Essay On Play
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay On Play" presents a unique challenge. The theme itself is
broad and multifaceted, encompassing various interpretations and perspectives. Crafting an essay
requires delving into the complexities of the subject matter, exploring its historical, cultural,
psychological, and sociological dimensions.
One of the difficulties lies in striking a balance between providing a comprehensive overview of
the concept of play while also offering insightful analysis and original ideas. Play is not a
monolithic concept; it encompasses a wide range of activities, from children's games to artistic
performances, from leisurely pastimes to structured sports. Navigating this diversity requires
careful research and thoughtful reflection.
Furthermore, the topic demands a nuanced understanding of human behavior and cognition.
Exploring the significance of play in child development, for instance, involves delving into
theories of cognitive development and socioemotional learning. Similarly, examining the role of
play in adult life necessitates an understanding of its implications for creativity, stress relief, and
social interaction.
Moreover, writing an essay on play requires addressing its cultural and historical dimensions.
Play is deeply embedded in cultural practices and traditions, reflecting societal values and
norms. Analyzing how play manifests across different cultures and historical periods adds
another layer of complexity to the essay.
Lastly, synthesizing diverse perspectives and scholarly literature on the topic poses a challenge.
Play is studied across various academic disciplines, including psychology, sociology,
anthropology, education, and leisure studies. Integrating insights from these disciplines while
maintaining coherence and clarity in the essay can be demanding.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Essay On Play" entails navigating a complex
terrain of interdisciplinary perspectives, cultural nuances, and psychological insights. It requires
meticulous research, critical thinking, and creative synthesis to offer a comprehensive exploration
of the subject. However, with dedication and scholarly rigor, it is possible to craft an engaging
and informative essay that sheds light on the multifaceted nature of play.

How Chinese Dominated Sports Played the Role of...
The amusement parks played a nostalgic role amongst the Chinese Singaporeans for
their total entertainment experiences. However, in Gay World Amusement Park, its
indoor stadium is sentimental to many Chinese Singaporeans. Over the years,
Singapore had advocated towards being a world class sporting arena, especially with
the hosting of Youth Olympic Game in 2010 and the opening of the new Sporting
Hub this year. To see the development of sports over the years, this paper tries to
understand how Chinese dominated Sports such as Basketballand Table tennis played
the role of entertaining the Chinese community between 1970s and 1980s.

They provided a communal platform for the multi dialect Chinese community to
come together for leisure.
Interestingly, the introduction of the amusement parks in Singapore got influenced
from China in the early days when amusement parks were originated from Shanghai
(Chan and Yung, 2005). This demonstrates the connection between the Chinese
Singaporeans and the Chinese community from Mainland China. In addition, it is
mesmerizing to scrutinize how the introduction of the amusement parks were well
accepted by the local community, through transformation and localization of the
parks for the multi cultural Singaporeans.
Gay World Amusement Park
Gay World Amusement Park was opened in 1937 by George Lee on a plot of land
between Geylang and Mountbatten Roads (Thimbuktu, 2011). Unlike the other two
amusement parks, Gay World Amusement Park was a sporting arena. It was
famously known for its octagonal shaped indoor stadium, known as Gay World
stadium or Geylang Indoor Stadium, in which it was the largest sheltered stadium in
Southeast Asia (Omar and Rahman, 2005). According to the photograph (Figure 1)
from National Archives of Singapore, the satellite imagery of the site showed a
prominent octagonal shaped ring situated in the amusement park. In addition, from
the imagery, the site labelled with a letter F was where Gay World Hotel located.
Gay World Hotel was located at the opposite of the Amusement park.

A Pregnant Woman With Cancer
A pregnant woman diagnosed with cancer is a very rare case in medicine.
Nonetheless, this case still presents itself in the field of medicine. Approximately, 1 in
1000 pregnant women are affected by cancer ( Cancer During Pregnancy ). Conflicts
that pin maternal health versus fetal health have come to an attention grabbing point
in our society. The pregnant woman legally has the right to accept treatment that will
harm the unborn child. Still, it becomes a moral issue whether she owes it to her
unborn child to refuse treatment in order to avoid fetal harm and deliver a healthy
child. For the sake of argument, this paper will predominantly deal with pregnant
cancer patients faced with the dilemma between refusing chemotherapy which may...

By saving one human life, another is harmed or even terminated. This is obviously
not a simple problem. Many nuances come into play. There is a chance that if of
both the mother and the baby to live happy and normal lives after the chemo. The
doctor s morals come into play; will the doctor directly harm another human life in
order to save another or will the doctor exercise his medical paternalism to force
chemotherapy onto the pregnant women in order to save her life? How aggressive
the cancer is and whether, if left alone, the mother can deliver the baby
prematurely in order to ensure the baby s safety before undergoing chemotherapy.
Will the cancer, if left untreated, spread to the baby and directly affect the baby s
development? As one can see, this is a very tedious and complicated problem and it
is not one that has a correct answer. This is a moral question about how the world
ought to be. Personal beliefs and practices play a huge role in each individual s
answer to this difficult question.
To start, knowing the background of the situation is critical to understanding the
argument. In 1973, Roe vs. Wade was the Supreme Court case that made abortion
under certain circumstances legal in the United States ( History of Abortion in the
U.S. ). This also meant that women in the US could now make choices such as those
stated out above. The judges determined that the unborn child was not a human with
rights, but a clump of cells that was part of the
George Seurat Essay
Impressionism takes the moment at hand and depicts it with light and color. George
Seurat was influenced by Impressionism using modern subjects and urban leisure
scenes. He used color characterizing of Impressionism but also made arrangements
based on color theory. Seurat wanted to capture all the colors that interacted to make
their own appearance which differed in thought to Impressionism of putting colors
next to each other to create colors that blended optically. Seurat helped move
Impressionism into Post Impressionismby developing a systematic structured way of
painting.

The way the sun pours down on the people, the rest of the canvas basks in the sun
whereas the shadows are a darker green hue on the lighter green grass. The way the
sun is portrayed, it looks as if it s mid afternoon. Seurat s pointillism shows the light
coming from the left onto the people and objects. The trees show the special
blending effects of the colors. To the left of the painting, the use of white creates a
light and as the eye moves to the right, it blends into the color of the greens of the
trees. Here, Seurat is placing white and green next to each other. The brushwork of
the painting is dotlike with the dots varying in size and shape. These individuals dots
blend together into one scene.
The painting s perspective is to the left with the people all looking that way toward
the river. The people in the front of the painting are closer to the eye. The woman in
the front and that man walking with her are the biggest figures in the picture. These
sizes help balance the artwork. Lines were mostly avoided with the use of shading
for a softer effect.
Seurat s painting is one of the most reproduced paintings. Initially, pointillism was
not received well as this new painting style was like nothing else and the general
public did not receive it well. A Sunday on La Grande Jatte was the first painting to
be painted entirely in pointillism which changed the way art was viewed from

An Essay On Yosemite National Park
I just came back from a camping trip all the ways from Yosemite Nation Park at
central California s, feral Nevada, the mountain range in the US. It was an amazing
trip and I had learned a lot from it. Mostly, I had been awarded that Mother Nature
had created us amazing scenery and left us only one mission, which is to watch
over her creation, in order for it to be last forever. Firstly let me make a brief
introduction about Yosemite National Park. Yosemite National Park had been
created in 1864 and has been the acknowledgement by UNESCO as world heritage.
It is about 3 million kilometres square large, moreover, 95% of it is wilderness.
There are five major vegetation zones which are chaparral / oak woodland, lower

Yosemite National Park you might ask? First and foremost, because of its unique
and spectacular granite cliffs and mountains that had been existent for millions of
years. Granite is a rock that is lightweight and typically used in building, therefore,
it is very valuable. So forth, as we got tonnes of this wonderful rock create an
imposing landscape and so we should protect it. One great fact, do you know that El

