Ames Room Essay
The visual perception field is a very old are of study in psychological research. From ancient
Greece to modern day scholars, philospher and psychologists have been studying on visual
perception for centruries. As a result of people studying visual perception for such a lengthy
amount of time, ground breaking researches have been conducted by many observers like Emil
Emmert. In1881 it was found by Emil Emmert that an objects size afterimage seems to vary in
size based on whether it is positioned close or farther away. When near by the object looks small.
And the farther away it gets, the size of the object becomes noticeably larger. It s perceived size is
thought to be fixed on the retina and as it increases the perceived distance is also thought to
increase consecutively. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ames has also restricted the viewers to only observe the room through a peekhole. He also
strategically placed the floors, ceiling and walls by slanting them which manipulated their depth
perception and size constancy. Therefore Ames Room also had an element of suprise. Meanwhile
Emmert s Law did not involved any optical illusions, therefore Emmert regarded the perceived
sizes of the objects in the after image as a reaction of the body to continue psychological function.
According to Emmert s Law the perceptual constancy was thought to happen by multiple depth
perception cues that include; binocular vision, linear perspective and monocular cue. In contrast to
Emmert s Law in Ames Room Illusion there are 2 illusions that take place. By looking through a
peeping whole with one eye, the peephole eliminates all the depth perception cues and causes the
room to appear like a regular cubic room. The other illusion is the fact that objects swtich sizes as
they swap places in the room. This leds all the distance cues to be abolished as

Adultery defined as a sex relationship between a married woman and a man other than her

is a sex between a married person and someone who is not their husband or wife (18). Indeed,
Adultery sometimes becomes something crucial in our society. As an addition, in certain societies

The Garbage Of Trash Garbage
Community Trash Pickup Trash, also known as litter is a very big concern everywhere in the
world. Litter is nothing but a piece of waste or rubbish that has been disposed improperly, without
consent and at wrong location. Littering simply means throwing away objects on the ground or
leaving them lying on the ground instead of disposing them at garbage can, recyclingbin or trash
container. (What is Litter? ) It is very concerning that there are only a few people who would
like to make a change within their own community. The trash laying alongside the highways is
very distracting, it makes you want to stop and pick it up. Many people who feel such a way
decide that they need to come up with a plan that could get their community involved. The
environment that we live in needs to be treated better, if only humans could take a second look
at what it actually does look like. There are so many ideas and ways trash could be taken care of
instead of just being disposed alongside the highways, on the streets, or anywhere else it does
not belong besides in a garbage can. It is very disappointing that many people do not even care at
all that the mother earth is very trashy. However, there are a few good people out there who take
their time to keep their community looking nice and clean. It is surprising when you do notice the
few places that you travel by are clean. Some ways that a community can get motivated in trash
pickup would be to start off with your friends who

How Does Anne Bradstreet Present Her Husband
Anne Bradstreet was one of the most noticeable Puritan poet. She was an educated woman and this
gave her advantage to write about history, politics, religion, medicine and spirituality. She was
considered to be a devoted wife, a loving mother and a very sensitive poet. She wrote poetry
because she thoroughly enjoyed it and family, husband, and, children were the main subjects of her
poetry.
Puritans valued marriage as a blessing from the heavens. It was considered to be a partnership

Does The Fruit Fly Experiment
Introduction
The purpose of this conducting this lab is to see how the rocket can be changed physically to
make it fly higher up after being launched. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also
have to test to see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from
cracking/breaking. Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that
the higher the PSI the higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design
The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?.
The independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how
high the rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi.
Hypothesis
If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket
will fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher.
Test
Materials
2 cans of Insulated Foam Sealant
3 soda bottles

I predicted that the higher PSI would force the rocket to go higher. I feel as though to the results
differed from the hypothesis because the air pressure pump was broken when group 1 was
launching the rocket. Second, we could not keep all the constants the same since we had
different people building each rocket as well as each parachute. Lastly, we can t be sure the data
is accurate because we only have two group s data so we can t check the data and see if there is
a pattern. Ways to improve these errors could be to have one group work on the rockets. Another
group taking all the data so one group doesn t forget to put in the data. The last group to launch
the rocket. We would also need to be sure that all of the parachutes are the same as the math
groups we worked with did not take down what we needed to be built to match and instead did
whatever they wanted to

Evaluation Of The Organization s Service Delivery Essay
Part I: Strategic Review of the Organization s Service Delivery
The National Screening Unit (NSU) was established in 2001. It is an organisation that provides
health screening programmes in New Zealand by providing services to people and diagnosing the
health issues in order to reassure they are healthy. National Screening Unit divide people into two
category; the population who are prone of having any disease (positive screening result) and those
who do not have any chance of acquiring a disease (negative screening result) (NSU, 2014). The
screening unit programme reveals some conditions and then there is chance to diminish developing
any disease or to save someone from dying. National Screening Unit provides services through their
five programmes and one quality improvement initiative programme to people. Firstly, the
Antenatal HIV Screening (NSU, 2014). The programme is not meant for women who are diagnosed
with HIV but the women who are suspected to have the disease to minimise the chance of
transferring the virus to the foetus. The main objective is to guarantee that women are offered HIV
screening along with their first pregnancy so that transmission of virus can be counteracted.
According to New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF) the people can take advantage of their
services like free counselling, HIV prevention through information dissemination. Secondly, the

Genetic Counselor Personal Statement
Throughout my college career, I have been fortunate to experience many opportunities to immerse
myself in the field of genetic counseling through phone interviews, job shadows and internships
with a variety of genetic counselors. As a sophomore still seeking to learn more about genetic
counseling, I arranged a telephone interview with Patricia Arscott, a cardiovascular counselor from
the University of Michigan. Patricia answered all of my questions involving the average job duties,
responsibilities and aspects of being a genetic counselor and gave me advice about suggested
college courses to take and resources for more information about the genetic counseling
profession. By the end of the phone call, the zeal with which Patricia described her career firmly
cemented my belief that I wanted to become a genetic counselor and feel just as passionate about
my career too.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The World Is Too Much With Us Personification
Wordsworths The World is Too Much with us is a poem that describes how we, as a society, need
to appreciate the world we live in. Wordsworth feels that we are detached from the world and its
beauty because we have become so careless about how we view the world. For example,
Wordsworth writes, We lay waste our powers; / Little we see in Naturethat is ours;/ We have given
our hearts away, a sordid boon! (2 4). In this passage, Wordsworth talks about how the world and
its nature is significant to mankind because we depend on it, but we choose to overlook it because
we have lost our meaningful connection. We waste our days being ungrateful to the world instead
of appreciating the life it holds. Our world does so much for us and yet... Show more content on

