Jonas Bridge Script
Group 5 Script
Jonas: We are group 5 the name of our bridge is Beam 5 .
Yarden: While creating our bridge our initial plans were much different than what our final product
was. The more we worried about the strength of the bridge, the less time we had. We started off
with the idea to have a truss bridge made of wood and cardboard. As shown here, (show picture
from journal entry), but as the project progressed our ideas continued to change.
Arielle: (show drawing) In the end we had made a beam bridge out of hot glue, cardboard and
popsicle sticks. We used the cardboard because it is a flat surface and is very light. However,
cardboard is not strong enough on it s own. We then decided to use hot glue to attach the popsicle
sticks to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We think this because the more gravel was added the more it started to bend. until it suddenly
snapped. The bridge broke more to the left side close to the platform. As you can see in this
picture ( point out picture on poster) The bridge broke because of its lack of popsicle sticks
supporting it. The cardboard alone was not strong enough. If we were to use a material like wood,
the bridge could have withheld more weight.
Sam: A real life bridge that is similar to our household bridge is the Hoffstadt Bridge. The Hoffstadt
Bridge is a truss bridge 96 miles south of Seattle Washington. (show picture)This bridge connects
Hoffstadt Creek and Hoffstadt Mountain. The Hoffstadt Bridge is 2,340 feet long, or about 712
meters. Similar to our bridge, this bridge is supported by trusses on the bottom. The Hoffstadt
Bridge also has a flat deck such as ours.
Jonas: If we had another chance to do this bridge project, I think that we would make goals to
make our bridge earlier so that we could make more improvements. On our first try we were
rushed to make a bridge because of our indecisiveness. As I said before, we ended up making a
bridge that we could not test earlier. It then happened that our bridge was very weak and did not
succeed in holding a lot of weight. If we made more time to go over our bridge, then our bridge
might have had a better strength efficiency

Atomic Bombs Were Dropped On The Japanese Cities Of...
Two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of
1945. This decision brought about many consequences on both Americans and Japanese. By the
1940s the creation of atomic weaponry became possible because of Italian scientists Enrico Fermi
s discovery of the radioactivity of uranium in the 1930s (Brinkley 638). Eventually this spread to
the United States, and it was undertaken by military. President Harry Truman issued an ultimatum
to the Japanese, demanding that they surrender by August 3 or face utter devastation. When the
Japanese failed to meet the deadline, Truman ordered the air force to use the new atomic weapons
against Japan (Brinkley 638). The problem at hand is how the Americans and Japanese dealt with
the aftermath of the atomic bombings and how it shaped these countries. The context of this
decision will also be brought up. The effects of the Atomic Bomb in Japan were debilitating, not
only was the enemy defeated but so were women, children and other civilians. Many people
questioned if the bombings were justified considered the consequences. The atomic bomb on
Hiroshima caused 80,000 deaths and the bomb at Nagasaki caused 100,000 deaths; with the effects
of the radiation continued to cause even more harm (Brinkley 639). These numbers caused shock
within the Japanese and American communities; considering this was the first time that the bomb
was used on urban populations. There was a calculated 368,259 survivors

The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace Essay
The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace
In their personal and professional lives, people can and, unfortunately, sometimes do go against
their moral and ethical standards. Ethical standards are what it means to be a good person, the
social rules that govern our behavior. Ethics in business is essentially the study of what
constitutes the right and wrong or the good or bad behavior in the workplace environment. A
business is an organization whose objective is to provide goods or services for profit. The
organization has a group of people that work together to achieve a common purpose. The moral
challenges that these men and women face each day along with a whole range of problems that
could occur, are why ethics plays such an important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Per a quote from Lieutenant Gov. Mary Fallin in Oklahoma: It s hard at times to find people that
will take the high road, and that s why we see so many of the scandals we ve seen, like WorldCom
and Enron, said
Fallin. It s not what happens to you that determines where you are in life, but its how you respond
to what happens to you. (Smith, 2005, 7)
What a valuable employee, Sue definitely took the high road and handled that dilemma with
integrity. Each person has many reasons for being ethical. Some reasons can be: inner beliefs,
habits, virtue because it is its own reward, personal advantages, it s good business, there is
approval, being an ethical person can lead to self esteem, the admiration of loved ones and the
respect of peers. There is also religion because it is believed that good behavior can please or help
serve a deity. Ethical actions can fit in with upbringing or training. Ethics starts with the individual
employee choosing the right or wrong decision.
The second ethical dilemma that our group provided was one that dealt with sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment encompasses a wide range of unwelcome sexual conduct. Per Title IV of the
Civil Rights Act of 1964 this is the first paragraph on the EEOC web page about sexual harassment:
Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a
sexual nature constitutes

The Food, Agriculture And Economic Situation Of Bangladesh...
ABSTRACT
This study aims to investigate the food, agriculture and economic situation of Bangladesh in some
details. Although the country faces various problems in economic progress since the independent in
1971, in the last forty five years the increase of food production, economic development and poverty
reduction of the country became remarkably. Bangladesh is a densely populated developing
country in the southern Asia. The Government of Bangladesh is trying efficiently to reduce poverty
of the country. In Bangladesh about 20% of the populations still live below the poverty line, heavily
undernourished with inadequate access to safe and nutritious food for a healthy life. The data of the
study were collected through the secondary sources of the country. In Bangladesh, during 2000 to
2005, income poverty reduced from 48.9% to 40.0% and 2010 to 2016 reduced from 31.50% to
20%. An attempt has been taken here to show the ways to increase food production and economic
development of the country.
Key words: Poverty, food aid, inflation, GDP, subsidies in food, economic development.

Types Of Coloration In Vertebrate
The most common type of chromatophore in vertebrates is the melanophore, which contains the
pigment melanin. There are two different types of melanin eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin
is a brownish black color, while pheomelanin is a reddish yellow; these pigments are found in the
hair and fur of animals. Examples of the expression of melanin are the sandy yellow coat of a lion,
and the tawny brown shades of fur on a mandrill, which contrast with other parts of the body that
lack fur. Albinism is an autosomal recessive disruption in the production of melanin that leaves the
animal a white color with no other hint of pigment. An additional method of coloration in
vertebrates is food consumption. Flamingos consume planktonic animals, such

Data Management, Data, Warehousing, And Warehousing Essay
There are many different areas in information systems to study. Data management, data mining, data
warehousing, information management, information security, information assurance, healthcare
informatics and bioinformatics are just a small sample of some of the different areas of study that
will be examined in this paper. Also included in this paper are answers to questions posed by the
rubric for this assignment.
Data management, mining, and warehousing all deal with data in different ways. Data management
establishes the groundwork for an organization to structure, regulate, process, and store data that
they acquire (Rouse, 2016). Data management also encompasses the creation of definitions and
standards for the acquired data which will be adhered to throughout the organization (Definition of:
Data management, 2016).
Data mining is [t]he process of finding significant, previously unknown, and potentially valuable
knowledge hidden in data (Gordon, 2007). Organizations use data mining to sift through massive
quantities of raw data in order to find patterns and relationships that will ultimately be used for
business purposes (Definition of: Data mining, 2016). Organizations mainly use data mining to get
a better idea of their customer s purchasing habits, product preferences, etc. in order to create sales
tactics targeted at a certain customer demographic (Definition of: Data management, 2016).
Data warehouses are huge repositories where data from various sources all

Essay The Role of the Gods and Fate in Virgil s The Aeneid
The Role of the Gods and Fate in Virgil s The Aeneid
Are the deeds of mortal characters in the Aeneid controlled by the gods or by fate? Aeneas must
fulfill the will of the gods, while enduring the wrath of other gods, all the while being a worthy
predecessor of Augustus and founder of the Roman people. Of course, the Trojan is successful
because he gives himself up to these other obligations, while those who resist the will of the gods,
Dido and Turnus, die sad deaths.
Juno, the queen of gods, attempts to destroy Aeneas and his men in Book I of the Aeneid. The city
of Carthage is Juno s favorite, and it has been prophesized that the race of the Trojans will one day
destroy that city. This is too much for Juno to bear as another ... Show more content on

Thanks to Neptune, though, they are only thrown off course, and Venus assures that they will not
be harmed in Carthage. At times in the Aeneid, it seems as if the story is less about the deeds of the
mortal characters than about the bickering of the gods, who continuously disrupt or manipulate
events on Earth. The one common theme, though, is that fate always comes true. Aeneas is
destined to settle in Italy, and nothing can prevent this. Jupiter sees to it that his overall plan will
come to pass by helping out Venus.
The fall of Troy was brought about because the god Minerva helped to fool the Trojans into
accepting the wooden horse. Sinon tells the Greeks, if your hands should harm Minerva s gift,
/ then vast destruction...would fall on Priam?s kingdom and the Phrygians; / but if it climbed by
your hands into Troy, then Asia would repel the Greeks (II.268 273). Minerva sends a strange
sign to confirm this story: two giant serpents rise up from the sea, devour a priest and his two
sons, and then slither up to the shrine of Minerva. The Trojans took this as a sign that they must
appease the goddess, and so they wheeled the horse into the city of Troy. Throughout the book
Aeneas is convinced that the gods are out to get him: Had the outcome not / been fated by the
gods...Troy, you would be standing yet (II.75 79); But oh, it is

Youth Culture In The Great Gatsby
Through Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby which examines the protagonist, a man looking for a
new identity, Gatsby s friend Nick Carraway observes that the protagonist invented just the sort
of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent and to this conception he
was faithful to the end (131). Gatsby who in his youth was unsatisfied with his life inherits

Gatsby to desire a higher quality of living not only for himself but also aspires to provide a
sufficient life for him and Daisy before she marries Tom Buchanan when Gatsby is fighting at war.

