We All Fall Down Critical Analysis
In Robert Cormier s novel, We All Fall Down, is a young adult thriller that explores the evil side of
humanity through a number of corrupt characters. Cormier, to a large extent, accurately depicts
manipulative and dishonest behaviour whilst also showing the evil lurking within the prominent
characters of Harry Flowers, Buddy Walker and Mickey Stallings who showcase the dark side of
humanity. Cormier explores this through Harry Flower s manipulative actions that result in the
suffering of others. Additionally, the constant dishonest behaviour is shown predominantly through
the main protagonist of Buddy Walker, who deceives the one he loves. Cormier continues to depict
the evillurking in society through the theme of appearance versus reality through the seemingly
harmless character of Mickey Stallings. Cormier successfully depicts manipulative and dishonest
behaviour as well as showing the evil lurking in the dark side of humanity.
In the novel, We All Fall Down, Cormier is able to show the repercussions of manipulative
behaviour, through the character of Harry Flowers. Harry is able to manipulate Buddy s
thoughts and actions due to his vulnerability. Harry fools Buddy into believing that his actions
on the night of the trashing were deceiving, this can be shown with Harry trying to convince
Buddy of this, Maybe I was trying to grab her and save her from falling, Harry said, his voice
suddenly mild and reasonable. Maybe it only looked like I pushed her. What do they

Nursing Assistant Is The Basic Quality Of Life Needs For...
A Nursing assistant fulfills the basic quality of life needs for patients of any age in residential
nursing care facilities or outpatient centers. Responsibilities of a CNA vary based on employment.
CNAs can be employed in many different settings, such as nursing homes, hospitals, personal
homes or anywhere else personal care is needed. Nursing Assistants act as helpful link between
nurse and the patient. In many cases, the nursing assistant is the eyes and ears for the nurse,
relaying information between nurse and many patients. Becoming a CNA is a serious and tedious
job. To obtain a Certified Nursing Assistantlicenses the student must complete class, lab and
clinical time in a course that can endure between six to twelve months.
There are many steps to obtaining a CNA license. Finding a school, completing the course,
applying for the licenses, and passing the state boards are all critical steps in becoming a
Certified Nursing Assistant. First, a school course must be chosen. Most small colleges, or
technical colleges offer CNA classes. High School health programs have also began to offer the
classes for free as an elective before graduating. Every school offers different duration of
completing and prices, an average license can be earned in six to twelve months ranging in price
from $150 to $350.

Descriptive Essay On Funerals
Helena Iero
Loving daughter and sister
1977 2004
27 yrs old
So long and goodnight. I heard Gerard sing loud and proud. It was my funeral and I m laying
with my eyes closed, not able to see my best friends. I could feel Gerard s tears without even
looking at him. Funerals are sad but I could never deal with having my best friend like this. The
only thing I never got about funerals is why they dress you up to be pretty. I mean, you re dead
for Pete s sake. Nobody in heaven or hell is going to judge you on what you re wearing, well I
hope not. The dress I wore was pretty though. It had red and black lacing on it. I don t know who
picked it out but this dress was from the party that I first met the boys at and that was pretty fun.
11 yrs earlier
It was a very sunny October morning, but it wasn t any morning, it was Halloween morning. It was
also graduation morning. Why on Halloween? Well, I don t know. Anyways, I put on a white
dress that reached my knees and put on black flats. I braided my dark hair and threw on a
necklace. The necklace was one my mother gave me when I was little before she passed. I looked
in the mirror and I gripped the charm on the necklace. My brother then walked into the room and
placed a calming hand on my shoulder. I looked at him through the mirror and smiled.
Mother and father would be proud if they were here, My brother said. I sighed.
Yeah, but I m glad I m getting taken care of by my big brother, I turned around and gave my brother

Cartesian Dualism Essay
Part 1: An Abbreviated Intellectual History of Thinking About the Mind
In social cognition, theory of mind refers to a person s ability to make causal attributions about
other people s mental states and actions. Though our understanding of the mind has increased in
sophistication with advances in science, the task of reasoning about others in prosaic settings can
probably be said to be the earliest form of cognitive science. Its axioms and fundamental
philosophy have been passed down through the generations in the form of what we might today call
folk psychology . Though folk psychology has many meanings in the literature, here it is used to
refer to the attribution of mental phenomena like beliefs, desires, love, hate, etc. to others in an

Many simply abandoned the dualist framework, and developed schools of thought that were either
purely idealistic or materialistic. The cartesian separation of mind and body was not only an
ontological debate about what existed in the world, but also one deeply tied to the dialectic
between secular/scientific thought and moral/religious ones. For the church, materialism unsettled
their traditional claim over knowledge about the world. As science offered ever more powerful
explanatory systems for the natural world, cartesian dualism offered a way for theologians to
assert authority over matters of the mind, and by extension, matters of the self and soul. In the face
of biological decline and death, Descartes s mind body separation also offered a ontological
mechanism by which the human spirit could live on.9
However, by the 19th century, materialism had thoroughly displaced dualism and idealism in
examinations of the mind. In a scientific culture that valued reproducibility and objectivity, a
reliance on subjective experience proved problematic. Subjectivity increasingly

Angela Merkel Research Paper
Merkel was born in Hamburg, Germany to a Lutheran pastor father and a Latin and English teacher
mother. After her birth, her family moved to communist East Germany, then known as the German
Democratic Republic. In the same year Merkel s family moved east, 20,000 other Germans fled
west. It was her time under a communist regime where, she gathered the qualities cultivated as a
necessity in the East patience, blandness, intellectual rigor and an inconspicuous but ferocious drive
and changed not only her life but the course of history (Vick).
Merkel became involved in politics as a youth, joining Germany s Young Pioneers and Free
German Youth in the 1960s. The group was technically voluntary but, for children in the east, it
was practically necessary if you wanted to be accepted into any university. In 1973, Angela began

Themes In A Rose For Emily
In the short story A Rose for Emily , William Faulkner writes about a woman s life through the
eyes of Southern townspeople. The main character, Emily Grierson, struggles with her life
because of the townspeople s perspective of her actions. Because of the many references that are
made throughout the story, the setting is very recognizable and easy to identify. Although the
southern references are very distinct, many of these southern values, norms, and perspectives
vary and change throughout the years. Throughout the story, Faulkner describes the story s
setting through historical, social, and cultural references towards certain eras. In the beginning
of the story, the readers are told that Emily lived in a big, squarish frame house that had once
been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome
style of the seventies (998). The style of Emily s house portrays an old plantation house. These
types of houses were mainly used during Civil War because of the popularity of slavery in the
South. Because the story is set in the South, much of the South s past during the Civil War is
mentioned. The narrator explains Colonel Sartoris made a decree that stated, no Negro woman
should appear on the streets without an apron (998). During the Civil War and post Civil War eras,
white people had control over the actions of African Americans. Because of what is known about
the South during the Civil War, Colonel Sartoris s

The Tempest And Of Cannibals
4 Differing Reading on The Tempest
Simply looking at the text in isolation The Tempest is a complex mixture of a comedy, a tragedy
and a romance. Although it was originally categorised as a comedy, it is more modernly thought of
as a romance. It has the classical element of a comedy, with clownish characters, odd occurrences
and resolution; it also has some very dominating Romantic features. The story, although ultimately
about revenge, is also a story of naГЇve love and forgiveness. It tells of chivalry, the supernatural as
well as exotic, unknown location by the sea, all drawn from traditional romance. By looking
beyond the text itself, the decision on it elusive genre can be decided by perspective.

