Elizabethan Espionage And Its Impact On The Growth And...
During a time in England when there was much religious conflict, there was also a need to
protect the queen due to her religious beliefs. The protectors who safeguarded Queen Elizabeth I
from danger were commonly thought to be her brave knights or constables. However, there was
actually a clandestine group of individuals who were charged with a similar duty. Unlike England
s military intelligence forces today, a disorganized spy group engaged in espionage for the defense
of Renaissance England s important affairs and for Queen Elizabeth herself. Because of this spy
ring s successes, Elizabethan espionage had a dramatic impact on the growth and evolution of
England as a nation.

Another well known leader in Elizabeth s network was Sir Francis Walsingham. Before the throne
of Elizabeth I began in 1558, a noble English man, Sir Francis Walsingham, was not in favor of
Queen Mary I s authority (MackovГЎ). Instead of abiding to the Mary I s leadership, Francis
traveled outside of England until the accession of Elizabeth I. When Sir Walsingham returned to a
new ruler in England, he brought with him stronger relations with foreign contacts and knowledge
that prove to be significant for a position he attained as Secretary of State. Eventually, Sir
Walsingham would further strengthen England s spy group to surveillance the depths within
England and abroad for secrets that would prevent harm to England (Watts).
In addition to Elizabeth s closest advisers, Robert Dudley was among one of the three leaders
who had firm control in Elizabeth I s spy network. Dudley was a member of the queen s privy
council and was an appointee of Master of Horses, a position that involved organizing public
attendances, progresses, and entertainment for the queen (Somerset, pp. 111). Dudley was
Elizabeth I s most favorite out of all her advisers. Both Elizabeth I and Dudley had romantic desires
for each other, unfortunately nothing between them would escalate since not too many people were
pleased about their relationship (Somerset, pp. 100 03)
The queen s newly founded secret service required individuals who could perform tasks

The Most Popular Word Of Fuck
Out of all the words that start with an F, fuck is the only word that is considered the F word .
There are many origins of this word, some may appear to be true due to the way we use this
word in context today, but don t be fooled, quite a few origins of this word are actually false.
Fuck has taken place of many words throughout the years, but this generation is breaking tradition.
I think this word will be around for a long time and sooner or later it will be part of our daily
vocabulary. A study on Facebook shows that within three days, the word fuckis used over 9.5
million times, and the numbers are growing more and more each day. ( The Most Popular Swear

strike during a fight. ( Etymology of Fuck ) ( On the Origin of Fuck ) The word swive meant to

swive came from the Middle English, but isn t used as consistently as it was back then. Then,
shag came in place of swive in the 18th century and used mostly by the British. Fuck was first
used in the Austin Powers film, many people boycotted the film and tried to get it banned from
being played in theatres, but the complaints were not upheld and the movie continued to be made. (
The Definition of Shag )( A Fucking Short History of the F Word )
There are many different meanings of the word fuck. The most commonly used definition of the

to have sexual intercourse with someone in which the word is also used as a verb but, on

What Was The Erie Canal
How the Erie Canal Opened the Door to the Western Frontier After the American Revolution,
people s thoughts turned to the American West. But while the thought of going west was in a lot
of people s minds, so were thoughts of the restrictions making the move almost impossible. The
trip to the west was filled with mountains, forests, rivers and even a few waterfalls. How was this
transportation of people and goods to take place?
Before the Transcontinental Railway, interstate highways and airplanes changed the shape of our
country, there was the New York State Erie Canalsystem. Although the idea of a canal was
perceived in the late 1700 s, it wasn t until the 1790 s that locks and canals on the Mohawk River
allowed for boat travel from Schenectady to Oswego and to Seneca Lake in the Finger lakes region
of New York. One canal of great significance was the Erie Canal.... Show more content on

But because of the drawbacks for commercial waterways with their rapids and waterfalls, Clinton
s idea was an excellent one. He worked hard to promote the idea of the waterway, even as
skeptics continued to call the plan, Clinton s Ditch or Clinton s Folly. Because of the hard work
and perseverance of Clinton, the Erie Canal became a successful engineering project. New York s
terrain was complex, but the canal, four feet deep and forty feet wide, traversed through fields,
forests and cliffs and included eighty three locks. These locks were structures used to equalize

Drumming Wolf Spider
The Wolf spider belongs to the Lycosidae family. They are a part of the Arthropod phylum as they
are characterized by having an exoskeleton, coelom, an open circulatory system and body
segments with jointed appendages. Arthropods evolved by substituting the coelom for a protective
exoskeleton. It was not entirely lost, but still remains in some parts of the reproductive and
excretory systems. (Ruppert et al. 2004) Lycosidae are in the Araneae order as they are arthropods
with four pairs of legs with chelicerae that contains venomous glands. (Ruppert et al. 2004)

The Lycosidae uses its chelicerae to hold its prey before using its venomous fangs into paralysing
it. (Nicholas, 2011) Similarly, snakes inject venom quickly into its prey and waits for it to
immobilise before digesting it, this adaptation prevents preys from escaping and increases its
chance of survival.
The Wolf spider and Nursery web spider (Pisauridae) are closely related and both exhibit similar
but different characteristics which highlights the divergences of the species. They both have
eight eyes which puts them in the superfamily Lycosoidea, the Pisauridae has similar sized eyes
whilst the wolf spider has two big eyes at the front and six smaller ones. Their maternal care is also
alike; the wolf spider carries its egg sac from its spinnerets for 4 6 weeks whilst Pisauridae carries
its egg sacs in their chelicerae for 2 3 weeks before building a protective tent to safe guard them in.
(Nicholas, 2011).
Since Wolf Spiders are poor dispersers (Marshall et al, 2000), they are likely to be affected by
human activity such as habitat destruction from land clearing, and pesticides used on crops and
grasses. This is likely to affect the Wolf Spider as habitat destruction would not only remove its
home, but also cause the removal of prey

ENG 101
Professor Arancibia
In English 101 from a Latinx Perspective, the course has focused on the experiences of Mexican
immigrants and their Mexican American children within the novel Pocho by Jose Antonio Villareal.
This short novel focuses on the Rubio family. Though the text begins with Juan Rubio as the
protagonist, early on, there is a shift and the only son, Richard Rubio becomes the protagonist. The
setting of the novel is the early 20th century. The events at the beginning of the novel take place in
Mexico just after the end of the Mexican Revolution. The novel then shifts to Santa Clara,
California where the Rubio family has settled to begin their lives in the United States. Though Juan

In this quote, we see Richard breaking ties with his ethnic origins in Mexico. Instead, he takes on
an American identity. He no longer sees himself as a Mexican, but instead sees himself as a
Mexican American. This is a textbook definition of assimilation, where one lets go of an identity
rooted in a family history and instead creates a new identity based on the context he lives in.
Another instance in which assimilation is present is when the Rubio family begins to adopt more
and more of American values, particularly Richard s mother, in chapter 8. He describes the process
as if their family was taking on the mores of the middles class and it saddened him to see the
Mexican tradition begin to disappear (132). Not only does Richard s mother start to gossip with
neighbors, she stops taking care of the house and begins to question her husband, taking it as a
symbol of freedom from the gender expectations back in Mexico. Villarreal writes,
Although he loved his mother, Richard realized that a family could not survive when the woman
desired to command, and he knew that his mother was like a starving child who had become
gluttonous when confronted with food. She had lived so long in the tradition of her country that
she could not help herself now, and abused the privilege of equality afforded the women of her new
country. (134)

Michael Heim s Virtual Reality
Michael Heim describes virtual reality as an event or entity that is real in effect but not in fact . He
states, There is a sense in which any simulation makes something real that in fact is not . In his
essay, The Essence of VR, Heim goes on to define this term by examining the seven divergent
concepts currently guiding VR research , which is stimulation, interaction, artificiality, immersion,
telepresence, full body immersion, and network communications (1993:109 114).
Heim notes that certain analysts attempt to dodge the term virtual reality since it appears to make
great cases for it. At MIT and NASA, they incline toward virtual situations, and a few colleges
would rather there be virtual planets. As a thinker, Heim is not reluctant to make extraordinary
and respectable cases for virtual reality, which he recommends may reasonably be viewed as the
Holy Grail of machine exploration: Perhaps the substance of VR in the long run lies not in
engineering yet in craftsmanship, maybe specialty of the most noteworthy request. As opposed to

Themes Of A Yellow Raft In Blue Water
In the book, A Yellow Raft in Blue Water, written by Michael Dorris, the story is told by three
different narrators at three different points in time. Rayona, a half black, half Native American teen,
Christine, the mother of Rayona, and Aunt Ida, who poses as Christine s mom but actually in
reality, is Christine s half sister. Throughout the book, there are many references towards the book s
themes and are examined and highlighted throughout the book. Familyand finding your true
identity are the main themes in this book because throughout the book, Rayona s past remains a
mystery to her all because of her mother and grand mother and she is willingly desperate to find a
family or other people that will welcome her and make her feel normal. In this book, family and

