Amy Poehler Yes Please
It s called Yes Please because it is the constant struggle and often the right answer, (Poehler, xix).
Yes Please, by Amy Poehler, is a nonfiction book depicting Amy Poehler s life and her view on
how to do life. Yes Please was published by William Morrow Publishers in New York, NY in
2014. This book encompasses a wide range of topics from Poehler s career in comedy to how to
treat yourself right. Poehler makes many compelling statements, and tells rich stories about a
variety of things throughout her book. The first to stick out as important speaks on the tiny voice
in our heads. This voice she speaks of is ...a nicy whispery voice inside of us, but the bad ones are
usually at a lower register and come through a little clearer (Poehler,... Show more content on

This one is slightly harder to comprehend due to the indirectness surround it. This section is
more about doing than anything else. This can be seen when Amy is discussing her old group,
UCB, motto of don t think; she says Don t think. Get out of your head. Stop planning and just
go, (Poehler, 196). Farther into this section of Yes Please, Amy Poehler delves into careers verse
passion and how to treat each of them respectively if they aren t lucky enough to align. She truly
inspires while expressing how hard she had to work to get to the top. She made herself into who
she is now because she figured out who she wanted to be and she became it. A comedian is who
Amy Poehler is so that is who she became through her years of hard work waiting tables, and
making connections, and learning, and traveling to work and succeed. Poehler finds in all of this
that ambivalence is key to success, with this she states You have to care about your work but not
about the result. You have to care about how good you are and how good you feel, but not how
good people think you are, or how good people think you look, (Poehler, 223, 224). Throughout this
section Amy reinforces to be who you are through

Steam Engines Of The Industrial Revolution
It is common knowledge that the world as we know it today, was forged in the factories during the
era of the industrial revolution. The factories during this era, themselves, were powered by steam
engines. But where did the steam engine come from? Who invented this revolutionary invention?
How does the steam enginechug chug at 50+ miles per hour by merely using hot air, emitted by
boiling water. The answer to these questions: the steam engine was not invented nor developed
solely by one person, but by contributions of a multitude of people throughout this time in history.
A modern, simple steam engine, gets its energy from water boiled by ablazing wood or coal
underneath. When water becomes steam, its volume increases about 1,600 times and that
expansion is full of energy. The next step is to channel the steam with its energy, into the
cylinder and through an open valve, pushing the piston back into the cylinder. The first valve in
the cylinder closes as the piston is pushed back. Then, the second valve opens and steam escapes
through this valve. As a result, the event of the escaping steam creates a vacuum effect; causing
the piston to go back into its initial position; repeating the process. However, it is slightly
different for a train. With a train, the steam is released through the open hole(s) on the end of the
cylinder; releasing the steam to the open air. As for going back to the initial position, based on
Newton s First Law, inertia from the wheel will cause the

Photography became so powerful and is changing our view on what we see in the world around

Relationships Between A Journalist And The Relationship...
Journalist A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news or other current
information to the public. A journalist s work is called journalism. A journalist can work with
general issues or specialize in certain issues. However, most journalists tend to specialize, and by
cooperating with other journalists, produce journals that span many topics. For example, a sports
journalistcovers news within the world of sports, but this journalist may be a part of a newspaper
that covers many different topics and topics. Journalist and reporterare relateships. A reporter is a

This applies specially to war reporters, but their editorial offices at home often do not know how
to deal appropriately with the reporters they expose to danger. Hence, a systematic and sustainable
way of psychological support for traumatized journalists is strongly needed. However, only little
and fragmented support programs exist so far.
The Museum in Washington, D.C. is home to the Journalists Memorial, which lists the names of
over 2,100 journalists from around the world who were killed in the line of duty. The relationship
between a professional journalist and a source can be rather complex, a source can actually impact
the direction of the article written by the journalist. The article A Compromised Fourth Estate uses
Herbert Ganz metaphor to capture their relationship. He uses a dance metaphor The Tango to
illustrate the co operative nature of their interactions It takes two to tango . Herbert suggests that
the source often leads but journalists commonly object to this notion for 2 reasons: o It signals
source supremacy in news making. o It offends journalists professional culture, which emphasizes

Individualisation Of Responsibility For Health Essay
Introduction
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in complementary medicine, and indeed
alternative medicine (Lee Treweek 2002, Andrews 2004, Barry 2006). Moreover the number of
professionally trained therapist and practitioners has increased giving the patient/client a better
choice and at more competitive rates (Smallwood, 2005).
In this essay a critical assessment of the view that patients use of complementary and alternative
medicine, can be understood as part of the individualisation of responsibility for health will be
made and argued, that there are many aspects which influence the uptake of such therapies.
Responsibility for health has changed and this will be discussed by examples of sociological ...

They along with many other authors (Sointu 2006) suggests that negative experiences within
conventional medical practises can cause disenchantment and initiate people to seek out other
methods of elevating their health care problems. They also cite from sociological studies that
impersonal practises and the inability to cure chronic illness is part of the explanation for the move
to use CAM and alternative therapies (Telford, Kralik, Koch,2006). The results of the study
indicate that another reason for uptake is the fact that many believed in the trends of alternative
methods and choose to use a consumerist attitude (Sharma, 1992:80) to obtaining health care.
Consumer demand has brought about the changes associated with CAM and alternative therapies
use. The increase in several countries at grass root level as suggested by Barry (2005) has
influenced the integration of several therapies into biomedical healthcare systems. Consumerism
was one of the main ideas to influence factor incorporated in the changes to the NHS in the 1970 s.
Consumerism led systems meant a more flexible and responsive health service which encouraged
inclusion and self help. This shift in thinking was brought about partly by consumer demand
growing ever higher and medical sociologists debating changes to how society views illness and

Queenship In Robin s Essay On Hatshepsut
While Egyptian monuments did not record individualities of ancient Egyptian queens, in the article,
Robins discussed four queens in detail to speculate their characters and to demonstrate that kingship
was complemented by queenship. I will focus on her argument on Hatshepsut and respond to it.
In her research on Hatshepsut, Robins argued that Hatshepsut identified herself as a king during her
queenship to build up power. She stated that Hatshepsut used god s wife as her title, reminiscent of
Ahmose Nefertari. Further, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s kingship and argued that Hatshepsut
could become a king due to her strong personality and the coruler political system in ancient Egypt.
Moreover, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s daughter s important role. Then she discussed
Hatshepsut s unusualness and argued that she was a fusion of female and male. Finally, Robins
argued that Thutmose III was willing to rule with Hatshepsut and didn t hate her. ... Show more