This idea then ties into Montaigne s Of Cannibals , an essay that questions the idea that society
dictates if someone is different, you are therefore superior. Many and the 19th century exposed
groups of savage people s simplistic lifestyle. The character of Caliban especially seems to create
contrasting views on people in their natural state. Although Shakespeare s The Tempestand Of
Cannibals sharply contrast, and Caliban often disproves Montaigne theories, they also draw so
similarities, linking both texts through the character Caliban. Although Caliban s character is
often shown in a negative way, he also had several speeches that give the audience an idea of his
perception and humanity, which isn t as savage as first perceived. He represents a stereotype and
image many had of these savages in faraway lands, influence by books or others stories. Both
texts beg the question of what has changed, what we have learned, and what we perceive as
savagery; is it a simplistic lifestyle, or the colonising of other land though force and power.
Colonialism is the discovery and control of new lands, and was a big issue around Shakespeare s
time. Through colonization, Europe dominated and imposed on native, which is what Prospero did

Barriers In Chinese Cinderella
Every adolescent has struggles and problems that need to be resolved throughout their life,
however, one constant is that their parents are always there for them. Whether they fix the
problem themselves, or help their child through it, the child almost always receives the help they
require. A quote from Mending Wall by Robert Frost helps describe what it is like when the
parents are not there for the child. Something there is that doesn t love a wall, that sends the
frozen ground swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two
can pass abreast (1). In this instance, the child is the wall, and the parent is the person that does not
love it. Slowly, the child will break apart, and eventually collapse without the affection and support
they need. In Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, this is one of the few unfortunate exceptions
where the child doesn t acquire assistance from any parent. Adeline had many occurrences within
her community that changed her mentality, one being that her self esteem declined, and made her
feel like she needs to prove herself worthy, no matter the circumstance. Adeline s step mother,
Niang, never fails to be uncouth towards her, not just by damaging her self esteem, but also
through verbal and physical abuse (whipping, hitting, etc.). I approached her gingerly, trembling
with terror. She slapped my face so hard I almost fell... ...she slapped me with the back of her hand
against my other cheek (Mah 114 115).

Summary Of The Snake In Book Two Of The Aeneids
At first, it seems odd to compare a snake to a fire. One lives among us, but the other is never
actually living. However, taking a different perspective, a person might notice that the two hiss,
creep, and have wavering tongues. Virgil makes use of this comparison extensively throughout
Book Two of The Aeneid. The brutality of the attackers, their deception, and the fires which
complete their task are repeatedly linked to the action of the snake. The snake attacks from hiding,
as did the Greeks from the womb of the Trojan horse. Subsequently, brutality as an attribute of the
snake is imposed on the scholar s consciousness in Book Two of The Aeneid through the account of
the destiny of Laocoon and his two sons. Hence, the snake is an... Show more content on

They re real, and they re dangerous. Nonetheless, if you look deeper, you ll see that they are
something more. They prophesize the downfall of Troy as a whole. The snakes come from
Tenedos, which is also where the Greeks are supposedly hiding. And, obviously, they take out a
man who otherwise would ve prevented the Trojan horse from invading into Trojan territory.
Over the calm deep straits of Tenedos swim
Twin, giant serpents, rearing in coils, breasting the seaswell...
First each serpent seizes one of his small young sons,
Constricting, twisting around him, sinks its fangs in
The tortured limbs, and gorges. Next Laocoon rushing to the rescue, clutching his sword
They trap him, bind him in huge muscular whorls,
Their scaly backs lashing around his midriff twice
And twice around his throat their heads, their flaring necks mounting over their victim writhing
still... his horrible screaming fills the skies... (262 282)
This horrifying image carries all the power of the destruction of Troy. These lines foretell not only
the presence of the Greek formation (the fact that they arrived from Tenedos), but the assault (the
murders), the Trojan defense, the murder of Polites and Priam (the son first and the father last),
and the fires which rise above blazing Troy (their flaring necks and the screams that fill the skies).
They display the destruction of Troy as the life of the snake.

Coastal Erosion Of Coastal Vegetation Depending On Their...
The comprehension of the distribution of coastal vegetation depending on their salinity tolerance is
very significant to the understanding of coastal ecological modeling. Coastal ecological modeling
depends largely on the interplay of salinity and the formation, productivity and perishability of
coastal plants to infer or predict any coastal change. Plants that sustain in a highly saline
environment are termed as halophytes, including mangroves, which tolerate salinitybut perhaps do
not require salt to perform their physiological activities. Mangroves are an important type of marine
halophytes, which are influenced by salinity throughout their lives but manage to thrive in spite of
difficulties. There are two types of halophytes: facultative halophytes and obligate halophytes.
Facultative halophytes can sustain in fresh water but grow rapidly with the increase in salinity up
to an optimum level. On the other hand, obligate halophytecannot stand fresh water and have
optimal growth in similar or more than the salinity range of facultative halophytes. The general
consensus among scientists on mangrovecategorization is that mangroves are facultative
halophytes, as the distinction depends on the ability of mangroves to survive in fresh water. In the
review article On the halophytic nature of mangroves , Krauss and Ball (2013) contended that
mangroves do not need salt for survival and hence are truly facultative halophytes. The authors

Balance In The Oresteia
Through the three plays of The Oresteia, we are exposed to many opposing forces of power.
Elements such as darkness, light, fate, patriarchy, and justice are intertwined to make up
Aeschylus tragic tale, however all of these elements are directed by one central force: balance.
The word balance itself suggests a state of equilibrium or a stable environment. Balance is often
looked at as a scale; if one side of the scale is overpowering the other, then it creates a state of
disorder, irregularity, and even chaos. Aeschylus meddles with the scales of balance but, in the end,
reinforces the equipoise of power. I would argue that, not only does The Oresteiainclude balance as
a critical underlying theme and is strategically used in determining the outcome of the play, but
that the role of Athena is vital in creating this balance. In this play, there are many cases in which
the word balance can be substituted for the word justice. The final play, The Eumenides, is
significantly based on the idea of balance. Aeschylus puts it as justice waits and turns the scales
(line 61), meaning that justice is purposeful, and is one of the components that forces the balance
within the play. By analyzing the reference to the tipping of the scales, we can assume a reversal
of fortune and what is fated to happen. With the trial being the main plotline of the last play, it
reveals the scales tipping towards justice and leaves us with a sense of harmony. The two sides of
justice are seen

Human Resources Management practise to change traditional union management relations. Later
public sector also adopted this practise. The purpose of this was to open clear communications

misleading to young children. The mom is not only playing the traditional role of a housewife, but

Inked into Crime? An Examination of the Casual Relationships between Tattoos and Life Course
Offending among males from the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development (Jennings, Hahn,
Farrington 2014) and Nonmainstream Body Modification: Genital Piercing, Branding, Burning, and
Cutting (Myers 1992). Jennings, Hahn, and Farrington s article investigates the correlation between
tattoos and deviant behavior. In addition, the researches ultimately want to discover if the
relationship between tattoos and crime may in fact be casual, or are just another symptom of
developmental risk factors and personality traits (Jennings, Hahn, Farrington 79).... Show more

