seen the major parties produce less emphasis on traditional ideology
(Katz and Mair 2009:762) in their attempts to winning elections by targeting swing electorates.
Therefore, the Greens have emerged as a party of principle in the face of blurring distinctions
between the two major parties who seek to freeze out the minor parties and maintain their
electoral dominance. Minor parties have fallen victim to elements of Cartelization in Australian
politics which aims to prevent any challenges to the dominance of the two major parties.
Furthermore, the Greens have garnered support through the belief that the Liberals as well as the
ALP have become indifferent to the desires of ordinary citizens as policies become part of the
state than they are policies of any particular party or coalition (Katz and Mair 2009:759). The
Cartelization of Australian Politics justifies how divisions within the ALP have played a significant
role in the origins of the Greens as voters seek to challenge the dominant two party

Pros And Cons Of Synthes To The Biotresorbable Industry
The competitive landscape of the bioresorbable industry poses a threat for Synthes, as it s
composed of big players, specialists, and potential entrants. The biggest threat is Johnson and
Johnson, which has a strong sales force which comes them access to doctors and hospitals across
the U.S. Furthermore, J J is a major player in the sports medicine industry, where it takes full
advantage of its 2nd generation of bioresorbable technology. Although, J J is a threat in their
ability to develop and market their current bioresorbable technology, this also presents an
opportunity since generation 2 technology is prone to errors. If Synthes successfully develops, a

Interpretation of Giovanni Bellini’s Madonna and Child
Giovanni Bellini, (born c. 1430, Venice [Italy] died 1516, Venice), Italian painter who, in his work,
reflects the increasing interest of the Venetian artistic milieu in the stylistic innovations and
concerns of the Renaissance (metmuseum). Bellini was one of the most influential Venetian artists.
He lived and worked in Veniceall his life; his career spanned 65 years. Little is known about
Bellini s family. Bellini s father, Jacopo, a painter was a pupil of the Gentile da Fabriano, in any
case, Jacopo introduced the principles of the Florentine Renaissance to Venice before either of his
sons (Britannica). Jacopo strove to ensure that his sons would become distinguished painters as well
and, it is said, often pitted them each other.
In Bellini s depiction of the Madonna and Child (One of Bellini s mature works), the Madonna,
with her face calm and collective, is tenderly holding the Christ Child on her knee, the Madonna
is seated improbably in front of a velvet curtain set in a landscape with a city and rolling
mountains in the distance. The transition from a dormant to a verdant nature and a dawn sky is a
metaphor for death and rebirth (metmuseum) . The landscape seems to allude to the theme of death
and resurrection: the trees are barren in the foreground and while the fields follow behind in the
background is all green, the effect is somewhat a little over the top with some of the brownish color
in the middle having been faded over the time (metmuseum). The path

Business Manager Is An Individual Imposed With The Running...
A business manager is an individual imposed with the running of a business. A business manager
ensures that the strategies proposed are implemented to the benefit of the company. Managers
organize and coordinate the execution of tasks, monitor their implementation, and motivate
employees. With these activities, they seek to meet the organization s goals: to maintain and
increase productivity and profits, to meet the changing and more specific customer needs, and to
introduce technological changes in the work process.

Bachelor s degree programs in business administration equip students with management skills that
can apply to all industries and business settings ( What Are the Requirements to Become a
Business Manager? ). I may increase my chances of employment and advancement by earning a

managers with a master s degree may benefit from greater job opportunities and promotion to upper
level positions.
Nearly 94 percent of all business management majors found jobs after graduation, with 90 percent
of that number landing in full time positions. About 26 percent ended up in management, 18
percent in sales, 15 percent in office work and 10 percent in finance (Locsin). I believe that
business skills are crucial for the development of any career. Formal or not, business skills are a
commitment for anyone who wants to succeed. Management skills are crucial to running a
business; a business administration background can apply to almost any industry within the
business world.
Those who study business management develop the leadership and administrative skills to run their

When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and
hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness.
Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and
great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In
my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely
change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art.
Marina Abramovic was born in Belgrade, Capital of Yugoslavia on November 30, 1946. Many
people asked her where she is from, she replied I came from a country that no longer... Show more

Space was involved in the performance as well. A table and two wooden chairs created a great
amount of space in a big room. Until Abramovic decides to take the table away, interacting with
the audience. No movement emotions was made from her. On the other hand, the audience
showed all kinds of emotions. Or by teasing her to see if she would lose concentration. There was
no sound at all, but there is a great impact by her eyes locked to whoever sat opposite of her.
Marina Abramovic uses no material. She finds it important to make her performance last long
lengths for the spiritual and transformative properties Abramovic believes the longer the
performance can get the more transcendental it gets (History). She also believed the longer you
stay the more energy is invested from both she and the audience. Marina Abramovic has put her
body in dangerous and close fatal situations, by cuts and mutilation. To test her physical limits.
She goes through a process training to prepare her for her performance. She prepared six months
before the performance, she became a vegetarian. Only ate at certain times because of digestion.
Very strict diet with very light food and only eating in the morning very certain things. She never
went to the bathroom. She trained by drinking water every 45 minutes and sleeping, 45 minutes
and back to sleep. She isolated herself from the world. Only talk to a couple of people like curation,

Government Control In The Hunger Games, The Giver, By...
I have chosen to explore the theme of Government control. This theme is evident in the novels The
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Giver by Lois lowry and in
the film Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg.
In the novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, Government control is emphasized through
the Capitol being prosperous financially which enables them to have control over the poor
districts. An example that shows this is Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and
there is nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you... This shows
that the Capitol will emphasize that they are better than the districts using The Hunger Games and
that since the districts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example that shows this is the mid shot of Anderton s flight scene where Anderton escapes in
his vehicle, but the control of it is taken over by Precrime in order to take the protagonist to police
premises. This shows that in this futuristic society everything is under surveillance even our
command over vehicles is lost. Not only does the government have control of the vehicles and mass
surveillance, but it also knows practically any given moment where each person is. As a result, the
government has the power to control the citizens using extreme surveillance and take away any
freedom or privacy that they have. With this in mind, Steven Spielberg wants us to understand what
the future can lead to if power is taken advantage of which results into extreme control. As the
citizens give up some of their freedom so that the government can protect them but as the
government gains more control it would undoubtedly abuse its

The Rituals In The Tibetan Book Of The Dead
The Tibetan Book of the Dead is a documentary based on the Bardo Thodol which examines
different ancient teachings originated in Tibet. This documentary is narrated by Leonard Cohen
and is divided into two segments. The first segment discusses the various rites performed by the
Buddhist monks. On the other hand, the second segment follows the path of a priest and his student
into the journey of the afterlife. Furthermore, the six dimensions are reflected throughout the
documentary in several forms.
For instance, one of the dimensions that is mostly portrayed in the Tibetan Book of the Dead are
the rituals. Rituals can be described as patterns of worship such as the ones visualized in the Tibetan
Book of the Dead. Subsequently, in the first segment of the ... Show more content on

This interview can relate to another dimension called: experiential dimension. Likewise,
experiential dimension can be defined as an emotional bond that people have with their religious
community. In addition, it can also be described as spiritual cleansing people feel when
preforming any rituals or worshipping their religion. The Dalai Lama was known for his peace
movement of preaching no violence to the world. He was one of the most important religious
figures in the world and people feel an emotional attachment to him which can also be called
experiential dimension.
Likewise, social dimension is related to experiential dimension due to the fact that social dimension
is all about the sense of community. Buddhism has a great sense of community, as it is depicted in
the Tibetan Book of the Dead. In the second segment, there is a scene in which an elderly priest