Youth culture s significance transcends the standard images of generational identity to stereotype
each decade s youth. The jazz age was characterized through rebellious morals and loose women.
American culture mythologized youth as a time of exploration, becoming, growth, pain, and thus,
by implication, dismisses aging as a time of stodginess, inertia, stasis; and absence of feeling
(Patricia Meyer Spacks 4). Amory Blaine and Jay Gatsby s journey in pursuit of the american
dream is hindered through their exploration of their youth. This Side of Paradise records evolving
ideas on youth that today are the norm. Not only do these novels critique outmoded Victorian
ideals of maturation, but they explore the ambiguous power that flagrant displays of youth styles
afford young people (Bruccoli 374). Amory is introduced to the American social scene when he
meets Isabelle , popular daughter, at the Triangle Club. He becomes accustomed to the american
social scene characterized by smoking, kissing, and risque people. Amory abandons the Victorian
values he is accustomed too which in turn obstructs his quest for self

Most Controversial Issues In Today s Society
Stop and frisk. One of the most controversial issues of today s society. This dates back all the
way to 1967 with the case Terry v Ohio. In this case, an officer by the name of Martin Mcfadden,
patrolling his surrounding area, noticed two African American men acting suspiciously in front of a
store on a street corner at 1276 Euclid Avenue. Mcfadden described the men to be alternately
walking back and forth and conversing while taking breaks in between. He also stated that the two
men later met up with another African Americanmale one block over and soon after, rejoined him
in front of the store once more.Officer Mcfadden believed he was witnessing what seemed to be a

I personally do not believe in stop and frisk. The policy of stop and frisk is supposed to be an
action used for suspicious activity however, it is being used for racial profiling instead. I believe
stop and frisk is just another excuse to violate and attack minorities. As stated in the article
mentioned above Why Stop and Frisk Does Not Work , african americans are stopped and
frisked 23% more times than whites and still less contraband and weapons are found on african
americans. The fourth amendment protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures. So
why target the innocent people or people who are less likely to contain weapons/contraband?
This is because they are using discriminatory practices and use stop and frisk to single out
minorities. Being black is a crime. At least that is how the system sees it. Not all law
enforcement is bad but a large portion of them have this ignorant mindset that allows them to
think and act the way they do . As an African American you re never safe. You continuously have
to live in fear. You have to watch the way you walk, talk, position your hands, look at people, etc
because anything as a black person can be seen as a threat considering our skin is already one.
Rather than fighting actual crime, law enforcement officers are stopping people just to display their
authority over you. I, as a young african american woman, could not

On Tuesday, ESPN had yet another pity party over Colin Kaepernick s unemployment, featuring
Josina Anderson and Ryan Clark. Anderson whined about how people were willing to give
Michael Vick a second chance while Clark attempted to point out the hypocrisy that the Giants
stood by kicker Josh Brown during his domestic violence dispute while fretting over the fans
reaction to potentially signing Kaepernick. This is the latest of ESPN s ardent defenses of the
failed NFL QB, ranging from questioning whether Kaepernick could sue the NFL (spoiler: he can

of this is part of ESPN s rapid fall from sports giant to a political activist organization... Show more

Kaepernick is 3 16 as a starter in the last two years. As for Clark and Anderson s comments
above, the responses are simple. Vick committed a horrible crime, yet he repented, was
genuinely sorry, and has turned his life around. Not only does he now have a family dog, he
returned to the NFL in 2009 and posted his best career quarterback ratings over the course of the
rest of his career. Hence, he was actually good at his job. This is the point Clark seems to miss.
Josh Brown was a good kicker. Greg Hardy was a fantastic defensive lineman, which is why the
Cowboys gave him a one year deal after he had missed 15 games the year before for domestic
violence. Ray Rice still can t find a job after being caught on tape punching his wife in an
elevator, but he was also passed his prime. Meanwhile, Bengals rookie Joe Mixon is only 21, and
despite being also caught on tape punching a woman, he was a top draft prospect who will likely
start for the Bengals this next season. Teams are willing to overlook a player s personal history
if he has an ounce of value, and as seen above, Kaepernick hasn t shown any the last two years.
This is what makes ESPN s crusade so frustrating. Once the pinnacle of sports entertainment,
aspiring sports analysts like myself 6 7 years ago would give anything to appear on the network.
Now the on air talent typically shows less sports knowledge than your average citizen on the street.
ESPN ignores their own quarterback metrics to feign outrage over a

Comparing Plato s Phaedrus, And Cicero
What is philosophy? It is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence.
Two men that spent their lives learning and then teaching philosophy were Plato and Cicero. In
this essay, I will look at Plato s, Phaedrus, and Cicero s, Selected Works, to show each of their
philosophies. The Phaedrus is a historical dialogue between the two characters, Socratesand
Phaedrus, about love. In this dialogue three distinctive speeches were given. The first speech
was a speech presented by Phaedrus; the original speaker was a man named Lysias. He claimed
that a man in love suffers from a kind of madness and you should not give yourself to one who is
in love. The second and third speeches were spoken by Socrates as a sort of challenge given to
him by Phaedrus. Phaedrus believed that Lysias speech was the best he d ever heard and that no

Love is a feeling of closeness to some people and to others it s a feeling of being there for a lover.
For some, true love is where you would be willing to put your life on the line for another.
Socrates describes love as an irrational desire that over comes the tendency toward right
(Phaedrus, 238 B) . Love usually just hits you and there is no one reason as to why you love that
person. It doesn t exist without all the little day to day stuff. You could probably say that love
just doesn t come over night. Socrates goes off of Lysias argument by saying, There s no truth to
that story that when a lover is available you should give your favors to a man who doesn t love
you instead, because he is in control of himself while the lover has lost his head. That would
have been fine to say if madness were bad, pure and simple; but in fact the best things we have
come from madness, when it is given as a gift of the god (Phaedrus, 244A) . Socrates then goes on

As the compass progresses along the assembly line, plastic components are snapped together.
Some plastic components move through printers, which stamp them with markings such as the
company logo, or with scale markings for use with maps. This could cause the throughput to
slow down if defected parts are discovered. The Firebird Manufacturing facility is spread over
130,000 square feet and has a capacity for producing over six million compasses each year.
Firebird Compass matches production capability to customer orders. The continuous analysis done
weekly on the resources in the plant is compared to meet the demand of the product so our
obligations are fulfilled. Firebird employs short term fixes to any imperfections in balance by
hiring extra workers during a heavy production cycle, plan a third shift for continuous operations,
approve overtime at the worker level and sub contract if necessary.
Production planning at Firebird is a key essential task with complimenting sub tasks requiring the
managers input for a successful operation. At Firebird modulating capacity is accomplished by
additional overtime and increasing the part time employees hired for the additional production
needed. Firebird has the capacity to meet the demands of the compasses that are ordered at frequent
peaks during the year. Firebird can achieve this demand with inventory buffers in the supply chain.