Included in the study were males, females, homosexuals, heterosexuals, and bisexuals. Myers spent
a vast amount of time exploring various workshops and tattoo/piercing studios observing,
interviewing, and lecturing individuals on his current study. An example of this is when Myers
attended the Living in Leather Convention as he stated I was able to expand my involvement by
showing my body modification slides to several people, attending parties, and helping out at the
host organization s hospitality suite (1992:176). Though both studies rely heavily on body
modification, they differ in a couple of ways. While the first study was considered a longitudinal
study, the second one was considered a quasi experimental study. The first study was done in a
period of 53 years while the second study was done in a period of 2 years. Another difference is
that the first study relied on a different type of sampling than the second. The first one involved
quota sampling because the researchers knew exactly who they wanted to choose for participants in
their study. The second study involved both random and accidental sampling for data observation
and collection.
I believe that Jennings, Hahn, and Farrington s (2014) study was less effective than Myer s study.
Though Jennings, Hahn, and Farrington s study is the first longitudinal study to measure tattoo
crime link, there are a few limitations. Instead of using a quota sample of

Satan In John Steinbeck s The Book Of Job
God is sovereign and knows all, yet the man he created does not. He alone knows how strong each
individual s faith is and how far it can go before conforming. In The Book of Job, many people
believed God presented Job to Satan because he had something to prove. Satan s idea was simple
if God removed his hand from one of his most righteous followers that he would be cursed to his
face. Godknew that Job was a prototype of an upright man and would prove Satanwrong. Without
hesitation God agreed and Satan commenced with the acquisition of Jobs life determined to hinder
Jobs faith. Satan has always had a hidden agenda sought to change the beliefs of man. Satan once

When Job curses the day that he was born his friend s reason for being takes a turn. They begin
to tell him how the innocent do not suffer but the wicked do. That Job must have sinned and this
is why God is doing this to him. I believe even though it was not stated in the story this is still the
work of Satan. Instead of physically attacking Job, and taking away possessions he is targeting
him mentally. After listening to his friends he challenges them to show him where he has sinned.
Job complains about his health and his life in a whole. While Job has not lost his faith he has lost
any hope pertaining to his life. He mocks his friends and reaches out to God to present his case.
Job maintains his integrity speaking on all the good he has done and evil he has steered clear

War Themes
John Marsden s novel Tomorrow When the War Began and the 2013 film directed by Brian
Percival The Book Thief shares a variety of similar themes that are constantly portrayed throughout
these texts. The 3 main themes that are shared between the novel and film were the theme of war,
friendship, and hope. War is a centered theme that causes characters to develop and mature while
the theme of friendship brought them together, strengthening their bonds and finally, the theme of
hope represented the optimistic ideas of the characters, through literary techniques in the novel and
cinematic effects in the film, the texts successfully exhibited the protagonists overcoming their
ordeals during horrific circumstances. The theme of war is a significant part of both the novel
Tomorrow When the War Began and the film The Book Thief . Although these texts are different
in many ways, they both focus on the similar theme of war, this is shown throughout the course of
the novel and the film. In John Marsden s novel Tomorrow When the War Began , 7 teenagers are
faced with the harsh reality of war when they return home from their camping trip. An unknown
country invades Australia declaring war, but they try to avoid casualty by holding the town
council hostage. The soldiers in the book referred to the war as a clean invasion and they proved
that it was a clean invasion by treating people well, for example, patients in the hospital were
looked after even though they were Australians.

Many community church organizations are constantly looking for ways to help improve the life of
individuals living in the area. Adequate transportation has found to be a great concern for senior

Geoffrey Chaucer s The Merchant s Tale
Geoffrey Chaucer s the Merchant s Tale tells the tale of a husband, a wife, and sexual deceit. A
narrative nearly identical to that in Chaucer s work can be found in the Bible. In the Tale, the
Merchant depicts the sexual interactions of men and women, whether between husband and wife
(i.e. Januarie and May) or adulterers (i.e. May and Damyan). Similarly, Genesis 2 and 3 of the
Bible focus on sexual interactions between husband and wife (i.e.. Adam and Eve) and adulterers
(i.e. Eve and the Serpent/tree of knowledge). These similarities are identified through the plot itself;
the characters names and actions; and various key words along with their respective connotations
and etymological backgrounds. These similarities are present... Show more content on

The origin of Eve s name simply comes from living one but corresponds to the connotation of
May s name. Like the month of May, May represents youthfulness and fertility providing a stark
contrast to her husband. Chaucer s choice for Damyan s name also holds a place in the
parallelism between the Merchant s Tale and Genesis. Damyan has held connotations in the
English language relating it to evil or demonic, lending it to comparison to the Serpent s
symbolism for the Devil. The overarching parallels between Januarie/Adam, May/Eve, and
Damyan/the Serpent are clearest in lines 2346 through 2367, in which May actually commits
adultery with Damyan. This same scene is reflected in Genesis, with the presentation of the tree
and the forbidden fruit (Genesis 2:16 17) and the Serpent s beguiling of Eve (Genesis 3:1 6).
More specifically, throughout the entire Tale but playing the most important role within lines
2346 2367, Chaucer uses key words to parallel the Bible as evident in his description of the garden.
The biblical allegation of the garden is derived from Genesis in which the Garden of Eden, an
earthly paradise, is presented as a haven for Adam and Eve where the original sin, a sexual sin, is
committed. The concept of the garden in the Merchant s Tale representing paradise can be traced
back to the Merchant s original description of marriage (and ultimately sex) as a paradys
(Merchant s Tale, 1265).

Reflection On How I Learn English
This semester, you helped me learn that English isn t just about writing, that it is about learning,
too. You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can
cause damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much
added sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the
WODs. They helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An
assignment we did this yearwas shakespearience. If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I
probably would never have read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was
shakespearience because you never genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to
read the books, but we never went over them in class. What if we had questions about the book?
You never took the time to check up on us to see how we were doing. The best and most helpful
assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala. It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the
class) understand what is happening to girls and women in third world countries. I understand
now the importance of education. People all around fight for what we have so easily. We take
for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to others. So this lesson
about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we have. Nothing
that you taught us needs to be revisited. I understand mostly everything that has been learned this
semester, it just took me a lot of time to process it. My class last year, mostly did just personal
narratives or book reports. I just wasn t expecting you to be so hard on us, especially the first
semester. Although, you pushed my class and me to new limits, and I hope to do better the next
part of this school year.
As my teacher, I honestly think of you are a great teacher yet sometimes, you seem like you don
t care about us. For example, there was this one time in class when we were taking an assessment
and when I asked you for help, you just ignored me and looked away. Sometimes I wish you
would try to help us more on things we are struggling with instead of just not caring at all. Your
strengths are that you are very

Essay on The Presence of an Iceberg in A Clean,...
Presence of an iceberg in A clean, well lighted place
From the short story, A clean, well lighted place , Hemingway has comprehensively used his
theory of omission. The first part where this theory is used is in the definition of the characters
present in the story. The old man, who is the first character, is brought out with lots of omissions
regarding his details (Hemingway 1). The old man is only described as old and deaf. In addition, it
is stated that he enjoyed coming out at night when it was quieter and could drink until the waiters
became restless and ordered him out.
By looking at the old man, the reader can easily come up with many conclusions and symbolic
interpretations. Firstly, the old age is a symbolic representation of ... Show more content on

