Phoenix Railroad City
When you hear Phoenix many things may come to mind. The heat, the large suburban population,
the Suns. Trains, however, are something that most people don t think about when they hear
Phoenix. By all means, Phoenix is not a railroad city. However, while Phoenix may not be the
railroad capital of the country, we do have a very rich history with the railroads.
The picture to your right may be new to you. It might be a familiar sight. What is it? Well, it s
obviously a train station, but which one? It s not San Diego s Union Station. It s not the Tucson or
Albuquerque Amtrak stations. Although it might be surprising to think about, this station is the
Phoenix Union Station! To those who have lived in Phoenix before 1996, when Amtrak
discontinued service, this may not be all too surprising. However, for us post 96 transplants, the
thought of an Amtrak train, and for that matter any passenger train, traveling through the Phoenix
Metro is a weird and humorous thought. Yet, for twenty years now, Phoenix has been the largest
city in the United States without passenger service. Amtrak had rerouted the Sunset Limited after
the Union Pacific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sunset Limited was leaving the metro area, passing Buckeye, at about 1:30 in the morning,
when the passengers were suddenly awoken by the derailment of the train. Emergency services
from the city of Buckeye raced to the wreck. As emergency crews arrived they found nearly a
hundred people injured and one dead. Spotted along the tracks were several notes, signed by a
group called the Sons of Gestapo . The derailment was sabotage. The FBI was called to the scene.
Investigators had found several ties were pulled up and that the track s circuit system was tampered
with so it wouldn t alert the trains in the area of damaged track. Twenty years laters, and the
investigation is still ongoing. It is said this incident may have contributed to the rerouting of the

Travis Frederick Research Paper
Even though there can be better centers, Travis Frederick is one of the best centers in the NFL
because he has so much experience as a center and makes a big impact on the Dallas Cowboys
offence. He is also one of the tallest and biggest centers in the game and plays for the best
offensive line in the NFL.
Travis Frederick was born on march 18th 1991. His football career officially started when he
attended big foot high school in Walworth Wisconsin. He was also part of the track team and
competed in shot put and discus throw on the side of football. After highschool he attended the
University of Wisconsin Madison and played for the Wisconsin Badgers Football team. He
started the season good but an ankle injury in the 2nd week of Football had him sidelined until
the last two games of the season. He started for two games and played for a total five games that
season. He was redshirted his sophomore year so he can play an extra year. He started 11 out of
the 13 games that season. He was considered the number one center in his class by many including

He started his first game and started for the rest of that season. He was one of the best rookies that
year and became the first rookie in the cowboys franchise to start all the games at the center
position. He sure did change everybody s mind as he continued this performance next season.
He improved next season and was also named to his first pro bowl in his career. Even though the
Cowboys did not do so good in the 2015 season he still did impress as he had to work with 4
different starting quarterback all with there different and personal offensive strategies which
required him to make more protection calls and be on his game. Even after he did this he still

Mystery, Irony, and Imagery in The Cask of Amontillado Essay
Missing items from Works Cited Mystery, Irony, and Imagery in The Cask of Amontillado The
Cask of Amontillado is one of Edgar Allan Poe s greatest stories. In this story Poe introduces two
central characters and unfolds a tale of horror and perversion. Montresor, the narrator, and
Fortunato, one of Montresor s friends, are doomed to the fate of their actions and will pay the
price for their pride and jealousy. One pays the price with his life and the other pays the price with
living with regret for the rest of his life. Poe uses mystery, irony, and imagery to create a horrifying,
deceptive, and perverse story. Hoping to obtain revenge, Montresor, the narrator, lures Fortunato,
one of his friends, into the depths of his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
William Doxey believes, we are told from the beginning that Fortunato s weakness is his pride in
his connoisseurship in wine. It is his pride that hooks him (266). Both Marie Bonaparte and
William Doxey believe that it is Fortunato s weakness for wine that gets him in trouble.
Montresor also mentions his rival at wines, As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If
anyone has a critical turn it is he (150). When asked about his cough, Fortunato replies, not with
courtesy, but with prideful determination: Let us go never the less (Doxey 266). Very often a
man s prideful remarks or decisions can get the best of him. It seems that Fortunato could not let
himself be outdone. There is the theory of perversity that Montresor tried to use to get Fortunato
down into the vaults. J. Rea explains, A part of Poe s theory of perversity is that we want to hurt
or kill or to bury alive someone because he has been good to us. It is an unbelievable desire (59).
She also believes, Montresor inaccurately measures Fortunato s intellect and succeeds in his plan
only through the accident of the similarity of perversity and courtesy (62). She believes that the
courtesy of Fortunato, insisting that his cough is nothing to worry about, is what lets them
continue their trip to his death. Rea states, Perversity always makes one do what he should not;

The History of Track and Field Essay
Track and Field events, also known as athletics, have progressed a great deal since their birth in
Olympus, around the ninth century B.C. More athletes and more nationalities compete in Track
and Field than in any other Olympic sport. Athletics is one of the largest attractions at the Modern
Olympics, drawing in huge crowds of spectators and creating interest at summer Olympics. Track
and Field events have come a long way since the Ancient Greek Olympic games. Many events and
techniques have been revised, added, or eliminated since the original Greek Olympics. The Olympic
motto, Citius, Altius, Fortius is describing the Track and Field events in Latin. The Latin means
Faster (Swifter), Higher, Stronger, and indicates the running,... Show more content on

In the data, which is available from that period, it has been shown that the number of footraces
was no more than six or seven per Olympic Games. This has changed greatly in the modern
Olympics. The winner of these Ancient Olympic races would be rewarded with an olive branch
crown. Another type of footrace, called the hoplite, was introduced rather late in the history of the
Ancient Olympics. The race was of about two stades undertaken while wearing battle armor
composed of round shields and plumed helmets. Racing over hurdles was not at all part of the
Greeks knowledge during the Ancient Olympics. It was established later in the modern Olympic
trials.
Another Track and Field event is the long jump. This event differed very greatly from the jumping
we see today. The jumpers would have a running start and be holding weights in their hands for
momentum purposes. The use of the weights, which were swung about during the run and jump,
caused the jumper to have a much larger distance than the athletes of the modern Olympics. In fact,
the ancient jumping events are highly controversial because of the ludicrous records found about
the distance of the jumps in ancient Greece. One record states that a contestant jumped 55 feet.
The modern record for the running long jump is near 30 feet and it seems to many track and field
experts that it would be quite impossible for anyone to jump 55 feet, even with the help of an
impetus. Some