Kahnemen s Business Model
As online modes of payment threaten the traditional model, dealerships should adapt sales
strategies to build trust with customers. The data shows that people are apprehensive about
going into dealerships but do like being able to see the car in person where they can ask
questions easily. Management policies should reframe themselves to eliminate short termism.
This is a common tragedy seen in many firms. Thaler (p188) was teaching a class on decision
making to a group of executives, he asked the group if they would undertake a project with a 50%
risk of losing one million dollars and an equal chance of gaining double. Only three of the twenty
three said they would do it. Then he changed the scenario so that the outcomes were all... Show

Behavioural economists and psychologist alike have long experimented with framing, the way
in which an offer is put in context matters in a world in which people are prone to bias. Framings
role in marketing is perhaps best explained through prospect theory, a term described by
Kahnemen. Groups were given a choice of either getting $900 for sure or a 90% chance of
getting $1000. The majority chose the safer option of $900 since people are generally risk
averse. The second problem was a choice between losing $900 or a 90% chance of losing $1000,
in this situation the majority took the risk. The lesson here as Kahnemen describes is that losses
loom larger than gains . Similar experiments by () have shown that people will only risk losing
money if they have an equal chance of gaining twice that amount. So, when it comes to the
discussed anchor price firms should instead set retail prices which include all extras or perhaps a
range of prices rather than a single number for a vehicle. This means that consumers will have that
higher number or range as an anchor by which they negotiate with. If salesmen fail to convince the
customer to buy a certain extra they can revert to the default price. This makes the customer feel as
if they are gaining more as they are giving up less than the retail price.
Competition and pricing Pricing plays a key role in the

the article The trouble With Youth Curfews stated first there were incidences of shop lifting then
on July 29 youths got violent in central city beating and hospitalizing 59 people. Also teens should

The Evolution Of Female Identity
The Evolution of Female Identity
Characterization through stereotyping female identity creates weak characters bound by gender
expectations. The evolution of dimensional working girl protagonists develops an unconventional
female identity, which breaks the common tropes of a woman s role in literature and society.
Independent female archetypes often adopt masculine qualities to achieve status, earnest
acceptance and independence in a man s world. The heroine, Nancy Drew, promotes the corrosion
of traditional female identity, inheriting male identified traits to express success and strength. In the
first chapter of Carolyn Keene s mystery novel, The Message in the Hollow Oak, the archetype of a
strong female character equates success from transcending into male identified personality,
reverting from tradition femininity and adopting male qualifies to express strong independent
characteristics. Through the narrative exposition and indirect integration of character development
through dialogue and inner monologue, female characters within the novel display strength by
identifying with masculine strength. Female identity is contrasted through the characterization of
George and Bess, identifying two representations of femininity as one that conforms to the norms of
gender within society, and one who equates boyish physical appearance with strength and success.
In the novel, character development is displayed through narrative exposition and dialogue. Female
characters within

Equality 7-2521 Research Paper
Equality 7 2521: A Lone Scholar Living in a Society of Street Sweepers
Robert Green Ingersoll, a lawyer, Civil War veteran, and political leader, once said that It is a
blessed thing that in every age some one had had the individuality enough and courage enough to
stand by his own convictions. In Ayn Rands novel Anthem, Equality 7 2521 represents this salient
being. Equality has never been destined to be a street sweeper, instead, it is a sinister motive of the
Council that determines his position. This is proven by several aspects throughout the book,
encompassing the idea that Equality has been set aside from society from a young age, Equality is
an individual in a communistic society, and that the Council has had unjust determinations ... Show

Equality is often locked in the cellar as a child, more so than the other children, for being taller
and more intelligent than his teachers. In Anthem s society, It is not good to be different from
[your] brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them (Rand 21). This saying, told to Equality
multiple times by his teachers for excelling in his lessons, indicates that Equality is evil, for being
intelligent. He often understands the subject matter of his lectures before the teachers have even
completed the curriculum. Equality himself states that No single one can possess greater wisdom
than the many Scholars who are elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet [I] can. [I] do (54).
Equality is one of the smartest mortals in his society, and he even goes so far as to say that he is
more intellectual than members of the Home of the Scholars. Equality s treatment by his teachers
justifies that his occupation as a street sweeper was a sinister motive because his intelligence could
lead to him surpassing the influence of the Council, if citizens decide to depend upon the man
bringing them new innovations in science and

Pericles Leadership Style
Described by Thucydides as the foremost Athenian and most able in speech or action [at the
time of the Peloponnesian War,] Pericles ushered in what was widely known as the Golden Age
of Athens (31). He often exercised great prudence in his decision making and was widely admired
by the Greek people. The man stressed justice, the worth of the Empire, and cleaving one s
personal interests to those of the city. Through his eloquent speeches and definitive actions he
captured both the hearts of the Athenians and territory as a premier military commander. The
people readily accepted his authority, and became accustomed to it. This would only lead to
problems down the road, however, as other rulers took up the mantle of Athens. They would only
be but a gilded echo of Pericles, unable and unwilling to follow his path. Therefore, though Pericles
did not intentionally set Athens up to fail, because of the oratorical skill, leadership style, and
character he possessed, success could only be truly achieved by and through him.
First and foremost, Pericles was perhaps the best type of person to lead an empire like Athens
because of his ability to sway the people with his speaking. Near the beginning of a speech by the
Corinthians, wherein Corinth is attempting to persuade the Lacedaemonians to declare war on
Athens, the orators describe the empire as bold beyond their power, [who] take thoughtless risks...
and never hesitate (19). According to them, the Athenians were an impulsive

Invasion Of Citizens Privacy On Digital Data
Invasion of Citizens Privacy on Digital Data In today s world, people tend to run the majority of
their daily errands through the internet. It is very easy, convenient, and it saves a lot of time. In
one hour someone can make a deposit into his personal bank account, order a medical
prescription, pay bills, apply for a loan, get some shopping, and more. All it takes for a customer
to be able to do this is having an account with each of these company s websites. Creating an
account is usually a very simple process where the person provides some information and creates
a username and a password to be in a position to return to the website. This information provided
by the client is called: digital data or digital information, which is simply any kind of information
in digital format. Digital data can be public or private, it can be kept by the government, banks,
medical providers, and other institutions; as well as a freely available on the internet on websites
like myspace.com, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. But is our data really safe? Along with its many
benefits, the march of technology makes an encompassing surveillance network seem almost
inevitable. We owe much of the privacy we have enjoyed in the past to a combination of immature
technology and insufficient manpower to monitor us. But these protective inefficiencies are giving
way to efficiency technologies of data processing and digital surveillance that threaten to eliminate
our privacy. Already we are tracked by our