First, Hatshepsut had a forceful character so that she knew how to choose male officials. The
fortunes of these people were tied to her, so they were willingly controlled by a female king.
Second, two kings could rule simultaneously according to the Egyptian political system, allowing
Hatshepsut to continue her kingship without expel Thutmose III. Last but not least, Hatshepsut was
not a pacifist, but rather, she had a fighting character. The first and second hypotheses were
persuasive, because they were based on solid supportive sources. The third argument, nevertheless,

Home To Harlem Analysis
In his analysis of Claude McKay s Home to Harlem, Shane Vogel refers to the text as a piece of
literature which is invested in affective mimesis. Essentially, the text is interested in the
reproduction of feelings and senses. The success of the text is based on the audience s ability to
feel what McKay wants them to feel. Of course, this method has its limits. How will a non black
audiencecapable of absorbing the material presented exactly as McKay means for it to be
interpreted? The answer to that question, of course, is that this text was not produced for
consumption by white audiences. This has been established by McKay s response to W.E.B. Du
Bois s criticisms of Home to Harlem, where it is staunchly established that McKay s portrayal of
African American individuals is for African Americans themselves the text portrays a series of
experiences which can only be understood by an in group, and that is that. Thus, McKay s
affective mimesis, or the elliptical sensorium of pleasure he produces, aims not to depict Harlem
as a spectacle, but as a place in which his audience already knows and already exists in.
Ultimately, the story of Home to Harlem exemplifies a never ending series of knowing and
unknowing one s surroundings and one s home. This is reinforced by the novel s looping plot
structure. McKay s formulation of the text does not give us an interpretation of diaspora, then it
aims to reproduce the feelingof diaspora in our hearts. First, let us consider how the structure of
the novel s plot reinforces the dual complexity of identity and remembrance. Home to Harlem is
a text defined by its astounding structural redundancy. Regardless of one s place in the novel, it
can be assumed that similar events are going to unfold there will be a mention of clubs or
alcohol, dancing will be involved, and Jake will surely sigh about how he has lost his sweet brown.
In instances where Jake and his companions aren t in Harlem, Jake laments for a return to what he
considers home. Thus, aside from certain moments, such as when Jake finally finds Felice, the
formulaic structure of Home to Harlem seems doomed to repeat itself for eternity. It is during this
aforementioned reunion when the audience begins to

Why College Education Is Important to Me
Why college education is important to me . By Janelle D. Crichlow EN110 Achieving Academic

young and the old, namely to develop or improve one s trade skills, to experience different
cultures and to increase one s educational background in order to attain a higher paying job. For
me, a college degree is important because it will help me to attain the educational background I

For me personally, the college degree obtained will aid me in being able to better complete the
tasks to which I am assigned at work. It will also give my boss actual evidence that I have the
necessary skills needed to be promoted to a higher and better paying position. A college degree
will give me the knowledge base I need to compete in the workforce. College life makes it
possible for students to meet and be acquainted with people from all works of life and to
possibly build work contacts with these people later in life. It provides students with access to
differing cultures, personalities and attitudes and provides students with the playground to learn
to handle them. Due to the fact that a college student is exposed to varying subject matters, both
in and out of his faculty, a student can demonstrate to his employee that he is better equipped to
handle learning new concepts since he is more well rounded and knowledgeable in different
areas, both in and out of his job scope. The efficiency at making and completing short, medium
and long term goals, displayed by the student, allows the employer to ascertain how effective the
employee will be at setting and achieving his goals and how effective he will be with time
management and multitasking. In conclusion, a college degree will provide me with the hope and

The Peasants Revolt The Movie Essay
The Protestant Reformation was a religious movement to reform Catholicism leading to the
creation of Protestantism. Many movies try to portray the religious movement, but one stands out
from the others. The film Luther did not accurately portray the social and political aspects of the
Protestant Reformation. The film does not give enough detail to historically represent the German
peasants and nobility; it also dramatizes political characters and events to specifically target Luther
s enemies, giving inaccurate information in the process.
The film lacks the detail to historically portray the social aspects successfully because the plot orbits
around Martin Luther; it omits different aspects of the Peasants Revolt, specifically the relationship
between the German peasants and nobility. Throughout the film, Eric Till the director eliminates
most of the interaction between the German peasants and nobility allowing the film to revolve
around Luther. The Peasants Revolt erupted due to German nobles placing unrealistic taxes on
peasants, but the movie prioritized another cause: The whole world s been turned upside down by
that madman Luther (Luther 2003). Peasants from Wittenberg claimed that Luther s ideas lived on
after his kidnapping and inspired peasants to separate themselves from the Catholic Church. Till

Louis Riel Summary
The second part of the comic strip biography Louis Riel by Chester Brown, starts off in early
September 1870 in St. Joseph, Dakota territory. Louis Riel is reading a note which talks about
how the Canadian soldiers have wreaked havoc on the Red River Colony. It talks about how some
MГ©tis men had been murdered and quite a few were beaten. Women had also been raped in the
settlement too. The Canadian soldiers have brought a reign of fear to the Red River settlement.
This is an excerpt from the note Louis Rielwas reading. Also, Schultz returned and was basically
running things. The comic strip biography then fasts forwards to the summer of 1871. Louis Riel
is reading another note now. This one is talking about how the land the people of the settlement
had been promised by the Canadian government was being given to people from Eastern Canada.
The exceptional rich farmland was being given to the British farmers and the requests for land were
being delayed. After this Riel goes to his mother s house in the settlement and finds that many of
the soldiers have went home. His mother though, warns him to lay low. The story then shifts and
fast forwards to Ottawa in the December of 1871, about five to seven months later. Father Ritchot
has arranged a meeting with John Alexander Macdonald to discuss amnesty for Louis Riel s crimes.
Father Ritchot immediately confronts John Alexander Macdonald, demanding to know why the
amnesty was not granted. John Alexander Macdonald responds by