The old man was therefore psychologically affected by the loneliness at home. Despite the wealth
that is later highlighted by the waiters in their conversations, the old man cannot seem to find
solace and hence the reason for frequent visit to the cafГ©. His quest is peace and company. This
therefore explains why the writer takes the old man to a cafГ©, rather than to a bar.
While alcohol is sold in all these places, the writer brings the old man to a cafГ©, due to its
cleanliness, good arrangement and light. This illustrates that the old man opts for the cafГ© due to
its calm nature, compared to the bars, which are noisy, violent, and disorderly (Morris and Owens
4). The ruthlessness associated with the bars makes it an unsuitable place for the old man and he
thus opts to drink in the cafГ©.
By omitting his hearing capability, the writer develops the concept of loneliness further. The old
man cannot even get to hear from the community. He was therefore alienated from many realities
and the world was far away from him. Through this, the writer clearly brings about the concept of
despair. The perceived lack of an influence to commit suicide was intentionally omitted by the
writer in order to give the reader a broader approach to the problem. If the writer had stated the
reason that prompted the old man to attempt suicide, the reader could not have developed a broader
understanding of the

My Time In High School
Throughout my time growing up I have had a lot of people tell me that high school will be the
time of your life. In many ways it is. High school for me would be described as fun, thrilling,
exciting, hard working, and some very exhausting years of my life. My years at Millry High
School have not been too long compared to others, however my memories are of great lengths.
During my time as a high schoolstudent, I have tried to become a fairly active student. Participating
in Bible club, drama club, yearbook, running for student council, homecoming court, being
nominated best personality, and Distinguished Young Women.
My time in high school have been some of the greatest times I have had thus far, with as little
bumps in the road as possible. Now don t get me wrong, I had a lot to learn during my time as a
high school student. During these years I have learned how to be myself, to work my tail off,
and that nothing is going to be handed to you. One of my biggest regrets I encountered during
my time as a high school student was not trying my hardest. I never really had to try much in
elementary and middle school. It just sort of came to me. When I entered high school, I thought
it would be the same. I was very wrong. I ended up going to summer school the summer of my
ninth grade year for my grades. I found it so embarrassing when everyone would ask if I could
hang out and I would have to say ВЁI can t I have summer schoolВЁ. Definitely not one of my
proudest moments there.

Healthy Well Rounded Child Research Paper
Raising a Healthy, Well Rounded, and Confident Child

Exposing the child to different activities, cultures and ways of life helps them better understand
the world around them. Once they become old enough to experience the real world, they will
encounter several opinions from diverse groups of people. To not expose all aspects of life to
them as a child, makes it that much harder for them to adapt once they are older. For a child to
be well rounded they need to understand ideas and thoughts from multiple point of views. One
perfect example of sheltering children is my aunt and uncle s Family. They believe in not letting
their kids out except for school or school related activities. They only use the computer for school

How Romanticism Has Diminish Throughout Popularity
My part starts by talking about how romanticism had diminish in popularity. The book talks about
how drama was in a period of conflict, in which serious romantics wanted Art to target a sensitive
audience making it more limited. In contrast, extremist wanted to created closet drama which
means that they wanted plays to be read instead of been acted. By 1840s romanticismwas no longer
a movement and even though it had effectively ended with neoclassicism it did not changed theatre
completely. Romanticism established the idea of an artist as someone who was exceptional,
sentimental, with great abilities, and inspired. It also established Art as something important just
like a religion. In my opinion, we still share those ideas especially... Show more content on

I think that his ideas were fascinating because he tried to go away from the standard idea of
assigning places according to the person s importance in society but rather made the actors the
main focus for everyone. I think of this as a way to make the audience all the same making the
actors the only celebrities in the room. Also the idea that everyone had the same opportunity to the
same view went away By the nineteenth century melodramas and sentimental comedies were
popular in commercial theater. However, reformers saw these plays as a waste of resources
because they wanted plays to portray stories that could be considered more seriously by the
audience. The need for more seriousness in plays eventually lead to the creation of realism. As
mentioned by Boime, realism was committed to reproducing aspects of the unstable world of
sensory perception (77). The idea of realism was to create plays that portrayed everyday life and
events. As time changed and more problems in society emerge, such as industrialization and
inequality, plays also transformed. For instance, radical realists wanted plays to portray this
events as a way to not only represent current situations but also as a way to promote a change for
these situations. In other words, the main idea of realism was to question and challenge the current
state of society. We have to think that during this period of time science was evolving and society
was more open to acknowledge it. The

Consciousness In The German Ideology
Before one is able to consider this quote, the concept of materialism and consciousness must be
dissected. According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by
material activities, but also the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the
powers of production. Consciousness plays a large role in his definition of materialism, because
they are inherently connected. For example, The production of ideas, of conceptions, of
consciousness is directly interwoven with the material activity and the material relationships of
men; it is the language of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic
process; in other words, economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This
differs greatly from Hegel s idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes
distinguishing between thesis and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx
utilizes the dialectic to analyze materialism and consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes
even further than Hegel and uses this dialectic thinking to challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is
important to understand the concept that the process of thinking is actually a reflection of the
external world through consciousness, because then one can connect the idea that it is more of a
relationship than an externalized object. Marx explains this notion when he states, In the social
production of their existence, men

Problem Statement Quantitative Study Jung (2007) found that general education teacher s attitudes

The problem is the need for technological resources that promote parental involvement for
improving the educational development of special education students. The specific problem is
identifying the technology that most effectively increases parental involvement in special
education. This study will use a qualitative method and case study similar to Hartas (2008) study of
the effects of parental involvement on students with Autism. Parents will participate in semi
structured interviews, questionnaires, and classroom observations to determine what motivates
them to be involved. The results should interest special education teachers who require assistance
from parents in order for students to attend school daily, participate in instruction, and continue to
exhibit progression in all areas of development. Revised Purpose Statement Qualitative Study The
purpose of this qualitative case study is to identify the technological resources that are most
effective in encouraging parents of special education students to be involved in the student s
education. The data collection design will include questionnaires, observations, schedule
restructuring, community involvement, and semi structured interviews to identify the areas of
improvement. The population will be composed of parents who have elementary aged special needs

A Brief Note On The United Arab Emirates
Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates
Katie Williams
Alaska Career College
Abstract
The United Arab Emirates is a Middle Eastern country full of history and culture that is
modernizing and revamping its healthcare system to better serve the needs of the people.
Depending on where one plans to visit, it is important to observe the cultural and social norms of
the population.
Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates is a Middle Eastern country that is located along the Persian (Arabian
Gulf). With Oman to the East and Saudi Arabia to the South, this country spans 32,278 square
miles and is home to an estimated 8,264,070 people. (Map XL, Inc. US Office, 2016).
English is widely spoken, especially among the educated or during business transactions although
Arabic is the official language of the country. Islam is the official religion. The largest city is the
city of Dubai, and the Capitol of the country is Abu Dhabi.
Established in December of 1971, the country is a Federation of seven Emirates (Abu Dhabi,
Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Pas al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al Quwain). Although each Emirate is
governed by an absolute monarch, together they jointly form the Federal Supreme Council, which
is the highest governing authority in the UAE. This Council is responsible for passing and
enforcing federal laws, as well as approving the appointment of the Prime Minister. (Ministry of
Cabinet Affairs the Future, 2016). One monarch is selected as President