Sandra Harding s Science And Social Inequality
A Review of Sandra Harding s Science and Social Inequality
In Science and Social Inequality, Sandra Harding argues that both the philosophy and practices of
modern Western science ultimately function to advance global social inequalities. Drawing on
feminist, postcolonialist, multicultural, and antiracist critiques of Western science, Harding supports
this argument and exposes the ways in which modern Western science engenders social injustices
particularly within the contexts of militarism, environmental destruction, and Western expansion.
Through the nuanced and multilayered review and analysis of these critiques, Harding proposes
ways to re conceptualize the sciences and formulates a persuasive case for the emergence of
feminist, practice focused philosophies of science.
Science and Social Inequality is divided into two sections; this paper will examine the structural
organization of Harding s text with particular attention to how the initial section supports her
proposed reconceptualization of the sciences on a global scale. My aim is to review themes and
key points of the text in order to evaluate the case Harding presents for the utility and necessity of a
postcolonial, feminist science studies.
Part I: The Social World of Scientific Research

situate science firmly within the social and political world and ultimately serve to question the

1.AC 1.1 Describe the factors that will influence the choice of leadership styles or behaviours in

Before describing factors that influence a manager s chosen style it is first necessary to identify
what these styles actually are. Leadership studies stem back as far as the mid 19th century with the
Great man theory , just as the title suggests the theory implies that only men hold the characteristics
to become leaders and assumes that the traits are intrinsic or rather that leaders are born. Much later

Time can play a big part in the style of leadership a manger utilises, some situations require
immediate actions and necessitate an autocratic response others require team participation

One of the more obvious situations by were an autocratic response is required would be in an
emergency situation such as a fire evacuation or drill. In this instance the manager takes complete
control of the situation giving clear instruction to their staff to ensure their safety.
An autocratic style may also be adopted when urgent response is required. An example of this
could be audit non conformance by where a procedural or behavioural change is required. A
recent example of this required a training brief to be delivered informing the team of the correct
usage of sampling containers Vs drinking cups. In this situation the content of the brief is not open
to discussion the employees are expected to digest understand what essentially a mandate is before
providing a signature as proof of briefing, the signed brief is then submitted to the audit body as
proof.
Where more time is available a manager may elect to employ a democratic approach and consult
his or her team to resolve any issues through one to one or group discussions. A recent example was
presented when raw material discrepancies where highlighted within our aseptic facility. A
departmental meeting was called in order to discuss how to implement improved control

Reflection On A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
When I first learned that Convocation was going to be an award ceremony with the writer of
our summer reading book, A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, giving a speech, I did not think I
would like the event. I had only read a little of the book written by speaker, and I thought he was
only going to address the topics and situations that occurred in the novel. While I did almost nod
off during the part of the Convocation were they gave out awards, I appreciated everything else.
As a writer of poetry myself, I really enjoyed the poem written and read by the Professor of
Creative Writingand at first believed it was going to be the only highlight of the whole experience,
but I was wrong.
To my surprise the best part of Convocation was listening

Fresh Movie Psychology
Michael, nicknamed Fresh is a 12 year old kid running drugs for gangsters. Because he is smart
and honest, they respect him. Fresh lives with 11 other children in the spotless, orderly
apartment of his aunt. His father has become a street bum, but still meets with Fresh on
occasion to play chess. Fresh s sister is also a junkie who sleeps with the dealers who Fresh sells
for. As the story progresses Fresh realizes that he doesn t want to sell drugs anymore, he wants
out. Fresh then devises and executes a brilliant plan to extricate himself and his drug addicted
sister out of the lives that they lived. Biological theories are those that postulate specific physical
mechanisms in individuals that impel or influence them either to experiment with drugs or to
abuse them once they are exposed to them. n the 1930s, sociologist Robert K. Merton generated
what came to be referred to as the anomie theory of deviant behavior. In his view, deviant

What Are The Importance Of Religion In Ancient Civilization
Throughout the history of civilization, religion has played a predominant role in shaping the
identities of each civilization. Requiring the act of people coming together in one place like never
before in history, religion has brought divine or spiritual significance to many ancient civilizations
by providing a society a secular idea that they will follow based on what they believe in. Many
historians focus on the tangible foundations of a civilization, religionhas aid in bringing these
foundations by envisioning possibilities taking a societies physical needs beyond explanation, such
as the Great Pyramids or Macchu Picchu. Ranging from the Andes into the barring plains of
Mesopotamia, examining the religions of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Mesoamerica, specifically the
Mayans, and how their views on the afterlife shaped their culture and development. The first
complex society appeared in fertile crescent between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers founded in
4000 B.C. by the Sumerian people, Mesopotamia was the birthplace of religion. They believed in a
polytheistic belief system focusing on anthropomorphic gods. Each city had its own patron diet
with specific occupations that managed different aspects of their hostile environment. To worship
these deities, the society of Mesopotamia built large stepped platform structures made from bricks
called Ziggurats, that was to house the patron gods. As a result, as the Mesopotamia civilization
developed so did the religion. Many

Gender Inequality In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Sexuality over Centuries
And though she be but little, she is fierce (3.2 335). This was said in A Midsummer Night s
Dream. This represents the life women have of being perceived as small, objects, and as
pointless. But as the time has gone by, women have proved to be a fierce as the Presidents of the
United States. When it comes to looking at women and how they have been interpreted, the one
question I have has to be why Shakespeare was against the female gander. He was a man who was
raised in the 16th century so he has seen the roughness the women have to bear. He seen deal with
men having numerous rights, the feeling of cross dressing to get what they desire, and also fight
for their own individual rights. Looking into Shakespeare s work and interpreting his meaning
behind the treatment of women, there are many forms that take place from feminist actions to the
appearance that is showing women, including men, living on their daily lives.
Women in the 16th century lived a life greatly different than the women of today. The normal
occupation for women at the time was marriage and motherhood (McDonald 253). The women
lived a very rough life with only two basic tasks, they only cleaned the house and took care of ...

Women did not have it easy. As I stated previously, women had it the hardest time when it came to

Determination, Discipline, And Dedication
Determination, discipline, and dedication are the three keys to Doctor Sampson (Sam) Davis
success. Growing up in the streets of Newark was not easy for any child, pre teen, teen, and
adult, especially for Davis but with the three D s to success he speaks of in The Pact: Three
Young Men Make a Promise and Fulfill a Dream, shows that anyone can succeed when you have
friends to help you through it all. Even though Davis did not have a perfect childhood,
determination, dedication and discipline would help push him. Davis, as a child, has seen what
describes a dysfunctional family and has witnessed many traits of physical, mental, and verbal
abuse between his mother and father; Your daddy ain t shit, and, Your mama ain t shit (Davis
19). In some instances, the violence was so severe that the use of a firearm or the destruction of
property occurred. Davis father would divorce from his mother but, attempt to be there for his
children, yet the divorce still took an emotional toll on the kids. As for Davis, he would bury his
feelings, to get over the divorce. Davis acknowledged his mother lacked an adequate education,
thus, this motivated him to become well educated. However, acquiring adult responsibilities, such
as writing and making bank deposits and reading important documents to his illiterate was a grand
task for a young child. Times were getting harder for Davis family and lack of funds meant utilities
could not be paid; his family would be powerless. Even through

Verbal Short-Term Memory
General Topic and Hypothesis Verbal short term memory (STM) is better maintained when a
person has knowledge of the sounds and meanings of words presented. This semantic knowledge is
demonstrated by the impact of semantic manipulations (e.g. word perceptibility) and by
neuropsychological studies of word recall deficits. This can be explained either by redintegration or
languagebased accounts. Redintegration is the long term knowledge of lexical forms of words that
facilitate item reconstruction. Language based accounts suggest that STM is supported by
temporary activation of long term linguistic representations prior to recall. The present study
examines phoneme level errors to assess the predictions of the semantic binding hypothesis, which