Checkmate to counter Motorola to ensure microprocessor supremacy. With the success of securing
IBM contract along with more wins, Intel was on set on track to ensure industry dominance.
Exit from DRAMs
Intel TMT had an emotional connect with the DRAMs business. Successful development of 1M
DRAM was traded off for microprocessor development more on the behest of the middle line
managers who developed the microprocessor technology over time with resources allocated for
DRAM research. This was in line with Intel s entrepreneurial culture which encouraged strategic
planning through all functions. By 1986, Intel s TMT officially approved middle managers pursuit
to exit from the DRAM business and focus on the microprocessor.
Intel as a Microprocessor company
Intel began supplying microprocessor to IBM. To meet the demand, Intel licensed to as many as 12
other companies to produce 8086 chips, which left Intel with just 30% of the total revenues and
profits for that product. Gradually, they reduced the number of licensee to only IBM. Thus they
retained the profits pool within their value chain.
Meanwhile, IBM, who was Intel s star customer, decided to produce own proprietary components.
This was an inflection point for Intel. It partnered with Compaq and Microsoft, to break the
hegemony of IBM. Though Microsoft products did not

Causes Of OJ Simpson Murders
The murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman are a mystery to many of us today. These
murders happened on June 12th 1994 in Los Angeles, California. Famous football player and ex
husband of Nicole Brown, OJ Simpson, was taken into custody and was convicted of these
murders. He is now protected under double jeopardy, so if he did commit the murders he cannot
be punished for them. The murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman may never be solved,
evidence, trials, and the aftermath of the case suggest that a suspect may never be found. There
was a lot of evidence found against OJ that suggests he is the one who committed these murders.
To begin with, there were hairs consistent with Simpsons found on Ron s shirt and in a cap found
at the Bundy residence(site of the crime). Second, cotton fibers were found that were consistent
with those in the Bronco(his car) that were found on the glove at the crime scene, and carpet
fibers from his car found in a cap at Bundy residence. Next, there was blood dropped at the Bundy
residence that was the same type as OJ s, and blood found in Simpson s car. There was also blood

Many people disagree with this ruling, but there are also people who believe someone else

murders in civil court and had to pay the victims families $33.5 million. In simpler terms, OJ

Reasons For Mass Shootings
It was a quiet morning of December 14, 2012 in Newtown, CT, USA during the usual winter
weather in New England state, with people preparing for the Christmas holidays. What happened
next has triggered consequences of starting the major debate on gun control with the creation of a
presidential task force charged with recommending solutions to the problem of gun violence, and
more specific, public mass shootings. That is when 20 year old tall and lanky man named Adam
Lanza made his way to the Sandy Hook Elementary School and cold bloodedly murdered 20
children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members. Minutes before, he
shot dead his own mother at their Newtown home... It was not neither first nor last of wanton mass
killings of strangers/innocent bystanders (children) with deliberate attempt to deprive them of their
lives without any tangible gain or explainable reasoning, motives happening in the US.
This paper will look into, the constituting factors to the mass shootings in the US. It will examine
variables, such as: Social Construct, Mental Illness, Quest for Fame, Revenge, Terrorism as well as

The Right Of Free Speech And Freedom Of Press
The right many Americans take for granted every day is the ability to speak to one another and
to express their opinions through verbal and non verbal means of communication. The First
Amendment provides the right of free speech and freedom of press to the people. The Bill of
Rights, also known as the first 10 amendments to the Constitution went into effect on Dec. 15,
1791, when the state of Virginia ratified it, giving the bill the majority of ratifying states required
to protect citizens from the power of the federal government. One must ask, why would such a
right need to be thought about for so long before enacting it for the people? Why has this never
been considered to be a universal right that every man and woman should have across the world?
Historically, in the development of Western Civilization and prior to the colonization of the
Eastern states by the British Monarchy, the British colonies were not even states yet, let alone
united. Neighboring countries Canada and Mexico were variously governed by the French
Canadians, where the French influence can be felt to this day, in places from Quebec to Montreal,
by the Spaniards in California, and the British in what is now British Columbia. Parts of California
and Texas were also under Spanish and Mexican occupation. What England, France, and Spain had
in common were monarchies as governments, with the King or Queen conflated with the Church as
ordained by God. The common people were peasants in a feudal

The Lightning organization is clearly reacting harshly to other fans after last year s Stanley Cup

Last year during the playoffs, fans living out of state could not purchase any tickets. Making it
easier for Lightning fans to get their tickets first. However, the team must forget where they are

Housing Data Point Towards A Housing Market Bubble
Does Recent Housing Data Point Towards Another Housing Market Bubble?
The last housing crash was devastating to the global financial community. Considering the current
trends in the housing market, are we becoming more at risk for another housing bubble? The
experts continue to debate this contentious question.
As home prices continue to skyrocket, speculation in the market persists and reinforces the
upward trend in the housing market. Data from the National Association of Realtors, or NAR,
reveals that some of the conditions that led to the 2007 2009 housing bubble and crash began
reappearing in 2015. According to NAR, home price increases have been incredible in the
previous years; in May 2015, 39 successive months of increases in housing prices was recorded;
since the last housing bubble and crash, from May 2014 to May 2015, home prices have gone up a
staggering 7.9%. In addition, the NAR noted that 5.1% of the existing housing market inventory
sold, which when seasonally adjusted, equated to a rate of 5.35 million homes.
Recent financial data indicates median home prices have shot up more than a whopping 35% in the
past 4 years, and the amount of residential real estate sold increased up to or past 30%. Is the current
housing market in correction territory? Although some would say it s only natural the housing
market push such new heights after reaching the lows of the last bubble explosion, others would

The Turn Of The Screw Interpretation Essay
In the equivocal Victorian novella The Turn of the Screw, author Henry James details events
surrounding a tyrannical, oppressive governess as she assumes the care of two seemingly angelic
children and subsequently delves deeply into insanity. Purposefully ambiguous, this story is left
open to numerous interpretations ranging from viewing it as a frightening ghoststory to a tale of
manipulative, inherently evil children. In the psychoanalytic perspective, which follows teachings
from prominent figureheads such as Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, analysis of the text reveals that
the apparitions were merely hallucinations, viewable only by the protagonist. When reading the
novella with this interpretation, it should also be seen in a satirical manner,... Show more content on

Quint is described as being dressed in somebody s clothes. They re smart, but they re not his