Advantages And Disadvantages Of SOA Project
Abstract: In the last few decades SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) has become
the new trend in the IT industry. Many organizations tend to migrate to SOA in order
to cope with the rapidly changing business. Effort estimation of SOA projects has
become a real challenge to project managers due to the limited literatures addressing
this issue. The traditional effort estimation techniques do not fit SOA projects
entirely, as SOA has unique characteristics were not addressed by the traditional cost
estimation approaches. These characteristics include: loose coupling, reusability,
composability and discoverability. On the other hand, SOA cost estimation
approaches are still immature and can t be used in real life projects, as they are more
guidelines... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

AUS SMAT Framework:
AUS SMAT Framework ‎was developed by NICTA organization‎‎[7]. It
aims to develop a framework for scope, cost and effort for SOA projects. In this
framework the SOA project is decomposed into its constituent services. Each service
is classified to its type either: service mining, service development, service
integration or application development. Each service type has its own specific
activities, templates, cost factors and cost functions. The overall cost of the project
will be a summation of the cost of its constituent services.
Divide and Conquer (D C) Approach: The Divide and Conquer
approach‎‎‎ ‎[5] was inspired from the divide and conquer algorithm
that is used to solve complicated problems. This cost estimation approach not only
takes the advantage of composability nature of services but also solves the
complexity problem of SOA. The whole project is broken down into services; the
cost of each service is estimated. The overall cost of the application is the summation
of the cost of the component services ‎‎
The Bibliography Of Heady Lamarr
Part 1: The Bibliography of Heady Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Maria Eva Kiesler in Vienna, Austria on November
9, 1914 to Emil and Gertrud Kiesler. According to several sources Hedy was
extremely spoiled by her father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her
love of scientific exploration, conversely her mother Gertrud was reportedly much
sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family, Hedy s goal was always to
be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she dropped out of
school to join the theater. It s important to note that the theater was a well respected
well attended media outlet in Vienna at that time, the culture of Vienna was accepting

This is how Hedy gained the knowledge necessary to work with George Antheil in
the development of the Secret Communication System . The biggest issue for
Hedy while she was married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she
described her marriage to him as Being kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually
had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is where she eventually met up
Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to America, change
her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career.
Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy
denied to use it; stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already
over packed ships. But Hedy had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on
a campaign to sell war bonds through the influence of her celebrity status. After
which she continued her film career for a total of 33 movies [3], raised three
children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more times. Hedy
eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically
enough she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with
her family via a cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create.

Argument Essay On Abortion
Abortion Debate
Abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy by choice. A U.S Supreme Court
case on January 22, 1973(Roe v. Wade) ruled that unduly restrictive state regulation of
abortion is unconstitutional. Although this court case essentially decriminalized
abortion, the morality behind it is still heavily questioned 44 years later. Movements
such as pro life and pro choice have both made strides in converting their beliefs into
legislation. However despite the legal progress both sides have made, abortion
continues to be an ethnically divisive topic.
A PEW Research Center survey stated that, 40% of americans believe that abortion
should be illegal in all or most cases. The mission statement of a major pro life
organization named National Right to Life (NRLC) says, The mission of National
Right to Life is to protect and defend the most fundamental right of humankind, the
right to life of every innocent human being from the beginning of life to natural death.
The Pro Life Action League believe that unborn infants have the same constitutional
unalienable rights as any other human being.
Many opponents for abortion cite religious reasons as the basis for their arguments.
A PEW Research Center survey stated that, 70% of evangelical protestants believe
that abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. In addition, 44% of Catholics
also believe that abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. One pro life
organization, Pro Life Action League, said that
Bush Administration Effects On Women s Rights
Bush Administration s Affects on Women s Rights Gender equality, especially in
regards to women s rights, is a primary concern of many for the upcoming election.
Throughout American history women have always faced an inferior placement in
American policies. Even though recently liberal ideals have been placed to ensure
more rights for women, such issues still plague society. For example, in America,
statistically, a womanmakes seventy seven cents for every dollar a man earns. To
gain social, political, and economic equality of the sexes, it is the role of the
government to give attention to and cultivate a strategy to target these individual
issues. Such issues were further fueled during the eight year long Bush

The global gag rule denies U.S. funds to nongovernmental organizations if they

these foreign organizations to follow his Christian fundamentalist agenda. The non

Because he enacted this law, women in these underprivileged nations would not have
the right to have any decision regarding their reproductive health. Ultimately they
would turn to illegal ways to get abortions or contraceptives that could potentially
damage their health. The global gag rule ironically implies that the Christian

I Stand Here Ironing, an Analysis Essay
I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen is a short story that talks about a handicapped
child. Emily had to struggle a whole lot on her short life, but at the end she proved to
be a very strong child. Tillie Olsen s characterization of Emily shows a strong female
protagonist who overcomes numerous odds: loneliness, humbleness, vulnerability,
and her disability.
The story is based on a child named Emily that has a physical disability. Emily lived
in a family of five children. She always had a reason why we should stay home
(Olsen 601). Emily is lonely. When she was a toddler, she was left in a day care so

not have any envy towards her sister Susan, because she was so much different in
many aspects. The difference of the age did not interfere. Emily was always willing
to play and teach her sister new things. They shared so many things and enjoyed the
company of each other. Their mother sometimes would keep Emily home so they
could spend time together. Emily would take advantage of her illnesses, so her mom
would keep her home.
Emily is very vulnerable mostly because of her appearance. She tormented herself
enough about not looking like the others, there was enough of the unsureness, the
having to be conscious of works before you speak, the constant caring what are
they thinking of me? Without having it all magnified by the merciless physical
drivers (Olson 603). Emily is a skinny, fragile, and sick child, and in the outer
world, other kids without values would point her out. Emily is always insecure
about what she says, or does in front of others. The insecurity of not being able to be
her own person is always on her mind.
Emily spends time with her mother at night time. She makes
Augustine s Confessions By John Augustine Essay
In the book Augustine s Confessions, there were multiply themes in the story which
made the book great. One theme of Augustine s Confession is the problem which
many Americans face today. That is evil. Evil is everywhere in the world. Augustine
lost his mistress, mother and even his own son in the book. He had to also figure out
why godis punishing people with these action. So found out the answer to the evil,
Augustine ask why is God good and still allows suffering to exist. Augustine found
out that evil because of the free willthat people have. God lets human pick what to
do with their lives and the evil comes from the choices which you have decided.
For example, a pregnant mother decides to drink alcohol while carrying her baby
around. When the baby is finally born, the baby has problems with earing, talking,
or even speaking. This is the evil choice which the mother had made. There are
many kinds of evil and one of them are natural evil. Natural evil is a disease which
another human has and it spreads around town. For example, people during the
winter time have the flu. The flu spreads around town and soon enough, everyone
will have it. This is a natural evil because you didn t cause it. Another example of
natural evil is the black plague. The black plague spreads all over Europe and
killed about 30 to 60 percent of Europe. The black plague was started in China due
to the workers not cleaning up there shop. Soon enough, it was death of 350 million
people. It is said to
The New Technology in Google and Microsoft
With the growth of the Internet, and the popularity of Software as a Service, many
applications that have traditionally been used offline have moved into the cloud.
Companies providing on demand service through the Internet have reinvigorated one
of the most iconic pieces of computer software, the productivity suite. Two such
providers are Microsoftand Google. Through their Office 365 and Google Apps
services, respectively, businesses can leverage the benefits of cloud without having to
worry about the large upfront cost that productivity software used to incur. Microsoft,
an industry leader with their Office suiteof software products for over two decades,
now offers much of the same functionality through the Internet with Office 365.
Whereas their products would previously cost over a hundred dollars per user up
front, Microsoft offers Office 365 for as little as $5 per user per month. Some of
the features that it includes are business class email, web conferencing, a public
website, file sharing, shared calendars, and web versions of the most popular
components of Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) ( Compare Office,
n.d.). The company also offers, for a small amount more, the ability to get access to
its desktop based applications as well. This makes it an attractive option for those
companies that may still be transitioning to the cloud, or for those who still rely on a
particular part of the Office suite (Access, Publisher, etc.). In contrast, Google is