The first experiment included participants categorizing spoken words based on either semantic or
phonological property, and the third experiment added the condition of categorization based on
perceptual property. Word properties combined with immediate serial recall (ISR) task were
matched with the type of categorization so that differences in ISR can be attributed to the encoding
condition. Experiment 3 was designed to retest whether semantic encoding resulted in better recall
than phonological encoding as in Experiment 1 and to test whether the semantic advantage
remained with the addition of a perceptual property, a high or low pitch, condition at encoding.
The same words used in Experiments 1 and 2 were used, but they were recombined to create a
third set of thirty words to test for the conditions of semantic categorization, phonological
categorization, or non linguistic pitch categorization. A total of 90 test lists in blocks of six words
each were presented to participants. Participants responded to questions that related to the nature of
categorization condition. Following the block of six words, participants participated in immediate

The Threat of Nuclear War Since the Cold War
The Threat of Nuclear War Since the Cold War
I partly agree and disagree with the above statement. Nuclear war was at the height of taking place
in the cold war and whilst it has subsided a little since the end it has not yet completely gone.
Nuclear threat is different now then it was in the Twentieth Century, to prove my views I will talk
about the cold war with reference to nuclear threat and what that means today.
At the end of the Second World War, the world was in devastation, Germany has finally been
defeated and a new superpower emerged: United States of America. To examine the threats of
nuclear war in the cold war I must first look at the causes of the cold war, this would help me ...

For a while, the US was ahead in the nuclear arms race, but not for long the Soviet Hydrogen
bomb was exploded barely a year later. This pattern went on and on and the USA was ahead
most of the time. It was at this time (when all these destructive weapons were being developed)
that the concept of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) came about and many people thought
nuclear weapons were not a threat because of this idea. A population is best protected by leaving
it vulnerable to nuclear attack as long as the opposing side experiences the same level of
vulnerability. So, in other words, whoever shoots first dies second whatever happens. All these
nuclear weapons were owned by powerful countries with precise security measures (though not all
the time) and excellent organization. Also, the kind of threat I am talking about was an event
which could spark off a retaliation which could be nuclear war and human error could also be a
threat and this happened many times throughout the course of the cold war. This is all very
different compared to nuclear threat today.
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a breathtaking event and was the closest the world had come to

In the business world, you can either be a Creator or a Victim. In order to be a Creator, you must

There are many great examples of characters who communicate well in movies. A character with
good communication skills can send messages clearly and understand clearly. To communicate well
one must have emotional intelligence. They use their verbal skills to enhance the non verbal
emotional cues and get the point across. In stark contrast, there are the characters that do not
communicate well. These characters send mixed signals, say words without meaning, or completely
misuse words. The verbal communication rarely explains the emotions they may be exhibiting.

Analysis Of The Book The Magical Realism
1.The novel fits the description of magical realism because a lot of the concept in Bless Me,
Ultima seems realistic but at the same time some of the other concepts seem much exaggerated,
they are like images that can be imagined in our head, but in the book these things actually
happen in life. Oh, our sweet baby, we are coming home to you Aghhhhhhh! My brothers! I
screamed. I bolted up and found myself in bed. My body was wet with sweat, and my lips were
trembling. I felt a heavy sorrow gagging my heart, and it was hard to breath. Outside I heard the
owl cry in alarm. Someone was coming up the goat path. I jumped into my pants and raced out
into the cold night. There just coming over the slope of the hill were three dark figures (page 61
and 62). This excerpt from the book shows how Antonio was having a dream of his brothers and
that they were coming home but, when Antonio woke up, he realized that his brothers were
really home. In a way his dream was a way of foreshadow. 2.3.In Bless Me, Ultima the owls are
symbolic because the owl symbolizes Ultima s spirit. It was true that the owl was Ultima s
spirit. It had come with Ultima, and as men brought evil to our hills the owl had hovered over us,
protecting us (page 256). This extract from the book shows how the owl connected with Ultima
because the owl was an emblem of Ultima. In the book Ultima s owl plays the role of her spirit, It

The Pros And Cons Of Thalidomide
Hazardous Chemical Paper
Introduction:
In 1957, one of the worst chemical drugs was put on the market to result in a major tragedy in the
Chemical field. This drug was Thalidomide. Thalidomide is a mutagen, studied in toxicology, in
which it causes damage to the chemical material within an embryo when in development. This drug
was created in West Germany by a pharmaceutical company, Chemie GrГјnenthal (Recognition of
Thalidomide Defects, n.d.). During this time when Thalidomide was introduced to the market, it
was classified as safe to use. This drug was originally prescribed to pregnant women to prevent

Thalidomide has been shown to help stop the growing process of cancer, and other skin
conditions. One example of this was in 1964, a professor named Jacob Sheskin from Hadassah
University Hospital had a patient with leprosy. This professor then used thalidomide to help
treat it, and the results were successful (Robertson, Jan 11, 2015.). By looking at the image on
the right, it can be seen that Thalidomide does bind to the protein CRBN, as recently stated up
above. When a carcinogen begins to cause a cancer, thalidomide actually stops the process of
the cancer from growing. Similarly, when a baby is growing, thalidomide stops the
advancements in the body, creating a negative outcome. But when thalidomide is taken when
negative advancements are already occurring like cancer, it is helpful to stop them. This is a
great example to show that Thalidomide should remain on the market to help people with certain
conditions. However, there should be rules set into place. For example, if a person doesn t want
to have any more kids, then they should be able to take thalidomide as they won t be affected.
Thalidomide only affects the baby when it is developing, so it should be perfectly fine for the
mother to take it if she is done having kids. (Strong, Jan. 11,

Villains In Gotham
Gotham has a brilliant roster of villains. Season 3 finished its filming before they were signed off
to the fourth season, so there were some decent tie ups to leave us to interpret. Because we know
where the characters are going, we were fulfilled. However, even if we still know where they are
going, doesn t mean the ride can t be a blast. Gotham is devoted to each character, the show
proves it, and the series delves into the minds of the iconic evils. Thus far, Riddler, Penguin,
Poison Ivy are powerfully developed and Gotham continues to introduce more, even Hugo Strange
and Mr. Freeze have made an appearance.
Excitedly, TV Guide Magazine s Comic Con Special reports that Gotham season 4 will have a huge
character from Batman: The Long Halloween. The executive producer himself says probably the
most graphically violent, terrifying villain we ve brought in. Some people would call him a butcher.
And coming from Gotham s producer, John Stephens, that means bring on the gore.

it can mean something good happens by chance it can also mean good fortune. The reason the

One positive aspect is the instillation of hope. Solomon (2004) explains that the instillation of hope
occurs through positive self disclosure. This positive self disclosure demonstrates to the service
recipient that it is possible to go from being controlled by the illness to gaining some control over
the illness, from being a victim to being the hero of one s own life journey (Davidson, Bellamy,
Guy, Miller, 2012, p 125). In addition to instilling hope, certified peer specialists can be seen as
role models. As Davidson et al. (2012) explain this role modeling function can be expanded to
include self care of one s illness and exploring new ways of using experimental knowledge or street
smarts in negotiating day to day life which can include dealing with limited income resources,
unstable housing, overcoming stigma, discrimination and trauma. In addition to the above
mentioned benefits, the use of certified peer specialist may also be associated with reducing the
overall cost of mental health treatment. Research by Chinman, Weingarten, Stayner, Davidson