Persky s Criticism
The judge faced criticism from the public for his decision to sentence Turner to jail for only six
months. Rather than face continuous criticism, it would be in Persky s best interest to step
down from his position as a judge. In A Judge s Recall Is Warranted for an Indecent Sentence
William G. Otis of Georgetown University Law Center mentions that regardless of how earnest
and well founded a sentence is, if the public disagrees, the judge s removal is warranted. The
reason why Judge Persky faces such criticism is because as a result of his choices, he ignored
Turner s victim s sense of security and safety. The emotional and mental scars of the victim could
not be eased because [t]here is a difference [...] between judicial independence

John Ford’s acclaimed film The Man Who Shot Liberty...
John Ford s acclaimed film The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) is well known among
cinema buffs and historians to have emerged out of a brutal, often contentious process. Tension
between the lead actors, as well as tension between the actors and the director, spawned some of
the best behind the scenes stories of on set rivalry and outright pettiness that still circulate in an
industry that is primarily built on controversy and rumor. The film itself must be regarded as a
masterpiece. This assessment is due in part to the brilliant performances by the cast and also in
part to an elegant, carefully crafted script. That said; one of the main reasons that the film
distinguishes itself above many of ford s other brilliant films is due to... Show more content on

This image is itself, an indication that the film intends to deal with a clash of ages or civilizations
within the context of American history. The train station and train are symbols for the conquering
of the West and the industrialization of America. In other words, the film expresses important
ideas about the age old theme of progress versus tradition, as well as society versus the individual.
The central question of the film is whether or not the kind of frontier justice of the West, which was
built on gun fighting and local law enforcement, was adaptable to the modern age. The character of
Ransom Ranse Stoddard (James Stewart) symbolizes the transition of American society by earning
his fame as a politician. The true frontiersman, Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), suffers a drastically
different fate. Despite being the man who actually shot Liberty Valance, Doniphon remains
unknown to fame. This is Ford s way of communicating to the audience that those who are in power
in our society are often in power through no power of their own. Also that the true spirit of America
resides in the common man, rather than in the man who is celebrated and attains social power and
influence.
Given these facts, the film can be seen as a cautionary tale considering the present day
homogenization of culture. With an increase in social conformity comes a decrease in personal
morality. This is shown by the

The Case of the Untouchable Water Carrier Essay
The Case of the untouchable water carrier Introduction:The caste system was and continues to
be a terrible reality for people in Europe and Asia. Even though it is not as prominent now as it
was before it was abolished, it still affects many people all around the world. To be born into a
status, one that you can never leave or outlive is a great tragedy. How does one come to terms
with knowing that a choice was never an option? It doesn t matter if all the laws changed today,
the fact remains that the human race is habitual: people will continue to operate based on what
they have done for years. The abolition of slavery and the caste system didn t mean that people

bank and should be reprimanded as such. However, as an MNE the bank will be aiming to keep
costs down and focus on keeping both customer and employee happy so the untouchable water
carrier will most likely be the one to feel the brunt of the reprimand. Conclusion/Managerial
Implication: As a manager at that bank Raman should have done more research on how the
lifestyle of that particular region operated compared to where he was transferring from. His
decision to hire the untouchable was not a wrong decision because, the fact still remains that the
caste system was abolished. However, if he had done his research he would have known that the
mindset of his staff was not up to par with his beliefs or the current law in regards to the caste
system. He is now in a predicament where he will either risk losing clients or renege on a
promise that he gave to Kishore by offering him the job in the first place. This is a lesson for other
MNE s as well because as they move into unknown territory they must thoroughly research the area

Pollution And Environmental Pollution
Environmental health is your wellbeing of your surroundings or conditions in which a human,
animal, or plant lives or produces. There things effect your air pollution like carbon monoxide you
can get things like asthma. Also there fresh water there different type of water depend where you
live. Finally there is way to increase your environmental health and those around you.
Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, carrying pollution emitted during
vehicle service, refueling, construction, and disposal. Additional emissions are combined with the
refini ary and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the air; secondary
pollution results from chemical reactions between toxins in the atmosphere. The accompanying are
the principal pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give smog its dark
color.
Fine particles less than one tenth the width of an individual hair give the most significant hazard to
individual condition, as they can penetrate far into lungs. PM is a leading primary pollution and a
secondary pollution from hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Diesel exhaust is a
significant donor to PM pollution.

Examples Of Inhumanity In Tuesdays With Morrie
Where would the world be without humanity? Would it be laying in ruins because of needless wars
fought? Perhaps there would be a so called master race that exterminated any person that slightly
deviated from what was deemed perfect. Maybe there would be no more humans left at all.
Humanity binds the humanrace together. The caring for other people and not just thinking about
yourself. The word is humanity, and the root of that is human. This concept is central to all our
beliefs. Just like a coin though, there is a flip side. Inhumanity, when humansdo not act like regular
humans. To be described as inhuman a person has to be extremely nefarious. These people that
commit inhuman acts upon others are treated as monsters, and by all rights are monsters. Both of
the books we read this semester dealt with humanity and inhumanity. Although one book clearly had
a lot more inhumanity in it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

affects the nervous system. Mitch is very upset about Morrie dieing. Morrie taught Mitch a lot
about life and humanity. Morrie taught Mitch how to feel, and hot to deal with emotions. Even
though Morrie is dying slowly and painfully, Morrie is staying positive. On one occasion Morrie
tells Mitch that in the mornings is when Morrie mourns. Morrie mourns the insidious disease and
mourns what is lost. After that Morrie cries if needed, and thinks about all the good things still
left in life(Albom 57). This is exactly how to balance inhumanity and humanity. People must
always look at the good in every situation. In Night the characters tried to stay positive just as
Morrie is trying to. Morrie once said, make peace with living (173). Morrie was content in dying
and held no unrealistic beliefs. Mitch believed it was wrong to take someone who had helped him