The Augustinian Theodicy Of Augustine Of Hippo
The Augustinian theodicy, named for the fourth and fifth century theologian and
philosopher Augustine of Hippo, is a type of Christian theodicy designed in response
to the evidential problem of evil and suffering. It attempts to explain how an
omnipotent and omnibenevolent God could exist amid evidence of evil in the
universe.
According to Augustine, the universe was originally free from sin due to God
creating the world perfectly, as He is both omnipotent and omnibenevolent
according to Christian belief. This means He both wants to and has the ability to
create perfection. Since it is a fact of the created universe that God has called all
things into the universe ex nihilo, and did so perfectly, suffering was absent from
the world. Evil did not exist before the sin of angels and humans, as it first came into
existence when angels, followed by humans, abused their power of free will and
turned away from the person who had gifted them with it, God, their creator.
Therefore Augustine states that evil is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Augustine compares the presence of evil in the universe to the colour black in a
black and white painting. Without the black in the painting, we would not be able
to appreciate the beauty as we would not be able to see the art, due to there being
no contrast. Augustine says without the contrast of evil in the universe, we would
not be able to appreciate the good and beauty, as there would be nothing to
compare them to. Therefore the presence of evil in the universe according to
Augustine is not necessarily a bad thing, as it gives us the ability to see the
perfection originally made by God. Additionally evil could serve a cause, as facing
suffering allows us to develop traits such as courage and compassion which assist us
in getting back to God and gaining eternal life in heaven as we can prove ourselves

Smoking And Nicotine Addiction
Smoking is addictive both physically and psychologically. The physical addiction can
traced to the nicotine in each cigarette. The psychological addiction is, in its own
way, just as bad. Smoking becomes second nature, like breathing. It seems hard to
quit.
Stress is the main factor which trigger the smoking in the beginning and after when
person addictive to it.
In the central nervous system, nicotine causes apparent and immediate relief of
anxiety through neurochemical changes. When tobacco inhaled, nicotine enters the
brain within ten seconds to stimulate dopamine, acetylcholine, and norepinephrine.
Through these actions, nicotine quickly induces pleasure, improves mood, and
enhances concentration and focus. Each cigarette provides hundreds of rapidly
fleeting nicotine hits that in turn cause short bursts of euphoria. The subjective

Holden Caulfield Banned
Should The Catcher in the Rye be banned from being taught at high schools? J.D.
Salinger wrote this novel about a 16 year old named Holden Caulfield. Holden is
your not so average teenager. He is more of a woe is me kind of teenager. Holden
has two siblings and one dead sibling He goes to expensive private schools, but
flunks out of them because he doesn t apply himself. The main part in this book is
when Holden takes a three day vacation in New York City to get away from Pencey
Prep and to let his parents cool off after they get their letter about Holden flunking
out of Pencey. The vacation is only three days long, but seems to be a lot longer
than three days. There are a lot of places in this book that are extremely controversial.

Holden gets drunk multiple times in the book and he smokes quit a bit. Keep in
mind, Holden is 16 years old and the drinking age limit is 18 back in this time. He
gets away with drinking illegally. His smoking is legal, but is not a good influence
on sophomores in high school. This book makes it seem like it is okay to do
illegal things and to smoke. Smoking is unhealthy and no one should do it.
Drinking illegally isn t okay and could lead to bad things. This is also making it seem
like it s easy to get away with undeage drinking.
The last controversial thing is Holden is constantly lying and using bad language.
He says the f word, goddam, hell, etc. so many times. He lies about who he is, his
name, where he s from, etc. He is making it okay to lie and cuss. Even if everyone
does it, he does it so much it s not very good influencing on high school students.
He talks like a sailor which could lead people that look up to Holden, to start to cuss

Argumentative Essay On Cyber Hate Crime
Social media is used to connect people throughout the whole world. While There is
love and support aplenty online, these same platforms are also used to target
innocent people based on things such as religion. A 15 year old girl posted a
photograph of herself online, and without her consent, it was posted on a website.
Because she was wearing a hijab on, she received hateful comments. She is an
innocent child subjected to a world of hate for no reason other than she is Muslim
(Awan, Imran and Zempi, Irene 2016). As if it weren t terrible enough people are
being targeted online, the public goes after Muslims in the street, too. In Ukrainian,
Mohammed Saleem was murdered by a neo Nazi, Pavlo Lapshyn. Pavlo Lapshyn
killed another human being and tried to bomb a few mosques, attempting to start a
new race war . (Vikram Dodd 2013). Sadly, Pavlo isn t the only case where people
are targeted for being Muslim. Muslim humans are attacked online and offline
because they are wrongly afflicted with terrorists.
Online and offline hate have significantly increased for Muslims, especially for
visible Muslims. Offline hate crimes deal with physical attacks, offensive graffiti,
damage to property, harassment, and verbal attacks. Cyber hate crimes are hard to
define, as they come in a variety of descriptions; however, despite debates over how
to put an explanation to them, they consistently target a person or a group because of
religion, gender, race, sexual orientation, disabilities and

Essay on Dominicans In America
Dominicans In America
The Dominican Republic or also known as La Republica Dominicana is a small
island that is 18,816 square miles, located off the coast of Florida. The Dominicans
of this land share their island with the Haitians. The island has a subtropical climate,
mountains, rolling hills, and fertile river valleys. The economy is mainly dominated
by sugar, which still earns much of the country s foreign exchange despite
establishment of varied light industries and the development of nickel, mining and
tourism. Coffee, cocoa, tobacco, and bananas are also a major export crop. But,

Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is a prion disease characterized by the degeneration of the

Computer Systems Working Around Us
Today, as a society, we all seem to accept the trend of doing multiple things at the
same time because of the limited amount of time we are given on a daily basis. We
find ourselves juggling many tasks at once; whether it is time with family, work,
or even a favorite hobby, we all have to find time to manage all of these things
while maintaining some kind of balance. It can be very difficult today to find time
to do all of these things and one way to make it a lot easier is by using computers.
While scientifically proven that it is impossible for our brains to do multiple tasks at
the same time, we still seem to try. But now that we have so many amazing mini
computer systems working around us, we can now do the multi tasking that our
hearts desire. Our computers can do many processes simultaneously, allowing us to
do many things that we want at the same time. But how do these computers handle
all of these processes and applications at the same time? Well, in short, computer
memory. To describe the way that memory works, I will be explaining a few of the
many components of computer memory and how it is managed. Memory
management is the act of managing computer memory. The topics that I will include
in the paper will consist of the following: Dynamic memory allocation, Virtual
memory, memory leaks and stale references, fragmentation, large memory and cache
systems.
The essential requirement of memory management is to provide ways to dynamically

The Harm in Low Carb Diets
Low carb diets are basically anti carbohydrates diets. Low carb diets make you eat
fewer carbs than most doctors would suggest. While the experts recommend that
adults get about half of their calories from carbs, low carb diet limits the eating of
carb to10 percent of daily calories consumed. Before going anti carb, lets know
what they are. Carbs are very important nutrients in food. They are the body s main
energy source, supplying energy for everyday activities and making sure
everything from your muscles to brain is working properly. Not all carbs are
nutritious. Good ones are processed and are full of vitamins and minerals, for
example: whole grain pasta and bread, veggies, and fruit. Bad ones come from
foods like white bread and sugary sweets, which are full of calories and don t have
a lot of nutritional value. There are many many low carb diets. the most popular
ones include Atkins, Dukan, Eco Atkins, Medifast, the Paelo and the South beach