Accountability is defined by department of defense as the obligation imposed by a law or lawful
order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping an accurate record of government

reflects the combat power of a unit. So what is Personnel accountability exactly? Personnel
accountability is a by name tracking system that manages the duty status and location of every

Therefore, it reflects poorly on the commander in charge of the task. Which leads to punishment
of the leadership in charge of the soldiers who did not report and were not accurately accounted
for. Accountability for personnel aids in the accessing of a unit s assets and combat readiness is
called personnel strength reporting. Personnel strength reporting is a command function that
enables a unit as a whole, to analyze the manning levels and readiness to provide commanders
with a snapshot of the unit s combat power and capabilities. The formula to achieve a Personnel
Strength report is achieved by comparing the by name data obtained during the Personnel
accountability process and face it against the specified authorizations to determine the percentage
of the slots filled for certain positions within a unit. Even though Strength reporting seems to be
only important for the deployment process one has to think of the capabilities of each and every
by name soldier within the unit, if the soldiers do not report to training how will they every be

accurate numbers on the soldiers accounted for. If the numbers are inaccurate in garrison, what is it
to say when it comes to combat situations? How will soldiers know how to perform their duties

Outsourcing Service From A Supplier
Outsourcing is simply obtaining a product or a service from a supplier. Outsourcing services can
supplement an existing internal source, replace an existing internal source, or consist of a new
product or service a company has never provided before.
In the past, it was commonplace for companies to try to do it all. Manufacturing companies would
design, engineer, and build the end product while providing Information Technology support...
regardless of the complexity of the end product and its components. As time went on, it became
obvious that a company cannot do it all. It became more and more routine for organizations to
outsource complex portions of their work.
Smaller companies found it useful to outsource their payroll processing. This soon grew into the
recognition that if it is better to outsource payroll, why not consider outsourcing the entire HR
function? Industries began to grow to support vertical business services such as HR and
accounting. The companies that are chosen to provide the service also accept a part of the risk.
In today s world, the most effective method of doing business is for a company to focus on their
core competencies what they do best. The role of outsourcing is critical to a project s success. It
can expand the customer base and allow organizations to focus more on relationships. As
outsourcing grows, it becomes more and more important to balance advantages and disadvantages,
understand the risks, and act to mitigate those risks.

Speech Language Pathology Intervention Paper
Introduction:
In the field of speech language pathology parent education and involvement in treatment programs
can be very beneficial to a client s progress(TEMPEL). Evidence supports the use of programs that
contain interactive approaches to speech and language intervention(LORRAINE). The importance
of education is often recognized but can be difficult to deliver. The challenge of providing an
effective parent/ caregiver education is an issue that Speech Language Pthologists may come in
contact with.
While some speech language pathologists may choose to deliver parent education using their own
methodology , a large number may opt to participate in teaching methodology and coaching
framework model workshops. One of these coaching framework model workshops is the Hanen

Parents are very important to the intervention process so educating parents on how to facilitate
their child s language and speech could potentially be very helpful to the child s
progress(ALEEN MARHSall) Typical Speech Language Pathology intervention only happens at
most for a 1 2 hours a few times a week, but there are many opportunities to increase a child s
speech and language outside of therapy. Many parents are not aware of how to do this or the
opportunities, which is why programs such as Hanen were created.
The Hanen program seeks to educate parents on ways that they can provide language and speech
opportunities in a more naturalistic environment and foster language and speech development.

Choosing To My Life By Corrie Ten Boom
Any step that removes sorrow from your life is a step in the right direction. Choosing to invite
happiness into your life is the journey most worthy to embark these steps on. I ve come up with
three steps that justify the values of a quote from Corrie ten Boom that says, Worry does not
empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength. For anyone going through a
sorrowful situation, a happier lifestyle is a few thoughts away. The three steps to a happier life in
the midst of a sad situation is: accepting a problem for what it is, letting go of negativity, and
thinking positivity.
The first step to releasing worry from your life is accepting the problem you are facing. My
struggle started when I learned my brother, Sam, had AML leukemia and would have to undergo
chemotherapy treatments. It is important that people get the facts and ... Show more content on

Worrying too much will not create a better tomorrow. Once a person gives up a pessimistic
lifestyle, he or she can gain control over their thoughts and emotions. Letting go of negativity
leaves you vulnerable to have thoughts that still may not improve your well being. You must
choose to see the good in the world and find something to believe in. Personally, I believe that for
every heartbreak in life, there is also something to to be rejoiced. Learning that a loved one has
cancer is devastating, but seeing them heal is remarkable. Choose to have a mindset that
contributes to a happy lifestyle. Learn to realize how many good opportunities a bad situation
gives you. I was able to witness some events in a whole new light. For example, most people don
t get to experience growing their hair back or gaining muscle back at such a fast pace. These
experiences prove how much an illness can take away and how quickly a strong mindset can
restore that deficit. A good outlook on life will heal and strengthen anyone who chooses happiness

Injera
As soon as I walked through the doors of Ras Ka, I felt a sense of home. The aroma of berbere
and niter kibbeh wafting through the room. The setting was quaint and inviting, only four tables to
choose from. The kitchen was open to the sitting area, a see through curtain acting as the door. The
owner, Hannah, welcomed us. Hannah was wearing a colorful netela, a traditional Ethiopian
shawl. My family and I sat down on a back bench and ordered a traditional herbal tea. The taste was
bitter and bland. While I had a hard time swallowing the dirt like tea, I enjoyed the aesthetic of
the spices and herbs. A serving platter of Injera timatim FitFit was placed in front of us. Injera is
traditionally made of tef and used like a tortilla to enjoy lentils and mixed vegetables. The injera
was bland with a spongey texture. However, the neutral flavorof the injera balanced the prominently
spicy flavor of the Ras Ka sauce. Traditionally, Ethiopian cuisine contains wat, a fiery spice. Ras Ka
displays the traditional eating customs of Muslim and Christian populations in Ethiopia by
remaining a fully vegan and vegetarian restaurant. Many Muslims and Christians in Ethiopia avoid
consuming pork, and often beef and chicken. The platter was loaded full with tomatoes, lentils,
green peppers, and onions. The prominent agriculture of Ethiopia was directly... Show more content

overpowered the vegetables, only added extraordinary flavor. As I dined on injera and lentils, I felt
as though Hannah s mother and grandmother had prepared the dish for me. I was captivated by the

Innocent Victims of Capital Punishment are Possible Essay
Innocent Victims of Capital Punishment are Possible Try to imagine yourself being convicted
of a crime you did not commit, and even worse being told you have die for that crime. This
nightmare is actually a reality for some inmates on death row today. The death penalty should be
abolished because the potential for even one death of an innocent man violates all principles of
justice. Can the justice system ever be 100 percent right? Not likely. Then how can it administer
punishment that s 100 percent irreversible ( Lock Up 2)? On October 23, 1989, the phone rang at