The Role Of Media In The Media
The media controls society, whether we agree with this or not. Their depiction of acts
constitutes our image of the world around us. They shape the public perceptions, and create
moral panics. Human by nature are attracted to violence, as proven [b]y age 18, it is estimated
that the average child will have seen approximately 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on
television alone (Senate Committee on the Judiciary, 1999). This shows violence is a part of our
daily lives. This is entertaining to people and therefore the media picks up on this and reports it
religiously. Stanley Cohen (1972/1980), Goode and Ben Yehuda (1994) laid out the ways in which
the media captures our attention, and capitalizes on it in many instances to push their own agendas.
This and the cause of moral panics is a repercussion of the problem frame.
The media and its portrayal of crimes are based around one idea, which leads to other problems.
This idea is the problem frame, in which the media s primary concern is capital and in order to
make capital, they need to make the news entertaining. They proceed to present a story where it is
evident, who is correct and who is wrong with just a glance (Steeves and Milford, 2015). This
usually involves talking about violent incidents or groups, such as MS 13. This framing of crime
leads to many other problems, people continually view the world as a downtrodden and violence
ridden which leads to moral panics. Cohen talked about moral panics as when a

Conformity In Today s Society
Everybody strives to survive and has a will to stay alive. This is easily achieved by attaining the
basic necessities for survival; water, food, and shelter. In Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games,
individuals have access to all of these, although they may sometimes struggle to actually come into
their possession. Even still, these are not enough to ensure survival in the world of Panem. The
Capitol uses totalitarianism to govern its people, controlling every single aspect of every single
person s life. This system brings survival to a completely new level in this society: conformity.
Suzanne Collinsutilizes her novel s characters, along with their wills to survive, to convey that
conformity is key to survival, even in the real world. To conform... Show more content on

Not conforming to society s expectations, or even just standing out in any manner, can affect an
individual and how they are treated by others. They can be seen as an outsider and could
potentially be treated in such a way that could impact them negatively, hindering their survival.
Within a group of adolescents, this can be seen through teasing. In a group of adults, this is
exemplified by constant criticism of one s actions and choices. Suzanne Collins believes that in
order to survive in the world today, you must follow social norms, to a certain degree, in order to
be happy in the long run. This is extremely relevant today, as opposed to society over twenty years
ago, as the modern age is extremely individualized. Everybody is encouraged to be themselves, but
within a set boundary of norms, which is ironic. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is an
entertaining work of fiction, yet it unveils truths pertaining to society today. Survival in terms of
staying alive is typically not an issue in our world, but survival in terms of being socially accepted
is. Suzanne Collins beliefs on conformity and survival explain that former is impossible without the
latter. Survival cannot be achieved without conforming to any degree, as depicted by the Capitol s
totalitarianism and the importance of sponsors in The Hunger Games. Be yourself, just not too

Environmental Policy And Philosophy Of Managing The...
Environmental conservation is the practice of managing the environment. Naturally the
environment is a self sustaining entity but, due to harmful intervention from man starting largely in
the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries this frail entity has suffered. In response many changes
have been enacted in attempt to preserve the environment. Many progressive conservation policies,
clubs, organizations and parks were formed in attempt to counteract the near permanent destruction
to the environment caused by American urbanization, industrialization, and western expansion.
Through the work of conservationists throughout two conservation movements the environmental
mistakes of the eighteenth and nineteenth century were overcome. The effects their work would
shape the country both politically and socially throughout the twentieth century. Conservation is the
policy and philosophy of managing the environment. Throughout American history, there have been
two major conservation movements. The first conservation movementstarted in the 1850s and lasted
for nearly seventy years. It began in response to the realization of the inalterable damage done on
the environment and natural resources by the western frontier settlers of the late eighteenth and
early nineteenth centuries. The second conservation movement, known as the environmental
movement, started in the 1960s. With an increased attention on personal improvement, physical

Anime Of Anime And Anime
Period 1/4 History of Anime
Manga and anime are a huge part in American and the Japanese culture. Anime and Manga were
once used for war, propaganda, and recruitment, but is now used for entertainment and leisure.
Anime was not just created by one man but by many working together. Anime has had a long line
of history causing it to become more and more loved throughout the years. It not only caused
Japan a great deal of money and working jobs but it also influenced more people to see the brighter
things in life. Manga was not only just important in anime s history but it was the cause of it. The
time line of huge success in anime started in 1914 with the first manga being created.
World War II was a big part in anime history with the nation being mobilized in which the anime and
manga industry evolved quite a lot. The war caused that government to force people to conform to
the government or pay a high price. Those that didn t cooperate were banned from writing, given
preventive detention, and sometimes even social ostracism. People who spent most of their lives
criticizing and judging the government did an about face and offered support to militarists. Those
who followed the government s command Were rewarded with support from their community and
rehabilitation programs. During that time the government used the few remaining artists, who were

Humming Bird Benefits
Although people enjoy viewing wildlife and hunting animals for food and fur, conflicts arise
because wild animals kill livestock, cause vehicle collisions, and damage crops. On another note,
relationships with other organism can be more than just seeing the humming bird as an eye
catching small bird. It is a benefit for the long tubed flowers because the Buff Bellied
hummingbird has its long beak and small body to remove the nectar which allows the survival of
the long tubed flower. Experiments indicated that flowers having recurved spurs deposit
significantly more pollen grains on hummingbird visitors than flowers having perpendicular spurs,
apparently as a result of greater contact between the androecium of curve spurred flowers... Show

Praying Mantis have their own benefits within a garden as do hummingbirds, but the praying
mantis does not carry a relationship with the hummingbirds. The praying mantis waits on flowers
and on feeders to capture them. Humming birds are not resistant to bees/wasp venom. They can
out maneuver a hummingbird with just one sting and can be fatal. Hawks prey on hummingbirds
due to their size advantage. Hummingbirds are typically 3 4 grams of size and can provide
nutrients to large birds. Although their size is not a great advantage they still stand tall to a hawk to
defend their habitat and offspring. Their strong manner against their huge odds is one of the
reasons that hummingbirds arouse our interest. Hummingbirds have a symbiotic relationship with
plants. They have a mutualistic relationship because they both benefit from it. The hummingbird
gets nectar from flowers which also helps the flower because it is being pollinated. Many flowers