Frantz Fanon Decolonization
Because of the nature of the program, Frantz Fanon argues that decolonization cannot be achieved
without violence. Hence, the author claims that decolonization is always a violent phenomenon
(35). Decolonization is itself a violent program dues to the fact that colonies are created with
violence. Because of the violence which has ruled over the ordering of the colonial world, that
same violence will be claimed and taken over by the native at the moment when he surges into the
forbidden quarters (40). Therefore, the authors claim that decolonization is violent event because
these people have been colonized using force; therefore, when they decide to fight back, they will

Carnival And Calypso Dance
The West Indian Dance of Calypso has a long history. Where its origins trace back to Africa it s
become popularized in Trinidadian culture and becomes the most popular around the holiday time
of Christmas. Since Calypso and Carnival have such strong connections there is some background
information that you definitely need to know. Carnival and Calypso are part of the colonial and
post colonial history of Caribbeanislands such as Trinidadand Antigua. As early as the 18th century,
Africans, who were at the time slaves living in Antigua, celebrated Carnival. They had used these
dances as a form of communication between each other, often times this was used to mock the
slave masters without them knowing. During this time in the 18th century the French planters used
carnival times to celebrate the period as a pre Lenten celebration, which was basically a
preparation period for the coming of lent . (Hughes)
All through these carnivals involved street procession costumes, music, dancing, and feasting. The
culture continued even after the British changed the French as colonial rulers. all through colonial
instances, slaves held separate celebrations. Their Carnival practices included stick fighting,
dancing, drumming, making a song and the staging of quick plays. role playing turned into an
integral a part of Carnival and remains the case these days. Ex slaves masqueraded as White slave

Is wine good for you? In moderation and as part of an overall healthy diet, the short answer is, yes!

The recent wealth of data should give us more confidence in a cause and effect relationship, but
we are not nearly to the point of proof. It took decades and hundreds of studies before the Surgeon
General was willing to declare that smoking causes cancer.] But it has been less clear just how
alcohol works to protect the body against heart disease and death. A new study from researchers at
the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland. identifies a mechanism for how alcohol favorably
effects arterial muscle cells. According to Wilhelm Vetter, M.D., and colleagues, alcohol, when
consumed around mealtime, reduces the proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) within the
arteries. SMC growth is a key element in the development of atherosclerosis, which commonly leads
to heart attacks and strokes.
The study found that the ingestion of alcohol equivalent to two glasses of wine with a high fat
meal resulted in a 20% decrease in the growth of arterial muscle cells. Several researchers have
suggested that the apparent health benefits of wine ingested at mealtime may be due to the ability
of alcohol and other phenolic compounds in wine to counter adverse effects of fatty foods during
the critical digestive phase. Renaud has written of the positive effect of wine during meals on
platelet aggregation, finding that wine consumed with meals is absorbed more slowly and thus has
a prolonged effect on blood

The Role Of Harpies In Greek Mythology

The General Theory Of Crime Essay
Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent
criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary
determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general
theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual
possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by
educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime(1990)
essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely
accepted book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes,
ranging from murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also
highlighted, in A General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal
impulsivity. This impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors
such as smoking, drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy,
of Gottfredson s and Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most
empirically supported theory of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been
ample amounts of disapproval in relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel
that Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) failed to include the

Categorical Imperative By Immanuel Kant
The issue of moral and immoral decisions are something that challenges every person at various
points of their life. A majority of the world s population relies on their religion, and God to guide
them in making those decisions. This however does set up an argument for the issue of being able
to choose the right moral path based on intellect regardless of religionor belief in a God. Immanuel
Kants Categorical Imperative, arguably what he is best known for can be summed up for an
argument for making the right moral decision, as if they applied to everyone equally. This can be
done using a person s sense of reason, and consideration for others. Likewise these imperatives are
the moral obligations you need to follow, despite your desires.... Show more content on

I found this profound because I had come to realize that these men were being punished for the
actions of one individual. Also these men were in majority no older than me at 19, and simply
needed a job or wanted to defend their country. I felt as though there was no need to be
unnecessarily mean to them, and to treat them with such distain. It was at that point I made the
moral decision that I wouldn t treat people like regardless of what was going on around me.
Kant s concept of the Practical Imperative is that Act in such a way that you always treat
humanity, whether in your own person of another, never simply as a means but always at the
same time as an end , taking this to a modern sense is to recognize the humanity of the people
around you and recognize that other people have their own lives, goals, and deserve to be
treated as such. This also goes to not using people for your own benefit, this is regardless
whether or not they are aware of it or not. Likewise not to deceive or lie, it is a personal obligation
to be truthful, regardless of the consequences. This again can come back to the Christian belief
system in that Love thy neighbor , the irony is not lost, however with Kant s very strict Catholic
upbringing its apparent he took what he was taught and built upon it which is evident.
Kant s Kingdom of Ends, goes in hand with his idea of the Practical Imperative. This being that all
people have within themselves

The United States V. Virginia Case Study
When Virginia Military Institute (VMI) was founded in 1839, it was established as a male only
institute. At this time and even up to the mid 1970 s, most colleges and institutes were single sexed
schools. They, at that time, only wanted to teach and build young men to transform the world; not
women. The state arguably stated that women would not be able to hand the level of training
involved in going to VMI (Justia). However, once most other colleges and institutions opened
admissions, VMI still stood their ground as a male only institution. The question they then faced
was whether or not their tradition to be male only was constitutional?
The case of VMI went to the district courts, and was deemed to be a tradition and that this tradition
was accepted. However, the Fourth Circuit rejected the decision. They found the policy in which
they made admission decisions unconstitutional. In response Virginia tried coming up with a
women only institution that would equal up to VMI. They introduced Virginia Women s Institute
for Leadership (VMIL) to the Fourth Circuit. Even though both programs did not require the same
level of skill, the Fourth Circuit accepted that the two institutions were equivalent to each other
because they offered comparable educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stress Of Nursing Leadership And Management
Stress of Nursing Leadership and Management
On a daily basis, everyone experiences stress. Stressful situation without making adjustments can
effects your health and well being. For example, I worked as a charge nurse and mostly as a RN
supervisor. This job requires to use managerial skills as well as clinical expertise. The work
environment of the skilled nursing facility was mostly short staffed, lack of resources, and
overloaded. I, as a charge nurse, was expected to always be available, to be in control of all, and to
serve as role models in the field. I was the most needed person for other nursing staffs and was
demanded to make a mangier decisions frequently for an unexpected problem. In the overwhelming
situations, I have experienced that the managing role sometimes comes as the huge stressor, and it
impacts my ability of patient care and process of critical thinking. My experience with the stressful
situation caused state of imbalance in myself and the response consisted both physical and
emotional consequences in each step of my professional process. This paper will discuss the stress
among the nursing in managing position who requires leadership, its negative impact, and a strategy
to manage the stress.
Nursing is well known as one of most acknowledged stressful jobs. Beside of all the stress factors
mentioned by nurses, charge nurses or nurses in managing position strongly experience higher
stress level due to added accountability for leadership activity.

Theory Of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz
Theory of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz (UChicago)
The concept and role of property rights
It this first part, Demsetz offers a more theoretical foundation for the concepts he will use in the
following parts. The author starts defining the idea of property rights and differentiating how they
transmit the right to benefit or harm oneself or others. After, he links it with the recognition a close
relationship between property rights and externalities. The process of Internalizing such effects
refers to a change in property rights, that enables these effects to bear (in greater degree) on all
interacting persons. They become part of the economy.
The example of the military draft is used later to show how the costs of internalization have to be
higher to its gains. The lower the cost the greater the number of transactions and the degree to
which they take place.
Lastly, in this section, Demsetz defines the framework of his analysis, what would happen if
transaction costs of internalizing were zero? There are two main implications, on the first one he
states that the output mix is efficient for all players involved. Secondly, that the mix is independent
of who is assigned the ownership.

Should the U.S. build a National Missile Defense System?
What if free people could live secure in the knowledge that their security didn t depend upon the
threat of instant U.S. retaliation to deter an enemy attack?
Ronald Reagan; 1983
In his speech of March 23, 1983, President Reagan presented his vision of a future where a Nation
s security did not rest upon the threat of nuclear retaliation, but on the ability to protect and defend
against such attacks. The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) research program was designed to tell
whether, and how, advanced defense technologies could contribute to the feasibility of this vision.