Uncle who is at the epicenter of the Governess thoughts. It is clear that Mrs. Jessel is somewhat
of an alter ego with the governess, definitely exhibiting her fears through her presence. The
doubling isn t merely symbolic, either, as there are numerous cases where the Governess is seen
in the place of the spirits. For example, when the protagonist views Quint peering out the
window, she duplicates his behavior and manages to terrify Mrs. Grose in the process. When
Mrs. Jessel is viewed crying at the bottom of the staircase, the Governess later finds herself in the
same exact position and jumps up, repulsed by the memory of the specter. The fact that both
women were on a lower step on the stairwell could also be representative of the psychological
fear that the Governess holds of her possibly having a lowered social status or class based on her
actions. After all, Mrs. Jessel s association with the valet clearly knocked her down a few steps,

Among the many attractions of the San Francisco Bay area, there is a peculiar park within the
city. This park is contoured by walls, intercalated by open gates. Seems that the park is a mini
town, inside San Francisco, for behind those walls there are many amenities originally built as

Presidio was an area of about 3 square miles located between the city of San Francisco and the
Pacific Ocean that functioned as an Army post from 1776 until 1994. First, it was under the
control of the Spanish, followed by Mexicans, and then by the Americans (Benton Short, 1998). In
1994 the Golden Gate National Recreational Area (GGNRA) assimilated the Presidio as part of its

If I could make any law, what would it be and why?
When a law is passed, it can have a large effect on the citizens of that area. It has been said that
the first year of a child s life is the basic foundation of their entire life. In order to make that first
year successful, money, time and of course love are critical. However because the current policies
that exist in America, mothers are denied an easy balance between work, money, and time for their

According to the National Partnership, 76% of respondents of a survey favored updating the
Family Medical Leave Act. Also, 84% of people under 30 favored updating the act, and 72% of
people over 65 favor the updating of the act. Some believe that paid leave will be extremely bad
timing, will be difficult to fund, and that the government should focus on the fiscal cliff instead.
However, in the long run having paid maternity leave will result in saving money.
There is a direct relationship between the amount of leave one is granted, and breastfeeding
rates. In a 2010 study it said the US could prevent 900 deaths of infants and save 13 billion
dollars per year if 90% of women breastfeed exclusively for the first six months of their child s
life. As of 2010, only 43% of babies in America are breastfed for six months. Women are not able
to breastfeed exclusively due to the high demands of work. Some believe that updating the Family
Medical Leave Act will create debt but the findings of this study say it can actually help the
economy and save lives.
According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, mothers who return to work soon after
the birth of a child are more likely to become depressed and are less healthy than mothers who do
not, and one third of mothers end up in debt after childbirth due to having unpaid maternity leave.

Ancient Civilizations
The Connections Between Ancient Civilizations
A civilization is born through the domestication of plants and animals followed by the cultivation
of these products in which a surplus allows for the specialization of labor. Civilizations allowed
for humans to create order and pursue intellectual and spiritual matters to a degree in which man
had not previously been allowed. Most ancient civilizations arose from a fertile farming location
and predictable harvest. When basic needs have been provided for the specialization of labor can
provide a culture a chance at endless artistic and technological advances. An analysis of the
characteristics of civilization demonstrates common threads which connect the ancient societies of
Sumeria, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley. Many of these connections can be found within each
civilization s religion, government, location, language, trade, and technology.
The deepest connection that binds Sumeria, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley together is their
location on a prominent river. Rivers provide rich fertile topsoil and access to freshwater, which
together are a recipe for life. Without these pockets of agricultural paradise these civilizations
may not have been formed at all. With societies such as Egypt, the Nile river was a calm,
predictable, and benevolent god. This allowed for the Egyptian people to use basic irrigation
techniques such as the Basin technique. This allowed for the regular flood waters to be contained
and replenish the

My Team s First Robotics Competition Of The Season
It was two in the morning, five hours before my team s first robotics competition of the season. We
d already worked tirelessly, but were planning one last test run before going to bed.
The robot was driving over the ramp when, all of a sudden, it stopped. The tank treads that we had
researched and trusted had snapped in half.
Most of us yelled in frustration, but not our team leaders, Max and Matt. They picked up the robot,
brought it back to the work table, and within an hour, they had orchestrated a creative solution to
the snapped tread. Watching the way they managed the situation, I felt inspired: I was only a
freshman but I wanted to know what they knew.
Over the course of the next two years, I learned from Max and Matt the different ways to cut
metal, how to solder wire, how to write basic code for the robot, and how to design mechanisms
that would ensure the greatest reliability. I learned how to document my work in an engineering
notebook and how to explain to judges the way our team operates. As I gained more experience
and grew more committed to the team, I began to come into the robotics lab during lunch and on
Sundays. I was always eager to keep working.
By my junior year, I was ready to take on a leadership role. That year, as at the start of every
season, all participants in the league watched a video detailing the tasks our robots would need to

Persuasive Essay On Technology
Technology over the years has developed into something amazing and bad. Every year a new
type of technology is developed and pushing the world as we know it now to be full of technology
and electronics. Before the 1900s technology was strange and was just starting to blossom into
what it is in the present day (2000s). One of the most amazing inventions would be indoor plumbing
. Indoor plumbing consists of sinks, showers, baths and toilets. Everybody has benefited somehow
from indoor plumbing. Indoor plumbing has advantages and disadvantages. It also has a short
history, although it took lots of work to get to function properly. What really makes indoor
plumbing one of the best inventions?
How did indoor plumbing come about? For many years toilets were an outhouse in the woods.
Basically it is a huge hole in the ground. Many people would find either a river and wash off or
fill a bath tub for with water they boiled on the stove and poured into the tub. If they needed
water, they went the well and got fresh water. Many civilizations learned how to insert indoor
plumbing in their homes, many years before America did. Indoor plumbing first came about in
1775 by Thomas Crapper. Thomas Crapper noticed how many diseases started to come about from
the poor lack of sanitation. The first time that indoor plumbing became a major thing was in 1829
by Isaiah Roger. He decided to add indoor plumbing in Tremont Hotel in Boston. When Isaiah Roger

Sight Words
Name of Assignment: How I will develop sight word knowledge in my instructional programme.
Introduction
Sight words are words which are recognized on sight and do not require any analysis. Sight word
knowledge refers to the ability to recognize the pronunciation of words automatically without
conscious application of other decoding strategies (Leu and Kinzer, 1999).
One of the benchmarks of a good reader is fluency. LaBerg and Samuels, 1976 define fluency as
the process of automatically, accurately and rapidly recognizing words. It is my desire as a
teacher to produce excellent readers. The sad reality for me is that, not all students can achieve
this. As a teacher I see my task as one in which I must equip my pupils with the ... Show more