An innocent man was convicted of a crime he did not commit. Several reasons exist. First:
Bennett had a previous arrest record and he seemed to fit the description of the killer. Second:
the police were under pressure to solve the crime. And finally above all, because the public was
clamoring for some way to express its indignation (for the death of Mrs. Stuart), found Willie
Bennett a plausible target (Baird and Rosenbaum 97). Cases just like this one lead to innocent
men found guilty with the potential of being put on death row. Today, there are over three
thousand prisoners on death row. Between 1972 and 1996, 68 death row inmates were released
because proof of their innocence was found (Acker, Bohm, and Lanier 232). Only after
struggling with expensive lawyers and a harsh system of justice were Cusson 3 the majority of
these prisoners finally able to receive a second chance. It is preposterous to think that of the
three thousand prisoners on death row, all of them are guilty and deserve the death penalty. The
death penalty is unfair for several reasons, one of them being that legal assistance for inmates on
death row has become increasingly difficult to find. Prisoners on death row filing for appeal have
little or no chance for receiving a fair second chance. Most of the legal work is done for free, and
even lawyers dedicated to making sure these prisoners receive all their legal rights cannot be
expected to spend all of their time

The United Kingdom s Spilt And How It Affects Their Gdp
The United Kingdom s Spilt and how it affects their GDP
It is the responsibility of every government to defend its citizens in all matters when it comes to
maintaining the economy. Every economy comes against different challenges including the
business cycles that may stem from the world market. In this essay I will try to explain the actions
taken by the United Kingdoms union government in trying to make sure that the economy profits
from all citizens and reduce the whole load to it. I will consider the recent events of their split from
the European Union.
There are so many countries in the world have been struggling because of a recession in their
country s economies and United Kingdom hasn t been an exception. A recession is a
macroeconomic term that explains one of the two different business cycles that economies face and
go through. The business cycles are characterized by either a thriving trend where there are more
business happenings supported with a rapid economic increase and parts of a recession where there
is obstruction of the economic development. There are many different features and aspects that
contribute to economic progress, which is measured through the gross domestic product. This factor
will include reserves, investments government spending and other factors within either an upsurge
or a reduction. A reduction in spending might lead to a recession while an upsurge in spending
could lead to expansion.

Shark Finning Is The Removal Of The Shark
Every year there are thousands and millions of sharks dying in the ocean simply, because of a
soup? Not a soup that makes you feel or look any younger, nor does it cure a sickness, but
because of a delicacy. Sharks are at a high demand mainly in East Asia. Shark Finning is the
removal of the shark s fins while they are still alive and throwing the rest of its body back in the
ocean where it takes a painful death. Seeing that sharks are on top of the ecosystem, their
population is also decreasing. Given the way they are being caught, which is clearly a form of
animal cruelty, therefore the practice of sharkfinning must be banned.
The shark fin soup was said to be created in China during the Sung Dynasty (AD 986), where the
emperor used the dish as a symbol of class and wealth. While catching sharks were difficult
throughout that time, it made the soup even more of a popular delicacy. The soup is a thickened
broth made with either chicken or ham broth. The price of each bowl varies from $100 to $1000
depending on the form and elegance of shark fin served. However it is served, it is a symbolic way
of showing stature.
Now a days, it is being served during special occasions, like traditional Asian dinner banquets,
weddings, or even at restaurants. It has become almost as easy as buying a turkey for thanksgiving,
but only this seafood dish has no taste and no nutritional value. With the easy access that the
fishermen s have, sharks are being over fished and Poachers are

The Life of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ means numerous things to people: the Son of God, Savior, the Messiah, etc. But many
might still not know what happened during Jesus s life. There are numerous stories in the Bible.
His story starts in the New Testament, though the prophecies about Him are in the Old Testament.
Through the Bible, people have been able to decipher the Messianic prophecies, Jesuss death and
resurrection, and Jesus s return.
The Messianic Prophecies are prophecies about the Messiah. He will end the dark times, and bring
joy (Isaiah 9: 1 7). God will make this possible by giving us Jesus, His Son (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus, who
not only is the Son of God, but also God, will bring peace. He will be the king. This will happen
because God loves us all so much. God then goes on to talk about how His Son will bring justice,
and will not stick out in a crowd (Isaiah 42: 1 7). There was nothing particularly striking about
Jesus, in appearance or demeanor (Isaiah 53:2). Because of others suffering, Jesus felt their
sadness (Isaiah 53:4). God wanted Jesus to suffer in His life so that humans can be saved;
though Jesus never complained. Jesus was the sacrifice. He died for our sins. But He succeeded
in what was needed to be done. Afterward, He would have a remarkable spot in heaven (Isaiah
53:11 12).
Jesus s death is one of the biggest events in the Bible. Judas, who was one of Jesus s apostles,
betrayed Him and gave Him over to the Jews who had been planning to kill Him in exchange for
money (Luke

Coming of Age in The Man Who was Almost a Man by Richard...
The Man Who Was Almost a Man
What does it mean for someone to become a man? How does one get the key or password to
becoming a man? Some believe that becoming a man is just referring to a coming of age, and it
somewhat is, however there is more. In the short story The Man Who Was Almost a Man by
Richard white, Dave, the main character is a young boy trying to become a man and is searching for
the key. However, there are certain ways to do things in society, and there are ways to not, and both
of these ways have their benefits and consequences. In this short story Dave sees the gun as a
symbol of manhood, and it will set him free of his childhood.
Throughout the short story the reader can tell that Dave is eager to leave his childhood ... Show

Dave still shows thoughts pertaining to the attainable manliness of having a gun by thoughts of
shooting at Mr. Hawkins s house. It seems as if Dave s thoughts are blurred and all he sees is the
key to becoming a man is having a gun and using it so he is doing this as much as he can along
with his crave for power, even though it is just causing others to have even less respect for a
reckless irresponsible child with a gun. However, Dave s wishes were still granted when he is
forced to start maturing into being a man more rapidly than others and having to take responsibility
for his actions.
Every choice has its benefits and its consequences, unluckily, with Dave s choices the
consequences greatly outweighed the benefits that were being received. Dave had the wrong idea
and believed that a gun could symbolize becoming a man whenever all it actually did is rush him
into something that he is not ready for, and cause him to do wrong in the eyes of his family and
the society. Back to the question, What does it mean for someone to become a man? One could say
that Dave eventually learned his lesson by the end of the short story that you cannot push respect
upon yourself by others with force. Becoming a man is by definition when a person with the
qualities often associated with males such as bravery, spirit, or toughness grows out of their
childhood and matures into adulthood. When

Theory Of Natural Selection And Genetic Drift
Evolution is the process in which various living organisms developed and diversified over time. The
study of evolution is important because it helps understand how species adapt to changing
environments. Evolution has been studied over time by observing populations when they undergo
evolutionary mechanisms such as natural selection or genetic drift. Charles Darwin came up with
the theory of natural selection. Darwin believed that living organisms tended to survive and
produce more offspring when they were better adapted to their environment. Apart from natural
selection, genetic drift was also an important mechanism. Genetic drift occurs when the gene variant
changes due to the random testing of organisms. Populations of organisms change over time
because of natural selection and genetic drift. The Hardy Weinberg equation is used to observe
whether a specific trait within a population is changing or not. A null hypothesis is provided by the
Hardy Weinberg equation that can be compared to a straightforward observation of a population.
The Hardy Weinberg equation only remains true under the circumstances that the allele and
genotype frequencies remain the same as generations continue to come about. When no
evolutionary change has occurred, the population is said to be in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium.
Populations are rarely in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium. Drosophila melanogasteris a fruit fly that is
commonly used in genetic studies. Drosophilaonly live around two weeks.