It consists of a collection of sensor satellites that would obtain and track the missiles during their
trajectory path, giving the BMC2 the earliest trajectory estimate.
The third element is called the In flight Interceptor Communications System. This is the
strategically located ground system that links to the GBI for in flight targeting. Up to seven pairs
of these stations would be created. The next part, X band/Ground Based Radar, performs tracking,
discrimination, and kill assessments of incoming missiles, providing real time continuous tracking
data to the BMC2. The final part of the missile defense system is the Upgraded Early Warning
Radar. These are phased array surveillance radars, used to detect and track the ballistic missiles. By
upgrading the software of existing early warning radars, they would meet the missile defense
requirements.
It has been said that the Missile Defense System is like shooting a bullet down with a bullet This
leads one to believe that it cannot be done. If you can imagine a gun firing a bullet out of it

disparities that are taking place between police departments and African American boy/men?
According to Attorney Benjamin Crump (Truth and consequences, 2015), far too many officers
say that they felt threatened, but if not for viral video; the murder could have been swept under
the rug. He also says there is a blanket of distrust, disrespect, and indifference thrown across
Black men in America. He believes that this is the result of the many deaths at the hands of
armed police officers who claim to be afraid. According to former Police Chief Howard Safir,
(Truth and consequences, 2015), these incidents do not happen as often as the media would have us

Filmmaker Errol Morris believes that every time an unarmed black man is killed by a police officer,

Charlie Chaplin The Great Dictator Analysis
The Great Dictator made in 1940, written, produced, and directed, by Charlie Chaplin: was then a
controversial film because it exposed Nazism and anti Semitism with humor. The film is composed
of some silent film s methods such as muted gestures, and mimes, but this film was Chaplin s first
true sound film. Chaplin s film was a stroke of genius, he interprets the horrors happening in
Germany throughout WWII in an ironic but also elegant way. In the film, the main subject is Adolf
Hitlerand the rise of European fascism.
I found the film meaningful, it was a controversial topic back then. I believe the film did far greater
good than harm because it encourages independent thought. Chaplin s ability to be serious was not
limited to his humor, yet he intelligently transports the sadistic nature of the event portrayed in the
film and the monstrosities of the Holocaust. The Great Dictator , was the representation of the war
and dictatorship. I think it s a good thing to make light of something like the Nazis because it
provides one of the most effective ways to examine basic moral issues without the negative
commutation.
The Holocaust was a tragedy that occurred because of the immense power the Nazis had.
Individuals, governments, and organizations made choices that induced legalized discrimination,
prejudice, mass murder, and hatred. The film was directed in a way that allows the viewers to get
an idea of the amount of power Hitler had over Germany. Chaplin s object was

Mobile Shopping In Mobile E-Commerce
Introduction
With evolving technologies and digital innovation, mobile e commerce is rapidly growing. Mobile
devices, especially smartphones, have revolutionized the online shopping experience with time and
seems like it s just the beginning to the frontier.
M commerce is shopping through a mobile device smartphones or tablets. This experience is
becoming a habit for many consumers. According to a study among 1,000 US merchants, 16% of
them already have an established mobile shopping channel and 32% of them are on strategic phase
to start selling products through mobile within a year (Meola, 2016).
The mobile shopping is expected to grow bigger and bigger. As per the US Census Bureau and
comScore, in 2014, m commerce was 11.6% of the $303 billion USA e commerce total and
estimated to increase to 45% of the total e commerce value by 2020 (Meola, 2016).A large market
share with potential to grow into a billion dollars
Industry and constant technological advancements in Android and iOS operating systems will
transform m commerce very soon. This makes it critical to evaluate this EC initiative and obtain a
more holistic picture about shopping from a touch of a button.
Evolution of Mobile Commerce
Mobile commerce is the ability to do business transactions between two parties through a mobile
device. The underlying principle is mobile computing, a technology that enables wireless devices to

Lab Report Bacteria
Introduction:
Bacteria are among the most abundant of all organisms on earth. Some species of bacteria is
always present in every different environment the plant has to offer. For this to be possible,
bacteria are all very different from one another. This lab aimed to identify a certain colony of
bacteria, using a variety of tests at the disposal of scientists. The simplest method of narrowing
down possibilities involves the use of a compound microscope to observe the general shape of the
cells. The shapes of the bacteria can be Bacilli, Cocci, or Spirochete. This helps to further narrow
the possibilities of what the bacterial species is.
Bacteria can be further split into two different groups: Gram positive and Gram negative. A method
known as Gram staining, which detects peptidoglycan, will stain a cell purple/blue in the
presence of it and pink/red if the absence of it. This test also determines thickness of the cell wall,

The Catalase tests involves exposing the colony of interest to hydrogen peroxide to check for the
presence of the enzyme Catalase. If the bacteria contain the enzyme, exposure to hydrogen peroxide
will trigger the breakdown of it by Catalase as a defense mechanism against the harmful substance.
Catalase test positive genera include Bacillus, Micrococcaceae, and Staphylococcus, while
Clostridium and Streptococcaceae test negative (Holbrook and Leicht, 2015). The second test
administered to gram positive bacteria is the Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) test. This test involves
observing growth of the bacteria on the MSA medium, which contains very high amounts of
sodium chloride. The only strain capable of growth is Staphylococcus, which causes the medium to

Causes Of Child Labor
Golden; Human Rights We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign designed by protesters of the 1903
march for workers rights (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the President
in order to fight against the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela walked the long road in
hopes of finding freedom for all, and Melba Pattillo Bealsworked alongside eight others to help
integrate Little Rock s Central High School, strengthening her inner warrior. These three
individuals devoted their lives to causes that are imperative, and although they all had their
separate fashions of standing up, they all were fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother
Jones was a passionate person who strived to accomplish her central goal of abolishing child labor.
Mother Jones passionately tells a reporter, I love children (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones was
always there for the children that she met, and she would do anything for the children, despite the
fact that they weren t her own. She had tied the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them
while they cried, scrambled to find food for them, fought for their rights , all because she loved and
treasured the children (Pinkerton Josephson). Every day, children that worked in the textile
industry were forced to endanger themselves in order to complete treacherous assignments for little

Carlos Salazar Pursuit Of Happiness
Carlos Salazar begins Pursuit of Happiness by creating an idea of the different kinds of happiness
that exist. Salazar states in his thesis that, Happiness is temporarily most of the time but love is the
only happiness that can last the longest (1). Salazar has a roadmap included in his thesis but
throughout his essay he tends to steer off his roadmap. Salazar s main points consist of the
temporary happinessthat drugs, sleep, sex, and love contain. Although Salazar includes a
roadmap in his thesis and also clearly connects his topic to Drop City, Salazar needs to stay on
his roadmap, come up with a counter argument, and organize his body paragraphs. Including a
roadmap in a thesis is great but what is even more great is an essay that is composed by
following the roadmap that is set in a thesis. Salazar s claim is that love is a happiness that lasts
the longest in comparison to any other kind of happiness. Even though he does include reasoning
of his claim in his paragraphs, in some sections of his writing, Salazar seems to actually make the
claim that in some cases a person s interpretation of happiness is not actually happiness. They all
make people happy but is it worth being happy for the things that they do or are they just wasting
time trying to be happy (Salazar 5).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

each different topic. By creating more paragraphs for each topic instead of combining multiple
topics into one paragraph Salazar will help his readers understand his writing in a more facile

According to the Functionalist Theory, there are a number of gender inequalities that women face,
which are a product of traditional divisions in society. More specifically, for centuries men have
been known to attend to objectively rewarded tasks such as wage earning, while women attended to
more subjectively rewarded tasks such as child rearing. Although both types of labor are vital for
society s survival, the tasks performed by men have always been more highly rewarded. From
childhood, men and women are taught these traditional roles and have conformed to them.
Functionalist Theorists explain that gender roles and their inequalities have changed somewhat in
industrialized societies, however, the traditional arrangement remains in force in most societies. It
is these inequalities that have led to population problems between men and women such as the
rape of women and violence against women. In fact, women between the ages of 15 to 44 suffer
more deaths from domestic violence than cancer, malaria, and road traffic. Also, there are some
main differences in the types of health issues that men and women face that shows then gender

rates that indicate that more than one woman dies every minute of every day due to preventable
complications of pregnancy, childbirth or unsafe abortion. Other hand, men s more risky

Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction Lab Report
The objective of the experiment is to observe how a catalyst affects the rate of the
decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is generally stored in a dark container
because if it is exposed to UV lights and warm areas, it will begin to decompose its water and
oxygen since it has an unstable oxygento oxygen bond. The rate of the reaction can be observed
by placing the solution of warm deionized water and the catalyst, liquid potassium iodide, in an
erlenmeyer flask. The role of the catalyst is to speed up the reaction. After adding aqueous 3%
H2O2, the flask is quickly sealed off in order to calculate the exact amount of gas released. The
oxygen volume will travel up a plastic hose, into a burette filled with water. The oxygen will push
the water down the burette as the hydrogen peroxideis decomposing and down another hose that
leads to a syringe. By comparing the initial water volume of the burette and the final water volume,
the difference determines how much oxygen volume the decomposition released. This process is
repeated, however each step has a different amount of concentration.