The color yellow appears most at Bearpaw Lake State Park, where a yellow raft is in blue water.
Rayona feels the yellow boat as an escape from reality and feels peaceful whenever she s on it.
This is because of Ellen DeMarco. When Rayona sees Ellen for the first time, Rayona admires
her because she assumes that Ellen has a perfect life that Rayona dreams and imagines of
having, even when Ellen gets off and on the yellow raft. The yellow raft is so precious to
Rayona that the yellow raft symbolizes the life that Rayona is desperate for, but she cannot and
most likely will never have. In Christine s section, she challenged herself to cross a naturally
built yellow stone bridge while she was growing up. Unfortunately, she never was able to cross
the bridge by herself and failed every time she attempted to do so. However, Lee, posing as
Christine s sister to Christine, he helps her out crossing the bridge and achieving the goal she set
for herself. From this point on, the story of her constant failure on her own eventually leads her to

Romanticism In The Devil And Tom Walker
William Shakespeare, one of the most prominent writers in the English language, compared life
with nature through his statement, And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in
trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in the stones, and good in everything. As Shakespeare
brings forth a parallel between life and the nature world, he uses romanticismcharacteristics to
exemplifies his purpose. This technique translates to The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington
Irving and The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Romanticism
characteristic are displayed within the previous tittles through awe of nature, and interest in the
common man. To begin, in the short story The Devil and Tom Walker , awe of nature is used to
convey both the mood and meaning of the narrative. Irving creates a setting that is dark in spirt as
Tom Walker makes his way through the woods. In this excerpt, the reader can visualize Walker s
surroundings through the natural pessimistic atmosphere of the woods,
The swamp was thickly grown with great gloomy pines and hemlocks, some of them ninety feet
high; which made it dark at noonday, and a retreat for all the owls of the neighborhood. It was full
of pits and quagmires, partly covered with weeds and mosses; where the green surface often
betrayed the
Bakke 2 traveler into a gulf of black smothering mud; there were also dark and stagnant pools, the
abodes of the tadpole, the bull frog, and the water snake, and where trunks of pines and hemlocks
lay half drowned, half rotting, looking like alligators, sleeping in the mire. (Irving 2)
In this passage, nature is portrayed as ominous and foreboding. There is a slight hint of death within
the abeyance of the forest. This is shown by the half drowned and half rotting trees. This creates a
complex connection between Walker and his surroundings. The intertwine of corruption and
immorality is shown through the vile aspects of the various pants and animals that live within the
woods. As Walker trudges along, the ongoing wicked display of the forest pushes the reader s
emotions into an unsettling state. Intern, foreshadowing Walker s sinful decisions when he
encounters a forbidding force, the devil. Thus,

Piano Sonata No. 14 Moonlight Sonata Music has been surrounding the human race since nature
itself whistled through the earth s first oak leaves. Throughout the centuries upon centuries of
existence, music has developed and adapted into what plays today through car radios across the
world. Ludwig van Beethoven himself helped pioneer music into what we understand of it in today
s day and age. Piano Sonata No. 14 commonly referred to as the Moonlight Sonata is the perfect
example of a musical cairn. This piece has three individual movements that can stand on their own,
yet turn the sonata as a whole into a masterpiece, speaks through both profundity and grace, and
retains many of the musical elements that cause sonatas such as this to maintain relevancy
throughout the test of time. Moonlight Sonata is really a composition of three movements that

Beethoven implements the key of Db major, which is recognized worldwide as the standard parallel
to C# minor, the prior key. What this means is that after the mysteriousness and suspense of Adagio
Sostenuto, Beethoven turns the next movement into the exact opposite. What was slow is now
fast; mystery is now understanding; cringing is now comfort. Most importantly, what was mournful
is now buoyant. All of this is changed simply because of the transition from C# minor to Db major.
The sostenuto is fully resolved unexpectedly, and the cheerful disposition is maintained by
sforzandos and forte pianos, both of these causing sudden spurts of joyful loudness, strategically

The Third Movement Of Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach lived in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750. In Leipzig, he was the
music director of the Collegium Musicum, which presented a series of evening concerts that
brought visitors and musical talent to the city. An example of the repertoire presented in these
concerts would be Bach s harpsichord concertos, which were arrangements of other concertos for
different instruments. According to Pankratz, these concertos (both for the original instrument and
harpsichord) were written with didactic purposes, meaning that they were supposed to help the
students improve their musical skills. Following Pankratz s idea of Bach being a music director
with instructive goals, this paper suggests that the third movement of the Harpsichord Concerto
No.5 in F minor, BWV 1056 by Johann Sebastian Bachis a prime example of his pedagogic
influence in Leipzig, represented by the constant interaction between the soloist and the ripieno.
This is symbolic of the teacher student relation Bach had with the students, as he would often be
the solo performer in the evening concerts and the students would play the ripieno parts.
The interaction between the soloist and the ripieno comes in various forms: advanced counterpoint,
dynamics, dialogue, and/or harmonic changes. The work features three ritornello themes in which
we find all these interactions. The first theme (R1) is the main theme and it is four measures long.
The interaction is presented with the soloist simply playing

Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is an excellent novel, written by James Joyce, about the life
of Stephen Dedalus and how he overcame the barriers of his family and his religion to pursue his
life as a writer. Drawing on details based on his own early life, Joyce provides us with insight into
how his own imagination worked (Gose, 267). Extensive use of stream of consciousness, which
represent the character s inner thoughts and perceptions, and like human thoughts jumping from
one thought to the next, oftentimes make Portrait a hard reading. This is however intentional as
Joyce wants his readers to be obliged to re create his own space in the inner universe of the text, to
participate in a sort of intransitive discourse, one that bears no п¬Ѓxed meaning in relation to
external reality which tends, in fact, to destroy referentiality and with it, the readers sense of
balance (Sabatini, 95). Joyce wants his readers to experience Stephen s inner thoughts starting
from a young age, and to see the world from his perspective. Once upon a time and a very good
time it was there was a moocow coming along the road and this moocow that was coming down
along the road met a nicens little boy named baby tuckoo.... (Joyce, 5). Joyce s Portrait, his
introduction to Stephen, his introduction to himself begins with a story, expressing just how
important art is in Joyce s life, and in a way, in Stephen s life. Stephen is just a small boy then to
whom his father is reading a children s

With all that s happened in the turning tides of the political climate in Washington DC, I find a
misquote of an original Albert Einstein quote to be appropriate:
Everything should be as simple as it can be, but not simpler.
It s obvious we live in a divisive time. But lately I ve started to wonder if we live in an
oversimplified one as well. I wonder if our heightened emotions have mistakenly led us to believe
things were much more straightforward then they are. We feel so passionately about so much. And
the louder our voices get, the deeper our convictions go. We are certain unity is possible. (If only
the other side who could begin to see things our way.)
It s simple.
But it s not. For me, at least. And feeling this way has led to me feeling ... Show more content on

And that s okay.
Still, it does make it more lonely.
But the thing is, I m not convinced I am the only one. I think there are a lot of us. At least I hope
there are. I hope there is an undercurrent of insurgents who are not allowing a political party to
determine where we belong and what we believe. Who see the humanity in those who take the same
positions we do, and in those who are bitterly opposed. Who believe to simplify the cause is to
undermine the cause. And that to reduce the issues to the lowest common denominator is to reduce
the personhood of those who don t agree with us.
We are the new revolutionaries who know that nothing is as simple as it appears, that things are
more murky than maybe either side feels comfortable admitting, and that the act of not belonging
anywhere is in and of itself belonging and taking a stand somewhere. This too takes courage, self
reflection, and conviction. We are not copping out, selling out, or flaking out. We are leaning in,
we are tuning in, and we are giving in to something larger than our need to feel comfortable. We are
learning to live in the in between.
So. Is anyone with

Is Ethics Promoted By Human Resource Management Affects...
The purpose of this paper is to examine the manner in which ethics promoted by human resource
management affects the operations of an organization. The human resource management is
responsible for implementing the accepted behavior of the stakeholders to ensure that the company
runs smoothly. The company is dependent on the human resource in maintaining and promoting
ethical behaviors as it has the responsibility of educating, training and communicating the behavior
of the stakeholders. This paper clarifies the manner in which the human resource management
engages in various operative activities for instance protecting the company from infringing the set
laws and regulations through practicing unethical behaviors. It is very easy for the human resource
management to implement a code of ethicsthrough the established policies of the company that
establishes the ethical behavior and helps in governing the daily activities of the organization. It is
evident that promoting ethics yields more benefits to the organization as for instance the employees
are motivated thereby increasing the productivity of the company.
The theoretical consideration on ethics in business focuses on the ecological as well as social
responsibilities of a company within a community as ethics are regarded an important aspect in the
external self presentation and the perception of the organization in economic terms (Köster, 2002).
The relationship between human resource management and ethics has been