The Perception Of A Social Group
The ability to manipulate perception when it comes to social movements or
collective action is key. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who
are participating as well. It not only determines what a social group will do to
invoke change, it will also affect how a society will agree or disagree with the
change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as framing, and is more
than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read from this
week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument
that it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something
as problematic and need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that
specifies what needs to be done, and finally a call to rational engagement in
corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point highlighted the importance
of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any given society
are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does
collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not
opportunity is the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing
of framing laid out by Snow and Benford also brings into question whether or not
collective action is a choice rather than a response. In the each of the three steps
mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be a framing of a situation
as problematic and
A Day For Celebration
It was the Day of First Song, and celebrations echoed throughout Adiha. Her
residents, supporters of the Church, packed Civic Square and its adjacent streets.
The mingling of their cheers and jeers created a festive melody that was
contagious to all. White fluorescent orbs lined every street and hung from every
doorway, fighting off nights impending darkness in recognition of Aeskar. Elm
Tower watched over the people, a bright white beacon in the fresh spring air. And
this was fitting, as it was a day for celebration. A visitor entering the city would
likely be swept up by the crowd, add their own melody to the Katharos songs, and
drink merrily through the next morning. They might even lose themselves in the
cities joy, having drained one too many mugs before stumbling through an inn door.
And they would not be judged for their befuddled state, as it was indeed a day for
celebration. It was on days of celebration like these that people forgot. They might
cherish time spent with friends, laugh at their own blunders, and even chance at love.
But the greatest joy of the night was in forgetting the small hassles that plagued
everyday life. The luxury of discarding these weary thoughts, even for a single day,
was priceless. AndorianAges did not know this luxury. He looked down on the
crowds from Elm Tower. Shackled by iron chains and reputation, wishing that for one
moment he could forget the troubles that consumed his life. And so he stared,

Commodification Of Halloween
With the increase in reinterpretations of death and Halloween symbols, two
fundamental things occurred, the mass commodification of Halloween and a
decontextualization of the symbols of death. In 1978 the premiere of Halloween,
directed by John Carpenter, directly placed the holiday itself in relation to horror
and gruesome death, more so than the introduction of gothic horror ever did
(Rogers 110; Khapaeva 58). The introduction of explicit horror, according to
Rogers, created. a coded language that enables authors and invites their audiences
to explore their fears, hidden desires, and anxieties (110). This established a
creative space in which fantasy and dissociation could be merged creating a
popularization of death without actually dealing with the reality of death itself. It
created a space where the narrative of horror and death could be controlled and
regulated, through established archetypes. This directly contrasted the collective
psyche of the 1970s and 80s in the United States, which was dealing with the
ramifications of the AIDS epidemic (the worst epidemic since Polio), and an
increase in social, religious, and political conservatism (Khapaeva 78). Through
horror movies and Halloween, social anxieties could be dealt with in an a political
and creative way, while still maintaining the sanitized separation of hospital and
culture.
In the contemporary period, Halloween s popularity has increased. Personal
expenditures on Halloween have drastically increased since the 2000s, to create a
multi billion dollar industry, which has expanded the cultural awareness and practice
of Halloween (Khapaeva 57). However, this expansion has led to the commodification
of Halloween, by equating it with consumer culture. This has significant implications
for the cultural conception of death as it equate previously potent symbols with cheap
goods. But this might have been by design, as Grider argues that the mass
commercialization of Halloween is another way in which collectively western culture
can control the potentially dangerous incursion of the supernatural world in our
everyday lives (10). Through the ownership of material goods associated with
Halloween, the narrative and context of the concepts are further

However, when Russell found himself unable to answer certain questions of a sceptic,
he, himself, passed over into a frigid unbelief. It was then that he met the Seventh day
Adventists, and his faith in Christianity, and especially in the Second Advent, was
restored. 1
Russell had no formal Bible training, but borrowed and built upon various
teachings that were popular at the time. In 1879 Russell started his own magazine
(now known as the Watchtower) to promote his doctrines. Russell s sensational
end of time predictions drew many people and the organization grew. An example
of this would be Russell s prediction that in 1874 the second coming of Christ
would come. This prediction he borrowed from N. H. Barbour who believed that
Christ would return invisibly to the work in 1874 and that 1914 was the year the
world would be destroyed and the Millennium would begin. The Millennium is a
1,000 year period, beginning after Armageddon, when Christ will rule over the
earth. During this time, the dead will be resurrected, humankind will attain
perfection and paradise will be restored. Russell wrote a new Bible for the
followers of his day, which he claimed came to him directly from God. Russell
claimed that to read and understand the Bible you needed an interpreter. He claimed
to be the only one with the truth and outwardly condemned all other Christian
religions. This caused other ministers to work at exposing Russell s

James Baldwin s Critique of the Social Condition James Baldwin was an African
American writer who, through his own personal experiences and life, addressed
issues such as race, sexuality, and the American identity. Notes of a Native Son is
one of many essays that Baldwin wrote during his lifetime. Within this essay,
Baldwin talks about when his father died and the events that revolved around it.
His father s death occurs in the early 1940s, where oppression and racism were still

around Baldwin s father s death, there are many riots and beatings taking place. This

Immediately after the sentence, Baldwin describes the racial tension that exists
between the African Americans and the Whites. The people of Harlem as well as
other cities are waiting for that one injustice or catalyst that will push their
tolerance over the top and lead them to violently fight back through riot and
protest. In one sentence, Baldwin manages to switch gears, from one that is very
private to a description of the general feeling felt among the people living in
Harlem. Baldwin, being a part of the community, takes his own feelings of waiting
and applies it to a general picture, where a lot of people were in fact waiting as
well. Baldwin continues on and says that blacks were being oppressed everywhere.
...Negro girls who set upon a white girl in the subway because...she was stepping
on their toes. Indeed she was, all over the nation (73). Not only does this portray the
ever growing tension felt among African Americans in a certain area, it expresses
the tension felt across the nation. African Americans everywhere were still
continuously looked down upon, causing agitation, which was the current social
condition blacks and whites faced. Soon after, the catalyst that ignites riots in
Harlem, which was foreshadowed earlier in the essay, takes place. The riots begins
when a rumor spread claiming that a white police officer shot a black soldier in the
back, which wasn t the truth at all (81). The way

Great Expectations The novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens as well as
its adaptation from the PBS s mini series explore the universal themes of
contentment and discontentment as well the idea of loss. Both the novel and the
movie adaptation start off with Pip in the cemetery near the marshes meandering
about his parents and five siblings graves. The reader and viewer receive the sense
that he s either contemplating the loss he has endured or perhaps contemplating
what his life could have been like if things had gone differently. Bernard Paris
describes this scene, as follows, His sense of the precariousness of existence is
epitomized by the graves of his five little brothers and is intensified by Magwitch,
who threatens to cut his throat if he does not stop crying and to eat his heart and

Semiotics In Romeo And Juliet
This essay will pose as a semiotic analysis of a famous quote from Shakespeare s
Romeo and Juliet. Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go
unnoticed. Many quotes that are used by business professionals are quotes from
famous writers such as Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the phrase
Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall. Resonated with me and is
the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and ideas that are signs in
the quote are wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in the
quote because each wordpossesses an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic
analysis of the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be provided as it relates to
business professionals and what the phrase signifies when used in that context.
Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature
decisions in any given situation because each decision that is made can excel or
hinder future endeavors. The pros and cons should be weighed before committing,
in order to make a sound decision. Without proper information and guidance, one is
essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor may be necessary
because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and can
give advice on what you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal.
Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and
goals. It takes a great amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off
overall. Great things aren t accomplished overnight. From a business standpoint, it
means that you must work your way to the top. The process may seem slow, but the
progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the outcome. There is a stigma
that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful, things must be
accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of
success in some cases.
Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings
with our longing for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process
without a second thought. People tend to rush the process of life to attain temporary
happiness which