So, the greatest way is to recycle the used items, use alternative energy sources instead of non
renewable sources, they should be kind to their nature and avoid the probable dieses that may
influence our nature.
One of the cleanest and basic energy sources is the solar power by which people can come out
with many of their problems. Solar energy power, which is the energy taken from the sun, have a
big usage in today s world. People in all the countries use this energy source for different cases. It
can be used for producing electricity, heating, cooking, charging, and much more usages. For
example, people in the cities and rural areas of Afghanistan use the solar energy for electricity
purposes, and in countries like japan and U.S it has a vast usage in industrial factories. This energy
is the power that can be converted in to electrical energy and is the most abundant renewable source
available. We can invert this power by modern technologies for different uses like, generating
energy, providing light, heating water, and many manufacturing uses. Furthermore, the companies

Elizabeth Catlett s Woman Resting
The exhibition Conversations: African and African American Artworks in Dialogue comprised a
series of artworks that gave a unique experience into African life and society. Two sculptures,
Woman Resting and The Family elicited further interpretation and analysis in the use of the formal
elements of colorand shape and the design principle of repetition and rhythm. Moreover, the
artwork, and to an even further extent the whole exhibition, gave way the thought of what I can
consider to familyand what relationships I should hold dear to me.
Elizabeth Catlett s Woman Resting is an in the round sculpture made of mahogany and paint. It
features a woman like figure in a sitting position. One of her hands is place on her head, her
elbow resting on her knee. The other is placed on her left knee. Another artwork of Elizabeth
Catlett, The Family , is another in the round sculpture made of marble. It features two figures,
presumably a man and a woman, merged together to create one form. On the side of this conjoined
figure, there are etchings of faces. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would have the security of a job, the white picket fence most would dream of, and, of course, a
family. Unfortunately, we must give up a lot to live a life that is centered around more than one.
The diagonal lines and, therefore, the movement of Resting Woman is missing from the structure
of The Family . That could be a sign that the independence of living with, and caring about,
oneself is gone once another entity is added to the equation of life. Instead, they were replaced
with stricter vertical lines, with complimentary horizontal lines enhancing the feeling of
stagnation that one can experience in life when a family is involved. When I viewed The Family

Is The Self Mutilation Is Characterized By Autoagressive...
Self mutilation is characterized by autoagressive behaviors without intent to die, and is not
uncommonly encountered in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 4.3% in general
psychiatric patients. The highest incidences of self mutilation have been reported in prisoners,
institutionalized teenagers with antisocial traits, and among those diagnosed with autism,
schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries [1].
Major self mutilation is a rare, severe manifestation of deliberate self harm that results in perpetual
loss of function or capacity of an organ and constitutes a medical/surgical and psychiatric
emergency[2]. Notably the act of major self mutilation usually is associated with delusions or
hallucinations [3].Auto emasculation, a subtype of major self mutilation, typically manifests in the
context of schizophrenia[4] , and presents a significant management challenge for both medical
/surgical and psychiatric providers, in part because of the lack of clinical guidelines for
pharmacological management.
Here, we describe a patient with schizoaffective disorder who presented with status post auto
emasculation in context of severe psychosis. While penile reattachment was unsuccessful, the
patient s psychotic symptoms responded well to clozapine, a third line antipsychotic medication that
has been demonstrated to be effective for treatment of aggressive behaviors [5]. To our knowledge,
we are the first to report a case of a patient

Women s Roles In The Meiji Restoration
Women s Roles in the Meiji Restoration
The Meiji Restoration marked a time in Japanese history that dealt with domestic turmoil... national
integration and unification (Part 1 Intro). They went through the process of defending against
westernization and actively taking part in international affairs. During this era, prefectures
appointed by the emperor replaced the daimyo. The population doubled and quality of life
improved. People moved towards a more urban lifestyle and by 1900, Edo was the largest city in
world. Nevertheless, in the midst of all the growth, the attitude towards women and their roles in
society remained stagnant. Japanese society treated women as subhuman instead of actual citizens

Women s roles were limited during the Meiji Restoration. Independent women were looked down
upon. They were not expected to maintain their own separate job (332). According to January
1842: Directive to the Wards , the only work suitable for women [was] sewing or laundry (1065).
If they do anything else for example, hairdressing, they were forced to change their occupation
(1065). In the event that they did have a job, women could not make a lot of money. In fact, one
instance in October 21, 1842: Injunctions to Farmers states that when farmers sought
employment and the wages increased, they said that the women were making too much money
(1117). In addition to lack of decent jobs, women were even prohibited from teaching men as
seen in the document April 25, 1842: Directive to the Wards (1090). This exhibited the idea that
men should teach men and practices taught by women to men were unnecessary (1090). This
evidence shows must always be in subservient role. She may never be above a man. The Meiji
Restoration was a time of trouble for Japan. Battles were fought and lives were lost. During this
stage, women aided by caring for warriors. In accordance with Yamakawa Misako s account, the
women s duties were to cooked rations, made bullets, and tended to the wounded (2721). They
were discouraged to fight, however. Women in battle looked bad on the country (2708).
Nevertheless, in a time of incredible need, the Aizu

The variety of prominent fast food chains we are surrounded by entice us to indulge in the same
unhealthy fast food diet if you eliminate the McDonalds factor. Although Super Size me isn t the
most accurate representation of a fast food diet, the ingredients of the processed drive thru
meals contain various similarities to a fast food diet, thus making Super Size Me partially
invalid. Dr. Mercola considered it to be a powerful illustration of the dangers of a fast food diet,
but now writer and comedian Tom Naughton has come out with the video Fat Head, which
claims the message in Super Size Me is inaccurate and very misleading. Naughton copied
Spurlock s experimental approach by eating a certain type of repeatedly for an extended period
of time. Naughton strived towards a more realistic fast food diet of the average American
individual. McDonald s was included in Naughton s experiment along with any other fast food
restaurant you would choose for lunch to simulate a much more realistic everyday diet meal plan.
Naughton was unable to get Spurlock s food log, showing exactly Spurlock ate while filming
remains a mystery weakening the validity of his argument. Although he created a successful
documentary, Naughton is a comedian; he tells jokes for a living. He s nowhere near being an
expert in anything regarding health. His logical appeal was attempting to persuade us that
Spurlock s claims were exaggerated. Our communities are being destroyed at every level and the
only way to reverse these trends is through educating our peers and not feeding children happy

How Racism Caused By Colonization, Age, And Gender Have A...
In 1958 Martin Luther King Jr. was quoted saying Hate begets hate; violence begets violence .
Unfortunately for some, the violence and hate they receive begets violence and hate deep into
themselves. For the Inuit people of northern Canada, racism presented through colonial violence
and acculturation has caused a crippling affliction. The effect of this violence has manifested itself
into various other forms of viciousness; domestic violence, substance abuse, neglect and self harm
are only a few. The perpetuation of this malicious cycle has created an exponential rise in violence
against oneself. Additionally, the process of growing up and creating an identity is extremely
difficult. Whereas, developing into an adult when faced with violence is exceptionally harder.
Many young Inuitmales succumb to this hardship. In comparison to the general population,
adolescent Inuit males have a disproportionately high suiciderate. Through an intersectional
analysis, I will examine the how racism caused by colonization, age, and genderhave caused one of
the highest suicide rates in the world.
The act of committing suicide in Inuit communities has changed drastically. Previously, an ill or
elder person would take their lives. This would be considered dying with ancient dignity as a
response to the burden they may put on their families (Kral, 2013). There were very few recorded
suicides amongst Inuit youth before the 1980 s (Working Group, 2009). The figures began to rise

The Intel Edison, a remarkable CPU designed with capabilities to support wearable technology and
regular day to day items. We choose the Intel Edison because it fulfils certain criteria which will
make our customers happy.
Its main feature is its size. At an astounding 35.5 x 25 x 3.9 mm, the Intel Edison is slightly
bigger than your average size toenail. The AR 1 needs a CPU to be small so that its weight cannot
affect the comfort of the wearer. The compact size of the CPU creates the possibility for hardware
upgrades.
Considering its size, it certainly does not slack behind other CPU s in the processing department.
Considered to be in the Pentium class (Brown 2014), the Intel Edison features a dual core dual
threaded Intel Atom CPU at 500MHz and a 32 bit Intel Quark microcontroller at 100MHz. Sure it
does not sound like the fastest processor out there but let us have a closer look into its design.