The Effects Of Alcoholism On The Individual Health
When talking about alcoholism, we have to take into consideration all of the effects that the
alcohol use and misuse have, not only on the individual and its family but on the whole society
as well. More or less people drink because they want to socialize and some people drink because
they think that with the alcohol they will recover a solution or make their problems easier.
Alcohol can have big implications on the individual health. The individual that is an alcoholic or
that has alcohol related problems can be more prone to different diseases. If the alcohol is used
constantly for a long period of time it can harm not only the physical but the mental health as
well. The individual using alcohol can become aggressive and violent towards the family. The
household may also suffer not just physical but a mental abuse as well. The individual with an
alcohol related problem may start being absent from work more frequently, having a lack of
productivity, be more easily annoyed and begin arguing with coworkers or superiors. This may lead
to losing the occupation and create even bigger troubles with the family, friends, and the vicinity.
From this being said, there is a big burden on the society as well. All the injuries, violence that may
occur, traffic accidents, treatments, medical bills, changing policies, and so many other problems
that the society has to deal with. Every society, country, nation is different and unique. All of them

Contribution Of Indian Nationalism
The Indian independence movement was simply a response to British colonialism and oppression
of the Indian subcontinent inhabitants. Indian nationalism was the most crucial factor of Indian
independence, because it resulted in the swadeshi movement and national heros that joined the
different people of India. Shivaji preceded Mohandas Gandhi, but both were among the first
national heros. Indian national heroes are closely connected to Indian nationalism, but it is
critically important to first understand Indian Nationalism.
Indian nationalism was illustrated by people of Indian independence movement only in an effort to
connect the various races of India. Nationalism can be described as the loyalty and devotion to one
nation. Nationalists tend to exalt a nation, which is a group of people that care commonalities such
as language, religion, traditions, customs, and habits. Nationalism, as exhibited by Indians, could
lead to the desire for national furtherance of a nation or the striving for political independence.
Indian Nationalism was propagated by philosophical anarchists, especially Mohandas Gandhi and
Bhagat Singh. Indian Nationalists were fiercely occupied with creating their own idiosyncratic
form of nationalism. Many Indian nationalists argued for nationalism on the verge of anarchism
like Tagore. Tagore believed that european nationalism was a by product of capitalism , and gave
rise to such evils as colonialism (Tagore 6). Furthermore, Tagore believed that

Shadow Hills regained their composure and aggressively caught up to Xavier causing the crowds

Effects of a Role Playing Game on the Anxiety and...
The main focus of the present study will be to observe the effects of a role playing game on the
anxiety and confidence levels among college sophomores enrolled in the CUNY institutional
system. Specifically, this study will observe the effect of World of Warcraft on students perceived
levels of anxietyand confidence. 200 CUNY sophomores enrolled in a Calculus II course will be
measured by the Generalized Anxiety DisorderScale 7 at weeks 1, 7, and 13 and by the Self
Confidence Inventory at weeks 2, 8, and 14. Students randomly assigned to the experimental
condition will complete two forty five minute World of Warcraft sessions for a total of ninety
minutes a week for a period of fifteen weeks. It is predicted that students in the experimental
condition will have a significant decrease in their scores on the Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Scale 7 and an increase in their scores on the Self Confidence Inventory at the end of the study.
Also of interest in the present study is the academic achievement among both the control and
experimental participants. Participants GPA will be recorded from their Calculus I course and will
again be recorded at the end of the semester in their Calculus II course.

How Technology Has Developed And Integrated Systems Of...
I have always been fascinated by the magnificent way humans have developed and integrated
systems of people, money, knowledge, information and energy. Growing up, I was incredibly
curious to unravel how devices function, and this curiosity developed into a burning desire to learn
how processes, systems, and organizations operate and run our world.
From an early age I used to read science books, journals, magazines and watch engineering
documentaries driven by my eagerness to gain a better understanding of the mechanism by which
our world system is working.
I completed my Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, the program was a blend of mathematics,
operation management, lean manufacturing, quality control and engineering economics
applications. All through my Bachelor program, I was attracted to the idea of developing a more
effective technique to generate power of the solar system using smart technology.
Driven by a desire to tackle the global warming phenomenon, I decided to carry out my final year
project work on a solar power generation device, where I came up with an innovative method and
designed a dual axis model which used the solar power to operate and produce renewable energy
with improved efficiency. Whilst pursuing my Bachelor degree I worked for Rimth Company LTD,
a contracting and trading private company, for three years.
While working as a Project Manager Assistant, I provided advice which contributed to shaping

Buddhism As Meditation Of Buddhism
as meditation. In short, in adapting to a changing world, Buddhism has transformed in many ways
to fit the needs and desires of the cultures it has come into contact with.
Moreover, aside from the shift to a less ritualistic approach, many Buddhist forms have also moved
towards a stress on equality over hierarchy. To begin with, in traditional Buddhism, a believer s
length of practice or education determines the weight of their opinions. This especially applies
regarding scripture. However, putting this into perspective, in the words of McMahan, it would
have occurred to virtually no one, simply to pick up such a book and try to understand it for

Rhetorical Knowledge Skill Transfer Analysis
It is hard to pinpoint if these areas were being transferred or were already there to being with.
Since most aspects of the Habits of Mind as well as the WPA Outcomes are self evident. But if I

The Conscription Crisis Of World War One
A famous quote by Canadian Prime Minister, Mackenzie King, in World War Two is, Conscription
if necessary, but not necessarily conscription (Persico, 199). The conscription crisis during World
War One and World War Two had a negative effect on Canadian society. First of all, the
Conscription Crisis of World War One, taking place between 1917 and 1918, introduced many
important events for Canadian history. Furthermore, in World War Two, conscription
is established
yet again between 1944 and 1945. This reintroduction of conscription took place for many reasons,
and led to a negative impact throughout Canada. Lastly, many people attempted to prevent
conscription, such as Prime Minister McKenzie King. Therefore the conscription crisis of
World War One had a negative effect on Canada. Conscription was initially created during The
Great War, also known as World War One, by Canada s Prime Minister Robert Borden. Robert
Borden introduced the Conscription Bill, also known as the Military Service Act. Canada
introduced Conscription for many reasons, but mainly due to the lack of volunteers. Casualties
were rising and fewer men were volunteering for a sure death in no man s land (Perisco, 198). By
the beginning of October 1914, 30,000 Canadians volunteered for war. However, enlistments fell
and the number dropped drastically when men began to recognize the number of casualties caused
by battle. Families were unwilling to sacrifice their men and Canada could see that battle field

Recording The Oratorio Song Of The Forests
Prior to composing the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 in 1948, Shostakovich composed the film
music Michurin that was about the life of horticulturist Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin (1855 1935).
The film music encouraged Shostakovich to compose another work based on the same rural theme.
Below is his statement during the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it:
My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer. Indeed, a
number of my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the cinema. For instance, my work
on the film Michurin has prompted me to compose my oratorio the Song of the Forests.
In fact, the lines in song no. 5 Комсомольцы выходят вперед

Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45 and 32 04 on
the scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin s
much expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian
people. The piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody
becomes an important recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the
Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that
the melody is written in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below.
Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music
Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the
terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x.
Therefore, the full length version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree
and ascends until the fifth scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor
pitch.According to Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that
the Song of the Forests was composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough s statement, motive
x actually occurs in other songs as well generating a coherence in the oratorio. Below is several
examples of the utilization of motive x in each song.