Despite all the similarities these films have, I feel the revenge fantasy in
Inglorious Basterds is more justified than Django Unchained. I agree with Bonilla s
point that movies are a reflection of the time period of which it was made and
Django Unchained was intended to serve that role. Although Django Unchained
had a strong anti slavery message, many critics felt the film did not address the
racial issues that are still present in America. The revenge plot in Inglorious
Basterds was unequivocally anti Nazi, with its plethora of burned swastikas and
slain Nazi s; Tarantino made it very clear the enemy. However, the message was
not as clear in Django Unchained. Yes, there is a strong anti slavery message, that
is made clear through the plot and anti slavery motifs, but is the film attempting to
address more? Tarantino does not make this clear at any point during this movie

pupils. However, as stated in Technology in the Classroom... There is so much
information available that students can soon become overwhelmed or, worse yet,
completely duped by Web sites that speciously appear to be accurate and honest
sources (Braun 1997).[3] Teachers, when instructing students to use the Internet,
should show them how to search for material and critically review it in order to
ensure that it is factual and honest. Another option is Webquest, an inquiry based
curriculum design for online problem solving that has become very popular.[4]
Teachers who wish to utilize these resources can do so by having students look up
laws and court decisions online and create presentations or recreate the court cases in
order to illustrate their comprehension of the material, as well as show their thoughts
on the subject. Students today have options available to them that were never
available before, both in the classroom and in the library.
Peoria Notre Dame Case Study
It has come to the attention of select students that a dilemma exists within the
guidelines for out of uniform days within the halls of Peoria Notre Dame High
School. A substantial amount of high school girls, particularly in the freshmen class,
ignore a particular rule banning the donning of tight yoga pants during the school
hours of 7:55 to 3:05. An idea to amend the misconduct has been developed. In
analyzing the situation, it is apparent the legging perpetrators are primarily freshman
girls with a high sense of self entitlement. The underclassmen believe they have the
right to undermine the guidelines of the Peoria Notre Dame handbook. The
prestigious establishment placed these regulations to ensure modestyamongst all
pupils. The problem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the court, a trial will occur where select administration will decide upon the guilt
of the student, the severity of the crime, and the duration of the punishment. The
teacher who witnessed the violation, the Dean of Students, and the Principal of
Peoria Notre Dame must all be present at the trial. The teacher will first present the
case to the Dean and Principal. If the student has any objections to the information
presented, she may bring forth her concerns at the given time. The judge will then
inquire about any other important details that may influence the severity of the
punishment. For example, if the female has worn a longer shirt (which reaches at
least mid thigh) with the leggings the sentence may be lessened. The pupil will then
leave the court to discuss the final verdict. If the student is found guilty, she will be
sentenced to wear a trash bag for a certain amount of time, which will be determined
by the judge. If the length of punishment is substantial enough, the student may be
allowed to decorate their trash bag to their individual taste. Peoria Notre Dame is

3. Geography was a primary factor in the shaping the development of the British
colonies in North America Assess the validity of this statement for the 1600 s.
THESIS: During the 1600 s many colonies in North America was beginning to
form. Geography such as where ports where and assessable to westward lands
helped in the shaping of these British colonies. SUPPORT/ANALYSIS: Located by
ports: All of the Southern colonies that were located by waters were the best
location for ports. These ports would bring in trading goods and would easily allow
these colonies the export there goods anywhere along the waters, especially the
major trade partner England. This helped to shape these select colonies by labeling
them as primarily trading colonies; therefore they would be making the most amount
of money amongst the colonists. Westward expansion: On the other hand there were
a select few new colonies that were located away from ports, thus allowing them
only to product agricultural goods, making money mainly from the businesses that
needed to export them. This shaped these colonies because this also allowed them to
move westward. Although these lands were filled with Indians, colonists didn t care;
this gave them more land to produce crops and to make more money. C. Multiple

Yentl Analysis
Barbra Streisand as the producer of the film Yentl is a musical with some logic;it s
like a sudden awakening once it hit the turning point as the viewer watches the film

Barack Obama s Presidential Run
I recently stumbled upon a short video published by The New York Times in 2008
during the pinnacle of Barack Obama s presidential run. This video, entitles Being
Multiracial in America, featured a group of young, mixed race College students
elated that the United States would potentially elect a man that grew up in a blended
culture comparable to their own. There was this conspicuous desire shared among
these students to live in a society understanding of the intricacies of one s racial
identity. None of these students wished to identify themselves as only one of their
races. They wanted to eliminate this illusion of racial choice. To these young people,
one person shouldn t choose what sole racethey are because they exist within this
category of both . The complexity of their own genetic makeup was something they
felt would be eradicated by aligning themselves with only a percentage of
themselves. Seeing a man run for president who made it known to the country that
his mother was White and his father was Black overjoyed these individuals. There
was an astounding sense of hope that Barack Obama provided for this group. Their
prospect was that once the people of this nation understood that mixed raced
individuals can acknowledge themselves as such, we would be on our way to
eradicating this intense racial divide, leading to so much violence and anger, that
exists within our country. Eight years later, this country is now at the brink of saying
farewell to Obama.
Applying A Gender Based Violence Approach Essay
Applying a gender based violence approach, this paper will explore life realities for
a Moroccan women s center serving women from 18 to 70 years of age, mothers,
educated or not, living in a rural and urban environment and, for too many of them,
their horrific predicaments. Primary research methods will integrate participant
observation and semi structured interviews (DeWalt and DeWalt 2002) with females
victims of gender based violence(GBV) and the center staff members. This study
aspires to determine what aspects lead Moroccan women to seek assistance,
categories of assistance available, challenges Moroccan women face and future
opportunities for recognition and socio legal support.
Results denote a lack of social support to women victim of violence, lack of social
and economic support for the center we will rest our research on, degraded service
capacity, and the practice of deceit in interactions between women and staff
ingrained in a cultural notions of shame. Future prospects for program development
and sustainability will also be discussed. This ethnographic proposition we will
submit hopes to promote a richer understanding of gender based violence in local
contexts through the investigation of women victims experiences of gender based
violence in Moroccan society and how these dramatic encounters impact the reality
and capabilities of social service and legal provision.

Effects Of Media On Social Media
Media is something that we use, see, and hear every day, whether we notice it or not.
The media surrounds our society in many ways; through social media platforms,
magazines, television, advertisements, etc. the media has been always around. The
study of media and its effects on society is based on the belief that mass
communication has effects on individuals, society, and culture (Perse). The media
continues to become more and more relevant in our culture. Many people in our
society today use the media daily. Also, there are many studies about social media
and its effects on us. The media affects the way we view body image in a negative
way. The media has affected people for many years. It has been around since people
have been printing newspapers and broadcasting on the radio. Particularly, the media
has an effecton youth and there are many studies and articles that research how the
media affects youth. One example is, in the article, Social Media and Body Image
Concerns: Further Considerations and Broader Perspectives written by Robert J.
Williams and Lina A. Ricciardelli:
Social media are the main form of mass media being used by the youth of today, and
researchers in the U.S. and Australia have commenced studying how these may be
affecting body image concerns. However, the processes underlying how social
media may influence young people s body image appear to be no different from
underlying other forms of mass media. Research is needed to more fully evaluate
youth s experiences of online appearance culture and how this may foster both
negative and positive peer interactions (Williams and Ricciardelli 389).
This quote discusses how youth today is affected by the media and their body
image. Media has a direct effect on body image because the media projects
unrealistic body goals. This then can result in people developing anxiety or
depression. Also, in some cases, people could develop eating disorders in order to
look like how people in the media are broadcasted. The media has such a strong
influence on people every day since we are always around it. In another article, it
states, Diana Vancura argues that the media emphasize appearance over talent, which
negatively affects the body image
The Issue Of Juvenile Delinquency
The issue of Juvenile Delinquency has always been of great concern to society and
due to the perceived notion that the nation s future depends on the development of its
youth, understanding the factors that cause them to commit criminal activities will
help identify what leads youth to turn towards crimeand the circumstances that
influence them commit criminal behaviour (Shoemaker, 2010). Modern culture is
constantly bombarded with the belief system of economic wealth and success, of
achieving cultured goals and success in order to attain materialistic wealth, status and
the accumulation of money to live that lifestyle. However not everyone have equal
opportunities to obtain these goals through legitimate means and are either hindered
or blocked due to various circumstances that do not serve them well (Hoffmann,
2011). There are several factors that help understand and link juvenile delinquencyin
Urban Areas. Some of these factors include, Social Disorganization, Unemployment,
Poverty
In the research article by Chung, Mulvey Steinberg (2011), two main factors were
taken into account in order to better understand the study. The first study investigated
included how poor school academic outcomes and low levels of achievements or
dropouts had an effect among juvenile offenders. The second study investigated
whether neighborhood factors had an influence on poor academic outcomes resulting
in juvenile offenders. The data obtain for the study
Analysis Of V For Vendetta By James Mcteigue
It s a title with a strong letter used as somewhat like a alliteration to exaggerate the
ideas within this film, V for Vendetta , directed by James McTeigue, this defines
what the true meaning of injustice which seems to be over exaggerated through
action, sci fi and thriller scenes. V for Vendetta is a type of film where in a future,
where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the government, a shadowy
freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman. This film
shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that
you have been given an opportunity if you chose to view it with a different set of
eyes. And yet there will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense
of security operating in the belief systems that harbor fear, anger and hate rather than
letting go to face the very emotions that enslave them. This film uses fancy quotes or
catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around the main character(s),
especially the protagonist V and to the eventuality, Evey at the end of the story.
Special effects and the fanatical costume visuals (with the famous Guy Fawkes mask)
all is used intently to make the audience with a tint of exhilarance, to make them
think, what does this mean? What is the idea that V is trying to show in injustice?
Through elements found in the film I ve found that,...... Point 1: Atmosphere Firstly,
it has the aim to illustrate the dystopia of a world where