Applying the Social Cognitive Theory of Albert Bandura
Annie, a fifth grade student in Mr. Keller s class, is being quiet and sullen for the fifth day in a

student. Give me P.E. or art over this stuff any day! If we apply Albert Banduras social cognitive
theory in her comment I just can t do this writing stuff how does Bandura s theory help us to
understand Annie? According, the Social Cognitive Theory of Albert Bandura which combines
both behavioral and cognitive philosophies to form his theory of modeling, or observational learning

404) and these predictions are affected by self efficacy, a concept that he describes as our beliefs
about our personal competence or effectiveness... which means it varies, depending on the
subject or task (p. 405). In Annie s case, we can determinate that she does not have a high
confidence in herself when it comes to writing skills or other school subjects. Her attitude can
be based on previous negative experiences or the low self efficacy in a specific task, in her
situation is writing. However, she does state that she is more confident academically when the
subjects are PE or art. Annie s motivation in other areas may be high because she has better
experiences and outcomes; therefore, since she is able to can set up higher goals in these
subjects, she is less afraid of failure. If Annie gets helpo gain positive experiences in writing may
also increase her self efficacy in writing and other areas.
Consequently, how social cognitive theory can help Annie become more confident and successful
in her writing skills? Annie may think that she is not confident or competent enough at school;
according to the social cognitive theory, there is evidence that a higher sense of self efficacy
supports motivation, even when the efficacy is an overestimation (Woolfolk, 2013, p. 408).
Therefore, if we increase Annie s self efficacy with the following: (a) adopt short term goals so it is

Before we can even start a restaurant at all, we have to go for analyzation of the demographic

Asia, immigrant and citizens. The percentage of those in the neighborhood between the ages of
25 64 is 64.1%, followed by young youth with 19.3%, followed by seniors with 10.5 %, leaving
a percentage of 6.1% to children. This is good for us because we know that 97% of the area is a
rental apartment and with fewer children in the area, most family will not worry too much about

Short answers
Q. 1. Challenge DeVito, O Rourke and O Neill s (2000) definition of culture using Richards
(1999) or Anae (1997). How do DeVito et al look at membership within a cultureand how does
Richards see it differently?
DeVito, O Rourke and O Neill s (2000, p.99) definition of culture is very limited when describing
modern cultures of globalised human society. Perhaps where people are isolated to villages, towns
or countries with little communication with the outside world, the definition would be completely
workable. But now, due to access of information, global trade, travel and immigration etc the world

Essay
Social amp; Cultural reality theory in action
Melissa Peters
Bachelor of Arts Student, Open Polytechnic
Introduction
How is it we know when to laugh, cry or shout? Or when it would be rude or inappropriate to do
so? Why is it we value integrity, honesty, respect...or not? And where do our religious or spiritual
beliefs and practices come from?
This essay looks at theories of social construction and their part in the development of cultural and
societal realities. We look at constructivism as a means of learning social norms, values, beliefs etc
using examples from the production Tapu (Smith and Haami, 2000). In particular we ll address the
theories of emotional construction and rule governing.
So what is social construction?
Social construction is the idea that our understanding of reality derives from interaction with others.
It refers to the way we create meaning and understanding to build collectively held beliefs. These
beliefs are called social constructions or constructs .
In the 1967 book, The Social Construction of Reality, Berger and Luckmann argue that all
knowledge, including the most basic, taken for granted common sense knowledge of everyday
reality, is derived from and maintained by social interactions. (Wikipedia, 2012).
Culture is a vital aspect of

How Did Robert Oppenheimer Change The World
J. Robert Oppenheimer, a jewish scientist that created the nuclear bomb, was seen as both a positive
and negative influence on the world. Oppenheimer helped change the world during the Manhatten
Project and after. Being the Father of the Atomic Bomb Oppenheimer gained many enemies. People
did not like that he opposed the hydrogen bomb and gained cultural power. J. Robert Oppenheimer
may have had both positive and negative influences on the world.
The Manhattan Project was a project set up by the government to create a new weapon during. At
the time it was very secret as Franklin Roosevelt had previously said in a letter., I have recently

He did not invent the atomic bomb but helped in making it reality. After being a physicist his whole
life he was chosen to help create a weapon. The government picked him because of his many
scientific achievements. (Institute of Advancements). He worked with Albert Einstein and some
other scientist to figure out how to create the bomb. He was the guide to the people and helped
them assemble the bomb.
J. Robert Oppenheimer s bomb was something that nobody had ever built before. It was an atomic
bomb. Unlike the hydrogen bomb they used a uranium atom to make an explosion. It was more
powerful than the hydrogen bomb and was able to be mass produced. They had accomplished their
goal to create a weapon.
At the end of the Manhattan Project the U.S. dropped a bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. After
Oppenheimer saw what damage the bomb could do he argued that they should not produce it. The
bomb killed and destroyed more than anyone expected. The government did not stop they continued
to use the bombs to

order for Risperdal Tablet to work correctly, the tablet should be taken as prescribed by the
doctor which is usually on a daily basis. The injectable form which is known as Risperdal Consta
is often given every 2 week in the upper arm or buttocks. Risperidone Tablets and solutions are
taken 1 to 2 times a day. Food does not affect the absorption rate of the effectiveness of the
medication thus, it can be taken with or without food. The dose can be taken with or without
food. When an individual begins taking this medication, they often start at a low dose and
slowly increase over a couple of weeks if needed. The oral dose usually ranges 1mg to 6mg. The
injectable dose can range from 12.5mg to 50mg. With the orally disintegrating tablets, the tablet
will dissolve within a few seconds. When taking Risperdal, alcohol and illicit drug use should be
avoided. The reason for this is because it can decrease the effects of the medication and increase
adverse effects such as sedation.

How To Hack A Doll
This article is alarming and frightening to read about. Something as seemingly innocuous as a
doll was capable of being manipulated and hacked to gather sensitive, personal information. I
think the scariest part is that we don t know who hacked the dolls and if they did, what their
intentions were for using their dolls, specifically, as a medium. If it wasn t for this article, I would
have never imagined that a hackerwould hack a doll because it isn t commonly heard of. Usually,
in the news, I hear about cell phones, webcams, laptops, and those sort of technological devices
being hacked. Although I was surprised to read this, I feel as if I shouldn t be because the reality
is that anything can be the object of exploitation and manipulation as long as there is intent behind
it. In fact, this actually reminds me of an article that I read a while back about a baby monitor
being hacked. In a similar fashion, the hacker interacted with the child in a disturbing way.
When I read this article, my first initial thought was that the Cayla dolls were being used as a tool
or decoy so that the hackers could directly come in contact with the children. I assume the hackers
that actually interacted with the children had motives associated with them because I can t see ...