Using the words they omitted, I recorded them and made a chart in the classroom and drilled them
daily until they memorized the words.
As I reflect now on that method, I realized that being an untrained teacher, I did not see the
importance of allowing my pupils to experience these words in a reading context. Now that I have
been trained, I realize that along with teaching and drilling words in isolation, these words must be
taught in context and pupils given the opportunity to use the words in writing activities. The use of
flashcards with the words written on it is also a good tool to use along with word lists. Nicholson
(1998) suggests using flashcards to foster automaticity in word recognition and teaching children to
read words faster can improve reading comprehension dramatically.
2) The Language Experience Approach is another method I would use to teach sight words in my
instructional programme. According to Roe, Smith and Burns, (2005), page 81, the Language
Experience Approach, in which students own language is written down and used as the basis for
their reading material, is good for developing sight vocabulary. This approach provides a
meaningful context for learning sight words, and it can be used productively with individuals or
groups.
What I particularly like about this method is that pupils will play an active word in the lesson in
that it comes from

Uniformity In The Tudor Period
The Tudor monarchy was always weaker and more vulnerable than its image suggested.
I agree with the statement as there is too much information to disagree with it.
The Tudor period was unique, in the way that it s monarchy was troubled by many things, mainly
poor health, short lives and often, very few children, especially male heirs that lived passed
infancy. Henry VIII seemed to be a rather powerful leader, but in actual fact, he was just a front.
He mainly delegated a lot of the work to Woolsey, and his other advisors. Henry often had other

that will allow the creation of three parent babies. The rapid progress in germ line engineering has
caused controversy between scientists and the public and thus journalists first coined the notion
designer baby . Whilst, there are benefits that this brings, is this ethically acceptable?

Religious organisations claim it s playing Gold, whilst others state that this would cause a gap
between the rich and the poor and only the wealthy will be able to make a purchase. On the other
hand, you have science claiming this would harness greatness and save future generations from
diseases.
The designer baby concept is controversial because of the moral platform the term falls on and the
ethical dilemmas it brings. There are many debates surrounding the advantages and the
disadvantages for the creation of designer babies . One of the main benefits is the possibility of
lowering the risk of certain inherited medical conditions and genetic diseases being passed on.
These include Down Syndrome, Alzheimer s, obesity, cancer, anemia and many others. On the
contrary, it highlights challenges and issues with the child s identity, and the societal divide and
impact on civilization.
The dictionary definition of designer baby is a baby whose genetic make up has been selected in
order to eradicate a particular defect, or to ensure that a particular gene is present. In the year 2000,
Adam Nash was conceived using pre implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and named the world s
first savior sibling and the first designer baby .

Fusion And Hybrid Electric Vehicle
Three model years passed by and I finally got behind the wheel again of a Ford Fusion. Just like
the last time, this model was the Fusion Energi, a plug in hybrid electric vehicle based on Ford s
popular midsize car. Now in its fifth model year, the 2017 Fusion Energi is a close match to the
standard hybrid model as well as to the gasoline version. Besides the electric charging port
located just ahead of the driver s door, the other differences have to do with badging you ll find
Fusion Energi markups on the exterior as well as inside the sedan. And that s a good thing too the
Fusion is already an attractive model and no styling differentiation is warranted. Some
manufacturers opt for silly looking grilles or other embellishments to distinguish gas and hybrid
models. On the other hand, it seems Ford decided that a near uniform look for all Fusion models is
entirely sufficient. 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum The 2017 version welcomes a third trim
level, Platinum, joining the SE and Titanium editions. Also new this year is the grille, exterior LED
lighting, and SYNC 3 infotainment system. All models now come with an 11 speaker audio system
and a new rotary transmission selector. What hasn t changed is the 2.0 liter, four cylinder engine
powering this model nor the permanent magnet AC synchronous electric motor or the lithium ion
battery. Also present is an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission to turn the
front wheels. Selling hybrids is a

B. Resistance to accidental login:
Our system is more resistance of accidental login Since the probability of correctly responding to
password (Ki) is 8/64, that is 1/8, the success probability of accidental login with the password (ki)
with length L, denote by Pal(L), is
Pal(L)=(1/8)^L
Fig. shows the Pal(L) for different values of L. However,
since the password length is a more secret, if hacker s want to hack the system he first of all guess
the user password then he try to hack but as the probability distribution of the lengths of the
passwords to be used is assumed uniform between 8 and 15, the probability that the hacker
correctly guesses the password length is 1/8.

Technology Changed Technology
Technology has changed greatly in the last 100 years. To help me understand how technology
has changed, I interviewed my grandmother about the changes in her lifetime. Throughout her
life, she has witnessed many technological changes around the world. One change that has
occurred in her lifetime is the color TV. When she was born, color TVs existed, however, none
of the channels broadcasted in color. It was until she was in her 20s when stations began to
transition into color television. She also told me that when she was younger, they would find
out the news through newspapers a day or two after the event occurred. However, today we can
hit a button on our phones and we ll receive notifications moments after an event has occurred.
Lastly, she told me about the first cell phones. She said that the first cell phones were called
Brick Phones because they were the size of brick. However, cell phones today are much smaller,
and can fit into your pocket. After talking to her about some changes in her life, I asked her how
she felt about changes in technology. She said, I m all for progress in technology. However,
sometimes it can be very scary because it feels like it s of of your control. For example with
computers, they can have security safeguards, but hackers keep getting smarter and can access our
computer easily. I do though like the progress with regards to safer cars, better appliances, and
especially better medical technology for our health care. Based

The Ethics And Moral Philosophy
According to the online guide to ethics and moral philosophy, Utilitarianism is a normative ethical
theory that places the focus of right and wrong solely on the outcomes (consequences) of choosing
on action/policy over other actions/policies. As such, it moves beyond the scope of one s own
interests and takes into account the interests of others (Online n.d). In simpler vernacular,
utilitarianismis the view that the morally right action is the action that increases utility or does the
most good. The utilitarian view is to maximize the overall good which contrasts the typical
egotistical view which puts the needs of oneself above the needs of others. In Utilitarianism,
everyone s happiness counts the same. There is no I before we or you , there is just what is best
for everyone involved.
One of the classical utilitarian s, Jeremy Bentham, used this theory to analyze legal topics and
incite social reform. Bentham believed that humans were ruled by two entities pain and pleasure.
According to Bentham, we actively seek pleasure while actively avoiding pain. Bentham believes
that they ...govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think... (Bentham PML, 1). This comes
with the basic association that actions that promote happiness (pleasure) are acceptable and actions
that cause unhappiness (pain) are unacceptable. This basic assumption leads to what Bentham
describes to be an act evaluation versus a character evaluation. The issue with a character
evaluation, which