Summer For The Gods Summary
Summer for the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America s Continuing Debate Over Science and
Religion concentrates on the Scopes trial, otherwise called the Monkey Trial, which happened in
Dayton, Tennessee in the mid year of 1925. The trial occurred in excess of a Tennessee law that
banned the educating of human development out in the open schools. The American Civil Liberties
Unionneeded to test the law, and a junior instructor named John Scopes, consented to help them.
The alleged trial of the century united the well known government official and speaker, William
Jennings Bryan, who headed the opposition to development campaign; and Clarence Darrow, who
was viewed as the best criminal protection legal advisor of the time. The two men, plus their
individual direction, clashed in the trail with the indictment in the end ready to maintain the law.
In the first segment of the book, Larson lays the basis for the trial by analyzing the socio political
connection in the United States throughout this time. While development and religion had
coincided generally concordantly throughout the mid nineteenth century, more fossil findings, the
ascent of religious fundamentalism, and expanded participation in broad daylight secondary
schools affected the ascent of the opposition to advancement development in the United States. The
development, headed by William Jennings Bryan, contended that advancement speculations were
risky and ought not be taught inside the general population school

tie Avon Barksdale to multiple murder cases. Major Rawls and McNulty argue about the case.
Major Rawls wants to get arrest warrants and charge people with murder. McNulty says this will

Lt. Daniels persuades Major Rawls to let them continue working on the case. Chapter five of

McNulty and Major Rawls have conflict in the episode regarding what to do with the Avon

and unique experience with an airline that I could ever remember. It all started out quite oddly
enough in the lobby just before takeoff. As I was checking in at the ticket counter, the
representative asked me if I wanted to play a game that could get me free round trip tickets.
quot;Sure, who wouldn t, quot; I exclaimed. As she gave me my boarding pass she said,
quot;Great, how many holes do you have in your socks? quot; Initially caught off guard, I
responded, quot;Excuse me! quot; quot; The free tickets are being given to the customer who has
the most holes in their socks, quot; she explained with a perky smile. ... Show more content on

This paper will give a historical overview of the company, discuss the ingredients to the company
success, offer some financial strengths and present a final conclusion. Section I: Southwest s History
Twenty seven years ago, Rollin King, a San Antonio entrepreneur who owned a small commuter
air service, and Kelleher, who was a lawyer at the time, got together and decided to start a
different kind of airline. They began with one simple notion. If you get your passengers to their
destinations when they want to get there, on time, at the lowest possible fares, and make certain
they have a good time doing it, people will fly your airline. And you know what? They were right.
Within those 27 years, Southwest Airlinesbecame the fifth largest major airline in America.
Today, they have flown over 50 million passengers a year to 54 cities all over the southwest and
beyond. They do it over 2,300 times a day with over 267 of the newest jets in the nation and fly
only one type aircraft; the B 737. The average age of their fleet is only 8.4 years and they own
over sixty percent of them. In May 1988, they were the first airline to win the coveted U.S.

A Comparison Of The Power Of King Henry VII And The Monarchy
Throughout the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries in western Europe, the power of monarchies
grew by their own means. The monarchy of Spain, under Ferdinand and Isabella, grew their royal
power considerably by conquering the neighboring regions of Moors, Naples, and Navarre among
others, exercised their power by the Inquisition, and expanded their empire across the Atlantic
Ocean to Mexico and Peru. In difference, King Henry VII in England unified the royal government
through marriage and consolidated the power of the English monarchy through the Court of Star
Chamber. While the two monarchies similarly expanded their kingdom through marriage and found
ways to show the power of their newly unified monarchies, the way in which Spainand England
expanded their power and showed their strength differed, as Spain focus more on their religious
and empirical power while England focused on more on their domestic power and their wealth at
this time period. After a thirty year conflict between the House of York and House of Lancaster
from 1455 to 1485, Henry Tudor who ruled England as Henry VII, was the start of the new royal
dynasty which would bring stability and power back to England. To ensure stability, he married
Elizabeth of York, unifying the House of Lancaster and House of York into one royal family. With
no outside claims to the royal bloodline remaining, Henry VII was able to increase the power and
finances of the English monarchy through various means. With the end

The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative Essay
The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative
In both The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative, the authors inspect the issue of one s
cultural identity by way of the telling of their own story, and how it has affected them. By telling
their stories as persons who have emerged themselves into a new culture, but at the same retained
vestiges of the old, Olaudah Equiano and Maxine Kingston are exemplifying a duality in cultural
identity, that is often times lost.
Before continuing, though, it is important to clarify the definition of cultural identity, at least for
this paper. One s cultural identity is the way one sees oneself in terms of the cultures and societies
that they have come from. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This personal connection to the native culture is an important part to any cultural identity, because it
provides a means of introspection, an ability to determine one s perception of oneself. The ability
to perceive oneself is important because it permits one to look at and choose to discard or retain
parts of one s various cultures into one s personal cultural identity.
However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because
he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he
was forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in
his cultural identity. These experiences include his numerous journeys on his masters ships, which
combined with his religious explorations at the time led him to desire to become an Englishman. At
the same time, they allowed him to create a broader identity, because he saw the connections
between himself and other cultures (such as Turkish and Jewish cultures of the time.)
The second crucial factor in determining the cultural identity, and is shown in The Interesting
Narrative, is the time that one is exposed to a culture. It is not difficult to determine that in Equiano
it appears his native culture had little direct impact on him. In the narrative, he makes little to no
mention of his home, his native country, or anything related to them. This

How To My Reflection On Blinn Community College
I think that this course was scheduled very well and taking a course in under two weeks has
definitely been a struggle at times trying to retain so much information yet staying focused on one
course at a time is nice. As far as improvements to make this course better, I can not think of
anything that I would change to make it better. This is my fourth online course to take through
Blinn Community Collegeand I would say that this is the best paced course and most interesting

In regards to information and readings that were assigned, I enjoyed learning about longitude,