Mandatory Sentencing Laws For Repeat Offenders
In the 1990s, states began to execute mandatory sentencing laws for repeat offenders. This
statute became known as three strike laws . The three strikes law increases prison sentence for
people convicted of a felony. If you have two or more violent crimes or serious felonies, it limits
the ability that offenders have to receive a punishment other than life sentencing. By 2003 over
half of the states and federal government had enacted the three strike laws . The expectation
behind it was to get career criminals off the street for the good of the public. However, the laws
have their connoisseurs who charge sentences that are often excessive to the crimes committed and
that incarcerate of three strike inmates for 25 years to life. Nevertheless, the US Supreme Court
has upheld three strike laws and had rejected the fact that they amount to cruel and unusual
punishment. The state of Washington passed the first three strikes law in 1993. Anyone convicted
of three separate violent felonies must be sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole.
Then on March 8th, 1994, California followed by enacting the law that sanctioned a sentence of
25 years to life for a third felony conviction. Contrary to Washington, the California law counts
nonviolent felonies, such as burglary and theft as strike offences; by 2001, over 50,000 criminals
had been penalized under the new law, far more than any other state, with almost a quarter of the
prisoners facing a minimum of 25 years

Abstract
Cornelis Le Mair
Throughout my time while learning Visual Arts, I had the privilege and the opportunity to be
exposed to a number of artists and mediums. Like all artist, I have been influenced by a number
of artist and techniques. I was especially interested in a contemporary artist called Gerhard
Richter. I was introduced to his works in the beginning of my years in IB and he has been
constantly influencing me in my works, one way or another. One major concept that I realised was
that he had a very close relationship with photography in his artworks. This triggered me to ponder
if it was the same for other artists and actually how photography affected paintings throughout the
history of art.
Until now, photography has a profound influence on paintings ever since optical devices were
introduced in the art society. However, the concept of photography influencing painting has been
very controversial. While some artist appreciates the development of photography and embraces the
impact towards their own works,

Benjamin Franklin Sparknotes
Benjamin Franklin s autobiography starts off with him addressing it Dear Son and beginning
with this history of his family. He traces it back to three hundred years. His father and his wife
settled in Boston along with Franklin and his siblings. Although Franklin is identified as
intelligent it was also known that he struggles in school(he is told he must take up a trade). He
strongly disliked his father s trade and so he tried out a few others before being apprenticed to
his brother James, a printer. He enjoys this trade and spends his leisure time perfecting his own
writing. James and Franklin did not get along. So, Franklin and his friend John Collins run away
to Philadelphia. There Franklin gets work with a printer, with whom he has a pleasant enough
relationship. Sir William Keith(the Governor of the province) was impressed by Franklin s
work, and offers to help Franklin convince his father that he should open his own shop. However,
his father thinks he is too young and tells him he has to spend time working hard for his trade.
Franklin agreeing because he had no other choice and hopes in the near future to have his own
shop. In the meantime, he has a fallout with Collins. Franklin worries about paying back the
money of his father s friend(Vernon), who had given it to Franklin for safekeeping. Franklin has a
legal dispute with a young woman named Miss Read and enjoyed conversing about poetry and
philosophy with other young men in the town. One man, James

Greasy Lake does not reveal any revelation in the characters. The story is told by a narrator that
describes himself as a privileged teen that considers himself friends with evil traits. The
narrative technique is deemed to be modernist. Greasy Lake is set in a small town with
adolescents who are in search of a good time. Boyle s writing style is face paced. He uses a lot of
metaphors and usually uses more than one metaphor. Boyle like s to establish mood and purpose
by figurative language and fluidity. Boyle was born in 1948 and was a Vietnam vet.
Boyle likes to write about the moral of a problem and has received national attention for this.
Moral blindness is often common in revelation stories. When the two women come up to the lake,
the boys do not tell them about the fate of their friend Al because they believe that silence is
essential. Boyle s fiction show s that the post modernist fiction is capable of mastering the
contemporary world. Boyle s work illustrates the world as one without an ethical dimension.

Childcare Is An Attractive Business Opportunity
Background
Childcare in Australia reflects a market system, providing an attractive business opportunity, as the
Commonwealth guarantees up to 50% of the organisations income. However, markets and
childcare are a poor combination, with the price of quality services increasing, leaving individuals
of low socio economic status (SES) with poorer quality education (Phillips, 2009).
Currently, childcare in Australia encourages inflation and does not incentivise women to work
(FactCheck, 2015). The Commonwealth provides 3 primary payments, The Childcare Benefit
(CCB), The Childcare Rebate (CCR) and the Jobs, Education and Training Childcare Fee Assistance
(JETCCFA). Further details are in Appendix A.

This essentially doubled the price the consumer was willing to pay. In a supply and demand
market, this allowed the supplier to charge more, leading to hyperinflated prices.
The benchmark price means that the Commonwealth will pay 50% of the cost of the childcare, up
to a certain amount. For example, with a benchmark of $10/hour, parents would receive no more
compensation for $30/hour childcare than for $20/hour care.
Changes for low income earners (LIEs)
Those earning under $65,000/year may receive up to 12 hours of childcare/week with no activity
test, reduced from 24. The Childcare subsidy for these LIEs will be 85% of the fee, or the
benchmark price whichever is lower.
Changes for middle income earners (MIEs)
For MIEs, the childcare subsidy will be either 50% of the fees charged, or the benchmark price
whichever is lower.
There will be no cap on the amount of subsidies MIEs and LIEs can receive.
Changes for high income earners (HIEs)
HIE s cap will increase to $10,000 per child, from $7,500 received through the CCR. Their
childcare subsidy will be either 50% of fees, or the benchmark price whichever is lower.
Introduction of Nannies
The Government proposed an In Home Care program, permitting Nannies to deliver services to
those whose needs do not suit traditional childcare centres, such shift workers and those in remote

Divine Command Theory On Abortion
The theological approach to understanding morality is best described with the Divine Command
Theory. According to Thiroux and Krasemann (2006), Divine Command Theory states that morality
is based not upon the consequences of actions or rules, nor upon self interest or other interestedness,
but rather upon something higher than these mere mundane events of the imperfect human or
natural worlds. In the context of pro life; morally speaking, it suggests that human life is a gift
from a higher power God. Additionally, it suggests that God defines human life taking on varying
forms ranging from that of an adult all the way to that consisting of a baby in the womb. Aligning
with the principles detailed in the Divine Command Theory, moral and ethical guidance to the child

Fluoride Argumentative Essay

What if you found out that the water in your house was poisoning you and your family? How
would you feel knowing that the water your family uses everyday might slowly be killing them?
Many people believe that the government is secretly poisoning communities across the country by
putting fluoride in our tap water. Others believe that fluoride is a safe product that benefits us.
Most scientists and researchers are split on whether fluoride is harmful or not. The United States

In this essay we will be looking to see if fluoride should be in our water supply or not.

Fluoride is the only chemical added into our water for the purpose of medical treatment. It is

How Technology Has Changed The Modern World
Robotics have been traced back thousands of years. Robot like machines were mentioned in
ancient legends as well as in classical mythology. Mechanical servants were said to work as
handmaidens and clay robots allegedly helped fight enemies. Hephaestus, Greek god of fire and
metal craft, even had robotic three legged tables that helped him around his workshop. But an
ancient engineer named Yan Shi is credited by many for building the first real automata, which
meant self operating machine. This was during the Zhou dynasty in around 1000 BCE/CE. In 350
BCE/CE a Greek mathematician and philosopher named Archytas created a mechanical bird that
was propelled by steam. The Pigeon could fly more than 650 feet (200m), long before airplanes
were invented.
During 1st century AD, Heron of Alexandria described other machines that would later be the
beginnings of modern robotics. He designed robotic clocks, kitchen appliances and coin operated
machines. Other early robot mechanisms were built simply for entertainment. Early engineers
created delightful moving mechanical puppets, musicians, and dancers.
The first modern robot is considered to be the radio controlled boat designed and built by inventor
Nikola Tesla and made public in 1898. A wireless transmitter made the boat move, turn, and flash
its lights. Even though robots were soon built using on the same basic principles as Tesla s boat,
they were not yet able to perform pre programmed tasks. Once that hurdle was

Manifestation of Communism
Marx, K. F. Engels Bourgeois and proletarians

Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.1) said The history of all hitherto existing society is the
history of class struggles. (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.1) This is the opening text from
Marx and it is the theme of the rest of the chapter. Marx writes of the oppression of the proletarians
and how the capitalist bourgeoisie have commodified them. He describes his disapproval for the
capitalists stating that there is revolt from the proletariats due to the exploitation that was taking
place, this would be the same for any capitalist society. Throughout the text there is the overriding

Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that
this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the
economy.
Marx s idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production
is social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said Of all the
classes that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really
revolutionary class (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the
laborers where the individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their
rights and become equal. They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a
power over the Bourgeois because with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason
I disagree with socialism is because price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for
goods and services cannot be rationally allocated if the individuals aren t earning income in a free
market. If all individuals receive an equal income and everything is shared then what is the
incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to earn a higher wage then individuals may be less
motivated. Decreased motivation means that there will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a
decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer. The last argument against socialism is

1985).
Deadly force is the last one (General, 1985). Deadly force is force which in an obvious statement
causes death to the suspect, most often with reasonable means in order to protect and serve the
community (General, 1985). Examples would be purposely firing a gun in the direction of another
person or at a vehicle, building or structure that another person is believed to be constitutes deadly
force (General, 1985). A threat to cause death or serious bodily harm, by withdrawing of a
weapon, does not constitute deadly force (General, 1985). The use of force is as old as law
enforcement itself, dating back to when they first began. It was