How Did Benjamin Franklin Impact Society
Franklin s Impact on the Eighteenth Century In Poor Richard s Almanack, Franklin once wrote,
God helps them that help themselves (Clark 6). Benjamin Franklin, America s past printer,
publisher, scientist, and inventor, followed this philosophy of life throughout the century of the
Enlightenment (Wilson 204). He not only shared his perspectives with the world, but he shared
his discoveries, as well. Franklin improved his society s life in a variety of ways. Franklin
impacted the eighteenth century by making scientific discoveries, sharing his philosophy in the
Enlightenment, and establishing social and political improvements for the American colonies. To
begin with, Franklin was born on January seventeenth, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts (Labaree
xiii). Even with only two years of schooling, Franklin devoted himself to reading and learning at
a young age (Fleming 15). He was interested in poetry as a child and even published one of his
own. As he grew older, Franklin was inspired by what he had read about the philosopher, Socrates.
Franklin used his questioning tactics to figure out his own logical reasoning and beliefs (Kurland 4
5). At just age nine, Franklin was persuaded to sign a contract to be an apprentice printer to his...

Copley Medal in 1753, and Franklin became a member. Both Harvard and Yale universities gave

Clifford Geertz s Definition Of Religion
3) Clifford Geertz s definition of religion is an accurate reflection of the basic tenet of religion.
Geertz argues that religion is based solely on the concepts of symbols and the impacts that symbols
have on the practitioners of the religion. Geertz demonstrates that symbols give a meaning to life.
The symbols give practitioners something to hold onto at all times. Geertz s definition of symbols
and their impacts fits the use of symbols in many religious practices including the religions of the
Huichol Indians and the Amish sect of the Protestant Christian church. In the first part of the Geertz
s definition, he states that religionis a system of symbols which acts... . All religions are made up
of symbols. In the Amish church, the symbols include the baptism and living in a traditional way.
For the Amish, baptism symbolize[s] a commitment to both God and fellow believers (Robinson,
2015). By being baptized, the adult member of the community is making a lifelong commitment
to live a simple life for God in the way of the Amish. For the Huichol, Ramon states, Now I will
tell you of the maize and the peyote and the deer... They are our life. They are ourselves. (189). For
the Huichol, the symbols represent a unity complex that are the centerfold of their religion.
Religion is made up of symbols, and the Amish Christian and Huichol religious complexes
demonstrate that concept. In the second part of the definition, Geertz states that symbols establish

Yes Please, by Amy Poehler, is a nonfiction book depicting Amy Poehler s life and her view on how to do life. Yes Please was published by William Morrow Publishers in New York, NY in 2014. This book encompasses a wide range of topics from Poehler s career in comedy to how to treat yourself right. Poehler makes many compelling statements, and tells rich stories about a variety of things throughout her book. The first to stick out as important speaks on the tiny voice in our heads. This voice she speaks of is ...a nicy whispery voice inside of us, but the bad ones are usually at a lower register and come through a little clearer (Poehler,... This can be seen when Amy is discussing her old group, UCB, motto of don t think; she says Don t think. Get out of your head. Stop planning and just go, (Poehler, 196). Farther into this section of Yes Please, Amy Poehler delves into careers verse passion and how to treat each of them respectively if they aren t lucky enough to align. She truly inspires while expressing how hard she had to work to get to the top. She made herself into who she is now because she figured out who she wanted to be and she became it. A comedian is who Amy Poehler is so that is who she became through her years of hard work waiting tables, and making connections, and learning, and traveling to work and succeed. Poehler finds in all of this that ambivalence is key to success, with this she states You have to care about your work but not about the result. You have to care about how good you are and how good you feel, but not how good people think you are, or how good people think you look, (Poehler, 223, 224). • 3. Steam Engines Of The Industrial Revolution It is common knowledge that the world as we know it today, was forged in the factories during the era of the industrial revolution. The factories during this era, themselves, were powered by steam engines. But where did the steam engine come from? Who invented this revolutionary invention? How does the steam enginechug chug at 50+ miles per hour by merely using hot air, emitted by boiling water. The answer to these questions: the steam engine was not invented nor developed solely by one person, but by contributions of a multitude of people throughout this time in history. A modern, simple steam engine, gets its energy from water boiled by ablazing wood or coal underneath. When water becomes steam, its volume increases about 1,600 times and that expansion is full of energy. The next step is to channel the steam with its energy, into the cylinder and through an open valve, pushing the piston back into the cylinder. The first valve in the cylinder closes as the piston is pushed back. Then, the second valve opens and steam escapes through this valve. As a result, the event of the escaping steam creates a vacuum effect; causing the piston to go back into its initial position; repeating the process. However, it is slightly different for a train. With a train, the steam is released through the open hole(s) on the end of the cylinder; releasing the steam to the open air. As for going back to the initial position, based on Newton s First Law, inertia from the wheel will cause the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They also cite from sociological studies that impersonal practises and the inability to cure chronic illness is part of the explanation for the move to use CAM and alternative therapies (Telford, Kralik, Koch,2006). The results of the study indicate that another reason for uptake is the fact that many believed in the trends of alternative methods and choose to use a consumerist attitude (Sharma, 1992:80) to obtaining health care. Consumer demand has brought about the changes associated with CAM and alternative therapies use. Queenship In Robin s Essay On Hatshepsut While Egyptian monuments did not record individualities of ancient Egyptian queens, in the article, Robins discussed four queens in detail to speculate their characters and to demonstrate that kingship was complemented by queenship. I will focus on her argument on Hatshepsut and respond to it. In her research on Hatshepsut, Robins argued that Hatshepsut identified herself as a king during her queenship to build up power. She stated that Hatshepsut used god s wife as her title, reminiscent of Ahmose Nefertari. Further, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s kingship and argued that Hatshepsut could become a king due to her strong personality and the coruler political system in ancient Egypt. Moreover, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s daughter s important role. Then she discussed Hatshepsut s unusualness and argued that she was a fusion of female and male. • 12. Home To Harlem Analysis In his analysis of Claude McKay s Home to Harlem, Shane Vogel refers to the text as a piece of literature which is invested in affective mimesis. Essentially, the text is interested in the reproduction of feelings and senses. The success of the text is based on the audience s ability to feel what McKay wants them to feel. Of course, this method has its limits. How will a non black audiencecapable of absorbing the material presented exactly as McKay means for it to be interpreted? The answer to that question, of course, is that this text was not produced for consumption by white audiences. This has been established by McKay s response to W.E.B. Du Bois s criticisms of Home to Harlem, where it is staunchly established that McKay s portrayal of African American individuals is for African Americans themselves the text portrays a series of experiences which can only be understood by an in group, and that is that. Thus, McKay s affective mimesis, or the elliptical sensorium of pleasure he produces, aims not to depict Harlem as a spectacle, but as a place in which his audience already knows and already exists in. Ultimately, the story of Home to Harlem exemplifies a never ending series of knowing and unknowing one s surroundings and one s home. This is reinforced by the novel s looping plot structure. McKay s formulation of the text does not give us an interpretation of diaspora, then it aims to reproduce the feelingof diaspora in our hearts. First, let us consider how the structure of the novel s plot reinforces the dual complexity of identity and remembrance. Home to Harlem is a text defined by its astounding structural redundancy. Regardless of one s place in the novel, it can be assumed that similar events are going to unfold there will be a mention of clubs or alcohol, dancing will be involved, and Jake will surely sigh about how he has lost his sweet brown. In instances where Jake and his companions aren t in Harlem, Jake laments for a return to what he considers home. Thus, aside from certain moments, such as when Jake finally finds Felice, the formulaic structure of Home to Harlem seems doomed to repeat itself for eternity. It is during this aforementioned reunion when the audience begins to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