Inequality In The Handmaid s Tale And Children Of Men
Imagine a world where it is no longer possible to procreate, imagine living each day with the
realization that the demise of humanity is soon approaching. This horrifying possibility becomes
a reality within the dystopian worlds found in the novel The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret
Atwood and the film Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Despite the outward
differences in their societies, both The Handmaid s Tale and Children of Men portray an infertility
epidemic as the cause for the collapse of civilization. A decline in birth rates in Gilead from The
Handmaid s Tale and the United Kingdom in Children of Men lead the two nations to become
xenophobic. The infertility prompts a war for resources which results in the nations development...

in Gilead, only the highest ranked civilians, the male Commanders, are allowed access to
luxuries such as cars, books, and the right to a Handmaid, a woman who is still fertile and who s

obvious hierarchy of the women within Gilead. The highest ranking women are the wives of the
Commanders, whereas the lowest ranking women are the Unwomen, which comprises of sterile
women, feminists, lesbians, nuns, rebels, and the unmarried. While the women at the top of the

Essay about Evaluating the Main Theories of Counseling
This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main
theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are
psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic.
The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher
(1856 1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in
Vienna, collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood
experiences.
The psychodynamic theory focuses on the unconscious mind. Freud s credence is that different
mental forces operate in the mind. The unconscious mind can be described as being like an iceberg.

The Id is the unconscious state of mind; it is responsible for our voluptuous and immediate
satisfaction. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also
responsible for our libido (sexual instinct).
The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of
them. This develops during the first two years of life.
The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right
and wrong.
Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other.
It involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to
behave leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue.
The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to
reduce anxiety and stress. Some defence mechanisms include; repression, displacement, projection,
denial and intellectualisation.
Techniques used by Psychodynamic therapists consist of; dream therapy (making sense of dreams
and interpretation into reasons behind them), hypnosis and free association.
While most psychodynamic theories did not rely on experimental research the methods and theories
of psychodynamic thinking contributed to experimental psychology.
Psychodynamic Therapy was the first therapy used in attempting to explain mental illness and has

Every individual within a society develops morality, either independently or with the help of other
people. For an individual to grow morally, he or she needs knowledge or background information

to make up for inadequate state aid by raising local tax rates, even as the state has continued to
make it much harder for them to accomplish this. Basically, all they want to do is handle the
budget crisis in the school districts of Texas. To analyze the successes and failures of Texas AFT
in influencing legislation is short and sweet; school systems are still under budgeted and local
taxes are still being raised to help the schools. The only break educators have received was in

The Cartographer Of No Man s Land By P. S Duffey
The Cartographer of No Man s Land by P. S Duffey is about three main things. One is war can
cause big problems in families such as separation. Another is how badly war can hurt someone
mentally. The book is also about how team working is key. I thought that this was a great book
because of how Duffey conveyed the main ideas, he wrote the book in three perspectives that
really well showed what was going on between the family members and what was going on in
characters heads. Separation of family members is a big theme in The Cartographer of No Man

The Sexual Revolution Of The 20th Century
When people learn that I practice and preach about chastity, many are taken back. It s not often
that you find a young, teenage girl unashamed in her choice to remain pure. I ve accepted that if I
m going to live a pure lifestyle, I can t expect the world to understand my decision.
And I blame it all on the sexual revolution.
Up to that point in the twentieth century, people were living in a prudish, unhealthy culture that
twisted our human sexuality into something that was looked down upon, as something to be
ashamed of. Repressing one s sexual desires simply does not work; that s not how we were built.

Monologues, inviting people to reduce their self image to their anatomy. Likewise, there is no
dignity in a society that encourages touching another person s body but not allowing that person to
touch your heart.
Chastity is not about locking ourselves up in a tower and wearing a steel belt all our days; it s
being freed from selfishness and the standards of our culture and growing in our capacity to love
authentically.
Chastity and abstinence are frequently confused with each other. Abstinence is merely abstaining
from all sexual encounters. Abstinence focuses on what you can t do and what you can t have. That
statement contradicts chastity. Chastity focuses and what can have and do have right now; a
lifestyle that brings freedom, respect, peace, joy, romance without regret. Because chastity involved
purity in many cases, some people think in means reverting to that puritan movement of sexual
repression. ON the contrary, it frees lovers up from that selfish attitude of using each other, making
them capable of true love. In fact, the Catholic Catechism states All Christ s faithful are called to
live a chaste life in keeping with their particular states of life. By states of life , the Church means
that there is married chastity and unmarried chastity.

10 Important Criteria to Choose a Pc
1. Processor (CPU)
Processor refers to CPU (Central Processing Unit) which is the brains of the computer where most
calculations take place. In terms of computing power, processor is the most important element of a
computer system. Without it, a computer cannot even boot up or running. The performance of
processors determines the speed and the performance of the notebook as well. Whether a computer
system can run smooth or not is also depend on the performance of processor.
Most of the processors of notebooks can be divided into two types, which are Intel based and
AMD based. AMD chips usually less expensive and notebooks based on them are cheaper then
Intel based notebooks. But compared to AMD chips, Intel chips consume less power so ... Show

This will let us know what upgrade potential the system has. Then, we need to look at the ways in
which you intent to use your laptop in order to determine the right amount of system memory, or
RAM needed. If you only need your laptop to perform the usual tasks of emailing, typing on word
processing, spreadsheets, etc. then a standard RAM of 256MB should be enough, which is a
common configuration on most laptops, hence you probably won t need to spend more for more
RAM. However, for storing digital photographs and videos or other multimedia contents, you
should equip your laptop with as much RAM as it can accommodate. Certainly the more memory in
a notebook system the better, but there are other concerns regarding memory in notebooks.
Notebooks are generally more restricted in the amount of memory that can be installed into a
system.
The rule of thumb that use for all computer systems for determining if it has enough memory is to
look at the requirements of the software intended to run. Pick up the boxes for each of the
applications and the OS that you intend to run and look at both the minimum and recommended
requirements. Typically you want to have more RAM than the highest minimum and ideally at least
as much as the highest listed recommended requirement.
It is best to check the requirements of the intended software to make the final decisions. This is not
accurate for all computer tasks because some operating systems use more memory than others.