He would like to see the world in a different view so that when he looks at the ocean or the moon,
he would feel less sad. He would see glimpses of things that make him content, things that he only
sees for a second, in the blink of an eye.
Wordsworth uses literary elements such as personification. For example, This Sea that bares her
boson to the moon (5), sleeping flowers , (7) and The winds that will be howling at all hours, these
samples show how Wordsworth gives nature human like qualities. He does this to create character
in nature. Another literary element Wordsworth uses is similes. For example, Wordsworth writes,
The winds that will be howling at all hours, / And are up gathered like
Carr 2 sleeping flowers (7). He uses a simile to compare how the flowers look like they are sleeping,
giving it a human quality.
Another one of Wordsworths poems, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, is about how he is feeling
compared to a cloud. He pretends that he is in his own small universe above the clouds. As he is
wondering above the clouds, he sees a crowd full of daffodils. Wordsworth

Lecter s Antisocial Personality Disorders
Antisocial personality disorder is defined as a type of chronic mental condition in which a person s
ways of thinking, perceiving situations, and relating to others are dysfunctional and (often times)
destructive. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, people with
antisocial personality disordertypically have no regard for right and wrong, and often disregard the
rights, wishes, and feelings of others. They will antagonize, manipulate, or treat others harshly with
callous indifference. They may often violate the law, landing in frequent trouble, yet (they) show no
guilt or remorse. As such, people with this disorder can all too often present both a serious and
legitimate danger both to themselves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hyler, Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center, for better or worse,
movies and television contribute significantly to shaping the public s perception of the mentally
ill and those who treat them. This is to say that the media we are exposed to on a near constant
basis perpetuates certain stereotypes, including (and perhaps particularly) when it comes to
mental patients and psychopathology at large, usually portraying them as rebellious spirits,
homicidal maniacs, seductresses, enlightened members of society, narcissistic parasites, or zoo
specimens. Now, as far as Lecter himself is concerned, he would seem to fit into more than one
of these categories; the argument can certainly be made for at least two of them. First and
foremost, it should be said that Lecter is, out and out, the homicidal maniac in spite of his
charming and personable demeanor, he is both a criminal and murderer who tortures and kills
people with no pity or remorse. However, amongst the other zoo specimens in the facility, Lecter
himself, at a glance, also seems to be enlightened not just for his higher class sophisticate nature,
but because of his unique insight; that which allows him to understand those around him better
than everyone even the most depraved of minds, given the case with Buffalo Bill. Even so, he s
also a fiendishly narcissistic parasite feeding off of lives, secrets, and dark truths. In exchange for

The Broken Head And The Real Friendship
The Broken Head and the Real Friendship The day had been perfect, till I got the call... I awoke
to the smell of light, fluffy pancakes slathered in maple syrup, and greasy, fat bacon, just how I
like it. Shea, come downstairs and eat! We have to leave by 10, My dad yelled from the kitchen.
Our cousins had invited us to go to their lake house at Cedar Creek Lake; we accepted with
enthusiasm because we had never seen it before. Coming right down. I shouted back to my dad.
Hopping out of bed, I pulled on my favorite t shirt and most comfortable shorts, stuffed some
clothes into a small duffel bag, and pounded down the stairs. We left at 11, late as usual. All five
of us squeezed in the silver Volvo, hip to hip, blasting country music as we ventured into the
Dallas suburbs. At 11:35 AM, my phone buzzed and Cammy Davis , my best friend Eliza s
mom, name lit up on the screen. This is odd, Cammy rarely calls me. Shouldn t Eliza call me
instead? Turning down the music, I answered the phone. Hey Cammy! What s up? I asked. Are
you in Dallas? She asked in a panicked voice, but I could hardly hear her because of the
cacophony from the other line. I wondered where she was. Burberry, Eliza s horse, bucked her
off and now Eliza is unconscious, she has been for the last six minutes. I am in an ambulance and
we are going down to Presbyterian Hospital, come if you want. I just thought you should know.

Dreams And Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Dreams
There are many theories about why we dream, some say dreams have no meaning or purpose,
others say dreams are required for emotional, physical and mental health. According to the
activation synthesis model of dreaming theory circuits in the brain become activated during the
REM cycle, which causes areas in the limbic system involved in memories, emotions and sensations
become activated (verywell.com/why do we dreamtop dream theories 2795931). Sigmund Freuds
theory on dreams suggested that dreams represented unconscious desires, thoughts and motivations
(verywell.com/Freudian theory 2795845). Though these thoughts are not consciously expressed,
Freud suggested they make their way into awareness via dreams.
Some people have dreams that are so normal that the dreamers feel as if they re awake and
conscious, this is known as lucid dreams. Sometimes dreams are so real it s hard to determine
between the dream and reality.

He believed by examining dreams he can understand how the unconscious mind works and what it
is trying to hide from conscious awareness. Freud broke down dreams into two different types, the
manifest content of the dream and the latent content. The manifest content of the dream contains all
the images, events, and thoughts contained in the dream, this is fundamentally what the dreamer
remembers upon waking. The latent content is all the hidden and symbolic meanings within the
dream. Freud believed that dreams were essentially a form of wish fulfillment, by taking those
unconscious thoughts and desires and making them into less unacceptable behavior in society