Opera Today Research Paper
Opera is just as popular as it was years ago. In the past groups of individuals used to meet up in
opera houses to watch the host perform a play or a musical. As of now most opera is played
through music cd s and DVD s, which is far less cheaper than purchasing a ticket to see a live
show. Opera today still takes place on stage and in theaters. The high cost of production can
sometimes make it not possible to have a live show which is very common in today s time.
Majority of the operasongs that are played today come from jazz, folk , and rock musicals.
Modern opera now uses electrical equipment to improve hearing and visual aid. The most common
form of opera in the 20th and 21th century is rock musicals. This type of musical is just like

Policy and Pestle Analysis
PESTLE Analysis
A PESTLE analysis for Mydin must consider all the important external factors impacting on the
company. These factors may have political, economic, social and culture, technological, legal or
environmental dimensions. These forces, although out of the company s control, may have an
impact on the success of any future plans. By considering them, a company can change direction,
build contingencies, identify new opportunities or do nothing at all. It is an important part in the
strategic decision making.

Current trend indicate that customers have moved towards one stop and bulk shopping, which is
due to a variety of social changes. Mydin have, therefore, increased the amount of non food items
available for sale. Demographic changes such as the aging population, an increase in female
workers and a decline in home meal preparation mean that Mydin are also focusing on added value
products and services.
In addition, the focus is now towards; the own label share of the business mix, the supply chain
and other operational improvements, which can drive costs out of the business. National retailers
are increasingly reticent to take on new suppliers (Clarke, Bennison and Guy, 1994; Datamonitor
Report, 2003). The type of goods and services demanded by consumers is a function of their social
conditioning and their consequent attitudes and beliefs. One example of Mydin adapting its
product mix is to accommodate an increased demand for organic products.
Technological factors
Technological factors are usually easier to spot, because new technologies involve change, and
change is always noticed. For instance, online shopping has had a major impact on Mydin s
recent success. Conversely, The change created by technological advances often lead to legal
problems, which is why legal analysis is always an important part of a PESTLE analysis.

Mission Command in the First Battle of the Marne
The First Battle of the Marne was the first major battle of World War I. Fought in September of
1914, the battle marked the end of the German advance toward Paris and the beginning of trench
warfare. The battle exhibited a number of firsts in the history of warfare, motorized movement of
troops and interception of radio communications. It indicated that the war would not be a quick
victory for Germany (Klein, 2014). Joseph Joffre, the French Commander in Chief, exhibited
ingenuity and leadership to yield a significant victory while the Helmuth von Moltke the younger,
the German chief of staff, demonstrated a failure of mission command resulting in defeat.
The Schlieffen Plan was a German battle plan to fight a two front war devised in 1905 by Alfred
von Schlieffen as the Chief of the General Staff for Germany. The plan called for the German
army to apply overwhelming force in France to capture the capital of Paris within six weeks
before changing focus to Russia. The plan intended to achieve a quick and decisive victory by
sweeping a line of armies through neutral Belgium and into France. In actuality, Helmuth von
Moltke made significant changes to Schlieffen s original plan before and during World War I
.
Ultimately, the plan ended in failure when the German advance halted at the First Battle of the
Marne (Limbach, 2014).
The advent of World War I saw the swift movement of German forces through Europe into France.