  • 2. Australian Greens Research Paper The Australian Greens represent the progressive face of Australian politics and have formulated their policy positions with a reformist framework. Whilst the Greens origins and expansion are primarily a consequence of new social movements, splits within the ALP and its supporter base have enabled them to expand their political voice. The Greens can trace their origins to local party branches across Australiathat have merged together to become Australia s the nationally recognised party Greens Party. The Nuclear Disarmament party and the Franklin River campaign bought the Greens onto the national stage and revealed the power of social movements in elevating the Greens into a political force. However, the ALP s failure to present themselves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ALP has taken a back seat to accommodating new social movements as it seeks to take whatever measures necessary to achieving government. In response, the Greens have used social movements as a platform for the party s campaigning. The dynamics of election campaigning has evolved in Australia and has seen the major parties produce less emphasis on traditional ideology (Katz and Mair 2009:762) in their attempts to winning elections by targeting swing electorates. Therefore, the Greens have emerged as a party of principle in the face of blurring distinctions between the two major parties who seek to freeze out the minor parties and maintain their electoral dominance. Minor parties have fallen victim to elements of Cartelization in Australian politics which aims to prevent any challenges to the dominance of the two major parties. Furthermore, the Greens have garnered support through the belief that the Liberals as well as the ALP have become indifferent to the desires of ordinary citizens as policies become part of the state than they are policies of any particular party or coalition (Katz and Mair 2009:759). The Cartelization of Australian Politics justifies how divisions within the ALP have played a significant role in the origins of the Greens as voters seek to challenge the dominant two party ... Pros And Cons Of Synthes To The Biotresorbable Industry The competitive landscape of the bioresorbable industry poses a threat for Synthes, as it s composed of big players, specialists, and potential entrants. The biggest threat is Johnson and Johnson, which has a strong sales force which comes them access to doctors and hospitals across the U.S. Furthermore, J J is a major player in the sports medicine industry, where it takes full advantage of its 2nd generation of bioresorbable technology. Although, J J is a threat in their ability to develop and market their current bioresorbable technology, this also presents an opportunity since generation 2 technology is prone to errors. • 5. Interpretation of Giovanni Bellini’s Madonna and Child Giovanni Bellini, (born c. 1430, Venice [Italy] died 1516, Venice), Italian painter who, in his work, reflects the increasing interest of the Venetian artistic milieu in the stylistic innovations and concerns of the Renaissance (metmuseum). Bellini was one of the most influential Venetian artists. He lived and worked in Veniceall his life; his career spanned 65 years. Little is known about Bellini s family. Bellini s father, Jacopo, a painter was a pupil of the Gentile da Fabriano, in any case, Jacopo introduced the principles of the Florentine Renaissance to Venice before either of his sons (Britannica). Jacopo strove to ensure that his sons would become distinguished painters as well and, it is said, often pitted them each other. In Bellini s depiction of the Madonna and Child (One of Bellini s mature works), the Madonna, with her face calm and collective, is tenderly holding the Christ Child on her knee, the Madonna is seated improbably in front of a velvet curtain set in a landscape with a city and rolling mountains in the distance. The transition from a dormant to a verdant nature and a dawn sky is a metaphor for death and rebirth (metmuseum) . The landscape seems to allude to the theme of death and resurrection: the trees are barren in the foreground and while the fields follow behind in the background is all green, the effect is somewhat a little over the top with some of the brownish color in the middle having been faded over the time (metmuseum). A business manager ensures that the strategies proposed are implemented to the benefit of the company. Managers organize and coordinate the execution of tasks, monitor their implementation, and motivate employees. With these activities, they seek to meet the organization s goals: to maintain and increase productivity and profits, to meet the changing and more specific customer needs, and to introduce technological changes in the work process. Bachelor s degree programs in business administration equip students with management skills that can apply to all industries and business settings ( What Are the Requirements to Become a Business Manager? ). I may increase my chances of employment and advancement by earning a master s degree in business administration or another closely related field. Administrative service managers with a master s degree may benefit from greater job opportunities and promotion to upper level positions. Nearly 94 percent of all business management majors found jobs after graduation, with 90 percent of that number landing in full time positions. About 26 percent ended up in management, 18 percent in sales, 15 percent in office work and 10 percent in finance (Locsin). I believe that business skills are crucial for the development of any career. Formal or not, business skills are a commitment for anyone who wants to succeed. Management skills are crucial to running a business; a business administration background can apply to almost any industry within the business world. • 7. When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her... When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art. Or by teasing her to see if she would lose concentration. There was no sound at all, but there is a great impact by her eyes locked to whoever sat opposite of her. Marina Abramovic uses no material. She finds it important to make her performance last long lengths for the spiritual and transformative properties Abramovic believes the longer the performance can get the more transcendental it gets (History). • 8. Government Control In The Hunger Games, The Giver, By... I have chosen to explore the theme of Government control. This theme is evident in the novels The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Giver by Lois lowry and in the film Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg. In the novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, Government control is emphasized through the Capitol being prosperous financially which enables them to have control over the poor districts. An example that shows this is Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and there is nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you... This shows that in this futuristic society everything is under surveillance even our command over vehicles is lost. Not only does the government have control of the vehicles and mass surveillance, but it also knows practically any given moment where each person is. As a result, the government has the power to control the citizens using extreme surveillance and take away any freedom or privacy that they have. This documentary is narrated by Leonard Cohen and is divided into two segments. The first segment discusses the various rites performed by the Buddhist monks. On the other hand, the second segment follows the path of a priest and his student into the journey of the afterlife. Furthermore, the six dimensions are reflected throughout the documentary in several forms. • 11. Kahnemen s Business Model As online modes of payment threaten the traditional model, dealerships should adapt sales strategies to build trust with customers. The data shows that people are apprehensive about going into dealerships but do like being able to see the car in person where they can ask questions easily. Management policies should reframe themselves to eliminate short termism. This is a common tragedy seen in many firms. Thaler (p188) was teaching a class on decision making to a group of executives, he asked the group if they would undertake a project with a 50% risk of losing one million dollars and an equal chance of gaining double. Only three of the twenty three said they would do it. Then he changed the scenario so that the outcomes were all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Behavioural economists and psychologist alike have long experimented with framing, the way in which an offer is put in context matters in a world in which people are prone to bias. Framings role in marketing is perhaps best explained through prospect theory, a term described by Kahnemen. Groups were given a choice of either getting $900 for sure or a 90% chance of getting $1000. The majority chose the safer option of $900 since people are generally risk averse. The second problem was a choice between losing $900 or a 90% chance of losing $1000, in this situation the majority took the risk. The lesson here as Kahnemen describes is that losses loom larger than gains . Similar experiments by () have shown that people will only risk losing money if they have an equal chance of gaining twice that amount. So, when it comes to the discussed anchor price firms should instead set retail prices which include all extras or perhaps a range of prices rather than a single number for a vehicle. This means that consumers will have that higher number or range as an anchor by which they negotiate with. If salesmen fail to convince the customer to buy a certain extra they can revert to the default price. This makes the customer feel as if they are gaining more as they are giving up less than the retail price. Competition and pricing Pricing plays a key role in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Evolution