So, when the hacker talks to them through the doll, it causes them to associate the hacker with
those positive emotions, which essentially creates a sense of familiarity. Thus, when the child and
hacker do meet and make first direct contact, a relationship is already fostered. Also, since dolls
serve as a friend and companion, children usually share intimate thoughts, feelings, and etc. with
them. This allows the hacker to exploit and take advantage of the child s vulnerabilities either
through blackmail or other nefarious means. This was my theory behind it, but admittedly, that
sounds quite far fetched looking

DAP results from the process of making decisions about the well being and education of children
based on at least three important kind of information or knowledge.
What is known about how children develop and learn, including information about ages and stages
and what the appropriate experiences, materials, activities and interactions for each child.
What is known about the strengths, interests, and needs of each individual child in the group.

skills. Waldorf teachers believe in the creative expression and relationship with nature by the

Analysis Of The Poem The Raven
The Raven versus Ode to a Nightingale The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is a story of a young adult
who has lost the woman he was in love with and is struggling cope. The story teller compulsorily
builds self destructive understanding of his mourning in a raven s constant Nevermore reminder to
him, until he eventually gives up about being reconnected with Lenore in the new world. On the
other hand, John Keats Ode to a Nightingaleis another interesting poem set in London, which tells
the story of a nightingale that undergoes pain and suffering caused by a loss of human life but
remains alive. Like in the Raventhe latter the poem demonstrates clearly that pleasure is temporary
and that human beings are mortal (Fogle 81). In the literary piece, Keats envisages the
shortcomings of the physical environment and considers his own life gone when the nightingale
song sets in. As such, the poet contrasts between the eternal nightingale and temporal life of human
beings in an immensely imaginative way that integrates the primary factors affecting life including
weather and natural aesthetics such as flower. Weather rejuvenates the power of the nightingales as
evidenced in their covering of the heath. Like the Raven, however, Ode to a nightingale shares the
theme of human mortality, spirituality and kindness, and isolation among the bereaved.
Form
Poe s The Raven is made up of eighteen six line verses with seamlessly emphatic rhythm and
rhymes. Using I narration to

Persuasive Essay On Mental Health
It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock
fired upon a concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further
to 2011, Jared Lee Loughner killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle
Gifford (Moon 209). As more and more mass shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such
tragedies could be avoided by involuntarily committing the perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary
commitment, also known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can order the mentally ill
to get treatment against their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and
Salekin 325). By implementing a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the
only criteria, the U.S. can provide equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless
off the streets, and prevent violent situations.
Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking
gibberish or a lady is pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man
commonly overlooked by the law and passerby has the potential to be just like the average
middle class person, working a steady job, having a family, and owning a home of his own but is
unfortunately held back by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment due to
having no family, money, and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less
restrictive involuntary commitment laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility
at no cost, help them get better, and start their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary
commitment laws would provide housing and proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren
t able to get the help they need on their own. By eliminating the worry of finding housing, a
patient can focus more on getting better mentally and getting off the streets for good. Supporters
of the housing first method agree that once homeless people have a safe, stable place to live, it is
easier to get well and look for work ( Homelessness ). Involuntary commitment of the patient would
allow a bed in a mental health facility, routine care, and a healthy environment

Transformative Leadership In Social Work
Transformative leadership is a leadership style that aids employees to make positive changes
within the organization while also guiding them to become successful future leaders. Part of
being a successful leader in the human services field means helping their social service workers
recognize that they are called upon to display specific characteristics that help guide and shape the
lives of the clients they serve. In order to assist clients successfully, social service workers must
learn and understand diversity and what it means to be self aware. In addition, social workers must

perception affects other members of their staff. The text... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

His hygiene issues prevented clients in the computer program from wanting to be tutored by