Yarden: While creating our bridge our initial plans were much different than what our final product was. The more we worried about the strength of the bridge, the less time we had. We started off with the idea to have a truss bridge made of wood and cardboard. As shown here, (show picture from journal entry), but as the project progressed our ideas continued to change. Arielle: (show drawing) In the end we had made a beam bridge out of hot glue, cardboard and popsicle sticks. We used the cardboard because it is a flat surface and is very light. However, cardboard is not strong enough on it s own. We then decided to use hot glue to attach the popsicle sticks to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As you can see in this picture ( point out picture on poster) The bridge broke because of its lack of popsicle sticks supporting it. The cardboard alone was not strong enough. If we were to use a material like wood, the bridge could have withheld more weight. Sam: A real life bridge that is similar to our household bridge is the Hoffstadt Bridge. The Hoffstadt Bridge is a truss bridge 96 miles south of Seattle Washington. (show picture)This bridge connects Hoffstadt Creek and Hoffstadt Mountain. The Hoffstadt Bridge is 2,340 feet long, or about 712 meters. Similar to our bridge, this bridge is supported by trusses on the bottom. The Hoffstadt Bridge also has a flat deck such as ours. Jonas: If we had another chance to do this bridge project, I think that we would make goals to make our bridge earlier so that we could make more improvements. On our first try we were rushed to make a bridge because of our indecisiveness. As I said before, we ended up making a bridge that we could not test earlier. It then happened that our bridge was very weak and did not succeed in holding a lot of weight. If we made more time to go over our bridge, then our bridge might have had a better strength efficiency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Atomic Bombs Were Dropped On The Japanese Cities Of... Two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945. This decision brought about many consequences on both Americans and Japanese. By the 1940s the creation of atomic weaponry became possible because of Italian scientists Enrico Fermi s discovery of the radioactivity of uranium in the 1930s (Brinkley 638). Eventually this spread to the United States, and it was undertaken by military. President Harry Truman issued an ultimatum to the Japanese, demanding that they surrender by August 3 or face utter devastation. When the Japanese failed to meet the deadline, Truman ordered the air force to use the new atomic weapons against Japan (Brinkley 638). The problem at hand is how the Americans and Japanese dealt with the aftermath of the atomic bombings and how it shaped these countries. The context of this decision will also be brought up. The effects of the Atomic Bomb in Japan were debilitating, not only was the enemy defeated but so were women, children and other civilians. Many people questioned if the bombings were justified considered the consequences. The atomic bomb on Hiroshima caused 80,000 deaths and the bomb at Nagasaki caused 100,000 deaths; with the effects of the radiation continued to cause even more harm (Brinkley 639). These numbers caused shock within the Japanese and American communities; considering this was the first time that the bomb was used on urban populations. There was a calculated 368,259 survivors ... • 5. The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace Essay The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace In their personal and professional lives, people can and, unfortunately, sometimes do go against their moral and ethical standards. Ethical standards are what it means to be a good person, the social rules that govern our behavior. Ethics in business is essentially the study of what constitutes the right and wrong or the good or bad behavior in the workplace environment. A business is an organization whose objective is to provide goods or services for profit. The organization has a group of people that work together to achieve a common purpose. The moral challenges that these men and women face each day along with a whole range of problems that could occur, are why ethics plays such an important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per a quote from Lieutenant Gov. Mary Fallin in Oklahoma: It s hard at times to find people that will take the high road, and that s why we see so many of the scandals we ve seen, like WorldCom and Enron, said Fallin. It s not what happens to you that determines where you are in life, but its how you respond to what happens to you. (Smith, 2005, 7) What a valuable employee, Sue definitely took the high road and handled that dilemma with integrity. Each person has many reasons for being ethical. Some reasons can be: inner beliefs, habits, virtue because it is its own reward, personal advantages, it s good business, there is approval, being an ethical person can lead to self esteem, the admiration of loved ones and the respect of peers. There is also religion because it is believed that good behavior can please or help serve a deity. Ethical actions can fit in with upbringing or training. Ethics starts with the individual employee choosing the right or wrong decision. The second ethical dilemma that our group provided was one that dealt with sexual harassment. Sexual harassment encompasses a wide range of unwelcome sexual conduct. Per Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 this is the first paragraph on the EEOC web page about sexual harassment: Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes ... • 8. Types Of Coloration In Vertebrate The most common type of chromatophore in vertebrates is the melanophore, which contains the pigment melanin. There are two different types of melanin eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin is a brownish black color, while pheomelanin is a reddish yellow; these pigments are found in the hair and fur of animals. Examples of the expression of melanin are the sandy yellow coat of a lion, and the tawny brown shades of fur on a mandrill, which contrast with other parts of the body that lack fur. Albinism is an autosomal recessive disruption in the production of melanin that leaves the animal a white color with no other hint of pigment. An additional method of coloration in vertebrates is food consumption. Flamingos consume planktonic animals, such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Data management, data mining, data warehousing, information management, information security, information assurance, healthcare informatics and bioinformatics are just a small sample of some of the different areas of study that will be examined in this paper. Also included in this paper are answers to questions posed by the rubric for this assignment. Data management, mining, and warehousing all deal with data in different ways. Data management establishes the groundwork for an organization to structure, regulate, process, and store data that they acquire (Rouse, 2016). Data management also encompasses the creation of definitions and standards for the acquired data which will be adhered to throughout the organization (Definition of: Data management, 2016). Data mining is [t]he process of finding significant, previously unknown, and potentially valuable knowledge hidden in data (Gordon, 2007). Organizations use data mining to sift through massive quantities of raw data in order to find patterns and relationships that will ultimately be used for business purposes (Definition of: Data mining, 2016). Organizations mainly use data mining to get a better idea of their customer s purchasing habits, product preferences, etc. in order to create sales tactics targeted at a certain customer demographic (Definition of: Data management, 2016). • 10. Essay The Role of the Gods and Fate in Virgil s The Aeneid The Role of the Gods and Fate in Virgil s The Aeneid Are the deeds of mortal characters in the Aeneid controlled by the gods or by fate? Aeneas must fulfill the will of the gods, while enduring the wrath of other gods, all the while being a worthy predecessor of Augustus and founder of the Roman people. Of course, the Trojan is successful because he gives himself up to these other obligations, while those who resist the will of the gods, Dido and Turnus, die sad deaths. Juno, the queen of gods, attempts to destroy Aeneas and his men in Book I of the Aeneid. The city of Carthage is Juno s favorite, and it has been prophesized that the race of the Trojans will one day destroy that city. This is too much for Juno to bear as another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thanks to Neptune, though, they are only thrown off course, and Venus assures that they will not be harmed in Carthage. At times in the Aeneid, it seems as if the story is less about the deeds of the mortal characters than about the bickering of the gods, who continuously disrupt or manipulate events on Earth. The one common theme, though, is that fate always comes true. Aeneas is destined to settle in Italy, and nothing can prevent this. Jupiter sees to it that his overall plan will come to pass by helping out Venus. The fall of Troy was brought about because the god Minerva helped to fool the Trojans into accepting the wooden horse. Sinon tells the Greeks, if your hands should harm Minerva s gift, / then vast destruction...would fall on Priam?s kingdom and the Phrygians; / but if it climbed by your hands into Troy, then Asia would repel the Greeks (II.268 273). Minerva sends a strange sign to confirm this story: two giant serpents rise up from the sea, devour a priest and his two sons, and then slither up to the shrine of Minerva. The Trojans took this as a sign that they must appease the goddess, and so they wheeled the horse into the city of Troy. Throughout the book Aeneas is convinced that the gods are out to get him: Had the outcome not / been fated by the gods...Troy, you would be standing yet (II.75 79); But oh, it is ... Gatsby who in his youth was unsatisfied with his life inherits pursues a wealthy lifestyle after meeting a wealthy miner , Dan Cody. This meeting spurs Gatsby to desire a higher quality of living not only for himself but also aspires to provide a sufficient life for him and Daisy before she marries Tom Buchanan when Gatsby is fighting at war. Youth culture s significance transcends the standard images of generational identity to stereotype each decade s youth. The jazz age was characterized through rebellious morals and loose women. American culture mythologized youth as a time of exploration, becoming, growth, pain, and thus, by implication, dismisses aging as a time of stodginess, inertia, stasis; and absence of feeling (Patricia Meyer Spacks 4). Amory Blaine and Jay Gatsby s journey in pursuit of the american dream is hindered through their exploration of their youth. This Side of Paradise records evolving ideas on youth that today are the norm. Not only do these novels critique outmoded Victorian ideals of maturation, but they explore the ambiguous power that flagrant displays of youth styles afford young people (Bruccoli 374). Amory is introduced to the American social scene when he meets Isabelle , popular daughter, at the Triangle Club. In this case, an officer by the name of Martin Mcfadden, patrolling his surrounding area, noticed two African American men acting suspiciously in front of a store on a street corner at 1276 Euclid Avenue. Mcfadden described the men to be alternately walking back and forth and conversing while taking breaks in between. He also stated that the two men later met up with another African Americanmale one block over and soon after, rejoined him in front of the store once more.Officer Mcfadden believed he was witnessing what seemed to be a stick up ; nuisances casing a job . The policy of stop and frisk is supposed to be an action used for suspicious activity however, it is being used for racial profiling instead. I believe stop and frisk is just another excuse to violate and attack minorities. As stated in the article mentioned above Why Stop and Frisk Does Not Work , african americans are stopped and frisked 23% more times than whites and still less contraband and weapons are found on african americans. The fourth amendment protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures. So why target the innocent people or people who are less likely to contain weapons/contraband? This is because they are using discriminatory practices and use stop and frisk to single out minorities. Being black is a crime. At least that is how the system sees it. Not all law enforcement is bad but a large portion of them have this ignorant mindset that allows them to think and act the way they do . As an African American you re never safe. You continuously have to live in fear. You have to watch the way you walk, talk, position your hands, look at people, etc because anything as a black person can be seen as a threat considering our skin is already one. Rather than fighting actual crime, law enforcement officers are stopping people just to display their authority over you. I, as a young african american woman, could not ... • 14. Np Case Study On Tuesday, ESPN had yet another pity party over Colin Kaepernick s unemployment, featuring Josina Anderson and Ryan Clark. Anderson whined about how people were willing to give Michael Vick a second chance while Clark attempted to point out the hypocrisy that the Giants stood by kicker Josh Brown during his domestic violence dispute while fretting over the fans reaction to potentially signing Kaepernick. This is the latest of ESPN s ardent defenses of the failed NFL QB, ranging from questioning whether Kaepernick could sue the NFL (spoiler: he can t) to staying stunningly silent when Kaepernick compared modern day police to slave patrols. All of this is part of ESPN s rapid fall from sports giant to a political activist organization... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kaepernick is 3 16 as a starter in the last two years. As for Clark and Anderson s comments above, the responses are simple. Vick committed a horrible crime, yet he repented, was genuinely sorry, and has turned his life around. Not only does he now have a family dog, he returned to the NFL in 2009 and posted his best career quarterback ratings over the course of the rest of his career. Hence, he was actually good at his job. This is the point Clark seems to miss. Josh Brown was a good kicker. Greg Hardy was a fantastic defensive lineman, which is why the Cowboys gave him a one year deal after he had missed 15 games the year before for domestic violence. Ray Rice still can t find a job after being caught on tape punching his wife in an elevator, but he was also passed his prime. Meanwhile, Bengals rookie Joe Mixon is only 21, and despite being also caught on tape punching a woman, he was a top draft prospect who will likely start for the Bengals this next season. Teams are willing to overlook a player s personal history if he has an ounce of value, and as seen above, Kaepernick hasn t shown any the last two years. This is what makes ESPN s crusade so frustrating. Once the pinnacle of sports entertainment, aspiring sports analysts like myself 6 7 years ago would give anything to appear on the network. Now the on air talent typically shows less sports knowledge than your average citizen on the street. ESPN ignores their own quarterback metrics to feign outrage over a ... • 15. Comparing Plato s Phaedrus, And Cicero What is philosophy? It is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence. Two men that spent their lives learning and then teaching philosophy were Plato and Cicero. In this essay, I will look at Plato s, Phaedrus, and Cicero s, Selected Works, to show each of their philosophies. The Phaedrus is a historical dialogue between the two characters, Socratesand Phaedrus, about love. In this dialogue three distinctive speeches were given. The first speech was a speech presented by Phaedrus; the original speaker was a man named Lysias. He claimed that a man in love suffers from a kind of madness and you should not give yourself to one who is in love. The second and third speeches were spoken by Socrates as a sort of challenge given to him by Phaedrus. Love is a feeling of closeness to some people and to others it s a feeling of being there for a lover. For some, true love is where you would be willing to put your life on the line for another. Socrates describes love as an irrational desire that over comes the tendency toward right (Phaedrus, 238 B) . Love usually just hits you and there is no one reason as to why you love that person. It doesn t exist without all the little day to day stuff. You could probably say that love just doesn t come over night. Socrates goes off of Lysias argument by saying, There s no truth to that story that when a lover is available you should give your favors to a man who doesn t love you instead, because he is in control of himself while the lover has lost his head. Hence, the author claims that decolonization is always a violent phenomenon (35). Decolonization is itself a violent program dues to the fact that colonies are created with violence. Carnival and Calypso are part of the colonial and post colonial history of Caribbeanislands such as Trinidadand Antigua. As early as the 18th century, Africans, who were at the time slaves living in Antigua, celebrated Carnival. They had used these dances as a form of communication between each other, often times this was used to mock the slave masters without them knowing. During this time in the 18th century the French planters used carnival times to celebrate the period as a pre Lenten celebration, which was basically a preparation period for the coming of lent . (Hughes) All through these carnivals involved street procession costumes, music, dancing, and feasting. A new study from researchers at the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland. identifies a mechanism for how alcohol favorably effects arterial muscle cells. According to Wilhelm Vetter, M.D., and colleagues, alcohol, when consumed around mealtime, reduces the proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) within the arteries. SMC growth is a key element in the development of atherosclerosis, which commonly leads to heart attacks and strokes. The study found that the ingestion of alcohol equivalent to two glasses of wine with a high fat meal resulted in a 20% decrease in the growth of arterial muscle cells. Several researchers have suggested that the apparent health benefits of wine ingested at mealtime may be due to the ability of alcohol and other phenolic compounds in wine to counter adverse effects of fatty foods during the critical digestive phase. Renaud has written of the positive effect of wine during meals on platelet aggregation, finding that wine consumed with meals is absorbed more slowly and thus has a prolonged effect on blood ... • 21. The General Theory Of Crime Essay Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime(1990) essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely accepted book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes, ranging from murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also highlighted, in A General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal impulsivity. This impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors such as smoking, drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy, of Gottfredson s and Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most empirically supported theory of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been ample amounts of disapproval in relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel that Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) failed to include the ... • 22. Categorical Imperative By Immanuel Kant The issue of moral and immoral decisions are something that challenges every person at various points of their life. A majority of the world s population relies on their religion, and God to guide them in making those decisions. This however does set up an argument for the issue of being able to choose the right moral path based on intellect regardless of religionor belief in a God. Immanuel Kants Categorical Imperative, arguably what he is best known for can be summed up for an argument for making the right moral decision, as if they applied to everyone equally. This can be done using a person s sense of reason, and consideration for others. Likewise these imperatives are the moral obligations you need to follow, despite your desires.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found this profound because I had come to realize that these men were being punished for the actions of one individual. Also these men were in majority no older than me at 19, and simply needed a job or wanted to defend their country. I felt as though there was no need to be unnecessarily mean to them, and to treat them with such distain. It was at that point I made the moral decision that I wouldn t treat people like regardless of what was going on around me. Kant s concept of the Practical Imperative is that Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person of another, never simply as a means but always at the same time as an end , taking this to a modern sense is to recognize the humanity of the people around you and recognize that other people have their own lives, goals, and deserve to be treated as such. This also goes to not using people for your own benefit, this is regardless whether or not they are aware of it or not. Likewise not to deceive or lie, it is a personal obligation to be truthful, regardless of the consequences. This again can come back to the Christian belief system in that Love thy neighbor , the irony is not lost, however with Kant s very strict Catholic upbringing its apparent he took what he was taught and built upon it which is evident. Kant s Kingdom of Ends, goes in hand with his idea of the Practical Imperative. This being that all people have within themselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The United States V. Virginia Case Study When Virginia Military Institute (VMI) was founded in 1839, it was established as a male only institute. At this time and even up to the mid 1970 s, most colleges and institutes were single sexed schools. They, at that time, only wanted to teach and build young men to transform the world; not women. The state arguably stated that women would not be able to hand the level of training involved in going to VMI (Justia). However, once most other colleges and institutions opened admissions, VMI still stood their ground as a male only institution. The question they then faced was whether or not their tradition to be male only was constitutional? The case of VMI went to the district courts, and was deemed to be a tradition and that this tradition was accepted. However, the Fourth Circuit rejected the decision. They found the policy in which they made admission decisions unconstitutional. In response Virginia tried coming up with a women only institution that would equal up to VMI. They introduced Virginia Women s Institute for Leadership (VMIL) to the Fourth Circuit. Theory Of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz Theory of Property Rights By Harold Demsetz (UChicago) The concept and role of property rights It this first part, Demsetz offers a more theoretical foundation for the concepts he will use in the following parts. The author starts defining the idea of property rights and differentiating how they transmit the right to benefit or harm oneself or others. After, he links it with the recognition a close relationship between property rights and externalities. The process of Internalizing such effects refers to a change in property rights, that enables these effects to bear (in greater degree) on all interacting persons. They become part of the economy. The example of the military draft is used later to show how the costs of internalization have to be higher to its gains. The lower the cost the greater the number of transactions and the degree to which they take place. Lastly, in this section, Demsetz defines the framework of his analysis, what would happen if transaction costs of internalizing were zero? There are two main implications, on the first one he states that the output mix is efficient for all players involved. Secondly, that the mix is independent of who is assigned the ownership. Chaplin s film was a stroke of genius, he interprets the horrors happening in Germany throughout WWII in an ironic but also elegant way. Some species of bacteria is always present in every different environment the plant has to offer. For this to be possible, bacteria are all very different from one another. The simplest method of narrowing down possibilities involves the use of a compound microscope to observe the general shape of the cells. More specifically, for centuries men have been known to attend to objectively rewarded tasks such as wage earning, while women attended to more subjectively rewarded tasks such as child rearing. Although both types of labor are vital for society s survival, the tasks performed by men have always been more highly rewarded. From childhood, men and women are taught these traditional roles and have conformed to them. Functionalist Theorists explain that gender roles and their inequalities have changed somewhat in industrialized societies, however, the traditional arrangement remains in force in most societies. It is these inequalities that have led to population problems between men and women such as the rape of women and violence against women. In fact, women between the ages of 15 to 44 suffer more deaths from domestic violence than cancer, malaria, and road traffic. Also, there are some main differences in the types of health issues that men and women face that shows then gender disparities in developed countries. • 37. Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction Lab Report The objective of the experiment is to observe how a catalyst affects the rate of the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is generally stored in a dark container because if it is exposed to UV lights and warm areas, it will begin to decompose its water and oxygen since it has an unstable oxygento oxygen bond. The rate of the reaction can be observed by placing the solution of warm deionized water and the catalyst, liquid potassium iodide, in an erlenmeyer flask. The role of the catalyst is to speed up the reaction. After adding aqueous 3% H2O2, the flask is quickly sealed off in order to calculate the exact amount of gas released. The oxygen volume will travel up a plastic hose, into a burette filled with water. The oxygen will push the water down the burette as the hydrogen peroxideis decomposing and down another hose that leads to a syringe. By comparing the initial water volume of the burette and the final water volume, the difference determines how much oxygen volume the decomposition released. This process is repeated, however each step has a different amount of concentration. The rate law for the decomposition of hydrogen is calculated by plotting the amount of volume oxygen gas released with respect to the amount of time it took for it to ... Self mutilation is characterized by autoagressive behaviors without intent to die, and is not uncommonly encountered in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 4.3% in general psychiatric patients. The highest incidences of self mutilation have been reported in prisoners, institutionalized teenagers with antisocial traits, and among those diagnosed with autism, schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries [1]. Major self mutilation is a rare, severe manifestation of deliberate self harm that results in perpetual loss of function or capacity of an organ and constitutes a medical/surgical and psychiatric emergency[2]. Notably the act of major self mutilation usually is associated with delusions or hallucinations [3].Auto emasculation, a subtype of major self mutilation, typically manifests in the context of schizophrenia[4] , and presents a significant management challenge for both medical /surgical and psychiatric providers, in part because of the lack of clinical guidelines for pharmacological management. Unfortunately for some, the violence and hate they receive begets violence and hate deep into themselves. For the Inuit people of northern Canada, racism presented through colonial violence and acculturation has caused a crippling affliction. The effect of this violence has manifested itself into various other forms of viciousness; domestic violence, substance abuse, neglect and self harm are only a few. The perpetuation of this malicious cycle has created an exponential rise in violence against oneself. Additionally, the process of growing up and creating an identity is extremely difficult. Whereas, developing into an adult when faced with violence is exceptionally harder. Many young Inuitmales succumb to this hardship. In comparison to the general population, adolescent Inuit males have a disproportionately high suiciderate. Through an intersectional analysis, I will examine the how racism caused by colonization, age, and genderhave caused one of the highest suicide rates in the world. The act of committing suicide in Inuit communities has changed drastically. Previously, an ill or elder person would take their lives. This would be considered dying with ancient dignity as a response to the burden they may put on their families (Kral, 2013).