Complexity Science And Systems Thinking
In the prior chapter, I established both the multiplicity and malleability of identity and its role in
conflict transformation. I will now explore the literature on complexity science and systems
thinking. More specifically, I investigate the self as a complex adaptive system to support the
transformation of self, society, and conflict. First I will look at complexity science and systems
thinking to bring some clarity and definition to the inquiry, then I will explore the sciences that
attribute the self as a system, and furthermore, as a complex adaptive system in order to illuminate
the various aspects of self that contribute to transformative processes. Complexity Systems
Complexity. Complexity theory, also known as complexity science, or complex systems, is a
unifying framework to understand how parts of a system and their relationships give rise to the
collective behaviors of a system, and how the system interacts and forms relationships with its
environment. Complexity (as I will refer henceforth for ease), identified underlying parallels in
phenomena as diverse as the rise and fall of civilizations, the human immune system, the origins of
life, the evolution of species, the workings of the human brain, the onset of psychiatric illnesses,
ecological systems, genetic selection, and the world economy. The application is prevalent in

Analysis Of Albert Camus s Myth Of Sisyphus
Among the many casualties of World War II was the surviving populace s faith in the previously
unshakable institutions they had defined so much of their life around. Formerly vaunted,
unquestionable axes of life religion, national pride, community life had been irreversibly stripped of
their unquestioned status. One would assume that the dissipation of such illusions would be up the
alley of part time philosopher and full time writer Albert Camus, who had eloquently laid out his
opinions on such human constructs in his Myth of Sisyphus. Much like the cursed king of
Greek myth, man s search for meaning in an absurd world was an endless and fruitless task,
doomed to go on forever. Abandoning reason to place one s faith in an imaginary God or
supposedly immutable calling was a worthless effort: one should embrace their own life and live
it within one s own boundaries. Paradoxically enough, the descent of the Nazi war machine upon
Europe, and with it the rejection of those leaps of faith, caused camus Myth and devoted himself
to resisting the terror of Fascism, a struggle symbolically represented in his novel La Peste (The
Plague) by the sleepy Algerian town of Oran and its struggle against a deadly outbreak. In a sense,
Camus moved past the personal and perpetual rebellion against the Absurd to confront a ephemeral
and collective threat no less existential. Unlike the lone absurd hero of the Myth, who much like
Sisyphus we must imagine to be happy even in the face of

Happiness Is A Concept Of Happiness
Webster s Dictionary defines happiness as feeling pleasure and enjoyment because of your life or
situation ( Happy ). Happiness is a generic term to describe a healthy wellbeing. The term is
unique due to everyone receiving happiness in different ways. With copious ways of reaching a
feeling of happiness, it is difficult to pinpoint a way to achieve this emotion. Many individuals
obtain happinessby helping others while others gain happiness out of damaging others. With
different methods of achieving happiness, one will also find that there are multiple outcomes of
this feeling. One can have a short burst of happiness, or a happiness that last for a long duration.
In fact, the outcome of one s happiness can define the type of person someone will be. When
happiness does not last long, one will be longing for that feeling again. Happiness is a complex
process that nearly everyone seeks to achieve on a daily basis. Happiness plays an important
role in how one lives their life in the world. Our quality of life is, for the most part, determined
by our levels of happiness. When one s happiness dips into low levels, one will struggle with
continuing on in life. Happiness brings a motivation for one to be successful in life and make the
most of their lifetime. Without happiness, several people will take a different approach to life
which is no life at all (suicide). Everyone needs happiness to bring purpose into their life. For this