College life makes it possible for students to meet and be acquainted with people from all works of life and to possibly build work contacts with these people later in life. It provides students with access to differing cultures, personalities and attitudes and provides students with the playground to learn to handle them. Due to the fact that a college student is exposed to varying subject matters, both in and out of his faculty, a student can demonstrate to his employee that he is better equipped to handle learning new concepts since he is more well rounded and knowledgeable in different areas, both in and out of his job scope. • 17. The Peasants Revolt The Movie Essay The Protestant Reformation was a religious movement to reform Catholicism leading to the creation of Protestantism. Many movies try to portray the religious movement, but one stands out from the others. The film Luther did not accurately portray the social and political aspects of the Protestant Reformation. The film does not give enough detail to historically represent the German peasants and nobility; it also dramatizes political characters and events to specifically target Luther s enemies, giving inaccurate information in the process. The film lacks the detail to historically portray the social aspects successfully because the plot orbits around Martin Luther; it omits different aspects of the Peasants Revolt, specifically the relationship between the German peasants and nobility. Throughout the film, Eric Till the director eliminates most of the interaction between the German peasants and nobility allowing the film to revolve around Luther. The Peasants Revolt erupted due to German nobles placing unrealistic taxes on peasants, but the movie prioritized another cause: The whole world s been turned upside down by that madman Luther (Luther 2003). Also, Schultz returned and was basically running things. The comic strip biography then fasts forwards to the summer of 1871. Louis Riel is reading another note now. This one is talking about how the land the people of the settlement had been promised by the Canadian government was being given to people from Eastern Canada. The exceptional rich farmland was being given to the British farmers and the requests for land were being delayed. After this Riel goes to his mother s house in the settlement and finds that many of the soldiers have went home. His mother though, warns him to lay low. The story then shifts and fast forwards to Ottawa in the December of 1871, about five to seven months later. Father Ritchot has arranged a meeting with John Alexander Macdonald to discuss amnesty for Louis Riel s crimes. Father Ritchot immediately confronts John Alexander Macdonald, demanding to know why the amnesty was not granted. John Alexander Macdonald responds by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Successful development of 1M DRAM was traded off for microprocessor development more on the behest of the middle line managers who developed the microprocessor technology over time with resources allocated for DRAM research. This was in line with Intel s entrepreneurial culture which encouraged strategic planning through all functions. By 1986, Intel s TMT officially approved middle managers pursuit to exit from the DRAM business and focus on the microprocessor. Intel as a Microprocessor company Intel began supplying microprocessor to IBM. To meet the demand, Intel licensed to as many as 12 other companies to produce 8086 chips, which left Intel with just 30% of the total revenues and profits for that product. The Right Of Free Speech And Freedom Of Press The right many Americans take for granted every day is the ability to speak to one another and to express their opinions through verbal and non verbal means of communication. The First Amendment provides the right of free speech and freedom of press to the people. The Bill of Rights, also known as the first 10 amendments to the Constitution went into effect on Dec. 15, 1791, when the state of Virginia ratified it, giving the bill the majority of ratifying states required to protect citizens from the power of the federal government. One must ask, why would such a right need to be thought about for so long before enacting it for the people? Why has this never been considered to be a universal right that every man and woman should have across the world? Historically, in the development of Western Civilization and prior to the colonization of the Eastern states by the British Monarchy, the British colonies were not even states yet, let alone united. Neighboring countries Canada and Mexico were variously governed by the French Canadians, where the French influence can be felt to this day, in places from Quebec to Montreal, by the Spaniards in California, and the British in what is now British Columbia. Parts of California and Texas were also under Spanish and Mexican occupation. Data from the National Association of Realtors, or NAR, reveals that some of the conditions that led to the 2007 2009 housing bubble and crash began reappearing in 2015. According to NAR, home price increases have been incredible in the previous years; in May 2015, 39 successive months of increases in housing prices was recorded; since the last housing bubble and crash, from May 2014 to May 2015, home prices have gone up a staggering 7.9%. It is clear that Mrs. Jessel is somewhat of an alter ego with the governess, definitely exhibiting her fears through her presence. The doubling isn t merely symbolic, either, as there are numerous cases where the Governess is seen in the place of the spirits. For example, when the protagonist views Quint peering out the window, she duplicates his behavior and manages to terrify Mrs. Grose in the process. When Mrs. Jessel is viewed crying at the bottom of the staircase, the Governess later finds herself in the same exact position and jumps up, repulsed by the memory of the specter. The fact that both women were on a lower step on the stairwell could also be representative of the psychological fear that the Governess holds of her possibly having a lowered social status or class based on her actions. Most ancient civilizations arose from a fertile farming location and predictable harvest. One of the benchmarks of a good reader is fluency. LaBerg and Samuels, 1976 define fluency as the process of automatically, accurately and rapidly recognizing words. Now that I have been trained, I realize that along with teaching and drilling words in isolation, these words must be taught in context and pupils given the opportunity to use the words in writing activities. The use of flashcards with the words written on it is also a good tool to use along with word lists. Nicholson (1998) suggests using flashcards to foster automaticity in word recognition and teaching children to read words faster can improve reading comprehension dramatically. 