  • 2. We All Fall Down Critical Analysis In Robert Cormier s novel, We All Fall Down, is a young adult thriller that explores the evil side of humanity through a number of corrupt characters. Cormier, to a large extent, accurately depicts manipulative and dishonest behaviour whilst also showing the evil lurking within the prominent characters of Harry Flowers, Buddy Walker and Mickey Stallings who showcase the dark side of humanity. Cormier explores this through Harry Flower s manipulative actions that result in the suffering of others. Additionally, the constant dishonest behaviour is shown predominantly through the main protagonist of Buddy Walker, who deceives the one he loves. Cormier continues to depict the evillurking in society through the theme of appearance versus reality through the seemingly harmless character of Mickey Stallings. Cormier successfully depicts manipulative and dishonest behaviour as well as showing the evil lurking in the dark side of humanity. In the novel, We All Fall Down, Cormier is able to show the repercussions of manipulative behaviour, through the character of Harry Flowers. Harry is able to manipulate Buddy s thoughts and actions due to his vulnerability. Harry fools Buddy into believing that his actions on the night of the trashing were deceiving, this can be shown with Harry trying to convince Buddy of this, Maybe I was trying to grab her and save her from falling, Harry said, his voice suddenly mild and reasonable. Maybe it only looked like I pushed her. What do they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Descriptive Essay On Funerals Helena Iero Loving daughter and sister 1977 2004 27 yrs old So long and goodnight. I heard Gerard sing loud and proud. It was my funeral and I m laying with my eyes closed, not able to see my best friends. I could feel Gerard s tears without even looking at him. Funerals are sad but I could never deal with having my best friend like this. The only thing I never got about funerals is why they dress you up to be pretty. I mean, you re dead for Pete s sake. Nobody in heaven or hell is going to judge you on what you re wearing, well I hope not. The dress I wore was pretty though. It had red and black lacing on it. I don t know who picked it out but this dress was from the party that I first met the boys at and that was pretty fun. 11 yrs earlier It was a very sunny October morning, but it wasn t any morning, it was Halloween morning. It was also graduation morning. Why on Halloween? Well, I don t know. Anyways, I put on a white dress that reached my knees and put on black flats. I braided my dark hair and threw on a necklace. The necklace was one my mother gave me when I was little before she passed. I looked in the mirror and I gripped the charm on the necklace. My brother then walked into the room and placed a calming hand on my shoulder. I looked at him through the mirror and smiled. Mother and father would be proud if they were here, My brother said. I sighed. Yeah, but I m glad I m getting taken care of by my big brother, I turned around and gave my brother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cartesian Dualism Essay Part 1: An Abbreviated Intellectual History of Thinking About the Mind In social cognition, theory of mind refers to a person s ability to make causal attributions about other people s mental states and actions. Though our understanding of the mind has increased in sophistication with advances in science, the task of reasoning about others in prosaic settings can probably be said to be the earliest form of cognitive science. Its axioms and fundamental philosophy have been passed down through the generations in the form of what we might today call folk psychology . Though folk psychology has many meanings in the literature, here it is used to refer to the attribution of mental phenomena like beliefs, desires, love, hate, etc. to others in an attempt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many simply abandoned the dualist framework, and developed schools of thought that were either purely idealistic or materialistic. The cartesian separation of mind and body was not only an ontological debate about what existed in the world, but also one deeply tied to the dialectic between secular/scientific thought and moral/religious ones. For the church, materialism unsettled their traditional claim over knowledge about the world. As science offered ever more powerful explanatory systems for the natural world, cartesian dualism offered a way for theologians to assert authority over matters of the mind, and by extension, matters of the self and soul. In the face of biological decline and death, Descartes s mind body separation also offered a ontological mechanism by which the human spirit could live on.9 However, by the 19th century, materialism had thoroughly displaced dualism and idealism in examinations of the mind. In a scientific culture that valued reproducibility and objectivity, a reliance on subjective experience proved problematic. Subjectivity increasingly 8Searle, John R. • 7. Angela Merkel Research Paper Merkel was born in Hamburg, Germany to a Lutheran pastor father and a Latin and English teacher mother. After her birth, her family moved to communist East Germany, then known as the German Democratic Republic. In the same year Merkel s family moved east, 20,000 other Germans fled west. It was her time under a communist regime where, she gathered the qualities cultivated as a necessity in the East patience, blandness, intellectual rigor and an inconspicuous but ferocious drive and changed not only her life but the course of history (Vick). Merkel became involved in politics as a youth, joining Germany s Young Pioneers and Free German Youth in the 1960s. The group was technically voluntary but, for children in the east, it was practically necessary if you wanted to be accepted into any university. • 8. Themes In A Rose For Emily In the short story A Rose for Emily , William Faulkner writes about a woman s life through the eyes of Southern townspeople. The main character, Emily Grierson, struggles with her life because of the townspeople s perspective of her actions. Because of the many references that are made throughout the story, the setting is very recognizable and easy to identify. Although the southern references are very distinct, many of these southern values, norms, and perspectives vary and change throughout the years. Throughout the story, Faulkner describes the story s setting through historical, social, and cultural references towards certain eras. In the beginning of the story, the readers are told that Emily lived in a big, squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies (998). The style of Emily s house portrays an old plantation house. These types of houses were mainly used during Civil War because of the popularity of slavery in the South. Because the story is set in the South, much of the South s past during the Civil War is mentioned. The narrator explains Colonel Sartoris made a decree that stated, no Negro woman should appear on the streets without an apron (998). During the Civil War and post Civil War eras, white people had control over the actions of African Americans. Because of what is known about the South during the Civil War, Colonel Sartoris s ... This idea then ties into Montaigne s Of Cannibals , an essay that questions the idea that society dictates if someone is different, you are therefore superior. Many and the 19th century exposed groups of savage people s simplistic lifestyle. The character of Caliban especially seems to create contrasting views on people in their natural state. Although Shakespeare s The Tempestand Of Cannibals sharply contrast, and Caliban often disproves Montaigne theories, they also draw so similarities, linking both texts through the character Caliban. Although Caliban s character is often shown in a negative way, he also had several speeches that give the audience an idea of his perception and humanity, which isn t as savage as first perceived. He represents a stereotype and image many had of these savages in faraway lands, influence by books or others stories. Both texts beg the question of what has changed, what we have learned, and what we perceive as savagery; is it a simplistic lifestyle, or the colonising of other land though force and power. • 10. Barriers In Chinese Cinderella Every adolescent has struggles and problems that need to be resolved throughout their life, however, one constant is that their parents are always there for them. Whether they fix the problem themselves, or help their child through it, the child almost always receives the help they require. A quote from Mending Wall by Robert Frost helps describe what it is like when the parents are not there for the child. Something there is that doesn t love a wall, that sends the frozen ground swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two can pass abreast (1). In this instance, the child is the wall, and the parent is the person that does not love it. Slowly, the child will break apart, and eventually collapse without the affection and support they need. In Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, this is one of the few unfortunate exceptions where the child doesn t acquire assistance from any parent. Adeline had many occurrences within her community that changed her mentality, one being that her self esteem declined, and made her feel like she needs to prove herself worthy, no matter the circumstance. However, taking a different perspective, a person might notice that the two hiss, creep, and have wavering tongues. Virgil makes use of this comparison extensively throughout Book Two of The Aeneid. The brutality of the attackers, their deception, and the fires which complete their task are repeatedly linked to the action of the snake. The snake attacks from hiding, as did the Greeks from the womb of the Trojan horse. • 15. Coastal Erosion Of Coastal Vegetation Depending On Their... The comprehension of the distribution of coastal vegetation depending on their salinity tolerance is very significant to the understanding of coastal ecological modeling. Coastal ecological modeling depends largely on the interplay of salinity and the formation, productivity and perishability of coastal plants to infer or predict any coastal change. Plants that sustain in a highly saline environment are termed as halophytes, including mangroves, which tolerate salinitybut perhaps do not require salt to perform their physiological activities. Mangroves are an important type of marine halophytes, which are influenced by salinity throughout their lives but manage to thrive in spite of difficulties. There are two types of halophytes: facultative halophytes and obligate halophytes. Facultative halophytes can sustain in fresh water but grow rapidly with the increase in salinity up to an optimum level. On the other hand, obligate halophytecannot stand fresh water and have optimal growth in similar or more than the salinity range of facultative halophytes. The general consensus among scientists on mangrovecategorization is that mangroves are facultative halophytes, as the distinction depends on the ability of mangroves to survive in fresh water. In the review article On the halophytic nature of mangroves , Krauss and Ball (2013) contended that mangroves do not need salt for survival and hence are truly facultative halophytes. Elements such as darkness, light, fate, patriarchy, and justice are intertwined to make up Aeschylus tragic tale, however all of these elements are directed by one central force: balance. The word balance itself suggests a state of equilibrium or a stable environment. Balance is often looked at as a scale; if one side of the scale is overpowering the other, then it creates a state of disorder, irregularity, and even chaos. Aeschylus meddles with the scales of balance but, in the end, reinforces the equipoise of power. I would argue that, not only does The Oresteiainclude balance as a critical underlying theme and is strategically used in determining the outcome of the play, but that the role of Athena is vital in creating this balance. In this play, there are many cases in which the word balance can be substituted for the word justice. The final play, The Eumenides, is significantly based on the idea of balance. Aeschylus puts it as justice waits and turns the scales (line 61), meaning that justice is purposeful, and is one of the components that forces the balance within the play. By analyzing the reference to the tipping of the scales, we can assume a reversal of fortune and what is fated to happen. With the trial being the main plotline of the last play, it reveals the scales tipping towards justice and leaves us with a sense of harmony. The two sides of justice are seen ... As her mom twirls around in front of a mirror again, the girl steps onto the pile of clothes on the floor and whispers, Mom, can we go now? The next scene takes place in front of a public restroom, where the girl holds her mom s hands and smiles. Not far away from the girl, a little boy holding a Pull up diaper hurriedly runs into the men s bathroom by himself. This seemingly harmless commercial can actually be very misleading to young children. The mom is not only playing the traditional role of a housewife, but also suggesting to her daughter that appearance is very important to women because they have to attract men with their charming looks. Just as O Connor states, Little girls must be prepared for a life of buying clothes and cosmetics and all those other wonderful things that will make them irresistibly alluring objects. In addition to the emphasis on materialism and a need for the perfect body image, it also seems that girls are always associated with tender loving dolls such as the teddy bear, and toy cars and video games are certainly out of the picture. An Examination of the Casual Relationships between Tattoos and Life Course Offending among males from the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development (Jennings, Hahn, Farrington 2014) and Nonmainstream Body Modification: Genital Piercing, Branding, Burning, and Cutting (Myers 1992). Jennings, Hahn, and Farrington s article investigates the correlation between tattoos and deviant behavior. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Included in the study were males, females, homosexuals, heterosexuals, and bisexuals. Myers spent a vast amount of time exploring various workshops and tattoo/piercing studios observing, interviewing, and lecturing individuals on his current study. An example of this is when Myers attended the Living in Leather Convention as he stated I was able to expand my involvement by showing my body modification slides to several people, attending parties, and helping out at the host organization s hospitality suite (1992:176). Though both studies rely heavily on body modification, they differ in a couple of ways. While the first study was considered a longitudinal study, the second one was considered a quasi experimental study. The first study was done in a period of 53 years while the second study was done in a period of 2 years. Another difference is that the first study relied on a different type of sampling than the second. The first one involved quota sampling because the researchers knew exactly who they wanted to choose for participants in their study. The second study involved both random and accidental sampling for data observation and collection. I believe that Jennings, Hahn, and Farrington s (2014) study was less effective than Myer s study. The 3 main themes that are shared between the novel and film were the theme of war, friendship, and hope. War is a centered theme that causes characters to develop and mature while the theme of friendship brought them together, strengthening their bonds and finally, the theme of hope represented the optimistic ideas of the characters, through literary techniques in the novel and cinematic effects in the film, the texts successfully exhibited the protagonists overcoming their ordeals during horrific circumstances. The theme of war is a significant part of both the novel Tomorrow When the War Began and the film The Book Thief . A narrative nearly identical to that in Chaucer s work can be found in the Bible. In the Tale, the Merchant depicts the sexual interactions of men and women, whether between husband and wife (i.e. Januarie and May) or adulterers (i.e. May and Damyan). Similarly, Genesis 2 and 3 of the Bible focus on sexual interactions between husband and wife (i.e.. Adam and Eve) and adulterers (i.e. Eve and the Serpent/tree of knowledge). These similarities are identified through the plot itself; the characters names and actions; and various key words along with their respective connotations and etymological backgrounds. These similarities are present... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The origin of Eve s name simply comes from living one but corresponds to the connotation of May s name. Like the month of May, May represents youthfulness and fertility providing a stark contrast to her husband. Chaucer s choice for Damyan s name also holds a place in the parallelism between the Merchant s Tale and Genesis. Damyan has held connotations in the English language relating it to evil or demonic, lending it to comparison to the Serpent s symbolism for the Devil. The overarching parallels between Januarie/Adam, May/Eve, and Damyan/the Serpent are clearest in lines 2346 through 2367, in which May actually commits adultery with Damyan. This same scene is reflected in Genesis, with the presentation of the tree and the forbidden fruit (Genesis 2:16 17) and the Serpent s beguiling of Eve (Genesis 3:1 6). More specifically, throughout the entire Tale but playing the most important role within lines 2346 2367, Chaucer uses key words to parallel the Bible as evident in his description of the garden. The biblical allegation of the garden is derived from Genesis in which the Garden of Eden, an earthly paradise, is presented as a haven for Adam and Eve where the original sin, a sexual sin, is committed. The concept of the garden in the Merchant s Tale representing paradise can be traced back to the Merchant s original description of marriage (and ultimately sex) as a paradys (Merchant s Tale, 1265). ... You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can cause damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much added sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the WODs. They helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An assignment we did this yearwas shakespearience. If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I probably would never have read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was shakespearience because you never genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to read the books, but we never went over them in class. What if we had questions about the book? You never took the time to check up on us to see how we were doing. The best and most helpful assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala. It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the class) understand what is happening to girls and women in third world countries. I understand now the importance of education. People all around fight for what we have so easily. We take for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to others. So this lesson about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we have. Nothing that you taught us needs to be revisited. Presence of an iceberg in A clean, well lighted place From the short story, A clean, well lighted place , Hemingway has comprehensively used his theory of omission. The first part where this theory is used is in the definition of the characters present in the story. The old man, who is the first character, is brought out with lots of omissions regarding his details (Hemingway 1). The old man is only described as old and deaf. Despite the wealth that is later highlighted by the waiters in their conversations, the old man cannot seem to find solace and hence the reason for frequent visit to the cafГ©. While alcohol is sold in all these places, the writer brings the old man to a cafГ©, due to its cleanliness, good arrangement and light. This illustrates that the old man opts for the cafГ© due to its calm nature, compared to the bars, which are noisy, violent, and disorderly (Morris and Owens 4). The ruthlessness associated with the bars makes it an unsuitable place for the old man and he thus opts to drink in the cafГ©. By omitting his hearing capability, the writer develops the concept of loneliness further. The old man cannot even get to hear from the community. He was therefore alienated from many realities and the world was far away from him. Through this, the writer clearly brings about the concept of despair. The perceived lack of an influence to commit suicide was intentionally omitted by the writer in order to give the reader a broader approach to the problem. If the writer had stated the reason that prompted the old man to attempt suicide, the reader could not have developed a broader understanding of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book talks about how drama was in a period of conflict, in which serious romantics wanted Art to target a sensitive audience making it more limited. In contrast, extremist wanted to created closet drama which means that they wanted plays to be read instead of been acted. By 1840s romanticismwas no longer a movement and even though it had effectively ended with neoclassicism it did not changed theatre completely. Romanticism established the idea of an artist as someone who was exceptional, sentimental, with great abilities, and inspired. It also established Art as something important just like a religion. I think of this as a way to make the audience all the same making the actors the only celebrities in the room. Also the idea that everyone had the same opportunity to the same view went away By the nineteenth century melodramas and sentimental comedies were popular in commercial theater. However, reformers saw these plays as a waste of resources because they wanted plays to portray stories that could be considered more seriously by the audience. The need for more seriousness in plays eventually lead to the creation of realism. As mentioned by Boime, realism was committed to reproducing aspects of the unstable world of sensory perception (77). The idea of realism was to create plays that portrayed everyday life and events. As time changed and more problems in society emerge, such as industrialization and inequality, plays also transformed. For instance, radical realists wanted plays to portray this events as a way to not only represent current situations but also as a way to promote a change for these situations. In other words, the main idea of realism was to question and challenge the current state of society. • 39. Consciousness In The German Ideology Before one is able to consider this quote, the concept of materialism and consciousness must be dissected. According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by material activities, but also the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the powers of production. Consciousness plays a large role in his definition of materialism, because they are inherently connected. For example, The production of ideas, of conceptions, of consciousness is directly interwoven with the material activity and the material relationships of men; it is the language of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic process; in other words, economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This differs greatly from Hegel s idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes distinguishing between thesis and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx utilizes the dialectic to analyze materialism and consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes even further than Hegel and uses this dialectic thinking to challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is important to understand the concept that the process of thinking is actually a reflection of the external world through consciousness, because then one can connect the idea that it is more of a relationship than an externalized object. Marx explains this notion when he states, In the social production of their existence, men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story teller compulsorily builds self destructive understanding of his mourning in a raven s constant Nevermore reminder to him, until he eventually gives up about being reconnected with Lenore in the new world. On the other hand, John Keats Ode to a Nightingaleis another interesting poem set in London, which tells the story of a nightingale that undergoes pain and suffering caused by a loss of human life but remains alive. Like in the Raventhe latter the poem demonstrates clearly that pleasure is temporary and that human beings are mortal (Fogle 81). In the literary piece, Keats envisages the shortcomings of the physical environment and considers his own life gone when the nightingale song sets in. As such, the poet contrasts between the eternal nightingale and temporal life of human beings in an immensely imaginative way that integrates the primary factors affecting life including weather and natural aesthetics such as flower. Weather rejuvenates the power of the nightingales as evidenced in their covering of the heath. Persuasive Essay On Mental Health It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock fired upon a concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further to 2011, Jared Lee Loughner killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford (Moon 209). As more and more mass shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such tragedies could be avoided by involuntarily committing the perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary commitment, also known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can order the mentally ill to get treatment against their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and Salekin 325). By implementing a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the only criteria, the U.S. can provide equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless off the streets, and prevent violent situations. Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking gibberish or a lady is pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man commonly overlooked by the law and passerby has the potential to be just like the average middle class person, working a steady job, having a family, and owning a home of his own but is unfortunately held back by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment due to having no family, money, and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility at no cost, help them get better, and start their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would provide housing and proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren t able to get the help they need on their own. By eliminating the worry of finding housing, a patient can focus more on getting better mentally and getting off the streets for good. Supporters of the housing first method agree that once homeless people have a safe, stable place to live, it is easier to get well and look for work ( Homelessness ).