CURRENT ISSUES ON CAPITAL MARKET
The Capital market all over the globe experienced crisis which started in United
States of America in 2007 following the collapse of subprime mortgage. The
bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in September 2008, which led to the collapse of the

Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis
As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone
of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of
time one s past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and
every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our
judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain
way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions,
emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In
the book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world
through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very
eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other
characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous
experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the
reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which
perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the
reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an
individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding
factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we
experiencecome to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be
encountered after one

However, in Gay World Amusement Park, its indoor stadium is sentimental to many Chinese Singaporeans. Over the years, Singapore had advocated towards being a world class sporting arena, especially with the hosting of Youth Olympic Game in 2010 and the opening of the new Sporting Hub this year. To see the development of sports over the years, this paper tries to understand how Chinese dominated Sports such as Basketballand Table tennis played the role of entertaining the Chinese community between 1970s and 1980s. They provided a communal platform for the multi dialect Chinese community to come together for leisure. Interestingly, the introduction of the amusement parks in Singapore got influenced from China in the early days when amusement parks were originated from Shanghai (Chan and Yung, 2005). This demonstrates the connection between the Chinese Singaporeans and the Chinese community from Mainland China. In addition, it is mesmerizing to scrutinize how the introduction of the amusement parks were well accepted by the local community, through transformation and localization of the parks for the multi cultural Singaporeans. Gay World Amusement Park Gay World Amusement Park was opened in 1937 by George Lee on a plot of land between Geylang and Mountbatten Roads (Thimbuktu, 2011). Unlike the other two amusement parks, Gay World Amusement Park was a sporting arena. It was famously known for its octagonal shaped indoor stadium, known as Gay World stadium or Geylang Indoor Stadium, in which it was the largest sheltered stadium in Southeast Asia (Omar and Rahman, 2005). According to the photograph (Figure 1) from National Archives of Singapore, the satellite imagery of the site showed a prominent octagonal shaped ring situated in the amusement park. In addition, from the imagery, the site labelled with a letter F was where Gay World Hotel located. Gay World Hotel was located at the opposite of the Amusement park.

Approximately, 1 in 1000 pregnant women are affected by cancer ( Cancer During Pregnancy ). Conflicts that pin maternal health versus fetal health have come to an attention grabbing point in our society. The pregnant woman legally has the right to accept treatment that will harm the unborn child. Still, it becomes a moral issue whether she owes it to her unborn child to refuse treatment in order to avoid fetal harm and deliver a healthy child. For the sake of argument, this paper will predominantly deal with pregnant cancer patients faced with the dilemma between refusing chemotherapy which may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By saving one human life, another is harmed or even terminated. This is obviously not a simple problem. Many nuances come into play. There is a chance that if of both the mother and the baby to live happy and normal lives after the chemo. The doctor s morals come into play; will the doctor directly harm another human life in order to save another or will the doctor exercise his medical paternalism to force chemotherapy onto the pregnant women in order to save her life? How aggressive the cancer is and whether, if left alone, the mother can deliver the baby prematurely in order to ensure the baby s safety before undergoing chemotherapy. Will the cancer, if left untreated, spread to the baby and directly affect the baby s development? As one can see, this is a very tedious and complicated problem and it is not one that has a correct answer. This is a moral question about how the world ought to be. Personal beliefs and practices play a huge role in each individual s answer to this difficult question. To start, knowing the background of the situation is critical to understanding the argument. In 1973, Roe vs. Wade was the Supreme Court case that made abortion under certain circumstances legal in the United States ( History of Abortion in the U.S. ). This also meant that women in the US could now make choices such as those stated out above. The judges determined that the unborn child was not a human with rights, but a clump of cells that was part of the

He used color characterizing of Impressionism but also made arrangements based on color theory. Seurat wanted to capture all the colors that interacted to make their own appearance which differed in thought to Impressionism of putting colors next to each other to create colors that blended optically. The trees show the special blending effects of the colors. To the left of the painting, the use of white creates a light and as the eye moves to the right, it blends into the color of the greens of the trees. Here, Seurat is placing white and green next to each other. The brushwork of the painting is dotlike with the dots varying in size and shape. These individuals dots blend together into one scene. The painting s perspective is to the left with the people all looking that way toward the river. The people in the front of the painting are closer to the eye. The woman in the front and that man walking with her are the biggest figures in the picture. These sizes help balance the artwork. Lines were mostly avoided with the use of shading for a softer effect. Seurat s painting is one of the most reproduced paintings. Initially, pointillism was not received well as this new painting style was like nothing else and the general public did not receive it well. A Sunday on La Grande Jatte was the first painting to be painted entirely in pointillism which changed the way art was viewed from Impressionism to Post
  • 8. An Essay On Yosemite National Park I just came back from a camping trip all the ways from Yosemite Nation Park at central California s, feral Nevada, the mountain range in the US. It was an amazing trip and I had learned a lot from it. Mostly, I had been awarded that Mother Nature had created us amazing scenery and left us only one mission, which is to watch over her creation, in order for it to be last forever. Firstly let me make a brief introduction about Yosemite National Park. Yosemite National Park had been created in 1864 and has been the acknowledgement by UNESCO as world heritage. It is about 3 million kilometres square large, moreover, 95% of it is wilderness. There are five major vegetation zones which are chaparral / oak woodland, lower montane, upper montane, subalpine and alpine. So why could we nature reserve Yosemite National Park you might ask? First and foremost, because of its unique and spectacular granite cliffs and mountains that had been existent for millions of years. Granite is a rock that is lightweight and typically used in building, therefore, it is very valuable. • 9. Advantages And Disadvantages Of SOA Project Abstract: In the last few decades SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) has become the new trend in the IT industry. Many organizations tend to migrate to SOA in order to cope with the rapidly changing business. Effort estimation of SOA projects has become a real challenge to project managers due to the limited literatures addressing this issue. The traditional effort estimation techniques do not fit SOA projects entirely, as SOA has unique characteristics were not addressed by the traditional cost estimation approaches. These characteristics include: loose coupling, reusability, composability and discoverability. On the other hand, SOA cost estimation approaches are still immature and can t be used in real life projects, as they are more guidelines... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this framework the SOA project is decomposed into its constituent services. Each service is classified to its type either: service mining, service development, service integration or application development. Each service type has its own specific activities, templates, cost factors and cost functions. The overall cost of the project will be a summation of the cost of its constituent services. Divide and Conquer (D C) Approach: The Divide and Conquer approach‎‎‎ ‎[5] was inspired from the divide and conquer algorithm that is used to solve complicated problems. This cost estimation approach not only takes the advantage of composability nature of services but also solves the complexity problem of SOA. The whole project is broken down into services; the cost of each service is estimated. The overall cost of the application is the summation of the cost of the component services ‎‎
  • 10. The Bibliography Of Heady Lamarr Part 1: The Bibliography of Heady Lamarr Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Maria Eva Kiesler in Vienna, Austria on November 9, 1914 to Emil and Gertrud Kiesler. According to several sources Hedy was extremely spoiled by her father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her love of scientific exploration, conversely her mother Gertrud was reportedly much sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family, Hedy s goal was always to be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she dropped out of school to join the theater. It s important to note that the theater was a well respected well attended media outlet in Vienna at that time, the culture of Vienna was accepting and often based on the philosophy and biases expressed ... The biggest issue for Hedy while she was married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she described her marriage to him as Being kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is where she eventually met up Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to America, change her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career. Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy denied to use it; stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already over packed ships. But Hedy had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on a campaign to sell war bonds through the influence of her celebrity status. After which she continued her film career for a total of 33 movies [3], raised three children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more times. Hedy eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically enough she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with her family via a cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create. • 12. Argument Essay On Abortion Abortion Debate Abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy by choice. A U.S Supreme Court case on January 22, 1973(Roe v. Wade) ruled that unduly restrictive state regulation of abortion is unconstitutional. Although this court case essentially decriminalized abortion, the morality behind it is still heavily questioned 44 years later. Movements such as pro life and pro choice have both made strides in converting their beliefs into legislation. However despite the legal progress both sides have made, abortion continues to be an ethnically divisive topic. A PEW Research Center survey stated that, 40% of americans believe that abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. The mission statement of a major pro life organization named National Right to Life (NRLC) says, The mission of National Right to Life is to protect and defend the most fundamental right of humankind, the right to life of every innocent human being from the beginning of life to natural death. The Pro Life Action League believe that unborn infants have the same constitutional unalienable rights as any other human being. Many opponents for abortion cite religious reasons as the basis for their arguments. A PEW Research Center survey stated that, 70% of evangelical protestants believe that abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. In addition, 44% of Catholics also believe that abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. One pro life organization, Pro Life Action League, said that