Leadership Styles And Philosophies Of Leadership Essay
Leadership and You Leaders play a crucial role in the society and organizations, especially with
regards to helping the organization achieve its objectives and purposes. These individuals use
varying approaches to leadership that inform their practices in motivating organizational members
towards the accomplishment of common objectives. Through their practices, leaders not only
influence the behaviors of their followers or subordinates but also help in shaping organizational
culture. The use of different leadershipstyles and philosophies is also attributed to the difference in
concept and practices of the leader. Moreover, leaders can improve their effectiveness through
adopting strategies that address the weaknesses of their leadership approaches since every
leadership style or approach has certain weaknesses.
Definition of Leadership Leadership is a term or concept that means different things to different
people depending on the context of where the leadership practice takes place. As a result, different
people have different definitions of what leadership is, which generates considerable problems in
attempts to effectively define leadership. From a personal perspective, leadership is a means for
talented individuals to influence others towards common objectives through sharing their
knowledge and perspectives (Mielach, 2013). This is probably the most suitable definition of
leadership given that the basis of leadership is to influence others regardless of

My Personal Philosophies Of The Classroom
According to the Philosophic Inventory, my two personal educational philosophies are
progressivism and existentialism. These philosophies show that I am likely to try and make a
change within my class and mold my future students to create a positive change in the world. I
will also value the rights of each of my students to believe what they want without fearing
persecution by their classmates or other teachers, regardless of whether I agree with their views.
The results of this assessment were no surprise as they seem to line up with my personal viewpoints
on running a classroom. A progressivist philosophyfocuses on the individuality of each child and the
importance of experimentation and demonstrations in education. In my class, I will be certain to
make my classroom as interactive as possible, with plenty of opportunities to practice concepts
learned in class. Throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to be a student or observer in
many classrooms that have bright colorful decorations and fun interactive portions of the
classroom. This will be a priority for me as I believe that drab boring colors and plain worksheets
make learningmore intimidating and less fun. Having things like reading corners, small computer
labs, and other interactive activities, are fun ways to give students a break from learning while
actually getting them to teach themselves using different resources. By encouraging students to
read and use the computer independently, they will soon

Alexander The Great Tactics
Alexander the Great earned his title. He conquered all of the known world with amazing
strategies and won when he was often out numbered. He had one of the most perfectly
organized, trained and equipped armies of all times. He inherited the army at the age of 20,
when his father was assassinated. His army was usually around 40,000 men and consisted of
phalanx, cavalry, hoplites, and peltasts. Phalanx were the most threatening troops of Alexander s
army. They were blocks of men, 16 across and 16 deep. They had long spears eighteen feet long
called sarissa. They also had a small shield strapped to their shoulders. Calvary are armored men
on horses. They wore bronze helmets and chest plates and carried a spear and sword. The hoplites...

Alexander dressed like his soldiers. He led from the front making him a target for the enemy, but
an inspiration to his army. Alexander got injured many times in battle. He was also kind to his
army, stopping to talk and listen to his soldiers in camp. Alexander was a great military leader.
One battle that shows his amazing strategies is the battle of Gaugamela. It was Darius the
Persian king with about 250,000 men against Alexander the Great with about 45,000. Darius had
his men in a line that stretched about 2.5 miles long. First the Phalanx on the left side moved
away from the center and turned out from battle expecting a side attack. Alexander knew that this
would confuse the enemy and get the enemies cavalry to charge into the open space. Darius sent
his scythed chariots (blades on wheels) out to attack. Alexander knew what to do, the phalanx
went into a U formation to trap and destroy the chariots. Then he turned the calvary to the right
and the Persian cavalry followed. Little did the Persians know peltasts were hiding behind
Alexander s cavalry. Alexander kept going to the right forcing Darius to pull his cavalry out of
the line to avoid being flanked. This opened a gap in the middle of the line. Alexander turned the
cavalry and went for the gap. The peltasts kept the Persian horsemen from following Alexander and
his cavalry. When Alexander made it to the fleeing Darius he

The Qatar Islamic Arts Museum Essay
Introduction:
In this research paper I am going to inform you about the desk research I carried out dealing with a
service related organization. The organization I have chosen for my assignment is Qatar s Islamic
Arts Museum. It is beyond questioning that I have chosen such an organization for various reasons.
It is deeply related to the tourism, hospitality and leisure industry. Besides this, it is a major
contributor to the current development of the cultural and entertainment sector in the state of Qatar.
Furthermore, QIM is meant to bring in more tourists into Qatar. One more thing, Qatar s Islamic
Arts Museum is considered as home to the World s largest collection of Islamic art. To cut it short,

Vision and mission:
As envisaged and shaped by His Highness the Amir of Qatar, the Islamic Arts Museum is to be the
flagship that promotes and showcases not only the Qatari culture, but also the treasures from
across the Islamic world. It also aims to contribute to foster the cultural development in Qatar
through being a center for education, information and research into Islamic Arts. In the years to

bring together people of all ages, people living in the local community and visitors from around the
world for greater understanding of our cultures through the appreciation of art.
Back in time Journey:
Qatar s Islamic Arts Museum will definitely project the vitality, complexity and diversity of
Islamic art objects and collections all over the world. Being home to at least 4,500 objects, but
only about 850 will be on display at any one time, any local or foreign visitor to Qatar s Islamic

Ayaan Hirsi Ali Research Paper
How would you react to someone criticizing your religion? Would you hate them or defend them,
in the name of the First Amendment? This is a question people have been pondering after
listening to Ayaan Hirsi Ali s various interviews and speeches. Ayaan is a Somali born woman
who fled to the Netherlands when she was around 23, to escape the marriage her father had
arranged for her to her cousin. She is known as a big criticizer of the religionof Islam, and this is
largely in part because of her own experiences (which you will learn about later in this paper).
Ayaan possesses many qualities that would make people follow a leader: she shows bravery and
perseverance in continuing to speak out about her opinions on Islam, even though many people...