Italian Economy and Culture Essay example
Italy Economy
Italy is a country facing economic and political upheaval. With a Parliament pressing hard to pass
reforms designed ultimately for leading to the resignation of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
Italy is in fact a country in economic turmoil. If we evaluate the state of the economy, it does leave
little room to deny this current economic crisis has been years in the making. So now, it will be left
to a new Prime Minister to solve financial problems decades in the making that are central to the
debt crisis now dragging down the European and the global economies. Just this month we have
witnessed, hundreds of protesters, most of them young people, demonstrating outside the Treasury
Ministry building, protesters were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the government has so far failed to introduce the structural reforms needed to boost Italy s
growth now estimated to be around 1.0% this year.
Italy s debt stands at 1.9 trillion EU ($2.6 trillion US), or 120% of gross domestic product.
Compare that to the combined Greece, Ireland and Portugal s debt around 640 billion as at full
year 2010, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Italy faces around 380 billion in bond repayments and deficit costs by the end of 2012, according
to Evolution Securities analyst Elisabeth Afseth. Its next major payment is 26 billion, due in
February next year. With its funding costs now over 7%, that could prove a huge hurdle.
The oft quoted 7% figure is, by and large, arbitrary. It is regarded as the level at which countries
can no longer fund themselves but depends on how long it stays at that level and how much the
country needs to raise. Italy, ministers are scheduled to sign off on a package of tax increases
and spending cuts in the upcoming weeks. Some of the expected measures include an increase in
the retirement age for many workers, a hike in income tax for higher income brackets and new
taxes on private assets and housing. The measures come at the start of one of the most crucial
weeks since the creation of the single currency more than a decade ago with European leaders

The Work At Home Policy
Introduction
Every code of companies have the pros and cons, so does work at home policy which KGDV
was trying to introduce. Whether the company decided to expand work at home policy at fast
speed or slow down the expansion, the side effects caused by the policy that may bring about high
moral hazard in the company would become most likely apparent in the long run and should be
observed. In order to demonstrate appropriate proposals for the problem, the essay will first outline
two issues of the programme. Then, how to build up trusts and encourage workers to communicate
to minimize the side effects from the aspect of leadership theories will be carefully argued. Finally,
a summary of proposals will be shown.
Two Side effects of the policy
There are two side effect issues that should be considered. Firstly Social deprivation is harmful
especially for KPO consulting firms such as KGDV because the projects which the company
undertook the offers of are basically allocated to teams and professional knowledge and numerous
information related to projects must be informed well among all the members of the team. As quoted
by Susanne Braun that nowadays, organizations predominantly team based structures require
leaders to lead and motivate not only individuals but also teams as a whole (2007, quoted in
Braun, Peus, Weisweiler, and Frey, 2013, p.270), how leaders of teams behave with members of the
teams is one of the great factors to maintain the company s high morale. Secondly,

Differences Between 2081 Harrison Bergeron
In the short story 2081 Harrison Bergeron is strong and is smart his appearance is appealing and
he s a giant. Since the government has become so strict on following the 213 amendments in the
year of 2081 nobody is legally allowed to be above the average. The average in the story is
considered to be unintelligent and ugly. This point tells us that fourteen year old Harrison Bergeron
cannot be able to walk around like anyone else. Harrison and many others become disabled and
had to wear earpieces that scatter their thoughts every twenty seconds and wearing weights around
their necks or waists, and masks to cover themselves. Harrison escapes from jail, and takes off his
handicaps, on television. Meanwhile, his father is watching the T.V. Harrison tries to take down the
US government but gets killed by Dianna the governor and his parents George and Hazel did not

George and Hazel had no idea about the fact that their son had died in front of them on the
television. There were a few differences between the film and short story. Harrison wasn t a
giant or a fourteen year old in the movie. While in the book he was a giant and fourteen years
old. There was one big difference In the book, after there was an interrupting news flash a reporter
struggled to read than he finally gave up, he handed it to a ballerina I think the movie missed an
important point like this because the ballerina had a beautiful voice comparing to her monotone
voice which she was supposed to use on television. not showing how disabled everyone is changing
the ballerina s position to another man s monotone

Symbolism In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
In the poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, the meaning of the piece varies on the readers`
perspective. Some think that this is one of happy memories between a son and father. Others think
that the waltz covers up the truth of child cruelty. In my opinion, the symbolism and the imagery in
My Papas Waltz gave me the automatic thoughtof the abusive relationship between the father and
son. But after investigating the poem I could begin to see the positive side.
After reading the first line of Roethke s piece, My Papas Waltz, I automatically assumed this poem
had negative meaning. The first couple lines state, The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy (Lines 1 2). Meaning the father has been drinking, and not just a
little. He was so drunk that even the smell of his breath could make his son, feel a bit light
headed. Alcohol makes people do crazy things so this could possibly give the father the idea and
the ability to harm the child. Because in most cases it is not a great situation when a drunken
adult presents himself to a child. This poem could be comprehended as a description of a young
boy s experience of abuse from his father. But I hang on like death seems to show a child s
frightful feeling from having to face a drunken father. The image in my head here is that of the
father and his child kitchen around the kitchen with the boy having to hold on like death because it
s a scary situation for the young boy. To emphasize the helplessness of the

Inhibit Moral Behavior
A moral inhibitor is a condition that hinders our moral behavior and leads to acting irrationally. It
arises when the right thing to do, and the action that is being performed are not the same. In the
next 600 words, I will present and explain a heuristic that inhibits moral behavior. I will then
speak of a situation that is an example of a heuristic. I will also describe what steps to take in the
described situation to help ensure moralbehavior. Moral behavior is an aspect of our humanity that
is essentially learned at a very young age. Our moral behavior is sculpted based on our culture and
our surroundings. It is responsible for the actions we choose to commit. When our moral behavior
is inhibited, we stray away from the right thing to do and act in ways that would seem malicious
and cruel to a rational bystander. Social and situational context can explain what induces moral
people to act in heinous ways. A heuristic is a mental shortcut that readily comes to mind and
simplifies cognitive tasks. The solution itself is not perfect or guaranteed to be optimal, but it is
enough to satisfy the immediate goals (1). A heuristic affects moral behavior by invoking automatic
evaluations, which strongly influence judgements and actions and can... Show more content on

Every public zoo has in their possession, sedatives for the animals. Sedatives that could have
bought some time and take control of the situation, and regain the sense of our moral behavior. A
trained zookeeper, one whom Harambe is very familiar with, could have gone into the enclosure to
calm Harambe and retrieve the boy. Heuristics need to be recognized as departures from normative
theories of ethical decision

Essay about The Americanization Of Canada
When the topic of Canada comes up among peoples, immediately the thought of ice hockey, the
Mounted Police, and beavers comes to mind. In fact, Canada has truly lost its true identity that we
once knew. It is slowly being assimilated and in fact Americanized ; in aspects of social identity,
national identity, and cultural identity.
First, Canada is being slowly Americanized ; in its social identity. When we talk about a country s
social identity, we examine a few areas. First is the media, which is constantly bombarding
Canadians with images and values of American culture. Through the images we see Americans
constantly fighting, either in aspects of global policing in their own backyard with Americans
killing Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First thought that comes to most peoples minds is that of the mounted police, beavers, ice hockey,
and wide land mass. In fact, our national identity has been brought about by the American way of
life. This buying spree essentially started when Walt Disney purchased the Mounted Police s
image o it could be displayed in the Ebcot center. The most powerful, stunning uniform is to be
adorned by some no account, flag waving, hillbilly yokel. Another national image wh8ich spans
all three topics of social, natural and cultural is that of Tim Horton s. The one place where we
all go almost every day, has been bought by an American, Dave Thomas. The image of hockey is
distorted as well for there are 28 teams in the NHL, and only 6 of those teams are based in
Canada. That means that Canada only has 21% of what is considered to be a national sport. The
government image is distorted in the Canadians mind as well. All of the American s television
shows and news would have some Canadians believe that our governments work the same, and all
courts operate in the same way as Judge Judy s and the People s Court. In summary, not only are
Canadians loosing the social identity but their national identity as well.
Third, not only is the Americanization of Canada taking place through the social and national
identities, but also through cultural identities. Canada is viewed as a mosaic and not a melting pot
such as in the States