Of Female Identity The Evolution of Female Identity Characterization through stereotyping female identity creates weak characters bound by gender expectations. The evolution of dimensional working girl protagonists develops an unconventional female identity, which breaks the common tropes of a woman s role in literature and society. Independent female archetypes often adopt masculine qualities to achieve status, earnest acceptance and independence in a man s world. The heroine, Nancy Drew, promotes the corrosion of traditional female identity, inheriting male identified traits to express success and strength. In the first chapter of Carolyn Keene s mystery novel, The Message in the Hollow Oak, the archetype of a strong female character equates success from transcending into male identified personality, reverting from tradition femininity and adopting male qualifies to express strong independent characteristics. Through the narrative exposition and indirect integration of character development through dialogue and inner monologue, female characters within the novel display strength by identifying with masculine strength. Female identity is contrasted through the characterization of George and Bess, identifying two representations of femininity as one that conforms to the norms of gender within society, and one who equates boyish physical appearance with strength and success. In the novel, character development is displayed through narrative exposition and dialogue. Female characters within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Equality 7-2521 Research Paper Equality 7 2521: A Lone Scholar Living in a Society of Street Sweepers Robert Green Ingersoll, a lawyer, Civil War veteran, and political leader, once said that It is a blessed thing that in every age some one had had the individuality enough and courage enough to stand by his own convictions. In Ayn Rands novel Anthem, Equality 7 2521 represents this salient being. Equality has never been destined to be a street sweeper, instead, it is a sinister motive of the Council that determines his position. This is proven by several aspects throughout the book, encompassing the idea that Equality has been set aside from society from a young age, Equality is an individual in a communistic society, and that the Council has had unjust determinations ... In Anthem s society, It is not good to be different from [your] brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them (Rand 21). This saying, told to Equality multiple times by his teachers for excelling in his lessons, indicates that Equality is evil, for being intelligent. He often understands the subject matter of his lectures before the teachers have even completed the curriculum. Equality himself states that No single one can possess greater wisdom than the many Scholars who are elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet [I] can. [I] do (54). Equality is one of the smartest mortals in his society, and he even goes so far as to say that he is more intellectual than members of the Home of the Scholars. Equality s treatment by his teachers justifies that his occupation as a street sweeper was a sinister motive because his intelligence could lead to him surpassing the influence of the Council, if citizens decide to depend upon the man bringing them new innovations in science and ... • 16. Pericles Leadership Style Described by Thucydides as the foremost Athenian and most able in speech or action [at the time of the Peloponnesian War,] Pericles ushered in what was widely known as the Golden Age of Athens (31). He often exercised great prudence in his decision making and was widely admired by the Greek people. The man stressed justice, the worth of the Empire, and cleaving one s personal interests to those of the city. Through his eloquent speeches and definitive actions he captured both the hearts of the Athenians and territory as a premier military commander. The people readily accepted his authority, and became accustomed to it. This would only lead to problems down the road, however, as other rulers took up the mantle of Athens. They would only be but a gilded echo of Pericles, unable and unwilling to follow his path. Therefore, though Pericles did not intentionally set Athens up to fail, because of the oratorical skill, leadership style, and character he possessed, success could only be truly achieved by and through him. First and foremost, Pericles was perhaps the best type of person to lead an empire like Athens because of his ability to sway the people with his speaking. Near the beginning of a speech by the Corinthians, wherein Corinth is attempting to persuade the Lacedaemonians to declare war on Athens, the orators describe the empire as bold beyond their power, [who] take thoughtless risks... and never hesitate (19). It is very easy, convenient, and it saves a lot of time. In one hour someone can make a deposit into his personal bank account, order a medical prescription, pay bills, apply for a loan, get some shopping, and more. All it takes for a customer to be able to do this is having an account with each of these company s websites. Sandra Harding s Science And Social Inequality A Review of Sandra Harding s Science and Social Inequality In Science and Social Inequality, Sandra Harding argues that both the philosophy and practices of modern Western science ultimately function to advance global social inequalities. Drawing on feminist, postcolonialist, multicultural, and antiracist critiques of Western science, Harding supports this argument and exposes the ways in which modern Western science engenders social injustices particularly within the contexts of militarism, environmental destruction, and Western expansion. Through the nuanced and multilayered review and analysis of these critiques, Harding proposes ways to re conceptualize the sciences and formulates a persuasive case for the emergence of feminist, practice focused philosophies of science. Science and Social Inequality is divided into two sections; this paper will examine the structural organization of Harding s text with particular attention to how the initial section supports her proposed reconceptualization of the sciences on a global scale. This semantic knowledge is demonstrated by the impact of semantic manipulations (e.g. word perceptibility) and by neuropsychological studies of word recall deficits. This can be explained either by redintegration or languagebased accounts. Redintegration is the long term knowledge of lexical forms of words that facilitate item reconstruction. Shark Finning is the removal of the shark s fins while they are still alive and throwing the rest of its body back in the ocean where it takes a painful death. Seeing that sharks are on top of the ecosystem, their population is also decreasing. Given the way they are being caught, which is clearly a form of animal cruelty, therefore the practice of sharkfinning must be banned. In this short story Dave sees the gun as a symbol of manhood, and it will set him free of his childhood. Throughout the short story the reader can tell that Dave is eager to leave his childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dave still shows thoughts pertaining to the attainable manliness of having a gun by thoughts of shooting at Mr. Hawkins s house. It seems as if Dave s thoughts are blurred and all he sees is the key to becoming a man is having a gun and using it so he is doing this as much as he can along with his crave for power, even though it is just causing others to have even less respect for a reckless irresponsible child with a gun. However, Dave s wishes were still granted when he is forced to start maturing into being a man more rapidly than others and having to take responsibility for his actions. Every choice has its benefits and its consequences, unluckily, with Dave s choices the consequences greatly outweighed the benefits that were being received. Dave had the wrong idea and believed that a gun could symbolize becoming a man whenever all it actually did is rush him into something that he is not ready for, and cause him to do wrong in the eyes of his family and the society. Back to the question, What does it mean for someone to become a man? Becoming a man is by definition when a person with the qualities often associated with males such as bravery, spirit, or toughness grows out of their childhood and matures into adulthood. When ... • 59. Theory Of Natural Selection And Genetic Drift Evolution is the process in which various living organisms developed and diversified over time. The study of evolution is important because it helps understand how species adapt to changing environments. Evolution has been studied over time by observing populations when they undergo evolutionary mechanisms such as natural selection or genetic drift. Charles Darwin came up with the theory of natural selection. Darwin believed that living organisms tended to survive and produce more offspring when they were better adapted to their environment. Apart from natural selection, genetic drift was also an important mechanism. Genetic drift occurs when the gene variant changes due to the random testing of organisms. Populations of organisms change over time because of natural selection and genetic drift. The Hardy Weinberg equation is used to observe whether a specific trait within a population is changing or not. A null hypothesis is provided by the Hardy Weinberg equation that can be compared to a straightforward observation of a population. The Hardy Weinberg equation only remains true under the circumstances that the allele and genotype frequencies remain the same as generations continue to come about. When no evolutionary change has occurred, the population is said to be in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium. Populations are rarely in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium. Drosophila melanogasteris a fruit fly that is commonly used in genetic studies. Drosophilaonly live around two weeks. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