And as soon as you really take note of it, you re going to have to ask yourself, What have I got to
do with this? . ). She also delves into unsafe territory in saying what she says, which she
acknowledges: People have been warning about this backlash for 30 years. (Bethune). This
shows just how persistent she is (though many people, even other Muslims here in America,
have sent her death threats because of her speeches). These are not just good traits to have for a
leader, but anyone could have these. Being brave, persevering, and persisting are all great skills
to have in this world. They will help you with many things: getting good grades, a job, a raise,
etc. If students like us will take away anything from learning about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, it should be
that you should not be afraid to speak your mind, and to not judge a book by it s cover (because
Ayaan used to be a devout Muslim but is now an outspoken atheist). Everyone disagrees about
Ayaan. They say she shouldn t be so critical of Islam, and that not everyone is bad just because of
their religion. This is a great thing to discuss, because no two people are exactly the same: One
person may think that what she is doing is fine, but someone else may say that Ayaan is being too
harsh to others. Whatever you may believe, you should know that Ayaan Hirsi Ali has changed the

Marx Weber and Durkheim on Religion Essays
A religion can be seen as a unified system of beliefs and practices which are relative to sacred
things and beliefs (Giddens 1972, p.224). It can shape ones thoughts and feelings and gives
people a sense of hope and something to believe in. All three main sociologist writers Karl Marx,
Max Weber and Emile Durkheim offer different perspectives on religionand how important it is to
society. Some of the theorists chose to have a positive view whilst others argue the unimportance
of religion. This essay attempts to discover which theorist has the most accurate perspective of
religion in modern times. This is done by firstly explaining the basic ideas regarding to religion
put forward by Marx, Weber and Durkheim. Then both Marx s and... Show more content on

According to Marx, religion can be seen as the opiate of the people (Engels, Marx 1955, p.41).
Here, Marx is suggesting that just like opium, religion is trying to relieve people of the pain and
suffering in their lives. Marx also puts forward the idea that religion is used by its oppressors in
order to make people feel better about their lives. Thus, it can be seen that Marx chooses to adopt
a negative view of religion. Max Weber can be seen as the only sociologist to place so much scope
and emphasis on the subject of religion (Nisbet, p.250). Biographical and textual evidence suggests
that biblical religion played a part in shaping and influencing Weber s life and the context of his
sociology. Weber s main concern was to attempt to demonstrate that religious ideologies were not
mechanically connected to the economic structure of society, however it does shape individuals
behavior and actions in everyday life (Swingewood 1984, p.152). Weber also came to several
conclusions regarding the remarkable relationship between capitalism and Protestant. According to
Weber, the more capitalism had a free hand to alter social distribution, the larger the relationship
between capitalism and protestant (1930, p.4). Overall, it can be seen that the three main sociology
theorists differ greatly when it comes to ideas regarding to religion.

An Oedipal Relationship in Beneix s Diva Essay
The relationship between Jules and Cynthia Hawkins in Jean Jacques Beneix s Diva is uniquely
complex and vaguely oedipal. For Jules, the diva represents musical perfection, and he is
completely in love with her. However, her relationship to him is somewhat maternal. Jules s
obsession with Cynthia Hawkins is rather unhealthy, and he violates her purity. However, her
maternal attitude towards him allows for reconciliation despite his mistakes.
From the very beginning of the movie, the voice of Cynthia Hawkins pervades everything. In fact,
the opening title sequence tricks the viewer into thinking her voice is non diegetic sound, mere
background music for the on screen occurrences. However, when Jules turns off his tape deck, the

Alba can instantly detect his infatuation with the diva from the way he longingly stares at the
lifelike portrait of Cynthia, with her stolen dress draped over it almost as if the painting is wearing
the gown. Jules brings the diva s dress to a black prostitute, and has her wear the gown, trying to
delude himself into the illusion that he is with Cynthia Hawkins. Jules displays many of the
characteristics of a young lover. He brings flowers to Cynthia, and is content to hear the sound of
her voice or be connected to her in any way. When Jules and Cynthia meet for their walk, he holds
her umbrella over her head while they meander through the park. Also typical of an adolescent
lover afraid to make a first move, Jules moves closer and closer to her, slowly and hesitantly
putting his hand on her shoulder, draping his arm around her.
Despite his obvious romantic desires for Cynthia Hawkins, there are also some aspects of a
maternal relationship. Jules cuddles her gown while listening to her sing, seeking motherly
comfort in the sound of her music. Cynthia is comforted by her young fan. Although no one ever
listens to her rehearse, she allows Jules to stay and listen. It s strange, but I think I d like you to
be there while I m working, she tells him. Despite the way that Jules violates her in almost every
way possible, Cynthia forgives him; her reasons for this stem from the kind of unconditional love
that mothers have for their children. After all,

Summer Camp Essay
When parents talk about sending their child to summer camp, some people assume that the reason
behind this is to get a break from the child, and furthermore, those people believe that summer camp
has no impact on the child whatsoever. The majority of people who attended summer camp would
not agree. Summer camp allows children to thrive in a safe environment. Camp teaches children
valuable life skills. As someone who has attended summer camp since a young age, I can say with
confidence that summer camp helps a child develop into an independent and confident young adult.

Camp counselors take jobs seriously and should be trusted. Each staff member goes through
vigorous training to ensure the safety of every camper. Beyond taking care of the campers physical
need, counselors help the campers to achieve each child s unique level of responsibility, whether
that is tying their shoe, or conquering a fear. At summer camp, children become exposed to
independence.
This exposure allows children to develop more confidence in themselves. Acceptance is an
essential element of camp. Counselors work hard to make sure every child is being included in
activities. Summer camp is a place where children can be themselves. As a result, campers form
unbreakable bonds with their cabinmates. This summer, I had a cabin of nine girls, ages eleven
and twelve. Seven of those girls came from the same school but had never interacted with each
other. By the end of the week, not only did those girls conclude that they should be friends during
the school year, but they also arranged to see the other two girls next summer. Another approach for
campers to obtain confidence is the opportunity for them to go outside their comfort zone. When a
camper accomplishes something that they didn t think they could do, that gives them a sense of
confidence in themselves. People may argue that this sense of accomplishment can be achieved

Nurse Empowerment Job Related Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment by Liisa
Kuokkanen, MNSc, RN; Helena Leino Kilip, PhD, RN; and Joukp Katajisto, MSSc is a well
written title that addresses the key variables such as: job satisfaction, nurse empowerment, and
organizational commitment; however, it could be more specific on what population of nurses the
study is addressing.
ABSTRACT
In the abstract, the researcher summarizes the main features such as the concept of empowerment
and the significant factors that influence it. The results of this quantitative study are also described
to be consistent with many other studies, finding that key elements to nurse empowerment are job
satisfaction and organization commitment.
INTRODUCTION
Statement of the problem The problem statement is clearly stated, to find what factors through a
quantitative study establish nurse empowerment. The problem statement does not establish a
pervasive reason for a new study. The researcher states that there is existing researchaddressing this
question and the existing evidence is consistent with this study s findings. The reasons for needing
this study to be done when there is already significant evidence is not explained. Nurse
empowerment has an impact on every area of nursing. It influences job