Improving The Work Force Of Apprenticeships
Improving the Work Force Apprenticeships are the next best thing in the work world. Robert I.
Lerman, Urban Institute, and Jason Tyszko, Executive Director, Center for Education and
Workforce, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, argue weather apprenticeships are an
effective way to train today s workforce. CQ Research recently published a pro con article
Apprenticeships were the two authors argue their side to the readers by using the rhetorical
analysis using logos, ethos, and pathos. Robert I. Lerman is in favor of using apprenticeships in
today s workforce for millions of Americans. He uses rhetorical analysis to appeal to the readers.
The first one is pathos which is using feelings, desires, or fears to influence readers. A large scale
apprenticeships system will help the United States deal with several chronic problems. They
include disengagement among high school students; stagnant wages among those without a
bachelor s degree; declining participation among men in the workforce; and skill shortages in a
range of occupations (Lerman 857). Apprenticeships will help the world with the problem of
people not being qualified when the start their job. If people do apprenticeships in high school
and college, they will be more qualified for the job and will succeed more than their coworkers if
they do a work study program. The second one he uses is logos which is appealing to readers
common sense, beliefs, or values. Our current academic only approach to

  • 2. Elizabethan Espionage And Its Impact On The Growth And... During a time in England when there was much religious conflict, there was also a need to protect the queen due to her religious beliefs. The protectors who safeguarded Queen Elizabeth I from danger were commonly thought to be her brave knights or constables. However, there was actually a clandestine group of individuals who were charged with a similar duty. Unlike England s military intelligence forces today, a disorganized spy group engaged in espionage for the defense of Renaissance England s important affairs and for Queen Elizabeth herself. Because of this spy ring s successes, Elizabethan espionage had a dramatic impact on the growth and evolution of England as a nation. Ever Since King Henry VIII s departure from the Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another well known leader in Elizabeth s network was Sir Francis Walsingham. Before the throne of Elizabeth I began in 1558, a noble English man, Sir Francis Walsingham, was not in favor of Queen Mary I s authority (MackovГЎ). Instead of abiding to the Mary I s leadership, Francis traveled outside of England until the accession of Elizabeth I. When Sir Walsingham returned to a new ruler in England, he brought with him stronger relations with foreign contacts and knowledge that prove to be significant for a position he attained as Secretary of State. Eventually, Sir Walsingham would further strengthen England s spy group to surveillance the depths within England and abroad for secrets that would prevent harm to England (Watts). In addition to Elizabeth s closest advisers, Robert Dudley was among one of the three leaders who had firm control in Elizabeth I s spy network. Dudley was a member of the queen s privy council and was an appointee of Master of Horses, a position that involved organizing public attendances, progresses, and entertainment for the queen (Somerset, pp. 111). Dudley was Elizabeth I s most favorite out of all her advisers. Both Elizabeth I and Dudley had romantic desires for each other, unfortunately nothing between them would escalate since not too many people were pleased about their relationship (Somerset, pp. 100 03) The queen s newly founded secret service required individuals who could perform tasks ... • 4. What Was The Erie Canal How the Erie Canal Opened the Door to the Western Frontier After the American Revolution, people s thoughts turned to the American West. But while the thought of going west was in a lot of people s minds, so were thoughts of the restrictions making the move almost impossible. The trip to the west was filled with mountains, forests, rivers and even a few waterfalls. How was this transportation of people and goods to take place? Before the Transcontinental Railway, interstate highways and airplanes changed the shape of our country, there was the New York State Erie Canalsystem. Although the idea of a canal was perceived in the late 1700 s, it wasn t until the 1790 s that locks and canals on the Mohawk River allowed for boat travel from Schenectady to Oswego and to Seneca Lake in the Finger lakes region of New York. One canal of great significance was the Erie Canal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Drumming Wolf Spider The Wolf spider belongs to the Lycosidae family. They are a part of the Arthropod phylum as they are characterized by having an exoskeleton, coelom, an open circulatory system and body segments with jointed appendages. Arthropods evolved by substituting the coelom for a protective exoskeleton. It was not entirely lost, but still remains in some parts of the reproductive and excretory systems. (Ruppert et al. 2004) Lycosidae are in the Araneae order as they are arthropods with four pairs of legs with chelicerae that contains venomous glands. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Lycosidae uses its chelicerae to hold its prey before using its venomous fangs into paralysing it. (Nicholas, 2011) Similarly, snakes inject venom quickly into its prey and waits for it to immobilise before digesting it, this adaptation prevents preys from escaping and increases its chance of survival. The Wolf spider and Nursery web spider (Pisauridae) are closely related and both exhibit similar but different characteristics which highlights the divergences of the species. They both have eight eyes which puts them in the superfamily Lycosoidea, the Pisauridae has similar sized eyes whilst the wolf spider has two big eyes at the front and six smaller ones. Their maternal care is also alike; the wolf spider carries its egg sac from its spinnerets for 4 6 weeks whilst Pisauridae carries its egg sacs in their chelicerae for 2 3 weeks before building a protective tent to safe guard them in. (Nicholas, 2011). Since Wolf Spiders are poor dispersers (Marshall et al, 2000), they are likely to be affected by human activity such as habitat destruction from land clearing, and pesticides used on crops and grasses. This is likely to affect the Wolf Spider as habitat destruction would not only remove its home, but also cause the removal of prey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martina Rodriguez 27 September 2017 ENG 101 Professor Arancibia In English 101 from a Latinx Perspective, the course has focused on the experiences of Mexican immigrants and their Mexican American children within the novel Pocho by Jose Antonio Villareal. This short novel focuses on the Rubio family. Though the text begins with Juan Rubio as the protagonist, early on, there is a shift and the only son, Richard Rubio becomes the protagonist. The setting of the novel is the early 20th century. The events at the beginning of the novel take place in Mexico just after the end of the Mexican Revolution. The novel then shifts to Santa Clara, California where the Rubio family has settled to begin their lives in the United States. Though Juan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this quote, we see Richard breaking ties with his ethnic origins in Mexico. Instead, he takes on an American identity. He no longer sees himself as a Mexican, but instead sees himself as a Mexican American. This is a textbook definition of assimilation, where one lets go of an identity rooted in a family history and instead creates a new identity based on the context he lives in. Another instance in which assimilation is present is when the Rubio family begins to adopt more and more of American values, particularly Richard s mother, in chapter 8. He describes the process as if their family was taking on the mores of the middles class and it saddened him to see the Mexican tradition begin to disappear (132). Not only does Richard s mother start to gossip with neighbors, she stops taking care of the house and begins to question her husband, taking it as a symbol of freedom from the gender expectations back in Mexico. Villarreal writes, Although he loved his mother, Richard realized that a family could not survive when the woman desired to command, and he knew that his mother was like a starving child who had become gluttonous when confronted with food. She had lived so long in the tradition of her country that she could not help herself now, and abused the privilege of equality afforded the women of her new country. • 7. Michael Heim s Virtual Reality Michael Heim describes virtual reality as an event or entity that is real in effect but not in fact . He states, There is a sense in which any simulation makes something real that in fact is not . In his essay, The Essence of VR, Heim goes on to define this term by examining the seven divergent concepts currently guiding VR research , which is stimulation, interaction, artificiality, immersion, telepresence, full body immersion, and network communications (1993:109 114). Heim notes that certain analysts attempt to dodge the term virtual reality since it appears to make great cases for it. At MIT and NASA, they incline toward virtual situations, and a few colleges would rather there be virtual planets. As a thinker, Heim is not reluctant to make extraordinary and respectable cases for virtual reality, which he recommends may reasonably be viewed as the Holy Grail of machine exploration: Perhaps the substance of VR in the long run lies not in engineering yet in craftsmanship, maybe specialty of the most noteworthy request. The yellow raft is so precious to Rayona that the yellow raft symbolizes the life that Rayona is desperate for, but she cannot and most likely will never have. • 9. Romanticism In The Devil And Tom Walker William Shakespeare, one of the most prominent writers in the English language, compared life with nature through his statement, And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in the stones, and good in everything. As Shakespeare brings forth a parallel between life and the nature world, he uses romanticismcharacteristics to exemplifies his purpose. This technique translates to The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving and The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Romanticism characteristic are displayed within the previous tittles through awe of nature, and interest in the common man. To begin, in the short story The Devil and Tom Walker , awe of nature is used to convey both the mood and meaning of the narrative. Irving creates a setting that is dark in spirt as Tom Walker makes his way through the woods. In this excerpt, the reader can visualize Walker s surroundings through the natural pessimistic atmosphere of the woods, The swamp was thickly grown with great gloomy pines and hemlocks, some of them ninety feet high; which made it dark at noonday, and a retreat for all the owls of the neighborhood. It was full of pits and quagmires, partly covered with weeds and mosses; where the green surface often betrayed the Bakke 2 traveler into a gulf of black smothering mud; there were also dark and stagnant pools, the abodes of the tadpole, the bull frog, and the water snake, and where trunks of pines and hemlocks lay half drowned, half rotting, looking like alligators, sleeping in the mire. (Irving 2) In this passage, nature is portrayed as ominous and foreboding. There is a slight hint of death within the abeyance of the forest. This is shown by the half drowned and half rotting trees. This creates a complex connection between Walker and his surroundings. The intertwine of corruption and immorality is shown through the vile aspects of the various pants and animals that live within the woods. As Walker trudges along, the ongoing wicked display of the forest pushes the reader s emotions into an unsettling state. Intern, foreshadowing Walker s sinful decisions when he encounters a forbidding force, the devil. Thus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our mission statement is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. To me, this mission statement is especially important to our location because the children who go to this club are from an extremely underserved neighborhood, and most of them do not have a desirable role model or parent to look up to at home. Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Essay baseball is purer than life Jonathan Zajac Professor Palke 26 September 2014 1345 Words Piano Sonata No. 14 Moonlight Sonata Music has been surrounding the human race since nature itself whistled through the earth s first oak leaves. Throughout the centuries upon centuries of existence, music has developed and adapted into what plays today through car radios across the world. Ludwig van Beethoven himself helped pioneer music into what we understand of it in today s day and age. Piano Sonata No. 14 commonly referred to as the Moonlight Sonata is the perfect example of a musical cairn. This piece has three individual movements that can stand on their own, yet turn the sonata as a whole into a masterpiece, speaks through both profundity and grace, and retains many of the musical elements that cause sonatas such as this to maintain relevancy throughout the test of time. What was slow is now fast; mystery is now understanding; cringing is now comfort. Most importantly, what was mournful is now buoyant. • 12. The Third Movement Of Johann Sebastian Bach Johann Sebastian Bach lived in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750. In Leipzig, he was the music director of the Collegium Musicum, which presented a series of evening concerts that brought visitors and musical talent to the city. An example of the repertoire presented in these concerts would be Bach s harpsichord concertos, which were arrangements of other concertos for different instruments. According to Pankratz, these concertos (both for the original instrument and harpsichord) were written with didactic purposes, meaning that they were supposed to help the students improve their musical skills. Following Pankratz s idea of Bach being a music director with instructive goals, this paper suggests that the third movement of the Harpsichord Concerto No.5 in F minor, BWV 1056 by Johann Sebastian Bachis a prime example of his pedagogic influence in Leipzig, represented by the constant interaction between the soloist and the ripieno. This is symbolic of the teacher student relation Bach had with the students, as he would often be the solo performer in the evening concerts and the students would play the ripieno parts. The interaction between the soloist and the ripieno comes in various forms: advanced counterpoint, dynamics, dialogue, and/or harmonic changes. The work features three ritornello themes in which we find all these interactions. The first theme (R1) is the main theme and it is four measures long. The interaction is presented with the soloist simply playing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is an excellent novel, written by James Joyce, about the life of Stephen Dedalus and how he overcame the barriers of his family and his religion to pursue his life as a writer. Drawing on details based on his own early life, Joyce provides us with insight into how his own imagination worked (Gose, 267). Extensive use of stream of consciousness, which represent the character s inner thoughts and perceptions, and like human thoughts jumping from one thought to the next, oftentimes make Portrait a hard reading. This is however intentional as Joyce wants his readers to be obliged to re create his own space in the inner universe of the text, to participate in a sort of intransitive discourse, one that bears no п¬Ѓxed meaning in relation to external reality which tends, in fact, to destroy referentiality and with it, the readers sense of balance (Sabatini, 95). Joyce wants his readers to experience Stephen s inner thoughts starting from a young age, and to see the world from his perspective. Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow coming along the road and this moocow that was coming down along the road met a nicens little boy named baby tuckoo.... (Joyce, 5). This Guest Post Essay This guest post was written by Sarah Anderson. flag With all that s happened in the turning tides of the political climate in Washington DC, I find a misquote of an original Albert Einstein quote to be appropriate: Everything should be as simple as it can be, but not simpler. It s obvious we live in a divisive time. But lately I ve started to wonder if we live in an oversimplified one as well. I wonder if our heightened emotions have mistakenly led us to believe things were much more straightforward then they are. We feel so passionately about so much. And the louder our voices get, the deeper our convictions go. We are certain unity is possible. (If only the other side who could begin to see things our way.) It s simple. But it s not. Who see the humanity in those who take the same positions we do, and in those who are bitterly opposed. Who believe to simplify the cause is to undermine the cause. And that to reduce the issues to the lowest common denominator is to reduce the personhood of those who don t agree with us. We are the new revolutionaries who know that nothing is as simple as it appears, that things are more murky than maybe either side feels comfortable admitting, and that the act of not belonging anywhere is in and of itself belonging and taking a stand somewhere. This too takes courage, self reflection, and conviction. We are not copping out, selling out, or flaking out. We are leaning in, we are tuning in, and we are giving in to something larger than our need to feel comfortable. We are learning to live in the in between. So. Is anyone with ... • 16. Is Ethics Promoted By Human Resource Management Affects... The purpose of this paper is to examine the manner in which ethics promoted by human resource management affects the operations of an organization. The human resource management is responsible for implementing the accepted behavior of the stakeholders to ensure that the company runs smoothly. The company is dependent on the human resource in maintaining and promoting ethical behaviors as it has the responsibility of educating, training and communicating the behavior of the stakeholders. This paper clarifies the manner in which the human resource management engages in various operative activities for instance protecting the company from infringing the set laws and regulations through practicing unethical behaviors. It is very easy for the human resource management to implement a code of ethicsthrough the established policies of the company that establishes the ethical behavior and helps in governing the daily activities of the organization. It is evident that promoting ethics yields more benefits to the organization as for instance the employees are motivated thereby increasing the productivity of the company. The theoretical consideration on ethics in business focuses on the ecological as well as social responsibilities of a company within a community as ethics are regarded an important aspect in the external self presentation and the perception of the organization in economic terms (KГ¶ster, 2002). • 17. The Effects Of Alcoholism On The Individual Health When talking about alcoholism, we have to take into consideration all of the effects that the alcohol use and misuse have, not only on the individual and its family but on the whole society as well. More or less people drink because they want to socialize and some people drink because they think that with the alcohol they will recover a solution or make their problems easier. Alcohol can have big implications on the individual health. The individual that is an alcoholic or that has alcohol related problems can be more prone to different diseases. • 18. Contribution Of Indian Nationalism The Indian independence movement was simply a response to British colonialism and oppression of the Indian subcontinent inhabitants. Indian nationalism was the most crucial factor of Indian independence, because it resulted in the swadeshi movement and national heros that joined the different people of India. Shivaji preceded Mohandas Gandhi, but both were among the first national heros. Indian national heroes are closely connected to Indian nationalism, but it is critically important to first understand Indian Nationalism. Indian nationalism was illustrated by people of Indian independence movement only in an effort to connect the various races of India. Nationalism can be described as the loyalty and devotion to one nation. Nationalists tend to exalt a nation, which is a group of people that care commonalities such as language, religion, traditions, customs, and habits. Growing up, I was incredibly curious to unravel how devices function, and this curiosity developed into a burning desire to learn how processes, systems, and organizations operate and run our world. From an early age I used to read science books, journals, magazines and watch engineering documentaries driven by my eagerness to gain a better understanding of the mechanism by which our world system is working. All through my Bachelor program, I was attracted to the idea of developing a more effective technique to generate power of the solar system using smart technology. Driven by a desire to tackle the global warming phenomenon, I decided to carry out my final year project work on a solar power generation device, where I came up with an innovative method and designed a dual axis model which used the solar power to operate and produce renewable energy with improved efficiency. The Conscription Crisis Of World War One A famous quote by Canadian Prime Minister, Mackenzie King, in World War Two is, Conscription if necessary, but not necessarily conscription (Persico, 199). The conscription crisis during World War One and World War Two had a negative effect on Canadian society. First of all, the Conscription Crisis of World War One, taking place between 1917 and 1918, introduced many important events for Canadian history. Furthermore, in World War Two, conscription is established yet again between 1944 and 1945. This reintroduction of conscription took place for many reasons, and led to a negative impact throughout Canada. Lastly, many people attempted to prevent conscription, such as Prime Minister McKenzie King. Therefore the conscription crisis of World War One had a negative effect on Canada. Conscription was initially created during The Great War, also known as World War One, by Canada s Prime Minister Robert Borden. Robert Borden introduced the Conscription Bill, also known as the Military Service Act. Canada introduced Conscription for many reasons, but mainly due to the lack of volunteers. Casualties were rising and fewer men were volunteering for a sure death in no man s land (Perisco, 198). By the beginning of October 1914, 30,000 Canadians volunteered for war. However, enlistments fell and the number dropped drastically when men began to recognize the number of casualties caused by battle. Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45 and 32 04 on the scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin s much expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian people. The piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below. Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests was composed very carefully. The three strikes law increases prison sentence for people convicted of a felony. By 2003 over half of the states and federal government had enacted the three strike laws . The expectation behind it was to get career criminals off the street for the good of the public. However, the laws have their connoisseurs who charge sentences that are often excessive to the crimes committed and that incarcerate of three strike inmates for 25 years to life. • 40. Manifestation of Communism Marx, K. F. Engels Bourgeois and proletarians Tom Considine Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.1) said The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.1) This is the opening text from Marx and it is the theme of the rest of the chapter. Marx writes of the oppression of the proletarians and how the capitalist bourgeoisie have commodified them. He describes his disapproval for the capitalists stating that there is revolt from the proletariats due to the exploitation that was taking place, this would be the same for any capitalist society. Throughout the text there is the overriding idea that society would benefit with equality and public ownership (socialism). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the economy. Marx s idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production is social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said Of all the classes that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really revolutionary class (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the laborers where the individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their rights and become equal. They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a power over the Bourgeois because with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason I disagree with socialism is because price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for goods and services cannot be rationally allocated if the individuals aren t earning income in a free market. If all individuals receive an equal income and everything is shared then what is the incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to earn a higher wage then individuals may be less motivated. Decreased motivation means that there will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer. The last argument against socialism is that it the advancement of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Deadly force is force which in an obvious statement causes death to the suspect, most often with reasonable means in order to protect and serve the community (General, 1985). Examples would be purposely firing a gun in the direction of another person or at a vehicle, building or structure that another person is believed to be constitutes deadly force (General, 1985). • 42. Italian Economy and Culture Essay example Italy Economy Italy is a country facing economic and political upheaval. With a Parliament pressing hard to pass reforms designed ultimately for leading to the resignation of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Italy is in fact a country in economic turmoil. If we evaluate the state of the economy, it does leave little room to deny this current economic crisis has been years in the making. So now, it will be left to a new Prime Minister to solve financial problems decades in the making that are central to the debt crisis now dragging down the European and the global economies. Italy s debt stands at 1.9 trillion EU ($2.6 trillion US), or 120% of gross domestic product. Compare that to the combined Greece, Ireland and Portugal s debt around 640 billion as at full year 2010, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Italy faces around 380 billion in bond repayments and deficit costs by the end of 2012, according to Evolution Securities analyst Elisabeth Afseth. Its next major payment is 26 billion, due in February next year. With its funding costs now over 7%, that could prove a huge hurdle. The oft quoted 7% figure is, by and large, arbitrary. It is regarded as the level at which countries can no longer fund themselves but depends on how long it stays at that level and how much the country needs to raise. • 43. The Work At Home Policy Introduction Every code of companies have the pros and cons, so does work at home policy which KGDV was trying to introduce. Whether the company decided to expand work at home policy at fast speed or slow down the expansion, the side effects caused by the policy that may bring about high moral hazard in the company would become most likely apparent in the long run and should be observed. In order to demonstrate appropriate proposals for the problem, the essay will first outline two issues of the programme. Then, how to build up trusts and encourage workers to communicate to minimize the side effects from the aspect of leadership theories will be carefully argued. Finally, a summary of proposals will be shown. Two Side effects of the policy There are two side effect issues that should be considered. Firstly Social deprivation is harmful especially for KPO consulting firms such as KGDV because the projects which the company undertook the offers of are basically allocated to teams and professional knowledge and numerous information related to projects must be informed well among all the members of the team. As quoted by Susanne Braun that nowadays, organizations predominantly team based structures require leaders to lead and motivate not only individuals but also teams as a whole (2007, quoted in Braun, Peus, Weisweiler, and Frey, 2013, p.270), how leaders of teams behave with members of the teams is one of the great factors to maintain the company s high morale. Since the government has become so strict on following the 213 amendments in the year of 2081 nobody is legally allowed to be above the average. The average in the story is considered to be unintelligent and ugly. This point tells us that fourteen year old Harrison Bergeron cannot be able to walk around like anyone else. Harrison and many others become disabled and had to wear earpieces that scatter their thoughts every twenty seconds and wearing weights around their necks or waists, and masks to cover themselves. Harrison escapes from jail, and takes off his handicaps, on television. Meanwhile, his father is watching the T.V. • 45. Symbolism In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke In the poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, the meaning of the piece varies on the readers` perspective. Some think that this is one of happy memories between a son and father. Others think that the waltz covers up the truth of child cruelty. In my opinion, the symbolism and the imagery in My Papas Waltz gave me the automatic thoughtof the abusive relationship between the father and son. But after investigating the poem I could begin to see the positive side. After reading the first line of Roethke s piece, My Papas Waltz, I automatically assumed this poem had negative meaning. The first couple lines state, The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy (Lines 1 2). Meaning the father has been drinking, and not just a little. He was so drunk that even the smell of his breath could make his son, feel a bit light headed. Alcohol makes people do crazy things so this could possibly give the father the idea and the ability to harm the child. Because in most cases it is not a great situation when a drunken adult presents himself to a child. This poem could be comprehended as a description of a young boy s experience of abuse from his father. But I hang on like death seems to show a child s frightful feeling from having to face a drunken father. The image in my head here is that of the father and his child kitchen around the kitchen with the boy having to hold on like death because it s a scary situation for the young boy. To emphasize the helplessness of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Inhibit Moral Behavior A moral inhibitor is a condition that hinders our moral behavior and leads to acting irrationally. It arises when the right thing to do, and the action that is being performed are not the same. In the next 600 words, I will present and explain a heuristic that inhibits moral behavior. I will then speak of a situation that is an example of a heuristic. I will also describe what steps to take in the described situation to help ensure moralbehavior. Moral behavior is an aspect of our humanity that is essentially learned at a very young age. Our moral behavior is sculpted based on our culture and our surroundings. It is responsible for the actions we choose to commit. When our moral behavior is inhibited, we stray away from the right thing to do and act in ways that would seem malicious and cruel to a rational bystander. Social and situational context can explain what induces moral people to act in heinous ways. A heuristic is a mental shortcut that readily comes to mind and simplifies cognitive tasks. The solution itself is not perfect or guaranteed to be optimal, but it is enough to satisfy the immediate goals (1). A heuristic affects moral behavior by invoking automatic evaluations, which strongly influence judgements and actions and can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 47. Essay about The Americanization Of Canada When the topic of Canada comes up among peoples, immediately the thought of ice hockey, the Mounted Police, and beavers comes to mind. In fact, Canada has truly lost its true identity that we once knew. It is slowly being assimilated and in fact Americanized ; in aspects of social identity, national identity, and cultural identity. First, Canada is being slowly Americanized ; in its social identity. When we talk about a country s social identity, we examine a few areas. First is the media, which is constantly bombarding Canadians with images and values of American culture. Through the images we see Americans constantly fighting, either in aspects of global policing in their own backyard with Americans killing Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First thought that comes to most peoples minds is that of the mounted police, beavers, ice hockey, and wide land mass. In fact, our national identity has been brought about by the American way of life. This buying spree essentially started when Walt Disney purchased the Mounted Police s image o it could be displayed in the Ebcot center. The most powerful, stunning uniform is to be adorned by some no account, flag waving, hillbilly yokel. Another national image wh8ich spans all three topics of social, natural and cultural is that of Tim Horton s. The one place where we all go almost every day, has been bought by an American, Dave Thomas. The image of hockey is distorted as well for there are 28 teams in the NHL, and only 6 of those teams are based in Canada. That means that Canada only has 21% of what is considered to be a national sport. The government image is distorted in the Canadians mind as well. All of the American s television shows and news would have some Canadians believe that our governments work the same, and all courts operate in the same way as Judge Judy s and the People s Court. In summary, not only are Canadians loosing the social identity but their national identity as well. Third, not only is the Americanization of Canada taking place through the social and national identities, but also through cultural identities. CQ Research recently published a pro con article Apprenticeships were the two authors argue their side to the readers by using the rhetorical analysis using logos, ethos, and pathos. Robert I. Lerman is in favor of using apprenticeships in today s workforce for millions of Americans. He uses rhetorical analysis to appeal to the readers. The first one is pathos which is using feelings, desires, or fears to influence readers. A large scale apprenticeships system will help the United States deal with several chronic problems. They include disengagement among high school students; stagnant wages among those without a bachelor s degree; declining participation among men in the workforce; and skill shortages in a range of occupations (Lerman 857). Apprenticeships will help the world with the problem of people not being qualified when the start their job. If people do apprenticeships in high school and college, they will be more qualified for the job and will succeed more than their coworkers if they do a work study program. The second one he uses is logos which is appealing to readers common sense, beliefs, or values. Our current academic only approach to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