2) The Language Experience Approach is another method I would use to teach sight words in my instructional programme. • 40. Elizabeth Wein s Code Name Verity It is hard to find that one person in the world that you can always relate too. That one friend knows your personality and perspective. In the book Code Name Verity written by Elizabeth Wein, we see a unique and very special thing of friendship. This amazing friendship we get to see is between two girls, Maddie and Julie. Because of their job and missions, they are both required to have code names throughout the book. These girls know exactly what kind of trouble they would get into if any code name was given away and most importantly, the trust they would break from their friendship. The reason why we see Maddie and Julie have such a strong friendship is because of the time spent between them and the amount of care between the two. Julie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plot to me on page 69 was all about Julie pretty much I wish I gotten to know you better in a love and gay tone. But once I saw it used again in the battle field, she shows more of a loosen up, everything will be alright set of tone. Once I had reached the end of the book, everything started come together and make sense of what Julie was trying to say to the audience and Maddie, I m going to go out in a bang and these are my last words. From the last time the quote Kiss me hardy! was said on page 295, it was hard to focus on the final pages of the book because the plot took a complete turn on me. Wein did a great job on covering up the plot twister throughout the book that behind this quote. It was tough to tell when Julie was telling the truth on where they are from. Before being told the truth on where they are from and what kind of culture they grew up around, it was tough to determine if they were gay. When a girl say s kiss me or any other affection words, people tend to think of it in a positive sexual way. In this case, Julie is saying it to Maddie. When I girl says it to another girl in America they are usually gay or just messing around with them. Because of not knowing important information about Julie, it is tough to determine how she meant it. After listening to an audio book off of youtube.com I got a much better understand of how Julie said it. After talking in class about the truth of being from England in 1941 and ... • 42. Fusion And Hybrid Electric Vehicle Three model years passed by and I finally got behind the wheel again of a Ford Fusion. Just like the last time, this model was the Fusion Energi, a plug in hybrid electric vehicle based on Ford s popular midsize car. Now in its fifth model year, the 2017 Fusion Energi is a close match to the standard hybrid model as well as to the gasoline version. Besides the electric charging port located just ahead of the driver s door, the other differences have to do with badging you ll find Fusion Energi markups on the exterior as well as inside the sedan. And that s a good thing too the Fusion is already an attractive model and no styling differentiation is warranted. Some manufacturers opt for silly looking grilles or other embellishments to distinguish gas and hybrid models. On the other hand, it seems Ford decided that a near uniform look for all Fusion models is entirely sufficient. 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum The 2017 version welcomes a third trim level, Platinum, joining the SE and Titanium editions. Also new this year is the grille, exterior LED lighting, and SYNC 3 infotainment system. All models now come with an 11 speaker audio system and a new rotary transmission selector. What hasn t changed is the 2.0 liter, four cylinder engine powering this model nor the permanent magnet AC synchronous electric motor or the lithium ion battery. Also present is an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission to turn the front wheels. Selling hybrids is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The security and the usability of more important part of system this is analyzed in this section for our project. A. Password space: The total number of all possible passwords with length L is 8 *64^l. Therefore, the password space of our project is B. Resistance to accidental login: Our system is more resistance of accidental login Since the probability of correctly responding to password (Ki) is 8/64, that is 1/8, the success probability of accidental login with the password (ki) with length L, denote by Pal(L), is Pal(L)=(1/8)^L Fig. shows the Pal(L) for different values of L. To help me understand how technology has changed, I interviewed my grandmother about the changes in her lifetime. Throughout her life, she has witnessed many technological changes around the world. One change that has occurred in her lifetime is the color TV. When she was born, color TVs existed, however, none of the channels broadcasted in color. It was until she was in her 20s when stations began to transition into color television. She also told me that when she was younger, they would find out the news through newspapers a day or two after the event occurred. However, today we can hit a button on our phones and we ll receive notifications moments after an event has occurred. Lastly, she told me about the first cell phones. She said that the first cell phones were called Brick Phones because they were the size of brick. However, cell phones today are much smaller, and can fit into your pocket. After talking to her about some changes in her life, I asked her how she felt about changes in technology. She said, I m all for progress in technology. However, sometimes it can be very scary because it feels like it s of of your control. For example with computers, they can have security safeguards, but hackers keep getting smarter and can access our computer easily. I do though like the progress with regards to safer cars, better appliances, and especially better medical technology for our health care. Based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Ethics And Moral Philosophy According to the online guide to ethics and moral philosophy, Utilitarianism is a normative ethical theory that places the focus of right and wrong solely on the outcomes (consequences) of choosing on action/policy over other actions/policies. As such, it moves beyond the scope of one s own interests and takes into account the interests of others (Online n.d). In simpler vernacular, utilitarianismis the view that the morally right action is the action that increases utility or does the most good. The utilitarian view is to maximize the overall good which contrasts the typical egotistical view which puts the needs of oneself above the needs of others. In Utilitarianism, everyone s happiness counts the same. There is no I before we or you , there is just what is best for everyone involved. One of the classical utilitarian s, Jeremy Bentham, used this theory to analyze legal topics and incite social reform. Bentham believed that humans were ruled by two entities pain and pleasure. According to Bentham, we actively seek pleasure while actively avoiding pain. Bentham believes that they ...govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think... (Bentham PML, 1). This comes with the basic association that actions that promote happiness (pleasure) are acceptable and actions that cause unhappiness (pain) are unacceptable. This basic assumption leads to what Bentham describes to be an act evaluation versus a character evaluation. The issue with a character evaluation, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Geertz argues that religion is based solely on the concepts of symbols and the impacts that symbols have on the practitioners of the religion. Geertz demonstrates that symbols give a meaning to life. The symbols give practitioners something to hold onto at all times. Geertz s definition of symbols and their impacts fits the use of symbols in many religious practices including the religions of the Huichol Indians and the Amish sect of the Protestant Christian church.