Differences Of Geert Hofstede Six Dimensions Of Cultures
Every country has their way of thinking when it comes to working. Some country work and think
differently from others. Using Geert Hofstede Six Dimension s of Cultures, I ll compare and
contrast the differences between China and the United States on how they impact work
relationships.
The first dimension s of cultures in Geert Hofstede is Power Distance. This dimension deals with
the fact that all individuals in societies are not equal it expresses the attitude of the cultures towards
these inequalities amongst us (Hofstede, 2017). The differences between these two are that China in
this dimension (Power Distance) scores an 80, while the United States scores a 40. China believes

In the American organizations, superiors are accessible and managers rely on individual
employees and teams for their expertise (Hofstede, 2017). Communications is important and the
American people look after themselves and their immediate families only and should not rely on
authorities for support. American men s don t like to develop deep friendships, but the Americans
aren t shy to approach another person when obtaining or seeking information. The Americans also
believe that promotion and decisions are based on merit or evidence of what one has done or can
do (Hofstede, 2017).
Masculinity indicates that a high score indicates that the society will be driven by competition,
achievement, and success, with success being defined by winner / best in the field a value system
that starts in school and continues throughout organizational life (Hofstede, 2017). A low score
means that the dominant values in society are caring for others and quality of life. Also, it is the
sign of success and standing out from the crowd is not admirable. This is the third dimension on
Geert Hofstede Six Dimensions of Cultures.
In this dimension, China scores a 66 while the United States scores a 62. China is a success
oriented and driven society. Leisure time is not important to them as they will work hard just to

The Tortilla Curtain By. Boyle
The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle is a novel that is praised with high regards, and by evaluating
the text by means of a rhetorical analysis, we as readers can fully appreciate the deeper meanings
that Boyle is trying to convey throughout the book. Through the use of language, Boyle is able to
communicate and interact with his readers by evoking responses to the given text that is being

The purpose as to why Boyle writes is to address that the U.S. is a country that is comprised of
immigrants from throughout the world, and Boyle makes it clear that Mexican
Immigrants are no exception, despite the misinterpretations that the white middle class are led to
believe. Boyle makes use of this statement by using the character of Delaney Mossbacher, another
white middle classmen from the novel, to project what he is trying to convey to the reader. Delaney
argues to Jack that the U.S. is a country of immigrants, that they are the very heart and soul of the
nation and that not one person, including Jack, would be here if that was not the case (Boyle 101).
Despite his status as a white middle classmen like Jack, Delaney knows the reality of the situation
regarding immigrants in the U.S., and Boyle uses this character to convey that message to us, the
audience, to fully understand the significance of this information.
Therefore, Boyle s target demographic consist of people who are eager to learn about the realties
from both opposing sides: immigrants striving to achieve the American Dream and the white
middle class feeling threatened and reacting in numerous ways. Analyzing the predicaments that
both immigrants and the white middle class confront is valuable information to know, and Boyle
succeeds in doing so by capturing an audience of people who are

Levels Of Prejudice Essay
Being prejudice is when an individual has negative opinions, thoughts, and feelings toward a
specific person or group of people (Parrillo, 2016). When an individual is prejudice the outcome is
frequently negative, but could result in a positive manner depending on the situation. There are
three different levels of prejudice, action orientation level of prejudice, cognitive level of prejudice,
and emotional level of prejudice. An individual could perform any of these levels of prejudice
without apprehending it. There are two approaches to prejudice, psychological, which includes, self

What people read and watch easily impacts their perception of the world, studies show that regular
televisions viewers reveal a strong association between their exposure to the local or national
newscast and their racial attitudes and perceptions (Parrillo, 2016). The biggest stereotype I ve
witnessed in the media is specific gender roles, for instance, males are associated with the work
oriented and masculine characters and the women are associated with the love and family oriented
roles. Not only does the media portray gender roles but they also portray race related parts. For
example, African Americans play the unfortunate criminals who are always violent, and white
people play rich, content, and outgoing characters. If the media didn t portray such a negative
perception of certain ethnics and races, I truly believe fewer people would act in prejudicial way
and stereotype other

A Brief Look at Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd, an English psychedelic rock band founded in 1965, was originally made up of
construction students Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright. They originally
started performing in London s underground scene in the late 60s, and under Syd Barrett s creative
leadership they released two charting singles and a successful debut album.
In December 1967, the group added David Gilmour as the band s fifth member following the mental
breakdown of Syd Barrett during their support of Jimi Hendrix during a tour of England.
Eventually, Syd Barrett was moved to a nonperforming role, only writing songs and nothing else.
This stopped when a mixture of Syd s unpredictable behavior at the time and idiosyncratic sense of
humor occurred and created a song that, initially, seeming like an ordinary Barrett tune. However,
as the others attempted to join in and learn the song, Barrett changed the melodies and structure,
making it impossible for the others to learn. The song was, fittingly enough, named Have You Got
It Yet?
Barrett eventually totally left the band, leaving only 3 of the original members. After this, the band
released 8 other studio albums, and grew immensely popular thanks to Roger Waters ideas.
However, Waters eventually became greatly annoyed with the fame, and even went to the point of
spitting in the face of some particularly annoying fans during a concert in Montreal.
During the creation of one of their most theatrical and thought provoking

The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay
The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this
life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime
components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences
affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting
and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure
Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only
component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is
considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative
margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either
normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal
Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for
long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement
predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes
increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation
embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning
nuclear piping the main degradation

trauma happens to children. Also a family being in poverty after experiencing a traumatic event

Grateful Dead Concert Essay
For concert essay 2, I have went with an online concert. I have chosen the concert at Alpine Valley,
where the Grateful Dead performed July 7, 1989. This is a historic venue for the Grateful Dead
and the Deadheads, because this was an atmosphere that always seemed to be far more electric than
most. Although the Grateful Dead was a great live act throughout the entire existence of the band,
many of the band members admit during the 89 90 tours, they were at their best. To open the concert