  • 14. I Stand Here Ironing, an Analysis Essay I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen is a short story that talks about a handicapped child. Emily had to struggle a whole lot on her short life, but at the end she proved to be a very strong child. Tillie Olsen s characterization of Emily shows a strong female protagonist who overcomes numerous odds: loneliness, humbleness, vulnerability, and her disability. The story is based on a child named Emily that has a physical disability. Emily lived in a family of five children. She always had a reason why we should stay home (Olsen 601). Emily is lonely. Emily was always willing to play and teach her sister new things. They shared so many things and enjoyed the company of each other. • 15. Augustine s Confessions By John Augustine Essay In the book Augustine s Confessions, there were multiply themes in the story which made the book great. One theme of Augustine s Confession is the problem which many Americans face today. That is evil. Evil is everywhere in the world. Augustine lost his mistress, mother and even his own son in the book. He had to also figure out why godis punishing people with these action. So found out the answer to the evil, Augustine ask why is God good and still allows suffering to exist. Augustine found out that evil because of the free willthat people have. God lets human pick what to do with their lives and the evil comes from the choices which you have decided. For example, a pregnant mother decides to drink alcohol while carrying her baby around. When the baby is finally born, the baby has problems with earing, talking, or even speaking. This is the evil choice which the mother had made. There are many kinds of evil and one of them are natural evil. Natural evil is a disease which another human has and it spreads around town. For example, people during the winter time have the flu. The flu spreads around town and soon enough, everyone will have it. This is a natural evil because you didn t cause it. Another example of natural evil is the black plague. The black plague spreads all over Europe and killed about 30 to 60 percent of Europe. The black plague was started in China due to the workers not cleaning up there shop. Soon enough, it was death of 350 million people. It is said to

The New Technology in Google and Microsoft With the growth of the Internet, and the popularity of Software as a Service, many applications that have traditionally been used offline have moved into the cloud. Companies providing on demand service through the Internet have reinvigorated one of the most iconic pieces of computer software, the productivity suite. Two such providers are Microsoftand Google. Through their Office 365 and Google Apps services, respectively, businesses can leverage the benefits of cloud without having to worry about the large upfront cost that productivity software used to incur. Microsoft, an industry leader with their Office suiteof software products for over two decades, now offers much of the same functionality through the Internet with Office 365. Whereas their products would previously cost over a hundred dollars per user up front, Microsoft offers Office 365 for as little as $5 per user per month. Some of the features that it includes are business class email, web conferencing, a public website, file sharing, shared calendars, and web versions of the most popular components of Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) ( Compare Office, n.d.). The company also offers, for a small amount more, the ability to get access to its desktop based applications as well. This makes it an attractive option for those companies that may still be transitioning to the cloud, or for those who still rely on a particular part of the Office suite (Access, Publisher, etc.). The Augustinian Theodicy Of Augustine Of Hippo The Augustinian theodicy, named for the fourth and fifth century theologian and philosopher Augustine of Hippo, is a type of Christian theodicy designed in response to the evidential problem of evil and suffering. It attempts to explain how an omnipotent and omnibenevolent God could exist amid evidence of evil in the universe. According to Augustine, the universe was originally free from sin due to God creating the world perfectly, as He is both omnipotent and omnibenevolent according to Christian belief. This means He both wants to and has the ability to create perfection. Since it is a fact of the created universe that God has called all things into the universe ex nihilo, and did so perfectly, suffering was absent from the world. Evil did not exist before the sin of angels and humans, as it first came into existence when angels, followed by humans, abused their power of free will and turned away from the person who had gifted them with it, God, their creator. Therefore Augustine states that evil is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Augustine compares the presence of evil in the universe to the colour black in a black and white painting. Therefore the presence of evil in the universe according to Augustine is not necessarily a bad thing, as it gives us the ability to see the perfection originally made by God. Additionally evil could serve a cause, as facing suffering allows us to develop traits such as courage and compassion which assist us in getting back to God and gaining eternal life in heaven as we can prove ourselves to Him this

Computer Systems Working Around Us Today, as a society, we all seem to accept the trend of doing multiple things at the same time because of the limited amount of time we are given on a daily basis. We find ourselves juggling many tasks at once; whether it is time with family, work, or even a favorite hobby, we all have to find time to manage all of these things while maintaining some kind of balance. It can be very difficult today to find time to do all of these things and one way to make it a lot easier is by using computers. While scientifically proven that it is impossible for our brains to do multiple tasks at the same time, we still seem to try. But now that we have so many amazing mini computer systems working around us, we can now do the multi tasking that our hearts desire. Our computers can do many processes simultaneously, allowing us to do many things that we want at the same time. But how do these computers handle all of these processes and applications at the same time? Well, in short, computer memory. The topics that I will include in the paper will consist of the following: Dynamic memory allocation, Virtual memory, memory leaks and stale references, fragmentation, large memory and cache systems. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. It not only determines what a social group will do to invoke change, it will also affect how a society will agree or disagree with the change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a response. In the each of the three steps mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be a framing of a situation as problematic and

  • 32. Commodification Of Halloween With the increase in reinterpretations of death and Halloween symbols, two fundamental things occurred, the mass commodification of Halloween and a decontextualization of the symbols of death. In 1978 the premiere of Halloween, directed by John Carpenter, directly placed the holiday itself in relation to horror and gruesome death, more so than the introduction of gothic horror ever did (Rogers 110; Khapaeva 58). The introduction of explicit horror, according to Rogers, created. a coded language that enables authors and invites their audiences to explore their fears, hidden desires, and anxieties (110). This established a creative space in which fantasy and dissociation could be merged creating a popularization of death without actually dealing with the reality of death itself. It created a space where the narrative of horror and death could be controlled and regulated, through established archetypes. This directly contrasted the collective psyche of the 1970s and 80s in the United States, which was dealing with the ramifications of the AIDS epidemic (the worst epidemic since Polio), and an increase in social, religious, and political conservatism (Khapaeva 78). Through horror movies and Halloween, social anxieties could be dealt with in an a political and creative way, while still maintaining the sanitized separation of hospital and culture. In the contemporary period, Halloween s popularity has increased. Personal expenditures on Halloween have drastically increased since the 2000s, to create a multi billion dollar industry, which has expanded the cultural awareness and practice of Halloween (Khapaeva 57). However, this expansion has led to the commodification of Halloween, by equating it with consumer culture. This has significant implications for the cultural conception of death as it equate previously potent symbols with cheap goods. But this might have been by design, as Grider argues that the mass commercialization of Halloween is another way in which collectively western culture can control the potentially dangerous incursion of the supernatural world in our everyday lives (10). Through the ownership of material goods associated with Halloween, the narrative and context of the concepts are further