  • 2. Phoenix Railroad City When you hear Phoenix many things may come to mind. The heat, the large suburban population, the Suns. Trains, however, are something that most people don t think about when they hear Phoenix. By all means, Phoenix is not a railroad city. However, while Phoenix may not be the railroad capital of the country, we do have a very rich history with the railroads. The picture to your right may be new to you. It might be a familiar sight. What is it? Well, it s obviously a train station, but which one? It s not San Diego s Union Station. It s not the Tucson or Albuquerque Amtrak stations. Although it might be surprising to think about, this station is the Phoenix Union Station! To those who have lived in Phoenix before 1996, when Amtrak discontinued service, this may not be all too surprising. However, for us post 96 transplants, the thought of an Amtrak train, and for that matter any passenger train, traveling through the Phoenix Metro is a weird and humorous thought. Yet, for twenty years now, Phoenix has been the largest city in the United States without passenger service. Amtrak had rerouted the Sunset Limited after the Union Pacific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Sunset Limited was leaving the metro area, passing Buckeye, at about 1:30 in the morning, when the passengers were suddenly awoken by the derailment of the train. Emergency services from the city of Buckeye raced to the wreck. As emergency crews arrived they found nearly a hundred people injured and one dead. Spotted along the tracks were several notes, signed by a group called the Sons of Gestapo . The derailment was sabotage. The FBI was called to the scene. Investigators had found several ties were pulled up and that the track s circuit system was tampered with so it wouldn t alert the trains in the area of damaged track. Twenty years laters, and the investigation is still ongoing. It is said this incident may have contributed to the rerouting of the Sunset ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Mystery, Irony, and Imagery in The Cask of Amontillado Essay Missing items from Works Cited Mystery, Irony, and Imagery in The Cask of Amontillado The Cask of Amontillado is one of Edgar Allan Poe s greatest stories. In this story Poe introduces two central characters and unfolds a tale of horror and perversion. Montresor, the narrator, and Fortunato, one of Montresor s friends, are doomed to the fate of their actions and will pay the price for their pride and jealousy. One pays the price with his life and the other pays the price with living with regret for the rest of his life. Poe uses mystery, irony, and imagery to create a horrifying, deceptive, and perverse story. Hoping to obtain revenge, Montresor, the narrator, lures Fortunato, one of his friends, into the depths of his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William Doxey believes, we are told from the beginning that Fortunato s weakness is his pride in his connoisseurship in wine. It is his pride that hooks him (266). Both Marie Bonaparte and William Doxey believe that it is Fortunato s weakness for wine that gets him in trouble. Montresor also mentions his rival at wines, As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If anyone has a critical turn it is he (150). When asked about his cough, Fortunato replies, not with courtesy, but with prideful determination: Let us go never the less (Doxey 266). Very often a man s prideful remarks or decisions can get the best of him. It seems that Fortunato could not let himself be outdone. There is the theory of perversity that Montresor tried to use to get Fortunato down into the vaults. J. Rea explains, A part of Poe s theory of perversity is that we want to hurt or kill or to bury alive someone because he has been good to us. It is an unbelievable desire (59). She also believes, Montresor inaccurately measures Fortunato s intellect and succeeds in his plan only through the accident of the similarity of perversity and courtesy (62). She believes that the courtesy of Fortunato, insisting that his cough is nothing to worry about, is what lets them continue their trip to his death. Rea states, Perversity always makes one do what he should not; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The History of Track and Field Essay Track and Field events, also known as athletics, have progressed a great deal since their birth in Olympus, around the ninth century B.C. More athletes and more nationalities compete in Track and Field than in any other Olympic sport. Athletics is one of the largest attractions at the Modern Olympics, drawing in huge crowds of spectators and creating interest at summer Olympics. Track and Field events have come a long way since the Ancient Greek Olympic games. Many events and techniques have been revised, added, or eliminated since the original Greek Olympics. The Olympic motto, Citius, Altius, Fortius is describing the Track and Field events in Latin. The Latin means Faster (Swifter), Higher, Stronger, and indicates the running,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the data, which is available from that period, it has been shown that the number of footraces was no more than six or seven per Olympic Games. This has changed greatly in the modern Olympics. The winner of these Ancient Olympic races would be rewarded with an olive branch crown. Another type of footrace, called the hoplite, was introduced rather late in the history of the Ancient Olympics. The race was of about two stades undertaken while wearing battle armor composed of round shields and plumed helmets. Racing over hurdles was not at all part of the Greeks knowledge during the Ancient Olympics. It was established later in the modern Olympic trials. Another Track and Field event is the long jump. This event differed very greatly from the jumping we see today. The jumpers would have a running start and be holding weights in their hands for momentum purposes. The use of the weights, which were swung about during the run and jump, caused the jumper to have a much larger distance than the athletes of the modern Olympics. In fact, the ancient jumping events are highly controversial because of the ludicrous records found about the distance of the jumps in ancient Greece. One record states that a contestant jumped 55 feet. The modern record for the running long jump is near 30 feet and it seems to many track and field experts that it would be quite impossible for anyone to jump 55 feet, even with the help of an impetus. John Ford s acclaimed film The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) is well known among cinema buffs and historians to have emerged out of a brutal, often contentious process. Tension between the lead actors, as well as tension between the actors and the director, spawned some of the best behind the scenes stories of on set rivalry and outright pettiness that still circulate in an industry that is primarily built on controversy and rumor. The film itself must be regarded as a masterpiece. This assessment is due in part to the brilliant performances by the cast and also in part to an elegant, carefully crafted script. This image is itself, an indication that the film intends to deal with a clash of ages or civilizations within the context of American history. The train station and train are symbols for the conquering of the West and the industrialization of America. In other words, the film expresses important ideas about the age old theme of progress versus tradition, as well as society versus the individual. The central question of the film is whether or not the kind of frontier justice of the West, which was built on gun fighting and local law enforcement, was adaptable to the modern age. The character of Ransom Ranse Stoddard (James Stewart) symbolizes the transition of American society by earning his fame as a politician. The true frontiersman, Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), suffers a drastically different fate. Despite being the man who actually shot Liberty Valance, Doniphon remains unknown to fame. This is Ford s way of communicating to the audience that those who are in power in our society are often in power through no power of their own. Also that the true spirit of America resides in the common man, rather than in the man who is celebrated and attains social power and influence. Given these facts, the film can be seen as a cautionary tale considering the present day homogenization of culture. With an increase in social conformity comes a decrease in personal morality. Humanity binds the humanrace together. The caring for other people and not just thinking about yourself. The word is humanity, and the root of that is human. This concept is central to all our beliefs. Just like a coin though, there is a flip side. Inhumanity, when humansdo not act like regular humans. This and the cause of moral panics is a repercussion of the problem frame. The media and its portrayal of crimes are based around one idea, which leads to other problems. This idea is the problem frame, in which the media s primary concern is capital and in order to make capital, they need to make the news entertaining. In Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games, individuals have access to all of these, although they may sometimes struggle to actually come into their possession. Even still, these are not enough to ensure survival in the world of Panem. The Capitol uses totalitarianism to govern its people, controlling every single aspect of every single person s life. Within a group of adolescents, this can be seen through teasing. In a group of adults, this is exemplified by constant criticism of one s actions and choices. Suzanne Collins believes that in order to survive in the world today, you must follow social norms, to a certain degree, in order to be happy in the long run. This is extremely relevant today, as opposed to society over twenty years ago, as the modern age is extremely individualized. The monarchy of Spain, under Ferdinand and Isabella, grew their royal power considerably by conquering the neighboring regions of Moors, Naples, and Navarre among others, exercised their power by the Inquisition, and expanded their empire across the Atlantic Ocean to Mexico and Peru. In difference, King Henry VII in England unified the royal government through marriage and consolidated the power of the English monarchy through the Court of Star Chamber. While the two monarchies similarly expanded their kingdom through marriage and found ways to show the power of their newly unified monarchies, the way in which Spainand England expanded their power and showed their strength differed, as Spain focus more on their religious and empirical power while England focused on more on their domestic power and their wealth at this time period. However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he was forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in his cultural identity. These experiences include his numerous journeys on his masters ships, which combined with his religious explorations at the time led him to desire to become an Englishman. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also responsible for our libido (sexual instinct). The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of them. This develops during the first two years of life. The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right and wrong. Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other. It involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to behave leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue. The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to reduce anxiety and stress. • 30. Interest Groups in Texas Essay In this essay I will compare and contrast the different legislative agendas of various interest groups involved with the Texas Government. An interest group (also called an advocacy group, lobbying group, pressure group, or special interest) is a collection of members that are determined to encourage or prevent changes in public policy without trying to be elected. The essay will discuss the four kinds of interest groups, trade, professional, single and public, as well as provide one detailed example of each type. It includes examples from the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, Texas AFT, MADD and TexPIRG interest groups, which are just a few of the many groups in existence out, but it provides an idea of what different types of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Texas AFT wants to influence the legislator because the school districts have been left to try to make up for inadequate state aid by raising local tax rates, even as the state has continued to make it much harder for them to accomplish this. Basically, all they want to do is handle the budget crisis in the school districts of Texas. To analyze the successes and failures of Texas AFT in influencing legislation is short and sweet; school systems are still under budgeted and local taxes are still being raised to help the schools. The only break educators have received was in 2006 with surplus dollars tax swap for which the bill is now belatedly coming due. The third interest group of topic is a single interest group called Mothers Against Drunk Driving, also known as MADD. A single interest group is a group of persons working on behalf of or strongly supporting a particular cause, such as an item of legislation, an industry, or a special segment of society. (Answer.com) Mothers against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a non profit organization seeking to stop drunk driving, support victims of drunk driving, prevent underage drinking, and push for stricter alcohol policy overall. • 33. The Cartographer Of No Man s Land By P. S Duffey The Cartographer of No Man s Land by P. S Duffey is about three main things. One is war can cause big problems in families such as separation. Another is how badly war can hurt someone mentally. The book is also about how team working is key. I thought that this was a great book because of how Duffey conveyed the main ideas, he wrote the book in three perspectives that really well showed what was going on between the family members and what was going on in characters heads. Separation of family members is a big theme in The Cartographer of No Man s Land because Angus enlists as a cartographer to go find Ebbin (Angus Brother in law) who is MIA just before the Battle of Saint Eloi Craters in 1916. Angus is not hired as a Cartographer though even as an artist with a great ability for art, instead he is put in the front and has to fight to find out about Ebbin. It s not often that you find a young, teenage girl unashamed in her choice to remain pure. I ve accepted that if I m going to live a pure lifestyle, I can t expect the world to understand my decision. And I blame it all on the sexual revolution. Up to that point in the twentieth century, people were living in a prudish, unhealthy culture that twisted our human sexuality into something that was looked down upon, as something to be ashamed of. Repressing one s sexual desires simply does not work; that s not how we were built. (Remember that whole made from love, created for love thing?) Chastity is not about locking ourselves up in a tower and wearing a steel belt all our days; it s being freed from selfishness and the standards of our culture and growing in our capacity to love authentically. Chastity and abstinence are frequently confused with each other. Abstinence is merely abstaining from all sexual encounters. Abstinence focuses on what you can t do and what you can t have. That statement contradicts chastity. Chastity focuses and what can have and do have right now; a lifestyle that brings freedom, respect, peace, joy, romance without regret. Because chastity involved purity in many cases, some people think in means reverting to that puritan movement of sexual repression. In terms of computing power, processor is the most important element of a computer system. Without it, a computer cannot even boot up or running. The performance of processors determines the speed and the performance of the notebook as well. Whether a computer system can run smooth or not is also depend on the performance of processor. Most of the processors of notebooks can be divided into two types, which are Intel based and AMD based. AMD chips usually less expensive and notebooks based on them are cheaper then Intel based notebooks. But compared to AMD chips, Intel chips consume less power so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will let us know what upgrade potential the system has. Then, we need to look at the ways in which you intent to use your laptop in order to determine the right amount of system memory, or RAM needed. If you only need your laptop to perform the usual tasks of emailing, typing on word processing, spreadsheets, etc. then a standard RAM of 256MB should be enough, which is a common configuration on most laptops, hence you probably won t need to spend more for more RAM. However, for storing digital photographs and videos or other multimedia contents, you should equip your laptop with as much RAM as it can accommodate. Certainly the more memory in a notebook system the better, but there are other concerns regarding memory in notebooks. Notebooks are generally more restricted in the amount of memory that can be installed into a system. The rule of thumb that use for all computer systems for determining if it has enough memory is to look at the requirements of the software intended to run. Pick up the boxes for each of the applications and the OS that you intend to run and look at both the minimum and recommended requirements. Typically you want to have more RAM than the highest minimum and ideally at least as much as the highest listed recommended requirement. It is best to check the requirements of the intended software to make the final decisions. This is not accurate for all computer tasks because some operating systems use more memory than others. ... More specifically, I investigate the self as a complex adaptive system to support the transformation of self, society, and conflict. First I will look at complexity science and systems thinking to bring some clarity and definition to the inquiry, then I will explore the sciences that attribute the self as a system, and furthermore, as a complex adaptive system in order to illuminate the various aspects of self that contribute to transformative processes. Complexity theory, also known as complexity science, or complex systems, is a unifying framework to understand how parts of a system and their relationships give rise to the collective behaviors of a system, and how the system interacts and forms relationships with its environment. Complexity (as I will refer henceforth for ease), identified underlying parallels in phenomena as diverse as the rise and fall of civilizations, the human immune system, the origins of life, the evolution of species, the workings of the human brain, the onset of psychiatric illnesses, ecological systems, genetic selection, and the world economy. However, in the United States, ever since women s suffrage, all women s rights have been increasing steadily. One privilege that men have had in the past, active and supported participation in intercollegiate sports, has also been opened up to women through Title IX, part of an amendment to the 1964 Civil Rights Act. • 38. Analysis Of Albert Camus s Myth Of Sisyphus Among the many casualties of World War II was the surviving populace s faith in the previously unshakable institutions they had defined so much of their life around. Formerly vaunted, unquestionable axes of life religion, national pride, community life had been irreversibly stripped of their unquestioned status. One would assume that the dissipation of such illusions would be up the alley of part time philosopher and full time writer Albert Camus, who had eloquently laid out his opinions on such human constructs in his Myth of Sisyphus. Much like the cursed king of Greek myth, man s search for meaning in an absurd world was an endless and fruitless task, doomed to go on forever. Abandoning reason to place one s faith in an imaginary God or supposedly immutable calling was a worthless effort: one should embrace their own life and live it within one s own boundaries. Paradoxically enough, the descent of the Nazi war machine upon Europe, and with it the rejection of those leaps of faith, caused camus Myth and devoted himself to resisting the terror of Fascism, a struggle symbolically represented in his novel La Peste (The Plague) by the sleepy Algerian town of Oran and its struggle against a deadly outbreak. In a sense, Camus moved past the personal and perpetual rebellion against the Absurd to confront a ephemeral and collective threat no less existential. Unlike the lone absurd hero of the Myth, who much like Sisyphus we must imagine to be happy even in the face of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