With very little preparation time, the band jumped right into their first song, without hesitation.
This stood out to me because all of the concerts I have seen live, they ll spend quite some time

Stem Cells Essay
Mesenchymal stem cells go on to develop into: connective tissue, like adipocytes, stromal cells or
tenocytes; muscle tissues, from myoblasts into skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle types; cartilage,
which is created when an osteochondral progenitor cell develops into a chondroblast then a
chondrocyte; or bone tissue, which is also developed from an osteochondral progenitor cell, into an
osteoblast, then an osteocyte.
Hematopoietic stem cells are what create all the different components of blood.
They develop into Myeloid Progenitor cells, which then go on to develop into erythroblasts (create
erythrocytes, or red blood cells), megakaryoblasts (create megakaryocytes and thrombocytes, which

It then develops into a polychromatophilic normoblast. At this stage, the cytoplasm begins to create
haemoglobin, changing the colour to dark grey blue, and the chromatin in the nucleus becomes
more condensed and knotted.
Then, the nuclei completely shrink, forming a orthochromatic normoblast, which then develops
into a reticulocyte, an immature red blood cell.
Neutrophils
Neutrophils are also created from myeloid Progenitor cells, but they then develop into myeloblasts,
which create the three types of granulocyte, including neutrophils.
Stem Cells in Medicine
There are many potential benefits of stem cell research, however, there is a lot more intensive stem
cell research that needs to be done to bridge the gap between the promise of stem cells and the
actual reality of these uses.
There are many areas of medicine where stem cells could be applied, and range from the
development of new drugs, possibly for conditions that have no treatments or cures, to cell
therapies, where stem cells are used to replace failing or damaged tissue.
Together, cardiovascular diseases, such as heart disease, and cancers are the top two causes of
death. Regenerative medicine, using stem cells, has the potential to be able to repair heart damage
and perhaps improve cancer treatments.

audience mind to think deeper. Everything that is going on in the world is not always on big
screen news stations, sometimes it takes a famous artist to point out the important issues going on
in our society that we don t see on television. Tania Bruguera encourages her audience to see things
in a different horizon, and not just from a selfish angle when it comes down to certain issues and

Comparing Heroes In Beowulf And The Knight s Tale
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power.
Abraham Lincoln. Fictional or nonfictional stories often reflect a strong hero. However, has
anyone noticed, the longer heroes remain in power the less heroic they become? The Fictional
stories of Beowulf, and The Knight s Tale, and the nonfictional story of king David, are examples
of these so called heroes . These stories prove that the longer a herois in power, the less heroic they
become.
The Knight s Tale depicts a characternamed Theseus. Theseus is considered by some to be a hero
because he helped overthrow bad leadership in many kingdoms, including the land of Athens. After
helping Athens, he became their king. Theseus was a good and wise king for many years. However,
as we advance through the story, Theseus makes decisions that hurt his kingdom. When two
outlawed knights begin to fight over the princess of Athens, he does not throw them in prison, does
not banish them, and does not tell them, Take this fight somewhere else, so nobody gets hurt .
Instead, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David showed loyalty, faith, leadership, talent, and bravery. He was known as a wise ruler and
a great worrier. In the same way, anyone who knows the bible probably knows about the sins
David committed. Instead of going into war with his men, David stayed home and did not fight.
That poor, cowardly decision led to the sin of adultery with Bathsheba, killing her husband,
trying to cover up his sins, and not following God s commands as king. David transformed into a
bad father. David transformed into an inconsiderate king. David transformed into an
unacceptable hero. His decisions revolved around himself instead of his people. As David s power
grew, so did his opportunities to sin. David grew to be a self centered and corrupt king. The longer
David was in power the more selfish he became. He was no longer the hero he used to

Mandatory Health Insurance
Mandatory Insurance Coverage for Women s Reproductive Health
Critique of Health Policy Position Statements
All people in America should have a right to health care benefits and services considering health
care is at the center of the national agenda. Mandatory health care insurance is a system that pays
the cost of health care for those who are enrolled and in which enrollment is required for all
members of a population. Insurance works by people pooling together their risks of incurring
expenses, not knowing whether they will file claims but choosing to insure for the emotional and
financial security coverage provides. In health insurance, the norm in America has been that

Recommendations on women s preventive health care, including contraception, have been
developed by a panel of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) after the reforms were enacted and became
binding for many plans. There is need to prioritize the aspect of guidance from the government to
the insurers concerning the plans owing to the complexity of reproductive health matters including
on preventive matters. Preventive services requirements include a wide array of services beyond
contraceptive care that are central to the sexual and reproductive health of women but the biggest
challenge is how much the public will learn about other preventive care services that these same
plans must also cover without patient cost sharing. Reproductive health isn t all about treatment.
Prevention, counseling, and checkups matter as well, and they should be covered comprehensively
by sealing all the loopholes that insurance plans

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay
The phrase so it goes is repeated 106 times in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. From dead
champagne to the massacre at Dresden, every death in the book is seemingly equalized with the
phrase so it goes . The continuation of this phrase ties in with the general theme on indifference in
the story. If the Tralfamadorian view of time is correct, then everyone is continuously living every
moment of their life and dying is not the end. However, if Vonnegut believed in this idea, then he
wouldn t have felt compelled to write about the firebombing of Dresden. It is clear that both Billy
Pilgrim and Kurt Vonnegutare affected by the massacre they saw, but they have different ways of
rationalizing it. Billy finds comfort in the Tralfamadorian view of life, whereas Vonnegut
disagrees, and urges the reader to disagree too. The constant repetition of so it goes breaks the
reader away from the Tralfamadorian point of view, and allows them to come to their own
conclusion that although it would be nice to forget the bad parts of life, it is important to
remember all of the past. Vonnegut helps the reader come to this conclusion by repeating the
phrase after gruesome moments, and showing how meaningless life can be if the Tralfamadorian
ideas are believed, as seen through Billy Pilgrim s bland life.. The first use of so it goes comes in
the first chapter, while Vonnegut is talking in the first person. He met a cab driver who was a
German soldier and said things were much