The people of Harlem as well as other cities are waiting for that one injustice or catalyst that will push their tolerance over the top and lead them to violently fight back through riot and protest. In one sentence, Baldwin manages to switch gears, from one that is very private to a description of the general feeling felt among the people living in Harlem. Baldwin, being a part of the community, takes his own feelings of waiting and applies it to a general picture, where a lot of people were in fact waiting as well. Baldwin continues on and says that blacks were being oppressed everywhere. ...Negro girls who set upon a white girl in the subway because...she was stepping on their toes. Indeed she was, all over the nation (73). Not only does this portray the ever growing tension felt among African Americans in a certain area, it expresses the tension felt across the nation. African Americans everywhere were still continuously looked down upon, causing agitation, which was the current social condition blacks and whites faced. Soon after, the catalyst that ignites riots in Harlem, which was foreshadowed earlier in the essay, takes place. The riots begins when a rumor spread claiming that a white police officer shot a black soldier in the back, which wasn t the truth at all (81). The way

Great Expectations The novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens as well as its adaptation from the PBS s mini series explore the universal themes of contentment and discontentment as well the idea of loss. Both the novel and the movie adaptation start off with Pip in the cemetery near the marshes meandering about his parents and five siblings graves. The reader and viewer receive the sense that he s either contemplating the loss he has endured or perhaps contemplating what his life could have been like if things had gone differently. Bernard Paris describes this scene, as follows, His sense of the precariousness of existence is epitomized by the graves of his five little brothers and is intensified by Magwitch, who threatens to cut his throat if he does not stop crying and to eat his heart and liver if he does not bring him supplies. Pip s encounter with Magwitch is so significant because it epitomizes, in an extreme way, his everyday experience (Paris, 1997). While Joe Gargery was uneducated, not well dressed, and a hard working blacksmith, he is still someone Pip looks up to during Pip s childhood. Pip even tells Miss Havisham that he wants to be a blacksmith someday like Joe. Pip and Joe have plenty of conversations and are happy to keep each other s company. • 37. Semiotics In Romeo And Juliet This essay will pose as a semiotic analysis of a famous quote from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go unnoticed. Many quotes that are used by business professionals are quotes from famous writers such as Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the phrase Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall. Resonated with me and is the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and ideas that are signs in the quote are wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in the quote because each wordpossesses an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic analysis of the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be provided as it relates to business professionals and what the phrase signifies when used in that context. Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature decisions in any given situation because each decision that is made can excel or hinder future endeavors. The pros and cons should be weighed before committing, in order to make a sound decision. Without proper information and guidance, one is essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor may be necessary because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and can give advice on what you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal. Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and goals. It takes a great amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off overall. Great things aren t accomplished overnight. From a business standpoint, it means that you must work your way to the top. The process may seem slow, but the progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the outcome. There is a stigma that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful, things must be accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of success in some cases. Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings with our longing for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process without a second thought. People tend to rush the process of life to attain temporary happiness which
  • 38. Inglorious Basterds Comparative Essay Aside from the controversial revenge plots, both films establish their message through the inclusion of motifs and metaphors. One motif is of blood staining white objects throughout the film. In the scene where Dr. Schultz shot a Brittle brother fleeing on horseback. In this scene, the impact of the bullet caused blood to splatter onto the whiteof the cotton plants. Later in the film, a white flower that was worn by Calvin Candie was stained with blood when he was shot directly in the heart by a bullet from Dr. Schultz. Despite all the similarities these films have, I feel the revenge fantasy in Inglorious Basterds is more justified than Django Unchained. I agree with Bonilla s point that movies are a reflection of the time period of which it was made and Django Unchained was intended to serve that role. Although Django Unchained had a strong anti slavery message, many critics felt the film did not address the racial issues that are still present in America. The revenge plot in Inglorious Basterds was unequivocally anti Nazi, with its plethora of burned swastikas and slain Nazi s; Tarantino made it very clear the enemy. However, the message was not as clear in Django Unchained. Yes, there is a strong anti slavery message, that is made clear through the plot and anti slavery motifs, but is the film attempting to address more? Tarantino does not make this clear at any point during this movie forcing the audience to make assumptions as to whether this is just an anti slavery film or if it is also anti racism. As a result of this ambiguity, the message of Django Unchained is not as clearly defined as it

However, as stated in Technology in the Classroom... There is so much information available that students can soon become overwhelmed or, worse yet, completely duped by Web sites that speciously appear to be accurate and honest sources (Braun 1997).[3] Teachers, when instructing students to use the Internet, should show them how to search for material and critically review it in order to ensure that it is factual and honest. Another option is Webquest, an inquiry based curriculum design for online problem solving that has become very popular.[4] Teachers who wish to utilize these resources can do so by having students look up laws and court decisions online and create presentations or recreate the court cases in order to illustrate their comprehension of the material, as well as show their thoughts on the subject. Students today have options available to them that were never available before, both in the classroom and in the library.

SUPPORT/ANALYSIS: Located by ports: All of the Southern colonies that were located by waters were the best location for ports. These ports would bring in trading goods and would easily allow these colonies the export there goods anywhere along the waters, especially the major trade partner England. This helped to shape these select colonies by labeling them as primarily trading colonies; therefore they would be making the most amount of money amongst the colonists. This video, entitles Being Multiracial in America, featured a group of young, mixed race College students elated that the United States would potentially elect a man that grew up in a blended culture comparable to their own. There was this conspicuous desire shared among these students to live in a society understanding of the intricacies of one s racial identity. None of these students wished to identify themselves as only one of their races. They wanted to eliminate this illusion of racial choice. To these young people, one person shouldn t choose what sole racethey are because they exist within this category of both . The complexity of their own genetic makeup was something they felt would be eradicated by aligning themselves with only a percentage of themselves. Seeing a man run for president who made it known to the country that his mother was White and his father was Black overjoyed these individuals. There was an astounding sense of hope that Barack Obama provided for this group. Their prospect was that once the people of this nation understood that mixed raced individuals can acknowledge themselves as such, we would be on our way to eradicating this intense racial divide, leading to so much violence and anger, that exists within our country. Eight years later, this country is now at the brink of saying farewell to Obama.

The media surrounds our society in many ways; through social media platforms, magazines, television, advertisements, etc. the media has been always around. The study of media and its effects on society is based on the belief that mass communication has effects on individuals, society, and culture (Perse). The media continues to become more and more relevant in our culture. Many people in our society today use the media daily. Also, there are many studies about social media and its effects on us. The media affects the way we view body image in a negative way. The media has affected people for many years. It has been around since people have been printing newspapers and broadcasting on the radio. Particularly, the media has an effecton youth and there are many studies and articles that research how the media affects youth. One example is, in the article, Social Media and Body Image Concerns: Further Considerations and Broader Perspectives written by Robert J. Williams and Lina A. Ricciardelli: Social media are the main form of mass media being used by the youth of today, and researchers in the U.S. and Australia have commenced studying how these may be affecting body image concerns. However, the processes underlying how social media may influence young people s body image appear to be no different from underlying other forms of mass media. Research is needed to more fully evaluate youth s experiences of online appearance culture and how this may foster both negative and positive peer interactions (Williams and Ricciardelli 389). This quote discusses how youth today is affected by the media and their body image. Media has a direct effect on body image because the media projects unrealistic body goals. This then can result in people developing anxiety or depression. Also, in some cases, people could develop eating disorders in order to look like how people in the media are broadcasted. The media has such a strong influence on people every day since we are always around it. In another article, it states, Diana Vancura argues that the media emphasize appearance over talent, which negatively affects the body image

V for Vendetta is a type of film where in a future, where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the government, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman. This film shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that you have been given an opportunity if you chose to view it with a different set of eyes. And yet there will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense of security operating in the belief systems that harbor fear, anger and hate rather than letting go to face the very emotions that enslave them. This film uses fancy quotes or catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around the main character(s), especially the protagonist V and to the eventuality, Evey at the end of the story. Special effects and the fanatical costume visuals (with the famous Guy Fawkes mask) all is used intently to make the audience with a tint of exhilarance, to make them think, what does this mean? • 50. Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one s past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experiencecome to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one