Essay on The Impact of Blogging on Middle Eastern Society
Although millions of people around the world depend on a free press to convey them the news of
the day via newspapers, television, and the Internet, many countries in the developing world lack
the climate of openness that contributes to a credible press. It is a chicken and egg problem
(which came first, the free press or the democratic government?), but it is clear that a democratic
government contributes to a free press as much as the converse. Through the fog of decades of
war, the Middle Easthas had particular difficulty sorting out fact from fiction, propaganda from
proper news. While a free press cannot necessarily tell viewers which is which, it can give them the
information they need to know to draw their own conclusions. In this... Show more content on

that received international attention for its efforts to use citizen journalism to chronicle the war
through eyewitness accounts in a way that neither Al Jazeera nor embedded Arab journalists
could (McCarthy, n. pag.). Although the blog was written in English, it provided to English
speaking readers throughout the Arab world and abroad an intense and often witty account of
life during wartime. Capitalizing on the popularity and uncooked nature of Where is Raed?,
other Arab blogs began appearing online. Although early Arab bloggers also used English,
partly because Arabic language word processing technology was poor and partly because writing
in English offered a greater feeling of anonymity, as technology improved, Arabic language
blogs began to appear more with greater frequency (Hamdy, 93). Blogs such as Kefaya! and
Manal and Alaa s Bit Bucket could reach many more readers in the Middle East than English
language blogs and focused on themes popular with readers, such as government repression,
social upheaval, and political frustration. The blogs often posted shocking amateur video and
photography of police brutality that were not available to major Arab or Western news outlets
because of failure to obtain permission from the host governments to cover protests. As
readership of Arabic language blogs increased, so did the number of blogs themselves, reaching
nearly 40,000 Arabic blogs by 2006 (Hamdy, 93). By 2005, blogs were no

The Role Of Imperialism In Catalonia
Anagette San Roman
Ms. Sauter
World History/Block G
10 December 2014
Country s Imperialism:
Catalonia
The country of Catalonia, located in Europe, is a country that every single person would like to
visit. Visitors time at this well constructed, rather small country would be a great experience when
coming to their spiritual, physical, and mental health. However, the country is going to imperialize
the country of Spain because the people of Catalonia are demanding to be just like Spain. The
country is going to travel on small boats until they reach the coast of Barcelona, Spain. The main
objects that the country of Catalonia is after are Spain s land, resources, and their trade connections.
Although the country of Catalonia already has all of those three objects and connections in their
country, they just want to conquer another prosperous country like Spain. ... Show more content on

Socially, taking over Spain brought major changes in agriculture growth, population increase, and
trade. In the agriculture industry, the people were able to grow their own crops and learn from the
Spanish plantation workers. With the help of the Spanish farmers, the Catalonian people ate
healthier crops that would eventually let them take in all the natural vitamins and build their bodies
stronger. Catalonians learned from the Spanish knew to work hard and establish determination to
be successful.
In addition, Catalonia has gained political power from conquering Spain. For instance, the people
decided that they would rather be ruled by a king and queen. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella
made the decisions that they wanted to rule the people of Catalonia. With their rule came
prosperous laws and changes that would benefit the people and country as a whole. The Catalonia
people were extremely happy that they no longer had to make their own laws and regulations
because the king and the queen would take

From ancient Greece to modern day scholars, philospher and psychologists have been studying on visual perception for centruries. As a result of people studying visual perception for such a lengthy amount of time, ground breaking researches have been conducted by many observers like Emil Emmert. In1881 it was found by Emil Emmert that an objects size afterimage seems to vary in size based on whether it is positioned close or farther away. When near by the object looks small. And the farther away it gets, the size of the object becomes noticeably larger. Meanwhile Emmert s Law did not involved any optical illusions, therefore Emmert regarded the perceived sizes of the objects in the after image as a reaction of the body to continue psychological function. According to Emmert s Law the perceptual constancy was thought to happen by multiple depth perception cues that include; binocular vision, linear perspective and monocular cue. In contrast to Emmert s Law in Ames Room Illusion there are 2 illusions that take place. By looking through a peeping whole with one eye, the peephole eliminates all the depth perception cues and causes the room to appear like a regular cubic room. The other illusion is the fact that objects swtich sizes as they swap places in the room. This leds all the distance cues to be abolished as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Litter is nothing but a piece of waste or rubbish that has been disposed improperly, without consent and at wrong location. Littering simply means throwing away objects on the ground or leaving them lying on the ground instead of disposing them at garbage can, recyclingbin or trash container. (What is Litter? ) It is very concerning that there are only a few people who would like to make a change within their own community. The trash laying alongside the highways is very distracting, it makes you want to stop and pick it up. Many people who feel such a way decide that they need to come up with a plan that could get their community involved. The environment that we live in needs to be treated better, if only humans could take a second look at what it actually does look like. There are so many ideas and ways trash could be taken care of instead of just being disposed alongside the highways, on the streets, or anywhere else it does not belong besides in a garbage can. It is very disappointing that many people do not even care at all that the mother earth is very trashy. However, there are a few good people out there who take their time to keep their community looking nice and clean. It is surprising when you do notice the few places that you travel by are clean. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also have to test to see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from cracking/breaking. Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that the higher the PSI the higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?. The independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how high the rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi. Hypothesis If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket will fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher. Wordsworth feels that we are detached from the world and its beauty because we have become so careless about how we view the world. For example, Wordsworth writes, We lay waste our powers; / Little we see in Naturethat is ours;/ We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon! (2 4). In this passage, Wordsworth talks about how the world and its nature is significant to mankind because we depend on it, but we choose to overlook it because we have lost our meaningful connection. We waste our days being ungrateful to the world instead of appreciating the life it holds. Our world does so much for us and yet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, This Sea that bares her boson to the moon (5), sleeping flowers , (7) and The winds that will be howling at all hours, these samples show how Wordsworth gives nature human like qualities. He does this to create character in nature. Another literary element Wordsworth uses is similes. According to Marx, religion can be seen as the opiate of the people (Engels, Marx 1955, p.41). Here, Marx is suggesting that just like opium, religion is trying to relieve people of the pain and suffering in their lives. Marx also puts forward the idea that religion is used by its oppressors in order to make people feel better about their lives. Thus, it can be seen that Marx chooses to adopt a negative view of religion. Max Weber can be seen as the only sociologist to place so much scope and emphasis on the subject of religion (Nisbet, p.250). Biographical and textual evidence suggests that biblical religion played a part in shaping and influencing Weber s life and the context of his sociology. Weber s main concern was to attempt to demonstrate that religious ideologies were not mechanically connected to the economic structure of society, however it does shape individuals behavior and actions in everyday life (Swingewood 1984, p.152). Weber also came to several conclusions regarding the remarkable relationship between capitalism and Protestant. According to Weber, the more capitalism had a free hand to alter social distribution, the larger the relationship between capitalism and protestant (1930, p.4). • 21. An Oedipal Relationship in Beneix s Diva Essay The relationship between Jules and Cynthia Hawkins in Jean Jacques Beneix s Diva is uniquely complex and vaguely oedipal. For Jules, the diva represents musical perfection, and he is completely in love with her. However, her relationship to him is somewhat maternal. Jules s obsession with Cynthia Hawkins is rather unhealthy, and he violates her purity. However, her maternal attitude towards him allows for reconciliation despite his mistakes. From the very beginning of the movie, the voice of Cynthia Hawkins pervades everything. In fact, the opening title sequence tricks the viewer into thinking her voice is non diegetic sound, mere background music for the on screen occurrences. Jules brings the diva s dress to a black prostitute, and has her wear the gown, trying to delude himself into the illusion that he is with Cynthia Hawkins. Jules displays many of the characteristics of a young lover. He brings flowers to Cynthia, and is content to hear the sound of her voice or be connected to her in any way. When Jules and Cynthia meet for their walk, he holds her umbrella over her head while they meander through the park. Also typical of an adolescent lover afraid to make a first move, Jules moves closer and closer to her, slowly and hesitantly putting his hand on her shoulder, draping his arm around her. Despite his obvious romantic desires for Cynthia Hawkins, there are also some aspects of a maternal relationship. Jules cuddles her gown while listening to her sing, seeking motherly comfort in the sound of her music. Cynthia is comforted by her young fan. Although no one ever listens to her rehearse, she allows Jules to stay and listen. It s strange, but I think I d like you to be there while I m working, she tells him. Despite the way that Jules violates her in almost every way possible, Cynthia forgives him; her reasons for this stem from the kind of unconditional love that mothers have for their children. A Brief Look at Pink Floyd Pink Floyd, an English psychedelic rock band founded in 1965, was originally made up of construction students Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright. They originally started performing in London s underground scene in the late 60s, and under Syd Barrett s creative leadership they released two charting singles and a successful debut album. In December 1967, the group added David Gilmour as the band s fifth member following the mental breakdown of Syd Barrett during their support of Jimi Hendrix during a tour of England. Eventually, Syd Barrett was moved to a nonperforming role, only writing songs and nothing else. This stopped when a mixture of Syd s unpredictable behavior at the time and idiosyncratic sense of humor occurred and created a song that, initially, seeming like an ordinary Barrett tune. However, as the others attempted to join in and learn the song, Barrett changed the melodies and structure, making it impossible for the others to learn. The song was, fittingly enough, named Have You Got It Yet? Barrett eventually totally left the band, leaving only 3 of the original members. After this, the band released 8 other studio albums, and grew immensely popular thanks to Roger Waters ideas. However, Waters eventually became greatly annoyed with the fame, and even went to the point of spitting in the face of some particularly annoying fans during a concert in Montreal. Recently there are trails to raise this life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). Such influences affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning nuclear piping the main degradation ... • 41. Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay The phrase so it goes is repeated 106 times in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. From dead champagne to the massacre at Dresden, every death in the book is seemingly equalized with the phrase so it goes . The continuation of this phrase ties in with the general theme on indifference in the story. If the Tralfamadorian view of time is correct, then everyone is continuously living every moment of their life and dying is not the end. However, if Vonnegut believed in this idea, then he wouldn t have felt compelled to write about the firebombing of Dresden. It is clear that both Billy Pilgrim and Kurt Vonnegutare affected by the massacre they saw, but they have different ways of rationalizing it. Billy finds comfort in the Tralfamadorian view of life, whereas Vonnegut disagrees, and urges the reader to disagree too. The constant repetition of so it goes breaks the reader away from the Tralfamadorian point of view, and allows them to come to their own conclusion that although it would be nice to forget the bad parts of life, it is important to remember all of the past. Vonnegut helps the reader come to this conclusion by repeating the phrase after gruesome moments, and showing how meaningless life can be if the Tralfamadorian ideas are believed, as seen through Billy Pilgrim s bland life.. The first use of so it goes comes in the first chapter, while Vonnegut is talking in the first person. He met a cab driver who was a German soldier and said things were much ... • 42. Essay on The Impact of Blogging on Middle Eastern Society Although millions of people around the world depend on a free press to convey them the news of the day via newspapers, television, and the Internet, many countries in the developing world lack the climate of openness that contributes to a credible press. It is a chicken and egg problem (which came first, the free press or the democratic government?), but it is clear that a democratic government contributes to a free press as much as the converse. Through the fog of decades of war, the Middle Easthas had particular difficulty sorting out fact from fiction, propaganda from proper news. While a free press cannot necessarily tell viewers which is which, it can give them the information they need to know to draw their own conclusions. In this... Although the blog was written in English, it provided to English speaking readers throughout the Arab world and abroad an intense and often witty account of life during wartime. Capitalizing on the popularity and uncooked nature of Where is Raed?, other Arab blogs began appearing online. Although early Arab bloggers also used English, partly because Arabic language word processing technology was poor and partly because writing in English offered a greater feeling of anonymity, as technology improved, Arabic language blogs began to appear more with greater frequency (Hamdy, 93). Blogs such as Kefaya! and Manal and Alaa s Bit Bucket could reach many more readers in the Middle East than English language blogs and focused on themes popular with readers, such as government repression, social upheaval, and political frustration. The blogs often posted shocking amateur video and photography of police brutality that were not available to major Arab or Western news outlets because of failure to obtain permission from the host governments to cover protests. As readership of Arabic language blogs increased, so did the number of blogs themselves, reaching nearly 40,000 Arabic blogs by 2006 (Hamdy, 93). By 2005, blogs were no ...
